The bout will headline a nine-bout card promoted by Rising Promotions, Greg Cohen Promotions, Devin Haney Promotions & Winner Take All Productions.

“This is boxing and changes always happen. I was looking forward to fighting Mendez but due to visa issues, that killed the fight. Wasn’t my favorite choice as opponent but Amoako was the first to sign contract last minute,” said LaManna.

Amoako of Silver Spring, Maryland via Accra, Ghana, has a record of 23-16 with 17 knockouts.

The 33 year-old Amoako is a 12 year-veteran and has wins over Albert Mensah (9-2-1) & Richard Amenfu (9-2). Deontay Wilder vs. Bermane Stiverne Final Press Conference Quotes

BROOKLYN (November 2, 2017) – WBC Heavyweight World Champion Deontay Wilder and former world champion Bermane Stiverne went face-to-face and exchanged words onstage Thursday at the final press conference before they battle in the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING main event this Saturday, November 4 from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™.

Presented by Premier Boxing Champions, the event features former world champion Shawn Porter taking on Adrian Granados in a welterweight world title eliminator. The three-fight SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast begins live at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT with unbeaten Sergey Lipinets battling Japan’s Akihiro Kondo for the vacant IBF Junior Welterweight World Championship.

Joining the fighters and press conference participants onstage was Hall of Fame Promoter Don King, who promotes Stiverne and predicted that his fighter would shock the world and deliver an upset on Saturday night.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment and TGB Promotions, are on sale now and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, barclayscenter.com or by calling 800-745-3000. Tickets can also be purchased at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center. Group discounts are available by calling 844-BKLYN-GP.

Here is what the press conference participants had to say Thursday from the Edison Ballroom in Manhattan:

DEONTAY WILDER

“Stiverne was the only man to survive the ‘Alabama Slammer’ and avoid a knockout. When I knock him out, then nobody will be able to say they made it through against me. He was nothing but a lot of lumps and excuses after the first fight.

“It’s been a long road for me. I’ve had my ups and my downs. The ups I’ve celebrated, but the downs have hurt the most. It’s all led me to here. All I ever wanted to do is prove to the world that I am the best. I am the baddest. I hit the hardest. I am the most feared. My record speaks for itself.

“Winner takes all. I am a man of my word. We’ve heard Bermane Stiverne say these same things before. We’ve heard it all before. What happened the first time? Everybody knows. Hopefully he doesn’t get dehydrated this time.

“This just turned up into a whole other level. The ambulance better be ready. The medical teams better be ready. The referee better be ready. They better have that towel to be able to throw it in because every blow is going to mean something. This just got even more personal.

“There’s nothing different that he can bring to the table. He brought everything he could bring the first time. He brought all his tricks – all his power. There’s nothing he’s going to be able to do this time. The only thing he’s going to be able to do is pick his spot on the ground where he’s going to lay at.”

“I do my talking and my walking in that ring. That’s what it’s all about. That’s why we’re here. November 4 the truth with reveal itself. That’s when it counts. When Deontay Wilder speaks, I mean what I say. But I’m going to show you, instead of tell you, on Saturday night.

“This will be an electrifying fight. That belt isn’t going anywhere. I will unify the division. I will be the undefeated, undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.”

BERMANE STIVERNE

“Deontay Wilder has been trying to duck me. He’s been giving a lot of excuses about my career. He should be happy if I’ve been inactive. He should be jumping in the air. Everyone knows that means he’s scared. He knows what time it is.

“He already gave me his best. I had nothing last fight. But now I’m a very dangerous man. Everyone here knows what time it is.

“I feel great and I feel strong. There will be no excuses this time. I can guarantee you this. I’m 100 percent this time.

“Deontay said he fears for my life. Well, I don’t fear for his life. I’m going to do whatever it takes to grab that title. And I’ll walk away with a smile on my face.

“You caught me sleeping last time. Nobody is going to be sleeping this time. I’m going to be on you all night. It’s over for you.

“This is a fighter that I took him the longest rounds in any of his fights. He had never gone past seven or eight.

“He’s like a third round or fourth round knockout guy depending on the level of his opponent. Anyone that would be a decent or strong opponent, he’s not going to last. From rounds six through 12 he didn’t do much. Everything was in the first six.

“His last fights that I’ve watched, I haven’t seen any progress.

“Saturday, November 4 I will be two-time heavyweight champion of the world. No one can stop me. He can smile all he wants. But on Saturday I’m taking that belt home with me.”

SHAWN PORTER

“I’m glad to be back. I’m excited to fight once more before the year is done. This is really another tremendous fight card and I’m honored to be a part of it.

“I’m getting the seats warm this time before Deontay comes to close the show. You’re definitely going to want to be paying attention to this fight.

“I wanted to get back in the ring. Adrian Granados was also looking for a fight and was willing to accept the fight. It’s as simple as that. I’m a boxer and my job is to compete against the best. Right now, he’s the best challenge that I have.

“This is a great matchup. This is really fan friendly action everyone is going to see. I know I’m facing an aggressive guy who is going to come at me with everything he’s got.

“I enjoy every bit about fighting at Barclays Center. The energy is always great in that building. The atmosphere is really unbelievable. I’m happy to fight there again.

“The respect that Granados and I have for each other, that’s what boxing is all about. It’s about getting in the ring and competing. We wanted someone that was going to come here and fight me. We didn’t want someone who was going to run or lay down. We want to close the year out in fantastic form, and the best way to do that is by facing Granados.”

ADRIAN GRANADOS

“I’m very grateful to be here and have this opportunity against Shawn Porter. I appreciate it and I thank him and his team. This is definitely going to be a great fight.

“I’m fighting for everyone back home and all the people that are with me every day. Everyone knows how dedicated we are and that will all come together on fight night.

“This is all about proving myself and showing that I belong with the best of the sport. I have to take an opportunity like this when it’s offered to me. There’s nothing to do now but get in the ring and get down to business.

“This is a tremendous opportunity. I’m coming to win, not lay down. I’m here to fight. We both have fan-friendly styles and may the best man win.”

SERGEY LIPINETS

“This is a dream come true for me. I had to work very hard and overcome a lot to get to this point. Now that I’m here, I want to give the fans a great fight.

“I’m going to go for the knockout and become a world champion. This is the thing that motivates me every day through this hard training camp.

“I am prepared for anything Kondo can bring to the ring. He has earned his right to fight for the title and I have to take him very seriously and be at my very best.”

AKIHIRO KONDO

“I’m going to do my best to win for all of my fans in Japan. I’m going to take this world title belt back home to Japan and I’m happy to have the support of my country.

“I’ve come a long way to get here. This is the mecca of boxing. I feel really relaxed and calm. This feels like a normal fight for me still.

“No matter what happens in this fight, I think that is going to come down to heart. I am determined not to lose in that area.”

LOU DIBELLA, President of DiBella Entertainment

“This is a terrific card from top to bottom. I love this show. Dominic Breazeale vs. Eric Molina, Amanda Serrano a pound-for-pound champion, and two undefeated local kids Chris Colbert and Titus Williams, all featured on this card. The show is truly loaded with talent and stars.

“Nothing gets bigger than the defense of America’s only heavyweight championship. Deontay Wilder defending his title against Bermane Stiverne, the only man that Deontay has not been able to knockout.

“This is a dangerous fight. Stiverne is big, strong and he can punch. This is Christmas for him. He has nothing to lose. He can walk out of here with the heavyweight championship of the world.

“Shawn Porter is fighting against a real deserving challenger. Shawn is a champion with or without a belt, and Granados always makes great fights and he’s going to give it 120 percent.

“Kondo is a very accomplished fighter, but he’s going to have his hands full with Sergey LIpinets. Whenever LIpinets gets in the ring, someone gets hurt. I think he has a chance to go very far.”

DON KING, Hall of Fame Promoter

“I want to thank all of these young men up here who are fighting for the crown. Stiverne has something in store for Wilder on Saturday night that will be a shock. It’s going to be the Fight of the Year. Unquestionably.

“Deontay has never really met Bermane Stiverne, so I’m going to introduce them. It’s going to be a fantastic night of fighting at Barclays Center. You will have a tremendous upset on Saturday night when Bermane Stiverne knocks out Deontay Wilder.

“After this happens, we can have a rubber match. It will be an exciting time for me on Saturday night and the start of a ‘November to Remember.'”

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, Executive Vice President & General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports

“This weekend’s telecast will be the second weekend of heavyweight title fights on SHOWTIME. We all know these two faced each other in 2015, but neither fighter went home happy. Deontay was impressive but he didn’t get the knockout. Stiverne is the only blemish on Wilder’s perfect knockout streak. Ever since that fight, Bermane has been asking for the rematch. On Saturday both men will get their wish. Deontay can send a message to the rest of the division and Bermane gets a second chance at a world title

“The first time they fought, everyone saw it as Deontay’s toughest opponent. Out of 42 media members, 22 predicted Deontay to win and 20 picked Stiverne. This is an all-action heavyweight fight with America’s heavyweight world champion.

“Sometimes a big fight can suck up the attention from the co-featured fights on the card. Both of these opening bouts could have been a main event and would be a main event on any other network. Porter and Granados is an intriguing matchup of all action fighters and if you haven’t seen Sergey LIpinets fight, I urge you to turn on the TV early and get to the arena, because this will be an entertaining fight.

“By the end of the night we will have done 29 world title fights this year alone. There is no other network that could put on that many high quality fights. We look forward to closing the year on a strong note on Saturday night.”

BRETT YORMARK, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment

“This Saturday will be our last Brooklyn boxing event of the year. It’s been an incredible 2017. It started with Badou Jack vs. James DeGale, then in March the Keith Thurman vs. Danny Garcia fight, which was probably the biggest we ever had at the arena. It hit new marks that we hadn’t seen before. This summer we had the Mikey Garcia vs. Adrien Broner fight and we’ve also seen the Charlo brothers fight at Barclays Center in 2017 and become stars.

“It’s been a great year full of memorable moments and I couldn’t think of a better way to end the year than with Deontay on Saturday night. When Deontay defended his title at Barclays Center last year, it was the first heavyweight title fight in the borough of Brooklyn in 115 years and we’re excited to have him back.”

Selina Barrios Spooks Her Opponent, Zarina Tsoloyeva Backs Out of Fight

RAYNE, LA (November 2, 2017) – Two days after Halloween, unbeaten female sensation, lightweight Selina “Aztec Queen” Barrios (2-0, 1 KO), has spooked her opponent, Zarina Tsoloyeva (Pro Debut) from Zhaksy, Kazakhstan, as she backed out of their scheduled 4-round bout, set to take place today at The Rayne Civic Center in Louisiana. Tsoloyeva refused to step on the scale at yesterdays weigh-in.

Selina Barrios is one of the most avoided female fighters in the United States and now Kazakhstan. Ebony Jones from Alabama, Alpha Patricia Lopez from Mexico, and now Zarina Tsoloyeva from Kazakhstan, all signed to fight Selina but backed out to fight her at the last minute. Jones and Lopez were no shows, while Tsoloyeva who is from the distant land of Kazakhstan, showed up to the weigh-in, but declined to step on the scale.

“I was willing to fight Zarina Tsoloyeva, the decorated amateur from Kazakhstan, but she pulled out at the last minute, like my last two opponents.” said Selina Barrios from San Antonio. “It’s been very difficult getting opponents to fight me. I’ve always said, I don’t care who they put in front of me, I’ll fight anyone. I have that much confidence in my skills. I have no choice but to move on, but I’m respectfully sending a message to everyone in the lightweight and super-lightweight divisions, I’m not going anywhere, eventually you will all have to fight me.”

Nothing will derail Selina as she stays positive and continues to work hard, looking for that opportunity to challenge the best the lightweight and super-lightweight divisions has to offer. Selina’s handlers must now move her to six and eight round bouts right away, to chip away and get to a championship fight as she gains more ring experience as a professional.

“Looking at all the top lightweights and super-lightweights, I predict Selina will fight for a world championship before her tenth fight,” said advisor Kerry Daigle. “Possibly by fight number seven or eight. We’re going to move her into six and eight rounders moving forward. I’m already in talks with the sanctioning bodies to get her ranked.”

“If no one wants to fight me, then I’m calling out all the name fighters in the division,” Selina Barrios continued. “Amanda Serrano, Mikaela Mayer, Jessica McCaskill and of course, Katie Taylor, I’m willing to fight you guys anytime, anywhere. Like I said, at some point, you will all have to fight me.”

Dmitry Bivol International Media Conference Call Transcript

Vadim Kornilov – Manager of Dmitry Bivol: It’s a pleasure to get in touch with everybody one last time before the fight. I just flew in and met with the team and it’s a pleasure to talk to everybody and we’re looking forward to a great event. This will be the first world title defense for Dmitry. It is a pleasure working with Main Events, HBO, Matchroom Boxing and everybody. Thank you very much.

Gennadii Mashyanov – Trainer of Dmitry Bivol:As always there has been a full-on training camp for us. Dmitry is ready for this fight just like any other fight before. The opponent is a serious opponent, an experienced opponent. It does not matter whether he’s lower or higher in the ratings. This fight is as important as any other fight and we’re ready for the for the fight this Saturday.

Dmitry Bivol – WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion: Hello. I’m happy that I will fight in three days. I hope I will be winner. I had a great camp. I have a great two camps. First camp we had on mountain in Kyrgyzstan. The second in Los Angeles. I’m ready to fight and I can’t wait for that moment.

Question: The light-heavyweight division seemingly is kind of wide open. Andre Ward retired. Sergey Kovalev, his fight is coming up but he has lost two fights in a row. Adonis Stevenson is a champion but he’s 40 years old now. Do you see yourself as the next star and the next man to beat in this weight class? And if so, why?

DB: Yes. Definitely, we think that. Now being a WBA World Champion I think this definitely stands for me being part of the game in the light heavyweight division. There’s a lot going on as you said but my goal right now is to perform well on TV and give everybody the show that they wanna see. I see a lot of opportunities that I can undertake in the division in the near future.

Question:You’re fighting Broadhurst who is a totally unknown name to at least the American fans. You’re not that well known but you were on the pay per view card with Ward and Kovalev, you were on ShoBox, so maybe some people are familiar with you but a lot of people are going to be seeing you for the very first time against an opponent that they don’t know either, what do you want them to see from you? When they turn off the TV, what are they thinking about the Dmitry Bivol?

DB: My goal for people that are gonna see for the first time is that they see and enjoy the beauty of boxing. I will show them boxing at its highest level and make people believe.Once they see the fight, I want people to believe the fact that this guy, can be a future star.

Question: Dmitry, you had the interim title for a little bit and you now have the WBA full title but you weren’t able to win it against a reigning champion, in other words, Andre retired. Badou Jack, you were his mandatory challenger but he decided to vacate the title. Are you at all disappointed that you were not able to get your belt the way most fighters like to do which is by beating another champion or the champion to get it?

DB: I was ready to fight against Badou Jack and against Nathan Cleverly and now I am still ready to fight against Badou Jack and Cleverly. And what about Ward? I respect him because he’s a great master. I would like to fight with him. I’m ready to fight him.

Question:Vadim, can you give your perspective on where you believe that your fighter fits in this weight class?

VK: He’s a champion now. You did mention an important factor right now about being moved up to champion andbeing basically upgraded from the interim championship but just to clarify Dmitry could’ve fought whoever we had to fight. The only reason we actually wanted to fight for the vacant title was we’re ready to fight Barrera. This date, as far as I understand, was not close enough for Barrera to prepare for, and it was just not something that we could do. We were not aware that Badou Jack was not going to take the fight. We kind of thought he might not, but then that wasn’t a fact. I think Dmitry is definitely a world champion. He’s one of the top guys in the division. This fight is gonna take him a step closer to proving that. And we’re hoping that we can unify next year against any of the guys that you mentioned or any other guys that are in the division.

Question:I was just hoping you could talk about the possibility, if you win on Saturday and Barrera wins his fight later this month, about the possibility of fighting him next?Do you think that will happen? And how eager are you for that to happen?

DB: Now I think about only in November 4. Ask me about that after fight. But I know WBA said the winner of fight on November 4 will be make a mandatory defense. Yes, I’m ready. I will ready if I will be winner. That is what I hope.

VK:Of course, we are interested in the Barrera fight and you know as I just mentioned just a second earlier if Barrera is gonna be the mandatory for Bivol after this fight and after Barrera’s fight. If that’s gonna happen, then that’s definitely something we’re definitely interested in doing that next.

Question: How about the other champions I guess will be determinedafter Kovalev fights Shabranskyy and then of course Stevenson has the other title. Do you think, Vadim, that it will be difficult to get people to fight Dmitry just because he’s a dangerous guy and at this moment it is kind of like a lower reward-high risk type of fight?

VK: After Dmitry performed on ShoBox against [Sammy] Clarkson and on HBO pay per view against [Cedric] Agnew, people saw what he did to those opponents, it’s already difficult to get Dmitry an opponent. It’s already difficult to get people to fight him, it’s been that way. We don’t wanna run ahead of ourselves. We’ve got a big event on November 4th, a big fight and a serious opponent. Dmitry has to take care of business first, but I think that if Dmitry keeps on fighting the way he’s been fighting and performing in that manner, I think that people are gonna get more and more excited and I think that the fights that need to happen will happen. It will not be easy, but I think we’ll be able to make it happen with the team that we have right now.

Question: Dmitry what do you think of Broadhurst? Most of us are not all that familiar with him. What do you think of his skills and what kind of fight does he expect it to be on Saturday?

DB: I saw his fights. He moves good.He can move back. He can pressure. He can good to body punch. I think he will be moved back and I hope it will be good fight. Thank you.

Question: Dmitry, wereyou surprised that Badou Jack vacated the WBA title instead of facing you?

VK:Of course, I was surprised. I thought there was gonna be a way to make the fight happen because a fighter goes for a world title, all of his career and once you get the title that’s the big achievement. Why would you wanna give that up? I couldn’t understand why. Why get the title to give it up before the first defense?

Question: Dmitry do you ever foresee fighting Badou Jack in the near future?

DB: I can’t see it but I hope I will fight with him.

Question:Dmitry, with Andre Ward retiring, who doyou consider the best light heavyweight in the world?

DB: I don’t see that somebody’s taken that position. I think that position is vacant right now and- and there’s gonna be one to be determined.

Bivol vs. Broadhurst is a 12-round bout for the WBA Light Heavyweight Title at Casino de Monte Carlo in Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo and televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5:45 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT), coupled with a primetime evening replay at 9:45 p.m. (ET/PT).

BOXING’S CINDERELLA MAN JEFF “THE HORNET” HORN TO MAKE HIS FIRST WORLD TITLE DEFENSE, AGAINST TOP-10 CONTENDER GARY “HELLRAISER” CORCORAN

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA (November 2, 2017) — Boxing’s Cinderella Man and Brisbane, Australia’s favorite son, Jeff “The Hornet” Horn, returns to the ring in the first defense of the world title he won off the legendary Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. Horn (17-0-1, 11 KOs) will be risking his newly-minted World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown against Top-10 contender Gary “Hellraiser” Corcoran (17-1, 7 KOs), of London. It will be the Brit’s first fight outside the United Kingdom. The Horn vs. Corcoran world welterweight championship fight will take place on Wednesday, December 13 at the Brisbane Convention Centre and will be televised live and exclusively at 6:30 a.m. EST on ESPN and ESPN Deportes .

“Jeff Horn not only produced the upset of the year in boxing, he also authored the story of the year, defeating Manny Pacquiao, under enormous pressure, in front of a record hometown crowd of over 51,000 fans,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, who witnessed the fight from a ringside seat. “Jeff wasn’t just poised, he was prepared and powerful. Now Jeff faces his first test as world champion, against Corcoran, and it should be a helluva battle considering both men love to fight coming forward.”

“With Horn vs. Corcoran, ESPN is thrilled to add another marquee Top Rank on ESPN match right after the historic Lomachenko vs. Rigondeaux bout on December 9th,” said ESPN’s executive vice president of programming and scheduling Burke Magnus. “Horn is a rising superstar in the world of boxing, and with the seminal ratings success of the Horn-Pacquiao fight coupled with his performance in the ring that day, he has a large and growing fan base.”

Horn, a former high school physical education teacher and 2012 Olympian, captured the world’s imagination when he upset the heavily favored Pacquiao, boxing’s only eight-division world champion, winning a gritty unanimous decision in front of over 51,000 fans at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on July 1. Horn, a 12-to-1 underdog, didn’t let the moment or Pacquiao intimidate him. He pressured the defending champion and backed him up throughout the 12 grueling and exciting rounds. In addition to becoming a world champion Horn also became the toast of two continents.

ESPN’s live telecast of the July 1 Pacquiao vs. Horn world championship event (10 p.m. to 1 a.m. ET) averaged a 1.6 household rating and 2,812,000 viewers, making it the highest-rated and most-watched boxing telecast on cable TV since 2006 and ESPN’s highest-rated boxing telecast since 1995. “The Battle of Brisbane” was also the highest-rated boxing telecast on ESPN’s networks since 1995.

The WBO World Welterweight Championship main event between Pacquiao (59-7-2, 38 KOs) and Horn (midnight to 1 a.m. ET) peaked during the final half hour of their fight with 4.4 million viewers across both networks.

MCDONNELL: I’LL BE A CLEAR WINNER IN MONTE-CARLO…

Jamie McDonnell and Liborio Solis return to Monte-Carlo to rematch for the WBA World Bantamweight title on Saturday night live on Sky Sports from the prestigious Salle Médecin of the Casino de Monte-Carlo, and McDonnell has vowed to leave no doubt in the victory this time, while Solis is gunning for revenge.

McDonnell defeated Solis in November by scores of 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113, cards that prompted Solis’ team to appeal the result and the WBA to order a rematch.

McDonnell was disappointed by some that thought the challenger had actually won the fight and the unbeaten Doncaster ace has been working hard over the last year to make sure that the rematch is a clear-cut win as he targets one last huge fight at Bantamweight before stepping up to Super-Bantamweight.

“I thought I boxed well against him,” said McDonnell. “I knew it would be a tough fight but not as hard as it ended up being, I had to dig in a bit more but I was in control.

“I heard a lot of comments about it being tight and I was disappointed in them, I felt I ran the fight, there were tough spells and he caught me with some right hands and had good work rate, but I dealt with him and never felt in danger and he didn’t hurt me. I thought I won be three or four rounds.

“I also know that I fought the wrong fight. I was sat on the ropes too much and I needed to be busier. I won’t be taking any chances. I want to go in there, look good and get the job done. A stoppage would be great.

“People can see it differently but I believe I cruised through it, then I came out and some people thought he nicked it. That gets you down but people are allowed their opinions – this time there will be no doubt about me being the winner.

“I’ve been absolutely flying in this training camp and I don’t think I’ve ever been on track with the weight as good as I have been.

“This will be the sixth defence and after I win I want to look for bigger things. Paul Butler is lined up for the winner and that could be a big fight, but Ryan Burnett is the WBA and IBF champion and that would be great and I could look to move up in weight.

“I’m big for Bantamweight and I’ve been saying for a while that I would move up, I’m staying here for one big fight before moving up and I do think that Super-Bantamweight would really suit me. I want to leave Bantamweight as the best but maybe I will need to look to make that step up if the fight I need doesn’t come. I’ve been at this weight for a long time and it’s hard.”

For the Venezuelan, Saturday night is the chance to gain revenge. Solis believes he did enough on the night to justify a victory in his favour and doesn’t think that ring rust will be an issue as both men find themselves in the same situation.

“It was annoying that the rematch didn’t happen quickly,” said Solis. “But as much as the year out may have affected me it will have affected him as well so there is no advantage there.

“He may have been trying to avoid the rematch because he knows it was a robbery. He himself was surprised when they read out the verdict. I don’t know why he’s been avoiding me because if it were me I would have been looking for a rematch quickly just for personal honour. But he doesn’t have anywhere to run to now.”

“The English fans and the press said that I won, I got messages from them and, he looked totally surprised as did his corner when they read out the verdict.

“I’m fired up to show that he didn’t beat me. I’m not assuming anything though, anyone can have a bad night and maybe that was his bad night. But now he has to show everyone that it was a bad night for him.”

McDonnell and Solis clash on a stacked bill in Monte-Carlo topped by a pair of World title battles with Russian destroyer Dmitry Bivol making the first defence of his WBA Light-Heavyweight strap against Australian Trent Broadhurst while Scott Quigg and Oleg Yefimovych meet in an eliminator for the WBA World Featherweight title and Dereck Chisora challenges Agit Kabayel for the German’s European Heavyweight title.

WILLIAMS: “WHAT SMITH RANTS PUBLICALLY AND WHAT HE KNOWS IN HIS MIND ARE TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS!”

Clydach Vale clouter Liam Williams insists bitter rival Liam Smith is suffering from delusion as they embark on their spicy looking ‘No Ifs, No Buts’ rematch at Newcastle’s Metro Arena on Saturday week, broadcast live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

The pair renews bitter acquaintance in a WBO Super-Welter eliminator seven months after a spiteful initial encounter in which the wounded Welsh warmonger was withdrawn after nine on medical advice, whilst ahead on all three scorecards.

‘Smith has been very dismissive of me since the last fight but I guarantee I earned his respect. What he rants publically and what he knows in his mind are two completely different things,’ claims the reigning British champion who has lost just once in 18.

‘I think I’ve got to him. Going in, I don’t think he could see himself getting beaten and he’s become utterly deluded. Now he knows the level of skill I bring. He knows the difference in class between us that I displayed for everyone to see in our first fight.

‘I’m one of the small percentage of fighters who doesn’t feel insecure about praising an opponent and Smith deserves credit for what he’s achieved in the sport.

‘He’s a class operator but he brought nothing that we didn’t expect. Sure, he was coming on strong at the end but we’d prepared for that.

‘Besides, it was only after the head clash in the ninth that I began to fall apart. Earlier in the round, I was doing okay. Smith is the worst kind of bully and pounced on my vulnerability.’

The Anglo-Welsh antagonists are unlikely to ever share Christmas cards and, one senses, their mutual dislike extends beyond the competitive one-upmanship of the sporting arena.

But while the rumbler from the Rhondda has history as a hothead, he insists he shall maintain a calm countenance in the presence of serial smack talker Smith when the pair finally come face-to-face again in fight week.

‘Everyone knows that he’s the fiery one of the brothers but, this time, there’ll be no bad lip or aggression from me at the press conference or weigh-in. That’s all in my past,’ he says.

‘In recent gym spars, there’s been a few people who’ve tried to drag me into conflict situations but I’ve retained focus, remained professional. That might not have been the case 12 months back. I’ve matured. I know I’m a role model to some and I’ve kids myself. I don’t want to come across as a bad guy because I’m not.

‘I believe I retained my dignity and came out of the first fight with a lot of respect as a person. Smith showed his true colours and has lost a lot of neutral fans because of that.’

Elsewhere on a huge evening of boxing in Newcastle Country Durham’s Thomas Patrick Ward (20-0) will defend his British Super-Bantamweight Championship against Brimingham’s Sean Davis (13-1-0)

Rising Guisborough Super-Lightweight star Josh Leather (12-0) makes the first defence of his IBF European title against Sunderland rival Glenn Foot (21-2).

Ricky Hatton-trained Heavyweight Nathan Gorman (10-0) takes on Mohammed Soltby (13-0) for the Vacant WBC International Heavyweight Championship.

Explosive Super-Middleweight Mark Heffron (Oldham, 16-0) another of Ricky Hatton’s excellent young stable of fighters, takes on former Tommy Langford and Jamie Cox opponent Lewis Taylor (19-4-1); undefeated Jeff Saunders (11-0) of Sedgefield takes on undefeated Liverpudlian Steven Lewis (14-0)

In addition, local prospects Troy Williamson (Darlington, 3-0) Kalam Leather (Guisborough, 2-0) Joe Maphosa (Thornaby, 1-0) and Michael Watson (Sedgefield, Pro debut) will all appear on the bill.

GALLAGHER TO WILLIAMS: “KARMA IS A B*TCH”

Liam Smith’s trainer Joe Gallagher has told rival opponent Liam Williams, “Karma is a b*tch.”

The two Liams go to war again at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena on November 11 in a final eliminator for the WBO super-welterweight title, currently held by Miguel Cotto.

When the feuding fighters met in an ‘interim’ world title clash seven months ago, Smith won when a clash of heads forced badly cut Williams to be pulled out by trainer Gary Lockett after nine rounds.

Smith also suffered an X-rated cut when he was butted in round three and Gallagher insists it’s a case of what goes around comes around for the Welshman.

Williams claimed earlier this week that Smith should have been disqualified for the clash that ended the fight in Manchester.

Gallagher fired back: “Liam Smith went through everything in the first fight — cut, elbows, head butts. But he stuck in there even though he was behind. He had belief he could turn it around and did.

“Not enough credit was given to the solid, old school performance he gave. It was all negativity.

“Look at Liam Williams putting the head in on Liam Smith and that (the cut) wasn’t the first time in the fight. He did it all the time.

“He did it years ago with Ronnie Heffron. He did it with Gary Corcoran and karma is a bit of a bitch.

“You can’t go around elbowing and butting people all the time and think you can get away with it.”

Gallagher has admiration for the Welshman’s trainer Gary Lockett, but believes the British champion will be reluctant to have another war with his Liverpool enemy.

Gallagher added: “It was a real gritty performance from Liam Smith. They have had their chance to beat him and they are not going to beat him with pitter-patter stuff running around the ring.

“I know they talk about Liam Williams standing and having a fight, but he isn’t going to do that. He is going to run and it will backfire.

“Judges won’t score for him when he tries to nick a fight like that. They score for aggression when Liam Smith tries to make the fight.

“Liam Williams isn’t going to stand and have it with Liam Smith. He is going to box on the back foot and try to make it do a Hughie Fury v Joe Parker type of fight – not win it, but nick it.

“I have huge respects for Gary Lockett. He is good coach and knows his stuff. I am just giving my opinion when I’m asked what Liam Williams is going to do in Newcastle.”

Deontay Wilder vs. Bermane Stiverne Media Workout Quotes

BROOKLYN (November 1, 2017) – WBC Heavyweight World Champion Deontay Wilder and former world champion Bermane Stiverne showed off their power and skills at the media workout Wednesday in Brooklyn before they meet in the main event of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING Saturday, November 4 from Barclays Center, the home of BROOKLYN BOXING™.

Joining the televised fighters at Gleason’s Gym on Wednesday were five-time world champion Amanda Serrano, who returns to the ring in undercard action Saturday. Also in attendance were unbeaten prospects Chris Colbert and Titus Williams, who meet in an eight-round featherweight attraction.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday:

DEONTAY WILDER

“Stiverne is going to see me come to Barclays Center and finish the job on Saturday. He survived the first time. He’s the only one to survive on their feet. This is something that I’ve come back to. I will finish the job this time.

“Stiverne had a lot of excuses after the last fight. Nobody wants to hear excuses from the loser. He knows what happened. I beat him 12 rounds in a row. I think this fight will be even easier for me. He hasn’t improved since we last fought, but I’m going to show him a whole new Deontay Wilder. This is the end of Bermane Stiverne’s career right here.

“As soon as Anthony Joshua accepts the fight, then I’ll be there. They’re trying to distract people because they know that I’m a danger to anybody’s career. All their excuses have nothing to do with the sport of boxing. The only thing people care about is the best fighting the best, and that’s what I’m trying to do.

“I thought the first Stiverne fight should have been stopped. He had knots all over his faced and was concussed. I’m not trying to leave any doubt this time around.

“This is my mandatory opponent. I must face him and that’s just what it is. I’ve called out every name in the sport. All the top guys have ducked me, so I just have to take care of the people that are able to get in the ring.”

BERMANE STIVERNE

“I have no fear heading into this fight. It’s not that I didn’t see the openings in the last fight, I just couldn’t physically perform how I needed to.

“I had health concerns last fight but now I’ve turned the chapter on that and I’m focused on Saturday night. This is going to be a completely different fight this time around

“I’m hungry to win. I’m always motivated and excited about getting into the ring, but obviously this is the biggest chance I’m going to have.

“The stage is set and my destiny is in front of me. I always said I was going to be the first person to beat him, and that is going to come together on Saturday.

“Everything has been perfect in camp. Deontay is going to be in for a real rude awakening on Saturday. I’m going to let my fists do the talking for me.”

SHAWN PORTER

“This is a great style matchup. I think that’s why this fight was made. We are two guys that are going to go in there and go 12 hard rounds. My job is to get in there and outbox him and get him out of there.

“I don’t think I need to make any adjustments because I can come forward, move around the ring, create angles – I think Adrian isn’t exactly ready for that. My foot movement and of course my hand speed will be the difference.

“This is the second eliminator for me. It is about doing it again. I have to get the job done and get that fight with Keith Thurman.

“I want to make it very clear that I’m the better boxer. I want it to be clear that I can do to Adrian Granados what no one else has been able to do – put him on his butt.

“On all of our gear we wrote #VegasStrong. We want to send a message to everyone in Vegas that I don’t just live there, but it is part of my heart now. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the tragedy and now we are over a month past that. I am fighting for the people of Vegas.”

ADRIAN GRANADOS

“It means a lot to me to be in this fight on this stage. I definitely need to win and bounce back from my loss to Broner and show that I have a lot more to give to this sport. I’m far from down and out, I just showed up to the party and I’m ready to leave my mark.

“I think 147 is a weight that I’ll be good at. I’ve fought here and at 140-pounds so I’m comfortable either way. This was just an opportunity that I couldn’t pass up.

“I never fight the same way. This is a fight and it’s going to have everything that comes with that. I’m going to be prepared for what Shawn Porter brings to the ring. This fight kind of came out of nowhere but it was easy for me to agree to.

“This is a great opportunity to prove that I’m able to fight with anyone in this sport. I can compete on the highest level and I’m going to show everyone that I’m a force on fight night.”

SERGEY LIPINETS

“I’m very happy right now. I’m very excited to fight for a title, but I know how to contain my emotions and direct them in a positive way. When I get in the ring, I’m going to make everyone else happy with my performance.

“I had great sparring partners for this camp and I’ve worked hard with Buddy McGirt to get in the best shape possible. My team did a great job getting me to this point so I couldn’t be happier.

“At this level, there are no bad fighters. Anyone who walks in the ring and stands in their across from me should be respected.

“My preparation for this fight has been at the same level as it was for all of my other fights. I always train like the title is on the line. I always bring my best and I know that Kondo will do. He’s trying to take advantage of this opportunity too.

“I was here in March fighting on the Keith Thurman vs. Danny Garcia undercard and I knew that one day I would be fighting for the title in that same arena. I love New York and I love the boxing fans here. This is just a great event and I hope everyone sees my performance.”

AKAHIRO KONDO

“I had a really strong training camp. I feel ready to fight. I’m ready to go today If I had to. Everything in camp went as well as I could have hoped.

“I know that Lipinets is a hard puncher and a very good overall fighter. I’m going to do my best to avoid the big shots and use my skills.

“I want to put on a performance that will guarantee that people will remember my name. I think it’s going to be a really good fight and make me more well-known throughout the world. I’m not just doing this for myself, but for everybody back home.

“I’m so grateful and excited to have the opportunity to be on this card. I know how fortunate I am to be in this position and I’m ready to make the most of it.”

AMANDA SERRANO

“Every fight is huge for me to show that I’m still winning and continuing to get better. I love fighting at Barclays Center on big shows like this one. It’s always fun to fight in front of your fans and hopefully as I gain recognition I can bring bigger and better things to women’s boxing.

“I’m always looking for the next big challenge. Eventually I would like to break my own record and look to grab a title in a sixth weight class. I’m ready to take on the best fighters and the biggest challenges.

“You can’t underestimate anyone in this sport, so we trained very hard leading up to this one. She’s coming in here to knock my head off. This camp was actually a little different because I didn’t have to diet for this fight. I could actually eat at this weight and I’m feeling really strong.

“I’m facing a tough girl who’s only been stopped twice, so my goal is to make this one quick. The faster the fight the easier for me and it gives the fans something to get excited about.”

CHRIS COLBERT

“I’m different from a lot of other up-and-coming fighters in this business. I’m willing to take risks. In this boxing game it’s either win or lose, and I’m in it to win.

“I’m familiar with Titus as a fighter and I know that I have what it takes to beat him. That’s the name of the game and that’s the goal on Saturday.

“Training camp was tremendous. This was the longest camp that I’ve ever had. We’ve gone strong for seven weeks straight. No days off, just hard work every day.

“I feel 100 percent healthy right now. Everything happens for a reason. That minor setback that I had, it’s leading to a major comeback starting on Saturday night.

“I love to fight in my city. It’s always great to have my city behind me. Once I get in the ring though, it’s just another day for me. I’m going to show off my skills. I’m going to bring everything I need to get this win.”

TITUS WILLIAMS

“Taking on a fight like this proves that I’m fearless. I’m willing to take on all the challenges in this sport. I’m not looking to pad my record with easy wins. When there is a challenge put in front of me, I’m ready willing and able to face it.

“I’m in the best shape of my life right now. I’ve never felt this good heading into a fight. Mentally and physically I’m in a really good place and ready to go.

“Colbert has speed, he’s crafty and he’s slick. He’s going to come to fight and he’s going to come to win. But I’m going to break his will.

“All of those attributes that he has, I have the same ones. But I have the difference maker. In the professional game, that difference maker is power.

“I’m facing a guy I came up with during the amateurs and went on national trips with. None of that really matters to me when the bell rings. I have to go in there and do my job, and that’s to win.”

LAS VEGAS – (November 1, 2017) – Premier Boxing Champions swings through the month on November with a slate of four shows on three separate networks that will include entertainment for every kind of boxing fan.

“The month of November demonstrates the wide variety of matches that Premier Boxing Champions is proud to present,” said Tim Smith, Vice President of Communications for Haymon Boxing.

“You have exciting heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder defending his title; top-rated contender Sergey Lipinets battling for a world title; former champions like Shawn Porter, Anthony Dirrell, and Devon Alexander aiming to get into title fights; contenders like Julian Williams fighting for a second title shot and unbeaten prospects like Earl Newman and Miguel Cruz looking to rise up the ranks. So there is truly something for everyone.”

The month kicks off with undefeated heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder defending his title against top-ranked contender Bermane Stiverne at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on SHOWTIME on Nov. 4 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. In the co-main event former welterweight champion Shawn Porter will take on Adrian Granados, and Sergey Lipinets battles Akihiro Kondo for the 140-pound championship. Wilder took away the title from Stiverne (25-2-1, KOs) with a unanimous decision when the two met in 2015. Stiverne is the only man to go the distance against Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs).

Former 168-pound champion Anthony Dirrell (30-1-1, 24 KOs) will battle Denis Douglin (20-5, 13 KOs) in a special edition of TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes from Dort Federal Credit Union Center in his hometown of Flint, Michigan on Friday, Nov. 17 at 10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT. Dirrell, 32, will be fighting at home for just the third time in his career and wants to regain the title that he lost to Badou Jack in 2015. In the co-feature Domonique Dolton (19-1-1, 10 KOs) enters the ring for an eight-round welterweight fight.

The next night former 154-pound world champion Ishe Smith (29-8, 12 KOs) will take on Julian Williams (23-1-1, 15 KOs) in a 10-round super welterweight showdown from the Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas on Bounce Saturday, Nov. 18 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Smith, who is the first Las Vegas-born boxer to win a world title, will be defending his home turf against Williams and is hoping to move into position to fight for another title since his most recent title challenge of Erislandy Lara in 2014. Williams is on the comeback trail after losing via TKO to Jermall Charlo in his first world championship match last December. The co-main event features unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Earl Newman taking on Lionell Thompson in a 10-round light heavyweight bout.

Former welterweight champion Devon Alexander (26-4, 14 KOs) will battle rugged contender Walter Castillo (26-4-1, 19 KOs) on TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes from The Coliseum in St. Petersburg, Florida on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. In the co-main event, unbeaten Miguel Cruz (16-0, 11 KOs) will take on David Grayton (15-1-1, 11 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight match.

The 30-year-old Alexander will end a two-year layoff due to health issues when he steps in against Castillo. Alexander, of St. Louis, Missouri, won the 147-pound world championship with a unanimous decision victory over Randall Bailey in 2012. He lost the title via unanimous decision against Shawn Porter the next year. Alexander, a southpaw, was a unified champion at 140-pounds and owns victories over Marcos Maidana, Lucas Matthysse and Jesus Soto Karass. Castillo, 29, will be ending a 16-month layoff and moving up to 147 pounds for the first time to take on Alexander. Castillo lost by TKO to Sergey Lipinets in a 140-pound clash in his last fight.

“This is something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’ve thought about it for a while but the task is still at hand. I still have to take care of my opponent. I’m prepared mentally and physically to go to war.

“I feel great physically. There’s still some work to be done, but if there was a fight tomorrow, I’d be ready. It’s going to be great to get back into the ring on fight night after a long layoff.

“The focus is on sticking to the game plan. You never deviate from that. It’s all about doing what my coaches are telling me to. You can give the fans a great show and stay disciplined boxing at the same time.

Fighter Spotlight: Dmitry Bivol The Hot Young Prospect Opens Up About Childhood and Family

Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo: WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion Dmitry Bivol (11-0, 9 KOs) is slated to defend his title against Trent Broadhurst (20-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday in Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo and live on HBO Boxing After Dark® at 5:45 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT). Bivol was elevated from Interim Champion to Regular Champion by the WBA after former WBA Super World Champion Andre Ward retired and former WBA Regular Champion Badou Jack vacated. This will be Bivol’s first voluntary defense of the belt and his fourth fight this year. He became the interim champion when he dethroned Felix Valera, and handed the Dominican boxer his only defeat, in May 2016.

Despite his stellar record and meteoric rise, with only two professional fights on US soil, most American fans know very little about the 26-year-old light heavyweight from St. Petersburg, Russia. He was born in Tokmak, Kyrgyzstan but moved to St. Petersburg when he was 11 years old. He started boxing at the age of six after watching Mike Tyson fight, but Tyson is not his favorite fighter. He said, “My favorite boxer is Sugar Ray Leonard. He’s great. Of course, Muhammed Ali is biggest star. He is very famous. I love to watch fights with Sugar Ray Leonard before my fights. I learn from his fights. I also like to watch Gennady Golovkin, Vasyl Lomachenko, Terence Crawford and Manny Pacquaio, but my favorite is Sugar Ray Leonard.”

Bivol trains in Southern California with his trainer, Gennadii Mashyanov, while his family remains back home in Russia. It is difficult for Dmitry to be so far away from his wife and two small children. He explained, “I have two baby sons. My older son is 3 years old and my younger son is eight months old. My family is home in Russia and it is hard to know how fast your babies are growing and you can’t be there to see it. Every day I call to them and sometimes my older son calls to me when I am asleep because of the time difference.”

When asked what he wanted his fans to know about him, Dmitry said, “I want the fans to know that, since I was a child, boxing is my life. I want the fans to know I am always trying to do my best. I am doing my best in the ring. I don’t like to speak bad about my opponents; I just want my fans to like my boxing style and appreciate my work. I am trying to do everything for the fans.”

Bivol vs. Broadhurst is a 12-round bout for the WBO Light Heavyweight Title at Casino de Monte Carlo in Salle Medecin, Monte Carlo and televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® on Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5:45 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT), coupled with a primetime evening replay at 9:45 p.m. (ET/PT).

FIELDING AND SKOGLUND CLASH ON BELLEW-HAYE BILL

Rocky Fielding and Erik Skoglund clash for the WBC Silver Super-Middleweight title at The O2 in London on Sunday December 17, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Fielding blasted David Brophy away inside a round to add the Commonwealth title to his British strap in Liverpool in September, and at the same venue two weeks earlier, Skoglund gave Callum Smith the toughest test of his career when they clashed in the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Super Series – and both men see the fight as the gateway to World title shots in 2018.

“I thought that I was going to be getting a European level fight next but I this is bigger than that and past that level,” said Fielding.

“Skoglund has just come out of the Super Series and they are all classed as World class fighters, so I am up against a World class operator and whoever wins can go onto a World title next.

“He boxed well against Callum. He’s got a good jab and his movement was good. People had doubts about the weight for him dropping down from Light-Heavyweight but it didn’t look a problem. He’s got a good boxing brain and I know that this is going to be a really tough fight.

“I trained so hard for the Brophy fight and everything paid off. It only went one round but we train for 12 hard rounds, so I’m still feeling fresh and I know that I will be at 100 per cent for this fight. It was a short fight with Brophy but the shots I hit him with were World class shots. When I am feeling at my best I can clip anyone and do damage to anyone, including Skoglund.

“I had nerves for the Brophy fight and that’s the first time since fighting Brian Vera that I’ve felt that. I looked back at my record the other day and all my best performances have come when I’ve felt nervous because it’s a big fight.

“This is the biggest fight of my career now and I know that I’m going to be nervous fighting in a huge fight on a massive bill at The O2 – that fear factor will be back and that will pay off in a tough fight but one I know I am capable of winning.”

“I’m really looking forward to get back in the ring and fighting for the WBC silver belt is a great opportunity to get in position for a world title,” said Skoglund.

“Sadly I fell short in a close fight in the World Boxing Super Series tournament. As I think I should have gone further in that tournament my goal is to become World champion as the tournament moves on, and later on fight the winner. I hope that can lead to a rematch with Callum Smith.

“Fielding is a good opponent who can really punch. I will need to stay sharp and focused all the time, but as long as I can do that, I can’t see him beating me. Everyone has a punchers chance, and that’s the only chance I give Fielding.”

“This is a great fight and a real 50-50 that will put the winner in light for a shot at the World title,” said Fielding’s promoter Eddie Hearn. “Rocky is coming off a brutal first round win against Brophy and Erik gained plenty of fans in a very competitive match up with Callum Smith earlier this year. I’m looking forward to seeing these two clash on a huge night of boxing.”

“It’s great to be working with Matchroom on such a World-class fight,” said Skoglund’s promoter Kalle Sauerland. “Both fighters are coming into the fight a step away from a World title challenge and with the WBC Silver belt at stake emphasizes the importance of the fight even more.”

Fiedling and Skoglund clash on the undercard of the rematch between Heavyweight rivals Tony Bellew and David Haye.

Limited tickets remain on general sale from www.theO2.co.uk and on 0844 856 0202 priced £60, £80, £100, £150, £200, £300 and £500.

WILLIAMS: “THAT BUTT WAS NO ACCIDENT AND SMITH SHOULD’VE BEEN DISQUALIFIED!”

Seven months on, Welsh warlord Liam Williams remains adamant that Liam Smith resorted to foul means when relieving him of his unbeaten record during their high grade and highly controversial interim WBO Super-Welter dust-up at Manchester Arena.

The 25 year old reigning British champion flew out of the starting blocks and was ahead on all three judges’ cards when that ‘Big Bang’ occurred late in round nine.

‘Heads had been bumping all night and you train to get your head into the right place so that, if and when that happens, you incur minimal damage,’ says the man from the Rhondda who conceded on his stool after 16 wins and a draw.

‘But I definitely felt the final butt was deliberate. Smith feinted with the jab to pave the way for his nut. It was no accident.

‘One million percent Smith should’ve been disqualified. I felt very let down by the referee (Terry O’Connor). I feel he robbed me of my unbeaten record and chance to become world champion. I can’t see how he possibly missed such a blatant butt.

‘From the offset, I thought I was on the back foot with the ref. Every time we came together, it was always me who he pushed away so, immediately, I was on the back foot.

‘Earlier in the fight, Gary (Lockett, his trainer/manager) had called him over to complain about Smith’s head but he just shook his head and told us to ‘Get on with it’?!’

Ahead of their salivating and no doubt spite filled rematch at Newcastle’s Metro Arena on Saturday week, Williams is quick to remind fight folk that the concluding ‘collision’ had nothing to do with the Scouser’s fists or supremacy as a boxer.

‘It was the decision of the doctor and Gary to withdraw me,’ he stresses.

‘When the cut happened, the blood streamed into my eye and my vision was one big blur. There were two cuts side by side on my eyelid with the tiniest bit of skin holding them together. If I’d taken a couple more blows on the injury my eyeball could’ve been exposed. I knew it was bad from the pain I was in. It took eight stitches and a lot of glue to patch me up.

‘I fully respect that decision but, look, I’m a fighter and 100% I’d have continued if allowed. Sometimes us fighters need saving from ourselves. I’m a young man with a family. You come out healthy and live to fight another day.

‘Smith’s got some front saying that he was cut earlier in the fight (round three) but continued whereas I ‘spewed it’ the moment I started bleeding. You can’t compare the cuts; totally different scale and location. It just shows how ignorant he is!’

‘If he wants to make the rematch nasty, we’ll make it nasty. This time I’ll do anything to win!’

Explosive Super-Middleweight Mark Heffron (Oldham, 16-0) another of Ricky Hatton’s excellent young stable of fighters, takes on former Tommy Langford and Jamie Cox opponent Lewis Taylor (19-4-1); undefeated Jeff Saunders (11-0) of Sedgefield takes on undefeated Liverpudlian Steven Lewis (14-0)

In addition, local prospects Troy Williamson (Darlington, 3-0) Kalam Leather (Guisborough, 2-0) Joe Maphosa (Thornaby, 1-0) and Michael Watson (Sedgefield, Pro debut) will all appear on the bill.

CHISORA: EURO GLORY LEADS ME TO MASSIVE FIGHTS

Dereck Chisora believes ripping the European Heavyweight title from Agit Kabayel on Saturday night will catapult him back into the World title mix as they clash in Monte-Carlo, live on Sky Sports.

‘Del Boy’ can become a two-time Euro king by taking the strap from the unbeaten German in his first defence, and the Londoner feels that will land him the mega-fights he wants – starting with a rematch with capital rival Dillian Whyte following their epic battle in December.

“I need to get this fight done and look good,” said Chisora. I haven’t had a big fight since the Whyte fight and I’ve been pushing for that rematch but it’s not happened and not looking likely any time soon.

“This came up and I think that it was meant to be for Dillian but he was too scared to fight this boy, so I took it.”

Whyte defeated Robert Helenius in Cardiff last weekend in an eliminator for the WBC title held by brash American Deontay Wilder, who defends his crown against Bermane Stiverne in Brooklyn this Saturday.

Chisora is handily ranked in the top ten in the WBC ratings and could be looking at a second World title shot in 2018 and would welcome all-comers in the biggest fights he can land.

“Dillian won at the weekend, I’m going to win, so let’s do it, there’s nothing stopping us,” said Chisora. “But you never know what is going to get in the way, this is boxing.

“I want to fight for a World title too. We don’t know why Joseph Parker is holding a World title. How is Wilder still a World champion? Anthony Joshua is doing well, he fights twice a year and puts on a great show. The other two guys are just lucky. They were there at the right time.

“Parker boxed for a World title without TV – that’s embarrassing and they didn’t sell any tickets. That tells you everything.

“My plans with Eddie include fighting in America, keeping fit and training hard and making the fights that I want to happen. Wilder fights Stiverne, AJ and Dillian have just boxed, Jarrell Miller fights next weekend – the Heavyweight game is bubbling up right now, it’s buzzing.

“It’s been a great year for boxing in Britain, and I think 2018 can be even better.”

Chisora and Kabayel clash on a stacked bill in Monte-Carlo topped by a pair of World title battles with Russian destroyer Dmitry Bivol making the first defence of his WBA Light-Heavyweight strap against Australian Trent Broadhurst while Jamie McDonnell and Liborio Solis return to Monte-Carlo for a rematch for McDonnell’s WBA Bantamweight crown and Scott Quigg and Oleg Yefimovych clash in an eliminator for the WBA World Featherweight title.

NOV. 2 EDITION OF GOLDEN BOY BOXING ON ESPN MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

TUCSON, Ariz. (Oct. 31, 2017) Jesus “Renuente” Soto Karass (28-12-4, 18 KOs) hosted a media workout today at the Pascua Yaqui Wellness Center in Tucson, Arizona ahead of his 10-round welterweight fight against Juan Carlos “Merengue” Abreu (19-3-1, 18 KOs) in the main event of the Nov. 2 edition of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN at Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona. Ryan “Kingry” Garcia (11-0, 10 KOs), who will compete in the co-main event in the first defense of his Junior NABF Super Featherweight title against Cesar Valenzuela (14-5-1, 5 KOs), also participated in today’s event. Cesar Diaz (6-0, 5 KOs), the bantamweight prospect who will return in a six-round fight, and Christopher Gonzalez, the 140-pound prospect who will make his professional debut, took part as well.

Below is what the fighters had to say ahead of their respective bouts on the Nov. 2 edition of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN:

JESUS “RENUENTE” SOTO KARASS, Welterweight Contender:
“I’m the kind of fighter who brings out the best of myself in every occasion, and this Thursday night will not be an exception. My fans are like my family. They know my strengths and weaknesses, and they know that I always get in the ring to give a good fight.”

“I haven’t really seen Abreu fight, only about one or two rounds, but I know he will come aggressively. He throws a lot of punches just as I do. Though he is younger, I have the experience. I don’t like to give predictions, but I just hope that we both leave the ring healthy and may the best man win.”

RYAN “KINGRY” GARCIA, Junior NABF Super Featherweight Champion
“I’m excited about defending my belt for the first time. But at the same time, it’s just like any other fight. It’s another step. I just need to get over this hurdle. I’ve heard that he [Valenzuela] said he was going to take me some rounds. But I’m extremely prepared. He can go ahead and try.”

“I’ve gotten a very warm welcome in Tucson, Ariz. A fan was waiting for me and even had a rose for my mom. Everyone has been treating me very well. I love the casino and the city. It’s a beautiful place, and it reminds me of my home in Victorville, Calif.”

CESAR DIAZ, Bantamweight Prospect:
“I feel really good. Everything has gone well. Since the start of training camp, I’ve felt great. When it comes to my style, I like to always move forward and attack. I don’t like to sit back and wait for opponents to come to me. This has been my style since the amateurs.”

“I don’t know much about my opponent [Melo]. I focus on my style, my training and on being in tip-top shape so I can be ready for anybody. I trained for and sparred with all kinds of styles, so I’m ready for anything he has to offer.”

CHRISTOPHER GONZALEZ, Super Lightweight Prospect:
“I’m very, very excited to make my professional debut. I’ve been telling all my family, friends and everyone in town to come watch me fight. There’s no place like my hometown. I love Tucson, and I’m happy to make my debut here. When it comes to my style, I like to box. Jabbing is my strength, along with my timing and speed.”

Dmitry Bivol: Light Heavyweight is the Division to Watch WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion to Make First Title Defense on HBO Boxing After Dark®

The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds and will be Bivol’s first title defense as WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion.

With an 81% knockout-to-win ratio (9 KOs in 11 wins) and newly crowned the WBA’s light heavyweight world champion, the 26-year-old Bivol rocketed to the top of the light heavyweight division in 2017. However, as Bivol explains, he did not go in looking for the knockout, “I never think about the knockout before the fight. I don’t think, ‘Oh I have to go knock this guy out.’ But when I get in the ring, of course, I want to do my best and I want to make my fans happy with a good fight. First, I think about how can I give him more punches and then I think about how I can avoid more punches.”

The winner of this championship bout will have a mandatory defense due next. The top-ranked contender is Sullivan Barrera, who is scheduled to fight Felix Valera on Saturday, November 25 as the co-feature on the Sergey Kovalev vs. Vyacheslav Shabranskyy World Championship Boxing telecast.

Bivol believes Barrera will win and the two will meet up in early 2018. He is eager to face Barrera and has watched his career closely: “I must do mandatory defense for WBA for next fight,” said Bivol. “Barrera is ranked second and I want the fight with the best guys in the WBA rankings, so I want to fight him next. I watched Barrera’s fights with Shabranskyy, Andre Ward and Joe Smith Jr. He is good boxer. He has good speed. Good Skills. Good moves. I want to fight with the best fighters.”

With all of this action in his division, the young champion sees light heavyweight as the division to watch. Bivol explained, “Pay attention to my division because now I think a lot of young stars are coming up. Watch the boxing in light heavyweight division and, of course, watch my fight.”

According to Bivol’s manager, Vadim Kornilov, “We are glad that Dmitry’s first defense of his world title will happen in Monaco and we are looking forward to a great event. We appreciate HBO giving us the opportunity to air this fight in the United States.”
(ET/PT).

“We’re very excited to start working with Jerobe, he’s a very talented and charismatic fighter that fans in America will become instant fans of when they see him fight,” said ERIC BENTLEY, COO of The Real Deal Boxing. “Following his November 11 bout, we’ll be making plans for his debut in the United States.”

Santana turned professional at the age of 21 following a very successful amateur campaign including capturing the bronze medal at the Youth National Championships at the age of 17 in addition to winning the silver medal at the Elite National Championships two years later.

Twice during his sixteen bout career, Santana has won the WBC Youth World Lightweight Title.

Santana is returning to the ring following the only loss of his career, a hard fought 12-round decision to Marvin Petit on May 18, 2017 in Paris, France for the vacant EBU-EU (European Union) Lightweight Title.

WBC RULING REGARDING LUIS NERY ISSUED BY WBC BOARD OF GOVERNORS

I. BACKGROUND
In October of 2016, Luis Nery enrolled in the WBC Clean Boxing Program’s (“CBP”) out-of-competition anti-doping testing by virtue of being rated in the top 15 in the bantamweight division of the WBC world ratings.

On August 22, 2017, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) reported to the WBC that Mr. Nery’s “A” sample collected on July 27, 2017 in Tijuana, Mexico, yielded adverse analytical findings for Zilpaterol (the “Finding”). [1] The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) includes Zilpaterol its list of banned substances, which list VADA uses as reference, thus making Zilpaterol banned under the WBC Clean Boxing Program in which Mr. Nery is enrolled. Mr. Nery did not request analysis of the corresponding “B” sample.

The WBC undertook an investigation of the circumstances surrounding the Finding pursuant to the governing WBC Rules & Regulations and WBC CBP Protocol. The WBC, through Mr. Nery’s promoter, Promociones Zanfer, requested that Mr. Nery provide a formal thorough written submission from including information, schedules, activities and materials related to the circumstances that resulted in the adverse finding. Mr. Nery provided a sworn statement representing to the WBC that he had ingested substantial amounts of beef and beef consommé daily as part of his dietary/training regime in Mexico during several weeks preceding the adverse finding which was from a sample taken in Tijuana where he based his training camp. Mr. Nery and his camp have emphatically denied taking any performance enhancing drugs or any banned substance.

The WBC also contacted WADA to obtain additional information about Zilpaterol and WADA never responded to the WBC’s inquiries.

II. WBC’S FINDINGS
Based on the information available to the WBC, the WBC finds as follows:

1. Luis Nery is enrolled in the WBC CBP by virtue of being rated among the top 15 boxers in the WBC Bantamweight world ratings.

2. The anti-doping test of sample collected in Tijuana, Mexico from Mr. Nery on July 27, 2017, yielded adverse analytical findings for Zilpaterol.

3. Zilpaterol is a banned substance under the WBC CPB by virtue of its inclusion in WADA’s List of Banned Substances which VADA uses as its reference.

4. Mr. Nery’s positive test took place as part of the out-of-competition portion of the WBC CBP, during the contract process for the Yamanaka vs. Nery fight, with out of competition and after the fight testing being in place.

5. To the best of the WBC’s knowledge, Mr. Nery has never tested positive for any banned substance in any tests he has undergone during his boxing career, and has tested negative in the WBC fights he has competed in. Mr. Nery is an undefeated boxer in 24 bouts, he is the former WBC Continental Americas and Silver champion and presently holds the WBC Bantamweight World Championship. Mr. Nery has been tested 4 times during his enrollment in the WBC CBP.

6. Mr. Nery was tested 3 times after producing the sample that resulted in the Finding and those additional tests have been negative, all three tests were taken in Japan.

7. The WBC received the following information and materials which constitute extenuating circumstances: (1) the representation from Mr. Nery and his promoters that he ingested substantial amounts of beef and beef consommé daily as part of his dietary/training regime in Mexico during several weeks preceding the Finding.; (2) a showing that governmental agencies from several countries, including the Mexican National Sports Ministry, view Zilpaterol akin to Clenbuterol, which, has also been found as a beef contaminant and has been detected in many athletes that reside, or have trained, in places like Mexico, where both Zilpaterol and Clenbuterol appear to be used fairly liberally; and (3) the specific concerns about Clembuterol and Zilpaterol as a beef contaminant have led to the design of specific protocols by authorities in several countries, including Mexico, to deal with beef contaminated with those substances; (4) the WBC, via the direct intervention of its President, Mauricio Sulaiman, consulted with the Health Ministry of Mexico as well as with the Sports Ministry about this specific case to get in depth information about meat contamination from those two substances and its relationship with doping findings in sports.

8. The WBC dealt with an adverse finding for Clembuterol in another WBC World Championship fight (Vargas v. Salido), which finding resulted from a sample collected several weeks before the fight. In that case, the WBC found that the fighter in question (Vargas) tested positive for that substance due to ingestion of contaminated beef and beef products in Mexico. The WBC’s ruling in that case subjected the fighter to a strict pre-fight testing regime. All subsequent tests were negative and the fight took place without any incident.

9. The Adverse finding notification was reported several days after the fight took place, so in fact the event took place.
III. WBC BOARD OF GOVERNOR’S RULING
The present WBC Board of Governor’s ruling is based on the facts as known to the WBC at the time of the ruling and on any extenuating circumstances as set forth above.

Based on the Findings in Mr. Nery’s “A” July 27, 2017, sample, and taking into account all factors set forth above, including any extenuating circumstances, the WBC has ruled as follows:

1. Based on the evidence the WBC examined concerning this matter, the WBC cannot make a determination with sufficient certainty as to whether Mr. Nery’s adverse finding was the result of intentional ingestion of a banned substance to improve performance. All information and facts lead to conclude that the adverse finding was due to consumption of contaminated food products;

2. The WBC hereby orders an immediate rematch between Mr. Nery and Shinsuke Yamanaka, which details shall be governed by the immediate rematch provisions of the WBC Rules & Regulations;

3. Mr. Nery shall be subjected to a strict dietary regime supervised by Dr. Philip Goglia, Chairman of the WBC Nutrition Committee, at Mr. Nery`s sole cost and expense;

4. VADA, pursuant to the WBC CBP, shall design a specific random testing protocol for Mr. Nery at his own cost and expense. The VADA-designed protocol shall commence as soon as feasible after this ruling and shall continue for six-months thereafter, or up to the date of the Immediate Rematch, whichever time is longer; and

5. While the WBC continues to investigate the effect of contaminated beef products in tests’ results obtained pursuant to the WBC CBP, the WBC will make a formal request to WADA and VADA to establish specific measures and protocols to address Clembuterol and Zilpaterol.
___________________________

[1] VADA reported the Finding to the WBC after Mr. Nery’s August 15, 2017, fight for the WBC World Bantamweight Title against Shinsuke Yamanaka had already taken place.

The WBC is currently working with the Mexican health authorities addressing the contamination of beef products and the effect that such contamination is having on anti-doping testing results and programs, specifically the WBC CBP.

SELINA “AZTEC QUEEN” BARRIOS ASSEMBLES DYNAMIC TEAM

SAN ANTONIO, TX (October 31, 2017) – After two pro fights, super-lightweight female sensation, Selina “Aztec Queen” Barrios (2-0, 1 KO), who hails from San Antonio, TX, has assembled a dynamic team to help guide her the pinnacle of women’s boxing.

Dr. Charles Campbell and his son Colin Campbell from Corpus Christi, TX, will co-manage Selina Barrios. Colin will handle the day to day operations, while Dr. Charles will help guide her career as a boxer, and personal pursuits in her professional life.

“My son Colin and I are very excited to be working with such a talented fighter like Selina Barrios.” said Dr. Charles Campbell. “Selina has the one element in boxing that all fans want to see, and that’s punching power. In addition, Selina has the mindset you look for in a fighter. The fact that she’s willing to fight a standout amateur like Zarina Tsoloyeva, in only her third pro fight, says it all.”

“Selina is the type of fighter that everyone in boxing should rally behind,” Colin Campbell stated. “She’s overcome a lot of adversity to get where she’s at today, and the girl can fight. She’s certainly more exciting then most of the male boxers we see on TV today. Selina was born to be on the big stage, and with her fighting style, she will become a fan favorite as soon as they see her fight.”

Kerry Daigle, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, who runs Keeppunching Entertainment, will stay on has Barrios’ advisor / consultant, and aid in getting Selina in the biggest fights that women’s boxing can provide.

“Several promoters are seeking to work with Keeppunching Entertainment and Selina Barrios because she might be the most TV friendly female fighter in 20 years, with the opportunity to sell out venues, even better then male counterparts.” said Kerry Daigle.

Selina’s step dad Martin Barrios, who has been in her corner since she was a top amateur, will serve as the chief trainer. He played a significant role in helping Selina acquire an astonishing amateur record of (80-3), in addition to her sustaining an undefeated record as a pro.

“Selina is a tremendous fighter with the punching power to change a fight with one shot.” Martin Barrios stated. “I’m not just saying that because she’s my daughter, I’ve seen her destroy folks in the gym. I’m super happy that I was able to get Mr. Dailge to believe in Selina. I know with his connections and Selina’s talent, we as a team, can do something special in women’s boxing.

Rick Nunez, will oblige as the assistant trainer. Nunez, from San Antonio, TX, has worked side by side with Martin, helping Selina become one of the most dangerous fighters in women’s boxing.

“With women’s boxing on the rise, Selina now has everything set in place to become a big star in the sport,” Rick Nunez stated. “You need a solid team behind you to make it in boxing, and that’s exactly what we have now moving forward.”

Maurice “Termite” Watkins from Houston, TX, and Ben Flores, of Corpus Christi, TX, will share duties as camp coordinators to the trainers. Watkins, who fought in the lightweight division as a professional in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, had a spectacular record of (61-5-1, 42 KOs).

Selina’s younger brother, undefeated super-lightweight contender, Mario Barrios (20-0, 12 KOs), has been in awe of his sister since she was as dominate amateur.

“Growing up, my sister was the best fighter in every tournament we entered.” said Mario Barrios. “She literally wrecked everyone in her weight class. It wasn’t until I was a late teen that I was able to hang with her. I love my sister and I know with the powerful team that she has behind her now, she can become a world champion.”

Ann Wolfe, who was one of the most devastating punchers in women’s boxing history, has been a big fan of Selina since her days as a dominate amateur. Wolf has seen Selina destroy her competition while fighting in the amateurs.

“Selina Barrios is a beast,” said former world champion Ann Wolf. “I haven’t seen anything like her since my days as a professional boxer. She definitely has the talent to become a multiple world champion.”

“I’m looking forward toward a great career, that I hope will last many years,” said Selina Barrios. “I have a great team behind me now, I know if I put in the hard work, everything will work out, and my dreams will come true.”

QUIGG: WORLD TITLES ARE NEXT – BUT MONTE-CARLO IS TOUGH TEST

FRAMPTON-QUIGG IBF/WBA SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT UNIFICATION TITLE FIGHT
WEIGH IN
MANCHESTER ARENA,MANCHESTER
PIC;LAWRENCE LUSTIG
IBF CHAMPION CARL FRAMPTON AND WBA CHAMPION SCOTT QUIGG WEIGH IN

Scott Quigg believes he can become a two-weight World champion in 2018 – but says he’s prepared for a hard night’s work on Saturday when he faces Oleg Yefimovych in a eliminator for the WBA World Bantamweight title in Monte-Carlo, live on Sky Sports.

Quigg held the WBA Bantamweight crown over six fights before losing out to Belfast rival Carl Frampton and the 29 year old has since moved to Los Angeles to team up with legendary trainer Freddie Roach, landing their first win together in April against Viorel Simion at Wembley Stadium.

Quigg is honing his skills in the Wild Card Gym with the hall of fame coach and they were ringside when WBA Super king Leo Santa Cruz and regular champion Abner Mares were in action in California two weeks ago, where both men won via stoppage.

Yefimovych is ranked at number four in the WBA so a win for Quigg puts him right in the mix for a World title clash in 2018 – and with the stakes high, Quigg knows it’s going to be a hard night’s work.

“I’m expecting a tough fight from Oleg,” said Quigg. “I know I’ve got a tough fight in front of me but it’s one I’m very confident in with the work I’m putting in and how I’m looking in the gym. Oleg’s highly ranked in the WBA so it’s going to shoot me right up there. I’ve never boxed in Monte Carlo so it’s another new experience and one I am looking forward to.

“The fights I want are Abner Mares, Santa Cruz. I believe they’re going to be fighting early March or sometime in April, I’d love the winner of that. I want to be involved in big fights, like the big fight with Carl Frampton.”

A rematch with Frampton is a fight that Quigg would also love, and like Quigg, ‘The Jackal’ has recently made a training switch from Shane McGuigan to Jamie Moore.

“I made some big changes,” said Quigg. “I needed to make them big changes and I felt the benefits of it.

“It’s good to have something different, Freddie has unrivalled experience and teaming up with him was only ever going to improve me. I’ve been getting back to my boxing with Freddie, getting behind the jab and simplifying things. It’s all been about letting my skills flow and not smothering my work, and that will let my natural power work. I’ve been learning every day and most importantly, I’m happy.

“I have no doubt Carl will be the same. He’s been with the McGuigans for a long time and sometimes you just need a change.

“I do think the change will benefit him, it will do him good. The main thing is you’ve got to enjoy training. If you’re not enjoying it, you might as well walk away.

“He’s changed his trainer, he’s changed his team, and it might give him that spark back that he was lacking.

“I came up short but I believe I’ve made massive improvements already, learned from that. Those are the fights I want to be involved in. Anybody who’s got a World title at 126lbs, they are the fights I want to be involved in.

“I believe I can beat him, so I would love that fight, but there is Leo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares, Oscar Valdez, Lee Selby. I want to be involved in any of those big fights. On my day, I turn up 100 per cent, I believe I can beat every one of them.

“He’s the only person to beat me, so obviously I want a rematch. If it didn’t happen it would be through no fault of me not wanting it. I want to put the record straight.”

Quigg and Yefimovych clash on a stacked bill in Monte-Carlo topped by a pair of World title battles with Russian destroyer Dmitry Bivol making the first defence of his WBA Light-Heavyweight strap against Australian Trent Broadhurst while Jamie McDonnell and Liborio Solis return to Monte-Carlo for a rematch for McDonnell’s WBA Bantamweight crown and Agit Kabayel defends his European Heavyweight title against Londoner Dereck Chisora.

Victory Sports & Entertainment’s Sonny “Pretty Boy” Fredrickson back in action at the WBA Convention’s Night of Boxing

Medellin, Colombia (October 31, 2017)–Victory Sports & Entertainment’s highly touted Junior Welterweight, Sonny “Pretty Boy” Fredrickson (17-0 11 Kos) will return to the ring tomorrow at the WBA Convention’s boxing card taking place in Medellin, Colombia.

The WBA is hosting its 96th Annual Convention in Medellin, Colombia from October 30 through November 2nd. As it does at every convention, the WBA will be helping to stage a boxing card for all of the boxing luminaries in attendance. As the 9th ranked fighter in the WBA’s Junior Welterweight rankings, the WBA chose Sonny for one of the highly coveted slots. “I am very proud to fight at the WBA’s 96th Convention and feel honored that President Gilberto Mendoza personally chose me to fight on this show,” states Fredrickson. “I hope to one day fight for the WBA World Championship and look forward to putting on a good show in front of all the convention attendees,” Fredrickson continued.

Fredrickson will face undefeated Colombian native Placido Ramirez (10-0, 7 KOs). “I know Ramirez is tough and that he will be looking to represent his country at this fight, but I’ve trained hard. I had a great camp and I am ready for a great fight,” says Fredrickson.

Rick Torres, President of Victory Sports, feels that this fight can provide a springboard to bigger and better things for Fredrickson. “The Junior Welterweight Division is an exciting weight class, and with Terrance Crawford moving up to Welterweight, there are going to be a lot of opportunities for young fighters like Sonny at 140.” We expect Sonny to keep moving up the rankings and hope that he will be in a position to challenge for a world title in 2018. We are very grateful to Gilberto and the WBA for providing this opportunity for Sonny and are certain he will not disappoint” states Torres.

Mike Leanardi, COO of Victory sports, adds “I want to thank Gilberto Mendoza Jr. and the WBA for affording us the opportunity to fight at this year’s convention in Medellin.” He continues, “I have the utmost confidence in Sonny and look forward to him putting on a great performance Wednesday night.”

With the recent addition of former world champion Jose Pedraza, Victory Sports continues to grow its roster and profile in the sport. Having Sonny Fredrickson on the WBA Convention card only helps to solidify their position as an emerging managerial force in boxing.

Founded by noted sports attorney Rick Torres and boxing trainer Mike Leanardi, Victory Sports & Entertainment is an athlete management company with offices in New York and Las Vegas.

WILLIAMS: “MY MOTIVATION IS A MILLION PERCENT HIGHER THIS TIME!”

Liam Williams warns bitter nemesis Liam Smith to prepare for an improved product, both physically and mentally, when they continue their long standing and very public feud at Newcastle’s Metro Arena on November 11th, BT Sport and BoxNation screen live.

In their feisty initial encounter in Manchester last April, the 25-year-old reigning British super-welter king from the Rhondda Valley showed his class to edge ahead on all three cards before his enforced withdrawal, following a butt induced cut after nine rounds.

In defeat, the pride of Clydach Vale was forced to surrender his 17 fight unbeaten record and his dream of lifting the WBO interim title. Nevertheless, he insists the pain was short-lived.

‘I was only down for a couple of days before I gave myself a kick up the arse and started to look to the future,’ says the Gary Lockett coached box-fighter.

‘Obviously it was disappointing to lose my unbeaten record but it’s not as if I took a pasting, got sparked out, or was made a fool of. No one is saying Liam Smith outclassed me.

‘In fact, I took a lot more positives than negatives from the fight. I think I ticked a lot of boxes; I dealt well with the pressure of such a high level promotion and proved my stamina, showed my ability, against a world class fighter, a former world champion.

‘Going in, I thought I was good enough to compete in top class, now I actually know that I am.’

While the judges endorsed the Welshman’s superiority during the 27 minutes that the first encounter lasted, Team Williams have been conscious to guard against any complacency.

‘Trust me, this time, I’m a lot better prepared,’ insists lionheart Liam who has prepped at the Phoenix Gym in Llanrumney.

‘I’ve put myself through enormous sacrifice. Come fight night, I’ll have been at it for 16 weeks and my physique is rock solid. Expect to see me a lot, lot stronger.

‘I’ve cut down on the number of long runs and replaced them with a lot of high intensity 400 metre and 800 metre track work. That’s brought big improvements.

‘I’ve been bang on form in the gym. I’ve sparred a ridiculous number of rounds with some very good champions and, without mentioning names, I’ve been smashing them up. Also, my mind is devoid of the distractions that affected me in the build up to the first fight. I’m far more carefree and focussed, in a very good place mentally.’

Previously revered for his ruggedness and raw power, Williams attracted many new admires for the slick skills and nous which he deployed to coast into a wide early lead on all cards in Manchester. He expects Team Smith to amend their game plan ahead of the re-sit.

‘First fight, it was partly me starting fast, partly him starting slow,’ states Williams.

‘I was very nervous going in but controlled that very well and conserved energy. This time, I expect he’ll come out firing but if he does, he’ll get hit a lot more and might even get put to sleep early!

‘It might be cagey for a round or two but, let’s be realistic here, it’s not going to be a box-off. We’ve both got big points to prove. It won’t be long before it opens up and the biggest winners will be the fans.

‘I was pretty stoked for the first fight but my motivation is a million percent higher this time. I just want to beat Smith up. And when that happens and he comes pleading for a third fight, he can ‘f*** off’! I’ll be heading to the world title.’

Elsewhere on a huge evening of boxing in Newcastle Country Durham’s Thomas Patrick Ward (20-0) will defend his British Super-Bantamweight Championship against Brimingham’s Sean Davis (13-1-0)

Rising Guisborough Super-Lightweight star Josh Leather (12-0) makes the first defence of his IBF European title against Sunderland rival Glenn Foot (21-2).

Ricky Hatton-trained Heavyweight Nathan Gorman (10-0) takes on Mohammed Soltby (13-0) for the Vacant WBC International Heavyweight Championship.

Explosive Super-Middleweight Mark Heffron (Oldham, 16-0) another of Ricky Hatton’s excellent young stable of fighters, takes on former Tommy Langford and Jamie Cox opponent Lewis Taylor (19-4-1); undefeated Jeff Saunders (11-0) of Sedgefield takes on undefeated Liverpudlian Steven Lewis (14-0)

In addition, local prospects Troy Williamson (Darlington, 3-0) Kalam Leather (Guisborough, 2-0) Joe Maphosa (Thornaby, 1-0) and Michael Watson (Sedgefield, Pro debut) will all appear on the bill.

JARELL “Big Baby MILLER and MARUISZ “The Viking” WACH & Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn & Dmitry Salita Discuss Their November 11 Heavyweight Showdown at NYCB LIVE Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Live on HBO

EDDIE HEARN: This big fight on November 11 is very important in the heavyweight division. Jarrell Miller is making big waves is the US right now and of course in the world rankings and Mariusz who has been, for a long time, they come together and they meet in a pivotal clash on November 11. Both guys are looking for a chance at the world title. While this is not an official eliminator for the world title, one thing is for sure, the winner, I believe, will fight for a world title and the loser will not. This is a huge for both of their careers and is part of a huge show with Danny Jacobs headlining against Luis Arias in a great fight and Cletus Seldin against Roberto Ortiz.

DMITRIY SALITA: Jarrell Miller is from Brooklyn, NY and has been moving up the ranks from being an undercard fighter and this is a big stage for him fighting with Danny Jacobs. This is a very serious fight for him and he is in the best shape of his career – the best shape of his life. He understands this is a big opportunity for him and as Eddie mentioned, after this fight he will potentially fight for the world title and be considered as one of the elite heavyweights. Jarrell is following a very rich lineage of Brooklyn heavyweights – Riddick Bowe and Mike Tyson. On November 11 Jarrell Miller will make a name for himself.

MARIUSZ WACH: Training is going very good and I am ready. I am very thankful for HBO for giving me this big opportunity and I will not let my people down and I will put on a great show. You are going to see a lot of motion and a lot of bombs.

JARRELL MILLER: I can tell you that I am boing to bring excitement back to boxing’s heavyweight division and back in the forefront, especially in America. I am happy to be here on a big card in a big way and I am going to put on a big show for the fans. Mariusz Wach had his chance to do what he had to do and he fell short twice and now he is going up against a big strong guy that comes forward and has the highest punch output in boxing. One thing I can tell you is he signed a contract to fight an opponent that he doesn’t think will come at him. This fight he won’t look any better than he did in his last fight. I am the Big Baby, but I am going to give him the pacifier and put him in the crib. November 11 is my debut on HBO and Eddie Hearn is going to see there is a new player in town, and Big Baby in town, and he’s from Brooklyn.

MARIUSZ WACH: That is very good. I hope that you find sparring partners that same as me that you can beat inside the ring in sparring, but they will be different than me. I hope you’re ready when you get inside the ring for this big fight.

JARELL MILLER: It’s always easy to find slow, goofy sparring partners to spar with, but there is nothing like a Big Baby – no one throws as many punches and I knock people out. Trust me, I’m not worried about him I am only worried about me. Nobody throws over 90 punches per round, I do. He’s got losses, I don’t, so don’t worry about it, I’ll make it easy on him and get him out quick..

MARUISZ WACH: I can’t wait, I will see you in the ring on November 11.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of fighting Anthony Joshua and how do you think that fight would go?
JARRELL MILLER: It’s actually a stoke of bad luck on Takem’s part because I feel that Takem is nowhere up to par, that he could do two or three rounds at that. He is too small and doesn’t have enough punching power. He stands kind of straight up but he is the kind of guy that comes forward but I don’t think he has a chance against Anthony Joshua at this point. Like I said before, I was getting ready for a fight and I didn’t get the phone call, but it is what it is and they know what I bring to the table. I don’t know what’s next or who’s next at this point but right now my main focus is on knocking Wach out, whooping his behind then we’ll take it from there.

Eddie, what do you think about the possibility of Miller fighting Joshua?

EDDIE HEARN: Yes, we require as many contenders as possible. Jarrell Miler is making a lot of noise right now and we look for potential opponents for Anthony Joshua, particularly in the United States and Jarrell Miller is at the top of the list. But on November 11 he has a very tough fight against Mariusz Wach, which is an incredible fight. Coming off a win against someone like Mariusz Wach you can start talking about world title shots. I think Jarrell Miller is one of the true heavyweights and I know Anthony rates Jarrell highly and he’d be out for a fight with Jarrell Miller. He’d be one of the perfect guys to come over and take on in the states. Obviously working with Dmitry and Jarrell there is no reason why an Anthony Joshua/Jarrell Miller fight shouldn’t happen but first he has a very tough fight to get thru on November 11.

How are the preparations for the Miller fight?

MARUISZ WACH: Camp is going very well – I have been sparring with Derrick Chisora. I plan to come to the US on November 1 and I will finish up camp there. I know it’s going to be a hard fight and I know we will be attacking each other with bombs. There will be a lot of clinching and a lot of going forward – Big Baby has to come in there and fight and box.

How do you rate yourself being entertaining both in and out of the ring?

JARRELL MILLER: There is nobody more colorful that n in America in boxing right now, especially in the heavyweight division. It is very important you show the fans who you are and what you’re capable of doing, but it’s hard to show who you are unless you have that platform to do it and I definitely feel that HBO is the ones that put their money where their mouth is and they want to come back in a big way to the heavyweight division to find talents and they came to the right guy. I am not out here to prove a point just for myself but I have to put on a show for the fans to show them that American boxing is back and it wasn’t dead it was just taking a nap. With me being the face of it right now is going to be phenomenal and after this fight on November 11, which is going to be another notch in my belt and to let the people know that the heavyweight division is back and Big Baby is here.

DMITRY SALITA: Jarrell Miller is born and raised in Brooklyn and has always talked the talk and walked the walk and has always fought the toughest guys available and on November 11 we will see a new star.

EDDIE HEARN: 100% – personalities make the sport. Characters make the sport and Jarrell Miller is the Big Baby and he does have a big mouth, he’s got a good heart and he’s an ambassador for the sport as well. You know he doesn’t act like a yolk, he’s intelligent and he likes to entertain and that’s what we need in boxing. When you look at the division right now you need, as many characters as possible and Jarrell Miller, if he can fight and we believe he can and we’ll find out more on November 11. He has the potential to be a big star. I think he is great for the sport of boxing and now he is moving up to the elite level and we will find out if he can walk the walk as well as he talks the talk and this is a perfect fight to show that.

Do you feel this will be your toughest fight?

JARRELL MILLER: No (laughing) every day life is tough. Getting in the ring and doing what you do is not tough. I think marriage is more tough for sure. The fans can say what they want and the media can say wheat they want, but what I am capable of doing and Wach is just going to be another guy that I am going to crush. Come November 11 everyone is going to know what I’m capable of doing. I am bringing a whole different kind of Big Baby, a whole different kind of animal, a whole different kind of look. I always beat people on Plan A – I don’t even have to go to Plan B but I am going to pull tricks out of the hat so I can show people what a real heavyweight looks like with the skills I have. Nobody moves like me in the heavyweight division. My ring IQ is definitely unbeatable and on November 11 you are going to see a different style of Big Baby and it’s going to be fun.

Did you notice anything is his last couple fights that showed you advantages you have?

JARRELL MILLER: I loved watching his last fight – it was like reading a bedtime story and by the third-round I was passed out sleeping already so I have ben watching his fights to go to sleep.

EDDIE HEARN: There are other heavyweights out there other than Anthony Joshua – there are two other belts as well. Of course there is Deontay Wilder and there is also Joseph Parker and I believe the winner of this fight will be in an eliminator for the IBF so they will get an opportunity to become mandatory challenger to Joshua as well so you just don’t have to rely on a voluntary shot, you can earn your position as mandatory challenger. As far as Jarrell Miller is concerned, I’m sure Dmitriy and the guys know that the more fights the better in terms of developing his profile. He has a great platform here with HBO to go out and showcase his skills to the people watching throughout America. In the build up to the fight and on fight night people will see his personality and his character will be shown through on that platform in front of a big audience. People will be wanting to watch Big Baby Miller again if he puts on a good performance and the pressure is on. He talks the talk and we believe he will deliver on November 11 and if he does on that platform, in a fight like that, I really feel like it puts him in a great position where outside of the champions, he is one of the top guys and that’s the aim of Dmitriy and their team.
