GUANAJUATO, MEXICO (Nov 6, 2019): Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano (32-7-1, 22 KOs) will defend his WBC International Silver Super Lightweight Title in a 10-round main event against Roberto “Massa” Ortiz (35-4-2, 26 KOs) in the Nov. 16 edition of Golden Boy Fight Night on Facebook Watch at The Plaza De Toros San Miguel De Allende in Guanajuato, Mexico. The fights will be streamed globally on Facebook Watch via the Golden Boy Fight Night Page.
Cano is a 30-year old contender from Tlalnepantla, Mexico, who in the beginning of this year scored the best victory of his career against Jorge “El Niño de Oro” Linares in dominant fashion. “I’m very happy, motivated and focused on my return to the ring,” said Roberto Ortiz. “I know it won’t be easy, but I have prepared to be in top shape both physically and mentally. I have always liked challenge and I know that this fight is a great opportunity to return to the world of boxing, so I’ve been training day by day with only one thing in mind: the victory.”

JOHN JOE NEVIN: “GOD GAVE ME A GIFT THAT I HAVE TO LOOK AFTER!”
London, UK (6 November 2019)Medics predicted John Joe Nevin had probably fought his last ring battle after both legs were broken by a thug wielding a golf club in a savage and cowardly street attack but, five years on, the Irish amateur legend find himself just one win from improbable world title contention.
If the Mullingar magician can cast a spell over Nicaraguan nightmare Freddy Fonseca and collect the WBA International Super-Featherweight strap at London’s York Hall on Saturday 16th November, he will gate crash the world rankings. The fight will be broadcast live and exclusive in the U.K on free-to-air Channel Five as chief support to the mouthwatering IBO World Super-Featherweight title clash between Alex Dilmaghani and Freddy’s brother Francisco Fonseca.
A pro for over five and a half years now, the former European amateur champion, 2012 Olympic finalist and two-time world medallist knows that this is his time to secure the glory and gold that his unquestionable ability merits.
He said, ’After turning pro in 2014, we wanted to attack the world titles pretty much straight away but, in hindsight, the injuries have been no bad thing. My body has been flat out at the boxing since I was 11 years old so the breaks have allowed my body time to recover. Where as some of my contemporaries are already burnt out, I’m a new man!
My hit and not get hit style means that, after about 250 amateur bouts – plus all those tough training camps with Cubans and Eastern Europeans – and 14 fights as a pro, I still haven’t a single mark on my face. For me, boxing has never been about taking hits. I want to know who I am in the morning.’
Though undefeated in 13 paid outings, British fans could be forgiven for losing track of the man who ran Team GB’s Luke Campbell to the wire in the 56 kg gold medal match at the London Olympics.
‘I started my pro career out in Philly (Philadelphia) under a guy called Tom Moran who’d previously worked closely with the likes of (world champions) Tim Witherspoon and Kassim Ouma,’ explains Nevin who sizzled in nine outings in US rings.
‘Already I’ve got a big profile on the East Coast of America, particularly with the Irish communities over there. If ever I got a chance to fight for the world title in the US, I’d command a very big following.’
Now the 5ft 8in five time All-Ireland Senior champion intends expanding his fan club on this side of The Pond and has recently linked up with Essex based trainer (and two time world title challenger) Jim McDonnell and has long-term manager Ron Boddy and Moran backing him.
‘Jim’s very likeable. My skills were already world class when I linked with him but he’s significantly improved my energy levels. My fitness is now 120%. Ron’s a tremendous, trustworthy guy with a good brain for boxing,’ says Nevin.
And over the next 12 months, this audaciously gifted box-fighter intends to replicate his considerable amateur accomplishments within the professional sphere.
‘I was ranked number one in the world in my division when I turned pro,’ he reminds us.
‘Now I’m gonna win lots of titles and earn a good few pounds. God gave me a gift that I have to look after. I’ve all the skills; the foot work, head movement, angles…It all comes so naturally and instinctively. At times, I do things I don’t know I’m doing.
‘I’d like to win the title over in the US, then defend it in a huge fight back in Dublin, 80,000 at Croke Park. That’s the dream.’
“HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AND SHE WILL ALWAYS BE AN ICON OF BRITISH SPORT.” | FRANK WARREN PAYS TRIBUTE TO CAREER OF NICOLA ADAMS OBE
FRANK WARREN HAS paid tribute to the career and achievements of Nicola Adams OBE after the WBO world flyweight champion announced her retirement from the sport earlier today.
The 37-year-old, known as ‘The Lioness’ can claim to be the undisputed Golden Girl of British boxing.
Her gold rush at major amateur tournaments began in 2011 at the European Union Amateur championships in Katowice, Poland, right through to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
The only blemish, if you can call it that, came at the 2012 World Championships when she collected silver, but otherwise it was gold all the way.
World champion, two-time Olympic champion, Commonwealth Games gold, European champion – Adams was truly the leading lady and pioneer of the modern elite of women’s boxing.
She became the pride of Britain in 2012 when, at the London Olympics, she defeated the world No.1 Ren Cancan from China in the final to claim the first Olympic women’s boxing Gold medal.
Four years on in Rio, Adams successfully defended her crown, defeating Sarah Ourahmoune of France in the final, leaving the only new ground to be broken being in the professional ranks.
Hall of Fame promoter Warren revealed he had been converted to the potential of women’s boxing by the accomplishments of Adams and proceeded to sign up the national treasure as a professional.
Adams launched her professional crusade in Manchester in April 2017 on the first show broadcast live by BT Sport, defeating Virginia Noemi Carcamo over four two minute rounds.
Frustrated with her display, Adams reasoned that females should also be able to perform over three minute rounds and was obliged when she returned to her home city of Leeds in the May, where she received a rousing reception from the locals at the FD Arena.
Maryan Salazar was stopped in the third round of a blistering display and the reward for Adams was a trip to Canada and a place on the undercard of the Billy Joe Saunders v David Lemieux world middleweight title fight. Soledad Macedo was overcome in the third round.
It was back to Leeds – this time Elland Road – in May of last year when former world title challenger Soledad del Valle Frias was blitzed in the first of ten scheduled rounds.
The WBO Interim world title was next on the Adams agenda at the Leicester Arena in October when Isabel Millan was in opposition. The Mexican proved a tough nut to crack but Adams prevailed on points to win her first title.
She was due to challenge for the full WBO at the Royal Albert Hall in March but injury prevented a fight with Arely Mucino going ahead. Adams was later appointed world champion without fighting by the WBO due to the inactivity of the former title holder.
In September Adams finally got the opportunity to fight in London for the first time since her Olympic success when she took on Maria Salinas in a first defence of her title at the Royal Albert Hall.
A closely-fought encounter that was deemed to be a split draw by the judges ultimately proved to be Adams’ curtain call as a professional boxer, bringing a glorious and unprecedented career to a close.
“It was my absolute pleasure and privileged to promote the professional career of Nicola and it is just a pity that it has come to a conclusion,” said promoter Frank Warren in reaction to the news of his first female star calling it a day.
“Nicola has that star quality in abundance that very few possess which will see her make a success of whatever she chooses to do.
“I am personally delighted that we guided Nicola to the winning of a world title and that she was able to realise that ambition in the professional ranks.
“Her accomplishments will go down in history and she will always be an icon of British sport. It is no secret that I, along with many others, once held reservations over the depth and marketability of women’s boxing in this country and it was Nicola who won us all over with her Olympic exploits, her unquestionable talent and huge personality.
“She will be much missed in the sport of boxing, but will remain an inspiration to others for many generations to come.”
WBA Elevates Danny Roman to Super Champion
ORANGE, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2019) – The accolades for unified world champion Danny Roman continue to pile up.
The latest comes from the WBA in elevating Roman as its Super Champion in the 122-pound division.
According to WBA rules, the organization, under special circumstances, may recognize any boxer as its Super Champion. The WBA considers Roman’s career achievements, exceptional boxing record and dominance of the division such a circumstance.
“I’m very grateful and honored to be the Super Champion,” Roman said. “The WBA title will always hold a special place in my heart. These title fights mean everything to me and I feel very fortunate that I’ve been able to make four successful title defenses.”
Roman, who also holds the IBF crown, is currently back in the gym training for WBA mandatory challenger Murodjon Akhmadaliev.
Earlier this year, Roman, 29, was forced to pull out of the original fight scheduled for September 13 due to tendinitis in his left shoulder.
With the injury healed and given subsequent medical clearance to resume training, Roman will soon make the fifth defense of the WBA title that he won two years ago with a knockout of Shun Kubo.
Roman is promoted by Thompson Boxing and Matchroom Boxing.

GERVONTA DAVIS AND BADOU JACK DISCUSS UPCOMING DECEMBER 28 MATCHUPS
WHAT: Gervonta Davis and Badou Jack met with members of the media last Saturday in Las Vegas to discuss their upcoming matchups taking place Saturday, December 28 live on SHOWTIME at the award-winning State Farm Arena in Atlanta in a special year-end Premier Boxing Champions event.
Two-time super featherweight champion Davis will take on former unified world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa for the WBA Lightweight World Championship as the 24-year-old Davis looks to conquer another division. In the co-main event of a special holiday SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast, former two-division champion Jack will challenge WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion Jean Pascal.
Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, GTD Promotions and TGB Promotions, are available through Ticketmaster.com.
Also participating in Saturday’s luncheon at Wolfgang Puck at MGM Grand were Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, and Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports & Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.
Here’s what the fighters and executives had to say:
GERVONTA DAVIS:
Thoughts about Gamboa and moving up in weight:
“We know Gamboa is a veteran and that he’s had a lot of wars, so we know we have a tough fight. He’s definitely dangerous. He can hit. He can fight.
“His last fight he made 134, so we know he can get bigger than me at that weight. I’m going into this knowing he’s a bigger fighter than me. I’m just going to bring my power and capitalize on that weight class and becoming world champion.
“I believe I’m one of the top fighters in the world, but I don’t compare myself to other fighters. I just go out and get the job done.
“Atlanta is my second home. I’m confident I’ll sell it out.”
On his ability and uniqueness as a fighter:
“I come from a different cloth than these other guys. I’ve been through everything in my life. A lot of people haven’t experienced what I have. If I ever get beat it would have to be by someone who’s been through what I have been through. It can’t be anyone who’s just been training all their life.
“Every time I step in the ring I’m willing to leave it all in there. A lot of people haven’t seen my full skills because I haven’t fought an opponent that has brought them out.”
On his potential in the sport:
“The boxing world hasn’t seen my true potential as a fighter, they’ve just seen my power. I’m the type of boxer where if you don’t belong in there with me, you won’t be in there too long. Some fighters like to take their time. I’m the type, if I know you’re not on my level, I’m going to show it. The world will see. I’ll fight anybody.”
BADOU JACK:
On his upcoming matchup against Pascal:
“I’m excited for this fight. I actually called Pascal the day before his last fight and let him know I was rooting for him. But this is business at the end of the day. I’m coming to take back my title.”
On how he feels at this age:
“I feel like a young 36 years old. I live a clean life. I’m always in the gym training and I try not to take any punishment. I have a couple of years left and I’m more motivated now than ever. I needed that little break. I hadn’t had a break since I was an amateur twenty years ago. I took time to relax with the family and eat good food. Now I’m hungry.”
On his last performance against Marcus Browne:
“Everyone who saw me in my last fight could see I was flat. My fighting instinct kicked in at that point. He was fighting a dead man.”
On the Davis vs. Gamboa matchup:
“It’s a great fight. Gamboa is a little older, but he looked good in his last fight. I’m a big, big fan of Tank – the way he fights, his speed, his athleticism, everything. He has star power. He was on my undercard, now I’m on his. He’s going to bring great things to the sport and as long as he stays focused, he’s going to be a superstar. He’s already a superstar.”
LEONARD ELLERBE:
On Davis’ position and progression in the sport:
“We’re going to show everyone how he’s going to become the biggest star in the sport. In 2020 we’re going to blow this out of the water. We’ve been able to think outside the box. That’s how you grow the sport. We’ve made a concerted effort to cross him over to the mainstream; working with the Baltimore Ravens, his parade, now Atlanta.
“Our plan is to make the biggest and best fights out there. We’re going to call the shots and it’s going to be on our terms, and we’ll let everyone know when that happens. Everyone wants to fight Tank. There’s one common thing when you talk about 126, 130, 135, and now 140. There’s one name that’s common among the fighters and that’s Tank. This is going to be a great journey and you better get on it now.
“If he can get past Gamboa on December 28, then in 2020 he’s going into that pay-per-view world. When you have that kind of star power and you’re thinking outside of the box, not just boxing fans, we’re going to make the biggest fights out there in the world.”
On Badou Jack:
“Badou’s a promoter’s dream. He’s a guy who gives you no problems. He’s out there doing wonderful things for himself and his family. He’s doing so much to help so many others. He’s using his platform in the right way. It’s an honor to work with a fighter like him.
“I always knew he was a great talent and sometimes you can find the diamonds in the rough. Everyone’s always looking at the guys coming out of the Olympics. We saw him in the gym and he really messed a guy up. We had an eye on him and we worked out a deal with Lou [DiBella] and the rest is history.
“We had one setback, but everything happens for a reason, and he’s just taken off since. He’s a great fighter and I like the fact that he’s always willing to fight the best. Never had to second guess that he’s willing to fight everybody.”
STEPHEN ESPINOZA:
“There are advantages and disadvantages to promoting a show on this date. There has been a lot of success promoting music shows on that weekend. It’s not apples to apples, but it’s one of the factors that went in and there’s a way to turn this into something special and unique because of Gervonta’s fan base.
“It’s great to have skilled boxers but we need, for the health of the sport, guys like Gervonta who are putting butts in the seats. That’s the key in bringing him to Atlanta. Boxing is a part of a culture that crosses over into music and sports. There’s not an athlete who doesn’t watch a pay-per-view boxing match. Tapping into that with a personality like Tank is only going to expand the sport.
“There’s an authenticity and an openness about Gervonta. There’s a lot of people who’ve had setbacks who don’t talk about it, like Tank. It takes a risk to talk about that and that’s why a lot of people can relate. This is Tank. What you see is what you get. It’s very real. It’s very authentic and I think that’s why people connect with him the person as opposed to him the fighter.”
Highly Anticipated WBC Super Welterweight Title Rematch Between Tony Harrison & Jermell Charlo Headlines Live in Primetime on FOX PBC Fight Night & On FOX Deportes Saturday, December 21 from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California – 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT
ONTARIO, Calif. (November 5, 2019) – The highly anticipated WBC Super Welterweight Title rematch between Tony “Superbad” Harrison and Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo will headline live in primetime in FOX PBC Fight Night Action and on FOX Deportes Saturday, December 21 from Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.
Harrison vs. Charlo II is a high-voltage rematch that has been building ever since the end of the first matchup. The two were set to meet in June, but the rematch was postponed when Harrison suffered torn ligaments after spraining his ankle in training.
Now that he is fully healed, Harrison is ready to solidify his hold on the title while Charlo is ready to take back what he believes belongs to him. The rematch comes just one day short of a full year from the first time the two stepped into ring against each other on FOX.
“After a dramatic and razor thin first fight, Tony Harrison and Jermell Charlo are sure to be at their best on December 21 when they settle their rivalry in a can’t miss rematch,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “This is the kind of high stakes 50-50 fight that belongs in primetime on FOX and I know that the Southern California boxing fans watching in Ontario will love everything that these two champions bring to the ring.”
Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Lions Only Promotions and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.
In the first meeting, Harrison deployed a tactical defensive strategy that blunted much of the force of Charlo’s high-powered offense. The intrigue of the rematch is whether Harrison will be able to use a similar strategy to remain champion or will Charlo be able to impose his will on Harrison and regain the title.
The 29-year-old Harrison (28-2, 21 KOs) entered the first match against Charlo having come up short in his previous world title attempt. He lost to Jarrett Hurd in a bid for the IBF title in 2017. Harrison, a protégé of the late Emanuel Steward and a native of Detroit, bounced back with three strong performances, including a decision victory over former world champion Ishe Smith.
“The delay just made me even hungrier heading into this fight,” said Harrison. “Watching Charlo the night we were supposed to go shine, and rejuvenate himself, it built up so much hunger in me. I’m tired of the talk and the noise. I’m ready to go.
“We’re looking to work smarter this time,” added Harrison. “I think everything I did before worked, but we want to make it even more decisive. The plan is to be more technically sound overall. You may see an early knockout. It’s tense between both parties. I’m pretty sure he wants to knock me out as much as I want to knock him out. Whoever has the best plan will win. But I’m by far the better athlete. Athlete for athlete it’s not even close. I’ll beat him in everything, running, basketball, football. My style is perfect for his style. He’s Shane Mosley to my Vernon Forrest. I’ll beat him every time I face him.”
It was an emotional night for Charlo (32-1, 16 KOs) the first time he fought Harrison. He and his twin brother, Jermall, the WBC Middleweight World Champion, were defending their titles on a FOX PBC Fight Night doubleheader at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Jermell and many ringside observers thought he had done enough to beat Harrison, but the judges saw it differently, handing Harrison a unanimous decision victory and setting up a hotly contested rematch.
A 29-year-old native of Houston, Texas, Charlo, won the title with a knockout victory over John Jackson in 2016. He went on to establish himself as one of the best young finishers in the sport with devastating stoppage victories over Charles Hatley and Erickson Lubin in defense of the title. He scored a majority decision over former world champion Austin Trout before taking on Harrison and most recently scored a knockout victory over Jorge Cota on FOX in June.
“I still feel strongly that I won that first fight and I’m going to do things in a more dominant fashion this time,” said Charlo. “I’m coming in to this fight being the overpowering, strong, ferocious Jermell Charlo. Tony Harrison is not on my level. It’s my job on December 21 to prove that and to prove my worth. I’m coming in there mentally focused. When I fought Jorge Cota, that’s a prelim of what’s to be expected from me in the future.
“I want to look for the knockout and set it up,” continued Charlo. “I don’t want it to go the judges. That’s my worst nightmare. If it does go 12 rounds, he’s going to be very injured at the end. The loss taught me how to be more patient and to take things step-by-step. I’m going to show everyone why Jermell Charlo is a threat to the whole 154-pound division. I personally feel I’m the best in the division. I’m an upgraded Jermell Charlo that you’ll see on December 21.”

Boxing’s Best Kept Secret Undefeated WBC Youth World lightweight champion Jamaine “The Technician” Ortiz
WORCESTER, Mass. (November 5, 2019) – Undefeated World Boxing Youth World lightweight championJamaine “The Technician” Ortiz (12-0, 6 KOs) is, perhaps, the best prospect in the world who most boxing fans don’t know.
A large part of the problem, however, is that the 23-year-old Ortiz, born and raised in the fighting city of Worcester, MA, never aspired to be a professional boxer, despite having a decorated amateur career.
He started boxing when he was six years old, thanks to National Golden Gloves Hall of Fame trainer Carlos Garcia, who has run the boxing program at the Worcester Boys & Girls Club for nearly 40 years.
The naturally gifted Ortiz compiled an outstanding 100-14 amateur record, highlighted by a silver medal at the 2015 National Golden Gloves Tournament, in which he lost in the championship final to future professional world champion Joselito Lopez, plus back-to-back gold medal performances at the New England Tournament of Champions in 2015 & 2016.
Testimony to Ortiz’ promising potential was his final amateur match, which was a solid victory against Abraham “Super” Nova, who is 17-0 (13 KOs) as a professional, as well as the reigning North American Boxing Association champion, and rated by the World Boxing Association (WBA) as the No. 8 super featherweight in the world.
“Turning pro wasn’t my end goal,” consummate boxer Ortiz said. “It really wasn’t on my mind. I focused on regional and national tournaments. I always thought I’d win an Olympic gold medal and then turn pro. I wish I had been better prepared to turn pro.
“People that know me didn’t even realize that I had turned pro. It took a while before I adjusted, but I never really transitioned. Others had a game plan; I didn’t have a clue, but soon realized trophies I won in the amateurs weren’t going to pay the bills. Most of my fans today are other fighters and coaches.”
When his Olympic dream ended, after he lost in the semifinals of the Olympic Trials, that’s when his promoter, Jimmy Burchfield (Classic Entertainment and Sports / CES), and co-adviser, Providence businessman Richard Shappy got involved in Ortiz’ pro career. They’ve invested time, money and energy, believing in Ortiz and his tremendous potential.
“For years,” explained Shappy, who advises Ortiz along with Eddie Imondi,” I kept telling Jimmy (Burchfield) that I was interested in getting involved with a boxer, but that it had to be the right one. One day Jimmy called to say this (Ortiz) is the one. I jumped onboard. He convinced me that Jamaine is a future world champion. We jumped in from his first fight, on the ground floor, and we believe he is going to be world champion.”
Burchfield has promoted the likes of five-time world champion Vinny Paz, U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada, Ray Oliveira, Gary Balletto, Peter Manfredo, Jr. and many others during his 25-plus years in the boxing industry. “Jamaine is the best I’ve promoted since Vinny Paz,” Burchfield claimed without hesitation. “He’s one of the best prospects in the world today and someday he’ll be world champion. Some say he has the good looks of Oscar de la Hoya; others feel his style is like that of ‘Sugar’ Ray Leonard.”
When his Olympic dream unceremoniously ended, he decided to turn pro in 2016, winning his pro debut when Josh Parker retired after one round. The highlight of his young pro career to date was winning an eight-round unanimous decision this past February from previously undefeated (10-0) Ricardo Quiroz to capture the vacant WBC Youth World lightweight title, the same belt once proudly worn by, ironically, the aforementioned Lopez, as well as Juan Diaz and Daniel Estrada.
Past CES-promoted fighters who were WBC World Youth champions include three-time world champion “Bad” Chad Dawson and Polish heavyweight Maruisz Wach.
In his last fight and first WBC World Youth title defense this past August, Ortiz won a dominating eight-round unanimous decision over 8-1-1 Romain Couture, pitching a shutout by winning each round on all three judges’ scorecards.
Ortiz’ time to star in the ring is coming. He is a diamond in the rough; young, talented and with tremendous upside. He has a strong team behind him, including head coach Rocky Gonzalez and Garcia, who is still working his corner
Ortiz’ fan-base will eventually develop and quickly grow as more and more boxing fans discover this gifted boxer as he ascends to the top of the boxing mountain.
2020 promises to be the “Year of The Technician,” Jamaine Ortiz.
Henry “World Star” Arredondo Remains Undefeated
SAN ANTONIO, TX (November 5, 2019) – This past Saturday from the San Antonio Shrine Auditorium in San Antonio, Texas, Henry “World Star” Arredondo (8-0, 4 KOs) picked up the biggest win of career by beating fellow undefeated foe, Rafael Morales (3-1 1KO), via an eight-round unanimous decision.
Arredondo was tested against a fighter tough as nails and had to dig deep to pull out the victory, which he did.
“Rafael Morales is a really tough fighter and I have a ton of respect for him.,” said Arredondo. “I had to fight with all my heart to be able to beat him, it wasn’t an easy fight, but I know these are the type of fights that make me better. As I step up in competition, I know the fights are going to get tougher. I was determined to get the victory and I came out on top.”
Arredondo saw a three-fight knockout streak come to an end, but his coach is fine with his performance.
“We can’t knock out every opponent, and Rafael Morales is the type of fighter that helped ‘World Star’ get rounds in early in his career,” said Rick Nunez, Arredondo’s coach and mentor. “I know he can develop into a great fighter. We all love knockouts, but we love fighters who can win at the highest levels of the sport. This kid had a lot movement and I like what I saw from Henry as he made the proper adjustments.”

Homecoming King Manfredo Jr. returns November 23
Providence, RI (November 5, 2019) — Rhode Island boxing icon Peter Manfredo Jr., “The Pride of Providence,” returns to the ring Saturday, November 23 to headline the second event of CES Boxing’s UFC FIGHT PASS® year-end tripleheader at Twin River Casino Hotel.
Fighting for the first time since 2016, Manfredo Jr. (40-7-1, 21 KOs) faces “The Romantic Redneck” Melvin Russell (11-7-2, 7 KOs) of Lloyd, KY, in a 10-round light heavyweight bout, one of four bouts on the UFC FIGHT PASS® stream.
Tickets for the event start at $49 and are available online at www.cesboxing.com, and www.showclix.com or by phone at 401-724-2253. Doors open at 5 p.m. ET with the first preliminary bout beginning at 6. The UFC FIGHT PASS® stream begins at 8 p.m. ET with CES Boxing publicist and matchmaker Michael Parente handling play-by-play and commentary. UFC FIGHT PASS® subscriptions are available at www.ufcfightpass.com.
The buzz is beginning to reach its fever pitch as Manfredo Jr., born and raised in the Federal Hill neighborhood of Providence, returns to the Ocean State, where he’s fought 22 times since making his professional debut at Rhode Island’s historic Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet in 2000. Manfredo Jr. also helped launch Twin River’s Event Center in 2007, knocking out veteran Ted Muller in the main event of the casino’s first live combat sports event.
Nineteen years and more than 100 shows later, Twin River is once again home to “The Pride of Providence,” who hopes to improve upon his unbeaten record of 7-0-1 at the venue. One of Rhode Island’s most accomplished fighters in this, or any, era, Manfredo Jr. is a former IBO world middleweight champion and former three-time world title challenger who rose to fame on Season 1 of The Contender reality television series. He became a household name on the show following his win over Alfonso Gomez in 2005 and later went toe-to-toe twice with Sergio Mora and challenged Joe Calzaghe and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for world titles.
Fighting just a stone’s throw from where he grew up in Federal Hill, Manfredo Jr. returned to the Ocean State in 2006 following his run on The Contender and dazzled fans at The Dunkin’ Donuts Center with knockout wins over regional standouts Scott Pemberton and Joey Spina, arguably the most dominant stretch of his career. In 2012, he returned to Twin River with an impressive win over veteran Rayco Saunders and then honored lifetime friend and fellow Rhode Island legend Gary Balletto a year later with a knockout win over in-state rival Rich Gingras, wearing Balletto’s trunks to the ring just four months after Balletto was paralyzed in an accident at his home.
The legend continues November 23 as Manfredo Jr. returns to write the next chapter in his storied career, his first bout since May of 2016 when he and “Mr. Providence” Vladine Biosse fought to a draw in the highly-publicized “Battle for the Capital” at Twin River.
“This is going to be a night to remember,” said CES Boxing president Jimmy Burchfield Sr., who helped launch Manfredo Jr.’s pro career nearly two decades ago. “The Homecoming King is back! What could be better than the return of living legend Peter Manfredo Jr. on combat sports’ No. 1 streaming platform? The beautiful Twin River Casino Event Center is the place to be November 23. The crowd noise will be deafening and many of our sport’s young stars will get the opportunity to share the ring with a true legend — a fighter, father and husband who they look up to as a role model. You cannot miss this event!”
Manfredo Jr. will be joined on UFC FIGHT PASS® by several Rhode Island fan-favorites, including Cranston junior welterweight Nick DeLomba (15-2, 4 KOs), who faces Argentinian Diego Vicente Perez (13-8-1, 11 KOs) in the eight-round co-main event. The live stream also features an intriguing six-round Fight of the Night candidate between unbeaten super featherweights Michael Valentin (6-0-1, 1 KO) of Providence and Joshua Orta (5-0, 2 KOs) of Holbrook, MA, plus a six-round welterweight war between undefeated Providence native Victor Reynoso (5-0, 5 KOs) and the dangerous Roque Zapata (6-2-5) of Culpeper, VA.
DeLomba returns to Twin River for the first time in more than a year and puts his four-fight win streak on the line against the dangerous Perez, who has won five of his last six, all by knockout. DeLomba last fought in Rhode Island in September of 2018, defeating Chris Singleton by unanimous decision, and most recently fought in July with a knockout win over Rynell Griffin in New Hampshire.
Valetin and Orta could steal the show November 23. The two have had their sights set on one another since Orta turned pro in 2018. Since then, Orta has racked up five wins in the past year while Valentin also boasts an undefeated record at 6-0-1.
Reynoso is also facing his toughest test date. An officer at Bridgewater State Hospital in Massachusetts, Reynoso recently made quick work of Kenny Chery in August, winning by third round knockout for his fifth knockout victory in as many fights. Zapata, a veteran of 13 fights, has never been stopped and has scored upset wins on the road against Philadelphia’s Isaiah Wise and Fred Jenkins Jr. and Reading, PA, vet Nicolas Hernandez.
The preliminary card features an eclectic mix of veterans and newcomers, starting with Brian Barbosa (31-7, 23 KOs) of Providence making his long-awaited return and the professional boxing debut of Gary Balletto III, the son of the iconic “Tiger” Balletto, who amassed a pro record of 31-3-2. Cranston’s Balletto is transitioning from the cage to the ring, boxing professionally for the first time following seven professional MMA fights with CES MMA between 2015 and 2018.
Barbosa is back for the first time since 2013. “The Bull” ran off an impressive streak of 11 consecutive knockouts between 1994 and 1997 as one of the region’s top fighters and also returned from an eight-year layoff in 2011 with a knockout win over Rhode Island rival Joe Gardner. A former USBA and NABO middleweight champion, Barbosa went on to face former super welterweight world champion Carl Daniels in an IBF title eliminator in 2000 and
Also on the preliminary card, super lightweight Wilson Mascarenhas (2-1) of New Bedford, MA, faces undefeated Jose Zaragoza (2-0) of Sedalia, MO, and female lightweight Shayna Foppiano (1-0-1, 1 KO) of Everett, MA, battles Brazilian Raquel Santos, who also lives and trains in Everett and will be making her pro debut. Both are four-round bouts. Brockton, MA, heavyweight Chad Leoncello also makes his professional debut in a four-round bout.

YOU BEAT DAMAGED GOODS, SAYS BOWEN
SAM BOWEN BELIEVES his domestic super featherweight rivals have simply been feasting on his leftovers while he has been out of action.
‘Bullet’ Bowen has been marked absent since March when he made a first defence of his British title against Jordan McCorry in Leicester, stopping the Scot in the ninth round of a roughhouse encounter that saw McCorry docked two points for illegal manoeuvres.
The 15-0 champion was then sidelined with a back injury that saw him miss out on a summer defence of his crown, which will now take place against the avoided Belfast man Anthony Cacace at Arena, Birmingham on November 30.
During Bowen’s enforced absence, both Archie Sharp and Zelfa Barrett took the opportunity of measuring themselves up against the game McCorry. Sharp defended his WBO European title with a points victory, while Barrett put his Commonwealth belt on the line and won via a ninth round stoppage.
Sharp and Barrett both delivered impressive performances and laid claim to be leader of the Brit Pack, but Bowen questions the validity of the statements posted by the pair because he suspects the motivation of McCorry was diminished following the bruising defeat to himself.
“They’ve only boxed the lad I boxed in March,” pointed out the 27-year-old from Ibstock. “He’s been beat and wasn’t really that bothered. Another loss to him was nothing.
“So they’ve gone and beat him, which was expected,” added Bowen, who doesn’t feel that McCorry boxed with the same intensity against Sharp and Barrett as he did when up against himself.
“He was quite dirty when he fought me, with avoiding body shots by going low. The when he fought Sharp he started off a bit slower than I thought he would, where I thought he might have a chance.
“I said to Carl (trainer/manager Greaves) the other day that if Zelfa knocked him out in the first round it wouldn’t really mean a lot to me because he’s had a few losses and knows he hasn’t got many more fights left in him and he was being paid half-alright for it.”
Bowen was also an interested viewer when Sharp subsequently fought the lively Irishman Declan Geraghty at the Royal Albert Hall and suspects he has identified a weakness in the ‘Sharpshooter’ that Geraghty was unable to exploit due to being of the same ilk as a fighter.
“They both boxed very, very similar – hands low, flashy, moving – and looked exactly the same when I watched it. Then he caught him and knocked him out with a good shot.
“He don’t like pressure though, I know that. The last few rounds when he boxed McCorry he was just on the back foot and I could tell he was uncomfortable.
“I thought, if that was me and I was landing the shots and hitting him, he ain’t gonna like that, Sharp or Barrett.”
So, should Cacace be accounted for in Birmingham at the end of the month, which name out of Sharp and Barrett would be written on the bullet?
“Either, I’m not fussed. I think if I fought Sharp it would probably be more awkward because I’d have to track him down as he would be running. With Zelfa it would be more of a scrap because he likes to trade a little bit.
“I’d beat them both though so it makes no difference to me.”
Sam Bowen v Anthony Cacace for the British super featherweight championship features on a stacked night of title action at Arena, Birmingham on November 30. WBO world bantamweight champion Zolani Tete defends his title against mandatory challenger John Riel Casimero and British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Chris Jenkins makes a defence against Liam Taylor. Lerrone Richards also takes on Lennox Clarke for the Commonwealth and vacant British super middleweight belt.
Sam Maxwell defends his WBO European super lightweight title against the also unbeaten Connor Parker from Derbyshire, while Hamzah Sheeraz will fight for his first major title at super welterweight.
Thrilling prospects Dennis McCann, Shabaz Masoud, Eithan James and George Davey also feature on the bill, along with talents from the local region in Nathan Heaney and River Wilson-Bent.
“TONGAN TYSON” HEMI AHIO JOINS STABLEMATE JUNIOR FA IN ACTION
New York, NY (November 5, 2019) DiBella Entertainment has signed Undefeated Heavyweight Contender Hemi “The Heat” Ahio (15-0, 10 KOs), of Auckland, New Zealand, to an exclusive promotional contract.
The hard-hitting Ahio will make his debut under the DiBella Entertainment banner on Friday, November 15, in a scheduled 10-round bout against Joshua Tufte (19-3, 9 KOs), of Kernersville, NC, at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. The featured attraction bout of the Broadway Boxing event will be live streamed exclusively on UFC FIGHT PASS®, the world’s leading digital subscription service for combat sports, starting at 9:00 p.m. MST/11:00 p.m. EST/8:00 p.m. PST.
Advance tickets, priced at $200 VIP, $100 Ringside, $60 and $30, plus service fees, are on sale now and can be purchased HERE. The Salt Palace Convention Center is located at 100 S W Temple in Salt Lake City, UT 84101. Doors will open on the night of the event at 7:00 p.m. MST. Broadway Boxing is presented by Nissan of Queens, Azad Watches, OPTYX, Christos Steak House and Gagliardi Insurance.
“I’m really appreciative of DiBella Entertainment having the faith in me to be successful in the United States,” said the 29-year-old Ahio. “Bring on the good times. I can’t wait to fight on Friday, November 15.”
“Hemi has the potential to be a big player in the heavyweight division,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Known as the ‘Tongan Tyson’ in New Zealand, he’s a huge puncher with fast hands and an exciting come-forward style. Coming off a big knockout of an undefeated prospect in Saudi Arabia, Hemi is back in the US and ready to shine on UFC Fight Pass, Friday, November 15 in Salt Lake City.”
Renowned as a street fighter in Auckland, Ahio was jumped by six assailants in early 2013 in his hometown and stabbed in the chest. Despite his life-threatening injury, Ahio was able to knock out three of his attackers with the other three running away from the free-swinging, bloodied New Zealander. Following the notorious incident, Ahio was taken to a boxing gym by his uncle and had his first professional bout on October 18, 2013, which he won by first-round knockout.
With his tremendous hand speed and devastating power, the aggressive Kiwi heavyweight, born to Tongan parents, has drawn comparisons stylistically to a young Mike Tyson. Ahio captured the IBO Oceania-Orient and New Zealand Heavyweight Titles, winning a unanimous decision in his first 10-rounder against Daniel Tai in September 2017. Victorious three times in 2019, he returns to the United States following a first-round knockout of Ali Kiydin on July 12 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. On March 2, 2019, Ahio made his US debut with a seventh-round stoppage versus Ed Fountain in Columbus, Ohio.
Headlining the Broadway Boxing event, fellow New Zealand heavyweight Junior Fa (18-0, 10 KOs) battles US Olympian Devin Vargas (21-5, 9 KOs), of Sylvania, OH, in a scheduled 10-round bout.

Putting on a show for all the Filipino people, it’s always something I am excited for. Rene Catalan is a worthy challenger. He’s riding a six-bout winning streak and is full of confidence. I am expecting only the best from him. As always, I take this as an opportunity to test my skills. He’s a veteran who has been fighting his whole life. I have also been impressed by his recent performances, especially against Yoshitaka Naito. It’s rare that a Filipino will fight another Filipino for a World Title. But I’m glad to be part of history.”
Rene Catalan, ONE World Title Challenger, stated: “I am super confident heading into this matchup. Becoming a mixed martial arts world champion has been a goal of mine for a long time. Now, I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream. I know chances like this don’t come often, so I’m giving this everything I have. I don’t plan on leaving the Circle without that belt. Joshua Pacio is a young champion, he still has his entire career ahead of him. I respect his skills and his journey up to this point. But once that cage door shuts, it’s go time. No matter who wins, the honor and glory go to the Philippines.”
Eduard Folayang, former ONE Lightweight World Champion, stated: “I am glad to be back competing again. I know my back is against the wall right now. This year hasn’t exactly gone to plan. But I’ve been working hard. I know victory is important this time. I’m facing a hungry opponent from Mongolia who will be looking to beat a big name. I’ve been in this situation before and I know what I need to do. I’m a veteran of this sport, and I’ve been doing this for a long time. Still, I feel confident in making another run at the ONE Lightweight World Title. My journey starts anew at home in Manila.”
Geje Eustaquio, former ONE Flyweight World Champion, stated: “I’m coming into this next bout with something to prove. Things haven’t gone my way this year, and I’ve had a lot of learning opportunities. I can honestly say that I am a better martial artist now than ever before. This rematch with Toni Tauru is very important for me, because it’s a win I would like to get back. I want to be known as ‘The King of Rematch’ and beating Tauru will prove that. Watch out Manila! Team Lakay is coming!”
Robin Catalan, ONE Athlete, stated: “First of all, I’m really excited to be a part of this card. The Philippines has the most amazing martial arts fans in the world, and I am proud to represent my country on the global stage. I’ve put a lot into this camp, and I am fixated on getting the victory. All my hard work will pay off soon. I would like to thank ONE Championship for continuing to give me the opportunity to showcase my skills. I feel like I’ve improved a lot since my first fight. Now I’m ready to show the world that I’m a serious contender in this division. Breakfast and Boxing: Australia’s Moloney Brothers to Fight LIVE on ESPN+ November 15
Nov. 4, 2019) — Andrew and Jason Moloney, Australian twin brothers separated by three pounds, will be featured in separate bouts on a special early-morning edition of “Breakfast and Boxing” on ESPN+ Friday, Nov. 15 from Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia.
Former world title challenger Jason Moloney will defend his WBA Oceania bantamweight belt in a 10-rounder against Nicaraguan veteran Dixon Flores, while Andrew Moloney will battle Elton Dharry for the WBA interim super flyweight world title.
This special Down Under stream will begin at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT and also features the four-round heavyweight bout between undefeated former rugby star Paul Gallen (9-0, 5 KOs) and retired Australian rules footballer Barry Hall, who will be making his pro debut.
“This is not an easy fight for me, but I have a point to prove,” Jason Moloney said. “I have waited a long time to fight for the world title again, and I want to show the world why I deserve a crack at any of the world champions. I’m coming into my prime, and I know I will give any bantamweight in the world the fight of their lives.
“This could be my last fight in Australia for a long time, so I’m glad it’s on a show of this magnitude. I plan on putting on a memorable performance that people will remember for years to come.”
Said Andrew Moloney: “Nobody wants to fight Dharry. He is a tough, strong fighter that comes to win. It’s going to be a fantastic fight, and I can’t wait to put on a show for the fans in America watching on ESPN+. The chance to fight for a world title in Melbourne is a dream come true, and I’ve worked 16 years for this moment. There is no way I am going to lose this fight.”
Andrew Moloney (20-0, 13 KOs) won a WBA world title eliminator in March when he traveled to Chile and knocked out hometown hero Miguel Angel Gonzalez in the eighth round. He last fought June 15 in Tweed Heads, Australia, knocking out Selemani Bangaiza in the second round of a fight that streamed live on ESPN+. A former Commonwealth and WBA Oceania champion, he has won three in a row by knockout, including a 10th-round stoppage over former world champion Luis Concepcion. Dharry (24-5-1, 14 KOs), who is from Guyana and now based in Brooklyn, is unbeaten in more than a decade after starting his career 3-5-1.
Jason Moloney (19-1, 16 KOs) is seeking his third consecutive win since an October 2018 split decision loss to Emmanuel Rodriguez for the IBF bantamweight world title. He is ranked in the top five by all major sanctioning organizations and hopes a victory over Flores will earn him a second title shot. Flores (16-6-3, 5 KOs) is unbeaten in his last three fights and is coming off a second-round knockout over Alexander Espinoza (18-1-2 at the time).

MANCHESTER, Conn. (November 4, 2019) – The true test for a genuine boxing prospect is how he or she responds to adversity, whether it included a loss, cut, knockdown or, in the case of “Marvelous” Mykquan Williams, a disputed decision that tarnished his perfect pro record.
The 21-year-old Williams, now 15-0-1 (7 KOs), was recently on the short end of a highly disputed eight-round draw with Tre’Sean Wiggins (11-4-3, 6 KOs), in the “Broadway Boxing” main event held at Generoso Pope Athletic Complex on the campus of St. Francis College in Brooklyn.
Nobody claimed the questionable decision was highway robbery, yet, most non-partisan fans at the show, or those watching live on UFC FIGHT PASS®, felt Williams rightfully deserved to have his arms raised in victory. Despite having a blemish placed on his pro record, he didn’t suffer a loss, and did retain his World Boxing Council (WBC) United States super lightweight title.
Williams’ opponent was a southpaw with a five-inch height advantage. Once he felt Williams’ power, especially in the liver, Wiggins went into survival mode, clutching and grabbing every time Williams got close.
Neither Williams nor his head trainer, Paul Cichon, was pleased when the judges’ scores were announced – 77-75 in favor of Williams, 76-76 twice – for a majority draw. Never-the-less, both feel that this developmental lesson will pay dividends down the road.
“The plan was for me to work inside,” Williams said after the fight. “The first and second were feeling out rounds and then I’d adjust. I didn’t feel from the start that he could hurt me. I wanted to get inside and beat him with body punches. I did that but I think I played to the crowd a little too much. I’d change that if I could go back. And I would have let my hands go more, but I won this fight because I landed the harder, cleaner more effective shots throughout the fight. He just wanted to hold.
“I’m disappointed because I was defending my title, but I didn’t lose the fight and I still have my belt. I ll have a lot to learn and I’ll be back in the gym soon to fix errors I made so that I won’t have those issues my next fight.”
Cichon felt that Williams won five if not six rounds because he was the aggressor throughout the match. “I was surprised,” he admitted. “Mykye was the champion and I thought that he (Wiggins) would have needed to win convincingly to win rounds. He didn’t. Mykye started using his double jab to get inside and then he killed his opponent’s body. The body shots brought Wiggins’ hands down. Mykye stalked and hurt him a few times.
“Mykye learned a valuable lesson like not letting the crowd get to him, and never letting up on the gas.Wiggins was smart. Every time Mykye got close to him, he grabbed him, especially after he felt Mykye’s powerful body shots. It may have been ugly, but he fought smart.”
Team Williams agrees that there’s no sense rushing Williams, after all, he’s only 21, but that 2020 should be an active, career-changing year for the East Hartford (CT) fighter.
“I’m ready to fight at the next level,” Williams concluded. “Time will tell. Styles make fights but I hurt him (Wiggins) several times.”
“We’ll jump back in the ring in early 2020,” Cichon added. “We’re looking to fight opponents with winning records, but not another six-foot southpaw.”
“I was very proud of Mykey,” Williams’ manager Jackie Kallen commented. It was a learning experience that will make him an even greater fighter. He is still undefeated and one of the top young prospects in the 140-pound division. The next year will be a pivotal one for him.”
TICKETS ON SALE TOMORROW, TUESDAY NOVEMBER 5 AT 10 A.M. ET FOR GERVONTA “TANK” DAVIS VS. YURIORKIS GAMBOA WORLD TITLE FIGHT AT STATE FARM ARENA IN ATLANTA
ATLANTA (November 4, 2019) – Tickets are on sale tomorrow, Tuesday, November 5 at 10 a.m. ET for the event headlined by two-time super featherweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Mayweather Promotions’ top rising star and boxing’s hottest attraction, as he takes on former unified world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa for the WBA Lightweight Title live on SHOWTIME Saturday, December 28 at the award-winning State Farm Arena in Atlanta in a special year-end Premier Boxing Champions event.
Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, GTD Promotions and TGB Promotions, are available through Ticketmaster.com.
The special holiday SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and features WBA Light Heavyweight Champion Jean Pascal battling two-division champion Badou Jack in the co-main event.
Davis has recently made Atlanta his home away from home when he’s not in training camp, and will look to grab a world title in a second weight class when he takes on the tough Cuban former champion in Gamboa. This will be Atlanta’s first major boxing event in years as the fan-favorite Davis looks to close out the year in style and build on a tremendous performance in his Baltimore homecoming in July.
“Since I became a main event fighter, my last two fights have been sell outs,” said Davis. “That’s a great accomplishment for someone who’s only twenty-four years old. I’m looking forward to selling out State Farm Arena in Atlanta for my third sell out in a row. There have been tons of people asking my team when tickets go on sale. Don’t make the mistake of waiting. Get your tickets early before they’re all sold out. I’ll see you all in Atlanta on December 28!”
“December 28 marks Gervonta’s third headlining event of 2019 and he continues to validate his star power every time he’s on the big stage,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. “From Los Angeles in February to Baltimore in July, both events were star-studded sellouts and I expect nothing different in Atlanta at State Farm Arena. If you’re planning to be in the building on fight night, don’t wait to get your tickets.”

January 18: Eleider Alvarez and Michael Seals Set for Light Heavyweight Slugfest LIVE on ESPN+ at Turning Stone Resort Casino
VERONA, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2019) — Two of the light heavyweight’s division’s most explosive fighters are set for a fistic shootout Saturday, Jan. 18, as former world champion Eleider “Storm” Alvarez will face Michael “Cannon Handz” Seals at Turning Stone Resort Casino.
The 10-round showdown will be contested for the vacant WBC Continental Americas title, and the winner is expected to challenge for a world title in 2020.
Alvarez-Seals and a co-feature will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+, the leading multi-sport streaming service, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. Undercard bouts will stream live on ESPN+ starting at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT.
Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Groupe Yvon Michel, tickets priced at $89, $75, $69, $62, $59 and $40 go on sale Friday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. ET and can be purchased at the Turning Stone Resort Box Office, charge by phone by calling 800.771.7711 or online at Ticketmaster.
“This is a fantastic fight, a true 50-50 matchup featuring two of the division’s best punchers,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “The light heavyweight division is on fire right now, and the winner will be in a tremendous position.”
“I am very happy to get back in the ring after this long layoff,” Alvarez said. “I am looking at Jan. 18 to reboot my career against a strong puncher, Michael Seals, and begin my campaign to once again be on top of the boxing world. I have a lot of respect for my opponent, but in 2020, nothing will stop me from becoming a world champion again.”
“First, I would like to thank Top Rank and ESPN for giving Eleider this opportunity, as well as a plan to be very active in 2020,” said Yvon Michel, Alvarez’s co-promoter. “Eleider had a great run before his last fight, beating three former or current world champions in a row: Lucian Bute, Jean Pascal and Sergey Kovalev. The defeat in his rematch with Kovalev was very painful, but also a great learning lesson. Eleider Alvarez belongs with the elite of the light heavyweight division, and he will prove it starting Jan. 18 in Verona.”
“Uncle Bob and Brad Goodman are giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, and I am going to put on a show for them,” Seals said. “Everyone knows that going the distance is against my religion. I’m going to bring the heat, and that’s no secret. Alvarez made a huge mistake in accepting me for his ‘comeback fight.’ When you sign a contract with me, I’m trying to force-feed you some ZzzQuil. This is a tune-up for him but everything for me. I’m not an opponent for the top fighters. I am a top fighter. I want a world title shot, and I won’t let this guy get in the way. He had his time. It’s my time.”
Alvarez (24-1, 12 KOs), the Colombian-born, Montreal-based boxer-puncher has not fought since Feb. 2, when he dropped a unanimous decision to Sergey Kovalev six months after knocking him out to win the WBO light heavyweight world title. Alvarez’s long layoff is due to a torn foot ligament he suffered in training earlier this year. He hopes a win over Seals will earn him another crack at world championship glory.
Seals (24-2, 18 KOs), a Mobile, Alabama, native who played collegiate football at Alabama A&M, is still one of the division’s heaviest hitters at 37 years of age. An 11-year pro, Seals has been involved in many memorable brawls, including a 2015 Fight of the Year contender versus Edwin Rodriguez that included five knockdowns in three rounds. Despite falling short versus Rodriguez, Seals’ reputation as a fan-friendly fighter was solidified. He has won four in a row, including three by knockout in either the first or second round. He is coming off a one-punch, first-round knockout Oct. 18 in Philadelphia against Elio Trosch.

Nikolai Potapov Returns with Impressive TKO over Africa’s Nasibu Ramadhani
WBO #9 and IBF #11 Bantamweight Nikolai Potapov returned to action Thursday night in Moscow with an impressive fifth-round TKO over Tanzanian veteran Nasibu Ramadhani.
Fighting in the 10-round main event of a card presented by Shamo Boxing at the Korston Club Hotel, Potapov (21-2-1, 12 KOs), of Podolsk, Russia, worked past a head-butt induced cut left eye to put his world-class skills on full display. He wobbled the aggressive Ramadhani (29-14-2, 16 KOs) in the second round with a three-punch combination and continued to dominate until the stoppage.
“I am glad to get the work and the win,” said the victorious Potapov. “I would like to come back to the US and get another opportunity to fight for the world title.”
The fight was Potapov’s first since his highly controversial decision loss to fellow contender Joshua Greer last July. Potapov’s promoter, Dmitriy Salita, says the capable Russian is gearing up for another assault on the division’s best.
“I am glad Nikolai got some work in and was able to score an impressive TKO victory. The bantamweight division is heating up and he is up there with the best in the weight class. I look forward to a great 2020 for Nikolai!”

ZOLANI TETE: “INOUE KNOWS HE NEEDS TO SEE ME IF HE WANTS TO BE BANTAMWEIGHT KING.”
ZOLANI TETE HAS thrown down the gauntlet to bantamweight rival Naoya Inoue, who is hot favourite to overcome Nonito Donaire in the final of the World Boxing Super Series this week.
Boxing fans across the world were hoping for a dream Tete-Inoue match-up in the final of the WBSS when the Queensberry Promotions-backed South African joined the strong field of 118-pounders in the eight-man tournament that also included then world champions Ryan Burnett and Emmanuel Rodriguez.
Tete, the WBO king, unfortunately had to withdraw from the competition ahead of the semi-final stage – where he was set to meet Donaire – after defeating Mikhail Aloyan in his quarter-final.
Veteran ring legend Donaire went on to beat the replacement Stephon Young – via a 6th round KO – in the semi-final and booked himself a meeting with the hot ticket of the division in Inoue, who made short work of his passage to the final by beating Juan Carlos Payano in 70 seconds and then Rodriguez courtesy of a 2nd round KO.
If Tete has his way, the fans won’t be denied the tantalising prospect of a showdown between himself and the 18-0 knockout-artist Inoue.
“Inoue knows he needs to see me if he wants to be bantamweight king,” he warned, ahead of his own return to the ring against mandatory challenger John Riel Casimero at Arena, Birmingham on November 30.
It is unfortunate I had to pull out of the tournament but I am now fit and healthy again.
“I have a tough fight against Casimero on November 30 but, God willing I come through, I definitely want to fight Inoue, added the man from Eastern Cape, who tips Inoue to prevail in his collision with the popular Filipino.
“I believe he will beat Donaire but he knows he must beat me before he can call himself the real king.”
WBO world bantamweight champion Zolani Tete defends his title against mandatory challenger John Riel Casimero features on a stacked night of title action at Arena, Birmingham on November 30. British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Chris Jenkins makes a defence against Liam Taylor, Lerrone Richards also takes on Lennox Clarke for the Commonwealth and vacant British super middleweight belt, while East Midlands favourite Sam Bowen makes a second defence of his British super featherweight title against mandatory challenger Anthony Cacace. Sam Maxwell defends his WBO European super lightweight title against the also unbeaten Connor Parker from Derbyshire.
Hamzah Sheeraz will fight for his first major title at super welterweight, with thrilling prospects Dennis McCann, Shabaz Masoud, Eithan James and George Davey also featuring on the bill, along with talents from the local region in Nathan Heaney and River Wilson-Bent.

BUNN RETAINS IBF INTERNATIONAL TITLE AND ALISCH SHINES IN KOBLENZ
Leon Bunn (15-0, 8 KOs) defended his IBF International Light Heavyweight title on Saturday night with a dominant performance over Enrico Kölling (26-4, 8 KOs) that saw him win via unanimous decision at the CGM Arena, Koblenz.
Former World title challenger Kölling showed character and heart throughout the fight as he tried to keep up with the pace set by Bunn. However Bunn pushed the action throughout and won a comfortable decision, with the judges scoring the fight (116-112, 119-109, 116-112) as the 27-year-old from Frankfurt was victorious in his maiden title defence.
“I was comfortable and knew I was winning the fight,” said Bunn. “I was more ambitious and I was much more active. I’ll enjoy this victory and then hopefully even bigger tasks will come.”
Leon Bunn’s satisfaction in his performance and aspirations for a big 2020 were echoed by his promoter Nisse Sauerland.
“That was a great victory for Leon and totally deserved,” said Sauerland. “He dominated the fight against a dangerous challenger who has fought for World titles, and Leon never looked in danger. The year 2020 will be a very exciting one for Leon Bunn!”
Also on the card was 17-year-old Sophie Alisch who put in a superb performance, winning every round against World title challenger Irma Adler on all three judges scorecards in her first eight round fight.
“I feel great after my fifth victory,” said Alisch. “It was great to box over eight rounds today for the first time. I feel like I could have easily done ten, it was so much fun. The fight has definitely helped me take another step forward in my career, I will continue working hard and I’m looking forward to my next task!”
Following an extended time out of the ring with injury, heavyweight prospect Albon Pervizaj (12-1, 9 KOs) suffered his first professional defeat losing via split decision to unbeaten Bosnian Dusan Veletic (4-0-1, 2 KOs).

“I’m happy we got this deal done,” said Haney. “I’m not just a WBC World Champion that’s holding somebody else’s belt. I’m the sole champion, and I will defend the Lightweight World title on November 9. I’ve been working hard and I’m extremely focused. This will be the perfect gift to myself for my 21st birthday.
“All the fans at STAPLES Center and the millions watching on DAZN, are going to witness another dominant performance. I’m going to continue to show the world that I’m the best in my division.
“Alfredo Santiago is my next opponent; he’s undefeated, he’s hungry, and he’s coming to win. I take every fight very serious and this fight is no different. Tune in next Saturday and you’ll see that the hype is real.”
“First and foremost, I would like to thank Matchroom Boxing and Fresh Productions for this opportunity,” said Santiago. “This is the moment that I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid, and the one I’ve been waiting for since I became a boxer. I am physically and mentally ready, and I am going to show who the best 135lber in the world is.
“Mr. Haney is a formidable fighter who chose the wrong opponent. He cannot beat me. I belong to ‘The Terror Squadron’, the best boxing team in the world. This is my time.”
“I am delighted to see Devin defend his World title on November 9,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “We’re going to have a huge crowd of new fight fans at the arena and tuning in all around the world to watch KSI and Logan Paul, and Devin is the perfect fighter to showcase what boxing is all about to a potential crop of new fight fans – he’s young, exciting, confident and relatable – the perfect mix.
“Alfredo Santiago is a hungry young fighter himself and this is a golden opportunity for him to halt Devin’s charge to superstardom – but I believe that ‘The Dream’ will shine and begin his reign as World champion in style.”
Haney’s clash with Santiago is part of a huge night of action in Los Angeles as YouTube sensations KSI and Logan Paul clash in a rematch of their controversial draw – this time as professional fighters.
