Like Brady, the 25 year-old Areizaga is undefeated at 8-0 with four knockouts. The Moca, Puerto Rico native has a win over Addiel Perez Maldonado (3-0). Areizaga won a unanimous decision over Jose Rodriguez Crespo on October 28, 2023 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico,

Undefeated junior welterweight Giovanni Marquez takes on former world title challenger Jayson Velez in a six-round bout.

Marquez of Houston is 8-0 with five knockouts with wins over Nelson Morales (2-0) and Nicky Vitone (9-2-1). The 23 year-old Marquez is coming off a unanimous decision over Joshua David Rivera on December 1, 2023 in Houston.

Mitchell of Mississippi is 2-0 with two knockouts.

CARRILLO FINDS UPPERCUT HEAVEN IN MAIN EVENT; ERGASHEV DOMINATES; SHISHKIN BREAKS DOWN GUY AT SALITA PROMOTIONS’ “BIG TIME BOXING USA” LIVE ON DAZN FROM WAYNE STATE FIELDHOUSE IN DETROIT

DETROIT – March 28, 2024 – 2016 Colombian Olympian Juan Carrillo continued his undefeated tear through the light heavyweight division with a commanding two-shot KO over Virginia’s Quinton Rankin in the 10-Round main event of Salita Promotions’ “Big Time Boxing USA” event on Thursday, March 28, at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit and streamed live on DAZN.

Carrillo (12-0, 9 KOs) overcame a light wobbling at the fists of Charlotte, North Carolina’s Rankin in the first round to come back and stop Rankin (21-9-2, 16 KOs) with a pair of powerful uppercuts.

Despite Rankin’s ferocity at the weigh-in, Carrillo kept his cool and weathered an early storm to allow his superior technique to win the day.

Fighting along the ropes, Carrillo smashed Ranking with a pair of chin shots that ensured his workday was over. The time was:27 of round three.

Current IBF #14-ranked Shohjahon Ergashev (24-1, 21 KOs), of Detroit via Uzbekistan, returned to winning form with an easy demolition of proven veteran Juan Huertas (17-5-1, 13 KOs) Panama City, Panama, in the night’s 10-Round super lightweight co-main event.

To the delight of his many local fans, the powerful Ergashev moved forward behind his trademark clubbing shots and quickly wobbled the out-gunned Huertas. A southpaw left sent Huertas reeling and a follow-up bodyshot made sure the night’s work was over.

Coming off the first loss of his career, Ergashev reasserted himself as a premier power puncher at 140 lbs. with his impressive KO 1 at 2:00 of the round.

Dearborn Heights, Michigan’s Husam Al Mashhadi (9-1, 8 KOs) made quick work of journeyman Daulis Prescott (34-20, 26 KOs) Barranquilla, Colombia, in their scheduled-for-six-round super welterweight bout.

Al Mashhadi hurt Prescott badly with a right, then followed up with a barrage. Despite the wobbling Prescott’s protests, it was waved off at 1:47 of the very first round.

In a minor upset, William Townsel (now 7-1, 5 KOs) Portsmouth, Virginia, had too many more-refined skills for ambitious up-and-comer Nadim Salloum (12-1, 6 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York, via Lebanon, in an eight-round super middleweight fight.

“Turbo” Townsel was too fluid on offense and too defensively sound for the cruder Salloum.

Fighting out of the “Mayweather Shell,” Townsel landed nifty uppercuts on the inside and rocked Salloum with clubbing right hands from in-close repeatedly. Salloum tried but eventually resorted to loading up on shots later in the fight against the craftier Townsel to no avail, as Townsel piled up points.

The unanimous decision for Townsel was scored 79-73 and 80-72 x 2.

In the 10-round super middleweight broadcast opener, IBF #2 and WBO #10 Vladimir Shishkin (16-0, 10 KOs) of Miami, via Russia, made easy work of journeyman Mike Guy (12-8-1, 5 KOs) Sacramento, California, breaking him down and stopping him at 2:14 of round seven.

Shishkin had too many tools for the heavily muscled but under-gunned tough guy, sticking the Californian with withering body shots and clubbing head shots to Guy’s ambitious, but wide-of-the-mark return shots.

Shishkin stayed busy and, no doubt, kept his valuable #2 IBF ranking with the victory, but didn’t produce the highlight-reel KO that would have propelled his fortunes. Guy, to his credit, was tough and a professional survivor and probably could have gone on, but without any real chance of winning.

In a four-round untelevised middleweight scrap to start the night, Detroit’s Josiah Shackleford (2-0, 2 KOs) made quick work of cross-state rival Antwion McCollough (0-4) of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Shackleford dropped McCollough twice, the final time for good at 1:28 of round one with a quick right hand high on the head.

“It was a great night of boxing in Detroit, showcasing some of boxings best talent in the most exciting divisions,” said promoter Dmitriy Salita. “Shishkin is on a verge of a world title shot, Shohjahon Ergashev put himself back in the title picture and Carrillo showed he is a force to be reckoned with in the light heavyweight division.”

The multi-year, multi-event agreement solidifies Golden Boy’s commitment to bring local and international boxing stars and events to the heart of the Los Angeles sports scene and leverages the diverse programming at SoFi Stadium, YouTube Theater, and across Hollywood Park. As Golden Boy continues its expansion plans throughout 2024 and beyond, this will ensure fight fans will have boxing events year-round in the Los Angeles area.

“Golden Boy and Hollywood Park share a vision of bringing the highest quality of events to the Los Angeles region,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya. “We were the first to host an inaugural combat sports event at YouTube Theater in January 2023, and we couldn’t be more pleased to make history again by being the first to solidify a partnership deal of this magnitude with Hollywood Park.”

“We are proud to have a championship partner in our corner with Golden Boy Promotions,” said Adolfo Romero, Vice President, Programming and Booking for YouTube Theater at Hollywood Park. “YouTube Theater is the first Los Angeles venue to ink a multi-year agreement with a boxing promoter showcasing our commitment to this sport, and leveraging our year-round events at SoFi Stadium and across Hollywood Park to continue our diverse programming strategy.”

“I am excited to fight for the first time in the United States, and of all places Los Angeles,” said Arsen Goulamirian. “I know Zurdo wants to be a world champion, but he’s going to have to go through me first, but he will have to face a real cruiserweight. I have been telling my trainer, Abel Sanchez, that I wanted to fight here in the United States for years, and I am glad that I will be able to do this now.”

“I’m ready to become the first Mexican cruiserweight champion. When I made the move to this division, I knew I would have to face Arsen down the line.” said Zurdo Ramirez. “I feel comfortable at this weight class and will look to become the undisputed Champion. I want to thank DAZN, Golden Boy, the WBA, my team and family for all the support and I look forward to seeing everyone on the 30th.”

The cruiserweight clash for the WBA Cruiserweight Super World Championship will feature current champion Arsen “Feroz” Goulamirian (27-0, 19 KOs) of Yerevan, Armenia against former World Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (45-1, 30 KOs) in a 12-round fight. In the co-main event, Santa Ana’s Alexis “Lex” Rocha (23-2, 15 KOs) will participate in a 10-round welterweight fight against Fredrick “General Okunka” Lawson (30-4, 22 KOs).

Also participating in Thursday’s event was WBA Middleweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara and No. 1 rated mandatory challenger Michael Zerafa, who duel in a 12-round attraction, plus WBC Flyweight World Champion Julio César Martínez and unbeaten contender Angelino Cordova, who duel in the pay-per-view opener at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

In addition, fighters stepping into the ring for PBC on Prime Video action beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT faced off ahead of their respective matchups that stream live via free access to all fans, regardless of Prime Membership or purchase of the PPV. The live streaming presentation will be topped by rising middleweight Elijah García taking on contender Kyrone “Shut It Down” Davis in a 10-round attraction, while super welterweight contenders Serhii Bohachuk and Brian Mendoza open the action in a battle for the Interim WBC Super Welterweight Title.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are available now through AXS.com. The main event is promoted in association with No Limit Boxing.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday:

TIM TSZYU

“We’re finally here. It’s been a long road, but I’ve dreamt of this moment my whole life. Everything I’ve done has led to this point.

“The show goes on and destiny awaits. Saturday night we get to fight for the belts. It’s all about collecting belts and collecting legacy. We’re going to show that the Tszyu name is the greatest boxing family of all time.

“It’s quite hard to prepare for a fighter like Fundora. But a true champion rises to the occasion. I came here as a throwback fighter and that’s what I want to be. I’m living the way I speak. I’m here to do exactly what I say.

“Of course he’s got height, but we all bleed the same blood. There’s no difference between us. I’m taking inspiration from Mike Tyson and everything he did into this fight.

“Every moment has led to this. In 2009 I came here to watch Manny Pacquiao fight Miguel Cotto and it was in my brain that this was where I wanted to be. Now I see Miguel Cotto sitting right here and it’s unbelievable.

“He’s coming in for the brawl. He’s good at what he does and it’s all about eliminating what he does and showing what he’s not good at.

“This is step one to where I want to be. There’s plenty of big super fights to be made in the near future.”

SEBASTIAN FUNDORA

“What a change of events. From opening the card to headlining in the fight capital of the world of Las Vegas. This is a big opportunity that we’re going to take advantage of on Saturday night.

“This is the moment and the time for me to become world champion. My sister did it six months ago, and now it’s my turn.

“Losses happen in boxing. I made a mistake and I paid for it. Everything has still lined up the way it should be and now we have a chance to find out who the best fighter at 154 pounds is.

“I expect the best from Tim Tszyu. This is the best fight you can make in the division. He’s number one right now and we’ll crown a new champion on Saturday night.

“I always look at myself as the underdog. Now It’s just time to prove again what we’re made of. I’m so thankful to fight for my dream on Saturday night.”

ROLANDO ROMERO

“Everybody thinks this is gonna be a difficult fight, but I think this is gonna be an easy fight. He’s gonna run right into something, because he’s stupid.

“He’s gonna throw and throw and throw again. He does the same stuff over and over again. I’m ready for it.

“This is a great opportunity that I’ve been given. I’m already champion though, I didn’t need this fight. He’s the one who has to take advantage.

“I wanted this fight because it’ll be fun for the fans. This is a fight the fans have been asking for and I’m doing everyone a favor by giving it to them. Make sure you tune in.

“I feel like I’m back at home training with Ismael Salas. He’s had a big influence on me throughout my whole career really.

“I’m not giving you the belt, but I can give you the chihuahua chain after the fight.”

ISAAC CRUZ

“I have learned a lot from my recent fights. I know that I don’t want to leave it up to the judges. I’m in great shape and ready to throw hard punches from round one through round 12.

“If he thinks I’m stupid, then he’s even stupider. If he thinks I’m just gonna lay down, he’s very mistaken. He’s gonna realize it on Saturday night.

“I’ve trained so hard to represent the Mexican people on Saturday night. I always fight to make them proud and this will be no different.

“Rolly was talking trash during the face off, but his bark is far stronger than his bite. I just want to hit him repeatedly in the face when the time comes.

“I’m here to wipe Rolly’s smile off his face and take his belt. That’s it. Isaac Cruz is going to be the new world champion.”

ERISLANDY LARA

“I’m thankful to everyone who made this fight possible. I’m ready to go, I’m pumped up and I’m ready to give everyone a great fight. The time for talking is over.

“I prove my worth inside of the ring and Zerafa will see that on Saturday night. I’m excited to be back, because I feel ready and strong.

“I’m gonna work hard in the ring and I feel like I’m gonna knock him out. I think it’s gonna happen before the sixth round.”

MICHAEL ZERAFA

“Saturday night ends with me as the new WBA world champion. Mark my words.

“Hopefully we’re coming back to Australia with three world titles, one for myself and two for Tim. Now it’s time to do it.

“Having Nonito Donaire in my corner for this fight has been huge. He’s a legendary fighter and there’s a lot to learn from him. I’m here to take what’s rightfully mine. I’ve been ready for this fight for so long.

“This is a huge night for Australia. We’re putting a small country on the big map and we’re taking over starting Saturday night.”

JULIO CESAR MARTINEZ

“I’m really thrilled to be back after a couple setbacks. In the end, it’s all about what happens inside of the ring on Saturday.

“I’m ready to face anybody at any time. I say it all the time and I mean it. Everyone will see what I mean on Saturday night.

“I want to give the fans a great fight. I’m coming out one thousand percent ready and it’s going to be fireworks.

“I’m so excited and motivated for this fight. Like I always say, we are here to come after everything, with no fear.”

ANGELINO CORDOVA

“I’m really happy and excited to be part of this event. I hope that everything turns out well and everyone enjoys this great card.

“I’ve been picturing the moment of becoming world champion for a long time. I can’t wait until that moment comes and I can make my country proud.

“I don’t need to make a prediction, but you will see sparks fly when that bell rings on Saturday night.

“Whatever Martinez brings, I’ll be ready. I’m very confident in myself and all of the training we’ve done for this fight.”

ELIJAH GARCIA

“We’re gonna have a great night of fights on Saturday. I have a lot on my plate right now with Davis. He’s experienced and dangerous. If I’m not prepared, he will win. So I’m going to be ready to perform at my highest level and take it from there.

“I don’t really feel pressure to be honest. Last year was a great year, but now it’s a new year. We got great experience that will help me going forward. It’s all about performing right and listening to my corner.

“This is a really big fight for me. Davis is a dog. He doesn’t quit. He’s for real. He has nothing to lose right now, so I knew that I had to give 100% in training.

“This is going to be another big fight for me.”

KYRONE DAVIS

“We flew out here to make a point and win on Saturday. I trained hard. This isn’t a fight where I had two weeks-notice or saved the show. This is a fight where I can show everyone who I am.

“Being the underdog doesn’t matter to me. No one can fight the fight but me and him. What other people think doesn’t matter.

“I think you’re going to see a lot of things come together for me on Saturday night. I’ll get in there and fight with anybody, but I really had time in this training camp to prepare. He’s gonna feel it.

“Garcia is a great fighter and I appreciate him taking this fight. Show up on Saturday and watch us show out.

“A win on Saturday puts me in position for a world title shot and that’s what we’re looking for.”

SERHII BOHACHUK

“I’m very happy to be here for a big show. I’m going to show my fans and everyone in the world a great fight. I can’t wait for Saturday night.

“Brian is a good fighter with good experience. This is a big fight for my career. I’m only focused on the fight in front of me.

“I’ve gained a great deal of experience in recent years. I’m 100% ready. My loss was not a loss, it was just experience. I’m a smarter fighter now and I’m ready for all of the big fights.

“I’m going to show on Saturday everything I can do. My time is coming. This is going to be a great fight.”

BRIAN MENDOZA

“Hard work is what got me here and I’m so thankful to be in this position. I was getting ready for a fight when the call came. We’re always grinding. Once I got the call, there was no hesitation.

“I think Tszyu and Bohachuk are similar in some ways, but Tszyu is more polished. I gained a lot of experience fighting Tszyu and I’m going to keep going after the best.

“I have no doubt that my conditioning is going to be there, so I’m ready to turn it up in the ring on Saturday. I’m an underdog again and everyone knows how I fight when I have a chip on my shoulder.

“I’m still number two in the division behind Tim Tszyu and I want to show why on Saturday night. Make sure you tune in.”

ESTRADA AND RODRIGUEZ CLASH IN EPIC SHOWDOWN IN PHOENIX ON JUNE 29

One of the best fights in boxing is official – Juan Francisco Estrada will defend his WBC and Ring Magazine World Super-Flyweight titles against Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday June 29, live worldwide on DAZN.

Estrada (44-3 28 KOs) steps back through the ropes to defend the title for the first time after beating old foe Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez in the third installment of their epic trilogy in December 2022, a thrilling encounter he edged via majority decision in front of a packed crowd in Glendale, Arizona.

The 33 year old’s win over the Nicaraguan star made it 2-1 in his favor across their famous trilogy, and now the Mexican meets the hottest young champion in the game that has already claimed the scalps of two of the four modern-day Super-Flyweight kings.

Rodriguez (19-0 12 KOs) had his own epic night in the arena 30 minutes from downtown Phoenix venue that he’ll face ‘Gallo’, when he unified at Flyweight by stopping Sunny Edwards in the ninth round of a stunning performance in December.

The 24 year old will look to build upon that elite showing to try to wrestle back the title he won against Carlos Cuadras in February 2022 at the Footprint Center. ‘Bam’ successfully defended the title twice, first stopping Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in June in his San Antonio backyard, and then seeing off Israel Gonzalez in Las Vegas in September.

It’s a huge weekend for Mexican sports fans in Phoenix, with the national soccer team taking on Ecuador on Sunday in the Copa America at State Farm Stadium, and the clash between Estrada and Rodriguez promises to be one of the fights of the year as two pound-for-pound stars lock horns in a stunning battle.

“I’m very happy to announce my return against Bam Rodriguez,” said Estrada. “After my last victory against Chocolatito we took a good break and was able to spend quality time with my family and my kids and heal an injury I was dealing with.

“I will be more than ready since I know Rodriguez is a dangerous fighter, but in June it will be clear that there’s is plenty of ‘Gallo’ excitement to come.”

“Fighting for my fourth world title against a legend like ‘Gallo’ is huge,” said Rodriguez. “This is a fight I’ve been wanting for a while and I’m ready to prove myself once again.

“On June 29, you guys will see another special performance. AND THE NEW!”

“What a fight this is,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “When the best fight the best, excitement is guaranteed – and there’s no doubt that these are two of the best fighters on the planet.

“There are so many plot lines for us all to get our teeth into in the build-up to this incredible clash – but when the bell goes, the talking will stop, and we will be treated to something very special. Both fighters are to be commended for taking on the challenge – will ‘Gallo’ prove too much too soon for Jesse, or can ‘Bam’ add Juan’s name to his already incredible CV?”

“Another blockbuster fight to add to our already unrivaled schedule”, said Alfie Sharman, VP DAZN. “Bam is not messing around; first he takes on and beats Sunny Edwards – one of the most avoided fighters in the sport – in December and now he faces a legend of the sport in June in Estrada. Do not miss this fight! Tune in live, June 29, only on DAZN”.

An announcement on ticket on-sale dates will be made soon.

SUPER-LIGHTWEIGHT STAR DALTON SMITH EXTENDS PROMOTIONAL DEAL WITH MATCHROOM

Sheffield Super-Lightweight star Dalton Smith has signed a new multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing following his career-best win over three-time World Title challenger Jose Zepeda on Saturday – shown live worldwide on DAZN

The 27-year-old former amateur sensation, who is trained by his father Grant at the Steel City Gym, captured the vacant WBC Silver Title by stopping Mexican American Zepeda with a brutal body shot in the fifth round that left the former contender reeling on the canvas.

‘Thunder’s’ brilliant win puts him in line for some huge fights in the 140lbs division, with plenty of options on the table for one of the hottest properties in boxing, who has also picked up the British, Commonwealth, English, WBC International Silver and WBA Intercontinental Titles.

A dream fight at Hillsborough, home to his beloved Sheffield Wednesday, remains at the top of Smith’s bucket list, but the STN-managed talent also has dreams of fighting Stateside – with former WBC and WBA World Champion Regis Prograis expressing his desire to face off with the heavy-hitting Brit.

“I’m delighted to extend my contract with Matchroom,” said Smith. “I’ve been with them since my debut and over the years I’ve built a great relationship with Eddie, Frank and all of the team. I really feel like part of the family now. I think I’m going to have a long career with Matchroom; I’m in great hands and I wouldn’t be with anyone better.

“They’re the best for a reason. It would be nice to start my career with them and then also finish it at the end. Alongside STN Sports, who have been outstanding managing my career, I have the team in place that will give me the opportunity to achieve all my dreams.”The win over Zepeda is going to propel my name up into the rankings, but I knew a few people who were saying that it might have been a fight too soon. Don’t get me wrong, I knew the pressure was on but not many people can rise to the occasion. I knew I had to remain switched on and focused throughout, knowing the performance would materialise. “This was not a Zepeda who was on the slide. He has only lost at the world level and it is not like he has been beaten easily. He is a world-class fighter and he is proven at the world level. I need that performance to prove that I, too, belong at the world level.

“My number one target is to crack Hillsborough, have a big fight there, but having an away day in America is every fighter’s dream also, I’ve got many years in my career and some great things I want to achieve and going over there to America is definitely on the cards.

“If you look at the 140lbs division, there are some big names and there’s going to be some special nights, I have been a fan of Regis Prograis for a very long time. It would be great to fight him, but there are plenty of options and some big fights to be made. My main goal is to work towards a fight at Hillsborough Stadium. I don’t mind whoever it is against; if it is for a World Title, we will fight them there.” “I’m delighted to extend our promotional deal with Dalton Smith who I believe is a World Champion in waiting,” said Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn. “When he produces performances like that against Jose Zepeda, it makes it very easy to do my job.

“After such a special win at the weekend, the next one is going to be even bigger. That is when we can start opening up the top tier of Sheffield Arena, going from 5,000 to 7,000 and then to 9,000 people and that is when you can start thinking about going to Hillsborough Stadium. There’s some huge fights out there for Dalton in the Super-Lightweight division and I’m excited for the next steps.”

Andres Cortes to Attend Oscar Valdez vs. Liam Wilson Fight Eyes, Potential Showdown with Winner

LAS VEGAS, NV (March 27, 2024) – Top Rank’s undefeated super featherweight contender Andres “Savage” Cortes (21-0, 12 KOs), currently ranked #3 by the WBO, will be in attendance at the highly anticipated Oscar Valdez vs. Liam Wilson fight for the WBO interim title. The event is set to take place this Friday, March 29th, at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, and is being promoted by Top Rank.

Cortes, who currently holds the WBO Inter-Continental title along with the WBC Silver belt, will be sitting ringside at the event, closely observing the action as Valdez and Wilson battle it out for the interim title. With his eyes set on the winner, Cortes sees this fight as a potential future showdown in the super featherweight division.

“I’ll be watching the Valdez vs. Wilson fight closely because I see myself facing the winner in the near future,” said Cortes, born and raised in Las Vegas. “This is a significant matchup in the division, and I’m ready to take on the challenge against whoever emerges victorious.”

Known for his confidence and skill inside the ring, Cortes emphasized his belief in his abilities and willingness to face any opponent in the division. “I firmly believe that I am the best fighter in the super featherweight division, and I’m prepared to prove it by taking on all comers. I’m eager to showcase my talents and continue my journey towards becoming a world champion,” he added.

MATÍAS MAKES HOMECOMING DEFENSE AGAINST PARO ON JUNE 15

Subriel Matías makes a homecoming return to Puerto Rico when he defends his IBF World Jr. Welterweight title against Liam Paro at the Coliseo Juan Aubín Cruz Abreu in Manatí on Saturday June 15, live worldwide on DAZN.

TICKETS GO ON SALE ON APRIL 5 AT TICKETERA.COM

Matías (20-1 20 KOs) landed the vacant IBF Jr. Welterweight title last February, forcing Jeremias Ponce to retire after five rounds of their clash in Minnesota, and successfully defended his title against mandatory challenger Shohjahon Ergashev in November, forcing another retirement, this time after six rounds in Las Vegas, continuing his incredible record of finishing all of his victories inside the distance.

The 31 year old puts the title on the line for the second time in a hotly anticipated clash that marks his return to fighting in his homeland for the first time since November 2019, a 12th fight at home and the most important so far for the fearsome puncher who is eager to put on a show and move towards unification battles.

“I am super excited to be able to be in front of my people defending the title that we had such a hard time getting,” said Matías. “The mentality will always be the same and in front of my people I don’t even have to say it, they know me. The Pride of Maternillo.”

Paro (24-0 15 KOs) is looking to spoil the party and the Australian challenger has no fear in entering enemy territory to do so in his first World title fight. The 27 year old was at his spiteful best in his last outing, flooring Montana Love twice in a six-round bludgeoning in San Francisco in December. The unbeaten southpaw was previously ruled out of a first World title fight with Regis Prograis through injury, but now lands the chance to rip the title from one of the most feared champions in the sport, and Paro is champing at the bit for his opportunity.

“I’ve waited my whole life for this opportunity,” said Paro. “Fighter’s fight and I can’t wait to fight the boogeyman in his backyard.”

June 15 represents Matchroom’s first event in Puerto Rico, and it’s the first fight with Matías after he signed a co-promotional deal with Matchroom and Fresh Productions.

“Puerto Rico is preparing for a world-class event with the expected second defense of champion Subriel Matias,” said Juan Orengo, Fresh Productions. “We expect a night full of action and excitement for boxing fans. I thank the Mayor of Manatí, Honorable José Sanchez for his commitment and collaboration to make this event at the home of the Osos de Manatí.”

“The celebration of this important event headed by Subriel Matias in our city’s coliseum not only highlights local talent, but also has a significant impact on our economy and tourism,” said Mayor of Manatí, Honorable José Sanchez

“Sporting events of this magnitude attract visitors from all over which boost the economic activity of our city through spending on lodging, gastronomy, transportation and other related activities. In addition, by highlighting Manatí as a destination for high-caliber sporting events, we are strengthening our position in the tourism sector and promoting long-term economic growth.

“We are excited to see the benefits this event will bring to our city, both in terms of sporting prestige and economic development, and we look forward to welcoming the fans who will come to enjoy this exciting event in our coliseum.

“I am so excited to be bringing Subriel back home for his second World title defense,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s an honor for Matchroom to be heading to Puerto Rico for the first time and there’s no doubt that Subriel and Liam will produce an epic battle to mark the occasion.

“We want to thank the Mayor of Manatí, Honorable José Sanchez and his office for working with us to make this happen, and we promise to deliver a night to remember on June 15.”

Tickets for Matías vs. Paro will go on sale on April 5 via Ticketera.com

Christian Mbilli-Mark Heffron Super Middleweight Main Event & Arslanbek Makhmudov-Junior Fa Heavyweight Battle Set for May 25 at Gervais Auto Center in Shawinigan, Canada

SHAWINIGAN, Canada (March 27, 2024) — Super middleweight contender Christian “Solid” Mbilli, who recently signed a co-promotional contract with Top Rank, will defend his WBA International and WBC Continental Americas titles in the 10-round main event against Mark “Kid Dynamite” Heffron on Saturday, May 25 at Gervais Auto Center in Shawinigan, Canada.

In the 10-round heavyweight co-feature, the man known as the “Lion,” Arslanbek Makhmudov, will fight former amateur nemesis Junior Fa.

This international event will be presented by Eye of the Tiger, in collaboration with the Cataractes and the City of Shawinigan. Mbilli-Heffron, Makhmudov-Fa, and undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.

“It’s always a source of pride to bring major fights to Mauricie, but this time, I can undoubtedly say we’re reaching another level. These are highly risky international fights we’ll present on May 25, where there will be no room for error. But, with Mbilli and Arslanbek, we aim for the top, so we must be ready to face real challenges,” said Eye of the Tiger President Camille Estephan.

Mbilli (26-0, 22 KOs) has run roughshod over a host of super middleweight hopefuls, including former world title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi and Ecuadorian puncher Carlos Góngora. Most recently, as the co-feature to the Artur Beterbiev-Callum Smith main event in Quebec City, he battered Rohan Murdock en route to a sixth-round stoppage in front of more than 10,000 spectators.

Mbilli said, “No matter where he comes from and who he is, my opponent will have to arrive ready because on May 25, I will once again demonstrate why I belong with the elite of the super middleweights. Mark Heffron is just another boxer on my path. I respect him, but I won’t be gentle with him, just like with the others. I am convinced that we will deliver quite a fight in Shawinigan, but victory is the only option for me.”

Heffron (30-3-1, 24 KOs), from Oldham, England, is a former British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion who once fought to a draw with one-time world title challenger Denzel Bentley. He rebounded from last September’s TKO defeat to Jack Cullen with February’s second-round TKO over Serhii Ksendzov.

Heffron said, “I am incredibly excited to be coming over to Canada to box Christian Mbilli. I have followed Christian’s career and always thought we would end up boxing each other. We are two of the most exciting super middleweights out there, so this will be an excellent fight that the fans will love. I am very confident of winning this fight. I wouldn’t be traveling all the way to Canada if I wasn’t sure of the win.”

Makhmudov (18-1, 17 KOs) steps back into the ring in Shawinigan to restart his conquest of the heavyweight division. After suffering a knockout defeat and a double-hand fracture against Agit Kabayel last October, he will attempt to settle an old score. Fa bested Makhmudov via five-round decision in 2012 in Mumbai, India, as part of the World Series of Boxing.

“I’ve already faced him in a very close fight that he won when we were amateurs, so I am more than determined to avenge that defeat,” Makhmudov said.

Fa (20-3, 11 KOs) is an eight-year pro who started his career 19-0 before dropping a decision to fellow New Zealander Joseph Parker in 2021. He was part of last December’s “Day of Reckoning” super event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, hanging tough before being knocked out in the seventh round by unbeaten contender Frank Sanchez.

Tickets go on sale at 9 a.m. ET this Friday, March 29, on the Ovation network at www.ovation.qc.ca. The full card, which will also feature Mauritian adoptees Wilkens Mathieu and Mehmet Unal, as well as Alexandre GaumontLuis SantanaChristopher Guerrero, and Jhon Orobio, will be unveiled at a later date.

TSZYU VS. FUNDORA & ROLLY VS. PITBULL MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

LAS VEGAS – March 27, 2024 – Fight week events officially kicked off Wednesday with media workouts and grand arrivals for fighters competing on the stacked inaugural PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video taking place this Saturday, March 30 as four world title fights enter the ring from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The media workout featured rising star and reigning world champion Tim Tszyu and all-action contender Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora, who meet for Tszyu’s WBO title and the vacant WBC 154-pound world title in the main event, plus 140-pound world champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Mexican star Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, who square off in the co-main event.

Also participating in Wednesday’s event was WBA Middleweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara and No. 1 rated mandatory challenger Michael Zerafa, who duel in a 12-round attraction, plus WBC Flyweight World Champion Julio César Martínez and unbeaten contender Angelino Cordova, who duel in the pay-per-view opener at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are available now through AXS.com. The main event is promoted in association with No Limit Boxing.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from MGM Grand:

TIM TSZYU

“It’s time to become a global star now and take another continent. I feel at home. This is where I belong. Looking at all these posters, this is where I’ve always dreamed of being. I feel at peace.

“I live by that word. Never retreat. I fear no one. I will go into any fight, it doesn’t matter. Two week notice, twelve days, tall guy, whoever they put in front of me, I just have to adapt, change and take over.

“With another world title on the line, it’s another opportunity for greatness. In the record books, we’d be the second unified family in the world to ever be in this position, so for me there’s so much on the line. There’s so much at stake. It’s just a wonderful time to be alive.

It’s great that both Zerafa and I are coming in and going for world titles. It’s a good time for Aussie boxing. Right now, it’s hot… red hot.

“The only way to win is in convincing fashion. It’s what I’ve always done. It’s going down one way, KO.

“This will be a classic. When we’re talking about classics, I’m hoping it’s going to be one of those fights that’s replayed forever.”

SEBASTIAN FUNDORA

“This is where I stamp the start of my legacy. It took us a millisecond to accept this fight. We were ready for the opportunity. We were already fighting for the WBC, now they threw in the WBO. It was an opportunity we couldn’t pass over.

“The height difference is just an everyday thing for me. I’m always taller than everybody, so this is just another day at work.

“Bohachuk and Tszyu are both similar, Bohachuk being a little bit taller, of course. Other than that, we have a pressuring, hard-hitting, orthodox fighter in Tszyu, the same in Bohachuk.

“My last fight was more than a learning experience; it was a reminder. In this sport you cannot make mistakes, and if you do, you pay for it.

“My father got his first world champions with my sister six months ago. We’re going to do it again this Saturday. He’s going to be Trainer Of The Year in my eyes.

“March 30, tune in. It’s going to be a great fight. We’re going to have another Fundora crowned as champion.”

ROLANDO ROMERO

“I am blessed to be fighting in my hometown and I can’t wait for Saturday night for the bell to finally ring.

“I was killing myself really bad to make 135 pounds. It had been like that for a good minute. This weight is great for me, but I also want to move up to 147 pounds. That is where all of the fun is.

I’ll do whatever. I’m not ducking anybody. I’ll go after anyone.

“Isaac Cruz is a small guy. He was big the other day. He looks a little smaller now. Anyone can think about setting a fast pace until they get punched in the face by me.”

“Cruz is the first fighter that I don’t have to go and chase. It is going to be a lot of fun. I don’t have to set any traps. He sets himself up for them.”

ISAAC CRUZ

“This is a very big and important second chance at a world title for me. I’m not going to come out with my hands tied, I’m ready to throw. I am prepared for whatever he wants to do.

“This is perhaps the best training camp I have had in my career. That is all due to the work I have put in with my Dad and the whole staff that have been here supporting me all the way.

“I don’t feel any pressure. Pressure means nothing to me. I am here to be world champion. Period.”

ERISLANDY LARA

“I’m really happy to be back here, and I want to thank you all for your support. I’m looking forward to this weekend. Zerafa is a high-quality fighter. He’s here for a reason. He’s a contender. On March 30, we’ll see who’s better inside the ring.

“The motivation comes from the day-to-day and the training, from wanting to get better each and every day. I can guarantee you that at my age, I feel in tip-top shape, both physically and mentally. I’m ready to go.

“I’m taking things year by year. But I’m focused on the moment. I’m focused on this Saturday and winning this fight, taking things step by step.

“I’m going to give you the best of me, and I hope to come out with the win on Saturday. That’s all I can do, so that’s what I’m going to do.”

MICHAEL ZERAFA

“This means everything to me. I want to bring back that world title. This is my life and this is more than a fight for me.

“This fight is dedicated to my sister, who is fighting her own fight at the moment. She’s suffering with breast cancer, and this fight is for her. She’s in her own fight for her life, so 12 rounds with Lara is nothing compared to that.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have Rachel and Nonito Donaire in my corner – they’re huge artillery going into this fight. That’s kept me sane and kept me exactly where I need to be pushing the pace. No stone’s been left unturned. We’re here now. We’ve traveled to the other side of the world, not to be an opponent. We’re here to take what’s rightfully mine.

“I’m a huge fan of Lara, even prior to us becoming opponents. He’s a great mover, but he’s getting old. I truly believe he’s held the belt for way too long. He’s just looking for a pay day with Danny Garcia or one of those guys. I’m there to upset the plan and take what’s rightfully mine.

“I’m fully focused. I’ve been here before when I fought Kell Brook and Peter Quillin. This is just another night for me. I’m grateful to be fighting at such a huge stadium in front of all these fans. I thank you for all the love and support, but I’m fully focused on the task ahead.”

JULIO CESAR MARTINEZ

“Cordova knows how to move, so we are ready for anything. We can go toe-to-toe and fight an all-out war. We can also fight tactically with the reach. We are going to come at him with everything.

“We are going to come after Cordova, pressure him, and make sure he feels it.

“I am here to make history. This is the beginning of a path to go after all four world championship belts. I want to be the undisputed champion.”

ANGELINO CORDOVA

“I am so excited to show everyone what I can do on Saturday night. You are going to see sparks fly.

“I just came here to fight and win a world title. That is what I am going to do. It’s going to be an exciting night. God willing, I will bring the world title back to my country.”

“My message to the fans is to keep fighting, because dreams do come true.”

Andrew Moloney-Pedro Guevara Interim Junior Bantamweight Title Showdown Confirmed as New Co-Feature to Lomachenko-Kambosos Super Fight at RAC Arena in Perth & LIVE on ESPN

PERTH, Western Australia (March 27, 2024) — The opponent has changed, but the stakes are just as high for Australian standout Andrew Moloney. Pedro Guevara will now fight Moloney for the vacant WBC Interim junior bantamweight world title on Sunday, May 12 at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia.

Guevara replaces former world champion Carlos Cuadras, who was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a torn Achilles suffered in training. Moloney-Guevara will be the co-feature to the vacant IBF lightweight world title showdown between Vasiliy Lomachenko and George Kambosos Jr. In other world championship action on the bill, WBA bantamweight world champion Nina Hughes looks to turn back the challenge of one-time world champion Cherneka “Sugar Neekz” Johnson.

Promoted by DiBella Entertainment, Top Rank, Ferocious Promotions, TEG Sport and Duco Events, Lomachenko-Kambosos, Moloney-Guevara and Hughes-Johnson will be broadcast in prime time in the United States on Saturday, May 11 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+.

“I’m grateful that Top Rank and my team were able to get such a great opponent so quickly and to still be fighting for the WBC Interim world title,” Moloney said. “Guevara has only lost to world champions, and each of his defeats have come by either split or majority decision. I look forward to being the first person to beat him convincingly and making a massive statement.”

“This is a fantastic opportunity. Moloney is a great fighter, but I want the WBC green belt,” Guevara said. “It’s an honor to be part of the Lomachenko-Kambosos event. I’m very grateful to Top Rank, All Star Boxing and Bxstrs Promotions for making this happen. I will not let my Mexican people down.”

Moloney (26-3, 16 KOs) is unbeaten when fighting on Australian soil and looks to continue his climb back up the 115-pound rankings. After suffering a 12th-round stoppage defeat to Junto Nakatani for the vacant WBO junior bantamweight world title last May, he returned in December with a convincing decision over Judy Flores in Melbourne, Australia. Guevara (41-4-1, 22 KOs), from Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, is a former WBC light flyweight world champion who made two world title defenses in 2015. He challenged Kenshiro Teraji for that title in 2017, dropping a majority decision. Guevara saw his 10-fight winning streak end when he lost a split decision to Cuadras last November for the WBC Interim junior bantamweight world title. In February, he outlasted Lamberto Macias via 10-round decision in Mazatlán.

In other undercard action, streaming live and exclusively on ESPN+ at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, knockout sensation Imam Khataev (6-0, 6 KOs) steps up against Ri?ards Bolot?iks (20-7-1, 8 KOs). Khataev, who trains in Sydney, Australia, earned a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. As a professional, he has yet to be pushed past the third round.

Two action-packed heavyweight fights, which will take place after the main event, have been added to the card. Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne (31-5, 27 KOs) returns to Australian soil to face New Zealand’s Hemi Ahio (21-1, 16 KOs) in an eight-rounder. The last time Browne fought in Australia, he shocked Junior Fa with a first-round knockout on the first Kambosos-Devin Haney card in Melbourne.

And, in an all-Australian 10-rounder, Faiga Opelu (16-4-2, 12 KOs) will battle former amateur standout Joe Goodall (10-2-1, 9 KOs). Opelu hopes to notch his second straight win, while Goodall loos to rebound from last November’s stoppage defeat to Nigerian knockout artist Efe Ajagba.

Lomachenko-Kambosos, Moloney-Guevara and Hughes-Johnson final tickets including ringside hospitality on sale now at Ticketek.

The final tickets for this event are selling across all categories are on sale now at Ticketek and VIP NOW for hospitality, and when these are gone, the event will be a sellout.

PHOENIX (March 27, 2024) — Mexican warrior Oscar Valdez (31-2, 23 KOs) will lock horns against Australian former world title challenger Liam Wilson (13-2, 7 KOs) for the WBO Interim junior lightweight world title this Friday, March 29 at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

In the co-feature, WBC/WBA/Ring Magazine champion Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada (25-0, 9 KOs) and WBO/IBF ruler Yokasta Valle (30-2, 9 KOs) will collide for the undisputed minimumweight crown.

Valdez-Wilson & Estrada-Valle headline a stacked card streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+. First bell is set for 6:10 p.m. ET/3:10 p.m. PT, and the co-feature will begin at approximately 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.

The undercard will feature rising contenders and prospects from the Top Rank stable, including lightweight Raymond “Danger” Muratalla (19-0, 16 KOs), who returns in a 10-rounder versus Xolisani Ndongeni (31-4, 18 KOs), and Mexican Olympian Lindolfo Delgado (19-0, 14 KOs), who will face compatriot Carlos Sanchez (25-2, 19 KOs) in a 10-round junior welterweight showdown.

Phoenix-based Sergio Rodriguez (10-0-1, 8 KOs) will square off against Sanny Duversonne (12-6-2, 9 KOs) in a six-round middleweight tilt.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with No Limit Boxing, tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.com.

At Wednesday’s press conference, this is what the fighters had to say.

Oscar Valdez

“I’m going to be ready. I was preparing myself for a world championship fight. Then we got the news that it’s now for an Interim title. So, I’m more than excited and prepared, and we’re going to show that.”

“I was taking this fight as seriously as a world championship fight. I know Liam Wilson. He’s a tough fighter. I was there when he fought Emanuel Navarrete, and he sent him to the canvas. So you better believe that I’m coming with everything because I’m expecting that same Liam Wilson.”

“Liam Wilson is a dangerous fighter. But that makes it more exciting. And the Interim title adds fuel to the fire. I’m very motivated, and I will do everything possible to win this fight.”

Liam Wilson

“Every fight for me now is a world title fight. So, I’ve prepared really hard for it. This is my second run at a world title. And I’ve shown in the past that if I can get a second run, I can be very dangerous. I’m very ready for this fight.”

“I’m glad he was there {for my fight against Navarrete}. The whole world saw what happened. I should have already become world champion. This fight between me and Valdez should have already happened. I won the belt that night. It wasn’t awarded to me. But that’s just the way things played out. But, we’re here now and we’re going to settle the score.”

“I’ve grown as a person. I’ve grown as a fighter. I’ve had a year to reassess my abilities. So, I’m better prepared now. It has all led to my second run at a title.”

Seniesa Estrada

“This means everything. This is something that I have been wanting for a long time. It’s something that my team and I have worked so hard for, so I’m not going to let this moment slip away.”

“For me it’s personal, but I’m still professional. I’m not trying to fight her on stage or anything. We had our back and forth. But the talk is over. It’s time for us to get in there.”

“Now it’s about women’s boxing. It’s about us getting in there on Friday night and putting on a great performance for everybody. And it’s about showing the world that women’s boxing is here, it’s on the rise, and we are great.”

Yokasta Valle

“For me, it would be a dream come true to make history for women, for boxing. I’m more than enthusiastic for this week, and I’m looking forward to it.”

“On my end, it’s been professional. That’s the way I see it. I’ve trained hard for a great fight. This isn’t personal. I respect her as the champion that she is. And in the ring, we will see who is the real champion.”

Raymond Muratalla

“These last two fights have been impressive. I believe I’m ready for that title shot.”
“Come Friday, it’s going to amazing in Arizona. I can’t wait to put on a show. I can’t wait to feed off the crowd.”

Lindolfo Delgado

“I’m on a mission with myself to be the best version of myself. I haven’t reached that version yet. So, I have to push myself each time, and for that, I have to get better with each fight, not worse. I have to keep moving forward to try and improve with each camp and each fight.”

“He’s a good fighter, and we know him as he was a teammate of mine on the Mexican national team. We went to different places to compete. But now this is a totally different thing. We’re concentrated and we’re prepared. We know it’s going to be a hard fight, but we’re prepared.”

Richard Torrez Jr.

“Every time, you’re just trying to get better from your previous self. And do I think I’m getting better from my previous self.”

“It’s really hard for me to picture the long-term plan. Because I have so many short-term goals in front of me. So, I just want to keep winning. Whatever Top Rank has in store, it’s up to them and my dad. On my end, I will get through any obstacle.”

Sergio Rodriguez

“This is what I want to do, and I want to continue to do it as long as I can.”

“I want to put on another great performance. Even if it’s not a knockout, I want my people to be happy with my fight.”

Emiliano Fernando Vargas

“I want to dominate. There’s something about Arizona fans. It’s something special about here. I’m young. I’m hungry. I know where I’m supposed to be. I just want to be great. That’s all I want to do.”

“I’m just grateful to have this support system behind me. This sport gets lonely. If I’m cutting weight, if I’m doing my miles, I’m calling my brothers and saying, ‘Come run with me!’ It doesn’t matter if it’s 12 in the morning, if it’s one in the morning, if it’s two in the morning. That’s my support. That’s my backbone. If they’re throwing four punches on the bag, I’m throwing six, and that’s how we’ve always been.”

Top Rank Presents Historic Doubleheader: Oscar Valdez vs. Liam Wilson; Seniesa Estrada vs. Yokasta Valle

Top Rank Boxing on ESPN presented by AutoZone: Valdez vs. Wilson & Estrada vs. Valle will be presented live this Friday, March 29, at approximately 11 p.m. ET/ 8 p.m. PT exclusively on ESPN+. The event takes place at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona.

In the 12-round junior lightweight main event, Mexican warrior Oscar Valdez will face Australian former world title challenger Liam Wilson.

Valdez (31-2, 23 KOs), the fighting pride of Nogales, represented Mexico at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. As a pro, he won world titles in two weight classes. After a competitive fight against Olympic gold medalist Robson Conceição in 2021, Valdez suffered his first pro loss in a unification battle against Shakur Stevenson in 2022. He bounced back with a decision victory in a rematch against Adam Lopez in May 2023 before suffering a points loss against Emanuel Navarrete last August.

Wilson (13-2, 7 KOs) is a five-year pro who made his U.S. debut versus Navarrete for the vacant WBO junior lightweight title last February. Wilson dropped Navarrete and almost scored the upset in the fourth round before being stopped in the ninth. He rebounded with triumphs over Carlos Alanis last August and Jackson Jon England in December.

In the co-feature, WBC/WBA/Ring Magazine champion Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada and WBO/IBF ruler Yokasta Valle will collide in a highly anticipated showdown to crown the first-ever undisputed minimumweight champion.

Estrada (25-0, 9 KOs) is a 13-year pro and two-weight world champion. She signed with Top Rank in 2022 and shut out Jazmin Gala Villarino in November of that year. In 2023, she picked up the WBC strap against the previously unbeaten Tina Rupprecht in March and retained her unified titles with a points verdict over Leonela Yudica in July.

Valle (30-2, 9 KOs) seized the vacant IBF atomweight world title by overcoming Ana Victoria Polo in 2016. After an unsuccessful bid for the WBO light flyweight title against Naoko Fujioka in 2017 and an interim title loss to Rupprecht in 2018, she snatched the IBF minimumweight world title from Joana Pastrana in 2019. Valle added the WBO title to her collection with a win over Thi Thu Nhi Nguyen in 2022 and has since defended her unified crown four times, including a decision over Anabel Ortiz in November.

The undercard begins at 6:10 p.m. ET/ 3:10 p.m. PT.

Calling the action will be Hall of Famer, Timothy Bradley, Jr., Mark Kriegel, and Bernardo Osuna.

ERGASHEV AND SHISHKIN SEEK IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCES TO MAINTAIN THEIR POSITIONS ON THE WORLD STAGE HIGHLIGHTING “BIG TIME BOXING USA” THIS THURSDAY, MARCH 28 STREAMED LIVE ON DAZN FROM WAYNE STATE FIELDHOUSE IN DETROIT

DETROIT – March 27, 2024 – While 2016 Colombian Olympian Juan Carrillo will be looking to continue his undefeated professional record in the night’s 10-round light heavyweight main event against veteran Quinton Rankin, two other transplanted Detroit-based fighters in the Salita Promotions stable: recent world-title challenger Shohjahon Ergashev, and super middleweight contender Vladimir Shishkin, will be fighting to regain or maintain their positions in the world rankings.

The trio of exciting fights highlight the next installment of “Big Time Boxing USA” presented by Salita Promotions this Thursday, March 28, at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit and streamed live on DAZN (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT). Tickets for the live event are on sale now and can be purchased online HERE or in-person at the Wayne State Fieldhouse Box Office.

“These fights are really lined up to be exciting because there are truly big fights on the horizon with victories on Thursday night,” said Dmitriy Salita, President of Salita Promotions. “Shishkin is deserving of a world title fight and has the skills and pedigree to beat anyone in the division, while Ergashev is eager to show that he’s still one of the best fighters at 140 pounds. Super middleweight and super lightweight are two of the deepest divisions in the sport and these fighters are right in the mix.”

IBF #14-ranked Ergashev (23-1, 20 KOs), who will be entering the ring for the first time since his unsuccessful challenge for Subriel Matias’ IBF World Super Lightweight Championship last year, will take on Panama City veteran Juan Huertas (17-4-1, 13 KOs) in the 10-round super lightweight co-main event, while IBF #2 and WBO #10 Shishkin (15-0, 9 KOs) returns to battle the always tough Mike Guy (12-7-1, 5 KOs) in the 10-round super middleweight broadcast opener.

32-year-old Ergashev had looked, at times, unstoppable while dominating other then-undefeated prospects in nationally televised showdowns, including a TKO 3 over unbeaten Sonny Fredrickson and a unanimous decision over Mykal Fox, but ran into the fists of Matias, while also suffering a leg injury that hampered his performance, last November.

Ergashev, who has continued to work with renowned trainer SugarHill Steward for the fight against Huertas, will be looking to use the leverage of an impressive performance to regain the top-10 ranking he previously enjoyed.

However, if the slugger’s confidence was affected by the loss to Matias, he could be in for a rough night against Huertas, who in his nearly 11-year boxing career has held several national and regional championships, including the Panamanian Super Featherweight, WBA Fedecentro Super Featherweight, WBA Fedelatin Super Featherweight, and WBO Latino Lightweight titles.

Against Sacramento’s Guy, Shishkin will need to pull through victorious if he is to keep his valuable #2 ranking for an eventual lucrative and potentially star-making shot at Canelo Alvarez’s IBF World Championship.

‘ROCKY’ HERNANDEZ RETURNS AGAINST LUGO IN MEXICO ON MAY 11

Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez makes his return to the ring against Daniel Lugo at Palenque de la Féria National de San Marcos in Aguascalientes, Mexico on Saturday May 11, live worldwide on DAZN, with Erika Cruz defending her WBA World Super-Bantamweight title against Nazarena Romero.

Hernandez (34-2 31 KOs) was part of one of the fights of the year in October when he took on O’Shaquie Foster for the WBC World Super-Featherweight title, falling agonizingly short in Cancun after an incredible 11thround led to a final round stoppage win for defending champion Foster, with Hernandez ahead on the cards.

The 26 year old will be determined to return to winning ways as he plots a path towards another shot at World honors, but Lugo (27-2-1 18 KOs) has his own plans to gatecrash the party at 130lbs, and facing Rocky in an all-Mexican battle over 12 rounds live on DAZN represents the biggest night of the 29 year old’s career.

“People have been counting me out since my loss,” said Hernandez. “On May 11, I will make a statement – ‘Rocky Never Left’.”

“First and foremost, I would like to thank God, Matchroom, Paco Damián and my team for another amazing opportunity,” said Lugo. “We are back in the gym working hard and preparing for war. Rocky Hernandez is one of the best fighters in my division, however, I am up for the challenge.

“I know the importance of this fight, a win over Rocky Hernandez will open up many great opportunities. For all the boxing fans that will be watching on DAZN, we will give you a Mexican war.”

The co-feature of the night sees Cruz defend her WBA strap for the first time against mandatory challenger Romero.

Cruz (17-2 3 KOs) became a two-weight World ruler by taking the title from Mayerlin Rivas in November, outworking the champion in Los Angeles to claim the crown via majority decision. Cruz previously held the WBA belt at Featherweight before taking on Puerto Rican star Amanda Serrano in an epic undisputed battle in New York in February 2023, with Serrano coming out on top in a memorable clash.

‘Dinamita’ is excited to be getting back into action and putting her belt on the line, and intends to put the rest of the champions at Super-Bantamweight on notice.

“I’m stepping into the ring not just to defend my title, but to conquer,” said Cruz. “Romero may be the mandatory opponent, but my sights are set on bigger dreams. Yamileth Mercado, Ellie Scotney, Segolene Lefebvre – I’m coming for all the belts. Romero won’t be the one to stand in the way of my destiny. Viva Mexico!”

Romero (13-0-1 7 KOs) gets a second crack at a title that looked well within her grasp at the halfway stage of her clash with former champion Rivas in June. The Argentine welcomed Rivas to Buenos Aires and floored the champion in the third round before an accidental headclash led to a nasty cut above Romero’s left eye, and the fight was ruled a technical draw.

The 29 year old gets the chance to get her hands on the title once again, and travels to Mexico to spoil Cruz’s plans.

“I think my time has come,” said Romero. “In my life nothing was, is, or will be easy. I was born for this, and I feel like the best of all. I prepare like a champion; I think like a champion, and I need to live like a champion.”

“Our Mexico shows have been a revelation and this promises to be no exception,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “The championship rounds that Rocky and O’Shaquie served up in October were sensational. Rocky has not gone away to feel sorry for himself, he’s redoubled his efforts and is more determined than ever to reach the very top, starting with an all-Mexican war against Lugo on May 11.

“I can’t wait for the clash between Erika and Nazarena, which promises to be so explosive. Erika guarantees excitement every time she steps through the ropes and Nazarena will be desperate to get her hands on the title at the second attempt; all the ingredients are there for a classic.”

An announcement on ticket on-sale dates will be made soon.

The event will be one of the biggest boxing shows yet in the Central Valley, and will take place live from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, and broadcast worldwide on DAZN.

JOSE RAMIREZ, U.S. OLYMPIAN AND FORMER UNIFIED WORLD CHAMPION:

“I am really happy that we can bring this level of an event to Fresno. I am proud to represent my home of the Central Valley. We want to be able to spotlight this area and show the world that we have some of the hardest working people here that feed the world.”

“I have been training hard for five weeks in Riverside with Robert Garcia, and there are less than 4 weeks left until fight night. I can’t wait to see everyone come out for my first fight with Golden Boy.”
VERGIL ORTIZ, JR., UNDEFEATED SUPER WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER:
“I am really excited to be fighting for the first time in Fresno. I spent some time here during my recovery, and I absolutely loved it here.”

“I am excited to be back. I want to stay active – I want to fight at least four times this year. Being the co-main event to Ramirez is an honor, we sparred each other at the beginning of my career. I know I am close to a world championship fight, and hopefully that will happen this year.”
OSCAR DE LA HOYA, CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS:
“For Jose’s first fight under the Golden Boy banner, he wanted to make a statement and fight Barroso for the world title who said he was unavailable. Ramirez then went to #1 contender Sandor Martin who also was unavailable. Proving that he will fight anyone, Jose will instead face a highly skilled, former two-division world champion Rances Barthelemy in a 12-round super lightweight fight.”

“A true knockout king, Vergil Ortiz Jr. is on the verge of an opportunity to become a world champion. He is a generational talent, who will show off his power to the Central Valley. We hope to keep him very busy this year; we are hoping that he fights at least four times a year.”

“Training camp is running smoothly,” Gerula noted. “I am focused on fighting a southpaw for the first time in my 26+ years. I’m so excited for this fight. I moved from Winnipeg to Las Vegas in 2020 with the singular goal of winning my next World Title – March 30th is THE DAY! “Granite Chin Box Off” to launch May 11th 4-fighter, 1-night super middleweight tournament

QUINCY, Mass. (March 26, 2024)  – Granite Chin Promotions (GCP) has announced the launching of its innovative one-night tournament, “Granite Chin Box Off,” on Saturday night, May 11, featuring a quartet of throw-back super middleweight fighters from New England headlining the “Rumble at the Rink” pro boxing card, at Quincy Youth Arena in Quincy, Massachusetts.

The quartet of super middleweights will fight in three-round bouts (4th round of sudden death if needed in case of a draw) early in the evening and the two winners will advance to the five-round main event (6th round of sudden death in the event of a draw) to determine the champion of what promoter Chris Traietti plans to be an annual tournament, which has been sanctioned by the Massachusetts Boxing Commission.

All four fighters are aggressive and gutsy who come to fight, which translates into a memorable evening for fans.

“This tournament has been an idea I have been flirting with since 2021,” GCP president Chris Traietti said. “I didn’t want to pull the trigger on it until I felt as though I had some of the initial concerns worked out and I had the right four guys. It has all come together now! There is no combination of fights with these four that won’t be action-packed right from the opening bell. This is something Granite Chin plans to do annually, so once this inaugural tournament is complete, we will assess it to see if any improvements are needed to get one ready for 2025. Thank you to the fighters for their passion in being part of something special like this and the Massachusetts Commission for all its help in navigating me to getting all the safety issues address and handled so it could be sanctioned.”

Here is a breakdown of the four “Granite Chin Box Off” challengers:

James “Pitbull” Perkins (13-1-1, 9 KOs), Lynn, MA

Perkins is the pre-tournament favorite based on his pro record and quality of opposition. A gravedigger during the day, Perkins suffered his lone loss last August to Steve Sumpter (9-0, 7 KOs), losing an eight-round majority decision for the vacant IBA America Super Middleweight Championship.

“I’m really looking forward to this event. I’ve always wanted to fight in a tournament because I never fought in the Golden Gloves or any amateur tournaments. I decided to turn pro after my sixth amateur fight. It’s even better that the event is being held at a hockey rink because I grew up my whole life playing hockey. I started skating at two years old and played all the way through high school (St. Mary’s of Lynn).

“I’m prepared to deal with whatever comes at me. I know who all the fighters are, but I know Clark a lot more than the other fighters. Me and Clark have fought on the same card a number of times. I like Clark and he’s a tough guy, but if we end up in the ring together, it will be all business. We won’t be friends when we are in there. At the end of the night, I’m very confident I’ll be the winner of the tournament.”

Anthony “The Gentle Savage” Andreozzi (5-3, 2 KOs), Swansea, MA

A former Massachusetts Middleweight Champion, Andreozzi has recovered from a brutal leg/ankle injury suffered more than a year ago, returning this past February 24th within a second-round knockout of Igor Pessoa.

“It’s (tournament) breaking boundaries for sure. It’s the type of tournament where emotional control will be important. You can’t blow your load in the first round of the first fight and still expect to succeed. I have a few hundred wrestling matches and over a dozen karate matches. I’m used to the emotional control necessary to effectively do violence twice in one night. I can’t wait!

“Ryan Clark is a great guy. We’ve done rounds before my fight with Kyle Cusick (April 22, 2022). Perkins went six hard rounds with a former teammate of mine. Bernard seems like a good dude, so nothing personal against him.”

Bernard Joseph (6-1, 4 KOs), Dorchester, MA

Joseph has won his last two fights and has been active with four fights in 2023 and this will be his second of 2024. The 33-year-old will also have a hometown advantage fighting in nearby Quincy.

“It is different (tournament format), but it comes down to the way we train. I do a lot of sparring and that will be good for me. It comes down to training and getting my body used to the break like in sparring. I could be fighting four rounds and then six.

“I’m a pro now, fighting six rounders, but not with a long pause between fights like in this tournament. It will give me time to re-hydrate and get ready for the second fight of the night. I’ve seen video of all the other fighters and I’m not bad-mouthing anybody, but I can’t not feel that I’m the favorite to win it all.”

Ryan Clark (4-5, 2 KOs), Barrington, ME

?

A natural middleweight, Clark is moving up the most weight in the tournament, something he is well aware of but not overly concerned. Another action-packed fighter, Clark’s record is misleading because he’s as tough as they come and capable of defeating any of the other three challengers.

“It’s (tournament) is a great idea. Chris (Traietti) is a smart guy, and this tournament will provide entertainment for the fans, and it’ll be a challenge for the fighters. I applaud his idea. I typically fight at 160 and this tournament has me fighting in a little bigger weight class. I like the challenge.

“I know Tony and Perkins and I respect them. They’re talented. This (tournament) is similar to sparring. I spar five or six rounds, hang around talking, get in some other training, and then get back in the ring to spar again. This isn’t too different.”

Additional matches will soon be announced.

Card subject to change.

Tickets are on sale to purchase at www.granite-chin-promotions.ticketleap.com.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. ET, first bout at 7 p.m. ET.

The main event is presented in association with TGB Promotions.

“I’m excited and honored to be working with Golden Boy Promotions,” said Jose Ramirez. “I know this next chapter of my career will be full of excitement as I chase to be the best and fight the best.”

“I’m very excited and fully focused on April 27th; I’m ready to bring the heat against Ramirez,” said Rances Barthelemy. “This fight isn’t just about victory…it’s about earning another world title shot so I can accomplish my goal of becoming a three-division world champion. Get ready for fireworks, Fresno!”

In a very special co-main event, the undefeated knockout monster Vergil Ortiz Jr. (20-0, 20 KOs) of Grand Prairie, Texas, will measure up against Thomas Dulorme (26-6-1, 17 KOs) of Carolina, Puerto Rico in a 10-round super welterweight fight. Ortiz Jr. is a fight away from an opportunity for a world championship and is returning to the ring after a colossal, first-round knockout this past January 6 in Las Vegas.

“I have spent a few weeks in Fresno in 2023 and I grew to love the city,” said Vergil Ortiz Jr. “I’m looking forward to putting on a great show for the fans out there, and I am content that we are staying active. 2024 is looking to be a great year for me.”

“I’ve been waiting for another big fight and this is exactly what I have wanted,” said Thomas Dulorme. “Vergil is a good fighter. I know him very well from years of training alongside him. One thing I can say is that the fans are going to get an all-out war!”

“I am thrilled to announce this doubleheader coming to Fresno’s Save Mart Center on Saturday, April 27,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya. “Both Jose and Vergil are knocking on the door of world championships, but to get to that next level, they will need to get past two guys who have faced the best of the best during their careers. With these two stars appearing atop the kind of stacked card the Golden Boy delivers on each and every show, April 27 is going to be a night to remember.”

“Another huge night of boxing for our subscribers at DAZN,” said Alfie Sharman, VP of DAZN. “From April 20 through June 1, we have an unmatched run of shows around the world from Haney vs. Garcia, to this Ramirez and Ortiz doubleheader to the return of Canelo to the platform in an all-Mexican affair for the ages. All live on DAZN.”

“Rances Barthelemy is already one of Cuba’s most accomplished fighters and he has a great opportunity for a signature victory that will put him in a position to be his country’s first three-division world champion,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “I expect him to put on a great performance and leave with his hand raised on April 27.”

“This is the biggest fight card to hit the #559; this is the Golden Boy Debut of Jose Ramirez and Vergil Ortiz Jr.’s first appearance in the Central Valley,” said Rick Mirigian, manager to Ramirez and Ortiz Jr. “It’s truly an honor to help promote this event.”
