LAS VEGAS, NV (August 9, 2022) – Top Rank’s undefeated super featherweight rising star, Andres “Savage” Cortes (17-0, 10 KOs), squares off against Abraham Montoya (20-3, 14 KOs), this Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the Resorts World Las Vegas. Cortes vs. Montoya, an 8-round bout, will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+.
Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs), the former unified and lineal lightweight champion, will face Mexican veteran Pedro “Roca” Campa (34-1-1, 23 KOs), in the 10-round main event. Promoted by Top Rank, tickets starting at $40 are on sale now and can be purchased at Etix.com.
Cortes, who is riding an impressive 3-fight knockout streak, talks about his recent training camp, his matchup with Montoya, and more.
On his recent training camp in Las Vegas:
“This has been one of my better camps. The sparring we got was very tough. I was in there with many different styles, guys that can bang and guys that can box. My strength and conditioning is right on point and I feel stronger going into this fight. These final days of cutting weight will be smooth because of all the hard work I put in this camp.”
On his matchup with Abraham Montoya:
“Montoya is a very tough opponent who has never been stopped. He’s been in the ring with some notable names, so I know he has the mental capacity to fight under the bright lights. I will have to make the proper adjustments to get him out of there. I’m prepared to go the distance, but the goal will be to knock him out.”
On what a win will do for his career:
“A victory against Montoya will put me in position to fight a big name and catapult me into 10-round bouts. The super featherweight division stacked with talent and a win gets me closer to fight them all. In due time I’ll be knocking on the door of a world title shot, which is the ultimate goal at the end of the day.”
On fighting at home in Las Vegas:
“Fighting on this card means a lot to me because I have so many of my family and friends that will be in attendance watching. My last three fights have been knockouts, with the last two being here in Vegas. I looking to keep this knockout streak alive here in my hometown. I want to thank my promoter Top Rank for putting me on this card.”

JUGGERNAUT HITS VEGAS AHEAD OF PARKER CLASH
JOE JOYCE IS now happy amongst the high rollers having taken his training over to Las Vegas to get himself ready for the high-stakes heavyweight collision with Joseph Parker on September 24 at the AO Arena in Manchester which is being shown exclusively live on BT Sport Box Office, promoted by Frank Warren for Queensberry Promotions in association with BOXXER.
Of course, it is highly unlikely that Big Joe will be laying any chips on the Strip, he will be tucked away with his trainer Ismael Salas at the renowned Salas Boxing Academy drilling a game plan to defeat the WBO No.2 ranked New Zealander.
For Joyce, the talking is done for now and his parting shot was a simple ‘”I’ll see you on the other side”.
Tickets went on sale today for this heavyweight blockbuster priced from £40 and can be secured by visiting ticketmaster.co.uk.
There was no shortage of words exchanged prior to Joyce’s departure for Stateside and it is clear that Joyce intends to punish the former WBO world champion for the delays leading up to the fight finally being made.
“I’m so glad this fight has been signed and sorted out, so now I can head to Vegas and start my camp,” he added. “Parker seems ready and he is going to be a tough man to beat.
“There was all the frustration of this being postponed and all the messing about, I’ve been hearing all the ins and outs from my team, but I am happy it is going ahead now. I am taking my frustration out on him.
“Now it is game time and all niceties are put aside. I was sick of hearing about it all and now I just want to get in there and beat him up.
“It will be my toughest fight to date, he can take a shot and he is more well rounded than anyone I’ve faced. He will be a little bit different but I will get the job done, probably in the later rounds.
“I’d love to knock him out or stop him! I’d like my KO-ratio to stay high and keep it going. I don’t want to go to points really.”
Tickets for ‘Nowhere to Run’ – the heavyweight clash between Joe Joyce and Joe Parker on 24 September at the AO Arena, Manchester – are priced from £40 and are on sale now exclusively from Ticketmaster.co.uk.

PRICE IS RIGHT FOR HISTORIC NIGHT OF WOMEN’S BOXING AS OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL HERO FIGHTS IN LONDON ON 10TH SEPTEMBER
LONDON, ENGLAND – (9th August 2022) – Golden girl Lauren Price MBE (1-0) will fight on a historic night of women’s boxing as the Welsh wonder takes on Hungary’s Timea Belik (6-6-0, 2 KOs) at The O2 in London on 10th September, screened live and exclusively on Sky Sports.
Tickets are on sale now viaBoxxer.com, with prices beginning at just £25.
Stylish southpaw Price opened her professional career with an impressive points victory over Valgerdur Gudstensdottir at Wembley back in June.
And the Tokyo 2020 Team GB gold medallist from Newport will be keen to make another emphatic statement of intent to the middleweight division on what will be a defining night of ‘Legacy’ at the iconic venue in London.
Price’s partner and fellow Olympic hero Karriss Artingstall (1-0) will also be out to make it two wins from two on the professional scene when she faces off against France’s experienced campaigner Marina Sakharov (5-16-2, 3 KOs).
The Macclesfield featherweight shone on her debut in Coventry earlier this summer, when she comfortably dispatched Vaida Masiokaite on points.
Fellow former Team GB star Caroline Dubois (3-0, 2 KOs) will bid to continue her meteoric rise towards a future world title shot when she takes on Bulgaria’s seasoned professional Milena Koleva (10-14-1, 4 KOs) in six rounds of lightweight action.
Destined for superstardom, ‘Sweet Caroline’ dazzled in front of a sold-out Boxxer crowd in Bournemouth last week as she celebrated her third professional win inside five months, demolishing Happy Daudi with a clinical, third round TKO finish.
Fight fans will undoubtedly witness something special with Dubois in action, when the Shane McGuigan-trained southpaw displays her dynamite arsenal of shots in her home city.
But she faces a formidable opponent in Koleva who took Katie Taylor to the distance back in March 2017, only to be beaten on points.
Ben Shalom, BOXXER CEO and Founder, said: “We’re proud to announce these three Team GB Olympic heroines joining us to make boxing history on 10th September.
“Caroline was incredible in Bournemouth and is clearly destined to reach the top, but this fight against Milena Koleva will be a tough step up for her against an opponent who pushed Katie Taylor to the limit. I also can’t wait to see Lauren and Karriss in action on the same night. Both have exciting futures and I know they will be keen to steal the limelight with impressive performances.
“Thanks to an incredible summer of the Lionesses celebrating Euro glory and the success of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham there’s a massive feelgood factor around women’s sport and now it’s professional boxing’s time to shine. We couldn’t be any prouder to put on this historic show at The O2.”
Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development at Sky Sports, added: “This truly is history in the making. And adding three super talented and hugely popular Olympians to the mix makes it even better. Caroline has shown why she will be a prospect to be feared, especially with her brilliant display recently in Bournemouth.
“And both Lauren and Karriss are destined for very bright futures – Olympic 2020 medalists and now two of the brightest prospects in British boxing and emerging onto the professional circuit in an era when women’s sport is ascending to its rightful place alongside the men’s game and inspiring a whole new generation of female athletes. I cannot wait to watch all three in action for what will be an unmissable evening at The O2.”
Elsewhere on the undercard, Portsmouth’s Ebonie Jones (2-0-1) faces Spanish featherweight foe Vanesa Caballero (4-15-3), as exciting American flyweight Ginny Fuchs (1-0, 1 KO) travels across the pond to take on Gemma Ruegg (5-4-0, 1 KO).
April Hunter (5-1-0) faces Argentina’s Erica Alvarez (3-6-0), whilst fellow North-East native and rising super-welterweight prospect Georgia O’Connor (2-0) looks to protect her unbeaten start in the professional ranks.
Londoner Shannon Ryan (2-0) makes the short Tube trip across the Jubilee Line from Neasden to North Greenwich as the super flyweight comes up against Spain’s Bucha El Quaissi (3-2-3, 1 KO).
And super bantamweight sensation Sarah Leigmann (4-0, 1 KO) completes a historic all female line-up as the German fighter goes head-to-toe with Swindon’s Bec Connolly (3-15-0).
Over a decade in the making, bitter rivals Claressa Shields (12-0, 2 KOs) and Savannah Marshall (12-0, 10 KOs) headline the most anticipated women’s fight in history in a winner-takes-all undisputed title clash.
Also fighting on this unmissable evening of boxing are some of the best female fighters on the planet in Mikaela Mayer (17-0, 5 KOs) and Alycia Baumgardner (12-1-0, 7 KOs). The American rivals will battle it out in the co-main event for the undisputed super featherweight championship.

San Diego Media Workout: Emanuel Navarrete, Nico Ali Walsh & Hometown Hero Giovani Santillan Prepare for August 20 Card @ Pechanga Arena
SAN DIEGO (Aug 9. 2022) — One of Mexico’s great champions, a hometown hero, and the grandson of a legend will take center stage in San Diego next Saturday, Aug. 20, at Pechanga Arena San Diego.
Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete (35-1, 29 KOs)makes the third defense of his WBO featherweight world title against Mexican countryman Eduardo Baez (21-2-2, 7 KOs), San Diego’s undefeated welterweight contender Giovani Santillan (29-0, 16 KOs) looks to improve to 30-0 against Julio Luna (19-0-2, 10 KOs) in the 10-round co-feature, and Nico Ali Walsh (5-0, 4 KOs) grandson of Muhammad Ali, will see action in a four-round rematch versus Reyes Sanchez (7-2, 3 KOs).
Ali fought at Pechanga Arena San Diego in 1973 — when it was known as San Diego Sports Arena — against Ken Norton in the first fight of their legendary trilogy. Norton broke Ali’s jaw and won a decision in one of boxing’s most storied upsets.
Navarrete-Baez, Santillan-Luna and Ali Walsh-Sanchez 2 will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
Tickets starting at $35 can be purchased at AXS.com.
At Monday’s media workout in San Diego, this is what Navarrete, Santillan and Ali Walsh had to say.
Emanuel Navarrete“He’s a warrior with an imposing, come-forward style. He is intelligent and has good technique. The fight will be difficult in the first six rounds until I figure him out. In the second half of the fight, we expect to be able to connect combinations to the body to weaken my opponent and achieve the victory.” “This has been the best training camp of my career. We started camp in Mexico City, and we finished in Tijuana.” “I’m ready to come back after a long layoff. Sometimes you start getting doubts when you spend so much time away from the ring. But as soon as training camp starts, the positive mentality returns.”
Giovani Santillan “Last time I fought at Pechanga Arena, it was a special experience. I can’t wait to fight in front of the hometown fans again. San Diego has always been my home, and the support I get from my people is truly humbling.”
“Luna is undefeated just like me, and I know neither one of us wants to let go of that ‘0.’”
Nico Ali Walsh
“I am fighting a rematch against the only guy who has taken me the distance, so I need to right that wrong. I have improved so much since then, and I can’t wait to show that in the ring.”
“My grandfather fought in this arena nearly 50 years ago, and I am honored to follow in his footsteps. Continuing his legacy in the ring is something I cherish.”
OMAR FIGUEROA JR. SAN ANTONIO MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES
SAN ANTONIO – August 9, 2022 – Former World Champion Omar Figueroa Jr. held a San Antonio media workout on Tuesday as he nears his super lightweight battle against four-division world champion Adrien “The Problem” Broner Saturday, August 20 live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) from Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla. in a Premier Boxing Champions event.
The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and will feature top 140-pounders Alberto Puello and Batyr Akhmedov squaring off for the vacant WBA Super Lightweight World Championship in the co-main event. Plus, WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Roger Gutierrez defends his title against unbeaten Hector Garcia in the telecast opener.
Tickets for the live event are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.
Figueroa Jr. was joined on Tuesday by his brother, former super bantamweight world champion and current featherweight contender Brandon Figueroa and his father and trainer Omar Figueroa Sr. at the media workout.
Here is what they had to say:
OMAR FIGUEROA JR.
“We grew up kind of poor coming from the Valley. San Antonio was the biggest city that we could get to and enjoy. For us, this was like the maximum. So being able to camp here being so close to home has been a game changer. Obviously, I have my family here as well. I won’t say everything in this camp has gone perfect, because perfection is so hard to acquire, but everything has gone pretty close to perfect. We’re excited.
“I’m just worried about this fight. I’m not looking at anything else. I don’t know how I’m going to feel, physically and mentally. So much has changed in the past year. I’ve gone through so much since I was diagnosed regarding my mental health. It’s been tough. I’ve been doing this for 27 years now. So, I’m really looking forward to this fight.
“The biggest thing for me the past few years has been my mental health diagnosis. After my last fight, I knew there was something wrong. We did everything we needed to do in camp, we prepared right to make sure we were 100%. Everything went wrong in that fight. I started questioning myself and wondering why the heck everything went so bad. I spoke to my doctor and then I was diagnosed with all these mental health issues and that’s when I realized maybe the problem was me all along. I’ve been working on myself so much. I’m just grateful to SHOWTIME and my team and we’re excited to show how far we’ve come.
“Growing up in the Mexican culture, it’s a lot of ‘All, it’s all in your head. It doesn’t really exist.’ So, I had to look into it alone. I didn’t have the support of my family when it came to that. Even now, they still kind of struggle to see that. I feel it’s very taboo to a lot of people. Thankfully, I’m in a position where, having the platform I have, I’m able to shed some light on it and show that we’re all just human. Us boxers may look like we’re invincible, getting punched and cut and fighting through it, but we’re human at the end of the day. I finally took a break and looked inward and started taking care of myself, accepting the fact that I’m human, that I hurt, that I can get anxiety and depressed.
“This camp has shed some light on being vulnerable and how much it helps to allow myself to be human. Now, I talk to my family differently. If I’m having a tough day before I get here to the gym, I’ll talk to my mom or my sister. Or when I’m feeling low, we’ll just embrace. I tell them how much I love them, how much I appreciate them for being here for me. Honestly, being human is one of the best things I decided to do.
“Broner is one of the biggest names in boxing. He likes to put himself out there. He’s also a great example of why mental health should be addressed. He’s kind of out there where, sometimes he’s a little bit crazy and other times he repents for being a little bit crazy. Like I said, we’re humans. That’s one of the things I hope he looks at and tries to help himself when it comes to that.
“Honestly, there was a time when I was a little bit jealous of Broner. He had such an amazing career and, like me, things got to us. As we all know, things haven’t gone the smoothest for us. So, I’m getting the word out about mental health, doing more to bring it to the mainstream and I’m glad my opponent is Adrien Broner because he’s a great advocate for that too. I feel he can make a huge difference if he sheds a little bit of light on it. Other than that, this is a great opportunity and I know it’s going to be a hell of a fight.
“I don’t watch his stuff online and see what he’s doing. Even if he does start trash talking, it’s all part of the show. He’s been through his share of struggles and I can say I honestly respect Adrien Broner.
“I’m not sure what kind of dance partner I’ll see. This is going to be a great fight for the fans of the sport and I’m just hoping to make it a great fight.”
BRANDON FIGUEROA, Figueroa’s Brother and Former World Champion
“Both of these guys are going to bring everything to the table. I think it’s their time to shine, their time to showcase their skills and really make a statement. I’m just so proud of my brother, how far he has come and he is still here. He’s put in the work. Every time me and my brother fight, it’s must-see. We’re all-action fighters. This is going to be amazing.
“It’s going to be a great fight. There will definitely be fireworks. I know my brother is going to bring the pressure on Broner. Broner is quick, fast and slick so my brother has to keep that pressure on him, work the body and do the effective work that Marcos Maidana did when he beat Broner. Obviously, it’s not similar styles, but if he follows that game plan I believe it will work.”
OMAR FIGUEROA SR., Figueroa’s Father and Trainer
“Preparation is going well. His training has been good, sparring is good, injury-free up to now. We’re hoping he’s at 100% going into this fight.
“Omar is an offensive-minded fighter. That’s his defense. So, we’re working on conditioning for this fight. Omar is 32. He’s feeling the age a bit. That’s why you take advantage of your youth in this sport. But with Broner, that is a pretty even fight. We’re looking to win this fight and see what’s next.
“Broner is a great fighter. He derailed a bit, but he’s back on track. He and Omar took different paths and now they’re back on it. I take nothing away from Broner. He looked a little overweight from what I saw, but maybe he knows how to cut weight getting close to the fight.”

Rances Barthelemy Feels his Last Performance will Garner him Another Big Fight at Super Lightweight
LAS VEGAS, NV (August 1, 2022) – LAS VEGAS, NV (August 8, 2022) – After a week to digest his disputed early stoppage to Gary Antuanne Russell (16-0, 16 KOs), Rances Barthelemy (29-2-1, 15 KOs), feels his latest performance will garner him another fight against a big name in the super lightweight division.
“Although I thought my fight against Gary Antuanne Russell was stopped early, I feel I gave the fans an exciting fight.” Barthelemy stated. “I was letting my hands go and I almost got him out of there in the opening round. Orlando Cuellar is my new trainer and he has me fighting in a more aggressive style. I know I have power and I know I can still compete at the championship level. I’m seeking another big fight by the end of the year.”
Barthelemy’s loss to Russel took place July 30th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on the undercard of Danny “Swift Garcia vs. Jose Benavidez Jr. live on SHOWTIME, a Premier Boxing Champions event.
“I love this sport and I will always have respect for the referees that work our bouts,” continued Barthelemy. “I just feel that Murdaugh made a suspect decision by stopping this fight. I showed I can compete with the best young fighters in boxing, and I just want an opportunity to close out my career with honor, without any controversy.”

JOSEPH “JOJO” DIAZ, JR. AND WILLIAM ZEPEDA SET TO BATTLE IN DANGEROUS CROSSROADS FIGHT TO BE AMONGST THE LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION ELITE
LOS ANGELES, CA (August 8, 2022) – Out to prove they are worthy of fighting for a world championship fight in the near future, South El Monte’s Joseph “JoJo” Diaz, Jr. (32-2-1) will face Mexico’s undefeated rising star, William “Camarón” Zepeda (26-0, 23 KOs) of San Mateo Atenco, Mexico in a dangerous, 12-round lightweight main event that will be broadcast live worldwide exclusively on DAZN on Saturday, November 5.
In the crossroads matchup, former IBF junior lightweight titlist Diaz, Jr. has his eyes locked on continuing his campaign to take over the lightweight division despite a minor setback after facing Devin Haney in December 2021. By taking on this fight, Diaz, Jr. proves, yet again, that he is willing to take on any of the toughest challengers.
“I am very excited to be back in the ring and do what I love,” said Diaz, Jr. “I’m going to take on the toughest challenge that will bring out the best in me. I’m going to show the shrimp what it’s like to swim with the sharks.”
Undefeated Zepeda will be looking to climb the ranks with a victory over Diaz, Jr. giving him a spot to become a top contender for a world title. With an impressive knockout ratio over 90 percent, Zepeda will be looking to impress fans with his aggressive style.
“I am ready to dance with JoJo and give him trouble,” said Zepeda.
“This fight proves that Golden Boy Promotions isn’t scared to put its fighters in tough matches to give fight fans the boxing entertainment they’re looking for,” said Oscar De La Hoya. “JoJo Diaz, Jr. and William Zepeda are both hungry fighters ready to put their reputation on the line to prove they are worthy contenders in the lightweight division. Both are aggressive southpaw fighters who come forward and are unafraid to give fans a show.”
“The lightweight division continues to be one of the most compelling in boxing today and this exciting matchup between JoJo Diaz, Jr. and William Zepeda is going to be an exciting showdown between two serious contenders,” said Joseph Markowski, EVP, DAZN. “We look forward to broadcasting this event worldwide on DAZN as part of an ever-growing lineup of fight nights this fall.”
More information on the venue, tickets, and the undercard will be announced in the coming weeks.
Diaz, Jr. vs. Zepeda is a 12-round fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions. The fight will take place on Saturday, November 5 and will be broadcast live exclusively on DAZN worldwide.

Coyle with his new NABA middleweight title

Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Jr. Moves to 16-1
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (August 7, 2022) – Popular junior welterweight Mike “Bad Man” Ohan turned in a workmanlike performance in last night’s “The Next Chapter,” presented by Granite Chin Promotions, on a very hot ,humid evening at Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
Ohan (16-1, 9 KOs),the former New England Welterweight Champion, kept fans from his nearby hometown of Holbrook happy, taking a 6-round, majority decision from his Argentinian foe, Jonathan “Yoni” Ariel Sosa (7-14-2, 4 KOs).
Ohan buzzed Sosa with a left hook early in the fight, found his rhythm and closed the opening round on a strong note, hurting his opponent during an exchange with a snapping right. Ohan pushed the pace in the second, throwing crisp combinations, effectively countering as well.
In the third, Sosa came out more aggressively, keeping Ohan off balance, but Ohan soon regained control. Ohan used his jab more in the fourth and two rights to the head and two lefts to the body put Ohan back in total control.
In total command, Ohan cruised in the fifth and pressed the action the sixth against a game Sosa, who kept coming back every time he looked like the fight was about to be over, right to the final bell.
“He (Sosa) is a tough journeyman,” Ohan said after the fight. “He’s gone the distance with some good guys. It was a good fight and now we move on to the next one. I’ll talk to Chris (promoter Traietti) and see what’s next.”
Ohan often went to Sosa’s body
In the co-featured event, New Bedford (MA) light heavyweight Edet “Papito” Mkpanam (8-0, 7 KOs) remained undefeated, knocking out Larry “Slo Mo” Smith (13-51-2, 9 KOs) in the third round with a vicious right to the head. Referee Jackie Morrel immediately waved off the fight as soon as Smith hit the canvas.
Mkpanam had nearly put Smith to sleep early in the second round with a left hook that put Smith on his back. The resilient Smith, however, beat the count and continued against his heavy-handed opponent.
The scheduled co-feature for the vacant Massachusetts Middleweight Championship between Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste (4-2, 2 KOs) and Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi (3-2, 1 KO) was canceled midway through the show because Andreozzi became ill in the locker room.
“It was another great show,” Granite State Promotions president Chris Traietti commented. “The Vets Club draws real boxing fans. Everyone stepped up, the hometown guys as well as the out-of-town fighters. Ohan fought an experienced guy and got in some quality rounds. I’m excited about his future.”
Explosive junior middleweight Luke Iannuccillo (3-0, 2 KOs), of Methuen (MA), pounded cagey Las Vegas fighter Rynell Griffin (80-54-2, 2 KOs) from the opening bell, at one point landing 24 unanswered punches when he pinned Griffin on the ropes. Iannuccillo’s dominance lasted right to the end for a shutout, winning all four rounds on each of the three judges’ scorecards.
Brockton’s (MA) David “The Blessed One” Ribeiro (1-0-1, 1 KO) and Rhode Island junior middleweight Alfred “Keenan” Raymond (1-2-1 (0 KOs) fought to a 4-round draw. Riberio, a 20202 New England Golden Gloves champion, started cautiously and fought tentatively for the first two rounds, but he let his go much more in the third, effectively countering the awkward fighting Raymond. It wasn’t enough in the end, though, to pull out a win for the local favorite.
In the opening bout, Brockton heavyweight Kirk Wilmart (1-0, 1 KOs) had an impressive pro debut, flooring Wewerton Silveira Silva (0-4) three times, the last signalling the end as the fight was stopped late in round one.

CASTANEDA AND MORAN ARE VICTORIOUS IN PROBOX TV’S 140 lb. LAST CHANCE TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALS; THE CHAMPIONSHIP IS SET FOR NOVEMBER 4 & THE WINNER WILL TAKE HOME $50,000
PLANT CITY, Florida (August 4, 2022): ProBox TV’s “Last Chance Tournament” 140 lb. semi-finals from at the ProBox Events Center in Plant City, Florida (suburb of Tampa) are complete.
The victors – Antonio “Toño” Moran from Mexico City, Mexico and Kendo “Tremendo” Castaneda from San Antonio, Texas – will battle in ProBox TV’s Last Chance Tournament Championship on Friday, November 4.
The first semi-final was a back and forth fight and very close to call. Paul Malignaggi, Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr. called it from ringside. Prior to the scores, it was announced that if the fight was a draw, they would fight one more round!
Turns out, Kendo “Tremendous” Castaneda (19-5, 9 KOS) won 96-94 over Joseph Fernandez (15-5, 3 KOS) on all three of the judges cards. Malignaggi called it a Fight of the Year candidate, saying “I can’t believe neither fighter went down in round nine.” In round nine, Kendo was hurt with a straight left, then later in the round, connected with a right hook that hurt Fernandez real bad. Fernandez struggled to stay on his feet and barely made it to the end of the round.
“Before the fight I knew it was going to be a tough fight – he was looking at me with eyes of fire,” said Castaneda. “After the 6th round I went back to my corner and I was exhausted and they said ‘you’ve got to keep pushing.’ In the ninth round, I knew I hit him with a good shot and he wobbled but he made it to the end. It feels great to get the wind. It makes me believe that the hard with I am putting in, in my life, does not go unnoticed. Keep pushing and keep working harder. Any fight can turn in your favor. Now of course I will stay and watch the next fight so I can see who I will fight for that $50,000 Check!”
The second semi-final and main event of the evening was a little more one-sided with Antonio Moran (28-5-1, 19 KOs) controlling the pace. He was hitting Michael Dutchover (16-3, 10 KOs) with body shots and combinations. Dutchover attempted throughout the fight to get inside, but seemed frustrated as Moran kept his distance as needed, fighting as Malignaggi said “in a middle range.” The final scores were 99-91 and 100-90 two times.
Sometimes it would get very complicated for me. I couldn’t just throw combinations because he would get too close and it made me feel a little off. One of the things I said from the time I saw him that we were going to meet in the final. I know now that I have to work on my conditioning. I am going to have to work real hard to take that final. This tournament is a great opportunity. It is a second chance for me to not only win this tournament but there will be doors that will open afterwards. Hard work brings opportunity.”

SMITH VS. O’MAISON PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES
Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:
“Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Sheffield. It’s brilliant to be back in the Steel City ahead of a huge night of boxing this Saturday at the Sheffield Arena. The NXTGEN are here in Sheffield, the future stars of the sport. Three big championship fights at the top of the bill but so much young talent here too. The reason these cards are so exciting is because this is the future of British boxing. All of these young guys and girls looking to move to the next level. This weekend headlined by, who I believe is one of the best young stars not just in British boxing but in world boxing, Dalton Smith. An all-Sheffield clash for the British Light-Welterweight championship live and exclusive on DAZN around the world.”
Dalton Smith:
“There are no easy fights in this stage of your career in boxing. I’m overwhelmed with the support and how it’s sold. It’s going to be electric on Saturday night. When you look at the people I’ve boxed I’ve not boxed no gimmes. Since Fight Camp every single fight has been a real contender. At the end of the day it’s just me and Sam in there. I’ve got that experience behind me and on Saturday night this is going to be like the homecoming for Dalton Smith. This is what is going to boost my career to the next level. I’ve been a young fighter coming up watching the past British greats. Friday Fight Night the British Title used to be the main event. That’s the journey I’ve seen – British, Commonwealth, European and so on. I want to look back on my career when I’ve won all of those traditional belts. You could say that there’s easier routes for me to take. I could go down the international route, but I want to do it the proper way. I look at the division I’m in and I’m in probably one of the toughest divisions in boxing right now. I want to do it right. I’m confident in my abilities and I know where I can go. The British is one belt I’m picking up along the way. You’ve seen how Sheffield Wednesday have got behind me. That’s not been forced, that’s because they’ve wanted to do it. They’ve showed the love and support. Not only the football club, the who of Sheffield are getting behind me now. The ticket sales show that. 5,000 are going to be in there. The atmosphere is going to be hostile. This is what we dream of and I can’t wait to be stood on that podium soaking it all up. This is why we work so hard, for nights like this. There’s no pressure on me because I’ve wanted these nights since I was 5.”
Sam O’maison:
“I’ve been at it for a long time. I’ve always been in the background and in the shadows. If I’m honest I’ve not had it the best at all. I’ve always had to be away in people’s hometowns and travelling to Spain and places like that when opportunities have come up. I’m not one of those to shy away from opportunities. If any opportunity comes up, I’m taking it. I’m not in the game to pick and choose. It’s a British Title fight. I didn’t even ask who it was against, I was just saw it and asked when and where. A lot of people don’t know this, I was at the Ingle Gym for 12 years and then I went to Grant Smith’s gym for around two weeks. I was training with a guy called Ian Grant who was there. I’m at a stage in my career now where this has come along and everything is perfect. I’m here for a reason, I’m not here by chance. I’m excited. I’m a fan of this fight myself. I’d love to sit and watch it. I can’t wait and I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be one of those cracking fights that could go down in history.
Sandy Ryan:
“I want to thank you (Eddie Hearn) for making this rematch because I wouldn’t have wanted any other fight. I’m just so ready to put things right on Saturday. My previous fights, you’ll see that wasn’t me. Saturday night, this is the real Sandy Ryan. The years I had on Team GB were fun. You’re going out competing and it’s for fun really. You turn pro and it’s a business. I realised that early on in my career. Now I’ve learnt how to deal with it, and it’s put me in a great position right now ahead of Saturday. Me and Clifton Mitchell (trainer) have prepared for either way because we know what she brings to the table. You’re going to see how much that I’ve respected her as a fighter because of how hard I’ve trained and the shape I’ve got in.”
Erica Farias:
“Thank you very much for the invitation Eddie, much appreciated. Hello to everybody, I’m delighted to be back here in England. It’s going to be a big return obviously having this rematch was essential, it had to be the case after the March showdown. Unfortunately, in that head to head the referee deducted a point from me in the final round which skewed the result. In my opinion it was a straight forward win, not a split decision. I’m very glad to be back here now competing for this title and I hope I’m going to put on a big performance for everybody and take this title back to Argentina.”
Jordan Thompson:
“This guy brings a genuine threat. He’s tough, he’s durable and he’s game. Other guys have come to see how long they can survive. I think and hope, he’s come to see if he can win. I think that’s just going to bring the best out of me. It’s going to give me an opportunity to really showcase what I am truly about. I can’t wait to go out there and show the people that, and show the people that have shown the love and support really what Jordan Troublesome Thompson is about. It’s always about the win but I do have that added pressure on myself. I do want to go out there and look special. We’re in the entertainment business at the end of the day. I do have to be mindful that I can’t go out there and force it. But at the same time if the opportunity does come, I’ll be taking it with both hands. The Cruiserweight division is thriving right now. There’s fights left, right and centre. There’s some great talent and some great strength and depth. But I’ve got one focus and that’s this man across the stage from me.”
Vasil Ducar:
“I am happy to be here. The boxing is my imagination. I want to make a good fight. When I jump in the ring, I see only my opponent. I want to show for everybody a good fight. Maybe not against Chris Billam-Smith or in the last fight but one day there is a big victory for me coming and maybe that will be Saturday – I hope so. Every day I stay on my road and go step by step. I’m still waiting for that.”
Campbell Hatton:
“It is a step up and I think it’s going to bring the best out of me to be honest. He’s coming in with a winning record so he’s going to have that ambition about him. I think when you’re fighting the sort of journeyman type fighters, they don’t offer much aggressively. It’s hard to get your work off and look good against them. Whereas this guy is coming to win and he’s going to leave openings. That’s going to work in my favour. I’ve got all of the ingredients you need to make it as a top fighter but the one area I’m lacking is the experience. The only way to improve that is by being active. Hopefully if we can finish the years in double figures nice and busy that would be perfect.”
Johnny Fisher:
“It’s been a great year, my first year five fights in. I’m looking forward to getting started now in Sheffield. The injury was frustrating but it gave me time to reflect and see how far I’ve come. I think back two years ago from this time now, I was just finishing university and wasn’t sure what I was going to do. Now I’m here five fights in, this is my sixth fight and I’m progressing all of the time with my training team and my managers. I just want to keep doing that. I’m among all of these great fighters here and I’m really proud to be among this great crop of talent as well. I’ve had some great experiences for this camp. I’ve sparred a lot with Derek Chisora. I’ve had loads of people with great advice around me as well. One of them people being Michael Watson who give me a lot of advice in The Origin Gym. I’m enjoying every minute of this journey.”
Hopey Price:
“It was a bit frustrating last time. I believe I had a god performance in Alexandra Palace. I was scheduled for a title fight in my hometown of Leeds, but I had a bit of an injury. I’ve worked hard and I’m fully recovered now. I’m going to put on another special performance come Saturday night, and I’m going to show all of the other Super-Bantamweights out there that I’m here and I’m ready to contest for these titles. I look at Dalton Smith boxing for the British Title in his hometown, I believe I’m not too far away. In a few fights time we can pack out Leeds Arena boxing for that British Title. I look past no opponent. I’ve got a tough fight scheduled on Saturday night but I’m going to do the job and I’m going to do it in style.”
Kieron Conway:
“I’m here fully focused on Saturday. There are no pushovers in pro boxing. The guy is coming here to win. He’s coming here to make the upset. I’m going to be fully on my game. I’m not going to overlook him and look at Austin Williams. I’ve been training for this date and I’m fighting on Saturday. I can’t wait, it’s massive (fighting on the Canelo vs. Golovkin 3 undercard). Being out there for the couple of days last year on the Canelo-Saunders card opened my eyes to the big stage. I want that. I want to be there again. I’m going there to smash him. I’m going there to win. I’m going to shut everyone up, I’m going to shut him up. I don’t know why people are turning down these sorts of fights. I think Austin Williams is a bit of a hype job. I don’t think he lives up to his hype. I also think that maybe I’m a little bit underestimated. What right have I got to turn down these fights? I didn’t come from anywhere; I didn’t do anything in the amateurs really. I’ve got to make my way the hard way.”
Aqib Fiaz:
“It was a difficult year last year, but I believe what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I’m back here and I want to say thank you to you Eddie and Matchroom for having me back. Thank you to all of my loyal fans and my sponsors, I’m here to make you all proud. Let’s get these couple of fights out of the way, let’s get active and then we’ll get some belts in 2023.”
Junaid Bostan:
“I’m a hidden talent but hopefully after Saturday I won’t be. I’m delighted to be here so thank you Eddie. I always knew that I’d be boxing at the arena at one point, soon I’ll be headlining. Right now it’s Dalton’s turn. Over the years obviously the gym is around the corner from the arena and I’ve always gone past it at the bus stop. I always thought I’d box there one day. Here I am. Over the years I’ve watched Kell, Barry and Naseem fights on Youtube in the arena. Me and Dalton have always spoken about it and here I am. I’m going to make the most of it. I’ve got a decent opponent in a six rounder in my second fight. I’m going to put on a very good performance.”
Nico Leivars:
“Thanks for having me back on. It’s a great opportunity to fight on another Matchroom card. I’m just looking to continue the progress and the learning in my career. I want to keep nice and active and take good opponents. This will be my second six rounder so we’re making nice progress.”
NATASHA JONAS MAKES LIVERPOOL HOMECOMING FOR EPIC UNIFICATION WORLD TITLE FIGHT ON 3RD SEPTEMBER
LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND – 5th August 2022 – WBO super-welterweight champion Natasha Jonas (11-2-1, 8 KOs) kicks off a monumental month for women’s boxing when she looks to add the WBC crown to her collection in a blockbuster unification fight at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
Tickets are on sale now via Boxxer.com, with prices beginning at just £40.
Fighting in her beloved home city of Liverpool, Jonas – who was the first-ever British female boxer to compete at an Olympic Games a decade ago – faces Sweden’s unbeaten defending WBC world champion Patricia Berghult (15-0, 3 KOs).
It will be the first time Jonas has fought on Merseyside since she dispatched Bianka Majlath three years ago, as the Sky Sports commentator joins fellow hometown hero Liam Smith on an action-packed card.
But in Berghult, Jonas faces arguably the toughest test of her career when she collides with one of the most formidable stars in female boxing today.
Ben Shalom, BOXXER CEO and Founder, said: “Tasha is one of British boxing’s trailblazers. She was our first world champion signing at BOXXER and she fully deserves this great opportunity on home soil. And it is a great fight against the WBC champion Berghult, who is unbeaten and will be looking to upset the home fans.
“Tasha is a hugely popular figure on Merseyside and she will be backed by thousands on the night. The atmosphere at the M&S Bank Arena will be electric – and just what Tasha needs as she bids to become the unified world champion.”
With this huge BOXXER fight night screened live and exclusively on Sky Sports, Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development at Sky Sports, added: “We are delighted to have Natasha back in action on Sky Sports in beloved home city of Liverpool, fighting for the unified world titles.
“She has been a magnificent and refreshing addition to the Sky Sports commentary team under the BOXXER banner. Now it is time for her to get back to what she loves doing best – and hopefully capturing the famous WBC title in the process.”
On what is an action-packed card, fight fans can also look forward to seeing Liverpool’s own Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith make his homecoming, along with the likes of Dan Azeez and Adam Azim on display.

WORLD TITLE HOPEFUL JACK CATTERALL JOINS BOXXER AFTER SIGNING NEW MULTI-FIGHT DEAL
LONDON, ENGLAND – 5th August 2022 – Jack Catterall (26-1-0, 13 KOs) has penned a new multi-fight deal to sign exclusively with BOXXER, the next generation boxing promotion.
The 29-year-old world title prospect is a man on a mission – and he can now look forward to some huge fights being screened live and exclusively on Sky Sports.
Catterall was controversially denied undisputed super lightweight glory last February when he suffered the only defeat of his career thus far to Josh Taylor.
The Chorley-based fighter left Glasgow empty-handed following a contentious split decision in favour of his rival in a result which baffled boxing fans across the globe.
But the hard-hitting southpaw sensation is determined to avenge that defeat by Taylor after declaring he is ready to rise again and settle the score.
After putting pen to paper on a new long-term deal, a delighted Catterall said: “I am thrilled to join BOXXER. I have signed a multi-fight deal and BOXXER has a brilliant platform in Sky Sports.
“This feels like a fresh start. I’ve kept it all under wraps until now, so I think this news will be a nice surprise for a lot of people, especially all those who have been asking me over the past weeks and months what is happening. Hopefully they’ll be just as excited as I am and together, we can all look forward to the next stages of my career with some big fights and big nights ahead.
“I genuinely believe that those big fights can be delivered through BOXXER and Sky. It’s a huge platform for me to perform on and I am mega excited about it.
“Ben [Shalom] and I are both of a similar age. And, like myself, he is very ambitious. He has put an incredible team together at BOXXER and, ultimately, I think it is a great partnership.
“I fully believe in my ability to go on and capture world titles with BOXXER. I’m still only 29-years-old, so I’ve got some good years ahead of me in the sport. I want to deliver big fights for the fans and there isn’t anyone better than Ben and BOXXER to do it alongside.”
Ben Shalom, BOXXER CEO and Founder, added: “What a signing this is for BOXXER. We are truly thrilled. And we all want Jack Catterall to have an amazing career off the back of it and get all the opportunities he deserves.
“Maybe that will be the rematch with Josh Taylor, but whatever happens I think he deserves another world title shot in the very near future.
“I speak to Top Rank and to Josh a fair bit. I know that he wants the fight, but I also know that if there are things getting in the way of a rematch happening, then Jack is not going to hang around.
“For Jack this heralds the start of a new dawn. And, believe me, when I say a storm is coming. You are looking at a future world champion in Jack and a man who is destined to write his name in the history books of British boxing. I can’t wait to see him in action again soon along with some huge fights we have earmarked for him down the line.”
Adam Smith, Head of Boxing Development at Sky Sports, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Jack is joining the new era of Sky and BOXXER. This is a major announcement.
“I have been a huge admirer of Jack’s for years – he has always brought entertainment, passion and will fight anyone. We will get right behind Jack as he aims to become a world champion in the near future.”
Dubbed ‘El Gato, Catterall launched his professional career in style over a decade ago when he beat Carl Allen on points in Manchester.
The former Central Area champion went on to win the British super lightweight crown in 2017 when he beat Tyrone Nurse. And Catterall would follow that by knocking out the likes of Kevin McCauley, Christopher Sabire and Oscar Amador as part of several successful WBO Intercontinental defences.
Impressive victories over domestic rival Ohara Davies and Germany’s Timo Schwarzkopf would help catapult Catterall into the world title picture as he was named the mandatory challenger for a shot at the full WBC world title.
Amidst the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, Catterall was forced to wait patiently for his chance, and he delayed his mandatory opportunity to see Josh Taylor unify the division when the Scot beat Jose Carlos Ramirez to capture the WBC title and add to his haul of WBA, WBO and IBF belts.
Catterall and Taylor would eventually collide at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, in a fight which many believe the Englishman should have walked away with the gold earlier this year.
Indeed, there is no doubt that Catterall will be heavily backed to do the business should the pair renew rivalries in a second ‘Battle of Britain’ rematch.
News of Parker’s debut for BOXXER and Sky Sports will be announced in the near future.

VERGIL ORTIZ, JR. VS. MICHAEL MCKINSON PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES
FORT WORTH, TX (August 4, 2022): Golden Boy’s knockout sensation and the pride of Grand Prairie, Texas, Vergil Ortiz, Jr. (18-0, 18 KOs), and top 10 ranked, undefeated welterweight contender Michael “The Problem” McKinson (22-0, 2 KOs) of Portsmouth, Great Britain hosted a press conference to discuss their upcoming fight on Saturday, August 6 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas that will stream live worldwide, exclusively on DAZN.
At the press conference, it was announced that their 12-round combat will also be an eliminator fight for the WBA Welterweight World Championship belt in addition for Ortiz’s WBO International Welterweight Title.
Several of the card’s fighters also participated in the press conference including newly crowned WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine Flyweight World Champion Marlen Esparza (12-1, 1 KOs), and her mandatory opponent, the WBA flyweight world championship challenger of Maracay, Venezuela Eva Guzman (19-1, 11 KOs).
Also in attendance, local fan-favorite Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (27-2-3, 18 KOs) exchanged some lively words with Philadelphia’s Blair “The Flair” Cobbs (15-1-1, 10 KOs). Indio, CA’s Bektemir Melikuziev (9-1, 7 KOs) was onsite with his opponent Sladan Janjanin (32-10, 24 KOs) and fighters featured on the undercard also took to the stage to talk about their upcoming bouts, including: Floyd Schofield (10-0, 8 KOs), Alex Martin (17-4, 6 KOs), Carlos Nava (8-0, 5 KOs), and Figo Ramirez (1-0).
VERGIL ORTIZ, JR., WBO INTERNATIONAL WELTERWEIGHT TITLE HOLDER:
“I am grateful for this fight to be an eliminator, it’s just closer to a world title shot.”
“It has been a great camp, staying in Venice, CA running outside by the beach. That the Texas heat shocked me when I landed and walked out of the airport. But after a few minutes, I was thankful because it feels like home, I knew I was home.”
“I have a lot of pride being from Texas and fighting in Texas. A lot of my peers and family are here and it pumps me up.”
“This is boxing, anything can happen. I have respect for all fighters that step in the ring. We all fight for the same thing, we all fight to give our families a better life. And I respect every fighter for it.” MICHAEL MCKINSON, UNDEFEATED WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER:
“Knowing that this is now a world title eliminator adds more fuel to the fire. This is just the cherry on top.”
“This fight has been a long time coming – since last November. Originally, I was told I would fight Ortiz, Jr. in January and then it was moved to March. Then due to unfortunate circumstances, the March fight couldn’t happen. But I just want to give a big ‘thank you’ to Golden Boy and Team Ortiz, Jr. for giving me the opportunity again. I know I am coming to the lion’s den, and I promise my family and team that I will not disappoint them.”
“I believe in myself, in my hard work, in my rise. I have worked myself the hard way and I deserve my opportunity. I have a lot of people supporting me back home and I promise I will make you all proud.”
MARLEN ESPARZA , WBC, WBA, AND RING MAGAZINE FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION:
“Holding all these belts is something different, it’s something that I have been wanting my entire life but knowing that i have earned them means everything to me; it means that everything that I am doing is good, but I never want to let up, I want to keep improving.”
“Since I was a little girl, since I started boxing, I never had any role models. There weren’t any mothers or fathers who approved of their daughters boxing. There weren’t many girls in the gym, and growing up that way was difficult for me and now I want to be able to change that and make a difference in people’s mindsets.” EVA GUZMAN, MANDATORY WBA FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CHALLENGER:
“I want to thank Golden Boy for the opportunity. When I see those belts it represents how far women’s boxing has come along in the sport. I am here to support the rise of women in boxing and boxing in Venezuela.”
“This is the third time I have fought for a world championship. I have won the IBA Minimumweight and WBA Interim Flyweight world championships. Every challenge represents a big responsibility and I am looking forward to advancing the sport for women everywhere.” MAURICE HOOKER, FORMER LIGHT WELTERWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION:
“I feel good. This is another chapter of my life. I am ready. I am prepared. I have been training and staying ready, staying focused. I knew someone would call me up and I had to stay ready to fight.”
“I have been training with Crawford for a while. Everyday we push each other, we work hard. I love working beside him and everyone else, it’s a big family. I am here at this level and I am ready for Saturday night.”
“I have put in all the hard work and I know Blair Cobbs has been putting in all the hard work. I am ready and let’s put on a great show.” BLAIR COBBS, WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER:
“Maurice Hooker is a tougher fighter, a bigger challenger for me. This guy brings more to the game. He is a great boxer and a great contender. It doesn’t get any better for me.”
“I rise to the occasion. I always have my back against the ropes and this is just another obstacle that I have to overcome.”
“‘Blair the Flair’ is born for greatness, that is how I stay confident. I am born for greatness.” BEKTEMIR “BEK THE BULLY” MELIKUZIEV, LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CONTENDER:
“I feel very good, ready. I just want to fight. Thank you all for our support looking for a great fight Saturday night.”
SLADAN “THE MINER” JANJANIN, LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CONTENDER:
“I have prepared for four months for this fight and this is the best time for me. I have a lot of respect for my opponent. It’s an honor to be here. I have visited a lot of countries in the world but this is the best for me.”
ERIC GOMEZ, PRESIDENT OF GOLDEN BOY: “It was all strategic, he has arrived and he is ready for any challenge. Like Bernard said, Michael McKinson stepped up. We tried to make other fights and no one wanted to fight him. You have to love Michael McKinson, he stayed ready and he wanted to fight Vergil anywhere. He has a lot of heart, he is a fighter.”
BERNARD HOPKINS, HALL OF FAMER AND GOLDEN BOY PARTNER:
“Vergil reminds me of myself – The Executioner. But this is Vergil’s time now. He’s the real thing, and he’s been chipping at it bit by bit, fight by fight.”
“The fans and his presence you can pick up from walking around town – you can tell that they’re excited for this to happen. And he brings excitement – if you look at his personality and the way he carries himself and what he turns into when the bell rings – it’s easy to promote but hard to get someone to get into the ring with him. We’re going to expose a lot of people when the time comes.” FLOYD SCHOFIELD, LIGHTWEIGHT PROSPECT:
“What I love about boxing is the fighting. I just love fighting. I was born to do it. My dad raised me to fight, and I love all the blood and punching.”
“My fighting style depends on my opponent. If I need to brawl, box, and bang I will just need to adjust to it. My dad is gonna hate this, but I love to brawl, but I need to listen to my coach and adjust on how they see it on the corner.”
ALEX MARTIN, SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT CONTENDER:
“My career has had a bunch of ups and downs. I took the last fight on two days’ notice and went up two weight classes.”
“It sounds like I will retire Hank Lundy on Saturday. He’s going to sleep.”
CARLOS NAVA, LIGHTWEIGHT PROSPECT:
“It was a great camp for seven weeks, I feel strong, I feel amazing.”
“I am looking for the knock out. I am not going to rush it bit I want to for sure end it in the first three rounds.”
FIGO RAMIREZ, BANTAMWEIGHT PROSPECT:
“I am excited and nervous. I am ready to show off in front of everyone who is coming.”
“It’s a great experience learning from Vergil Ortiz, Jr. and his dad. They run a very tough training camp. It is amazing to be in this Arena, I grew up around it. It’s crazy, it’s dope, it’s a dream come true.”

NONITO DONAIRE – ‘I want Kazuto Ioka or Chocolatito next
LOS ANGELES, AUGUST 4 – Nonito Donaire is targeting huge fights at super flyweight with Kazuto Ioka and Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez – before moving back up to chase bantamweight greatness.
The former four-weight world champion has emphatically dismissed any idea of retiring following his brutal stoppage defeat to Naoya Inoue in June.
Instead, the legendary Donaire, who will be 40 in November, intends on dropping down to the 115lbs division to chase mouth watering fights with WBO champion Ioka and the brilliant Chocolatito.
And then the Filipino Flash plans to move back into the mix at bantamweight in pursuit of becoming the undisputed champion in that division. “It’s a really good fight with Chocolatito and people are saying it would be ‘legend versus legend’”Donaire told Probellum.com
“It’s a big fight. But I do like the Ioka fight as well because I want to get that title and become a five-division champion and then move back up to 118 and go for the undisputed crown once everything else is open and I get another opportunity for it.”
Donaire has revealed he was mulling over the move to super flyweight in the hours before he faced Inoue last month.
“Before the fight with Inoue, Richard Schaefer and I talked about going down to 115,” Donaire said.
“Making the weight was very simple for me and I made it quickly. I even made 117 before stepping on the scales.
“Richard and I were talking and saying that regardless of what happens here, maybe I can go down to 115 and fight the guys in that division.
“Richard is talking with Ioka’s people, with Mr Honda and he is talking to Chocolatito as well. It’s exciting, there are a lot of things to look forward to.”

‘NOWHERE TO RUN’ – JOYCE VS PARKER PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES
Joe Joyce went head-to-head with Joseph Parker today at the kick-off press conference ahead of their 24 September clash at the AO Arena, Manchester being shown exclusively live on BT Sport Box Office, promoted by Frank Warren for Queensberry Promotions in association with BOXXER.
The fighters traded verbal jabs in a media conference headed up by promoter Frank Warren of Queensberry, Adam Moralee of S-Jam (Joyce’s manager) and Ben Shalom of BOXXER, who represent Parker.
A selection of quotes from today’s opening media event can be found below.
Tickets for ‘Nowhere to Run’ – the heavyweight clash between Joe Joyce and Joe Parker at the AO Arena, Manchester on Saturday, 24 September – are priced from £40 and will go on sale at 12pm on Tuesday, 9 August exclusively from Ticketmaster.co.uk.
Frank Warren “We have delivered it, we wanted to make the fight and it is an important fight between the WBO No.1 in Joe and the WBO No.2 Joseph. These two are no ordinary Joes, they are two exceptional fighters and I think we are going to get something a bit special on the night. You look at their records, they’ve got fabulous records, with Joe Joyce 14 fights undefeated with 13 KOs and an amateur pedigree which is impeccable.
“Then we’ve got Joseph Parker, a former world champion, whose only defeats came against Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. This is, I think, a big crossroads fight for him. Can he get past Joe Joyce? Nobody has managed to do it yet because he has a fantastic engine in him, a great chin, he is solid and has also got a great punch – and a great workrate, the same as Joseph Parker. We know Parker comes to fight and one thing is for sure here, it will be a great fight.
“It is all on the line and you know why? Because it is such a big prize for the winner. The winner of this fight will become mandatory challenger to the winner of the fight on the 20th between Usyk and Joshua. So they have got everything to gain here, everything is on the line, this is what it is all about. This is heavyweight boxing at its best. It is not just two guys having a fight, there is a prize, a big prize at the end of the night for the winner. It is a massive incentive so these guys are going to put it on the line big time and the fans will get an unbelievable, phenomenal, bonanza fight.
“All anyone needs to know is that it is happening. What went on behind the scenes went on behind the scenes. We all worked very hard and Joe Joyce has been so patient, along with his manager Adam, and we all kept our eyes on the prize and had tunnel vision on this. My son George did all the negotiations with Ben and did a great job and between them we got it on. All that matters now is that these two guys are signed up and will be in the ring on September 24. That is all that matters. All the other stuff is in the past, that has gone, what we have got to look forward to is an absolutely unbelievable fight – a heavyweight bang-up at its best!”
Joe Joyce “Now the fight is happening it is giving the fans what they want because it is going to be a great fight and I can’t wait to just knock him out for all this time waiting and all the messing about when we could have had it in July. He was just wasting my time. I think he will try his hardest to hit me and do whatever he has done in camp but, at the end of the day, I am gonna win and knock you out. Little Joe is going to tickle me on September 24.
“I would say I am more like the older George Foreman, the second one who won the world title. I am close to that age now and I am still knocking you out. I back myself, but I am the A fighter and I am entitled to my rematch clause. The fight is on now and I can put some dents into your face. What a night it is going to be, it is the best fight out there and there can only be one winner. The best on the night will be me, preferably. I am really excited for it and it is good I had a fight inbetween to get me back in the ring after being out a long time. I am excited to be in the best fight, the best shape and really put a dent in his face.”
Joseph Parker “I see this fight as a great fight for both Joes. He may be bigger, but the bigger they are the harder they… fall. So I think it is a great fight with us both ranked highly by the WBO and the WBC and it is a fight that I have always wanted. I am thankful to Boxxer and Sky and BT and Frank for making this fight happen. It is a fight that a lot of people wanted to see, a fight that I wanted and Joe wanted – and now we are here.
“I am very excited to start camp with Andy Lee next week and I am going to have the best preparation. There is no reaction to people saying I ducked the fight because we are here now and the reason for that is we want the fight. We have come to an agreement that everyone is happy with. I am going to beat him out, get the win and get out of there. That is what I’m going to do.”
Adam Moralee “I’ve been talking to David Higgins about this fight since the end of December 2021 when he told me he had an exclusive period of negotiation with Matchroom which came to an end and we started negotiating. It has been… horrendous, negotiating with those guys. Every time you think it is done, they are like Colombo, just one more thing, just one more thing. Joe Parker is a terrific guy and I know it is not him, it is his team and you do your best for your athlete, I understand that. His team just take it to the extreme and I really thought it meant Joe Parker didn’t want this fight by behaving in that manner. But I think he does want this fight and is true to his world.
“He is a world champion, he is a top level, top class guy and it is an amazing test for Joe Joyce, one he has always wanted. I sat down with Frank and George Warren after the last fight and I said this is our list and Joe Parker was right at the top. Joe Joyce has got to keep proving himself, he has always had to do it ever since the start of his career. He was the guy they all said was too slow and can’t do this and can’t do that. He proves everyone wrong every time. I think most people probably have this as a 50-50 but he will come through this as well.”
Ben Shalom “First of all, thanks to Queensberry. I think it was the fight all the fans wanted and when we signed Joseph this is what they were crying out for. I didn’t understand that they thought it couldn’t happen just because he signed with us and I hope boxing can now move in a direction. We know it is very competitive between broadcasters but, at the end of the day, we all work in boxing and want the best fights.
“Joseph Parker wanted this fight the moment he signed for us and we obviously put in that offer that Frank didn’t react to very nicely. That got us talking and we saw eye to eye after that. All we wanted was to make the fight, all Frank wanted was to make the fight and it has been a great experience. We are looking forward to an unbelievable fight and what Frank says is right, there is so much on the line with this one. There is so much money now in heavyweight boxing and for those world titles, so between the two of them now they have got a life-changing opportunity. Obviously Joseph Parker wants to become world champion for the second time and we believe he can.
“He has got the speed, he has got the movement, he has got the experience that I feel Joe Joyce doesn’t have in the professional world. He has been there, he’s done it and he is clearly improving as well. We think this is the perfect fight for Joseph Parker, we think perhaps Joe Joyce has made a mistake in this one and we think his style is all wrong for Joe Joyce. We think it is going to be a difficult fight but, we think over 12 rounds, Joseph Parker won’t get hit much and he will be very, very busy. It is an intriguing fight with a clash of styles as well, but we think Joe Parker has Joe Joyce’s number in this one.”
