SAUNDERS: “THERE IS NOT A SUPER-MIDDLEWEIGHT THAT I FEAR”

Billy Joe Saunders insists he would consider a move to super-middleweight if he fails to nail a showdown with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin.

Saunders, 28, makes the second defence of his WBO middleweight title against Willie Monroe Jr at London’s Copper Box Arena on Saturday night, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

An impressive win could land him a shot at the winner of Canelo v GGG who meet in Las Vegas a few hours after his showdown with American Monroe Jr.

Hatfield’s Saunders has seen potential showdowns against the middleweight divisions two biggest stars fall through over the last 12 months.

Saunders who hasn’t boxed since last December said: “I signed to fight Golovkin and Canelo, but none of them have come off. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen.

“The inactivity has been stressful, but you crack on and deal with it. My last opponent, Avtandil Khurtsidze got arrested and the fight was cancelled. You just have to deal with it.”

If Saunders did make the move to 168lb he would be relying on his outstanding skills against naturally bigger men.

He added: “I am a big middleweight and don’t want to give my advantage away, but there is not a super-middleweight that I fear.

“Most of the top super-middleweights I have sparred and they will tell you I did well. Callum Smith is the only top British one I haven’t worked with.

“I will go to that weight, but when I have done my work at middleweight.”

Billy Joe Saunders defends his WBO Middleweight World title against Willie Monroe Jr in the evening’s main event; Ilford Light-Heavyweight Anthony Yarde takes on Norbert Nemesapati for the WBO Intercontinental and European belts; teenage Heavyweight sensation Daniel Dubois takes on AJ Carter for the Vacant Southern Area strap in only his fifth contest; knockout artist Joe Pigford fights for the Vacant WBO European Super-Welterweight title.

Some of the very best up-and-coming prospects in the country including Welling Super-Featherweight Archie Sharp; Ilford Super-Bantamweight Lucien Reid; Fulham Super-Middleweight Zak Chelli and Erith Flyweight Jake Pettit feature. Ilford Welterweight Hamza Sheeraz, Tamworth Light-Heavyweight Ryan Hatton and Ilford Super-Middleweight Umar Sadiq all make their highly-anticipated pro debuts.

Tickets for Saunders vs. Monroe Jr priced at £40, £50, £70, £100, £150, £200 and £250 (VIP/Hospitality) are available from:

“THIS WAS NOT LIKE CANELO NOT BEING READY. IT WAS GOLDEN BOY NOT BEING READY.” – Gennady Golovkin

LOS ANGELES (September 11, 2017) – Fight Week for the epic battle everyone has wished for is finally here. Boxing’s No. 1 superhero and undefeated WBC/WBA/IBF/IBO Middleweight World Champion, GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN and lineal and Ring magazine Middleweight World Champion and Mexican icon CANELO ALVAREZ, finally, are about to collide. Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs), who has been middleweight champion since 2010, is five days away from his 19th consecutive title defense – one short of the all-time record – against lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion and Mexican icon Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs). Canelo vs. Golovkin is the long-awaited showdown to determine supremacy of the storied middleweight division and arguably the pound-for-pound rankings.

“This wasn’t like Canelo not being ready. It was Golden Boy not being ready. We have been talking about this fight for three years,” said Golovkin, boxing’s longest-reigning world champion. “Finally Canelo AND Golden Boy are ready for this fight. First step to history. Everyone will remember this fight. It is the biggest fight of all.”

“I have trained a lot of fighters. A lot. But I have never worked with one who was avoided more than Gennady,” said trainer Abel Sanchez. “The special fighters accept challenges or dare to step up and make the challenge. It’s the measure of the man. It is the difference between good and great. Ali stepped up against Liston. Leonard stepped up against Hagler. Holyfield stepped up against Tyson. These are fights and fighters that will always be remembered because they dared to be tested at the highest level regardless of risk. Now, at last, we have Gennady against Canelo, a real Mexican fight. I give Canelo credit because he has always wanted this fight. I am relieved that his promoter finally had the confidence to make it.”

THE REAL DEAL BOXING MAKES SMASHING NY DEBUT

NEW YORK CITY, (September 10, 2017) Saturday night at Resorts World Casino NYC in Queens, NY, Evander Holyfield’s The Real Deal Boxing presented a thrilling eight-bout card to a capacity crowd of over 2,000 people.

Headlining the event was a battle for the Jr. NABF Middleweight title between Kingston, Jamaica’s Kemahl Russell and Patterson, NJ native Ian Green. In his most impressive outing to date, Russell stopped the very game Green in the seventh round of a scheduled eight-round bout. Russell was in control from the outset as he stalked Green, landing hard shots to the body and head. The assault continued over the next few rounds as Russell continually backed up Green hurting him on several occasions. Green valiantly tried to stand his ground but the ringside doctors had seen enough and stopped the contest in the seventh round. Russell improves to 12-1. 10 KO’s as he wins the Jr. NABF Middleweight title while Green falls to 12-2, 9 KO’s.

The co-feature of the evening was an eight-rounder that saw Queens native Devaun Lee (now 9-2-1, 4 KO’s) score an impressive fourth round TKO over former World Title Challenger Giovanni Lorenzo (now 37-8, 28 KO’s), from Washington Heights, NY via the Dominican Republic. The action was hot from the outset as both fighters traded freely until the 4th round as Lee caught Lorenzo with a devastating combination that forced the referee to call a halt to the action.

Fan-favorite and Real Deal’s newly-signed phenom Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga improved to 5-0 5 KO’s with a sensational first round knockout of previously undefeated Saadiq Muhammad, who falls to 4-1. The NYC native Berlanga caught the Rochester, NY fighter right off the bat with a left hook dropping Muhammad and followed up with a devastating right hand which knocked Muhammad out cold. Muhammad stayed on the canvas for several minutes but thankfully rose to his feet as the sellout crowd gave him a nice round of applause.

In other bouts, Julian Sosa, (9-0-1, 3 KO’s), from Brooklyn, NY had to work hard in capturing a six-round decision over rugged veteran James Lester, (11-13-1,4KO’s), from Detroit, MI, in a Welterweight matchup.

In a four round Super Bantamweight scrap, Yemen native now living in Brooklyn, Khalid Twaiti improved to 2-0, 1 KO as he outworked the very game Rigoberto Miranda, 0-5-2, Bronx, NY.

Another transplanted Yemen fighter Salem Almuaki, currently residing in Queens, NY, looked spectacular taking out Assel Lashoon, 0-1, Bronx, NY, with a crushing overhand right in the first round of a bout scheduled for four rounds in the Super Bantamweight division. Almuaki goes to 1-0 1KO.

Greg Outlaw, 4-0 1 KO, who came up from Bowie, MD and Sidney Maccow, 4-7 3 KO’s, out of NYC, NY engaged in a highly-entertaining six round Jr. Welterweight fight which saw the Maryland native squeak out a unanimous decision victory, 59-56, and 58-56 on the other 2 judges scorecards.

Cesar Francis, 2-0 1KO, Brooklyn, NY blasted out pro debuter Eduardo Rodriguez, 0-1, NYC, NY.

Real Deal Sports & Entertainment COO Eric Bentley had these comments after the nights’ festivities “This is more than we could have hoped with our New York debut. All the hard work that went into this event by our amazing staff and fighters showed that there is a place for grassroots boxing in New York. I’m very proud of these fighters, each of them taking a chance and testing themselves in competitive fights. Edgar Berlanga is a superstar, mark my words: he will be a world champion one day. How many young prospects are willing to step up and fight another one? Much respect to both him and Saadiq for their competitive spirit. Also, Kemahl Russell and Devaun Lee just put the middleweight division on notice with their very impressive victories. We’re excited to keep bringing these types of events to New York and we’re only going to get better.”

Evander Holyfield, co-founder of the company, had this to say: “Wow was this an exciting night or what? What a great crowd and these young men who fought tonight put on a great show; that’s what this is company is about. Competitive fights, opportunities, and excitement… let’s do it again.”

The first part of the fights streamed live on Facebook through the FightNight Live Platform with the final 3 bouts streamed live on The Real Deal Boxing site, www.therealdealboxing.com.

The next Real Deal Championship boxing event is scheduled for September 28th in Louisville, KY. The card will feature Toka Kahn Clary (22-1, 16 KO) vs Braulio Rodriguez (19-2, 17 KO) for the WBC Continental Americas Featherweight Title, and the co-feature will include Duke Micah (20-0, 18 KO) vs Mario Diaz (16-1, 6 KO) for Micah’s WBC International Bantamweight Title. Also on the card will be Joshua Davis (11-1, 5 KO) vs Ray Lampkin (10-0, 4 KO) and Real Deal’s newest prospect Joshua Temple (4-0,4 KO) taking on fellow undefeated prospect Bryan Daniel (5-0, 3 KO). The card will also feature 3 of Real Deal’s top prospects JaNelson Bocachica, the pro debut of Justin “The Brooklyn Torch” Biggs, and Louisville’s own Carlos Dixon.

Real Deal Sports & Entertainment would like to thank its devoted sponsors Medical Arts Radiology, Venum, and Nissan of Queens.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT SLUGGERS SERGEY KOVALEV AND VYACHESLAV SHABRANSKYY TO SQUARE OFF SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25 AT THE THEATER AT MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

New York, NY: Former Unified Light Heavyweight World Champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (30-2-1, 26 KOs) returns to the ring Saturday, November 25 at The Theater Madison Square Garden to take on hard-hitting contender Vyacheslav “Lion-Heart Chingonskyy” Shabranskyy (19-1, 16 KOs) in a 10-round light heavyweight showdown.

Kovalev vs. Shabranskyy will be promoted by Main Events and Krusher Promotions in association with Golden Boy Promotions, and televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Tickets for this exciting event will go on sale soon.

The Krusher, 34, from Chelyabinsk, Russia, rose to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings as he quickly tore through the light heavyweight division, stopping 26 of his 33 opponents. He won the WBO Light Heavyweight Title from Nathan Cleverly in 2013 when he stopped the then-unbeaten champion in Cleverly’s backyard. After three straight title defenses, all knockouts, Kovalev dominated future Hall-of-Famer Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins in a unanimous decision shutout to add the WBA and IBF belts to his collection. He continued his run as the unified light heavyweight champion for two more years before meeting undefeated champion and Olympic gold medalist Andre “SOG” Ward in Las Vegas and on HBO pay-per-view. Kovalev dropped two controversial and hard-fought losses to the current pound-for-pound king.

Now, Sergey Kovalev is ready to write the next chapter of his career. Before returning to the United States from a summer in Russia, he spent time at a monastery in Greece to clear his head and prepare mentally and spiritually for his climb back to the top of his division. Kovalev said, “I learned a lot from my fights with Andre Ward. When you don’t win and when you suffer adversity, it makes you stronger. It also shows you who your real friends are. I feel like I cleaned out my life and now I’m ready to start fresh. I’m very excited to get back in the ring, and fight at Madison Square Garden for the first time, and I’m focused on the future. I’m not looking back.”

Shabranskyy, 30 of Zhytomyr, Ukraine, and fighting out of Los Angeles, California has quickly made a name for himself in the light heavyweight division. “Slava” made his professional debut in 2012 with 17 straight victories and 14 knockouts. His only career blemish is a hard-fought TKO loss to Sullivan Barrera, the Cuban sensation who is currently ranked #3 by the WBC and #2 by the WBA at light heavyweight. Since his loss to Barrera, Shabranskyy has two straight wins both coming by way of knockout including his most recent win over Todd Unthank May where he secured the WBC USNBC Light Heavyweight Title. This is Shabranskyy’s opportunity to shoot to the top of his division if he can pull off an upset of the former unified champion.

“I’ve been waiting for this fight a long time. I will take this chance to show everyone my abilities and qualities in the ring,” Shabranskyy said. “My coach, Manny Robles and I have been working on movement and defense, which together with my natural power will be more than enough to defeat a great fighter such as Kovalev. I’m proud to represent USA and Ukraine at this fight.”

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva said, “The Theater at Madison Square Garden is really a perfect place for Sergey to start the next chapter of his career. He needs to go out and remind people why they love the Krusher. Sergey is an exciting fighter who is a pleasure to watch in the ring and that’s what everyone is going to see on November 25th.”

“Vyacheslav Shabranskyy is back, and ready to prove he will do everything to climb to the top, including facing a top-level fighter such a Kovalev.” said Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya. “Shabranskyy is stronger and smarter inside the ring, and will show off his mastered talent when he faces Sergey. We are excited to partner with Kathy Duva and the Main Events team yet again for an amazing show that will no doubt bring the action.”

About Kovalev-Shabranskyy: The Saturday, November 25 bout between Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev and Vyacheslav Shabranskyy is a 10-round light heavyweight match-up at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. KHAN TO BE BOXNATION STUDIO GUEST FOR CANELO-GGG SUPERFIGHT AS HE TIPS MEXICAN TO DETHRONE UNIFIED CHAMPION GOLOVKIN

LONDON (9 September) – Boxing ace Amir Khan will be a BoxNation studio guest for the epic encounter between middleweight kingpins Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.

The pair meet at the T-Mobile Arena next Saturday night in a genuine ‘Fight of the Decade’ showdown between the two hottest 160-pounders in the world.

Kazakh knockout king Golovkin puts his WBC, WBA and IBF belts all on the line against two-division world champion Alvarez, who is regarded as boxing’s next pay-per-view superstar.

30-year-old Khan, who bravely moved up two-weight divisions to take on feared Mexican Canelo in his last fight, will be on the BoxNation couch to give a detailed insight into how the mouth-watering clash is likely to play out.

The former unified light-welterweight world champion believes those tuning in on BoxNation Box Office for a one-off fee of £16.95/€21.95, or watching live as subscribers to BoxNation, are going to be in for something unforgettable.

“This is going to be a very special fight,” said Khan. “It’s one which I’m really looking forward to watching because fans have been asking to see this for a long time. These are the two best middleweights in the world taking on each other. It’s the way that boxing should be – the best fighting the best.”

Khan believes that the flame-haired Canelo will come out victorious on the night following a string of impressive performances.

“Going on their past few performances I think that Canelo is only getting better and will get the win. Golovkin is an excellent fighter but his last performance against Danny Jacobs would have given Canelo a lot of encouragement,” said Khan.

“Golovkin had trouble dealing with Jacobs and Canelo has even more skills. I’ve been in the ring with him and he’s quick, has good movement and is a big puncher. I know a lot of people think Golovkin is the puncher going into this fight but Canelo’s power should not be underestimated.

“As hard as they both hit I think Canelo will take the fight on points. He is an excellent counter-puncher and likes fighters coming to him, something which Golovkin does.

“Golovkin tends to walk down fighters he is physically stronger than but he won’t have it all his own way against Canelo because he is just as imposing and won’t be bullied,” said Khan.

The Olympic silver medalist thinks the fight has the makings of an all-time classic, following in the footsteps of some of boxing’s memorable middleweight clashes.

“This fight does remind me of the great fights of the past when the middleweight division was thriving. Everyone remembers the era of Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran when they all fought each other. Even today we still talk about it. This fight has the potential to be a modern classic and I do think it will live up to the hype.”

BoxNation Box Office will bring UK and Irish fans the fight live on Sky and Virgin for just £16.95/€21.95 via their remote control, or subscribers to BoxNation will be able to get the fight as part of their monthly subscription.

WBA,WBC AND RING MAGAZINE TITLE
JORGE LINARES AND ANTHONY CROLLA WEIGH IN FOR THEIR FIGHT ON EDDIE HEARNS PROMOTION AT THE MANCHESTER ARENA(25-3-17)

SAN DIEGO (September 8, 2017) -On Saturday afternoon, October 7th, A pair of former world champions will collide as former lightweight world champion Anthony Crolla battles former three-division champion Ricky Burns in a scheduled 12-round lightweight clash at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, and will be broadcast LIVE & EXCLUSIVELY IN THE UNITED STATES on AWE- A Wealth of Entertainment.

The fight will also be available on www.klowdtv.com on the AWE Channel.

“This will be a terrific bout with both Anthony Crolla and Ricky Burns looking to make a statement and get back into title contention. These two champions are both itching to get their belts back so when they meet on October 7th, it will be a fight at the highest level and quality and we at AWE are ecstatic to be bringing this fight to the fans in the United States,” said Charles Herring, President of AWE– A Wealth of Entertainment.

Crolla, 30 years-old of Manchester, England has a record of 31-6-3 with 13 knockouts. He won the WBA Lightweight title when he thrilled his hometown fans by scoring a one-punch body shot knockout over Darleys Perez. Crolla defended the title with a hard-fought come from behind stoppage over Ismael Barroso. Crolla dropped the belt when he was on the short end of a unanimous decision to Jorge Linares. In his last bout, Crolla lost his 2nd straight unanimous decision to Linares in a rematch that took place on March 25th in Manchester.

Burns of Coatbridge, Scotland has a record of 41-6-1 with 14 knockouts. On September 4, 2010, Burns won the WBO Junior Lightweight World championship with a 12-round unanimous decision over Roman Martinez. Burns made three successful defenses of his title, before moving up to lightweight and capturing the WBO Interim Lightweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision over Michael Katsidis. Burns was elevated to full champion and went on to score wins over former world champion Paulus Moses, Kevin Mitchell and undefeated challenger Jose Gonzalez, as a well as a draw with top contender Ray Beltran before losing his crown to the classy Terence Crawford. Burns became a three-division champion as he won the WBA Super Lightweight World Championship on May 28, 2016 with a unanimous decision over Michele Di Rocco. He defended the title once with a 12-round unanimous decision over Kiryl Relikh before dropping the title in his last bout to undefeated Julius Indongo on April 15th in Glasgow, Scotland.

Crolla Quotes

“All I want to do is be involved in big fights and Ricky Burns is a three weight World Champion, I’ve got a lot of respect for him,” said Crolla. “He’s a great fighter and only lost to the very best.

“I’m looking forward to going to battle and putting on a display for the fans.

“It’s at a good time for both of us. A win puts us back in the mix for titles, I’m not going to say the loser has nowhere to go, but it’s going to be a tough road back. We’re both coming off losing our World Titles and the incentive is to win the fight and get back in the frame.

“I could have a tune up fight on the undercard of somewhere and an easier opponent to get me back into things and then a big fight after but I’m not interested in that.

“It’s nearly happened before a good few times, a few years ago at Super-Featherweight and again at Lightweight. It’s been talked about for years now. It looked like it wasn’t going to happen but it’s good now we’re finally going to meet.”

“I’m really happy the fight is in Manchester,” said Crolla. “It’s going to be one of the first shows since that horrible night with the bombings so it means an awful lot to go back. A lot of people have been asking me to come back to the Arena for my next fight. But if there’s a rematch, I’ll happily go to Glasgow.

“The 24 rounds with Linares puts me in good stead. They weren’t fights where I took a serious beating with huge shots bouncing my head back. Other than the knockdown, I wasn’t on wobbly legs. I enjoyed the experience. I made improvements in the build-up which I didn’t get to show on the night which is a credit to Jorge.

“I’ve got nothing against Ricky, he’s a good guy. But once that bell goes we’ll both be willing to dig deep. I’ve wanted this for a long time, I can’t wait.”

Burns Quotes

“It’s going to be a great fight,” said Burns. “There was a lot of talk in recent weeks, the response we got was unbelievable. People want to see it and now the deal is done I’m looking forward to it.

“It doesn’t bother me where I fight, there will be a good crowd coming down from Scotland. It’s a fight the fans have been getting up for and I’m sure they will turn up in their numbers.

“When I held World titles at Super-Featherweight and Lightweight, Crolla’s name was always mentioned but it never happened. He’s a great guy and a great fighter, I don’t think you’ll get much trash talk in the build-up. The best man will win on the night.

“I moved up to Super-Lightweight because the World title came up and the chance to make history was there. I’ve been making 140lbs too easily and I’ve had enough notice for this fight and although those last pounds will always be tricky I’m happy to be back down at 135lbs.

“I’m always saying to Tony I think I’ve got two or three more years left. At this stage of my career I don’t see the point in getting an easy win. I’d rather go in with a big name. If I win, I’m going to progress and hopefully get another title shot. That’s the way I’m looking at it.

“Everyone keeps asking me how long I have left. The first time I take too many punches or turn up to training and don’t enjoy it – that’s it. I won’t put myself through it. Especially with training down in Essex for 12 weeks, but at the minute I’m really looking forward to it.

“I said to Eddie Hearn that I was 100 per cent up for it, but we’ve been waiting for a couple of weeks from their side so I don’t know what’s been going on.

“Crolla just fell short with Linares, although he lost twice he didn’t take a beating. You’ve got to hold your hands up – Linares is very good.

“It’s a make or break fight for the both of us. Even before I fought Di Rocco I always said I just want to take it one fight at a time. I’ve been the same the whole way through my career but fingers crossed a win here can lead to bigger things.

“It’s going to be hard, tough fight. The two of us will come out and go for it – the fans are the real winners.”

“What a fight between two great warriors'” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Both Anthony and Ricky are in similar places in the careers and they know that this absolute must win. Knowing these two like I do this is going to be a fight until the finishing bell with neither taking a backward step. It’s an all-British super fight between two great World champions and fans in the Manchester Arena and watching on Sky Sports can expect a wonderful event.”

ALLEN AND THOMAS REMATCH ON JOSHUA BILL

Lenroy Thomas and Dave Allen will rematch for the Commonwealth Heavyweight title at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday October 28, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

The pair clashed for the strap in Sheffield in May, with Thomas edging out Allen via split decision at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane ground.

The Florida-based Jamaican comes to the UK for an immediate return with the Doncaster fans’ favourite, and the champion expects another great night in a huge stadium show, where he wants to stake his claim for bigger things in 2018.

“I’m looking forward to defending my title against Allen in Cardiff,” said Thomas. “He was a gentleman after the fight and I feel he deserves the rematch.
“As a champion, I have no issue fighting in his backyard again. The 75,000 fans in the stadium can’t fight for him.
“It’s a pleasure to appear on another Matchroom card, especially with the main event featuring Anthony Joshua defending his World Heavyweight title. It should be another electric night and I’m looking to continue my reign as the Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion. My goal is to crack the top 15 world ratings after this fight and move toward a World title.”
Allen is gunning for revenge though and ‘The White Rhino’, who stopped Tom Dallas in three rounds in Essex in July to claim a 12th pro win, says defeat is unthinkable in his fourth spot on a huge Sky Sports Box Office bill.
“Since the result was announced in Sheffield, this is all I’ve wanted,” said Allen. “It’s all I’ve thought about in my spare time. I want to right that wrong. It haunts me, it was my night but I blew it and he fought out of his skin.

“I’ve watched the fight numerous times back. I underestimated Lenroy. It wasn’t the best fight in the world. It was quite physical and draining. He proved to be a tough man. I scored it very close, I did the forcing but he did the quality, eye catching work – It’s what you like but I have no arguments with the decision.

“I know what I’m up against now, it’s about putting the working in the gym. He took my night away from me, now I’m going to take his belt. There’s only one result this time. He’s woke up the beast. I’m a different animal all together now.

“I thought he would fold in the later rounds but he didn’t. Looking back, I took my foot off the gas in training in the build-up too. You can make a mistake once and you are a fool, but if you make the same mistake twice you are an idiot. It won’t happen again.

“‘The White Rhino’ is a Box Office Superstar. Four times in ten months, I’m living the dream but this time it’s my last chance. If I don’t win, where do I go from here? I don’t want to face that.

“It’s my first time fighting abroad! The support will be massive as always. It means a lot to me, there will be a very strong South Yorkshire contingent in Cardiff. They will take that Principality Stadium roof off with their noise.

“I needed a win and didn’t want to come into this fight off the back of a loss. So, we got back out quickly and got a win under our belt against Tom Dallas.

“For this fight, I’ll come in around 16 ½ stone. I was fit and in shape as an amateur and I haven’t been like that since I turned pro. There was a lot of fuss made when I was a kid with people saying I can fight. I’m going to get in shape for this fight.

“I’ve made a promise to myself and to my Dad, who has not been very well, he said to me: ‘This is it. This is your last chance’ – that’s struck a chord with me. On October 28 I’m going to perform my heart out. If I don’t my career is finished.”

Thomas and Allen’s rematch is the second fight to be added to the undercard of Anthony Joshua MBE’s World Heavyweight title defence against Kubrat Pulev after yesterday’s announcement that Kal Yafai will defend his WBA Super-Flyweight title against unbeaten mandatory challenger Sho Ishida and Frank Buglioni and Callum Johnson meet for the British and Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight titles.

BIG BEAR, CALIF. (September 8, 2017) — Boxing’s No. 1 superhero and undefeated WBC/WBA/IBF/IBO Middleweight World Champion, GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN and lineal and Ring magazine Middleweight World Champion and Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez are entering their epic showdown with each coming off very different performances. On March 18, in front of a packed Madison Square Garden, Golovkin beat fellow world champion Daniel Jacobs by unanimous decision in a hard-fought battle. It was Golovkin’s 18th consecutive title defense — two short of the record — since becoming world champion in 2010 and the first to go the distance. That had media speculating that age was starting to become a factor for Golovkin, currently boxing’s longest-reigning world champion. Two months later, on May 6 — at a catchweight of 164.5 pounds (the less-than-super super middleweight division?) — Alvarez won a lopsided unanimous decision over former middleweight champion Julio César Ch?vez, Jr., who barely threw a punch and did everything he could do to survive. Not win.

Throughout training camp, Golovkin has been asked about the comparison between the two fights — the difficulty he had against Jacobs and the ease Alvarez had against Ch?vez.

“I am not Julio César Ch?vez, Jr. and Canelo is no Danny Jacobs. There are no survivors in my fights,” said Golovkin. “Boxing is a business. If I look great against Jacobs…if I knocked him out, I would not be getting this fight with Canelo now. Jacobs was a very good fighter and gave me good learning experience going 12 rounds. I have never done that before. I felt amazing going 12 rounds for the first time. Jacobs gives everyone problems.”

Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, concurs.

“Danny Jacobs is the second-best middleweight in boxing. It was a tough fight because the two best in the middleweight division were fighting each other. The matchup was as good in the ring as it was on paper,” said Sanchez. “Jacobs also gamed the system by skipping the IBF’s mandatory fight day weigh-in where the fighters are only allowed to gain ten pounds from the previous day’s Official Weigh-In. Gennady, as defending champion, honored the IBF’s rule and weighed-in the next morning. Who knows how heavy Jacobs was the night of the fight? But even with that advantage Gennady was able to win. Jacobs was easily one weight division heavier than Gennady. Not getting the knockout may have been a double blessing for us. It showed that Gennady was capable of going twelve rounds with an elite fighter and it gave us the fight with Canelo. If Gennady had knocked Jacobs out there is no way Golden Boy would have the confidence to put Canelo in with us this year. Now let’s look at Canelo’s last fight. Ch?vez hasn’t fought under 167 pounds in five years. He was drained and barely threw a punch. If that same Chavez fights Gennady, there is no question Gennady knocks him out. Ch?vez was a sitting duck. There is no debate on who had the better win against the better opponent. Watching Canelo’s performance against Ch?vez gave us a lot of confidence too.” .

Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) who has been middleweight champion since 2010, is eight days away from his 19th consecutive title defense – one short of the all-time record – against lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion and Mexican icon Alvarez (49-1-1, 34 KOs). Canelo vs. Golovkin is the long-awaited showdown to determine supremacy of the storied middleweight division and arguably the pound-for-pound rankings.

Local Rivalry Reignites on the Next Installment of Mohegan Sun’s Rising Stars Boxing Series Nate Green vs. Josh Crespo Rematch Oct. 5 in Alexander vs. Ayala Co-Feature

Uncasville, CT: On October 5, New Haveners Nate Green (9-0, 2 KOs) and Josh Crespo (7-5-3, 3 KOs) will face-off in an eight-round rematch on the highly anticipated third installment of Mohegan Sun’s Rising Stars Boxing Series. The local rivals initially faced off in 2011 at Mohegan Sun, with Green defeating Crespo in a four-round unanimous decision.

The first fight between Green, 28, and Crespo was Green’s professional debut. Since then, the Brooklyn-born southpaw has amassed nine straight victories with two of those wins coming by way of knockout. In his most recent fight, he travelled to Ponce, Puerto Rico and came back from a second-round knockdown to upset Emanuel Rivera in hostile territory. Aside from his win in Puerto Rico and a short ride to Queens, all of the New Haven’s local’s fights took place in Connecticut, where he has been amassing quite a fan base. This will be Nate’s fourth time fighting at Mohegan Sun.

Crespo, also 28, has fought his entire professional career in the Northeast, including five fights at Mohegan Sun. He made his Rising Stars debut on the inaugural event of the series in November of last year with a stellar first round KO over Jesus Gonzales from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

When asked about the fight Green stated, “The day he beat me is not on one of these calendars!! If you want to succeed, believe it!! Greatness at ground level.”
Since their initial fight in 2011, Crespo has been eager to avenge his first career loss. Despite some losses on his record, Crespo has been a more active fighter than Green over the last few years. Crespo may also have a size advantage this time around: their first fight was at 119 lbs, but the rematch will take place at 123 lbs. Crespo added, “When the sun rises in Africa, whether it’s a gazelle or a lion, they both know what they got to do to make it to another sunrise: either I out run the lion or eat the gazelle, but my objective is to win the next sunrise no matter what position or what opposition.”

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva said, “Both of these guys are from New Haven and have been fighting in Connecticut, building up their fan bases for years. This local grudge match is the kind of fight their supporters want to see! We’re often unable to make this kind of fight because the boxers are friends or work in the same gym. So it’s refreshing to have two fighters from the same area agree to face each other. Everyone at Mohegan Sun on October 5 is definitely going to get their money’s worth! It will be a great Thursday night for boxing fans in Connecticut.”

About October 5: The Mohegan Sun’s Rising Stars Boxing Series hosts its third installment with a rare Thursday Night edition at the Arena at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. The Main Event features a ten-round middleweight match-up between Rising Stars’ staple Vaughn Alexander and former middleweight title contender Elvin Ayala. The series is presented by Mohegan Sun and Main Events and feature boxing prospects from New England and around the world. Tickets start at $40 and are available now through Ticketmaster and the Mohegan Sun box office.

YARDE FACES NEMESAPATI FOR WBO INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Dynamite punching Light-Heavyweight Anthony Yarde will face Norbert Nemesapati for the Vacant WBO Intercontinental Championship, with his WBO European belt also on the line, at London’s Copper Box Arena on September 16th, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

Undefeated Yarde (12-0, 11 KO’s) claimed the Southern Area title by defeating Chris Hobbs in May and added the WBO European title in July with a first-round demolition of Hungarian champion Richard Baranyi, which earned him a number eight spot in the World rankings.

The Iford man will not be taking his Hungarian opponent lightly. Nemesapati has only been stopped three times in 31 bouts and only to world class fighters. More experienced than Yarde, the 22-year-old Nemesapati has amassed 25 career wins since joining the professional ranks in 2012, stopping 18 of his opponents.

“I can’t wait to get back under the lights and add another belt to my collection on September 16th,” said Yarde. “It is a late change of opponent but I have stayed focused in the gym and will deliver another explosive performance at the Copper Box.

“I still haven’t shown anywhere near my full potential, I’m looking forward to stepping it up now. I feel good, I feel healthy and I feel fit. A win next week takes me a step closer to becoming the World Champion, that’s my goal.”

Frank Warren said: “The original opponent Ryan Ford had signed a contract to face Anthony Yarde some weeks ago but he has now gone missing, he hasn’t responded to emails or calls and his manager has become invisible too. We are disappointed as he was another undefeated opponent for Anthony. Like the true professional he is, Anthony has stayed focus throughout and is determined to win another belt.

“Nemesapti has been in with some excellent opponents throughout his career and will be coming over here to win. I’m expecting a competitive contest between two young fighters.”

Billy Joe Saunders makes the second defence of his WBO Middleweight World title against Willie Monroe Jr in the evening’s main event; teenage Heavyweight sensation Daniel Dubois takes on AJ Carter for the Vacant Southern Area belt in only his fifth contest; knockout artist Joe Pigford fights for the Vacant WBO European Super-Welterweight title.

Some of the very best up-and-coming prospects in the country including Welling Super-Featherweight Archie Sharp; Ilford Super-Bantamweight Lucien Reid; Fulham Super-Middleweight Zak Chelli, New Malden Super-Middleweight Lerrone Richards and Erith Flyweight Jake Pettit feature.

CARDIFF TO HOST BUGLIONI AND JOHNSON DOMESTIC DUST-UP

Frank Buglioni and Callum Johnson will clash for the British and Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight titles at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on October 28, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Buglioni puts his British title on the line for the second time, having seen off Ricky Summers at The O2 in his first defence in July.

Johnson makes the first defence of the Commonwealth crown he won with a clinical KO of Willbeforce Shihepo in Manchester in September 2016, securing a unique double to add the Commonwealth belt to his 2010 Commonwealth Games gold.

Buglioni picked up the Lord Lonsdale belt in a thrilling fight with Johnson’s Joe Gallagher gym-mate Hosea Burton in Manchester in December on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s IBF Heavyweight title win over Eric Molina. The ‘Wise Guy’ expects to come through a tough test on another monster Joshua bill, and take a huge step towards claiming the belt for keeps.

“It’s another great show I’m on with Matchroom,” said Bulgioni. “I won the British title on the Joshua vs Molina undercard and now I’ll win the Commonwealth title on the Joshua vs Pulev undercard.

“Every bit of silverware I can grab along the way, I will do. The British and Commonwealth Titles go together nicely.

“Callum is a good fighter. All of Joe Gallagher’s stable are well rounded and fit. They come to win. Joe is a good coach, you’ve got take your hat off to him, he’s produced a lot of World and British Champions.

“They know me first hand so will know what to expect but that being said, I’m improving fight on fight. I think I’ll be too much for Callum. I intend to expose his weaknesses, one being his chin.

“I’ll be taking another undefeated record on the way through. The opposition has never fazed me, stiff opposition is what it’s all about.

“It’ll be my first time at the stadium, what an opportunity to be fighting in front of all those people. I love fighting up and down the UK. As an amateur I went all around the world fighting. As soon as I get in that squared circle, I feel at home. Regardless of where any fight is, I’m always ready to do damage.

“The fans can always expect exciting fights with me. Callum likes to come forward, he’s a big puncher so he will be looking to plant his feet. He’s a solid fighter but I’ve got too much for him.

“This mandatory has given me another opportunity to land another belt. Anthony Yarde has been calling me out, Hosea Burton wants the rematch. We’ve got options moving forwards but winning the British title outright is still very much in my plans.”

Johnson has not boxed since picking up the Commonwealth title in his first fight for a belt, but the unbeaten 32 year old believes that those rounds against Shihepo and the scale of the occasion will bring the best out of him.

“To be on Joshua’s undercard is massive,” said Johnson. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the event, it’ll be an honour to box on such a big stage.

“It’s a well-renowned title, every British fighter wants to win it along the way. To be fighting for it on such a high-profile card is an added bonus.

“I rate Frank highly. He’s a strong, good fighter. He’s shown in his last couple of fights he has a big heart and does everything well but I believe I just do everything that bit better than him. If I box to my ability, I’ll take his Title on the night.

“Neither one of us likes to take a step back. We won’t have to go looking for each other. It’ll be a fan friendly fight and it’s sure to be a tough night for both of us.

“Until the mandatory got called, I never really thought about fighting Frank because he had just moved up in weight but now we’re crossing paths so let’s get it on.

“The nine rounds I got in with Shihepo will stand me in good stead, he’s boxed at a high level against the likes of Arthur Abraham. It was my first title fight and I had a lot of pressure on my shoulders through personal reasons. But that’s in the past and now I’m looking forward to this one.”

Bulgioni and Burton’s clash is part of a mammoth night of boxing in Cardiff as Anthony Joshua MBE’s World title defence against IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev, with Kal Yafai defending his WBA World Super-Flyweight title against unbeaten mandatory challenger Sho Ishida.

Salita Promotions Lightweight Dimash Niyazov Returns to Action Saturday in Kazakhstan

On Saturday, September 9, undefeated lightweight Dimash Niyazov, Salita Promotions’ own fighting NYC cop, will return to his birthplace of Kazakhstan to face Brazil’s Eduardo Pereira dos Reis at the sold-out, 12000-seat Saryarka Velodrome in Astana.

Niyazov (11-0-3, 5 KOs), a resident of Staten Island, and Pereira dos Reis (22-4, 18 KOs) of Sao Paolo will meet in a six-rounder as part of the Astana EXPO 2017 event headlined by a 12-round battle for the WBO NABO Super Welterweight and WBA Inter-Continental Super Welterweight Championships between Kazakhstan’s undefeated Kanat Islam (24-0, 19 KOs) and also undefeated Brandon Cook (18-0, 11 KOs) of Canada.

The fight will be the first-ever outside of the United States for the 28-year-old Kazakh-born Niyazov. And with 12,000 of his countrymen expecting big things from him, Niyazov says he’s feeling the pressure.

Are you nervous, fighting outside the US and in front of so many people?
I feel a little nervous because it’s my first time fighting here and I have to perform well. A lot of people, my fans, are coming just to see me, so I feel the pressure to do very well. in front of 12,000 people. They all know me. I got to look good.

Why did you take this fight so far from where you’ve now lived for many years?
I live in the USA, I work in the USA. I have my family in the USA, so all my moves I make in regard to boxing are going to take place in the US. This was just an opportunity that I saw that can improve my boxing career.

How did training camp go for this fight?
Training camp with my father went well. I am ready to perform and outbox the guy. I’m not looking for a knockout. I’m going to box the guy outclass him and the knockout will come by itself.

How did you get the nickname Lightning?
The fans gave me this name. It’s because of my fast hands. Sometimes when they see a knockout or knockdown it happens so fast they can’t tell what happened.

World Boxing Super Series Hits the East Coast as IBF Champion Murat Gassiev Battles Former Champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk

NEWARK, N.J. (September 8, 2017) – World Boxing Super Series action comes to the east coast as the cruiserweight quarter-final showdown between IBF champion Murat “Iron” Gassiev (24-0, 17 KOs) and former world champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (53-3-1, 37 KOs) is set for Saturday, October 21 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Promoted by Ringstar Sports in association with World Boxing Super Series, tickets for the live event are on sale now and are available at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets will also be available to purchase at the Prudential Center box office beginning Monday, September 11 at 11 a.m.

“It’s a great pleasure to promote this exciting World Boxing Super Series matchup,” said Richard Schaefer, Chairman and CEO of Ringstar Sports. “Murat Gassiev is clearly one of the top cruiserweights in the world but he will have a great obstacle against the battle-tested former champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk, who will have a big boost from the raucous Polish fans in New Jersey. Prudential Center is the perfect venue for this event and I know that the fans will enjoy this matchup as both men vie for the Muhammad Ali Trophy.”

“It’s so exciting that the Ali Trophy is coming to a fighting place like New Jersey,” said Kalle Sauerland, Comosa’s Chief Boxing Officer. “Hold tight and enjoy the ride, October 21 is going to be a unique experience, think ‘Game of Thrones’ meets boxing. Can’t wait!”

A full slate of undercard bout will be announced soon.

“I promise that I’m going to come to the ring to win and do everything possible to get this victory,” said Gassiev. “I want to take advantage of this opportunity to fight the best boxers in my weight class.”

“I have a very serious opponent in Krzysztof Wlodarczyk who is a two-time world champion and his resume speaks for itself. He has fought the best and I’m looking forward to a very hard fight.”

“It is a great honor for me to fight in the World Boxing Super Series for the Muhammad Ali Trophy,” said Wlodarczyk. “I trained for two weeks in the Polish mountains and now I am back in Warsaw putting in the work for October 21.”

“I am very happy to have the opportunity to fight a champion like Murat Gassiev. He is a young, strong champion like I was a few years ago but I am ready to show that I am still the best in the division.”

One of the hardest punchers in the sport, Gassiev trains with Abel Sanchez in Big Bear, California and hails from Vladikavkaz, Russia. The 23-year-old made his U.S. debut in 2015 and delivered four straight knockout victories, including a “Knockout of the Year” contender when he flattened Jordan Schimmel in the first round in May 2016. Gassiev then challenged Denis Lebedev in Russia last December and was able to drop the champion on his way to winning the IBF title.

Fighting out of Piaseczno, Poland, Wlodarczyk first became a world champion when he defeated Steve Cunningham in 2006 to capture the IBF crown. After fighting to a draw against WBC Champion Giacobbe Fragomeni in 2009, Wlodarczyk stopped Fragomeni in their 2010 rematch to become a champion again. He would go on to defend the title six times and enters his October 21 matchup on a four fight winning streak.

ONE CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES FULL BOUT CARD FOR RETURN TO JAKARTA ON 16 SEPTEMBER

?8??? September 2017 – Jakarta, Indonesia: The largest sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), has just announced additional bouts for ONE: TOTAL VICTORY, set for the Jakarta Convention Center on 16 September. In the main event, former ONE Flyweight World Champion Kairat Akhmetov of Kazakhstan takes on Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio of the Philippines. In addition to the blockbuster headline bout, a series of compelling matchups have been put together featuring the absolute best in local and international martial arts talent.

Ticket information for ONE: TOTAL VICTORY is available at www.onefc.com

Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Kairat Akhmetov is a veteran martial artist from Almaty, Kazakhstan. The 29-year-old boasts a solid 23-1 professional record amassed during a stellar martial arts career which has seen him dominate his opponents with tenacious wrestling and powerful striking. In his most recent appearance inside the ONE Championship cage, Akhmetov faced divisional rival Adriano Moraes for the right to be crowned the undisputed ONE Flyweight World Champion. Akhmetov fell just short of victory, losing by unanimous decision in a close bout. Determined to earn another shot at ONE Championship gold, a victory over Geje Eustaquio, whom Akhmetov will challenge in his next contest, could be the ticket to another title opportunity.

Top flyweight contender and former world title challenger Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio of Baguio City, Philippines, is one of the most skilled martial artists in Asia, and a highly-decorated wushu practitioner. His solid striking and grappling skill set has led to huge victories over the course of a six-year professional martial arts career. Training in the high altitudes of the Philippines’ mountainous region, Eustaquio hones his craft alongside world-class teammates at the fabled Team Lakay. In his most recent bout, Eustaquio defeated fellow striker Anatpong Bunrad via split decision in a rematch. Known for his incredible ability to keep calm in the face of adversity, Eustaquio is set to headline ONE: TOTAL VICTORY opposite former ONE Flyweight World Champion Kairat Akhmetov.

Top Indonesian prospect Stefer Rahardian impressed in his ONE Championship debut by winning the ONE: TITLES & TITANS Flyweight Tournament in August of 2016. Rahardian finished both Yotha Hutagalung and Hendrick Wijaya by first round rear-naked choke to become the tournament winner. In his last outing, Rahardian outperformed Eugene Toquero to win by unanimous decision in three rounds. Now unbeaten at six wins and no losses, Rahardian puts his unblemished record on the line against Sim Bunsrun.

Sim Bunsrun is a 24-year-old KWC 3 Flyweight Tournament Champion currently competing in ONE Championship’s stacked flyweight division. He aced his first two assignments in the organization with flying colors, submitting compatriot Kun Sichan in December 2015 before outpointing Liu Peng Shuai a year later. Bunsrun now returns to the ONE Championship cage to go up against Indonesia’s Stefer Rahardian.

Cameroonian Alain “The Panther” Ngalani, who trains out of Impakt MMA in Hong Kong, is an exciting heavyweight contender with massive size and brutish strength. With the agility and the quickness of a lighter competitor, Ngalani is a terrifying combination of size and speed and is always looking to end matches early. A former kickboxing titleholder, Ngalani now looks to surprise local fans in attendance with another spectacular performance as he takes on former title challenger Hideki Sekine.

Japanese heavyweight Hideki “Shrek” Sekine holds a professional record of seven wins and one loss. He is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and has won multiple grappling tournaments across the globe. Known for his brute strength and technical grappling ability, Sekine owns three victories by submission and another three by knockout. In his last outing, he challenged Filipino-American superstar Brandon Vera for the ONE Heavyweight World Championship. Sekine looks to place himself back on the winning track as he squares off with Alain Ngalani.

25-year-old Yago Bryan of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a former Shooto South American Strawweight Champion who took on former ONE Strawweight World Champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke in his promotional debut. Skilled in both the striking and grappling arts, Bryan is making his way back to the ONE Championship cage, this time against Roy Doliguez of the Philippines.

Roy Doliguez is a considered one of the best strawweights in Asia. Doliguez is also a former professional boxer with more than 40 pro bouts. He made his promotional debut in 2015, vying for the inaugural ONE Strawweight World Championship against Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke. His next bout will be against a fellow former title contender in Yago Bryan.

Indonesian martial artist “The Terminator” Sunoto is a WKF Indonesia Champion with a 6-3 professional record. With a penchant for grappling, three of Sunoto’s six victories have come by submission. The 32-year-old is known as an aggressive competitor who never backs down from a challenge. In his last bout, he scored a first-round stoppage victory over Cambodia’s Chan Heng. Sunoto looks to continue his winning ways as he is set to duke it out with Thai Rithy.

19-year-old Thai Rithy of Cambodia is a KWC Featherweight Champion who will make his ONE Championship debut as part of the promotion’s stacked featherweight division. He holds a professional record of five wins and two losses. Four of his five career victories have come by way of submission. Rithy is scheduled to make his first appearance inside the ONE Championship cage against Sunoto.

Jeremy “The Predator” Meciaz is a 25-year-old Indonesian National Grappling Champion who made the transition to professional martial arts competition in 2017. In the same year, he made his ONE Championship debut against unbeaten Chinese prospect Chen “Rock Man” Lei. Meciaz now returns to the cage seeking victory, but will have to go through Hisyam Samsudin to claim success.

Hisyam “Zephyrus” Samsudin of Malaysia is a former WBF Asia-Pacific Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion who trains at the highly-regarded Borneo Tribal Squad with Ann “Athena” Osman and AJ “Pyro” Lias Mansor. Samsudin likes to pepper opponents with heavy handed strikes, utilizing his world-class boxing base. Samsudin’s next assignment is against Jeremy Meciaz.

“The Little Squirrel” Liu De Li Ge Ri Hu is an Inner Mongolia Wrestling Champion, holding a professional record of two wins and two losses. Liu De Li aims to make an astounding statement in his ONE Championship debut as he is booked to square off with Ramon Gonzales.

30-year-old Ramon “The Bicolano” Gonzales is a flyweight standout from the Philippines, representing Burn Soriano’s Hitman MMA. He has proven his karate mastery in competitions all over the world, but the former two-time Philippine National Kyokushin Karate Champion is determined to fully showcase his potential in ONE Championship. He will make his third appearance under the promotion’s banner against Liu De Li Ge Ri Hu.

Liberian combatant Jerome S. Paye made his ONE Championship debut in February 2016 against China’s Li Hao Jie. In the bout, Paye showcased a well-rounded set of techniques, stifling his opponent with an array of striking combinations. With the ability to make bouts difficult for any opponent, Paye will make his return to the ONE Championship cage in Jakarta, Indonesia to face former boxing world champion Yodsanan Sityodtong.

Former WBA Boxing World Champion Yodsanan “Little Tyson” Sityodtong of Thailand is known as a devastatingly powerful puncher, with the ability to utilize his heavy hands to stop foes with trademark combinations. With 47 knockouts in boxing and all three of his victories inside the ONE Championship cage ending in similar fashion, expect Sityodtong to always be on the lookout for an abrupt ending to his contests. Currently riding a two-bout winning streak, Sityodtong will be going for number three against Jerome S. Paye.

24-year-old Adrian Matheis of Jakarta, Indonesia, is a martial artist competing in ONE Championship’s talented strawweight division. In the ONE: TITLES & TITANS strawweight tournament in August 2016, Matheis defeated both Rustam Hutajulu and Roso Nugroho via scintillating knockouts in one night to be crowned tournament champion. In his next bout, Matheis crosses paths with the debuting Phat Soda.

28-year-old Phat Soda is a three-time National Khun Khmer Champion. In his glory days as a Cambodian kickboxing competitor, he left fans on the edge of their seats with his lightning-quick and pinpoint striking. Soda looks to emulate his Khun Khmer success in ONE Championship as he steps in the cage with Adrian Matheis.

Kicking off the action at ONE: TOTAL VICTORY are two promising young bantamweight prospects. Striking specialist Riski Umar takes on compatriot Adi Nugroho in a three-round contest. Umar is set to make his professional debut in his first ONE Championship stint, while Nugroho is determined to have his hand raised in his second appearance under the organization’s umbrella.

DAVID BENAVIDEZ vs. RONALD GAVRIL FINAL WEIGHTS

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 7, 2017) – All six super middleweight boxers made weight on Thursday, one day before a stacked tripleheader tomorrow/Friday, Sept. 8 on SHOWTIME BOXING: Special Edition live on SHOWTIME® (10:05 p.m. ET/PT) from the Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

OFFICIAL WEIGHTS:
David Benavidez: 167 ½ Pounds
Ronald Gavril: 166 ¾ Pounds

J’Leon Love: 168 ¼ Pounds
Abraham Han: 167 ½ Pounds

Caleb Plant: 167 ¼ Pounds
Andrew Hernandez: 166 ¼ Pounds

FINAL QUOTES:

DAVID BENAVIDEZ:
“I’m a little surprised the title shot came this early. My dad told me to be ready and if the opportunity came, I need be ready to show up.

“[Gavril] thinks I’m a kid, I know it. I’m 20 years old, but I’m going to let him make the mistakes and let him come forward, then I’m going to take over.

“He’s never faced someone like me. I’ll let him think what he wants to think. I know what I can do. This is the biggest fight of my life and I have to take advantage.

“Leaving Phoenix was probably one of the best things I’ve ever done, especially for my boxing career.

“I can’t keep my mind away from boxing and I have to stay sharp because the fights are getting harder and harder.

“The last few fights have been tough and I can’t go in there just thinking about the knockout. I have to take them apart piece by piece. My approach has changed. I’m not going in there just wailing away like Mike Tyson. I’m going to dissect them.

“I see that he’s a pressure fighter and has good body work. He only has one speed and doesn’t have any other gears. I’ve watched a lot of film on him and feel like he has some weaknesses that I can expose. I’m going to end this in a knockout! I’m ready to go 12 rounds, but I’m going to knock him out.

“I’ve dedicated myself the most I ever have for any fight this time. I had sparring partners exactly like Gavril.

“I feel comfortable at this weight, but I can see myself going up to 175 at some point, maybe three or four years from now.

“I know if I win I’m going to be the youngest super middleweight world champion ever. That’s just frosting on the cake.”

RONALD GAVRIL:
“Our camp was extended by two weeks because we were supposed to fight on Aug. 26. But the world title fight came up so we had to go for it.

“I’m going to make him fight. I’m a more experienced fighter and have a higher boxing IQ than my opponent.

“I’m not overlooking Benavidez. He’s a tough fighter and we know it. My trainer [Eddie Mustafa Muhammad] has been working with me on a game plan. I’m going to be ready for whatever he has to bring.

“It was a great camp and we had the best sparring partners, including Badou [Jack] and Jose Uzcategui.

“I’ve watched video of Benavidez. He throws lots of combinations and quick hands. They say he’s a highlight reel, but he will be exposed on Friday night.”

J’LEON LOVE:
“I know I’ve had a year-long layoff, but I’ve always been in the gym just working on my mistakes and polishing my game. I’m past the prospect stage and now I’m a contender.

“He’s not as smart as me. I’m coming to make a statement. He’s going to try and bring the fight to me, but it doesn’t matter. I’ve had some bigger guys in sparring, light heavyweights.

“It’s easy to be comfortable, but I’ve learned from my mistakes. I’m blessed to have Floyd [Mayweather] in my life, but he won’t always be there. I have to be able to do some things for myself. Everyone knows Floyd has it all, but he still busts his ass and works hard.

“Theo Chambers is back training me now and I had to go back to Kronk Gin Detroit to let the dog come out. I started with him when I was 14 years old.

“I want guys like James DeGale, and the winner of Benavidez and Gavril. Why not? I’m hungry for whatever. I’ll do whatever I have to do be world champion.

“Sometimes you need some time off and a layoff is good. I healed my mind and my body. We’ve worked on some things and now we are ready to put it on display. I’ve learned from my mistakes.

“Boxing just comes natural to me and I’m feeling really good about my chances Friday night.”

ABRAHAM HAN:
“I wasn’t always focused on my career, but I’ve gotten it back and my sister [current IBF women’s Featherweight World Champion] Jennifer is a big reason for that. I had to figure some things out. She beat my butt all the way through high school. Guys would see me with black eyes and know that she would beat the crap out of me. It was kind of embarrassing when you get beat up by your sister.

“This is a big opportunity for me. I lost two split decisions [to Sergio Mora and Fernando Guerrero] and both could have gone either way. I had the only knockdowns in both fights, but I was on the ‘B’ side so you know how it’s going to go.

“El Paso is trying to become a fight town and we have a lot of good trainers, but we still have a ways to go.

“I injured my shoulder a few years ago and couldn’t use my right shoulder so I started fighting more southpaw. I’ve done a lot of mixed martial arts growing up, and it hasn’t been hard switching from that to boxing.

“J’Leon Love has one of the best teams in boxing in Mayweather Promotions. I have to throw punches in bunches.”

CALEB PLANT
“I’m just going to go in there calm and relaxed as I always do and make adjustments as I need to. I could tell you everything I plan to do, or what could happen, but this this is boxing and everyone knows how it works. It depends on what’s going on inside the ring, and I will make adjustments.

“My opponent does different things and is very durable and comes to fight. We know he moves well and can do different things and be the aggressor. He has different dimensions. We’re not overlooking him.

“This isn’t the first time it’s happened, and it won’t be the last, having to face a different opponent than we trained for. At the end of the day it’s all about being able to make adjustments, in the ring and in life. I don’t expect anything less than an A-plus performance.

“I’m not taking this fight lightly. This is no joke. Boxing is life and death to me. It’s all I have and it’s been my whole entire life since I was nine years old. I don’t have anything else.”

ANDREW HERNANDEZ
“I’ve had about a week notice for this fight. Of course I’m going to say yes. I’m not going to run from any fighter or opportunity. Caleb is a tremendous prospect and they are talking about him fighting for a world title soon. So much opportunity can come from this.

“[Caleb] doesn’t have many weaknesses. He has good hand speed and pretty good power and very good defense. He’s the total package and I have my work cut out for me. But I’m very confident in myself and I hope I can take him into deep waters.

“Hopefully I will fight the best fight I can and pull off the upset.”

“I’ve had some upsets during my career. I’ve been doing this long enough and hopefully someday maybe I’ll fight for a world title and get a nice payday before it’s all said and done. I’m very hungry.”

Premier Boxing Champions Rolls Into September With An Exciting Slate of Shows

LAS VEGAS (September 7, 2017) – The sport of boxing was the center of attention in August with a record-setting mega event that captured the imagination of the public. A trio of shows presented by Premier Boxing Champions in September will give fans more opportunities to see young boxers on the rise in the sport.

“Premier Boxing Champions will present three shows that will deliver the kind of excitement that fans have come to appreciate. All three shows involve boxers who have a bright future in the sport and are tomorrow’s stars,” said Tim Smith, VP of Communications for Haymon Boxing.

David Benavidez (18-0, 17 KOs) will take on Ronald Gavril (18-1, 14 KOs) for the vacant super middleweight world title in a bout that will have historical implications when the two boxers square off in a 12-round bout that headlines a SHOWTIME BOXING: SPECIAL EDITION® on Friday, September 8 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The 20-year-old Benavidez has the chance to become the youngest super middleweight champion in history and the youngest reigning boxing world champion in the sport today. Gavril is looking to win the title that was once held by his Mayweather Promotions teammate, Badou Jack, who vacated the title to move up to 175 pounds where he claimed a light heavyweight world title with a dominant victory over Nathan Cleverly on Aug. 26.

The undercard will feature two more exciting matches in the super middleweight division. Once-beaten contender J’Leon Love (23-1, 13 KOs) will battle Texas-native Abraham Han (26-3, 16 KOs) in a 10-round bout and unbeaten prospect Caleb Plant (15-0, 10 KOs) takes on Andrew Hernandez (19-6-1, 9 KOs) in 10 rounds of action.

Unbeaten super lightweight contender Mario Barrios (19-0, 11 KOs) will clash with Philadelphia’s Naim Nelson (13-3, 1 KO) in a 10-round battle from Sands Bethlehem Event Center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and FOX Deportes on Tuesday, September 16 at 10 p.m./7 p.m. PT. The 22-year-old Barrios of San Antonio has been on a roll this year, knocking out Yardley Armenta Cruz in March and Jose Luis Rodriguez in June.

In the other televised bouts, Brooklyn light heavyweight prospect Earl Newman (10-0, 7 KOs) takes on Toledo’s Paul Parker (8-2, 4 KOs) in an 8-round bout to open the broadcast and a pair of undefeated featherweight prospects Stephen Fulton (11-0, 5 KOs) and Adam Lopez (8-0, 3 KOs) face off in an eight-round co-main event.

Six boxers with a combined record of 72-1 will do battle on TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and FOX Deportes on Sept. 26 from Cannery Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. ET. Unbeaten Cuban super featherweight Leduan Barthelemy (13-0, 7 KOs) will meet Eduardo Ramirez (20-0-2, 7 KOs) from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico in a 10-round main event.

In the co-main event Alejandro Salinas (8-1, 8 KOs) of Youngstown, Ohio battles Duarn Vue (12-0-2, 4 KOs) of Madison, Wisconsin in an eight-round super featherweight bout. In the opening TV bout, Bryan Figueroa (12-0, 5 KOs) of Tijuana, Mexico will fight for the first time outside of Mexico when he takes on Ivan Jimenez (7-0-1, 4 KOs), who is from Cuba but now lives in Las Vegas, in an eight-round lightweight match.

A MUST-SEE TRIPLEHEADER TAKES CENTER STAGE WHEN HBO BOXING AFTER DARK: SRISAKET SOR RUNGVISAI VS. ROMAN GONZALEZ AND NAOYA INOUE VS. ANTONIO NIEVES AND CARLOS CUADRAS VS. JUAN FRANCISCO ESTRADA IS SEEN SATURDAY, SEPT. 9

HBO BOXING AFTER DARK presents a must-see tripleheader featuring the four top-ranked super flyweights in the world when HBO BOXING AFTER DARK: SRISAKET SOR RUNGVISAI VS. ROMAN “CHOCOLATITO” GONZALEZ AND NAOYA INOUE VS. ANTONIO NIEVES AND CARLOS CUADRAS VS. JUAN FRANCISCO ESTRADA is seen SATURDAY, SEPT. 9 at 10:15 p.m. (ET/PT) from StubHub Center in Carson, Cal. The HBO Sports team will call all the action, which will be available in HDTV, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.

The fights will also be available on HBO NOW, HBO GO, HBO On Demand and affiliate portals.

The main event features the sport’s most anticipated rematch when Thailand’s Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (43-4-1, 39 KOs) defends his super flyweight title against Nicaragua’s Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez (46-1, 38 KOs) in a scheduled 12-round bout. The two 30-year-old ring warriors are set to wage war again just six months after their thrilling back-and-forth fight at Madison Square Garden, which resulted in the title changing hands and Gonzalez losing his undefeated record via a controversial majority decision. Sor Rungvisai used his unconventional southpaw style to capture his first world title and now hopes to defend it successfully in just his second U.S. fight, while former four-division champion Gonzalez seeks to avenge his first pro defeat in his sixth HBO appearance.

In the co-main event, Naoya Inoue (13-0, 11 KOs) of Yokohama, Japan, defends his share of the super flyweight title against Cleveland’s Antonio Nieves (17-1-2, 9 KOs) in scheduled 12-round bout. Inoue, 24, makes his U.S. debut following a fast start to his pro career, having captured a world title in just his sixth professional fight and successfully defended his super flyweight title five times. Nieves, 30, is making his first bid for a world title and looks to disrupt Inoue’s campaign in the 115-pound division.

In the opening bout, former world champions from Mexico square off when Carlos Cuadras (36-1-1, 27 KOs) of Mexico City takes on Juan Francisco Estrada (35-2, 25 KOs) of Sonora in a scheduled 12-round super flyweight contest. Cuadras, 28, and Estrada, 27, have both lost to Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, and are seeking a shot at a piece of the super flyweight title.

INDIGO 2,LONDON
PIC;LAWRENCE LUSTIG
WBC,IBF AND IBO MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE
GENNADY GOLOVKIN V KELL BROOK
WEIGH IN FOR THEIR FIGHT AT LONDONS 02 ARENA ON SATURDAY(9 SEPT)

You are the middleweight champion. Many people think you are #1 P4P. What would a victory over Canelo add to that?

“It is not serious for me, that pound for pound. There are so many great fighters. For me, what is more serious is, maybe last five years I destroy my opponents, and Canelo did the same. I do not know who is close with us in the middleweight division. I do not know who is number two, number three, number four. I know this guy [Canelo]. He is a special guy. He is a superstar. He is national idol, a hero.

“This is much bigger for me, not pound-for-pound. Pound-for-pound is just one guy who says, ‘You are number one pound-for-pound,’ and another one says, ‘No, I like that guy more.’ Everybody feels different. For me, pound-for-pound is not serious. This is my biggest fight. This fight is real because it is about winning a war. It is about boxing history. It is about being the champion of the world.”

Episode #2 of 24/7 Canelo/Golovkin premieres This Saturday, Sept. 9 on HBO Immediately following the live Boxing After Dark triple header from the StubHub Center at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

Canelo vs. Golovkin takes place Saturday, September 16 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at a special time of 8:00 p.m. ET/ 5:00 p.m. PT.

Abel Sanchez Blog Part 2

Gennady is the middleweight champion and the No. 1 P4P on most lists. What would a victory over Canelo Alvarez add to that? Why is it that you and Gennady wanted this fight more than any other?

“I think the winner of this fight on September 16 clearly establishes the best middleweight in the world as well as a strong argument for the best fighter in the sport. The winner will also be one of the most marketable fighters as well as the top of the pound for pound list, which doesn’t always go hand in hand.

“A victory over Canelo will bring Gennady within one fight of tying the record for consecutive middleweight title defenses. History will show that Gennady has always stepped to accept a challenge and in the middleweight division that’s saying something.”

Episode #2 of 24/7 Canelo/Golovkin premieres This Saturday, Sept. 9 on HBO Immediately following the live Boxing After Dark triple header from the StubHub Center at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT.

GH3 Promotions signs undefeated lightweight Thomas Mattice to a promotional contract

Nutley, NJ (September 7, 2017)–GH3 Promotions is pleased to announce the signing of undefeated lightweight prospect Thomas Mattice to an exclusive promotional contract.

Mattice, 27 years-old of Cleveland, Ohio has amassed a record of 9-0 with seven knockouts.

Mattice had an amateur record of 72-18, and was a three-time Ohio State Golden Gloves champion. He was a Ringside World champion in 2014, and was a Bronze medal winner in the USA National Tournament in 2014.

Mattice turned professional in 2014, and has faced veteran opponents throughout his nine-fight career.

Mattice is coming off a 6th round stoppage over John David Charles on July 29th in Raleigh, North Carolina.

“I am very happy to sign with GH3 Promotions, and I am looking for big things. I know GH3 Promotions can help me become world champion,”said Mattice.

“I am looking to fight three more times this year, and I am already scheduled to fight on September 16th. If everything comes out alright, I will also fight in November and December. I am looking for 2018 as being a big year, and I should start being on some of the prospect lists.”

Mattice, who is a humble kid, works at a grocery store where he is a cashier and he also stocks shelves.”

Said Vito Mielnicki of GH3 Promotions, “Thomas is an excellent prospect. He has a very solid amateur pedigree and has shown good boxing skills and good power in his first nine fights. He has not been babied and we will continue to step him up. I see big things in his future.”

“He eats, drinks, and sleeps boxing. Earlier this year, I saw him fight in Atlanta, and he performed very well, and I signed him. He has a tremendous work ethic, and he has a regular job at the store. He grew up on the rough side of town, but he is dedicated to boxing, and he has a chance to do great things in the sport.”

Mattice is trained by Push Davis. Davis echoed the words of his manager and promoter.

“He is a dedicated kid, and he trains very hard. He has fought in other people’s backyards, and you do’;t see that often by a young fighter. He has not had any easy fights, and he has fought good competition. When describing his styles, he is a boxer who can punch, and has a nice body attack. He can move around the ring well and has decent power.”

NICOLA ADAMS TO MAKE AMERICAN DEBUT ON BLOCKBUSTER CANELO V GOLOVKIN CARD

Double Olympic Champion Nicola Adams OBE faces Hungary’s Alexandra Vlajk in her third professional contest on the blockbuster Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady “GGG” Golovkin card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday 16th September.

Yorkshire hero Adams made an impressive start to her professional career at the Manchester Arena in April, cruising to a comfortable points win over tough Argentinian Virginia Noemi Carcamo. She controlled the range and pace of the fight with her impressive footwork, punch variety and timing.

In her next contest Adams forced an explosive stoppage against game Mexican Maryan Salazar at the First Direct Arena in her home city of Leeds. The 34-year-old pinned her opponent in the corner and the referee stepped in to confirm her second professional victory in the Flyweight contest.

Adams has already set her sights on winning a World title since joining the professional ranks with promoter Frank Warren at the start of the year. A win against Vlajk on September 16th will take her a step closer to becoming Britain’s first ever globally recognised female professional World Champion.

Vlajk, 37, has won 11 of her 17 contests, stopping two opponents, since turning professional in 2013. The Debrecen resident has banked over 114 rounds, compared to Adams’ 7.

“Every boxer dreams of fighting in Las Vegas one day and to be doing this as part of the biggest boxing match of the year is going to be incredible,” said Adams. “It’s great to be fighting 3 minute rounds again as this made a big difference in Leeds and I’m hoping for a similar outcome this time. My training has been going really well with Virgil Hunter and the team at SNAC. I can’t wait to get in the ring on 16th.

Frank Warren said: “This is without doubt THE boxing event of 2017, and I am delighted that Nicola has the chance to showcase her skills on such a huge bill. Canelo v Golovkin is among the very best fights to be made in the last decade and for Nicola to be part of it is brilliant for her and women’s boxing. I have every confidence that Nicola will become a World Champion in the professional ranks.”

“We had a great camp in Japan, it was very peaceful and we were able to work on a very good strategy to win on Saturday night.”

“After fighting him once I know what he does well and I know how to combat that.”

“It’s an honor to be part of such a great card with these champions, the fans will definitely get their monies worth on Saturday night.”

NAOYO INOUE

“It’s an honor to fight in American and on HBO. I’ve wanted to come here for that last couple of years.”

“Nieves is very tough, a strong fighter with nothing to lose and everything to gain, this is a very formidable foe.”

“Right now my only thoughts are on Nieves but of course I want to fight the best in the division.”

“I started boxing at a very age and have always loved it, I’ve done well so far but need to continuing working hard to improve.”

ANTONIO NIEVES

“I don’t pay attention to the odds or listen to the naysayers. If I didn’t think I could win I wouldn’t have taken this fight.”

“We’ll see if he lives up to the hype, he’s never faced anyone as good as me.”

“My plan is to steal the show, no one is expecting anything from me so there’s no pressure.”

“I’ve always wanted to be a world champion, this Saturday night I get my belt.”

CARLOS ESTRADA

“I want my belt back; I beat ‘Chocolatito’ in Los Angeles. They take my belt, then he loses to Rungvisai so now there’s a rematch and I have to beat Estrada for an opportunity to fight for my belt.”

“Estrada can’t beat me, he can’t even show up here today to work out, a true chicken.”

“I’m very confident I’ll beat Estrada, he a good fighter but I’m much better,”

“Camp was tough in Mexico, we worked very hard to win on Saturday night.”
