HEFFRON SPARRING LIAM SMITH, GETTING INSIDE TRACK ON LIAM WILLIAMS

MARK HEFFRON HAS locked horns in training with an informative ally as he prepares to challenge for the vacant British middleweight title against Liam Williams at the Manchester Arena on December 22.

Heffron, 21-0, last week received the welcome news that he would still be competing for the coveted Lonsdale belt against Williams, who is jumping up to 160lbs for a fight that has caused a big stir in the boxing fraternity and one of many that could potentially steal the show on the epic Josh Warrington-Carl Frampton card, live on BT Box Office.

The knockout artist from Oldham – also known as ‘Kid Dynamite’ – is now in possession of some useful inside knowledge on the workings of his opponent, otherwise known as ‘The Machine’.

Because, he shared a ring on Monday with none other than Williams’ nemesis Liam Smith, who has experienced two ultimately successful encounters with the Welshman.

“It was good, man, and I got a good solid eight rounds in with Liam where my fitness was mint,” reported the 27-year-old. “I would say I am ahead of where I thought I would be at this point.

“Yeah he has been telling me loads of things, Liam, just loads. I’ve been taking it all in when he is telling me what Liam Williams is good and bad at.

“I won’t say what, but I have picked up loads of little things myself from watching him too. So with Liam Smith telling me lots of points too I would say everything is going to plan up to now.

“I am looking forward to it,” added the WBC International title holder, who is happy that the British title remains on the line for a fight he considers to be of far greater magnitude than the one he was originally mandated for.

“I’m buzzing, Liam Williams is a big light middleweight anyway and it is a big name for me when I beat him.

“I am still getting to fight for the British and at this level I will beat them all.

“I am even more happy that it is against Liam because he is a massive name for me, much more so than Jason Welborn, and he will bring the best out in me.

“It is a much bigger fight.”

IBF world featherweight champion Josh Warrington takes on former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd live on BT Sport Box Office. Mark Heffron and Liam Williams contest the vacant British middleweight title and Belfast’s blue chip featherweight prospect Michael Conlan (9-0) takes on former commonwealth champion Jason Cunningham (24-5). At heavyweight, Nathan Gorman takes a step up in class against former world title challenger Alex Leapai.

Elsewhere on the bill, world flyweight title challenger Paddy Barnes (5-1) and unbeaten Light Heavyweight contender Steven Ward (9-0) return to action. Manchester’s 12-0 Light Heavyweight Lyndon Arthur and 7-0 Darlington middleweight Troy Williamson also feature.

Tickets are priced at £50 Upper Tier, £80 Tier, £100 Tier, £150 Tier, £200 Floor/Tier, £300 Floor, £400 Floor, £600 Inner Ring VIP Hospitality and are available.

Tickets available via Manchester Arena

WBA Middleweight Champion Rob Brant Signs Co-Promotional Agreement with Top Rank

(Nov. 20, 2018) — Top Rank has signed WBA middleweight world champion Rob “Bravo” Brant to a multi-year co-promotional agreement with Greg Cohen Promotions and Rapacz Boxing, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum announced today.

Brant, from St. Paul, Minn., defeated then-champion Ryota Murata via unanimous decision on Oct. 20 in Las Vegas, throwing a mind-boggling 1,262 punches. Brant (24-1, 16 KOs) is unbeaten as a middleweight and looking to unify the division.

Brant’s first fight under this new agreement will be announced shortly.

“I am very excited to be a part of one of the oldest and most prestigious promotions in the sport of boxing,” Brant said. “I look forward to reaching my maximum potential and maintaining my status as a world champion under Top Rank. This is a dream come true, and I will not take this opportunity for granted.”

“We are delighted to have entered into a co-promotion agreement with Greg Cohen Promotions and Rapacz Boxing to exhibit future fights for middleweight champion Rob Brant,” Arum said. “Rob is a tremendous talent, he comes with very high character, and he will be a future superstar in the United States.”

“I couldn’t be more excited about our partnership with Top Rank,” Cohen said. “They are the gold standard in our business, and with the platform that ESPN provides, Rob Brant will become a household name. We can’t wait to get started.”

“For years, as Rob developed in Minnesota, we always believed he has had the necessary intangibles to become one of the top names in this sport,” said Cory Rapacz, CEO of Rapacz Boxing. “His performance on Oct. 20 against Murata showed he has world-class talent, and now we’re confident this new partnership with the sport’s biggest platform, Top Rank on ESPN, will give him the opportunity to reach the highest levels of stardom. This is a fantastic deal for everyone involved.”

Brant, a six-year pro, turned pro following a decorated amateur career that included gold medals at the 2009 U.S. National Championships and 2010 National Golden Gloves Championships. A 178-pounder for much of his amateur career, Brant moved down to middleweight when he transitioned to the paid ranks. He won the first 22 bouts of his career before moving up to super middleweight to participate in the World Boxing Super Series, where he lost a unanimous decision to hometown favorite Juergen Braehmer in Schwerin, Germany.

He immediately returned to the more comfortable confines of the middleweight division. In March, he knocked out Colby Courter in the opening round to set up his title challenge versus Murata. Armed with a new trainer in his corner, former light heavyweight world champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Brant put forth a combination punching tour de force, immediately stamping himself as an elite middleweight.

CHARLO TWINS TALK THANKSGIVING MEMORIES & TRAINING DURING HOLIDAY SEASON

BROOKLYN (November 20, 2018) – Twin world champions Jermall and Jermell Charlo will be with their family this Thanksgiving, but they’ll be unable to feast as they are deep in training for their respective matchups that headline primetime action Saturday, December 22 on FOX and FOX Deportes in Premier Boxing Champions action from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™.

Jermall defends his interim WBC middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr., while WBC Super Welterweight World Champion Jermell Charlo battles Tony Harrison on the telecast that begins at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. Luckily for the Charlo twins, they have plenty of experience training during the holiday season.

“We’ve pretty much fought on Thanksgiving all our lives,” said Jermall. “It’s a big day for our family, but we’ve always had to cut weight or train. My mom would always make a separate meal for me and Jermell. That’s one of my main memories of Thanksgiving.”

Jermall has a busy resume of fighting during the holiday season as he fought in either after Thanksgiving or in December or January every year from 2012 through 2016. This includes a world title defense two days after Thanksgiving in 2015 and his sensational knockout over Julian Williams in December 2016.

Jermell is no stranger to entering the ring this time of year either, as his pro debut came in December of 2007. He also scored victories in December 2009 and two days after Thanksgiving in 2012 before returning in January 2013. His victory over Gabriel Rosado in 2014 also came in January as he rang in the new year with a win.

“My Thanksgiving memories are definitely unique because I’m always fighting,” said Jermell. “It’s a great time to be with our whole family even if we can’t eat anything we want. The family gets all dressed up and we just have fun together.”

Despite being busy in the gym and in the ring, the Charlos have still been able to keep up the Thanksgiving traditions that make the holiday mean so much to them.

“One thing we do different is that our family always has gumbo at our Thanksgiving,” said Jermell. “That’s a tradition my mom started. The whole family looks forward to it.”

“We always have the gumbo from my mom, and we always watch an old boxing fight and the Detroit Lions game,” said Jermall. “Something about the old school Lions uniforms always feels like Thanksgiving.”

As they near another holiday fight night, and a chance to defend their titles in back-to-back fights, the Charlo brothers are thankful for all they have inside and outside of the ring.

“This is a great opportunity to shine with my brother and I’m very thankful for it,” said Jermall. “We’ve been blessed to be in this position and have a great support system around us. We’re going to make all of our hard work count.”

“I’m really thankful for my son and all of the great people I have around me,” said Jermell. “I’m thankful that I’ve created peace in myself and that I can be a happy person. I can’t wait to show my joy in that ring.”

Tickets for the show, which is being promoted by Lions Only Promotions and TGB Promotions in association with DiBella Entertainment, are on sale now. Chance of a lifetime for heavyweight prospect Alexander “The Great” Flores Hits road to face former world champion Joseph Parker

LAS VEGAS (November 20, 2018) – Former World Boxing Organization (WBO Youth World Heavyweight Champion Alexander “The Great” Flores, promoted by Roy Jones, Jr. Boxing (RJJ), has an opportunity of a lifetime December 15, when the gifted 28-year-old Mexican-American travels halfway around the world to take on former world heavyweight titlist Joseph Parker in New Zealand.

Fighting out of Rowland Heights, California, the heavy-handed Flores (17-1-1, 15 KOs) is confident as he trains at home to face Parker in his backyard.

“There is no way this fight goes 10 rounds,” Flores said. “I’m going to knock him out. A lot of people might not have heard of Alexander ‘The Great’ Flores yet, but they’ll all know who I am after December 15th.”

Flores’ lone loss as a professional came 3 ½ years ago against former world champion Charles Martin for the North American Boxing Association (NABF) crown. Flores, who took the fight with only two weeks’ notice, was stopped in the fourth round.

“Alexander can dramatically change his life by defeating Parker and we’re confident he can go to New Zealand and pull off an upset,” said Keith Veltre, co-promoter of Roy Jones, Jr. Boxing. “Alexander has power in both hands and he will certainly test Parker’s chin. Flores isn’t going over there just for a paycheck, he’s going to send shockwaves throughout the boxing world.”

An impressive victory against Parker, who has lost his last two fights against unified world champion Anthony Joshua and Dillian White, should propel Flores high in the competitive heavyweight division.

“I’m really glad that Alex is coming to New Zealand full of confidence,” remarked Parker, who is training in Las Vegas. “For me, boxing is all about the challenge, and this is another big one. I know what is at stake. I need to win and win well. I need to knock him out and I will knock him out, but I can’t focus on that. I need to focus on getting better each and every time I get in the ring.”

Parker has never been knocked out as a pro and he’ll be fighting at home for the first time in 1 ½ years.

“After a five-year undefeated run that took Joe all the way to the WBO World title, we now find ourselves in very unusual territory, coming off back-to-back loses,” Parker’s head trainer Kevin Barry noted. “Joe has never been in this position before and needs a top performance. Joe finds himself under huge pressure to not only win this fight, but to win big and get his career back on track.

“These guys (Parker and Flores) are the same height (6’ 4”) and both pack a serious punch, so it stacks up as a great contest. This is a dangerous fight, one that Joseph Parker is fighting for his career.”

Parker, however, may be looking past Flores, according to his recent statements in the media. First, Parker called out Tony Bellew, who just lost to undisputed, undefeated world cruiserweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, and then the big New Zealander said he’d like to fight the winner of Whyte-Derek Chisora II.

Meanwhile, Flores is training like Rocky to make a major statement, one that promises to surprise a lot of boxing fans.

YAFAI: I WANT UNIFICATION FIGHTS IN 2019

Kal Yafai is targeting unification fights with the Super-Flyweight division’s other World Champions in 2019 should he get past Mexico’s Israel Gonzalez this Saturday at the Casino de Monte-Carlo in Monaco.

The unbeaten Birmingham star puts his WBA crown on the line for the fourth time against former World title challenger Gonzalez, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US, and is planning on delivering an explosive performance to end the year with a bang.

“The most important thing is winning and looking good in doing so,” said Yafai. “There’s some huge fights to be made in 2019 so I just need to get in there and do what I do best and impress. I’ll be looking to put on an explosive performance to end the year in style.

“Gonzalez looks like a tough fighter and he looks dangerous on the counter. From his record you can tell that he’s durable, so I’ve got to be on it. I’ll need to put in a solid performance to deal with him.

“I expect him to be looking to counter early on but then as the first three or four rounds go by, if it goes that far, he’ll realise that he can’t outbox me or counter me. He’ll have to resort to coming forward and applying pressure which won’t work out for him very well.”

Yafai emphatically announced himself in the US when he stopped David Carmona in seven rounds on his American debut at the Save Mart Arena in California earlier this year and is keen to fight in the States again next year.

“I really enjoyed my American debut. It was an exciting fight to be involved in and entertaining for the fans. Hopefully on Saturday I’ll do a good job on this guy, look good, and then head back over to America next year and get some big fights.

“I love the States and I love being over there. I’m looking forward to going back over there and impressing once again. I need to get the job done on Saturday and then we can look forward to an exciting 2019.”

Saturday will be the second World title attempt for Gonzalez (23-2, 10 KO’s) after he was stopped in ten rounds by IBF kingpin Jerwin Ancajas Bank of America Center in Texas. The feisty Filipino southpaw is no stranger to these shores having wiped out Jamie Conlan in 2017 and Yafai is eager for a blockbuster showdown with the Manny Pacquiao-promoted fighter.

“Jerwin Ancajas and Sor Rungvisai are obviously the two names that stick out,” added Yafai. “They hold the IBF and WBC belts so I’d like a crack at either of them next year. Donnie Nietes and Kazuto Ioka are fighting for the Vacant WBO title on New Year’s Eve so the winner of that is another option.

“Roman Gonzalez is still a massive name in the division and that would be a huge fight for me that would bring a lot of money to the table. It’s an exciting time to be fighting at 115lbs and I just need to make sure that I shine on Saturday.”

Yafai’s clash with Gonzalez is part of a huge night of action in Monaco.

Main event sees dangerous Russian Denis Lebedev defend his WBA Cruiserweight World title against undefeated American Mike Wilson.

Former World title challenger Frank Buglioni takes on undefeated Chinese amateur star Fanlong Meng for the IBF Inter-Continental Light-Heavyweight title.

Fresh from a shock win over highly-touted Heavyweight prospect Martin Bakole, America’s Michael Hunter steps in to face Russia’s Alexander Ustinov and Kazakhstan’s Rio Olympic gold medallist Daniyar Yeleussinov faces Marcos Mojica in his fifth professional contest.

Top Rank Signs Vijender Singh

(Nov. 19, 2018) — Vijender Singh, a three-time Indian Olympian, 2008 Olympic bronze medalist, and current unbeaten super middleweight contender has signed a multi-year agreement with Top Rank, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum announced today.

Singh (10-0, 7 KOs), who has fought all but one of his professional bouts in India and England, will make his debut under the Top Rank banner in early 2019.

“Top Rank is very excited to enter into a contract with Vijender,” Arum said. “We intend to make him a big star in the United States and look forward to him participating in major events in India, where he is already a major superstar.”

“I am really excited to be on board with Bob Arum and Top Rank,” Singh said. “I have always wanted to work with someone who is the best in the business, and I know Top Rank has been the driving force behind boxing’s biggest superstars, including Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather, and Miguel Cotto. I am eagerly waiting a date for my U.S. debut to take on the world and keep the Indian flag on the world boxing map fluttering high. I also want to thank Mr. Neerav Tomar and IOS Boxing Promotions for helping get me to this point of my professional career, and I look forward to working with Top Rank.”

“We at IOS are thrilled to be signing with the top boxing promoter in the world today, Mr. Bob Arum,” said Tomar, CEO of IOS Boxing Promotions. “There was only one choice when we decided to go with a promoter in United States, and Bob has done so much for professional boxers over the years and has been instrumental in building the careers of so many of the best boxers in the world today. We are honored to be promoted by him, and we look forward to a great future and shaping Vijender as a force to be reckoned with in the world of professional boxing.”

Singh, 33, turned pro in 2015 following an extensive amateur career that made him a mainstream celebrity in India, which included stints in Bollywood films and on the popular Indian dance reality show, “Nach Baliye.” But it was Singh’s in-the-ring accomplishments that set him apart. As an 18-year-old, he represented his homeland as a light welterweight at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Four years later, at the Beijing Olympics and fighting as a middleweight, Singh captured a bronze medal to become India’s first Olympic boxing medalist. During the 2008 Olympics, he defeated Badou Jack, a current light heavyweight contender and former two-weight world champion.

Singh went on to capture bronze at the 2009 World Championships (where he defeated current top middleweight contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko), gold at the 2010 Asian Games, and qualified for the 2012 Olympics.

As a professional, he’s captured WBO Asia Pacific and Oriental super middleweight honors. He last fought on Dec. 23, 2017, scoring a shutout 10-round decision against tough Ghanaian Ernest Amuzu at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium in Jaipur, India. Armed with Top Rank’s backing, Singh is hoping to become India’s first professional world champion. That journey begins in 2019.

Former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Jr. Welterweight Boxing Champion, ISKA World Welterweight Kickboxing Champion and WKA World Super Welterweight World Kickboxing Champion, with over 13 years professional fight experience. Been featured on HBO PPV, HBO Boxing After Dark, NBC Primetime, Showtime EXTREME, PBC on Spike, ESPN Friday Night Fights, and NBC Sports.
Algieri established himself as the ‘Pride of Huntington’, fighting in Long Island, NY just miles from his hometown of Greenlawn at The Paramount Theater in Huntington, NY, selling out the Theater eight consecutive times. He then went on to headline HBO’s Boxing After Dark, where he staged Ring Magazine’s Upset of 2014, by defeating Ruslan Provodnikov to win the WBO Super Lightweight World title at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. This led to the biggest fight of his life…

In only his 21st Professional Boxing match; Chris moved up in weight to fight the future Hall of Famer, Manny Pacquiao, in Macao China on HBO Pay Per View. Chris dropped the decision to the Philippino Great, but earned much respect in defeat. The world tour that preceded the build up to fight night saw 7 countries and exposed Chris to countless fans from all over the world.

Joining Algieri will be his longtime promoter Joe DeGuardia.

DeGuardia, who is the President of Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing has promoted countless world champions and championship fights over the past two-plus decades.

Joe began promoting boxing fights in 1992, founding Star Boxing, a boxing promotional company originally based in the Bronx, NY. For the last 26 years, DeGuardia has been professionally active in the boxing industry promoting. Past and present, boxers promoted by Star Boxing include former world champion Antonio Tarver, two time World Champion and 2008 US Olympian Demetrius Andrade, former WBO Jr. Welterweight champion Chris Algieri, former IBF Welterweight champion Joshua Clottey, former Heavyweight contender Vinny Maddalone and former WBC International Light Heavyweight champ Joe Smith Jr.. In 2016, DeGuardia moved Star Boxing’s offices to White Plains, NY.

Stanton will be talking about his terrific book titled “Unbeaten,” which is a story about Rocky Marciano – The son of poor Italian immigrants, with short arms and stubby legs, Rocky Marciano accomplished a feat that eluded legendary heavyweight champions like Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, Muhammad Ali, and Mike Tyson: He never lost a professional fight. His record was a perfect 49-0.
Unbeaten is the story of this remarkable champion who overcame injury, doubt, and the schemes of corrupt promoters to win the title in a bloody and epic battle with Jersey Joe Walcott in 1952. Rocky packed a devastating punch with an innocent nickname, “Suzie Q,” against which there was no defense. As the champ, he came to know presidents and movie stars – and the organized crime figures who dominated the sport, much to his growing disgust. He may have “stood out in boxing like a rose in a garbage dump,” as one sportswriter said, but he also fought his own private demons.

In the hands of the award-winning journalist and biographer Mike Stanton, Unbeaten is more than just a boxing story. It’s a classic American tale of immigrant dreams, exceptional talent wedded to exceptional ambitions, compromises in the service of a greater good, astounding success, disillusionment, and a quest to discover what it all meant. Like Suzie Q, it will knock you off your feet.

MANNY PACQUIAO VS. ADRIEN BRONER PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

NEW YORK – November 19, 2018 – Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao and Adrien “The Problem” Broner announced their Saturday, January 19 mega-fight during the first leg of a two-city press tour at New York City’s Gotham Hall on Monday. The welterweight championship showdown will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Boxing’s only eight-division world champion, Pacquiao will end his two-year hiatus from a U.S. boxing ring when he returns to Las Vegas to defend his WBA Welterweight World Title against former four-division world champion and must-see attraction Broner.

Promoted by MP Promotions, Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions in association with About Billions Promotions, tickets to the Pacquiao vs. Broner welterweight world championship event will go on sale on Saturday, November 24. Tickets are priced at $1,500, $1,000, $750, $500, $300, $200, $100, not including applicable service charges, and can be purchased online through AXS.com, charge by phone at 866-740-7711 or in person at any MGM Resorts International box office.

Here are what the fighters and executives had to say on Monday.

MANNY PACQUIAO:

“I just want to prove that I’m still in boxing and my journey in boxing is continuing. I want to entertain people and give a good show on January 19. You don’t want to miss the opportunity to see this great and prestigious fight in the ring with Adrien Broner. I know my opponent is fast and a top caliber fighter, he’s good and we have to work hard and train hard for this fight so the people will be happy. We will give a good fight for the fans.

“I chose Broner because we can have a good fight and entertain the fans. Adrien is a top caliber fighter and a good boxer. We cannot underestimate him.

“When I met up with Floyd [Mayweather] in Japan, we talked and he said he wants to come out of retirement to challenge me. All I know is fighting in the ring and entertaining people. That’s my job. Floyd has come out of retirement and we’ll see after this fight, but we cannot underestimate Broner and this fight. We will discuss anything with Floyd Mayweather after that.

“I can fight at 140 pounds or 147 pounds and I want to fight the biggest fighters in the world and one of those is Adrien Broner. I can fight anybody.

“I expect more action in the ring, that’s what we want. We don’t talk too much outside the ring but we will do it in the ring.

“Yes, I still have the [knock out] power. In fact, I have learned how to develop that and by the grace of god, who has given me this power and with hard work and training, that technique is my weapon for this fight.

“I have already accomplished my dream and what I want to accomplish in this sport. I just want to continue in the top of boxing and give honor to my country.”

ADRIEN BRONER:

“I’m real thankful hearing that he was coming over to PBC, ‘Pacquiao’s Broner Crisis’. I’m happy – there are a lot of people that wanted this fight and god blessed me to get it. I guess I’m just the chosen one. What can I say about Pacquiao, he’s a future Hall of Famer.

“I had to call my momma after I looked in the mirror this morning. I had to let her know she has a beautiful son. We finally made it to pay-per-view at 29. I’m the only African-American do to that.

“It’s going to be a hell of a fight. I’m not coming to just pick up a check. I know when I win this fight, there’s more money to come.

“This fight means a lot to me. A win and I turn legend overnight. I got the whole hood with me just like he has the whole Philippines with him. I don’t even know how to spell that. But I have the whole hood with me: H-O-O-D.

“Of course I consider Manny one of the elite fighters at 147. The things he’s done in this game are unbelievable. I talk trash, I play but I know on January 19 I have to be on top of my game. This is his break-out fight to be on the A-side. I know he isn’t trying to look bad. But I’m here to knock him out. I feel like a bum trying to fight for a sandwich.

“I’m not worried about what Manny does. He has to worry about what I’m doing. I have three losses and he has eight. But he has been knocked out three times so we know he can go to sleep. He doesn’t need Nyquil for that, and I have the power to do it. He better be on his p’s and q’s because I’m trying to knock him out.

“If the knockout comes, it comes. I’m just focused on my win. I’m trying to win in good fashion. I’m going to train my ass off and give it my all.

“This fight is very important from a business standpoint and for About Billions. A lot of young fighters want to work with me and I have to show them the way. As a leader, if I win this fight it gives them something to brag about. I’m not only fighting for me, I’m fighting for my family and my kids. It’s the longevity, it’s for after boxing. I have a chance to set myself up so that my kids’ kids can live comfortably.

“We’re boxers. We’re not afraid of nobody. We bleed the same, we walk the same, we put our pants on one at a time. There’s nothing to be afraid of. I’m trying to knock this guy out. I might laugh, I might play around but I’m trying to get him out of here.

“Every fighter is different. I don’t compare fighters to each other. Every fighter has their good habits and their bad habits. All around, he’s a great fighter. He’s done something that nobody has ever done in the sport but it’s time to turn over a new leaf. Adrien Broner will be the biggest name in boxing.

“I feel good at any weight. I feel strong. I will let everything show January 19. It’s going to be a hell of a fight. I just want to beat the man in great fashion. It’s nothing personal, it’s just for me so I can wake up and say I beat Manny Pacquiao.”

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, President Sports & Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc.

“SHOWTIME is thrilled to be hosting this press conference and to be bringing this matchup of two must-see fighters – there is a very short list of must-see attractions, and of course these two active fighters are on the top of the list.

“Boxing’s only eight-division world champion taking on the youngest boxer ever to be a four-division world champion. We would like to welcome Manny Pacquiao back to SHOWTIME, back to the U.S. as this is his first fight in the U.S. in two years. These two are perennial draws at the box office, ratings, and in the streets. Two of the most well-known, widely recognized boxers in the sport of boxing. Two of the most athletically gifted fighters in the sport – power, speed, quickness, they have it all.

“At this point, odds makers have favored Pacquiao. That’s understandable because he is a Hall of Famer with a Hall of Fame resume. But it would be a mistake to overlook Broner in this fight. Broner never backs down from a challenge. As long as I’ve known him and worked with him he’s never turned down a fight, not against bigger opponents like Shawn Porter, not against big punchers like Marcos Maidana, not against the guys that no one wants to fight. Broner gives them tough fights: 12 rounds against Porter, 12 grueling rounds against Maidana. So for those of you that think this is an easy fight, or easy bet because of the odds, think again. These are two of the most talented fighters of this generation, two of the most athletically gifted fighters of this generation. I guarantee this fight will be a must-see attraction.”

JOE RAMOS, Head of MP Promotions

“This is a fight that we’ve been trying to make for several years. Our new partnership with the great Al Haymon and the PBC has finally made this possible. I’d like to thank Al and his team for making this happen. I’d like to acknowledge our new partners in this fight, Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions, our broadcast partner SHOWTIME and Manny’s home away from home, the MGM Grand. To Team Broner, thanks for stepping up to the plate. I hope you have a great training camp and I wish you all the best. To Senator Manny, thank you for giving all your fans this opportunity to showcase your greatness and show you are still the best fighter in the world.”

LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotions

“This is a huge fight. I can’t say enough about what I personally think will be the biggest fight of 2019. You have Manny Pacquiao, a future Hall of Famer, who’s fought everybody in this era against Adrien Broner, one of the most exciting fighters in the sport. He’s the biggest attraction with the biggest ratings and never shy about the cameras. This will be a great promotion. We expect the fans across the world to tune in to this great event. Will Manny Pacquiao be able to use his plethora of experience to defeat a young Adrien Broner whose still in the prime of his career? Or will Adrien Broner be able to utilize his outstanding speed and his skillset to defeat the legendary Hall of Famer, Manny Pacquiao? Tune in, SHOWTIME PPV on January 19.”

RAVONE LITTLEJOHN, Co-Head of About Billions Promotions

“This is the biggest fight that we’ve been involved with, so I would like to thank everybody involved. Adrien knows what he needs to do. I’ve been with him since we were 18-years-old and we’ve been through a lot. I’ve never seen him back down from anything and anybody who’s watched him fight knows that. We look forward to bringing it and we’re going to bring it. I’m very happy to be in this position and we’re going to go far.”

Perrella Reflects on Vegas training experience; links up with Jesse Reid

Fort Myers, FL (November 19, 2018) – Welterweight contender Bryant “Goodfella” Perrella recently returned from a two week training camp in Las Vegas, NV. Along with head trainer Michael Nowling and strength coach Pat Wilson, Perrella made his presence felt in multiple Sin City gyms.

During his trip, the Fort Myers, FL native sparred and worked out with some of boxing’s best, something Perrella acknowledges he needed to take his career to the next level.

“We’ve wanted to do this for a long time and I’m thrilled my team made this trip a reality. My time in Vegas showed me that I’ve got what it takes to compete with the best and this is the kind of training environment needed to be a top fighter.”

Perrella’s outstanding work ethic and boxing skills created a buzz during gym sessions. The man Perrella left the biggest impact on was none other than legendary trainer Jesse Reid.

“Jesse was on hand for my sparring sessions against a top fighter,” said Perrella. “He told me he was impressed with how I performed and asked how he could help me. We had a great talk and he’ll be joining Team Perrella as a coach. This is an incredible honor because Jesse worked with many of the all-time greats. His boxing brain and presence will have an immediate impact.”

Perrella, 15-2 (13 KO’s), is targeting a return in early 2019 and prefers to do so against a top opponent.

“I’ve only gotten better since the Collazo fight and I went into full beast mode in Vegas. My confidence is at an all-time high and I’m ready to show the world that I’ve taken my career to the next level.”

Washington, D.C. (November 19, 2018) – Tori Nelson will defend her UBF Middleweight world championship against Sanna Turunen in the ten-round co-main event on Saturday night, December 1st at The Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington, D.C.

I am hoping to put on a good show for them, and earn some new fans from DC. I am extremely grateful to the promoters, Erwin Pendergrast and Sean Magruder to give me this opportunity.”

MANNY PACQUIAO RETURNS TO THE U.S. TO DEFEND HIS WBA WELTERWEIGHT WORLD TITLE AGAINST ADRIEN BRONER

NEW YORK – November 19, 2018 – Senator Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, boxing’s only eight-division world champion, will end his two-year hiatus from a U.S. boxing ring when he returns to Las Vegas to defend his World Boxing Association welterweight world title against former four-division world champion and must-see attraction Adrien “The Problem” Broner. The Pacquiao vs. Broner world championship event will take place Saturday, Jan. 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Pacquiao vs. Broner and its co-main event fights will be produced and distributed live by SHOWTIME PPV and presented by Premier Boxing Champions beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Pacquaio is coming off a vintage performance in July where he stopped Argentine slugger and world champion Lucas Matthysse inside seven rounds. Now, Pacquiao returns to the U.S. in his remarkable fourth reign as welterweight world champion. Broner, one of the most talented fighters in boxing, is aiming for his second stint as 147-pound champion. If victorious, Broner also will add a career-defining win against a future Hall of Famer to his already stellar resume.

“I have missed fighting in Las Vegas. It has been a second home to me,” said Pacquiao. “Returning to the MGM Grand Garden Arena to defend my world title against Adrien Broner is an exciting way to stage my homecoming. Adrien is a tough opponent with an accomplished record. But if I have learned one thing while serving in the Philippine Congress and Senate, it is problem solving.”

Broner said, “I have paid my dues in this sport, and now it’s time for me to get mines. I get more views than everybody when I fight. A lot of people are going to see me pack off Pacquiao into retirement, and without his belt.”

Promoted by MP Promotions, Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions in association with About Billions Promotions, tickets to the Pacquiao vs. Broner welterweight world championship event go on sale Saturday, November 24. Tickets are priced at $1,500, $1,000, $750, $500, $300, $200, $100, not including applicable service charges, and can be purchased online through AXS.com, charge by phone at 866-740-7711 or in person at any MGM Resorts International box office.

“Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner are two of the most gifted athletes in boxing today,” said Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports and Event Programming, Showtime Networks Inc. “Both men throw punches with eye-opening speed and carry significant power in both hands. These attributes have made them two of the biggest draws in the sport. Pacquiao is a proven pay-per-view attraction, while Broner has consistently delivered many of the highest-rated boxing events on television. This matchup promises explosive action from bell to bell.”

“MP Promotions is very excited about launching its new relationship with the PBC by presenting Senator Manny’s return to Las Vegas in the first defense of his WBA welterweight world title,” said MP Promotions head Joe Ramos. “Manny has a rich boxing history at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, and he will train hard to keep that title when he battles Adrien Broner on January 19. This will be another opportunity for Manny to add another highlight to his spectacular career and entertain his millions of fans. But more importantly, to prove to the world that he still belongs in the pound-for-pound discussion. It’s going to be a great night for the sport.”

“Mayweather Promotions is looking forward to working with our co-promoters and SHOWTIME to bring this spectacle between Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner to the fans at the top of the year,” said Leonard Ellerbe of Mayweather Promotions. “This is going to be one of the biggest fights of 2019 with Broner looking to defy the odds and shut everyone up when he steps in the ring on fight night. Pacquiao has faced everyone top fighter in this era and is looking to add another signature win to cap off his historic career.”

“This is an intriguing matchup between two highly skilled boxers who provide entertainment every time they step in the ring,” said Tom Brown of TGB Promotions. “Manny Pacquiao is an iconic future Hall of Famer with a resume that includes a Who’s Who of some of the greatest boxers of this generation. Adrien Broner has become must-see TV in winning world titles in four different divisions, and a victory over Pacquiao will move him back into the championship ranks and add luster to an already sterling career.”

Richard Sturm, President of Las Vegas Live Entertainment and Sports for MGM Resorts International, said, “We are excited to host this championship fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena which will kick off another great year of entertainment programming for MGM Resorts. This will be a terrific matchup between two great champions and we look forward to welcoming both of them back to the MGM Grand and Las Vegas.”

A three-time Fighter of the Year and the Boxing Writers Association of America’s reigning Fighter of the Decade, Pacquiao (60-7-2, 39 KOs), who hails from Sarangani Province in the Philippines, is the only sitting Congressman and Senator to win a world title. After serving two terms as Congressman, Pacquiao was elected to a Philippine Senate seat in May 2016, capturing over 16 million votes nationally. Pacquiao’s boxing resume features victories over at least seven current and future Hall of Famers, including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, and Juan Manuel Marquez. In his last fight, with Philippine President Rodrigo R. Duerte and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad in attendance (the first time two heads of state attended a championship boxing event), Pacquaio, 39, regained the welterweight title for a fourth time with a vintage performance on July 15 at Axiata Arena in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, by knocking out defending WBA champion Lucas Matthyssee in the seventh round.

Pacquiao recently had the high honor of speaking to the Oxford Union and the Cambridge Union on the campuses of the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge, respectively, on consecutive days, another historic first in a career of historic firsts for the international sports icon. Pacquiao’s speeches about his life attracted standing room only crowds and huge ovations.

Cincinnati’s Broner (33-3-1, 24 KOs) is a former four-division world title holder and one of boxing’s most popular and colorful personalities. The brash and outspoken 29-year-old has faced some of boxing’s best en route to winning titles at 130, 135, 140 and 147 pounds, including Mikey Garcia, Paulie Malignaggi and Shawn Porter. Broner, who will face his 10th world champion in Pacquiao, scored a draw in his last fight in April on SHOWTIME against former two-division world champion Jessie Vargas.

CANELO ALVAREZ DISCUSSES HIS DESIRE TO BECOME A THREE-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION AS HE PREPARES TO FACE ROCKY FIELDING FOR THE WBA SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD TITLE

SAN DIEGO (Nov. 19, 2018): In a recent visit to his training camp, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) discussed his desire to join a select list of Mexican boxers to become a three-division world champion as he prepares for his 12-round fight against Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for the WBA Super Middleweight World Title. Canelo also shared his excitement at fighting at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the first time. The event will take place Saturday, December 15 and will be streamed live on DAZN – which, at just $9.99 per month after a one-month free trial, means new subscribers to DAZN will enjoy the entire Canelo vs. Rocky fight night for free.

There have only been a few Mexican fighters to become three-division world champions, and this illustrious list includes pugilists such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Erik “El Terrible” Morales, Marco Antonio “The Baby-Faced Assassin” Barrera and Jorge “El Travieso” Arce. If Canelo defeats Fielding and joins this list, he would be the only one to become a three-division world champion in a weight class above 140 pounds.

Canelo had the following to say as he prepares to make his New York City debut. The middleweight king also gave some final thoughts on silencing his detractors in his last fight:

“Like I’ve always said, I’ve always considered myself to be the best and now more so than ever. I’m here because of that and because of that motivation to be the best. To be on the pound for pound list or not-that’s something that neither excites me nor upsets me. I’m just happy with what I’ve done and satisfied with what I am doing.”

“It would be a big landmark in my career to be one of fewer than 10 Mexicans to win a world title in three divisions. It’s a big challenge for us and an important landmark that I want in my career. I feel really happy for us [my team].”

“It fills me with pride to be able to fight at Madison Square Garden. I’ve been wanting to fight there for years. To be in such a place where important people such as Muhammad Ali have fought is another landmark in my career. It is an honor to be at an arena like that.”

“I’ve always said that words aren’t always necessary. I’m a serious person who doesn’t like to be talking or sending out messages to my opponents. I’ve always defined myself as being very serious in what I’m doing. I focus on getting in the ring and giving everything I have.”

“Everything that was said about me and the attacks made against me as a person-well, I demonstrated what I’m really made of in my last fight. That’s the nicest feeling-to be able to shut mouths with facts.”

Canelo vs. Rocky is a 12-round fight for the WBA Super Middleweight World
Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Matchroom Boxing. Lemieux vs. Johnson is a 12-round middleweight fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Eye of The Tiger Management. The event is sponsored by Tecate, “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING,” and Hennessy “Never Stop. Never Settle.” The event will take place Saturday, December 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be streamed live on DAZN.

Tickets for Canelo vs. Rocky are on sale and are priced at $1,000, $500, $300, $200, $150, $100, $75 and $50 plus applicable taxes, fees and services charges. Just 23-years-old, Shields won the IBF and WBC Super Middleweight Championships in August 2017 with a dominant stoppage of Germany’s Nikki Adler. In June of this year and in just her sixth pro fight, she dropped down to 160 pounds and won the IBF and WBA Middleweight titles with an exciting unanimous decision over Hanna Gabriels.

The 28-year old Hermans won the vacant WBO title with a ten-round decision over Nikki Adler on May 12, 2018 in Bayern, Germany. She had previously challenged Alicia Napoleon on March 3, 2018, in Brooklyn, NY for the vacant WBA Super Middleweight World Title, losing a ten-round decision.

Presented by Tom Loeffler’s 360 Boxing Promotions, advance tickets for UNDISPUTED priced at $25, $50, $100 and $150 can be purchased through AXS HERE .The StubHub Center is located at 18400 Avalon Boulevard, Carson, CA 90746. Stated Shields’ Manager Mark Taffet, “Having spent a quarter century at HBO, it will be very meaningful and memorable for me to see Claressa Shields in that ring on December 8. I thank HBO, Tom Loeffler and Salita Promotions for providing this great night and opportunity for Claressa.”

UNDISPUTED is headlined by the Consensus #1 Ranked Women’s Pound-for-Pound Fighter and Undisputed Women’s Welterweight World Champion ‘The First Lady’ Cecilia Braekhus (34-0, 9 KOs),

Magdziak-Lopes also holds a victory over Braekhus’ recent opponent Kali Reis.

Former Men’s #1 Ranked Pound-for-Pound Fighter in the World, Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez, (47-2-0, 39 KOs), of Managua, Nicaragua, clashes with former world champion Pedro ‘Jibran’ Guevara, (32-3-1, 19 KOs), of Sinaloa, Mexico in the televised ten-round super flyweight co-main event.

Topping the non-televised undercard, popular female fighter Louisa ‘Bang Bang Lulu’ Hawton, (8-2-0, 4 KOs), of Perth, Australia will once again face off against Mexico’s Brenda ‘La Bonita’ Flores, (15-4-1, 3 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico in a featured ten-round world title fight rematch. In their memorable first clash, Flores was victorious by split decision on September 8, 2018 at the Forum in Los Angeles. Flores will be defending the WBC Atomweight World Title earned during their first bout.

Marsella Jr. aims for championship glory Wednesday night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Nov. 19th, 2018) — History will be made Wednesday night as Rhode Island’s Anthony Marsella Jr. joins a short, but prestigious, list of area fighters to headline at the region’s premier destination for professional boxing.

In just his 11th fight, Marsella Jr. stars in his first main event, becoming the 26th New England native to headline at Twin River Casino Hotel since the venue first hosted boxing in 2007.

On Thanksgiving Eve, Nov. 21st, Marsella Jr. (10-0, 4 KOs) puts his unbeaten record on the line in an eight-round bout against Mexican challenger Jorge Rodriguez (10-3, 10 KOs) for the vacant International Boxing Association (IBA) Americas Junior Welterweight Title in CES Boxing’s 2018 season finale

Wednesday’s fight is also Marsella Jr.’s first shot at a title, but it won’t come easy; “El Pitbull” Rodriguez, who hails from Nayarit, a small state of roughly 1.18 million in western Mexico, boasts all 10 of his wins by knockout, including five in the opening round.

Tickets for Wednesday’s event start at $47 and are available online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253 or at the Twin River Casino Hotel Players Club, located on the second floor. All fights and fighters subject to change. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. ET and the first fight begins at a special holiday start time of 6:30.

Wednesday’s season-finale will be held in conjunction with the U.S. Marine Toys For Tots. All fans are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to a family in need during the holiday season. In addition, area trainer and Rhode Island boxing icon Chuck Sullivan will be inducted into the prestigious CES Ring of Honor, joining a list that includes Marlon Starling, Rocky Marciano, Gary “Tiger” Balletto, “Irish” Micky Ward and others.

The 23-year-old Marsella Jr. hopes to steal the show and begin his own legacy as a regular headliner at the Twin River Event Center, perhaps one day catching and surpassing the legends who helped turn the venue into the hub of New England boxing.

The all-time leader in Twin River headliners among New England fighters is Peter Manfredo Jr., who starred in the main event seven times, one more than “Mr. Providence” Vladine Biosse. New Hampshire native and Rhode Island resident Rich Gingras headlined five times, followed by Worcester, Mass., junior middleweight Khiary Gray, second on the all-time active leaderboard with four.

The all-time list is an eclectic timeline of Twin River’s most historic events, featuring ring warriors such as Providence’s Joey Spina (three main events), former female world champion Shelley Vincent (3), U.S. Olympian Jason Estrada (2) and New Bedford, Mass., standout Jason Pires (2), all of whom shared top billing at one point or another as a main event headliner.

Marsella Jr.’s road to the top of the card began with his first bout at Twin River in 2016. Since then, he’s fought at the venue eight times within the last two years, highlighted by a back-and-forth split decision win over the tough Ricardo Maldonado in May and a thorough victory over regional rival Brandon Berry of Maine in September.

Where will Marsella Jr. rank on the list when all is said and done? Only time will tell. For now, he’s focused on the task at hand, which is putting the finishing touches on a celebratory Thanksgiving Eve event that also features the return of Sicilian heavyweight Juiseppe Cusumano (16-2, 14 KOs), Worcester middleweight Kendrick Ball Jr. (10-1-2, 7 KOs), plus a highly-anticipated female bantamweight rematch between Rhode Island’s Karen Dulin (3-15, 1 KO) and Boston’s Amanda Pavone (5-0, 2 KOs). The two fought in June with Pavone winning by split decision.

Cusumano faces Vero Beach, Fla., vet Michael Marrone (21-9, 14 KOs) in the six-round co-main event. Marrone, a former WBC Youth heavyweight and WBA World cruiserweight title challenger, steps in on four days’ notice to replace Maurice Byarm, who was denied a license in Rhode Island. The 6-foot-4 right-hander aims for his second consecutive victory after winning 13 consecutive bouts between 2012 and 2018.

Ball Jr. returns to Twin River for the first time since last December to face Zain Shah (6-3, 3 KOs), who was born in Pakistan and now fights out of New York City, in a six-round bout. Shah returns to the ring for the first time since 2015 when he defeated 33-fight vet Ryan Davis by unanimous decision. In his last Twin River appearance, Ball Jr. stopped Alshamar Johnson in the final round of their scheduled six-round bout. In August, he fought for the first time in his hometown, knocking out Fabian Valdez at The Palladium in Worcester.

The 2018 season featured a major roster overhaul for CES Boxing, which signed several new prospects, most of whom debuted in September. Three of those rising stars return Wednesday to highlight the undercard, plus two additional New England prospects make their Twin River and Rhode Island debuts.

Fresh off a first-round knockout win in his professional debut in September, former University of Miami football and basketball star Raphael Akpejiori (1-0, 1 KO) returns to face newcomer James Advincola, fighting out of the Big Six Boxing Academy, in a four-round heavyweight bout. With former two-time world champion and head trainer Glen Johnson working his corner, Akpejiori stopped Omar Acosta in 59 seconds two months ago to earn his first pro win.

Providence junior middleweight Victor Reynoso (1-0, 1 KO) and Worcester super lightweight Nick Briggs (1-0, 1 KO), who also debuted with victories in September, return Wednesday. Reynoso faces veteran Carlos Galindo (1-6) of Peru while Briggs battles Virginia’s Stacey Anderson (0-3), both in four-round bouts. Reynoso flattened Maurilio Alavain September and Briggs took down Jacob Wright, both occurring in the opening round.

Fighting at Twin River for the first time, Providence super lightweight Davhon Shelton (1-0) and junior middleweight Lamont Powell(1-0) of nearby Pawtucket round out Wednesday’s undercard.

Powell faces newcomer Marcos Rosa of Woburn, Mass., by way of Brazil, and Shelton faces fellow Providence native Cido Hoff (1-2) in a four-round intrastate showdown that could steal the spotlight. Hoff returns for the first time since a narrow majority decision loss to Matt Doherty in June of 2017.

The Dulin-Pavone rematch is another Fight of the Night candidate. Dulin hasn’t fought at Twin River since 2011, but returned to boxing in March following a five-year layoff to defeat Jillian DiAuto. In the first fight against Pavone, Dulin earned a 58-56 score on judge Mary Freitas’ card, but judges Martha Tremblay and Mike Nolan scored it 58-56 in favor of Pavone.

NIELSEN CHALLENGES NGABU FOR EUROPEAN TITLE

Micki Nielsen (25-1, 15 KOs) will challenge Yves Ngabu (19-0, 14 KOs) for the European Cruiserweight title on February 16 at the Eventhal Schiervelde in Roeselare, Belgium.

Nielsen has landed a golden opportunity to claim Euro glory having been named mandatory challenger for Ngabu’s belt, but can expect a tough task, travelling away from home to meet the undefeated champion in his backyard.

Ngabu claimed the European title with a fourth-round stoppage win over Tomas Ladi in April 2017, and recorded his first defence in similarly empathic fashion, forcing Geoffrey Battelo to retire in the third-round in January this year.

“I’m very happy to get the chance to fight for the European title,” said Nielsen. “This is a big opportunity for me and I will do everything possible to bring the belt home to Denmark.

“I know Ngabu is a tough fighter and a strong champion but I believe I can beat him. I’m not worried about going to Belgium and fighting in front of his supporters. A ring is a ring, and when the bell goes, it will be just me and him.

“I’ve never backed down from a challenge and I’ve never turned down a fight. Ngabu should be ready for war because that’s what I’m bringing!”

Promoter Nisse Sauerland is backing his fighter to get the job done in Belgium.

“Throughout his career, we’ve only seen glimpses of Micki’s true potential,” he says. “But on February 16, it’s his time to shine. Yves Ngabu is a good fighter but he’s never met anyone with Micki’s strength and ability before.”

GORMAN LEAPS UP IN LEVELS TO FACE ALEX LEAPAI

Nathan Gorman will defend his WBC International Silver heavyweight title against former World Title challenger Alex Leapai on the bumper Josh Warrington-Carl Frampton card at the Manchester Arena on December 22.

The unbeaten Gorman is causing quite a stir in heavyweight circles, with the Ricky Hatton-trained 22-year-old having now clocked up 14 fights, with 11 wins coming via stoppage.

The Nantwich-born former Team GB member won his WBC belt in late 2017 when he took on the also then unbeaten Mohamed Soltby at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle, stopping the German after five bruising rounds.

He has since kept busy with three fights already across 2018, with the pick of the wins coming against the rated Irishman, Sean ‘Big Sexy’ Turner at the Manchester Arena, where he turned up the heat and ended the resistance of Turner inside of three rounds.

Gorman appears to be on a longer-term collision course with UK rival Daniel Dubois, but his next opponent hails from the Southern Hemisphere, with Leapai based in Queensland, Australia but originally from Samoa.

The 39-year-old holds a record of 32-7-4 across a career spanning 18 years. His professional exploits earned him a shot at the unified world titles in 2014, taking on the long-term champion Wladimir Klitschko in Oberhausen, but his world title adventure was aborted in the fifth round against the then dominant Ukrainian.

He subsequently demonstrated his durability the full ten rounds against Malik Scott and Manuel Charr before getting back amongst the wins over 2017-18 with victories in his homeland over Thomas Peato and Roger Izonritei.

Gorman believes he will have to be on top of his game to see off the challenge of such a seasoned opponent.

“Obviously he is a very experienced opponent who has fought for world titles. He is a dangerous opponent, but also a good one for me, if that makes sense.

“He will be a good name on my record if I beat him and beat him in style, which I believe I can do. I will have to be on my As and Bs because he is a dangerous fella with such experience. Some people say heavyweights are in their prime when they reach their late thirties.”

Gorman added that, while his own objectives will always remain first and foremost in his thinking, securing a slot on such a massive BT Box Office card is a big attraction.

“Definitely, it is a very big bill to be a part of and obviously I have got a good fight against Alex Leapai that has got me on the show.”

Leapai himself firmly believes Gorman is jumping the gun by signing up for such a test at this stage of his career, considering this country’s bright young heavies to be over-hyped and untested at a higher level.

“A lot of these British heavyweights are over-hyped without really beating anyone,” said the confident Aussie. “I’m coming over to burst the bubble of the latest hype job.

“I’ve had more knockouts than Nathan has had fights. This is way too soon for Nathan.”

IBF world featherweight champion Josh Warrington takes on former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd live on BT Sport Box Office. Mark Heffron and Liam Williams contest the vacant British middleweight title and Belfast’s blue chip featherweight prospect Michael Conlan (9-0) takes on former commonwealth champion Jason Cunningham (24-5).

Elsewhere on the bill. world flyweight title challenger Paddy Barnes (5-1) and unbeaten Light Heavyweight contender Steven Ward (9-0) return to action. Manchester’s 12-0 Light Heavyweight Lyndon Arthur and 7-0 Darlington middleweight Troy Williamson also return.

Tickets are priced at £50 Upper Tier, £80 Tier, £100 Tier, £150 Tier, £200 Floor/Tier, £300 Floor, £400 Floor, £600 Inner Ring VIP Hospitality and are available.

Tickets available via Manchester Arena.

BUGLIONI: A WIN ON SATURDAY WILL RE-ESTABLISH ME IN THE LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT DIVISION

Frank Buglioni says a win over Fanlong Meng will re-establish him as one of the biggest threats in the Light-Heavyweight division.

‘Wise Guy’ takes on undefeated Meng for the IBF Inter-Continental Light-Heavyweight title at the Casino de Monte-Carlo this Saturday, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Chinese amateur star Meng, touted by man as one of the best boxers in China, has racked up 13 straight wins since turning professional in 2015, picking up the WBO Oriental and IBF Inter-Continental titles along the way.

However, Buglioni feels the former Chinese National Champion is yet to be tested in the paid code and is confident of taking the IBF ranking belt back to Enfield with him on Sunday morning.

“I have a very tough test in Fanlong Meng,” admitted Buglioni. “He’s a 2012 Olympian and has a solid amateur record. As a professional I don’t think he has been tested much yet, so this will be his acid test. I’m looking forward to upsetting the party and taking his belt and his undefeated record.

“Meng likes to keep things at his own pace and keep his opponents at range, but I’ll be constantly moving and creating angles. I’m fitter and sharper than I’ve ever been and he won’t be able to keep me off all night.

“Throughout my career I’ve always done well against southpaws and I’ve always enjoyed fighting and sparring them, be it amateur or pro, and my record against them is very good. I’m heading into the fight with a lot of confidence.”

Former World title challenger Buglioni has been busy rebuilding in the gym and sees Saturday’s fight as a golden opportunity to fire his name back into World title contention once more.

“The Light-Heavyweight division is buzzing and a good win over Meng will re-establish me as one of the top guys out there. A win would certainly put me back at the top of the pile domestically and possibly Europe too, I won’t be far off World level.

“I’m very pleased with my progress since the Callum Johnson defeat. I’ve built upon the mistakes I made in that fight and I’m looking forward to putting on a real show and proving myself once again.

“I’ve had some fantastic sparring all throughout this camp including James DeGale. I’ve made some massive improvements in the gym and I think that has been due to such good quality sparring. The guys I have worked with have kept me on my toes really put it on me.”

Buglioni’s British title reign was ended by a shock first-round stoppage loss to Callum Johnson at The O2 in March. Johnson’s victory was swiftly rewarded with a shot at IBF Light-Heavyweight Champion Artur Beterbiev.

Johnson’s brave World title attempt ended in a fourth-round KO but Buglioni believes the Lincolnshire man was just moments away from being crowned a World Champion and has taken confidence from his rival’s performance.

“I think Callum was very unlucky against Bertebiev,” added Buglioni. “I don’t think he realised how much he hurt him in the second round. When he caught him with that shot, Bertebiev’s legs weren’t there. If Callum has jumped on him then he’d be a World Champion right now.

“Callum proved that the guys at the top of the domestic scene can mix it at World level. They just need to have the belief in themselves and give it everything they have. I’m fully focused on Fanlong Meng but I know what a win could lead to.

“A shot at a World title is the dream and you never know what is around the corner, I just need to keep on winning. I’d love a shot at any of the World Champions, but I like fighting southpaws and if an opportunity to fight Adonis Stevenson arises then why not?”

Buglioni’s clash with Meng is part of a huge night of action in Monaco.

Main event sees dangerous Russian Denis Lebedev defend his WBA Cruiserweight World title against undefeated American Mike Wilson.

WBA Super-Flyweight World Champion Kal Yafai aims to maintain his undefeated record when he makes the fourth defence of his crown against Mexico’s former World title challenger Israel Gonzalez.

Fresh from a shock win over highly-touted Heavyweight prospect Martin Bakole, America’s Michael Hunter steps in to face Russia’s Alexander Ustinov and Kazakhstan’s Rio Olympic gold medallist Daniyar Yeleussinov faces Marcos Mojica in his fifth professional contest.

Granite Chin Promotion presents Thanksgiving Eve show “Championship Boxing at The Armory”

QUINCY, Mass. (November 19, 2018) – A major change has been made to this Wednesday night’s (Nov. 21) “Championship Boxing at The Armory” card, presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP) on Thanksgiving Eve, at the National Guard Armory (70 Victory Road) in Dorchester, Massachusetts.

The originally scheduled headliner, three-time world title challenger Aleksandra Magziak Lopes (18-4-3, 1 KO), withdrew when she accepted a world title shot Dec. 8 in Carson, California, against undisputed World welterweight champion Cecelia “First Lady” Braekhus (34-0, 9 KOs) in the main event on HBO.

Many of New England’s most talented and popular boxers will still be in action this Wednesday evening. GCP co-promoter Chris Traietti (26-4, 21 KOs), fighting out of Quincy (MA), will defend his New England cruiserweight title against challenger Nick Lavin (5-9, 4 KOs), of Shelton (CT), in the new eight-round main event.

The 33-year-old Traietti, an Irag War veteran and college graduate, defeated the heavy-handed Lavin by way of an eight-round unanimous decision August 5, 2017 for the N.E. title.

“As disheartening as it was to lose Aleks on this show,” Traietti said, “we are thrilled she’s getting a career defining opportunity on HBO. She’s worked hard for the opportunity and we wish her the best of luck December 8th.

“We shuffled some of the bouts around and moved my fight to the main event. Last time we fought, Nick showed up and gave me eight tough rounds. I have no doubt he’s going to deliver a similar performance. Overall, we are excited about this card as it features a mix of local veterans and prospects. FRAMPTON EYES HALL OF FAME, BELIEVES WARRINGTON IS MADE FOR HIM

CARL FRAMPTON believes unifying the World Featherweight title could make him Ireland’s greatest ever fighter and on course to fulfil his Hall of Fame dream.

The two weight world champion will take a step in that direction is he takes the IBF World Featherweight crown from Josh Warrington (27-0) at Manchester Arena on Saturday December 22, live on BT Sport Box Office.

The winner is likely to line up a unification fight against WBO title holder Oscar Valdez next spring or early summer.

Frampton (26-1) has already unified world titles at Super-Bantamweight when he defeated Scott Quigg in February 2016 becoming IBF and WBA champion at 122lb.

He said: “If I unify at featherweight I will have done it in two divisions and I would be in the argument for Ireland’s greatest fighter.

“I want to do that and define my legacy.

“I would like to have a go at Super-Featherweight. I haven’t got the dimensions to go too many divisions up, but I can maybe tackle Super-Featherweight.

“Myself and Steve Collins are Ireland’s only two-weight World champions. If you become a champion in a third weight division, that is Hall of Fame stuff.

“I’d love to be in the Hall of Fame. I’m still a bit off, but I would love to win a few more big fights and get a call one day saying; ‘You’ve been inducted.’”

Making history and securing family future are Frampton’s motivation, but he is also fired up by Warrington’s comments that he has seen better days as a boxer.

“I believe I’m in my peak years. Josh thinks I’m probably over the hill and on the way down, but he has got it wrong definitely,” snapped the 31-year-old Belfast man.

“My family is one motivation because I want security for me, my wife and the kids. Legacies are another and the third is people saying I’m over the hill – that is a big motivating factor.

“I use all these things to my advantage and I think I will. I’ll do it on the night. I promise I’ll win. Josh is made for me and I will prove I’m a better fighter.”

IBF world featherweight champion Josh Warrington takes on former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd live on BT Sport Box Office. Mark Heffron will now fight WBO Interim world title challenger Liam Williams in support of the main event, while Belfast’s blue chip featherweight prospect Michael Conlan (9-0) will take on former commonwealth champion Jason Cunningham (24-5) along with world flyweight title challenger Paddy Barnes (5-1) and unbeaten Light Heavyweight contender Steven Ward (9-0) also featuring.

In another middleweight addition, 7-0-1 Darlington Middleweight Troy ‘Trojan’ Williamson has also been added to the show after his thrilling draw with Jack Flatley earlier this year.

Tickets are priced at £50 Upper Tier, £80 Tier, £100 Tier, £150 Tier, £200 Floor/Tier, £300 Floor, £400 Floor, £600 Inner Ring VIP Hospitality and are available.

Good for Maurice Hooker, good for boxing

By Bart Barry-

Friday night in Oklahoma, Saturday morning east of there, undefeated Dallas junior welterweight Maurice Hooker successfully defended his WBO title by stopping Mexican-Oklahoman Alex Saucedo in the seventh round of a wonderfully violent contest on ESPN. If it’s tempting to write each man’s stature was improved by the contest it is also inaccurate. Hooker took the left side of Saucedo’s face, with righthands, then Saucedo’s fighting spirit in a masterful assault

He also collected a large purse, acquiesced to the event’s promoter, comporting himself nobly as the b-side, then beat the a-side’s ass. That’s a blueprint for how to thrive in this, our newly re-balkanized and suddenly wealthy sport. Hooker got $1.2 million to defend an obscure 140-pound title round midnight on a Friday, which is way more than he’d’ve made a couple years ago. His copromoters may not have had a cashout in mind when they let Top Rank win the purse bid, but they also may not have expected what happened either. Top Rank sure didn’t.

“Cost-of-doing-business,” one imagines Bob Arum and others to’ve said while creating Saturday’s contract; “we’ll pay-up for Saucedo’s title then control the division, whatever happens.”

Now DAZN’s Eddie Hearn, the solvent one among Hooker’s copromoters, has an admired titlist and a committed platform and a dumptruck of cash with which to build an enticing mate for whoever wins WBSS’ super lightweight tourney. Enviable.

Top Rank, meanwhile, has a chastened contender in Saucedo, a man who has reached his ceiling quite a bit lower than planned. Saucedo appeared like no one Friday night so much as his 17-year-old self, the offensively minded kid who tasted punches aplenty in El Paso’s Sun Bowl when for the first time in his four-prizefight career he happened on an opponent he couldn’t hurt quickly. Perhaps historians someday will regard Maurice Hooker as the best counterpuncher in a generation and Friday will become retroactively sensible – Alex had nothing to be ashamed of getting boiled and iced by an alltime great – but that is not probable. An explanation that ages better might be: Hooker exploited Saucedo’s evidently nonevident defense and hit him more than any chin might withstand.

Saucedo’s chin was Friday’s antagonist, as he took a remarkable number of blows from a man who knows how – a defensive style henceforth known as The Abel. Previously misnamed “Mexican Style” by a Kazakh, misnamed because Salvador Sanchez and Juan Manuel Marquez wouldn’t recognize it, The Abel is where you eliminate a fighter’s head movement, beseech him attack an opponent like a heavybag, and leave every defensive responsibility to his chin.

Each defensive style has its susceptibilities, of course. The Philly Shell, for instance, can be solved by a great jab; The Lock leaves a man open to uppercuts. The Abel is unique in that it relies not so much on what an opponent does but who an opponent is. The Abel requires sympathetic matchmaking to prevail. An example of a scenario wherein The Abel worked exquisitely well was putting a career welterweight in a match with a career middleweight (putting that same middleweight in with a career junior middleweight or middleweight, of course, was less advisable). The Abel is practiced in bars and prison yards round the world but named after its vocalest proponent, Abel Sanchez, a man who sits beside Andre Berto atop the HBO-made Boxing Personalities list.

Years ago, when the flaws in Alex Saucedo’s craft became apparent, a hunt began for a trainer who could cut, sand and lacquer them away. Saucedo was young enough to reform. If Sanchez isn’t exactly the wrong man for that job he’s a workable imitation of the man who was. Rather than fix Saucedo’s defective instrumentation Sanchez plugged Saucedo in, jiltknobbed the amp and told him to wail away.

What resulted was not so much offense-as-defense but offense-or-unconsciousness. Saucedo had no transition Friday; while Hooker was many things Saucedo was binary – either hitting or being hit. Hooker might’ve won 12-0 with his jab alone but couldn’t help himself, took chances, and properly deleted the official scorekeepers’ roles.

There was a moment in round 2, however, when it appeared injustice might be served and Saucedo’s binary commitment to offense might be rewarded another night. He dropped Hooker early with a partially missed cross, and you wondered if The Abel mightn’t be in for a title run at 140 pounds like its run at 160. As Hooker is a career junior welterweight, though, those hopes got canceled a minute later when Hooker thrashed Saucedo through the round’s final minute.

There was another moment, or actually 2 1/2 minutes of them, in round 6, when Hooker retreated to the ropes and let Saucedo punch him like a heavybag. As it happened it looked so intentional on Hooker’s part to make the cynical among us wonder how very much cash might’ve been in Hooker’s cashout package. Or maybe Saucedo’s attack was that devastate fatiguing? No and no. Rather, it turns out, Hooker was metering the dissipation of Saucedo’s power like the battery icon a couple inches northeast of where you read these words. Once Hooker sensed Saucedo’s punches were diminished to breakeven Hooker went for it, knowing he could land 10 flush for every one of Saucedo’s. He was right, too. Hooker beat down a hardpunching, granitechinned Mexican in his adopted hometown and stopped him seven rounds in, gloriously.

Saucedo will return; he’s young and fights charismatic enough to fill a Margarito-sized hole in Top Rank’s roster. But Hooker is the real story and a welcome addition to our beloved sport’s rapidly and radically changing ecosystem.

Yunusov stops Salinas in seven to remain undefeated

Bethlehem, PA (November 18, 2018) –This past Friday night, Three-time Olympian Anvar Yunusov remained perfect by stopping Jose Salinas in the 7th round of their scheduled eight-round junior lightweight bout the headlined a nine-bout card at
The Sands Bethlehem Event Center.

The show was promoted by King’s Promotions.

Yunusov, who competed in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics for his native country Tajikistan, dominated the action, and finally broke Salinas down in the 7th frame.

With the win, Yunusov, who now resides in Philadelphia has a record of 6-0 with three knockouts.

Salinas of Las Cruces, New Mexico falls to 10-4-1.

“We are thrilled with Anvar’s performance. Salinas had fought and defeated some credible opponents, and Anvar fought very well, and we are excited for what 2019 will hold for him,” said Marshall Kauffman of King’s Promotions.

In the co-feature, debuting Jeffrey Torres thrilled his hometown fans with a four-round unanimous decision over Steven Lopez in a bantamweight contest.

Torres of Bethlehem is 1-0. Lopez of Philadelphia is 0-3.

Big heavyweight, Michael Coffie remained undefeated by stopping veteran Jamaal Woods.

Despite his record, Woods was game, but the 277 pound Coffie was too much and finally got his foe out of there at 2:50 in the 4th frame.

Coffie of Brooklyn is 6-0 with five knockouts. Woods of Forest City, Arkansas is 18-44-7.

Joseph George took a six-round unanimous decision from Josue Obando in a light heavyweight bout.

George of Houston is now 8-0. Obando of Mexico gave a good effort, but is now 16-25-1.

Christian Montano needed just 2:05 of the 1st round to take out Paul Holley in their scheduled six-round cruiserweight bout.

Montano scored three knockdowns, with the final coming from a hard body shot.

Montano of Houston is 8-0 with seven knockouts. Holley falls to 6-2-1.

Alejandro Jimenez remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Desmond Moore in a battle of previously undefeated bantamweights.

Jimenez of New Hope, PA is 4-0. Moore of Allentown, PA is 1-1-1.

Good looking bantamweight prospect Yeuri Andujar made it two straight stoppage victories with a 1st round stoppage over debuting Haziz Self of Philadelphia.

Andujar of Reading, PA is 2-0 with both wins coming early.

In a fight heavyweight conetst featuring previously undefeated light heavyweight, Travis Toledo took an entertaining four-round majority decision over Kendall Cannida.

Both guys had their moments in the spirited brawl, but it was Toledo who came away with the victory to raise his mark to 3-0. Cannida of Philadelphia drops to 2-1.

Vincent Floyd used two 1st round knockdowns to catapult himself to a four-round unanimous decision over Ricky Nuno in a welterweight clash.

Nuno made a great effort after the 1st round, but he dug himself too far of a hole to catch Floyd.

Floyd of Philadelphia is 4-5-1. Nuno of Bethlehem is 2-2.

KING’S PROMOTIONS RETURNS TO THE 2300 ARENA IN PHILADELPHIA ON FRIDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 7TH WITH BRANDON ROBINSON TAKING ON KALVIN HENDERSON IN THE MAIN EVENT.

TOP WELTERWEIGHT PROSPECT JARON ENNIS ELECTRIFIES HOMETOWN CROWD WITH DEVASTATING SECOND-ROUND KNOCKOUT OF RAYMOND SERRANO IN MAIN EVENT OF SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION FRIDAY ON SHOWTIME®

PHILADELPHIA (November 17, 2018) – Undefeated welterweight Jaron Ennis electrified his hometown crowd with a devastating second-round knockout of Raymond Serrano in the main event of ShoBox: The New Generation in front of a standing-room only crowd at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia. Watch the knockout here: https://s.sho.com/2TlRIDm

The main event of the telecast – which featured five ShoBox veterans and three fighters who call Philadelphia home – did not last long. The battle-tested Serrano (24-6, 10 KOs), whose six professional losses have come against opponents with a combined fight night record of 111-1-1, proved to be no match for Ennis. The flashy southpaw with a deadly combination of speed and power scored three highlight reel knockdowns in round two, and capped off the night with an explosive uppercut to the jaw. The 21-year-old Ennis (22-0, 20 KOs) has now knocked out 12 consecutive opponents and has proven his worth as one of boxing’s brightest prospects.

“It was a good fight, I was just in there having fun,” said Ennis, who is trained by his father Bozy. “My dad said to start touching the body and that set up the big shots. That’s exactly what I did.

“I knew after the first knockdown, the fight was over. He’s a good fighter and it looks good to have his name on my resume. I’m ready for anybody in my division. I will knock any of them out.”

Ennis wouldn’t speculate if he was the best prospect in the U.S. “I don’t like to talk,” he said. “I do my talking in the ring.”

In the middle bout of the tripleheader, Philadelphia’s Sam Teah (14-2-1, 7 KOs) energized the hometown crowd by putting in a dominating performance en route to a unanimous decision (79-73 and 77-75 twice) over Chicago’s Kenneth Sims Jr. (13-2-1, 4 KOs). Click HERE for the highlights.

Cheered on by chants of his nickname “Tsunami”, the 31-year-old Teah utilized his jab and set the pace throughout the eight rounds. Executing a clever game plan, Teah beat the volume-punching Sims at his own game as he averaged nearly 86 punches per round to Sims’ 59. After an even first two rounds, Teah began to pull away, as he landed 164 punches to just 91 for Sims in rounds three through eight. Teah grew stronger throughout the fight, and put the contest out of question in the final two rounds as he out-landed Sims, 53-28.

“Oh my goodness, this feels great,” said an overjoyed Teah. “This is my biggest stage. I’ve fought on SHOWTIME several times but now I’m at home in front of my friends and family and the energy was amazing. Body shots and uppercuts; that was the game plan. I had more in my arsenal to show tonight. My head might look like an acorn by tomorrow, but it’s worth it.

“I’m asking for the biggest fights,” he continued. “This is what I asked for. Let’s level up and whatever’s biggest next, let’s do it.”

Unified 154-pound world champion Jarrett Hurd, of Accokeek, Md., was in attendance at the jam-packed 2300 Arena and spoke to SHOWTIME’s Steve Farhood about his upcoming bout with Jason Welborn. Hurd returns to the ring to defend his IBF and WBA titles on the Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury SHOWTIME PPV event on December 1 in Los Angeles in his first fight since undergoing rotator cuff surgery. Watch the interview here: https://s.sho.com/2Fti97o

In the telecast opener, undefeated Ukrainian prospect Arnold Khegai (14-0-1, 9 KOs) kept his unbeaten record intact with a hotly contested unanimous decision win over New Brunswick, N.J. native Jorge Diaz (19-6-1, 10 KOs), who announced his retirement immediately following the fight. The judges scored the fight 79-72, 77-74 twice. Click HERE for highlights.

Khegai, known for his aggressive come-forward style, stayed true to his reputation by pressing the action early. Despite suffering a cut over his left eye after an accidental clash of heads in the fourth round, Khegai was more accurate in all phases while Diaz’s activity made the fight competitive throughout the first five rounds. Khegai dazed Diaz in the fifth with a big left hook and followed it up by scoring the only knockdown of the fight in the sixth, landing a combination that forced Diaz to a knee. Tied at 122 total connects after seven rounds, Khegai clinched the fight with a huge eighth and final round where he landed 31 power punches to just 13 for Diaz.

“I’m very excited to get the win against a very uncomfortable fighter,” said Khegai through an interpreter. “He was tough and I had to stick to my game plan. He was doing different things and leaning in with his head. My main idea was to win the fight and I tried to get the knockout.

“I think I can fight a top 15 fighter next time and someday win a world title. Of course, it’s important to look good on SHOWTIME, but it’s even more important to have a good fight in America and to get the win. That’s what is most important.”

Diaz showed toughness and grit throughout the fight. “I am done. I am retiring,” he said. “I have so much more to do and accomplish in life. I gave it my all in rounds seven and eight. I got caught with a body shot in the last round and that’s when he jumped on me. I think he won because of the last round.”

Tonight’s tripleheader was promoted by Victory Promotions in association with Hard Hitting Promotions.

The full telecast will replay on Monday, November 19 at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME and will be available on SHOWTIME ANYTIME® and SHOWTIME on DEMAND®.

Barry Tompkins called the action from ringside with boxing analyst and historian Steve Farhood and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer was Gordon Hall with Chuck McKean producing and Rick Phillips directing.

EDWARDS CHALLENGES ROSALES FOR WBC FLYWEIGHT CROWN

Charlie Edwards will challenge Cristofer Rosales for the WBC World Flyweight Championship on the undercard of Dillian Whyte vs. Derek Chisora 2 at The O2 in London on December 22, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and DAZN in the US.

Edwards has already challenged for a World title when he met John Riel Casimero for the IBF Flyweight crown, gamely taking the talented Filipino ten rounds in London in September 2016. The 25-year-old has racked up five straight wins since his first professional defeat and is ready to seize his second shot at World title glory.

Powerful Nicaraguan Roasales stopped Daigo Higa to claim the vacant WBC World title in Japan before destroying hometown hero Paddy Barnes in four rounds at Windsor Park in August, and now the 24-year-old plans on silencing The O2 by delivering another devastating performance on December 22.

“I’m delighted to get a shot at the WBC World Flyweight title and I won’t be wasting this opportunity,” said Edwards. “I’ve come on a lot since the Casimero defeat and I’ll show that on December 22 by taking the WBC Flyweight World title home with me.

“I’ve mixed it with a two-weight, legit World champion and it’s done me the World of good. I’ve come on in leaps and bounds since then and I can’t wait to step up to that level again.

“Rosales is a tough man but he’s beatable and we’re already working on a game-plan. I’m heading into this fight with the experience of already challenging for a World title and that will benefit me greatly.

“My first shot at a World title was a huge gamble but this time I’m ready and I’ll be bringing that belt home with me. I’m in this sport to take on the best and December 22 will be my first World title win of many.”

“This is a great fight and huge opportunity for Charlie to win the WBC title,” said Eddie Hearn. “We saw Rosales’ devastating KO over Paddy Barnes this summer and he has become an impressive Champion. Charlie will have the London crowd behind him as he looks to make history on a huge night of boxing.”

ROSADO: I WON’T LET ARIAS RUN FROM ME

Gabriel Rosado has pleaded with Luis Arias to go to war on Saturday night as they clash in a must-win Middleweight battle at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, KS, live on DAZN.

Tickets are on sale now from ticketmaster.com starting at just $25! Click here to book!

Rosado and Arias can lay claim to challenging the World champions in 2019 with victory in Kansas, and Arias has promised to KO Rosado to bounce back from his sole pro defeat against Daniel Jacobs last November.

Jacobs was crowned as the new IBF champion the day that Arias and Rosado met in a press conference for this weekend’s clash in October, joining Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Demetrius Andrade as rulers at 160lbs.

Rosado has twice challenged for World Middleweight titles and after over a year out of action, the Philadelphia ace wants a show-stealing and fan-friendly fight with Arias to show he’s ready for a third crack at the big prize.

“He ran in his last fight, remember that,” said Rosado. “He doesn’t know what he’s got coming. I like that all the Middleweight titles are with DAZN – congratulations to Demetrius Andrade for his win, that’s a fight I’d love, Daniel Jacobs too and Canelo – I want to smash this clown and then meet the top Middleweights.

“It’s been a long time since my last fight but in that time, I’ve been able to re-group, focus, get back with my original trainer and I’m looking forward to this opportunity. Luis has said a lot about my losses, but win, lose or draw, everybody respects me.

“I don’t know Luis personally, I guess he feels he has to hype himself up. I’ve fought the best, but not only that, I’ve fought them back to back to back, champion after champion. You have to put that into perspective, that’s a hard schedule for anybody, that level of competition.

“I took some time off and I’m healthy, strong and you are going to see a wiser, smarter Gabe Rosado that’s still hungry. I’m not worried about him wearing a mask or talking about bets, it’s a business and it’s a fight.

“Everybody has their path and that was mine. I’ve never had that promoter behind me saying ‘let’s push Gabe Rosado, let’s protect him and build him up to become World champion’. I was thrown to the wolves and being the man I am, I take these fights, I’m not supposed to turn anything down but my collar.

“Through all those tough fights I was able to gain knowledge – it’s either going to make or break you. I think most fighters would be broken by now and would have hung them up, but you see me in the Martin Murray fight, I looked good. I controlled the pace against Glen Tapia and I am going to keep that momentum going and you will see a skilled Gabe Rosado.”

Rosado’s clash with Arias is part of a huge night of action in Kansas in association with KO Night Boxing with a host of stars and local talents in action.

Brooklyn’s Heavyweight star Jarrell Miller meets fellow unbeaten big-hitter Bogdan Dinu in a crunch clash at the top level of the division, while chief-support provided by the brilliant two-weight World ruler Claressa Shields who looks to add the WBC Middleweight strap to her WBA and IBF crowns against tough Scottish challenger Hannah Rankin.

There’s an all-Mexican clash and a homecoming for Brandon Rios against Ramon Alvarez, brother of ‘Canelo’’, as both men look to make a splash at Welterweight.

Team USA 2016 Olympic bronze medal man Nico Hernandez has raced to 5-0 (4KOs) – the Wichita talent fights for the third time in the Kansas Star Casino and Arena since debuting there in March 2017, unbeaten Wichita Super-Middleweight and police officer Manny Thompson looks to improve his 7-0 record and Las Vegas’ Jeremy Nichols meets Wichita’s Jeremiah Page at Middleweight.

Unbeaten contender Anthony Sims Jr. makes a move to Super-Middleweight and Brooklyn’s exciting newcomer to the Middleweight scene Nikita Ababiy, fresh from a first round KO on debut in Chicago earlier in the month, is also in action.
