Pat McCormack Stops Miguel Parra After 9

Pat McCormack remained undefeated by stopping Miguel Parra after round nine of their 10-round welterweight bout at Sunderland Live Arena in Sunderland, England.

In round six, McCormack was deducted a point for low blows. In round nine, McCormack hurt Parra with a huge flurry of punches and Parra had enough and the fight was stopped in between rounds.

McCormack, 146.95 lbs of Washington, ENG is 8-0 with six knockouts. Parra, 146.3 lbs of Tepic, MEX is 25-6-1.

McCormack, speaking to in-ring reporter Jamie Ward after a successful night headlining in his hometown, said: “I broke him  [Miguel Parra] down. He’s top 15 in the world, so I’m buzzing to make that statement in the ninth round. It was tough. Some of the shots I was hitting him with were just bouncing off him. He’s definitely the toughest man I’ve faced. He kept on coming. But I felt I was getting stronger as the fight went on. If Conah Walker wants it next, we’ll have it. I think I can beat him. I want the British, European or Commonwealth Title shot next – I want to start getting the belts. Thank you for everyone who came out to support me. It’s great to bring these nights to the North East.

Troy Williamson Stops Mark Dickinson in 9

Troy Williamson stopped Mark Dickinson in round nine of their 10-round super middleweight bout.

In round nine, with Williamson down on the scorecards, he landed an over hand right to the head of Dickinson that put him on the canvas. Dickinson got to his feet, but ate a huge right hand and the fight was stopped at 1″51.

Williamson, 167.6 lbs of Darlington, ENG is 21-4-1 with 15 knockouts. Dickinson, 173.2 lbs of West Raylon, ENG is 8-2.

Williamson said: “I’m back! Firstly, I want to thank everyone who has come out and supported me tonight. I’ve got a lot of people here tonight and I could have sold even more. Mark’s a great fighter. I’ve had a few losses and I’ve even had a lot of close friends who have stopped speaking to me because of that. So to everyone who’s come out tonight and stuck by me, through the highs and the lows, I can’t thank them enough. There’s a lot more to come. There’s no easy fights at this level – and no disrespect to the English Title, but I know I am above this level.”

Leo Atang Cristian Uwaka in 2

Leo Atang stopped Cristian Uwaka in the opening round of their four-round heavyweight bout.

In Round one, Atang dropped Uwaka with a hard overhand right. Atang landed a left hook that froze Uwake and then sent him to the canvas with a pair of rights and the fight was stopped at 2:31.

Atang, 230.5 lbs of York, ENG is 2-0 with two knockouts, Uwake, 216.3 lbsof Portsmouth, ENG is 1-6-1.

And Atang, 18, said: “I tried to be calm and look for the openings. When I found the right spot, that’s when I went for it. The main thing is that I won the fight. Boxing is my life – it means so much to me. That’s what keeps me so focused. And with everyone coming out to support me again tonight, it means so much to me. So, it’s important that I impress and they get their money’s worth when they are spending their hard-earned to support me. I’ll be back in the gym on Monday. Activity is key. I’m nowhere near the finished article of where I want to be but I’m going to keep on working hard each day. I can’t wait to go again in Sheffield on October 11.”

Sandy Ryan Decisions Jade Grierson

Former world champion Sandy Ryan won a 10-round unanimous decision over Jade Grierson in a welterweight bout.

Ryan, 145.1 lbs of Derby, ENG won by scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92 and is now 8-3-1. Grierson, 146.9 lbs of Newark, ENG is 5-1-1

Ryan said: “It meant everything [to win] because I had to get the fight back in me. You can see tonight that I enjoyed it, and there was that aggression. Jade [Grierson] was a tough girl and she really did set out to do what she said she was going to. She held in there and I respect her. You all know what I’m about – if they want to put me in a World Title fight next, then great. Let’s do it. I know Lauren price very well, we worked together at Team GB. She’s a great professional. She’s got the belts so it would be a great fight to have. Either way, it’s good to be back – and it’s good to be back on UK soil.”

Cameron Vuong won an eight-round decision over Reuquen Facundo Arce in a lightweight bout.

Vuong, 136.9 lbs of Blyth, ENG won by a 80-72 score and is now 9-0. Arce, 136 lbs of Buenos Aires, ARG is 18-21-2.
