” First of all, I want to thank God for keeping me safe in that ring. My guardian angels for holding that shield up, that armor as strong as they could. To Ringstar Sports Richard Schaefer for believing me so much to get me into this tournament. You truly have had my back through this all and appreciate you. To Mr. Honda, Teiken, the hospitality you have shown to me, my family and team has been amazing. I could not thank you enough. To Kato’s Clinic, your support is unending. I can’t thank you enough for your belief in me. To Mizuno, thank you for suiting me up for such an epic fight. You have treated me like family here and always taken care of me. To Japan, thank you for allowing us the experience of your wonderful culture both in the ring and out. Team Donaire, we trained our asses off and we just shrugged off anyone who said I didn’t stand a chance. We kept grinding and that work showed. HATERS said I was out in 1 round but we showed em our heart, our determination. To my fans, the journey we are on! You guys have gone gone thru it all with me and the amount of energy and love you’ve given is insurmountable. Lastly, to my family, my heart. I am a warrior on my shield. I came to Japan to take the Muhammad Ali trophy. I promised my sons they would see it in the morning. And with tears in my eyes, I humbly asked Inoue to borrow it for a night, not for me but for my word. It’ll be a life lesson my boys will soon learn. That you do your best and you come short. You will win. You will lose. But in either aspect you will do so graciously. It’ll pain them to see my face. They’ll kiss my wounds. They’ll see a trophy we don’t get to take home and understand what it means to want to train harder. And I told about the battle I fought. That I’d rather put my life on that sheild than give up. And that we will ALWAYS fight. I’m going to take time with my friends and family that have traveled to support me for the coming weeks. I thank you for the outpour of love and support,” said Donaire

Along the way, there were chances to move on. At times, there were reasons to move on. There was adversity. But Carbajal always said no. He said he would never leave his community, his home town or home state. As a fighter, he would always say: “Never quit.” Lots of fighters say that. But they never lived up to the promise. Carbajal lived up to it on both sides of the ropes.
He never quit in the ring or on his vow to stay at home.
Now 52 and already a longtime member of several Hals of Fame, including the international Hall in Canastota, N.Y., Carbajal finally joins the Hall that defines who he is:
An Arizonan.
Carbajal is joined in the 2019 class by late University of Arizona football coach Dick Tomey, former Suns forward Tom Chambers, Olympic swimming medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen, Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall and former Northern Arizona University trainer Michael Nesbitt.
Ramirez – Postol fight agreed
WBC Junior Welterweight champion Jose Ramirez and Viktor Postol have agreed to fight after an agreement was made between the two camps, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com
Open communication between all parties, especially [WBC president] Mauricio [Sulaiman] and the WBC, was the key to making the deal,” Top Rank’s Carl Moretti told ESPN. “Dealing with Tom was easy. We understood each other’s needs. Hopefully, it will lead to making more fights down the road. We both know a thing or two about a thing or two.”
“Postol will not be an easy mandatory for Jose, especially being trained by Freddie [Roach] and his team,” Moretti said. “But we believe Jose is getting better, bigger and stronger with each outing, and is the best in the 140-pound division.”
Nigel Benn injures shoulder; comeback fight off
Former world champion Nigel Benn’s comeback at 56 years-old is on hold after injuring his shoulder as he prepared for bout against Sakio Bika, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.
“There was no way I was going to con British fight fans, who have been so good to me, by fighting when I’m not 100 percent fit,” Benn told The Sun. “I never stopped training since the day I retired, and I’ve never felt fitter in my life. I have been dreaming of a one-off fight for years, and I’m heartbroken I have had to call it off. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. I’m now going to forget about ever fighting again.”
“I will sit back and enjoy watching my son Conor follow in my footsteps and become a world champion,” Benn told The Sun.
WBO Orders Briedis – Glowacki rematch
The WBO has ordered a rematch between cruiserweight champion Mairis Breidis and former champion Krzystof Glowacki, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.
The rematch comes after a lengthy appeals process brought by Glowacki in July following his controversial third-round knockout loss to Briedis on June 15 in the semifinals of the World Boxing Super Series.
“This was a win for Glowacki. A split decision win, but a win nonetheless,” attorney Scott Shaffer, who represents Glowacki, told ESPN on Saturday. “Briedis must give Glowacki an immediate rematch or else move forward in the World Boxing Super Series without the WBO championship. I know Glowacki wants the rematch and is looking forward to settling matters with Briedis in the ring.”
“Under the specific circumstances of this case, Glowacki should be given the opportunity of competing for the WBO (cruiserweight title) immediately,” the ruling said. “Making Glowacki wait 120 days after the competition of the WBSS tournament is an inadequate remedy, even though in the right direction. Among the factors considered that moves us to conclude that the remedy provided is inadequate is that the final of the WBSS tournament has not yet been scheduled.
“On the other hand, allowing Briedis to defend the (title) in the finals of the WBSS tournament constitutes a reward for having won the WBO title by violating the WBO regulations.”

“Kevin is a real strict trainer and he’s a southpaw specialist. We just improving our game very camp. I definitely want Jermell Charlo again. My goal is to get revenge.
“I thought I boxed really well. We stuck to the game plan. We drew the game plan up in camp and we executed. I knew he was tough and his game plan was to rough me up. I wasn’t going to fall into his game plan. I have good power and I used my boxing ability. That really helped me.
“We changed up the last few weeks to adjust to Gallimore’s style. But with the training camp we had, I was going to be ready for anyone who stepped into the ring.”

Golovkin to defend against Szeremeta in February?
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, IBF Middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin could defend his title against mandatory challenger Kamil Szeremeta on February 29th in Chicago.
“Feb. 29 is the date we’re looking at here. We have a hold on the arena,” promoter Eddie Hearn said late Saturday night at a news conference at the arena after the event he promoted there in which former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk made his heavyweight debut with a seventh-round knockout of Chazz Witherspoon in the main event.
“Gennadiy’s had back-to-back fights at the Garden, and we’ve seen from the ticket sales for this event (on Saturday night) that we have a good reputation and relationship with fight fans in [Chicago], and if he fights his mandatory, which is Szeremeta, the Polish fighter, then it would make sense to come here with such a huge Polish community. It’s not a definite, but it’s definitely a venue we’re looking at.
“It’s difficult to go to a place twice in the year with the schedule, but if there was a place we’d go twice to in a year, it would be Chicago. We’ve probably had our two biggest gates in this arena outside of [Anthony] Joshua-[Andy] Ruiz in America and it’s a great city.”
Hearn said that Szeremeta is pushing for his mandatory title fight with Golovkin and that GGG “wants to fight Canelo, but I don’t think he’s going to wait for a decision from Canelo. So it all depends on what happens in the next few weeks. Obviously, the Kovalev fight is only three weeks away. So it’s not like [Golovkin] can’t wait until then, but I don’t think he’s prepared to wait until December, etc., to have another fight [set up]. If the IBF say that the mandatory is due [since he won] a vacant title, which is generally what happens for a vacant belt, then he would jump in and take that fight.”

Spong tests positive; Usyk in need of new opponent for Saturday
Undefeated heavyweight Tyrone Spong tested positive for a banned substance, and he will not fight former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com
“My thought is it’s bad because people are trying to use a shortcut and cheat and the other side of the fight is working so hard. It’s completely disrespectful,” Egis Klimas, Usyk’s manager, told ESPN. “Usyk wasn’t very happy when he found out, of course. He prepared hard for this fight and the other side is trying to cheat and take a shortcut.
“We have been contacted by VADA to inform us that there has been an adverse finding in Tyrone Spong’s test,” promoter Eddie Hearn said. “It has been sent to the State of Illinois commission and further information will be released [on Tuesday] morning. We have reserve opponents standing by.”
Hearn did not want to disclose any of the possible replacement opponents because he was still negotiating with them, but he told ESPN he is in talks with “three or four” fighters.
Klimas said whomever Hearn can line up, Usyk will fight.
“He’s been preparing for a long time. We will fight anyone who is willing to fight,” Klimas said.
