UZBEKISTAN OLYMPIAN HEAVYWEIGHT PROSPECT BAKHODIR JALOLOV DEMOLISHES FOE INSIDE OPENING ROUND IN HIS NEW YORK DEBUT ON BROADWAY BOXING AT BROOKLYN’S KINGS THEATRE

Brooklyn, NY (9/30/18) – DiBella Entertainment celebrated its 15-Year Anniversary of Broadway Boxing on Saturday night by teaming up with fellow New York based promoters The Real Deal Boxing and Uprising Promotions for a stacked card of New York City’s most promising prospects at the legendary Kings Theatre in Brooklyn in front of an energetic and near capacity crowd.

The bouts were shown live at DBE’s streaming home, LIVE.DBE1.com. Saturday’s Broadway Boxing was presented by Nissan of Queens, Azad Watches, OPTYX, Christos Steak House, Gagliardi Insurance, Venum and Medical Arts Radiology.

The evening concluded with 2016 Uzbekistan Olympian Bakhodir Jalolov making his New York debut. Trained by Joel Diaz, Jalolov, now 2-0 (2 KOs), blasted Mexico’s Eduardo Vitela (3-3, 1 KO) with a single straight left hand 30 seconds into the first round that dropped Vitela hard and unable to rise from the canvas, resulting in a TKO victory. The 6’6″ southpaw Jalolov is co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Fight Promotions Inc. Born in Sariosiyo, Uzbekistan, Jalolov was a highly accomplished amateur compiling a record of 84-13. A four-time National champion from 2013 to 2016, Jalolov represented his homeland at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, and had the distinguished honor of being the country’s flagbearer at the Opening Ceremonies. As an amateur, Jalolov won gold medals at the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships in 2017, World Cup Tournament, Liventsev Memorial Tournament, Great Silk Way Tournament, and Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in 2015, and at the World Cup of Petroleum Countries Tournament in 2014. During his amateur career, Jalolov also focused on his education, earning a Master’s Degree in Sports Science.

Trained by Elmo Serrano out of Gleason’s Gym, Brooklyn’s undefeated junior lightweight prospect Jude “King Zar” Franklin improved to 9-0 (8 KOs) when referee
Arthur Mercante Jr.called a stop to the action in the final frame of the six-round fight despite a game effort from the rugged Mexican veteran Danny Flores (15-14-1, 8 KOs). Franklin looked sharp relentlessly attacking the body throughout and ultimately overwhelming Flores.

Brooklyn’s own Melissa St. Vil, 11-3-4 (1 KO), handed Mayra Hernandez, now 6-1 (4 KOs), her first defeat, winning a unanimous decision. Known as “Little Miss Tyson”, St. Vil, who lost a close majority decision against Eva Wahlstrom for the WBC Super Featherweight World Title back in April, looked excellent in picking up the decision against Oklahoma’s Hernandez.

In his Kings Theatre debut, Brooklynite Khalid “Pure Gold” Twaiti (4-0, 2 KOs) looked impressive winning a four-round unanimous decision against Carlos Ramirez (1-3, 1 KO), of Ensenada, Mexico, in a junior featherweight contest. Trained by Don Saxby out of Gleason’s Gym, Twaiti turned pro in February 2017 after compiling a 74-15 amateur record.

In other action throughout the night:

Undefeated middleweight prospect Edgar Berlanga (9-0, 9 KOs) continued his unprecedented first round knockout streak by scoring three knockdowns in the opening stanza against Washington, DC.’s Gregory Clark (3-3-1, 1 KOs). Despite Clark’s movement, Berlanga stalked his opponent, landing an overhand right for the first knockdown then a flurry that literally sent Clark under the ropes for the second knockdown and finally a left hook to the body for the final knockdown.

In a show stealing scrap, despite being dropped at the very end of the first round, Pablo Valdez (2-0, 2 KOs) stormed back to drop Alexander Serna (1-3, 1 KO) in the second round only to be dropped again himself at the end of the third round. Valdez answered back again decking Serna twice in the fourth and with the second knockdown, the referee waved off the fight thus saving the judges a serious mathematical headache. In just his second fight, Valdez brought hundreds of enthusiastic supporters who erupted over the result of the back-and-forth war.

Undefeated junior middleweight Matthew Gonzalez (7-0, 4 KOs) kept his perfect record winning an unanimous decision against Jordan Morales (3-5, 2 KOs) in a six-round bout. In his fifth fight of the year, ‘Lefty’, at only 23 years old, is starting to stand out in the crowded field of New York prospects due to his activity and dominant performances.

Junior Younan (14-0-1, 10 KOs) scored an easy first-round stoppage in just under a minute against Evert Bravo (24-9-1, 18 KOs).

Italy’s Giovanni Scuderi (1-0), now fighting out of Brooklyn, won a close but unanimous decision in his professional debut versus Maryland’s Charles Johnson (1-2, 1 KO) in a four-round cruiserweight bout.

Justin Biggs (5-0, 5 KOs), a multiple Golden Gloves winner, looked sensational in front of his hometown fans stopping Florida’s Noe Lozano (2-4) in the final round of a scheduled six-round junior middleweight round bout. Despite a heated weigh-in that almost erupted into an altercation, Lozano could not back up the tough talk.

El Matador Management Fighters Mathew Gonzalez and Justin Biggs in action on Saturday night in Brooklyn

New York (September 28, 2018) – Two undefeated fighters from Felipe Gomez’s El Matador Management will be on display on Saturday night at The King’s Theatre in Brooklyn, New York.

Super Welterweight Mathew Gonzalez (6-0, 4 KOs) will take on Jordan Morales (3-4, 1 KO) in a four-round bout, while super welterweight Justin Biggs (4-0, 4 KOs) will take on Noe Lozano (2-3) in a six-round tilt.

Gonzalez of Ridgewood, New York will be making his 5th start of 2018, and the busy fighter is ready for his next challenge.

“Everything is going well. I have had good sparring, my weight is good, and it is time to perform,” said Gonzalez.

He will be facing Morales, of Sunbury, Pennsylvania, who took the fight on two-weeks notice.

“I don’t know too much about him. A friend of mine, Richardson Hitchins fought him at Barclays Center, and I was at that fight, so I have seen him fight.”

Gonzalez has established himself as one of the top ticket sellers in the New York area, and the 23 year-old nicknamed “Lefty” is getting noticed.

“I go to different places and people are starting to know me. It’s good to know that I am building a fan base. I thrive on having a big fan base. It makes me want to go out and execute and perform for my fans,”

Gonzalez is happy on where he is at in his career, as getting in a 5th fight in 2018 is setting himself up for a good year in 2019.

“I am where I should be. Every fight, I am getting better and better. I am just taking one fight at a time. I just want everyone to stay tuned and keep and eye on me. Fans can follow me on Instagram at leftygunz_

Biggs of Brooklyn will be making his 3rd consecutive appearance at the venue in his hometown.

“My training was great. I have been working hard, and I am on weight,” said Biggs.

Biggs has a pretty good scouting report on his foe, and he is looking for a great fight on Saturday.

“He is a fellow southpaw. He is pretty intense, and he comes at you, which should make for a great fight. I think that my body punching and jab will be too much for him to handle.”

Biggs has a nice knockout streak to start his career, and unlike most fighters he feels that stoppages are important for many reasons.

“The most important thing is to win. I don’t go in there looking for a knockdown, but I feel I will eventually get him out of there by breaking my opponents down. It is important to get knockouts because that is what people pay to see.”

Four fights into his career, Biggs continues to see himself evolve as a fighter.

“I see myself from old fights in the amateurs, and I see that I am more disciplined. I am more defensively responsible, and I am moving more fluidly. I feel that I am efficient and exciting. I am happy with my progress.”

Biggs, 26 years-old has a very ambitious schedule, and within a year, he sees himself as a legitimate contender.

“In the next year, I would like to be 14 or 15 and 0. Maybe even higher. I feel good that more that I fight, the more that I learn. I want to be fighters on the networks and being called a future world champion. Saturday, i will do my best, and hope people will be inspired by watching me fight.”

Both Gonzalez and Biggs are promoted by Real Deal Boxing.

STATEMENT FROM GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS ON PASSING OF HALL OF FAMER DON CHARGIN

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 28, 2018): Today, the sport of boxing lost a legend.

For decades, “War a Week” Don Chargin was universally known as a titan of promoting and matchmaking. His events at the Olympic Auditorium were not to be missed, and along with his wife, Lorraine, he was the linchpin of boxing in California and beyond.

But to those of us at Golden Boy Promotions, he was so much more. He was a partner. He was a mentor. And he was a friend. To say Don will be missed doesn’t come close to explaining the sadness we all feel today.

Undefeated Lightweight Thomas Mattice looking for emphatic win over Zhora Hamazaryan Tonight on ShoBox: The New Generation

TEMECULA, Calif., (September 28, 2018) – Undefeated lightweight Thomas Mattice will be looking for a more emphatic win when he takes on Zhora Hamazaryan in the co-feature bout of a ShoBox: The New Generation card that will take place tonight at Pechanga Resort & Casino and live on SHOWTIME (10 PM ET/PT).

Mattice (13-0, 10 KOs) had to get off the deck to win a split decision on July 20th. Fans throughout the boxing world called for the rematch, and Mattice obliged as he has been working hard to better his effort on Friday night.

“Camp was great, we worked very hard and I am ready for Friday night,” said Mattice.

Mattice doesn’t think he needs to make adjustments, as he will fight and use his ability to get the nod on Friday. “I just have to go in there and do my job.”

The 28 year-old from Cleveland doesn’t think anything that happened in the first fight means anything heading into the rematch.

“Every fight is different. It doesn’t matter if you are fighting the same opponent or not.
It was tight. Every round was tight in the first fight. It depends on how you look at it. I know 80 percent of the people watching think I lost. But there were rounds that I won. The only round he out-landed me was the second and seventh round.

“I didn’t give my best effort in the first fight. That’s why I decided to take the rematch. I didn’t have to take it, but I did. I’m not paid to judge fights; I fight them.”

He knows that Hamazaryan gave him a hard fight in the first encounter, but Mattice is confident that he will make it 2-for-2 against his Armenian opponent.

“He is a good fighter, but I am a great fighter. We have to get into the ring and fight. I prepared very hard for this opportunity. The first fight was exciting, and I expect nothing less than that, but once again, I will prevail.”

IRISHMAN JASON QUIGLEY TO RETURN IN MAIN EVENT OF OCT. 18 GOLDEN BOY BOXING ON ESPN AGAINST HEAVY HITTER FREDDY ‘EL RIEL’ HERNANDEZ IN FIRST DEFENSE OF NABF MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE

LOS ANGELES (September 28, 2018): The exciting fighting style of Donegal, Ireland’s Jason Quigley (14-0, 11 KOs) will make its anticipated return to the ring against the rugged Freddy “El Riel” Hernandez (34-9, 22 KOs) in a scheduled 10-round battle. Quigley will defend his NABF Middleweight Title for the first time since capturing the regional belt against Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia last year and will make an impressive step up in competition. This exciting bout will headline the Oct. 18 edition of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN and take place at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes will air the fights beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT, and stream live on ESPN3 starting at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.

Quigley will go into his second fight with new trainer Dominic Ingle, who also trains the likes of Kell “Special K” Brook, Liam “Beefy” Smith and other world-class fighters. The 27-year-old will return after inflicting Daniel Rosario with his first-ever stoppage loss in March. That win over Rosario was Quigley’s first fight in a year after injuring his right hand against Tapia in 2017, and Quigley is ready to return to the limelight in his sixth appearance at Fantasy Springs.

“I’m excited to get back to business,” said Jason Quigley. “What better setting than Fantasy Springs to headline a Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN card? It’s where I won this belt in the first-ever Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN. This is my belt now, and I’m not letting anyone take it away. This belt has a place in my home. It’s got a spot in the cabinet. No one is coming into my house to take my belt.”

Hernandez is a veteran who has faced the likes of Alfredo “El Perro” Angulo, Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade, Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara, and Andre Berto. Hernandez is an experienced fighter who has prevented many prospects from leaping to contention status. His most recent notable win was a unaminous decision victory against former WBO interim champion Aflredo Angulo in August 2016.

“I want to give thanks to Golden Boy and ESPN for choosing me as an opponent,” said Freddy Hernandez. “I promise to not let you down. This is going to be a great fight. Quigley is a strong fighter and is training to win, as will I. At this place in my career, I know I have very little time left to leave an impression and to take career risks, but the public will not be disspappointed with my performance. I’m going to give it all that I have.”

“Jayson Quigley is a rising contender in the middleweight rankings, which has always been a glamour division in boxing,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “He’s had a minor setback to due his injury, but he’s ready to comeback and challenge all contenders and champions at 160 pounds.”

As chief support of the regional championship bout, Eddie “E-Boy” Gomez (21-3, 12 KOs) of the Bronx, N.Y. will return to Fantasy Springs aftering knocking out his Golden Boy stablemate Keandre Gibson in that same arena earlier this year. Gomez will face Amagasaki, Japan’s Shoki “El PV” Sakai (23-8-2, 13 KOs) in an eight-round welterweight bout.

Rommel Caballero (2-0-1,1 KO) will open the Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN show in a six-round super featherweight bout against Agua Prieta, Mex.’s Hugo “Dandy” Padron (3-2, 3 KOs).

Los Angeles fan-favorite Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez (19-2, 15 KOs) of Buena Park, Calif. will face a former foe in a scheduled eight-round lightweight rematch against Sindangan, Philippines’s Rey “The Flash” Perez (23-10, 7 KOs). Perez had given Gonzalez his first ever unaminous decision loss, which Gonzalez will be out to avenge when the two meet on the canvas again.

Angel “Relampago” Ruiz (12-0, 8 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico will open the night of action in an eight-round super lightweight fight against a soon-to-be-announced opponent.

Quigley vs. Hernandez is a 10-round fight for the NABF Middleweight Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions. The event is sponsored by Tecate, “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING” and Hennessy, “Never Stop, Never Settle.” The fights will take place on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes will air the fights beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT, and stream live on ESPN3 starting at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.

CALL ME THE FEMALE LOMACHENKO

NICOLA ADAMS wants to achieve the highest accolades so she can be compared to Ukrainian great Vasyl Lomachenko.

He has already won world titles at three weights inside 12 fights and like Adams is a double Olympic gold medallist.

Adams (4-0) will be on the brink of landing a full world title shot if she defeats experienced Mexican Isabel Milan (22-4-1) at Leicester’s Morningside Arena on Saturday October 6 in their vacant interim WBO female Flyweight championship clash over ten rounds.

All of Adams professional opponents, since she turned professional in April 2017 have had winning records and WBO champion Arely Mucino is within touching distance.

The Leeds golden girl says: “A lot of new professionals don’t fight opponents with good records and titles so soon in their career apart from boxers like Vasyl Lomachenko and that is the sort of footsteps I want to follow in.

“I want a world title quickly and prove that I belong among the best.

“Lomachenko is one of my favourite boxers. His technical ability, his hand speed, his power punching is unbelievable.

“Like myself, he is also a two-time Olympic champion. Why not fancy myself as female boxing’s answer to Lomachenko?”

Adams, 35, is now training in Sheffield under Dominic Ingle and trains alongside fellow Frank Warren promoted boxers Willie Hutchison, Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Williams.

Olympic triumphs in 2012 and 2016 and world amateur gold on her CV, means Adams is a marked woman.

She added: “Everybody wants to beat me and say they knocked out the two-time Olympic gold medallist.

“I never take any chances in the ring or overlook anybody and I always give it 110 per-cent. I treat every opponent like I am fighting for a world title.

“This fight against Isabel my most important professional fight so far because it is the one where a win will get me that full world title challenge.”

‘The Time Is Now’ is headlined by Jack Catterall v Ohara Davies. Leicester’s own, Lyon Woodstock defends his WBO European Super-Featherweight title against Archie Sharp. Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois takes on former world title challenger Kevin Johnson. Olympian and double gold medallist Nicola Adams will be fighting Isabel Millan for the Interim WBO World Female Flyweight Title and Leicester’s British Super-Featherweight champion Sam Bowen also feature on a major night of boxing televised live on BT Sport.

Tickets are priced at £40, £60, £100, £150, £200 and are available to purchase from Eventbrite and Ticketmaster.

CAN OHARA HIT THE JACKPOT?

JAMIE MOORE LIKENS the chances of Ohara Davies landing a jackpot punch on his charge Jack Catterall to him buying a lottery ticket and hoping for the best.

Two of the best super lightweights in the country will take to the ring in Leicester next Saturday (October 6) with the winner expected to be in pole position for a shot at a world title in 2019.

The unbeaten Catterall is putting his perfect ledger at risk against the thunder-punching Davies, but trainer Moore believes his man is too smart an operator to leave openings for the Londoner to exploit.

“Obviously I don’t expect him not to get hit, but Ohara Davies is going to really struggle in pinning Jack down,” reasoned Moore, also the trainer of Catterall’s promotional stablemates Carl Frampton and Martin Murray.

“He might catch him or clip him a couple of times, but after that, one the best things about Jack’s game is he rarely gets hit with the same shot again.

“We understand the dangers of the fight, don’t get me wrong, we know that there is the possibility of getting clipped, especially with that dangerous right hand, but to me that is like Ohara Davies trying to buy a lottery ticket.

“Every other ticked box is on our side of the court. The better boxing brain, the better engine, the better body puncher, better jab – all those boxes are ticked in our favour.

“The one thing Ohara can win the fight with is by landing that power shot and it is up to Jack not to let that happen.

“That is Ohara’s jackpot and it is a big one, don’t get me wrong, and he has landed it many, many times in his career so far. But he has always struggled landing it against good defensive fighters and the only loss on his record is against a southpaw who took the fight to him, worked his body and had a good jab.

“Those three things are all in Jack’s favour.”

Moore does acknowledge, however, that the fairly unique dimensions of Davies have had to be taken into account during preparations for Catterall’s defence of his WBO Intercontinental title.

“Urm, a little bit. It is not just about styles and stances, sometimes you’ve got to take into consideration the unusual aspects of opponents and one of the things that is unusual about Ohara Davies is the length of his arms.

“We’ve done a bit of sparring with taller fighters, which isn’t ideal range-wise because you are sort of aiming at a different height, but you do get a better perception for distance when you are thinking that people are out of range.

“To be fair, Tommy Coyle, who is one of our fighters and in the same gym, he’s got quite long arms for his weight and it has worked out perfectly really so we have done a lot of it in-house and Tommy has got a fight coming up against a southpaw so they have worked a lot with each other during this camp.

“It will be about judgement of distance and that is one of the things Jack is really good at. He’s got good anticipation, along with a really good defence and excellent timing.”

FINAL QUOTES:

DEVIN HANEY:
“I’m one of the best boxers in the game. I think most of my opponents know that when they get in the ring with me and that’s why they try to land their best shot as soon as the fight is on. They try, but they don’t touch me.

“When I fought Mason Menard, skeptics said I was over my head, that I didn’t stand a chance. And I got in the ring and I won. I outclassed him. Then, they started saying that Menard was not at his best, that he didn’t bring his ‘A’ game. I feel I don’t get the recognition I deserve. I work really hard. I love this sport and I give my all.

“I have been fighting at 132 since I was 16, now I’m at 135. It takes a lot of discipline. I have a great team that stands by me and helps me be the best version of myself.”

JUAN CARLOS BURGOS:
“This is my second fight at 135. I feel good. I feel that I have evolved as a boxer since my last fight. I feel strong. I think it has to do with experience, after some time you just learn your lesson and move forward.

“I am very skilled boxer and after the Mikey [Garcia] fight I learned a lot about myself mentally and physically. I want to get another title shot and. I feel this fight is the right opportunity for me, because with this fight I’m planning to show the world I’m still an elite boxer.

“I don’t think Haney has fought a fighter with the experience I have. You can be talented but there are things you can’t teach. You only learn them with time. No matter how talented you are.”

THOMAS MATTICE:
“I’m recovering from the flu but now I’m 100 percent physically, and mentally I’m there too. I lost focus after the knockdown and never was able to get back on track.

“The cross country travel from New Jersey to California was tough, and we had some issues and I lost a few days because of things out of my control.

“It was tight.

ZHORA HAMAZARYAN:
“I’m just going to pressure him and come forward. I can’t leave it in the judges’ hands. I know I have to be the aggressor, so it should only last three or four rounds.

“It was very unfair. I know I did everything in the books to look good, to have a clean fight, to win but the judges gave it to him. I was not happy.

“Once I get in the ring, I’ll break him down and I’ll make adjustments. He’s not going to win without deserving it again. I’ll make sure of that.”

CEM KILIC:
“When I came to the United States I struggled to find the right trainer. The right adjustment from what I was used to do in Germany and what I wanted to do here. Trainers in Germany are different. I tried a few trainers here and there and then, I found Buddy McGirt. I liked him right away, he’s old school and that’s exactly what I wanted.

“I’ve had very good sparring partners, not only for this fight, but also throughout my career. I’ve sparred with Jermell Charlo, Miguel Cotto, Errol Spence Jr. You make one mistake and you pay for it, that’s one of the thing I’ve learned – especially Charlo. He capitalizes on your mistakes. I think Spence was more difficult than Charlo. He just brings it. He’s so quick. He gave me a lot of confidence. He told me to keep it up because one day I’d be a world champion.

“Before I started boxing I admired Muhammad Ali. He loves Islam, the real Islam, the one is all about love. Then I started boxing and although dancing is not my style, Ali remained as my favorite fighter, my inspiration.

“I get in your face. I like to come forward. If I wanted to be a dancer, I’d be a dancer. I’m a boxer and you’ll see me doing that tomorrow. I’ll get in his face.

“Besides Charlo, I don’t know anyone that would stand in front of me and apply pressure. All the other fighters I’ve been in the ring with have to do combinations and move around. They can’t take it.”

DeANDRE WARE:
“I’m confident in my skills. I’ve been in the gym doing the things that I need to do, strength and conditioning, sparring. My confidence comes from my hard work and dedication. I know what I put in and I know what I’m capable of. I listen to my trainer, I’m disciplined. I’m all business.

“I took this fight with little notice but trust me, I’m ready. I know I’m the B side and all. And I know what that means: I have to do more than just box. I have to win the public, the judges, the people watching at home. I’m basically in my opponent’s hometown. I know what I’m in for. They are in for a surprise.

“I’m a firefighter. I work on Station 4 on Hill Avenue in Toledo. They support me 100 percent, they even built me a gym at the station so I can train there too. I was supposed to work tomorrow but someone is covering for me.”

MCCASKILL LANDS DREAM WORLD TITLE CLASH AGAINST FARIAS

Jessica McCaskill is hunting history as Chicago’s first Women’s World champion when she challenges WBC World Super-Lightweight champion Erica Farias on a bumper World title triple-header at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on October 6, live on DAZN.

McCaskill’s (5-2 3KOs) second crack at World honors comes hot on the heels of her stirring performance against Lightweight ruler Katie Taylor in London in December – where the Chicago favorite pushed the Irish star the distance and posed her plenty of problems in just her seventh pro outing.

Buoyed by that night’s work, ‘CasKILLA’ will relish welcoming Farias (26-2 10KOs) to her home patch next weekend, but faces another star performed in the Argentine two-weight World champion, who defends her title for the fourth time in the windy city.

Farias will be taking on her fellow 34 year old on in her impressive 19th World title contest – but McCaskill is determined to seize her big night with both hands.

“I’m thrilled to be fighting for a World title in my home town,” said McCaskill. “I know that Erica is a great World champion, but I learnt so much from fighting Katie and I feel like I am more than ready to take the title from her.

“It was already going to be an honor to fight on the card with so many great fighters, but now there is this great prize on the line, I promise my fans that I will be leaving everything in the ring to make history for Chicago.

Farias is rated #1 in the 140lbs division and with Puerto Rican legend Amanda Serrano making the WBO Super-Lightweight strap her sixth weight division conquered as a World champion in Brooklyn earlier in the month, ‘La Pantera’ will be looking to meet Serrano in a unification bout – but knows McCaskill will be a threat in front of a partisan crowd.

“It is fantastic to be facing Jessica in Chicago,” said Farias. “I know that with the home fans behind her, she will give it her all – but I will rise to the occasion too and put on a great show.

“Women’s boxing is on fire now with some big fights and stars fighting on TV, so this is a great chance for me to show that I deserve those big nights and to fight in unification bouts.”

“This is such a great moment for Jessica, Women’s boxing and Chicago,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s a shot that came out of nowhere and one she and her team have grabbed with both hands.

“Jessica travelled to London to fight Katie Taylor and now she has a chance to win a World title in front of her own people. It makes next Saturday a World title triple-header and a huge night of boxing – it’s going to be non-stop action from when the lights come on.”

McCaskill’s shot at history is part of a massive night of action in Chicago, topped by the WBC Silver Welterweight title clash between Jessie Vargas and Thomas Dulorme

Russian star Artur Beterbiev defend his IBF World Light-Heavyweight title against unbeaten Brit Callum Johnson, Daniel Roman defends his WBA Super-Bantamweight crown against another Brit, second time World title challenger Gavin McDonnell and Brooklyn’s brash Heavyweight star Jarrell Miller meets Polish legend Tomasz Adamek.

Three debutants grace the bill as Team USA talents Reshat Mati, Nikita Ababiy and Nkosi Solomon lace them up for the first time.

Along with these World stars and promising youngsters, Chicago fight fans will be able to back two of their own on the night, with unbeaten Bantamweight prospect Shawn Simpson joining McCaskill on the card.

Tickets for October 6 are on sale now priced $40, $60, $100 and $200 and are available from:

WBC HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: DEONTAY WILDER VS. TYSON FURY SET FOR STAPLES CENTER IN LOS ANGELES SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1 * LIVE ON SHOWTIME PPV®

NEW YORK – September 27, 2018 – WBC World Champion Deontay Wilder will defend his title against lineal champion Tyson Fury in a blockbuster matchup of undefeated heavyweights on Saturday, December 1, live on SHOWTIME PPV® at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

Wilder vs. Fury tests the raw power of Wilder against the unmatched size and mobility of Fury. America’s only heavyweight champion since 2007, Wilder has 39 knockouts in 40 professional fights, including knockouts in all seven of his title defenses. Fury is a former IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight world champion who is undefeated in 27 professional fights and holds boxing’s coveted lineal heavyweight title.

The evenly matched showdown of top-ranked heavyweights pits boxing’s two largest champions against each other in the most significant heavyweight fight in the United States since Lennox Lewis vs. Mike Tyson in 2002. In addition to physical stature – Wilder is 6-foot-7, Fury 6-foot-9 – both are among boxing’s greatest showmen, with outsized personalities and heavyweight charisma.

“Wilder vs. Fury is a throwback to the glory days of heavyweight boxing – a 50/50 matchup between two larger-than-life athletes with towering physical frames and captivating personalities,” said Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports and Event Programming for Showtime Networks Inc. “Deontay Wilder has proven he’s the hardest puncher in boxing. Tyson Fury‘s size and skill set present a challenge unlike any other in the heavyweight division. No one knows what will happen when these two giants step into the ring, and that’s what makes this fight so fascinating.”

Wilder vs. Fury is the latest major heavyweight event to take place in the Southland, expanding an already deep history of heavyweight boxing featuring Hall of Famers Joe Louis, Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko, the last of whom faced off at STAPLES Center in 2003.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by BombZquad Enterprises and Queensberry Promotions, in association with DiBella Entertainment and TGB Promotions, go on sale Wednesday, October 3 at 12 p.m. PT. Tickets are priced starting at $75, plus applicable fees, and are available via AXS.com. Wilder vs. Fury will be produced and distributed by SHOWTIME PPV.

“I can’t wait to fight Tyson Fury in the biggest fight in the heavyweight division and all of boxing,” said Wilder. “I have tremendous respect for Fury for agreeing to leave England and come to the U.S. to challenge me. I’m the WBC champion, he’s the lineal champion, and the winner of this fight will show the world who is ‘The Man’ in the heavyweight division. As much as I respect Fury, I fear no man and fully intend to knock him out like every man that I’ve ever faced in the ring.”

“People talk about me only having two fights since my layoff, but that doesn’t bother me at all,” Fury said. “This is the Tyson Fury show. It always has been. This is my era, and I proved that when I beat Klitschko in his own backyard. Is Wilder the biggest puncher I have faced? You don’t know that until you are on the floor. It is all about not getting hit in this fight. Until someone beats me, I am the king of the heavyweight division. Long live the king.”

“There is no better place in the world than STAPLES Center to have these two giant heavyweights, WBC champion Deontay Wilder and lineal champion Tyson Fury, clashing in an epic championship fight,” said Lee Zeidman, President, STAPLES Center. “This is the kind of match that will add to the rich tradition of Southland boxing and we are incredibly proud to host it.’’

After winning bronze at the 2008 Olympic Games, Wilder knocked out his first 32 professional opponents inside of four rounds to earn a shot at WBC Heavyweight Champion Bermane Stiverne on Jan. 17, 2015. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native defeated Stiverne via near-shutout decision, going the distance for the first time in his career to become America’s first heavyweight world champion since Shannon Briggs in 2007.

As WBC champion, Wilder has knocked out all seven of his world title challengers, including a devastating first-round knockout of Stiverne in a 2017 rematch. In his last fight, Wilder survived the toughest test of his career in undefeated top-five ranked world title challenger Luis Ortiz. Wilder knocked out the Cuban slugger in a leading candidate for 2018 Fight of the Year.

In Fury, Wilder will face his second consecutive top-five heavyweight in what experts have set as the closest odds of his professional career.

Fury, who was born in 1988 and named after then-heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, competed as an amateur for both England and Ireland before turning professional in 2008. The self-proclaimed “Gypsy King” dominated the competition early in his career to earn a world title shot against Wladimir Klitschko, who had ruled over the heavyweight division for nine consecutive years.

Fury shocked the world with a unanimous decision win over Klitschko in 2015, limiting the future Hall of Famer to the worst offensive output of his professional career. Subsequent battles with drugs, mental health and weight gain, along with a failure to face his mandatory challengers, cost Fury his belts and led to a nearly three-year hiatus from the sport.

Fury was triumphant in his long-awaited return on June 9 against Sefer Seferi, leading to a second comeback fight less than 75 days later against former world title challenger Francesco Pianeta. Weighing within 11 pounds of his fighting weight when he dethroned Klitschko, Fury displayed prime movement, hand speed and footwork in a shutout decision to earn the opportunity to become a two-time heavyweight world champion on December 1.

Lozano looks to return to the win column following a hard-fought decision loss to Yulian Tembotov on March 10.

Heavyweights will see action in a scheduled six-rounder as Bahkodir Jalolov (1-0, 1 KO), of Los Angeles, CA, clashes with Eduardo Vitela (3-2, 2 KOs), of Durango, Mexico. Jalolov, a 2016 Olympian from Uzbekistan, kicked off his professional career with a third-round knockout of Hugo Trujillo on May 5. Vitela is returning to battle after a first-round knockout of Cesar Escareno on June 19, in Monterrey, Mexico. Jalolov versus Vitela is presented in association with Fight Promotions Inc.

In a six-round welterweight scrap, Brooklyn’s Zachary “Zungry” Ochoa (19-1, 7 KOs), will face Michael Odhiambo (15-9, 12 KOs), of Nairobi, Kenya. Since suffering his only loss in March 2017, the 25-year-old Puerto Rican prospect has gotten back on track with three straight victories including a six-round unanimous decision versus Oscar Barajas on June 9, at Kings Theatre. Fighting for the first time in the United States, Odhiambo will be looking to return to the win column having previously won three of his last four from the start of 2016.

Popular cruiserweight newcomer Giovanni Scuderi, of Italy, will make his professional debut in a scheduled four-round bout against Charles Johnson (1-1, 1 KO), of Upper Marlboro, MD.

Popular super middleweight prospect Junior Younan (13-0-1, 9 KOs), of Brooklyn, NY, returns to action in an eight-round battle against Evert Bravo (24-8-1, 18 KOs), of Arboletes, Colombia. The unbeaten Younan looks to charge back into the win column after a nationally televised split decision draw against Ronald Ellis on February 2. This past November, Bravo challenged Long Island’s Seanie Monaghan, dropping a hard-fought eight-round decision in Brooklyn.

Rounding out the stacked card in a four-round welterweight battle, Pablo Valdez (1-0, 1 KO), of the Dominican Republic, faces off against Alexander Serna (1-2, 1 KO).

Broadway Boxing is presented by Nissan of Queens, OPTYX, Azad Watches, Christos Steak House, Gagliardi Insurance, Venum and Medical Arts Radiology.

HEAVYWEIGHTS KYE BROOKS AND JONATHAN RICE BACK IN ACTION THIS SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 29, IN TIJUANA, MEXICO

TIJUANA, MX (September 27, 2018) – Undefeated heavyweight prospect Kye Brooks (3-0, 2 KOs) and fellow stablemate, heavyweight Jonathan Rice (8-3-1, 4 KOs), both who are managed by Greg Hannley of Prince Ranch Boxing, will be fighting in separate four-round bouts this Saturday, September 29, 2018, in Tijuana, MX.

Brooks, who last fought in April of this year, hails from Las Vegas, NV, and is trained by former two-time world champion Bones Adams. Standing 6’4, Brooks will look to extend on his undefeated record.

“I’m going to come out firing early in this fight,” said a confident Kye Brooks. “It’s been a few months since I last fought so I’m eager to get in the ring and do some damage. Mexico is like a second home to me since all my fights have took place there. I’ll be looking to get my third knockout.”

Rice, who is trained by former world champion, Wayne McCulloh, resides in Los Angeles, California. Rice recently fought in San Antonio, TX, earlier this month, where we won a lopsided six-round unanimous decision.

“I’m happy to be getting right back in the ring,” stated Jonathan Rice. “Now that I got Wayne McCulloh in my corner, I’m seeing the difference in my performance. I’m hurting guys in sparring and my confidence is at an all time high. I’m going to set up all my combinations with a nice jab, with the thought of knocking out my opponent.”

“Kye and Jonnie both have the talent to do some damage in the heavyweight division.” said Greg Hannley, CEO of Prince Ranch Boxing. “Right now, it’s all about keeping them busy. Fighting in Mexico is not as easy as most would think. I know if they stay on their game, they’ll come out victorious.”

This even is promoted by Gonzalez Boxing Promotions, in association with GM3 Boxing.

Mercado outlasts Vazquez in classic slugfest

Philadelphia, PA (September 27, 2018) – This past Tuesday night, one of the most thrilling fights in recent memory, Anthony Mercado and Victor Vazquez waged an eight-round war for the ages that saw Mercado overcome a horrible cut over his right eye, a knockdown, and multiple instances where the fight could have been stopped to persevere and somehow comeback to win the fight.

The bout, for which some at ringside were saying it was the best fight in Pennsylvania, headlined a nine-bout card at The Sands Bethlehem Event Center and was promoted by King’s Promotions.

The show was streamed live to a record audience of over 500,000 views on Facebook Fightnight Live. The show can be seen on-demand by CLICKING HERE

Mercado was cut badly over his right in round two from an accidental headbutt. In round three, Mercado landed a hard flurry on the ropes that forced Vazquez into the ropes, and referee Gary Rosato ruled that ropes kept Vazquez from being knocked down and administered an eight-count. Vazquez fought back in round four and landed a couple of booming left hooks that rocked Mercado.

The continued to trade heavy shots at will, which led to some brutal exchanges with each guy landing some vicious power punches. In round six, Vazquez landed some booming shots that had Mercado in trouble for much of the round, One such flurry had Mercado seemingly a punch or two a way from getting stopped. At the end of the round, Vazquez landed a flush left hook to the jaw that put Mercado plummeting to the canvas. Mercado got up just as the bell rang, and he stumbled to the corner. Vazquez went in for the finish in round seven, but Mercado, with blood now covering the whole right side of his face, was able to stabilize himself and work his way back into the fight. Mercado made it all the way back, and was able to box his way to win the decisive eighth round.

Mercado, 140.8 lbs of Puerto Rico won by scores of 77-74 and 76-75 twice to raise his mark to 12-5. Vazquez, 137.9 lbs of Yonkers, New York fought a great fight, but now falls to 10-5.

“I just thought of my dad. I thought the fight was close to being stopped. It was not easy, he is a good boxer. I did not feel the cut. I will have to talk to my team, but money talks for a rematch,” said Mercado

Vazquez said,”It could of went any way. He is a good opponent. He is tough. We both have power. We both came ready for the fighter. Today we are both winners.”

In the co-feature, Raeese Aleem stopped Alcides Santiago at the end of round five of their scheduled six-round super bantamweight bout.

Aleem beat Santiago down, and scored a knockdown in round five.

Spring, 153.3 lbs of Reading, PA is now 11-2-2. Robinson, 152.9 lbs of York, PA is 5-12-5.

Colby Madison remained undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over Nicoy Clarke in a heavyweight bout.

Clarke fought most of the bout with a cut over his left eye that was caused by a punch.

Madison, 241 lbs of Owings Mills, MD won by scores of 60-54 twice and 59-55, and is now 7-0-2. Clarke, 211.5 lbs of Jersey City, NJ is 2-2.

Good looking prospect Money Powell IV won a six-round unanimous decision over Josue Obando in a middleweight contest.

Powell, 163.1 lbs of Fort Mitchell, AL won by scores of 60-54 twice, and 59-55 to go to 8-0. Obando, 165 lbs of Jalisco, MEX is 16-23-1.

Michael Coffie scored four knockdowns en-roue to a 2nd round stoppage over Curtis Head in a scheduled six-round heavyweight bout.

Coffie registered the knockdowns evenly as he put Head on the canvas twice in each round, and the bout was stopped at 1:57.

Coffie, 270.5 lbs of Brooklyn, NY is 4-0 with three knockouts. Head, 257 lbs of Southfield, MI is 4-3.

Martino Jules thrilled his hometown fans by dropping Felix Sosa in round’s one and three, which paved the way for a four round unanimous decision in a contest featuring undefeated featherweights.

Jules, 124.5 lbs of nearby Allentown, PA won by tallies of 40-34 on all cards, and is now 5-0. Sosa, 124.1 lbs of Jersey City, NJ is 1-1.

Kenny Robles dropped Corey Gulley in round two, and finished him at 2:13 of round three from a wicked flurry of punches in a junior welterweight fight scheduled for six-rounds.

Robles, 138.2 lbs of Staten Island, NY is now 4-1 with two knockouts. Gulley, 140.6 lbs of Killeen, TX is 2-3-2.

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 27, 2018) – The “Red River Rivalry” is coming to Russell Westbrook’s house.

Dallas native Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker will make the first defense of his WBO junior welterweight world title on Friday, Nov. 16 against No. 1 contender and Oklahoma City product Alex “El Cholo” Saucedo at the Chesapeake Energy Arena, home of the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder.

Hooker-Saucedo will headline a special one-fight telecast live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at midnight ET/9 p.m. PST. The soon-to-be announced undercard will stream live at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ — the new multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment in conjunction with ESPN.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Roc Nation Sports and Matchroom Boxing USA, tickets for this world championship event will go on sale Friday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. CDT. Priced at $250, $150, $75, $50, and $35, tickets may be purchased at the Chesapeake Energy Arena box office, online at Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, or by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

“On Nov. 16, I’m turning his dream into a nightmare,” Hooker said. “He will find out why I am world champion. I don’t care where I fight. The ring is my home. I’m gonna punch him in the mouth, Mexican style!”

“On behalf of Roc Nation Sports and Matchroom Boxing, our co-promoter with Maurice, I am over-the- top excited about this great matchup between Maurice Hooker and Alex Saucedo,” said Roc Nation Sports Promoter Dino Duva. “It has fight of the year written all over it. It’s a top-notch cross-state rivalry and is a very personal grudge match. Saucedo is a very tough kid, but I’m very confident in Maurice. He’s getting better and better with every fight, so I can’t wait to watch ‘Mighty Mo’ bring home the victory again. He will continue his journey to superstardom and prove he’s the best 140-pounder in the world.”

“I am very excited for this huge opportunity at home,” Saucedo said. “It doesn’t get better than fighting for the title in front of the home crowd. It’s a blessing. There’s a big rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma, so I know the Chesapeake Energy Arena is going to be packed. I want that title around my waist and to represent Oklahoma City with pride. Only one world champion has come from my city. I am going to be the second.”

“Alex Saucedo is a tremendous, world-class fighter,” said Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. “Maurice Hooker is a worthy champion, but Alex will have the home crowd on his side in what promises to be an incredible atmosphere. Oklahoma City loves Alex, and the arena is going to be packed to the rafters to watch him make history. This fight, which will be held the night before the Oklahoma Sooners face Kansas at home, will attract thousands to the Chesapeake Energy Arena.”

Hooker (24-0-3, 16 KOs), a seven-year pro, compiled a 97-7 amateur record. Following a draw in his professional debut, he won 12 consecutive bouts before fighting to a hard-fought, eight-round draw against Abel Ramos in a nationally televised bout. Hooker has won three consecutive bouts since his third draw, a 10-rounder versus Darleys Perez on the undercard of the first bout between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev. In his last bout, on June 9, he punched his passport for the second time as a pro and traveled to Manchester, England, to face hometown hero Terry Flanagan for the vacant WBO junior welterweight title. Hooker controlled the distance and was effective as the counter puncher, earning the split decision in hostile territory.

Saucedo (28-0, 18 KOs) moved from Mexico to Oklahoma City when he was 7 years old and grew up only a few miles from Chesapeake Energy Arena. A decorated amateur, he signed a professional contract with Top Rank at 17 years old and turned pro on Nov. 19, 2011 with a first-round TKO against Cedric Sheppard. An Oklahoma kid with Hollywood connections, Saucedo is managed by Churchill Management Group, which counts Mark Wahlberg and Peter Berg among its investors. It was on June 30 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena that Saucedo earned a shot at Hooker’s title. On that night, he fought the tough Australian Lenny Zappavigna, rebounding from nearly getting stopped in the fourth round to knock out Zappavigna in the seventh round in one of the year’s best fights. If he beats Hooker, he will become only the second Oklahoma City product to win a world title. Sean O’Grady made Oklahoma City boxing history on April 12, 1981, scoring a unanimous decision against Hilmer Kenty in Atlantic City to win the WBA lightweight crown. Nearly four decades after the “Bubblegum Kid” tasted world championship glory, Saucedo wants to make a little OKC fistic history of his own.

WARRINGTON VS FRAMPTON BELFAST PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

The Josh Warrington v Carl Frampton media tour reached its conclusion today in Belfast ahead of the blockbuster battle that will take place at the Manchester Arena on December 22 – live and exclusive on BT Box Office – with Warrington’s IBF world featherweight title on the line.

Below is a selection of quotes from today’s meeting of the two combatants at the Clayton Hotel.

Carl Frampton

Like I have said for the last three days now, I think it is going to be a very good fight, a very exciting fight.

It is one I am looking forward to and, although I am harping on a wee bit, a year ago I was being written off – I was done, I was over the hill – but then my last two performances have been two of my better performances of my whole career.

I believe the time is right now to win back a world title and go from there. It is something I will be working seriously hard for and I know Josh well enough and I don’t believe there is an ounce of quit in him.

That is what is going to make it exciting.

I always talk about the support that I have and how grateful I am for it. I believe I am one of the most well supported fighters in world boxing and I am a featherweight, whereas it is normally the heavier weights that get the support.

Josh has got a terrific fanbase as well and, although it is Christmas and the budgets will be tight, I really hope that people will come out and support the fight and I will send them home very, very happy for Christmas.

You take one fight at a time and the next opponent is always the most important guy. Obviously it is important to keep an eye on the future, but if this fight is as hard and exciting as it can be then people will be crying out for another one – and then another one after that. You never know what will happen.

I just believe I am in the best shape of my life right now and, the same as Josh, I believe I am in my prime years.

I want so much to win another world title and I will be sticking the fingers up to the people who thought I was done. That is the reason why I am doing this.

Josh Warrington

There have been no comments about my suit so far so I am pleased with that! Listen, I am looking forward to what is going to be a tremendous fight and potentially the fight of the year.

It is one of those fights that don’t come around that often. You see fights that get built up then don’t deliver, but this one has got all the ingredients to be one that will be talked about for a long time.

I have said over the last couple of days that I have been keeping an eye on Carl over the last few years and I have watched his career as a fan. When he moved to featherweight I watched him as a potential opponent.

Carl says he is in the best shape of his life, while I feel I am just reaching my peak years. I had a great win over Lee Selby back in May and as soon as I got back to the dressing room I thought ‘who’s next?’.

I can’t wait for the night and you guys will be in for a real treat, that is for sure.

I always think boxing is about timing and I have never said I thought Carl was done. You can only fight who is put in front of you so I am under no illusions and won’t be going in there thinking it is only a 75 per cent Carl or he is not the same Carl as when he boxed Quigg or Santa Cruz.

I will be preparing for the very best Carl Frampton, like I do with all my opponents. I’ve worked hard to win this title and I don’t plan on giving it up any time soon.

I am fighting someone in Carl who was rated pound-for-pound and recognised by Ring magazine, so I know he has got some really good credentials behind him. I know that I will need to be at my best but I am in a very good place at the minute.

My confidence is through the roof, I am loving the sport and I can’t wait for this fight, I really can’t.

Tickets are now on sale for this blockbuster event at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd and are are available to purchase via Ticketmaster and Eventim.

Zhora Hamazaryan: “I will beat-down Thomas Mattice in rematch”

PHILADELPHIA / ORANGE, Calif. (Sept. 27, 2018) –Lightweight Zhora Hamazaryan wants to show the world that he is indeed better then undefeated Thomas Mattice when they meet in the rematch of their controversial July 21st bout, this Friday night in the co-feature bout of a ShoBox: The New Generation card from Pechanga Resort Casino, and live on SHOWTIME® (10 PM ET/PT).

Hamazaryan (9-1, 6 KOs) was on the wrong end of what most people thought was a very controversial decision on that July night in Sloan, Iowa. The native of Armenia has been in Los Angeles, training very hard for the rematch.

“Everything is perfect. My camp has been great, and I am just ready for Friday night,” said Hamazaryan.

Hamazaryan has been able to block out the first fight, and he believes that what happened in the ring has no bearing on what will happen on Friday.

“It is a totally new fight for me. I am taking this more seriously because this is a rematch. I did not lose the last fight, so it doesn’t make any difference to me. It will not change my game plan.”

The 22 year-old Hamazaryan feels the experience he gained in the first fight will be beneficial to him for even a more dominant performance.

“I feel like I am a champion. I will do great again, and perform even better. I took this fight to prove that I am better then him. I showed that in the previous fight, and now nothing can stop me.”

The decision was chastised throughout the boxing world, and even called the one of the worst decisions seen in ShoBox expert analyst Steve Farhood’s 40-year boxing career. Hamazaryan will not let the judges decide his fate in the rematch.

“Everyone was disappointed by decision because they saw clearly that I won. It was disappointing for the fans, but It did not break me. This time it won’t be a decision. I am going to do what I am good at. I will win this anyway, whether it’s a decision or knockout. Either way it’s going to be a beat down. Hopefully this will be the right the decision. I just hope everything will be fair, and I am coming for a win.”

Hamazaryan is promoted by Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing

Ancajas, Uzcategui Ready for Bay Area Fight Night

OAKLAND, Calif. (Sept. 26, 2018) – IBF junior bantamweight world champion Jerwin Ancajas and challenger Alejandro Santiago met briefly in the fight hotel on Tuesday and posed for a few photos. They were all smiles then, and they resumed the pleasantries Wednesday afternoon at the final press conference.

Ancajas (30-1-1, 20 KOs), the longest-reigning 115-pound world champion, will make the sixth defense of his title against Santiago (16-2-4, 7 KOs) on Friday at Oakland’s Oracle Arena (home of the Golden State Warriors) in the co-main event. In the main event, IBF super middleweight champion Jose Uzcategui (27-2, 23 KOs) will face Ezequiel Maderna (26-4, 16 KOs) in a 10-round non-title bout contested in the light heavyweight division.

Ancajas-Santiago and Uzcategui-Maderna will stream beginning at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ — the new multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment in conjunction with ESPN.

The entire undercard will be broadcast on ESPN+ at 7:30 p.m. ET and includes Filipino featherweight contender Genesis Servania (31-1, 14 KOs) against Carlos Carlson (22-4, 13 KOs) and Joshua Greer Jr. (17-1-1, 9 KOs) versus Giovanni Delgado (16-7, 9 KOs) in a super bantamweight bout.

Here is what the fighters had to say.

Jose Uzcategui

“Since the beginning of my career, I have never underestimated anybody. I know that this is a great opportunity for Maderna. I know that he’s very hungry. He knows the opportunity that he has in front of him. I am going to try and put on a great performance for everybody.”

On fighting Gilberto Ramirez, Jesse Hart, mandatory challenger Caleb Plant, and his status in the 168-pound division

“I know that I’m in a tough division, but I believe I am the best in the division. I don’t see anybody coming and beating me.”

Ezequiel Maderna

“I recognize that Jose Uzcategui is a great champion. I know his background, that he had a tremendous amateur career. That’s why he’s the champion. I can say that about myself, too. I also had a great amateur career. I fought in the 2008 Olympics {for Argentina). I’m going to try and do my best, especially since this is my first opportunity in the United States.”

Jerwin Ancajas

On his last fought against Jonas Sultan

“The last fight, we weren’t that impressive. This time, we trained hard and long. We did things that we didn’t do before, and we’ll try our best to come up with a better performance this time.”

Alejandro Santiago

“This means a lot to me. I turned pro eight years ago. I’ve been training really hard for this fight. I am going to do my best to take this title with us.”

“I feel very comfortable. I don’t feel any pressure. If you look at my record, I’ve fought plenty of guys in their backyards. I prepare myself for 12 rounds. I won’t go in there looking for the knockout. I’m going to go in there and try and win the rounds.”

Genesis Servania

On his 2017 loss to Oscar Valdez

“Since the Valdez fight, I’ve improved a lot. Valdez is very good, and I want to put on a good fight again.”

On entertaining the Filipino fans in the Bay Area and a potential Valdez rematch

“I had a very hard training camp in Japan, and I look forward to entertaining the fans. If I get a chance to fight Oscar Valdez again, I’d love to have that opportunity.”

Joshua Greer Jr.

“It means everything to be fighting here in this arena, especially with great players like Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green…. all those great guys. And even for this to be the home of Andre Ward is also a blessing with him broadcasting the fights. It’s an honor and a privilege to be in the presence of this.”

On the custom pillows he brings in the ring

“I had a fight in Detroit {in March 2017}. I fought a guy named James Gordon Smith. He was very disrespectful. Him, his matchmakers, his whole team was very disrespectful to me. So I said I’m going to get under their skin. I brought the pillow to the weigh-in and everybody started laughing, so I knew I got in his head. Come fight night, I caught him with a good shot, knocked him out, and the whole city of Detroit was mad. They were like, ‘Oh, he’s so disrespectful,’ but at the end of the day, I started with that. It keeps me working hard because I want to keep bringing the pillow out, keep performing, and keep doing what I’m doing with great knockouts.”

Juan Carlos Burgos Looks to Upend Devin Haney’s Hot Start Friday Night on SHOWTIME

PHILADELPHIA, PENN. / ORANGE, Calif. (Sept. 26 2018) –Three-time world title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos (33-2-2, 21 KOs) marks his return to national television when he meets rising talent Devin Haney (19-0, 13 KOs) in the 10-round main event of a ShoBox: The New Generation tripleheader Friday, Sept. 28, live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT) from Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif.

Burgos, who has challenged for world titles at featherweight and junior lightweight, is stepping up to 135 lbs. for his fight against Haney. The Tijuana, Mex. resident boasts a far more impressive resume than the younger 19-year-old Haney, which he believes will be the difference maker on Friday night.

Burgos, 30, reflects on his past defeats and offers a preview of what might happen during Friday’s main event in a brief Q&A interview below.

What do you know about your opponent Devin Haney?

“He’s fought in Tijuana a bunch of times so I’ve seen him in person. I didn’t really pay that much attention to him at the time. He has ability. He’s hungry with good skills, but I don’t think he’s ready for a fighter like me. He’s too young and I’m an experienced fighter that knows how to win.”

How has your training camp gone?

“We’ve had an excellent training camp. We are training for the best possible outcome for us. Physically, I feel strong. Mentally I’m ready for whatever he brings. I’m going to show everyone that I still have a lot to give to this sport.”

What can a win do for your career?

“Winning this fight will lead to bigger fights. I want to be back in marquee fights and if I win, I should have more options. Even though I took some time off a few years ago, I never stopped training. I was always in the gym. There won’t be any ring rust. I love this sport. My focus is on winning.”

How do you see the fight unfolding?

“I’m a technical fighter. That’s not a secret. I can counter punch too if Haney wants to bring it. I’ll brush him back. I can win a fight in a lot of different ways. I’m not one dimensional like most of the guys he’s faced. I think that’s going to bother him. He’s never faced anyone close to my skill level. He thinks he’s good, but he has no idea how to win a tough fight. Meanwhile, I’ve been in with some of the best talent in the sport.”

You’ve had some setbacks in your world title fights. At 22, you suffered a points defeat to Hozumi Hasegawa in what was a vacant championship fight. You had a draw to Roman Martinez in January 2013, and one year later a unanimous decision loss to Mikey Garcia. What did you learn from those experiences?

“I didn’t accomplish my dream of becoming a world champion. That’s the truth to it. My motivation to be great still exists. I use my setbacks as motivation to get better. I need to get past Haney to realize my goals.”

The co-feature showcases an immediate rematch of one of 2018’s most controversial and widely disputed fights. Lightweights Thomas Mattice (13-0, 10 KOs) and Zhora Hamazaryan (9-1, 6 KOs) will face off less than three months after judges in Iowa awarded Mattice what many ringside observers considered one of the worst decisions in recent memory.

Burgos and Hamazaryan are promoted by Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by Devin Haney Promotions and Ringside Tickets Inc., priced $19 for General Admission, $29, $59, $79, $99, and $129 for Ringside, are on sale now, and can be purchased by calling the Pechanga Casino Box Office at 1-888-810-8871 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

The “Mandatory” event will be broadcast in the United States on a major network and in Canada on pay-per-view via Indigo, Bell TV and Shaw TV. More details will be given Oct. 9 during a press conference in Quebec City, attended by all the participants of this exciting boxing card.

“We are very excited to be returning to the Videotron Center for this fifth Superman world championship defense in Quebec City, more than anyone else in the history of boxing,” GYM President Yvon Michel said. “The challenger is talented and seasoned. The danger is present, but the belt will remain with Quebecers! The challenge is colossal, but the show will be solid and the evening fantastic, an appointment not to be missed,”

“The clash between Adonis Stevenson and Oleksandr Govdzyk will be the third world championship fight in the young history of the Videotron Center and the second for champion Adonis Stevenson,” added Martin Tremblay, Chief Operating Officer of Quebecor Sports and Entertainment Group. “Fans from all over Quebec will appreciate the quality of this gala. The Videotron Center occupies an important place in combat sports with its sixth event in 2018,”

“I am very proud to be back in Quebec City for this mandatory title defense and offer the opportunity to American viewers and on the international scene to rediscover the beauties of Quebec City as well as the hospitality and the Latin passion of the Quebec boxing fans,” Stevenson commented. “I know many believe December would be the end of my reign against this young undefeated Olympic medalist. The message I am prepared to send with this fight is: I am still the No. 1 light heavyweight and I still have several chapters to add to my journey as world champion. December 1st at the Videotron Center is a personal invitation to Quebec fans. You will not be let down, I will win by KO!.”

“I am one of the best boxers in the light heavyweight division and the time has come for me to prove it to the rest of you,” Gyozdyk insisted. “The WBC gave me this opportunity and I am thankful for it. Adonis has been in this position too long. My time is now!”

“Oleksandr has been waiting for this opportunity for a very long time,” Gvozdyk noted. “He respects Adonis Stevenson as a fighter, but make no mistake, his time is now. ‘The Nail’ is going to leave Canada as the new WBC light heavyweight champion.”

“The WBC championship bout between Stevenson and Gvozdyk will be among the best fights of the year, proclaimed Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. “It’s a must-see for all boxing fans.”

ADONIS ”SUPERMAN” STEVENSON

Recognized as one of the most powerful punchers, pound-for-pound, in the boxing world, Stevenson will attempt to successfully defend his title for the 10th time on December 1st.

In his last outing on May 19 at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, he fought a draw with former WBA light heavyweight and WBC super middleweight world champion, Badou Jack, in a spectacular fight, while Floyd Mayweather Jr watched from ringside.

World champion since his violent knockout over the American Chad Dawson in 2013, “Superman” will try to hammer his mandatory aspirant nicknamed, at the Videotron Center.

OLEKSANDR ”THE NAIL” GVOZDYK

Bronze medalist at the London Olympics, Ukrainian-born Gvozdyk moved to Oxnard, California, to begin his professional career in 2014. He has marched forward ever since, racking up 15 wins in 15 bouts, 12 by knockout.

During his last appearance in the ring on March 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York, he defeated Frenchman Mehdi Amar by unanimous decision to become Stevenson’s mandatory challenger, winning the interim light heavyweight WBC title along the way.

Teammates of Vasyl Lomachenko and Oleksandr Usyk, Gvozdyk is a talented and dangerous boxer, as evidenced by his victories by referee stoppage over Yunieski Gonzalez, Isaac Chilemba and Tommy Karpency. In addition, he is now trained by the legendary American trainer and commentator Teddy Atlas.

ANTHONY SIMS JR RETURNS IN CHICAGO

Anthony Sims Jr is back in action at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago on October 6, live on DAZN – and the Light-Heavyweight talent is looking for rounds under the belt to target the big names in 2019 – including IBF champion Artur Beterbiev who defends his title against unbeaten Brit Callum Johnson on the stacked bill

Sims Jr boxed for the first time in 16 months in August in Cardiff, Wales and moved to 15-0 with his 14th stoppage win since his pro debut in April 2014.

That was the Indiana man’s first fight with new promoter Eddie Hearn, and number two takes him to the Windy City as the 23 year old looks to launch his attack on the 175lb division, with a chance to see Beterbiev and Johnson at close quarters on the night.

“I haven’t been treated this way since I started boxing,” said Sims Jr. on teaming up with Hearn. “It was great to be back in the ring for the first time in two years in Cardiff, and now it’s time to step it up some more.

“I got some rounds and got the stoppage in the UK, but I was so excited to be back in there and was head-hunting a bit. In Chicago I’ll be more patient and pick my shots, and I’ll look even better. The ring rust is coming off.”

Sims Jr will have plenty of support in the Wintrust Arena with a bus full of kids from his Sims Boxing Gym in Plainfield, Indiana making the trip to roar him on.

“It’s great to have the kids heading down for the show,” said Sims Jr. “There’s some really talented kids in the gym that just love the sport, so to have them make the trip and not only support me, but watch a great night of boxing with some huge stars, is only going to make them love the game even more.”

“Everyone knows about Anthony Sims Jr, he’s the worst kept secret in boxing,” said Hearn. “He’s been inactive, he’s had some disputes, and he’s been frustrated. But he’s rolling again now. You’re going to get to see his personality come out along with seeing his punch power.

“Every camp he goes into, everyone talks about him. Ask George Groves and Dmitry Bivol about him. He’s in a stacked division and he’s ready-made – 15-0 and just needs one or two more and then he’s ready for the big fights. He’s the perfect guy for what we are doing in the States with DAZN. Anthony fights in Chicago and then we go again in December – and in 2019 we’re ready for all the big fights.”

Sims Jr is part of a massive night of action in Chicago, topped by the WBC Silver Welterweight title clash between Jessie Vargas and Thomas Dulorme

Daniel Roman defends his WBA Super-Bantamweight crown against another Brit, second time World title challenger Gavin McDonnell, while Brooklyn’s brash Heavyweight star Jarrell Miller meets Polish legend Tomasz Adamek and three debutants grace the bill as Team USA talents Reshat Mati, Nikita Ababiy and Nkosi Solomon lace them up for the first time.

Along with these World stars and promising youngsters, Chicago fight fans will be able to back two of their own on the night, with former World Lightweight title challenger Jessica McCaskill in action on the bill along with unbeaten Bantamweight prospect Shawn Simpson.

Tickets for October 6 are on sale now priced $40, $60, $100 and $200 and are available from:

Briedis vs Mikaelian & Glowacki vs Vlasov Quarter-Finals in Chicago Nov 10

Season I star Mairis Briedis vs. Noel Mikaelian and Krzysztof Glowacki vs. Maksim Vlasov are the two Quarter-Finals on an incredible doubleheader when the World Boxing Super Series comes to the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, USA.

“I am really looking forward to fighting in Chicago,” said Briedis (24-1, 18 KOs). The Latvian hero is undoubtedly one of the favourites to take home Season II’s Ali Trophy in the 200-lb division.

“I am happy to be back in the World Boxing Super Series, and I am looking forward to fighting in front of a U.S. crowd. I am sure there will also be a lot of Latvians in the arena to help create a fantastic atmosphere.”

Briedis’ opponent, Germany’s Noel Mikaelian (23-1, 10 KOs), is eager to perform on the biggest stage – only a split decision defeat, in an IBF eliminator against Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, prevented him of participating in Season I.

“There are only world class fighters in this tournament, but I believe my ring IQ will give me the edge to win it,” said Mikaelian.

The second main event in Chicago on November 10 is a potent match-up between Poland’s former world champion Krzysztof Glowacki and Russia’s Maksim Vlasov.

“The plan is simple: take it all, give nothing back,” said Glowacki (30-1, 19 KOs)

The exciting southpaw fought Season I winner Aleksandr Usyk in 2016 – relinquishing the WBO belt over 12 rounds, he won the belt in 2015 via knockout against Marco Huck.

“I have been waiting for a long time for my chance, and I am full of power and great energy. I am going to win this tournament and become world champion again!”

Vlasov (42-2, 25 KOs), a fighter with success at multiple weights, likewise enters the quarter-final with great confidence after winning 12 straight fights since moving up in weight in 2015.

Tickets will be available to buy via TicketMaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000 on Monday 1 October. Fans can be alerted by email when tickets go on sale by signing up for Ticket Alerts here.

WARRINGTON VS FRAMPTON LEEDS PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES | IBF WORLD FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Boxing – Carl Frampton & Nonito Donaire Weigh-In – Europa Hotel, Belfast, Britain – April 20, 2018 Carl Frampton during the weigh in Action Images via Reuters/Jason Cairnduff

IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington and his challenger Carl Frampton faced off on the second leg of their press tour.

They meet in a stunning match at the Manchester Arena on Saturday December 22, live and exclusive on BT Sport Box Office.

Warrington’s home city Leeds hosted today’s event with the Carriageworks packed with his fans.

Former two-weight world champion Frampton has home advantage at the final press conference in Belfast tomorrow.

Here are a selection of quotes from today’s presser.

JOSH WARRINGTON

There could be easier fights, but I want the best in the division.

It is going to be deafening in Manchester and we have the Fight of the Year.

It is two fighters having it out, but I will still be world champion at the end of the year.

I won the English and Commonwealth title on the road and going to Manchester where its neutral is no bother. I think the support will be even.

Champion of the world has a lovely sound, but it’s just a title and I believe I can strive for more.

I watched Carl and I see things I can exploit and do things on the night to beat him.

We will come up with three or four game plans and I will adapt.

When the first bell goes respect goes out of the window and we will punch each others head in.

This fight doesn’t need animosity. If I started acting like a bell*** it would be out of character.

I did against Lee Selby because there was bad feeling between us and the teams. Things got nasty.

SEAN O’HAGAN (Warrington’s trainer and Father)

I always knew we had the beating of Lee Selby. The media made him up to be something he wasn’t.

This is a different ball game and a harder fight, but one we’re looking forward to.

When he beat Lee I just whispered, ‘Can we discuss my bonus?’ I’m still waiting so I’ll be having a tenner on Carl.

There is a lot of pay-per-view fights and this the best of the lot. It is a proper fight. Two lads who wont allow themselves to lose.

CARL FRAMPTON

If I win this fight it will mean more than any of my world title wins, because I have been written off.

I want to stick my fingers up to those who wrote me off after the Leo Santa Cruz loss.

People say I’m on slide but since teaming up with trainer Jamie Moore, promoter Frank Warren and MTK these are my prime years.

Josh thinks I’m not what I was and a lot of people think that after the Santa Cruz loss and a short camp for my fight against Horacio Garcia.

In my last two fights I’ve been as good as ever. If Josh wants to think I’m a shadow of my former self he can.

I am not daft and I know what it will be like on the night. It just going to be noise and I will use to my advantage.

Look back at interviews I was doing six years ago and I was counting the days to retirement. It was a job, but now I look forward to the gym.

I wasn’t enjoying it and still beating good fighters. That says a lot about me.

I expect this to be a tough fight and I need to be right physically and mentally.

For the Scott Quigg fight I did 220 rounds of sparring against bigger men, but Jamie has cut that in half and work on tactics and think that was a brilliant session after.

I may need the performance of my life and there isn’t an ounce of quit in either of us. It will be a case of toughening it out.

I will suss him out and work out game plans as the fight goes on.

I don’t have to hate Josh. I like him, but it is a fight and we will do whatever we can to win the fight and shake hands afterwards.

Things will be said in the build-up that will irk each other, but it happens and the only opponent I ever hated was Chris Avalos.

JAMIE MOORE (Carl Frampton’s trainer)

Carl does things that come natural like footwork and anticipation. There is a difference between elite and world class fighters. Carl is elite.

I wouldn’t want to change him in a big way because he was already phenomenal. It is more about decision making and setting tactics. This fight will come down to tactics.

I know nobody will beat Josh without being in a very tough fight, but I feel I have a very talented fighter in Carl.

Josh proved how good he was against Lee Selby and he is more than a pressure fighter. His work-rate will give anybody problems.

Tickets are now on sale for this blockbuster event at the Manchester Arena on December 22nd and are are available to purchase via Ticketmaster and Eventim.

Williams, Soto return to Foxwoods Oct. 20th

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (Sept. 26th, 2018) — CES Boxing returns to Foxwoods Resort Casino next month for the second time this year with a loaded fight card expected to produce yet another dramatic finish at the historic Fox Theater.

New Haven, Conn., fan-favorite Jimmy Williams (15-1-1, 5 KOs) headlines in an eight-round battle for welterweight supremacy against dangerous Bronx, N.Y., veteran Enver Halili (10-1, 3 KOs) while New Haven’s Edwin Soto(13-2-2, 5 KOs) returns in the eight-round co-feature against super welterweight Anthony Lenk (15-5, 7 KOs) of Niagara Falls, N.Y.

The event features both amateur and professional boxing, starting with the second installment of Jimmy Burchfield’s acclaimed USA Amateur Boxing Tournament on the preliminary card beginning at 6 p.m. ET followed by the loaded, nine-fight main card at 7.

Tickets are priced at $37, $47, $77 and $157 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.foxwoods.com, or www.ticketmaster.com; by phone at 401-724-2253 or 800-200-2882 or at the Fox Theater Box Office.

Williams returns to Foxwoods for the sixth time in his career and headlines for the first time since August of 2017. Following his first career loss in Nevada in April, Williams rebounded with a win over Colorado’s Christian Aguirre in June, dominating the fight from start to finish en route to a 60-53 unanimous decision win on all three scorecards.

“I’m very excited to be back headlining at Foxwoods,” Williams said. “I’m ready to put on a great performance for my fans and family. I know Halili comes to fight and this will be a fight my fans don’t want to miss.”

On Oct. 20th, he faces a tall task against the slick, elusive Halili, who returns to the ring for the first time in 11 months. Halili scored his biggest win in June of 2017 when he outclassed previously unbeaten welterweight Wesley Tucker over the course of eight rounds to score the unanimous decision victory, and recently competed for the WBC FECARBOX title against Raymond Serrano in November.

“This is going to be an action-packed fight,” Halili said. “I’m very excited, and I know on Oct. 20th I’ll be walking out of there with a victory.”

Also no stranger to the grand stage at Foxwoods, Soto continues his resurgence Oct. 20th in a long-awaited showdown against Lenk, who makes his New England fresh off a tryout with the recently-relaunched The Contender reality television series.

Soto also fought on the June 2nd event in the main event against New York’s Salim Larbi, which ended with Soto earning a split decision win, 75-74, 76-74, 74-76, after picking himself up from the canvas in the opening round and scoring a knockdown of his own in the sixth to turn the fight in his favor.

Since returning to the ring in October of 2017 following a two-year layoff, Soto has won his last three fights, including a knockout win over regional rival Ray Oliveira Jr. in February.

“I feel well-prepared for this fight,” Soto said. “My team and I have been training hard, like always. I feel ready, strong, confident and anxious to give my fans the great fight they want to see. I want to thank my fans for supporting me, because they know I am a warrior. They have seen me get in the ring and fight great battles. In Jesus’ name, we’ll come out victorious. Don’t miss this boxing. It’s going to be a great night.”

Lenk boasts a loaded resume featuring bouts against the region’s top 154-pounders, among them Mark DeLuca, Steven Martinez, Hector Vazquez and Ricardo Williams Jr., who have a combined record of 84-9. Promoted by Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Boxing, the 30-year-old Lenk was born in California and fought primarily out west at the beginning of his career, earning wins over contenders Boyd Henry, Fernando Rodriguez and Alberto Herrera during an impressive, three-fight win streak between 2011 and 2012.

“Edwin Soto is the next chapter in my boxing book,” Lenk said. “He is a strong, sturdy fighter who stands in my way. It’s going to be hard going on his home turf for people to see a close decision go to me, so I’ll have to make it known. I have 23 years’ worth of chapters just like this in my boxing book.

“I have had ups and downs in my career. This fight, I plan to make a statement that I’m here and I’ve always been here. Just like my first fight at the age of 7, I will finish this chapter the same way, with an exclamation point!”

In addition to the highly-competitive main event and co-feature, the Oct. 20th card features several hotly-contested regional rivalries, starting with what could be the showstopper in the welterweight division between unbeaten Derrick Whitley Jr. (4-0) of Springfield, Mass., and rising prospect Sharad Collier (1-0) of Hartford, Conn., who won his professional debut in June. The two put their unbeaten records on the line in a special six-round showcase as Whitley aims for his fifth win in 18 months while Collier steps up to face the 27-year-old right-hander in just his second pro fight.

Also in the welterweight division, Marqus Bates (4-2, 3 KOs) of Taunton, Mass., makes his Foxwoods debut in six-round bout against Carlos Hernandez (3-2-1, 2 KOs) of Bridgeport, Conn. Bates recently pieced together his most complete performance to date, punishing Springfield’s Mohammad Allam en route to a third-round knockout in May, and has now won back-to-back bouts. Hernandez steps into the ring for the first time in six years, but has won three of his last four, with the lone blemish a draw against veteran Josh Beeman in 2012.

Fan-favoriteMarcia Agripino (2-1-1) of nearby Ledyard is back for the second time since June and will fight her first six-round fight against the dangerous Stephanie Essensa (3-1-1) of Alberta, Canada. Agripino earned her first win since 2013 back in June when she defeated Kay Hansen of California via majority decision in a back-and-forth slugfest. Essensa, who also boasts a 2-1 record in mixed martial arts, has won two of her last three in boxing, including a big win over Mexican challenger Jacqueline Coutino earlier this month.

Providence, R.I., lightweight Nicky DeQuattro (3-1, 1 KO) makes his second Foxwoods appearance in a four-round bout against Muay Thai pro Geoffrey Then of Danbury, who steps inside the boxing ring for the first time, and Springfield lightweight Calixto Cruz makes his professional debut in a four-round bout against Providence’s Joseph Santana.

Fighing in separate undercard bouts, New Haven’s Elvis Figueroa (5-0, 2 KOs) returns to Foxwoods fresh off his win in June in a six-round bout expected to be announced later this week, and decorated Bridgeport amateur Jacob Marrero makes his professional debut in a four-round bout. The amateur preliminary card will be announced at a later date.

Cuban vs. Cuban: Livan Navarro and Armando Alvarez Ready for War at Heavyweight Factory’s “Rumble at the Rock 2” on Friday, Sept. 28 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino – Hollywood

Cuba’s undefeated Livan “Machine Gun Kid” Navarro (8-0, 5 KOs) loves a good test.

Never one to shy away from a challenge, the Miami (via Havana) welterweight will be in tough once again this Friday night, when he takes on fellow Cuban Armando “The Gentleman” Alvarez (18-1, 12 KOs) of Key West.

The rare Cuban vs. Cuban showdown, also Navarro’s first fight scheduled for 10 rounds, highlights a stacked undercard on Friday, Sept. 28, at the “Rumble at the Rock 2,” professional boxing event at the Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

Presented by Kris Lawrence and The Heavyweight Factory, in the night’s 10-round main event, Honolulu, Hawaii’s undefeated Logan “The Korican Kid” Yoon (12-0, 10 KOs) will defend his WBO-NABO Youth Junior Welterweight Championship against John “El Emperador” Rentería (16-4-1, 12 KOs) of Panama. In the 10-round co-main event, Miami via Ekibastuz, Kazakhstan’s Mussa “Warrior” Tursyngaliyev (7-0, 6 KOs) will face Monteira, Colombia’s Deivi “El Cabo” Bassa (20-5, 12 KOs) over 10 rounds for the WBA International Featherweight Championship.

Tickets for “Rumble at the Rock 2” cost $60, $100, $150, $250 and $500 VIP and are available through ticketmaster.com.

So, is Navarro ready for a former WBC Latino Welterweight Champion in just his ninth fight?

“He’s a good fighter, but I feel my style will overpower whatever his so-called experience advantage is,” said a confident Navarro. “I was 312-17 as an amateur and I’m already 8-0 as a pro. I’ve been brought in as an opponent, supposedly to lose, on a Golden Boy card and a PBC show in Miami, and I knocked both those guys out. I fight my best when people don’t think I can win.”

To prepare, Navarro has reunited with trainer Herman Caicedo and gone back to what works best for the Cuban power puncher.

“I’m coming to scrap. This won’t be chess match. We’re going to scrap. That’s my style. I come to fight. I wait on the KO and when I see my opening I take it.”

Navarro says he doesn’t mind being part of an unusual “Cuban vs. Cuban” showdown.

“I’ll fight anyone. I’ve fought Cubans all my life back home, so no, it doesn’t bother me. This is a business. You see Mexican vs Mexican and Puerto Rican against Puerto Rican, so why can’t it be Cuba vs Cuba? Good fighters should fight one another, and the cream will rise to the top. It’s all business when I step in the ring. I wish Armando all the luck in the world. He will need every ounce.”

Alvarez says he knows he looked vulnerable in his last fight, a nationally televised loss to undefeated Jaron Ennis in July, and that’s why Navarro is willing to fight him.

But Alvarez says Team Navarro has made a big mistake.

“I’m 100 percent injury free and mentally ready,” said Alvarez. “That’s what his team didn’t take into account. I fought Ennis with an injury that badly affected my performance. They’re expecting that Armando Alvarez to show up that night, but I’m ready to prove ‘The Gentleman’ is here and alive. He’s a good boxer and he comes to fight, but amateur and pro are two different things and he’s not ready.”

Alvarez says he also doesn’t believe in the unwritten code some fighters carry that says Cubans can’t fight each other.

“It’s rare for two Cubans to face each other, but I think the best should fight the best. I don’t believe in not fighting another Cuban. He’s Cuban from Cuba from Cuba. I’m Cuban too, but I was born and raised here and I think anybody can fight anybody else.”

Alvarez says he’s looking forward to getting back in the win column in front of a large group of his fans.

“I’ll have the majority of the supporters at the fight. I’ll have lots of family and friends. It always helps me when my fans are there live. It pushes me to go that much harder.”
