David Benavidez blows out Lemieux

GLENDALE, Ariz. —David Benavidez was looking for a challenge. He didn’t get one. David Lemieux never had a chance.

Benavidez continued to show why he ranks as perhaps the most avoided fighter in boxing since Antonio Margarito.

He’s feared, more feared now than he was before he walked through a roaring crowd at Gila River Arena, up the steps and through the ropes. Fear came in combos, all more reasons to avoid the unbeaten super-middleweight.

The deadly delivery in a Showtime blowout Saturday night included early body punches. Then, there was a lethal uppercut, the first of what was an incoming storm.

One after another, he left Lemieux bloodied, dazed and defenseless. At the end of the first, Lemieux slumped along the ropes. In the second, Benavidez knocked the Canadian through the ropes with a blinding succession of punches.

Early in the third, it was over. At 1:31 of the round, it was stopped. Lemieux was led to his corner and placed on his stool, looking like an accident victim. He showed courage. But it was futile, if not foolish.

Above all, it was another reason to be wary of the Phoenix fighter, especially if you’re Caleb Plant or Jermall Charlo. Nobody knows what Canelo Alvarez plans to do next. He plans to choose between a rematch with Dmitry Bivol or a third fight with Gennadiy Golovkin in September.

“I’m waiting for them to sign the contract,’’ Benavidez (26-0, 23 KOs) said in the immediate aftermath of the carnage. “Them bitches know what’s up.”

A beating is up, if Saturday night is a reliable guide. Lemieux (43-5, 36 KOs), a former middleweight champion, was overmatched in every way. He was just too small. Yet, his evident courage and world-class experience indicated he might have a chance.

But he didn’t, a warning sign to all the super-middleweight champions and contenders.

“I think we can make some of those fights — Plant or Charlo or David Morrell — happen, maybe by the end of the year,’’ Benavidez said during the post-fight news conference.

With the victory, Benavidez won the World Boxing Council’s so-called interim title. It could be significant, but that depends on Canelo. It’s supposed to lead to a mandatory shot at the WBC’s real title, which Canelo still holds.

But a mandatory shot at Canelo is an illusion, according to Benavidez promoter Sampson Lewkowicz.

“Forget Canelo,” Lewkowicz said. “Plant, Morrell and Charlo are the ones we’re talking about. Canelo isn’t going to fight Benavidez.

“He’s never going to fight the world’s real super-middleweight champion.’’

Yoelvis Gomez, Dominates, wins one-sided Decision

Yoelvis Gomez fled Havana and escaped to Guatemala on a raft. It was a perilous journey. Gomez had only his will, wits and fast hands. The wit and will are still there.

So, too are those fast hands.

Jorge Cota was no match for the hands, which proved to be a deadly mix of speed, power and precision in a one-sided junior-middleweight fight, the last bout before the Benavidez-Lemieux main event Saturday night in Glendale, Ariz.

Gomez, who won a unanimous decision — scorecard shutout over 10 rounds, did everything and anything he wanted except stop Cota. It was a bout that could have been stopped at any time. The third round was one of those times. A huge right hand from Gomez drove Coto into the ropes. The Mexican rebounded, almost like an object in a slingshot. Gomez caught him and threw the Mexican onto the canvas. The takedown was ruled a slip. It should have ended there.

But the rout went on. And on. Gomez didn’t miss much. He was dropping punches from all angles onto Cota (30-6, 27 KOs). He even landed one that caught veteran referee Wes Melton. It was a glancing blow at the end of the wild third. It missed Melton’s jaw and glanced off the top of his chest, just below his black bow tie. as he was trying to separate the fighters and send them to their corners. It was harmless.
Nonetheless, it was a moment that summed up how busy and aggressive Gomez is.

Don’t get in his way.

Luis Nunez wins narrow decision in tough featherweight bout

Luis Nunez possessed power, enough of it to send echoes throughout a crowded arena. Jonathan Fierro had guts, enough of it to wonder at how he could still be standing.Power prevailed.

Nunez (17-0, 12 KOs), of the Dominican Republic, won, scoring a unanimous decision — 96-94 on all three cards — over Fierro (13-1, 12 KOs) in a terrific featherweight bout in the first televised bout on a Showtime card featuring David Benavidez-David Lemieux at Gila River Arena.

Nunez power was deadly and often precise. It shook Fierro’s balance. It rocked. But it never knocked him down. But Nunez’ accuracy was telling. He landed 44 percent of his body shots. It was just enough for a narrow victory on the scorecards. Fierro, a proud Mexican, left the ring in tears. But his exit was followed by only cheers.

Victor Ortiz wins unanimous decision

He’s 35 years old. He’s had movie roles. He’s been in the headlines. He’s been in the middle of controversy. It’s a long resume. It continues.

Victor Ortiz fights on, this time winning a back-and-forth battle for a unanimous decision over Todd Manuel at Gila River Arena Saturday in the last fight before the Showtime telecast of the David Benavidez-David Lemieux featured card.

Ortiz (33-7-3, 25 KOs), a World Boxing Council welterweight champion in 2011, suffered a cut near his left eye in the third round. He got knocked down in the final moments of the tenth and final round. But his power is still there. It rocked Manuel (20-20-1, 6 KOs), of Louisiana, repeatedly. The power was enough to overcome the cut and the knockdown. Power enough to survive once again.

Stoppage streak resumes

Elijah Garcia stayed at home. Stayed unbeaten, too. Garcia (11-0, 9 KOs), an emerging welterweight from Glendale AZ, put together a solid six rounds in his home town arena, mixing power and poise while scoring two knockdowns en route to a unanimous decision over Rowdy Montgomery (7-4-1, 5 KOs) Saturday on a card featuring David Benavidez-David Lemieux at Gila River Arena. It was the first fight on the card to go to the scorecards. The first five fights ended in stoppage. It looked as if Garcia might stop Montgomery in the third. That’s when dropped him twice. But the fighter from Victorville, Calif. recovered and was able to take the bout to the sixth and final round.

KO string continues

There was no power outage in the fifth fight. Richardson Hitchins (14-0, 6 KOs), a super-lightweight from Brooklyn, made sure of it. He kept the stoppage streak going, five-for-five, scoring a fourth-round TKO of Mexican Angel Rodriguez (12-11-3, 5 KOs) on the non-televised portion of the Benavidez-Lemieux card.

KO run continues: Stoppages in second, third and fourth fights on Benavidez-Lemieux card

It’s a card that promises knockouts. It didn’t take long for it to deliver.Four fights, four stoppages, opened the show, a powerful introduction on the non-televised card featuring the potential hard-hitting main event between David Benavidez and David Lemieux on Showtime. A first-round KO in the first bout was followed by a scary KO.Welterweight Estevan Villalobos (16-1-1, 12 KOs), another Washington fighter trained by Jose Benavidez Sr, landed a short right hand that lifted Christian Edwards up and onto the canvas midway through the third-round. Edwards (13-4, 6 KOs), of Houston, was flat on his back,, motionless, for several long seconds before he was helped to his feet. He was able to leave the ring under his own power.

The third fight was over within 99 seconds. Micky Scala (6-0, 4 KOs), a popular junior-middleweight from Mesa AZ, steamrolled Mike Plazola (2-2), knocking him down four times.

The fourth fight was over before the first round ended. Las Vegas super-middleweight Chavon Davis (1-0, 1 KO) barely had enough time to break a sweat in his pro debut. He blew away Brent Oren (4-9, 1 KO, of Virginia, midway through the first.

First Bell: Benavidez-Lemieux card begins with first-round KO

It was a matinee. A short one.

First bell still echoed through an empty Gila River Arena when the opening fight on the card featuring David Benavidez-David Lemieux ended Saturday.

It was over, 2:01 after the bell, lightweight Julio Hernandez (2-0, 2 KOs) the sudden winner. Hernandez — a Kent WA lightweight who had Benavidez dad and trainer, Jose Sr.  in his corner — scored two knockdowns of Gibran Perez (0-1, a late stand-in who didn’t stand up for long.

Benavidez-Lemieux: Scale is no challenge for Benavidez this time

By Norm Frauenheim-

GLENDALE, Ariz. – It’s the only place he’s ever lost.

But the scale is no longer David Benavidez’ biggest challenge.

Benavidez (25-0, 22 KOs), who lost the World Boxing Council’s super-middleweight title when he failed to make the weight in 2020, came in under the 168-pound mandatory Friday for an interim belt in a Showtime-televised bout Saturday against David Lemieux (43-4, 36 KOs) at Gila River Arena.

Under a hot desert sun at high noon, Benavidez stepped lightly on a scale located on a stage set on a pavilion outside of the ice-hockey arena’s front doors.

No problem. Jenny Craig would have been proud. Benavidez was more than a pound lighter than the maximum. He was at 166.4 pounds. Lemieux, a former 160-pound champion, was at 166.2.

The 25-year-old Benavidez couldn’t recall when he’s ever been so light. He grew up chubby. He likes to joke that he was the fat kid in the background of photos that featured his older brother, Jose Benavidez Jr., a former national amateur champion and an ex-junior-welterweight belt-holder.

When asked whether his second son has ever been so light, father and trainer Jose Benavidez Sr. shouted:

“Never.’’

The scale had loomed as problematic since David Benavidez was stripped of the title after he was 2.8 pounds heavier than the limit in August 2020. He went on to score a 10th-round stoppage of Roamer Alexis Angulo at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. But he left the ring without the belt he has been trying to regain ever since.

Making the weight Friday is a key step in that direction. It keeps him in line for a mandatory shot at a title now in Canelo Alvarez’ possession. He has to beat Lemieux to stay there.

“David Benavidez is very solid, a big challenge,’’ said Lemieux, a Montreal fighter and the designated challenger in the main event on the Showtime telecast (7 pm PT/10 pm ET). “But I’m here to fight him. I’m here to take that belt away from him.’’

Benavidez is heavily-favored. He’s bigger. He’s younger. He’ll be fighting in front of a hometown crowd. He grew up in a tough Phoenix neighborhood, about seven miles from Gila River.

“This fight is not going to go the distance,’’ said Benavidez, who was already at the required weight on Monday. “It’s going to end in a knockout.

“And I’m going to win it.’’

TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR GUADALAJARA SHOW ON JUNE 10

Tickets are on sale NOW for the World title double header on Friday June 10 at the Domo Alcalde in Guadalajara, Mexico live worldwide on DAZN – topped by WBA Super and Ring Magazine World Light-Flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi defending his straps against Esteban Bermudez, in the latest installment of Matchroom and DAZN’s fight series in Mexico, in association with Canelo Promotions and Clase Y Talento

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW STARTING AT $150 PESOS FROM STAGEFRONT.COM

Kyoguchi (15-0 10 KOs) puts the titles he ripped from Heikie Buddler in December 2018 on the line for the fourth time and makes a welcome return to the ring after his entertaining battle with the pocket rocket Axel Aragon Vega in Dallas in March 2021 came to an end when the challenger was forced to quit the bout with a hand injury in the fifth round.

The Japanese, who previously defended the titles in successive points wins over Tanawat Nakoon and Tetsuya Hisada in June and October of 2020 in his homeland, fights in Mexico for the first time in the paid ranks and does so against a hungry contender.

Bermudez (14-3-2 10 KOs) holds the WBA Regular title after handing a first career defeat to defending champion Carlos Canizales in stunning fashion – flooring the belt-holder towards the end of the sixth round before wiping him out with 23 seconds left in the session. The 26 year old will be fired up to elevate to Super champ and rip the coveted Ring Magazine strap from Kyoguchi, providing all the necessary ingredients for fireworks in the main event.

Mayerlin Rivas will defend her WBA World Super-Bantamweight title against Isis Vargas Perez. Rivas (16-4-2 10 KOs) makes the first defense of the belt that she landed in her last outing back in February 2020, beating Laura Ledezma in Panama City in February to become a two-weight World ruler at the second attempt. The Venezuelan became Bantamweight champion in June 2015 and made three defenses, winning two and drawing one, and makes a welcome return to action as she looks to start a path to becoming unified and undisputed at 122lbs.

Perez (8-5 3 KOs) will have other ideas though, and on home turf, the Mexican aims to become a World champion for the first time at the second attempt. The 24 year old met Yamileth Mercado for the WBC crown in April, and bounces straight back into World title action just two months later.

Jorge Castaneda and Eduardo Hernandez will meet for the WBC International Super-Featherweight title in a huge fight for the division. Texan Castaneda (15-1 11 KOs) enters the bout on the back of two key wins, picking up a majority decision against unbeaten Otha Jones III in Florida in April 2021, and then travelling to London, England to nix another nil by beating Youssef Khoumari in October, again via majority decision.

Castaneda enters hostile territory once again to make a first defense of the vacant title he landed in the UK, meeting ‘Rocky’ Hernandez (31-1 28 KOs) in his stomping ground. The 24 year old is on a three-fight KO streak following his sole loss to date in July 2019 to now World champion Roger Gutierrez and sitting at #8 in the WBC, there is plenty at stake in this crunch clash of two powerful 130lbers looking to climb the rankings and breathe down the necks of the top five in the WBC.

Diego Pacheco (14-0 11 KOs) continues to be a must-watch talent and the 21 year old ticks off another major milestone as he stretches his legs over the ten round distance for the first time against Raul Ortega (10-2 7 KOs), Aaron Aponte fights for the sixth time in the paid ranks against Leo Leon Martinez (2-1 2 KOs) and there will be more additions to the card, including Eddie Hearn’s latest Stateside signing, to be announced today.

I am expecting someone who could be a world champion one day, that is the mindset that I’m bringing into the ring. I’m not looking past anyone in this game.”

BOXXER RETURNS TO MIDLANDS WITH BREAKTHROUGH EVENT ON SATURDAY, JUNE 25

Coventry, England – (20th May 2022) – A new generation of future British boxing stars alongside midlands talent will be showcased live on Sky Sports next month when BOXXER rolls into the English heartlands for an event at Coventry SkyDome on Saturday, June 25.

Adam ‘The Assassin’ Azim (4-0, 3 KO’s), described by trainer Shane McGuigan as “the best natural talent I’ve ever worked with”, brings his spectacular skills to the ring in a World Youth Championship bout as he continues his journey from teenage prodigy to future world champion.

Azim won ten national titles as an amateur and was ranked #1 in the world at welterweight before turning professional in 2020, where he has continued to win plaudits and show every sign of living up to the potential which has industry insiders so excited by him .

Also heading to Coventry on the path to future greatness is Tokyo 2020 Olympic Medallist Karriss Artingstall. She will make her highly-anticipated professional boxing debut following a glittering amateur career which culminated in a bronze medal in the latest Olympics.

From Bunny Johnson – Britain’s first black heavyweight champion – through to Robert McCracken and Frankie Gavin, the Midlands has a long history of producing elite boxing talents who have made their mark on the sport.

Leading the region’s new generation on their own march to the top are BOXXER Series tournament winners Cori Gibbs (16-0, 3 KO’s) and Dylan Cheema (5-0, 1 KO’s).

Undefeated Birmingham battler Gibbs, who won the eight-man BOXXER Series Liverpool: Super-Lightweights tournament in November, will face the tough and wily Carlos ‘Raton’ Perez (17-6-2, 2 KO’s), the current Spanish lightweight champion

Cheema, who won last month’s BOXXER Series: Coventry tournament in spectacular fashion despite entering as an unknown underdog, is making a quick return to the ring for the first fight of his newly-signed multi-fight promotional deal with BOXXER.

Birmingham’s Sam Eggington (31-7, 18 KO’s), a two-time ‘Fight of the Year’ winner and firm crowd favourite thanks to his all-action fighting style, looks set to deliver another crowd-pleasing performance as he challenges for the IBO Super Welterweight Championship against undefeated Pole Przemyslaw Zysk (18-0, 6 KO’s)

Both fighters have a reputation for never taking a backwards step, making this another potential ‘Fight of the Year’ nominee for Eggington and an encounter likely to produce many a highlight-reel moment.

The rematch for the English Middleweight Championship between River Wilson Bent (12-0-1, 5 KO’s) and Tyler Denny (13-2-3) will be taking place on this card after their controversial and explosive first fight that ended prematurely after a clash of heads, resulting in a technical draw.

With a torrent of bad blood running through this fight and a score to settle after their first encounter, this is another of the evening’s bouts which guarantees sensational action from start to finish.

Undefeated 6’3” middleweight Shakiel Thompson (7-0, 5 KO’s) will be returning to action on this card, along with Scottish cruiserweight Scott Forrest (22-24, 4 KO’s) and Welsh super-bantamweight prospect Rhys Edwards (12-0, 4 KO’s).

Tickets for this event go on sale Friday 20 May at 12pm midday via boxxer.com/tickets

Anthony Nieves Looks to get Career Back on Track with Victory Against Judy Flores

CLEVELAND, OH (May 20, 2022) – Former Super-Flyweight World Title Challenger Antonio Nieves (19-3,1, 11 KOs), is looking to get back on track when he returns this Saturday, May 21, 2022, at The Civic Center in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Nieves will square off against Judy Flores (10-0, 6 KOs), who hails from the Philippines, in a scheduled 8-round bout.

“I want to thank my management and training team Tim VanNewhouse and Joe Delguyd for getting me this opportunity,” said Nieves. “I know I’m a world-class fighter, and a victory will put me back in position to get some big fights. I have been out of the ring for over two years since losing to Joshua Greer Jr., A fight I felt I won. I needed to decide if I wanted to keep going since this is such a thankless sport. Thankfully, I found my motivation and I am ready to get back into the big fights.”

The card promoted by Vick Green will be headlined by local draw Thomas Mattice.

“Ive’ worked with Antonio since his Pro-Debut and Joe Delguyd and I want him to get the most out of his career,” said Tim VanNewhouse. “This is a big chance for him to get back into the world ratings and position himself as one of the sports world contenders. I think he is going to be the best version of himself when he steps into the ring on Saturday.”

“My goal is to show the world what I am capable of after a setback,” concluded Nieves. “I feel I only have one loss, Inoue, one of the best fighters in the world. I feel largely disrespected and underappreciated, so I am going to go out and take what I feel is owed to me and that starts with this fight.”

Michael Dutchover To take on Clarence Booth In Last Chance Tournament Friday Night in Plant City, Florida

PHILADELPHIA, PA /Ontario, CA (May 19, 2022) – Junior welterweight Michael Dutchover (15-2, 10 KOs) will take part in The Last Chance Tournament when he battles veteran Clarence Booth (21-4, 13 KOs) in a scheduled 8-round bout on Friday night in Plant City, Florida. Dutchover of Midland, Texas is promoted by Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing. The fight will be streamed on the Probox TV App.

“It will be great to get under the bright lights again, I miss that feeling,” said the 24-year-old Dutchover. “We are taking this one fight at a time, and we have Booth in front of us on Friday.”

On Booth, “He has good fights under his belt and he has been in with some good contenders. I have studied some film on him, and I am looking forward to imposing my will on him. I am ready to go.”

Dutchover is coming off a disappointing loss to Nahir Albright on September 14, 2021, and now looks to get back on the right course to major fights.

“I have never taken the easy route, my last fight was a learning experience,” continued Dutchover, “When you get knocked down, the key is how you get back up. This is a great opportunity for me to show how much I have improved from my last outing. I feel that I am the guy to beat. New NABA Super Flyweight Champion John “Scrappy” Ramirez Made major statement on DAZN

LAS VEGAS (May 19, 2022) – Newly crowned North American Boxing Association (NABA) Super Flyweight Champion John “Scrappy” Ramirez (10-0, 8 KOs) made a major statement last Saturday night in the DAZN’s opening bout on the Zurdo Ramirez-Dominic Boesel card, presented by Golden Boy Promotions in Association with Zurdo Promotions, live from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.

Ramirez’ statement was, “I’m here to takeover!”

The 25-year-old Ramirez, fighting out of nearby East Los Angeles, patiently set up his Mexican opponent, Jan Salvatierra, until exploding midway through the opening round when he landed a powerful right hook that wobbled Salvatierra. Ramirez showed poise beyond his years, blinding Salvatierra with a jab and following with a straight right that landed on the button, which not only dropped his 8-1 foe, but knocked him right out of the ring in an instant Knockout of the Year candidate at 2:25 of round one.

“When you land a shot like that,” Ramirez explained, “you can feel everything. I knew it was a money shot. I was certain the fight was over right after the right hook because he pulled back. Going into the fight, I knew we were on whole different levels. He’s a good fighter who I wanted to fight on the great opportunity on DAZN.

“It feels good to win my first title belt, but I wasn’t surprised. All I needed to do was be patient, stay focused, and have faith. Winning the title was my main focus. I’m ready to fight anybody with a belt at 115 pounds. I’m her to takeover and prove I’m the best. I’m happy that people all over the world saw me fight, but it wasn’t overnight like some said. I’ve been working hard for the past five years.”

Ramirez is an LA inner-city sports legend whose journey started on the gridiron, not in a ring, when he was a key member of the Lincoln High football team, profiled in a 2015 documentary, “ESPN 60: Letterman.” The players were from a crime-ridden section of Hollywood riddled with drugs and guns. Ramirez was a 5’ 4”, 160-pound running back on a team that, starting in Pop Warner competition, advanced to Lincoln High, which hadn’t experienced any degree success in football. Lincoln High went on to become a 3-time league champion, highlighted by its semifinal playoff appearance in his senior year, which eventually led “Scrappy” to a roster spot on the Los Angeles Valley College’s football team.

“Scrappy” has been moved on the fast track by 3 Point Management (3 PM) having fought 10 times in less than 1 ½ years. And he wants to get back in the ring as soon as possible.

“I’m ready to go,” he concluded. “I’m looking to get all the world title belts and be part of some cool things.”

Banner night for 3 PM

Ramirez was one of four 3 PM stablemates to have their hands raised in victory Saturday night on the same card. Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (44-0, 30 KOs), no relations to “Scrappy” but his mentor and friend, outclassed Dominic Boesel from the opening bell, stopping him in round four of their WBA Light Heavyweight World Eliminator. “Zurdo” is the official mandatory challenger for WBA Super Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitry Bivol , recent winner against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

The other two 3 PM winners were light heavyweight Kareem Hackett (10-0, 5 KOs) and lightweight Carlos Nava (8-0, 5 KOs). Hackett won a 6-round unanimous decision over Joshue Obando, while Nava knocked out Yampier Hernandez in the sixth round.

Mayerlin Rivas will defend her WBA World Super-Bantamweight title against Isis Vargas Perez on Friday June 10 live worldwide on DAZN from Mexico, with the show now taking place at the Domo Alcalde in Guadalajara, in the latest installment of Matchroom and DAZN’s fight series in Mexico, in association with Canelo Promotions and Clase Y Talento.

Rivas’ clash with Perez is the second World title fight on the bill, with the night topped by WBA Super and Ring Magazine World Light-Flyweight champion Hiroto Kyoguchi defending his straps against Esteban Bermudez.

“Rocky Hernández is a good fighter but he’s in my way of becoming a World champion,” said Castaneda. “On June 10, I’m putting on a spectacular performance and sending a message to the 130lb division.”

“This fight will set the difference between being a prospect and showing the world I’m a reality,” said Hernandez. “I’m not losing in my house – this one is for my daughter.”

Diego Pacheco (14-0 11 KOs) continues to be a must-watch talent and the 21 year old ticks off another major milestone as he stretches his legs over the ten round distance for the first time against Raul Ortega (10-2 7 KOs).

“This is going to be a great night in Mexico, with another World title added and a very important fight in the 130lb division,” said Hearn. “It’s great to have Mayerlin back in action, she’s itching to get back out there and start hunting down the other titles, so she’ll be eager to impress against Rivas.

“This clash between Jorge and Rocky is going to be so explosive. Both men carry power that can end any fight in an instant, and that makes this a must-watch battle and an important one for the 130lb division.

“Our Mexico shows have delivered huge drama and excitement, and with a spicy main event and a great supporting cast of talented young fighters, the fans will be the winners again on June 10.”

A separate announcement on tickets will be made shortly.

KENDRICK BALL JR. VS ANGEL CAMACHO JR.

BOSTON, MA, May 18, 2022 – Fight announcement, Kendrick Ball Jr. vs Angel Camacho Jr.

Worcester’s own Kendrick Ball Jr. (18-1-2, 12 KOs), returns to his hometown on Friday, July 15th, 2022. He will face the undefeated Angel Camacho Jr. (16-0, 5 KOs) of Providence, RI, for the New England Super Middleweight Championship. The bout will headline Rivera Promotions Entertainment’s (RPE) “New England Future 10” boxing event at the Worcester Palladium.

This is the biggest local bout in the past several years and it’s a true New England Championship fight. You have two established fighters, one from Worcester, Massachusetts and the other from Providence, Rhode Island, that are willing to get in the ring to determine who the best in the region is. This fight is about representing their city and state. Three-time, 2-division World Champion, RPE Promoter Jose Antonio Rivera commented, “RPE is excited to have the two top Super Middleweights in New England fighting each other! This is what boxing is all about.”

Kendrick Ball Jr. has been able to stay active fighting five times since the Covid-19 shutdown. His most recent fight was a 5th round TKO victory in April 2022. He will be looking to keep his positive momentum going. This will be the sixth time that Ball enters the ring against an undefeated opponent and he is up for the challenge. Here’s what Kendrick Ball Jr. had to say about the fight, “I’ve been in this position before, it’s just another step for me to climb up the ladder and prove myself again to my fans and the world. I’m thankful for all of the support from Worcester. I’m glad to be back home fighting in front of my city. On July 15th, I’ll be ready for whatever comes my way.”

Angel Camacho Jr.’s last fight was at the Worcester Palladium in 2019. He is no stranger to lengthy layoffs as this will be his fourth time returning to the ring after a multiple year hiatus. Camacho, who is undefeated as a pro, has beat some of the biggest names in New England, including Richard Gingras, Paul Gonsalves, and the late Keith Kozlin. This is what Angel Camacho Jr. had to share about the fight, “I’m excited to be back fighting at the Worcester Palladium, I love my people out there. Life is crazy and I have a lot of responsibilities as a man so unfortunately it got in the way of my activity as a professional fighter, but my body is well oiled and fresh… I’ve always had nothing but love for the Ball family, I’ve rooted for Ken in and out of the ring, and he and his family are great people. Come July 15th this is going to be the biggest and toughest fight of Ken’s career. I know Ken will show up ready to go so expect a rough and tenacious war.”

Waymaker Management’s Founder, Artie DePinho stated, “When we signed Kendrick, he said he wanted to fight the top guys in New England to prove that he is the best. This is his opportunity to show everyone what I know he’s capable of doing. I have a lot of respect for Angel and have known him for over 15 years. He is undefeated for a reason and this is the type of challenge that Kendrick really wants. I’m looking forward to seeing the whole City of Worcester coming out and supporting Kendrick as he makes his statement.”

This matchup is a fight fans dream. RPE Matchmaker AJ Rivera said, “Kendrick has never asked for easy fights. He has taken on tough opposition fighting five undefeated guys, he’s no stranger to always trying to challenge and prove he belongs. Angel is a tough undefeated fighter who brings slick boxing skills to the ring. He’s fought some of New England’s best and won every fight. This fight is truly a New England treat.” You have two popular fighters who are daring to be great. The show will certainly be sold out and the atmosphere on fight night will be electric.

Please purchase tickets directly through Camp Get Right Boxing Gym located at 55 Millbrook Street in Worcester, MA. Or by calling Kendrick Ball Sr. at 508-868-6235. Tickets are priced at $80, $55, and $40.

The WassermanBoxing locomotive shows no sign of slowing, as more numbers aim to be smashed on FridayJune 17 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. The undercard has been announced, with more thrilling free-to-air boxing coming to screens next month, live on Channel 5 in association with William HillNuman and Infinitum.

It was an impressive debut for Wasserman Boxing on Channel 5, with over one million people tuning in to witness all the action from the Indigo at the O2, headlined by a classic British Middleweight Title clash and fight of the year contender between Linus Udofia and Denzel Bentley.

All eyes now turn to Liverpool and one of Britain’s most exciting Heavyweight prospects as Nathan Gorman takes on Czech champion Tomas Salek in what promises to be another epic night of live, free-to-air boxing.

On the undercard, there is something to get fight fans salivating, as it all goes down in a British Super Flyweight Title Eliminator between ‘The Chosen One’ Marcel Braithwaite (12-3) and Thomas Essomba (11-7-1, 4 KOs).

Braithwaite will have the opportunity to earn his ticket to a British Super Flyweight Title shot in front of his home support, as the local lad looks to steal the limelight in Liverpool. He will be full of confidence coming off the back of a win in his last outing, securing the WBC International Silver Super Flyweight Title and now setting his sights on another belt for the mantelpiece.

The party atmosphere could be quickly silenced by a very experienced Essomba, hungry to show that the tweaks made in and out of the ring will be enough to convert his dreams into reality. The former Commonwealth Flyweight Title holder will be looking to leave it all in the ring as he pushes for glory at 34-years-old.

Also on the card, Tom Aitchison (6-0, 1 KO) has wasted no time in his pursuit of activity, having had three fights in under a year, the St Helens man will be looking to claim a fourth victory on June 17 in Liverpool.

In a special international attraction, former Olympian and current IBF #3 Middleweight, Patrick Wojcicki (15-0-1, 6 KOs) from Germany will continue his case for a shot at Gennady Golvokin’s 154 lbs belt as he builds on his impressive fighting record.

The stacked card does not stop there, as former Team GB Commonwealth gold medallist Chloe Watson (2-0) looks to continue her strong start as a professional, fighting over 6 rounds in the Flyweight division. Paddy Lacey (2-0) will look to perform in front of his own people, as the ex-professional footballer from Liverpool looks to continue his undefeated streak at Middleweight.

Mason ‘Nutty’ Cartwright (17-3, 7 KOs) will be eager to prove he is one of the best Super Welterweights in the country when the Ellesmere Port man performs over 8 rounds. Heavyweight giant ‘Magic’ Matty Harris (2-0, 1 KO) will be stalking his opponent for another sensational knockout to go viral after coming off the back of a destructive win last time out.

Yet more fights on an unbelievable card, as ‘H-Money’ Harry Kinsella (1-0) looks to show the terrestrial television audience he is top dollar over 6 rounds in a Lightweight division bout. A homecoming for Merseyside’s Marcus Molloy (4-0, 1 KO), who will be looking to keep his ‘0’ as the 23-year-old continues to build on his reputation as a Super Featherweight star in the making.

Kalle Sauerland, Head Of Global Boxing a Wasserman said: “The first event with Channel 5 was a massive success, over one million viewers and a stacked card that delivered all the way through – in particular the absolutely breath-taking main event for the British title.

ITALIAN-CUBAN AMATEUR SENSATION YOEL ANGELONI SIGNS WITH DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT!

MELBOURNE, Australia (May 17, 2022) — Yoel Angeloni, one of the most sought-after amateur boxers in the world, has signed with DiBella Entertainment.  DBE will present Angeloni’s professional debut on the undercard of the George Kambosos – Devin Haney Undisputed Lightweight Championship super fight, scheduled for Saturday, June 4, at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.  Melbourne boasts one of the largest Italian communities outside of Italy.Angeloni will debut in a four-round welterweight bout against Ken Aitken (3-0, 1 KO), from Queensland, Australia, who has yet to see even one scorecard go against him.

Kambosos vs. Haney, along with Jason Moloney vs. Aston Palicte, Junior Fa vs. Lucas Browne, and Hemi Ahio vs. Joe Jones will be televised LIVE on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ Saturday, June 4, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.  Angeloni-Aitken and all other undercard contests will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+

Angeloni, 18, is literally an international sensation who boasts an impressive amateur boxing pedigree.  Born in Rome, Italy, to an Italian father (Alessandro Angeloni) and a Cuban mother (Olga Lidia Lara), Angeloni was three years old when he moved to southern Cuba with his mother, living in the city of Cienfuegos, one of the country’s chief ports.  Situated on Cuba’s largest natural bay and open to the sea, the bay was visited by Christopher Columbus in 1494.  So it should come as no surprise that this was where a six-year-old Angeloni first discovered the national sport of boxing.  Over the years, Angeloni developed his craft, earning a place on the prestigious Cuban National Youth Boxing team, where he fashioned a sterling 130-2 record.  When he turned 15, he returned to his native Italy, where he was quickly accepted by the Italian Boxing Federation.  Fighting under the Italian colors, Angeloni won all 10 of his fights, and captured gold medals at the 2019 Junior European Championships and the 2021 Emil Jechev Memorial International Youth Boxing Tournament.

“Yoel is a legitimate blue-chip prospect, which is one of the reasons I chose the Kambosos-Haney undercard to launch his professional career,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment.  “Despite campaigning almost exclusively as a junior, Yoel’s talent is extraordinary for his age, and he’s been heavily recruited throughout the industry.  I couldn’t pass on an Italian Cuban prodigy with his natural ability.  In addition to introducing Yoel to Melbourne’s prodigious Italian community, fighting June 4 at Marvel Stadium will allow him to realize his recurring dream of making his pro debut on a huge show, before his nineteenth birthday on June 11.  Who am I to deny destiny?  In my career, I’ve seen very few teenage fighters as gifted as Yoel.  Everyone at DiBella Entertainment is proud that Yoel chose us.”

“I am very happy to be signed with DiBella Entertainment.  They are giving me an opportunity to showcase my skills on ESPN+ for my pro debut and on one of the biggest boxing events of the year.  I am so excited to be making my professional debut in Melbourne which has a very large Italian population,” said Angeloni.  “I want to thank my advisor and manager, Alonzo Benezra, for believing in me from the moment we met and by turning my dreams into reality.  Winning the gold medal at the 2019 Junior European World Championship was a very proud moment for me, my parents, my family, and many of my supporters who have followed me during my amateur career.  I also want to thank the Italian amateur federation and the Cuban amateur federation.  But now it’s time to realize my dream of becoming a world champion.”

“I want to say, thank you, to Lou DiBella for giving us the opportunity to be part of this historic event in Australia, where the first undisputed lightweight champion of the four-belt era will be crowned,” said Alonzo Benezra, advisor and manager to Angeloni.  “Also, thank you to Top Rank and ESPN for this huge boxing platform that will allow Yoel Angeloni to showcase his skills and great talent.  Ever since I met Yoel, I knew he was a special young man that was very talented and marketable.  At the same time, it’s also been a real challenging experience, working day and night, to get him where he needed to be at such a young age, to start his journey toward becoming a world champion.  I also want to thank Kris Lopez, the new trainer of Angeloni, from Lightning’s Boxing Club in Oakland, California, for setting up this training camp for Yoel’s highly anticipated pro debut.”
