BILLAM-SMITH DEFENDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AGAINST MASTERNAK IN BOURNEMOUTH ON SUNDAY DECEMBER 10TH

BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND – (October 24th, 2023) – An early Christmas cracker will be delivered to the Bournemouth beachfront on Sunday, December 10th as cruiserweight king Chris ‘The Gentleman’ Billam-Smith (18-1, 12 KO’s) makes the first defence of his WBO World Cruiserweight Championship.

Polish powerhouse Mateusz Masternak (47-5, 31 KO’s) – a former European  and IBF and WBA Intercontinental Cruiserweight Champion currently ranked #5 in the world by the WBO and #9 by the WBC – challenges Billam-Smith in a championship bout which headlines the BOXXER card taking place at the Bournemouth International Centre and airs live and exclusively on Sky Sports.

Returning to the UK for the first time since his 2015 European championship war with Tony Bellew, Masternak rides a six-fight win streak into the bout. Three of those wins have come by KO, one of them a fourth-round stoppage of Albania’s Armend Xhoxhaj, who went five rounds with Billam-Smith last year.

Having sold out the BIC on two previous occasions, December will mark Billam-Smith’s third time headlining Bournemouth’s largest indoor arena and his first contest since May, when he beat Lawrence Okolie in front of a capacity crowd at the Vitality Stadium.

And ahead of his maiden world title defence, Billam-Smith has committed his future to BOXXER by signing a new extended deal with the next-gen promoter, which includes a commitment to rematch Lawrence Okolie if he remains champion.

That event was the biggest boxing event in South Coast history and Billam-Smith’s return to action in December will be a triumphant year-end homecoming. Grateful for the years of loyal support, the champion requested the Sunday slot in order to allow travelling Bournemouth AFC fans to return from Saturday’s away game.

“Mateusz Masternak is a superb fighter, he’s proved that throughout his career. He’s got double the amount of fights that I have – he’s actually got more KO wins than I have fights – and his only losses are at the very top level. His style matches well with mine and I think it’s going to be a very exciting fight, I’m really looking forward to it,” said Billam-Smith.

Masternak said, “I think Chris Billam-Smith is a very good boxer. He showed his warrior soul in his last fight and proved that he deserves to be champion. I have a lot of respect for him in that way, but I believe more in my skills and my experience. I’ve been dreaming of the world championship since I started boxing. My boxing journey has been like a movie, all the highs and lows. I hope in December we get the best scene. I’m looking forward to fighting in England again, the fans create a great atmosphere there.“

BOXXER founder and CEO Ben Shalom said, “Chris Billam-Smith wanted his first defence of the WBO World Cruiserweight Championship to be a big crowd-pleaser of a fight in his home town. Mateusz Masternak ticks all the boxes; he’s ranked number five in the world, he’s got a ton of experience and he rarely takes a backwards step. He’s a very dangerous opponent and Billam-Smith is taking a serious risk here.

“Anyone who has ever experienced a BOXXER event at the Bournemouth International Centre will know just how crazy the atmosphere gets in there and I think this one will take that to a new level, the crowd are going to raise the roof. We’re ending the year with a guaranteed Christmas cracker and I can’t wait.”

Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou Make Grand Arrivals ahead of Saturday’s Battle of the Baddest

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (Oct. 24, 2023) — The Battle of the Baddest fight week kicked off in grand fashion Tuesday evening in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

WBC & lineal heavyweight boxing world champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury and lineal MMA heavyweight world champion Francis Ngannou made their grand arrivals today ahead of their showdown this Saturday, Oct. 28, at Boulevard Hall.

The long-awaited battle of behemoths kicks off Riyadh Season, one of the world’s leading entertainment festivals, which runs throughout the winter months in the Kingdom’s largest city.

Promoted by Queensberry, Top Rank and GIMIK Fight Promotions, the Fury-Ngannou card will stream live on Top Rank on ESPN+ PPV in the United States beginning at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. Priced at $79.99 across all distributors, it also will be available via cable and satellite pay-per-view providers.

The pay-per-view undercard will be an all-heavyweight extravaganza and features a 12-round showdown between undefeated British standouts Fabio Wardley (16-0, 15 KOs) and David Adeleye (12-0, 11 KOs), along with a 10-rounder between former heavyweight world champion Joseph Parker (32-3, 22 KOs) and Canadian knockout artist Simon Kean (23-1, 22 KOs).

Montreal-based wrecking ball Arslanbek Makhmudov (17-0, 16 KOs) will fight the upset-minded Junior Anthony Wright (20-4-1, 17 KOs) in a 10-round tilt, and Moses Itauma (5-0, 3 KOs) will open the pay-per-view broadcast in a six-rounder against Istvan Bernath (10-1, 8 KOs).

At Tuesday’s grand arrivals, this is what Fury and Ngannou had to say:

Tyson Fury

“I can stand and trade with anybody. I stood and traded with Wilder. I traded with Wladimir {Klitschko}, and I’ll stand and trade with this little bi*ch.”

“I might give him a slick, master boxing performance, not let the ugly man touch me once. That would be unbelievable, wouldn’t it? I might start dancing, tripling the jab like Apollo Creed, move around, just stick and move.

“When {Ngannou} feels this right hand, he won’t be winning very much.”

“Sometimes I stand in front of the mirror and think I’m an absolute genius. When everyone thought it was all over for the GK, he comes and totally redeems himself and pulls this out of the hat. Only six months ago, I didn’t know if I ever was going to box again. Now, here we go.”

“I’m not thinking about {the Oleksandr Usyk fight}. I got this big sausage to deal with, and once I grill him up nice and good, then we’ll move on to the next one.”

Francis Ngannou

“I can’t believe it. Walking from there, I looked at it like, “The boy made it.'”

“I didn’t try to replicate what Fury would do. I’m not going in there to play Fury’s game. I’m going there to play my own game. So, my training was based on me, how I can fight, and that’s what me and my coaches worked on. It went well. Tough, but it went well.”

“I’m aware of my lack of experience in boxing, but I am a man of challenges, and I’ve overcome a lot of challenges.”

“Before anything can happen on Saturday night, there are two. We are already the two baddest men on the planet. We’re just aiming for the first spot.”

“I’ve been waiting on Tyson Fury for four years. At the time, I didn’t know about Oleksandr Usyk. When the opportunity came, I wanted Tyson Fury. He’s the guy.”

RISING PROSPECT JOSHUA PAGAN KEEPS UNBEATEN RECORD INTACT WITH SHUTOUT VICTORY OVER BRAULIO RODRIGUEZ SATURDAY NIGHT

DETROIT – October 23, 2023 – Rising prospect Joshua Pagan remained unbeaten on Saturday night as the Salita Promotions sensation dominated veteran Braulio Rodriguez across six rounds to walk away with a unanimous decision by the score of 60-52 three times in action at Motor City Casino in Detroit.

Pagan (9-0, 4 KOs) dropped Rodriguez (20-8, 17 KOs) twice throughout the bout that marked his fifth victory of a busy 2023. After fighting at 140-pounds on Saturday, Pagan declared his intention to begin campaigning at 135 pounds and set his sights on a championship run in a star-studded division that includes the likes of Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney, Shakur Stevenson and more.

“It was a great fight on Saturday against an experienced opponent that gave me a good test,” said Pagan. “It felt great to get the rounds and experience in and see what I need to work on for the next camp. I’m going to focus on fighting at lightweight and I really feel as I keep improving, I’m going to be ready to face the best 135 pound champions and contenders.”

The 23-year-old Pagan will look to remain sharp as he now prepares to leave imminently to Puerto Rico with his trainer Theo Chambers to once again work alongside Jake Paul ahead of his announced ring return in December. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native first burst onto the national scene as an amateur when he won the 2021 U.S. Amateur Welterweight National Championship with a unanimous decision over Keon Davis. Now just a couple of years removed from that triumph, he’ll continue to make his case for contender status, now at lightweight.

“Joshua is improving with each fight and getting faster, stronger and sharper,” said Dmitriy Salita, President of Salita Promotions. “I believe that he’s a force to be reckoned with in the lightweight division and is going to add a lot of flavor to a very talented weight class in the very near future.”

FORMER WORLD CHAMPION MIYO YOSHIDA BATTLES SHURRETTA METCALF FOR VACANT IBF INTER-CONTINENTAL BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE

NEW YORK (October 23, 2023) In pursuit of another world title opportunity, two-time world champion, Miyo Yoshida, from Kayoshima, Japan, will face off against Shurretta Metcalf, of Dallas, TX, on Tuesday, November 7, as part of the latest installment of DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series, titled “Heroes on the Hudson” – a One Night Only event to support the heroic veterans of the United States Armed Forces. The bout, scheduled for 10 rounds at Edison Ballroom in New York City, will be contested for the vacant IBF Inter-Continental bantamweight title. Former world champion and US Marine Veteran, Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring, will compete in the main event.

The evening will kick off with five amateur bouts, each featuring an NYPD officer or military veteran, and will conclude with four world-class professional bouts. The amateur bouts will be exclusive to those in attendance. The professional boxing portion of the card, featuring Yoshida vs. Metcalf, will air live exclusively on DAZN, beginning at 8:00 PM ET.

Tickets for “Heroes On The Hudson” can be purchased via Telecharge.com or by calling (800) 447-7400. Tables of 10, including a sit-down dinner, are $10,000. Ringside seats, including buffet, are $250 plus ticket fees. Standing Room Only tickets are $125 plus ticket fees. All tickets, regardless of price, include open bar. Edison Ballroom is located at 240 West 47th Street, New York, NY 10036. Doors will open on the night of the event at 5:30 PM ET, with the first bout scheduled for 6:00 PM ET.

“Heroes On The Hudson” is proudly sponsored by Morgan Stanley and Cavu Securities. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to support Merging Vets and Players and the West Point Society of New York.

“Miyo Yoshida is a very talented fighter and a two-time world champion for a reason,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Her opponent on November 7, Shurretta Metcalf, is a formidable fighter herself, who has already shown me she is capable of competing at the top level of her division. This is an important fight with the IBF Inter-Continental title at stake and, likely, a world title challenge for the winner.”

Yoshida (16-3) defeated Casey Croft in 2019 to capture the WBO super flyweight world title. She lost the belt in her second title defense via technical decision after an accidental headbutt cut the bout short against Tomoko Okuda in December 2020. However, she regained the belt in a rematch six months later.

In her debut under the DiBella Entertainment banner, Yoshida defeated Indeya Smith on points over eight rounds on April 27. It was also her first fight in the United States. Despite her victory, she had reservations about her performance that she looks to put to rest on November 7.

“Last time, I was unable to properly prepare for the fight due to visa issues and the fact that I had just arrived in the US,” said Yoshida. “Communication was very difficult, especially with my trainers. For this bout, I have been able to train well at Gleason’s Gym and work very hard with my team. This time, I believe I’ll be able to show the true Miyo Yoshida.”

Yoshida hopes that a win on November 7 will place her one step closer to fighting for a world title once again. After arriving in the States about a year ago, Yoshida now considers New York home and looks forward to fighting at Edison Ballroom in Times Square.

“I have been treated with kindness by many New Yorkers and I really love the city. I am very grateful to be able to have a fight on an event supporting military veterans just days before this important holiday. I will fight in this match as a New Yorker.”

“I have watched videos of my opponent,” Yoshida said of Metcalf. “My impression of her is that she is tall and has a good out-boxer style. I have not fought at 118 pounds in five years. However, I have fought a lot of taller fighters, so it is not a problem.”

There is no shortage of inspiration for Yoshida, who will be cheered on by her eight-year-old daughter.

“I am inspired by my daughter, who believes in me and is always there for me, and by all of the people that support me.

“My childhood was very difficult,” she continued. “I want to prove that no matter how difficult things get, if you don’t give up on your dreams and keep pursuing them, you can make your dreams a reality regardless of your background. I also want to give people who are in the same situation as me the courage to live strongly.”

For her part, Metcalf (12-4-1, 2 KOs) is ready to show that she belongs in the ring with a two-time world champion.

“I’m feeling great,” said Metcalf. “I’m feeling strong. I’ve been manifesting this fight and working hard. I know [Yoshida] was a two-time WBO world champion and she’s coming to fight. I’m letting her know that I’m here to fight and I’m on that level as well.”

The experienced Metcalf, once ranked the #1 super bantamweight in the US as an amateur, is coming off of a win against previously unbeaten, former IBO bantamweight world champion Melissa Oddessa Parker on July 29. She has lost just once over the past six years, via majority decision.

Metcalf, who comes from a military family, said, “It means a lot to me to fight on ‘Heroes on the Hudson’. I have family that was in World War II. I have family who still lives in Killeen, TX, on the army base. All of my great uncles were in the army as well. They’re buried at the army cemetery here in Dallas.”

LEE MCGREGOR AND ISAAC LOWE COLLIDE ON DECEMBER 1 IN BOLTON, LIVE ON CHANNEL 5

Lee McGregor and Isaac Lowe are primed to deliver an all-British barnstormer, when they collide on December 1 live and free-to-air on Channel 5.

The featherweights clash for the WBO European title at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, Bolton in the mouth-watering headline fight of another hard-hitting Wasserman Boxing show.

And in the co-main event at ‘High Stakes’, ferocious flyweight Chloe Watson meets France’s Justine Lallemand in a battle for the prestigious European title

Delivered in association with LadbrokesNuman and Infinitum Entertainment, McGregor vs Lowe is a fight that will captivate British boxing fans with a place in the WBO world rankings the prize for the winner.

McGregor returns after losing a fight of the year contender against Erik Robles for the IBO world title, while Lowe – cousin of heavyweight king Tyson Fury – is rebuilding after a punishing defeat to Nick Ball last year.

December 1 is also set to be a breakout night for Watson as the future of female fighting in Britain, can claim her maiden title as a professional.

Lee McGregor said: “I like what I’ve been hearing from Isaac because he’s going to come and have a go on December 1. But I will out-box and out-fight him. I’m moving up to featherweight and I am going to be so strong.

“In my last fight against Robles, I was nowhere near 100% and the people close to me know the reasons for that. I could’ve taken the rematch, but I know I would not be giving a true reflection of myself if I did. This is a big fight and one the fans will like. After this win, it won’t be long before I am challenging for big titles again.

“Isaac, you are going to get the best version of me. You have been warned.”

BIG FIGHT ODDS WITH LADBROKES

McGregor 1/4, Lowe 3/1, Draw 16/1

Isaac Lowe said: “This is a great fight for the fans. We are going to punch the living daylights out of each other for 30 minutes – that’s if Lee can last the 10 rounds.

“The people around him think I’m past it and over the hill but there’s no way Lee is beating a fully fit and focused Isaac Lowe.

“I can mix it with the best and Lee won’t be able to cope with me on December 1. I punch a lot harder than any of the guys he’s been with before. Lee, what are you going to do when you lose to me?!”

Kalle Sauerland, Head of Global Boxing at Wasserman Boxing, said: “McGregor vs Lowe has ‘British classic’ written all over it!

“This is the highest stakes for both men, with world title aspirations, pride and national honour all on the line and so it has all the ingredients to be yet another fight of the year contender, live and free on Channel 5.

“December 1 is also a huge night for Chloe Watson who gets the chance to prove why so many people believe she is the future of the female code in this country by becoming European Champion – and the first female from Birkenhead to do so.  Winning the European title will be a huge step towards superstardom but trust me when I say that Lallemand is not coming over just to make up the numbers.”

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes commented: “Lee McGregor is on a redemption mission after suffering his first defeat last time out and the odds very much favour him to bounce back to winning ways against Isaac Lowe on December 1.

“It has all the ingredients to be an enthralling contest, but we believe McGregor has that bit more skill and power to come out on top.”

WBA feather belt becomes vacant after Leigh Wood moves up in rank

Leigh Wood has decided to move up to the super featherweight division, leaving the World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight belt vacant.

The British fighter recently defended his crown with a spectacular knockout over Josh Warrington on October 7 and had already announced unofficially his intention to move up to 130 pounds. This week, his team sent the formal communication of his decision to the pioneering body.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks to the WBA for their support and for allowing Leigh to win, defend and ultimately regain his world honors. The WBA has played a crucial role in shaping Leigh’s career, and we are truly grateful for the experiences he has gained during his time as Featherweight Champion,” noted the letter sent.

The text also mentions Ben Davison, Wood’s trainer and a great professional, who says he is in tune with the decision and sends words of thanks to the WBA for all the opportunities provided at 126 pounds.

The championships committee will study the present of the category and the rankings of the organization in order to make a decision regarding who will fight for the vacant belt.

The WBA thanks Wood for always wearing the belt with respect, honor and courage, and hopes to see him soon fighting for a new black and gold belt and representing the WBA colors.

After professional boxing took a three year hiatus from the state of North Carolina, Team Williams Jr put on the first pro boxing show in North Carolina. On August 12, 2023, Williams Jr delighted a jam packed ball room with a highlight reel stoppage of Ricardo David Ocampo. While Ocampo as an opponent might not have been what hardcore boxing fans wanted, he (Ocampo 12-13 7 KO’s) was exactly what North Carolina boing needed – a much needed WIN! Williams Jr delivered, and North Carolina boxing fans are frothing at the mouth for more.

Michael Williams Jr. 150% and his promoter/trainer/marketing guru father, Michael Williams Sr 300%, are ready to deliver. “Other promoters will step up, but right now, for my son, nobody is doing anything, so we are “doing” it. We are the ones taking the chances and entertaining North Carolina. This is hard work, but for my son, I will do it and it is worth it,” said Williams Sr.

What team Williams Jr has done is put together an entertaining night of professional boxing mixed with some local legend grudge matches. Ah, but the crown jewel in this potentially electrifying night of boxing is the return of professional championship style boxing when Fayetteville, North Carolina’s own Michael Williams Jr faces Juan Manuel Witt for the NBA welterweight championship belt.

All the non-believers, naysayers, trash talkers, and skeptics (including myself) need to shut our mouths about Williams Jr’s opponent on this one. In Witt, Williams Jr faces a tough fighter who knows how to win. Witt has won thirty two (32) of his thirty six (36) professional fights. Witt has only faced defeat in two of those fights. The two losses were in title fights against fighters with a combined winning record of 58-11-3. Witt’s most recent loss was to the well known and talented Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna 36-5-1 (16 KO’s). If you think Witt’s wins were against suspect opposition, he has beaten the exact same type of fighters Williams Jr has.

To say this is a step up in levels for Williams Jr, is an understatement. This fight is not a guaranteed bum of the month, tomato can, independent opponent money, promised win for Williams Jr. What it is – is the challenge Williams Jr needs to take, and the challenge his fans and non-fans need to see him to take to validate Michael Williams Jr 150% has moved from talented prospect status to true, contender status.

Folks, get your popcorn ready. Go to the Crown Coliseum to get your tickets. Because after this Williams Jr Witt showdown on Saturday, October 21, 2023, the next question we will all be asking, can he do this to Adrian Broner, Thomas Lamanna, or Ryan Garcia?

So, make sure you guys tune in October 21.”

CATTERALL VS. LINARES + UNDERCARD PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman:

“It’s a thrill to be back in this great city as part of an incredible run of events coming up to the end of 2023.

“Just yesterday we were in San Francisco for the press conference for Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis and the WBC World Super-Lightweight Title, we cannot wait for that fight on December 9, but this week we’re here with what should be the undisputed World Champion against the ‘Brit Destroyer’ Jorge Linares, live on DAZN around the world with an incredible undercard too.”

Jack Catterall:

“The fact that Jorge has been over here a number of times means that fans here are familiar with him, thats helped to sell the fight. When I got the call and was told it was Jorge next, it kicked me into action, it’s an exciting name who has been there and got the t-shirt, he’s had his time in the sun and now it’s my time.

“It excited me that he’s back training with Ismael Salas, that’s made me train extra hard at home. I put pressure on myself, he’s been a three-time World Champion, I would never look past this fight or disrespect Jorge. I think he understands that the winner of this fight puts themselves in the picture for much bigger fights.

“I set out in this sport to be World Champion. We haven’t achieved that yet but I do believe I have the ability to do it. We’ve had conversations about a number of fights in the future but all of that means nothing without beating Jorge on Saturday.”

Jorge Linares:

“I have a lot of beautiful memories of fighting in England, in London with Kevin Mitchell and two times in Manchester with Anthony Crolla. This is a different time and opponent, I feel I am fighting an undefeated fighter, for me, Catterall is a World Champion, he didn’t lose the fight against Josh Taylor.

“So this is a big night for me, I am close to retirement, I’m coming in great shape, better than the other times I’ve come to England, I feel like a 20 year old. I’m excited and super excited to be here. I don’t like talking too much, but I am excited to have a great fight with Jack.

“I’m coming off three losses but I don’t think about that, I know I’m in with a great fighter but I’ve been here before and have had a great camp.”

Peter McGrail:

“I’m made up to be in Liverpool in front of my family and hometown fans on a greta card. Fran is in my way to where I want to go, on paper he’s a step up, but he’s not going to be bringing anything to the table that I haven’t seen before.

“The better the opposition gets the better I will perform. He said he’s coming for war, the more he comes, the more he’ll get punished, so I am looking forward to it and I am ready.

“Over the next year or two I want to be selling out the Arena and winning a World Title there.”

Fran Mendoza:

“Everyone knows what I am coming here to do. I am a strong fighter and I am coming to have a tear-up on Saturday night.

“We come to take victory home with us and it will be a war to the very end.”

Aqib Fiaz:

“Ever since I started boxing I’ve dreamed of being in fights like this. I’m all about excitement as you’ve seen before, I love to have a fight, so does Reece, our styles will gel and it’ll be a good fight for the fans.

“I’ve put in a serious amount of work. Jack and I have trained together for this date, and we’ve been pushing each other in the gym. We’ve worked extremely hard so on Saturday you’ll see the best version of me and the best of Reece too.”

Reece Bellotti:

“It makes a change that I am actually the favourite in a fight for once! I’ve had a great camp, I’ve sparred loads of rounds with Joe Cordina, you can’t get better sparring than that so I’ve well prepared for this fight and I know it’s a big one.

“You need to tick a lot of boxes as a fighter, when you move to 12 rounds you need to do a hard 12 rounds, you’ve done well, adapted and put it towards your next fight.

“I’ve had a very hard camp so I am in very good shape. It’s not always about the power, you can’t always rely on it, it’s something that I’ve learned having these long fights and the experience, I can box and I can punch, and he’s got to deal with that on the night.”

Shabaz Masoud:

“Pressure makes diamonds. To be honest, he’s a good opponent and a step up, but I am treating this as just another fight. Each fight is a World Title for me.

“I’m just coming to do me, and as long as I do that, I know I will get the W.

“We’ve done amazing with tickets and I want to thank everyone that’s showed out, on Saturday, let’s go.”

Jose Sanmartin:

“Thank you for the opportunity, we come here to do what we do, we come here to do our work.

“MasoUd knows what I am coming for, we’re coming for war and the victory. He moves very well in the ring, but I think my experience will be too much for him.”

Khaleel Majid:

“This is the fight that everyone wanted, Tom has had plenty of notice for the fight, my fans want to see me in a step up fight and Tom is a great opponent for that.

“We’re not overlooking Tom, we know he’s a good fighter, the best I’ve been in with to date, so we’re covering all angles and on Saturday night we’ll put a major performance on.”

Tom Farrell:

“I’ve always had good support, especially when I come on these shows. It’s been about four years since I’ve been on one when I fought Masher Dodd, I’ve been a bit unlucky over the years and suffered some defeats, but I’m not finished yet. People are probably looking at me as a good scalp now, I’ve had a bit of an injury in my last fights and I hope that they are looking too much into that and looking past me as a stepping stone, because if they have, it’s a big mistake.

“I’ve done the 10 round and 12 round distance plenty of times, funnily enough, this is my first ever eight rounder, I went straight from sixes to 12’s, Khaleel has only done eight rounds once, so I think it is a big step up for him, and I am more than ready so I hope he is.”

Campbell Hatton:

“It’s another good test and step up in opponent, and I think it’s going to bring the best out of me. I showed a different side of my game last time, used my jab a lot more and had more movement, showing that I can adapt my style. We’ve touched every base in camp and improved in every department so I want to show that again.

“I’ve got confidence in my engine now and I’m a more mature fighter, I’m pacing things better and thinking about what I am doing. So I am ready for the bigger tests, moving onto longer fights and I think it will suit me the way I am starting to box a lot more. I know I can maintain it over the longer distance and I have done the eight rounds already. I’ve done a lot of my learning now, there’s still more to learn but I think we’re in a good position and we can start kicking on.”

Paddy Lacey:

“It’s a big test and step up for me. I’m made up to be on this bill with some of these great fighters around me, I forgive you Eddie for forgetting about me, I really can’t wait for Saturday.

“I’ve had ten fights in two years as a pro and I feel like I’ve been constantly improving as a fighter, going into 2024, I’d love to get the Central Area Title. That’s a ten rounder and Saturday we’ve got an eight rounder so that builds me up perfectly for that goal.”

Muhammad Ali:

“I’m looking forward to fighting in Liverpool and put on another show like I did last time. The more fights I have, the more the fanbase is building.”

William Crolla:

“It’s great to be back in action again. There’s more pictures of Jorge Linares in my Dad’s house than there is of me!

“If I didn’t feel it, there was a lot of pressure on me on my debut, I think it showed in my performance and I wasn’t best pleased with it. Obviously I had to overcome a knockdown in that, but I believe on Saturday I’ll be a different fighter, with the work I’ve been putting in at the gym and sparring some of the best prospects, I think it’s all going to show on Saturday.”

Jack Turner:

“Not many people can sell 1000 tickets, I’m only a young lad but it’s not just me coming on Saturday, it’s me and my team, so I am coning to put on a statement showing and get the KO. I believe I will become a World Champion one day but I am not going to rush, we’ll take it step by step, but I will run through this division and show you all what I am made of.”

UNBEATEN MIKIAH KREPS RETURNS NOVEMBER 7 ON BROADWAY BOXING: HEROES ON THE HUDSON

NEW YORK (October 19, 2023) On Tuesday, November 7, world-ranked contender Mikiah Kreps steps into the ring to continue her unbeaten streak as part of the latest installment of DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series, titled “Heroes on the Hudson” – a One Night Only event to support the heroic veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Kreps will meet her opponent, Isis Vargas Perez, in an eight-round super bantamweight contest at Edison Ballroom in New York City. Kreps’ co-manager and former world champion, Jamel “Semper Fi” Herring, will compete in the main event.

The evening will kick off with five amateur bouts, each featuring an NYPD officer or military veteran, and will conclude with four world-class professional bouts. The amateur bouts will be exclusive to those in attendance. The professional boxing portion of the card, featuring Kreps vs. Perez, will air live exclusively on DAZN, beginning at 8:00 PM ET.

“I’m thrilled to have Mikiah Kreps as part of this great card and I know how much it means to her to fight on the same show as her co-manager, Jamel Herring,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “She will face a very tough test in Isis Vargas Perez, who is a former world title challenger. Mikiah was a touted amateur and she has what it takes to become a world champion.”

Famed trainer Manny Robles will be in Kreps’ corner that evening, along with her mother, Deborah Fields, who is credited with giving Kreps her start in boxing. At only five years old, Kreps tagged along with her mother when she joined a boxing gym with the intention of getting in shape. Fields would go on to become the “Knockout Nurse,” fighting on the amateur circuit in their hometown of Niagara Falls, NY.

Before her 2020 pro debut, Mikiah was a highly accomplished amateur herself, winning gold at the 2018 Elite National Championships, the 2017 Eastern Elite Qualifier and 2014 National Golden Gloves.

Now 6-0 (3 KOs) as a pro, this will be Kreps’ first time fighting on an undercard of Herring, who joins Jerry Casarez in managing Kreps. This makes the theme of the event, “Heroes on the Hudson,” particularly special for Kreps, as Herring is a US Marine veteran.

“I’m blessed and grateful to be a part of a big event like this and to honor all the troops that have served and are serving,” said Kreps. “With Jamel fighting in the main event, I’m just blessed to be a part of this card.”

Having Herring as her manager has been refreshing for Kreps. “He can relate to me not just as a manager, but as a fighter,” she said. “He always looks out for me. It’s different when you have someone that can relate to you as a fighter as well.”

Kreps is coming off a first-round knockout of Luz Elena Martinez in Kreps’ hometown in May. The knockout came two minutes into the bout.

Her opponent, Isis Vargas Perez, bested Jacqueline Mucio Munoz in an eight-round majority decision last October. In April 2022, Perez challenged Yamileth Mercado for the WBC super bantamweight world title.

“I feel very motivated and excited for this great opportunity that is presented to me,” said Perez. “It is my international debut and that motivates me even more. As always, it is my custom to prepare myself to give a great show and leave everything in the ring, always with the objective to win and to give my best. The public will have a great show.”

“I have always said it,” continued Perez. “I like strong tests, they push me to my limits. I want to be a champion, and for that I have to face the best. My rival is strong, just like me she is preparing to win, so I am sure that we will both dare to be great. We are preparing well with my team, and we are fine-tuning details to reach one thousand percent on November 7. I thank DiBella Entertainment for this opportunity and Rios Promotions for trusting me. I guarantee it will be the best fight of the night.”

“I know she contested for a world title in the past,” said Kreps of her opponent. “My team is doing all of their research and we’ll be ready on November 7.”

Quotes: Bitter rivals Lawal and Chamberlain square off ahead of Saturday showdown

Mikael Lawal and Isaac Chamberlain exchanged heated words at today’s final press conference as the British cruiserweight rivals prepare to settle their long running feud on Saturday night at London’s iconic York Hall, live on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Sports Showcase.

Hailing from opposite sides of London, the two former sparring partners are now bitter rivals who have been getting into heated exchanges every time they’ve been brought face to face in the build-up to what is one of the most highly-anticipated domestic fights of the year. .

On the line is both Lawal’s British Cruiserweight Championship and the vacant Commonwealth Cruiserweight Championship, along with all-important London bragging rights.

The card also features Commonwealth super-welterweight champion Louis Greene defending against Sam Gilley, Olympic bronze medallist Karriss Artingstall facing Canadian former world title challenger ‘Vicious’ Vanessa Bradford and Michael Hennessy Jr facing fan favourite Joe Laws.

Final quotes:

BEN SHALOM:

“It’s been a crazy 48 hours. I’ve never experienced anything like it. But I think when things get tough, that’s when you learn about yourself, that’s when you learn about your team. To see the passion from the team and from Sky,  to fight for the show to stay on and to be able to move venues like they did, was incredible.

“I’m delighted and excited now, to be here and be looking forward to an amazing night at York Hall this Saturday. It’s going to be one of the biggest nights I think the venue has ever seen.”

MIKAEL LAWAL

“He’s not winding me up. It’s all irrelevant, on Saturday we’re going to fight… All the talking this guy’s been doing. We can finally lay it to rest.

“If I land, definitely [I knock him out]. I’m just going to beat him. I just find a way to win.”

ISAAC CHAMBERLAIN

“I’ll knock [Lawal] out. It’s going to be big, finally all of this comes to a close on Saturday and I’ll be crowned the new British and Commonwealth cruiserweight champion.”

“I’ve come a long way, I’m enjoying the journey.”

LOUIS GREENE, defending Commonwealth Super-Welterweight Champion

“I believe I can beat Sam, he believes he can beat me, with his style and my style there’s going to be fireworks, it’s going to go off.

“This is combat, we’re here to fight and when you’ve stopped boxing do you want to have a look at your record and have a list of 30 men who just danced for a few rounds or do you want to be in memorable fights?

SAM GILLEYchallenger

“We don’t need to sell it as bad blood. We’re both very aggressive, very strong, we both punch, so it makes for a good fight. His strengths work for my weaknesses and my strengths work for his weaknesses, so it’s down to whoever makes the least mistakes. So, it’s going to be explosive.

KARRISS ARTINGSTALL

“She’s not going to teach me anything in the pro ring. Boxing’s boxing. On Saturday night I want to show what I have been working on, I do work very hard. I just want to show my skills.”

VANESSA BRADFORD

“This is the pro game and I’m excited to show her what the pros is all about on Saturday night.”

MICHAEL HENNESSY JR

“When we sparred your head was like a magnet for my hands. I’m sending you out of pro boxing, you’re going to Misfits.”

JOE LAWS

“I’m not a boxer, I’m a fighter – I’m getting stuck clean in, I wear my heart on my sleeve and I’m getting the win. Nobody thinks I’m going to win, most of my friends don’t think I’m going to win, but I do.

“When I knock him out, that propels me to big fights. Of course, I’m the underdog – I’ve been eating cheesecake and drinking cocktails. If you want to drink champagne, you’ve got to take chances, and that’s why I’ve taken this shot.”

Lawal and Chamberlain top the bill in York Hill following the postponement of the world title final eliminator showdown between Josha Buatsi and Dan Azeez due to an injury sustained by Azeez in his final training session this week.

Tickets for the postponed Buatsi v Azeez bout at The O2 will automatically remain valid for the newly rescheduled date, which will be communicated soon. A full refund is available to all ticket holders via their original ticket provider.

Tickets for York Hall on Saturday are now on general sale from £35. General sale is on a first come first served basis and expected to sell out today.

This Saturday’s broadcast begins at 7.30pm on Sky Sports Arena and Sky Showcase.
