THIS ONE COUNTS: DECADE-LONG RIVALRY TO BE SETTLED BETWEEN WBC SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION DEVIN “THE DREAM” HANEY AND “KING” RYAN GARCIA

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Feb. 23, 2023) – A dangerous rivalry that has been brewing since their days in the amateur boxing scene has finally hit a fever pitch as undefeated, former undisputed lightweight champion and current WBC Super Lightweight Champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) will defend his title against international PPV star “King” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs). The 12-round fight is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Haney Promotions, KingRy Promotions, and Matchroom Boxing. The mega-event will take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Saturday, April 20, exclusively live on DAZN PPV.

“Facing Ryan Garcia on April 20, 2024, is another step in my pursuit of greatness and cementing my legacy as one of the sport’s greatest champions,” said Devin Haney. “I don’t need to say much. My track record speaks to my ability in the ring to overcome any challenge thrown my way, and rise to the top. I’m committed to giving the fans what they want – the best fights in boxing. I’ve proven time and again that I am a formidable opponent, and it’s my skillset and the belief I have in my team that will ultimately lead me to victory. I’m happy Ryan’s team shares the same excitement in bringing the fans great boxing and we’re ready to bring you the best boxing event of the year in New York at Barclays Center.”

“I’m coming as if I was a roaring lion, coming back for blood,” said super lightweight world title contender Ryan Garcia. “I’m excited to bring another mega fight to boxing, that’s all I intend to do. I will place everything in the Lord’s hand. I pray that Devin comes out healthy and safe, and that everyone is entertained.”

“The Golden Boy mantra is the best fighting the best, and it’s hard to remember a better example of that than when Ryan Garcia and Devon Haney square off on April 20,” said Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “Championship gold, bragging rights over a long, intense rivalry and the status as the face of American boxing will all be on the line with no catchweight, rehydration clauses or other nonsense. This is a can’t miss fight that fans can’t afford to miss.”

“We are incredibly excited to be broadcasting this mega fight live on DAZN PPV,” said Jared Kass, SVP North America DAZN. “Devin and Ryan are two next superstars of US boxing but only one can be crowned come final bell on April 20. This stacked night of boxing joins an already packed spring schedule which sees Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou fight March 8, the Undisputed Heavyweight Title between Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk May 18 and countless domestic matchups all live and only on DAZN.”

Devin Haney, widely known as “The Dream,” is an undefeated and accomplished professional boxer with a perfect record of 31 wins and 0 losses who has taken the boxing world by storm. With his lightning-fast hands, exceptional boxing skills, and unyielding determination, Haney has emerged as one of the sport’s most exciting and promising talents today. The two-division champion left no doubt when he was elected Sports Illustrated 2023 ‘Fighter of the Year.’ In a remarkable feat, he has attained the title of the youngest undisputed world champion and the first undisputed lightweight world champion in the modern four-belt era by dethroning then-champion George Kambosos. Haney’s subsequent defense of his undisputed world title, including a successful rematch against Kambosos and a notable victory over 3-division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko, further solidifies his place among boxing’s elite. He was last seen in December 2023 when he dethroned Regis Prograis via unanimous decision win to become the new WBC Super Lightweight Champion.

“King” Ryan Garcia has become one of the biggest names in boxing, and at only 25-years-old has broken into the mainstream. Garcia has proven that he is a supreme, pay-per-view attraction, having generated one of the top 5 best boxing gates in Nevada boxing history. One of the most dynamic and exciting boxers fighting today, his fast-paced style, killer left hook, and long roster of knockouts have impressed boxing fans for years, including his most recent dispatch of knockout artist and power puncher Oscar “La Migraña” Duarte last December 2023.

BLOCKBUSTER TAYLOR VS. CATTERALL REMATCH SELLS OUT IN ONE DAY

The highly anticipated rematch between bitter rivals Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall taking place at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Saturday April 27, shown live on DAZN in the UK and around the world and exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S., has sold out in less than a day after going on sale to the general public at midday.

The fierce rivals reignited their feud at two fiery press conferences in Edinburgh and Manchester earlier this week before concluding their busy press tour in the Capital on Wednesday, filming an unmissable Face Off – to be released on the DAZN and Matchroom Boxing YouTube platforms soon – and trading verbal blows on talkSPORT’s White and Jordan show.

Taylor and Catterall have been embroiled in a heated war of words since February 2022 when they met on an unforgettable night at The OVO Hydro Arena in Glasgow for Taylor’s Undisputed Super-Lightweight World Title.

Intense debate has raged in the aftermath of their first fight, when Scotland’s Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) protected his unbeaten record with a hugely controversial split decision points win to retain his then-Undisputed Super-Lightweight crown.

During a pulsating battle, Taylor was cut twice by the left eye and was put down by Catterall in the 8th round before he was deducted one point in the 11th for punching after the bell. Catterall, meanwhile, was deducted one point for holding in the 10th.

Chorley’s ‘El Gato’ (28-1, 13 KOs) appeared to outbox Taylor for long periods but ultimately tasted defeat for the first time in his career after Taylor clung onto his titles. The decision caused outrage among some boxing fans and the two have been at loggerheads ever since.

“I’m so grateful for all of the support,” said Catterall. “I appreciate all the fans spending their hard-earned money to see me beat Josh Taylor on April 27 in Leeds. I know what lies ahead of me. As much as we have the press conferences and the weigh-in, I have a job to do on April 27. I’m preparing for the best of Josh Taylor, so when I beat him and do it convincingly, I can move on with my career. Josh, you are finished after this fight. In nine weeks’ time, we get to put him to bed.”

Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn added: “What an incredible response for an unmissable all-British grudge match. The First Direct Arena in Leeds is completely sold out. The controversy of the first fight will be settled in an unbelievable night on April 27, live and exclusive on DAZN in the UK and around the world, part of your subscription on the global home of boxing.”

Venado Lopez: “It’s Going To Be A War!”

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2024) — Luis Alberto “Venado” Lopez is determined to turn his third world title defense into a war of attrition.

Lopez will defend his IBF featherweight world title against Japanese contender Reiya Abe on Saturday, March 2 at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York.

Lopez-Abe will serve as the co-feature to the vacant WBA featherweight world championship showdown between Uzbek phenom Otabek Kholmatov and American standout Raymond Ford.

Promoted by Top Rank, tickets are on sale and can be purchased at the Turning Stone Resort Casino Box Office, charge by phone by calling 800.771.7711, or online at Ticketmaster.com.

Kholmatov-Ford & Lopez-Abe will headline a stacked card streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

Lopez (29-2, 16 KOs) captured the IBF title by defeating Josh Warrington in his hometown of Leeds, England, in December 2022. The fighting pride of Mexicali, Mexico, defended his crown by traveling to Belfast to beat hometown hero Michael Conlan via fifth-round TKO. Lopez then beat division mainstay Joet Gonzalez with a hard-earned unanimous decision last September. The 30-year-old looks to vanquish his mandatory challenger as he preps to face the other champs in his division. Abe (25-3-1, 10 KOs) is coming off a points win over former two-division world champion Kiko Martinez to earn his shot at the belt.

Following a recent training session in Santa Fe Springs, California, this is what Lopez had to say:

“I decided to do my camp here in Los Angeles so I can be a little closer to my family. I also like it because of the altitude I get to experience when I go to the mountains. There are a lot of good spots to run out here. I feel great out here.”

“We’ve gotten tall southpaws who move a lot because we’ll need to neutralize Reiya Abe’s legs. We’re going to need to cut the ring off a lot, so we’re preparing for his style of fighting.”

“He’s a very slippery fighter. He doesn’t really like to brawl. So, it’s going to be difficult to catch him in the early rounds. But we’ve got great sparring partners. You can tell by the black eye one of them left me. I think we’re doing a great job, and I expect to win this fight by knockout.”

“My long-term goal is to fight the other champions and become a unified champion. I welcome a fight with whomever is next in line. Honestly, I want to unify the titles quickly and establish myself as a great champion and then move up to 130 pounds.”

“The fans know that I give everything in the ring. I always look for the fight. I always look to win by knockout. They know that I come here to fight. So, it’s going to be a real war. It’s going to be a bit complicated in the early rounds, but everyone knows that when I step in the ring, it’s always going to be a war.”

PPV.COM MAKES ITS 2024 DEBUT LIVE STREAMING THE JOSHUA-NGANNOU HEAVYWEIGHT RUMBLE!

NEW YORK (February 23, 2024) — PPV.COMwhich does not require a subscription, returns to the ring, in its 2024 season debut, live streaming to boxing fans, in the U.S. and Canada, arguably the most intriguing fight in recent memory — the heavyweight battle between former two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and MMA legend and newly minted World Boxing Council Top-10 heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou — Friday, March 8, beginning at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.  The Joshua-Ngannou heavyweight rumble will emanate from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.  Priced at $69.99, the Joshua-Ngannou event can be ordered by clicking herePPV.COM | Joshua vs. Ngannou.

The PPV.COM Joshua vs. Ngannou live stream will once again feature Hall of Fame broadcaster Jim Lampley, who will be paired with award-winning combat sports journalist Kevin Iole, co-hosting an exclusive viewer chat in real time.  Jim will also be providing exclusive fight week commentary and reports for PPV.COM‘s website and social platforms.

“Joshua vs Ngannou is the fight which should tell us whether the surprising result of Fury vs Ngannou was more about surprisingly good Ngannou or surprisingly bad Fury,” Lampley said.  “If Fury’s inability to master a decided underdog was caused by negligent training, inattention to detail, taking an MMA-origin opponent lightly, then an alert, attentive, trained and ready Joshua should handle that opponent with relative ease, and re-establish that boxing is a different craft than the craft through which Ngannou earned his identity.  But if Ngannou is the rare ring competitor who can transfer MMA skills over to boxing, he should show it against Joshua, who is slightly smaller and less physically imposing than Fury.  My first guess is Ngannou’s showing against Fury has created an incentive which will re-light Joshua’s fire, just what he needs after two losses to the superior technician Oleksandr Usyk.  That doesn’t mean Ngannou won’t have his moments — he’s proven he’s a formidable competitor.  But it does mean that in most instances boxers fighting within boxing rules have the edge against MMA gladiators, and Joshua has enough left in his tank to gain a form of public relations victory over Fury by beating Ngannou.  I say that from a distance, and I reserve the right to modify that outlook when I have had a chance to see them up close.”

PPV.COM, which does not require a subscription, will offer Fury vs. Usyk in the U.S. and Canada.  iNDEMAND, the parent company of PPV.COM, will also be carrying the event through its network of cable and telco operators in the U.S. and Canada via providers including, Xfinity, Spectrum, Contour, Optimum, Fios, Rogers, Bell, SaskTel, and Telus, among others.

Jim is a recipient of the Boxing Writers Association of America’s (BWAA) Sam Taub Award for Excellence in Broadcasting Journalism and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in its 2015 class.  He served as anchor and commentator for “HBO World Championship Boxing” for 30 years and has covered numerous Olympic Games during his long and distinguished career in sports broadcasting.

BERLANGA VS. MCCRORY: FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn

“Welcome to Orlando ahead of a huge night of boxing at Caribe Royale live on DAZN around the world, top class match-ups from top to bottom, headlined by Edgar Berlanga, looking for a shot at the the World championship, but chasing him is Padraig McCrory, two huge punchers, labeled ‘Shootout’ on Saturday night, and it really will be.

“There are 50-50 matchups across the board, leading off with Yankiel Rivera in a huge step-up against Andy Dominguez in a Puerto Rico vs. Mexico clash, there’s Puerto Rico vs. Puerto Rico as Antonio Vargas takes on Jonathan Rodriguez, who broke our hearts by knocking out Kal Yafai, and the eliminator for the World Welterweight title as Shakhram Giyasov takes on big punching Pablo Cesar Cano.

“I get told off for shouting my mouth about fighters sometimes but let’s be honest, Andy Cruz is a potential pound-for-pound great. He is one of the greatest amateurs of a generation and he’s moving like a train in the paid ranks, he’s in his third fight but he’s stepped up every time and last time out he demolished Jovanni Straffon to become IBF International Lightweight champion on the Devin Haney-Regis Prograis card. I believe he’s a couple of fights away from challenging for a World title and I would put this man in with any 135lber on the planet right now. But Brayan Zamarripa is so tough, we saw him in an incredible fight in Tijuana with Angel Fierro, a fight that could have gone either way on the cards. He was in tears in the dressing room afterwards and I said we would give him another opportunity, and that opportunity is a huge one but a huge one but a tough one against Andy.

“And our main event, a fantastic fight between two huge punchers in the 168lb division. Padraig is looking to beat Edgar and land a dream shot for the World championship, but Edgar is one of the rising stars in boxing and comes into this having filled up The Theater at Madison Square Garden last time out and looking for his own World title shot.

“Canelo Alvarez is without an opponent on May 4 currently and we will put Edgar’s name into the hat with an impressive performance on Saturday night, but Padraig has other ideas.”

Edgar Berlanga (21-0 16 KOs) defends his WBO NABO Super-Middleweight title against Padraig McCrory

“We don’t overlook anyone. Padraig is a tough guy, he’s coming from Ireland, he’s undefeated, he’s coming from the bottom just like I am, and we’re ready.

“Every fighter is going to come to try to beat me, and we know that. I know that the competition is getting heavier and tougher, so we’ve prepped very well in this camp. At this level, anything can happen, and we understand that. In the Super-Middleweight division, you can have no power but when you put ten-ounce gloves on, anybody can punch. So, we’ve taken him very seriously and I’m happy that he took the fight.

“At this time, Saturday is my focus, Padraig McCrory. I don’t give a f**k about Canelo, Munguia, it’s this man across from me that’s trying to take my ‘0’, so I have to put my focus on him and handle my business and then eventually, we can focus on those guys.

“We come from the slums too, I haven’t had it all nice. When I turned pro, no-one wanted to sign me, my first three fights were in Mexico. He’s Irish, we’re Puerto Rico, we get it popping. It’s statement season. Superstar week, because I have to shine. Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, they sell out a lot of fights because it’s Puerto Rico vs. the Irish, and I take my hat off to the Irish fighters because they are tough, and they come to fight.”

Padraig McCrory (18-0 9 KOs) challenges Edgar Berlanga for the WBO NABO Super-Middleweight title

“I want to thank you, Matchroom and Mick and Jamie with Conlan Boxing for this massive opportunity. It’s the biggest fight of my career and I have trained like it is. Now it is up to me on Saturday night to put on a show.

“There’s been a lot of work going on for me, I started in 2017, I’m 35 and people are questioning why only 18 fights. But I didn’t fight until I was 29, and then COVID happened. So I have been very busy, I’ve built my career to this point and people believe in me, but the main thing is that I believe in myself and that this is the platform and opportunity that I need.

“He’s a very good fighter. He’s the main event, the star, it’s the Berlanga show and I’m just here to show up, I’m just a guy from West Belfast, no-one expects anything from me. But I think I have got what it takes to win this fight, we’ve trained hard and meticulously gone through tactics so whether it’s Game A, B or C, we’re ready for what he bring.

“He fights the way he fights so if I don’t put in place what we have planned, it’s a very tough fight. I’ve been screaming for this opportunity, Matchroom and DAZN is the biggest platform for me in the sport, and now it’s here I have to show up.”

Andy Cruz (2-0 1 KO) defends his IBF International and WBA Continental Latin-American Lightweight titles.

“I’m always ready. Yes, there is pressure, yes, there are nerves, but I see that as a positive and in fact, when I am feeling that way, I am at my most dangerous. I am prepared for the fight, and it’s one thing to sit here and say you are going to do what you say you will do, as we all have the same objectives, but another thing is doing.

“As a boxer we all have goals. I hear a lot of what is going on around me but I don’t listen to it too much because ultimately, I am the person that has the final word in the ring, so I just want to demonstrate that I do belong at this level and I can go on and face the best.

“I feel that I really progressing well in this kind of new style of boxing. With every camp I have I progress even more and that’s thanks to my great gym mates and my trainer. You are starting to see a more complete Andy Cruz, a more complete boxer, and on Saturday I am going to demonstrate those qualities and I think you are going to see a mix of Cuban boxing fused with Philadelphia.”

Brayan Zamarripa (14-2 5 KOs) challenges Andy Cruz for the IBF International and WBA Continental Latin-American titles.

“Thank you for keeping your word, Eddie. As a good Mexican, I come here to leave everything in the ring and that will be no exception. I am coming here to get the victory and to take those belts home. The fight with Fierro is in the past now, I am here to get the win and don’t be surprised to see me take those belts on Saturday night.

“Andy has a lot of experience as an amateur, but I also have that, so I can box off the front foot or the back foot, but one thing that’s for sure is that I am taking home those titles.

“I’m here to take this opportunity, this is my moment, and I won’t let it pass me by. I am ready to face anyone, whether it’s the best Olympian out there or the best fighter, I am ready for the best.”

Shakhram Giyasov (14-0 9 KOs) faces Pablo Cesar Cano in an eliminator for the WBA World Welterweight title

“For me it’s a good fight, a big fight, it’s one step from being in a World title fight. I am ready, but I am always ready because I am born to be here. I love boxing and I want to put on a good show for the fans.

“I know he’s got power, a good punch, but I am faster, I am smarter, and I am ready.”

Pablo Cesar Cano (35-8-1 25 KOs) faces Shakhram Giyasov in an eliminator for the WBA World Welterweight title

“It’s great to be back on such a big card, it’s almost like the phoenix rising from the flames, I am coming back. This won’t be the exception. I am prepared and ready for the war.

“I always love to go in and trade, to have a war. I think he is exactly the same so I think that this might steal the show on Saturday.”

Antonio Vargas (17-1 9 KOs) faces Jonathan Rodriguez in an eliminator for the WBA World Bantamweight title

“It’s a big opportunity for me and I’m very thankful to be here. I am looking forward to Saturday night and the chance to display my skills. This is my hometown, so I am looking forward to giving the fans a good fight and make sure you get your money’s worth.

“The loss definitely helped me to grow build character and strengthen me, I learnt a lot from it. I corrected a lot of the mistakes from it and it’s just a hunger I have because I know I belong where these top guys are at, I am a top fighter, and I am looking to showcase my skills on Saturday night.”

Jonathan Rodriguez (17-1-1 7 KOs) faces Antonio Vargas in an eliminator for the WBA World Bantamweight title

“This is what it’s all about, taking step-ups to get to where you want to be, which is a World champion. I am one fight away from that, so I am going to do anything and everything I can to come out victorious on Saturday night.

“The Kal Yafai fight made me feel good because it made me feel like I belong where I am at now. I am just going to keep doing what I have to do to keep getting the wins and making statements, and to become a World champion.”

Yankiel Rivera (4-0 2 KOs) faces Andy Dominguez for the WBA and WBC Continental Americas Flyweight titles

“I’ve trained very hard and I’m ready to fight and to win. We’re ready for this, we’ve had a really good camp. We know Andy is a really good fighter, but I love challenges, they are what I live for.”

Andy Dominguez (10-0 5 KOs) faces Yankiel Rivera for the WBA and WBC Continental Americas Flyweight titles

“He’s a good fighter, he’s an Olympian, I’ve had more professional fights than him, so I feel like this is an even fight. It’s Puerto Rico vs. Mexico and you know how that goes, so it’s going to be a good fight.”

BERLANGA: MCCRORY IS MY BIGGEST TEST SO FAR

Edgar Berlanga hopes that Padraig McCrory backs up his words and comes to fight when the pair clash at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida on Saturday night (February 24), live worldwide on DAZN.

Berlanga (21-0 16 KOs) faces the Belfast man after beating Irishman Jason Quigley in June at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The Puerto Rican star has vowed to pick up where he left off in the final round where he dropped Quigley for the third and fourth time on the night, as ‘The Chosen One’ looks to cement his spot as a future ruler of the Super-Middleweihgt division.

The 26 year old expects McCrory (18-0 9 KOs) to provide the stiffest test of those credentials that he’s faced to date, and after the Belfast man predicted a shoot-out in Orlando, Berlanga hopes that is what McCrory brings in order to provide fans with an explosive night.

“He’s my hardest test so far for sure,” said Berlanga. “He’s undefeated, so he’s coming with a different mentality. He’s going to do anything to protect that ‘0’. I never overlook any opponent, I know he’s coming to fight, he has something to prove, and that’s what I like. Every fight we’re stepping up and he is highly ranked, he’s unbeaten, he’s got the same number of fights as me and I think it’s going to be a good test.

“Once he gets touched, I think he’s going to get on his bike. I don’t think he’s going to stay there and want to exchange with me. But we are prepping for anything and everything. So, if he tries to run and move around, box, try to lure me in and throw a sneaky shot, we see that coming. And if he wants to stay there and trade, well, they call him ‘The Hammer’ so he’s supposed to be displaying that, so we’ll see.

“My hands will do the talking on Saturday when I am pounding on his face, I hope he’s ready because I am coming with fireworks. When he sees me at the press conference and he looks into my eyes, he’s going to know what’s up. I’m about that action, I pray he comes healthy so we can put an amazing night on for the fans. I’m coming for blood. There’s going to be a lot of heat on him, and he better be prepared, because I’m looking to hurt him and knock him the fuck out.

“It was a good fight with Jason. What you have to understand is what McCrory said that it’s a life-changing moment for him. So, these guys are never going to come like they do for any other fight, and it’s like that with Jason. He was in tremendous shape, I dropped him four times and he got crushed in that 12th round but he still got up, he had no quit in him. But these fighters come with a different mentality when they face me, like they do when they face the Canelo’s or the Benavidez’s, that’s the mindset that they have and you hear it in what McCrory is saying, this is a life-changing chance for him. Every fighter is going to feel like that against me.

“I love the Irish fans. My manager is Irish. But McCrory has to go, it’s over for him. They will call me the Irish Assassin. The crowd in New York was amazing though, the Irish flags at the Garden, and they are a fighting country just like Puerto Rico, they have that fighting spirit in them.”

Berlanga and McCrory clash on a big night of action in Orlando, where the co-feature pits Cuban Lightweight sensation Andy Cruz (2-0 1 KO) against Mexican Brayan Zamarippa (14-2 5 KOs) for the IBF International and WBA Continental Latin-American titles.

Shakhram Giyasov (14-0 9 KOs) and Pablo Cesar Cano (35-8-1 25 KOs) battle it out in an eliminator for the WBA World Welterweight title, while the main card on DAZN sees another World title eliminator as Antonio Vargas (17-1 9 KOs) and Jonathan Rodriguez (17-1-1 7 KOs) aim to take a step closer to the WBA World Bantamweight crown.

Yankiel Rivera (4-0 2 KOs) closes the Before The Bell section of the card with his first title fight as he takes on Andy Dominguez (10-0 5 KOs) for the WBA and WBC Continental Americas Flyweight titles, with Cuban Heavyweight Herich Ruiz (4-0 3 KOs) meets Mitch Williams (16-10-3 11 KOs) over eight rounds and Aaron Aponte (8-1-1 2 KOs) takes on Joseph Fernandez (17-5-3 6 KOs) over eight rounds Super-Lightweight.

BoxingInsider delivers another action-packed NYC show on March 7 at Sony Hall

NEW YORK, NY – (February 22, 2024) — Sony Hall in Times Square has become the place to go for pro boxing in the greatest city in the world. BoxingInsider Promotions has been delivering at that location – eight times in their first 14 months, in fact – and they’re looking to do it again on Thursday, March 7 (with a 7:30 PM start time) streamed live on BoxingInsider.com.

There’s an action-packed show on tap at the intimate venue, with a lot of local flavor.

Larry Goldberg of BoxingInsider has committed himself to providing a launching pad for the next generation of great local fighters in a city that is famous for its boxing history. He is keeping boxing very much alive in Manhattan. And he has some intriguing match-ups lined up for the March 7th show.

* A Gleason’s Gym standout, featherweight Ariel Lopez (20-1-1), is fighting Gregorio Lebron (24-6) in what promises to be an action packed eight-round main event. Lopez, originally from Mexico and now fighting out of Brooklyn, won the WBC Latino title at 122 pounds in February 2022, winning a decision over Wilner Soto. Lebron, a native of the Dominican Republic, fought for the WBC world flyweight crown in 2018, traveling to Kiev (Ukraine) in an unsuccessful attempt against Artem Dalakian. Ariel Lopez will be defending his WBC Latin Continental title.

 * In a highly anticipated female co-feature, Brooklyn featherweight Chiara “Speedy” Dituri (7-0), who also trains at Gleason’s, takes on Jaica Pavilus (3-6-1) of Harlem. The well-traveled Pavilus, a rough-and-tumble southpaw, will be facing her sixth undefeated opponent in a seven-bout stretch. It should be noted that she has two wins and a draw against those unbeaten foes. So Dituri is in for a battle.

* Light heavyweight Emmet Brennan (2-0) hails from Dublin, where he represented Ireland in the Tokyo Olympics as a light heavyweight and former Celtic Champion. He’s making his US debut against Devaun Lee (11-10-1) of Queens in an eight-round match.

* Heavyweight Pryce Taylor (2-0) of Brooklyn, a two-time finalist in the US Championships as an amateur who has fought nine times in Team Combat League, will compete in front of hometown fans in a four-rounder against the 2-time veteran TCL veteran Kenyon Walker (1-0) of San Antonio, TX in a four-round match.

?More bouts will be added. Stay tuned for subsequent announcements.

Tickets are priced at $95, $150, $200 and $325, and are available at Ticketweb (https:// www.ticketweb.com/event/boxing-insider-live-professional-boxing-sony-hall-tickets/ 13430053). Sony Hall is located at 235 W 46th Street in Manhattan.

For those who can’t experience the event at Sony Hall, the March 7 show will be shown, free of charge, on BoxingInsider’s streaming platform (https:// videos.boxinginsider.com/).

Vargas Ready to Shine in Eliminator Against Rodriguez

Orlando, FL (February 21, 2024) – On Saturday evening, 2016 US Olympian Antonio Vargas meets Jonathan Rodriguez in a 12-round World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight title eliminator at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, FL.

The WBA’s second ranked contender, Vargas is 17-1 with 9 KO’s. Fighting out of Kissimmee, FL, Vargas represented Team USA at the 2016 Olympics. Vargas had a stellar 2023, stopping contender Mitchell Banquez in six rounds and dominating former world champion Hernan Marquez enroute to a ten-round decision.

Born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and fighting out of Bethlehem, PA, Rodriguez has an excellent professional record of 17-1-1 with 7 KO’s. Ranked number three by the WBA, Rodriguez sent shockwaves through the boxing world when he scored a vicious first round knockout over former titlist Kal Yafai.

“I’m excited to be fighting in front of my fans in Orlando and on a big platform like DAZN,” Vargas said from his training camp in Kissimmee. “I know Jonathan is an aggressive fighter that likes to come forward, but we’ve got a great game plan to negate that. This is the kind of fight I’ve been dreaming of my entire career and a victory Saturday evening puts me first in line for a world title shot.”

The winner of Vargas-Rodriguez becomes the mandatory challenger for the WBA bantamweight title and faces the winner of the bout between current champion Takuma Inoue and Jerwin Ancajas.

“We’re pleased to be working with Matchroom to bring a world class championship card to Central Florida,” said Amaury Piedra of Boxlab Promotions. “From championship fights to title eliminators and rising prospects, this card has it all. We’re excited to see Antonio earn this great opportunity and to do it in his hometown in front of his fans is phenomenal. I have no doubt Vargas and Rodriguez will put on an exciting fight that the fans will enjoy.”

Vargas-Rodriguez airs live on DAZN at 8 pm as part of a loaded card featuring a welterweight title eliminator, Olympic Gold Medalist Andy Cruz, and Edgar Berlanga vs Padraig McCrory in the main event.

The card is promoted by Matchroom Boxing in association with Boxlab Promotions. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com and the opening bout is scheduled for 5:30 pm.

MCCRORY: I’M ONE PUNCH FROM CHANGING MY LIFE

Padraig McCrory believes Edgar Berlanga and his team have made a mistake in picking him to fight this Saturday and that he’s one punch away from changing his life when the unbeaten Super-Middleweights clash at Caribe Royale in Orlando, live worldwide on DAZN.

McCrory (18-0 9 KOs) faces-off with Berlanga (21-0 16 KOs) for the first time today (Tuesday) in Orlando as they close in on their crunch battle at 168lbs.

The Belfast man has acknowledged that this is the biggest fight of his career to date, but with Berlanga eyeing the likes of Jaime Munguia, Diego Pacheco and the biggest fish of all, undisputed king Canelo Alvarez; McCrory knows he’s within touching distance of putting his name into the mix to land those fights for himself.

“I know that I am one punch away from changing my life,” said McCrory. “If it happens, and I truly believe it is going to, I will go down in Irish boxing history, and on Saturday that’s what is going to happen. I’m so proud of being from Belfast and to go down in history there would mean so much to me.

“Winning this fight changes my life for good, anything that’s happened in the past is irrelevant. My life is great, I’m happily married with three kids, and on Saturday it’s going to get even better. This win opens up massive opportunities, the biggest names, like Jaime Munguia, Diego Pacheco or even Canelo Alvarez. He’s the dream fight for everybody, the money fight, and that’s what awaits me after this fight. He’s looking past me talking about those guys, he’s not worried about me but that’s a big mistake, he’s in for a nightmare.

“I’m definitely his hardest fight. I’m a big 168 and he’s never taken anyone’s ‘0’.  He sounds confident but I think it’s all show. He’s trying to convince him self and on Saturday you’ll see that I’m his biggest test. It’s obvious that he has power, he comes with a big punch. Ask anyone and they’ll say he’s strong and has power. I think he is getting a bit better fundamentally, but he isn’t the finished article and I think he needs more time and that’s why they haven’t taken the Munguia fight or the Ryder fight, or any of these big fights. They are trying to get him ready for those big fights and unfortunately, I’m a step too far.

“You’ve seen footage of him getting dropped in fights, in the amateurs and in sparring, so I am visualizing using those moments and putting myself there. It’s a big part of what I am doing, visualizing the win and the feeling. I don’t think the fight goes the distance. I see myself knocking him out, you’ve seen him hurt heavy, and I believe I have the power to do it. People don’t expect me to win, I’m the big underdog, but on Saturday, the world is going to know my name.

“Thank you, Eddie, for the opportunity, but you’ve made the wrong decision in picking me. You have big plans for Edgar but unfortunately, I’m going to stop it all from happening. When Katie Taylor comes back to Dublin, put me on there and I’ll fight anyone.”

Shakhram Giyasov (14-0 9 KOs) and Pablo Cesar Cano (35-8-1 25 KOs) battle it out in an eliminator for the WBA World Welterweight title, while the main card on DAZN sees another World title eliminator as Antonio Vargas (17-1 9 KOs) and Jonathan Rodriguez (17-1-1 7 KOs) aim to take a step closer to the WBA Wordl Bantamweigtht crown.

ELIJAH GARCIA VS. KYRONE DAVIS & JULIO CESAR MARTINEZ VS. ANGELINO CORDOVA VIRTUAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LAS VEGAS – February 20, 2024 – Rising middleweight Elijah Garcia, 160-pound contender Kyrone Davis, WBC Flyweight World Champion Julio Cesar Martinez and unbeaten contender Angelino Cordova previewed their respective matchups during a virtual press conference Tuesday before they enter the ring on Saturday, March 30 in PBC on Prime Video with action beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Garcia and Davis will top the live stream in a 10-round matchup, while Martinez looks to defend his world title against Cordova in the 12-round opening bout. The live stream on Prime Video begins at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT and is available via free access to all fans regardless of Prime membership or purchase of the PPV card later that evening.

These matchups lead into the inaugural four-fight PBC Pay-Per-View available on Prime Video beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and topped by two-time world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman dueling rising star and reigning world champion Tim Tszyu in the main event, plus WBA Super Lightweight World Champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Mexican star Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz meeting in the co-main event.

Rounding out the pay-per-view lineup is Cuban star and reigning WBA Middleweight World Champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara defending his belt against No. 1 rated mandatory challenger Michael Zerafa, plus all-action super welterweight sensation Sebastian “The Towering Inferno” Fundora meeting streaking contender Serhii Bohachuk for the vacant WBC Super Welterweight World Championship in the pay-per-view opener. Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are available now through AXS.com. The main event is promoted in association with No Limit Boxing.

Here is what the fighters had to say Tuesday:

ELIJAH GARCIA

“I have to go through Kyrone Davis. I know it’s not going to be an easy fight, but if we get through this one, I’d like the winner of Erislandy Lara vs. Michael Zerafa. I’m definitely not looking past Kyrone though.

“Kyrone is different from anyone I’ve faced. We have a new game plan that we’re training for. I’ve seen him fight different styles, so we’re preparing for anything. We’ll see what happens in the ring on March 30.

“I know that I have to be ready for Kyrone because of the type of fighter he is. Being in 50-50 fights like this keeps me humble. That’s what’s helped me take steps in my career. I just have to keep preparing how I’ve been preparing.

“I feel like I’ve earned what I’ve gotten so far. Kyrone is going to be a good test and another key experience that I need before I fight for the world title. I’ve worked hard for this.

“Being on the card with a middleweight world title fight was definitely purposeful and whoever gets the job done between Kyrone and I has a shot to get that title fight. I have to show the world that I have the experience to fight for the title.

“I’ve had success because I’ve been able to dictate the pace in the ring. Whether I want to slow it down or pick it up. It’s because we train a certain way and we come into the ring with a game plan of what we want to do. I have a lot of experience in my corner as well with my dad and my grandpa. I trust my corner a lot.

“None of my family really made it as far as I have in the sport. It doesn’t put any pressure on me though. I’m in the sport because I love it. It’s in our blood and we have a shared mentality about what it takes to win.

“I’ve stayed active and I’ve had the right fights. I’ve stayed in the gym and I’ve stayed ready. That really goes a long way. It’s got me to where I am now.”

KYRONE DAVIS

“This is exciting. I’m looking forward to putting on a show. It’s my first time fighting in Las Vegas so I’m excited about that too. But most importantly we’re just focused on preparing.

“Beating Garcia would be a great milestone in my career. It would get me one step closer to where I want to be, and that’s fighting for a world title.

“The middleweight division has always been one of the biggest in the sport. There’s no clear face of the division right now. The lane to supremacy is open. It’s exciting that either one of us could possibly take over. That’s what I’m looking to do. After I win this fight, and I am going to win, I’m looking for Erislandy Lara, Carlos Adames, or anyone who’s got a strap.

“The opportunity to fight on this stage excites me. It’s not necessarily the opponent. It’s going to be a good fight. He’s a hungry fighter. The most exciting thing for me is having a full training camp. I’ve fought on just a couple weeks’ notice several times. I’m excited for this full training camp and to be coming off just having a fight in December. The world is going to see who I really am.

“We’re taking Garcia seriously. He’s a force. But there’s a big difference between this and what I’ve faced going into other fights. It’s a different mindset and we’re preparing for whatever could come up.

“Absolutely we want to get the world title fight next. That’s why we’re taking this fight. We’re right where we need to be. With the eyes on this fight, I can reach my ultimate goal and that’s fighting for the title.

“I’ve had a long journey and I think every fight I’ve had and every situation that I’ve been in has prepared me for this. All of those accumulated together has given me the experience to be in a fight like this and stay calm. I know what my body needs to be ready to perform at the top level.

“Staying in the gym is key to being powerful and being your strongest self. When I have a longer break it can take longer to get back to peak. I’m not worried about the weight, it’s more about being in fight mode for a long time.”

JULIO CESAR MARTINEZ

“I’m ready for this fight. It’s been in the making for a while now, so I’m really just so ready to lace up the gloves, get in there and give the fans a great fight on March 30.

“Angelino is a strong guy and he’s a good counter-puncher. But we’re focusing on showcasing our tools. We’ve had a great training camp with Eddy Reynoso and we can’t wait to show the fans what we can do.

“Cordova is going to be another strong opponent. Every opponent has come with their best and tried to take the belt from me. I know that I have to be ready for him.

“I was very frustrated to have this fight postponed the first time, but now we’re just looking forward to the fight happening and having my hand raised.

“No opponent is easy and no opponent will step into the ring with a defeatist mindset. If he’s here, it’s for a reason. I tried to unify, it didn’t happen, and now I’m ready to defend my title. I know that Angelino will not be an easy opponent.

“It’s nice to start 2024 with a clean slate and a full training camp. My sights are beyond just one fight, I want to unify and fight the best. Eddy Reynoso and I are ready to make it happen.

“I plan to prove what I’m already proving. I’m the best at 112 pounds and I’m the best fighter in this division.”

ANGELINO CORDOVA

“The world of boxing is ready for this great matchup and I’m very excited. Training camp could not be going better. I’ve got a great team with me here in New Jersey that’s helping me be the best that I can be on March 30.

“I have seen myself becoming champion in my mind and I am ready to live it. I said it before and I’ll say it again, this is my time. I’m thankful for the opportunity and I’m ready to go make the most of it. I’m coming to make my dream come true.

“I was blindsided when the fight got postponed in December. I wouldn’t wish it upon anybody. It was hard emotionally because I had put in so much work in training camp.

“Julio Cesar has the belt that I want. I could not be more motivated to come in there and take the belt away from them.

“I came to America with a dream to train hard at the gym. Now I’m here in New Jersey with my family and I’m on the doorstep of achieving my dream. I’m right there and I want to make it come true.

“There are plenty of fighters who have not earned their place in the rankings. But I’ve earned my spot. I’ve taken every step I’ve needed to, especially here in America. I’m glad that it happened this way so that I could mature as a fighter. This is the perfect time for me to take this step.

“It’s time to pull off the upset. I’m ready to earn that world title.”

TAYLOR VS. CATTERALL 2 MANCHESTER PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“Welcome to Manchester for part two of a slightly lively press conference ahead of the British fight of the year, the rematch between Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall, April 27 in Leeds. We have a night that you are not going to forget.

“The controversy of the first fight will be settled in an unbelievable night live and exclusive on DAZN around the world, part of your subscription on the global home of boxing.”Josh Taylor:

“I’m looking forward to getting this fight done. The first one is done, he couldn’t beat me the first time and he certainly won’t beat me this time, so I’m looking forward to it.

“It’s been a long two years coming. We tried to get the fight done straight away and it never happened, the mandatory then came in. But we’re here now, there’s no point in keeping on talking about what happened, we’re going to settle the score on April 27.You need to have a word with your man, that’s three times he’s tried to put his hands on me, he’s meant to be a professional athlete. Keep your hands to yourself you little rat.

“It is must-win, it’s a crossroads fight for us both, when I beat him this time again, he’s got nowhere to go. His biggest night is me and when I beat him again, he’ll have nowhere to go and he’ll retire without a prime, with no belts and he’ll never be a World champion.

“You’re in the wrong game if you don’t believe in yourself, so of course he’ll think that, but he’s never knocked anyone out in his life, not anyone credible.

“On April 27, I end Jack Catterall’s career, one that he never got going, and he’ll never be a World champion.”

Joe McNally:

“I’m 100 per cent confident in Josh. the first fight was a cracker and I just hope that we get the opportunity for Josh to showcase his skills, Jack with his counter-punching and we have the right official, so there’s no holding and clinching and they let the fight flow. If we get that, we’ll get a good fight and we’ll be in for a good night.

“We’re in professional boxing, small gloves, anyone can be knocked out, but Jack isn’t a knockout puncher and that’s a fact. He couldn’t get an old, shot Jorge Linares out of there, so to think he’s going to get Josh out of there? Not a chance. I just hope he performs and he’s ready because he’s with a fantastic team, because Josh will be ready, may the best man win and we’re really confident.

“There were a few things that needed addressing in the camp with Teofimo, I personally think we shouldn’t have gone ahead with the fight off the injury that he had. But it was one of those fights that a round here or there, we wouldn’t be sitting here right now, he’d be fighting a Devin Haney or Gervonta Davis. We never got the decision so we’re sitting here because of Josh, not Jack, that’s a fact. I’m excited for it and to go into this one all guns blazing.”Tom Grant:

“This is what it’s about, these domestic dust-up are what the fans come out for. All that matters is what happens on April 27 now, and that is that Josh Taylor is going to beat Jack Catterall on April 27 and all these people are going to struggle watching it.”

Jack Catterall:

“I want to thank everybody that has come out today. It’s an exciting fights, it gets the juices flowing, it’s been talked about for the last two years and it’s the same for Josh, everyone always asking when the rematch is, so it’s good to have the rematch locked in, and I’m ready to settle it.

“You know what it is, they’ve said it’s the England vs. Scotland heritage, but it’s more of me just fighting a pr*ck. He’s just not a nice person. That’s it.

“I know what lies ahead of me. As much as we have the press conferences and the weigh-ins, I have a job to do on April 27. I’m preparing for the best of Josh Taylor, so when I beat him and do it convincingly, I can move on with my career.

“I think he’s there to be beaten and I’ve got his number, and it’s only a matter of time before he touches the canvas again. Can we get some more tickets for the fight Eddie, please? We’ve had a great response and that’s expected with a big domestic fight, so I’m very grateful for everyone’s support.

“Josh, you are finished after this fight. In nine weeks’ time, we get to put him to bed.”

Jamie Moore:

“I’ve always been a big believer in Jack, I’ve always said the day that he came into our gym that he would be a World champion. I’ve just done loads of interviews and basically said the same thing, this is such a good fight because it’s been created by that narrative. It was a controversial decision in the first fight, and the vast majority thought Jack won. The two years in between has created a better story and made people more interested in it now than when it first should have taken place six months afterwards.

“You have kept Jack busy, he’s active and that’s the main thing that’s not been good for him over the last five years. He’s always in the gym. Josh has had that one loss, but I don’t buy into the fact that he’s on the slide because he’s lost to Teofimo Lopez because he’s an unbelievable fighter. So, we’re going into the fight knowing we’re going to get the best version of Josh Taylor because it’s such a grudge match and we’re going to train hard for it.

“The first fight is irrelevant now, all that matters is what happens on April 27.”Sam Jones:

“Yesterday we were in the great city of Edinburgh, and it is a great city, but it’s not a patch on Chorley. I didn’t hear what Tom said yesterday, he mentioned Ben Shalom for some reason, but they have a bit in common, they both got the charisma of the weather outside.

“It’s a fantastic fight, we’ve got two of the best trainers in the country up here today, all I want is for Josh not to make any excuses. He demanded it to be at 140lbs, I think that is a ready-made excuse right there, but it’s just a fantastic fight, British boxing needs rivalries like this, with two great fighter, one former undisputed champion and one guy that should have been undisputed, and it’s going to be a great fight, and as I said yesterday, Jack Catterall is going to whoop Josh Taylor on April 27.”

A Karate black belt, Fiorot burst onto the UFC scene with highlight finishes of Victoria Leonardo and Tabatha Ricci before announcing herself as a top contender with her most recent win over former champion Rose Namajunas. She now aims to become the first to finish Blanchfield in the UFC and earn her spot as the top contender in the division.

Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman (15-7, fighting out of Baldwin, N.Y.) seeks to deliver a vintage performance. Considered among the greatest UFC middleweights of all time, Weidman holds historic wins over Anderson Silva (twice), Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort. He now has his sights set on adding to his record for most takedowns in UFC middleweight history with a commanding victory over Silva.

Always exciting Silva (23-10, fighting out of Curitiba, Brazil) hopes to add Weidman’s notable name to his resume with a signature knockout. Having finished 20 of his 23 wins via strikes, Silva has entertained fans with triumphs over Brad Tavares, Jordan Wright and Andrew Sanchez. He now looks to start his 2024 campaign off on a high note by stopping Weidman.

Additional bouts on the card include:

  • Welterweight strikers lock horns as No. 9 ranked Vicente Luque (22-9-1, fighting out of Brasilia, Brazil) faces Joaquin Buckley (17-6, fighting out of St. Louis, Mo.)
  • No. 4 ranked strawweight Virna Jandiroba (19-3, fighting out of Feira de Santana, Bahia, Brazil) aims to defend her spot in the rankings against No. 10 Loopy Godinez (12-3, fighting out of Vancouver, B.C., Canada by way of Aguascalientes, Mexico)
  • Nursultan Ruziboev (35-8-2 2NC, fighting out of Tashkent, Uzbekistan) aims to stay undefeated in the UFC as he takes on Dana White’s Contender Series signee Sedriques Dumas (9-1, fighting out of Pensacola, Fla.) at middleweight
  • Julio Arce (18-6, fighting out of Bayside, N.Y.) locks horns with Herbert Burns (11-4, fighting out of Lantana, Fla. by way of Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) in an exciting featherweight bout

  • Dana White’s Contender Series signee Ibo Aslan (12-1, fighting out of Istanbul, Turkey) looks to impress in his UFC debut again Anton Turkalj (8-3, fighting out of Gothenburg, Sweden) at light heavyweight
  • Featherweights Dennis Buzukja (11-4, fighting out of Merrick, N.Y.) and Connor Matthews (7-1, fighting out of Fall River, Mass.) collide
  • Angel Pacheco (7-2, fighting out of Rice, Minn.) and Caolan Loughran (8-1, fighting out of Anfield, England) vie for their first UFC wins in a bantamweight bout
  • A battle of middleweight grapplers sees Andre Petroski (10-3, fighting out of Springfield, Penn.) go toe-to-toe with Jacob Malkoun (7-3, fighting out of Oran Park, NSW, Australia)

GILL VS. BARRETT + UNDERCARD LAUNCH PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“We have a great card on April 13 at the AO Arena in Manchester. It’s topped by these two fantastic Super-Featherweights with Jordan Gill coming in off the back of that epic victory against Michael Conlan in Belfast and Zelfa Barrrett, looking to get a shot at a World title and headlining in his hometown.

“There’s are World title fights on the card as Ellie Scotney looks to unify the Super-Bantamweight division against France’s Segolene Lefebvre, and Rhiannon Dixon challenges for her first Wrold title in a very tough fight against Karen Elizabeth Carabajal. Elsewhere on the card, Cameron Vuong against Jordan Flynn is a fantastic match-up, Michael Gomez and Kane Baker Clash, William Crolla is in action and Brandon Scott returns. It’s a fantastic night of boxing in Manchester.”Jordan Gill:

“This is a fight that as soon as you mentioned it, we said yes. It’s just a fight, and one that I’m excited for, off the back of the Conlan fight it’s more interesting and we’ve not had a bad reaction for this fight, everyone is excited for it, and so am I.

“To be the best you have to beat the best. So, to have a claim to a World title you have to go through these fights. Zelfa is a very good fighter, he wants a World title shot and he’s probably at the front of the queue, so I have to beat him to leapfrog him. That’s why we’re here and we said yes to the fight, so I am looking forward to it.

“I think the team I have is the best I’ve worked with, the way they analyze everything, it makes it very simple. All you want as a fighter is a clear game plan, that’s what I’ve got. This fight is very different from the Conlan fight, I knew exactly what I had to do there and I will here too, but Zelfa has a lot of strings to his bow, he’s a very versatile fighter, moves really well, punches hard, has fast hands, he can stand and sling it out as well, so I am going to have to come out very different than I did against Conlan, but I am excited for the challenge and to be able to show my versatility as well.

“I’m like a half-Indian Golovkin! I think you will see the best of me now. I’m coming into my prime, I feel good, I’m with the right team, I’m training hard, and I feel comfortable and strong at 130lbs. There is so much emphasis on being the bigger guy in the ring, and fighters boil themselves down to make weights that they shouldn’t. There’s a difference between making a weight and performing at it. For the last two, three, maybe even four years, i just couldn’t perform at Featherweight, it’s frustrating because I know I would be much further along in my career if I’d moved up sooner but you are always chasing that carrot that’s being dangled in front of you, like, ‘win this one and you’ll get a World title’. But you are better off just being smaller but stronger.

“I’m happy, I’m enjoying my training, I’ve found the love for boxing again, I’ve got a lot of things going on that I’m really excited about, and this fight is just one of them so let the good times roll.”Zelfa Barrett:

“This is the fight you promised, and you have delivered. I’ve always wanted to box at the Arena, watching and being in the changing rooms with Anthony Crolla and Scott Quigg, I’d always thought one day I’ll be there winning a World title, but this fight is like a World title because I know how good Jordan is. He’s well-schooled, got a good team around him, so it’s given me the grit in my teeth to perform.

“We’re similar in styles and that’s why I wanted to spar him back in the day because we’re similar, it’s funny how the tables turn and we’re now fighting each other, it’s an exciting fight and tickets are flying out, all my people will be there.

“This is what I have been waiting for and I’ll surprise you with how many tickets I sell because Manchester has been screaming for a fighter and I’m top of the tree. If I can get a win over Jordan, the world is mine and you can deliver me anything that you can, and I believe I will do.”Rhiannon Dixon:

“I can’t thank you enough for the opportunity. I think with each fight I am just making a natural progression and showing more and more what I can do, what I am about. Each fight has been a test and I’m passing them with flying colors, and this is another one that I am going to pass.

“Giving up my job as a pharmacist, my sponsorship has been able to help me do that, so i am giving everything to this now and you can see that in my performances. I think winning this fight puts me ahead for big things.

“Manchester holds a really special place in my heart, I went to university here, I think Anthony would have been a bit upset if I’d fought in London, he wants to make it all about him as that’s where he won his World title, so I have to do what he says!”Cameron Vuong:

“100 per cent I will stop him. It’s not personal for me this fight, I called his name and he bit. If needs be, I’ll sit on the back foot and outbox him for ten rounds, i don’t believe he’s on my level and I’ll show him the levels on April 13.

“You don’t see many prospects taking these fights at 4-0 but I’ve got no interest in padding my record, I want to be a star in this sport in the future, I’ve got the skills and the ability to do so, so on April 13 he’ll get dealt with and we’ll move on.

“I’m not saying it’s where you come from you donut, you are from Oxford and you speak like some sort of bad man, a gangster. I’m not claiming to be bad; I don’t know what you are on about you clown, you are going to get dealt with.

“It’ll be a master class, he doesn’t have anything that can faze me boxing wise, he can’t punch, so however he wants it, I’ll sit and outbox him or put it on him late and get him out of there, I’m easy.”Jordan Flynn:

“I think it’s more of a risky fight for Cameron as there’s a lot of hype behind him, you guys have put a lot of money and attention into him, so him losing this, where does he go from there? You say where would I go if I lost, but I’m moving up a weight, five pounds, to fight him, so if I beat him where does he go? He’s meant to be the next top prospect, all the hype behind him, he gets beaten by a guy without the hype behind him, that would be a bad situation to be in.

“He’s probably underestimating me, he’s seen the two fights with Kane Baker and thinks I’m just a brawler and it’s an easy night’s work, but he’s in for a shock. He’s saying I’m from Oxford and this and that, it doesn’t matter where you come from, you can be from anywhere, if you can fight you can fight. You have been fighting bin men who don’t punch back.

“He’s a decent little boxer, he’s got more of an amateur style, he’s sharp I’m not going to say he’s a bum. He’s a decent little fighter but there’s levels to this game. He’s underestimating me.

“This will be the first fight he’s had where someone will throw a punch back, so we’ll see how he deals with it. I can see myself getting him out of there, I don’t know if he’s got ten rounds in him, we’ll see on April 13.”Michael Gomez Jr:

“Is Kane training in Mexico or is he on holiday? You can tell me. It doesn’t make a difference though, on April 13, he’s getting beaten regardless, he can train wherever he wants. I train in my little gym in Chadderton, I do what I do, simple as that.

“When you see the support that I bring I don’t know if you will have me on a card again, they are absolute lunatics, I feel for you there, you’ll need extra money for security!

“If he comes to meet me head-on, it’s like when two cars crash, one of them is coming off worse, and it’s not going to be me, I can promise you that.”Brandon Scott:

“I’ve been telling a. Lot of people that even I didn’t know how bad the extent of my injury was to my hand. Some hand specialist was telling me to retire, it was that bad, but then I went to see Mike Hayton and he said to me I can do an operation, and now my hand is stronger than ever, and I’ve even got a cool scar, metal in my hand like Wolverine. A lot of people know me from my last two fights where, yes, I feel I boxed well but I was limited, I showed I had one hand. So, I’ve told people, if you know my from my last two fights, just watch my next fight before you make any assumptions on my skills or anything.

“I can’t wait for the rest of this year, i get the chance to show everyone what I am made of. I’ve got gimmicks up my sleeve and I have fun in fight week, and I always will. But this is the chance to show people I’m as exciting in the ring as I am outside the ring.”

William Crolla:

“I’ve had one more since Liverpool and I got another stoppage and we’ve both said that activity plays a major part. I’m out this Saturday and then again on April 13, they are all little steps towards getting my own nights at the Arena like this one, every Manchester fighter dreams of headlining at the Arena and we’re just chipping and chipping away at that, and I think it’s going to be a good year.

“On my debut I loaded up on every shot and went looking for it, I didn’t look great. The two fights since then I haven’t gone looking for the KO and I’ve got two first round stoppages. I think I have a very fan-friendly style and it’s going to be a fun journey.

“I’m a lot more exciting than Anthony! I think people will see that I’m exciting and I’ll get my own Crolla army.”

Dominguez vs. Rivera fight for WBA Continental Americas belt

Two flyweight prospects will face off this Saturday at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando for the World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Americas title. The classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico showdown will be represented in this Andy Dominguez vs. Yankiel Rivera fight, which will be one of the most interesting of the night.

Dominguez debuted in 2020 and has made his entire career in the United States. The Mexico City native has been based in Las Vegas, where he has trained for every fight and now he will have a great opportunity in this event for the regional belt of the pioneer body.

At 25 years old, Dominguez has faced experienced opponents and has proven himself on more than one occasion, but now he will have a different challenge.

Rivera was a member of the Puerto Rican national team and participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, which closed his cycle in amateur boxing. He entered the professional arena with great expectations and has been winning good fights since his debut in 2022.

The 26-year-old from Bayamon has been adapting his style to the professional boxing to dominate thanks to his boxing and intelligence. This bout will be a big test for him and he must overcome it if he wants to keep moving up in his career.

Dominguez has 10 wins, no losses and 6 knockouts, while Rivera has 4 wins, 2 of them before the limit.

Andy Cruz defends his WBA regional belt against Zamarripa

Cuban sensation Andy Cruz will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA) Continental Latin America crown against Mexican Bryan Zamarripa this Saturday at the Caribe Royale Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

The 28-year-old lightweight fighter will be making his third professional fight and the first defense of his WBA regional belt.

Cruz won the belt on December 9 when he defeated Jovanni Straffon by knockout in three rounds during their fight in San Francisco. After a short break, the Antillean is ready for his return and intends to keep the crown in his possession.

His opponent this time will be Zamarripa, a tough Mexican who has good experience and has won 11 of his last 12 fights. The 26 year old fighter knocked out Giovanni De Jesus in his last fight held on December 16, in Baja California, so he is in good shape for this fight.

Cruz has 2 wins, 1 via fast track, while Zamarripa has 14 wins and 2 losses.

LONDON, UK (February 20, 2024) – Viddal Riley has signed a long-term contract extension to commit his future to BOXXER and Sky Sports.

The rising cruiserweight star joined BOXXER in 2021 and has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting talents in a thriving domestic division.

The 26-year-old captured the English Cruiserweight Title with a shut-out points victory over Nathan Quarless last September and is set to face his toughest career test as he steps up to face former British Champion Mikael Lawal as part of BOXXER’s bumper ‘Bad Blood’ bill on Sunday, March 31st at The O2 in London.

“My aim is to become world champion and with BOXXER and Sky Sports I know I’m in the right place to make that happen,” said Riley. “I’ve got a great team around me and a huge platform to showcase my skills.

“Winning the English Title is just the start. I want to work my way up to be British, European and then World champion. We’ve only just started and there’s an exciting road ahead. I can’t wait to continue my journey with BOXXER and Sky Sports.”

BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “We’re delighted that Viddal has signed a long-term contract extension. He is without a doubt one of the most talented and marketable fighters this country has produced. In the next 12 months, we are going to see him rise from English to World level. The sky’s the limit for Viddal and there’s nowhere better for him to be than with BOXXER on Sky Sports.”

An amateur standout, Riley was an eight-time national champion. He won silver at the 2013 European Junior Championship and represented Team GB at the 2014 Youth Olympic before turning pro with Mayweather Promotions in 2018.

Riley’s first fight under the BOXXER promotional banner was on the Amir Khan vs Kell Brook undercard on February 19th, 2022, where the Hackney-born fighter scored a unanimous points win against Willbeforce Shihepo.

Four stoppage victories followed as Riley continued to impress with wins over Jone Valau, Ross McGuigan and Anees Taj twice to set up his successful English Title challenge.

Riley has built a huge following online. His YouTube channel has over 1.2million subscribers. Outside of the ring, the multi-talented fighter releases his own mixtapes and music videos and has a clothing line dropping soon labelled ‘Livin’ Sports By RIL’.
