Undefeated Super Bantamweights Marcus Bates and Raeese Aleem battle in co-feature bout This Friday Night at the 2300 Arena In Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA (April 4, 2018) – Two undefeated super bantamweight prospects will put their record on the line for when Marcus Bates (8-0-1, 7 KOs) of Washington, DC takes on Raeese Aleem (10-0, 5 KOs) of Las Vegas in a terrific eight-round co-feature bout that will take place THIS FRIDAY NIGHT at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

The 7 bout show is promoted by King’s Promotions.

In the main event, rising super middleweight Brandon Robinson (9-1, 7 KOs) of Philadelphia will take on Oscar Riojas (16-8-1, 5 KOs) of Monterrey, Mexico in a bout scheduled for eight-rounds.

Bates and Aleem have to be commended for taking this fight, as fighters in this day and age seemingly stay way from fellow undefeated foes until later in their careers.

They are both ready for what could be a career accelerating fight on Friday.

ON TRAINING CAMP AND THEIR OPPONENT

Bates –“Everything is great. I don’t know much about Aleem, I am not much for watching tape of my opponents, I don’t worry about them, they have to worry about me.”

Aleem– “Training went well. I had good sparring for this fight. I know he is from Washington, DC. that’s about all I know about him.”

ON FACING AN UNDEFEATED OPPONENT EARLY IN THEIR CAREER

Bates–“I want to be the best. For that, I want to fight the best, and even though I have only 9 fights, I am ready to fight anyone.”

Aleem–“It doesn’t matter who is in front of me. I have been looking to fight other undefeated guys, but they have been ducking me and not taking those fights for various reasons. Bates accepted the fight, and it is going down on Friday.

ON FIGHTING IN PHILADELPHIA

Bates–“I have fought in Philly twice already, and this will be the 3rd time. It is a great crowd there, and they have shown me love. It makes me want to go in there and fight.”

Aleem–“To be able to fight in Philadelphia is a good accomplishment. I have fought most of my fights in the Midwest, so it is a great opportunity to make some new fans.”

WHAT DOES A WIN DO FOR YOUR CAREER

Bates–“I am focused on this fight, and I only take 1 fight at a time. After this win, I will talk to my manager and promoter and see what is next. It’s going down, and someone is getting knocked out. My fans can follow me on Instagram at _Dream_Crusher_Bates.

Aleem–“A Win does a lot. It opens up other doors. I have mentally put in a lot of hard work and focus to stay undefeated. Not only winning, but looking good is a must. You will not see any sloppy performance out of me on Friday. April 6th, I am going in there for 8 hard rounds. I will put everything on the table”

Colby Madison (6-0-1, 4 KOs) of Philadelphia fights Guillermo Del Rio (2-2, 2 KOs) of South Houston, TX in a six-round heavyweight battle.

Joshaphat Ortiz (2-0, 1 KO) of Reading, PA fights Evgueny Metchenov (0-1) of Forestville, MD in a junior light bout scheduled for four rounds.

Poindexter Knight (2-0, 2 KOs) fights Vincent Floyd (3-4-1, 2 KOs) in a battle of Philadelphia based welterweights.

Rasheed Johnson (3-1, 1 KO) of Philadelphia fights Denis Okoth (1-0-1, 1 KO) of Siaya, KE in a welterweight bout.

QUOTES: JARRELL MILLER NEW YORK CITY MEDIA LUNCH

BROOKLYN, NY (April 4, 2018) Undefeated heavyweight contender, Brooklyn’s Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller(20-0-1, 18 KO’s), hosted a media lunch in New York City on Tuesday, April 3 to discuss his upcoming, highly anticipated 12-round clash with former world title challenger Johann ‘The Reptile’ Duhaupas,(37-4-0, 24 KO’s), of Abbeville, France set for Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING and televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing (10:00 p.m. ET/PT).

Presented by Matchroom Boxing USA, Miller vs. Duhaupas is the co-feature at the massive ‘Straight Outta Brooklyn’international boxing event and will be contested as a WBA World Heavyweight Title Eliminator. Miller is currently world ranked #3 by the WBA, WBO and IBF.

“There’s a lot of talk about other fights for me after April 28 but I’m going to continue focusing on Johann Duhaupas and not let anything affect my training. Of course I’d like the fight with Anthony Joshua.”

“I want to be a world champion in and out of the ring, not just be a heavyweight champion but live that life, giving back when I can like my work with cancer survivor Lili Weaver and I’m honored that HBO got behind that. HBO has done a great job with me and I respect them very much.”

“I was given a chance and people helped me and I want to give back when I can, it’s part of who I am as a person outside the ring.”

“I want to show Eddie Hearn and HBO what I can do in the ring every time out. I’m 310 right now but I’ll be 290 when I get in the ring, I’m a big hitter and I’ll prove it in the ring on April 28 against Johann Duhaupas or anyone else that gets in the ring with me.”

“Deontay Wilder has great punching power but Ortiz was too old to compete with him for 12-rounds. When Deontay faces a young hungry bull like myself it will be a different story.”

“Lucas Browne didn’t want to be in the ring, he was unprepared and out of shape. Dillian Whyte is not a ferocious puncher but he did what he was supposed to do however Browne wasn’t’ even trying.”

“I feel asleep watching Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker, it wasn’t a very exciting fight. Joshua wasn’t going to lose a fight in England on the scorecards. AJ has been given gifts from the amateurs through the pros. His whole career has been in England. Come to Brooklyn AJ and

I’ll show you what’s really up!”

‘Fighting smaller or older boxers isn’t going to test AJ, fight someone like me and I’ll take all his belts before leaving the ring.”

Headlining‘Straight Outta Brooklyn’, former Middleweight World Champion and BROOKLYN BOXING Ambassador DANIEL JACOBS, (33-2-0, 29 KO’s), returns for a 12-round middleweight showdown against undefeated world ranked Polish contender MACIEJ SULECKI, (26-0-0, 10 KO’s) televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Stevenson (5-0, 2 KOs), from Newark, N.J., will have his hometown fans in the crowd when he makes his second appearance of 2018. His opponent in the scheduled eight-round featherweight bout is undefeated Roxberg Riley (12-0, 6 KOs) of Dallas, Ga. Stevenson is coming off a shutout unanimous decision victory over Juan Tapia on Feb. 16 in Reno, Nev.

“I’m excited to head back to the East Coast for my second fight of the year,” Stevenson said. “I have family in Philadelphia and it’s close to my hometown, so I know I will have a lot of support on April 28. I’m going to put on a great show for them and everyone at The Liacouras Center. It’s important to me to stay busy, so I’m ready to get right back at it after my first eight-rounder in February.”

Conceicao (6-0, 4 KOs) will fight Alejandro Torres (6-1, 3 KOs) of Calgary, Canada, in an eight-round super featherweight bout. In his last bout, on Feb. 16 in Reno, Nev., Conceicao saw his four-fight knockout streak come to an end, but he still managed to outpoint previously undefeated Ignacio Holguin by unanimous decision.

“I’m always looking for the knockout, and this time will be no different,” Conceicao said. “Fans can expect an aggressive and intelligent Robson in the ring. I’m hungry, and I want to bring the world championship belt to Brazil in 2018.”

Adorno (6-0, 6 KOs), from Allentown, Pa., has scored five first-round knockouts, most recently stopping Ivan de la Madrid in the opening round on the St. Patrick’s Day card at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. He will face Jorge Padron (3-1, 3 KOs) of Agua Prieta, Mexico, in a six-round super featherweight bout.

“I am pumped to be on a card with such great prospects, including myself,” Adorno said. “Most importantly, it’s a short drive from Allentown, and I will have my family and friends there cheering me on.”

Carto (14-0, 11 KOs) is no stranger to fighting in the City of Brotherly Love, having boxed there 11 times as a pro. He will fight in an eight-round bantamweight bout against an opponent to be determined. Carto has Philadelphia boxing in his blood. His grandfather, Frankie Carto, was a lightweight contender in the 1940s, while his great uncle, Nunzio, also fought as a Philadelphia-based lightweight in the 1940s. His other great uncle, Joe Carto, turned pro in Philadelphia back in 1932.

“I’m very excited to be fighting April 28 at The Liacouras Center with so many talented fighters,” Carto said. “It means a lot to be on such a strong card in the heart of the city.”

Cruz (14-0, 9 KOs), from St. Louis, is looking to extend his KO streak to four when he faces Carlos Rodriguez (11-4, 4 KOs) in an eight-round lightweight bout.

“This is the hurt business, and I’m definitely going for the knockout,” Cruz said. “I just don’t want a knockout, I want to get one in spectacular fashion.”

Philadelphia’s Marcel Rivers (4-0, 3 KOs) will see action in a four-round welterweight bout. Rivers is a union foreman for Philadelphia Gas Works, often training at 4 a.m. before he begins his shift. This will be the fourth time Rivers has fought in Philadelphia as a professional.

FRANCISCO SANTANA STEPS IN FOR DERRIECK CUEVAS TO FACE FELIX DIAZ IN FIRST ROUND OF ‘THE JOSE SULAIMAN WORLD INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT’ Friday, April 27 in Louisville, KY

LOUISVILLE, KY (April 4, 2018) Perennial welterweight contender FRANCISCO SANTANA, (26-6-1, 12 KO’s), of Santa Barbara, CA has stepped up to face former world title challenger FELIX DIAZ, (19-2-0, 9 KO’s), in the first round of ‘The Jose Sulaiman World Invitational Tournament’ set for Friday, April 27, 2018 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY.

Representing Mexico in the tournament, Santana replaces the previously announced first round opponent for Diaz, DERRIECK CUEVAS,who bowed out due to the death of his grandmother.

Presented by Evander Holyfield’s The Real Deal Boxing, in association with the World Boxing Council and Louisville’s Top Knotch, tickets starting at $35 are now on sale and be purchased through the KFC Yum! Center box office, Ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. The KFC Yum! Center is located at 1 Arena Plaza, Louisville, KY 40202. Doors will open on the night of the event at 6:00 p.m. with the first bell at 7:00 p.m.

“I know I’m the dark horse in the race so I guess it makes sense the tournament is taking place in the home of the Kentucky Derby!”, laughs Santana, the ultra-friendly, married father of one, who also works as a full-time seaman on a naval base.

“In all seriousness though, I’ve come up the hard way. I’ve caught a lot of bad breaks in the sport. After my last fight when I was robbed on the cards again, I thought maybe it was time to hang it up, but I listened to my team and my family that an opportunity would come along as long I stayed focused and kept training. Now it has with this tournament and I intend to make the most of it. My dream has always been to be the WBC Welterweight Champion of the world and this is the next step towards that goal.”

As for landing the top seed Felix Diaz on short notice, Santana is not phased at all.

“It doesn’t matter who it is. There are no easy fights or fighters in this tournament. In terms of the quality of match ups, hardcore boxing fans know this is the top to bottom card of the year so far. The best fighting the best, that’s what The Real Deal Boxing is all about it and that’s what I’m about. I know I’m the tournament underdog but that only fuels my fire. I am a man on mission. I am going to make a statement on April 27th. Train. Fight. Win.”

“It’s an unfortunate situation with Derrieck Cuevas having to drop out but the recent death of his grandmother had greatly impacted his ability to train,” said Holyfield. “However, we’re very excited to have Francisco Santana step in to face Felix Diaz. Francisco has fought two current world champions and with the additional wealth of experience he has, we expect a very competitive first round fight.”

Santana has faced numerous world class fighters including Sadam Ali, Jermell Charlo, Julian Williams, Jose Benavidez, Eddie Gomez, Freddy Hernandez and Karim Mayfield. He also received the most ‘alternate’ fan votes in the balloting prior to the announcement of the tournament draw.

The updated schedule of first round fights for the tournament representing eight countries are;

#1 ranked FELIX DIAZ, (19-2-0, 9 KO’s) of Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic will clash with #8 ranked FRANCISCO SANTANA, (26-6-1, 12 KO’s), of Santa Barbara, CA, representing Mexico.

#2 ranked CHRIS VAN HEERDEN, (25-2-1, 12 KO’s) of Johannesburg, South Africa, faces #7 ranked TIMO SCHWARZKOPF, (18-1-0, 10 KO’s) of Stuttgart, Germany.

#3 ranked FREDRICK LAWSON, (26-1-0, 21 KO’s), of Accra, Ghana, battles #6 ranked BAISHANBO NASIYWULA,(13-1-1, 6 KO’s), of Urumqi, China.

#4 ranked RADZHAB BUTAEV, (8-0-0, 6 KO’s) of Russia faces #5 ranked BRAD SOLOMON,(27-1-0, 9 KO’s), of Douglasville, Georgia.

The additional alternate chosen by the fan voting is PADDY GALLAGHER, (13-3-0, 8 KO’s) of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Included among the unique judging aspects set forth for the tournament;

–Development and implementation of a standardized scoring process that clearly defines how the judges should score each bout.

–Additional judges to minimize margin of error. A fourth judge will be placed at ringside and a fifth judge will be placed in front of a TV monitor with no audio commentary. All five judges’ scorecards will be used if the fight goes the distance.

–Employment of an Open Scoring concept to allow fighters the knowledge if they are winning or losing a fight.

–Assignment of Neutral and Experienced Judges throughout the tournament.

It’s all fun and games for cool, calm Andrews

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 4th, 2018) — Nothing has changed stylistically for Nate Andrews during his recent six-fight win streak. No tweaks. No gimmicks. No inspirational quotes taped to the inside of his locker.

The Nate Andrew who’s steamrolled through his last six opponents is the same Nate Andrews who ran off six consecutive wins before suffering his first and only loss in 2014, minus the unnecessary pressure of keeping his perfect record intact.

“I go out there and have fun,” said the East Providence, R.I., lightweight, who fights Friday, April 6th, 2018 at Twin River Casino for the vacant CES MMA World Lightweight Title at “CES MMA 49” on AXS TV.

“Nerves don’t get to me like they did earlier in my career. Now it’s fun to me. That’s the most important thing.”

The cool, calm Andrews (12-1, 5 KOs) faces Chris Padilla (9-3, 4 KOs) of Gardena, Calif., in one of two five-round world title bouts on the “CES MMA 49” main card. Reigning CES MMA World Welterweight Champion Chris Curtis (17-5, 6 KOs) also returns to Twin River to defend his title against Lawton, Okla., veteran Jason Norwood (18-4, 5 KOs).

Tickets for “CES MMA 49” are priced at $47.00, $57.00, $102.00 and $152.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com, www.cagetix.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Friday’s preliminary card begins at 7 p.m. ET with the televised main card airing live at 9.

Some would argue Andrews’ shot at a world title is long overdue since he quietly began his recent win streak with a first-round knockout over Jay Bakanowski at “CES MMA 29” in 2015, but Andrews truthfully never coveted the belt, not with teammate Luis Felix capturing the championship from Julian Lane later that year at “CES MMA 30.”

Like most fighters, Andrews has always had his sights on the UFC. Winning the title Friday would be the logical next step toward getting the call.

“Now that it’s open, I’m happy that I have this opportunity,” Andrews said. “I think it’s another notch on my belt. ‘Look at this guy’s record. It’s this good, and he has a belt.’ It’s one of those things that it’s almost like, ‘How can you deny him at that point?'”

Andrews’ recent hit list includes Lane, whom he eviscerated via second-round knockout at “CES MMA 33,” veteran George Sheppard and regional fan-favorite Bruce Boyington. Each of his last six wins have come by submission or knockout, including two in the third and final round against Manny Muro and Sheppard in back-to-back bouts.

“My work ethic is the same as it’s always been,” he said. “It’s always been about, ‘Give it your all, or don’t do it all.’ My work ethic hasn’t changed. My skill level has gotten way better. I’ve learned more over time, I’ve gotten better, and I’ve learned how to really understand the game more and put it all together. Since then, besides that, the work ethic is the same it’s always been. Give it 110 percent.”

While Andrews’ approach hasn’t changed much, if at all, it’s clear he’s more polished and better prepared both mentally and physically to handle his recent ascent to the top of the lightweight division. His manager, Tyson Chartier — himself a former fighter — also manages Rob Font, Calvin Kattar and Kyle Bochniak, all of whom competed together at UFC 220 in Boston, so Andrews’ name has certainly come up in conversations between Chartier and UFC executives.

At this point, Andrews knows the only thing he can control is his own performance in the cage. It takes a little luck, too, to get that call, especially in the red-hot lightweight division, which is loaded with talent at the UFC level from Tony Ferguson to Khabib Nurmagomedov, and even Connor McGregor, who remains among the top 10 at 155 pounds despite not having fought since 2016.

“It’s not like they’re just hiring lightweights left and right,” Andrews said. “For lightweights, it’s definitely one of those things where if someone gets hurt, or someone backs out of a fight, they go through their roster first and if no one takes it, they say, ‘Who’s out there? Who can we get in?’ It’s also who you know, too. It’s good to have certain connections that you make over the years that try to help you get that opportunity, too.”

Padilla presents a unique challenge. He won his first seven pro fights, ran into a bit of a rough patch in 2017 and has since rebounded with wins in two of his last three sandwiched around an appearance on Bellator 192. Friday will be his first appearance with CES MMA.

“He’s a very tough guy,” Andrews said. “I think he’s going to come out hard like he always does and I think he’s very tough, but I just don’t think he’s fought anyone at my level or anyone of my caliber of skill level. He’s going to come out tough, but I’m going to be a handful for him.”

While this is Andrews’ first five-round fight in addition to his first title bout, he’s maintained a consistent approach to his training routine without much outside interference, not even from Felix, whom he declined to seek out for advice on handling the pressure of fighting for a championship. The way he sees it, no one can guide him better than himself.

“I actually always train as if I’m training for a five-round fight, so I feel like I’ve been training for a title fight my whole career,” Andrews said. “Every fight has been a title fight for me.”

Andrews hasn’t fought three full rounds since his loss to Gemiyale Adkins four years ago, but doesn’t expect conditioning to be a problem, not with the way he trains for each bout. He’s prepared for whatever happens Friday, whether it’s a quick finish or a long night at the office.

“I’m ready to go. I train hard,” he said. “Obviously, I want to get the finish early and get in there and get out, but I’m ready to get in that deep water and show him how much I can swim.”

The AXS TV main card also features the return of UFC vet Sean Soriano (10-5, 5 KOs) of Woonsocket, R.I., red-hot welterweight Gary Balletto Jr. (5-1, 2 KOs) of nearby Cranston, and fan-favorite Kaline Medeiros (8-6, 2 KOs) of Fall River, Mass.

Balletto Jr., a winner in his last five bouts, returns to face Philadelphia native Jeremiah Wells (3-1-1, 1 KO). Soriano makes his third consecutive appearance with CES MMA in a featherweight bout against Jonathan Gary (13-9, 7 KOs) of Oklahoma City while Medeiros, a four-time Invicta Fighting Championships and two-time CES MMA vet, battles Brooklyn’s Jenna Serio (3-2, 1 KO).

Unbeaten flyweight Richie Santiago (6-0, 1 KO) of Milford, Mass., puts his perfect record on the line on the main card in a showdown against Binghamton, N.Y., native Matt Almy (3-1, 1 KO).

Providence, R.I., bantamweight Marquis Brewster (4-0, 1 KO) highlights the six-fight preliminary card in his toughest test to date against Tashawn Mack (6-4, 1 KO) of Lansing, Mich., who makes his second appearance with CES MMA. Unbeaten Providence bantamweight John Douma (2-0, 1 KO) returns for the third time to face Cortland, N.Y., vet Zachary Burhans (3-1) and Jose Lugo (1-0) of Woonsocket makes his second appearance with the promotion in a flyweight bout against Bronx debut Carlos Rodriguez Jr.

Also on the preliminary card, Springfield, Mass., lightweight Pat Casey debuts against Ryan Castro of Patchogue, N.Y., while light heavyweights Terrance Jean-Jacques of Haverhill, Mass., and Mark Glover of Elmira, N.Y., make their professional debuts against one another in a three-round bout.

The exciting ‘Ultimate Boxxer’ tournament at the Manchester Arena on Friday, April 27 offers life-changing prize money from a pool of £50,000 – and the chance to become a British boxing’s newest star.

Celebrities will be at ringside and big entertainment acts will perform on a night when eight unbeaten fighters go toe-to-toe over three-round fights in front of millions of internet fight fans.

The winner of three, three-round fights will win the top prize and Evans is convinced that will be him.

The 21 year old said: “My aggression, workrate and toughness will win me fights. I will take a few to land a few. I’m looking forward to having three dog fights,”

“I’m going to go for it. You have to be tough to win three fights on the same night – and I’m tough enough to do it,”

“I’m moving down in weight, so will be strong and I’m going to make the fights gruelling for my opponents.

“There isn’t time to look at your opponents and give rounds away, you have to get stuck in from the start,”

“I’m going to throwing lots of punches. I will be fighting at a high pace from first bell to last,”

“This is a massive opportunity, the chance of a lifetime really,”

“You’ve got eight unbeaten lads in ‘Ultimate Boxxxer’ and doors are going to open for the winner.”

Formerly under Ultimate Boxxer ambassador Ricky Hatton, Evans is now working with Errol Johnson and Paul Mann at their gym in Wednesbury.

“We’re working hard in the gym,” said Evans, “I’m ready to fight with all guns blazing.”

04 April 2018 – Singapore: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), has just announced additional bouts for ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS, set for 18 May at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The absolute best in local and international martial arts talent are ready to showcase their incredible skills on the largest global platform of martial arts competition. In the main event, reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee makes her highly-anticipated return to action to defend her title against Japanese veteran Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi in a rematch.

Ticket information for ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS is available at www.onefc.com.

Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, stated: “I am thrilled to announce ONE: UNSTOPPABLE DREAMS, which is shaping up to be one of the biggest nights in the history of martial arts. Three world title bouts are set to take place in Singapore. Headlining the card is Asia’s biggest martial arts star, ‘Unstoppable’ Angela Lee, as she continues to embody the true warrior spirit of martial arts. She returns to the ONE Championship cage to resume her incredible career. Mei Yamaguchi is ready to give her a tough challenge however, and the two have danced inside the cage once before. Also, I am pleased to announce that Martin Nguyen will face Christian Lee in defense of his ONE Featherweight World Championship title. Martin has just come back from a tremendous battle with Bibiano Fernandes last March, and has made a quick turnaround to defend his featherweight title like a true world champion. Finally, we are set to crown the inaugural ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Champion, as Sam-A Gaiyanghadao and Sergio Wielzen vie for the title. It’s going to be a phenomenal night of action for sure, and fans will not want to miss the excitement at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.”

21-year-old “Unstoppable” Angela Lee of Singapore is considered one of ONE Championship’s most outstanding athletes. She captured the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship with an awe-inspiring victory over Mei Yamaguchi in 2016, and has since then defended the title successfully on two occasions. Lee’s beautiful combination of elite striking and grappling has proven to be a potent formula for success, as she has remained unbeaten in her career. In the most recent bout of an impressive run, Lee dominated top contender Istela Nunes, showcasing her wide array of skills despite suffering from illness. She is widely-considered on a global scale to be one of the biggest names actively competing in the sport. She is set to defend her title next against Yamaguchi in a rematch.

35-year-old Japanese martial arts veteran Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi is a female atomweight standout and a former ONE world title challenger from Tokyo. She is the DEEP Jewels Featherweight Champion, and owns seven submissions and two knockouts in her 28-bout professional career. In 2016, Yamaguchi challenged Angela Lee for the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship in an epic showdown that would later win multiple ‘Bout of the Year’ honors from international media publications. In her last outing, Yamaguchi thoroughly defeated Gina Iniong of the Philippines to win impressively by unanimous decision after three rounds. Yamaguchi is now set to take on champion Angela Lee in a highly-anticipated rematch.

29-year-old Martin “The Situ-Asian” Nguyen is one of the most highly-regarded martial arts champions in the world. With an impressive 10-2 professional record, which includes three submissions and seven knockouts, Nguyen’s all-around skill set allows him to perform at the highest level of competition. All of Nguyen’s wins have come by exciting finish. Last November, Nguyen scored a scintillating knockout victory over the Philippines’ Eduard Folayang to become the first man in the history of ONE Championship to hold two titles simultaneously in different weight divisions, reigning as both ONE Featherweight & Lightweight World Champion. In his last bout, Nguyen figured in a historic showdown with ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano Fernandes in Bangkok. Nguyen now makes a quick turnaround however, jumping right back into action as he defends his featherweight title against Christian Lee.

19-year-old Christian “The Warrior” Lee, younger brother of reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, began his professional career on an absolute tear, railing off five straight victories by thrilling finish. He has impressed fans with his ability to seek out stoppage wins over top-caliber opponents featuring an exciting fan-friendly style. A former Pankration World Champion, Lee toppled Japanese veteran Kazunori Yokota in his most recent bout, winning via second-round guillotine choke to improve his record to 9-1. Riding an impressive four-bout winning streak with all four wins coming by finish, Lee is set to showcase his skills once more inside the ONE Championship cage. In his next bout, Lee now has the chance to become the youngest world champion in history when he challenges Martin Nguyen, the only man to ever defeat him, for the ONE Featherweight World Championship.

34-year-old Sam-A Gaiyanghadao is a Muay Thai legend and multiple-time Lumpinee Stadium world champion who is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world. As a Muay Thai practitioner, Sam-A owns a record of 364-46-9, and was known for his strong defense and counter offense. Now an instructor at Evolve in Singapore and a member of the prestigious Evolve Fight Team, Sam-A is set to make his ONE Super Series debut against Sergio Wielzen, whom he will compete against for the inaugural ONE Super Series Muay Thai Flyweight World Championship.

Lion Fight Muay Thai world lightweight champion, Sergio “Little One” Wielzen of Suriname is a Dutch-based martial artist training out of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. With a professional kickboxing record of 45-18-2, Wielzen has built a reputation as being an explosive striker with stunning knockout power. Despite being physically smaller than most of his opponents, Wielzen has won many of his bouts by knockout. He is also a former It’s Showtime 61MAX world champion. Wielzen is set to make his ONE Super Series debut opposite Muay Thai legend Sam-A Gaiyanghadao.

Global martial arts veteran Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki of Shizuoka, Japan, is one of the world’s most decorated athletes. He is a DREAM Lightweight Champion, Shooto Welterweight Champion, and former ONE Lightweight World Champion. The 34-year-old Aoki is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under the famed Yuki Nakai, and has won multiple grappling tournaments all over the world. Aoki also holds a black belt in judo and is widely considered one of the best pure grapplers in professional martial arts competition today. In his next bout, Aoki looks to regain his status among the promotion’s top lightweights as he takes on Rasul Yakhyaev.

26-year-old Rasul Yakhyaev of Grozny, Russia, is a lightweight competitor who has racked up a solid following over his seven-year professional career. A jiu-jitsu and combat sambo practitioner, he is adept in both striking and mat techniques, and is considered a solid contender with tremendous combat skills. A well-rounded warrior, four of Yakhyaev’s victories have come by submission while three have come by knockout. After establishing a name for himself in Eastern Europe, he made his ONE Championship debut in December of 2015. In his most recent contest, Yakhyaev defeated highly-regarded lightweight Shannon Wiratchai by unanimous decision. He now seeks to take his career to the next level against former world champion Shinya Aoki.

Indonesian martial arts veteran “The Terminator” Sunoto is a ONE Championship bantamweight and a former WKF Indonesia Champion. Representing IndoGym and Team Phantom, Sunoto features a style that combines elements of kickboxing, karate, and jiu-jitsu. With a penchant for scoring spectacular finishes, five of Sunoto’s eight victories have ended before the final bell. The 33-year-old is known as an aggressive warrior who never backs down from a challenge. In his last outing, Sunoto continued to impress on the global stage, defeating Hisyam Samsudin by unanimous decision. His next bout will be against Roel Rosauro of the Philippines.

29-year-old Roel “Akiyama” Rosauro of Cebu City, Philippines, is a Filipino martial arts prospect who trains in the art of Yaw-Yan. A striking specialist, Rosauro is known for his powerful hands and lightning-quick punches. Rosauro made his promotional debut at ONE: QUEST FOR GOLD opposite China’s Li Kai Wen, joining a growing list of promising featherweight talents in ONE Championship. He now returns to action seeking victory against Indonesian martial arts veteran Sunoto.

Falcao dominates Gutierrez; eager to face the best

Plant City, FL (April 2, 2018) – Rising star and WBC #13 rated middleweight Yamaguchi Falcao scored a one-sided eight round decision over tough veteran Richar Gutierrez Saturday, March 31 at the Marina Bay SportsPlex in Quincy, MA.

Fighting in front of a national audience on ESPN2, the bout got off to a strange start when Gutierrez was incorrectly credited with a knockdown in the opening seconds after stepping on Falcao’s foot then landing a punch. The 2012 Olympic medalist immediately got back on his feet and made Gutierrez pay the price from bell to bell.

Falcao dominated the fight with hard jabs and crisp straight lefts, scoring a knockdown in the closing moments of the fifth. The game Gutierrez attempted to throw Falcao off by regularly clinching and using roughhouse tactics but was unsuccessful.

Scores were 79-73, 78-72 and 78-71.

Falcao is now 15-0 with 7 KO’s and Gutierrez falls to 30-18-2 (19 KO’s).

“Gutierrez was an experienced and sometimes dirty fighter,” said Falcao, who fights out of Plant City, FL and proudly represents his native Brazil. “I had a job to do and went out there and did it. I’d like to thank my team who did a great job of getting me ready for this fight and helped me bring the victory home.”

Falcao, who has been turned down by a number of notable middleweights, is eager as ever to get his shot at another top 160 pound fighter.

“I believe when I’m at my best I can compete with anybody in the division. I want the opportunity to fight for a world title and show everybody who I am.”

Details for Falcao’s next fight will be available shortly.

HEATHER “THE HEAT” HARDY RETURNS TO BARCLAYS CENTER ON BRONER-VARGAS UNDERCARD, SATURDAY, APRIL 21

Brooklyn, NY (April 2, 2018) Brooklyn’s Heather “The Heat” Hardy (20-0, 4 KOs) returns to Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING, on Saturday, April 21, for the ninth time in a highly anticipated eight-round featherweight clash with former world title challenger Paola “La Fiera” Torres (12-2-1, 5 KOs), of Monterrey, Mexico.

The Premier Boxing Champions event is headlined by four-division champion Adrien Broner battling former welterweight world champion Jessie Vargas in a 12-round bout live on SHOWTIME. The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and features undefeated former world champion Jermall Charlo clashing with once-beaten Hugo Centeno, Jr. for the interim 160-pound world title and former champions Gervonta “Tank” Davis and Jesus Cuellar as they square off for the WBA 130-pound Super World Championship.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, DiBella Entertainment and TGB Promotions, start at $50 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, barclayscenter.com or by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets can also be purchased at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center. Group discounts are available by calling 844-BKLYN-GP.

“I was born and raised in Brooklyn and remember riding the train while Barclays Center was being built hoping that I could one day fight there. It’s a cliché, but it’s really been a dream come true, and I’m thrilled to be back on April 21,” said Hardy. “Barclays Center now feels like home; the backstage area feels like my mom’s house and the ring is like my living room. I can’t wait to get back in the ring on such a great night of boxing. I know Torres is tough and coming to win, but she has two hands, just like me, and I’ll be prepared for both of them.”

“Highlighting the off-TV undercard of a terrific SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader on April 21 will be Brooklyn’s Heather ‘The Heat’ Hardy in her anticipated return to boxing, facing former world title challenger Paola Torres,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “In boxing, Hardy is a two-time WBC International champion and, after taking some time off to compete in the cage, she is ready to bring the heat back to the ring, starting with an emphatic victory in front of her hometown fans at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.”

The popular Hardy returns to the squared circle following two outstanding performances in 2017, earning consecutive eight-round unanimous decisions against Hungary’s Edina Kiss, on March 4 and May 18.

Hardy is best known for smashing the ceiling on women’s boxing in the United States with her victory versus Shelly Vincent on August 21, 2016, telecast to millions on network TV.

Recently competing in mixed martial arts, on February 16, 2018 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT, Hardy defeated Ana Julaton in the cage. Hardy dominated the action over three five-minute rounds in the nationally televised bout and was victorious by unanimous scores of 30-27 twice and 29-28.

A professional for five years, Torres challenged Brooklyn’s Cindy Serrano on May 13, 2017 for the WBO Featherweight World Title in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico. Fighting in a close, hotly contested fight over 10 rounds, Torres came up short to the more experienced Serrano by a close unanimous decision.

Torres has won two fights by stoppage since the defeat including a TKO against Karla Hernandez in the third round on March 1, in Monterrey, Mexico.

Featherweight World Champions Leo Santa Cruz & Abner Mares Square-Off in World Title Rematch Presented by Premier Boxing Champions Saturday, June 9 from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles & Live on SHOWTIME

LOS ANGELES (April 2, 2018) – A rematch between featherweight world champions and Southern California rivals Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz and Abner Mares will headline action Saturday, June 9 live on SHOWTIME from STAPLES Center in Los Angeles in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Ringstar Sports and TGB Promotions, begin at $50, plus applicable fees, and are on sale today at 12:00 p.m. PT. To purchase tickets visit AXS.com or click HERE at 12:00 p.m. PT.

Santa Cruz (33-1-1, 18 KOs) and Mares (30-2-1, 15 KOs) first met in August 2015 at STAPLES Center and went toe-to-toe for 12 fast-paced rounds, with Santa Cruz eventually earning the majority decision and a vacant featherweight title. Now, Santa Cruz will put his WBA Super World Featherweight Title on the line against the WBA Regular Featherweight World Champion Mares.

The initial matchup garnered “Fight of the Year” recognition and warranted a rematch between the consensus top five featherweights who will look to put on a repeat of the performance that saw them throw over 2,000 punches combined.

“This is a fight that fans have been clamoring for and a fight that is certain to deliver action and drama,” said Richard Schaefer of Ringstar Sports. “This is once again a true battle for Los Angeles, with only one man able to walk out of STAPLES Center with that crown as the best in the city. Fans should get their tickets early, because this is sure to be a hot ticket given the styles of each man and the motivations they have to win this fight. I can’t wait to see what happens on June 9 and I look forward to another memorable fight.”

“It is rare that a rematch is as highly anticipated as the initial match, but Leo Santa Cruz vs. Abner Mares 2 is one of those rematches,” said Tom Brown of TGB Promotions. “Since their first match both Leo and Abner have gone on to solidify their positions at the top of the featherweight division, making a second meeting between them even more compelling. The winner will definitely become the man sitting at the top of a very competitive 126-pound division.”

“We are incredibly excited for this rematch of Southern California rivals to take place at STAPLES Center,” Lee Zeidman, President, STAPLES Center.” Boxing fans are in for an amazing night of fights in downtown Los Angeles on June 9th.”

“SHOWTIME is proud to deliver yet another pivotal matchup between two of the consensus top-five featherweights in the world,” said Stephen Espinoza, President, Sports & Event Programing, Showtime Networks Inc. “Santa Cruz-Mares 1 was a Fight of the Year-caliber fight with non-stop action from start to finish, and the rematch promises more of the same – with not just a world title at stake, but also Southern California bragging rights. This is the type of marquee bout that has become a hallmark of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, a true 50-50 showdown with high stakes implications.”

The popular Mexican-American Santa Cruz fights out of Los Angeles and most recently stopped Chris Avalos in October 2017 after a pair of high stakes showdowns against Irish star and two-division world champion Carl Frampton. While Santa Cruz lost a close majority decision in their first matchup, he bounced back in January 2017 to defeat Frampton by majority decision and regain his 126-pound title. Prior to that, Santa Cruz won belts at 118 and 122 pounds while earning a reputation as one of boxing’s most active and exciting fighters. The 29-year-old also holds victories over Cristian Mijares, Kiko Martinez and Eric Morel and has competed in world title bouts in 14 of his last 16 fights since 2012.

“The fans can expect a full-action fight just like the first one, maybe even better,” said Santa Cruz. “I know Abner Mares changed his trainer and Robert Garcia is a great trainer who will bring the best out of him. But we’re also smart and I have a strong team that will bring the best out of me. It will be a great fight once again for the boxing fans in Los Angeles.”

Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico and fighting out of Los Angeles, Calif., Mares became a four-time world champion in December 2016 when he dropped Jesus Cuellar on his way to a unanimous decision and another featherweight world championship. Mares most recently scored a technical decision over Andres Gutierrez in October 2017. A Mexican Olympian in 2004, the 32-year-old won his first title in 2011 when he beat Joseph Agbeko to capture the bantamweight crown. He continued to rise in the pound-for-pound list with victories over Anselmo Moreno and DanielPonce De Leon to win world titles at super bantamweight and featherweight. The June 9 bout will be Mares’ third contest with World Champion trainer Robert Garcia, who helped Mares to a title-winning victory in their first fight together.

“It’s been over two years since I fought Leo Santa Cruz and all I’ve been thinking about is redemption,” said Mares. “Now that I’m with Robert Garcia and his team, you’ve seen the change. If they think I’m going to fight the same way, they are in for a surprise.”

Undefeated featherweight prospect Irvin Gonzalez added to “Fight Night at The Zone”

QUINCY, Mass. (April 2, 2018) — This Saturday night’s “Fight Night at The Zone”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions, has been strengthened by the late addition of hot prospect Irvin Gonzalez to a card already showcasing some of the best young, professional boxers in New England.

Granite Chin Promotions is on a mission to establish a fan-base in the Granite State, providing a fan friendly, full entertainment experience at The Sports Zone in Derry, New Hampshire.

Gonzalez (8-0, 7 KOs), fighting out of Worcester, MA, was a 2015 New England Golden Gloves champion, who qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials. The 21-year-old featherweight prospect will face Mexican Francisco “El Mono” Medal (12-12, 8 KOs) in a six-round bout.

Gonzalez, who hasn’t fought since December 1 1 (sensational third-round knockout of previously undefeated 13-0 Marlon Olea in Providence), was supposed to fight St. Patrick’s Day in Boston, but he was informed the day of the weigh in that his opponent hadn’t cleared medicals.

I’m always in the gym working hard because I like to stay busy and be ready,” Gonzalez said. “No layoffs for me. I’ve been sparring 3-4 times a week to polish my craft. I’m always prepared. I was disappointed a few weeks ago, but I’m fighting on this card, and back on the right track.

“I only focus on my next fight, April 7th, against a tough, experienced opponent. He’s a veteran boxer from Mexico. After this Saturday night, I’ll concentrate on my next fight, May 5th at Foxwoods.”

The addition of Gonzalez with a card featuring some of tomorrow’s stars such as Hartford, CT light heavyweight champion Richard “Popeye The Sailor Man” Rivera (6-0, 5 KOs) means two of the top three prospects in New England will be in action this Saturday in Derry. And several other promising boxers will also be in action. Rivera faces Randy “The Rattler” Campbell, of Ohio, in the six-round co-featured event.

“We are happy to have Irvin on our show,” co-promoter Chuck Shearns said. “His last fight fell out and we are always happy to help local fighters, especially someone of Irvin’s caliber. We have five undefeated fighters on this show. They’re legitimate prospects with a lot of upside. Irvin, Richie and Omar are starting to get national attention and New Hampshire fans are getting an early look at them. The veteran fighters on this show have a lot to fight for as well. ”

Dorchester, MA lightweight Gabriel Duluc (11-3, 2 KOs) headlines in the eight-round main event against Dallas veteran Larry “Slomoshun” Smith.

Iraq War veteran Chris Traietti (25-4, 20 KOs), fighting out of Quincy, MA, meets Indiana veteran “Jammin'” James Morrow in an eight-round, non-title fight. Traietti, whose title will not be on the line, is also the co-promoter of “Fight Night at The Zone.”

Another top Conn. prospect, Danbury junior welterweight Omar Bordoy (4-0, 1 KO), takes on Carlos Galindo, of Woburn (MA), in a four-round match. Other four-rounders on the undercard include Peabody, MA light heavyweight Russell Kimber (1-0) vs. Dustin Caplinger; Irish welterweight Paddy McGee, now fighting out of Dorchester (MA), makes his pro debut vs. Philadelphia’s Bardraiel Smith; Springfield, MA welterweight Anthony Velezquez (1-0, 1 KO) vs. Philadelphia’s Shavante Dixon, and Claremont, NH junior middleweight Rickey Ford (1-1-1) vs. Philadelphia’s Demetrius Thomas.

Also fighting on the undercard in six-round bouts are Stoughton, MA welterweight Travis Demko (5-1, 1 KO) vs. Paul DeSouza, and New Jersey middleweight Chris “Sandman” Thomas (7-0-1, 4 KOs) vs. Lynn, MA middleweight John Hantzopoulas.

All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, priced at $60.00 (ringside), $45.00 and $30.00, are on sale and available to purchase at www.ticketriver.com. Tables with wait service are also available for $400.00. Half-priced tickets are available for active members of the military, police and fire departments.

Hawkins decisions Serrano to wins NABA-USA Welterweight title

Philadelphia, PA (April 2, 2018) – This Past Friday night, Malik Hawkins remained undefeated by winning a 10-round unanimous decision over Raymond Serrano to capture the NABA-USA Welterweight title that headlined an action-packed 8 bout card at The Fillmore in Philadelphia.

The sold-out show was promoted by Hard Hitting promotions.

Hawkins used his length to pick and land shots on the inside. Hawkins raced to the early lead, but the veteran Serrano got going in the middle rounds as he used his experience to get himself back into the fight by winning scrums on the inside and an occasional long right hand. Down the stretch, Hawkins dug down deep and took control of the fight as seemed to be the fresher fighter. Hawkins who had never been past seven rounds, paced himself well against a tough Serrano, who never showed any signs of retreating as the two stood and fought until the final bell.

Hawkins of Baltimore, MD won by scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94 to raise his perfect mark to 13-0. Serrano of Philadelphia was urged on by his loyal fan base, but fell just short, and now drops to 24-5.

Heavyweight prospect Darmani Rock landed a hard right to the body that dropped Ronny Hale down and out at 1:27 of round two of their scheduled six-round bout.

Rock of Philadelphia is now 11-0 with 7 knockouts. Hale of Austin, Texas falls to 4-12.

Good looking prospect Brandon Pizarro rebounded nicely from his 1st professional defeat by pounding out a 4-round unanimous decision over Pablo Cupal in a lightweight fight.

Pizarro, 18 years-old of Philadelphia won by shutout scores on all cards of 40-36, and is now 9-1. Cupul of San Diego is 9-24.

Samuel Teah dropped Orlando Rizo three times in the 1st round, and their lightweight bout was stopped at 2:35 of that opening frame.

Teah dropped Rizo with a right hand early in the round. He followed that up with hard body shot that sent Rizo to the canvas, and finished off Rizo with another right hand.

Teah of Philadelphia is now 13-2-1 with 6 knockouts. Rizo of Managua, Nicaragua is 19-13.

Undefeated prospect Jeremy Cuevas got off the deck to come back to win a six-round unanimous decision of Erain Cruz in a super lightweight bout.

Early on it looked like it could have been a rough night for Cuevas as he ate a perfect right hand that sent him to the canvas in round two. A round later, Cuevas had blood dripping from his nostrils, but the young veteran got himself together and put his combinations together to come to take the rest of the fight, and win by scores of 59-55 on all cards.

Cuevas of Philadelphia is now 8-0. Cruz of Ocala, FL is 4-5.

It looked like undefeated super middleweight Ronald Ellis would have a short night as he battered Taneal Goyco all over the ring in the first round of their scheduled six-round bout. Ellis continued to have Goyco in trouble throughout their affair, and dropped Goyco with a right hand in round three. Goyco hung tough, but took many power shots, and Ellis looked impressive in winning by shutout scores of 60-53 on all cards.

Ellis of Lynn, MA is now 15-0-2. Goyco of Philadelphia 9-11.

Tramaine Williams won a six-round unanimous decision over Antonio Rodriguez in a featherweight bout.

Williams landed quick combinations, and cut Rodriguez over his right eye in the final round.

Williams of New Haven, CT won by scores of 60-53, 59-55 and 58-56 to raise his mark to 15-0. Rodriguez of Mexico is 12-21.

Joey Alday, Jr. kept his knockout streak intact by stopping Michael Crain at 1:28 of round three of their scheduled 4-round junior middleweight bout.

Alday dropped Crain round two with a hard combination, and finished him off with a hard left to the body in round three.

Alday of Odessa, Texas is now 7-0. Crain of Smyrna, DE is 1-2.

CROLLA VICTORY INSPIRES ULTIMATE BOXXER CONTENDERS

WBA,WBC AND RING MAGAZINE TITLE
JORGE LINARES AND ANTHONY CROLLA WEIGH IN FOR THEIR FIGHT ON EDDIE HEARNS PROMOTION AT THE MANCHESTER ARENA(25-3-17)

Fans’ favourite Anthony Crolla inspired Ultimate Boxxer hopefuls by grinding out a win on the Anthony Joshua-Joseph Parker undercard that keeps him on course for another shot at the world lightweight championship.

Manchester ace Crolla is an ambassador for boxing’s exciting and revolutionary new entertainment brand that brings together eight unbeaten welterweights in thrilling toe-to-toe action at the Manchester Arena on Friday, April 27.

“Million Dollar” had the greatest night of his career there, the fifth-round knockout of Darleys Perez in November, 2015 that brought him the WBA title, and the 31 year old stayed in contention for another title shot with a points win over game Mexican Edson Ramirez at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

Crolla overcame a nasty cut on his right eye midway through his 10-rounder after heads clashed – but he stayed calm and held his boxing together to go on and win unanimously, and widely, on the three judges’ scorecards.

His crucial big-fight experience, accrued over nearly 12 years as a professional in 42 fights, with English, British, Commonwealth, International and World title honours under his belt and potentially more to come, ensures Crolla is an ideal mentor to the fighters, alongside former World Champions Ricky Hatton and Paulie Malignaggi.

Ultimate Boxxer contender Andy Kremner was watching the fight – and felt inspired.

“I’ve always followed the Manchester fighters,” said Kremner, “and Crolla is definitely one of my favourites.

“You have to admire someone who’s been through everything Anthony’s been through and still got to the top.

“He lost fights early in his career, we thought his career was over after he was badly injured chasing burglars – and it wasn’t easy for him on Saturday night either.

“That was a nasty cut he picked up, but Anthony just got on with it and got the job done.”

Ultimate Boxxer Isaac Macleod said: “I would love to see Anthony win back the world title. His story is so inspiring to other fighters. It’s a ‘Rocky’ story – and unlike ‘Rocky,’ it’s real. Anthony is proof of where hard work and self belief can get you.”

There’s talk of a possible match between Crolla and Matchroom stablemate Luke Campbell later this year.

Crolla, who held pound-for-pound fighter Jorge Linares to a draw in a world-title challenge, said:

“I’m looking for big fights sooner rather than later.

“I’m going to have a break for a few weeks and I’m looking forward to ‘Ultimate Boxxer.’

“I’ve looked at the fighters taking part and it’s wide open. One of them is going to be star and I’m looking forward to finding out who it’s going to be.”

ULTIMATE BOXXER I will take place at the Manchester Arena on April 27. Tickets are available from www.ultimateboxxer.com

Julian Williams Training Camp Notes

Nov. 17, 2017, Las Vegas,Nevada — weighin — for Mayweather Promotions – Cosmopolitian
— CHRIS FARINA – Mayweather Promotions

SAN CARLOS, CA (March 30, 2018) – Top super welterweight contender Julian “J-Rock” Williams will look to put himself closer to another world title shot when he faces Nathaniel Gallimore in a 154-pound world title eliminator Saturday, April 7 live on SHOWTIME from Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

The Premier Boxing Champions event is headlined by Erislandy Lara, the longest reigning world champion at 154-pounds, clashing with undefeated champion Jarrett Hurd in a highly anticipated 154-pound world title unification bout. The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and also features super middleweight world champion Caleb Truax in a rematch against former champion James DeGale.

The 12-round IBF title eliminator gives Williams a chance to earn a second world title fight, while it would be Gallimore’s first shot at the title. Gallimore has been outspoken in his belief that he will stop Williams, but Williams has chosen to not let the words affect him and focus on the task at hand.

“I have no reaction to the talk coming from Gallimore,” said Williams. “He’s trying to draw attention to himself and doing it in a classless way. If he wants a back-and-forth, he’s going to be talking to himself.

“He seems like he’s a strong fighter, but you never really know until you step in the ring with a guy. He’s on a hot streak, he’s a big puncher and obviously he has a lot of confidence. We thought this would be a good test and I think it’s going to be a great fight for the fans.”

Williams is currently finishing up training camp at the SNAC gym in San Carlos, California with trainer Stephen Edwards. In addition to work in the first part of training in Philadelphia with DeCarlo Perez and Jaron Ennis, he has sparred with the likes of Peter Quillin, Prenice Brewer and Joey Spencer in California.

“I’ve been coming out to California for parts of camp since 2014 and it’s really just something that gives me a bit of a spark heading into the fight,” said Williams. “There are some elevation and recovery aspects of training that we can do out here. It’s also a good way to get away from things and really dig to another level.”

Williams has been on the road back to title contention after dropping his first title shot to Jermall Charlo in 2016. Williams knew that he did not need to revamp his entire game and has recovered with victories over former champion Ishe Smith and Joshua Conley leading into this fight.

“I thought I was doing well in the Charlo fight so I never pushed the panic button after it didn’t go my way,” said Williams. “Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. The plan was always to improve each fight and each day in camp, so that’s what we’re still doing. We’ll see on April 7 if it’s enough.”

With an opponent who enters this fight on a seven-fight knockout streak, Williams knows he will have to use all of his physical and mental skills to pull out the victory.

“It’s going to be up to me what this fight looks like,” said Williams. “In the ring you have to be mature. I can’t get drawn into the kind of fight that he wants. If I stay focused, I should dominate him.

“I’m never going to look past anybody. I know that there’s nothing I can do in my future in this sport if I don’t beat Gallimore. I’m ready to go in there and look impressive on April 7.”

Tickets for the show, which is promoted by TGB Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, are on sale now and available by visiting AXS.com or the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas Box Office.

CARDIFF, WALES (March 30, 2018) – IBF and WBA Heavyweight World Champion Anthony Joshua weighed-in at 242 ¼ pounds and WBO Champion Joseph Parker measured 236 ½ pounds Friday before a capacity crowd at Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff for their Heavyweight World Championship tomorrow live on SHOWTIME.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast begins live at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT from ringside at Principality Stadium where nearly 80,000 fans will match boxing’s all-time indoor attendance record, initially set in 2017 in Joshua’s title defense against Carlos Takam at the same venue.

Joshua (20-0, 20 KOs) scaled his lightest in 10 fights, and more than 10 pounds lighter than his October 2017 defense of the IBF and WBA titles, while Parker (24-0, 18 KOs) measured 10 pounds lighter than all three of his world championship bouts.

“Carrying around a bit of extra weight makes things difficult,” Joshua said. “I’ve been running well, training well. There’s been tough times in camp, but losing that little bit of extra weight has made things that little bit easier.

“It’s a perfect weight for the fighter I’m about to face tomorrow because he’s nimble and he’s quick. I’ve got boxing skill and I can control him, but I think the lighter I am the more I’ll be able to match him for speed.”

Parker, who will make his third defense as champion, took note of Joshua’s lighter weight.

“(Joshua’s weight) makes me think that he’s taking the fight very seriously,” Parker said. “There’s not much of a weight difference, which is good. I think we’re both going to be fast tomorrow night. We’re both going to move well and throw some big bombs.

“I saw confidence in Joshua. He’s a good champion. I saw confidence so I’m expecting a really good fight.”

American Steve Weisfeld, New Zealand’s Ian Scott and Britain’s Steve Gray have been assigned as the three judges scoring from ringside. The third man in the ring will be Italy’s Giuseppe Quartarone.

“I’m not worried about a decision,” Parker said. “We’ve done everything we can in training to prepare. The biggest thing for me is the challenge of fighting someone like Joshua. If it goes into a dark place, how long will I stay there for? How fast can I come back?

“I’m here for a good fight. I’m here for a war. You’re going to have to give everything to beat me.”

The massive global event will be watched in more than 215 territories throughout the world, a distribution figure that is on par with some of the biggest boxing events in history.

“You have to remember that even though I’m heavyweight champion of the world, there’s another belt I’m fighting for. In my mind, I’m a challenger,” Joshua said. “Scrap my belts. I’m challenging for the WBO heavyweight championship of the world. That’s what I’m going for and that’s what my mindset is. I’m hungry. I’m determined. I’m willing to go the distance or I’m willing to take risks and take him out early. I just want to secure that win one way or another.”

This will be just the 11th unification in heavyweight history. Previous winners of unifications include Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko. The last fighter to win a unification between undefeated champions was Mike Tyson in 1987.

“These wins are creating history,” Joshua said. “This type of fight where two champions who are undefeated come together is history. The last person to win was Mike Tyson thirty years ago. If I do win, I haven’t spoken about it much, but providing I do get this win we’re going to set history in late 2018. I’ll become undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”

DEGALE OUT FOR REVENGE AS HE LOOKS TO RECLAIM WORLD TITLE AGAINST TRUAX LIVE AND EXCLUSIVE ON BOXNATION

LONDON (30 March, 2018) – British super-middleweight star James DeGale will look to win back his IBF world title against Caleb Truax live and exclusive on BoxNation next weekend.

‘The Channel of Champions’ will be the only place to see the 32-year-old take on Truax as he looks to avenge his shock December points loss to the American.

DeGale was heavily tipped to come through his meeting with the Minnesota fighter unscathed when they clashed at the Copper Box Arena in London but was left devastated as Truax crashed his homecoming by securing a majority win on the scorecards.

They will now do battle again, this time at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas next Saturday night, on a card which also sees Erislandy Lara, the longest reigning world champion at 154-pounds, take on IBF world champion “Swift” Jarrett Hurd.

DeGale, the first British boxer to win an Olympic gold medal and a world championship as a professional, is not looking to make any excuses for his loss but is keen to show fans tuning in live on BoxNation the real him as he looks to become a two-time world champion.

“I’m happy to have the opportunity to rematch Truax and regain my IBF title,” said DeGale. “I am not going to make excuses for my poor performance, actions speak louder than words. I am excited to be boxing in Vegas again. The real JD will be back on fight night!”

34-year-old Truax, who is nicknamed “Golden”, is confident that he can shine once again as he makes the first defence of his world title crown.

“They made the right call on the decision in England, and I expect to be even more dominant this time around. I am planning to really just beat up James DeGale and get the job done in more efficient fashion this time,” Truax said.

“Fighting in Las Vegas for the first time will be a very cool experience and I expect it to be friendlier than it was in London. There is a lot of pride on the line for me, being that I’m the first boxing world champion from Minnesota in a long time. So there is a lot on the line for me and I plan to keep that going, especially as a means for supporting my family,” he said.

Jim McMunn, BoxNation Managing Director, said: “James DeGale is always involved in exciting and nail-biting fights so we are delighted to showcase his rematch with Caleb Truax live and exclusive on BoxNation. His loss in December was one of the upsets of the year but now is his chance to put that right. Truax will no doubt have grown in confidence from that win so it makes for a very intriguing matchup on Saturday 7th April. BoxNation subscribers will not want to miss this one as these two look to settle the score once and for all.”

Julian “J-Rock” Williams and Nathaniel Gallimore, two young, skilled contenders in the stacked light-middleweight division, will also clash on the card in a 12-round world title eliminator.

DIERRY JEAN SIGNS WITH LEE BAXTER PROMOTIONS; DEBUTS MAY 19 IN NIAGARA FALLS

TORONTO – Thursday, March 29, 2018: Boxing is returning to Niagara Falls with the most star-studded lineup the city has seen in a ring yet.

Lee Baxter Promotions is proud to announce the signing of the exciting two-time world title challenger Dierry Jean (29-2-1, 20 KOs) of Montreal.

The 35-year-old boxer has shared the ring with the best in the world, fighting in the world championship with Terence Crawford (26-0-0) and Lamont Peterson (31-2-1), in addition to serving as training partner to the future member of the Hall of Fame Manny Pacquiao.

“We are very happy to have gotten in touch with a spectacular boxer like Dierry Jean. He will make a first comeback fight, then he will be back in the world rankings and we expect to see him in big fights by next year, “said Lee Baxter, president of Lee Baxter Promotions.

Jean will face Mexico’s Juan Armando “Tortuga” Garcia (21-6-2, 12 KOs) in his return on May 19 in Niagara Falls, Ontario at the Scotiabank Theatre.

Garcia is a rugged customer who will be making his sixth visit to Canada, where he has faced some of the country’s best in Mian Hussain, David Théroux, Samuel Vargas, Ayaz Hussain and Mathieu Germain. It will be a perfect return test for Jean, who will be at his first clash in just over a year, after putting his life back on track and returning to the Underdog Gym in Montreal.

The main event of the evening will feature Toronto’s Samuel Vargas (29-3-1, 14 KOs) to Dominican Republic champion Julio “La Para” De Jesus (26-1-0, 24K).

Vargas, current 147-pound NABA welterweight champion, will be looking to earn a fifth consecutive win since losing to former world champion Danny Garcia. As for De Jesus, a six-foot tall welterweight, he won the Dominican Republic championship titles, WBA Fedelatin and WBA Fedecentro during his career, which began in 2010. De Jesus packs serious power, with 24 of his 26 wins coming by way of knockout.

The bout will take place at a catchweight of 144 pounds, as Vargas gradually ventures down to the light welterweight division. This will be Vargas’ final defense of the WBA-NABA welterweight title before Baxter says he will go after a regional title at 140 pounds with one of the four major sanctioning bodies.

“Nobody works harder than Sammy Vargas, and he’s determined to make a splash in the 140-pound division,” said Baxter. “He’s in the best shape of his life, and in our opinion, finally fighting in the proper weight class. You’re going to see a refreshed and more powerful version of Sammy on May 19.”

The card will also feature three-time national champion Anthony Lenk, who will cross the border from his native Niagara Falls, NY to fight in Canada for the first time as a professional. Lenk is signed to Evander Holyfield’s The Real Deal Boxing.

In addition to Lenk, local talent will also come in the form of Josh Lupia, the 2-0 Canadian welterweight prospect with a rabid following in Niagara Falls. Lupia was a Canadian amateur standout, and most recently scored a second round KO over Dario Ortiz in the Domincan Republic.

Tickets are on sale now via ticketpro.ca or by calling 1-888-655-9090. Tickets start at just $60, and VIP tables will be available upon request.

James DeGale, Hugo Centeno Jr. & Nathaniel Gallimore Los Angeles Media Workout Quotes

LOS ANGELES (March 29, 2018) – Fighters training in the Los Angeles-area and competing in upcoming Premier Boxing Champions events on April 7 and April 21 hosted a media workout Thursday as they prepare to enter the ring live on SHOWTIME.

Former super middleweight world champion James DeGale and super welterweight contender Nathaniel Gallimore participated in the workout ahead of their respective matchups on Saturday, April 7 from Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas.

Middleweight contender Hugo Centeno Jr. also worked out for media before he enters the ring on Saturday, April 21 from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast on Saturday, April 7 features DeGale in a super middleweight world title rematch against Caleb Truax and Gallimore facing Julian Williams in a super welterweight world title eliminator. The telecast begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT and is headlined by a 154-pound title unification between Erislandy Lara and Jarrett Hurd.

The April 21 event features Centeno Jr. facing Jermall Charlo for the Interim WBC Middleweight Title. Coverage on SHOWTIME begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and is headlined by a showdown between Adrien Broner and Jessie Vargas.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday from Wild Card Boxing Club:

JAMES DEGALE

“Training camp has been fantastic. I rushed back from my shoulder injury in my last fight. I couldn’t believe I lost my title and I could only blame myself. I’m lucky to have this chance to make it right and regain my title.

“I’m injury-free now and physically ready for this fight. Most importantly, I’m mentally ready for this challenge and I can’t wait to get in the ring.

“I learned that you can’t rush fitness. I had a reconstructive surgery and I came back far too quick. I learned my lesson the hard way. Now I have to get it back the hard way.

“Fighting in Las Vegas is another dream come true. So many great fights have been there and I just can’t wait. The atmosphere and the vibe will be special. I’m going to put on a fantastic performance and regain my title.

“Caleb Truax is not on my level. I’m miles above him. On April 7 I’m going to show everyone why and show everyone what I’m all about.

“As soon as the doctor said that some athletes come back after six months from my injury, I was determined to fight in 2017. Everyone can see that I was slow in the ring. I was ashamed of my performance. It was embarrassing and I’m looking to erase that on April 7.

“I’ve watched the first fight with Truax a couple of times but it’s very tough because I know that’s not me in there. For the past six weeks I’ve felt so much better. My jab is sharp again and everyone will see that when I become a two-time world champion.

“Truax has tasted what it’s like to be a world champion. He’s going to be hungry and have that burning desire to beat me. At the end of the day, I’m just too good for him and I’m going to prove it. I have to make a statement.”

HUGO CENTENO JR.

“I’m feeling great right now. The rib injury was somewhat a blessing in disguise. It gave me a training camp for my training camp. Once I came back from the injury I was already in great shape. I feel great and I’m not depleted whatsoever. I’m 100 percent mentally ready for this fight.

“I was disappointed at first because I wanted this fight to happen so badly. I had a chance to regroup and talk with my team and they put me on the right direction. I’ve had a great camp and I believe everything happens for a reason.

“I don’t pay attention to anything people are saying about Charlo. I’m staying focused because I know that this fight can change my whole career. I’m ready to win.

“Charlo is a strong fighter. A lot of fighters stand in front of him but he’s also a great boxer. I feel like I have those same attributes that he has. It’s going to be a chess match and a great fight.

“We have to see who the smarter fighter is on April 21. I know Charlo says he’s going to knock me out in one round, I’m not planning to let him do that. If I get my opportunity, I’m going to take it and I’m going to hurt him.

“I learned from my loss that I can’t underestimate anyone in this sport. I’ve stayed in the ring and worked the whole time since the loss and it’s shown. Getting that big knockout over Immanuwel Aleem was a great moment and has helped catapult me back to the top of this division.

“This is the kind of fight I’ve looked forward to since I was seven years old. I’m just a kid from a small town trying to make his dream come true. Now the moment is finally here.”

NATHANIEL GALLIMORE

“I’m not worried about the IBF belt right now. I’m worried about Julian ‘J-Pebbles’ Williams on April 7. I see a lot of things from Williams. I see fear and I don’t think he’s totally there mentally. He should have taken harder fights before this one. This is the wrong fight for him.

“I’ve had seven knockouts in a row and this is going to be eight. It’s nice to stay active and be able to jump on an opportunity like this when it presents itself.

“It’s always important to put on a good show for the fans. I’m a showman. I give the fans what they want. All action.

“It doesn’t matter where I fight, I’ll be ready. I’m excited to go back to Las Vegas. This is my third time fighting there and I’m planning on making it 3-0.

“This is a new training camp. I’m working in Los Angeles with John Pullman and Buddy McGirt. The weather is good out here and I think everything is going in my favor. I love the atmosphere out here.”
