Petr Petrov 138 1/4 lbs – Ivan Baranchyk 140 lbs

DEADWOOD, S.D. (March 8, 2018) – Weights for tomorrow night’s co-feature bout that will pit former two-time world title challenger Petr Petrov against undefeated Ivan Baranchyk in an IBF Junior Welterweight Elimination bout that will be part of SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION, on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT from Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Ivan Baranchyk vs. Petr Petrov – 12-Round IBF Junior Welterweight Title Eliminator
Baranchyk: 140 pounds
Petrov: 138 ¾ pounds

Referee: Mark Nelson; Judges: Benoit Roussel (CAN), George Hill (USA), Pasquale Procopio (CAN)

FINAL QUOTES:

PETR PETROV
“My training has been good. The late notice should not affect me, I am always in the gym and always in good shape. I trained in Spain for six weeks before coming here, so I am 100% ready for this fight. It was an easy decision to take this fight.

“I am always staying in the gym and always ready for a fight. The 11 month layoff was not by design, I was always preparing for a fight that fell through for one reason or another

“I was not familiar with Baranchyk, but I have learned that he is an aggressive fighter that will come forward. My counter-punching and my angles will be very important in this fight. I am going to stand toe-to-toe with him.

“I know that he is the younger, bigger fighter and I am taking this fight on short notice, but none of that matters. The only thing that matters is what happens in the ring tomorrow night, and I am confident that I will win.”

IVAN BARANCHYK
“I like my new trainer (Pedro Diaz) a lot. It’s a completely different style and level of work that I’ve never tried before. I watched a lot of video of him and I really liked the work that I saw he did with Miguel Cotto.

“I feel as ready as I’ve ever felt. I feel good. The training has been more focused on my technique. I feel like I’m coming into this fight in great shape. I’ve tried to stay disciplined in training. My trainer always says you win the fight in the gym.

“I think that I’m a strong fighter, but in boxing you have to be smart too. I have been working on my intelligence in the ring and how to manage my energy. In the past, I have wasted more energy than I’ve needed to.

“My opponent doesn’t matter, the late change won’t affect me. I am ready to fight whoever they put in front of me. My game plan is the same, I am going to come out strong, aggressive, intelligent and win the fight. Petrov is a good fighter but this is a good matchup for me.

“I think it’s going to be a tough fight. Petrov is a good fighter with a lot of experience who has had a good career. But I have a long future ahead of me, too.

“Tomorrow night I’m going to show a lot of improvement in the technical aspect of my fighting. I feel that I have a very strong future in this sport and I want to be a world champion one day. Petrov is just another step for me.”

The Baranchyk (16-0, 10 KOs) vs. Petrov (38-5-2, 19 KOs) bout is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Fight Promotions Inc., Holden Productions & Banner Promotions.

MIKEY GARCIA vs. SERGEY LIPINETS FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

SAN ANTONIO (March 8, 2018) – Unbeaten three-division world champion Mikey Garcia and IBF Junior Welterweight World Champion Sergey Lipinets went face to face Thursday at the final press conference before they square-off Saturday, March 10 live on SHOWTIME from Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio.

Also in attendance Thursday were two-division world champion Rances Barthelemy and Kiryl Relikh, who meet in the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING (10:15 p.m. ET/PT) co-feature in a rematch for the vacant WBA 140-pound world title.

Garcia looks to become a four-division champion, joining future Hall of Famers Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez as the only fighters to capture titles at 126, 130, 135 and 140 pounds, while Barthelemy has a chance to become the only Cuban in history to win titles in three weight divisions.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Ringstar Sports and TGB Promotions in association with Leija-Battah Promotions, are priced at $250, $150, $75, $50 and $20 and are on sale now. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000 or 210 556-7390.

Thursday’s press conference also featured fighters competing on the SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME telecast that will see unbeaten contender Mario Barrios, of San Antonio, take on Eudy Bernardo. The telecast begins at 8 p.m. ET/PT with undefeated Alejandro Luna facing former world title challenger Richard Commey in a 12-round IBF Lightweight Title Eliminator.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Thursday from Omni La Mansion in San Antonio:

MIKEY GARCIA

“At the end of my career, this is the fight that will have opened the door for even bigger fights. I plan on moving up and fighting even bigger names. This is the kind of fight that really motivates me and it’s going to be the first of many big fights.

“I’m very focused on Sergey Lipinets. The entire camp I’ve known what’s in front of me. I know he’s hungry and wants to defend his title. He knows what’s in front of him, so I know he’ll be in the best shape possible. Lipinets knows what a win over me will do for his career, and it’s my job to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“I don’t have a specific goal in this sport but I know that I need to win more world titles in more weight classes. I know that at the end of my career I’ll get the credit that I deserve.

“I’m happy to bring this show to a beautiful city like San Antonio and I just want everybody to come out on Saturday. This is a great boxing city and I know they’re going to show up for a great night of boxing. There are lots of candidates for ‘Fight of the Night’ on this card. We’re all hungry and we’re all here to win.”

SERGEY LIPINETS

“I’m very happy for this opportunity. If you’ve followed my career you’ve seen that I never take a shortcut. It meant a lot to win a world title but I’ve really always wanted to fight the best of the best. Mikey gave me that chance and I was eager to take it.

“I have no concerns about my hand at all. My right hand is hungry and it’s going to be eating a lot on Saturday night.

“I’m young, I’m hungry and I have a great team behind me. I’m fast, strong and I have all the confidence I need heading into this fight.”

RANCES BARTHELEMY

“I’m very excited to be here in San Antonio fighting for the first time. Everyone knows that the first fight with Relikh was an unbelievable war. People thought it was a close fight, but I’m here to make history and erase any doubt.

“This is going to be a great show with great action all night long. The fight fans here in San Antonio are great and I hope everyone shows up for it.

“Everyone knows that Cubans have a rich tradition in boxing, including one of my trainers, Joel Casamayor. It’s an amazing feat to be able to be the first Cuban to win world titles in three weight classes.

“I always tell the truth and Relikh is a powerful puncher, I won’t take that away from him. I never touched the canvas though, but Relikh did. On Saturday night, I’m going to put him back on the canvas.”

KIRYL RELIKH

“I’m very happy to have this opportunity again to fight against Barthelemy again. It’s good for me that this time we will be fighting for a world title. I’m very happy for my new team and you will see a new fighter on Saturday.

“I don’t think I lost the first fight, but that’s up to the judges. This time, we will be much better and not leave it in the judges’ hands if we have the opportunity.

“This is boxing so we know anything can happen. Two world class fighters are going for the world title, so of course I’m going to be at my best. This is going to be a fight you cannot miss on Saturday.”

MARIO BARRIOS

“It’s great to be back home. I’m very excited for the opportunity to show off in front of my people and show them what I’ve been working on.

“I had a great camp out there with Virgil Hunter. I can’t wait to be on this huge card. These fighters up here are champions that I look forward to meeting real soon in the ring.

“It’s going to be an exciting night. I’m young, I’m hungry and I’m a Mexican fighter competing at home in Texas. I hope everyone comes out for a great show.”

EUDY BERNARDO

“I feel very good about my fight. Training camp went really well and I think I’ve done everything I need to do to win.

“On Saturday, I’m going to get in the ring and take care of the game plan we came up with in the gym. I’m really going to focus on solid defense and pressuring the guy, because I’m in really good shape.

“Barrios is a really good fighter, I know he’s undefeated but if I execute my game plan and focus on what I’ve been working on in the gym I’ll be successful. I want to take him in to deeper waters, to the fourth and fifth rounds, and try to get him on his heels.

“I’ve been working really really hard on good defense and staying low. once I get past the third, fourth and fifth rounds that’s when the fight is really going to start.”

ALEJANDRO LUNA

“It feels great to be on this stage. I’ve been doing this since I was nine-years-old so the time is now. I’m ready to take full advantage of this.

“Training camp was great. The only bump we had was the postponement of the fight, but we slowed it down a little bit so we could peak at the right time. I’m ready to go.

“Richard Commey comes from a rich boxing background and those fighters from Ghana are all known for coming forward. I think our styles are really going to clash nicely. The real winner of this fight is going to be the fans.”

RICHARD COMMEY

“The change to Andre Rozier as my trainer was something I needed and wanted. I’m very happy to be working with one of the best trainers in the country and so far he’s helped me improve in many ways.

“I know that Luna is going to apply pressure and come forward. He’s going to look to throw big right hands, so we’re getting ready for all of that.

“I just have to stick to my game plan and make sure I’m always first. My job is to go in and get the win and convince the judges any way that I can that I’m the better fighter.”

ROBERT GARCIA, Garcia’s Brother & Trainer

“I’ve worked with many Russian and Eastern Europeans fighters before and the one thing about those guys is, they are the most dedicated fighters I’ve ever worked with.

“I know Sergey is in the best shape of his life because a win over Mikey will bring him even bigger fights. We know we’ll have a tough, strong opponent on Saturday night and that’s what we’ve prepared for.”

BUDDY MCGIRT, Lipinets’ Trainer

“You have to wait until Saturday night to see what’s going to happen. After the fight I’ll tell everyone how we got the job done.

“It’s fun to me to be in these kind of fights. Mikey Garcia comes from a great pedigree of fighting. Robert Garcia is a gentleman who’s taken limited fighters and got them to the top. Mikey has a lot of talent so they have their eyes on a lot more world titles, but on Saturday night, you’ll have to wait and watch happens.”

RICHARD SCHAEFER, Chairman & CEO of Ringstar Sports

“For as little as $20 you can be part of a historic night of boxing. This arena is built for boxing so I hope all the local fans come out to witness history being made.

“SHOWTIME has continued to put on the best fights week after week and month after month. They have really become the sole leader in this sport and are a big reason why there has been such a resurgence of boxing in the U.S.

“This fight card has a little bit of everything. There are five Texans fighting on this card, most notably San Antonio’s Mario Barrios, plus emerging stars such as Alejandro Luna and Richard Commey, who are looking to make names for themselves.

“The 140-pound division is on full display Saturday night with Rances Barthelemy and Kiryl Relikh meeting in a world title rematch for a world title. Plus of course we have the historic matchup as Sergey Lipinets defends his title while Mikey Garcia seeks a fourth world title in a weight class.

“These are exciting fighters, big punchers and you will see fireworks Saturday night from Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio.”

PETR PETROV READY FOR ELIMINATION BOUT WITH IVAN BARANCHYK FRIDAY NIGHT ON SHOWTIME®

NEW YORK (March 8, 2018) – Despite taking the bout on less than five days’ notice, two-time world title challenger Petr Petrov is ready for his showdown with junior welterweight Ivan Baranchyk, this Friday night on a SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION live on SHOWTIME(10 PM ET/PT)

Petrov, who has not fought in eleven months since dropping a decision to undefeated WBO Lightweight champion Terry Flanagan, was training for a return bout in his native Spain before getting the call last weekend after Anthony Yigit fell out of the fight with Baranchyk.

Petrov arrived at the Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, South Dakota, and he is confident going into this important fight.

“I feel good. I am always training, and was getting ready for a fight in a couple months in my native Spain, so I don’t find this to be a big deal to accept this fight on short notice,” said Petrov.

What made it easy for him to take the fight, was the opportunity to fight for the number-2 position in the IBF.

“My goal is to be a world champion, and this fight gets me close to that. I don’t know anything about Baranchyk, but I know he has never fought anyone with my experience, and combined with being on the stages where I have competed will prove to be the distance on Friday night.”

The Baranchyk (16-0, 10 KOs) vs. Petrov (38-5-2, 19 KOs) bout is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Fight Promotions Inc., Holden Productions & Banner Promotions.

2012 OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALIST MARLEN ESPARZA TO HEADLINE APRIL 6 EDITION OF LA FIGHT CLUB AGAINST LAETIZIA CAMPANA ON ESTRELLATV’S BOXEO ESTELAR

LOS ANGELES (March 8, 2018): 2012 Olympic Bronze Medalist Marlen Esparza (4-0) will make her headlining debut when she takes on Philadelphia’s Laetizia Campana (2-4) in an eight-round super flyweight fight on the April 6 edition of LA FIGHT CLUB at the Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, Calif. and televised live on EstrellaTV’s Boxeo Estelar.

Esparza was the first female to sign with Golden Boy Promotions in 2016, followed by Maricela “La Diva” Cornejo and fellow super flyweight Seniesa “Superbad” Estrada. Since then, Esparza has scored four impressive victories, including a dominant win against Karla Valenzuela on the Dec. 14 edition of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN. Esparza will look to continue implementing the new tools learned under her world-renowned trainer Virgil Hunter as she inches closer to a world title opportunity.

“Golden Boy Promotions is making history by having two back-to-back LA FIGHT CLUB events headlined by a female fighter,” said Marlen Esparza. “After four fights in 2017, I’m ready to be in bigger and better fights. I will show fans on April 6 why I deserve a title shot very soon.”

Campana is a native of France who currently lives in Philadelphia. Campana has spent the majority of her career fighting in Thailand and will seek to ruin Esparza’s headlining debut in her first fight in the United States.

“I am coming to win this fight,” said Laetizia Campana. “I’m not just going through the motions. Diesel Fit Boxing Management’s team is full of champions, and I am on my way to becoming one. I have been training too hard not to win!”

In the co-main event, 130-pound prospect Hector Tanajara, Jr. (12-0, 5 KOs) will compete in an eight-round battle against an opponent who will be announced shortly. Tanajara, a native of San Antonio, Texas who is under the tutelage of Robert Garcia, will return after blasting Eduardo Rivera via first-round knockout in February.

Pablo Rubio, Jr. (10-0, 3 KOs) of Los Angeles, Calif. will open up the Boxeo Estelar broadcast in a six-round battle against Andres Balderas (4-3, 3 KOs) of Monterrey, Mexico. Rubio, Jr. is a regular favorite at LA FIGHT CLUB and brings an exciting, action-packed style in every fight.

Rigoberto Hermosillo (11-0-1, 8 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico will square off against a soon-to-be-announced opponent in a featherweight bout schedule for six rounds. Hermosillo made his professional debut on a Golden Boy Promotions card in 2013 and, after fighting the majority of his bouts in Mexico, will make a homecoming of sorts on April 6.

The night will initiate with a ten-round explosion as seasoned prospect Aidar Sharibayev (7-0, 6 KOs) takes on Enrique Tinoco (16-5-4, 12 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico for the WBA Continental Featherweight Title. Sharibayev, a native of Kazakhstan by way of Miami, Florida, is a seasoned prospect who is quickly moving up the rankings, taking yet another tough challenge in only his eighth bout.

Esparza vs. Campana is an eight-round flyweight fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions. The event is sponsored by Tecate “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING” and Casa Mexico Tequila. The Boxeo Estelar broadcast will air live on EstrellaTV at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT. The card will also stream live on EstrellaTV.com and on YouTube via LBI Media, Inc.’s Fenomeno Studios. Mark your calendars and buy your tickets for the upcoming shows on June 1, July 6, Aug. 10, and Oct. 12.

Media interested in attending the April 6 edition of LA FIGHT CLUB must be pre-approved for credentials. Credential applications are due Monday, April 2 at 5:00 p.m., and can be found here. Young to Face Reymart in WBA Eliminator on March 23 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino

Friday, March 23, in the Event Center at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, promoter Kris Lawrence’s The Heavyweight Factory will present “Rumble at the Rock,” an 11-bout night of world-class professional boxing.

Featured in the night’s main event is a 12-round WBA Bantamweight Eliminator for the mandatory contender between WBA #4-rated southpaw Stephon “Showstopper” Young (17-0-3, 7 KOs) from Saint Louis and WBA #5 Reymart “GenSan Assassin” Gaballo (18-0, 16 KOs) from General Santos City, Philippines. In the 10-round co-main, red-hot 19-year-old Hawaiian welterweight prospect Logan “The Korican Kid” Yoon (11-0, 11 KOs) will face an opponent TBA for the IBF Youth World Championship.

Special guests expected that evening include former heavyweight champions Riddick “Big Daddy” Bowe and Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield.

Tickets for “Rumble at the Rock” are priced at $55, $80, $130, and $250 and are available through ticketmaster.com.

For 29-year-old Young, the fight against Gaballo represents him getting one step closer to his dream of a world title after years as a contender.

“It feels good,” he said. “I’m in shape and ready. I feel like I have my chance to show the world who the king of the bantamweights really is. Gaballo is obviously very strong. He’s 18-0, 16 KOs. But I also feel like he hasn’t fought anyone like me yet. That’s a whole different story when you step up. It may be a case that his team is putting him into a fight like this way too soon. We will soon see.”

For 21-year-old Gaballo, the fight against Young represents a huge leap up in class of opponent. The young slugger has only fought outside his native country twice before. A victory over the well-respected Young would put him instantly on the world stage.

“I’m very happy to be fighting in this WBA eliminator and I’m looking forward to being world champ one day. I know Young is a slick southpaw fighter and he’s working hard to beat me, so I have to train twice as hard as usual to come out on top.”

Event promoter Kris Lawrence says he’s proud of this event’s world-class international flavor. “This show brings back boxing in South Florida in a big way,” he said. “We will be announcing the huge undercard shortly and it includes a variety of exciting fighters from different countries including USA, Philippines, Nicaragua, Cuba, Honduras, Haiti, Mexico and Kazakhstan. I’m very happy to be able to present this great event at a world-class venue like the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel.

“Being back at the Hard Rock brings back old memories of great years of boxing,” said Henry Rivalta Director of Heavyweight Factory Boxing Operations. “We have very evenly matched fights and this event will be extremely crowd-pleasing. I invite all South Florida fans to come witness it live at Hard Rock’s Event Center. This will be the first boxing event held in the new event center. A special thanks to Kris Lawrence for making this all possible and being a pioneer for boxing here in South Florida, past and present. Also, I want to thank Armero Tequila and Jim, Allen and Dave Gold for their support of boxing on these amazing grounds at the Seminole Hard Rock. This will be the first of many to come. See you at the fights!”

On fight night, the Event Center doors open at 6 pm and the action starts at 7 pm. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is located at 1 Seminole Way in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

WARD DEFENDS EURO STRAP AGAINST TENNYSON ON MAY 5

Martin J. Ward will defend his European Super-Featherweight title against James Tennyson – who puts his WBA International belt on the line – at The O2 in London on May 5, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Ward landed the vacant title in style in December in London by stopping Spaniard Juli Giner inside six rounds, adding the strap to his British and Commonwealth as the 26 year old aims to reach the top ticking off the titles as he goes.

Ward’s next obstacle on his way to challenging for World honours is Tennyson, the 24 year old ranked number four in the WBA after landing the International title in June stopping Ryan Doyle in six rounds on home soil and defending that title in half the time against Darren Traynor four months later.

“I’ve gone the traditional route and I’m happy I’ve done that,” said Ward. “I’m proud to be European champion and I think it’s important to defend titles when you win them so this is a good start to 2018 for me after a brilliant year last year.

“I want to progress onto the World stage now. I’ve won everything there is to win and when I beat James, I want to start working towards getting to World-level. I leave the path down to the team but I believe I am ready now and I’ll prove that on May 5.”

“It great to be part of another momentous night of boxing on Sky Sports,” said Tennyson. “Big thanks to Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing for delivering another big opportunity.

Reyes Headlines Fight Night Promotions Card March 9 at Florida State Fairgrounds

Tampa, FL (March 7, 2018) – Welterweight up and comer Mark Reyes will face veteran Larry Yanez in the main event of Fight Night Promotions’ “Friday Night Fights” Friday, March 9 at the Florida State Fairgrounds Entertainment Center in Tampa, FL.

Tickets are available by calling 813-532-5243. Doors open at 6 pm and the opening bell is at 7.

Living and fighting out of Tampa, Reyes started boxing at the age of 6, becoming a multi-time National Champion. His dream was to represent the US in the 2016 Olympics but his path to Rio was derailed by an injury. As a pro, the talented Reyes has a perfect 5-0 record with 3 wins by knockout and many industry insiders consider the 21-year-old to be one of Florida’s blue chip prospects.

Originally from Cuba and now residing in Fort Lauderdale, FL, Yanez is a fearless fighter who never turns down a challenge. He’s faced the likes of Gary Antuanne Russell, Samuel Teah, Rickey Edwards, Ivan Najera and Yoelvis Gamboa. In Novemebr 2012, Yanez upset previously unbeaten Jairo Martinez via unanimous decision.

The Reyes-Yanez fight is slated for 6 rounds.

In the co-main event , Female bantamweight sensation Jasmine “The Animal” Artega of Tampa risks her 4-0 record in a four rounder against iron-chinned Louisianan Ivanna Coleman. Artega’s won all of her bouts by knockout, three coming in the first round and she’s quickly built a reputation as a dynamic puncher with championship potential. A veteran of 9 fights, all but one of Coleman’s opponents were unbeaten and she’s never been stopped.

Cruiserweight Ramon Nicholas, 10-2 (6 KO’s) looks to continue his impressive run when he battles Jimmy “Mad Boxer” Owensby, 5-7 (2 KO’s) of Louisiana in a six round contest. Born in Cuba but now living in Miami, FL, Nicolas holds impressive victories over renowned spoiler Darnell Boone and former world title challenger Marcus Oliveira. A standout in the World Series of Boxing, both of his Nicholas’ setbacks came via disqualification. Owensby is also riding a wave of confidence, handing 5-0 Richard Brown his first defeat last July.

Junior lightweight Iron Alvarez, 1-0 (1 KO), of Winter Haven, FL meets Alabama’s Jamarkus Harmon, 0-2, in a four rounder. Locals Juan Avila, Ramon De La Paz and Michael Ream will also appear in undercard action.

“There was a lot that went into making this card happen including a last minute venue change,” said William Hunter of Fight Night Promotions. “We’re pleased to be showcasing who we believe are two of Florida’s best up and comers in Mark Reyes and Jasmine Artega. Ramon Nicholas is also a great talent who has never truly been defeated. I hope to see everybody at the Fairgrounds Friday evening.”

MIKEY GARCIA VS. SERGEY LIPINETS MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

SAN ANTONIO (March 7, 2018) – Unbeaten three division world champion Mikey Garcia and IBF Junior Welterweight World Champion Sergey Lipinets kicked off fight week in San Antonio Wednesday by participating in media workouts at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy before they enter the ring Saturday, March 10 live on SHOWTIME (10:15 p.m. ET/PT) from Freeman Coliseum.

Also participating in Wednesday’s workout and competing on the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast was two-division world champion Rances Barthelemy, who meets Kiryl Relikhin a rematch of their thrilling fight last May, this time for the vacant WBA 140-pound world title.

Unbeaten contender Mario Barrios, of San Antonio, was also in attendance on Wednesday as he prepares for his SHOWTIME EXTREME matchup against Eudy Bernardo. The SHOWTIME BOXING in SHO EXTREME telecast begins live at 8 p.m. ET/PT and features undefeated Alejandro Luna facing former world title challenger Richard Commey in a 12-round IBF Lightweight Title Eliminator.

Here is what the fighters had to say:

MIKEY GARCIA

“I want to take on these big opportunities because I want to challenge myself. This is another chance to prove to all the fans what kind of fighter I am.

“Everything depends on my opponent. If I find there’s an opportunity to go for a knockout, I’m definitely going to take it. If it goes 12 rounds, then he’s a very tough fighter and I expect Lipinets to be tough. I’m just going to do whatever it takes to win the fight. If the opportunity is there, I’m definitely going to go for the knockout because that’s what we’re here to do. I’m here to make the fight as easy as possible.

“I feel good. I’m fighting a bigger man naturally, so that’s something I have to get adjusted to but I still feel that my ability and my skills are enough to compete at the highest level with these men and that’s why I’m comfortable fighting at 140. I still feel that 135 might be a better fit for me because I’m a little bit of a naturally bigger, stronger man at 135, but at 140 I feel just as good as far as my speed, my footwork and my reflexes.

“It would be very nice to win a fourth division title. That would obviously be a big accomplishment in my career and it would be the second time I won the title here in the state of Texas. I have a lot of appreciation and love for San Antonio boxing fans.

“Some critics aren’t giving Lipinets much credit because he’s only had 13 fights, but that tells you how good of a fighter he is. It took me 30 fights to be a world champion. He’s a high caliber fighter who brings great danger. At the end of the day, I believe I’m the better boxer and that will help me get the win.”

SERGEY LIPINETS

“It was a great camp. We had a lot of different sparring partners that were giving me different looks as far as boxing abilities. Every single one of them had styles similar to Mikey. I’m ready to go. I’m not going to let anything get in the way. I’ll come out victorious Saturday night.

“I feel great. It doesn’t matter if I’m an underdog or not, I’m ready to prove everybody wrong. I really want to show everybody that I’m the one that they should be looking at; that I’m the champion.

“Mikey’s records and accomplishments don’t matter to me. He’s got two hands, two feet and one head. He’s just another person, he’s just another fighter I’m fighting. I prepared for little different things to fight Mikey but once I get in the ring, it’s going to be Mikey and me and you’ll see how it’s going to go down.

“My hand injury took place over the course of sparring. We were changing sparring partners two rounds at a time. I hit one of them at some point and the next morning [the injury] blew up. I didn’t really feel it at the time when I hurt it.

“It’s completely cured; there is no problem with the hand and you’ll see it in action on Saturday night – no problem at all.”

RANCES BARTHELEMY

“I studied [Relikh] a lot so I expect the same type of performance that I’ve studied, based off what he’s done in his past fights and what he did with me in our last fight. I know he’s strong, he’s a hard-hitter, and he always looks for that punch. I expect that this time around as well. He likes to exchange; that’s another thing I’m looking for. I know he’s going to come with all those tools in to the ring so I expect that and my team has prepared exactly for that.

“I feel like a completely new guy. In the past, I’ve eaten poorly before and after fights. I feel like I’ve reconnected with my youth. My energy has come back thanks to Bob Santos, my new strength and conditioning coach, who has taught me a lot about nutrition and things that I can use not just in the ring, but also outside of the ring — things I can use to prolong my life.

“I’m unlocking some of the skills I had in my younger days. They will be one of the key determining factors in how I perform on Saturday. I haven’t felt this good in a long time and I’m thankful for that because I feel like a new guy. I usually have concerns about making weight, but not this time around.

“My nutrition and physical condition took a toll on me last time I fought. I didn’t think my body was going to react the way it did when I got into the ring. My legs really gave out on me. But not now. This time around, I’m coming with a whole new gameplan and I’m not going to have to force myself to adapt to [Relikh’s] strategy. The first time we fought, I felt like I had to fight his fight. I had to make adjustments in the ring and exchange a lot with him. I took a lot of punishment.

“I’m definitely not looking past Relikh, I’m really focused on this fight. I want to win this fight. I’m looking for big names after. I can fight anyone between 135 and 147 now. Broner, Garcia, Lomachenko, it’s only big names what I’m after next.”

MARIO BARRIOS

“This fight it’s a huge step up and probably my toughest fight to date. My opponent looks really good on paper and he has a lot of power. But I’m not concerned. I had a great camp and I’m ready to give my best in front of my hometown fans.I really hope he is ready to fight because I’m going to go in there on Saturday and take care of business. It’s going to be a very explosive fight.

“We are going to continue climbing the ranks at 140. I hope that I can face Mikey Garcia or Rances Barthelemy at some point. I think early next year I may be ready to go toe-to-toe with them.

“No added pressure fighting at home, all of this is motivation. I’ve been waiting to fight back here for a while. I’m excited for this opportunity

“Every time I’m out there in the Bay Area at Virgil Hunter’s gym I’m always picking up different things. Every camp, l learn from different guys at the gym – Andre Dirrell, Andre Ward, Amir Kahn. We have our game plan, which I can’t discuss, but going for it on Saturday. We should be able to go in there and take care of business, no problem.”

Denver (via Mexico’s) Hernandez is no easy challenge for any fighter, especially one with just two pro fights. In just the past year, Hernandez slapped highly rated prospect Danny Valdivia with his first two career losses (now 14-2) via deserved decisions.

“I’m very happy to be going back to Chicago to fight,” said Mytrofanov. “I’ve been training very hard for this fight in Oxnard for the last weight weeks with world-class sparring partners. I’m in terrific shape and looking forward to a great win. I don’t know much about my opponent, but I will make adjustments in the ring because I’m ready for anything anyone brings.”

I’m very excited about this show,” said promoter Andrew Sobko. I have been following boxing since my father was a Ukrainian boxing champion. I grew up in the boxing industry. I am honored to be able to bring this great event to the boxing-rich city of Chicago and its great fans. My matchmaker, Jerry Alfano, is doing a wonderful job of making sure every fight will be an action-packed war.”

The terrific undercard will be announced shortly.

On fight night, the action starts at 6 pm. The Midwest Conference Center is located at 401 W Lake Street in Northlake, IL. For more information, visit natexboxing.com, Twitter: @natexboxing or visit us on Facebook at facebook.com/natexboxing.

KELLY FACES MOLINA FOR FIRST TITLE SHOT IN CARDIFF

Josh Kelly will face former IBF World champion Carlos Molina for the WBA International Welterweight title at Principality Stadium in Cardiff on March 31, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Kelly fights for his first title in just his sixth pro outing and first stadium appearance since turning over in April. The Team GB Rio Olympian has not needed to go beyond six rounds so far, with his last appearance an impressive sixth round stoppage win in his first scheduled ten rounder in London in December.

Kelly, who turned 24 today, now faces a huge step-up in class as he targets landing his first belt in the shape of former Super-Welterweight king Molina. The Mexican won his World crown in September 2013 beating Ishe Smith in his Las Vegas backyard and will provide Kelly with a stiff examination of the promise he’s shown in his first year in the paid ranks – but Kelly says that trainer Adam Booth is ready to let him off the leash.

“Adam said it’s time for me to step up, so let’s go,” said Kelly. “I feel this is a real test against a proven fighter. He’s a former World Champion so you can’t deny this is my biggest fight to date. I can’t wait to step between those ropes in Cardiff and propel myself into the mix.

“He’s never been stopped so it says a lot. Just look at the names on his record that he’s been in with, I know how tough he will be. The motivation is to win against any fighter is enough for me, I want to perform on the big stage – I’m very excited to say the least.

“I’m ready for this. I feel physically, mentally and emotionally ready to take this step up and have been for a fight or two. I’ve learnt a lot in the fights and in training over the past year and also got to know myself even more. The learning process never stops, there’s improvements to be made with each fight and every step up starting March 31.”

Kelly’s clash with Molina is part of a huge night of action in Cardiff as Anthony Joshua MBE and Joseph Parker meet in a World Heavyweight unification blockbuster.

Ryan Burnett defends his WBA World Bantamweight crown against Yonfrez Parejo and Alexander Povetkin puts his WBA Inter-Continental and WBO International titles against Liverpool favourite David Price and Welshman Joe Cordina fights for his first pro title with the WBA International Lightweight belt on the line against Andy Townend.

Xcite Fight Night Media Day Quotes

PHILADELPHIA – Philly fighters featured on the Xcite Fight Night card this Friday, March 9 at Parx Casino participated in an open to the public media workout Tuesday at Joe Hand Gym.

Here’s what they had to say!

Avery Sparrow, Featherweight, Ranked No. 14 by WBO
Sparrow one of the fastest-rising prospects in the Philadelphia area, will take on seasoned veteran Jesus Serrano, of Nogales, Mexico in the main event.

“I watched some footage on Jesus Serrano. About one minute and then I turned it off and put on Floyd Mayweather. I wasn’t too impressed. Every time I see the possibly of an upset, I get more confident.”

“Some things that happened last year were designed just for me. The universe was working in my favor. After I fought Anthony Burgin, everything just fell in my lap.”

“When I fought Isaelin Florian that was 8 days notice. That came fast. But I’m in the gym and I’m not shying away from any opportunities. I wake up every day to be a star.”

“I watched 30 seconds of Jose Lopez and said, ‘Oh yea, we got this.’ I took the fight in eleven days notice. I could have done better. But I won convincingly.”

“I’m pushing to be a world champion. I got to beat certain guys and do certain things to get there. But I am willing to do those things. I’m getting better every fight. I train for a 12-round world championship fight every fight.”

“Winning two Philly Briscoe Awards is amazing. These are the little steps that we take to get to the big stage. It is satisfying.”

John Joe Nevin, Ireland’s 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist
Nevin who won a silver medal for Ireland in the 2012 Olympics, returns to Philadelphia for the second time when he boxes four- time Canadian national amateur champion Alex Torres Rynn in the scheduled eight-round lightweight semifinal.

“I don’t know Alex Torres Rynn. He knows me. Apparently, he’s talking some sh*t. He just wants to make a name for himself. I don’t think he’s that stupid to think he can win. He’s going to get his ass kicked. He can’t talk so much when he’s sleep!” -John Joe Nevin https://youtu.be/Y1QAqZPm3UE

Jerome Conquest, WBF Lightweight Champion
Conquest of Philadelphia, a former Parx Casino® employee, will test himself against seasoned veteran Tyrone Luckey of Neptune, NJ.

Even before I turned pro, they judged me. They said I was nothing. They said I was a follower. But after 11 fights, I won a regional world title!” -Jerome Conquest https://youtu.be/BJRb_H2Cvhw

Nahir Albright, Junior Welterweight
Albright of Sickerville, NJ faces off with Sidney Maccow of New York, who will be traveling to Pennsylvania for the first time since his pro debut in 2014.

“I had an eight-week camp. I stay in the gym all year round. waiting for an opportunity. The guy I’m fighting is a veteran. He’s got more fights than me. I have to stick to the gameplan and be ready. I like Manny Pacquiao. He came from nothing. He used to run with no shoes. It shows you that hard work will get you anywhere in this sport.” -Nahir Albright https://youtu.be/aLUz6Os8WP4

Isaiah Wise, 2017 Briscoe Award Nominee, Fight of the Year vs Fred Jenkins
Wise of North Philadelphia, will be in a classic Philly vs. New Jersey match up when he goes toe-to-toe with Anthony Prescott of Cherry Hill.

“Anthony Prescott is durable. He’s a crafty veteran. He’s not going to stop. But I don’t think he’s used to someone applying pressure like I do. I’m gritty. I want to live up to being a Philly fighter.”

AWE to Air Live Bellew v. Haye II, on Saturday, May 5th

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – March 7, 2018 -On Saturday afternoon, May 5th, AWE is featuring former world champions Tony Bellew and David Haye in one of the most anticipated rematches of all time. The heavyweights will square off in an epic bout that will be carried live and exclusively by AWE, A Wealth of Entertainment, in the United States.

The network announced that it secured the US rights for the fight, which is the sequel to the unforgettable first bout, which took place on March 4, 2017. The rematch will take place at the same 02 Arena in London.

In the first bout, Bellew was able to survive an early onslaught by Haye to score two knockdowns en route to an 11th round stoppage. The first fight can rival any of the Rocky movies for drama and determination. Bellew suffered a broken hand in the early rounds with Haye barely able to stand due to a ruptured Achilles tendon. Both fighters exhibited tremendous heart, leading to much excitement heading into this rematch.

The rematch was originally ticketed for last December 17th but had to be postponed after Haye tore a bicep.

“We’re ecstatic to be bringing this epic rematch to AWE viewers,” stated Charles Herring, president of AWE. “This fight has broad appeal because the first bout, which aired on AWE, was one of the most amazing fights in 2017. It had a true “Rocky” feel, with Haye challenged by his injury. Bellew has broad appeal in the United States due to his appearance in the movie Creed. Boxing fans love heavyweights for their explosive power and exciting matches, and the winner should be in a position for a shot at a world title bout.”

Bellew, of Liverpool, has a record of 29-2-1 with 19 knockouts and is the former WBC Cruiserweight champion. The 35-year-old is an 11-year professional who has big wins over Edison Miranda, Isaac Chilemba, Valery Brudov, Julio Cesar Dos Santos, Marteusz Masternack, and former world champion Nathan Cleverly. Bellew won the WBC Cruiserweight title with a 3rd round stoppage over Ilunga Makabu. He defended the crown once with a 3rd round stoppage over BJ Flores before he moved up to heavyweight for the historic Haye bout.

Haye, of London, has a record of 28-3 with 26 knockouts. He is the former WBA, WBO, and WBC Cruiserweight champion, and the former WBA Heavyweight champion. The 37-year-old Haye is a 16-year proven professional who has wins over former world title challenger Alexander Gurov, and former world champions Arthur Williams and Giacobbe Fragomeni. Haye won the WBA and WBC Cruiserweight title with a 7th round stoppage over JeanMarc Mormeck. He added the WBO belt with a 2 round destruction of Enzo Maccarinelli. Haye won the WBA Heavyweight championship with a 12-round majority decision over Nikolay Valuev. Haye made defenses against John Ruiz and countryman Audley Harrison before being dethroned by Wladimir Klitscko.

The time of the event will be announced shortly.

The fight card will also be streamed live via KlowdTV on the AWE channel. Visit www.klowdtv.com for additional information.

Ashley arrives in Denmark, ready for WBC World title showdown with Thorslund

Alicia Ashley (24-11, 4 KOs) has arrived in Denmark, ready for her WBC Female World Super Bantamweight Championship contest against undefeated hometown hero Dina Thorslund (10-0, 6 KOs) on Saturday at the Struer Energi Park.

Accompanied by legendary coach Hector Roca, the former two-time WBC World Champion touched down in Copenhagen earlier this week, and came face-to-face with Thorslund today at a press conference at the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers hotel.

“I’m very happy to be here. I have fought all over the world and I’m looking forward to showcasing my skills for the Danish fans on Saturday,” said Ashley.

“I’m a boxer. I will use my movement and experience, but I can also stand and fight. I have a lot of weapons in my arsenal. Fighting away from home, I might be the underdog, but I have been in this situation many times before and have come out on top.”

Born in Jamaica, Ashley moved to America as a child and grew up in Brownsville, the tough Brooklyn neighbourhood, which among other notable fighters has produced former heavyweight champions Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe and Shannon Briggs.

“I moved to America when I was 11 years old and grew up in Brownsville, Brooklyn. I was raised by a single mother with 2 older brothers, and we had a very competitive and highly disciplined upbringing,” she says.

Still based in New York, the fighter known as ‘Slick’ trains out of Brooklyn’s legendary Gleason’s Gym, and on Saturday, will rely on a wealth of experience with veteran coach Hector Roca and former pro-fighter Ada Velez comprising her corner team.

Roca has trained multiple World Champions including Boxing Hall Of Famer Arturo ‘Thunder’ Gatti, and was even tasked with training Oscar wining actress Hilary Swank for her role the Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby. While, Velez, a former World title-holder, returns to Denmark following a competitive 2004 fight with Anita Christensen in Aarhus.

Despite her opponent’s optimism, Thorslund insists she is ready to write her name in the history books as the first Danish World Champion since Mikkel Kessler defeated Brian Magee in 2012, and only the second female World Champion after Anita Christensen.

“I have a lot of respect for Alicia and what she has acheived in her career, but it’s my time now,” says Thorslund. “I have trained really hard, and on Saturday night, I look forward to winning my first World title in front of my home fans in Struer.”

With current champion Fatuma Zarika injured, Thorslund and Ashley will contest the ‘interim’ WBC title. Upon her return, Zarika will fight the winner of Thorslund and Ashley to determine the WBC’s ‘undisputed’ 122lbs champion.

Tickets are available online via www.ticketsmaster.dk or by calling 70 15 65 65. Thorslund’s and Ashley’s WBC World title contest will be broadcast live on TV3+ in Denmark from 20.30 with the full undercard shown on Viaplay Fighting.

GARCIA AIMING TO BECOME FOUR-WEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION AS HE TAKES ON UNDEFEATED HITTER LIPINETS EXCLUSIVELY LIVE ON BOXNATION THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

LONDON (7 March, 2018) – Boxing ace Mikey Garcia will attempt to become a four-weight world champion when he faces unbeaten 140-pound titleholder Sergey Lipinets exclusively live on BoxNation this Saturday night.

30-year-old Garcia, with a record of 37 fights unbeaten with 30 KOs, is regarded amongst the best pound-for-pound fighters around and will be looking to add Lipinets IBF light-welterweight crown to his collection.

The Kazakh born boxer however will be in no mood to surrender his championship belt and has dismissed all 13 of his opponents, with ten of those failing to hear the final bell.

Californian Garcia enjoyed an impressive 2017 by scoring a highlight reel knockout of Dejan Zlaticanin to win the WBC lightweight world title in January before dominating four-division champion Adrien Broner on his way to a unanimous decision in July.

With a win, Garcia would become only the third fighter in modern history to become champion at 126, 130, 135 and 140-pounds, joining future Hall of Famers Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao.

Taking place at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, Garcia, who hails from a famous boxing family, will be looking to do them proud this weekend.

“It is a dream to have the opportunity to become a four-division world champion,” Garcia said. “San Antonio has some of the greatest boxing fans in the country, including some key supporters of my Robert Garcia Boxing Academy family. Since my last fight, I have stayed in the gym. I can’t wait to give the fans in Texas and those watching at home another great performance.”

28-year-old Lipinets is a genuine 140-pounder and he will be hoping that the leap up in weight will be too much for Garcia.

Trained by Buddy McGirt, Lipinets captured his world title in his last fight by defeating Akihiro Kondo via a unanimous decision in November.

He is well aware a victory over the accomplished Garcia will cement his place as a top-level operator.

“Getting the title is one thing, but keeping the title is a more difficult task,” said Lipinets. “I’m not about to give it away to anybody. No disrespect to Mikey Garcia or anybody else out there, but I’m keeping my title. Beating Mikey Garcia will put me in the elite of boxing where I believe I belong. I’m happy my team was able to put this great fight together. I can promise you this won’t be a snoozer. It’s going to be an action-packed fight for sure.”

Jim McMunn, BoxNation Managing Director, said: “Mikey Garcia has proved that he is one of the most exciting and best fighters around today. He has an extremely high skill-set and BoxNation subscribers will have the opportunity to see him put that into action this Saturday night against the undefeated IBF world champion Sergey Lipinets. Lipinets has impressed in his early career and he knows a victory will propel him to the very top of the 140-pound division. It will be an action-packed fight, with Garcia aiming to become a four-weight world champion exclusively live on BoxNation.”

RITSON DEFENDS BRITISH TITLE AGAINST CARDLE ON MARCH 24

Lewis Ritson will defend his British Lightweight title against Scotty Cardle at The O2 in London on March 24, live on Sky Sports.

Ritson put in a stunning performance in his first defence at the end of February, destroying Joe Murray in the first round in Manchester to move to 14-0 with an eighth stoppage.

The ‘Sandman’ was back in the city he landed the title in October, stopping Robbie Barrett in the seventh round to claim the Lord Lonsdale belt.

Barrett had ripped that title from Cardle in Glasgow in April, handing the Lytham St Annes man his first pro defeat, but this shot at Ritson offers the 28 year old a chance to reclaim the prestigious title for keeps and get back into contention for more major honours.

“I’ve made a couple of statements now by beating Barrett and then Murray – and I want to do it again against Cardle,” said Ritson.

“We wanted the Cardle fight in Manchester but he pulled out. Scotty wants the title back and he’s in a similar position to Joe Murray was where he really needs to win the fight but if he gets beat, where does he go? So that should make it a really good fight.

“Domestic level could be described as European level really as the lads at Lightweight like Scotty and Sean Dodd are top fighters.

“I’ve sparred with all the top names like Ricky Burns, Anthony Crolla, Kiryl Relikh and of course Cardle – so boxing people know what I can do and now that I’m with Eddie and Matchroom on Sky Sports, the public are getting to see what I can do too.

“I’ve been on small hall shows in the past and now I’m headlining on Sky Sports and heading to The O2 on a big show – it’s amazing and I’m working hard to make sure that this is just the beginning.”

“Lewis showed against Murray what he can do,” said Cardle. “He’s a deserved British champion but obviously I believe that he’s just holding that belt for me to take it from him. He’s an honourable guy so hats off to him for fighting me next, anyone that knows me knows that I didn’t show up against Barrett in Glasgow, what he did to Robbie is what I could’ve done, but I wasn’t myself that night. No excuses – I wasn’t good enough.

“I’ve had a six rounder since that fight but this is the one I want. I need to get that title back and show that I am the best in Britain.

“Joe Gallagher was in Germany with Callum Smith so the preparation wasn’t right to do it in Manchester, but I’ll be fully prepared for March 24 and ready to get my belt back.”

Ritson and Cardle clash on a huge night of action in Greenwich as Dillian Whyte and Lucas Browne meet for Whyte’s WBC Silver Heavyweight title in a crucial clash for the division while Frank Buglioni defends his British Light-Heavyweight title against Callum Johnson.

Tickets for Whyte vs. Browne at The O2 in London are on sale now priced £40, £60 and £100 from www.theO2.co.uk. VIP tickets priced £200 are exclusively available from www.matchroomboxing.com

Face value tickets for March 24 are available from http://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets/ . StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing and Anthony Joshua.

Battle In The Ballroom Boxing Series Announced for Fairmont Hotel In San Francisco Five Star Resort to Host First Ever Sporting Event

Pro boxing returns to San Francisco in a very big way on Saturday night April 7th, as Hard Hitta Promotions announced today a new pro boxing series in downtown San Francisco at the historic five-star Fairmont Hotel. A six-bout pro boxing card will be staged in the 1,250 seat Fairmont Grand Ballroom featuring longtime contender and San Francisco native Karim Mayfield in the featured bout along with a host of other Bay area boxing prospects.

Presented by Mayfield’s Hard Hitta Promotions, in association with Humboldt Boxing Promotions, this event will be the first boxing show ever held at the historic five-star Fairmont, and to celebrate, fight fans will be treated to an action-packed six-fight card headlined by an eight-round welterweight showdown between Mayfield and Gaku Takahashi. “I really wanted to bring boxing back to San Francisco in a classy manner,” said Mayfield, “and you can’t get classier than the Fairmont.” And to ensure that this new boxing series will be the best to hit the Bay Area in years, Hard Hitta Promotions has retained long time fight promoter Roy Englebrecht as a show consultant. Englebrecht is best know for selling his company to Oscar De La Hoya in 2002 and forming Golden Boy Promotions where he served as COO the first three years. Englebrecht was also the promoter who launched the original Battle In The Ballroom shows at the Irvine Marriott starting in the 1990’s and running for 25 consecutive years.

Tickets for Battle in the Ballroom, priced at $80, $100, and $250, are available by ordering online at http://www.hardhittapromotions.com/

Doors open at 5pm and the first bell rings at 6pm.

A veteran of a dozen years in the pro game, Karim Mayfield (20-4-1, 11 KOs) is a proud native of San Francisco who has represented his city well on the international boxing scene despite starting late in the sport at the age of 20. But he has made up for lost time by winning the NABO junior welterweight title and beating some of the best fighters in his division, including Steve Forbes, Mauricio Herrera and Raymond Serrano. Fresh from an October win over previously unbeaten Miguel Dumas, the 37-year-old will now face off with Gaku Takahashi. A native of Hokkaido, Japan who now makes his home in Los Angeles, Takahashi (15-8-1, 7 KOs) is a gritty southpaw who always comes to fight, and he knows that a win over Mayfield would be a career-altering victory for him.

One of San Francisco’s top prospects, Willie Shaw Jr. (5-0, 4 KOs) has been living up to his nickname “The Thrill” since turning pro in 2017, and after a rookie year in which he went unbeaten and scored four knockouts, the 25-year-old will kick off year two in a six-round junior welterweight bout against an opponent to be named.

In lightweight action scheduled for four rounds, San Fran’s own Lennard David (1-1-3) takes on Tulare’s David Cruz Rivera (0-2).

Middleweight veterans Ricardo Pinnel (15-3-1, 8 KOs) and Enrique Gallegos (7-6-1) also get the call, as San Francisco’s Pinnel defends his home turf in a six-rounder against Medford, Oregon’s Gallegos.

Another local battler, Topie Pedro, will make her pro debut in a four-round junior featherweight bout against Novato’s Marquita Lee, and in the four-round cruiserweight opener, hometown favorite Roberto Andres Salas (1-0) fights for the second time against Ignacio Zambrano.

PETR PETROV TO FACE IVAN BARANCHYK IN IBF JUNIOR WELTERWEIGHT ELIMINATOR THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 9 LIVE ON SHOWTIME®

NEW YORK (March 6, 2018) – Undefeated 140-pound contender Ivan Baranchyk will now face former world title challenger Petr Petrov this Friday, March 9, in the co-featured bout on SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION live on SHOWTIME at 10 p.m. ET/PT from Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood, SD. The contest will be an eliminator for the No. 2 position in the IBF junior welterweight world rankings.

Petrov replaces Anthony Yigit, who has withdrawn due to illness.

“We are looking forward to having Petr compete this Friday night on Showtime,” said Banner Promotions President, Artie Pelullo. “Petr is a world championship caliber fighter, and by taking this fight on just five days notice, it shows the character that Petr has. I expect he will put on a great performance on Friday night and get himself on the doorstep of another world title opportunity.”

“Baranchyk and Petrov are both known for their all-action styles and are never in a bad fight. It is a tremendous addition to this card, and I’m thrilled we were able to put the bout together on short notice. The fact that Petr was training for another fight once again made it possible to create a superior fight under difficult circumstances,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment.

Sporting a record of 38-5-2 with 19 KOs, the 34-year-old Petrov, of Ryazan, Russia, and based in Madrid, Spain, will look to bounce back into the win column following a hotly contested 12-round decision loss to WBO Lightweight World Champion Terry Flanagan on April 8, 2017, in Manchester, England. Prior to the loss to Flanagan, Petrov was on a six-bout winning streak, including victories over Michael Perez, Marvin Quintero and Gamalial Diaz. Over the last 10 years, Petrov’s only other losses have come against world champions Marcos Maidana and Dejan Zlaticanin.

“I am grateful for this opportunity to fight of the number-2 position in the IBF. A victory will open the doors for me to get another world title shot,” said Petrov. “Baranchyk is a tough fighter who is right in front of you. This will not be an easy fight, but I am a veteran who can adapt to any style.”

The Baranchyk (16-0, 10 KOs) vs. Petrov bout is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, in association with Fight Promotions Inc., Holden Productions & Banner Promotions.

The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast begins at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT and also features two-division world champion Rances Barthelemy taking on Kiryl Relikh in a rematch of their thrilling fight last May, this time for the vacant WBA 140-pound world title.

Barrios has won four fights in a row by knockout since moving up to the 140-pound division in 2017, all while under the tutelage of renowned trainer Virgil Hunter in Oakland. Here is what Barrios had to say about training camp, his upcoming fight and more:

On his matchup with Eudy Bernardo…

“He is a solid opponent with a lot of experience. He has a high work rate that you can tell that by his nickname ‘AK-47’. He is the perfect opponent for me at this point in my career as I start my climb to a world title. I know he’s coming to fight as am I, so there will definitely be some fireworks.”

On filling in to the 140-pound division…

“I have filled out perfectly for this division and working with Virgil Hunter has helped a lot. It is no secret that I have had four fights with Virgil Hunter and each one of them has ended with a knockout. I am stronger than ever, and I feel completely comfortable at junior welterweight. This is the weight class that I’ll be campaigning for a world title at.”

On fighting in his hometown of San Antonio….

“It is a blessing to fight in my hometown. I get homesick sometimes when I train as I think about family, friends and all the places I love to visit back home. It feels good, not just to be able to fight at home, but to put on a great show for everyone that knows me as well. San Antonio needs a big star they can get behind and I feel I can be the one to fill that role.”

On fighting on SHO EXTREME…

“Whenever your fight is televised it is a great honor, but I truly believe SHOWTIME is doing amazing things for boxing right now, and to be on this telecast is tremendous. I work very hard in the gym and pride myself on a fan-pleasing style and getting opportunities to show off my skills on such a large platform is amazing and something I am very grateful for.”

On his recent training camp…

“This camp has been very good. I’ve gotten lots of different looks and I’m well prepared to go into battle. I love training at Virgil Hunter’s Boxing Gym because we have a great routine, with a lot of top fighters. I also started training with SNAC’s Remi Korchemny, who is increasing my speed and endurance, which will be very noticeable in this fight. I have trained very hard for this fight, so you can expect a great performance.”

Salita Signs Promotional Deal with Undefeated Ukrainian Junior Featherweight Arnold Khegai

Dmitriy Salita of Salita Promotions proudly announces the signing of undefeated Korean Ukrainian junior featherweight prospect Arnold Khegai.

From the town of Razdelnoye in the region of Odessa, in the Ukraine, Khegai (11-0-1, 8 KOs) was last seen ripping away the undefeated record of then 11-1 Russian prospect Valery Tretyakov via last-second tenth-round KO.

“I really want to win over the audience in the US with my exciting style and my physical strength and endurance,” said the 25-year-old Khegai. “I am ready and willing to fight the best fighters in my weight class; anyone who stands in my path of getting a world title belt.”

Khegai switched over from being a world champion Thai boxer to a professional boxer in 2015 and has torn through a stiff level of domestic competition along the way.

Married with a degree from the Institute of Food Academy, Khegai says the deal with his promoter will set all of his dreams in motion. “I am very excited about signing this deal with Salita,” he continued. “Now that I have time to properly prepare, my goal is to fight my way through the 122-lb division and become undisputed world champion.

“Arnold is a proud member of the small Korean community in the Ukraine,” said Dmitriy Salita. “He is incredibly strong and powerful and will be a challenge for anyone in the division. I am excited to have him make his debut on American soil on my show on April 20. I have no doubt he will quickly become a fan favourite and world champion.”
