MMA/muay thai Events on GFL COMBAT SPORTS NETWORK

– Friday, March 2, 2012 7:30pm ET featuring Cage Wars 13 back to back shows from the Harrah’s Casino in Chester Pennsylvania. In the main event, Michael Pandolfini (3-1) battles Tom Backman (2-2) in a welterweight tilt. Pandolfini is on a 3-fight win streak and looks to make Backman number 4. A well-versed fighter, Pandolfini has wins by submission and KO and will look to put Backman in the pressure cooker early in the bout. Backman is coming off a tough decision loss where he went 5 rounds with a championship on the line. He looks to rebound quickly and show Pandolfini and the Cage Wars crowd that he is someone to be taken very seriously. This is a great matchup of two up and coming fighters with lots to prove to themselves and their contemporaries in the sport of mixed martial arts. In another featured bout, Patrick White (2-4) fights Casey Milliken (2-3) in a lightweight battle. White has a reputation for always being a scrapper and has fought for some of the biggest organizations based in the East Coast. White fights with a high risk/high reward style and you never know what he will bring to a fight. It’s the unknown that Milliken has to be ready for. Milliken is another fighter who is always game and his record shows it. He takes a fight anytime, anywhere. He has fought in New Jersey and traveled all the way out to Arizona looking for a good tussle. This bout has all of the makings for fight of the night as they two gladiators just don’t care. They will go at it and whatever happens happens.

– Saturday, March 3, 2012 7:00pm ET featuring Warriors Cup XIV- Muay Thai event from the Rahway Rec Center in Rahway, New Jersey. In the main event, Flavio Brito challenges Stephen Regman. Regman has a background in MMA and at (6-2) with wins via striking and submissions he is probably the better all-around fighter who has more tools at his disposal. But this bout will be strictly striking and Brito comes into the bout with some momentum as he has fared well in his last several bouts. Look for Brito and Regman to give the New Jersey crowd a first rate battle as they step into the ring and prepare to level each other with vicious strikes from head to toe. These are two of the toughest fighters in the Northeast so expect a war. In the co-main event, Rich Brattole fights Romain Gaston. Brattole and Gaston get this opportunity to fight second from the top because of their fast paced fighting style. Both fighters have been known to throw the kitchen sink at their opponents and this bout should resemble two bulls in a china shop as Brattole and Gaston cause damage in every fight. This could turn into a bout of attrition with whoever having the best cardio being victorious.

– Saturday, March 3, 2012 7:30pm ET featuring Cage Wars 14 from the Harrah’s Casino in Chester Pennsylvania. In the main event, Andrew Aguilar (4-1) fights Matthew Rizzo (3-0) for the Cage Wars Bantamweight Championship. Aguilar is the current reigning and defending champion and this will be his third title defense. Aguilar is known for his great cardio conditioning put will look to take out Rizzo before the final bell as Aguilar won his last bout by a razor thin split decision, something he does not want to duplicate against Rizzo. Rizzo has never tasted defeat and also holds another title with a different organization. This will be another opportunity for Rizzo to add to his collection of championship belts. This is a tough match to call as both fighters have fought and won championships, so neither man will break easily. In the co-main event, Ryan Cafaro (2-3) takes on James Currey (4-0) for the vacant Cage Wars Lightweight Title. Cafaro is coming off a tough decision loss in a title fight and looks to rectify his past mistakes with a win over Currey. If he is successful, Cafaro is walking away with the title. For the undefeated Currey, this is his first shot at gold and a veteran of ROC in New Jersey, Currey has already proven to be battle-tested. Expect fireworks from these two at the opening bell.

– Saturday, March 3, 2012 9:00pm ET featuring Journey Fight Series V from the Century Casino in Calgary, Canada. Two more professional bouts have been made official for Journey Fight Series V in Calgary, Canada. Nate Smandych will face Mexico’s Luis David Cruz Hernandez and Sean McKinnon will face California’s Daniel Kim. The night’s main event will feature Canada’s Jessica Gladstone against Mexico’s Celeste Saenz. Smandych is coming off a victory against Kiao Jie at the Canada vs. China event that took place this past November. The victory followed a great performance by Smandych in October at Journey Fight Series IV where he defeated Mark DeLuca via (T)KO. Hernandez fights out of Cancun, Mexico and will be looking to upset the home town favorite. McKinnon has recorded some solid wins since he dropped is pro debut including a win against Marcus Fisher and another win in Mexico. Kim will be looking to bounce back from his first pro loss at this past October’s Team Thailand vs. Team America event in Los Angeles, CA. Prior to his first pro loss, Kim had knocked out Carlos Ramirez in spectacular fashion at Stand Up Promotions “M1 Grand Muay Thai Championship” this past August.

– Saturday, March 3, 2012 9:00pm ET featuring – Saturday, March 3, 2012 9:00pm ET featuring School Of Hard Knocks 21 at the Spectra Place in Estevan, Canada.

– Sunday, March 4, 2012 5:00pm ET featuring International Fight Showdown – IFS 10 – Triple Threat at the Industry Hills Expo Center in Industry, California. The stacked event features a mixture of boxing, Muay Thai and MMA. The IFS Pro-1 Title will also be up for grabs as some of the top fighters go toe to toe for the coveted championship. Also at Triple Threat, a 8-man elimination tournament in the 170 lb and 205 lb weight classes. Under the revolutionary rules parameters set by IFS, fighters will compete against each other in three separate combat sports. Round one will be boxing, round two is Muay Thai and round 3 is MMA! In the main event, Jonathan Del Rosario battles Kevin Bee. The fight will consist of three rounds and start as a Western boxing match. Expect Del Rosario and Bee to be throwing haymakers as both are deadly strikers. If they both manage to escape the first round Del Rosario and Bee will be able to add six more points of attack (knees, elbows, shins) and engage in the hardest hitting striking art in the world. If both men can make it to the third and final round, then the ultimate combat sport will be showcased as the grappling arts (wrestling and submissions) will be on display from these two warriors. In the co-main event, Eduardo Hernandez fights Cooper Gibson in a highly anticipated and what is sure to be another hotly contest “triple threat” bout. Hernandez and Gibson are both crowd favorites as they always bring a break neck pace to their fights, whether in the striking arts or in MMA. Both fighters are proficient strikers, predominantly in the art of Muay Thai so the fans could see some wild exchanges and fireworks, particularly in round two. Don’t blink watching this bout as Hernandez and Gibson will be bringing the pain!

COOKING CAN BE RECIPE FOR A BETTER LIFE

The Columbian (Vancouver, WA) November 4, 1999 | ELIZABETH HOVDE, Columbian staff writer What an intimidating experience: learning to cook. Knowing the differences between various types of flours, how to thicken sauces and gravies without destroying the taste, even knowing how long to boil an egg all were mysteries.

The daughter of a highly talented and capable Dutch woman who grew up on farms eating whole foods plucked from the Earth, I eventually learned the basics. I knew how to shop for affordable ingredients and make meals for myself by the time I was a teen and out on my own. It is hard to imagine the lost feeling that grown adults, mothers and fathers, must experience when staring at a bag of brown rice or dried beans and not knowing how to make the goods into something edible.

In her Oct. 30 article, “Staples are tough sell at food banks,” Columbian reporter Anne Hart found that low-income community members who rely on local food banks for some of their meals are choosing hot dogs over fresh meat even salmon. They pick meals-in-a-box over staple foods, opting for quick-fix menu items that are not only less nutritional but most often more costly. Free staple foods sit on the food banks’ shelves going unused.

Why? Some folks no doubt make the choice out of convenience, just as people with plenty of money do. But Virginia Hirtler and other food-bank volunteers say many of their patrons simply lack cooking know-how. Without the skills to prepare meals that stretch a budget further, people in need carry these food bank preferences into grocery stores on already slim food budgets.

To combat the trend, Friends in Service of Humanity in Orchards gives away recipes with staple food items to try to convince patrons to take away the provisions that provide more meals for families. Hirtler, who volunteers for FISH, has even produced three cookbooks that outline recipes using common ingredients the food bank receives. In 1984 large amounts of cheese were available to patrons, so she compiled a cookbook of cheese-related meals. More than 3,000 copies of the cookbooks have gone to those in need. website how long to boil an egg

Hirtler is setting out to update the latest cookbook, adding many staple-heavy recipes and tips for using basics. Hirtler is also looking for someone to donate printing services for the books, so the food bank can get them into the hands of those who turn away staples or ditch them after being talked into taking them home because they don’t know what to do with them.

To help those in need learn to cook and make economically smart grocery-shopping choices, the North County Community Food Bank in Battle Ground hopes to offer cooking classes starting this February. The organization has done cooking classes in the past, but making it a regular offering is difficult: The bank needs a certified kitchen to teach in for free (a place where public food can be served), volunteer instructors to lead classes and funds to buy staples and coordinate the class schedule.

Kay Schauer, a home economist with the Washington State University Clark County Cooperative Extension’s family food and nutrition program, will also teach classes for people on low incomes if kitchens are available at no cost. If you have a certified kitchen and can donate some space to these efforts, call Schauer at 254-8436 or the North County Community Food Bank at 687- 7126 and ask for Elaine Hertz. To help in the cookbook effort, call Hirtler at FISH, 256-2440.

Charity that works “Give me a fish and I’ll eat for a day; teach me to fish and I’ll eat for a lifetime,” the old adage goes. And yet often we don’t realize what others don’t know and that so many of us have rich knowledge to give. howlongtoboilaneggnow.com how long to boil an egg

It is far easier to donate food baskets, or vote to increase government programs that, although well-intended, often fail: too big, too impersonal. Unfortunately, our nation’s collective goodwill has replaced charity that does work: one-on-one relationships, discipleship and teaching. This type of charity takes real time and effort but can transform lives.

Is there someone in your sphere of influence who could benefit from what you know? A young teen who could learn the skills she may need later in life? A single mother who doesn’t know how to make mashed potatoes, so she opts for prepackaged noodles? Do you know a family that has trouble making ends meet and lives without a budget to help guide them?

Fewer people will live in poverty if more one-on-one relationships are pursued and if the transfer of basic life skills from family to family can give people in need the tools required to build steps to self-sufficiency.

ELIZABETH HOVDE, Columbian staff writer

Tacoma, WA (Monday, February 27, 2012) – David “Hollywood” Hulett lived up to his billing by taking out local favorite Len Bentley in the first round of their Cagesport Welterweight title match last Saturday evening at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma.

Bentley, a former Ultimate Fighter participant and who also fought in M-1 and Strikeforce, tried to get back to his feet but was unsuccessful. Hulett, fighting once again in his opponent’s backyard, executed a grueling achilles lock, which forced his foe to submit 1:28 into the contest.

“I am very pleased with this card, especially considering that the main event fell apart less than a week before the show,” said Brian Halquist, CEO of Halquist Productions. “We had a sold out crowd and a ton of talented fighters giving it their all. I can’t wait for the next card!”

Ellis Out; Bentley steps in to face Hulett! Cagesport Title Fight Set!

Tacoma, WA (February 22, 2012) – Len Bentley has stepped in to face David “Hollywood” Hulett for the Cagesport Welterweight Title Saturday evening in the main event of Halquist Productions’ “Cagesport XVIII”.

Hulett was scheduled to face “Fast” Eddy Ellis, but the latter withdrew Monday after injuring his shoulder in training.

A submission specialist, Bentley participated on the 13th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” and was known as the most outspoken contestant. Bentley is a veteran of both Strikeforce and M-1, winning undercard matches for both organizations. The Olympia, WA native, who is 10-5 in the octagon, has 2 professional boxing matches and fought last month at the Emerald Queen.

“It’s truly unbelievable that we were able to make this fight on such short notice,” said Promoter Brian Halquist of Halquist Productions. “Len is a top fighter and the fact that he was ready to challenge a quality opponent in David Hulett with less than a week’s notice is one of the most admirable things I’ve ever seen. The reality is I feel this is a better fight for the fans. Furthermore, it shows just how tough David Hulett is. He didn’t balk at the change. He said he would fight anybody.”

In addition to the Bentley-Hulett bout, “Cagesport XVIII” will feature an action-packed undercard including Jeff Hatton, Chanti Johnson, Julian Erosa and Ryan Mulvihill among others. Individual tickets start at $35 and are available at the EQC box office or by going to EmeraldQueen.com.

It’s Showtime: Jimmy Lennon Jr. to Announce “Cagesport XVIII”!

Tacoma, WA (February 17, 2012) – Legendary ring announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr. will serve as the master of ceremonies for “Cagesport XVIII”.

The card takes place Saturday, February 25 at the Emerald Queen Casino and is promoted by Halquist Productions. Tickets starting at $35 are available at the casino box office or on EmeraldQueen.com.

A member of the World Boxing Hall of Fame, Lennon Jr. has announced numerous big-time fights for the most respected networks, appearing on Showtime, HBO and Fox Sports amongst others. Globally recognized for exclaiming “It’s Showtime!” prior to the main event, he also called five cards in 2011 for Halquist Productions.

“We are always excited to have Jimmy announce our shows,” said Halquist Productions’ CEO Brian Halquist. “It’s truly an honor to have the best in the business working with us.”

Known as “Classy”, Lennon Jr. is thrilled to be back in Tacoma and passed up other opportunities to make it happen.

“I am fortunate enough to be asked to announce shows all over the world,” said Lennon Jr. “(The same weekend as Cagesport XVIII) I was asked to announce a show in London, but I chose to be in Tacoma with Halquist Productions. – Friday, February 17, 2012 8:30pm ET featuring Ultimate Reno Combat 31 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. In the main event, Brandon Costa (4-0) representing Uriah Faber’s Ultimate Fitness battles “Bad” Brad Robasciotti (2-1) for the light heavyweight title. Costa is the reigning champion and this will be his first title defense in the 205 lb division. A heavy puncher, the undefeated Costa has 3 of his wins via TKO so he will try and use his hand speed to connect early with Robasciotti. For Robasciotti, he earned this title shot, but a great showing at URC 30 when he TKO’d his opponent in the opening round. This is a great matchup of two heavy hitters and odds are this will not go the distance. Be ready for fireworks. In the co-main event, Oscar Ramirez (7-1) fights Michael Hutchins (2-0) in a bantamweight scrap. For Ramirez this will be his 9th time competing in the URC cage so he will definitely have the advantage with familiarity and experience. A former champion for the promotion, Ramirez is looking to get back to the top and the fastest way to do that is with a spectacular win against Hutchins. Hutchins is a newcomer to MMA, but both of his wins have come via first round submission inside of the URC cage. Hutchins is a great grappler and will not hesitate to go for an arm, leg or neck if he sees an opening. Don’t blink for this bout folks; it’s going to be a barnburner. The winner of this bout will be in line for a title shot soon.

– Saturday, February 18, 2012 4:00am ET / 7:00pm Canberra time, featuring Brace for War 14 at The National Convention Centre, Canberra, Australia. The 9-bout card is headlined by the country’s top MMA talents and this event promises to show the world that mixed martial arts is a thriving and growing sport Down Under. In the main event, Luke Hume fights Dave Brooksbank. This is a battle of Australia versus the UK as Hume will have the home Aussies cheering him on against Brooksbank who is ready to conquer the hometown hero. Hume is coming off a tough loss at Brace for War 13, and looks to get back into title contention with a victory over the up and coming Brooksbank. Hume is able to finish fights on the ground or in the standup and if need be has the conditioning to go the distance. Look for him to try and wear out the less experienced Brooksbank and get him to the later rounds. Brooksbank is a noted grappler as his two victories have both come via first round submissions. Brooksbank will look to do the same against Hume and make it another short night. In the co-main event, Duke Didier battles Hugo Miller in a heavyweight tilt. Didier is an Australian judo champion and will have a huge advantage if the fight goes to the ground. Didier finished his only opponent in under a minute at Brace for War 10, and will try and implement the same game plan here. Miller’s large limbs will be calling cards for submission attempts if Didier can get the bout to the mat. But Miller’s size advantage and reach will pose a huge threat to Didier while the fighters are on their feet. Also scheduled to compete, in a battle of giants, are local favorite Andrew Machin versus Joel Dixon and females Bec “Rowdy” Hyatt against the debuting Sara Morrison.

– Saturday, February 18, 2012 6:30pm ET featuring NAAFS Caged Vengeance 10 at Grays Armory in Cleveland, Ohio. The cards main event will feature former NAAFS welterweight champion Nick Duell who looks for his second straight win against StrikeForce veteran and Team Gracie product, Alex Trevino. Duell is looking for his second straight win after taking home a split decision victory in his last bout back on November 23rd. Trevino, who won his first three fights in StrikeForce, will make his NAAFS debut as he too looks for his second consecutive win. Fan favorite and Ohio native Jessica Eye will battle Jackson MMA’s Kelly Warren in a 125 lbs divisional showcase. Eye was impressive in her last NAAFS appearance when she took out Jennifer Scott by unanimous decision. While Warren looks to rebound off her first career loss, a hard fought loss to current champion Aisling Daly. Long time NAAFS veteran Paul Compton returns to the NAAFS for what could be one of the cards most exciting match ups when he collides with Anotnio Castillo Jr. Both fighters are coming off impressive wins in their last outings. A win in this fight, may earn the victor a crack at the 145 lbs NAAFS title later this year. Former NAAFS national amateur champion Isaiah Chapman will make his long awaited professional debut against newcomer Richard McDole while two time national champion George Comer takes on Ryan Shank to round out the pro portion of the card. The amateur undercard will be highlighted by nationally ranked Cody Garbrandt who may be making his last trip to the cage as an amateur against undefeated up and comer Jarell Hodge.

– Saturday, February 18, 2012 7:30pm ET featuring Absolute Action MMA 23 “A Night of Champions” at Drawbridge Inn in Ft Mitchell, Kentucky. Complete fight card with Pro/Am fights, 8 Title fights including 2 female titles up for grabs, Pro Debut of Former AAMMA 155 champion James Morton and Pro Debut of former AAMMA 135 Champion Eric Moell, The return of former 135 and 145 Champion Doug Ballinger in a Pro matchup

Ellis to defend title against Hulett in Tacoma!

Tacoma, Washington (February 8, 2012) – Strikeforce veteran “Fast” Eddy Ellis of Yelm, WA defends his Cagesport Welterweight championship Saturday, February 25 when he challenges David “Hollywood” Hulett in the five round main event of Halquist Productions’ “CageSport XVIII” at the Emerald Queen Casino.

Individual tickets start at $35 and are available at the EQC box office or by going to EmeraldQueen.com.

Although his professional ledger is 17-15, Ellis has won nine of his last ten fights, eight of which came via knockout or submission. In his most recent bout, the well-rounded Ellis stopped J.T. Taylor in the opening round.

Like his foe Hulett, 18-10, doesn’t believe in leaving the fight in the judges’ hands. The Las Vegas native is a submission specialist who forced 12 of his opponents to tap out, many of whom failed to make out of the opening round.

“This is going to be an amazing fight without question,” said Brian Halquist, the card’s promoter and CEO of Halquist Productions. “Eddy has a huge following in Washington and Hulett’s fought all over the place, so coming into enemy territory isn’t a problem for him. I’d be shocked if this one heard the final bell.”

In the co-featured bout of the evening, hard-hitting veteran Chanti “The Brooklyn Knight” Johnson faces surging submission specialist Ryan Mulvihill of Spokane, WA. Both Johnson, 7-4, and Mulvihill, 4-2, are CageSport veterans.

Doors for “CageSport XVIII” open at 6 pm and the first match takes place at 7 pm. For more information, go to Halquist Productions.com

Other undercard bouts will be announced shortly.

mMA Events on GFL COMBAT SPORTS NETWORK

– Friday, February 10, 2012 8:30pm ET featuring Ring of Combat 38 at Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. The main event, ROC Light Heavyweight Champion Tom DeBlass (6-0) defends his title against Randy Smith (13-9-1). DeBlass is an undefeated fighter who trains out of the Renzo Gracie Academy and has improved his overall game with every fight. A strong grappler, DeBlass also has put together a top-notch striking game and looks to show a new layer to his MMA game against Smith. For Smith, riding a 2-fight win streak of his own, he comes into the contest with almost four times the experience as the champion and brings a tough ground and pound game. It will be very interesting to see how the fight plays out as many times, two grapplers will turn into boxers or kickboxers and put on a standup fight. Expect both DeBlass and Smith to first try out their wrestling and submission game to test their opponent. The winner of this bout has to be considered the top 205 lb prospect in the Northeast, which puts him on the radar of the UFC, so that combined with a title fight makes this main event a great fight. In the co-main event, for the vacant Featherweight Title, Jeff Lentz (8-3-1) battles Giovanni Moljo (4-4) for king of the 145 lb division. Lentz is a Bellator veteran and is coming off 2 wins and 1 draw in his last 3 fights. For the New Jersey native, Lentz, this is the second time he has had the opportunity to go for ROC gold as he lost via decision on his first attempt. Lentz has finished 6 of his 8 opponents and he is ready finish this fight and not leave it in the hands of the judges so expect him to come out guns blazing from the opening bell. For Moljo this is a great opportunity to win gold and a rare no-lose situation. Lentz was supposed to take on former ROC Champion Deividas Taurosevicus but fate turned in the favor of Moljo who now has a chance to shake up the ROC featherweight division with a victory. In other action, former ROC Welterweight Champion Pete Sell (9-6) is back in action facing Mitch Whitesel (16-20) in a 170 lb scrap. For Sell, this is his first bout since losing the title so it will be interesting to see his game plan for Whitesel. Will he come out aggressive or tentative? Knowing Sell, it will be full speed ahead. For Whitesel, a veteran of Strikeforce, this is an opportunity to add another well-known name to his list of opponents and prove once again, that he is willing to fight anyone in the business at the drop of a hat. For the winner, a title fight is not too far off so this is a big fight for both men.

– Saturday, February 11, 2012 8:00pm ET featuring Spartan Fighting Championship 12 presents Invasion at the Morehead Conference Center in Morehead, Kentucky. In the main event, Billy Poe (7-4) fights Steve Bell (4-3) with Poe’s SFC 185 lb Amateur Title at stake. Poe won the championship last November with a second round TKO win. 5 of 7 wins for Poe have come via stoppage and he will look to make Bell number 6. A strong all around fighter, Poe can finish on his feet or on the ground. This is a dangerous fight for Bell, but the spoils are huge if Bell can defeat the champ. Bell is a top flight grappler who has submitted 75% of his opponents. Look for him to try and get Poe to the ground and finish the fight with a choke. This bout promises to tear down the house as both Poe and Bell are always in attack mode. In the co-main event, for the SFC 145 lb Amateur Title, undefeated Champion Bill Conley (7-0) defends against Blayne Hodges (5-1) in what is sure to be a high octane title fight between two top featherweights. Conley has never been pushed yet in his career. A rangy fighter, who stands 6’0″, Conley poses a tough matchup for fellow featherweights, with his long limbs. His specialty is the triangle choke, so that is something Hodges will have to be ready to defend if it goes to the ground. As luck would have it, Hodges is also an experienced grappler and he two likes to end fights with the triangle choke, finishing his last two opponents by this exact move. For fans of grappling, this has all of the makings for fight of the night as there will be a lot of great action if things hit the mat. Also up for grabs is the SFC 135 lb Amateur Title when Champion Ronnie Jordan (7-2) defends his title against an opponent to be determined. Jordan is a powerhouse in the bantamweight division and executes a strong ground game from the top, landing devastating ground and pound combined with slick submission work. Whoever the opponent is is going to have his hands full in this title bout.

– Saturday, February 11, 2012 8:00pm ET featuring The Big Lot Presents Cummings vs Stafford from the O’Reilly Family Event Center, Springfield, Missouri. At 13-3, Zak Cummings has the UFC in his near plans. However, Oklahoma City’s Lamont ‘KO KID’ Stafford has other plans. Very athletic, Stafford most likely has the advantage everywhere but on the ground. Stafford is bigger (6’5″), stronger, and much more athletic. If this fight stays standing, it could be a long night for the hometown fighter. If Cummings is able to get Stafford on the ground, Zak will most likely prevail. Styles make fights, and this one will be fun to watch. Recently offered a UFC fight, this is likely Whitney’s last fight in Springfield. He’s a joy to work with as when he says ‘I want to fight the best,’ he means it. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find someone to rise to the occasion and fight Andrew. Brandon Wood is an Iraq War Veteran, who’s very tough and durable. Both guys prefer to wrestle, but want to stand up. This one should be a stand-up battle, and fun for all involved. Top fighters from local gyms collide when Shepard (Springfield Fit 2 Fight) and Golden (Team Fusion) meet. Golden earned a reputation as one of the top amateurs around over the last few years, and will have a stiff challenge in his pro debut vs. Shepard. Both guys are elite wrestlers. Even better do they genuinely dislike one another? That often makes for ‘fight of the night.’

– Saturday, February 11, 2012 9:00pm ET featuring Cut Throat MMA – Babes and Brawls 10 at the Atlantis Gentlemen’s Club in Ford Heights, Illinois. Cut Throat MMA keeps churning out first-rate events and has quickly established itself as one of the top dogs in the loaded Midwest MMA scene

– Saturday, February 11, 2012 10:30pm ET featuring Fight Night Round XVIII – Clash at the College from The Everett Community College Fitness Center in Everett, Washington. FNE is one of the largest and quickest growing companies throughout the State dedicated to delivering an exhilarating, entertaining, fighter-beneficial, and spectator satisfying experience through each of its promotions. Our organization is proud to say that each event has produced an amazing show of skill and performance displayed through exceptional Fighter Match Making. – Saturday, February 11, 2012 7:30pm ET featuring Rise of a Warrior 5 at the Havert L. Fenn Center in Fort Pierce, Florida. In the main event, for the 155 lb championship, Chad Livingston (5-0) takes on Charles Rosa (9-1). Livingston has been on a tear in the Rise of a Warrior cage, going 4 for 4. Now, as the champion he looks to make it 5 for 5 with Rise of a Warrior as he defends his title against tough challenger Rosa. Rosa’s only loss was a controversial split decision and his wins have come at variety of ways, including KO and submission. This will definitely be the toughest test for Livingston. An experienced grappler, Rosa presents a lot of challenges on the ground, but even more than that is he has twice the amount of cage time as Livingston. For Livingston this is a tremendous opportunity to defend his title against one of the very best lightweights in Florida. The winner of this bout should turn pro as they will have nothing left to prove in the amateur ranks. This bout is sure to be “fight of the night” as these two fighters will bring it. In other action, 16 fighters will compete in a tournament to crown a 170lb champion. The first round will be on February 11, which means 8 tourney fights are scheduled… FNE is one of the largest and quickest

ROCKTAGON MMA

Elyria, OH – January 26, 2012 Rocktagon MMA Worldwide will add a stage next to the cage at Elite Series 15 on February 25th in Elyria, Ohio. Following the fights, nationally know band Mushroomhead will bring their high-energy, theatrical performance to the Rocktagon Arena as the Main Act.

This event marks the East Coast debut of Rocktagon MMA’s premium Rock –n- Rage shows. According to CEO James Jeda, also a music executive, the cross promotion will add value to the show for everyone involved. “The bottom line is that fighters need to get in front of more people. Rock –n- Rage shows draw a bigger crowd and help amateurs increase their exposure while giving fans more for their money,” Jeda explains. “Given the current state of the music industry, an event like this will also allow bands to reach a broader audience. We want to do it to help the bands, the fans, and especially the fighters.“

Rocktagon MMA is the only amateur national fight series in the country and will hold events in at least nine states this year before concluding the season with the amateur Regional and National Championships. Rock –n- Rage premium shows will combine MMA events with national musical performances in select markets.

Jeda believes raising the bar in amateur promotion is necessary to keep pace with professional fight leagues. “Tools like our national championship series and Rock –n- Rage shows will bring amateur fighting to where it needs to be, the forefront.”

ELITE Series 15 takes place Saturday, February 25th at the Rocktagon Arena located at 4377 Midway Mall in Elyria, Ohio. To find out more about Rocktagon MMA, please visit www.rocktagonmma.com. – Friday, January 27, 2012 8:00pm ET featuring Cut Throat MMA Invasion 5 Aurora, La Sierra, Aurora, Illinois. In the main event, for the Cut Throat MMA Middleweight Title, Sam Ferguson (2-1-1) of Carlson Gracie Jiu Jitsu fights Ryan Kirwan (2-3). Ferguson is coming off a first round TKO victory in his last fight, and shows the evolution of the Gracie-schooled fighter. Ferguson’s other victory also came via first round KO so don’t let his home gym fool you, he is an all-around MMA fighter. Kirwan has hit a tough skid, but a victory against Ferfuson will erase his last three fights in a split second. Kirwan also likes to do damage with his fists, as both of this victories have come via KO or TKO stoppage. This could be a wild fight if the athletes decide to keep it standing, someone is bound to drop. It could also be a classic grappling contest, although one that Ferguson should have the advantage. So expect Kirwan to want to turn this into a kickboxing match, which might be just fine for Ferguson. Either way, both gladiators are coming out guns blazing as this is not only the main event, but a title fight, and it would be the first title for either man in their budding MMA careers. In the co-main event, Tom Shoaff fights Anthony Nichols. Being the co-main event is a huge step for these two, so don’t be surprised if they have “fight of the night” and impress the audience with their performance. Both Shoaff and Nichols are well rounded so it will be who can dictate the pace of the fight that might decide who the winner will be. The fighter with the best cardio conditioning will have an edge in this battle.

– Friday, January 27, 2012 8:00pm ET featuring TaKe-On Productions presents Battle at the 7 Train XI at the 7 Train Theatre in Flushing, New York. The card featured at hotly anticipated main event, along with the semifinals of the 155 lb “Rising Stars” 8-man tournament. If you love the striking game, this is the event for you. TaKe-On always puts together great Muay Thai events that feature high level striking with blistering kicks, punches, knees and elbows. In the main event, Turan “The Tornado” Hasanov (6-4) out of the Fight Factory in Brooklyn, New York battles Sean Hinds (15-5) from Mushin MMA in New York City. Hasanov is a fast paced fighter who likes to throw punches in bunches. Look for him to come out using all 8 striking points right from the opening bell. For Hinds, he has a more eclectic style as he has traveled the world and picked up various different styles and methods of Muay Thai. Hinds utilizes primarily stiff punches and kicks along with a very strong clinch to do his damage. This bout will be a matchup of one fighter who looks to constantly strike and put the pressure on while the other fighter is more methodical in his approach and a great counter puncher as well. In one of the 155 lb tournament fights, James Gregory (4-0) from Cool Hearts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, fights Andrilo “Jr” Suarez (2-0) from American Killer Bees in Queens, New York. Both Gregory and Suarez won by decision their last fight and for one of them, a victory here will keep their record perfect and also put them into the finals of the “Rising Stars” Tourney. Gregory has twice the experience as Suarez and will look to capitalize on that by giving Suarez a bunch of different angles when he throws his strikes. For Suarez, he will probably come out hands down and chin up, which has proven very successful in his career so far. In the second bout in the 155 lb tournament, Akio Nakasone (2-0) from The Wat in New York City battles Freddy Cheung (1-1) from Sitan Gym in Queens. Nakasone won his previous bout by decision, while Cheung won his by KO, the only fighter to do so. Both fighters are just getting their Muay Thai careers going and for one of them, a victory here already places them in the finals of the tourney.

– Saturday, January 28, 2012 8:30pm ET featuring Elite 1 MMA – Heavy Hitters, Casino New Brunswick, Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. In the main event, for the Elite 1 MMA Light Heavyweight Championship, Chris Johnson (2-2) fights Dana Dickeson (1-1). Johnson is coming off a victory in his last fight for Elite 1 where he won by rear naked choke in the first round. Johnson likes to bang on his feet, but is also a competent grappler as his last victory showed. For Dickeson, he is looking to get the fight to the ground where he won his first bout via TKO, and deliver some ground and pound on Johnson. With both gladiators liking to fight on the mat, this could be a contest where the wrestling and grappling is nullified and it turns into a boxing or kickboxing match. If that happens, don’t expect the fight to go the distance as these two beasts will be throwing heavy leather. In the co-main event, for the Elite 1 MMA Welterweight Championship, Richard Arsenault (1-2) battles Ricky Goodall (6-4). Arsenault is coming off of a long layoff, so ring rust might be a factor in this bout. It could also be a positive as it gave Arsenault time to hone his craft and come back a completely different fighter. For Goodall, who has 3 times the cage experience as Arsenault, look for him to test Arsenault early to see where his cardio conditioning is go for the win in the opening round. If that happens fans should be treated to a barnburner of a fight, because this bout if for a title and that tends to lend itself to fighters pushing the action even more.

Special Free Weekly View’s of previous PPV fight/events at GFL’s Facebook.com/GFLiTV and Ustream.com/GFLTV

– Friday, January 20, 2012 9:00pm ET featuring School of Hard Knocks 19 Calgary at the Century Casino, Calgary, Canada. In the main event, Paapa Inkumusah (4-3) from Gracie Barra in Calgary, AB takes on Advin Omic (8-4) from Arashi-do in Red Deer, AB in a welterweight tilt. 3 of Inkumusah’s victories have come via submission, which is no surprise as Gracie Barra is one of the most well-known and respected grappling schools in the world. Expect Inkumusah to look for a choke or armlock early if the fight gets to the mat. Omic is on a two-fight win streak and has a variety of submissions wins to his credit too. It will be interesting to see if Omic wants to play the grappling game with Inkumusah or he tries to keep his distance and work the standup game. Either way, fans are in for a great main event. In co-main event, Keto Allen (6-3) from Canuckles MMA in Calgary, AB matches up against Ryan Machan (14-7) from Arashi-do in Red Deer, AB in a 180 lb contest. Allen looks to get back on track with this bout as the tough Calgary scrapper suffered a loss in his last bout. Allen is a fan favorite in Canada for his explosive and aggressive style and he will be ready to put things in to high gear in this bout and see if he can push the pace and break down Machan. For Machan, who is a perennial MFC vet, this bout is very important for him to get back to center stage in Canadian MMA. He is matched up against a very game opponent who needs a win here just as badly, so expect the fireworks to start early and this bout be a candidate for “fight of the night”.

– Friday, January 20, 2012 10:00pm ET featuring Epic Fighting 10 at the Sheraton Hotel, San Diego, California. In the main event, Francisco Castro (5-5) battles Marvin Madariaga (3-0) from Blackhouse Gym in a featherweight scrap. Castro is coming off of a tough loss in the California State Finals back in December and before that bout was on a 4-fight winning streak. Castro is a cage general and controls the pace of the action very well, as he grinds out his opponents for unanimous decisions. He will look to do the same against the upstart Madariaga. For Madariaga, training out of the same gym as UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva, is a big advantage over most other training camps. The undefeated prospect looks to keep his MMA record perfect with a victory against Castro. Madariaga has finished 2 of his fights inside of one round, so expect him to try and implement a style early on that will get Castro on his heels. The co-main event is a rematch between Carlos Caliso Jr. (5-2) from Spiritwolf MMA fights Oscar Gonzalez (4-2) from Victory MMA in a lightweight matchup. In their previous fight, Caliso Jr. picked up the unanimous decision victory. Caliso Jr. is on a 2-fight win streak including picking up a tough victory last June with Epic Fighting. Caliso Jr. is a well-rounded fighter who would prefer to stand and throw down, but is also a competent grappler. For Gonzalez, a veteran of Epic Fighting as well, he will look to extract some revenge on Caliso Jr. and give him a taste of his own medicine. Gonzalez is coming off of a submission victory in his last fight and looks to put all the pieces of the MMA puzzle together, when he steps into the cage with Caliso Jr.

– Saturday, January 21, 2012 7:00pm ET featuring CSC 32 Battleware Fighting Championship at the Crown Plaza Hotel, Richmond, Virginia. Virginia’s #1 hybrid promotion featuring MMA and Muay Thai is back as Combat Sports Challenge (CSC) partners with Battleware Technologies to present CSC 32 Battleware Fighting Championships on January 21 at the Crown Plaza – Richmond West in Richmond, Virginia. The event will be a mixed event featuring pro/am fights in MMA and Muay Thai, including 4 WKA Title bouts and airing live on the GFL Combat Sports Network. In the main event, on the MMA side, Ring of Combat veteran Dwayne Shelton (9-9-1) of Team Combat in Virginia fights Joe Maiani (2-2) of Team Genocide in Ohio. Shelton is comfortable in the standup and grappling games alike, so look for him to mix up his attacks against Maiani in the beginning and try to use his cage experience to pick apart his opponent. Maiani is coming off a first round submission victory and looks to start 2012 off with another quick victory. Maiani is a fast starter, so look for him to try and bring the action to Shelton from the get go. This could be a contrasting of styles, but for MMA fans it should be an exciting and interesting matchup to see which fighter can impose their will. In one of the top Muay Thai battles, Ani Hilditch battles Robin Reese. Hilditch and Reese will be battling for a WKA Championship so expect these two women to come out throwing punches and kicks with bad intentions. Hilditch has been a veteran to the Muay Thai scene for some time now and looks to finally cement her legacy with a championship belt. To do so, she will have to overcome Reese, who has quickly shown that she is ready to fight for a championship. Muay Thai can be a brutal contest of bone cracking strikes. Both Hilditch and Reese promise to do everything in their power to devastate and debilitate one another in this championship bout.

Aldo stops Mendes in one at UFC 142

MAIN EVENT:

JOSE ALDO:

“This is the spirit I wanted to come out with tonight. The fans here gave me so much energy. We knew Chad was going to try to take me off my feet. We prepared for that and I had a chance to land the knee. It connected and I finished the fight. I was so overcome with emotion that I wanted to celebrate with my people.”

CHAD MENDES:

“Jose is a great champion and he was the better man tonight. He showed why he’s one of the best fighters in the world. I knew it would be hard to take him down, but I kept trying. I tried to keep the pressure, but he is just so tough and his takedown defense is great. I wanted the title so bad.”

BOUT EIGHT: PALHARES SUBMITS MASSENZIO

ROUSIMAR PALHARES:

“What a great victory! It’s what I always say when I get in there…if it’s God’s will then it is God’s will. I went in there and got it done. I like submissions and I got another one tonight.”

MIKE MASSENZIO:

“That’s a world-class athlete who was the better fighter tonight. I had the best camp of my career. I just got stuck. It wasn’t my night. I’m really disappointed.”

BOUT SEVEN: PRATER def. SILVA by DQ

CARLO PRATER:

“I’m not a judge. I didn’t stop the fight. All I know is that he hit me and it sent a shock of pain through my body unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. I don’t know if the shots were legal. I just know it was unlike anything I’ve ever felt.”

ERICK SILVA:

“Everyone here knows that wasn’t intentional. I don’t know what else to say.”

BOUT SIX: BARBOZA def. ETIM by KNOCKOUT

EDSON BARBOZA:

“When you fight in Brazil, it’s unlike fighting in any other place in the world. In a fight, you try things and hope they work. Tonight, it (the kick) worked. It’s something I’ve practiced a lot and I finally was able to land it hard. I’m happy with this outcome and you can expect more of that soon.”

TERRY ETIM:

*Transported to local hospital for medical care following the fight and was unavailable for comment*

BOUT FIVE: TAVARES def. STOUT by DECISION

THIAGO TAVARES:

“Sam Stout was the toughest opponent I’ve ever faced and this is the biggest win of my career. I thought about this fight for a long time. I have to be honest: of all the ways I saw this fight going, I never expected to beat him striking. I tried to take the fight to the ground, but he has great takedown defense. The fight stayed on the feet and I was able to win there. I want another big name next.”

SAM STOUT:

“This was my first fight without Shawn (Tompkins). It was definitely an adjustment not having him in my corner. I hope Shawn would be proud.”

“I thought I took rounds two and three, but I just struggled to find my rhythm. My head wasn’t in it in the first round. I had a slow start and I have no one to blame but myself for that.”

Gonzaga submits Oliveira

BOUT FOUR:

GABRIEL GONZAGA:

“It felt great to be back in the Octagon. I showed that I still have my BJJ skills in there tonight. My time away from the UFC was good for me. I dealt with some personal business in my life and came back refocused. Before, I was training well, but my mind just wasn’t in it. Now, I’m back, I feel great. I’m focused and I showed that by beating a 13-0 fighter.”

EDNALDO OLIVEIRA:

“Part of me is sad and part of me is angry. I left an opening and Gabriel capitalized. I wanted to win badly and this is not a good feeling.”

BOUT THREE: ALCANTARA def. OMIGAWA by UNANIMOUS DECISION

YURI ALCANTARA:

“This was like the World Cup for me tonight. To fight against a veteran like him was a true honor. I hope this win proved to the UFC that I’m ready for the main card. I felt like a complete fighter in there tonight.”

MICHIHIRO OMIGAWA:

*Suffered an injury during the contest and was transported to a local hospital for further examination. Thus, he was unavailable for comment.*

BOUT TWO: MIKE PYLE def. RICARDO FUNCH by TKO

MIKE PYLE:

“After my last fight, I took a step back and readjusted some things in my training. I knew that I had to really take a look at my whole MMA game and I think you saw some of the adjustments and improvements tonight. My striking and my overall game have evolved. This was an important fight for me in my career and I appreciate Ricardo taking this fight on short notice.”

RICARDO FUNCH:

“I’m disappointed. I don’t have any excuses. He caught me with a good shot and it was over.”

Felipe Arantes def. Antonio CARVALHO by UNANIMOUS DECISION

FELIPE ARANTES:

“I’m very happy with this win because I went out there and proved to the people of Brazil that I belong in the Octagon. He was a very tough opponent. I had a tough camp and battled some injuries, but I was able to get in there tonight and control the striking and win.”

ANTONIO CARVALHO:

“I expected the crowd to be against me, but I’m not sure it played a big factor. They were definitely loud. In the end, Felipe listened to his corner very well. I wish I would have had more efficient shots (for takedowns) because they worked in the first round. I went for a few too many submissions and tired myself out.”

mMA Events on GFL COMBAT SPORTS NETWORK

– Friday, January 13, 2012 8:00pm ET featuring Spartan Fighting Championship 11 – Destruction, at the National Guard Armory in Ashland, Kentucky. SFC always puts on action-packed cards and this event is no exception. The 17-bout pro/am card has a total of 3 titles up for grabs along with a main event that features two rising prospects on a collision course. SFC only promotes the best prospects in the region as the athletes records speak for themselves. SFC has quickly become the top organization not only in the Bluegrass State by throughout the territory because of its matchmaking and the high quality of fighters that it is able to sign. In the main event, Jason Butcher (2-0) fights Jared “Honey” Combs (7-1) in a pro tussle. Butcher recently turned pro after amassing a (6-2) amateur record. Both of Butcher’s professional victories have come via first round finishes, one KO and one submission. With a strong wrestling and grappling background, Butcher likes to get the fight to the mat where he can work for a submission or use his ground and pound to finish his opponents. Fighting Combs will be like looking in the mirror as he too likes to get fights to the ground and use vicious striking to take his opponents out. Combs has 4 times the experience fighting professionally and that should be an advantage for him in this bout. Neither fighter has ever gone the distance so if the fight gets into the later rounds, conditioning could play a major part. The winner of this bout sets himself up to be the #1 prospect in the entire Ohio Valley region. In the co-main event, Cornelius Godfrey (3-0) battles Thomas Campbell (3-1) for the newly minted SFC 135 lb Pro Championship. Godfrey has finished every opponent that’s been put in front of him, but the challenger on January 13 is going to be the toughest test to date. Campbell is on a 3-fight winning streak with all victories coming way of first round submission. Look for this bout to be “fight of the night” as these two bantamweights don’t know how to pace themselves. Don’t blink as this bout could be over seconds into round one. Also up for grabs are two amateur titles. Undefeated Michael Seals (7-0) battles David West (5-1) for the SFC 170 Amateur Championship, while Chris Brown (5-0) takes on James Williams (3-0) for the SFC 205 lb Amateur Title.

– Friday, January 13, 2012 11:00pm ET featuring Ultimate Reno Combat 30 at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. In the main event, Radames Garcia (6-1) fights Andrey Mitchell (3-2). Garcia, who fights out of Cung Le’s AKA Fight Team, is coming off a spectacular run culminating in winning the CAMO MMA title in a state-wide tournament in California this past December. Garcia also picked up submission of the night for his first round victory to win the championship. Garcia looks to pick up right where he left off in 2012 and build on the success of the past year. Standing in his way is Andrey Mitchell. For Mitchell this is a great opportunity to not only even his record, but defeat a fighter who has a lot of momentum going into the bout. Mitchell is a URC vet as all 5 of his bouts have been inside the URC cage. Coming off the heels of two decision losses, a victory against Garcia could erase those controversial defeats. Expect Mitchell to come out guns blazing as he doesn’t want to let another fight go to the judges. The co-main event features Nathan Brimm (1-0) against “Bad” Brad Robasciotti (1-1) in a 205 lb scrap. Brimm is coming off a first round stoppage victory at URC 21 and will look to get the fight to the mat where his powerful punches can do the most damage. Robasciotti is coming off an injury in his last fight and now that he is completely healed he wants to get back to his winning ways. This bout is going to resemble two bulls in a china shop as there will be chaos and destruction at every turn. Don’t blink as odds are, this bout is not going the distance. Don’t miss this loaded event with 9 high octane bouts.

Knocking Out the Devil

Warriors step into the ring or the cage to do battle, some fight internal battles, few fight both and live to tell their story. On that rare occurrence, that story needs to be told.

Jason “Freebird” Freeman is a husband, father, professional athlete and also the grandson of one Charles Manson and this is his life story. The book was penned by Dannon Svab, owner of the Ohio-based Explosive Fight Promotions organization that has promoted many “Caged Madness” events.

“Jason’s story is one of life, survival and dedication, in today’s world many of our role models are distorted….Jason’s story can make a difference in people’s lives.” said Svab.

An introduction to the book:

““Uh yeah, I got a kid somewhere.” Charles Manson said in a 1981 interview on, Tomorrow with Tom Snyder. The child he was referring to was Jason Freeman’s natural father, Charles Manson Jr. He later became known as Jay White, but it was more like a cover. Hiding the heinous birthday name his own father tarnished.

Manson was the family’s real surname.

Freeman’s natural father missed Jason growing up. Writing an occasional letter was his only involvement. Never talking face-to-face, Freeman didn’t understand what was going on with his natural father.

Freeman, later would learn more and begin to understand the impact of Charles Manson directing the most horrific Hollywood murders ever. His natural father was unable to withstand the shadow of Charles Manson that ultimately claimed his life. Freeman knew part of that same intense shadow hovered over him, but he decided to fight back.”

Melendez retains Strikeforce Lightweight crown

Cris Cyborg wasted no time as she needed just sixteen seconds to dust Hiroko Yamanaka to defend her Featherweight title.

Cybir landed a punch that sent the Japanese challenger to the canvas. Yamanaka quickly got to her feet but ate a flurry of punches and the fight was stopped.

Cybor, 145 lbs of San Diego is now 11-1 with nine knockouts. Yamanaka of Japan is 12-2.

Former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion, Gegard Mousasi scored a three round unanimous decision over Ovince St. Preaux.

Mousasi did well with St. Preaux on the gorund. St. Preaux made a late effort with a front choke but the bell rang to signal the end of the bout.

Mousasi 206 lbs of the Netherlands won by scores of 29-28 on all cards and is now 32-3-2. St. Preaux, 206 lbs of Knoxville, TN had his eight fight win streak snapped and is now 11-5.

In a good back and forth slugfest, KJ Noons scored a three round unanimous decision over Billy Evangelista in a Welterweight bout.

Both landed heavy shots but Noons got the better of the exchanges and bloodied the left eye of Evangelista.

Noons, 156 lbs of San Diego, CA won by scores of 29-28 on all cards and breaks a two fight losing streak and is now 10-3-1. Evangelista lost his second straight and is now 11-2

Starace won the title at the inaugural DSMMA event in October with a unanimous victory in a bout that was a barnburner. The champ is back and ready for his first title defense as he looks to keep his career moving in the right direction. For Carbonel, three of his five wins have come via submission, so don’t be surprised if Carbonel looks for a takedown early in Round 1. Carbonel is on a two-fight win streak and looks to make it three in a row and take home the Dead Serious 145 lb title in the process. The featherweight division is one of the sport’s most exciting divisions, so don’t blink during the main event, because it will look like two Tasmanian Devils attacking one another. In another tri-main event, Stephen Regman (5-2) fresh of a victory at Dead Serious One and the reigning Welterweight Champion will defend his title against Michael Sanders (4-1). Regman is known for his hand speed and power, but he also showed in his last fight that he has great cardio conditioning and enough in the tank to win a hard fought decision as well. For Sanders, he is coming off a submission victory in less than a minute for a championship in another organization, so expect him to want to pick up right where he left off and look to take Regman down to the mat and apply another quick submission. In the third title fight of the evening, Dead Serious Lightweight Champion Jonathan Pecyna (4-2) battles undefeated fighter Chris Sladky (2-0). Pecyna won the title by choke in spectacular fashion and is set to defend his title and end 2011 with a bang

– Saturday, December 17, 2011 9:00pm ET featuring Ring of Fire 42 – Who’s Next, 1st Bank Center, Bloomfield, CO. Headlining the event will be a battle of two of the top Featherweight prospects in the country. Former ROF Champion Tyler THUNDER Toner (12-3) will be going after another “W” against one of the region’s most dangerous fighters Nick Macias (9-4). After the conclusion of ROF 41 there was no one more deserving of a standing ovation then Colorado’s Tyler Toner. In one of the most amazing displays of heart and tenacity, Toner struggled to hold off a stronger opponent, JR Sims for 3 rounds. In what became a comeback for the ages, Toner stunned Sims late in the 3rd and continued to press the attack until the referee was forced to stop the fight? The entire arena was on its feet and the feeling was electric. Making his debut to the RING OF FIRE and the 145lb weight class is former IFL Champion Ryan THE LION Schultz. Schultz is an American mixed martial artist that has competed in some of the world’s most recognized fighting organizations including the WEC, Sengoku, and the IFL. With a strong background in wrestling, several years of experience, and an explosive fighting style, Ryan is a fierce competitor and one of the sport’s most exciting fighters to watch. Shultz was always known as one of the bigger 155 lb fighters and will be huge at 145. Shultz started his career with the famous Team Quest in the Pacific North West. But the Nebraska native moved back towards his roots and now runs TRIALS MMA in Ft. Collins, CO with UFC fighter Ed Herman. Michelle BOBCAT Blalock is quickly becoming a fan favorite at ROF. Her high energy entrances to the cage, and high intensity inside the cage gets the fans on their feet. Her trademark growl across the cage has both her opponent and some of the VIP’s front row having second thoughts. Blalock is a Sambo based fighter and has a perfect record of 7-0. She has finished all but one of her opponents. She will be making her 2nd defense of the promotions’ 125 lb Young Gun Belt at ROF 42: WHO’S NEXT. A win here will put her in the top rankings and open up opportunities internationally as well. After 3 opponents dropping out, Strikeforce veteran Lacey THE LADY Schuckman has agreed to face Blalock for the belt. Shuckman has a 6-4 MMA record and is coming off of her pro boxing debut, where she TKO’ed her opponent in the first round. The fighter making the fastest rise up the ranks is high level wrestler Justin THE HIGHLIGHT Gaethje. He has moved through every opponent put in front of him and has a perfect 9-0 record. After his first few fights ROF promoter Sven Bean gave him the nick name “THE HIGHLIGHT”. “This kid is a stud, if he gets his hands on you there is a great chance you will be flying through the air. The nick name was a natural because after every one of his fights we have 4-5 highlights for the next fight. He is going to go as far as he wants in this sport.” said Bean. Already more than one MMA reporter has noticed his resemblance in style to an early Matt Hughes, if that is any indication as to his future..it is very bright. Facing Gaethje will be Donnie THE HITMAN Bell from Grand Pararie, Texas. The 21 year old fighter has Record 6-1 record and a strong wrestling background as well. He was Texas State wrestling champion, and at the college level wrestled in Iowa under Luke Moffat. Industry insiders are already laying odds as to this bout taking Fight of the Night Honors.

– Sunday, December 18, 2011 (Tape Delayed VOD Next week) featuring Thai Fight – 2011 Finals, Bangkok, Thailand. Buakaw Por. Pramuk from Thailand faces Frankie Giorgio from Australia in the 154 lb tournament finale. Buakaw has been dubbed a “national treasure” of Thailand and is the heavy favorite going into the bout against Giorgi in front of his homeland of Thailand. This is a matchup of conflicting styles in this super welterweight battle as Buakaw is a precision striker, who darts in to land strikes and then moves to a safe distance before his opponent can launch his own attack, while Giorgio has been compared to the movie character, Rocky, for his ability to wade into punches and kicks and absorb a lot of punishment while dishing out his own. Giorgi will need a Rocky-type performance as Buakaw has not been beaten since his days where he dominated K-1 many years ago. Kem Sitsongpeenong from Thailand battles last year’s Thai Fight Tournament Champion, Fabio Pinca from France in the 147 lb tournament final. Pinca’s WBC World Welterweight Championship will also be on the line in this bout as he looks to repeat as Thai Fight Champion in back to back years. Kem defeated Pinca earlier in their careers but this bout will be an entirely different animal. Both fighters have grown since their first meeting and if anything, all it will do is light a fire under Pinca’s belly to avenge the loss. Kem will have the home crowd at his side and will need all the help he can get as Pinca has been on a hot streak for the last two years. Pinca is also a wizard at tight grappling and clinch work, so he will prove a tough test for Kem when they two go to battle on the inside.

Ring of fire 42 who’s next Live IPPV on GFL

Denver, Colorado – RING OF FIRE MMA returns to Colorado!! For the past eleven years ROFMMA has launched the careers of countless superstars of the sport. Carwin. Cerrone. Condit. Ludwig. Henderson. Garcia. Schaub. The list goes on and on…

On Saturday Dec 17th at the 1STBANK Center MMA fans will get the opportunity to find out WHO’S NEXT by Watching LIVE iPPV at either http://rofmma.com/v2/live/ or www.GFL.tv.

In that moment Toner also cemented his spot in the main event for ROF 42: WHO’S NEXT.

ROF Promoter Sven BOOGIE Bean was so impressed he immediately made up his mind to bring Toner back for the next event. “Tyler is exactly the kind of fighter the ROF fans want to see. He has a never give up mentality and is always looking to finish fights, even when the chips are down. He has been a fixture with Ring Of Fire since 2005 and I am proud to have him headline this show.”

Toner was able to string enough wins on ROF events to get the call to the WEC and eventually the UFC. Under the Zuffa banner he had 3 wars that were great battles, but after losing two decisions, the talent laden promotion was forced to cut him loose with the familiar “go out, get a couple wins, and we’ll bring you right back”

Toner is just one win from that goal, and is looking to finish his opponent Nick Macias in any means necessary.

Nick Macias is known for his hard hitting, aggressive in your face style of fighting. He has amassed a 9-4 MMA record, and is riding a 4 fight win streak. Macias might just be the perfect foil for Toner’s plans and also has his sights set on a larger contract. A win against Toner would put Macias in position to advance his career to the next step and steal some of Toner’s THUNDER along the way. Macias is coming into the fight fresh off a victory of one of Toner’s stable mates, BJJ Black Belt Josh Ford. Macias was able to use his style to control the bout against the decorated grappler, and win a unanimous decision. Macias trains with UFC vet Chris Camozzi out of Factory X Muay Thai. This camp is quickly making waves in the fight community and is showing that it is a team to be reckoned with in the talent heavy region.

Making his debut to the RING OF FIRE and the 145lb weight class is former IFL Champion Ryan THE LION Schultz. Schultz is an American mixed martial artist that has competed in some of the world’s most recognized fighting organizations including the WEC, Sengoku, and the IFL. As always the ROF card will be stacked from top to bottom with the best fighters in the region. This event will feature the return of a few fan favorites and some fighters making their ROFMMA debut as well.

cffc 12 – pollard vs soto Live IPPV on GFL

Atlantic City, New Jersey – Cage Fury Fighting Championships returns December 10 to Atlantic City, New Jersey as it presents CFFC 12 – Pollard vs Soto at the Resorts Hotel and Casino and Live iPPV Broadcast on www.GFL.tv. The exciting card is loaded with the top fighters on the East Coast and is headlined by 4 TITLE FIGHTS! CFFC has been on a rampage since its re-launch and MMA fans in the Tri-State area won’t want to miss this stacked card.

In the main event, CFFC Welterweight Champion, Chip “The Surgeon” Pollard (5-2) defends his title for the first time against UFC veteran Greg Soto (8-2). Pollard won the title last July in an upset against former champ Joey Rivera by TKO due to cuts. Things won’t get any easier for the new champ as his first title defense is against Soto who just had a 3-fight stint in the UFC. Pollard got the nickname “The Surgeon” because of his pinpoint accuracy and he will need to be on-point with his strikes as Soto is grappling wizard so if things hit the mat, it will be to Soto’s advantage.

The CFFC Light Heavyweight Title will also be on the line as undefeated amateur Daniel Holmes will make his pro debut against Chris “The Finisher” Sydnor (1-5). Holmes was quite impressive during his amateur tenure, even winning a title. He looks to make a splash into the professional ranks as he is fighting for another title in his first pro bout. For Sydnor, he fought for and won earlier this year in CFFC by KO and that victory made quite an impression on the CFFC officials as they now matched him up in a title fight.

Chris “The Story” Liguori (13-9) battles Don Carlo-Clauss (7-5) for the vacant CFFC Lightweight Title. Both fighters have fought at 170 lb their entire careers, so this will be an interesting fight to see if the added weight cut will have adverse effects on their performances. Earlier this year, Liguori had a hard fought, tough, split decision loss in a CFFC Welterweight Title, but came back strong in his next bout picking up a victory by KO. For Liguori, a win against Carlo-Clauss would close out a busy year with CFFC on a great note for the Ricardo Almeida student. Carlo-Clauss is coming off of a tough loss on the Strikeforce: Fedor VS Silva card and looks to put that past him and close out the year as CFFC Lightweight Champion. Carlo-Clauss’ biggest attribute is his cardio conditioning as he likes to grind out his opponents for decisions, so the extra weight cut down to 155 lb could be very instrumental into Carlo-Clauss’ game plan going into the fight. Expect a “fight of the night” here as these two gladiators will come out guns blazing.

The final title on the line will crown the CFFC Featherweight Champion as undefeated fighters Steve Perez (2-0) fights Dan Cion (3-0) in what is sure to be a barnburner. Perez won both of his fights earlier this year inside the CFFC cage by submission and looks to make it number three against Cion. For Cion, who is also a CFFC veteran, he prefers to pressure his opponents for a whole fight, and where them down and winning by decision. It will be a clash of styles and game plans as these to 145 lb scrappers hook horns in the CFFC cage.

In the main event, for WBC INTERNATIONAL CHALLENGE SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE, Gabriel Varga takes on Justin “The Purple People Eater” Greskiewicz. This will be a rematch fight as the two fought previously and Varga defeated Greskiewicz by unanimous decision. Varga recently fought and won the WFK World Title in September under the K-1 banner against Dutch striker Roy Tan by third round knockout. Earlier in the year, Varga also won the WKN World Lightweight Title by defeating Frenchman Yohan Ha Van by unanimous decision. Greskiewicz recently won a rubber match against tough opponent Turan Hasanov by decision and followed that up with a victory in October against Eddie Martinez at Battle at Bally’s. Expect “The Purple People Eater” to do his best James Brown impression and try to give Varga “The Big Payback” in this headlining bout. In the co-main event, James “B-52” Smith of New Jersey fights Ryan Murray out of Greg Nelson’s Camp in Minnesota (the same camp where former UFC Heavyweight Champion and WWE World Champion Brock Lesnar trained). This is a battle of two of the top cruiserweights in North America and should be in the running for “fight of the night” as Smith and Murray only have one speed and that’s overdrive. New to Muay Thai? If the answer is “yes” then you need to order his iPPV and see what happens when fighters are allowed to use all 8 points of contact instead of only 2 as in Western Boxing. – Saturday, December 3, 2011 10:00pm ET featuring MMA Epic Fighting 9, Sheraton Hotel, San Diego, CA. The 15-bout card is the culmination of a lot of hard work as the hotly anticipated California State Mixed Martial Arts Finals are finally here. There’s no telling what is going to happen in the 2011 EPIC Fighting finale featuring the richest talent-laden amateur tournament to hit California’s mixed martial arts scene ever. Fighters from both Southern and Northern California will be competing in this impressive event where the stars of tomorrow will compete today. In one of the co-main events, Richard Parra (6-4) battles Francisco “Panchito” Castro (5-3) in a featherweight tussle. Parra trains at The Pit, world famous for being the home of former UFC Champion Chuck “The Iceman” Liddell. Parra utilizes the same style as Liddell as 5 of his 6 wins have come via KO or TKO. For Castro, who is riding a 4-fight win streak he prefers to grind out his opponents and break their will as 4 of his 5 victories have come via decision. Expect the clash of styles between these two warriors to make for an exciting fight as they try to take the next step in their MMA careers and become Champion of California. Nobody puts on high octane fights like the lighter weight athletes so assume Parra versus Castro will be in the running for “fight of the night”. In another high profile match and a battle of undefeated fighters, Mike Flach (5-0) meets Lamar Reed (4-0) in a middleweight bout. Flach is a well-rounded fighter with victories coming via KO and submission. The Millennia MMA trained athlete will need everything in his arsenal to defeat Reed. For Reed, fighting out of Oakdale MMA’s Last Stand Fight, he will look to utilize his wrestling advantage which he has successful used to shut down all of his previous opponents. Reed is a 2X All-American in college and placed at the Greco Nationals so expect him to look for a takedown early and often. Flach will have to be able to fight from his back which is something he is very capable of doing, so this fight should be a barnburner. All of the weight classes will be on the line including, flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight. That’s 9 divisions and titles that will be in the mix on Dec. 3 so don’t miss this unique opportunity to see some of the sports brightest athletes compete in the deepest amateur tournament in California history.
