Giovanni Marquez and Javier Zamarron Score Knockouts Over The Weekend

NEW YORK (October 17, 2023) -Two of Split-T Management’s young prospects were impressive in scoring knockouts over the weekend.

Saturday night in Rosenberg, Texas, Giovanni Marquez remained undefeated with a second-round stoppage over Donte Strayhorn in a scheduled six-round junior welterweight bout.

In round two, Marquez dropped Strayhorn with two right uppercuts. Seconds later, it was a vicious four punch combination that was punctuated by a left hook that put Strayhorn on the deck. Marquez ended things by landing seven unanswered punches that finished the fight at 2:47.

Marquez, 141.3 lbs of Houston, TX is 7-0 with five knockouts. Strayhorn, 140.2 lbs of Dallas, TX is 12-5-1.

Sunday in Milwaukee, junior lightweight Javier Zamarron stopped veteran Rodolfo Hernandez Montoya in the opening round of their six-round bout.

Zamarron was impressive in finishing Montoya off at 1:58 of the opening frame.

Zamarron was fighting in front of the home folks as the Sheboygan, Wisconsin native raised his mark to 6-0 with four knockouts. Montoya of Mexico City is 30-15-1.

8-for-8 Super Middleweight Prospect Darius “DFG” Fulghum signed by Golden Boy Promotions

LOS ANGELES (October 17, 2023) – Undefeated super middleweight prospect Darius “DFG” Fulghum (8-0, 8 KOs) has a perfect 8-for-8 professional career record, stopping each of his eight opponents to date, and he was recently rewarded for his efforts by signing a promotional contract offered by Golden Boy Promotions.

In his most recent fight, his sixth since he started working with 3 Point Management (3PM) this past April, Fulghum knocked out veteran Mexican Alan Campa (18-8, 12 KOs) with a lethal left hook to the liver at the end of the opening round of their October 7th fight in Las Vegas on DAZN. Campa has become a gatekeeper of the super middleweight division having fought two-time world title challenger Jesse Hart, Sergiy Dereyanchenko, Erik Bazinyan and Junior Younan, among the more notables.

The 27-year-old Fulgham, who fights out of Houston, extended his KO streak to eight, but he never goes into a fight looking for a knockout.

“No,” he explained, “I don’t go into a fight looking for a knockout. My style is to break down my opponent. There are expectations from others for me to knockout my opponent. I can’t believe all the hype and rely on my power. My style is to breakdown my opponent in every fight; if the knockout comes, it comes. I don’t think I’m a devastating puncher, but I am extremely skilled.

“I definitely have power, but some guys are more durable than others. I’ve been in with heavy guys (coming down from light heavyweight). I still don’t want to get hit, which will help me later in my career. I haven’t suffered any wear and tear.”

Fulghum’s left hook is a punch he and his trainers have worked hard at developing. It paralyzed Campa, whose face showed how much that one punch hurt him, as he went down to his knees in obvious pain.

“We’ve really practiced that punch to exactly where the right place is,” Fulghum said. “This shot had nothing to do with power, it was about placing it on the liver. I caught him with it while he was throwing a punch. Not that it had that much power, but I felt it in my knuckles. I placed it where it paralyzed him. That shot hurt, you can’t fake it.”

Fulghum is excited to be signed by one of the premier boxing promoters in the world, Golden Boy Promotions, and grateful for the managerial work done by 3 PM.

“I’m extremely excited to be with Golden Boy,” Fulghum commented. “Oscar (de la Hoya) can push me to new heights. He can get me in big fights. Golden Boy has pushed me out there (on DAZN streams) and I’m relaxed fighting in front of people.

“I do have to thank 3 PM. They really saved my career. They’ve done an excellent job and are the most professional people I’ve ever worked with.”

3 PM put Fulghum, who had only fought three times  in more than two years prior to him starting to work with 3 PM, on the fast track and he has excelled, fighting five times this year and displaying improvement in each fight. His last fight was only three weeks after his previous match.

“Fighters fight,” Darius responded to fighting at such an accelerated pace. “This is my job, my career. I have my health, so there’s no reason not to fight (when there’s an offer). I still need to get more experienced to climb the ratings. Why not fight? I’d like one more fight before the end of this year.”

Fulghum’s last two fights were scheduled eight-rounders, but combined they only lasted less than three combined. A 10-round fight is right there for the fast-rising super middleweight from Texas. What’s next?

“I’m not sure,” he concluded. “It depends on the opportunity and whether it’s an eight of ten. My style is built for longer fights. I just need to keep fighting. I’ll take what I can get. Nothing is planned but I want a (scheduled) 10-round fight soon and then fight for a regional belt.”

A licensed nurse in Texas with a degree from Prairie View A & M University, Fulghum was a decorated amateur boxer, ranked No. 1 in the USA as a heavyweight, despite fighting as a super middleweight as a pro. He captured top honors at the 2018 National Golden Gloves Tournament and 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Fulghum is working with 3 Point Management (3 PM), a Company based in Los Angeles that has a growing stable of gifted boxers including former world super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (45-1, 30 KOs), NABA Super Flyweight Champion John “Scrappy” Ramirez (12-0, 8 KOs), WBA Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Champion Kareem Hackett (12-0, 6 KOs), super middleweight Cem “Champ” Kilic (17-1, 11 KOs), and heavyweight Zach Spiller (3-0, 2 KOs).

There’s a new sheriff in the super middleweight division and his name is Darius “DFG” Fulghum.

January 13: Christian Mbilli-Rohan Murdock Super Middleweight Showdown Set for Artur Beterbiev-Callum Smith Co-Feature

QUEBEC CITY, Canada (Oct. 17, 2023) – Super middleweight destroyer Christian Mbilli will defend his WBC Continental Americas and WBA International super middleweight titles against Australian contender Rohan Murdock on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada. Mbilli-Murdock will serve as the co-feature to Artur Beterbiev’s WBO/WBC/IBF light heavyweight world title defense against former world champion Callum Smith.

Promoted by Eye of the Tiger and Top Rank, in association with Matchroom Boxing, Beterbiev-Smith and Mbilli-Murdock will be broadcast LIVE on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. PT/7 p.m. PT.

Images of Mbilli’s most recent performances against Nadjib Mohammedi, Carlos Gongora and Demond Nicholson have circulated around the world, positioning him as the #1 contender in the WBC, #2 in the WBA, and #3 in the IBF. Although these performances should open more doors for him in the super middleweight division, Mbilli (25-0, 21 KOs) faces the congestion created by undisputed world champion Canelo Alvarez.

Mbilli said, “Rohan Murdock is a quality opponent with a completely different style from my recent opponents. It will also be an opportunity to gain new fans before my crowning as a world champion. I look forward to starting training camp and can’t wait to be in Quebec on January 13 to wow the crowd!”

Murdock (27-2, 19 KOs) has won three straight bouts since a TKO defeat to Zach Parker, most recently edging Isaac Hardman by split decision in March to win the IBF Australasian super middleweight belt.

Murdock said, “I am very excited about this opportunity and look forward to the challenge. I have been in enemy territory before and learned my lessons. I know what it takes to win at this level, and on January 13, I will emerge victorious.”Additional undercard bouts will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets are on sale now via www.ticketmaster.ca.

INJURY FORCES POSTPONEMENT OF BUATSI VS AZEEZ

The undefeated all-British clash between #1 and #2 world ranked light heavyweights Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez has been postponed after Azeez suffered an injury in his final training session.

The friends turned rivals were set to meet this Saturday October 21 in a hugely anticipated bout at The O2 with London bragging rights and a shot at world honours on the line.

Doctors have ruled Azeez unable to compete due to a back injury. Further details on Saturday’s event, including ticket information, and a revised date for Buatsi-Azeez will be communicated shortly. All tickets will automatically remain valid for the rescheduled main event and a full refund will be made available for anyone not able to attend.

“I’m devastated for this to happen on fight week,” said Azeez.  “It still hasn’t sunk in. I’ve never had to withdraw from a fight in my career before. I want to apologise to all the fans, especially those travelling to the fight. I am also extremely sorry to my opponent Joshua Buatsi, to my promoter and to everyone involved who has worked so hard on this date. I hope this fight can be rescheduled as soon as possible.”

BOXXER founder and CEO Ben Shalom said, “This is a big shock but everyone at BOXXER is working very hard to ensure we provide clarity for all fighters, teams and most importantly the fans as soon as we can.

“I know that Dan would do anything to be in the ring on Saturday night and for this to happen at this stage is devastating. This is a huge fight for British Boxing, but the health and safety of our fighters must come first. My heart goes out to Dan and Joshua, who have both completed tough camps, and to the fans, with more than 10,000 having made arrangements to come on Saturday.

“We will provide an update on the rest of the card and communicate a revised date for Buatsi-Azeez as soon as possible.”

WORLD’S GREATEST PROMOTER DON KING HAS PUT TOGETHER SO MANY TITLE BOUTS, HE’S GOING TO HAVE TWO EXTRAVAGANZAS ONLY IN AMERICA 92 CELEBRATIONS—SATURDAY, NOV. 4 AND SATURDAY, DEC. 2 AT CASINO MIAMI JAI ALAI

MIAMI, FL (October 15, 2023)—The World’s Greatest Promoter, Don King, was mixing and matching title fights and suddenly found himself with so many action packed fights that he has decided to split them off into two boxing extravaganzas on Saturday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 2 at the Casino Miami Jai Alai.

King is going to celebrate his recent 92nd birthday, but now he’s going to do it over two exciting and title ladened boxing cards.  “It’s going to be a November and December to remember,” said King.

King will spotlight the WBC Cruiserweight Championship featuring the top two contenders in Noel Mikaelian and Ilunga Makabu on Nov. 4th and the two Cincinnati kids—Adrien Broner and Chris Howard will battle it out for the “People’s Champion” Welterweight bout on Saturday, Dec. 2.

King, who recently turned 92 years of age, has invited O’Jays founder and lead singer Edward Willis Levert, to celebrate the Nov. 4th card and King’s birthday.   Levert, King’s dear friend, has volunteered to sing the national anthem and be a part of King’s Only in America 92 Celebration with the three national anthems of boxing—Give the People What They Want, Backstabbers and Money Money Money.

“I want to thank owner Phil Ruffin and general manager Daniel Licciardi for their support in allowing us to have two super nights of boxing at their Casino Miami Jai Alai,” said King.  “The Only in America 92 Celebration” extravaganza will be like no other and it will encompass two exciting nights of championship boxing.”

The Nov. 4th card will have three co-feature title fights headlined by the 12-round battle for the WBC Cruiserweight vacant title as the number one ranked fighter, Mikaelian (26-2, 11 KOs) of Miami, FL via Armenia taking on the number two ranked fighter and former champion Makabu (29-3, 25 KOs) from Johannesburg, South Africa via the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Makabu, who lost his title to Badou Jack as he was stopped in the 12th round, is hoping to regain his belt after Badou Jack relinquished the title.

UNIFIED IBF AND WBO MINIMUMWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION YOKASTA VALLE TO DEFEND TITLES AGAINST FORMER TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION ANABEL ORTIZ AS GOLDEN BOY FIGHT NIGHT ON DAZN MAIN EVENT

CARTAGO, COSTA RICA (October 13, 2023) – Unified IBF and WBO Minimumweight World Champion Yokasta “Yoka” Valle (29-2, 9 KOs) will return to her home country of Costa Rica to defend her world titles against former two-time World Champion of Mexico City, Anabel “Avispa” Ortiz (33-5, 4 KOs) in a 10-round match. The world championship event is scheduled to headline the Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN show on Saturday, November 4, live from the Polideportivo de Cartago in Costa Rica and broadcast on DAZN

In a quick turnaround, Yokasta Valle will be returning to the ring after a well-fought unanimous decision victory against Maria Santizo last September 16. Valle has made eight successful defenses of her IBF belt and her fight against Ortiz will mark her third defense as a unified champion.

“I feel extremely happy to defend my titles again in my home country of Costa Rica with my people who I know are anxiously waiting for my return to fight,” said Yokasta Valle. “To know that I will hear them scream ‘Yoka! Yoka! Yoka!’ motivates me even more. This fight will not be the exception, especially fighting against a Mexican boxer who will enter the ring aggressively. Anabel Ortiz is a great fighter who I highly respect. I’ve been waiting to fight her for years, she is a former world champion with a lot of experience, she has defended her titles many times, and she has the desire to become World Champion yet again. I am ready for November 4!”

Former Champion Anabel Ortiz held the WBA World Minimumweight World Title several years and made 12 successful title defenses. She was last seen in October 2022 also against Maria Santizo on a Golden Boy Fight Night card.

“I am really happy to fight in another country, Costa Rica, the home of a highly respected World Champion,” said Anabel Ortiz. “I was surprised and full of enthusiasm when I received the news that I would be fighting Yokasta. It’s been a year since I’ve been able to fight, and there’s nothing more motivating than knowing you have an opportunity to fight a world championship.”

More information on the undercard will be announced in the coming weeks.

SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT SUPERSTAR DAVID BENAVÍDEZ DUELS TWO-DIVISION CHAMPION DEMETRIUS ANDRADE HEADLINING SHOWTIME PPV® SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25 IN PREMIER BOXING CHAMPIONS EVENT

LAS VEGAS – October 12, 2023 – Undefeated two-time super middleweight world champion David “El Monstruo” Benavídez will defend his Interim WBC Super Middleweight Title against unbeaten two-division world champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade headlining a SHOWTIME PPV on Saturday, November 25 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Benavidez vs. Andrade is one of the most compelling matches in the super middleweight division, pitting two undefeated boxers with world championship pedigrees and intriguingly combative and difficult styles to solve, as Benavidez is a come-forward, hard-nosed warrior, while Andrade is a master technician of the sweet science.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing, are on sale now and available through AXS.com.

“Saturday, November 25 is going to be a holiday feast for boxing fans, with high-stakes matchups from top to bottom, all headlined by one of boxing’s most dangerous stars in David Benavídez taking on his most accomplished foe to date in Demetrius Andrade,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “This will be another night that promises start to finish fireworks on SHOWTIME PPV and live in the boxing capital of the world in Las Vegas.”

“Just like David Benavidez, Demetrius Andrade is a fighter nobody wants to face, so it’s very exciting that these two bogeymen of boxing will be facing each other on November 25,” said Sampson Lewkowicz of Sampson Boxing. “I expect Demetrius to come with his best because of the huge opportunity that will await the winner of this fight. I give David Benavidez all of the credit for once again proving that he will fight anyone at any time. He is a true champion and this will be another great fight.”

“Benavidez vs. Andrade is a career-defining matchup of two of the most avoided and skilled fighters in boxing whose desire to be great and will to win should push them both to be at their best on Nov. 25,” said Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports & Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. “This event continues a torrid run of big events on SHOWTIME PPV and will include an undercard of competitive, compelling fights that have become the standard for SHOWTIME PPV events.”

The 26-year-old undefeated Benavídez (27-0, 23 KOs) returns after besting longtime rival Caleb Plant via unanimous decision in a SHOWTIME PPV slugfest from March. Benavídez became the youngest-ever 168-pound world champion at just 20-years-old when he defeated Ronald Gavril by split decision for the vacant WBC title in 2017. A Phoenix-native who now lives and trains in Seattle, Washington, Benavidez has stamped his place in the super middleweight division with knockout power in both hands and improving ring savvy with each fight. When he was 15 years old, Benavídez went from weighing 250 pounds to a boxing prodigy under the watchful eye of his father and trainer, Jose, Sr., and his brother and veteran contender Jose Jr., as he famously held his own in sparring against middleweight champions Gennady Golovkin and Peter Quillin as a teenager. Benavídez rode a string of six straight knockout victories heading into the bout against Plant, including KOs of former world champions Anthony Dirrell and David Lemieux.

“I’m really excited to come back again and fight on pay-per-view,” said Benavidez. “Andrade is a slick fighter, but I’m the bigger, stronger and better boxer. I know the kind of fight that fans expect from me, so I’m putting in the work every day so that I can step into the ring on November 25 and go for the knockout. I’m coming to show everyone why I’m ‘El Monstruo’ at 168 pounds.”

A 2008 U.S. Olympian from Providence, Rhode Island, Andrade (32-0, 19 KOs) captured world titles at 154 and 160-pounds with sublime precision punching and defensive prowess as he fights for the second time at 168 pounds. The 35-year-old first captured a 154-pound title with a 2013 victory over Vanes Martirosyan, winning another belt at the weight class by defeating Jack Culcay in 2017, before moving up to middleweight. Andrade won a dominant decision over Walter Kautondokwa in October 2018 to win a vacant world title at 160 pounds, before putting together a string of five consecutive title defenses. Andrade debuted at 168 pounds in January, dropping Demond Nicholson twice on his way to a shutout unanimous decision. Before turning pro, Andrade was a prolific amateur, winning the World Amateur Championship once and the U.S. Amateur Championship twice, while racking up victories against pro champions Keith Thurman, Daniel Jacobs, Shawn Porter and Austin Trout.

“I’m having a great training camp and I can’t wait for November 25,” said Andrade. “I expect myself and David Benavidez to bring our best on fight night and give the fans a memorable matchup. I have the tools and ability to beat anybody, and I’ll win this fight because of the confidence I have in my skills.”

WBA orders Goulamirian-Dorticos

The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee ordered the bout between Super Cruiserweight Champion Arsen Goulamirian and his mandatory challenger Yuniel Dorticos.

The pioneer organization gave a 30-day period to negotiate the bout, which began this Tuesday, October 10, 2023 and will end next November 10. Both parties received the formal notification signed by Carlos Chávez, president of the championships committee of the organization.

According to Championship Rule C.11, the champion must defend the title against the official contender every nine (9) months from the date he became the champion. In Goulamirian’s case, his last mandatory defense was November 11, 2022 and his next mandatory championship fight should have been before August 11, 2023.

On the other hand, WBA rule C.13- WBA Fighting Limitations, states that the champion cannot fight a boxer who is not the official challenger within sixty (60) days before the mandatory defense period expires.

In case both parties do not reach an agreement or any of them refuses to sign the contract, the WBA may call for a Purse bid under the WBA rules.

SHEERAZ-WILLIAMS UNDERCARD: GWYNNE SET FOR EUROPEAN TITLE TILT

THE QUEENSBERRY NEWCOMER Gavin Gwynne will fight for the vacant European lightweight championship at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday December 2 in support of the big middleweight showdown between Hamzah Sheeraz and Liam Williams, live on TNT Sports.

Tickets for Sheeraz vs Williams on Saturday, 2 December at the Copper Box are on sale now available from: ticketmaster.co.uk.

Gwynne (16-2-1, 4) will take on the veteran unbeaten Italian Emiliano Marsili (42-0-1, 16) for the EBU title following his signing of a multi-fight promotional deal with Frank Warren and Queensberry.

The 33-year-old, who joined the professional ranks in 2016 and became Welsh champion just over 12 months later, became holder of the Lonsdale belt in April 2022 following victory over Luke Willis before twice defending against fellow Welshman Craig Woodruff, with the first meeting scored a draw.

A pivotal fight for the Merthyr Tydfil-born star came when he upset the odds to defeat home fighter Sean McComb in February 2021, overwhelming the Irishman into a seventh round retirement to win the Commonwealth title. This followed unsuccessful challenges for the British title against Joe Cordina and James Tennyson.

Marsili, the 47-year-old southpaw, first won the vacant European title back in 2013 via a second round stoppage of the previously unbeaten Luca Giacon and subsequently made four successful defences of the belt. He won the vacant title back in 2022 with a points success over Frank Urquiaga and last fought in December of last year, recording a second round stoppage.

In 2012, Marsili travelled to the Liverpool Olympia and stopped home favourite Derry Mathews in the seventh round to win the IBO world lightweight title.

Also at lightweight, knockout artist Sam Noakes (11-0, 11) will defend his WBC International Silver title at the Copper Box, with his iBox Gym teammate Pierce O’Leary (13-0, 7) making a defence of his WBC International super lightweight championship belt.

Raven Chapman (7-0, 2) is scheduled to make a third defence of her WBC International featherweight title.

Cruiserweight talent Oronzo Birardi (6-0, 5) from Mainz in Germany will fight over eight rounds, with super lightweight Sonny Liston Ali (6-0) and Featherweight Umar Khan (7-0) in action over six.

“This is another bumper card for the fans following up on the Magnificent 7 show up in Manchester a couple of weeks before,” said promoter Frank Warren.

“It is a strong line-up of fights with a couple still to be added and I am delighted to welcome Gavin Gwynne to our ranks and get him going with a fully deserved European title shot against remarkable opponent in Emiliano Marsili, who is undefeated at the age of 47 after 43 fights at a high level.

“Our iBox Gym brigade is out in force with Sam Noakes and Pierce O’Leary all set for big fights, plus Raven Chapman with a defence of her WBC belt ahead of very significant fights next year.”

Tickets for Sheeraz vs Williams on Saturday, 2 December at the Copper Box are on sale now available from: ticketmaster.co.uk.
