BLAIR “THE FLAIR” COBBS READY TO PUT “THE FLAIR” BACK IN HIS GAME; COBBS SIGNS WITH PROMOTER DON KING

PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL (March 13, 2024)—Blair “The Flair” Cobbs wanted to put “The Flair” back in his boxing game and what better way to do this than to sign with the greatest boxing promoter in the world in Don King.

The 34-year-old Cobbs was hungry to get back into the ring.  The Philadelphia, PA born welterweight, who sports a 16-1-1 record with 10 KOs, continues to hold the WBC-NABF welterweight title.

“I’m ready to return to action,” said Cobbs.  “And what better way to further my career than to be with the best promoter in the game, Don King.  I’m also tired of listening to all the talk out of Adrien Broner.  Broner’s talk is cheap.  Broner seems to be more comfortable fighting on social media than he is in the ring.  There’s no reason not to get in the ring together and I’ll  show him who is the boss.

“I’m looking for bigger and more exciting fights.  I’m going to make boxing great again.  Real fighters and real boxing.  Me and Broner will be the comeback of real boxing.  Entertainment at its best.  Whooo!”

“I’m looking forward to working with Blair and his manager, Greg Hannley,” said King.  “He’s determined to add to his NABF title and we’ll get the “flair” back in his fight game.”

Cobbs showed his stuff in his last fight, Aug. 6, 2022, when he won a 10-round unanimous decision against former world champion Maurice Hooker, who had only one loss in 32 fights.

Cobbs suffered the first loss of his career on March 19, 2022 to Alexis Rocha, a fight that he took with just one week’s notice.  With his popularity, Cobbs still sold out the arena.

Cobbs won the North American Boxing Federation Junior Welterweight championship by winning a unanimous decision over Ferdinand Kerobyan on March 21, 2019.  He has defended his title three times with two knockouts and one decision.

NATE DIAZ AND JORGE MASVIDAL TO SETTLE HEATED RIVALRY IN BLOCKBUSTER BOXING SHOWDOWN SATURDAY, JUNE 1 ON FANMIO PPV

LOS ANGELES – March 13, 2024 – Combat sports superstars Nate Diaz and Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal will bring their epic rivalry to a long-awaited, violent conclusion on Saturday, June 1 when they square off in a professional boxing showdown headlining “LAST MAN STANDING” presented by Fanmio PPV from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

Fanmio, the renowned pay-per-view network focused on bringing the best entertainment to market, will deliver this much anticipated rematch to the fans who have demanded it for so long. Fanmio will once again bring two of sports and entertainment’s biggest personalities together on the grand stage, after their success presenting the blockbuster Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul showdown in June 2021.

This mega event will include a loaded undercard and be preceded by a multiple-city promotional tour and shoulder programming bringing fans inside the fighters’ camps (details to be announced).

The 10-round 175-pound light heavyweight clash headlines a PPV available for purchase at Fanmio.com/PPV and Fanmio.com/DiazVsMasvidal for the early pricing of $49.99 until Friday, April 12 (on sale from $79.99). Live event ticket information will be announced shortly. Fanmio will present “LAST MAN STANDING” in association with Diaz’s Real Fight Inc. and Masvidal’s Gamebred Boxing Promotions.

“When we started our journey into boxing, we wanted to bring only the most entertaining fights together that would help transcend the world of combat sports,” said Solomon Engel, Fanmio CEO. “Being able to put together the Diaz vs. Masvidal rematch in the boxing ring is in line with that vision. These guys are the original and true BMFs, have continuously sold out arenas and sold millions of pay-per-views. June 1 gives each the opportunity to write a new chapter in their storied history, settle their score and show the world who will be the last man standing.”

Already MMA legends who have garnered legions of fans with their combination of thrilling fighting styles and outspoken personalities, Diaz vs. Masvidal marks the first time two true MMA stars will go toe-to-toe in a boxing ring. Throughout their storied careers, these two fighters have accounted for three of the top 10 highest-selling pay-per-view events in UFC history, with over 10 million pay-per-view buys combined over their careers.

“Nate’s a dead man walking,” said Masvidal, who came out of retirement for this fight. “I can’t wait to prove that last time was no fluke. He got saved by the referee. Now we are boxing, which he says is his forte, but he’s got no shot at beating me. I’m not going to give him an inch in that ring to even breathe. If he thought our MMA match was bad, this is going to be much worse. I’m going to drown him. I want to put away any talk that him and I are the same, or that the referee saved the day. All of that talk ends June 1. Violence and throwing hands are in both of our bloods but as I proved before, I’m a far superior athlete and I’m a meaner fighter. When June 1 comes I’ll put all unanswered questions to rest, live for the world to see.”

Each fighter has risen to the top of the combat sports world with an aggressive, “in your face” style that is as identifiable as the cities they represent, with Diaz hailing from Stockton, California and Masvidal from Miami, Florida. While each has taken a different path to his iconic status, the two pride themselves on being self-made fighters and finally met in 2019 at Madison Square Garden in an event so big it marked the first time a sitting President of the United States attended a UFC show.

This first meeting saw Masvidal take home the inaugural “BMF” title belt, a Diaz inspired belt based on his constant assertion that the style he and Masvidal bring forward made them the “baddest” in the game. The bout ended prematurely in the eyes of many, as a cut over Diaz’s eyebrow resulted in a TKO for Masvidal. With the cut leading to an unsatisfying ending, June 1 marks an opportunity for these two warriors to finally battle it out to the finish.

The world-renowned MMA superstar Diaz shattered box office and pay-per-view records across the board with his rivalry against Conor McGregor that reached beyond the combat sports arena. Diaz split the two fights with McGregor, earning 1.3 million pay-per-view buys in the first matchup and 1.6 million buys in the rematch. Already established as one of MMA’s all-time biggest stars, Diaz is now immersed in his boxing career after making his ring debut in 2023 against Jake Paul in Dallas in front of a sold-out crowd at the American Airlines Center. An avid triathlete and martial artist, Diaz’s boxing training has included being a regular sparring partner of undefeated boxing legend, Andre Ward.

The fighting pride of his native Miami, Masvidal reached superstardom by delivering memorable action again and again across years of fighting at the highest levels. Among his accolades, Masvidal won the UFC’s Fight of the Night award three times as well as Performance of the Night four times. His all-action style also allowed him to record the fastest knockout in UFC history at just five seconds. In a career full of blockbuster events, his challenge of Kamaru Usman in 2020 stood out, as the mega-fight garnered 1.3 million pay-per-view buys. Already with a professional boxing victory on his record, he can now kickstart the boxing portion of his already-legendary career with an emphatic victory over Diaz in this anticipated duel.

Follow the conversation leading up to this unique boxing event on all social media platforms with the hashtag #DiazMasvidal and through @Fanmio, @NateDiaz209 and @GamebredFighter on Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) to stay tuned for more exciting announcements leading up to June 1.

SHOHJAHON ERGASHEV RETURNS TO FACE JUAN HUERTAS IN CO-MAIN EVENT ON SALITA PROMOTIONS’ “BIG TIME BOXING USA” ON THURSDAY, MARCH 28 STREAMED LIVE ON DAZN FROM WAYNE STATE FIELDHOUSE IN DETROIT

DETROIT – March 13, 2024 – Recent world-title challenger Shohjahon Ergashev, of Uzbekistan, and now living in Detroit, will face Panama City veteran Juan Huertas in the just-added 10-round super lightweight co-main event of “Big Time Boxing USA” on Thursday, March 28, at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit and streamed live on DAZN (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT).

Also announced on the televised undercard is a six-round super lightweight matchup between undefeated Joshua James Pagan of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Santo Domingo, Ecuador’s Luis Porozo.

Presented by Salita Promotions, the second installment of the “Big Time Boxing USA” series is topped by 2016 Colombian Olympian Juan Carrillo putting his unbeaten record on the line against veteran Quinton Rankin in a 10-round light heavyweight bout. Also featured on the telcast is IBF No. 2 super middleweight contender Vladimir Shishkin returning to battle the always tough Mike Guy in a 10-round attraction.

“Ergashev vs. Huertas is going to be an exciting addition to our talent stacked fight card,” said Dmitriy Salita, President of Salita Promotions. “A healthy Shoh is a force to be reckoned with in the 140-pound division and Huertas is a great test in a crossroads fight for both.”

Tickets for the live event are on sale now and can be purchased online HERE or in-person at the Wayne State Fieldhouse Box Office.

Fighting under the tutelage of renowned trainer SugarHill Steward, the IBF #14-ranked Ergashev (23-1, 20 KOs), will be entering the ring for the first time since suffering his lone career defeat, a sixth-round stoppage loss against Subriel Matias for his IBF World Super Lightweight Championship in November of last year. A celebrity in his homeland, the 32-year-old slugger had previously, at times, looked unstoppable while dominating other then-undefeated prospects in nationally televised showdowns, including a TKO 3 over unbeaten Sonny Fredrickson and a unanimous decision over Mykal Fox.

“I am excited about getting back in the ring fully recovered and ready to go,” said Ergashev. “I look forward to putting on a great performance in Detroit. It’s a city where I started my U.S. boxing journey. My goal of being a world champion has never been stronger and I will show it with my performance on March 28.”

In his nearly 11-year boxing career, 31-year-old Huertas (17-4-1, 13 KOs) has held several national and regional championships, including the Panamanian Super Featherweight, WBA Fedecentro Super Featherweight, WBA Fedelatin Super Featherweight, and WBO Latino Lightweight titles. His most recent ring appearance came in July of last year when he scored a second-round knockout over Colombia’s Argenor Cuero.

“Fans can expect a fire filled fight since we are both known for our knockout power,” said Huertas. “I’ve been training since January staying ready. I’m glad to have a full eight-week camp for this fight.”

The 2021 U.S. Amateur Welterweight National Champion, 24-year-old Pagan (9-0, 4 KOs) turned pro in January 2022.

Showing steady improvement, Pagan was last seen in October of last year, when he scored a unanimous six-round decision over respectable veteran Braulio Rodriguez at Motor City Casino in Detroit.

Porozo (17-9, 9 KOs) is a 2008 Olympian who had 500+ amateur fights after starting fighting at the age of 10 in his hometown of Santo Domingo, Ecuador. Porozo was part of the Ecuadorian National Boxing team before turning pro in late 2015.

As a professional, he won his first 14 fights before going on a losing skid, albeit against top-level competition.

Jessie James Guerrero Returns in Stockton on Saturday

By Mario Ortega Jr. –

Nearly one year removed from his last fight, undefeated Jessie James Guerrero makes his long-awaited return to the ring this coming Saturday night when he takes on veteran Jose Rodriguez Montemayor at the Adventist Health Arena in Stockton, California. The six-round flyweight bout will serve as one of the featured attractions underneath Gabriel Flores Jr.’s homecoming main event. The event serves as the inaugural showcase for Gabriel Flores Sr.’s G-Squad Entertainment promotional entity.

Guerrero, from the famed fighting family out of Gilroy, California, is primed and ready for Saturday night, considering he has been in camp since the fall of last year. Unfortunately for Guerrero, fight after fight fell through during that stretch: one in November, one in December and a third was first postponed, rescheduled and then ultimately canceled in January.

“It does mess with us,” explains Guerrero. “Are we going to fight or are we not going to fight? I am working my butt off in camp, cutting weight, gaining weight, cutting weight. For me, it’s a good thing that I walk around between these weights, so I don’t really have to worry too much about it. So I feel pretty good right now.”

Guerrero, the nephew of former world champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, has continued to develop his craft in the gym, despite not getting the chance to show off his new tools before a paying crowd. Training under and alongside his uncle and sparring different types of fighters, Guerrero has been working hard away from the spotlight since the fall.

“Camp has been great,” says Guerrero. “We started camp off in October. I went out to camp with my uncle for his fight with [Andre] Berto. I was out there with my cousin Vic, who just fought in January. We were getting ready for our fights in November. We were out there working in a world championship camp with my uncle and nothing gets better than that. I was sparring with all different types of guys; lefties, righties, switchers, power punchers, counter punchers. I got all the work I needed.”

When the January bout, scheduled to take place in San Jose, California, was taken off the books, Guerrero (3-0-2, 3 KOs) almost immediately shifted focus to this Saturday in Stockton, which will now serve as just his second contest to take place in the United States.

“I took a week off and reset,” recalls Guerrero. “I came home for a week before going to camp again. I stayed in shape and worked on what I needed to improve on so I could be 110 percent for this fight coming up on March 16th.”

Guerrero’s pro ledger fails to include two bouts he won as a 16-year-old in Tijuana, Mexico that have yet to be recognized by official record keeper BoxRec. With only a year of amateur fights under his belt, Guerrero’s team, which includes his father Ruben, his grandfather Ruben Sr. and his uncle Robert, believed Jessie James could handle the move to the paid ranks shortly after completing his sophomore year of high school.

“A lot of people thought we were crazy,” admits Jessie James. “A lot of people told my grandpa…but from a coach with a lot of experience, doing this for over 40 years, he knows what’s best for me and my team knows what’s best for me. I was excited to go pro and I got a little glory while I was still at school. By the time I fought my fourth and fifth fight in Mexico, I would take two weeks off of school to finish the last two weeks of camp. I would go back and a lot of the staff would give me congratulations or tell me they were proud of me. Teachers had newspapers of me in the classroom. I got a good amount of glory for the next two weeks at school.”

In his last outing, Guerrero made his stateside debut in Fresno, California on a big Top Rank-promoted event. The night got off to a great start for the young Guerrero. “It was a great experience that I will never forget,” recalls Jessie James. “I remember walking out through that tunnel and seeing all those people. This is what it feels like. It all happened so quick, so I didn’t really look around. But after the fight, I could look around at all the people yelling and cheering, so it was a great excitement. Now I have that experience and got those butterflies out of the way, so now I know what that moment feels like, moving on.”

After the pageantry ended, Guerrero encountered new challenges and endured a learning experience before ultimately settling for a draw against Eduardo Alvarez. The first hiccup would be seeing his own blood as the result of an accidental headbutt in the first round.

“I didn’t even realize I had got cut until I got back to the corner,” says Guerrero. “My first pro fight, I got headbutted. My opponent’s head went right to my nose and my nose started swelling up and I thought I broke it. But this fight I had got cut and I didn’t notice until I got back to the corner and they told me and then I saw the blood on me. I handled it well and didn’t let it faze me. When I went back to the corner, I just felt like it was a dogfight now and that we were in for a good one.”

After battling his own blood, Guerrero also came up against an official he felt had it out for him. The end result would be a split decision draw where no judge scored it the same. “That whole night was a bunch of drama,” exclaims Guerrero. “The ref was a jerk to us the whole time. I couldn’t fight my fight, it just threw me off. Any little thing, I felt like he was going to take a point or find a way to mess with us. That’s why they say in four-rounders, you have to take them out easy. Anything can happen in four-rounders. That was the last four-rounder and I’m glad to move to six-rounders.”

With his uncle Robert’s hall of fame type career winding down, Jessie James is one of four Guerreros of his generation carrying on the family’s fighting legacy. His cousin Victor Guerrero is an undefeated middleweight and his cousins Maribel and Robert Guerrero Jr. just made their professional debuts this past Saturday in Tijuana.

“It is not just one of us in the hot seat,” says Jessie James. “There’s four of us. We see each other in the gym. We push each other. We watch and give each other tips. We have my uncle here helping with my cousins and I, and my grandpa. We are all in the gym and working, so it helps a lot. For my uncle, making the way and making a name in this sport, that does bring us a bonus to get into these fights. A lot of promotional companies want fighters with an amateur background, Olympians and national champions. So for us, with very few amateur fights, it is a big opportunity for us and the window is very small, so we are taking everything we can and pushing for it, to get our names out there.”

Adding to his motivation in carrying on the Guerrero family business, Jessie James will soon be welcoming a new addition to the clan, as he and his girlfriend Ariel are expecting their first born to arrive in June.

“I found that out the first week I was in Vegas for camp,” remembers Jessie James. “When I found that out, my switch flipped. Every single day, I put 150% into everything I did, day-in and day-out. No matter what it was, sparring or running…I said to myself I have a family to support now. When I had a one-on-one talk with my uncle, he told me that he could see the difference since I had been there and found out. He had seen it, that I had changed and in everything I did, I had stepped up. He was surprised and could see how hungry I was to do something. Coming from not only a world champion in this sport, but coming from my uncle, that motivates me and pushes me because I have seen him do it. Now that I have a baby on the way, I have to make a statement in the sport. ”

With a baby shower slated for the end of the month, and a fight scheduled on his expecting girlfriend’s birthday, March 2024 is lined up to be one of the most memorable calendar pages in the life of young Jessie James Guerrero. The first order of business comes this Saturday in Stockton.

“I am ready to put on a show. I want to say thank you for all my supporters, my family and friends and everyone that has been supporting me. It is not just hard on me when these fights fall out. I’ve got people buying tickets and taking time off of work to come, some coming from out of state, to come and just to have these fights fall out. This time around, it just adds that fire to me, that they came to support me and I can’t let them down. For months, we’ve been in camp and ready to fight. With the fight on my girlfriend’s birthday, I got to come home with the win. I’ve gotta show out.”

Tickets for the event, promoted by G-Squad Entertainment, are available online at Ticketmaster.com

LAUREN PRICE MBE CHALLENGES JESSICA MCCASKILL FOR WELTERWEIGHT WORLD TITLES ON MAY 11TH IN CARDIFF

Cardiff, UK (March 13, 2024) – Olympic Gold Medallist Lauren Price MBE will challenge Jessica McCaskill for the WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine World Welterweight Titles on Saturday, May 11th at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

Following a glittering amateur career that saw her claim Commonwealth, European and World glory on route to making history as the first Welsh boxer to win Olympic gold, Price (6-0, 1 KO) can write her name in the record books again by becoming Wales’ first female world champion.

The 29-year-old from Ystrad Mynach is yet to lose a round in the professional ranks but will face by far her toughest career test when she attempts to dethrone current welterweight ruler McCaskill (12-3-1, 5 KOs).

McCaskill versus Price will top a huge night of boxing in the Welsh capital as Price looks to secure world honours in front of her home fans. Price is no stranger to representing her country on the world stage having earned 52 caps for the Welsh national football team before deciding to focus her talents on boxing.

McCaskill, from Chicago, Illinois, is a two-weight world champion, who unified the WBA and WBC World Super Lightweight Titles before moving up in weight to end Cecilia Brækhus’ decade long reign at the top of the welterweight division.

Toppling Braekhus with back-to-back wins in 2021 and 2022, McCaskill became undisputed champion at 147 lbs, a weight class where she remains undefeated.

McCaskill has previously challenged Katie Taylor for the WBA World Lightweight Title in 2017 and Chantelle Cameron for the Undisputed Super Lightweight World Titles in 2022. Most recently, McCaskill fought to a draw with Britain’s Sandy Ryan in a fiercely contested welterweight unification clash.

Lauren Price MBE said: “I’m over the moon for this fight to finally be getting announced. I know Ben Shalom and my team have been working very hard behind the scenes to make this happen so I just want to say a big thank you to them.

“The fact it’s in Cardiff is amazing. I’ve not boxed there since I first started out which was a good few years back now. I can’t wait to put on a show in front of my friends, family and Welsh supporters who have been great in supporting me throughout my career. It’ll be an incredible night for sure, to beat the reigning champion in Wales and keep the world titles here will be some feeling!

“Jessica McCaskill is the current champion. She’s game, experienced and strong but I’ll be 100% ready for whatever she brings on the night. I believe in my ability. I back myself and like I said earlier, I can’t wait to bring those world titles back home to Wales, and hopefully this will line me up to bring more massive nights back to Wales in the near future.”

Jessica McCaskill said: “I don’t know much about Price but when it comes to fighters from the UK the expectation is usually lots of back pedalling and holding. I don’t know if this will be the case but coming to Wales means Price is hopefully going to want to put on a good show. That’s exactly what I want because I plan on doing the same. I’m here to steal all of her fans. I’m going to show her what it takes to be a champion and the belts will be coming back to America with me.”

BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “Lauren Price is one of the most talented and decorated athletes that Wales has ever produced. With that, as a promoter, comes great pressure to deliver nights that can forge a legacy. I’m delighted to deliver a huge world title opportunity for Lauren against a very dangerous and experienced champion in Jessica McCaskill. This is a chance for Lauren to establish herself as one of boxing’s future pound-for-pound stars. I believe we are looking at an icon of the sport. She is already a gold medallist, already an MBE, and this is a real milestone and a monumental moment in her career. This is something she has worked towards since she first put on a pair of gloves. I expect a hero’s welcome for her in Cardiff and hopefully a historic performance and the first of many memorable nights in Wales.”

Lauren Price MBE challenges Jessica McCaskill for the WBA, IBO and Ring Magazine World Welterweight Championships on Saturday, May 11th at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff, live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

This event is presented in association with official partners bet365, Everlast and Integritas Property Group.

There has been a long time since two Mexicans have faced each other in an event like this. It’s going to be a grand fight. Jamie Munguia is an ex-champion who’s been winning fights and demonstrating great things. That tells me it’s going to be an exciting fight. I am very happy and grateful to Jamie that he agreed to make this happen.”

“Cinco de Mayo weekend is a crown jewel in the boxing calendar, and this year will be one of the most anticipated in recent memory with this all-Mexico showdown between undisputed champion and future Hall of Famer Canelo Álvarez taking on the undefeated power-puncher Jaime Munguía headlining a PBC Pay-Per-View event on Prime Video,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Saturday, May 4 at T-Mobile Arena will be the highlight of what is always one of the city’s biggest weekends. Fans know that when an all-time great like Canelo faces a hungry action fighter like Munguía, the chances for drama and fireworks are through the roof.”

“An all-Mexican championship showdown on Cinco de Mayo weekend between two guys with immense pride for their country and at the top of their games — it doesn’t get any better for the sport of boxing,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Given Jaime’s incredible offensive attack, Canelo’s unmatched counterpunching and both guys’ tremendous power, fans are in for an absolute barn burner. We at Golden Boy are proud to have been able to work with our partners at DAZN to help make this massive battle and potential instant classic in Las Vegas that you don’t want to miss!”

“Jaime Munguía continues to make history as he paves his way in the sport,” said Fernando Beltrán, CEO of Zanfer Boxing Promotions. “There will be an overflow of Mexican pride in Las Vegas. This fight was accomplished for the people of México between two of the top Mexican fighters in boxing.”

*CANELO ÁLVAREZ VS. JAIME MUNGUÍA*

The reigning WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO Super Middleweight World Champion, Canelo Álvarez will look to extend his own record of successful undisputed title defenses in the four-belt era as he defends his belts for the fourth time in a 12-round matchup against the unbeaten former 154-pound world champion Jaime Munguía, who will compete at the full 168-pound limit for the third straight fight.

Having captured world titles at 154, 160, 168 and 175-pounds, Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) returns to action after a dominant victory last September that saw him drop former undisputed super welterweight champion Jermell Charlo on his way to a unanimous decision. The fighting pride of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Canelo became undisputed at super middleweight in November 2021 by taking the IBF belt from then unbeaten Caleb Plant via an 11th-round TKO. After dropping a light heavyweight title fight against Dmitriy Bivol in May 2022, Canelo rebounded to defeat Gennadiy Golovkin in their September 2022 trilogy fight before besting John Ryder in May 2023.

Under the guidance of his renowned manager and trainer Eddy Reynoso, Canelo has triumphed over a long list of elite fighters since turning pro at just 15-years-old in 2005, including Golovkin, plus Shane Mosley, Erislandy Lara, Miguel Cotto and Sergey Kovalev to name a few. Outside of the Bivol fight, Canelo’s only other defeat came against undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather in September 2013.

“I’m very proud and excited to be able to make this fight,” said Canelo. “A Mexican versus another Mexican is always a huge fight and it’s been a while since there’s been one like this. It’s great to give an opportunity like this to a fighter that’s earned it like Jaime has. It gives me a lot of joy that two Mexicans will be facing each other in such a big fight for the sport.”

The 27-year-old Munguía (43-0, 34 KOs) first burst onto the scene in 2018, shocking Sadam Ali via a fourth-round TKO to claim a 154-pound world championship, which he would go on to defend successfully five times. A native of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Munguía continued his dominance after moving up to 160-pounds, going 6-0 at the weight class from 2020 through 2022, including triumphs over D’Mitrius Ballard, Gabriel Rosado and Tureano Johnson, all while garnering a reputation as one of the most fan-friendly fighters in the sport.

Munguía made his debut campaigning at super middleweight in June 2023, facing longtime top contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Munguía emerged victorious with a unanimous decision in the back-and-forth affair that garnered Fight of the Year honors from the BWAA. In his most recent fight, Munguia joined forces with legendary trainer Freddie Roach, who helped guide him to a dominant ninth-round stoppage of veteran contender John Ryder in January.

“I’m very, very happy and filled with enthusiasm for this great opportunity,” said Munguía. “I’m incredibly grateful to everyone involved who were able to make this fight a reality. We are ready to give fans a great night of boxing on Saturday, May 4. I can’t wait to demonstrate to the world that I am capable of doing great things. Viva Tijuana and Viva México!”

Attorney Keith Sullivan Signs Amateur boxing star Nisa Rodriguez

NEW YORK CITY (March 11, 2024) – New York City-based lawyer Keith Sullivan has announced his signing of amateur boxing star Nisa Rodriguez to an exclusive managerial contract.

The 33-year-old Rodriguez is a New York City police officer, and former NYC teacher who has captured three National Golden Gloves Championship titles. She is also an eight-time New York Daily News Golden Gloves, six-time Metro Championships, two-time Empire State and Caribbean and Central Americano gold medalist.

Rodriguez is scheduled to make her pro debut this Friday night (March 15) at home in the Madison Square Garden Theater on a 360 Promotions card in a four-round bout versus Jozette Cotton (0-3-1), who is unbeaten in three bare knuckle fights.

“I decided to go professional now,” Rodriguez explained, “mainly due to my son who said he would like to see me go for some world titles now that he’s competing himself at the age of 14. I was set on focusing on my career with the police department, but I saw what boxing has done to inspire and teach other women. So, I’m hoping we can encourage more women to learn the sweet science. My pro debut feels like a homecoming. I’ve grown up at the Mecca of Boxing, where I watched my first Daily News Golden Gloves, and the following year won the title there at the age of 17, the youngest in my division. Fast forward seven more Golden Gloves and many other titles, I’m honored to have my debut where it all started.

“I signed with Keith because we had an opportunity to speak about what is expected from one another and given his track record with helping young amateur kids and reputation for being trustworthy. I utilize help at-risk adolescence I encounter in my line of work and through the Cops and Kids gym– it felt secure and reassuring. I have the utmost confidence he will assist me in my future professional career.”

Rodriguez has been a NYC police officer for two years, stationed citywide for the rapid response unit, specializing in any crimes that involve adolescents and supporting families of homicides.

Sullivan also manages Brooklyn heavyweight prospect Pryce Taylor (3-0, 2 KOs), in addition to co-managing World Boxing Association (WBA) No. 13-rated welterweight contender Paddy “The Real Deal” Donovan (13-0, 10 KOs), the reigning WBA Continental Champion from Limerick, Ireland. Sullivan co-manages Donovan with former world middleweight champion Andy Lee.

“My mother was a teacher, my father was a cop, so putting aside Nisa’s incredible amateur career, I liked how she was living her life,” Sullivan commented. “She is a guiding force for kids who need a good role model. For me, it was a no-brainer based on her character. Combine that with her boxing talent, well, let’s just say I am excited for her future.”

CHARLIE EDWARDS LAUNCHES BID TO BE TWO-WEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION ON APRIL 12, LIVE ON CHANNEL 5

Charlie Edwards will launch his bid to become a two-weight world champion when he headlines a Wasserman Boxing event at York Hall on Friday April 12, live and free on Channel 5.

And on the same crunch night of action, Lerrone Richards looks to accelerate his pursuit of second world super middleweight title, when he fights in the co-main event.

Edwards, the former world flyweight king, is now targeting bantamweight gold and takes on former European champion Georges Ory for the WBC Silver International title over 10 rounds.

Richards, meanwhile, is laser-focused on reclaiming the super middle crown and knows he must get past the tough Steed Woodall over 10 rounds, to keep his dream alive, with the WBO Intercontinental Super Middleweight title up for grabs.

Wasserman Boxing, in association with LadbrokesNuman and Infinitum, returns to the spiritual home of British boxing with Don’t Call It A Comeback, its second blockbuster show of 2024, as two of Britain’s former world champions set out on the road back to the top.

Ladbrokes Odds

Edwards – 1/12 | Ory – 7/1 | Draw – 20/1

Richards – 1/8 | Woodall – 5/1 | Draw – 20/1

UNDERCARD•    Jordan Dujon and Kingsley Egbunike collide for the vacant Southern Area Super Welterweight title.
•    One of British boxing’s brightest prospects Tom Welland, fresh from a thumping stoppage win in Telford, has a fourth contest of his pro career.
•    The Mikkel Kessler-trained Oliver Zaren boxes in front of a UK audience for the fourth time in a row, in an eight-round contest.
•    The exciting Jesse Brandon returns for a first outing of 2024.

QUOTES
Charlie Edwards said: “This has been a long time coming but, finally, I can confirm that the road to becoming a two-weight world champion starts now.
“The past couple of years have been extremely challenging but I never lost sight of the fact that there would always be light at the end of the tunnel, and on April 12, at the famous York Hall, I put on a performance to make the bantamweight title holders sit up and take note.
“Thank-you to Wasserman Boxing and Channel 5 for believing in me and giving me the platform from which to begin my charge at a second world title.
“I can’t wait to bring world title fights to his huge audience on terrestrial TV, it’s my time, it’s Resurgence season.”

Lerrone Richards said: “Being known as a two-time champion of the world, and further etching my name into the history of British boxing, is what drives me every day.
“And what will make that extra special is that the whole country, who will be watching at home on Channel 5, are able to come on this journey with me.
“It felt good to make my Wasserman Boxing debut late last year, but in 2024 I’m putting my foot to the floor and reclaiming what is rightfully mine – the super middleweight championship of the world.
“It all starts on April 12 at York Hall.  Don’t miss it.”

Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman, said: “One historic venue, two of British boxing’s former world champions and a potential audience of millions on Channel 5, means April 12 has all the ingredients to be yet another special night for Wasserman Boxing.
“Charlie Edwards and Lerrone Richards have been straining at the leash and, next month at York Hall, we let them loose on the rivals who stand between them and making world title history.
“For Edwards, the dream is to become a two-weight champion, while Richards is set on reclaiming the title he didn’t lose in the ring.
“But don’t call it a comeback, Edwards and Richards have been at the top of their game for years, and on April 12 they put the world champions on notice.”

Alex Apetai of Ladbrokes said: “Channel 5 viewers are once again being treated to some of the best in the business next month and, as always, we’re delighted to play a part in proceedings.

“Lerrone Richards will no doubt have one eye on a big British bout later this year,  and will comfortably take to the ring as heavy favourite to beat Steed Woodall, while the future is just as bright for Charlie Edwards.

“Both Richards and Edwards head into their respective fights with 18 wins to their name, each with four at the iconic York Hall. With so many similarities in their careers up to this point, we can’t wait to see who steals the show on April 12.”

The 24-year-old Hyde, fighting out of Cork, will challenge fellow Irishman, Craig “BTL” McCarthy (10-1-1, 2 KOs), the defending Boxing Union of Ireland Celtic Super Middleweight Champion, in the eight-round main event on a card presented by Westside Promotions.

“He’s (McCarthy) is a southpaw, fit and always in top shape, and he always comes to fight. He won his title at home on a show I was on in my fourth pro fight,” Hyde commented. “I was watching his fight with my coach, and he said, ‘We’ll get him next year,’ and here we are. I’m a boxer but if we get in the center of the ring, I’ll go toe-to-toe with him, and that will really get the Irish fans into it. It’s going to be a good night on St. Patrick’s Day Eve, the parade is on the same day as the show but in the afternoon.”

Like so many Irish boxers in the past – Wayne McCollough, Steve Collins, John Duddy, Kevin McBride, Patrick Hyland to name a few – the 2023 Irish Prospect of the Year, Hyde is now training in the United State. Tommy has had a six-week training camp preparing for this Saturday’s fight in Santa Monica (CA), under the direction of head trainer Pedro Nemes.

“Every camp has been different,” Hyde said. ”I’m obsessed with learning every day and it’s been that way here. I’m getting on great with my trainer, Pedro Neme.”

A celebrated Irish amateur boxer, Hyde participated in more than 100 amateur matches, reached the quarterfinals of the prestigious World Junior Championships in 2015, in addition to capturing three Irish National Championships, three Celtic Cup titles and the 2019 Haringey Box Cup.

Hyde’s pro career is right on track.

“Brilliant,” Hyde explained the plan. “It’s exactly what we set out to do. We wanted seven six-rounders in my first year and got it. Then, the step-up this year to fight for a title in eight-rounders, and 10 by the end of this year. The plan is to collect titles and names and stay busy this year, fighting at my second home in Boston, San Francisco again, and back home in Cork, Ireland.

Sky’s The Limit: Unbeaten Phenom Jalen “Sky” Walker Signs Promotional Contract with Top Rank

LAS VEGAS (March 7, 2024) — Undefeated junior lightweight southpaw Jalen “Sky” Walker (12-0-1, 10 KOs) has signed a long-term promotional contract with Top Rank.

Walker will make his Top Rank debut in an eight-rounder against Alejandro Guerrero (12-4, 9 KOs) on Saturday, April 13 at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Walker-Guerrero will be part of the ESPN+-streamed undercard of the Jared Anderson-Ryad Merhy heavyweight main event.

“Jalen Walker is a sensational talent who I believe will soon be among the top 130-pound contenders,” said Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum.

Walker said, “I am very excited and looking forward to working with Top Rank, a company that promoted Muhammad Ali and guided the careers of fighters such as Floyd Mayweather Jr., Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, and many more. With hard work, dedication, and the Top Rank team behind me, I will be amongst those names!”

“As a team, we are delighted to be working with Top Rank,” said Charlie Sims of Huge Project Management. “Jalen is an amazing talent and now he has the platform in Top Rank to showcase his ability. It’s time to show the world what he can achieve.”

A Los Angeles native, Walker began boxing when he was seven and compiled an impressive 108-13 amateur record. After capturing three national PAL titles, he made his pro debut in November 2019 and stopped his first six opponents. In December 2020, he vanquished durable Mexican veteran Diuhl Olguin via six-round unanimous decision, which was followed by a TKO victory against Julian Evaristo Aristule the following March. After being saddled with a draw in April 2021, he has gone 4-0 with three knockouts. Walker last fought in November, when he iced Jorge Villegas with a furious flurry in the second round.

Undefeated Cruiserweight Muhsin Cason Returns to the Ring Against DeShon Webster on April 27 in Philly

PHILADELPHIA, PA (March 7, 2024) – Undefeated cruiserweight “The Muslim Boxer” Muhsin Cason (12-0, 9 KOs) is set to step back into the ring on April, 2024, at the iconic Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA, for what promises to be a gritty battle against DeShon Webster (12-7-3, 6 KOs). The scheduled 6-round bout is being promoted by Teflon Promotions.

Cason, who is advised by recognized manager Amer Abdallah, has been making waves in the cruiserweight division by remaining unbeaten. His upcoming bout against Webster presents another opportunity for Cason to showcase his skills and solidify his position as one of the most promising talents in the cruiserweight division.

“My journey to becoming a world champion continues on April 27th” said Cason.  “I’m looking forward to stepping back into the ring and under those lights where I feel most comfortable”

With a stable of great fighters that includes 3-division world champion Badou Jack, rising prospect Bryce Mills, and unbeaten bantamweight Khalid Twaiti, Abdallah feels Cason is ready to step up in competition in 2024.

“This is a big year for Muhsin as we plan to increase his level of competition and activity. He’s been working diligently in the gym awaiting the next call to go out…he’s always ready,” stated Abdallah, emphasizing the significance of this bout in Cason’s career. “This fight is a critical steppingstone for him, as it’s in his backyard and against a tough opponent. I typically don’t like fighters holding camp during Ramadan, but Muhsin was adamant about getting back in the ring as soon as he could. This is what he lives for.”

The Liacouras Center is located at 1776 N Broad St, Philadelphia, PA 19121. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with the first fight scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.

MOST VALUABLE PROMOTIONS RETURNS TO ORLANDO ON APRIL 26 FOR MOST VALUABLE PROSPECTS VI, HEADLINED BY TOP WBA SUPER WELTERWEIGHT YOENIS TELLEZ VS. JOSEPH JACKSON

NEW YORK, NY – March 6, 2024 – Today, Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) announced that its Most Valuable Prospects series will return with its sixth installment on Friday, April 26th at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, FL available globally on DAZN subscription. Most Valuable Prospects VI will be headlined by #10-ranked WBA super welterweight Yoenis Tellez (7-0, 6 KOs) vs. Joseph Jackson (19-0, 15 KOs) for the WBA Latin America Continental Championship and will be presented by CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy. The co-main event will feature Benigno Aguilar (11-0-1, 4 KOs) vs. Alexander Rios (8-1, 3 KOs) in a rematch of their undercard thriller on MVP’s historic Serrano vs. Ramos and Most Valuable Prospects III card. Tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 11th at 10am ET on Ticketmaster.com.

Making his second appearance on the Most Valuable Prospects series is the 23-year-old star prospect Yoenis Tellez (7-0, 6 KOs), who will take on the more experienced and fellow undefeated knockout machine Joseph Jackson in a highly-anticipated 10-round super welterweight headliner in defense of the WBA Continental Latin Americas title. Tellez, from Stafford, Texas by way of Santiago, Cuba, initially made a name for himself in the opening PPV bout of the Terrence Crawford vs. Errol Spence Jr. welterweight championship unification showdown, in which Tellez took on the far more experienced Sergio Ramos and dealt Ramos a brutal 3rd round knockout, the seasoned Garcia’s third loss in 37 professional matches – and his first loss by TKO. Tellez spent most of his youth in Cuba as an amateur boxer, winning national youth titles in 2017 and 2018 before moving to Russia in 2020 to make his pro debut. Tellez eventually moved to Texas in 2022 to begin training with Ronnie Shields. In his most recent appearance in the ring on the Jake Paul vs. Andre August & Most Valuable Prospects IV main card, Tellez secured the WBA Continental Latin Americas title with his jaw-dropping knockout of Livan Navarro in the 10th round. He is promoted by BoxLab Promotions and Warrior’s Boxing.

Joseph Jackson (19-0, 15 KOs), Tellez’s 35-year-old challenger for the WBA Continental Latin Americas title, comes to the ring by way of Greensboro, North Carolina off three straight knockout wins, adding to his already impressive undefeated resume. Jackson’s biggest win to date was over Derrick Colemon Jr., which resulted in a unanimous decision for Jackson as he handed Colemon his first and only loss to date on Showtime’s Shobox series in February 2020.

In the co-main feature on MVP’s Most Valuable Prospects VI will be the thrilling 8-round lightweight rematch of Mexico vs. Puerto Rico between fan favorites Benigno Aguilar (11-0-1, 4 KOs) vs. Alexander Rios (8-1, 3 KOs). Each fighter is making their third appearance on Most Valuable Prospects following top-performance moments in the series, including Rios’s first round knockout of Javier Ailla on Most Valuable Prospects II. In their last matchup on the historic card of Amanda Serrano vs. Danila Ramos and Most Valuable Prospects III in October 2023, the two each put their undefeated records on the line, with Aguilar fighting to a nail-biting split decision victory over Rios. Aguilar solidified his victory as he scored a major knockdown of Rios down in the fifth round as the two traded a thundering series of body and face shots across the bout. Rios most recently notched another win in March, and now seeks to settle the score against Aguilar.

Also on the main card will be a 6-round battle between featherweights Jan Paul Rivera (8-0, 5 KOs) and David Perez (9-0, 2 KOs). Rivera, the 22-year-old prospect from Salinas, Puerto Rico, was a decorated member of the Puerto Rican national boxing team as an amateur, competing in over 200 bouts. His amateur accolades include winning two straight Puerto Rico Elite National Championships in 2020 and 2021, as well as the Puerto Rico Youth National Championships in 2018 and 2019. He also earned a silver medal at the AIBA Youth World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in 2018. Across his 8-fight professional career to date, Rivera has competed across the USA, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Colombia, furthering his aspirations to become a global star in the sport. David Perez, the 26-year-old talent from Tulsa, Oklahoma, recently bested then-6-0 William Green in September 2023, and looks to take his first major step up in competition to test his undefeated record against Rivera on Friday, April 26.

“Coming off MVP’s latest record-breaking event in Puerto Rico, we are excited to return to Orlando for our next Most Valuable Prospects event on Friday, April 26,” said MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian and Jake Paul. “Continuing to shine the spotlight on boxing’s best young talents is a core tenant of MVP, and we look forward to welcoming back Yoenis Tellez, Benigno Aguilar, and Alexander Rios to the series’ sixth installment following their sensational performances on previous Most Valuable Prospects iterations over the last year. Thank you to DAZN, CELSIUS, Boxlab Promotions, and Caribe Royale for their ongoing partnership to make this series the best up-and-coming talent feature in boxing.”

“On behalf of Caribe Royale and Boxlab Promotions we’re excited to be partnering with MVP on another dynamic boxing card. The card is stacked with fast rising prospects in various weight classes,” said Amaury Piedra, Managing Director of Caribe Royale Resort and President of Boxlab Promotions. “This is just another example of how the team has made Orlando the focal point for boxing in Florida. These action packed events give both Caribe Royale guests and locals another reason to visit Orlando’s only 4 diamond all suite resort.”

Additional bouts for Most Valuable Prospects VI will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Most Valuable Prospects series is produced and marketed by MVP with Boxlab Promotions serving as the official licensed promoter and is distributed globally by DAZN. The sixth event in the series will continue the commitment from MVP co-founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian to highlight the world’s best up-and-coming boxing talent. All events within Most Valuable Prospects will take place on Friday nights in 2024. CELSIUS Live Fit Essential Energy, maker of lifestyle energy drink, is the exclusive energy drink sponsor of Most Valuable Promotions and the Most Valuable Prospects series.

Jonathan de Pina to make Granite Chin debut on “Pandemonium at The Palladium 3” card

QUINCY, Mass. (March 6, 2024)  – The newest member of Granite Chin Promotions’ (GCP) growing stable of fighters, Dorchester (MA) lightweight prospect Jonathan de Pina (12-2, 5 KOs), will make his GCP debut March 23rd on the “Pandemonium at the Palladium 3” card, presented on Granite Chin Promotions (GCP), at the famed Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.

“Pandemonium at the Palladium 3” will be streamed live on BXNGTV.com.

“Right Now,” de Pina explained, “I’ve been fighting six years as a pro, but I’ve only had 14 fights. Other guys have been fighting for only two years and they’re catching up with me. It’s hard being by yourself. I’ve dealt with other promoters, fighting on their shows, and I feel that (promoter) Chris (Traietti) is the most honest and reasonable. And he’s a former boxer who knows both sides of boxing, and he really cares about fighters. I need to be busy, and he can do that for me.”

“Jonathan is a high-level fighter who, in my opinion, really hasn’t had a promoter consistent and serious about bringing him to the next level,” GCP president Chri Traietti commented. “That is different now; he is part of the Granite Chin family, and getting our guys under the lights at big arenas is what this company is all about. We plan on getting Jonathan in the ring a bunch in 2024, then in 2025, I have ZERO doubt that you will be seeing him fight on a major network.”

A 2018 New England Golden Gloves and 2017 Ringside (novice) champion, de Pina started boxing at the age of 16, and had a 55-9 amateur record. Jonathan used to throw on gloves and put fights on YouTube, at least until his father found out about it, telling his son that if he was going to box he should do it the right way. He brought Jonathan to Peter Welch’s Gym in South Boston.

“I loved it right away,” de Pina said. “We always were fond of boxing at home. We had a punching bag in our house and my father taught me. My mother wasn’t a fan, though.”

Not only will de Pina make his GCP debut on March 23rd, but he will also be fighting in Worcester for the first time, when he faces Michael “Titan” Taylor in a four-round match. Jonathan moved up to the 140-pound division for his last fight, but he’s back fighting at his natural weight, 135, confident that he will not have problems making weight. Jonathan is a big 135 but he quickly realized that fighting at 140 was too much.

When he first started watching boxing, he was a huge Yuriorkis Gamboa fan, until Jonathan watched Terence Crawford knockout Gamboa. “That was the first time I saw Crawford fight and he’s been my favorite fighter ever since then. He’s the reason why I switch around (orthodox and southpaw stances) and got so serious about boxing. I also liked Roy Jones, Jr and Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

“I want to fight a lot in 2024. I want Nick Molina next, then Gabby Morales, and bigger names by the end of the year.”

In the 10-round main event, Junior North American Boxing Federation (NABF) Welterweight Champion Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley (13-0, 7 KOs), of Holyoke (MA),  will make his first title defense in a rematch with Salem (MA) challenger Kenny “Lionheart” Larson (7-1-1, 5 KOs) in the 10-round main event.

Former New England Welterweight Champion Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Jr. (19-2, 9 KOs), of Holbrook (MA), faces Whitley’s brother, junior welterweight Derrick Whitley, Jr. (7-4-1, 0 KOs), in the 10-round, co-featured event.

Also fighting on this loaded card are the Sumpter brothers from Pittsfield (MA), undefeated IBA Americas Super Middleweight Champion Steve “The Savage” Sumpter (9-0, 7 KOs) and his older brother, heavyweight Quintin Sumpter (6-2, 4 KOs). Sumpter takes on veteran Antonio Louis “Tony The Best” Hernandez (7-18-2, 4 KOs) in an eight-round, non-title fight, while Quintin  throws-down with Zach Calmus (3-2, 2 KOs), of Gloucester (MA), in a four-round bout.

Card subject to change.

Tickets are priced at $45.00 (standing room), $50.00 (balcony), $90.00 (mezzanine), $125.00 (floor) and $650.00 (booth of 4) and available for purchase online at www.ThePalladium.net.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET, first bout at 7 p.m. ET.
