Josh Taylor stopped Apinun Khongsong in the opening round to defend the IBF/WBA Junior Welterweight titles at York Hall in London.

Taylor landed a perfect left to the ribs that put Khongsgong down for the count at 2:41,

Ionut Baluta stopped Davey Oliver Joyce in round three of a scheduled 10-round super bantamweight fight

In round two, Joyce was cut around the right eye. In round three, Baluta dropped Joyce with a hard left hook. Baluta was all over Joyce and the fight was stopped after Joyce are a hard flurry on the ropes at 1:49.

George Davey won a decision over Jeff Thomas in a for-round junior middleweight fight.

Ethan James remained undefeated by winning a four-round decision over Kris Pilkington in a super lightweight fight.

Francis Rozentals (5-0, 1 KO) stopped Pjotr Fllatov in round two of their scheduled six-round super middleweight fight.

Bohdan Myronets (2-0, 2 KOs) stopped Stefano Capone (1-3) in the 2nd round of their heavyweight bout.

Juris Zondovskis stopped (3-1, 2 KOs) Vadims Tihomirovs (2-15-1) in the 3rd round of their scheduled four-round light heavyweight bout.

Nestor Bravo won a 10-round unanimous decision over Jose Luis Gallegos in a super lightweight bout at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

In round nine, Bravo was deducted a point for low blows. In round 10, Bravo was deducted a point for holding.

Bravo outlanded Gallegos 165-137.

Pasillas stops Encarnacion in 6

Victor Pasillas stopped Ranfis Encarnacion in round six of their scheduled 10-round bout featuring undefeated featherweights.

Pasillas dominated the fight throughout and then put down Encarnacion in the 6th with a hard combination and the towel was thrown in at 2:29.

Pasillas, 125.2 lbs of Los Angeles is 16-0 with nine knockouts. Encarnacion, 125 lbs of San Cristobal, DR is 17-1.

Maidel Sando won an eight-round unanimous decision over Genc Pllana in a super middleweight bout.

In round five, Pllana started to swell under his right eye.

Erickson Lubin won a 12-round unanimous decision over Terrell Gausha in a super welterweight elimination bout at the Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino in Uncasville, CT.

After seemingly winning the first nine rounds with ease, Lubin was rocked and buckled by a right hand in the 10th.

Lubin of Orlando, Florida won by scores of 115-113, 116-112, 118-110 and is now 23-1. Gausha of Cleveland is 21-2-1.

“I definitely made a statement,” said Lubin, who is trained by Kevin Cunningham. “I beat one of the top guys in the division, and that’s always a statement. I feel like I beat one of the top 154 pounders and I’m going to keep doing that. I’m going to stay in the gym and keep getting better. I know I hurt him in the last round. I was trying to get him out of there, but still be cautious. He was game. He’s an Olympian with good experience, so I didn’t want to get too wild.

“I think Jermell Charlo is going to come out on top against Jeison Rosario. I’m ready for a rematch if he can take care of business like I did. I changed up a lot since the first fight. Nyambayar wins split decision over Breedy

Former world title challenger Tugstsogt Nyambayr won a 12-round split decision over Cobia Breedy in a featherweight contest

In round one, Nyambayar stopped Breedy with a right hand. In round two, Nyambayar dropped Breedy with a left hook.

Nyambayar outlanded Breedy 190-166.

Breedy had some moments in the fight, but it was Nyambayar that took the fight by scores of 114-112 and 114-113 while Breedy took a card 115-111.

Nyambayar of Mongolia is 12-1. Breedy is 15-1.

“It was a tough fight,” said the 28-year-old Nyambayar. “I have a lot of respect for Breedy. He’s a great boxer. I thought I won the fight and did well to get the knock downs early. Ennis stops Abreu in 6

Jaron Ennis remained undefeated with a 6th round stoppage over Juan Carlos Abreu in a scheduled 10-round welterweight.

In round five, Ennis dropped Abreu with a hard right uppercut

In round six, it was a counter left that put Abreu on his back. Moments later, Ennis landed a big left that sent Abrei across the ring. A follow-up left put Abreu down again and the fight was stopped at 1:06.

Ennis of Philadelphia is 26-0 with 24 knockouts. Abreu, who was three-pounds over the 147-pound limit falls to 23-6-1.

“I was in there having my fun, then my dad said to stop playing with him, and that it’s time to take him out, so that’s what I did,” said Ennis, who goes by the nickname “Boots”. “I know he’s fought some tough guys in the past. Former two-weight world champion Jose Pedraza won a 10-round unanimous decision over former U.S. Olympian Javier Molina in a junior welterweight at MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.

Molina suffered a cut under his left eye in round three from a punch.

Pedraza outlanded Molina 164-49.

Former world title challenger Egidijus Kaviauskas stopped Mikael Zewski in in round eight of their scheduled 10-round welterweight bout at the MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.

In round three, Kavaliauskas started to swell under his right eye.

In round eight, Kavaliauskas landed a huge right uppercut that hurt Zewski badly. Kavaliauskas jumped on Zewski and put him down with about 10 unanswered punches. Kavaliauskas came out in round eight and landed a booming right in the opening seconds that put Zewski down again, and the fight was stopped at seven seconds.

Zewski was ahead on two cards 67-65 and Kavaliauskas was ahead 67-65 on the other card at the time of the stoppage.

Kavaliauskas, 146.5 lbs of Lithuania is now 22-1-1 with 18 knockouts. Zewski, 147 lbs of Trois-Rivieries, CAN is 34-2.

In round nine, Marriaga was cut over his right eye.

Yordenis Ugas dominated Abel Ramos over 12-rounds, yet was only able to win a razor thin split decision over Abel Ramos to win the WBA Welterweight title at The Mictosoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

In round nine, Ramos started to bleed from his nose. Ugas was dominant with the jab by landing a career best 160 of them and wiping out Ramos in the punches landed category to the tune of 233-109, yet judges saw the fight just 115-113 twice for Ugas and somehow 117-111 for Ramos.

Leduan Barthelemy stopped Recky Dulay in round three of their scheduled six-round lightweight fight.

In round three, Barthlelemy landed a right hook to the body that put Dulay down. Seconds later it was the same punch that registered a 2nd knockdown. Yet a few seconds later, Barthelemy dropped Dulay for a 3rd time in the round, and the fight was stopped at 2:39.

Barthelemy, 136.6 lbs of Guantanamo, CUB is 16-1-1 with eight knockouts. Dulay, 137.6 lbs of the Philippines is 11-9.

Jamel Herring retained the WBO Junior Lightweight title when Jonathan Oquendo was disqualified for an intentional headbutt that caused a bad cut over Herring’s right eye. The fight headlined a card at the MGM Grand Conference in Las Vegas,

In round three, Herring dropped Oquendo with a perfect left uppercut. In round five, Herring was cut over the right eye from an intentional headbutt, for which Oquendo was deducted a point.

After round eight, the cut worsened and Herring was not able to see, and the fight was halted and Oquendo was disqualified.

Herring said, “It just got ugly. I wasn’t too satisfied with my performance, to be honest with you. In the beginning, everything was going real smooth, me boxing. I put him down with an uppercut. We knew he was going to come head-first. We had to time it. In the end, I wasn’t happy with how I was looking. I’m disappointed with the outcome. I’ve never been in that situation.
 
“I still want the Carl Frampton fight next by all means. November, December, whatever. I still want that fight next.”

Nelson stops Ware in 6

Steven Nelson stopped DeAndre Ware in round six of a scheduled 10-round super middleweight fight.

In round two, blood started dripping from about the left eye of Nelson. In round five, a worse cut opened up on the eyelid. Both cuts where caused by accidental headbutts.

In round six, Nelson hurt Ware with left hooks that wobbled Ware. Ware went back to the ropes with hard right hands and a big uppercut forced referee Jay Nady to stop the bout at 2:24.

Nelson, 167.6 lbs of Omaha, NE 17-0 with 14 knockouts. Ware, 168 lbs of Toledo, OH is 13-4-2.

Jesse Rodriguez remained undefeated by blowing out Janiel Rivera in scheduled six-round light flyweight bout.

Rodriguez dropped Rivera three times before the fight was stopped at 2:03.

Jared Anderson remained perfect by stopping Rodney Anderson in round four of a scheduled six-round heavyweight bout.

Anderson bloodied the nose of Hernandez in round four. Later in the round, Anderson landed a jab, and dropped Hernandez with a left uppercut and the fight was stopped at 2:22.

Anderson, 247.2 lbs of Toledo, OH is 6-0 with six knockouts. Hernandez, 255.2 lbs of Modesto, CA is 13-10-2.

Ruben Cervera scored a sensational 2nd round stoppage over Rennard Oliver in a scheduled six-round junior lightweight bout.

Seconds into the fight, an accidental headbutt caused a small abrasion over Cervera’s left eyebrow. In round two, Cervera landed a perfect right to the jaw that sent Oliver down, and the fight was stopped at 1:42.

Jose Ramirez won a 12-round majority decision over mandatory challenger Viktor Postol via majority decision to retain the WBC/WBO Junior Welterweight World Titles at The MGM Grand Conference Center in Las Vegas.

Postol had success early on as he worked behind his long jab. Ramirez pushed the action and hurt Postol. Ramirez continued to push the action and landed some hard power shots in a battle that was nip and tuck for much of the fight. Ramirez outlanded Postol 156 to 147, and won by scores of 116-112, 115-113 and 114-114.

Ramirez, 139.8 lbs of Avenal, CA is 26-0. Postol, 139.7 lbs of Ukraine is 31-3.

Said Ramirez, “I went in there a little too cold, you know? I impressed myself. I’m much stronger than most guys think. Barboza Decisions Luis

Arnold Barboza Jr. won a 10-round unanimous decision over Tony Luis in a junior welterweight bout.

In round six, Barboza was deducted a point. Other than that, it was all Barboza.

Elvis Rodriguez kept his perfect knockout streak in-tact as he stopped Cody Wilson in round three of their scheduled six-round welterweight bout.

In round one, Rodriguez dropped Wilson with a straight left to the chin. In round three, Rodriguez sized Wilson wit a jab and landed a booming left to the head that made Wilson plummet in the corner and the fight was stopped at 1:03.

Late-Replacement Vladimir Hernandez won a 10-round unanimous decision over Alfredo Angulo in a super middleweight fight.

Both guys stood toe-to-toe with each throwing over 1,000 punches, with Hernandez building up a big early lead and winning by 98-92 scores on all cards.

Angulo landed 351 of 1134 punches. Hernandez was 306 of 1003.

Martinez and Arcon Battle to Draw

Abraham Martinez and Luis Arcon battled to an eight-round split draw in a super lightweight bout.

In round three, Martinez landed a big left hook that put Arcon on his back.

In the final seconds of the fight, Arcon dropped Martinez with a left hook to the head.

Each fighter took a card 76-74 and a third card was even at 75-75.

Martinez landed 73 of 270 punches; Arcon was 69 of 276.

Gary Cully had to get off the deck to remain undefeated with an eight-round decision over Craig Woodruff in a junior welterweight bout.

In round five, Woodruff landed a perfect right that put Cully on his back. Other then that, Cully dominated the action and won by a 77-75 score.

Cully, 140 lbs of Naas, IRE is now 11-0. Woodruff, 139 lbs of Newport, WAL is 10-6.

Tim Tszyu made a statement by stopping former world champion Jeff Horn after the 8th round of a scheduled 10-round junior middleweight clash of popular Australian fighters at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, Queensland, Australia.

Tszyu was dominant as he imposed his physicality early in the fight.

In round three, Tszyu dropped Horn with a left hand to the head.

In round six, Tszyu landed two hard right that backed Horn up. Tszyu followed up with a left to the body that put Horn down to a knee. Tszyu continued to beat up Horn as he started landing more crushing body shots and hard rights to the head. Finally Horn’s corner pulled their man from any more punishment following the 8th round.

Issac Hardman stopped Jamie Weetch in the 1st round of their scheduled eight-round middleweight bout.

Hardman scored a vicious knockdown when he landed a perfect counter right to chin as Weetch was throwing a left hook. Weetch was hurt badly, but continued and ate a hard barrage of punches that was highlighted by two hard rights and lefts, and the fight was stopped as Weetch went down again as his corner threw in the towel at 2:20.

Wilson stops Woods in 2

Liam Wilson remained undefeated by stopping Jackson Woods in round two of a scheduled eight-round lightweight contest.

After getting rocked in the opening seconds of the fight, Wilson came back in the round, and put Woods down with a hard right. In round two, it was an inside left hand to the body that put Woods down, and the fight was stopped at 2:42.

Joel Camilleri won a eight-round unanimous decision over Adam Copland in a middleweight bout.

“The game plan was to use finesse and subtlety,” said Porter. “I went in there looking for the shot and ready to take the openings. I wanted to be aggressive, but not too aggressive, because we knew he would run. We worked on cutting off the ring and I think it all worked out tonight.

“For me it made sense to fight up on my toes. It’s a different type of rhythm and a lot of guys don’t know when I’m coming and going. I think it mixed things up for Formella tonight. We worked on fast jabs, powerful jabs, directing the jab and today he couldn’t tell which one was coming. I was popping his head back and of course also going to the body.”

“We had a lot of film on Formella,” said Porter. “I knew that his focus would be on his feet and when it wasn’t the feet, he would be covering up. I could tell his corner was telling him to punch with me or right after me, so he connected on me that way. I had to get on a different rhythm for him. He was able to play some chess and he did well. My dad always says that the mind controls everything. I think he had his mind made up that he was going to take everything and go 12 rounds. His body followed his mind tonight.”

“We definitely worked on throwing the overhand right for this fight,” said Porter. “We worked on our power a lot and in the beginning I wanted to land that overhand right. I was really keyed in on that. My dad said to stick to the speed and that would set up the power. I switched it up to straight rights to the body because that’s more of a speed punch.”

“I’m still here and I’m not going anywhere,” said Porter, who dropped a close decision to Spence in a unification bout last year, and defeated Garcia to capture the WBC title in 2018.

“There’s no telling what they’ll see from me in a rematch,” added Porter later. “I think both guys can also make adjustments. That’s what makes rematches so great, the fans have seen what both of you can do and they want to see who will make the right adjustments. I definitely think that I will be a little different against either guy.”

Brant Stops Kopylenko after 5!

Former middleweight belt-holder Rob Brant stopped Vitaliy Kopylenko after round five of their scheduled 10-round middleweight fight.

In round two, Kopylenko began to swell under his left eye. The eye got worse and was almost closed that forced the fight to be stopped after the 5th frame.

Mercado, 136.6 lbs of Pomona, CA won by scores of 60-54 twice and 59-55 and is now 8-0. Valdovinos, 137.2 lbs of Hanford, CA is 5-1-1.

Wendy Toussaint won a eight-round unanimous decision over Isaiah Jones in a middleweight fight.

Toussaint, 156.4 lbs of Huntington, NY won by scores of 80-72 and 79-73 twice, and is now 12-0. Jones, 157.2 lbs of Detroit, MI is 9-3.

Alexander Povetkin survived two knockdowns to comeback and stop Dillian Whyte to win the WBC Interim Heavyweight Title at Matchroom HQ in Essex, England.

In round four, Whyte dropped Povetkin with a left hook to the side of he head. Late in the round, Whyte sent Povetkin to the deck for a 2nd time with a left uppercut.

In round five, Povetkin landed a booming left uppercut on the jaw to sent Whyte crashing to the canvas, and the fight was stopped at 30 seconds.

Povetkin, 224 lbs of Russia is 36-2-1 with 25 knockouts. Whyte, 256.6 lbs of Brixton is 27-2.

On being knocked down twice: “I didn’t feel that I would finish the fight like this. I was pretty confident in the 4th round that, even though I went down twice, it was OK. It wasn’t too much damage.”

On the knockout punch: “I was watching his fights and taking into account that he was missing uppercuts from the left and from the right. During my training, I was training on putting combinations around those shots.” 

On a rematch clause: “First of all, my future plans don’t depend on me, it’s more a question for my promoter and for Eddie Hearn. So we will see what they decide. At the same time, I want to thank Andrei Ryabinski and Eddie Hearn for everything they do for me.” 

On everyone who doubted him: “I don’t have anything to respond to those people. I just want to box more. I want to thank all of the fans who believe in me.”

Whether this was the best punch of his career: “Yes, definitely.”

Dillian Whyte

Speaking to Eddie Hearn: “Can we get the rematch in December? I’m good, I’m good. It’s just one of those things where it just landed didn’t it. I was bossing it. It is what it is. Rematch. It’s cool, it’s all good. That’s what boxing is about. Cheers Eddie.”

Taylor Decisions Persoon Again; Retains Undisputed Lightweight Title

In a rematch of a terrific fight from last June 1st, Katie Taylor made it two in a row over Delfine Persoon to retain the Undisputed Lightweight Title.

In round two, Persoon’s right eye began to swell. It was a grueling fight that saw Taylor win by scores of 98-93 and 96-94 twice.

Interesting enough it was Persoon who landed 107 of 735 punches while Taylor was 95 of 308.

Taylor, 134.3 lbs of Ireland is 16-0. Persoon, 132.7 lbs of Belgium is 44-3.

Katie Taylor 

On if she thought she did enough to win: “I think so. I knew it was going to be a tough battle going into this fight. It’s never going to be an easy fight against Delfine. I knew I had to dig deep at some stage during the fight but I thought I boxed a lot better than last time. I still could’ve boxed a bit more.”

On facing a relentless opponent like Delfine Persoon: It’s always going to be tough. You can’t relax at all in there against someone like that. She’s going to come and come and come. Even though I am hitting her with clean shots, she is just on the attack all the time. That’s why it is such a tough fight against someone like Delfine. But congratulations on two fantastic fights. They were an amazing two fights for women’s boxing.” 

On if she silenced the critics of the first fight’s decision: “yeah, I think it was a lot more convincing tonight even though it was a tough fight. But as I said, it’s always going to be a tough fight against someone like that and you’re going to have to dig deep and show a lot of heart at some stage during the fight. But I think I did that well, I boxed well.”  

On a trilogy: “C’mon, give me a break!”

Delfine Persoon

On accepting the result: “Yes, this time I respect the result. For me this time, the weight was a little too much. I didn’t feel like I had enough power to hurt her this time. I tried to get my weight up but I could not hurt her this time. And if you don’t hurt her, it’s technical and she’s good at moving around. You have to hurt her otherwise she gets away. The power was not enough. I’ve got no problem with this decision and my respect she deserves. 

On a trilogy: “In the second round, I think I broke my nose so it was eight rounds boxing with my nose broken. First I must repair my nose and then I think super featherweight is better for me than lightweight. My trainer pushes me to eat, eat, eat but when you train a lot, it’s too much to gain the weight. My respect to her. She deserved to win today.

Chris Kongo remained undefeated with a 9th round stoppage over Luther Clay in a welterweight bout.

Kongo hurt Clay in round five, and then dropped him with a left hook in the 9th. Clay’s corner stopped the bout at 2:44.

Kongo, 145.5 lbs of Bermondsey is now 12-0 with seven knockouts. Clay, 145.8 lbs of Bracknell is 13-2.

“First of all I want to thank god for this victory,” said Kongo afterwards. “It has been 16 months since I last boxed. I’ve waited for the opportunity and here I am. There was no way I was leaving that ring without this belt around my waist. I was willing to die in there, I’m telling you. There was no way I was leaving that ring without the belt. 

“100%. I knew I had the speed, I had the power, I just had to go in there and pace myself. Like I said, it has been 16 months since I last got in the ring so it felt kind of new to me. In the first rounds I was trying to feel him out but then when it got into the middle rounds I hurt him. I knew before the fight ended I was going to get him out of there and that’s what I did. 

“We’e been working on a lot of things. Power was one of the attributes I have been working closely on. I’ve been working closely with my strength and conditioning coaches Nathan and Tyrone, but also when we’re in the boxing gym it is all boxing based with Jim. I want to defend the belt next. Look what I did there with 16 months out of the ring. Imagine when I’m fighting regularly what I’m going to do to these guys. I have full confidence in myself. I believe that I can be one of the best contenders in the world at Welterweight. I believe that I am the best Welterweight in the division in the UK.”

Alen Babic stopped Shawndell Wintera in round two of a scheduled eight-round heavyweight bout.

In round one, Babic dropped Winters with a left hook to the jaw. In round two, Babic kept up the onslaught by dropping Winters with a right that was follwed by a left hook that sent Winters don in the corner, and the fight was stopped at 2:20.

Babic, 205 lbs of Croatia is now 4-0 with all wins coming early. Winters, 194 lbs is 13-3.

“That was ‘The Savage’, be afraid of him,” said Babic afterwards. “That’s my alter-ego, when I go into that mental state I can do damage. I will fight these giants. Give me the biggest one you have. I knew it in the locker room. I know when I land. Every coach told me I have bombs in my hands. It is natural. This is my approach. One or two rounds. My fights won’t go past three rounds. I am different. I have a guy in mind, he’s from my country. Filip Hrgovic! He was calling me out. I don’t like him. I want to fight him.

“I’m a different breed of fighter. Old school, I don’t care about touching. I go in there and I finish people. I finished him in the second round. Parker took five rounds, I don’t need that. They say I’m small. I’m bigger than Jack Dempsey, and Jack Dempsey was a killer! Nobody can box like me. I had almost 60 knockouts in the amateurs, that’s rare. I go all in. I’m bringing something new. I’m going to go in there and I’m going to get it finished as quickly as I can.

“I just want people to love me. I don’t care about money. I was working as a doorman for nothing, for scraps. I’ve broken my hands thousands of times. Fighting on the big stage means everything to me. Hrgovic insulted me, he really insulted me. I’ll never forget that. That’s a fight I definitely want in the future and I will win.”

Zak Chelli and Jack Cullen fought to a 10-round split draw in a super middleweight fight.

In round four, Chelli had swelling under her left eye.

In round seven. Cullen was cut under the left eye.

Chelli won a card 97-93; Cullen took a card 96-95 and a 3rd judge saw the fight even at 95-95.

Cullen, 164.6 lbs of Little Lever is 18-2-1. Chelli, 164.8 lbs of Fulham is 7-1-1.

“I’m disappointed with two of the judges,” said Chelli afterwards. “The first judge said it was 97-93, that was fair, and that’s how the fight should have gone. I’m very disappointed. It was my first fight after 11 months, so I’m happy with my performance. There was a little bit of ring rust at the start but I dominated the last half of the fight and I believe I won it.

“I’m very disappointed with the draw. I definitely deserved the win. I put all of it into it but we move on. I’m 22, as I always say. Hopefully I’ll get a Title fight in my next fight. I’m not going to lie, with 11 months out of the ring I felt the ring rust at the start, but I worked through it and I ripped him to the body, got him to the head, cut him and made him bleed.

“At least the fans enjoyed the fight, I hope they did. He took the punches, he did well. I rate him for his durability but I still believe I beat him. My dad knows the truth, he knows I won that fight. I’m not going to lose hope. I’m going to keep going and train hard. I look forward to the next fight. Hopefully it won’t be another 11 month wait. There’s a lot more to come from me.”

Axel Aragon won 10-round unanimous decision over Saul Juarez in a light flyweight bout at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

Aragon won by scores of 98-92 and 100-90 twice, and is now 14-3-1. Juarez is 25-12-2.

Henry Lebron remained undefeated by winning an right-round unanimous decision over Luis Porozo in a junior lightweight bout.

In round two, Lebron was cut on his forehead.

In round five, Perozo was docked a point for punching to the back of the head.

Lebron, 129 lbs of Puerto Rico won by scores of 79-72, 80-71 twice and is now 13-0. Porozo, 128 lbs of Ecuador is 15-4.

David Benavidez stopped Alexis Angulo after eight-rounds of their 12-round super middleweight bout at The Mohegan Sun Hotel and Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut

Benevidez dominated Angulo and continued to hurt him with power shots until the fight was stopped following the 10th round.

The bout was to be contested for Benavdiez WBC Super Middleweight title, but Benevidez checked in 2 3/4 pounds over the 168-pound weight-limit.

Benevidez of Seattle via Phoenix is now 23-0 with 20 knockouts. Angulo, 167 1/2 lbs of Colombia is 26-2.

David Benavidez: “I felt good, man. I rate myself a solid eight. I could have done some stuff better, but overall it was a great performance. I didn’t want to go too fast, leave myself exposed for some big shots. He’s a heavy puncher. But like I said, I like to do the stuff that nobody has ever done. Nobody has ever stopped him and I’m pretty sure nobody is ever going to make him look like that again. I demolished him from round one to round 11. But hats off to him and his team. Tough guy and they’re all gentleman, all-around.

“Like I said, I was going 15 rounds in camp. Everything was going perfect. I was so disappointed and embarrassed at myself. Everything everyone said about me is true. I should be a professional and come in on weight. But this time I couldn’t do it. It’s my first time not making weight in eight years of me being professional.

“I’ve got to go back to the drawing board. The diet has to be way stricter than it is, I’m a big guy. Hopefully I get another chance to fight for the WBC title again. I’m not going to ask for another shot right away. If they want to give it to me, good. If not, I don’t mind going to the back of the line and starting my way back up from the bottom.

“I want to get all these fights before I go up. I have to be even more dedicated than I already was. I felt like with training, as long as I didn’t miss any training session, running sessions, strength and conditioning, that I would be good. But the diet has to be way stricter. It was already good but something got messed up and, I don’t know, I couldn’t get those last pounds off.

You know, if they thought I had a discipline problem, it would have shown in the ring. Did I look tired, fatigued? Just because I missed weight one time doesn’t mean I’m not disciplined. But they’re entitled to say whatever they want because it’s true. I didn’t make weight. It’s up to me to go back to the drawing board and come back better next time.

“I really have to talk to my promoter to see what’s next. I don’t mind fighting anybody. I’ll fight anybody to get back to the spot I was. You could see by this performance tonight, I could put on a great performance against anybody. And people will pay to see that. So I have to talk to my promoters and I’m probably going to go right back into training camp to make sure I don’t miss weight.

“My baby boy comes in two weeks so I can’t wait to go be with my girlfriend and talk to my boy in my girlfriend’s stomach. In two weeks I’m going to be a father.” 

Romero Decisions Marinez to win Interim Lightweight Title

Rolando Romero won the WBA Interim Lightweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Jackson Marinez in a battle of undefeated fighters.

Romero was loading up for power shots all night, and it was Marinez who seemed to be landing more consistency all night.

In round nine, Romero was cut over his left eye from a right hand from Marinez.

Marinez oulanded Romero 103-86.

Romero, 134 3/4 lbs of Las Vegas won by scores of 118-110, 116-112 and 115-113 to raise his mark to 12-0. Marinez, 135 lbs of the Domincan Republic is 19-1.

Travis Kauffman: “I tore my left labrum getting ready for the [Luis] Ortiz fight. Like a dummy I waited like five months to have surgery on it after the Ortiz fight. So I started feeling better and was going to do a tune-up fight in March, but then COVID happened. This opportunity came up and I didn’t want to pass it up and I felt good. In the first round I hurt it. I felt it, but then it went away and I thought maybe it’s just my mind and it went away. Then in the fifth round I heard it and that was it. It was torn again.

Livinha Souza won a unanimous decision over Ashley Yoder in a strawweight fight.

Chris Daukaus stopped Parker Porter in the 1st round of their heavyweight bout.

Daukaus dropped Porter in the middle of the round. Porter was able to get up, but he ate a hard right hand and vicious kick as he dropped to the canvas. One ground punch later, referee Herb Dean stopped the bout at 4:28.

Daukaus, 241 lbs of Philadelphia is 9-3. Porter, 264.5 lbs of West Hartford, CT is 10-6.

Kai Kamaka won a unanimous decision over Tony Kelley in a featherweight fight.

In round six, Frampton dropped Traynor with a hard left to the body. In round seven, He landed another left to the body, and Traynor waved No-Mas and the fight was over.

Frampton, 134.4 lbs of Belfast, Ireland will now fight Jamel Herring (should Herring be successful on September 5th against Jonathan Oquend) with a record of 28-2 with 16 knockouts. Traynor, 134 1/4 lbs of Scotland is 16-4.

Said Frampton, “I’m happy to get the win, obviously. Far from my best, but I suppose people talk about rounds. I don’t think it’s going to harm me doing the rounds. If I had the chance to take him out in the first round, I would’ve done that.

“It was a better opponent for Herring than the original opponent because I think he was about my height, maybe even a little bit shorter. Darren isn’t a southpaw, but the dimensions are similar. I know I need to be a lot better for Herring. It’s good to get the rounds done. My hands are fine. No issues there. Onward and upward.”

Conlan stops Takoucht in 10th

Michael Conlan remained undefeated by stopping former world title challenger Sofiane Takoucht in the 10th and final round of their featherweight bout.

In round four, Conlan was deducted a point for a low blow. In round five, he was deducted another point for a low blow.

In round 10, Conlan landed a hard combination that hurt Takoucht. Conlan drove him to the ropes and the fight was stopped.

Conlan, 126.25 lbs of Belfast is 14-0 with eight knockouts. Takoucht, 126.6 lbs of France is 35-5.

Sharp Decisions Ofori

Archie Sharp barley remained undefeated by winning a decision over Jeff Ofori in a lightweight bout.

Ofori out-landed Sharp 124-112.

Sharp, 133 lbs of Wailing win by a 96-95 score and is now 19-0. Ofori, 131.1 lbs of London is 10-3-1.

Troy Williamson won a hard-fought 10-round unanimous decision over Harry Scarf in a junior middleweight bout.

Williams, 152.8 lbs won by scores of 97-94, 96-94 and 96-95 and is now 15-0-1. Scarf, 153.3 lbs is 8-2.

Paddy Donovan destroyed an overmatched Des Newton in the 1st round of their scheduled six-round welterweight bout

Donovan dropped Newton in the first 30 seconds with a left hand. Donovan finished thing with two massive body shots, with the latter being a left right to the gut that put Newton down and in a lot of pain and the fight was stopped.

Donovan, 146.5 lbs is 4-0 with three knockouts. Newton, 149.3 lbs is 8-16.

Ricardo Espinoza won a 10-round unanimous decision over Brandon Valdes in a super bantamweight contest at Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.

Espinoza, 122 lbs won by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 99-91 and is now 25-3. Valdes, 121 3/4 lbs is 13-1.

Felix Cash remained undefeated by stopping former world title challenger Jason Welborn in round five of a scheduled 12-round middleweight bout in Essex, England

In round five, Cash dropped Welborn with a right to the head. About 45 seconds later, Cash ended things when he landed another right to the head that put Welborn down again, and the fight was stopped at 2:48.

Cash, 160 lbs of Wokingham is 13-0 with nine knockouts. Welborn, 159 lbs of Tividale is 24-9.

“It was a good performance,” said Cash. “It took me a round or a round and a half to get my distance on him and see where he was at and see his reactions. I went to work on him. It was a decent enough performance. He wanted me to stand there and start trading with him, but then you’re giving him a chance aren’t you. I took him on the jab, broke him down, down to the body and up to the head.

“I broke him down nice and slowly. Round by round he was getting weaker and getting tired. I knew it was just a matter of time before I got him out of there. He’s a tough lad. There was no point in rushing it and trying to get him out of there early. What a stage to be on. It was unbelievable. The week has been unbelievable. I’ve really enjoyed it. Overall it was a good week. I’m 27 and I’m in the prime of my life. I’m ready for the step ups now. The ring walk was something else! Topping the bill was a bit of history for me.”

Barrett Stops Donovan in 8!

Zelfa Barrett stopped previously undefeated Eric Donovan in round eight of their scheduled 10-round super featherweight bout.

In round seven, Barrett dropped Donovan with a huge left hook to the chin.. Later in the round, Barrett dropped Donovan again after absorbing a hard left-right-left combination. In round eight, Barrett landed another booming left hook hat put Donovan on his back, and the fight was stopped at 1:35.

Barrett, 129.9 lbs of Manchester is now 24-1 with 15 knockouts. Donovan, 129.9 lbs of Altay is 12-1.

“He was catching me with some big shots,” said Barrett. “I was just trying to get my rhythm at first. He was pinging me and catching me with some good quality shots and then I could hear my Uncle Pat say, ‘change up the game plan and put it on him now’. Block, throw and look where the openings are. I pulled it out of the bag. This is what champions do, they find something and pull it out of the bag.

“I had to find it in the bag because he was hitting me with some good shots and I thought, ‘you know what, I’m not letting this guy beat me’. It was just war mode. I timed it perfectly and I couldn’t have asked for anything else. I caught him. Credit to Eric Donovan. I’ve just defeated an undefeated fighter. As soon as I put him down I thought, ‘that’s it, I’m getting you out of here’. He’s a good fighter but I’m going to pull myself together, go back to the drawing board and do what I’ve got to do.

“I knew I was going to catch him, it was just a matter of time. I didn’t want it to be round nine because that would have been too late. I done what I had to do. In myself as a fighter I’m a bit disappointed with my performance. He was catching me a lot but I done what I had to do. I’ve just shown character. I’ve shown I’m a fighter.”

Rachel Ball won a eight-round decision over previously undefeated Shannon Courtnay in a super bantamweight bout.

Ball dropped Courtney with a left hook to the chin in the opening round.

Ball had some swelling under her left eye in round seven, but she was able to hold on for the victory by a 77-75 score.

Ball, 123.8 lbs of Aldridge is 6-1. Courtenay, 126.9 lbs of Watford is 5-1.

“I’m just so happy,” an emotional Ball told Sky Sports. “This means everything to me. It was a closer fight than I would have wanted it to be, but I got the win and I want to move on to big things. I want Eddie to sign me up and put me in front of whoever. I want to be at the top and I want to be at the World Title level and get a World Title. That’s where I want to be more than anything.

“To be honest, when I was in the corner and I threw the shot, she dazed me a bit so I didn’t know what had hit her. I thought, ‘fantastic, this fight isn’t going to last’. She does hit hard. There is a reason why she has been knocking these girls out. I’m happy I got through the fight.

“I’m pleased with myself. I knew I landed the shots because I can feel it in my knuckles. I was just glad to get through it. I don’t think I used all of my technical ability to be honest, but it’s all progress isn’t it. I’ve just got to get back to the gym and progress even further now.”

Kieron Conway won a 10-round unanimus decision over Navid Mansouri in a super welterweight bout.

Conway had Mansouri hurt several times during the bout, and was close to getting the stoppage in round seven.

Conway, 153.9 lbs of Northampton won by scores of 99-92 and 98-92 twice and is now 15-1-1. Mansouri, 153.4 lbs of Ritherham is 20-4-2.

“I loved it,” Conway told Matchroom Boxing afterwards. “Apart from having no crowd, I think the whole setup is how all boxing shows should be. The week has been really nice. It’s been really good to be around. Everything just ran so smoothly. Out there it’s unbelievable. Even without thousands of fans, it’s wicked out there. I knew that he would come out fast and I knew that after a few rounds my size and my strength would come out on top. I’m a big lad now. I’m refuelled and everything. I’m big for the weight. It drains people.

“I planned to have a slower first few rounds. The whole fight went exactly how I’d planned, except it went ten rounds. He did really well to get through it to be fair. I was landing a lot of shots with a lot of spite behind them. It was good. I didn’t expect the flicky jab, I expected him to come for me a bit more and really try and stick it on me a bit more. After a few rounds I knew he’d starting messing, trying to smother me because I am stronger than I look.

“As soon as people realise I’m not going anywhere, they start holding. He’s highly-rated and he’s had a few title fights. He had the English title for a long time. Hopefully it pushed me a littler more up there. For my style, I think my size really helps. Over the years a lot of people have said I’m behind them, and then all of a sudden they’re behind me. I’m 24-years-old. Whether it’s now or later, I’m coming.”

John Docherty remained undefeated by stopping Anthony Fox in round seven of a scheduled eight-round super middleweight bout.

In round three, Docherty dropped Fox with a short right hook.

In round seven, Docherty hurt Fox badly with a hard three punch combination. Docherty followed that up with a flurry if punches and referee Howard Foster rescued Fox from further damage at 1:32.

Docherty, 1669.9 lbs of Montrose is 9-0 with seven knockouts. Fox, 166.4 lbs of Westbury is 8-13-4.

“I’m over the moon to have forced the stoppage,” said Docherty afterwards. “I started off a bit slow and I was throwing up my chin in the air, but I got there in the end. I felt him tiring in there in the third and fourth rounds with my body shots, and his power started to go. He was a lot stronger than I thought, and a lot more heavy-handed, but I got the job done.

“I thought he was going to come at me and have a go as he did in his last fight. I think he felt the power quite early on and then he was on the back foot. He was a lot better than I expected. I want titles now. The journeymen, I’m passed them already and my team knows that. Any title next. A British Title Eliminator or a Intercontinental Title, anything. I’d probably give myself an eight out of ten tonight.”

Maxi Hughes won a 10-round unanimous decision over Former world title challenger Jono Carroll in a lightweight bout in Yorkshire, England.

Hughes, 136 1/4 lbs won by scores of 96-95 twice and 97-93 to go to is 21-5-2.Carroll, 137 3/4 lbs is now 18-2-1

Sean McComb won a 10-round unanimous decision over Siar Ozgul in a super lightweight bout.

In round six, McComb started to bleed from the nose and over his right eye.

McComb, 139 1/4 lbs of Belfast won by scores of 99-92 and 97-93 twice and is now 11-0. Ozgul, 140 1/4 lbs is 15-5.

Shair Iqbel won a eight-round unanimous decision over Maredudd Thomas in a welterweight bout.

Iqbel, 147 lbs of Bolton won by scores of 78-75, 78-76 and 78-74 and is now 8-0. Thomas 146 3/4 lbs is 11-1.

Pierce O’Leary stopped Jacob Quinn in round four of their scheduled six-round junior welterweight bout.

O’Leary ended things with a hard left hook that sent Quinn to his knees. The bout was stopped upon Quinn getting to his feet at 24 seconds.

O’Leary, 142 1/4 lbs of Dublin, IRE is 5-0 with two knockouts. Quinn, 141 3/4 lbs is 4-1.

Craig McIntyre stopped Ishmael Ellis in round five of their scheduled eight-round super lightweight bout

In round four, Mcintyre dropped Ellis with a body shot.

In round five, Mcintyre continued to land hard right hands, and the fight was stopped at 2:49.

Mcintyre, 143 1/2 lbs is 12-0-1 with five knockouts. Ellis, 141 3/4 lbs is 11-3.

Jamal James won the WBA Interim Welterweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Thomas Dulorme at The Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

In round two, James started to bleed under his nose.

James was dominant as he boxed well from the outside and was efficient with solid right hands throughout. Dulorme tried and had moments but they were too few and too far between as he was not able to get on the inside enough to discourage James.

James landed 204 of 772 punches. Dulorme was 115 of 771.

James, 145.8 lbs of Minneapolis, MN won by scores of and is now 27-1. Dulorme, 146.2 lbs of Carolina, PR is 25-4-1.

“I’ve been working so long for a title shot,” said James. “So being able to get this opportunity and then actually following through and winning, it just meant the world to me. It’s been a crazy journey, with this with COVID-19, and then the George Floyd incident and starting camps and then stopping and so forth. “My grandmother ended up passing away when I was in camp for this fight. So it was a lot of mixed emotions for me. It just feels good to be able to bring this back home for my city. Now we’ll see how much farther I can go.”

“I landed a good shot on him in the second round, but I couldn’t land it again,” said Dulorme. “I couldn’t get inside on him the way that I wanted to after that round, and that made it a tough fight.”

“Dulorme brought the heat tonight,” said James. “I thought I was going to be able to move around a little bit more but he caught me with a couple of nice shots. He caught me with a good shot on the nose and it started leaking pretty bad. He’s a strong fighter, so I just had to be careful not to get hit too flush with anything. Luckily, I’m able to take a hard shot. “I knew that he kind of gets tired in the later rounds from the fights that we watched. So, I was really just trying to let him throw, stop the shots, then maybe catch him with something in between his shots. I kind of wanted to rope a dope him a little bit. But he was in shape. He was pushing in those later rounds.”

“Obviously, I would like to get a shot at Manny Pacquiao, he’s got the WBA super title,” said James. “But I know he’s such a big name, so it really doesn’t matter. I want any of the big name welterweights, we can really put on a good show.”

Morrell Decisions Allen to Win Interim Title

In an entertaining scrap, young prospect David Morrell Jr. won the WBA Interim Super Middleweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Lennox Allen.

The bout saw both guys land solid shots, with the difference being Morrell’s superior punch output and landing more and the better punches.

In round five, Allen was cut over his right eye from an accidental clash of heads. Morell was very consistent with Allen trying until the end.

Allen landed 207 of 631 punches. Allen was 90 of 522.

Morrell, 164.6 lbs of Minneapolis, MN won by scores of 120-108, 119-109 and 118-110 and is now 3-0. Allen, 166.8 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 22-1-1.

Omar Juarez remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Willie Shaw in a super lightweight bout.

Juarez outlanded Shaw 61-38.

Juarez, 140.6 lbs of Brownsville, TX won by scores of 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56 and is now 8-0. Shaw, 140.8 lbs of Oakland, CA is 12-2.

Luke Santamaria scored an upsetting by taking a 10-round unanimous decision over Mykal Fox in a welterweight bout.

In round one, Santamaria put Fox on the canvas with a left hook in the corner. The two took turns trading on the inside, with both having success throughout. They were separated by one punch as Santamaria outlanded Fox 171-170.

Santamaria, 145.8 lbs of Garden Grove, CA won by scores of 99-90, 97-92 and 96-93 to go to 11-1-1. Fox, 145.8 lbs of Upper Marlboro, MD is 22-2.

Vito Mielnicki Jr. stopped Chris Rollins in round two of a scheduled six-round welterweight fight.

Mielnicki outclassed Rollins, and in round two, Mielnick landed a right hand that buckled Rollins. Mielnicki followed up with a hard combination and the fight was stopped before any further damage could be inflicted at 2:19.

Mielnicki, 147.8 lbs of Roseland, NJ is 6-0 with four knockouts. Rollins, 147.4 lbs of Charlottesville, VA is 3-2.

Michael Coffie remained undefeated with a 5th round stoppage over Luis Pena in a scheduled six-round heavyweight bout featuring undefeated fighters.

In round three, Coffie scored a knockdown when he landed a left hook to the top of the head.

In round five, Coffie dropped Pena with two booming left hooks to the head. The fight ended with Coffie landing another flush left and the fight was stopped at 1:35.

Coffie, 279 lbs of Bronx, NY is 10-0 with seven knockouts. Pena, 232 lbs of Ventura, CA is 6-1.

Terri Harper and Natasha Jonas battled to a 10-round split draw in a terrific action fight for Harper’s WBC Super Featherweight title fight at Matchroom HQ in Essex, England.

In round two Jonas was cut over her right eye. The two battled at close quarters with each taking turns seizing the upperhand. Harper came forward, but Jonas landed the more telling blows including rocking Harper on at least two different occasions. The two battled down the stretch and gave it their all in the ring. In the end, both Harper and Jonas won a card via 96-94 scores, and a 3rd card was 95-95.

Harper, 129.3 lbs of Denaby is now 10-0-1. Jonas, 129.6 lbs of Liverpool is 9-1-1.

Fowler stops Adam Harper in 7

Anthony Fowler stopped previously Adam Harper in round seven of a scheduled 10-round junior middleweight bout.

In round two, Harper was deducted a point for low blows. He was also cut under his left eye in the round. In round four, Fowler dropped Harper with a booming right to the chin.

In round six, Fowler was cut above his right eye. That did not deter Fowler as he came out in the following round and landed a hard 1-2 combination that froze Harper. A follow up flurry forced referee Ian-John Lewis to stop the bout at 1:34.

Fowler, 155.7 lbs of Liverpool is 13-1 with 10 knockouts. Harper, 156.4 lbs of Tewkesbury is 9-1-1.

IN EARLY ACTION

Hopey Price won a decision over Jonny Phillips in a six-round featherweight fight.

Price, 126.9 lbs of Leeds won by a 60-54 tally and is now 3-0. Phillips, 128.8 lbs of Sandhurst is 5-5.

Chris Billam-Smith stopped previously undefeated Nathan Thorley in round two of a scheduled 12-round cruiserweight bout.

In round one, Billiam-Smith sent Thorley to the canvas, after absorbing three lefts to the head. In round two, a barrage of punches that was concluded by two huge rights put Thorley on the deck for a 2nd time. Minutes later, Billam-Smith landed a booming right that sent Thorley to deck again. Thorley got to his feet, but the fight was stopped at 2:05.

Billam-Smith, 199.9 lbs of Bournsmouth is 11-1 with 10 knockouts. Thorley, 199.9 lbs of Cardiff, WAL is 14-1.

Angelo Leo won the vacant WBO Super Bantamweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Tramaine Williams at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Williams got off to a good start as he was crisp with his counter left hook. He controlled the action for the first three rounds. Leo started to come forward in the middle rounds as he effectively worked the body.

That tactic slowed down the quick Williams as Leo continued to work on the inside and pound away at the body of Williams with left hooks. Leo occasionally came upstairs, but by the championship rounds, Williams output had slowed to pedestrian status.

Leo outlanded Williams 248-196 including 102 to seven to the body.

Leo of Albuquerque, NM won by scores of 118-110 and 117-111 twice and is now 20-0. Williams of New Haven, Connecticut is 19-1.

“It feels good. It still hasn’t sunk in yet, it just feels surreal. The first few rounds I was just feeling him out, getting his timing, getting the feel of him. I felt him kind of loosening up and breaking down, and that’s when I started putting the pressure on him a little more.

“That was the key factor in this fight, the body work and the pressure. I’m pretty sure Albuquerque is celebrating tonight. I think they have four world champions, because you can’t exclude Holly Holm. You have Johnny [Tapia], Danny [Romero], Holly and now me. There’s four champions in that city and I think I’ve made history there.

“At first, the first couple hours after the opponent change I was a little disappointed. But then I was like, ‘Hey this is what I came here to do.’ I came here to win a world title and that’s exactly what I did. When I set my mind to it, I do it.”

Raeese Aleem stopped Marcus Bates in round 10 of their scheduled 12-round super bantamweight rematch.

Aleem dominated the fight as he punished Bates to the body and began working his way upstairs. In round 10, Bates was complaining of an injured right hand. Later in the round, Aleem landed two crushing lefts as Bates turned away and referee Gary Rosato stopped the bout at 2:18.

Aleem, 121 1/4 lbs of Las Vegas is 17-0 with 11 knockouts. Bates, 121 1/4 lbs of Washington, DC is 11-2-1.

“It did help me facing Bates again only because I knew some of his tendencies, but that was still a while ago. He’s a top fighter so he could have come at me a number of different ways. I was just prepared.

“I didn’t know his hand was hurt. I thought he was juts shaking it just to try to get me to look at it and distract me. I didn’t worry about it.

“I would love to fight either the winner of the main event or any current world champion – Akhmadaliev has two of the belts. Brandon Figueroa, Rey Vargas, or the winner of this one. It doesn’t really matter who but I want the strap.”

Joe George scored a vicious 9th round stoppage over Marcos Escudero in a scheduled 10-round light heavyweight bout.

Escudero seemed to be winning the fight as he was out throwing and out-landing George, much like their first fight that took place in November.

In the final seconds of round nine, George landed a vicious uppercut that sent Escudero crashing to the canvas, and the fight was stopped at 3:00.

George, 174 1/4 lbs of Houston is now 11-0 with seven knockouts. Escudero, 173 1/2 lbs of West Palm Beach, FL is 10-2.

“I was setting him up with the jab to the body, I had him leaning over a little. I was shooting the right uppercut, some landed and some didn’t. I wanted him to get comfortable and relaxed, and that’s exactly what he did. He was relaxed and I slipped over and just shot it. He gave it to me and I had to take it. It put him down.

“The result is self-explanatory. I don’t have to say nothing. I’m willing to fight whoever next. One fight at a time and I’ll be prepared for whatever’s on the way.”
