RICHARD RIAKPORHE RETURNS TO RING ON SATURDAY NOVEMBER 18th AGAINST DYLAN BREGEON BEFORE TITLE SHOT

LONDON, ENGLAND – (November 7, 2023) – Top cruiserweight contender Richard Riakporhe returns to the ring on Saturday, November 18th as he looks to maintain his unbeaten record and remain on course for a world title challenge as part of the BOXXER: WOLVES AT THE DOOR event taking place at The Halls in Wolverhampton and airing live on Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland and Peacock in the USA.

Standing opposite him on fight night will be former French national cruiserweight champion and two-time EBU European Cruiserweight Championship challenger Dylan Bregeon, who has previously taken WBO World Cruiserweight Champion Chris Billam-Smith and newly crowned British and Commonwealth Champion Isaac Chamberlain the distance on previous visits to the UK.

WBO ranked #1 Riakporhe joins a stacked show in Wolves topped by a European title double-header as young phenom Adam Azim challenges EBU Super-Lightweight Champion Franck Petitjean and Tyler Denny aims to continues his Cinderella story as he challenges EBU Middleweight Champion Matteo Signani.

Rising Welsh star Rhys Edwards is also set for action in a featherweight fight with Walsall’s former British and Commonwealth Champion Brad Foster, while local stars Dylan Cheema, Nyall Berry, Gully Power and Tion Gibbs get their chance to shine on the big stage as BOXXER and Sky Sports return to the Midlands for another unmissable night of boxing.

“A lot has happened since I’ve been away but on November 18th I am back and reminding everyone why I am the number one contender in this division.”  said Riakporhe.

Ben Shalom, BOXXER CEO and founder, said: “It’s been a frustrating few months for us after we did have a world title agreed in France in September. Fortunately, Richard is in a great position and we expect Richard will channel that into his performance on November 18th and come back to the ring with a bang to remind fans – and his fellow cruiserweights – what he’s all about.

“It’s such an exciting time for the cruiserweight division particularly in the UK. We have Chris Billam-Smith defending his World title against Mateusz Masternak in Bournemouth on December 10, Lawrence Okolie preparing for his shot at redemption, and Richard Riakporhe as the WBO’s number one contender waiting for the mandatory to be called. 2024 is going to be an incredible year for the cruiserweights as we look forward to some massive fights between these three men.”

Riakporhe’s undefeated professional career includes tenure as British and WBA Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Champion as well as a win over current WBO World Cruiserweight Champion Chris Billam-Smith, the only loss on Billam-Smith’s record.

Khiary Gray’s comeback fight against veteran Jimmy Williams

QUINCY, Mass. (November 6, 2023) – Worcester (MA) super welterweight Khiary “Too Sharp” Gray (17-6, 13 KOs) will fight for the first time in two years in his comeback bid against New Haven (CT) veteran and divisional gatekeeper Jimmy “The Quiet Storm” Williams (18-13-2, 6 KOs) in a six-round bout on the December 9th “Pandemonium at the Palladium 2”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP), at the famed Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts.

All the action will be streamed live on BXNGTV.com. GCP has partnered with Project New Hope, a Worcester-based charity that supports veterans and their families.

“This is going to be a tremendous fight that has been in the makings for a few years,” GCP president Chris Traietti proclaimed. “I remember grumblings about this fight happening, but it never materialized. Once I connected the dots that Khiary wanted to fight on this show and Williams didn’t have anything scheduled, I immediately went to work to try and make this fight finally happen. It didn’t take much convincing on either side, both guys jumped on it and worked with me to make it happen.”

A 2012 New England Golden Gloves Champion, Gray is anxious to get back in the ring and he’s not necessarily concerned about being rusty after being inactive for two years.

“It definitely feels right and great to get back to fighting,” Gray said. “I’m preparing to put on a show to let Worcester and everyone in the boxing world that I’m back and coming to get back where I’m supposed to be, top contender. I’m looking at this fight and every fight from now on as critical in terms of me needing and wanting to win at this stage of my career.

“I’m avoiding being rusty by staying active in sparring in training camp, but I like to say that I’m like gold because gold doesn’t rust. All I need is some polishing up. It seems right to have my comeback fight in my hometown. I’ve only fought in Worcester once. I am comfortable fighting at home. It doesn’t stress or bother me, it just pushes me to show my city that I’m not done, I still have a lot left in this fight game. I know I can hold my own in my division. I am and will show it with this comeback fight. I will show that I’m coming to break down the doors and in 2024, I want to make a huge mark in the 154-pound division.”

Gray certainly could have picked an easier opponent than Williams, a former college cornerback on Southern Connecticut State University’s football team, as well as the former holder of three titles – World Boxing Council (WBC) USA welterweight, as well as the ABF USA and UBO International super welterweight.

“I am a gatekeeper,” Williams explained. I got in this game late but had success, winning three titles. Now, I’m fighting guys who have to get past me to get to a champion. Eight or nine years ago there was talk about me and him (Gray) fighting. He was dropping down to welterweight, but I knew local fights would always be there, and I wanted bigger fights. We’re going to get it on now. He’s coming back and I test people.”

Williams is more than capable of pulling off an upset. Only two years ago, Jimmy defeated former world champion Yuri Foreman to capture the ABF USA and UBO International titles.

This isn’t Gray’s first comeback, either. He’s officially at the crossroads and he needs to defeat Williams to make a long final run.

“I’d tell him (Williams), don’t let the layoff fool you. I could have picked anyone less risky for my comeback fight, but at the end of the day, that’s not me. I take risks to get where I want to be. I had a 3 ½ year layoff during COVID. My first fight back, I fought Bakhram Murtazaliev, who was 18-0 at the time. He was and still is Jermell Charlo’s mandatory for the IBF World title. I lost to Murtazaliev (currently 21-0, 15 KOs) by decision, but I wasn’t hurt and stayed in there.

“From the first bell to the last, I’m not scared of taking risks. I was smiling ear to ear when asked to fight him. I had wanted to fight him (Williams) since 2017 after my fight with Nick DeLomba. In all honesty, I thought it was all hype. No disrespect, he can fight. I give him that but at the end of the day, he’s just a tough journeyman, I know I can beat him in dramatic fashion. I expect Jimmy to come out and fight. We are going to put in a show for my city.”

Gray vs. Williams could steal the show.  Another hometown fighter, light heavyweight Kendrick “Peppa” Bell, Jr. (21-1-3, 12 KOs), and International Boxing Association (IBA) Americas Super Middleweight Champion Steve “The Savage” Sumpter (9-0, 7 KOs), of Pittsfield (MA), are also fighting on the card in separate matches.

Card subject to change. Additional fights and fighters will soon be announced.

Tickets are on sale and available for purchase online at www.ThePalladium.net.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. ET, first bout at 7 p.m. ET.

SCHWARZKOPF SENDS OMINOUS WARNING TO HARLEM EUBANK AHEAD OF CHANNEL 5 CLASH

The battle-hardened Timo Schwarzkopf is determined to defy the odds and ruin Harlem Eubank’s huge homecoming in Brighton on Friday night, live and free-to-air on Channel 5.

Eubank and Schwarzkopf headline a packed Wasserman Boxing show in the iconic resort this week, with world class super middleweight Lerrone Richards back in action, as well as rising heavyweight Roman Fury.

Dangerous Kazak Sultan Zaurbek continues to hunt a world title shot, there is the debut of international amateur star Tom Welland, and local hero Tommy Welch, the son of heavyweight favourite Scott, returns to the ring – plus many more fights.

Delivered in association with Ladbrokes, Numan and Infinitum Entertainment‘Bloodline’ promises to be an emotionally-charged evening set against the backdrop of an electric atmosphere, as Brighton turns out to support Harlem Eubank – the first of his famous family to headline in their hometown since Chris Eubank Senior in the early 1990s.

But Schwarzkopf, a grizzled 27-fight veteran who already has a big-name British scalp on his record, is ready to spoil the party.

And the 6/1 underdog with Ladbrokes, has issued a chilling warning to Eubank ahead of his arrival into Brighton tomorrow.

“Eubank doesn’t scare me,” Schwarzkopf said.

“Harlem, I am coming for you.”

MAKE A KNOCKOUT BET WITH LADBROKES
Eubank to win 1/10
Schwarzkopf to win 6/1
Draw 20/1

The super lightweight rivals clash for the WBO Global belt and will come face-to-face at Wednesday afternoon’s press conference, ahead of a night which also has the backing of big-fight sponsors Rockwater and Drip.

Schwarzkopf was buoyed after the pair first went head-to-head last month and, as he prepares to return to Brighton, the 32-year-old is more confident than ever.

“I am thankful for this chance to prove myself and to show what I can do,” he added.

“I am better than all of his previous opponents and I have fought better opponents in my career.  My last fight was against Miquel Vasquez, who is very strong.  Harlem’s last opponent was not very good.”

GBM Sports Announces Multi-Fight Agreement With talkSPORT Boxing To Live Stream Events

London, England, Friday 3rd November 2023: GBM Sports, the new promotional force in boxing, and national broadcaster talkSPORT today announced a multi-fight agreement that will see talkSPORT’s boxing YouTube channel live stream GBM Sports’ Championship boxing events.

The first event will be broadcast in early 2024 starting in Sheffield, followed by further regular shows in key cities around the country where GBM Sports will be breaking new ground.

GBM Sports has seen a remarkable pace of growth since its inception in 2022 with its debut event at the Magna Centre in Rotherham. Five further sold-out shows followed and each has been highly acclaimed for its innovative in-arena production, top quality fights and dynamic atmosphere.

The last show in early October was the inaugural event to be held at the stunning brand new Canon Medical Arena – the new home of the Sheffield Sharks and Hatters basketball teams – and was GBM Sports’ biggest and most impressive event yet.

talkSPORT partnered with GBM Sports for the event and live-streamed an exciting night of action that saw Emma Dolan defend her Commonwealth Super-Flyweight title against Nicola Hopewell in a pulsating fight, plus GBM Sports’ roster of top prospects including Nohman Hussain, Naphtali Nembhard, Faraqat Ali and Joe Hayden all record wins.

New star signing, six-time National Champion, MyKyle Ahmed, jointly-managed with former Two-Time World Champion Billy Joe Saunders, was also announced on the night and will soon make his long awaited pro-debut on a GBM Sports show.

Following a hugely successful night and building upon that initial broadcast partnership, GBM Sports and talkSPORT have taken it a step further to consolidate a longer term deal.

Izzy Asif, CEO of GBM Sports, says, “I’m absolutely thrilled to agree this deal with talkSPORT for our events to be live streamed on its boxing YouTube channel. talkSPORT is the world’s largest sports radio network and the coverage and content dedicated to boxing on digital, social and online is immense, so our boxers will benefit massively from this. For GBM Sports, this is a landmark moment for the brand, team, and boxers, and we can’t wait to get going on the first event. We’ve got some really great events, fights and ideas that will take GBM Sports to the next level.”

Jamie Sanderson, Director of Video and Social Media at talkSPORT, comments: “This a landmark deal for talkSPORT, demonstrating we’re more than just a radio station; we’re truly a sports network, with live sport broadcast across our channels. Our boxing YouTube channel is innovating the way the sport is covered digitally. We’ve had a month of unprecedented growth in October, with die-hard sports fans knowing exactly where to come for a slice of the action. Through this partnership with GBM sports, we’re proving we really are the home of boxing.”

OHARA “TWO TANKS” DAVIES TO MAKE U.S. DEBUT AS A GOLDEN BOY FIGHTER IN WBA SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT INTERIM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT AGAINST VENEZUELA’S RUGGED ISMAEL BARROSO

HOUSTON, TEXAS (November 3, 2023) – In an action packed co-main event, the U.K.’s Ohara “Two Tanks” Davies (25-2, 18 KOs) of London will make his highly anticipated debut in the U.S. under the Golden Boy Promotions’ banner against El Tigre, Venezuela’s Ismael Barroso (24-4-2, 22 KOs). Scheduled as chief-support for Garcia vs. Duarte taking place at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, the two pugilists will battle it out in a 12-round fight for the WBA Super Lightweight Interim World Championship. The fight is presented in association with TGB Promotions and will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN as part of your subscription.“Absolutely over the moon to get this fight confirmed, it’s gonna be a tough fight because Barroso should be the real WBA World Champion already as he was smoking Rolly Romero, but excited to get the fight we were meant to get three years ago in Dubai,” said Ohara Davies. “On December 2 I’m coming to knock Ismael Barroso out and become Interim World Champion. Massive thank you to the Golden Boy team, Oscar, Eric and my manager Lee Eaton for all their hard work. It’s time to rock and roll!”Since becoming a professional in 2014, Ohara Davies has steadily risen through the ranks of the division. Currently ranked as the No. 1 super lightweight by the WBA, he earned his golden ticket to a world title fight with a spectacular ninth-round stoppage against the former British lightweight champion Lewis Ritson in a WBA eliminator fight this past March. Since then, he has eagerly been waiting for his shot for a world championship. Davies has been on a five-year winning streak, his only blemishes being against world-class opponents, including former undisputed Champion Josh Taylor in 2017 and a narrow unanimous decision loss against Jack Catterall in 2018.”I’m very excited to have another opportunity to show that I’m at the world championship level,” said Ismael Barroso. “I proved it in my last fight, and this time I’m going to make sure there’s no doubt whatsoever. My team has stuck by me through everything and it has motivated me to get back into the ring and make all our hard work pay off. When fight night comes, I’ll be ready to have my hand raised and leave the ring with the title.”With a career spanning nearly 20-years, savvy southpaw Ismael Barroso held the WBA interim lightweight title from 2015 to 2016. Barroso was last seen in the ring against Rolando “Rolly” Romero for the WBA Super Lightweight Title, which resulted in a controversial, early stoppage in Romero’s favor. He will be fighting for a title that many fans and media critics alike believe should belong to him. Barroso is currently ranked No.3 by the WBA.”Ohara Davies is a monster in the ring who is deserving of a World Championship opportunity,” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. “This is his first fight in the United States with Golden Boy directing his career path, and I am very confident that he will accomplish his mission to end the fight with the Championship Belt around his waist and his hand raised in victory.”“Ismael Barroso proved in his last fight that he belongs with all of the top 140 pounders in the world,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “He put on a great performance on short notice last time out and I’m sure that he’ll be highly motivated to finish the fight this time.”More information on the undercard will be announced in the coming weeks.

“I’m not going to deviate from what I’ve been doing, as it’s got me to this point, but there are still gears for me to go through.

“Channel 5 is my platform now and this is my chance to show my skills and bring big fights to a huge audience on free-to-air TV.”

The 2023 Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony returns to Mohegan Sun

UNCASVILLE, CT – The 17th annual Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame induction dinner and ceremony takes place on Saturday, November 18th at Mohegan Sun’s Uncas Ballroom.

The ceremony recognizes the key achievements and significant contributions of Connecticut natives to the “Sweet Science”.  The 2023 inductees include accomplished pugilists Matt Remillard, Tony Grano, Tarvis Simms, and Shelly Vincent, noted journalist Mark Allen Baker and Banner Promotions CEO and founder, Arthur “Artie” Pelullo.

Tickets are priced at $115 plus applicable fees and can be purchased at Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
2023 CBHOF HALL OF FAME INDUCTEE BIOS:

TONY GRANO:  A graduate of RHAM High in Hebron, Grano exceeded expectations when he launched his pro career in 2005 as a heavyweight prospect. The Hartford native raced to a 15-1-1 start before being matched against the highly regarded Travis Kauffman, who was 18-0 and heavily favored to defeat Grano. In a bout televised worldwide on HBO, Grano scored a stunning fourth round stoppage. The fight was named the 2009 Heavyweight Fight of the Year by Ringside Magazine. Victories over Brian Minto and DaVarryl Williamson earned Grano the NABF heavyweight title in 2012. Known as the “Hebron Hammer,” Grano finished his career at the age of 42 with a record of 20-3-1 with 16 knockouts.

MATT REMILLARD: A two-time Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame Pro Fighter of the Year, “Sharp Shooter” was also a two-time Everlast Under-19 National Amateur champion.  Under the tutelage of another CBHOF member, Paul Cichon, the Manchester native blew through his early competition, compiling a record of 23-0 with 13 knockouts while picking up the NABF and NABO featherweight titles along the way.  This set up an HBO-televised battle of undefeated contenders against a then 24-0 Mikey Garcia that is increasingly rare in boxing.  After a close first few rounds, Remillard was ultimately stopped in round ten in a gutsy performance.  It turned out to be the only loss of Remillard’s career, as he won his last four fights and finished with a pro record of 27-1 with 15 knockouts.

TARVIS SIMMS:  A Norwalk native from a fighting family, Simms and his twin brother Travis were middleweight terrors in the early 2000s.  Nicknamed after middleweight great Marvin Hagler, “Marvelous” Tarvis Simms finished his pro career with a superlative 27-1-1 record after a successful amateur career.  Simms went on a terrific run as a pro, notching notable victories over former world title challenger Carlos Bojorquez and former WBA Super Welterweight champion Carl Daniels before capturing the WBF All-American middleweight title in 2008 against Delray Raines in Bridgeport.  The win set him up for an NABO super middleweight title shot against the 28-1 Allan Green. Simms was game, but Green won a hard-fought decision over ten rounds. It was the only loss of Simms’ pro career.

SHELLEY VINCENT:  A native of New London, “Shelito’s Way” made Providence her boxing base for what turned out to be a spectacular career in the featherweight division.  Vincent began her pro career in 2011, and it took her only three years to earn a title shot.  Shelley made the most of it, winning a majority decision over Jackie Trivilino to capture the Universal Boxing Federation world super bantamweight championship in 2014.  A few months later, Vincent added the IBA super bantamweight crown against Christina Ruiz. Known for her crowd-pleasing style, Vincent lost a close majority decision to a 17-0 Heather Hardy in a WBC International featherweight title bout in 2016.  The pair would meet again with a vacant title on the line at Madison Square Garden two years later.  This time, a 21-0 Hardy won a unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBO featherweight title.  Those were the only losses in Vincent’s pro career, which ended with a 27-2 record.

MARK ALLEN BAKER: One of the most accomplished boxing journalists in the world, Baker devoted much of his life to chronicling many notable moments in the sport of boxing. His published works range from “Willie Pep, a Biography of the 20th Century’s Greatest Featherweight,’’ to “The World Colored Heavyweight Championship, 1876-1937.’’ Baker’s book “Connecticut Boxing, The Fights, The Fighters, and the Fight game” was No. 1 on Amazon’s list of hot new releases in 2021.  An author of over 25 books about American culture, history, and sports, Baker splits his time between New England and Florida, and is currently a member of the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame.

ARTHUR PELULLO:  Pelullo began Banner Promotions in 1988, and unlike many promotional firms that put on a few shows and are never heard from again, Banner Promotions promoted more than 200 shows over the past 35 years.  Many of those memorable cards took place in Connecticut and were televised globally on a variety of networks, including FOX, HBO and Showtime.  A Philadelphia native and member of the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame, Pelullo’s list of world champions include such notables as Ricky Hatton, Diego Corrales, and Acelino Freitas.

CORDINA VS. VAZQUEZ + UNDERCARD PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“Welcome to Monaco and it feels so good to be back with our friends at SBM and Casino de Monte Carlo ahead of a huge night of World championship boxing, a double-header of World championship action live from Monaco on DAZN around the world.

“It’s been four years since we graced this venue, a unique environment for boxing.

“The main event, in my opinion, the best 130-pounder in the world, Joe Cordina will defend his IBF title against Edward Vazquez, a tough fight for Joe as he looks to unify the division in 2024 and Sivenathi Nontshinga defends his IBF strap against Adrian Curiel Dominguez in our other World title bout and he’s one of the most exciting fighters in the world after a couple of incredible fights, one in his native South Africa and a fight of the year contender in Mexico.

“We believe Souleymane Cissokho is France’s next World champion and he’s in a good fight with Isaias Lucero, and for me, one of the fights of the night, Ramla Ali will attempt to overcome the defeat she suffered to Julissa Guzman in a fantastic female fight on the card.”

Joe Cordina:

“It’s been four years since I boxed here last and it’s a special place that has a special place in my heart.

“He’s a good fighter, I’ve never once disrespected him. I’m taking this very seriously, don’t worry about that. I saw in an interview that I am taking him lightly, trust me, I’ve never taken a journeyman lightly never mind a world title fight. This is a fight that can potentially set up my future and my kids’ future. I’ve got three kids to look after so every time it gets tough, I think of my kids. Without me winning on Saturday, those big fights aren’t going to be there for me, so I’ll do everything possible to get the win.

“He’s going to bring it because it’s a big opportunity for him. He’s a good fighter, I watched the fight against Ford, and I thought he should have had it, so he’s going to bring the heat but I am ready to match it.

“People said I didn’t have power, I knocked out Ogawa. Then they said I can only look pretty, and I showed I can dig down against Rakhimov. If you come into the gym and see how I train and spar, I do that on the daily, but the Rakhimov fight is the only one that I’ve had to get out of first gear. So, me saying you have to be special to beat me, it’s not being cocky, I believe in my ability. I’ve done it time after time as a pro and all through my 180 amateur fights, I’ve beaten some great, great fighters that have won Olympic and World medals. It’s not a fluke, I am the real deal.

“I’m hoping Michael will give me a few more tickets to get my fans in! I told them not to book until I found out the deal with the tickets, but they booked anyway. They have come over anyway and they’ll be in the Irish bar waiting for me to get out, but first and foremost I’ve got to get the job done on Saturday. I know he’s going to put it all on the line, and I am ready to do the same too.”

Edward Vazquez:

“I’m thankful to Matchroom and Lou DiBella for this opportunity, I feel like everyone has their time and this is my time. I’m here for a reason, I’m blessed to be here, and I am prepared. If you have looked at my career, I’ve been the challenger every time and I’ve come out on top, except from that bullshit call, you know what I am talking about (split decision loss to Raymond Ford, February 2022). I’m here to pull the upset and ready to handover a Texas ass-whooping and do what we do.

“I hope he is overlooking me. I don’t care how he is looking at it, I just want him to be 100 per cent ready, I don’t want to hear any excuses. Every time I beat these guys that I am supposed to lose to, there’s always some bullshit excuse that comes out, like training camp was bad, my coach was bad, weigh-cut was bad, something like that. I don’t want to hear any of that; I’m 100 per cent ready, we had all the time to get ready for the fight so come Saturday night, we’ll see who the best man is.

“I just have to do me, listen to my coach and my team and stick to the game plan. He’s got a lot of great attributes, but he’s never been in there with someone like me and he’s going to find out.”

Sivenathi Nontshinga:

“Thank you for granting me this opportunity to fight here, I’m looking forward to the fight, I’ve been working hard with my team, and I am glad to be here. I believe it takes a special person to achieve such greatness.

“I am going to get inside the ring and do what I know, nothing more, nothing less. I expect a good clean fight, I am used to big stages now and the ability I have to get inside the ring and do the job, it makes me a special person and I want to give the people of Monaco a great fight like I did in Mexico.”

Adrian Curiel Dominguez:

“I am completely committed to getting this victory and taking the belt home to Mexico. I saw the Rocky Hernandez fight and I think it shows the hunger that we’ve got, I need to almost die to win this belt and he needs to be prepared to do the same if he wants to get the victory, but it will be me that gets it.”

Souleymane Cissokho

“I feel like I am at home fighting in Monaco, we’ve had a very good camp, working very hard and I can’t wait to get back in the ring on Saturday night.

“We are looking for those big title fights, so Isaias is a good fight for me, we know that Mexican fighters are very tough, so I can’t wait to share the ring with him and then move forward for World titles.”

Isaias Lucero:

“There’s lots of hunger to get the win. I’m really enjoying this experience so I want to go through and get the victory. I understand that it will be difficult because I am facing someone with great amateur pedigree, but I want to do my best.”

Julissa Guzman:

“It’s great to have another opportunity for a big fight but it’s different this time as I am defending what is mine. I am no longer the challenger, and this is going to make it even more difficult for Ramla, as I know you are going to run, and I am ready to fly at you in the ring. I am going to make good on my promise to knock you out.

“I have to come through Saturday but as I have said before, the decision to take this rematch will go in my favour and after this fight, I want to face the best in the division because I want to be the best.”

Ramla Ali:

“It is a huge fight for me. A lot of people are saying to me ‘why are you jumping straight into this rematch?’ I was speaking to Steve Bunce earlier who was giving me props for it, but with me, my whole life has been riddled with challenges, as everyone knows my backstory has been talked about. I’ve had challenges in my personal life and my sporting life, and you have to accept those challenges. I was telling Steve; I was watching a Baseball movie and there was a quote that said ‘never let the fear of striking out keep you from plating the game’. So, you can never let fear keep you from doing what you want to do and from achieving your dreams and goals.

“All fights I have had in my opinion have been tough. I have trained equally as hard for my pro debut as I did for this camp. So, I consider every person in front of me as a challenge. I always try to stay disciplined; I like to get involved and have a bit of a tear-up, who doesn’t? Why do we box in the first place? But it is about staying disciplined, sticking to the game plan, listening to Manny Robles as I’ve probably given him more grey hairs in this camp than I have ever done. I know from that; it will be a great day on Saturday.”

Michael Wittstock:

“To put on an event like this in a venue like this is not easy, and I want to thank the casino for everything they do for us. They have done us proud. In 2013, Prince Albert gave us his blessing and backing to start boxing here, and it was triple G, Gennadiy Golovkin that kickstarted his career here then, came back to fight Martin Murray in a World title fight and then went to America to become a legend and a household name. Gennadiy is in constant contact with me, and his heart is deeply involved in Monaco, he loves the place.

“Eddie comes from a family that has been in boxing for many years with his father Barry, and what I like about Matchroom is they have a young team and are the biggest and best promoters in the world.

“Monaco has one thing that it’s really good at and that’s building bridges between other nations and other people. I think that boxing has latched onto that and looking at the bill this weekend, you will see part of that. We’ve come a long way with boxing in Monaco, we’ve had a lot of support from people that have helped us. Eddie, thank you and Frank Smith for all you have done, it’s a privilege to deal with guys and on behalf of Prince Albert, I wish all the boxers the best of luck and to enjoy your time here.”

Press Conference Notes: Heavyweights Efe Ajagba and Joe Goodall Ready to Lock Horns in Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE, Nevada (Nov. 2, 2023) — Nigerian contender Efe Ajagba (18-1, 13 KOs) is set to face upset-minded Australian Joe Goodall (10-1-1, 9 KOs) in a 10-round heavyweight attraction this Saturday, Nov. 4 at Tahoe Blue Event Center in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

Ajagba and Goodall fought as amateurs, with Goodall earning a decision in the semifinals of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Nearly 10 years later, the two are ready to settle the score in a fight that could propel the winner towards an eventual title opportunity.

In the 10-round lightweight co-feature, Raymond “Danger” Muratalla (18-0, 15 KOs) takes on unbeaten Mexican banger Diego Torres (18-0, 17 KOs).

Ajagba-Goodall and Muratalla-Torres headline a loaded bill streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ beginning at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.

The ESPN+-streamed action includes the Top Rank debut of heavyweight Brandon Moore (12-0, 8 KOs), who takes on Robert Simms (12-3-1, 3 KOs) in an eight-round fight, as well as a junior lightweight showdown between unbeaten standouts Henry Lebron (18-0, 10 KOs) and William Foster III (16-0, 10 KOs)

The undercard will also feature an all-Mexico junior welterweight showdown between rising unbeaten contender Lindolfo Delgado (18-0, 13 KOs) and Luis Hernandez (23-3, 20 KOs) and a home region appearance by Carson city-born lightweight Christian Avalos (0-1-2), who faces Estevan Partida (1-1-1) in a four-rounder.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with DiBella Entertainment, tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.com.

At Thursday’s press conference, this is what the fighters had to say.

Efe Ajagba

“The ‘Silent Roller’ is my nickname, so I’m going to come out as a beast in the fight. I’m silent outside, but in the ring, I’m a different guy.”

“This fight means a lot to me. For me, this fight is going to get me closer to a world title fight. So, after this fight, we’ll see where we go from there.”

“We sparred each other a long time ago. And I lost to him in the Commonwealth Games in 2014. So, that’s the guy I lost to. This fight will be a rematch for me. This fight means a lot to me because of that loss.”

“I’m going to come as beast in the ring. I’m going to come with everything, the training, the sparring, everything I did. I’ve been knocking people out in sparring. I’m going to put all of that in the fight.”

Joe Goodall

“This is a big clash Saturday night. Efe Ajagba is a tough fighter. I believe I’m up there with the top fighters in the world. It’s no secret that with the WBC Silver title on the line, the winner may get a world title shot. Being the winner of this means everything to me.”

“Without giving away too much, his only loss was to Frank Sanchez. I watched that fight. Frank’s movement was pretty good in that fight. I don’t want to say that I’ll copy him, but there are some things in that fight that I can implement. But once again, we’ve sparred before. We know each other well. So, it’s about executing the plan on fight night.”

Raymond Muratalla

“It’s a huge opportunity for me. Come Saturday night, I’m going to show out again, and it’s going to get me close to that title shot that I’ve been wanting.”

“It’s going to be another great performance. Every fight I’m learning and learning and working on my craft. Come Saturday night, it’s going to be another hell of a show, and it’s going to be a great night for me.”

“Hopefully, this gets me to a title fight. That’s what I want. That’s what I’ve been wanting. Hopefully, a victory on Saturday night gets me closer and closer.”

Diego Torres

“I feel very happy. I’m very motivated because this is my first fight on a card like this as a co-main event fighter. I’m very excited, and I’m very eager to step into the ring.”

“I want people to get to know Diego ‘Azabache’ Torres. This is my coming out party. I came to do an excellent job. We had a very good camp, and I’m very ready for the fight.”

“I took this fight because I know that Raymond is a very good fighter. I like challenges, and I want a career that people will remember. I’m a courageous person, and I’m ready. I like challenges. And to be a world champion, I have to face the best, and Raymond is one of the best. So, he is in my path to a world title shot.”

Brandon Moore

“This is exciting because I’m with Top Rank now. It feels like I’m in the NBA right now. I get to walk around, and people ask me who I am. For the first time, I got to meet all the people behind the scenes. It’s really fun.”

“In 12 or 24 months, I want to be fighting the big fights. Top Rank has all the heavyweights. There are heavyweights on this card. So, I’ve got these next 12 or 24 months, and I see myself fighting for a world title. I’m going to be winning a world title, honestly.”

Christian Avalos

“I feel great. This is surreal for me. It’s really exciting. This is my fourth pro bout, and I’ve been wanting to fight in my hometown in front of my friends, family and supporters. It’s just up the road, so it’s nothing new to me. It’s just another day.”

FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES FOR DON KING PROMOTIONS’ “ONLY IN AMERICA 92 CELEBRATION” WEDNESDAY, NOV. 1, AT THE EMBASSY SUITES BY HILTON IN MIAMI, FLORIDA

Ahead of Saturday’s monumental event, the world’s greatest promoter Don King addressed assembled media along with the boxers from the highly anticipated main card.

The “Only in America 92 Celebration” card will have three co-feature title fights headlined by the 12-round battle for the WBC Cruiserweight vacant title as the number one ranked fighter, Noel Mikaelian (26-2, 11 KOs) of Miami, FL via Armenia taking on the number two ranked fighter and former champion Ilunga Makabu (29-3, 25 KOs) from Johannesburg, South Africa via the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Makabu, who lost his title to Badou Jack as he was stopped in the 12th round, is hoping to regain his belt after Badou Jack relinquished the title.

The other tri-feature bout will spotlight two heavyweight champions putting their respective belts on the line. The NABA Gold Heavyweight Champion Jonathan Guidry (19-1-2, 11 KOs) of Dulac, LA will tangle with the undefeated FECARBOX Heavyweight Champion Jesus Escalera (19-0, 19 KOs) of Riverview, FL via Puerto Rico.

The WBA Continental North America Heavyweight Championship will feature the former WBA champion Trevor Bryan (22-1, 15 KOs) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL via New York taking on challenger Cassius Chaney (22-1, 15 KOs) of New London, CT.

Tickets, priced from $50, are on sale and can be purchased at www.playcasinomiami.com for the Nov. 4th and the Dec. 2nd cards.  Ringside tables are $3000. next level tables $2500, ringside seats $750 and side seats are $200 and $100. General Admission tickets at $50.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the action will begin at 7 p.m.

Don King:

“I’m very thankful to be here because we are taking boxing back to the people. It’s going to be a November and December to remember, and we are kicking it off with this great card we have this Saturday.”

“The best man wins, and everyone who is fighting must be fighting for themselves. That is what we are dealing with here on this celebration of a night. The best of the best.”

On Makabu, who’s not in attendance today due to Visa issues but expected to arrive tomorrow – “More rumors than Al Capone.”

“Jonathan Guidry being the champion that he is will be taking on Puerto Rico’s Jesus Escalera. Escalera is the man of the people, and this will be a great title match between two of the best heavyweights in the world. Anything can happen on this card; these guys will just go in there and fight as soon as that bell rings.”

“Another title fight will be one that includes quite bit of controversy. Trevor Bryan will be attempting to recapture his once held (WBA Heavyweight) title by going out there and winning. He will be taking on a young man in Cassius Chaney. This man’s name made me very interested as he shares the name with the man that brought me into the sport, Cassius Clay. Cassius Clay was a brave man who went to prison because he did not go to battle in a war he did not believe in. I have never seen Chaney fight, but his record speaks for itself, and he will be taking on The Dream, and someone will have a nightmare.”

Noel Mikaelian vs. Ilunga Makabu

WBC Cruiserweight Championship

Noel Mikaelian:

“First of all, thank you for the attendance and thank you Don for the words. I am ready to fight for the most prestigious title this Saturday. Tune in at FiteTV.com and DonKing.com. Thank you, Don, for putting together another great show. The best promoter in the world. Only in America!”

“I wanted to fight Makabu for a longtime, he’s a great southpaw but my fight IQ allows me to adapt to anyone in the ring.”

On Makabu’s absence “I don’t care that he is not here (today). If he is not in the ring on Saturday, then I will be very disappointed.”

Jonathan Guidry vs. Jesus Escalera

WBC FECARBOX & NABA Gold Heavyweight Championship

Jonathan Guidry:

“I am really honored to be on another Don King show. I do not have much to say but I am very prepared for this fight, and I believe we will have the best fight of the night. Sparks will fly.”

Jesus Escalera:

“Thank you very much to Don King and team Guidry for giving me this shot. A lot of fighters turned me down, but he is a true champion and stepped up and it is a complete honor. My uncle fought in in the same venue (Casino Miami Jai-Alai) 40 years ago for Don King. To fight in same venue as my uncle is an honor. I plan to make my home country of Puerto Rico proud. This will be the best fight of the night and Saturday will answer a lot of questions people have about us.”

?

*Escalera’s uncle is former WBC Super Featherweight World Champion and 2023 Florida Boxing Hall of Fame inductee Alfredo Escalera. He successfully defended his title 10 times before losing to future International Boxing Hall of Famer Alexis Arguello in 1978.

“Guidry’s IQ in boxing is high. I think he said his gameplan is to take me to the later rounds and drown me. That’s a great gameplan. There’s a reason I haven’t been outside of the fourth round. But if he comes forward, we will see what happens. This is the heavyweight division; it only takes one punch. He’s a true fighting champion who stays active so I will be prepared.”

“Don King is keeping the sport of boxing alive, and I will put on a great performance come Saturday night.”

Trevor Bryan vs. Cassius Chaney

WBA Continental North America Heavyweight Championship

Trevor Bryan:

“I am happy to be back on the stage with Don King. This is going to be a great show. Everyone is claiming to have the best fight but myself and Cassius Chaney have a lot to prove so I believe we will take that title. I am a former champion, so I have a lot to still prove. Nothing against Chaney but I need to go in there and take care of business.”

Cassius Chaney:

“I’m excited and mad at the same time. I want to say thank God for allowing be in this position. Thank you to Don for giving me the opportunity to be on this card. I am looking forward to this. Thank you for Trevor’s team for accepting this fight because I’ve been training constantly. My team and I have been patient and working hard and I am now in a good space. I’m looking forward to Saturday to put on a great show.”

JOSH KELLY RETURNS HOME TO FACE ROARKE KNAPP IN SUNDERLAND, LIVE ON DAZN

Josh Kelly fights in front of his home fans for the first time as a professional when he faces Roarke Knapp in Sunderland on December 16.

Shown live exclusively on DAZN worldwide, Kelly headlines the Wasserman Boxing show against the power-punching South African at the Beacon of Light, with both men daring to put their world title ambitions on the line.

Kelly has boxed all over the world but will walk to the ring in his hometown for the first time since 2012, when he was a rising amateur, on the path towards international titles and Olympic qualification.

‘Pretty Boy’ is now one of the world’s leading contenders in the super welterweight division and his return home, which is set in the shadow of the famous Stadium of Light, promises to be an emotionally charged evening.

But Johannesburg’s Knapp also has strong ties to the city and says, like Kelly, he is a lifelong supporter of Sunderland AFC, thanks to his father and grandparents who were born in the city.

Josh Kelly said: “I’m so excited to be boxing back home, in Sunderland, for the first time as a professional.

I can’t wait to put on a show and get dancing under those lights on December 16th, with the support of my city behind me.”

Roarke Knapp said: “This is my time to step it up, I belong with the best in the world and so what better way to cement my legacy and introduce myself to the world, than in the UK.

“Kelly is a sublime talent, we’ve both got brilliant styles and it’s going to be great to mix it up and see who the better man on the night is.

“I spent my formative years in the UK, I still have family there and my Dad was born and bred in the Sunderland, so the blood that flows through these veins is also from Sunderland and I am a Sunderland fan through and through.”

Kalle Sauerland, Global Head of Boxing at Wasserman Boxing, said: “December 16 is the most important night of Josh Kelly’s career and so making sure he has the backing of his home fans, was vital.

“I was stunned to learn that he’s not boxed in the great sporting city of Sunderland since he was an amateur, 11 years ago, so for everyone involved this is going to be a special homecoming.

“Josh is one of British boxing’s most gifted fighters and now that he is entering his prime, he is ready for all-comers.  Knapp is the type of big-punching fighter that a lot of Josh’s rivals would have avoided like the plague, but not our man.  To prove he is the best in the division, he’s prepared to take on anyone.”

“Another great fight to add to our best-in-class autumn schedule” said Alfie Sharman VP, DAZN.

“Josh Kelly has all the tools to become a World Champion and on the 16th December, he takes a step closer to fulfilling that potential. Watch it live and exclusive, only on DAZN.”

Kelly, 29, is enjoying one of British boxing’s most compelling comeback stories of recent times and knows he will stand on the brink of a world title shot if he can defuse the power of Knapp, who has brutally stopped 12 of his opponents.

The former Great Britain amateur, who toyed with the previously unbeaten Gabriel Corzo live on DAZN in July, is ranked as the No1 contender by the WBO, and also holds lofty positions with the IBF and WBC.

Knapp, whose record stands at 17-1-1, has built his reputation in South Africa but is now ready to travel overseas to pursue his own world title ambitions.

And on December 16, at the Beacon of Light and live on DAZN, they meet to determine which one takes a giant stride towards the top.

“I am so proud that Broadway Boxing has now reached its 20th anniversary year. From local club fighters making their pro debut to world champions defending their crown, this series has featured boxers at all levels of the sport, creating so many memories,” said International Boxing Hall-of-Famer, Lou DiBella. “What started out as a local club show for the New York metropolitan area has grown into an international brand. Branching outside of the United States, we’ve broadcast events from locales such as Germany, Monte Carlo, Canada, and Costa Rica. On November 7, DAZN will air the 120th edition of Broadway Boxing from the heart of New York City, in Times Square, to a global audience.”

Broadway Boxing was instrumental in raising the profile of many fighters in New York and beyond, and provided a stage for boxers to grow in the ring, including former world champion Paulie “The Magic Man” Malignaggi.

“When I look back on my boxing career, sure, I do enjoy the fact that I was able to win a world championship, but I also think that in the early stages of my pro career, the road to the top, and the platforms that I was able to fight on were pivotal in my developing into a championship fighter,” said Malignaggi. “Broadway Boxing was an important platform for not only my development as a fighter but also my development as a local attraction. It helped my name grow within the boxing community during those early stages of my career.”

Broadway Boxing is the birthplace of former world champion Heather “The Heat” Hardy, whose grit and determination has inspired and entertained boxing fans in New York for over a decade.

“I am so grateful that Lou provided me with a platform to showcase my skills and grow my fan base right here at home, in the greatest city in the world,” said Hardy. “New York City boxing is completely reliant on Broadway Boxing to nurture, grow, teach, and showcase our local fighters and future champions, what this business is all about. I’m proud that I got to be a part of it, and hope to make the next chapter of my boxing career holding some role in keeping these club shows alive for the next generation.”

Former fighter and rising star promoter, Dmitriy Salita, spent the earlier part of his career thrilling fans on Broadway Boxing events.

“The experience of Broadway Boxing is forever ingrained on my career and in my boxing heart,” said Salita. “My most memorable moment was when I won my first title against Shawn Gallegos at Hammerstein Ballroom and Matisyahu walked me into the ring. It was one of my boxing dreams and a great moment for myself and the Soviet Jewish community. We were all working hard and living toward our American Dream in New York City.”

“I’m thrilled to be able to combine this important anniversary for Broadway Boxing with a great cause, giving back to our heroic veterans of the military, with such charities involved as Merging Vets and Players and West Point Society of New York,” said DiBella. “Who better to headline this event, the week of Veterans Day, than Marine Veteran Jamel Herring, yet another world champion to now fight on Broadway Boxing.”

January 13: Jason Moloney to Defend WBO Bantamweight Crown against Saul Sanchez at Quebec City’s Videotron Centre on the Artur Beterbiev-Callum Smith Undercard

QUEBEC CITY, Canada (Nov. 1, 2023) — The bantamweight king from Down Under is ready to bring a little mayhem up north. Jason “Mayhem” Moloney will defend his WBO world title against Mexican-American challenger Saul Sanchez on Saturday, Jan. 13, at Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Canada.

Moloney-Sanchez will stream LIVE & exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ before the ESPN-televised doubleheader (10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT) featuring Artur Beterbiev’s WBC/IBF/WBO light heavyweight title defense against Callum “Mundo” Smith and undefeated super middleweight knockout artist Christian Mbilli against Rohan Murdock.

Moloney (26-2, 19 KOs), from Melbourne, Australia, traveled the long road to world title honors. In October 2018, he dropped a split decision to Emmanuel Rodriguez for the IBF bantamweight world title. Two years later, he fell to Naoya Inoue in seven rounds in a bid for the WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine titles. The former amateur standout stayed the course, reeling off victories over contenders Joshua Greer Jr. and Aston Palicte to position himself for a third crack at the brass ring. In May, he bested Filipino puncher Vincent Astrolabio by majority decision to claim his WBO title.

“Saul is coming off an impressive win against an undefeated opponent in Japan, and I’m sure he will be hungry to fight for a world title, but this is my era, the era of ‘Mayhem,’” Moloney said. “I achieved my dream of becoming world champion, but 2024 is the year I prove I’m the best bantamweight in the world. I want a very active year, and I plan to take out all the other champions. My mission is to become the undisputed champion, but first things first, an impressive knockout victory over Saul Sanchez. Canada, get ready for Mayhem!”

Los Angeles native Sanchez (20-2, 12 KOs) enters his first world title challenge riding a wave of momentum. After dropping a split decision to Eros Correa last June, Sanchez returned a year later to knock down Mexican puncher Franklin Gonzalez four times en route to a sixth-round stoppage victory. Sanchez rode that momentum to an October assignment against Filipino southpaw RV Deniega in Japan, where he won an eight-round unanimous decision.

Sanchez said, “I am excited about this opportunity. I am going to come in the best shape I have ever been in to get the victory and become the new world champion. I want to thank my manager Nomaan Ali at GOAT Management for securing and presenting this opportunity. I have won back-to-back fights, and I will be ready for this fight.”

WBC MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION JERMALL CHARLO BATTLES EXCITING CONTENDER JOSE BENAVIDEZ JR. TOPPING STACKED SHOWTIME PPV® UNDERCARD SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25

LAS VEGAS – November 1, 2023 – Undefeated WBC Middleweight World Champion Jermall Charlo will battle exciting contender José Benavídez Jr. in a 10-round non-title WBC special event in the co-main event of a stacked SHOWTIME PPV undercard on Saturday, November 25 in a Premier Boxing Champions event from Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

The pay-per-view will also see hard-hitting IBF 140-pound world champion Subriel Matías against unbeaten mandatory challenger Shohjahon Ergashev, plus WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Héctor Luis Garcia duels top-rated mandatory challenger Lamont Roach in the telecast opener at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

The event is headlined by undefeated two-time super middleweight world champion David “El Monstruo” Benavídez defending his Interim WBC Super Middleweight Title against unbeaten two-division world champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade in one of the most intriguing matchups in the star-studded 168-pound division.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Sampson Boxing, are on sale now and available at AXS.com.

“Boxing fans will get a full feast of action on November 25 with three high-stakes fights leading up to the SHOWTIME PPV main event between David Benavídez and Demetrius Andrade,” said Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions. “Jermall Charlo will look to show why he’s the top middleweight in the world against the highly-motivated José Benavídez Jr., while champions Subriel Matías and Héctor Luis Garcia will enter the ring seeking to hold off fast-rising mandatory challengers Shohjahon Ergashev and Lamont Roach. From start to finish, fans watching on pay-per-view and at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas are in for a memorable night where every bout could truly steal the show.”

The 33-year-old Charlo (31-0, 22 KOs) will return from a layoff of over two years, having held the WBC middleweight belt since 2019 with a run that includes a dominant victory over top middleweight contender Sergey Derevyanchenko in their September 2020 showdown. Charlo’s 160-pound victories have come after a championship reign at 154-pounds that lasted from 2015 through 2017. He has compiled a perfect 7-0 record since moving up to middleweight and owns victories over former champions Julian Williams, Austin Trout and Cornelius Bundrage at super welterweight, with both Williams and Bundrage succumbing to highlight-reel KO defeats.

“It’s been a long road to this point, but only the strong survive and I’m built different,” said Charlo. “I’m looking forward to reminding everyone that there is a reason why Jermall Charlo is an undefeated world champion and one of the best fighters today pound-for-pound. This is the next chapter of my life and it’s going to be my best, so I want all my fans to tune in on November 25, because I’m going to light up Las Vegas.”

Phoenix’s Benavídez (28-2-1, 19 KOs) is the older brother of headliner David Benavídez and is trained by his father José Sr. A long-established contender who was a highly decorated amateur, Benavídez moved up to super welterweight after dropping a 2018 world title challenge to Terence Crawford, concluding a long run at 147 pounds. He moved up to 154 pounds in July 2022, battling two-division champion Danny Garcia for 12 rounds before losing by a close majority decision. Benavídez made his 160 pound debut in August, blasting out veteran Sladan Janjanin in round five.

“I’ve been working hard and I feel strong and ready to take him out,” said Benavídez. “I’ve been wanting to fight Charlo for a while. I’m going to come that night and show him what I’m about. But I’m not here trying to use words. I don’t need to say anything. I’m going to let my fists do the talking in the ring on November 25.”

The 31-year-old Matías (19-1, 19 KOs) captured the IBF 140-pound championship in February, stopping the previously unbeaten Jeremias Ponce after five rounds of fast-paced, back-and-forth action on SHOWTIME®. Matías has shown that his power lasts throughout a fight, as his last seven victories have come via stoppage in round five or later. The lone loss of his career came against Petros Ananyan via 10-round unanimous decision in 2020 and was later avenged. Matías, of Farjado, Puerto Rico, faced two unbeaten boxers after the loss, defeating Malik Hawkins and Batyrzhan Jukembayev by stoppage. In the rematch with Ananyan, Matías emerged victorious by ninth-round TKO, methodically wearing his opponent down and exhausting him before dropping him and ending the action.

“I would always rather let my hands do the talking inside of the ring, but I’m very excited for this fight,” said Matías. “This is a great opportunity to be a part of a big event in Las Vegas. I had my only loss there, so I’m going to avenge that defeat on November 25 and show everyone that Subriel Matias is here to stay. I’m dedicating this fight to my hometown of Maternillo and the people of Puerto Rico.”

Born in Uzbekistan and now fighting out of Detroit under the tutelage of renowned trainer SugarHill Steward, Ergashev (23-0, 20 KOs) has dominated his competition since turning pro in 2015, earning his shot at the world title. After the 31-year-old made his U.S. debut in late 2017,  he stopped the previously unbeaten Sonny Fredrickson in three rounds in January 2018 in his second bout stateside. He’d follow that up in 2019 by winning a unanimous decision over Mykal Fox, handing him the first defeat of his career.  Ergashev most recently scored a pair of victories in 2022, shutting out Luis Alberto Veron on his way to a unanimous decision in May, before stopping Angel Martinez Hernandez in the fifth round in August.

“It’s been a long journey to finally get this opportunity to fight for the world title,” said Ergashev. “On Thanksgiving weekend I will make the whole journey worthwhile. The U.S.A. is the land of opportunity and I want to thank my team for always believing in me. It’s also exciting to be fighting with SHOWTIME, where I’ve had many fights throughout my career. With my trainers Sugarhill Steward and Theo Chambers in my corner, history will be made November 25 and Uzbekistan will finally have a world champion.”

García (16-1, 10 KOs) followed up his spectacular 2022 in January by challenging boxing superstar Gervonta Davis for his lightweight world title on SHOWTIME PPV, giving Davis a competitive bout before losing in round nine. García has fought professionally since December of 2016 after a stellar amateur career that included representing his native Dominican Republic in the 2016 Olympics and a runner-up finish at the 2015 Pan-Am Games in Toronto. Now training in Las Vegas under the watchful eye of respected trainer Bob Santos, García scored one of the biggest upsets of 2022 ,  dropping and defeating then unbeaten Chris Colbert in February of that year. Nearly six months later, García captured the world title with a one-sided unanimous decision over incumbent Roger Gutierrez in August.

“I’m happy to be back returning to the ring and fighting at my natural weight,” said Garcia. “I’m really looking forward to getting in there and defending my title against Lamont Roach. He’s a tough opponent, but I’m at my best at super featherweight and I’ll be ready for everything he brings. I’m having a great training camp and I can’t wait to show the world the adjustments I’ve made since the Gervonta Davis fight.”

The 28-year-old Roach (23-1-1, 9 KOs) enters this fight on a four-bout winning streak, earning his position at 130 pounds by defeating Angel Rodriguez via unanimous decision in their July 2022 title eliminator. Roach’s current run comes after he dropped a November 2019 130-pound world title fight via decision against Jamel Herring. A native of Washington, D.C., Roach began his pro career in 2014 with 16straight victories following an impressive amateur run that included a 2013 National Golden Gloves Championship and the honor of being named USA Boxing’s Most Outstanding Boxer.

“He couldn’t run for long, but we’re finally here,” said Roach. “I’m extremely excited for this fight and this opportunity. The world is going to get used to their new world champion and it starts when I get my hand raised on November 25.”
