Reyes Boxing Promotions Update

Boston, MA (April 15, 2022) – Michael Reyes, CEO & Founder of Reyes Boxing Promotions, has been a busy man of late.

On April 9, Reyes traveled to California with welterweight Jeovanis Barraza for his showdown against top rated contender Giovani Santillan on ESPN.

Shortly after returning to his native Massachusetts, Reyes signed new talent to his growing stable.

Chris Thompson, a 6-0 middleweight with 5 knockouts, inked a promotional contract with Reyes Boxing Promotions earlier this week. Born and raised in Kansas City, MO, the 6’1 Thompson was a three-time Golden Gloves champion. The 29-year-old’s been invited to camps for some of boxing’s best including Terence Crawford, Demetrius Andrade, and Amir Khan.

Outside of the ring, Thompson is a leader in his community.

Thompson works for the Gregg Klice Community Center, serving as a recreation leader and supervisor. He’s in charge of youth programs and his efforts help kids in one of the city’s most dangerous areas. He also runs his own boxing program, Crunch Time Boxing and took eight young fighters to compete in the Golden Gloves.

Reyes Boxing Promotions has also signed Santa, CA based bantamweight Mario Hernandez, 10-3-1 (3 KO’s) and heavyweight Robert Sabbagh, 3-1 (2 KO’s) of Brooklyn, NY.

“April has been a very busy month thus far,” said Reyes, who is also working on a special summer card that will take place at Gillette Stadium. “Chris caught my eye in Andrade’s camp and he’s not just a very talented fighter but a champion human being. Hernandez is very tough and lost a close fight against an unbeaten prospect for the NABA belt in his last fight. If the decision went his way, he’d be world rated. Sabbagh is a tough fighter that had a setback against a much bigger opponent in his last bout but I believe he can bounce back.”

On April 29, Reyes Boxing Promotions’ Marqus Bates is scheduled to fight 22 fight veteran Augustine Mauras in Springfield, MA. Bates scored a unanimous decision over Christian Guido February, 19 as part of Reyes Boxing’s “Down & Dirty” fight card in Melrose, MA.

BENN VS. VAN HEERDEN + UNDERCARD PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Conor Benn:
“People aren’t giving van Heerden a chance here which surprises me. For people to be saying, ‘why’s he fighting van Heerden?’, that’s a backhanded compliment really. They are trying not to show me respect but really they are because you wouldn’t have put me in this position two years ago, three years ago, four years ago. So, it doesn’t really matter what people think at the end of the day because progression is real.

“I love challenges. I thrive off of challenges, so do all fighters. We are all competitive and we love to compete and this is a challenge. This is a different type of challenge that I am prepared and will overcome with flying passing colours.

“I’m going to go in if I see an opportunity. I’ll take it.

“I knocked out Algieri out like no one else has. I’m going to knock Van Heerden out like no one else has. I believe that passion and hard work can get you anywhere.

“It’s not emotion, I just fight with passion. I work extremely hard and it ain’t just me working hard. It’s six years of sacrifice to let a moment like this slip between my fingers.”

Chris van Heerden:
“All respect for Conor for giving me this opportunity. I have nothing but respect for him. I am ready for this. I have visualised this moment… I was supposed to fight in the UK a couple of times… It was always a dream and a vision. I have what it takes to be in that top 10. I see it. I didn’t come here for paycheck. I didn’t come here to get a fight. I came here for my career. I came here to win and get my career back on track and get back in that top 10. I do believe in myself, and I do believe that I have everything it takes to get right back up there.

“I respect Conor Benn and I believe he is right up there with the best and that is why I took this fight. I want to be competitive and if you talk about boxing, I do believe I am a better boxer than Conor, all around better boxer. He’s an angry, aggressive fighter. He’s a fighter. I’m a boxer. And I do believe that I have the skill to show that I am a better boxer than Conor.

“I was offered a bunch of other fights, way easier fights. But I believe that Conor is right up there, and I am there to test him and see if he’s really, really legit.

“I just wish my dad was here because we spoke about this moment for a long time. I left him for eight years, every birthday, every Christmas, chasing this dream. And then my dad was brutally murdered three years ago. But we did it and we are here. So, I feel it. This is it.”

Chris Billam-Smith:
“It was a good fight last time but for me this is giving me the opportunity to put this to bed and prove my performance can be so much better than it was last time. And, I have proved that in camp. I will put on a superb performance on Saturday night.

“Now I know the ways to get around him and get the knockout.”

Tommy McCarthy:
“The last fight was so close and I’m so happy to get the rematch so we can set the record straight and get the win again… He may have to cancel Bournemouth because I am winning this on Saturday night.
“As long as I win on Saturday night, that is all that I’m focused on. It is a must win. And I have to stay concentrated on it. I am fully focused.

“He did it the gentlemanly way and gave me a shot (of rematch) when he didn’t have to give me one. There was so much controversy with the first one. The respect is earned and I don’t have any ill feelings especially because the fight we had was one of the fights of the year.

“As long as we are in the ring throwing shots, I need to be switched on.”

Alycia Baumgardner:
“I’m more than ready. As you know, I love to fight. I stayed in the gym to stay ready. What builds a fighter are these experienced fighters. I know she’s a fighter and she’s well-seasoned. It tells me that she’s never been stopped before, so I know what’s important and I know what I need to do come Saturday night.

“You will see a dominating performance even if it goes the distance, you will see a seasoned fighter – you know just a different calibre of who I am. We want the knockout, and the power is real.
“I will be undisputed at 130 pounds. I believe it and I’ve received it. I understand who I am as a fighter. That fight with Mayer is a big fight for women’s boxing and as we continue to grow the sport, we will continue to build in the sport.”

Edith Soledad Matthysse:
“I’ve accumulated a lot of experience and it’s very important in my game. I’ve come here to win and I’m hoping to clock up a win on Saturday not only for me but also for my country, Argentina.
“Saturday, I hope to be leaving here victorious.”

Jack Cullen:
“Last fight was in the bag, but it was what it was. I’ve shook it off. I’ve gotten over it through Christmas and I’m back training hard. He wants to knock me out so it’s going to be a belting fight.
“The game plan is to box and do what I do best. We will get through this, flying colours and hopefully see a rematch once we get past this, no injuries.”
Vladimir Belujsky:
“I’ve been watching Jack for the last two or three years and I’ve always fancied his fights. I was hoping to get this fight.
“I know the plan on Saturday night and I’m looking forward to it.
“All that’s on my mind right now is to knock him out. There’s nothing else I’m going into the ring with. Just to knock him out and get him out of there.”
Campbell Hatton:
“This weekend is my opportunity to box in front of my friends and family. Since I started the sport, people have been desperate to get behind me and now is the time.
“We went away to Spain and there was no pressure on me at all. It was about going in there and concentrating on the job, relaxing and settling down.”
Jordan Thompson:
“I think he (Gudino) is going to pose a few different looks… I think I’ve just got to go out there and enjoy myself. And again, I’ll put on another display or artistic violence. I’m looking forward to getting back out there and putting on a show for the fans.
“I believe in myself. I know what I’m capable of. Those who know me know what I’m capable of. For me, it’s about when the opportunity comes, you’ve got to be ready for it and take it. Which I’m sure I will be and when the time comes, I’m sure it will be special.”
Mario Angel Gudino:

“I’ve been taking up experiences around Europe. I’ve been in Belgium and Norway on my journey here. Come Saturday, it’s a great opportunity for me to extend that experience and hopefully take away a victory.”

Cyrus Pattinson:
“I know he’s very durable. I’ve not really stopped since April last year, no longer than a week off from the gym. It’s about building up momentum, getting through every fight. And I think that’s when you’ll see the best Cyrus Pattinson.
“It’s all about getting the rounds in. Going from three rounds straight in Essex, it’s a big jump going to eight… I obviously want to get to that level to start competing for titles.”
Thomas Whittaker-Hart:
“I’m happy that I’m out again and I can build on the momentum. I just want to keep busy and keep fighting… I can push on and keep looking for a title. I want to keep fighting and keep progressing to different levels. I am happy.
“I’m coming to win. I’ve had a lot of experience in the amateur game. I’m used to people commenting on it. You will see more skills. I’m happy about it and I’m looking forward to the fight and putting on a great performance.”
Luke Evans:
“I’m absolutely buzzing to be here… Manchester Arena, it’s what every kid dreams of when you come from Manchester. I’m just from down the road in Salford. Done a lot of tickets like you said. It’s just a very proud moment for myself coming from the small hall scene. This is my opportunity to take on the big stage and I have to take advantage of that.
“This is what dreams are made of. This is my opportunity and I’ve got to seize the moment. Most importantly, I’ve just got to enjoy it.
“In boxing, it’s a funny old game. You never know where you’re going to be or where you’re going to end up. So, I’ve got to take full advantage of this opportunity.”
James Metcalf:
“It’ll be good to get out again ahead of the big one in Spain next month.
“The best James Metcalf can win this fight, definitely.”

ERROL SPENCE JR. VS YORDENIS UGAS FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

ARLINGTON, TX. – April 14, 2022 – Unified WBC and IBF champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. and WBA champion Yordenis Ugás faced off at a final press conference on Thursday, two days before they meet in a welterweight title unification clash live on SHOWTIME PPV at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT this Saturday, April 16 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas headlining a Premier Boxing Champions event.

A confident Spence declared AT&T Stadium “my house” come Saturday and even predicted that if the fight is waged in close quarters, it likely won’t go the distance. Meanwhile, Ugás said he will lean on the resolve that has allowed him to overcome all manner of adversity in his life to power past Spence in the ring.

Just the 12th unification fight in the rich history of the welterweight division, Spence vs. Ugás will join other classic unification matchups at the weight class such as “Sugar” Ray Leonard vs. Thomas Hearns I and Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao.

Spence will look to add a third welterweight championship belt to his resume when he returns to fight at AT&T Stadium in front of his hometown fans for the third time. Ugás enters this matchup off of a career-best victory last August, as he retained his WBA title by stepping in for an injured Spence to defeat boxing legend Manny Pacquiao by unanimous decision.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Man Down Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at SeatGeek.com, the Official Ticketing Provider of AT&T Stadium.

Prior to fight night, PBC fighters previewed Spence vs. Ugás in a video HERE, via the SHOWTIME Boxing Twitter. Here is what the press conference participants had to say Thursday from Main Club North at AT&T Stadium:

ERROL SPENCE JR.

“It’s going to be action-packed on Saturday night. I’m looking to put on a great show and a great performance in front of my hometown fans. I know Ugás is coming to fight. I know his coach has a great game plan, but come Saturday night, I’m putting on a great show and another great performance. I’m looking forward to adding the WBA belt to my titles so I have three belts. That means there’s just one more to go.

“When people say I can’t do this or I can’t do that, I prove them wrong every time. I am the same guy I was before the accident and the injury. I feel like I’m better than that guy that fought Shawn Porter or Danny García.

“This fight might not go the distance. Ugás is a tough fighter. He’s a guy that embraces the fight and wanting to go toe-to-toe. If he has to, he’ll do anything to win. I’m that type of guy. I’m the type of guy that if I have to go toe-to-toe, I will. If I have to stay there and fight, I will. If we get in the clinch and start fighting, I don’t think it’s going 12 rounds.

“Everybody knows my motivation. I fight for my family, my friends, my city, the whole state of Texas. I want to be the three-belt unified champion of the world and I want to become the future undisputed welterweight champion of the world. The first ever to do it.

“This is my house. This is my hometown. I love the Dallas Cowboys to death. I love AT&T Stadium and I appreciate them giving me the hospitality and making this my home. Come Saturday night, I’m going to win another championship in the home of the Cowboys.”

YORDENIS UGAS

“I’m so excited for this fight. I have nothing but respect for Spence. He’s a great fighter and this is not only going to be a clash between us, but also between two of the greatest trainers in the world, so you’re not going to want to miss that either.

“Spence promises a knockout. I promise a win. Don’t miss it!

“I have a wise trainer. Somebody that has seen more boxing than most. But we have different opinions and I think that Spence is going to be one hundred percent. I prepared for the best Spence possible. That’s been my mindset throughout.

“People know my story by now. I came back from being 15-3 back in 2016 and ever since then, I have established myself as part of the elite in this division. If he’s the big fish, I belong in that same tank because I’m willing to swim with the big fishes whenever, wherever. I have been willing to do whatever it takes to get to where I am right now.

“I promise you blood, sweat, and everything that I have to give for my country and for my fans. For everyone watching the pay-per-view, we’re going to put on a great show and you’re going to see the same Ugás that put his heart and soul into this sport that means so much to me.

“I’m a warrior. I’m a competitor. I’ve been facing adversity ever since I was six or seven years old. I’ve been fighting ever since I was a little kid. This is nothing new to me. It’s going to be a great night for me but no different than any other fight that I’ve had throughout my boxing career.”

DERRICK JAMES, Spence’s Trainer

“Ugás’ trainer is looking for the same things I’m looking for on film. Salas is smart. He’s supposed to look for patterns and see what kind of shots the opponents’ throw. That’s what trainers are supposed to do. I’ll watch some of his fights; I watch enough. Just to pick up on tendencies and shots he throws and how he throws his punches so I can mimic them. And I’ll let Errol know that this is coming, or that is coming.

“Ugás’ biggest threat coming into this fight is what you can’t see. It’s his heart and his fortitude. It’s his desire to want to be great.

“We can go up to whatever weight he wants to go. We spar heavyweights on a consistent basis. Errol’s very physical as a fighter and he can fight up to 160, and maybe even higher. I’m not saying that’s what we’re going to do. He’d probably be comfortable with that because we are comfortable with being in there with bigger guys all the time.”

ISMAEL SALAS, Ugás’ Trainer

“This camp has been outstanding. We have been able to prepare in the best way for what is going to be a huge fight, and the biggest fight in the 147-pound division right now. We feel that the preparation that we have had, with no real adversity whatsoever, has been really great.

“Ugás is one hundred percent ready for this fight. Mentally we are very strong and we are prepared for any style. Every fighter has a different style and styles make fights. We are comfortable fighting a southpaw. Ugás showed and proved that he can already beat a southpaw in Manny Pacquiao.

“Spence is a warrior. We have two front-footed guys, but the one difference is that Ugás is more of a counter-puncher. Spence is physically amazing, and he’s strong mentally. But he’s never shown that he can move like Ugás.”

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, President of SHOWTIME SPORTS®

“The welterweight division has long been one of boxing’s most glamorous, most interesting and most popular divisions. A place where fighters like Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather have ruled. This Saturday represents a significant step for figuring out who is the best 147-pound fighter in the sport today.

“Three world titles are at stake and a three-title unification fits perfectly into what SHOWTIME is doing in 2022. That’s putting the best against the best in the most competitive matchups. This past weekend, we had a thrilling Fight of the Year contender with Sebastián Fundora and Erickson Lubin that people are still talking about. That’s what happens when you put two elite fighters in the ring against each other. You get that kind of action and that kind of competition. That’s exactly what we’re going to see on Saturday night.

“One of the disadvantages of having such a great main event is sometimes people overlook the undercard. In the co-feature, we have a really exciting young fighter in Isaac Cruz coming off giving ‘Tank’ Davis the toughest fight of his career. He is establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with.

“We’re here for Spence and Ugás. Two former Olympians. Two of the best in the division. Two outstanding family men. Two guys who are a credit to their sport. You’ve seen them on ALL ACCESS. We thank both of them and their camps for letting us in and allowing us to portray who they are outside the ring. We couldn’t be prouder to be associated with this event. Two fine young men. Two great sportsmen. Two elite boxers. One iconic venue with three world titles at stake. It’s an event not to be missed.”

Las Vegas – UFC® continues its run of shows at UFC APEX with an intriguing matchup in the strawweight division, as No. 10 ranked contender Amanda Lemos attempts to spoil the return of former champion Jessica Andrade. In the heavyweight co-main event, Tanner Boser plots to stop the undefeated up and comer Alexandr Romanov.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: LEMOS vs ANDRADE will take place Saturday, April 23 from UFC APEX in Las Vegas. All bouts will stream on ESPN+, with the prelims beginning at 3 p.m. PT/ 6 p.m. ET and the main card at 6 p.m. PT/ 9 p.m. ET.

She now aims to finish Lemos and begin her rise back to the top of the division.

Boser (20-8-1, fighting out of Bonnyville, Alberta) seeks to continue his ascent after an impressive knockout over veteran Ovince St. Preux in his last bout. The Karate expert, who has 10 wins by knockout and two by submission, now has his sights set on sending a message to the rest of the heavyweights and erasing Romanov’s undefeated record.

Andres Cortes Returns April 30th in Las Vegas Seeks 3rd Consecutive KO

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 14, 2022) – Undefeated super featherweight,
Andres Cortes (16-0, 9 KOs), who recently signed a multiyear promotional with Top Rank Inc., will return to action on April 30th, against Alexis del Bosque (18-5-1, 9 KOs), at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cortes vs. Bosque will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+.

“I am fired up to be on such a massive card and my goal will be to continue this knockout streak I have going, “stated the 24-year-old Cortes. “I have made big statements in my last few fights, and I want to keep that momentum going. I’m grateful that I’m starting to get noticed and now I am all-in on performing to the highest level of my abilities. I am chasing greatness and I am looking to get into the world title picture by the end of the year.”

In August of last year, Cortes scored a devastating first-round knockout against former world title challenger Genesis Servania (34-3, 16 KOs). A crushing right hand-left hook combo sent Servania to the canvass. Cortes followed up that great performance by stopping durable Mark Bernaldez (23-5, 17 KOs), by way of a third round KO. Both fights were seen nationally on ESPN. The boxing world is excited about the potential emergence of a breakout superstar in Cortes.

“I feel as good as ever and I am approaching my prime,” continued Cortes, who will be fighting for the first time as an officially signed Top Rank fighter. “I can’t wait to mix it up with the best fighters in the world. I look at all the great fighters Top Rank has promoted and it’s an honor to be on their roster. I’m ready to fight on these great cards, now it is my time to shine. I’m always going to entertain the fans and show them just how hard I have been working.”

“This is a great chance to continue on the momentum created with the last two fights we had with Top Rank,” said Luis Cortes, brother, and trainer of Andres. “Little bro has worked so hard for his first fight since signing with Top Rank. Andres takes great pride being promoted with Top Rank and wants to let everyone know he is very close to fighting for a world title.”

KELLY: “KEEP THE BELT WARM FOR ME!”

‘Ruthless’ Ryan Kelly (16-3, 8 KOs) is promising a clinical performance as he looks to defuse ‘The Newquay Bomb’ Brad Pauls (15-0, 9 KOs) when they meet in an eliminator for the British Middleweight Title on Friday May 13 as part of a huge night of free-to-air boxing at the Indigo at the O2, live on Channel 5.

Having moved up in weight and reconnected with coach John Costello, Kelly is preparing to launch his assault on a stacked domestic division. The 28-year-old says he has learnt from his setbacks and is confident of overcoming undefeated opponent Pauls and earning his shot at the British Title.

“I think a lot of people think I’m just a come forward fighter, which I’ve probably made the mistake of doing in the past, but I can box too,” said Kelly. “My nickname is ‘Ruthless’ and you’re always going to get a bit of ‘Ruthless’ but I’m also very clinical, and on fight night, that’s what you’re going to see, a clinical, ruthless performance.”

“I haven’t really looked into Pauls much because I believe on the night with the game plan set up by my trainer John, I’ll just need to box to instructions and I’m going to win. I really do believe it. I’m not taking it for granted. I know I’ve had a couple of losses, a couple of setbacks, and I’ve done a lot of things wrong in boxing, but now I’m in right place, and I’m going to come out with the win.

“I’m always in exciting fights and I think this is going to be a very live fight. On paper it’s a 50-50, some people might favour him because of his unbeaten record, but I believe I’m better, and it’s going to be my time.”

Kelly will be keeping a keen eye on the evening’s main event as Linus Udofia and Denzel Bentley battle for the vacant British Middleweight Title, which the Birmingham boxer will be hoping to get his hands on should he beat Pauls.

“Whoever wins just needs to keep the belt warm for me because I’m coming,” said Kelly. “I’m not in this game to make up numbers. I’ve got a couple of blips on my record but nothing I can’t come back from, and I’m coming back strong. ‘Ruthless’ Ryan Kelly against ‘The Newquay Bomb’ Brad Pauls, that’s a really cool fight, and one I’m looking forward to. Thanks to Wasserman Boxing and Channel 5 for having me on board. It’s going to be a good night.”

Josh Kelly (10-1-1, 6 KOs), Harlem Eubank (13-0, 5 KOs) and the hotly anticipated British Middleweight Title clash between Linus Udofia (17-0, 9 KOs) and Denzel Bentley (15-1-1, 13 KOs) will top a stacked card in the capital as Wasserman Boxing launch their first free-to-air event live on Channel 5 on Friday May 13 at the Indigo at the O2, in association with William Hill, Numan and Infinitum Entertainment.

Tickets are on sale now and available via www.wassermanboxing.com

ERROL SPENCE JR. VS. YORDENIS UGAS MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

ARLINGTON, TX. – April 13, 2022 – Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. said he was focused on scoring a knockout against Yordenis Ugas during a public media workout on Wednesday as Spence vs. Ugas fight week events officially kicked off with an outdoor session for fighters competing this Saturday, April 16 live on SHOWTIME PPV from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The event is headlined by WBC and IBF World Champion Spence Jr. taking on WBA World Champion Ugas squaring off in a welterweight title unification clash.

“Besides the Kell Brook fight, this is definitely the meanest I’ve been going into a fight,” Spence said on Wednesday. “I’m just ready to go.”

Ugas, who worked out before Spence, said that his reach, height and his “will and my heart” are going to be the keys to pulling off an upset.

Also entering the ring for the media workout were fighters competing on the SHOWTIME PPV undercard featuring exciting lightweight contender Isaac Cruz battling former champion Yuriorkis Gamboa in the co-main event, rising unbeaten José Valenzuela taking on former champion Francisco Vargas in a lightweight bout and all-action welterweights Cody Crowley and Josesito López dueling in the telecast opener at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Fighters entering the ring for SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® action prior to the pay-per-view also previewed their respective showdowns during an undercard press conference on Wednesday. Fights live on SHOWTIME and streaming on the SHOWTIME SPORTS® YouTube Channel begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT and feature WBA Welterweight Champion Radzhab Butaev facing unbeaten top contender Eimantas Stanionis in the main event, and unbeaten rising star Brandun Lee taking on Zachary Ochoa in a super lightweight bout.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Man Down Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at SeatGeek.com, the Official Ticketing Provider of AT&T Stadium.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from Texas Live! in Arlington:

ERROL SPENCE JR.

“It means everything to get a response like this in Dallas. It’s getting me pumped up. I’m ready to go. I’m ready to fight. I’m ready to put on a great performance in front of my hometown crowd.

“It’s eat or get ate. That’s all it is on Saturday night. Eat or get ate.

“Of course I’m going to win. But I’m going for the knockout.

“There’s nothing to elaborate on when I said I’m going for the knockout. It’s what I said. So if I get it, I get it. If I don’t, I don’t. I know one hundred percent I’m getting the victory, but I definitely want to knock him out.

“It’s a blessing and a dream come true to get the support of your hometown. People are coming out here to support me with their hard-earned money during a difficult time. It’s a school night and people came out to support me and I really appreciate it.

“I’m one hundred percent ready. I’ve been training hard. I know the task at hand. Training camp has been going great. I know what I’m capable of. You can expect and you’re going to see fireworks. It’s going to be a great show and a great performance.

“This is going to be a great event. I’m excited to be fighting at home in front of family and longtime friends. I think people are going to come out and support and it’s going to be a great night of boxing.

“I’m going to fight Ugas like I’ve been fighting everybody else. He’s a very good fighter. He trains hard. He comes from a Cuban background and he’s very dedicated. But I feel like I’m one hundred percent dedicated and in prior fights, I haven’t been as focused as I am right now.”

YORDENIS UGAS

“I’m excited and ready to fight in front of a great fan base on Saturday night here in Dallas. Spence is a respectful fighter and we have nothing against each other outside of the ring, I’m just ready for action.

“I’m a competitor, I’m a warrior and I came to fight 12 rounds strong. That’s the most important thing of all. That alone should make Spence uneasy.

“I know I’m the underdog. I came here to win. I will fight whenever, wherever, in anybody’s backyard.

“Spence can say whatever he wants. I’ll fight the way I always do, exchanging blows and coming forward.

“I’ve always been an underdog – six years ago and now, I’m used to it. Spence is the rightful favorite as a unified champion in his home city, but I came here to pull off the upset.

“I want all of Cuba to know that I fight for them with all my heart and soul, and I will do just that on Saturday night.”

ISAAC CRUZ

“I’m super excited for this fight and I’m very thankful for all the support I’ve received here in Texas. I can’t wait to put on a show for everyone Saturday night.

“The biggest lesson I learned from the Gervonta Davis fight is that I need to prepare physically and mentally to not give one inch to any opponent ever again.

“I come to give everyone a good, clean fight. Whether this victory comes by knockout or by decision, it’s going to be fine by me.

“I feel right at home in front of these fans. That’s why I’m even more motivated to give everyone a great show. You’re not going to want to miss it.”

YURIORKIS GAMBOA

“I’m really thankful to be in this position, especially in front of these people here today. I’m very excited to give everyone a great fight. I can’t wait to show the world what I’m capable of.

“No matter what has happened in the past, you have to have courage and the conviction that you can win. That’s what I’m going to have on Saturday night.

“Every fight is different. The key thing is that we’re getting ready to prove to everyone that I can come out on top Saturday night.”

JOSE VALENZUELA

“I’m extremely excited for this fight. This is a dream come true and I’m thankful every day for this opportunity to compete on this card.

“Vargas is a great fighter with a lot of really good experience. We just saw him give Isaac Cruz a hard fight last time out. So I’m training for him like he’s in his prime and I’m ready for whatever he brings.

“I think a win in this fight will put me on the radar and put me in line to face the top guys in the lightweight division. I’m going to put on a performance that puts everyone on notice.”

FRANCISCO VARGAS

“This is a great opportunity for me and it’s going to be great action with me and Valenzuela. I’m really looking forward to this fight on Saturday.

“Every fight provides valuable lessons. My last fight versus Isaac Cruz was against a young scrappy fighter with some tricks up his sleeve. I’ve learned from it and you will see that in this fight.

“He’s a good fighter who’s dedicated to the sport. But I believe that I have more skills and much more experience than Valenzuela.”

CODY CROWLEY

“Josesito has been in there with a lot of amazing fighters. He’s an amazing fighter himself. But when Cody Crowley comes to fight, that’s a dog in the ring. Saturday night you can expect us to go at each other from the first bell to the last bell. That’s what I bring every time.

“I’m a pay-per-view star in the making and everyone is going to find out what I’m about Saturday night. If you haven’t heard of Cody Crowley yet, make sure you tune in Saturday night.”

JOSESITO LOPEZ

“I’m just prepared and can’t wait until Saturday night. My hunger to win is strong. I want to keep competing against the best fighters in the world and fight for world titles. I’ll be ready to face anybody they put in front of me.

“Any time you see one of my fights, especially when it’s here in Texas, they know that I come to fight. It’s going to be one of the best fights of the night for sure.

“I have a deep love for Texas and I can’t wait to show off in the ring on Saturday.”

RADZHAB BUTAEV

“My win against Jamal James was a good win and it’s given me more confidence moving forward. I’m just as hungry as Stanionis is and I know what to expect from him. I’m completely ready.

“This is the kind of fight I like to be in. I like to make it tough in there and bang with my opponent on the inside. I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s a big honor to be on this card. It’s easily one of the best cards of the year and it’s a great opportunity to show off my skills and my boxing.

“Once I stepped into the gym with my trainer Joel Diaz, he told me that I’m the best welterweight out there and that I’m going to become champion. Now we have the belt and I’m growing and getting better with every fight.

“The main event is a great fight. I’m looking forward to seeing who wins so that I can face them next.

“I don’t make predictions for my fights. I have a goal and that’s to stop my opponent. That’s what I’m working to do.”

EIMANTAS STANIONIS

“I’ve dreamt all my life of this moment Saturday night. I was extremely happy when this fight officially came together.

“It would be amazing to be the first world champion from Lithuania. Everyone is expecting me to win and rooting for me to get it done. I want to make the dream a reality.

“For sure the fans are going to be in for an entertaining fight. This is going to be two trucks meeting in the middle of the ring and making a big explosion.

“We both have a dream to win the belt. We’re both training hard to reach our goal. This is going to be a banger. That’s what our styles always create.

“Spence has a lot to prove, he was out for a long time. He’s going to have to look good and it’s going to be a good fight against Ugas.

“I just want to hear the words ‘and the new’ on Saturday night, that’s it, it’s simple.”

BRANDUN LEE

“This means the world to me to be on a huge card like this. I’m going to show the world who I am on Saturday night.

“I’m looking at this as another opportunity to showcase my skills. I’m just moving one step closer to the goal of a world title with a win on Saturday.

“I don’t let my knockout streak get to me. The main goal is to win. If the knockout comes, I’m ready. That’s the plan Saturday night.

“I just stay focused and stay in the gym. Fighters get a little bit of fame and forget how hard they had to work to get there. I’m not going to be slacking.

“I am just blessed with power. A lot of people think you can create speed, but you can’t. You’re either born with it or you’re not. That’s the key to my power.

“I turn 23-years-old next week and I believe it’s time for me to start fighting the top-10 guys. Some guys may see more risk than reward fighting me, but eventually, they’ll have no choice.

“I don’t make predictions but I’m going to have my hand-raised on April 16.”

ZACHARY OCHOA

“I said yes to this fight immediately. These are the types of fights that I want. SHOWTIME always has big fights and I want to be a part of them.

“I know the type of fighter I am. I’ve matured over the years, I’ve had a great training camp and I can’t wait to fight.

“Lee is a good fighter, but my experience in the ring is going to be the difference. I’ve fought in every kind of venue you can imagine. This is my second time fighting at AT&T Stadium. Experience goes a long way, but at the end of the day, it matters what you do under those bright lights.

“My trainer Stephen Edwards, he’s really brought me to school. He’s one of the best trainers in the world. I’ve learned more with him than I did my whole career. I’m very confident heading into Saturday.

“This is going to be a great fight and I’m winning at the end of the day. There’s a lot on the line and I’m going to be the winner Saturday. Winning this fight would change everything for me. I really can’t wait to get into the ring.”

Championship Boxing Returns to Hialeah Park on Saturday, May 7th

Hialeah, FL / April 12, 2022 – Professional boxing returns to this iconic South Florida landmark for the second time this year on Saturday May 7, 2022 at 7 PM when Hialeah Park Casino, in association with Warriors Boxing and Rivalta Boxing, presents “Una Gran Noche De Boxeo Cubano 2.”

The card will be highlighted by two title fights, one featuring the undefeated Cuban heavyweight prospect and Mike Tyson look-alike Lenier “El Justiciero” Peró (6-0, 3 KOs) against Hector Perez (7-4, 3 KOs) for the NABO Heavyweight championship and the other pitting cruiserweight Anthony “White Chocolate” Martinez (12-1, 11 KOs) against #15 IBF contender David Light (17-0, 11 KOs) of New Zealand for the WBO International Cruiserweight title.

“Peró was a very accomplished amateur who won gold medals for Cuba at the Pan American Games and fought at the 2016 Summer Olympics,” said promoter Henry Rivalta. “He’s a fantastic prospect, a very technical and graceful fighter. But he needs to be ready to fight! Perez is super tough and he’s on the comeback trail.”

As for the Martinez-Light matchup, “This fight will be a major class test for the local fighter Martinez,” explained Rivalta. “Light has held three different regional cruiserweight titles and he’s looking to break into the IBF Top 10.”

Before the main events on the May 7 card, Cuban super-lightweight Orestes Velazquez (3-0, 3 KOs), coming off a victory in “the fight of the night” on the January 28 card at Hialeah Park, faces former WBO champion Juan Carlos Salgado (27-9, 16 KOs), Cuban welterweight Livan Navarro (11-1, 7 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time since his only defeat to face tough Mexican veteran Silverio Ortiz (37-29, 18 KOs), and Cuban super-bantamweight Ariel Perez de la Torre (7-0, 5 KOs) risks his undefeated status against Angel Pillado (13-3, 4 KOs).

But the fight that has most ringsiders anxious about is the professional debut of Cuban super-bantamweight Victor Abreu, who will fight early in the evening.

“This kid is really special,” said Rivalta. “He fought over 170 times as an amateur in Cuba, he’s incredibly well-built for a 122-pounder, and I’m predicting he will be a world champion before the end of 2023.”

Tickets for the fights will be on sale this Friday, April 15th through the Hialeah Park website at www.hialeahpark.com

Gavin Gwynne and Luke Willisface off ahead of MTK Fight Night

Gavin Gwynne and Luke Willis each made their intentions perfectly clear as they met prior to their British and Commonwealth lightweight title fight on Friday’s #MTKFightNight.
This week’s stacked show is broadcast live on IFL TV and takes place at York Hall in London, and also features an English super-welterweight title fight between Sam Gilley and Drew Brown.

Elsewhere on Friday’s card, Nina Hughes takes on Bec Connolly, plus Sultan Zaurbek, Carl Fail, Elliot Whale, Dean Richardson, Paul Ryan and Jimmy Croxson are all in action.

The fighters went head to head on Wednesday before Friday’s all-important fight night, and here’s what everybody had to say.

Gwynne said: “I’ve put everything into this camp, and I’m leaving on Friday with two belts wrapped around my waist. I can’t wait and I wish it was tomorrow. I just want to get in there and fight.

“I think it will be a fight of two halves. One of my strongpoints is my stamina and I could probably do 24 rounds if I needed to. I’ve always believed in myself, and that’s what’s got me this third crack at the British title.

“This is my time, and I know what I have to do to win. If it comes by stoppage so be it, or if it’s on points that’s fine, all I know is I’ll be leaving the ring on Friday as the British and Commonwealth champion.”

Willis said: “Talk is cheap, it will be me leaving with the belts. I respect Gavin and what he’s done, but the best version of me beats the best version of him, and on Friday night you’ll see.

“There is so much talent in Liverpool, and I want to thank Tony Bellew and MTK Global for getting me this shot at the British and Commonwealth titles, I’m going to grab it with both hands.

“This might be my first 12 rounder, but I’ve prepared for this not only the last 10 weeks, but my whole life. I have never stopped believing in me, and I always felt I would be a champion. On Friday night it happens.”

Hughes said: “I feel like I’ve been training for four months for this fight. I need to get this out the way first so I’m not looking past it, but after this fight, world titles are what I want.

“I’m just really excited to be stepping back in the ring again, so I can’t wait for Friday night. I know that I’ll be coming out with the win.”

Connolly said: “I always want to test myself against the best in the world and when I retire I can say that I’ve fought the best. I have every confidence in myself and I’m going to put on a cracking performance and go for the win.

“Anything can happen in boxing, one punch changes everything and it comes down to small margins, so I’m excited to go in there and show what I can do.”

O’Leary said: “The last time I was fighting was October, and I wanted to spend Christmas with my family. I’ve been back training really hard since January, and I have a great team around me.

“People haven’t seen half of what I can do, and I’m excited that you’ll see the best of me soon. It’s only a matter of time.”

Fail said: “I’m in the gym all year round and I just want to stay busy and stay active. We’ll get this opponent out of the way on Friday and then I want to move forward.

“I want to push for titles. I know that I can’t run before I can walk, but I believe that I’m ready and I will truly fight anybody.”

Richardson said: “It’s been two years since my last fight and a frustrating time, but I believe I’ve made a lot of improvements in the gym while I’ve been out, and on Friday night I will show it.

“York Hall is a great venue and it’s the home of British boxing. I’ve got another night fighting there and it’s going to be another win. We’ll get the momentum going again, and then I’m looking for the English title next.”

Croxson said: “I can’t wait. I have got this opportunity and now it’s down to me to perform, and I’m sure I will. I’ve been in the gym working hard and I’m going to 100% get the win on Friday.”

MTK Global Promoter Lee Eaton said: “It’s a great card. The top of the bill speaks for itself. British and Commonwealth titles is what fighters are involved in the sport for, so it’s going to be a special night at York Hall. Gavin is already the Commonwealth champion, and now he gets his chance to fight for the British title.

“Elsewhere on the card we have Sam Gilley in a great fight against Drew Brown, and also Nina Hughes and Bec Connolly finally getting it on. The winner of that should move on and hopefully go straight into a Commonwealth title fight.

“Pierce O’Leary is back and he is one of the most exciting prospects we have on the roster, and he’s one of the nicest kids you’ll meet too. After this it will be titles next, and he’s going all the way.

“Jimmy Croxson is making his debut, and I’ve known him since he was a kid, he’s grown into a man now, and I’m excited to see him make his professional debut. He’ll admit himself he wasn’t very good when he started, but he’s trained hard and put his whole life into boxing.

“Carl Fail is one of the best young prospects in British boxing. He was on Team GB and is now 5-0 already having taken on some tough tests. He’s got another difficult opponent this week, and then we’ll maybe look at a Southern Area title eliminator next.

“Dean Richardson has had two years out, but now he’s signed with MTK Global and we’re looking forward to getting him straight out and then into championship fights in the summer.”

Thompson Boxing’s featherweight contender Ruben “Drac” Villa (18-1, 5 KOs), who is co-promoted with Banner Promotions. Villa vs. Garcia, a 10-round bout, will headline Thompson Boxing’s “Path To Glory” event on Friday, April 15, 2022.

On his upcoming matchup with Ruben Villa:

“I think Villa struggles with my style of fighting, and they picked the wrong guy to face in his return. Villa is a good boxer, but I am not sure we can say he is an elite pro or even an elite fighter. He has skills, but he’s going to be in a dog fight, and I question his heart.”

On his recent training camp:

“Things have been great, I was given tons of time to prepare for this fight, and I am ready to be in Villa’s face for every minute of every round. He better have trained hard for this fight because I am coming.”

On fighting on Thompson Boxing cards:

“I am excited to be fighting on another Thompson Boxing card as this will be back-to-back outings for me on their platform. I like that Thompson Boxing offers streaming of the fight worldwide. Thompson always provides a great professional environment, and I am excited to show my skills on their card.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“Simply put I will take Ruben’s spot in the sport. I want to take everything he worked for and make it my own. This is a big opportunity for me and a win will lead to bigger fights against some big names.”

CHICAGO MIDDLEWEIGHT OLIVIA CURRY SIGNS WITH RICK RAMOS AND MEDIA COMPANY FIGHTSTARS.TV

Boxing-media company Fightstars.tv, proudly announces their Director of Female Boxing Operations, Rick Ramos, has signed two-time Chicago Golden Gloves Champion, National Amateur Championships finalist and once-beaten professional Olivia Curry (4-1, 2 KOs) to their team of female fighting stars.

Originally from Cincinnati, Curry was a kickboxer until an Ong-Bak movie she watched in college gave her an interest in the sweet science. “There was a gym nearby with a student discount. I took a class and it slowly took over my life until I switched over to amateur boxing and eventually turned pro,” laughed Curry.

Tall for a female middleweight at 5’ 9”, Curry is a more of a technical stylist with a great jab and a strong ability to adapt inside the ropes. “I really love the intellectual chess game of boxing,” she continued. “I have punching power which is hopefully exciting to watch, but I’m definitely more of a boxer than a brawler. You don’t’ get into boxing if you’re not competitive. I want to prove I can hang with the best fighters in the world and compete for world titles.”

A resident of The Windy City for the past two decades, Curry trains at Unanimous Boxing Gym with Head Coach Trinidad Garcia. She says the deal with Fightstars.tv is a great opportunity for her career.

“I’ve known Rick for a long time from the Chicago scene,” she explained. “I’ve sparred his fighters and still do and we have talked him about working with him in the past. He and my coach know each other well. So, he came to me and Trinidad to talk early this year and we thought the Fightstars.tv deal Rick brought to the table was a great opportunity. I’m very excited for the future because I feel I have reached a point in my career where I want more elite-level competition.”

Ramos says he’s happy to finally be working with Curry.

“I’ve known Olivia for a while now.,” he recounted, “we are from the same city. She’s always been tough and ready to fight. I’m excited to work with her because there are BIG money fights in her weight class (160).”

Curry, who will make her fighting debut under the Fightstars.tv banner this coming May in Iowa, says signing with Fightstars.tv comes as she’s rededicating herself to the sport after some soul searching.

“I looked at the pandemic as a wakeup call,” said Curry. “It was either time for me to go on to something else or re-dedicate myself. I thought about it and I didn’t feel done. I love the intensity of the sport. I thought it was time to take the next step and this is it. I still feel like I have so much to learn about the sport, if you look at someone’s career as bell curve, I’m still on my way up. So I want to become the best fighter I can be and have exciting entertaining fights that make people think this woman deserves to be here.”

Coyle returns to the US to train for May 21 showdown with Todd

St. Petersburg, FL (April 13, 2022) – Undefeated middleweight Connor “The Kid” Coyle has arrived in Florida for training camp with Head Trainer Jim McLaughlin ahead of his May 21 NABA middleweight title showdown against Antonio Todd at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL.

Splitting time between his native Northern Ireland and Florida, Coyle’s amassed a perfect 15-0 record with 7 wins by knockout. On February 19, Coyle broke down once-beaten Rodrigo Rodrigues en route to a fifth round stoppage.

Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Todd’s record is a deceptive 13-5 with 7 wins by KO. During the last year and a half, he’s amassed an impressive 6-1-1 record. Todd earned his biggest win to date on January 22, scoring a ten round majority decision over longtime contender Hugo Centeno Jr.

“Todd is very tough but this is the kind of fight I need,” said Coyle. “He’s much better than his record suggests and a few of his losses were close fights against top opponents. I’m happy to be back in Florida and know this is going to be a tough camp because I’ve got to be at my best to take home the NABA title on May 21.”

Coyle’s promoter, Jody Caliguire of Fire Fist Boxing, sees a win over Todd leading to much larger opportunities.

“Antonio Todd is no pushover and Connor has to be at his best if he wants to win impressively. This fight is on a great platform on Bally Sports Network and for the NABA title. If everything goes as planned, Connor will be rated as one of the top 15 middleweights in the world and the opportunities are limitless!”

Coyle-Todd will air on Bally Sports Network, the Bally App and Display TV.as part of the Bally Sports Entrobox Series at 9 PM ET.

AFTER FIRST PROFESSIONAL KO VICTORY EUMIR FELIX MARCIAL HEADS BACK TO JOIN PHILIPPINES NAT’L TEAM TO PREPARE FOR SEA GAMES TITLE DEFENSE

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (April 13, 2021) —  It’s back to work for Eumir Felix Marcial, the Philippines’ 2021 middleweight Olympic Bronze medalist, who scored his first professional knockout victory on April 9, on the undercard of the Erickson Lubin – Sebastian Fundora title fight in Las Vegas.  Marcial (2-0, 1 KO), a native of Zamboanga, Philippines, now training in Las Vegas, displayed the composure of a seasoned veteran to score a TKO of Isiah Hart (6-3-1, 4 KOs), of Mays Landing, N.J., at the 47-second mark of the fourth-round despite getting knocked down three times himself, once in the first round and twice in the second round in a firefight bout scheduled for six rounds.  That’s a lot of experience to get for a fighter in only his second professional fight.  Marcial, 26, will put his amateur jersey back on and depart for the Philippines on Wednesday to join the National Team as he prepares to win his fourth consecutive Southeast Asian (SEA) Games middleweight title, the first step toward gearing up to qualify for the 2024 Olympic team.  His previous Sea Games Gold medals were won in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

“I was happy that I won Saturday night against Isiah Hart.  I need to go back to the drawing board and fix a few things and I will be back stronger,” said Marcial.  “But first I will return to the Philippines for a few days of rest and then I will head to Thailand to train for the Southeast Asian Games which will be held in Vietnam.  I look to take my fourth straight gold medal.  It takes hard work to do that and I promise my full commitment to the Philippines in the upcoming SEA Games.  I would like to thank Senator Pacquiao and MP Promotions’ Sean Gibbons for all their support.  I look forward, as always, to bringing pride and honor  to the Philippines.  Lastly, thank you to all my fans for their continuous support.”

“Wow!  What a fight Eumir had on Saturday night!  They say you truly don’t know a man until his is knocked down, and in Eumir’s case it was three times, and how they get up. Well, we found out that Eumir has tremendous Filipino heart and his will to win emanates from it,” said Sean Gibbons, President of MP Promotions.  “I am so proud of how Eumir came back from adversity in the first few rounds and came on to stop Isiah Hart in the fourth round.  It was a great learning lesson.  We will make a few changes and then move on to bigger things.  Also, I support Eumir in his quest  to win his fourth consecutive Sea Games gold medal.  It is a great way to prepare for his third pro fight in July or August.  Senator Pacquiao also supports Eumir in his quest for Sea Games gold and representing the Philippines.”

After winning his pro debut — a four-round unanimous decision over Andrew Whitfield in Los Angeles on Dec. 16, 2020 — Marcial turned his attention to getting prepared for the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo.  In one of the most exciting bouts of the 2021 summer games, Marcial and top-seeded Oleksandr Khyzhniak, of Ukraine, battled tooth and nail in their semifinal battle.  Khyzhniak, who would move on to win the Silver medal, pulled it out in the third and final round by the narrowest of margins.  Marcial won the Bronze.  Another high water mark in Marcial’s amateur career was capturing a Silver medal at the 2019 World Boxing Championships.

Having made his name on the small hall circuit, the undefeated 29-year-old and former Southern Area Champion, is eager to make his mark on the big stage as he fights for the right to challenge for the coveted Lonsdale belt.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Pauls. “I’ve worked my way up the hard way, on the small hall shows, and finally I get my chance on the big stage. I’ve wanted it for so long, now I’ve got to go and win. It’s time to put up or shut up!

“The British title is my dream belt. It’s the sexiest belt in boxing because it’s probably the most credible. With the British Title there’s no easy fights, you have to fight someone good, and it holds a lot of credibility. This eliminator is a step towards my dream belt, so it means everything to me.

“I’ve watched a couple of videos of Ryan Kelly. I know it’s a tough fight. He’s got good punch power, 16 wins, 3 losses, but I think if I just stick to my game plan and listen to my coach and apply my strength then it’s 100% a victory.”

On the same night Pauls faces Kelly in eliminator for the domestic 160lbs strap, the Cornishman’s friend and training partner Linus Udofia will be fighting former champion Denzel Bentley for the vacant title.

“It’s a massive night for our gym and for our coach Terry Steward with both of us in big fights. First and foremost, Linus is my friend so I can’t help but be really happy for him. I see him in the gym every day working and grafting for it. You can see what it means to him, and you can see that he deserves it.

“It’s funny that we are at the same weight, and it could create a bit of a backlog, but he’s given me a verbal agreement, if he wins, he’ll have his voluntary and then he’ll give the belt up for me so I can fight for it, but first we both need to win on May 13. That’s all I care about and that’s all I think about,” said Pauls.

Josh KellyHarlem Eubank and the hotly anticipated British Middleweight Title clash between Linus Udofia and Denzel Bentley will top a stacked card in the capital as Wasserman Boxing launch their first free-to-air event live on Channel 5 on Friday May 13 at the Indigo at the O2, in association with William HillNuman and Infinitum Entertainment

Ruben Villa Training Camp Quotes

SALINAS, CA (April 12, 2022) – Featherweight world title contender, Ruben “Drac” Villa (18-1, 5 KOs), who is co-promoted by Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing, has wrapped up training camp in Salinas, California for his fight, Friday, April 15, 2022, as he battles tough veteran Horacio Garcia
(35-5-1, 25 KOs), of Guadalajara, Mexico in a 10-round main event.

This event titled “Path To Glory” will take place at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, CA. Doors open at 6:30 pm PT with the first fight starting at 8:00 pm PT. Tickets are priced at $50, $75, and $100, and are available for purchase by calling 714-935-0900.

Here is what Villa had to say about his recent training camp, his upcoming fight with Garcia, and more.

On his matchup with Horacio Garcia:

“I am glad to be back, and I want to thank my team, Garcia Boxing, Max, Sam, Kathy as well as my father for the support, as well as my promoters Thompson Boxing and Banner Promotions for getting me back in the ring. My opponent is a solid guy, he is talented, but I see myself as a world champion, and just made small mistakes in my last fight that cost me a world title. The experience I’ve gained makes me an even more dangerous fighter, and you will see that in this fight.”

On his recent training camp:

“Camp has been really intense and I’ll be in great shape. I recently opened a new form of my boxing gym in Salinas, California, and the big spark came this week when NFL Pro Bowler Patrick Willis visited the gym and worked out with me. Training can be very much the same thing repeatedly and getting a surprise visit by a legend really got me inspired to finish camp strong.”

On fighting back in Ontario, CA at the DoubleTree Hotel:

“It feels good to be back at the DoubleTree. I started my career on these cards, and to return is a good feeling as I know the venue and the fight week stuff very well. It is like visiting an old friend if an old friend could be a building. The fans always bring good energy there and I can’t wait to bring an exciting fight to everyone in attendance.”

On what a win will do for his career:

“I want to get back into the world title picture. I see the division as fairly empty outside of the fighter I lost to and we had a close fight. I spent my whole amateur career fighting the best fighters in the world, and after this fight I want to face the best fighters possible. I have a very good record, and now I am going for legacy with the goal to bring a world title fight to Salinas, California.
