Victor Ortiz vs. John Molina Jr. Los Angeles Media Workout Quotes

LOS ANGELES (September 20, 2018) – Former welterweight world champion Victor Ortiz and hard-hitting John Molina Jr. showed off their skills at a media workout Thursday as they prepare to face off Sunday, September 30 in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions on FS1 and FOX Deportes live from Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.

The telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and features 2016 U.S. Olympian Karlos Balderas, who was in attendance at Thursday’s workout and faces New Mexico’s Jose Salinas, along with his brother Jose Balderas, who competes on the non-televised portion of the card.

The stacked night of PBC action on FS1 and FOX Deportes will also see unbeaten featherweight contender Brandon Figueroa taking on rugged veteran Oscar Escandon in a 10-round bout, 2016 British Olympian Joe Joyce battling Iago Kiladze in an eight-round heavyweight attraction and rising unbeaten prospects Efe Ajagba and Joey Spencer in separate showdowns.

Tickets for the event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Ringstar Sports, are on sale now and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.

Here is what the participants at the media event had to say Thursday from Fortune Gym in Los Angeles:

VICTOR ORTIZ

“John Molina Jr. is a warrior, and it’s going to be two warriors on fight night. This is another chance for me to do what I love to do and what I have the most passion in the world for.

“You have to keep that fire burning inside you to keep competing in this sport. You have to go in there 100 miles per hour. This is a sport and I’m going in there to destroy him, then we can go have lunch after.

“I have lots of respect for Molina, but this is still boxing. He’s in my way right now and I’m going to knock him out of the way.

“I have one big task ahead of me and that’s John Molina Jr. on September 30. I can’t focus on anyone else out there, as much as I may want to fight them. I have a tremendous challenge in front of me.

“I don’t feel that I have the size advantage. Molina is a big guy. I’m not too small or anything, but at the end of the day we’re going to have a good dance in that ring and there’s going to be no excuses.

“I’m working hard each day in camp to be ready for September 30. Whatever the coaches have been asking of me, I’ve been there and delivered.”

JOHN MOLINA JR.

“I know that Victor is going to be himself in there. We’re both veterans who have been been down this road before. He’s coming to win and that’s what excites me. I think everyone watching is going to get a treat on September 30.

“Victor is probably the physically bigger guy because he’s been at welterweight longer, but I think I carry the weight well. I’ve always been big for my weight classes so I think it will fit perfectly.

“Training is what I do. I’ve been down this road before so it’s really just built into my system to get in the gym and work hard. Everything has been going great. We’re on track with some hard work ahead to be ready for fight night.

“Victor deserves my undivided attention and he has it. Especially for this fight. He is a big strong guy who hits hard for 147-pounds. I never pick the easy guy when I move up in weight. My first fight at 140 was Lucas Matthysse and I expect fireworks for this fight as well.

“My ability to bounce back and deal with adversity in the ring is all about mindset. When I’m in that ring, I’m just 100 percent focused on doing what I have to do for my family. I’ve been blessed by boxing. I put it all on the line.

“I know I have to go through the fire every time I get into the ring. If I didn’t think that I’d be fooling myself. You can say what you want about Victor, but he’s always been in exciting fights and I’m going to have to deal with that style on September 30.”

KARLOS BALDERAS

“I envision myself going out there and breaking down my opponent little by little. I think we’ve kept the same kind of training going, but me and my brother are much more comfortable as pros now, so it’s gotten even more productive.

“I’m excited to keep working and getting my rounds in, while also having fun with this job I’m blessed to have. I’m not planning to let this fight go the distance and I’m going to take the opportunity to end it when I see it.

“Me and my brother both believe that the fight is really won in the gym. By the time you get up into the ring, it’s just sparring really. That helps me stay relaxed and focused on the work I’m there to do and not worried about anything going on around me.

JOSE BALDERAS

“I feel great going into this fight. I’ve learned a lot from each time I’ve gotten into the ring and I’m going to take that into this next fight to put on my best performance.

“My goal is always to go out there and be great. I’m ready to break my opponent down and do what I have to do.

“It’s exciting to be on the same card as my brother again. We definitely are still invested in each other’s fights. Hopefully we can each take care of business and be able to be there cheering each other on.”

RICHARD SCHAEFER, Chairman & CEO of Ringstar Sports

“It’s refreshing to see the level of respect from Ortiz and Molina. This is an extremely evenly matched fight with no clear favorite. These are fighters who can create a memorable night. It’s the perfect example of how styles make fights.

“Both of these men know how to entertain and are must-see television every time they step into the ring. Now they’re fighting each other and it’s got war written all over it. The fans watching on Sunday night and here in Ontario are in for a treat.

“I’m excited to see the continued development of Karlos Balderas on September 30. He is quickly making an impression throughout the sport and I believe he’s going to prove that he can live up to the promise in the not too distant future. Sunday will be another step toward what he can really accomplish.”

Kazakh Firepower: Alimkhanuly and Ualikhanov to Make Top Rank Debuts September 28 in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (Sept. 20, 2018) — A pair of former amateur stars from Kazakhstan, Janibek Alimkhanuly and Askhat Ualikhanov, will make their Top Rank debuts in separate bouts on Friday, Sept. 28 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. Alimkhanuly will face Carlos Galvan in a super middleweight contest, while Ualikhanov will take on Angel Hernandez in a super lightweight showdown on the undercard of IBF super middleweight champion Jose Uzcátegui’s 10-round non-title bout against Ezequiel Maderna and Jerwin Ancajas’ IBF junior bantamweight title defense versus Alejandro Santiago (ESPN+, 10:30 p.m. ET).

Alimkhanuly-Galvan, Ualikhanov-Hernandez, and other undercard bouts will stream live at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ — the new multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment in conjunction with ESPN.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Promotions, Joven Sports and MP Promotions, tickets for this all-action card are on sale now. Priced at $105, $78.75, $52.50, and $26.25, including facility fees, tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Oracle Arena box office. The Oracle Arena box office is open Monday-Friday from 12-5 p.m.

Alimkhanuly and Ualikhanov are managed by Egis Klimas, the Boxing Writers Association of America’s two-time reigning Manager of the Year.

“Janibek and Askhat are sensational talents who will be contending for world titles sooner rather than later,” Klimas said. “I am happy that American fight fans will be able to see them fight on ESPN+.”

Alimkhanuly (2-0, 1 KO), a southpaw who is trained by former world champion Buddy McGirt, represented Kazakhstan at the 2016 Olympics and advanced to the quarterfinal round. He fought roughly 300 times as an amateur, winning gold medals at the 2013 AIBA World Championships and 2013 Asian Championships. He made his pro debut on Oct. 29, 2016 with a first-round TKO against Milton Nunez. Alimkhanuly last fought in September of last year with a six-round unanimous decision against Gilberto Pereira. He promises to be more active under the Top Rank banner, and if all goes well against Galvan, he will fight at least one more time in 2018. The plan is for Alimkhanuly to eventually challenge for a world title at middleweight.

Ualikhanov (3-1, 2 KOs) suffered the only blemish on his record in his pro debut. He was controversially disqualified in the third round against Daniel Bastien for landing a punch on the break. In his last bout, on July 14 in Hollywood, Calif., he won a four-round unanimous decision against Darel Harris.

MIAMI, FL, September 20, 2018 — In the “REDEMPTION IN MIAMI” main event, former four-time world champion in three weight divisions and Olympic Gold Medalist YURIORKIS “El Ciclon De Guantánamo” GAMBOA will battle two-time world title challenger MIGUEL “Barreterito” BELTRAN, JR. in a ten round lightweight bout. In the co-feature, former three-time world champion in two weight classes JUAN “JuanMa” LOPEZ will clash with CRISTIAN RUBEN “Piedrita” MINO, also in a ten-round lightweight bout. “Redemption in Miami” will take place Saturday, November 10 at Marlins Park on the West Plaza in Miami, Florida and will be available live on pay per view, distributed by Integrated Sports Media, beginning at 9 pm ET / 6pm PT at a retail price of $24.95

“Redemption in Miami” is promoted by New Champions Promotions in association with Marlins Park. Ticket prices start at $60 and will go on sale Wednesday, September 26 at 10:00 am ET and be available at the Marlins Park ticket office and on line at www.marlins.com/boxing. Fight night doors will open at 6:00 pm and first bout will begin at 7:00 pm.

“I’ve been dreaming all of my life about bringing boxing to my people in Miami,” said Gamboa. “JuanMa and I went to a Marlins game last year and we fell in love with the atmosphere and talked about fighting here. Now it is reality.”

Gamboa (28-2, 17 KOs), from Guantanamo, Cuba now living in Miami, Fla., won Gold as a Cuban in the 2004 Olympic games and is a former featherweight world champion; former super featherweight world champion; former lightweight world champion and former unified world champion. Gamboa defected and made his professional debut in 2007, and two years and fourteen fights later, on April 17, 2009, became world champion, winning the World Boxing Association (WBA) interim featherweight title. After three successful defenses, Gamboa beat International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight champion Orlando Salido to become Unified Champion. Three fights later Gamboa moved up in weight and won the interim WBA super featherweight title and immediately moved up another weight class and won the interim WBA lightweight title, setting up a unification mega-fight against fellow undefeated Terrence Crawford. Gamboa rocked Crawford early in the fight in what has been considered Crawford’s toughest fight to date but eventually succumbed. Gamboa took his last bout on three weeks notice against former WBA Super Featherweight Champion Jason Sosa on November 25 at Madison Square Garden. Gamboa won a majority decision and told Sosa after the fight “I’m sorry i didn’t give you a better match, I only had 3 weeks to prepare. I needed 2 or 3 more weeks to lose the weight correctly. Of course the decision was good though.”

Miguel Beltran, Jr. (32-6, 21 KOs) hails from Los Mochis, Mexico, a boxing hotbed that has produced no less than five world champions. Miguel won twenty-six of his first twenty-seven fights leading to his first world title fight, on December 10, 2011, in his hometown Los Mochis, against International Boxing Federation (IBF) Super Featherweight Champion Juan Carlos Selgado. In the second round following an accidental head butt, the fight was stopped at the recommendation of the ringside doctor, was ruled a No Contest and Selgado retained the title. Beltran Jr. won his next fight, then was rewarded with another world title challenge, this time for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) super featherweight title against Roman Martinez at the Thomas & Mack Center on the undercard of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez. It was a classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico battle, they fought on the inside and fought on the outside and at the end, Martinez won the title by split decision. Since then Miguel has stopped four of his last nine opponents.

Puerto Rico’s “JuanMa” Lopez (35-6, 32KOs) from Caguas Puerto Rico, was his country’s Olympic representative in 2004. He made his professional debut in 2005 and in his twenty-second bout won the WBO super bantamweight title against Ponce De Leon by TKO on June 7, 2007 and made five successful defenses. He then moved up to featherweight and won the WBO featherweight title on January 23, 2010 against Steve Levueno. He successfully defended that belt twice. JuanMa was also named the Puerto Rican Fighter of the Year in both 2008 and ’09.

Cristian “Piedrita” Mino (19-2, 12 KOs) from Tigre, Buenos Aires, Argentina made his professional debut on December 19, 2014 and fought an incredible number of bouts, ten in his first calendar year, sinning all but one by knockout. He followed that up with nine more bouts in his second year – winning all by knockout.

The pay per view show will include four bouts in all.

Integrated Sports Media will distribute “Redemption in Miami” in the USA on cable, satellite and digital pay-per-view via iN Demand, Vubiquity, DIRECTV and DISH; and live-streamed worldwide on the FITE.TV app and website www.fite.tv, each way for a suggested retail price of only $24.95.

FORMER WORLD CHAMPION SERGIO MARTINEZ SPEAKS GLOWINGLY OF HIS TOP PROSPECT, JON FERNANDEZ, AHEAD OF SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION® FRIDAY NIGHT

SHAWNEE, Okla. (Sept. 19, 2018) – Former unified world champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez sees big things for his protégé Jon “JonFer” Fernandez as the undefeated super featherweight prepares for his toughest test to date in O’Shaquie Foster in the headlining bout of ShoBox: The New Generation this Friday, September 21, live on SHOWTIME (9:45 p.m. ET/PT).

Martinez, known for his extensive career and impact inside the ring and now at the helm of Maravillabox Promotions, has managed Fernandez since 2015. Since his pro debut at only 19 years old, Fernandez (16-0, 14 KOs) has climbed the prospect rankings while keeping his unblemished record intact, knocking out 88 percent of his opponents along the way. The 23-year-old Fernandez was named the No. 5 prospect in all of boxing on ESPN’s Top Prospects of 2017 list, and looks poised to challenge for a world title at 130 pounds in the near future.

This Friday’s quadrupleheader features eight prospects boasting a combined record of 81-2-1 and 56 KOs. The telecast opens with James Wilkins (5-0, 5 KOs), who is featured on SHOWTIME’s CRADLE OF CHAMPIONS documentary immediately preceding the ShoBox telecast at 9 p.m. ET/PT, taking on Misael Lopez (8-0, 4 KOs). Also included on the card is a battle between undefeated featherweights Irvin Gonzalez Jr. (10-0, 9 KOs) and Carlos Ramos (9-0, 6 KOs), plus and Brooklyn’s Wesley Ferrer (12-0-1, 7 KOs) colliding with undefeated lightweight Philadelphia prospect Steven Ortiz (8-0, 3 KOs).

This week, the former world champ Martinez spoke to SHOWTIME about what the future might hold for Fernandez and his stablemate, fellow-undefeated prospect Carlos Ramos:

SERGIO “MARAVILLA” MARTINEZ:

How much has Jon progressed since the last time we saw him on SHOWTIME in June 2017?

“It’s been over a year since last time Jon fought in the United States. I’ve seen him mature as a person and as a boxer. He’s been in three very difficult fights, he knocked out a Panamanian Olympian and won the WBC Silver belt. He’s now ranked in the top 10 at super featherweight by the WBC.”

How far away do you believe Jon is from challenging for a world title opportunity?

“With every fight, JonFer is a step closer to an opportunity to showcase his talent on the big stage. I think 2019 will be the year where we see him in a big fight against another top 10 opponent or challenging for a title.”

You have sparred with Jon in the past, how did that go? Do you still train with him?

“I train with JonFer a few days a week. He’s so strong. I think he’s stronger than most 130-pounders, and he can pack a punch. He’s a power puncher.”

What initially drew you to work with Jon in the beginning?

“As soon as I met JonFer, I knew I wanted to work with him. His talent stood up right away. I knew he was a hungry, five-star boxer with world championship fever. The perfect prospect.”

How do you feel about the matchup Jon has on Friday night against O’Shaquie Foster?

“Foster is his toughest rival to date, so naturally I’m a little nervous. But I know JonFer has what it takes to get the win. I have a second fighter on the card, Carlos Ramos. I’m always a little nervous when my boxers fight. It’s normal.”

Irvin Gonzalez is also undefeated, what does Carlos need to do for the victory?

“Carlos Ramos doesn’t have to do anything special to defeat Irvin Gonzalez. He just has to be himself. Ramos knows this is the biggest opportunity he has ever had and that this fight can change his life. That’s the best motivation he can have to bring his A-game to the ring on Friday.”

What are you thoughts on Carlos as a prospect?

“I have high hopes for Carlos. He has a lot of talent and is a southpaw, just like me. He reminds me of myself when I was starting. I believe in his potential.”

Presented by DiBella Entertainment, tickets for the event are priced at $60 for ringside, $40 for floor seats and $30 for general admission and can be purchased online at www.firelakearena.com or at the door on the night of the event.

Encarnacion (13-0, 10 KOs) was a heavily decorated amateur, Rivera already holds a stoppage victory over 2008 Olympic Silver Medallist Yanquiel Leon of Cuba. Castillo is the brother of Sampson Boxing’s former IBF World Female Super Bantamweight Champion, Katy Wilson Castillo.

“All three fighters are eager to take the same path their countrymen took to the world championship and I am going to provide it for them,” continued Lewkowicz. “Like I do with all my fighters, I am currently securing all of their P1 work visas, so they can fight in the United States starting in 2019.”

ELITE BOXERS ANDRADE, HANEY AND JACOBS TRAINING AT SNAC FACILITY WITH VICTOR CONTE AHEAD OF TITLE FIGHTS

SAN CARLOS, CA (September 18, 2018) – Victor Conte’s SNAC facility in San Carlos, CA, is hosting three elite training camps. Demetrius Andrade, Devin Haney and Daniel Jacobs are working extremely hard at the state-of-the-art training center.

SNAC’s world-renowned track coach and living legend Remi Korchemny, one of the best elite performance trainers, is providing the camps with his unique training drills and techniques.

Devin “The Dream” Haney (19-0, 13 KOs) is trained by his father, Bill Haney. He will face his toughest challenge to date when he battles Juan Carlos Burgos (33-2-2, 21 KOs) at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, CA, on September 28th, live on Showtime.

“I’m out here working hard with two of the best fighters in the world,” said Devin Haney. “There is no place like the SNAC facility and the training we are doing is very advanced. Remi is incredible, and I see all-around improvements in my strength and conditioning. I’m going to be at my very best on fight night”

Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (25-0, 16 KOs) is trained by his father, Paul Andrade. On October 20th, he challenges undefeated foe, Billy Joe Saunders (26-0, 12 KOs), for his World Boxing Organization Middleweight Title at the TD Garden in Boston, MA, live on Sky Sports.

“I’ve been working with Victor Conte for many years now and there’s no doubt, I’m with the best group of trainers in the world,” Andrade stated. “With Haney and Jacobs out here working side by side with me, it is very competitive, we all want to be first in all the drills. This is the type of training that will take a fighter to the next level. Billy Joe Saunders will find out what it’s like to face an elite athlete when he steps in the ring with me. He’s in big trouble.”

Last but certainly not least, Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs (34-2, 29 KOs) is trained by Andre Rozier. He squares up against Sergiy Derevyanchenko (12-0, 10 KOs) on October 27th, for the vacant International Boxing Federation World Middleweight Title at the Madison Square Garden Theater in NYC, televised live on HBO.

“I travel across the United States to train with Victor Conte at the SNAC facility with the best strength and conditioning coaches, Remi Korchemny and Mike Bazzel,” Jacobs said. “With Boo Boo and Devin in camp, training is very intense on a daily basis and the competition is having a major impact on my performance. In addition to the great training we are getting, we are also provided with some of the best supplements.”

“It’s a great honor to have three of the best boxers in the world training at my center,” said Victor Conte. “We have nicknamed the SNAC facility “The Bee Hive” because it is always buzzing with good energy. The SNAC brand is rapidly growing, and these three world class fighters are a major reason why.”

UNDEFEATED PROSPECTS CEM KILIC AND DEANDRE WARE TO FACE OFF IN OPENING BOUT OF SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION SEPTEMBER 28 LIVE ON SHOWTIME®

NEW YORK (September 18, 2018) – Undefeated middleweight prospect Cem Kilic will now face fellow undefeated prospect DeAndre Ware Friday, September 28, in the opening bout on ShoBox: The New Generation live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT from Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, Calif. The eight-round fight will now be contested at 168-pounds. Ware replaces Donnie Marshall, a natural middleweight, who elected to pull out of the fight when the scheduled 160-pound bout moved to 168 pounds.

In the previously announced 10-round main event, top undefeated lightweight prospect Devin Haney will face three-time world title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos. The co-feature of the second Friday of back-to-back ShoBox telecasts will feature an immediate rematch of one of 2018’s most controversial fights between lightweights Thomas Mattice and Zhora Hamazaryan (see full fight: https://s.sho.com/2OhsH9G

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” said Ware, who is managed by Split-T Management. “I don’t know much about him other than he seems to be a come-forward guy, but I’m not too worried about him. I’m in shape and ready. I’ve stayed in shape since my fight in June.

“This is the biggest stage of my career so far, and I’m excited to be able to show the world what I can do.”

Ware, (12-0-2, 8 KOs), of Toledo, Ohio, is coming off the most impressive performance of his career when he upset previously unbeaten Puerto Rican Olympian Enrique Collazo on June 9 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Unbeaten 30-year-old Ware has won four straight contests after back-to-back draws in early 2017. Kilic will be his second consecutive undefeated opponent.

A former collegiate football player at the University of Toledo, Ware turned professional in 2014 after an impressive amateur career where he competed in approximately 80 fights. In addition to his professional boxing career, the 5’9″ Ware also works fulltime as a firefighter in his hometown. Trained by Lamar Wright, Ware has sparred with fellow Toledo natives including former IBF World Lightweight champion Robert Easter Jr. and Tyler McCreary, the WBA No. 4 ranked featherweight.

HALL OF FAMER STEVE FARHOOD CELEBRATES 40 YEARS IN BOXING

NEW YORK (September 18, 2018) – International Boxing Hall of Famer Steve Farhood celebrates four decades in boxing this Tuesday, exactly 40 years since he started working exclusively in the business in 1978.

Farhood began his career writing for various boxing publications at London Publishing on Monday, September 18, just three days after Muhammad Ali regained the heavyweight title vs. Leon Spinks on Friday, September 15.

After launching KO Magazine in 1980 and serving as editor-in-chief of The Ring Magazine for nearly a decade, Farhood joined SHOWTIME in 2001 and has been a staple on the ShoBox: The New Generation series since its inception more than 17 years ago.

Over the past 40 years, Farhood has nearly seen it all in the Sweet Science. Now, as he prepares for consecutive Fridays of ShoBox telecasts, the lifelong New Yorker lists a handful of mythical matchups he’d love to see, regardless of the generation.

FARHOOD’S TOP MYTHICAL MATCHUPS:

Joe Frazier-Mike Tyson (heavyweight): The ultimate dream fight. No jabs allowed.

Roberto Duran-Alexis Arguello (lightweight): They were both 135-pounders, just not at the same time.

Sugar Ray Robinson-Sugar Ray Leonard (welterweight): Biggest crime in boxing history: There’s no video of Robinson as a welter, when he was at his very best.

Sugar Ray Leonard-Floyd Mayweather Jr. (welterweight): The best fighter I’ve ever covered versus the best fighter of this generation.

Jack Dempsey-Rocky Marciano (heavyweight): Boxing’s big men were smaller back in the day, but pound-for-pound, nobody hit harder than these two.

Marvin Hagler-Carlos Monzon (middleweight): All-timer vs. all-timer. My guess: Monzon’s style would be all wrong for Hagler. Match B-Hop (Bernard Hopkins) with the winner.

Salvador Sanchez-Eusebio Pedroza (featherweights): My opinion on this delicious matchup of Hall of Famers is an unpopular one: Pedroza wins on points.

Wilfredo Gomez-Manny Pacquiao (junior featherweights): In the early-‘80s, Gomez was as close to a perfect fighting machine as there was. But would his chin hold up vs. a 122-pound Manny?

This Friday on ShoBox: The New Generation, top undefeated super featherweight prospect Jon Fernandez (16-0, 14 KOs) will clash with O’Shaquie Foster (13-2, 8 KOs) in the 10-round main event of a four-fight card featuring eight fighters with a combined record of 81-2-1 with 56 knockouts.

Next Friday, September 28, ShoBox returns for a tripleheader headlined by 19-year-old blue-chip prospect Devin Haney (19-0, 13 KOs) taking on former three-time world title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos (33-2-2, 21 KOs).

Michael Dutchover Learning from WBA World Champion Danny Roman

Philadelphia, Penn. / Orange, Calif. (Sept. 18, 2018) – Junior lightweight Michael Dutchover (10-0, 7 KOs) has been receiving a priceless education in the lead up to his main event showdown with Bergman Aguilar (14-3-1, 4 KOs) this Friday night from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.

Dutchover, 20, has been sparring with reigning WBA super bantamweight champion Danny Roman in Los Angeles. The unbeaten prospect dishes on his relationship with Roman, his new found culinary skills, and what the fans in attendance and on the LiveStream can expect from the surging prospect this Friday night.

Tickets for “New Blood” are priced at $40, $60, & $100, and are available for purchase by calling 714-935-0900, or online at ThompsonBoxing.com.

You were originally scheduled to face Luis Lopez, but he dropped out last week due to illness. The replacement fighter is Bergman Aguilar of Nicaragua. How do you stay focused on what you need to do to win?

“It’s one of those things that happens in boxing, especially to young guys like myself. I don’t let it affect me. I have a new guy in front of me. That’s how I view it. He’s in my way in what I want to accomplish, which is to win a world title. He’s not going to stop me from getting to that point.”

You’ve been sparring with WBA champion Danny Roman. What’s it like to learn from one of the best?

“Every single time I spar with Danny I learn something new. He’s a skillful fighter. A very smart boxer. I love working with him. I’m happy to have him in my corner. He helps me how to think through my punches. He talks to me after we spar and we go over things. It’s great to learn from a world champion.”

If boxing wasn’t a career option for you, what would you get yourself into? We hear you’re developing new culinary skills.

“I love everything related to fitness and nutrition. So I think I’d go the nutritionist route or study to become a physical trainer. I’m already learning a lot about nutrition. I cook my own meals. I do my own meal prep. I’m eating a lot of lean meats and vegetables and making them taste great. I get down in the kitchen. I’m learning how to cook on the fly and it’s great. When I go back home to Midland [Texas] to cook for my family, they come away very impressed.”

How do you expect to perform on Friday night?

“From when the first bell rings, I’m going to fight my fight. I’m not shooting for a knockout, but if it’s there, I’ll take it. I’m in peak shape right now. Come Friday, it’s showtime.”

Dutchover is promoted by Banner Promotions and Thompson Boxing.

The livestream starts at 8:00 p.m. PT / 11:00 p.m. ET with Beto Duran as the blow-by-blow announcer and Steve Kim providing expert, color commentary.

LYON WOODSTOCK WARNS: “DON’T CALL OUT THE CANDYMAN”

LYON WOODSTOCK WAS in the closing stages of rehabilitation from what he initially believed to be a career-threatening back injury when he began to get wind of a challenge to him emanating from down south that he was more than happy to accommodate.

Earlier this year Woodstock suffered a severe trapped nerve in his back that left him stricken on the canvas at his Leicester training base awaiting medical assistance. He was consigned to months of painstaking recovery and strengthening before he was handed the date he craved for a return to the ring on the Josh Warrington undercard at Elland Road in May.

After defeating a stubborn Edwin Tellez in a useful workout over eight rounds the call from a Kent super featherweight counterpart grew louder and now we have some fight on our hands between two unbeaten contenders.
Lyon Woodstock v Archie Sharp takes place at the Leicester Arena on October 6, live and exclusive on BT Sport.

“We got a date and a steady workout against Tellez and then, all of a sudden, I start hearing that Mr Archie ‘not that’ Sharp is chatting bob saying ‘we asked for this fight, they declined it bla bla bla’,” recalled Woodstock in his latest Fighter Diary, posted on www.frankwarren.com

“Listen, what did he want me to do? Actually if I was allowed to fight him lying on the floor I would still have taken it, somehow.

“Nobody has ever called me out really. Even in the little spat I had with Mitchell Smith he wasn’t calling me out, so this is the first guy trying to talk my name.

“I was like ‘ok, let’s get it on then’. I said a date for the Leeds show because I knew I was on it and thought ‘f**k it, come on then’ and he was like ‘no, no, no, we’ll do it in September’.

“I was like ‘you’ve spoke my name now’. I am like the Candyman, you say my name three times and I’m gonna come and get you!

“But he was still on about September and I thought alright, fine, and left it at that. Now, here we are going to have a fight in early October.”

A fiery press conference soon followed, but Woodstock is at something of a loss to explain the roots of this new found rivalry.

“There really has been no history here, just him calling my name and that is what you get from these privileged boys, who like to do that.

“I just see it as another challenge, another moment for me to show everyone who I am and prove to everyone that I am the real business and I will be here for a long time as well.

“I haven’t seen a lot of him fighting but I have seen enough of him. How I see it is that my natural, typical style beats his every day. He is going to have to pull something special out of the bag to beat me.

“I keep hearing about his time as an amateur but that doesn’t mean sh*t. If you want to bring up stuff that I was doing at 16, what relevance does it have now.

“We’re in the pro game now and, really, you don’t want to know what I was getting up at 16!

“What we are doing now is big boys sport, a man’s game and only the grown ups will survive, so we will see.

“It is a good match-up though that people like to see and it is what I got into boxing for – the big fights, the big stages, the big crowds, big money, the glory, everything.

“It is what I am here for. I ain’t got no qualms and we will see how he handles himself. I don’t disrespect anyone, but if he chats any sh*t with his little pencil neck, he will drop himself in it. Don’t dig a hole and then jump in it!”

The Time Is Now’ is headlined by Jack Catterall v Ohara Davies. Leicester’s own, Lyon Woodstock defends his WBO European Super-Featherweight title against Archie Sharp. Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois takes on former world title challenger Kevin Johnson. Olympian and double gold medallist Nicola Adams will be fighting Isabel Millan for the Interim WBO World Female Flyweight Title and Leicester’s British Super-Featherweight champion Sam Bowen also feature on a major night of boxing televised live on BT Sport.

Tickets are priced at £40, £60, £100, £150, £200 and are available to purchase from Eventbrite and Ticketmaster.

KEVIN JOHNSON HAS ‘RENEWED HUNGER’ AFTER THE LOSS OF HIS FATHER

Kevin Johnson has new motivation going into his upcoming heavyweight clash with Daniel Dubois.

The boxing veteran shared the news that his father had died just a couple of weeks ago, but vows to continue his preparations for the fight and will use his family bereavement as fuel and cause the upset by defeating his largely fancied opponent.

“It’s given me so much renewed hunger to win this.” He says, alongside his new training strategies which Johnson has included in his day-to-day training regime. The American believes we will see ‘a new Kevin Johnson’ on October 6th.

The former world title challenger has shared the ring with some of the recent best in the heavyweight division including Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Kubrat Pulev and of course a world title tilt at then WBC Champion Vitali Klitschko in 2009.

Now 21 years old, Dubois is quickly becoming the biggest prospect on the heavyweight scene. The young London fighter has knocked out all eight of his opponents to date.

“He’s made a good start” admitted Johnson.

He continued: “But it’s a big transition to make, especially for a heavyweight. There is always a danger that they haven’t seen what an experienced, veteran fighter can bring to them. Let’s see what happens when he steps into that ring against me.

“He’s going to feel the pressure and how does he react to that? You only know whether you can cope with going up levels once you’re in them. It’s a hard business, and many young prospects have faltered because they find they can’t make the next step. He doesn’t know he will make it, he can’t know!”

Derrieck Cuevas to Face Silverio Ortiz at Heavyweight Factory’s “Rumble at the Rock 2” on Friday, Sept. 28 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino – Hollywood

The Heavyweight Factory’s latest promotional signing, undefeated welterweight power puncher Derrieck Cuevas, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, will face Mexican veteran Silverio Ortiz over 10 rounds on the undercard of “Rumble at the Rock 2,” the professional boxing event on Friday, Sept. 28 in the Hard Rock Event Center at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

A former decorated amateur, Cuevas (17-0-1, 14 KOs) has torn through his professional opposition thus far. Ortiz (37-22, 18 KOs) is a true spoiler, having faced a long list of world champions and undefeated fighters and taken a number of their “0’s.”

Presented by Kris Lawrence and The Heavyweight Factory, in the night’s 10-round main event, Honolulu, Hawaii’s undefeated Logan “The Korican Kid” Yoon (12-0, 10 KOs) will defend his WBO-NABO Youth Junior Welterweight Championship against John “El Emperador” Rentería (16-4-1, 12 KOs) of Panama.

In the night’s 10-round co-main event, Miami via Ekibastuz, Kazakhstan’s Mussa “Warrior” Tursyngaliyev (7-0, 6 KOs) will take on Monteira, Colombia’s Deivi “El Cabo” Bassa (20-5, 12 KOs) for the WBA International Featherweight Championship. In an “All Florida” bout, undefeated welterweight Livan “Machine Gun Kid” Navarro (8-0, 5 KOs), from Miami (via Cuba) will face once-beaten Armando “The Gentleman” Alvarez (18-1, 12 KOs) of Key West.

Tickets for “Rumble at the Rock 2” cost $60, $100, $150, $250 and $500 VIP and are available through ticketmaster.com.

Cuevas sat down for the following interview during a break in training:

How does it feel fighting in the USA mainland for the first time?
I am happy to be fighting here in Hollywood Florida with my new team. I’m in phenomenal shape and, come September 28, I plan on showing it big time.

What do you know about your opponent?
I know he’s a tough savvy Mexican veteran, but I will be prepared for anything he brings to the table. Mexico vs PR has always been a real draw when it comes to boxing and I invite all the Puerto Rican fans to come see me fight.

How long until we see you in a championship-level fight?
My promotional team at The Heavyweight Factory will take care of that for me. I have full faith in what my manager Alex Troya did when he brought me here. I’m working with my new trainer Jesse Robinson and within 18 months, I will hopefully be fighting for the world title. These people know what they’re doing and work hard for their fighters. I’m glad to be here.

Describe your style of fighting for the people who will be seeing you for the first time.
I don’t run away. I stand in the pocket and slip and make my opponents pay. I am working on power, explosivity and speed. That’s a dangerous combination. I can box. I can bang. I will get it on, how ever they want it. I want to be showman and a crowd pleaser.

How old were you when you realized you had above average punching power?
I must have been 13 and my coach at the time was telling others that I had pop in my punch. Then it just became part of my arsenal.

Would you ever consider an “All Puerto Rico” showdown with a fighter like Subriel Matias or Danielito Zorrilla?
Auntie and Daniel are my friends we spar often on the island. I have great respect for both guys, but once you step in the ring, it’s ‘go time’ no matter who it is.

Do you miss Puerto Rico when you train in the US?
I miss my family and my people but I’m a pro who is focused on getting to the top now and now is the time I will stay focused until I get to that big showdown for the title, coming soon to a theatre near you!

Open Letter To Fight Fans from Oscar De La Hoya

Dear Fight Fans,

On the night of Saturday, September 15, fans were set to be treated to what sports should be all about: the two best athletes in a sport squaring off against each other with the winner earning the title of the best in the business. This kind of an event – where an individual can be called the best in any sport – is truly rare.

Not only did the fight itself deliver all that was promised, against all kinds of pressure, Canelo Alvarez gave the performance of his lifetime to secure the unified middleweight championship of the world.

Unfairly criticized for not fighting “Mexican” enough in the first fight, he kept Gennady Golovkin on his heels all night, taking the action to the “boogeyman of boxing,” walking him down and controlling the pace.

Repeatedly ravaged for two positive drug tests that showed minor traces of clenbuterol – a common occurrence in Mexico due to the contamination of beef across the country – Canelo submitted to more than 20 drug tests in the lead up to the fight and passed them all with flying colors.

Saddled with a judge’s card of a year ago that he had nothing to do with; the pressure of millions of fans watching; and what many were describing as a must-win to stay relevant, Canelo delivered a near-flawless fight.

And yet…

It wouldn’t be boxing if thousands of keyboard warriors weren’t talking (or tweeting) complete nonsense in the hours and days after Canelo began to cement his legacy as an all-time great fighter.

Many have told me to ignore the haters; that I’ll never win. But, while I know I won’t convince many of them, allowing them to even partly soil what was a certain Fight of the Year; a mega-event seen by millions of people; and a virtuoso performance by boxing’s marquis fighter would do a disservice to the sport I love.

So allow me to respond to a few of the more absurd comments:

Golden Boy paid the judges to fix the fight.
Though I don’t think this deserves response, here are the facts: The three judges were chosen by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Given the result of the first fight, NSAC was under a lot of scrutiny to come up with the fairest group of judges possible. For the first time I know of, Golden Boy Promotions and Team GGG were even allowed to approve a pool of judges. They saw what everyone else did; a close, competitive fight and scored it exactly that way.

Golovkin landed more punches and therefore should have won the fight.
If landed punches were the difference between winning or losing a boxing match, we would have an incredibly different and less interesting sport. Clean punching, ring generalship, effective aggressiveness and defense are what the judges are looking for in determining the winner of a round. I’m obviously a promoter, but in the four areas that actually count in judging, I can’t find one where GGG was the victor.

Tom Loeffler’s statement that he doesn’t know if Golvokin can win a decision in Las Vegas.
Perhaps Tom is just looking to make GGG feel better, but regardless this is maybe the most disappointing comment, because it comes from someone who knows the sport. Of course, GGG can win a decision in Las Vegas. But 22,000 people aren’t going to crowd into the T-Mobile Arena to watch Golovkin fight and blast out the likes of Dominic Wade, Willie Monroe, Jr., or Vanes Martirosyan. He is going to need to fight a higher level of competition – and then fight better than that opponent – to earn a victory in the mecca of boxing.

Boxing is a wonderful sport that is coming back thanks to streaming technology and growing international interest. But, it is a sport that also faces competition, not only from the outside in the form of other, more-widely watched leagues, but from inside where the fractured nature of boxing has made it tougher and tougher for the best to face the best.

Just look at celebrity row to see how special Saturday night was. There, another best-in-sport athlete, Lebron James, joined by Will Smith, Mark Wahlberg and a huge group of other A-list celebrities to witness something special.

While everyone is entitled to his or her opinion (especially in boxing), let’s take a moment to appreciate what Canelo and GGG gave us on Saturday night and work towards doing it more often for the sake of the sport we all love so much.

LARA WANTS CANELO OR GGG NEXT

HOUSTON, TX (September 17, 2018) – Former WBA super welterweight world champion Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara (25-3-2, 14 KOs), felt inspired by the state of boxing after watching last Saturday night’s main event between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (38-1-1, 34 KOs) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin fought an amazing fight, it was a true classic.” said Lara. “I want to congratulate both of them for putting together such a tremendous effort to bring the spotlight back on boxing. It would be a great honor to fight either fighter, and I would love to challenge myself against them.”

Erislandy Lara has been training in Houston, Texas for his next fight with trainer Ronnie Shields, as he is working hard in the gym, getting ready for his next fight date.

“I am ready to make a statement and to challenge either fighter at middleweight, whether it is Gennady Golovkin or Canelo Alvarez in a rematch…I am ready!”

Berchelt and Roman Set for El Paso Rumble

EL PASO, Texas (Sept. 17, 2018) – WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel ‘El Alacrán” Berchelt and Miguel “Mickey” Roman went face-to-face on the arena floor of the Don Haskins Center, site of their Nov. 3 showdown that will, once and for all, settle this simmering grudge match.

Berchelt (34-1, 30 KOs), from, Cancun, Mexico, is the 26-year-old champion looking to make his fourth successful title defense. Roman (60-12, 47 KOs), from Juarez, Mexico, is a 32-year-old who will be making his third attempt at a world title.

Roman and Berchelt met the media on Monday in El Paso, the middle stop of a three-city press swing that, if anything, has stoked the rivalry between the two. Here is what they had to say 47 days away from one of the year’s most anticipated fights.

Miguel Berchelt

“I am very happy to be here. It’s my second time on ESPN. I am training very hard in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. When there are two Mexicans in the ring, the show is guaranteed to be great. This won’t be the exception.”

“In boxing, trash talk is normal. At the end of the day, we are fighters. It is going to be a great fight. The people will leave the arena happy because they are going to see a great fight. They are going to see a great champion in Miguel Berchelt.”

“Roman and I have wanted this fight for a very, very long time. He asked for this opportunity, and I am happy to give it to him. This is going to be a great fight, but I know it will end with my hands raised. I am young and hungry. It doesn’t matter that we’re fighting in his backyard. El Paso and Juarez are going to be my towns when it’s over.”

Miguel Roman

“I would like you to know I’m very happy. I feel great fighting for this belt against Miguel Berchelt. This is something that we’ve been waiting for. Now, it’s happening. I live near the border, and fighting here is like I’m fighting in my house. The people from El Paso, Juarez, and Las Cruces {New Mexico} always support me. On Nov. 3, my people are going to come and support me.”

“I’m fighting a great champion in Miguel Berchelt. He’s very strong and I respect him a lot. I gotta do what I gotta do. I gotta do my job. My experience, strength, and hunger to win this title will take me to victory.”

“He’s talking all of this stuff, that he’s going to take my head off and things like that. El Paso is my town. If he thinks he’s going to come in here and be talking like that, he’s got another thing coming.”

Berchelt-Roman and a soon-to-be announced co-feature will stream live in the United States beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ — the new multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment in conjunction with ESPN. How Teenage Fatherhood Shaped Mario Hernandez’s Boxing Career

ORANGE, Calif. (Sept. 17, 2018) – On Friday’s “New Blood” co-feature, fast charging bantamweight Mario Hernandez (7-0, 3 KOs) of Santa Ana, Calif. meets Ivan Gonzalez (4-1-1, 1 KO) of Mexico City, Mex. in what projects to be an all action fight set for 6-rounds.

The undefeated Hernandez is coming off an impressive, unanimous decision win over the previously unbeaten Jonah Flores in July.

Hernandez, 27, sat down with Thompson Boxing and talked about becoming a father at age 16, his full-time career at UC Irvine, and what fans can expect from him on Friday night.

Boxing runs in your family. Your dad and uncles boxed. Your dad had plans for you to get in the ring when you were in high school, but an unexpected development delayed that. Talk us through what happened.

“When I was 16, I got my girlfriend pregnant. She was 15 at the time and we were forced to grow up pretty quickly. I didn’t really have time to go to the gym and learn how to box because of this new found responsibility. That part of my life was on pause. We were fortunate in that we had tremendous amount of help from both of our families. Without their support, things would have been a lot different and I might never have gotten the chance to box.”

[Hernandez would later marry his girlfriend Stephanie and they would have another child. They have an 11-year-old girl and a boy who is four-years old].

By 21, you still had the itch to get inside the ring and pursue a career in boxing. How excited were you to launch this new chapter in your life?

“I was really pumped to finally do it. By then my daughter was nearly six and my wife Stephanie and I had already obtained our associates degrees from Santa Ana College so we were in a better place financially. It made sense to pursue the dream of being a pro boxer. I’ve loved the sport ever since I was little so I’m having a great time with it.”

A lot of boxers that are just starting their careers supplement their boxing income by working full-time. You work in the parking and transportation department at UC Irvine. How do you manage two careers simultaneously?

“Working full-time adds a lot of structure to my life. I’m lucky that I work an early shift at UC Irvine. I come in at 6 a.m. and leave by 2:30 p.m. Once I’m done, I head straight to the gym [TKO Boxing] and I’m there from 3-6 p.m. It requires a lot of sacrifice on my part in that the hours that I’m at the gym I could be spending it with my family. That’s really the toughest part, being away from your wife and kids.”

On Friday night’s opponent, Ivan Gonzalez.

“I try to focus on the game plan and do what I need to do to win. The plan is to put the pressure early. Start to the body early and break him down every round. I need to make him feel my punches. More than anything I love to put on a show for the fans. I want to keep them coming back. I’ll never be in a boring fight. My style is too aggressive and I think fans respect that about me.”

Tickets for “New Blood” are priced at $40, $60, & $100, and are available for purchase by calling 714-935-0900, or online at ThompsonBoxing.com.

The “New Blood” main event features top junior lightweight prospect Michael Dutchover (10-0, 7 KOs) going against Bergman Aguilar (14-3-1, 4 KOs) in a battle set for 8-rounds.

All fights will be live streamed on TB Presents: New Blood via our Facebook page, YouTube channel, and ThompsonBoxing.com.

The livestream starts at 8:00 p.m. PT / 11:00 p.m. ET with Beto Duran as the blow-by-blow announcer and Steve Kim providing expert, color commentary.

HEFFRON READY FOR “ONE-DIMENSIONAL” WELBORN

MARK HEFFRON insists he is already prepared to rip the British Middleweight title from Jason Welborn.

Heffron’s promoter Frank Warren won the purse bids to stage Welborn’s (24-6) second title defence and the fight will take place before the end of this year.

Heffron (20-0) will have a warm-up at Leicester’s Morningside Arena on Saturday October 6 before the biggest test of his career.

The Oldham puncher who has KO’d 16 of his victims said: “Welborn is pretty one-dimensional, comes forward, looks solid and it is a fight I cannot wait to happen.

“I am definitely the bigger, stronger fighter and if he wants to come and meet me in the centre of the ring he’ll realise I’m strong.”

“I have been a long time waiting for this chance so I am absolutely buzzing. I couldn’t be more ready.

“I have spent time boxing on small shows and now this fight will put me on Frank’s big TV shows. I am hoping it is going to be on the Josh Warrington-Carl Frampton card in December

“Fighting on small hall shows and being down the bill on bigger shows has been a great experience and done me good.”

Heffron, 26, has been a professional for eight years and is targeting world ranked Martin Murray if he gets past Welborn.

He added: “It is one step at a time and all about getting the right fights, but next year if all goes well against Welborn I’m looking at facing men like Martin Murray.

“I want to win the British title, make a defence and then move on to men like Martin.”

Heffron admits that he has often been accused of jumping trainers during his career, but insists he’s settled under Robert Rimmer.

He explained: “My manager Kevin Maree helped me out for the last couple of fights and now I am with Robert.

“I get plenty one-to-one time with him and he is always varying training away from the gym with different runs and swimming. There is something different every day.

“It looks like I have jumped from gym to gym, but I have been using different gyms when I haven’t had a fight date.

“I haven’t actually had lots of trainers like people think because I have been using different gyms when I haven’t had a fight.”

Birmingham’s Welborn, 32, took the British title from Tommy Langford on a split decision in May. he repeated that win with another split decision in their rematch earlier this month.

Brandon Robinson stops Ernest Amuzu in three rounds in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA (September 17, 2018) -Surging super middleweight Brandon Robinson won his 11th straight bout as he took out Ernest Amuzu in round three of their scheduled eight-round bout that headlined a nine-bout card this past Friday night at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

The spectacular show was promoted by King’s Promoted and was streamed live all over the world on Facebook Fight Night Live. -Note–The show can be viewed by clicking here.

Robinson of Upper Darby, PA bided his time until in round three, when he landed a nice body shot that drove Amuzu into the corner. That set up a furious flurry by Robinson. Robinson rocked Amuzu several times until he was defenseless, and the bout was stopped at 2:04.

Robinson is now 11-1 with eight stoppages. Amuzu of Prichard, Alabama is 24-4.

“It was a good fight. Ernest Amuzu came to fight, and he was a worthy opponent. We work hard in the gym and the reward is even better,” said Robinson. “The finish came from a jab, and then I touched the body a couple of times. We started to wear him out, and that was that. A knockout is always great. I want to fight Derrick Webster for the number-five spot in the IBF. It is nothing personal just business. I know that I can beat him.”

In the exciting co-feature, Terrel Williams registered three knockdowns en-route to a ten-round unanimous decision over David Grayton in a welterweight contest.

Williams scored a knockdown in round one from a perfectly placed right hand. A round later, it was another straight right that put the southpaw Grayton the canvas. Garyton began to mount a comeback in the middle rounds as he tried to will himself back into the fight.

In round six, Williams gained back the momentum as yet another right hand sent Grayton down. That knockdown seemed to actually fuel Grayton as he did his best work over the next few rounds. Williams came back to have a good round ten and came home home with the victory by scores of 98-90, 98-89 and 97-92.

Williams of Los Angeles, California is now 17-0. Grayton of Washington. D.C. is 15-3-1.

Three-time Olympian, Anvar Yunusov was impressive as he dropped Angel Monreal twice in round one, and got the stoppage win at 2:39 of that opening frame,

Alejandro Jimenez won a four-round unanimous decision over Jerrod Miner in a bantamweight bout.

Williams of Washington, D.C. is 3-0-1. Fatulla of Salt Lake City, Utah is 1-2.

Daiyann Butt remained undefeated by winning a four-round unanimous decision over Anthony Smith in a junior welterweight fight.

Butt of Philadelphia won by scores of 40-36 on all cards, and is now 2-0. Smith of Fresno, California is 1-3.

Yueri Andujar made an impressive pro debut by taking out previously undefeated Crystian Peguero in the 3rd round of their scheduled four-round featherweight bout.

Andujar used his height to land wicked combinations that hurt Peguero throughout the contest.

The fight culminated in round three when Andujar landed a booming uppercut that rocked Peguero. With Peguero hurt, Andujar landed three more crushing shots, and the bout was stopped at 2:06.

Andujar of Reading, PA is 1-0 with one knockout. Peguero of Philadelphia is 2-1.

James Bernadin made a successful pro debut with a 3rd round stoppage over Christopher Burgos in a super featherweight battle.

In round two, Burgos began to bleed under his left eye. In round three, Bernadin landed a right-left combination that was followed by a booming right to the head that dropped Burgos. Burgos got to his feet, but wobbled and the fight was stopped at 2:19.

November 3: Berchelt and Roman Set For Toe-to-Toe Battle in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (Sept. 15, 2018) – They have talked the talk. The time to throw down is near.

For Miguel “El Alacrán” Berchelt and Miguel “Mickey” Roman, this is the fight they demanded, a throwback all-Mexican battle that promises to deliver on the pre-fight bluster.

Berchelt will make the fourth defense of his WBC super featherweight title against Roman on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Don Haskins Center on the campus of The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Promotions and Promociones del Pueblo, tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. MDT. Priced at $250, $150, $75, $45, and $35, tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, and in person at the UTEP Ticket Center.

“Top Rank is very pleased to be able to present a truly great championship fight between two Mexican warriors in the great city of El Paso, which has hosted so many significant boxing events in the past,” said Top Rank CEO Bob Arum.

“I have wanted this fight for a very long time,” Berchelt said. “Roman has been talking a lot. I can’t wait to be in the ring with him. I am happy to fight in El Paso, which is the perfect location for a fight like this. I will show all the fans that I am on my way to becoming one of the great Mexican champions.”

“Berchelt is in for a big surprise,” Roman said. “He’s never seen a Mexican warrior like me before. The fans are going to be on my side, and I know I will be the new WBC champion.”

Berchelt (34-1, 30 KOs), a Cancun native who now resides in Mérida, is an eight-year pro who is equally adept at boxing and brawling. The only hiccup on his record occurred on March 15, 2014, when a left hook from Luis Eduardo Florez put Berchelt down in the opening round. While many observers felt the stoppage was a bit premature, Berchelt rebounded to win his next nine bouts by knockout, including winning a WBO interim 130-pound title, before challenging Francisco Vargas for the WBC super featherweight title on Jan. 28, 2017. In one of the year’s best fights, Berchelt landed more than 400 punches, breaking down Vargas en route to an 11th-round knockout victory. In his first title defense, he outboxed Takashi Miura to score a wide unanimous decision win. Berchelt is 2-0 in 2018, most recently knocking out former world champion Jonathan Barros in the third round in a fight that streamed on ESPN+.

Roman (60-12, 47 KOs), from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, is a 15-year pro whose back-and-forth battles have earned him a reputation as one of the sport’s most reliable action stars. He’s fought a litany of the sport’s top fighters from 122 to 135 pounds. In a roughly seven-month stretch from November 2013 to June 2014, he scored knockout victories over former world champions Daniel Ponce De Leon and Juan Carlos Salgado. Roman, who previously challenged for world titles at featherweight and lightweight, will be making his third attempt at a world title. He made an impression on American fight fans when he fought Miura on the Berchelt vs. Vargas undercard. Despite being knocked out in the 12th and final round by Miura, Roman battled through a vicious cut around his right eye. Roman is 4-0 since the Miura defeat, a stretch that includes a TKO win against former two-weight world champion Orlando “Siri” Salido.

JOSH WARRINGTON MAKES FIRST DEFENCE OF IBF WORLD FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP AGAINST CARL FRAMPTON

Josh Warrington will defend his IBF World Featherweight title against Carl Frampton at the Manchester Arena on 22nd December, live on BT Sport Box Office.

Warrington (27-0) became Leeds first ever world champion when he upset the odds and defeated Lee Selby at Elland Road back in May.

The undefeated 27-year-old will now be involved in yet another huge domestic clash this year when he faces the current interim WBO World Featherweight champion, Frampton (26-1) subject to IBF sanctioning.

“The Frampton fight really appeals to me and it will be another big scalp for me.” said the IBF Featherweight champion.

“I went over to Windsor Park to watch Carl fight a few weeks ago, I wouldn’t have gone over there if I wasn’t interested in the fight. There was easier routes I could have taken like having a voluntary. Frampton and Selby in the same year would be a massive achievement.

“It’s about keeping the momentum going and I just believe I can beat Carl. I am just as confident in beating Carl as I was beating Lee [Selby]. These are fights that the British public want to see, I’m a world champion and when you are world champion you want to fight the best and Carl is a name who is up there.”

The fight will take place in neutral territory when both sets of boxing fans make the trip to Manchester on 22nd December. Both fighters have proved in recent times that they are two of the best supported boxers in Britain. Over 20,000 Warrington fans filled up Leeds United’s Elland Road in May whilst Frampton sold out Northern Ireland’s national stadium, Windsor Park in August.

“Me and Warrington have big fan bases that make a lot of noise, so I think first and foremost the atmosphere is going to be fantastic and possibly a bit hostile as well.” said Frampton.

‘The Jackal’ will have the opportunity to become world champion once again, when he faces Warrington. The Belfast man has been without a world title since his narrow points defeat to Leo Santa Cruz in Las Vegas in January 2017. If victorious, it will be Frampton’s fourth world title in two weight divisions in which has been already a very successful boxing career.

“I’ve done a lot more in my career than I thought I would have when I turned professional. I’m very proud of my career but I believe I still have more to give and want to keep going as long as I can. I will add my fourth world title and go on and unify again.

“You’re going to see two hungry guys in their prime, Warrington has just won this world title and isn’t going to give it up easily. I know what it’s like to be a world champion and I want that feeling back again, I think there is going to be fireworks in this fight.”

More information on how to purchase tickets for Warrington v Frampton will follow soon.

Here’s what today’s participants had to say at the press conference:

CHUCK LIDDELL, Mixed Martial Arts Legend:
“I know Tito is hoping that I’m a shell of the man I was because that’s the only way he would have a chance against me. But he’s going to find out in November that I’m not. I still hit just as hard and I wrestle just as well. He’s going to get knocked out. Thank you guys for having me. I’m excited to be back in the sport. I’m excited to prove to everyone that you can do anything you put your mind to. I’m going it knock him out!”

TITO ORTIZ, Mixed Martial Arts Legend:
“On November 24 and live at the Forum, I will have the opportunity to put you out once and for all. I fought Chael Sonnen last year. I choked him out in two and a half minutes. He’s still in a heavyweight tournament and he’s still beating guys. Chuck hasn’t fought in over ten years. I see the opportunity to finally shut this guy up and finally get my hand raised on my terms.”

BROADWAY BOXING PARTICIPANTS FIGHTING ON SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 AT BROOKLYN’S KINGS THEATER PREDICT THE CANELO-GOLOVKIN REMATCH

New York, NY (9/14/18) – On Saturday, September 29, Broadway Boxing will make its debut at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY, with a stacked card featuring many local prospects. Junior lightweight Melissa St. Vil, junior featherweight Khalid Twaiti, junior lightweight Jude Franklin, super middleweight Edgar Berlanga, junior welterweight Josue Vargas and junior middleweight Justin Biggs, all from Brooklyn, will compete along with junior middleweight Mathew Gonzalez from Queens, NY, and Uzbekistan Olympian heavyweight Bakhodir Jalolov, now residing in Los Angeles, CA.

Tickets for Broadway Boxing, presented by DiBella Entertainment and Uprising Promotions in association with The Real Deal Boxing, priced at $150, $125, $100, $60 and $35, are ON SALE NOW and can be purchased in person at Kings Theatre or online HERE. The Kings Theatre is located at 1027 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226. Doors will open on the night of the event at 6:00pm. More information can be found on their website, www.KingsTheatre.com.

The exciting card will be broadcast on LIVE.DBE1.COM, part of the SportsLive OTT service as part of a partnership with CBS Sports Digital. Fans can subscribe to the event for a discounted cost of $4.99 by visiting live.dbe1.com.

Broadway Boxing is sponsored by Nissan of Queens, OPTYX, Azad Watches, Christos Steak House, Gagliardi Insurance, Venum and Medical Arts Radiology.

With the Canelo-Golovkin rematch tomorrow, the Broadway Boxing fighters gave their predictions on the highly anticipated middleweight championship showdown:

MELISSA ST. VIL (10-3-4, 1 KO) – JUNIOR LIGHTWEIGHT – BROOKLYN, NY

“I think Canelo is going to win because of his speed, movement and athleticism. Golovkin has been slowing down in recent fights. This may be the fight when he gets old.” WINNER: CANELO

KHALID TWAITI (3-0, 2 KOs) – JUNIOR FEATHERWEIGHT – BROOKLYN, NY

“I believe Golovkin will be victorious by decision. I feel like he has a mental edge knowing that Canelo got caught using illegal substances. I think Golovkin will win most of the later rounds, which will make the difference in the fight.” WINNER: GOLOVKIN

JUDE FRANKLIN (8-0, 7 KOs) – JUNIOR LIGHTWEIGHT – BROOKLYN, NY

“I think Canelo is going to win. He’s more skilled and a lot smarter than Golovkin. I don’t think it’s a good idea for him to stand and trade punches with Golovkin, but if he boxes and uses his skills, he should win.” WINNER: CANELO

BAKHODIR JALOLOV (1-0, 1 KO) – HEAVYWEIGHT – MIAMI, FL/SARIOSIYO, UZBEKISTAN

“This is a very tough fight for both fighters, but I believe the youth and ring intelligence of Canelo will lead him to victory.” WINNER: CANELO

EDGAR BERLANGA (8-0, 8 KOs) – SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT – BROOKLYN, NY

“I think Canelo will box GGG the first half of the fight and look to not get hit. Then as GGG tires a bit, I think he’ll stand toe to toe and fight him the second half. I think it will be a close fight and end in a decision victory for Canelo.” WINNER: CANELO

MATHEW GONZALEZ (6-0, 4 KOs) – JUNIOR MIDDLEWEIGHT – RIDGEWOOD, QUEENS, NY

“I think it’s a 50/50 fight and it will come down to who has the better game plan. I believe their skill sets are pretty much the same. If it goes the distance I go with Canelo because he is a little bit better of a boxer but it only takes one punch and if it turns into a brawl GGG will win by knockout. It’s a tough pick but I give the edge to GGG.” WINNER: GOLOVKIN

JOSUE VARGAS (11-1, 7 KOs) – JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT – BROOKLYN, NY

“I believe GGG is more confident now than the first fight because I feel, even though it was a draw, that he won that fight. I think he’s going to bring it to Canelo and perform even better this time. I don’t take anything away from Canelo, he is a great fighter and it is a 50/50 fight but the better man come Saturday night will be GGG.” WINNER: GOLOVKIN

JUSTIN BIGGS (4-0, 4 KOs) – JUNIOR MIDDLEWEIGHT – BROOKLYN, NY

“If the fight goes the distance, I got Canelo. If there is a knockout, I got GGG. I can’t pick one or the other, but I’m excited for Saturday and good luck to both fighters!” WINNER: UNDECIDED
