VENOMOUS ARTHUR SHOWS SUPERIORITY AS THE KING REIGNS IN BOLTON

‘King’ Lyndon Arthur returned to winning ways as he showed the Channel 5 audience what they had been missing. After controlling proceedings from the first bell Arthur showed his extra spite as he meticulously broke down a tough Walter Sequeira, to eventually finish his Argentine opponent off in the sixth round.

Under the bright lights in Bolton, it was a professional job done by Arthur as he showcased his superior skill and strength. The jab, the power, and the variety of his work put Sequeira in waters he simply could not swim in. On his debut Wasserman Boxing fight night, it was the perfect performance to start of his journey with the promotion that will see him continue to make his way to the top of the light heavyweight division.

The eyes turned to the North East during the night, as ‘Trojan’ Troy Williamson bullied David Benitez to a sixth round stoppage to avoid the banana skin and set up a huge northern clash with ‘PBK’ Josh Kelly. The British Super-Welterweight title will be on the line in December against Kelly, in what promises to be one of the biggest fights to come to the North East.

Gavin Gwynne retained his British Lightweight title with an unbelievably entertaining draw against Craig Woodruff. The momentum of the bout often changed from one fighter to the other, and it ultimately became too close for the judges to try and call a winner. Both men shone as the two welsh fighters represented their country and sport in a fight that split the crowd regarding who had won, but unanimously captivated all.

TAKAM GIVES MAKHMUDOV FITS IN MONTREAL THRILLER

Montreal, Canada (September 17, 2022) — Montreal fight fans were treated to an excellent heavyweight main event on Friday night when CARLOS TAKAM (now, 39-7-1 28KO’s), traveled to Montreal to face hometown favorite, NABF Champion and #6 world rated heavyweight (WBA, WBC), ARSLANBEK MAKHMUDOV (now 15-0 14KO’s) at the Montreal Casino for the WBC Silver, NABF and NABA heavyweight titles.

The heavy handed Makhmudov expectedly started fast and furious, pushing Takam across the ring and into the corner before attempting to drown him with combinations. As the true veteran Takam is, instead of taking the onslaught or further damage, he took a knee and the remaining time left in the count to regain his composure.

Takam began to find his footing with an overhand right and stiff jabs to the body. Makhmudov continued to try and land a bombs away one-two, but Takam was resilient and would not waver. Both men dished and took some vicious punishment throughout the ten round main event.

As the fight carried on, Takam began to give Makhmudov fits, making him uneasy at times and put him on his heels for arguably the first time in Makhmudov’s career.

Heading into the 7th round, Takam was in control, getting his punches off first and caused much hesitancy for Makhmudov – barreling towards a possible major upset. However, late in the round Takam winged a right hand, throwing himself out of position against the ropes. Makhmudov capitalized when he landed a right hand that dropped Takam. A pivotal moment in the fight turned a Takam round, into a 10-8 Makhmudov round. Raising from the count to the sound of the bell indicating the close of the 7th round, Takam and Makhmudov entered rounds 8-10 where either fighter could turn the tide of the captivating heavyweight battle.

Takam found success with massive overhand rights and sweeping left hands to the body, buzzing Makhmudov on a few different occasions. As the final bell rang, Takam became the first to take the powerful Makhmudov to the judges scorecards, but fell short by decision, with the 7th round knockdown proving to be the pivotal difference. (97-91, 96-92, 96-92).

CEO of Star Boxing, JOE DEGUARDIA, had this to say about the fight, “Carlos once again proved that he belongs at the elite level of the heavyweight division. Makhmudov came into the fight with high praise and Carlos matched him. Carlos constantly thrills fans with fantastic action fights and will test any fighter in the division. Every time out Carlos earns the respect of the crowd and boxing fans across the world. Congratulations to Team Makhmudov on the victory.” ?

TROY WILLIAMSON TO DEFEND BRITISH TITLE AGAINST JOSH KELLY

LONDON, SEPTEMBER 17 – Troy Williamson and Josh Kelly will collide in a British title fight that fans have been craving.

Williamson puts his super welterweight crown on the line against former amateur star Kelly in December, on a massive night of boxing in Newcastle.

The British champion overcame David Benitez in Bolton this evening to rubber-stamp the title showdown, with the date and venue to be confirmed in due course.

The mouth-watering clash pits North East rivals against each other with Darlington’s Williamson defending his British belt for a second time, against Sunderland hero Kelly.

Probellum fighter Williamson is one of the most exciting fighters in British boxing after engaging in back-to-back Fight of the Year contenders and his clash with Kelly promises to be a domestic dust-up you do not want to miss.

The ‘Trojan’ is on a roll after title wins over Ted Cheeseman and Mason Cartwright while ‘Pretty Boy’ Kelly has been rebuilding his career after a punishing defeat to David Avanesyan last year.

Williamson was left deeply unimpressed with his rival’s last performance and has promised to wear down and stop the 2016 Olympian.

Troy Williamson said: “I’m so happy Josh has agreed to fight me because this is a monster of a fight for British boxing and it will be shown live to a huge television audience.

“But Josh, mark my words, you have made a huge mistake because you have never faced anyone like me, and I will grind you down and stop you.

“Your Olympic pedigree will count for nothing when the going gets tough and I drag you into deep waters.”

Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum, said: “There is no question about Troy Williamson’s status as one of Britain’s most exciting fighters because he delivers drama by the bucket load. “And this brilliant British title fight with Josh Kelly promises to be another Fight of the Year contender to add to Troy’s collection. “I was ringside to see Troy get up off the floor and defeat Cartwright on points at Probellum Throwdown and I know this will surpass that fight for action and entertainment.”

ARTHUR: “TAKE HIM OUT IS THE PLAN”

The anticipation builds as ‘King’ Lyndon Arthur (19-1, 13 KOs) trained in front of the media yesterday ahead of his clash against Walter ‘El Yacare’ Sequeira (25-9-1, 17 KOs) as part of a huge night of free-to-air boxing on Saturday September 17 at the University of Bolton Stadium, live on Channel 5 from 9:30pm.

Lyndon Arthur had the opportunity to put himself in front of the media yesterday afternoon, as the Manchester fighter showed plenty of spite during the open workout. To no one’s surprise, ‘King’ Arthur came in looking in top condition, but his sharp mindset is what is filling his trainer, Pat Barrett, with the most excitement ahead of fight night.

“Everything has been great during camp, I couldn’t have asked him to do anything better,” said trainer, and former British and European champion, Barrett . “He’s as mentally prepared for this fight as he is physically prepared, and when his mindset is in the right place he’s a dangerous man.”

There is no overlooking the job that needs doing on Saturday at the University of Bolton Stadium, live on Channel 5 from 9:30pm, but Arthur’s ambitions remain sky-high. Passing the test of Sequeira could mean a potential British title fight, or even looking further on and throwing himself into contention for international honours.

“Where he was going before was for the WBO title, he’s developing fantastically and he’ll be back in that position in no time,” said Barrett. “You’re about to see the best version of Lyndon there has been. Fiery attitude, extra spite in everything he does; he may be known for being calm but that composure is going to be paired with venom.”

Arthur has his eyes set on any and all opponents in the division, and Sequeira is just another obstacle in the way of his aspirations. He shares the same belief of fellow-Mancunian Ricky Hatton, who spoke highly of Arthur and what he can achieve. Rejuvenated and ready, Arthur 2.0 is coming according to the man himself, who cannot wait to go.

“Training has gone well, we’re here now, it’s just time to fight,” said Arthur. “I’m at that stage now where I just want to weigh in and get down to business.”

“I’ve been out the ring for a period, and I’m just looking forward to getting back in there and putting a performance in. Take him out is the plan, then move on to whatever is next.”

Arthur is immediately thrown back into the public eye performing on screens across the nation with the event live on Channel 5 from 9:30pm, but this is only the beginning for the ‘King’ as he goes in pursuit of reigning over the light heavyweight division. In typically composed mood, he is ready for the journey ahead which starts by handling Sequeira and the threat of his 17 knockout wins on his record.

“The dream is to win a world title, that’s where I’m at when looking at the bigger picture. In regards to the next fight, Dan Azeez is looking to fight and he’s got the British title so I wouldn’t mind that fight,” said Arthur. “We’ll see what happens though, I need to do the job on Saturday first then anything is possible,” he said.

“In regard to Saturday though? Be prepared. Knockout by Lyndon Arthur.”

Wasserman Boxing presents Lyndon Arthur’s (19-1, 13 KOs) explosive return to the squared circle as he looks to tame the tough Argentine, Walter Gabriel Sequeira (25-9-1) at Light Heavyweight. A fiery all-Welsh British Lightweight title affair will also feature between current champion Gavin Gwynne (15-2, 3 KOs) and Newport’s Craig Woodruff (12-6, 4 KOs), as well as “Trojan” Troy Williamson (18-0-1, 13 KOs) putting on the battle armour as part of a huge night of free-to-air boxing on Saturday September 17 at the University of Bolton Stadium, live on Channel 5 from 9:30pm.

ROCKY FIELDING ON CANELO’S ‘PRESENCE’ AND PREDICTS GGG FIGHT RESULT

LONDON, SEPTEMBER 16 – Rocky Fielding says fighting Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is as mentally punishing as it is physically.

Liverpool’s Fielding put his WBA world super middleweight title on the line against the Mexican in December 2018 in New York, but Canelo was in destructive mood at Madison Square Garden that night and stopped Rocky inside three rounds.

Probellum fighter Fielding recalls the relentless “pressure” and “presence” of Alvarez and knows he was taught some valuable lessons about fighting at the very highest level of the sport.

And the 35-year-old is backing Canelo to come out on top in his trilogy clash with Gennady Golovkin this weekend.

“This was my first experience of fighting at that level,” Fielding told Probellum.com.

“And with Canelo, it was all about his front foot control and wherever you were in the ring, he could cut you off.  It was also like he was there before you.  He brought that pressure and that presence.

“At that level you must put your shots together at the right time and there is absolutely no switching off.  At the levels below, you can get away with mistakes but not against him.

“I did catch Canelo but he just shook it off and I thought to myself: ‘Bloody hell, it’s only the second round!’

“The first body shot he caught me with was like a swipe across the stomach which, in sparring, you would normally take.”

Canelo was moving up from middleweight to challenge Fielding, having beaten Golovkin in a rematch earlier in the year.

“I knew it was going to be tough night; he was coming up in weight and was fresh and strong,” he added.

“There was a 10lbs rehydration clause in the contract and while I wouldn’t normally put on much more weight than that, mentally it was a bit of a challenge because for the first time, I stepped off the scales and was having to think about how much I was putting in my body.

“‘Can I have this?’  and ‘Can I have that?’ before we weighed in again the next morning.”

Canelo and Golovkin controversially drew their first fight before the Mexican was given the nod in the rematch.

Fielding expects another entertaining fight but believes the younger Alvarez, who is undisputed super middleweight champion, to prevail.

“I think Canelo will beat GGG,” Fielding predicted.

“It will be a good fight, but I think Canelo has the better speed, reflexes and shot selection.

“Golovkin still carries his punch power, but Canelo has taken it over the course of two fights.  From round four, I expect them to stand in the middle of the ring and have it, with Canelo winning on points.”

LEON BUNN AND PADRAIG MCCRORY WILL COLLIDE FOR IBO WORLD TITLE ON OCTOBER 22 IN FRANKFURT!

Light heavyweight contender Leon Bunn will have to wait an additional three weeks before finally receiving his long-awaited world title shot! After his original opponent, Daniel Blenda dos Santos, had to pull out of the fight due to an ankle injury, the highly anticipatedevent presented by Wasserman Boxing in association with Probellum at the Fabriksporthalle in Frankfurt, Germany, has been rescheduled for October 22. Tickets bought for the original date of October 1 will remain valid.

A new opponent for 28-year-old local hero Leon Bunn has already been found: He will now face unbeaten power-puncher Padraig McCrory from Ireland for the vacant IBO World light heavyweight championship. McCrory, called “The Hammer“, is unbeaten in 14 fights, with 8 big wins by way of knockout, and was scheduled to fight for the EBU-EU title on October 22 in Belfast. However, when the opportunity to fight for a world title came along, he immediately jumped at it.

The undefeated Leon Bunn is unmoved by the change of opponent and date, saying, “I’m glad that we found a new opponent so fast. I have great respect for Padraig McCrory and I certainly won’t overlook him. However, my goal is set in stone: On October 22, I will become champion of the world in front of my fans in Frankfurt – and nobody will stop me! I can’t wait to enter the ring that night.“

Padraig McCrory does not lack confidence either, as he is predicting a knockout win on October 22: “I’m relishing the opportunity to become the IBO World champion, fighting in Leon Bunn’s backyard adds an extra fire in the belly and will make the rewards of winning this title so much sweeter. I’ve seen plenty of Leon Bunn, he’s a really good boxer, but I don’t think he can take my power for 12 rounds.“

Promoter Kalle Sauerland is expecting an exciting and action-packed showdown in Frankfurt: “After dos Santos’ injury, we knew that we had to postpone the event in order to find a suitable opponent for Leon. We did! It’s a big, big chance for Padraig McCrory, he can become world champion. He’s unbeaten, he’s powerful, he has that Irish mentality and all of that makes him a very dangerous opponent. Leon has to be at his absolute best to win the world title in front of his fans on October 22.“

Jamie Conlan, a former world title challenger himself and manager of Padraig McCrory, is confident in his fighters’ ability to return to Ireland with the IBO belt around his waist: “We where planning and preparing for the EU title but this opportunity came up and Pody jumped at it. I totally believe going into the Lions Den will bring out the best in Pody McCrory. Leon is a very good, accomplished boxer and Pody has knockout power in either hand, both guys come in undefeated with great confidence and I believe it will be a very entertaining fight.“

Tickets for the IBO World light heavyweight championship between Leon Bunn and Padraig McCrory presented by Wasserman Boxing in association with Probellum on October 22 at the Fabriksporthalle in Frankfurt, Germany, are on sale now and can be bought via Eventim.

SHOWTIME SPORTS® COMMEMORATES HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH WITH COLLECTION OF HISTORIC FIGHTS IN BOXING AND MMA FEATURING COMBAT SPORTS’ BEST HISPANIC AND LATINO FIGHTERS

NEW YORK – September 15, 2022 – SHOWTIME SPORTS is honoring Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 with a slate of historic and consequential fights featuring some of the best Hispanic and Latino boxers and mixed martial arts fighters from the network’s comprehensive library. Some of the biggest blockbusters in the network’s industry-leading history of televised combat sports are now available on all streaming and on demand platforms for SHOWTIME subscribers in recognition of the incredible impact that Hispanic and Latino fights have made on combat sports.

SHOWTIME is also scheduled to showcase a battle of Mexican all-action fighters live on Saturday, October 8 when rising star Sebastian Fundora defends his Interim WBC Super Welterweight Title against Carlos Ocampo in a tripleheader from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. One week earlier, Brazilian superstar Patricio Pitbull will defend his BELLATOR Featherweight Title against Adam Borics Saturday, October 1 in the main event of BELLATOR 286 live on SHOWTIME on a telecast that also features Juan Archuleta facing off against Peruvian Enrique Barzola in a bantamweight bout.

The collection of fights from the SHOWTIME library honoring Hispanic Heritage Month includes the 2005 Fight of the Year, and perhaps one of the top fights this century,   between Diego Corrales and José Luis Castillo on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® (SCB) that ended with Corrales dramatically stopping Castillo in the tenth round after Corrales had been dropped twice in one of the greatest rounds of boxing ever. The lightweight unification bout is considered a boxing masterpiece, a non-stop thriller that left observers searching for adjectives to best describe the courage, skill and willpower on display.

Also featured are the first two installments of the heated rivalry between Mexican warriors Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez that appeared on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING in March and August of 2007. The fights delivered non-stop action with Vazquez retiring on his stool following the seventh round after absorbing punishment and sustaining a broken nose in the first fight. Vazquez evened the score five months later in Ring Magazine’s 2007 Fight of the Year in another barnburner. With blood streaming down his left eye, Vazquez dropped Marquez with a massive hook, causing the bout to be stopped and returning the 122-pound title to Vazquez’s possession.

Fans will also see Patricio Pitbull dramatically hold off a late rally from Mexican American Emmanuel Sanchez to retain the BELLATOR MMA featherweight title at BELLATOR 209 in November 2018 via decision in an action-filled bout in which both fighters had their moments. Pitbull showed his championship class in the final round when he hurt Sanchez with a left hook that captured the momentum after Sanchez stormed back in the fourth round and had Pitbull fatigued and on the defensive. Undaunted by the onslaught, Pitbull had saved his best for the fifth round as he became the winningest fighter in BELLATOR history with the victory.

Also included is the slugfest between Cuban stylist Erislandy Lara and Mexican brawler Alfredo Angulo for a vacant 154-pound title on June 8, 2013, on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING. Lara had to climb off the canvas twice before hurting Angulo with a left hand in the tenth round that caused Angulo to turn his back and the referee to immediately stop the action. Equally as shocking was the upset perpetrated by Josesito Lopez, also known as the Riverside Rocky, against Victor Ortiz in a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on June 23, 2012. Trailing on all three judge’s scorecards, Lopez, who took the fight on short notice, stopped Ortiz after nine rounds when Ortiz complained of a broken jaw and couldn’t answer the bell for the tenth. The improbable win led to Lopez securing a big-ticket match with superstar Canelo Alvarez three months later on SHOWTIME.

The complete list of fights will be available as part of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on SHOWTIME platforms beginning Thursday, September 15.

TICKETS FOR ABU DHABI’S HISTORIC BIVOL VS. RAMIREZ WBA WORLD TITLE FIGHT ON SALE NOW

Boxing fans across the Emirates, the wider Arabian Gulf, and around the world can now secure seats for the UAE’s first-ever World Title fight – the historic WBA Light-Heavyweight Title showdown between Dmitry Bivol and Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez in Abu Dhabi.

Organisers Matchroom Boxing and DCT Abu Dhabi have revealed tickets for the hotly anticipated bout at Etihad Arena are now on general sale with high demand from local, regional and international fans expected for Russian champion Bivol’s eye-catching title defence against Mexican challenger Ramirez.

The November 5 bout sees Bivol step into the Abu Dhabi ring on the back of defeating pound-for-pound superstar Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas to retain his World Title and extend his immaculate undefeated record to 20 fights. Ramirez will face Bivol having won all five of his fights at Light-Heavyweight after the hard-hitting southpaw moved up a weight class in 2019.

Tickets for the unprecedented event, which will include a stacked undercard, start at Dh 295, with limited VIP packages including ringside seats. All tickets are on sale at www.etihadarena.ae.

The historic fight night is the first event in Abu Dhabi’s new Champions Series, a landmark partnership between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Matchroom Boxing. And with both main event fighters putting their unblemished Light-Heavyweight records on the line, something has got to give, according to Eddie Hearn, Managing Director of Matchroom Boxing.

“We have seen a huge appetite for major boxing events in the region in recent years, so we were determined to bring something special to the UAE and boxing’s first world title fight in Abu Dhabi is certainly something special,” said Hearn. “The UAE capital has a growing reputation for hosting some of the world’s biggest sporting events and the Champions Series, through our partnership with DCT – Abu Dhabi, is only going to further enhance that reputation.

“Given the magnitude of this huge fight, with two undefeated boxers, a title on the line, and global interest in what promises to be an enthralling encounter, it’s safe to say we expect Bivol-Ramirez to sell out very quickly,” he added.

The Champions Series aims to provide fight fans around the globe with opportunities to experience world championship boxing in a new environment. Demonstrating global confidence in the emirate as a tourism destination, Hearn has already indicated the inaugural Champions Series event will be the first of many world-class boxing events to be held in the UAE capital in the future.

Bivol and Ramirez will lock horns just weeks after the biggest stars in basketball and the UFC grace Yas Island’s Etihad Arena as the UAE capital hosts the NBA Abu Dhabi Games 2022 and UFC 280: OLIVEIRA VS MAKHACHEV.

SEBASTIAN FUNDORA VS. CARLOS OCAMPO VIRTUAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

CARSON, CALIF. – September 14, 2022 – Unbeaten super welterweight sensation Sebastian “The Towering Inferno’’ Fundora and former title challenger Carlos Ocampo previewed their showdown for Fundora’s Interim WBC Super Welterweight Title during a virtual press conference Wednesday before they meet live on SHOWTIME on Saturday, October 8 from Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California headlining a Premier Boxing Champions event.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast will see top middleweights Carlos Adames and Juan Macias Montiel square off for the Interim WBC Middleweight Title in the co-main event, while IBF Junior Bantamweight World Champion Fernando Martinez meets former champion Jerwin Ancajas in a highly-anticipated 12-round rematch to open the telecast at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing, are on sale now and can be purchased at axs.com.

One of the sport’s most exciting fighters, Fundora returns to the ring after emerging victorious in an instant Fight of the Year contender in April on SHOWTIME, as he rose from the canvas to stop the hard-hitting Erickson Lubin. He will look to solidify his status at 154 pounds against the streaking Mexican contender Carlos Ocampo, who has won 12-straight bouts since a 2018 defeat to unified welterweight world champion Errol Spence Jr.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday:

SEBASTIAN FUNDORA

“I’m very excited. I was in the main event last time, but I’m really the headliner this time and I’m even more excited to show off in front of my fans in Southern California. I’m just ready to fight.

“I showed the fans what I was made of in my last fight. It wasn’t really what I learned. My goal was to display myself and what I’m capable of for the fans. I really wanted to show who I am in this division. I’m serious about becoming world champion.

“I think that Ocampo is a strong Mexican fighter like me, so of course he’s going to come to bang. This is the perfect fight not just for the fans in Southern California, but for everyone watching.

“I’m used to the venue fighting there before. If you’re not bringing action, the fans will tell you right away. They’ll fight in the stands themselves. It’s a good crowd and I’m excited to put on a show.

“Before I got knocked down against Lubin, that round was all me I felt. I got hit with a good punch, I took a knee and just needed to get my energy back. The round right after that I was back to being me.

“I can fight anywhere. I can fight in my backyard, it’s the same thing for me. I’m there to focus on the fight itself and on putting on a great show for everyone.

“I want to fight for the title and I feel like I deserve that. I’m the WBC mandatory and of course I have to get past Ocampo first. But our goal is to fight for the title.

“I’ve been ready for the title, but we have to stay busy. I have to take hard fights like this to continue to grow. Ocampo is a ranked fighter and he’ll help me get to where I want to be.

“When it comes to the ring I feel like my Mexican blood comes out. I’m learning more about the Mexican culture and I’m excited to face another Mexican fighter. Two Mexicans headlining on SHOWTIME is great for Southern California.

“I’m just focused on my career, not what the champion is doing. I know that it’s going to take care of itself. We want to keep fighting and stay busy so that when the challenge presents itself, we can take it with no problem.

“We’ve been watching Ocampo and we’ve noticed that he’s been on a long win streak. Of course we’re not going to let it continue. We know he’s going to bring it and hopefully we can give the fans another great fight.”

CARLOS OCAMPO

“I feel great and I feel ready. I’m extremely confident in the training camp that I’ve been having in this fight. I’m in great shape and prepared to get in the ring.

“I thought Sebastian fought really well against Lubin. It was a dynamic and entertaining fight. I enjoyed watching it for sure. But I think he fits my style really well. With two Mexican fighters inside the ring, you’re going to see fireworks.

“We’re both fighters who like to get inside and we’re not afraid to exchange and brawl. We give the fans what they want and I know they’re going to be happy with what they see on October 8.

“I want to show people that I’m hungrier than ever. I’m here to win the title and I’m going after it with all my might. I want to grab that title and bring it back home to Mexico where it belongs.

“I made a rookie mistake in the Spence fight. I got careless at the end of the first round and I promise that it won’t happen again. I’m moving forward, but I’ve become a better fighter because of it.

“The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is that I need to be more cerebral and that I have to think through things more. I learned that being careless for one second can cost me. It was a tough lesson to learn, but I won’t make the same mistake again.

“I just work hard and keep my mind set on only one thing. That’s the world title. It’s my obsession and it’s what I want more than anything in the world.

“I’m definitely feeling underestimated. It’s funny how one mistake four years ago can shape the perception that people have of me. I’m a completely different person and you’re going to see how much I’ve matured both physically and mentally. We’re going to give you a great fight that you won’t want to miss.

“Being an underdog definitely motivates me and everyone is going to see how well I’ve trained for this fight. My entire focus is on October 8 and I haven’t thought about anything that could happen after that.

“This is going to be a spectacular card from top to bottom. You’re going to see great clashes and a real war in the main event. Make sure you tune in.

“I feel stronger and faster at super welterweight. This weight just fits me like a glove and I’m going to show everyone why on October 8.”

Jason & Andrew Moloney Bring Australian Thunder to Devin Haney-George Kambosos Jr. 2 Melbourne Undercard

MELBOURNE, Australia (Sept. 14, 2022) — Many of Australia’s top fighting talents will enjoy the Down Under spotlight underneath the highly anticipated rematch between undisputed lightweight world champion Devin “The Dream” Haney and former champion “Ferocious” George Kambosos Jr. on Saturday, Oct. 15 (Sunday afternoon, Oct. 16 local time) at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

In the co-feature, two-time world title challenger Jason “Mayhem” Moloney takes on Thai veteran Nawaphon Kaikanha in a 12-round final eliminator for the WBC bantamweight world title.

Former world champion Andrew Moloney, Jason’s twin brother, battles Dominican contender Norbelto Jimenez in a 10-rounder for the vacant WBO International junior bantamweight title. The Moloney Brothers grew up in Mitcham, a suburb of Melbourne, and will have the home soil advantage.

Haney-Kambosos 2 will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT. Undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+.

Jason Moloney (24-2, 19 KOs) fell short in his two shots at the bantamweight title, dropping a split decision to Emmanuel Rodriguez in 2018 and succumbing via seventh-round stoppage to Naoya Inoue in 2020. Since the Inoue setback, he has won three in a row, including a stunning third-round knockout over Aston Palicte on the Kambosos-Haney 1 undercard in June. Kaikanha (56-1-1, 46 KOs) has won 20 consecutive fights since a 2017 TKO loss to Juan Hernandez Navarrete for the vacant WBC flyweight world title. He has been campaigning at bantamweight for more than three years, winning 12 straight by stoppage. Kaikanha has never fought outside of Thailand and will make the nine-hour flight to fight Moloney in hostile territory.

“This fight is one final steps towards me achieving my dream and becoming world champion,” Jason Moloney said. “Nawaphon Kaikanha is a very experienced and capable opponent who has had 58 professional fights and only one defeat. To have this fight in Melbourne, at Rod Laver Arena, in front of all my family and friends, is amazing and gives me even more motivation. Thank you to my manager, Tony Tolj, Top Rank, and everyone involved for making this fight happen. I will grab this opportunity with both hands and earn my shot at becoming the WBC world champion.”

Andrew Moloney (24-2, 16 KOs) held the WBA 115-pound world title briefly until Joshua Franco dethroned him in June 2020, but three fights against the American standout introduced him to an international audience. Moloney has kept active since a decision defeat to Franco last August, going 3-0 and rising the junior bantamweight rankings. Like his brother, Andrew Moloney made the most of his homecoming on the Kambosos-Haney 1 bill. He busted the right eye of Alexander Espinoza, who retired on his stool following the second round. Jimenez (31-9-6, 16 KOs) is a two-time world title challenger who is unbeaten in four fights, a run that includes a spirited draw last December against four-weight world champion Donnie Nietes. He has authored a remarkable career turnaround, as he began his career 2-8-1. Since that low-water mark, Jimenez is 29-1-5 over the past 11-plus years.

“I’m hoping that an impressive win over Jimenez earns me a shot at one of the world champions next,” Andrew Moloney said. “This is exactly the type of fight I’ve been wanting, to show the improvements I have made and that I am ready to become world champion again. I’m coming to put on the best performance of my career.”

The undercard also features two of New Zealand’s world class boxing prospects, Olympic bronze medalist David Nyika (4-0, 3 KOs) and heavyweight puncher Hemi Ahio (19-0, 14 KOs), who are both returning to Melbourne after appearing on Kambosos-Haney 1 undercard. Nyika, who is campaigning at cruiserweight, is scheduled to fight in a six-rounder. Ahio looks for his sixth consecutive knockout in an eight-rounder.

Devin Haney Promotions-promoted prospect Amari Jones (7-0, 7 KOs) is set to go for knockout number eight in a six-round junior middleweight bout.

Promoted by Top Rank, Devin Haney Promotions, DiBella Entertainment, Ferocious Promotions, Duco Events, and TEG Sport, Haney Kambosos 2 tickets are on sale now via tegsport.com.au.

November 1: Kenshiro Teraji-Hiroto Kyoguchi Light Flyweight Unification Battle Headlines Loaded Quadruple-Header from Japan LIVE on ESPN+

(Sept. 14, 2022) — The light flyweight division takes center stage Tuesday, Nov. 1, as two championship fights with three world titles at stake headline a loaded card from Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

WBC champion Kenshiro Teraji attempts to unify titles against WBA king Hiroto Kyoguchi in the main event. In the co-feature, Puerto Rico’s WBO champion, Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez, will defend his strap versus Japanese contender Shokichi Iwata.

Teraji-Kyoguchi, Gonzalez-Iwata, and undercard action will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 7:30 a.m. ET/4:30 a.m. PT.

“The Amazing Boy” Teraji (19-1, 11 KOs) is an eight-year pro who won the WBC world title in May 2017. He made eight defenses of that crown until a stunning 10th-round knockout defeat to Masamichi Yabuki last September. Less than six months later, Teraji exacted revenge with a third-round knockout over Yabuki to regain his title. Kyoguchi (16-0, 11 KOs) is a two-weight champion who was the IBF 105-pound ruler until he vacated that belt to move up to light flyweight. Since winning the WBA light flyweight crown on New Year’s Eve 2018 against Hekkie Budler, he has made four title defenses. He is coming off June’s eighth-round stoppage over Esteban Bermudez, which ranks among the year’s best title fights.

Gonzalez (26-3-1, 14 KOs) fell short in his first attempt at a world title in 2019 against Kosei Tanaka. He fulfilled his championship destiny last October when he edged Elwin Soto by split decision. Gonzalez defended his WBO title in June with a unanimous decision against Filipino upstart Mark Anthony Barriga. Iwata (9-0, 6 KOs), from Tokyo, won the Japan Boxing Commission, OPBF and WBO Asia Pacific titles en route to earning his first world title shot.

In other action scheduled on the ESPN+ stream:

Junto Nakatani (23-0, 18 KOs) vs. Francisco Rodriguez (36-5-1, 25 KOs), 10 rounds, junior bantamweight — WBO flyweight champion Nakatani tests the junior bantamweight waters against Mexican action star Rodriguez, a former unified 105-pound world champion.

Shuichiro Yoshino (15-0, 11 KOs) vs. Masayoshi Nakatani (20-2, 14 KOs), 12 rounds, WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight Title — Yoshino is coming off a technical decision over former world champion Masayuki Ito. Nakatani rebounded from last year’s knockout loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko with June’s first-round blitzing of Harmonito Dela Torre.

ONE-ON-ONE WITH DENZEL BENTLEY

DENZEL BENTLEY HAS revealed that he put himself through the torment of reading the social media ‘comments’ following his defeat to Felix Cash in April of last year.

Battersea boy Bentley was brutally parted from his treasured British title belt at York Hall, the same venue that plays host to the first defence of his second coming as British champion against Marcus Morrison this Friday, live on BT Sport.

In the first of a new series of special features as part of the Unibet Lowdown, Dev Sahni introduces ‘One-on-One’, which tells the life story of the charismatic middleweight. The exclusive Bentley episode will be posted live at 6pm on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old, who recaptured his title in a compelling clash with the previously unbeaten Linus Udofia in May, talks us through his forthcoming challenge from Morrison, potential future matches against promotional stablemates Hamzah Sheeraz and Nathan Heaney, while looking back on being left in Ghana by his parents at the age of eight. He also discusses growing up as a young black man in London, the feeling of being stereotyped and being stopped by the police since he was 11 years old.

“I feel I am a mad realistic guy and I know that was a bad loss,” reflected Bentley on his Cash collapse. “Two of my friends pulled up to the venue and, after I tried to ghost them and look the other way, they asked if I was alright and then said ‘don’t watch that, man’.

“Slowly the whole family started to slide up and I was literally trying to slide out. After that I was just lying on my bed one day and I posted something on Instagram. I was going through the comments and I had people telling me to go back to the amateurs and learn this and that.

“I was burned and wanted to reply, but I thought ‘nah, I will be here all day’. Going through it, some people were telling me I would be back and some were full-on rinsing me. After I went through Instagram I was like ‘ok, cool, let’s check Twitter’.

“I tapped in my name, saw all the abuse, then went through the fight and the abuse was crazy. It was mad. I don’t know if it was upsetting, but it bothered me.

“I got to the last of about 300 comments and I was like ‘it’s done now’, there is nothing now that is going to push my emotions, whether it is positive or negative.

“You could say I have taken emotional strength from it and now when I see things I can laugh.”

To view One-on-One in full, click HERE from 6pm on Wednesday

BRITISH MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION Denzel Bentley (16-1-1, 13 KOs) will defend his title against Marcus Morrison (24-5, 16 KOs) at York Hall on Friday September 16, live on BT Sport.

Tickets for Bentley vs Morrison at York Hall on Friday, 16 September are on sale now, available exclusively from ticketmaster.co.uk.

HATTON: “LYNDON IS WORLD CLASS”

Boxing comes to Greater Manchester this Saturday 17 September, when ‘King’ Lyndon Arthur (19-1, 13 KOs) returns to put his name into title contention once again by making a statement against Walter Gabriel Sequeira (25-9-1) at The University of Bolton Stadium.

Coming to bring the heat, “Trojan” Troy Williamson (18-0-1, 13 KOs) will be looking to pass the test and set up a massive North East fight, whilst British champion Gavin Gwynne (15-2, 3 KOs) looks to retain his beloved lightweight title against Craig Woodruff (12-6, 4 KOs) as part of a huge night of free-to-air boxing live on Channel 5 from 9:30pm.

To mention Manchester boxing in a sentence without the addition of Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton would be like breathing without air. Former holder of the IBF, IBO, WBA and The Ring Light Welterweight belts, alongside his WBA Welterweight title, mark him and his achievements down as one of British boxing’s greatest ever careers.

Born at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, Hatton would go on to proudly succeed whilst flying the flag for his city. Notoriously followed with his army of supporters, it is not only fighting for the people, but being one of the people, that makes you a Manchester fighter.

“Manchester’s always been a great fighting city, even before Ricky Hatton came along. You know we had Carl Thompson who was the world cruiserweight champion. We had Steve ‘The Viking’ Foster from Salford who was the Commonwealth champion, and fought Winky Wright for the world title, just as Ensley Bingham did who was the British light-middleweight champion,” said Hatton.

“I think if you look at all the boxers from Manchester then you see they’re all good people. Down to Earth people, no arrogance in them either, because they wouldn’t relate or get the support from the people of Manchester. We turn out so many great fighters, and that’s why we’ve always had some so much great support.”

That support lead Hatton on to fight the greatest of fighters in one of the division’s toughest eras. Things didn’t quite go to plan against Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, but it gave ‘The Hitman’ the opportunity to bounce back and go on to beat Juan Lazcano straight away.

Manchester’s Lyndon Arthur suffered his first loss last time out, as his second fight with Anthony Yarde resulted in the score standing at one win each. Hatton believes that getting back into action is exactly what Arthur needs to reach his potential at hitting the highest of heights in the sport, starting this Saturday live on Channel 5 from 9:30pm.

“Lyndon is world class and just needs to go into this fight remembering that. Yes he suffered a loss against a good opponent, that’s boxing, but now he can move on and start challenging for those big names and titles,” said Hatton.

“When you’re knocking everybody out comfortably, and everyone’s shaking your hand, things can be a bit too easy at times. Legacies are built on bouncing back from defeat, and I believe Lyndon’s got all the attributes to not only bounce back but propel forwards at a greater speed.”

SERRANO REAPS TITLE BONUS

BOXING SUPERSTAR AND seven-weight world champion Amanda Serrano admits she was taken by surprise when she received the news that IBF champion Sarah Mahfoud was prepared to accept a unification fight that will take place in Manchester on September 24.

The Puerto Rican southpaw – based in Brooklyn – who holds the WBC, WBO and IBO world featherweight titles was set to oblige a WBO mandatory against Yamileth Mercado in August at Madison Square Garden.

The proposed show was ultimately cancelled, leaving the 33-year-old without a date, resulting in her management team hooking up with Queensberry to place ‘The Real Deal’ on the blockbuster Joe Joyce-Joseph Parker heavyweight card at the AO Arena.

Much to her delight, the undefeated Dane and IBF world champion Mahfoud chose to share the Manchester stage with her for a unification match.

“It is thanks to my team, the fight on August 6 fell off and I said ‘I need a fight, I need a fight’,” said Serrano, recounting events. “They got me on this card and I am super-honoured to be on this card and honoured to have the opportunity to unify in my division.

“They are both tough fights, Mercado and Mahfoud, one was my mandatory with the WBO and one is a champion. Of course, you always want to fight the champions and I have been looking for this fight for a couple of years now, for her and the WBA, the two belts I am missing to become undisputed.

“I couldn’t believe that she took the fight, I was like ‘yes!’. Everything happens for a reason, the timing was great and she decided she wants to fight now, so let’s do it. It is in Manchester, my first time fighting over there and the UK fans are amazing and I just hope they come out and support the fight.”

Serrano admits that she has not intently re-watched her last fight, the epic clash with Katie Taylor that took place in New York back in April and delivered the best possible statement on behalf of women’s boxing.

“I kind of have, I have dibble-dabbled, but I always just see my mistakes, which is a good thing so you can fix it in the next fight.

“It was just a great night, a great event and I didn’t want to ruin it because we put on a hell of a show, both of us. There was blood, sweat, tears in the ring that night and the fans came out and supported us.

“So I just wanted to leave it like that. I just wanted to remember it the way I remember it,” she added, before pointing out that she does not consider the split decision reverse as a blot on her record.

“You know what, I feel like you never lose, you learn and I feel like I never lost that fight. I am coming back to my weight class and I am back to where I feel comfortable at, at 126lbs, where I am strong and where I am champion.

“I am unifying and I feel like I am back in my division right now.”

Tickets for ‘Nowhere to Run’ – the heavyweight clash between Joe Joyce and Joe Parker on 24 September at the AO Arena, Manchester being shown exclusively live on BT Sport Box Office – are priced from £40 and are on sale now exclusively from Ticketmaster.co.uk.

‘Nowhere to Run’ – Joe Joyce (14-0, 13 KOs) v Joseph Parker (30-2, 21) in a heavyweight collision between No.1 and No.2 with the WBO takes place on September 24 at the AO Arena, Manchester. The WBO International and Intercontinental championship belts, along with the WBC Silver title, will be on the line.

Also featuring is the IBO world super featherweight championship fight between the champion, Michael Magnesi (21-0, 13) from Italy and Belfast’s British champion Anthony Cacace (19-1, 7).

Seven-weight world champion and Puerto Rican superstar Amanda Serrano (42-2-1, 30) will unify her WBO, WBC, and IBO featherweight titles with the IBF championship held by the unbeaten Sarah Mahfoud (11-0, 3) from Denmark.

British welterweight champion Ekow Essuman (17-0, 7) will make a third defence of his title and bid for ownership of his Lonsdale belt when he takes on mandatory challenger Samuel Antwi (14-1, 6) and the IBO International middleweight championship will be at stake when Nathan Heaney (15-0, 6) goes in with Jack Flatley (19-2-1, 4).

Raven Chapman (3-0, 2) takes a big step up in class against former IBF world champion Jorgelina Guanini (10-4-2, 1) for the vacant WBC International featherweight championship.

British super middleweight champion Mark Heffron (28-2-1, 22) will fight over eight rounds, with Kirkby super lightweight Callum Thompson (4-0, 1), Liverpool middleweight James Heneghan (7-0), Batley super lightweight Amaar Akbar (3-0) and Thetford cruiserweight Tommy Fletcher (1-0, 1) completing the card.

Split-T Management Fighters Get Three Wins on Friday

Three Split-T Management fighters got victories on Friday night.

In an entertaining scrap that produced a lot of contact, Joseph Adorno won a 10-round unanimous decision over Hugo Alberto Roldan to win the IBF Latino Junior Welterweight title at Ballys Atlantic City.

In round two, Adorno landed two counter lefts to the side of the head, for which Roldan’s glove touched the canvas.

Roldan continued to press the action throughout the fight, but Adorno was on point with check hooks and body shots. Both guys had swelling under their eyes.

Adorno landed 105 of 339 punches; Roldan was 93 of 419.

Adorno, 139.5 lbs of Bethlehem, PA won by scores of 95-94 scores and is now 17-1-2. Roldan, 140 lbs of Argentina is 21-1-1.

“I feel like all the hard work I put in since I was a little kid is finally starting to pay off and coming all together,” said Adorno, who took the fight with Roldan on four weeks’ notice after Shinard Bunch withdrew from the main event. “I did lose a little love for boxing for a while. But I’m proud. He was an awkward fighter. I took the fight on short notice. He’s a higher weight class than me. I’m a 135-pounder. All the hard work pays off. I went through a lot in the ring tonight, as any fighter does. I hurt my hand. I got hit with a headbutt that almost closed my eye. But I overcame it all. I got what it takes. I can hang in there with the top guys. Give me a couple more fights and I’ll be ready for anybody.”

“You learn a lot from a fight like this,” Adorno said. “In boxing, you’re going to face guys with different styles. Not everybody is going to be the same. Weird guys like Roldan make you look ugly. But you have to get through it, listen to your corner and adjust. That’s what we did tonight. He came out with that aggressive style because he knew he had to throw a lot of punches to win the fight. I understand that. He’s not a power-puncher so he had to throw punches to have a chance. I’m just glad we got the victory.”

Adorno is promoted by GH3 Promotions.

In Montreal, Canada, Mary Spencer remained undefeated with a first round stoppage over former world title challenger Cynthia Lozano in a junior middleweight bout to capture the WBA International and WBC Silver Super Welterweight Titles.

Spencer rocked Lozano in the opening seconds, and then dropped her with a left hook. With Lozano hurt, Spencer landed a big flurry of punches that forced the stoppage just 63 seconds into the contest.

Spencer of Montreal is now 7-0 with five knockouts. Lozano of Monterrey, Mexico is 9-2.

Spencer is promoted by Eye of The Tiger Management.

In Plant City, Florida, junior middleweight Marques Valle remained undefeated by taking out veteran Benjamin Whittaker in the opening round of their junior middleweight contest.

Valle, 23 years-old of Wesley Chapel, Florida is 6-0 with six knockouts. Whittaker of San Antonio, Texas is 15-10.

Valle is promoted by Pro Box Promotions.

INJURY RULES WOOD OUT OF LARA WORLD TITLE DEFENCE; SHOW GOES AHEAD WITH HUGHES VS. GALAHAD TITLE CLASH NOW HEADLINING

A torn bicep suffered in sparring has ruled Leigh Wood out of his WBA Featherweight World Title defence against Mexico’s Mauricio Lara at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham on Saturday September 24.

The show will go ahead, with Rossington’s Maxi Hughes defending his IBO Lightweight World Title against Sheffield’s former IBF Featherweight World Champion Kid Galahad in a huge Yorkshire derby at the top of the bill, live worldwide on DAZN (excluding Australia and New Zealand).

‘Maximus’ (25-2-2, 5 KOs), who is undefeated since November 2019, landed the IBO crown with a shutout points win over dangerous Mexican Jovanni Straffon in September last year before making a successful first defence against Ryan Walsh in March.

Galahad (28-2, 17 KOs) will be looking to return to winning ways up at Lightweight after suffering a shock knockout loss to Spanish veteran Kiko Martinez in what was supposed to be a routine maiden defence of his IBF title at the Sheffield Arena in November 2021.

On a stacked undercard, Denaby Main’s Terri Harper (12-1-1, 6 KOs) leaps up in weight to challenge Scotland’s Hannah Rankin (12-5, 3 KOs) for her IBO and WBA Super-Welterweight World Titles in an intriguing England vs. Scotland clash.

Former IBO and WBC Super-Featherweight World Champion Harper lost her titles at the hands of the USA’s Alycia Baumgardner on the undercard of Galahad vs. Martinez last year before landing the WBA Intercontinental Lightweight Title against Yamila Belen Abellaneda in March.

Rankin captured gold by decisioning Maria Lindberg over 10 rounds at the Tottenham Hotspur FC Banqueting Hall in November 2021 before defending her belts against Mexico’s Alejandra Ayala at The SSE Hydro, Glasgow in May.

Birmingham Heavyweight prospect Solomon Dacres (4-0, 1 KO) meets Dominic Akinlade (9-3-1, 4 KOs) over ten rounds, former Team GB Olympian Cheavon Clarke (2-0, 2 KOs) looks to maintain his perfect start to life in the Cruiserweight division against Argentina’s Marcos Nicolas Karalitzky (7-5-2, 2 KOs), Alnwick Welterweight talent Cyrus Pattinson (4-0, 2 KOs) has his fifth fight in the paid ranks, new Matchroom Super-Welterweight signing Junaid Bostan (2-0, 2 KOs) aims to make it three knockouts from three fights, Mansfield Super-Bantamweight prospect Nico Leivars (2-0-1) returns to action after his technical draw in Sheffield and Wigan Lightweight Rhiannon Dixon (5-0) fights for the first time under the STN Sports banner.

“We’re gutted to lose such an explosive headliner in Leigh Wood vs. Mauricio Lara so close to fight week but unfortunately Leigh suffered a torn bicep during sparring and there’s no way he can get in the ring against such a dangerous opponent with only one arm,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “I’m pleased to confirm that our show at the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham on September 24 will go ahead with the IBO Lightweight World Title clash between Yorkshire rivals Maxi Hughes and Kid Galahad now topping the bill.

“There’s more World Title action on the undercard with Hannah Rankin defending her WBA and IBO Super-Welterweight belts against former Super-Featherweight World Champion Terri Harper. Both Hughes vs. Galahad and Rankin vs. Harper are worthy of headlining their own shows and we’ve got some of the best emerging talent featuring on the undercard such as Cyrus Pattinson and Junaid Bostan.”

Ticket refunds are available from the point of purchase until Tuesday September 20.

WILLIAMS: TALKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH IS LIBERATING

Austin Williams has got his career back on track and targeting the big guns at Middleweight – but first, must see off Kieron Conway as he looks to claim back-to-back vacant titles on the undercard of the epic trilogy clash between Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy ‘GGG’ Golovkin at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night (September 17).

The event, presented by Matchroom, Canelo Promotions and GGG Promotions, will broadcast live on DAZN Pay-Per-View in the U.S. and Canada as well as around the world on DAZN (excluding Mexico, Latin America, and Kazakhstan).

TICKETS ARE ON SALE NOW VIA AXS.COM
Williams (11-0 9 KOs) picked up his first title in his last outing in April, blasting Chordale Booker away inside the opening round to pick up the WBA Continental Americas title at Madison Square Garden in New York.

‘Ammo’ now meets Conway for the WBA International title and should improve on his #6 rating with the WBA if he can see off the Briton who appears on his second Canelo Alvarez undercard.

Victory for Williams would be the latest step in a positive return to the ring for the Houston talent after he took time out from the sport in April 2021 to concentrate on his mental health. The 26 year old has made some changes to his training team ahead of, but believes he’s in a great frame of mind in and out of the ring and will seize the chance to impress on a huge platform.

“It is my honor and a dream come true to open up the Canelo vs. GGG III Pay-Per-View telecast,” said Williams. “I will deliver an unforgettable experience and capture my second consecutive title in the most sophisticated way imaginable.

“I fought on a Canelo card before and I got a brilliant reaction to my performance that night, so Eddie Hearn knows that the more energy that is in the place, the more I can use it and give it back to the fans.

“Eddie signed me as a young kid, I was just 22, and they introduced me to the world. Everyone has seen my maturation into a man, and the team understand that you sign kids, and you are watching them grow. You learn every day and you learn what you go through and become a man from it.

“I decided to make a change and go back to my regular team. I learned so much from Kevin Cunningham, it was a great place for me to be at the time with the struggles I went through with my mental health, to be with someone that is very structured.

“Kevin was in the military and a police officer; he’s lived in harsh environments and was the right man to polish me up and taught me a lot about the business. He saw I had the boxing ability and talent, he took another route and taught me the game, how much of boxing is in the mind, because he’s been there, and I was receptive to listening to it.

“I’ve had to prove my loyalty back to me team and show that I wanted to keep my ball rolling at a great pace. I was given the chance to go to south Florida and I always said the best thing for me is a great environment to keep me right in mind, body, and soul. So that was a real blessing, and he came into my life at the right time, and it was a mutual understanding to part ways.

“We all have stuff going on. The brain is so complex you don’t really take time to sit with it and understand it. Boxing is the loneliest sport in the world so we’re dealing with something that’s so high level, putting your life on the line for a living. You are out there to be judged in front of a crowd, your heart on your sleeve and showing your art to the world, and your physical health is attached to that.

“If you don’t learn how to manage that it’s so easy to fall into depression and things like that, so I love when athletes, especially boxers, open up and talk about it because acceptance is the first step to heal anything. People can think pushing things to one side and acting like nothing is wrong is the way to go, but it’s not at all and it pushes you to breaking point.

“It can be liberating, that’s how I feel now, because everybody knows me, to say ‘I’m not perfect’. I’m myself, I trust myself. I know what I need to do next, and I feel the confidence and courage to follow your dreams and be the author of your own book is the scariest thing to do, but the most fulfilling.”

Williams’ clash with Conway is part of a huge night of action in Vegas, topped by the epic trilogy battle between Canelo and Golovkin.

The co-main fight stars Super-Flyweight sensation Jesse Rodriguez defending his WBC World title against Israel Gonzalez, there’s fireworks promised as Ali Akhmedov and Gabriel Rosado will clash for the IBF North American Super-Middleweight title and Diego Pacheco fights for his first belt as he meets EnriqueCollazo for the WBC USNBC Silver Super-Middleweight title.

Three more young talents complete the stacked card, as Marc Castro appears on his fifth Canelo undercard against Kevin Montiel MendozaAaron Aponte mixes it up against Canelo Promotions’ unbeaten prospect Fernando Molina also over eight and Anthony Herrera gets the chance to bounce back to winning ways on the biggest stage as he takes on Delvin McKinley.

All that action leads into the third installment of the classic modern rivalry between Canelo and Golovkin, with the Mexican king putting his undisputed Super-Middleweight crown on the line against Kazakhstan’s reigning WBA and IBF Middleweight ruler in the most anticipated match up of 2022.

TWO SENSATIONAL SHOWDOWNS ADDED TO STACKED WILDER VS. HELENIUS FOX SPORTS PBC PAY-PER-VIEW LINEUP!

BROOKLYN – September 13, 2022 – Two exciting high-stakes showdowns have been added to the jam-packed four-fight FOX Sports PBC Pay-Per-View event headlined by the return of former WBC Heavyweight World Champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder as he takes top-rated Robert “The Nordic Nightmare” Helenius on Saturday, October 15 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The telecast will feature undefeated Cuban sensation Frank Sanchez battling Puerto Rican Olympian Carlos Negron in a 10-round heavyweight duel, while top bantamweight contenders Gary Antonio Russell and Emmanuel Rodriguez meet in a 12-round rematch opening the pay-per-view telecast at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

In the co-feature, former IBF Super Middleweight Champion Caleb “Sweet Hands” Plant faces two-time WBC Super Middleweight Champion Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell in a WBC Super Middleweight Title Eliminator between 168-pound rivals.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by BombZquad Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased through seatgeek.com and barclayscenter.com. Tickets are also available for purchase in-person at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center.

An amateur standout from his native Cuba, Sánchez (20-0, 13 KOs) now trains in California with renowned trainer Joe Goossen. The 30-year-old has remained busy on his rise up the heavyweight rankings, scoring three victories in 2020 as he earned a unanimous decision over Joey Dawejko and stopped Brian Howard and Julian Fernandez. Sanchez caught boxing fan’s attention when he scored a career-best win in October 2021, dropping the previously unbeaten Efe Ajagba on his way to a unanimous decision victory. Sanchez kicked off the New Year with a 10-round decision triumph against Christian Hammer in his last fight.

“Carlos Negron is a dangerous opponent, but I will be ready for whatever he brings. I intend to look for a knockout against Negron to demonstrate to boxing fans that I am both a boxer and a puncher,’’ said Sanchez. “I feel I am the best heavyweight in the world and October 15 will bring me one step closer to the very important goal of becoming mandatory contender for a world title opportunity in 2023.’’

The 2008 Puerto Rican Olympian Negron (25-3, 20 KOs) was scheduled to meet Sanchez on January 1 but had to withdraw from the fight after testing positive for COVID-19. Negron rides a five-fight winning streak into the match against Sanchez, including four wins by stoppage. The 34-year-old bounced back from defeats to Dominic Breazeale and Brian Howard to put together his win streak, which includes a March 2020 knockout over previously unbeaten Robert Alfonso. He scored an eight round unanimous decision over Scott Alexander in his last fight in May 2021. Negron has fought professionally since 2009 and now lives in Miami where he trains alongside Luis Ortiz.

“I know Frank, and I’ve never been a fighter to call any other fighters out or speak of any other boxer, so I don’t know why he asked to fight me,” said Negron. “When my coach told me he wanted to fight me, I didn’t take it personally. I took it like a challenge. It gave me incredible motivation, and now I want to fight him. Let’s see what I can do against good competition. I have always done my best against better opponents. So come October 15, let’s see who’s the better man.”

The 29-year-old Russell (19-0, 12 KOs) originally met the former champion Rodriguez in August 2021, but an accidental clash of heads ended the fight as a no-contest before the first round was completed. The middle brother between WBC Featherweight Champion Gary Jr. and 2016 U.S. Olympian Gary Antuanne, Russell returned to the ring after the Rodriguez bout to earn a decision victory over Alexis Santiago in November 2021. Fighting out of Capitol Heights, Maryland, Russell also owns a decision victory over former world champion Juan Carlos Payano in December 2020.

“I’m glad that Emmanuel and I will get our chance to have a redo on October 15,” said Russell. “Nothing has changed as far as my objective. I’m coming into the ring at Barclays Center to do whatever I have to do in order to finish this fight victorious.”

Fighting out of Manati, Puerto Rico, Rodríguez (20-2, 13 KOs) has also added a victory since his first clash with Russell, knocking out Roberto Sanchez Cantu in March. The 30-year-old won the IBF Bantamweight World Title with a unanimous decision victory over Paul Butler in 2018 and successfully defended it against then-unbeaten Jason Moloney. Rodríguez went on to lose the title to unbeaten champion Naoya Inoue in their May 2019 title bout.

“I’ve been training in Mexico for a long time and away from my family so that I can focus on this fight that will define my future,” said Rodriguez. “Russell is a good fighter who has been avoided throughout his career, but I’ve come to show that I’m on another level. I will win hands down and be back on top of the bantamweight division. On October 15, he’s going to realize that he’s not on my level.”
