WBA orders Perez – Crolla rematch

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, WBA Lightweight champion Darleys Perez is ordered to rematch Anthony Crolla following their draw that took place on July 18.

“When I heard the news, I was honestly close to tears,” Crolla said of finding out the rematch had been ordered. “Not getting that decision was hard to take, but I was so grateful to even be part of such a great night, and no one can ever take those memories away from me. Now I get another chance, and I’m more determined than ever. The people of Manchester and the U.K. have been incredible, and I can’t wait to get back in there and face Perez again.”

Crolla promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing is in talks with Perez co-promoter Gary Shaw to make a deal for the rematch, which is expected to take place before the end of the year and again be in England.

“I cannot tell you how happy I am with this news,” Hearn said. “Anthony Crolla should be world champion. He hasn’t moaned, he hasn’t sulked and now he has his chance all over again. I would like to thank the WBA for making the right decision and the public for all their support of Anthony. I hope Manchester is ready for something special.

“We are already in negotiations with Perez’s team, and we expect to announce the date of the rematch very soon.”

Shaw said he expects to make a deal with Hearn and avoid a purse but added: “I’d prefer not to have to do a rematch. I like when we win and walk out as the winner. The judges said it was a draw and the WBA ordered a rematch. I don’t run the WBA, so I have to live by their rules.

“But I believe we won the first fight and I believe we will win the rematch, even though I’m not thrilled we have to do it again and it will probably be in England again. Part of the deal — and I will talk to Eddie about this — is that there cannot be an English referee. All of the officials, the referee and judges, have to be neutral.”

Roman Gonzalez to be added to Golovkin – Lemieux card

roman_gonzalez
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, Flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez will defend his crown as the cheif support to the Middleweight unification bout between Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux on October 17 in New York City.

“The date and place are confirmed. We will be fighting Oct. 17 in MSG,” said Gonzalez manager Carlos Blandon, adding that Gonzalez’s opponent for his fourth title defense was not set yet.

Blandon said they are in “advanced negotiations” with two opponents: former junior flyweight champion Giovani Segura (32-4-1, 28 KOs), 33, of Mexico, who is one of boxing’s most devastating punchers, and Puerto Rican contender McWilliams Arroyo (16-2, 14 KOs), 29, the twin brother of newly crowned junior bantamweight titlist McJoe Arroyo.

Blandon said they would also consider a fight with former unified flyweight titlist Brian Viloria, 34, of Hawaii, who scored a first-round knockout of Omar Soto on Saturday night. Top Rank, Viloria’s promoter, has said repeatedly it intended to line up Viloria for a world title fight before the end of the year.

“If Viloria’s (team) makes an interesting offer to the promoter, then they can jump in the race before we make up our minds,” Blandon said.

As soon as the card ended, HBO, Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions and Gonzalez’s promoter, Teiken Boxing of Japan, liked the idea of having him appear on Golovkin’s next card.

“It was a formula that worked in May, so why not do it again,” Loeffler said.

Golovkin – Lemieux set for October 17 at MSG on PPV

Gennady Golovkin
A mouth watering Middleweight unification title bout has been set for October 17 as Gennady Golovkin will fight David Lemieux at Madison Square Garden in New York, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“In one word: finally,” Golovkin’s promoter, Tom Loeffler told ESPN.com. “We’ve gone to great lengths to try to put unification fights together for Gennady. We have to give Lemieux and Golden Boy a lot of credit for stepping up to the plate. Gennady will not underestimate Lemieux. He is the biggest puncher he will have ever faced, and Gennady will be the biggest puncher Lemieux will have ever faced.

“It is a great unification fight between two champions and the two biggest punchers in the middleweight division. If Lemieux wins, he takes over the spot as the best middleweight in the world, and if Gennady wins, he stays the best middleweight in the world.”

Lemieux said he is looking forward to the matchup of two powerful punchers.

“This is the fight that all the fans and the world wants to see,” he said. “I hope and expect this will be the best fight of the last five years. There will be blood. It’s going to be exciting.”

“What changed my mind and everyone involved is that Lemieux can beat GGG, so why even waste our time with the mandatory? Let’s go straight to GGG,” said Lemieux’co-promoter Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN.com. “He has a real shot at beating him. And this is the big fight he wanted, and when we presented this fight to him he was ecstatic.

“Lemieux is fired up. He says, ‘Nobody has ever pushed Golovkin back. He does not know how to fight going back.’ Lemieux has a beautiful jab, and he is going to use it.”

“Everyone should be ready to have a new man to fear in the middleweight division,” Lemieux said. “I am well aware of what kind of power I am facing, but I’m not worried about it. It’s going to be a war. I know he’s going to come to fight. He might break my nose, but I’m going break his too.

“I’ve said very honestly that I don’t care who I fight, so long as they are the best, and Golovkin is the best out there in the middleweight division. And I consider myself fully of his caliber. I don’t want any easy fights. GGG is the fight that people want to see. He wants me, then he’ll get me. On the 17th, it’s going to be fireworks. I want history. I want big, big things. And this is another big step.”

“When you talk about getting bang for your buck it doesn’t get any better than this,” De La Hoya said. “When you think about the pay-per-view numbers we’re being real here. This is not a million-selling pay-per-view. We’re thinking along the lines of between 350,000 and 500,000 buys. You have to start somewhere, and this is a perfect fight for both guys to start off on pay-per-view. Obviously, we are going to stack the card like there’s no tomorrow. We want to give the fans bang for their buck.”

“We put a very fair deal together for Lemieux and Golden Boy, and the Garden put in a very strong offer to get Gennady back,” Loeffler said. “They saw his success in Los Angeles and they wanted him back in New York.”

“New York is not a very far trip from Montreal,” De La Hoya said. “We expect a lot of fans from Canada and a lot of fans there for Gennady. Without a doubt it will be a sold-out arena.”

Send In The Clowns: Kovalev blows out Mohammedi

Sergey Kovalev
LAS VEGAS – Sergey Kovalev is blunt and effective.

Mostly, he’s predictable.

If you want subtlety, pick another Russian game. Chess, maybe. It’s full of a lot of pawns, which is what every light-heavyweight has become when faced with Kovalev.

Nadjib Mohammedi was just the latest on a board that Kovalev continues to rule with impunity. Andre Ward looks like a challenger. Maybe, Adonis Stevenson. But those are only fights to imagine, talk about. For now, it’s Kovalev’s empire.

“I wanted to make him look like a clown,’’ Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KOs) said. “I wanted to make him look like a fool.’’

At 2:38 of the third round Saturday night, that’s exactly what Mohammedi (37-4, 23 KOs) looked like. He was down, finished by a right-left combination that left the Frenchman with a damaged left eye.

“I wanted it to continue,’’ said Kovalev, who also put Mohammedi on all fours with a crushing right hand that is as long as it is lethal. “I wanted more rounds.’’

Kovalev didn’t say so. But he might have wanted more time to drive home a point to his ex-trainer, Abel Sanchez, who was in Mohammedi’s corner.

Sanchez and Kovalev split in 2010 for reasons that remain unclear. What is clear, however, is that Kovalev has not been happy with the circumstances. The Russian never forgets. But he did serve up some cold vengeance in taking down Mohammedi.

Sanchez, Gennady Golovkin’s trainer, tried to explain the one-sided loss.

“It was Mandalay Bay, the bright lights, the pressure,’’ Sanchez said in the middle of the ring during the bout’s immediate aftermath.

Noticed, he never mentioned Kovalev.

The bout, which took place in front of lot of empty seats at Mandalay Bay, will quickly be forgotten. Kovalev will move on, presumably to a show dwon with Ward sometime next year. His immediate plans are for a bout in Moscow on Nov. 28. His promoter, Kathy Duiva of Main Events, said she will offer the bout to Artur Beterbiev, another Russian. Trouble is, Beterbiev is advised by Al Haymon, a Duva rival.

Next pawn, please.

Maybe, Jean Pascal.
Pascal (30-3-1, 17 KOs) ducked repeated sledge-hammer rights and, in the end, ducked an upset in winning a narrow decision that had many in the crowd crying foul and Yunieski Gonzalez (24-3-2, 10 KOs) crying tears. It was unanimous, but only the scorecards..

ON THE UNDERCARD

The Best: Joel Diaz, a junior-welterweight from trainer Abel Sanchez’ Summit Gym in Big Bear, Calif., flashed a prospect’s credentials with double-edged power.
Diaz (19-0, 15 KOs, scored two knockdowns of Alejandro Rodriguez (24-18-1, 14 KOs, in the second round, the first with a right and the second with a left. He finished Rodriguez, of Guadalajara, with a beautiful right hand for a TKO at 39 seconds of the fourth.

The Rest: Unbeaten light-heavyweight Sullivan Barrera (16-0, 11 KOs) of Miami was bleeding, looked tired and appeared to be near defeat when he railed, fighting with urgency in the seventh and energy in the eighth for a TKO of France’s Hakim Zoulikha 21-8, 10 KOs), who was one the canvas early in the eighth and finished when he absorbed a succession of blows at 1:34 of the round.

The show opened with a KO, delivered by Connecticut heavyweight Cassius Chaney (3-0, 2 KOs), who knocked Eduardo Ramirez (1-3, 1 KO) of Yuma, Ariz., unconscious and onto the canvas with a left hand at 1:35 of the first round.

Rodney Hernandez (8-2-1, 1 KO), heavyweight from Modesto, Calif, got a six-round, split decision over Brice Ritani-Coe (4-4-1, 3 KOs). Ritani-Coe, of San Pedro, Calif., shook his head in disagreement. But it was hard to know if anybody agreed with him. The arena was empty when the scores were announced.

wklitschko
World Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko signed a 5 fight extension with German television network according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

The first fight under the new deal starts with his October 24 defense with Tyson Fury.

“My previous contract expired after [the] Jennings fight, so now I have another five-fight deal with RTL. I never thought about the exact time of my retirement, but for some reason people are trying to retire me sooner than later,” Klitschko told ESPN.com.

“I don’t feel my age [and am not] tired of boxing,” he said. “I really mean it.”

Sides exploring Golovkin – Lemieux fight

Gennady Golovkin
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, Middeweight belthoders Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux are talking about a possible unification bout this fall.

Now it seems, however, that the prospect of a Golovkin-Lemieux unification fight — a very fan-friendly fight and one HBO would love to put on (and one that will cost the network a pretty penny) — has a chance of happening. Both sides acknowledge that they are at least talking about a deal. The target is Oct. 17, which is on hold at New York’s Madison Square Garden for the fight.

“We’re exploring options for David Lemieux and discussing things with Tom Loeffler [Golovkin’s promoter from K2 Promotions],” De La Hoya told ESPN.com this week. “We’ll see if we can make it. I’ll sit down with [Golden Boy vice president] Eric Gomez and see if it’s even possible. But my mind is always open to giving fans the best fights and this is one of the best fights.”

“Everyone is asking when are we going to see David versus Golovkin? Well when the financials are right we will do it,” he said. “No doubt in my mind it would be one crazy fight. Obviously, fans want to see. We would not go in there if we didn’t believe that David could hurt Golovkin. David is that throwback fighter that people love and in his last performances he showed that he could box, showed an excellent jab, showed that he has the endurance to be firing bombs from round 1 through 12, and those bombs hurt people.

“We can literally say that David is in the hurt business. Believe me, we think David will hurt Golovkin. Golovkin is certainly a great fighter, but without wanting to divulge our strategy we feel very good about our chances. People want to see Golovkin tested and we are willing if it makes business sense. We are talking and the door is open. Having said that, we are well aware that David is only 26 and is getting better day by day where Golovkin is now 33. So time is on our side. We’re not in a rush.”

“It has always been GGG’s priority to unify all the titles in the middleweight division,” Loeffler said. “If we can make a fight with Lemieux, he would be one step closer to his goal.”

Jack – Groves title bout postponed

George Groves
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, the August 22 WBC Super Middleweight title bout between Badou Jack and George Groves has been postponed from August 22 to possibly September 12.

Matthysse to battle Postol October 3 in Carson, California

Lucas Matthysse
Lucas Matthysse will take on Viktor Postol for the vacant WBC Super Lightweight title on October 3 in Carson, California and will be televised by HBO, according to Dan Rafael of espn.com

“There’s a deal in place, and we have the arena reserved. It’s going to be a great fight,” Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN.com after cutting a deal with Top Rank, which co-promotes Postol with Ukraine’s Elite Promotions. “The way I see it, any Lucas Matthysse fight … always calls for action. We’ve seen him in wars. We don’t know much about Postol. The United States hasn’t seen him in wars, but come Oct. 3, people are going to know Postol and know he is a strong fighter.”

“It’s a really interesting fight, style-wise,” said Top Rank vice president Carl Moretti, who negotiated the deal with Golden Boy’s Eric Gomez. “You have a long, tall, strong fighter in Postol, who would give any 140-pounder problems. And Matthysse is clearly one of the top 140-pounders in the world. Just because Postol isn’t well known doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the top 140-pounders as well.”

The fight will headline an HBO-televised doubleheader, although De La Hoya said he is still in the process of finalizing the deal with the network.

“We’re working through it, but it will get done,” De La Hoya said.

De La Hoya said the co-feature will be another junior welterweight bout, this one matching hot prospect Antonio Orozco and veteran contender Humberto Soto, a former junior lightweight and lightweight world titleholder.

“It was a great knockout and it shows you that Postol has the ability to do that, and Matthysse isn’t the hardest guy in the world to hit, so it should be interesting,” Moretti said.

Added De La Hoya, “It calls for an entertaining fight, a fight with a lot of action. This is the perfect fight at the perfect venue. Matthysse is exciting. He’s a power puncher. So it should be a dangerous fight for both guys, which is what Golden Boy is all about.

“I know Postol is a strong fighter, but at the same time, he has that long reach and that long jab, which makes him dangerous. It’s going to be up to Matthysse to break him down, figure him out and make the fight work in his favor.”

De La Hoya said Soto’s knee is healed and that he will be prepared for Orozco.

“He’s had a couple of bad-luck situations recently, but he’s motivated and ready to go,” De La Hoya said. “We feel Orozco is ready for this kind of fight. We feel this is the perfect step for him. It’s dangerous fight for both guys, but it’s a great fight for the fans.

Anthony Joshua to battle Gary Cornish for Commonwealth title

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, undefeated former Olympic Gold Medal winner Anthony Joshua will take on Gary Cornish on September 12 in London in a battle of undefeated Heavyweights for the Commonwealth title.

“There’s no turning back now,” Joshua said. “I thought I would need three years to learn and make mistakes, so I am ahead of schedule. Gary won’t just talk a good game like Kevin Johnson. He’s undefeated and will bring it on the night because he’s got confidence of an unbeaten fighter and he’ll bring the best out of me, and I’ll do the same for him.

“The date has given me a chance to recover my body from May 30 and have a nice long camp for Sept. 12, so I expect to be at my explosive best on the night. Gary brings the Scottish crowd, who are unbelievable, and I hope they travel down as it’s going to be a great night.”

Said Hearn: “It’s two unbeaten heavyweights, and an Englishman versus Scotsman, so this is going to be a great build-up.

“As Anthony said, Gary won’t just talk about fighting and run. Gary believes that this is a 50-50 fight, and I expect him to approach the night accordingly, and he’s going to bring passionate fans down with him.”

“I’m very hungry for this fight,” Cornish said. “We’ve both beaten what has been put in front of us, no more, no less. My KO record is building because I’ve found my power now and I know I will cause him more problems than everyone else he’s boxed, combined. We’re a step up in class for each other. I know that I am the underdog, but I would not be here if I didn’t believe I could beat him and beat him convincingly.

“If I wanted to fight him for the money, I would wait until next year when I would be 26-0 and the fight might be for more than one belt. I am ready now and I’ll prove it on Sept. 12. I know what I have to do. I am not looking forward to the camp because I know how hard I have to work to be ready for this fight, but I will put that work in and more because that’s the only way I know how to train

“I could’ve found Gary 20 more wins no problem, but he wanted this fight and he’s so excited,” said Tommy Gilmour, Cornish’s promoter. “Gary has been accused sometimes of fighting patsies but it’s never been the case. Because the way he goes about his job, he has made them look ordinary.

“Yes, it would be an upset, but Gary has never lost. He doesn’t know what it feels like to lose, and he doesn’t want to. If Anthony doesn’t KO Gary inside one or two rounds then people will ask questions of him. All the pressure is on him, but don’t underestimate Gary.”

“I didn’t feel great in the first round. I got up from two flash knockdowns though and recovered well. The kid could punch very well,” said Frampton. “The ring canvas was very soft. I couldn’t get up on my toes and that’s my best attribute. I got up and showed courage. I came back and won most of the rounds and gave excitement.”

Frampton continued, “I wanted to win by knockout. It didn’t happen. I’m disappointed, but I’ll re-evaluate and move on; onwards and upwards. He hit me low so many times, but you’ve got to deal with that and carry on and that’s what I did.”

“I definitely won the fight, I was much more effective,” said Gonzalez. “I want a rematch and I’m happy to do it in his hometown. I’ll take whatever fights are best for me either at 118 or 122.”

“The ref overreacted to the low blows, I was just doing my body work,” Gonzalez continued. “I’m not a dirty fighter, I play by the rules and this was disappointing. He’s a good fighter but I’m the best he’s ever faced.”

Arreola continued, “I know if I get Deontay (Wilder), I’d be in much better shape and a lot better prepared. Not that I wasn’t prepared for Kassi, but he came here with a good fight and was prepared.”

“I’m not happy with the decision,” said Kassi. “I feel that I won every round of the fight. I showed tonight I was the better fighter. I take nothing away from Chris. I’ve been his friend for years. People don’t know me, so I just wanted to show the world I could do it. I proved that I belong in the heavyweight division. I showed my heart. I‘ve been training hard for many years and I showed it tonight.”

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, WBO Middleweight champion Andy Lee will defend his crown against Billy Joe Saunders on September 19 in Limerick, Ireland.

“I’ve dreamed of fighting here,” Lee said. “As soon as I won the world title, I wanted to defend it here. This is a global event, and I’m proud to put Limerick on that stage, and to bring an event like this to my city is an honor and goes some way to repay the people who have supported me.”

“I’m fighting one of the best middleweights in the world,” Lee said of Saunders. “He’s the British, Commonwealth and European champion. He’s undefeated, he’s waited his time, and he will come in with a spirited challenge. But I’ve got to hold on to my belt.

“I’m looking forward to putting on a great show at Thomond Park. I take my hat off to Saunders for coming to Ireland, my home, as I know what it’s like to fight away from home for years, and this is going to be a very special night for me.”

Carl Froch retires

Carl Froch
Former Super Middleweight champion Carl Froch announced his retirement according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“I’m incredibly proud of what I have achieved in boxing, but now is the right moment to hang up my gloves,” Froch said. “I have nothing left to prove, and my legacy speaks for itself.”

“Carl Froch should be remembered for the fighter that he is, someone that never ducked anyone, that gave the paying public value for money every single day of the week,” said Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, who promoted the final 11 fights of Froch’s career. “I’ve learned a lot being around him. He’s an inspirational guy, and he’s not someone that has come from the Olympic background and been given a platform to start on. He’s grafted for every single penny he’s earned and every bit of success he’s had, and for that you have to give him ultimate respect.”

In announcing his retirement, Froch, nicknamed “The Cobra,” also announced he would join Britain’s Sky Sports as an analyst. A subscriptions network in the United Kingdom, Sky Sports televises many of the sport’s biggest fights through its exclusive contract with Matchroom Boxing. Froch fought his biggest fights on Sky Sports or its pay-per-view arm, Sky Box Office.

“Sky Sports is the home of boxing and has followed me throughout my career,” Froch said. “I can’t wait to join the team and help bring fans the best fighters, the best contests and the best analysis. Nothing can replace the thrill of stepping into the ring, but with Sky Sports I’ll be doing the next best thing.”

Said Barney Francis, managing director of Sky Sports, “Carl retires as a legend of British boxing, a true champion, and we are delighted that he will be joining Sky Sports. As the home of boxing in the U.K. and Ireland, we can’t wait for Carl to provide viewers with his insight and expertise and help take our coverage to the next level.”

“He has a lot to offer the sport,” Hearn said of Froch. “He has been a wonderful ambassador for British boxing all over the world, and he should be celebrated for that. He’s never conducted himself in a bad way. He’s always been a positive role model, and I feel he can give back a lot to boxing, and he’s given a lot already.”

Chudinov breaks nose; title defense postponed

WBA Super Middleweight champion Fedor Chudinov suffered a broken nose and his July 24 title defense with Frank Buglioni has been postponed according to Dan Rafael of espn.com.

“This is a real gutter, and I’m bitterly disappointed,” Buglioni said. “It’s frustrating to know that I have to wait a little longer until I get to Chudinov, but the main thing is I will get him. I would question, though, how Chudinov broke his nose if he was wearing the correct head protection with bars to protect his nose. My training has been perfect up to now and so is the weight, so it’s such a shame this has happened now.”

“It’s a real shame that Fedor has suffered this injury with only two weeks to go until the fight, but this is boxing, and injuries happen,” Warren said. “It doesn’t make it any easier on Frank, who has been training his heart out in Ireland, but he will still fight on the show against a new opponent, and Fedor is locked in to fight Frank next.”

Said Vlad Hrunov, Chudinov’s promoter, “Fedor is devastated to have suffered this injury so close to the fight, as he was looking forward to coming to England and defending his world title for the first time. When Fedor has recovered, we will come to England and honor our obligation and fight Buglioni.”

Collazo Cut

Thurman of Clearwater, FL is now 26-0 with 21 knockouts. Collazo of Brooklyn, NY is 36-7.

KEITH THURMAN

“I felt good in there. I’ve been saying I’m an evolutionary fighter and I showed it tonight. I’ve always had power, but tonight was champ versus champ boxing.

“My team is happy and I’m very happy with my performance. I’m looking to continue this incredible streak. I’m 26-0. If you can beat me then beat me.

“He caught me with a left hook uppercut hybrid shot in the fifth and knocked out almost all of my wind. It was an excellent shot by Luis. I endured like a champion though.

“We trained hard for this camp. Luis Collazo, I want to give it up to him. All respect. He’s a great veteran. He came and he fought hard. We kept picking our shots, giving him a little bit of power every round and we broke him down.

“I beat this fighter and I can beat any fighter.

“This is great for me to pull this off at home. There was lots of pressure and hype. I gave it my best and I came out with the win.

“We want anybody that we can get at the top of the welterweight division; Mayweather, Pacquiao, Porter, Khan, Bradley, Maidana.

“Thank you so much to Tampa Bay, St. Pete and all my home fans here in Florida. I’m going to continue to do you all proud.”

LUIS COLLAZO

“I was trying to set up body shots any way I could. I saw him moving to the left and was trying to catch him just right. I wish I had more time in that round.

“The second cut on the top of my right eye was the worst. I couldn’t really see and was constantly wiping the blood away.

“If I would have come out of my corner again I probably would have gotten caught with some unnecessary shots, and I didn’t need that.

“I want to fight again for sure. Whoever my team and Al Haymon put in front of me I’ll fight. I’ll take any welterweight.

“This was about the fans tonight. I’m glad I could come down to Tampa and give a great fight.

“Thanks to my fans for all the love and support. Sorry for letting you all down tonight, but I want to fight again so we decided not to continue.”

Nelson of Cleveland is now 24-2-1 with 14 knockouts. Harrison of Detroit is 21-1.

WILLIE NELSON

“I was confident and relaxed tonight. I wanted to take him into deep waters and that’s exactly what I did.

“I’m very happy the whole world got to see me tonight. This is where I belong and I’m just looking to start getting my shots and collecting titles.

“There’s really no specific person that I want next. I’ll take anyone in the 154 lbs division. The only person I won’t fight is Terrell Gausha because we’re so close.

“My coach said to dip down and throw a right hand on top. And he buckled, so I threw another right hand. It was a left uppercut that started the combination and then the right hand.

“I was really just taking my time and being patient. I know I should have not worried about it and just let my hands go. The plan was to take him into deep water, that’s pretty much why I was relaxing, but I got the job done.

“Keep watching me. I’m always the underdog and I embrace it. I took some big punches tonight from Tony (Harrison) and proved my chin.”

TONY HARRISON

“I was pacing myself, but also trying to push it when I could.

“When I went down it was because he hit me behind my head and then when I got up I was looking at my team.

“I let the anxiety get to me. I felt the anxiousness to knock him out, got reckless and got caught with a shot. I felt like I was winning the whole fight with the game plan but I switched it up.

“I lost to a fighter that I shouldn’t have lost to tonight. I was supposed to do better. All props to Willie (Nelson) though.

“All fighters get hit and I’ll be back stronger than ever to get my career back on track.

“I want to thank Al Haymon and ESPN. My head is held high.”
