NIKKI ADLER vs. CLARESSA SHIELDS FINAL WEIGHTS, QUOTES

DETROIT (Aug. 3, 2017) – WBC Super Middleweight World Champion Nikki Adler and hometown favorite, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa Shields officially made weight on Thursday, one day before they headline a doubleheader tomorrow/Friday, Aug. 4 on ShoBox: The New Generation live on SHOWTIME® (10:30 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from MGM Grand Detroit.

Shields (3-0, 1 KO) tipped the scales at 165 ¼ pounds with the champion Adler (16-0, 9 KOs) of Germany coming in at 166 pounds even. In the ShoBox co-feature, world-ranked super bantamweight Vladimir Tikhonov (15-0, 9 KOs) of Russia will face Jesse Hernandez (8-1, 6 KOs) of Fort Worth, Texas, in an eight-round bout. Both fighters weighed in at 123 ¼ pounds.

Shields’ good friend and newly crowned UFC Featherweight World Champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino was on hand Thursday and will walk Shields into the ring on Friday. Also in attendance at the weigh-in was a potential future Shields’ opponent, five-time world champion Christina Hammer, who is undefeated at 21-0 and currently holds the WBC and WBO Middleweight titles.

Justino and Hammer met with the media in a forum moderated by Shields’ co-manager Mark Taffet before the weigh-in.

“I never thought it would happen, that the sports of MMA and boxing would come together like it has with the upcoming Mayweather-McGregor fight,” said Justino, the former Strikeforce and Invicta FC champion. “I think it’s great and incredible and could possibly open the door for other fights between the sports.”

“I’m looking forward to watching Claressa win the fight tomorrow night,” said Hammer. “I want to see her keep winning so we can fight one day. I only want to fight the best and she seems to be one of the best.”

Tickets for the event promoted by Salita Promotions are on sale now and are priced at $350, $250, $125 and $60. They will be available at www.ticketmaster.com.

Programming Note: Episode 2 of ALL ACCESS: Mayweather vs. McGregor will air Friday night before the ShoBox telecast at 10 p.m. ET/PT. To watch an exclusive clip of the episode, click here: http://s.sho.com/2u8OxWK.

OFFICIAL WEIGHTS:
Nikki Adler: 166 Pounds
Claressa Shields: 165¼ Pounds

Vladimir Tikhonov: 123¼ Pounds
Jesse Angel Hernandez: 123¼ Pounds

FINAL QUOTES:

NIKKI ADLER:
“This fight is very big in Germany, and I know there will be a lot of eye on me. It will be 4:30 in the morning, but there will be live streaming and viewing parties.

“I’m going to be defensive in the early going and know that Claressa is going to come forward. I want to get the fight into the later rounds. It’s 10 rounds of boxing and there will be lots of action.

“I know I will be tough to knock out and have no plans of going down. Claressa has gotten all the hype so far and she wants to put on a show for her fans. I’m going to do everything I can to send those fans home upset after I beat her and carry those belts out of the ring.

“This is my second fight with my trainer Rene [Friese]. I wanted to train with the best and I need a trainer who had worked with the top fighters.

“My trainer has really been stressing strategies. We have a lot of them. The game plan is simple: Win the fight.

“Fighting for the first time in the United States is going to be amazing. I’ve only fought in Russia and Germany, so to be here in a main event on SHOWTIME is really special.”

CLARESSA SHIELDS:
“I feel like I’m a lot healthier and hydrated than I did fighting at 160. I’m not sluggish. I used a chef who prepared my meals for the first time and I feel great.

“I’ve known about Nikki Adler and Christina Hammer for a long time. I like both of the girls, but when it comes to getting in the ring it’s all about business.

“Technically I see that [Nikki] is very poised and calm. She’s patient, but not too patient.

“Even though she may be the bigger fighter, I know I’m the aggressor. I think I can get her out in six rounds.

“Of course everyone wants to get the big knockout, but I haven’t found the right punch that gets the girls knocked out. I’m young so I know it will come.

“I’m glad Cyborg is here to support me. She hits hard and we’ve sparred. She’s strong and she is fast. She’s picked up a lot from me, and I’ve learned from her. She’s the most feared MMA fighter, and I’m most feared in boxing. So it’s great for both women’s sports.”

VLADIMIR TIKHONOV:
“This is my first time ever in America. I’m pretty impressed with it. There’s so much to do and see, but I can’t let distractions get in the way.

“I’ve been here for about a month training at Kronk Gym. Russian fighters are known for being very disciplined, and we know the opportunity that is in front of us. There is no room for slip ups and to get lazy. This is my big shot and I’m going to take advantage of it.

“The sparring has been the biggest thing. I’ve been sparring with pros and amateurs. It’s so much more powerful here and the variety is something I would never get at home.

“I can box and I can brawl. Whatever I have to do to get the win.”

JESSE HERNANDEZ:
“I had a layoff of about five years and worked construction jobs because I had to pay the bills, but now I’m back and focused on boxing.

“In the past I’ve been known to be too aggressive, so I’m going to try and slow things down and be a more tactical boxer.

“I have six brothers who were professional boxers and I’ve learned from them. My nickname is ‘The One’ because now I’m the only left fighting.

“I’m the youngest of 15 children, all with the same parents. We are a very close family.

“I’m a natural right-hander and I’m ready to fight a lefty like Tikhonov. I’ve fought some southpaws and I’ve been sparring with lefties.

“He’s undefeated for a reason. I don’t think he’s been in there with someone as tough as I am; as aggressive as I am.”

RENE FRIESE, Adler’s trainer
“We came all the way over here to bring home the belts back to Germany.

“We have our plan and our strategy in place. We are ready for this fight.”

JASON CRUTCHFIELD, Shields’ trainer
“There hasn’t been much smack talking for this fight. I told her you need to let your fists do your talking. Your mouth can’t help you in the ring.

“We are ready for 10 rounds. I’m not going to say it’s hard; it’s doable. It’s her first time doing it. We’ve trained for it and she’s been 10 rounds in training three or four times.”

Williams to defend WBC strap Aug. 26th at Foxwoods

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Aug. 3rd, 2017) — Two titans of the combat sports industry over the last quarter century, CES Boxing and Foxwoods Resort Casino, team up to bring fight fans an epic night of live championship boxing combined with one of the most highly-anticipated events in the sport’s history.

CES Boxing returns to Foxwoods’ The Premier Ballroom on Saturday, Aug. 26th, 2017 as New London, Conn., native Jimmy Williams (13-0-1, 5 KOs) defends his World Boxing Council U.S. National Boxing Council (WBC USNBC) Welterweight Title against Bronx, N.Y., vet Issouf Kinda (18-4, 7 KOs) just hours before the live showing of the Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor bout in Nevada at Foxwoods’ Grand Theater.

All fight fans who purchase a ticket to Williams-Kinda receive free entry into the exclusive Pay Per View showing of Mayweather-McGregor beginning at 9 p.m. ET. Tickets are priced at $55, $90, $155 and $325 and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.foxwoods.com, or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253 or 800-200-2882 or at the Grand Theater Box Office. All $55, $90 and $155 tickets offer buyers a reserved ticket to the Mayweather-McGregor PPV. A $325 ticket purchase includes preferred seating. All bouts are subject to change.

Tickets for the closed circuit event only can be purchased online at www.foxwoods.com, by phone at 800-200-2882 or through any TicketMaster location.

The live card at The Premier Ballroom also airs live in its entirety on FITE TV Pay Per View for just $14.99 beginning at 6 ET / 3 PT. This landmark event continues the year-long 25th anniversary celebrations for CES Boxing and Foxwoods, which both began operations in 1992; fittingly, both CES and Foxwoods featured the legendary “Sucra” Ray Oliveira of New Bedford, Mass., a member of the CES Ring of Honor, in its inaugural events, the beginning of a long, successful partnership between the two entities.

The tradition continues Aug. 26th as CES brings its brand of competitive, evenly-matched fights to the region’s preeminent combat sports destination while offering true fight fans a once-in-a-lifetime experience featuring the pageantry and splendor of professional boxing on all levels.

“No promoter has brought more events to Foxwoods Resort Casino than CES Boxing,” CES president Jimmy Burchfield Sr. said, “so it’s only fitting we return as we both celebrate our 25th anniversaries.

“Where else on Aug. 26th can you witness live boxing along with one of the most talked-about Pay Per View events in combat sports history in the same venue for just one price?”

“Jimmy Burchfield has been a legend in boxing throughout New England for 25 years, so it’s only fitting he deliver yet another unforgettable boxing card to Foxwoods Resort Casino as we celebrate our 25th anniversary,” said Monique Sebastian, Foxwoods’ vice president of entertainment and entertainment marketing. “We are proud to have had Jimmy as a partner since day one and to have hosted many of his marquee events right here at the ‘Fight capital of the Northeast.'”

The Williams-Kinda 10-round headliner promises fireworks in the welterweight division as the unbeaten Williams faces his toughest test to date against the 29-year-old Kinda, a veteran of 22 professional fights and a former North American Boxing Organization (NABO) lightweight and WBC Continental Americas super lightweight title contender who boasts wins over Philadelphia vet Mike Arnaoutis and previously-unbeaten Zack Rasmey.

Williams is coming off his most impressive win to date, a dominant, 10-round unanimous decision victory over Rhode Island’s Nick DeLomba in April to capture the then-vacant WBC USNBC crown. The 30-year-old Williams, a full-time truancy officer for the West Haven school department, returns to his home base at Foxwoods – where he owns a 3-0 lifetime record – for the first time since July of 2016.

The preliminary card features several Connecticut standouts, among them New London junior welterweight Cristobal Marrero (4-0, 3 KOs), and cruiserweight Richard Rivera (2-0, 2 KOs), junior middleweight Jose Rivera (3-1, 3 KOs) and junior welterweight Jonathan Figueroa (2-1, 1 KO) of Hartford.

Marrero battles Springfield, Mass., native Miguel Ortiz (2-0, 1 KO) in a six-round battle of unbeatens, a bout originally scheduled for June before Ortiz suffered a shoulder injury in training camp, while Rivera faces his toughest test to date against Auburn, Maine, vet Cristiano Pedro (1-1).

The Aug. 26th preliminary card also features the Foxwoods debut of 6-foot-4 Sicilian heavyweight Juiseppe Cusumano (11-1, 9 KOs), who recently returned from an eight-month layoff in June with a devastating second-round knockout win over veteran Dan Biddle, his ninth consecutive victory.

The relationship between CES and Foxwoods over the past 25 years includes some of the region’s greatest fights and fight cards, a total of 30 events spanning a quarter century.

The highlights include Oliveira’s thrilling majority-decision win over Vince Phillips on ESPN in 2000; Oliveira’s record-setting ESPN showdown with Ben Tackie in 2001, which included 2,729 total punches, the third most punches thrown in a fight; a classic back-and-forth war between “Sandman” Scott Pemberton and Omar Sheika on ESPN in 2003; plus the WBC World Super Middleweight Championship between Eric Lucas and Rhode Island’s Vinny Paz in 2002, followed two years later by Paz’s historic 50th win over Tocker Pudwill.

In 2007, junior welterweight sensation Jaime Clampitt defeated female boxing pioneer Jane Couch for the vacant International Women’s Boxing Federation (IWBF) world title, a card headlined by a thrilling super middleweight bout between Rhode Island icon Peter Manfredo Jr. and David Banks, also on ESPN. Three years later, CES Boxing ushered in a new decade of excellence at Foxwoods with a sold-out crowd at The Fox Theater to witness the highly-anticipated rematch between Connecticut fan-favorite Tony Grano and New Jersey heavyweight “Oak Tree” Mark Brown. Foxwoods was also the home of eight of the first 15 career bouts for former light heavyweight world champion and New Haven native Chad Dawson, who rose to prominence in the early 2000s under the guidance of Burchfield and CES Boxing.

Fight fans can stream the entire Aug. 26th event live on their television by downloading the FITE app free from iTunes or Google Play and using the instant stream-to-TV function for full-screen viewing, or watch online from any device at www.fite.tv. The FITE app also works with any Wi-Fi connected TV, iOS and Android devices, as well as streaming devices such as Roku, Chromecast and more. After eight year hiatus, Prince Badi Ajamu back with a purpose

Atlantic City, New Jersey (August 2, 2017)–In 2009, and after winning two in a row, Light Heavyweight contender Prince Badi Ajamu walked away from the ring at age 37.

Ajamu, who was a perennial contender had a record of 27-3-1 with 15 knockouts, but decided that he needed some time away from competitive action.

Fast forward eight years, Ajamu steps back in the ring as he takes on Edgar Perez in the six-round co-feature bout this Saturday night at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

The card, which will headlined by super middleweight Derrick Webster (23-1, 12 KO’s) of Glassboro, New Jersey taking on Lamar Harris (9-13-4, 5 Kos) of Saint Lois, Missouri in a bout scheduled for eight rounds, is promoted by Mis Downing Promotions and Square Ring Promotions.

Ajamu, now 45 years-old of Camden, New Jersey has kept in great shape while away from the squared circle.

“I have been helping people in the gym the whole time, and I decided that if I am putting time in that, I mind as well get back in there and do this on my own,” said Ajamu.

Ajamu also believes that being in the ring will also help fight for a cause that he has been involved with for sometime.

“What better way to bring attention to child abduction, which is a big problem in this country then to be in the ring and help get the message out there.”

Ajamu said that at age 45 that this is not a one-and-done situation, as he plans to stick around for specific purposes.

“The goal is take this as far as I can. I want to win another title and tie another Camden legend, “Jersey” Joe Walcott,” said the former Pennsylvania, IBC Inter-Continental, WBC Continental Americas, WBC Caribbean, , WBO NABO and World Boxing Foundation Light Heavyweight champion.

Another goal is a rematch with legendary Roy Jones, Jr.

Jones defeated Ajamu in 2006, and its’s more than a coincidence that Jones will be in a attendance as a co-promoter for the event.

“Yes there is definitely a reason why I am on this card, and Roy is co-promoting, but I have to get past Perez. I know he is a tough fighter who comes forward, and he is capable as I know Lavarn Harvell who was undefeated at the time that he beat him.”

“I have been in the gym, and have been working on things. You will see a more technical version of me,. Like I said I been in the gym, and now I want to use the energy on something significant.”

Also on the bill will be former United States Olympian Terrance Cauthen (36-8, 9 KO’s) of Trenton, NJ will fight Nick Valliere (5-2, 2 KO’s) of Forked River, New Jersey in a six-round super welterweight bout.

In a ten round-bout:

World-Ranked Heavyweight, Zhang Zhilei (16-0, 12 KOs) of Las Vegas via China, and is ranked number-13 by the WBO will take on Nick Guivas (13-7-2, 9 KO’s) of Topeka, Kansas.

also in six-round bouts:

Mike Hilton (6-0, 6 KOs) of Trenton, NJ will take on veteran Willis Lockett (14-20-6, 5 KO’s) of Takoma Park, Maryland in a cruiserweight bout.

Vidal Rivera (6-0, 4 KO’s) of Camden, New Jersey will take on an opponent to be named in a featherweight bout.

In four round bouts:

Shaddy Gamhour (1-0, 1 KO) of Pensacola, Florida will battle Jessie Singletary (0-2) of Washington, DC in a middleweight bout.

Lamont McLaughlin (0-1) of Philadelphia battles Tahlik Taylor (1-7) of Freeport, NY in a super middleweight affair.

Dion Richardson (3-1, 2 KOs) of Newark, NJ will fight against Felip Nazario (0-7) of Bronx, NY in a lightweight bout.

THERE WILL BE A PRESS CONFERENCE ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 3RD AT THE FLAGSHIP HOTEL (60 NORTH MAINE AVENUE IN ATLANTIC CITY) AT 5 PM ET

Tickets are priced at $125, $100, $75 & $50 and can be purchased at The Claridge Hotel or by calling 609-815-1181

McCarter scored two victories, winning a decision over Melissa Hernandez and stopping Szilvia Szabados in the seventh round to run her current winning streak to 16.

Other fighters to be honored are Yarisel Ramirez, as the Nevada Female Amateur Fighter of the Year; Emiliano Fernando Vargas as the Nevada Male Amateur Fighter of the Year, Kevin Newman as the Nevada Male Prospect of the Year and Latondria Jones, the Nevada Female Prospect of the Year.

“BATTLE OF THE BEST” FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

DETROIT (Aug. 2, 2017) – The four fighters participating in “Battle of the Best”, the ShoBox: The New Generation headlined by WBC Super Middleweight World Champion Nikki Adler and two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Claressa Shields, participated in a final press conference on Wednesday in advance of Friday’s doubleheader telecast from MGM Grand Detroit.

Shields (3-0, 1 KO) will challenge Adler (16-0, 9 KOs) of Germany in just her fourth pro fight since winning Gold at the 2016 Olympics on Friday, August 4, at MGM Grand in Detroit, Mich. live on SHOWTIME (10:30 p.m. ET/PT).

In the ShoBox co-feature, world-ranked super bantamweight Vladimir Tikhonov (15-0, 9 KOs) of Russia will face Texas slugger Jesse Angel Hernandez (8-1, 6 KOs) in an eight-round bout.

Here’s what the fighters had to say on Wednesday:

Nikki Adler:
“I’m preparing for this fight like any other fight. I haven’t watched any tape of her; I never do. I leave that to my coaches and they fill me in and prepare the game plan.

“This is my first time fighting in the United States so I’m very excited. Detroit it a beautiful city and everyone has been very nice to me.

“Thank you to Claressa’s team for having me. SHOWTIME has done so much for us since we arrived and made us feel at home. I was very happy when I got the phone call for this fight, and I didn’t hesitate a second.

“I came over here to win and bring back the title and the belts back to Germany. I love that this is a great opportunity for women’s boxing, and to bring back the greatness of women’s boxing.”

Claressa Shields:
“This is a dream come true for me. When I was 11 years old they didn’t even have women’s boxing in the Olympics. I’m a dream chaser. That’s what I do.

“I’ve been thinking about Nikki Adler since I was 17. I looked up who was No. 1 in the rankings, because I really don’t care who is No. 2, and her name was there, and that’s when I knew we would meet someday in the ring.

“I know she can go 10 rounds; I think she can go 12. But that’s why I’ve prepared myself the best I could in the gym for this fight.

“This is just the first WBC for me. I want to go down to 160 and unify those titles, then go down to 154 and unify those belts. I know it’s just my fourth fight and it’s come fast, but I’m on the fast track to become a world champ.

“She knows she can’t beat me. You ask her how she will beat me and she says she has will. Anyone who has seen me fight knows I have more heart than anyone. You can’t just say you’re going to beat me by will.”

Vladimir Tikhonov:
“I watched video of him, his loss. He’s not a bad fighter.

“Training in Detroit I learned a lot by sparring with fighters who have entirely different styles than I’m used to. In Russia, we don’t have fighters like these.

“Coming here to fight, I feel great. I love America and Detroit!

“A victory would open doors for me. Preparing for this pushed me to improve everything about my fighting style and physical fitness.”

Jesse Hernandez
“He’s undefeated. That says a lot. He’s undefeated for a reason. He’s a hell of a fighter. He has a good KO percentage. He sets up punches very well and he’s very calm, but let’s see how he does with an aggressive fighter who comes forward, non-stop.

“My camp was rough; the way it’s supposed to be. I was sparring with southpaws around my area, but every fighter does things a little different so there’s no way to be fully prepared for his style.

“A victory on SHOWTIME would mean the world to me. This is what I’ve been doing for almost 20 years. I’m the youngest of 15 in a boxing family. I started fighting when I was born, getting beat up by my older siblings. I’ve been getting ready for this my entire life.”

Gordon Hall, SVP of Production, SHOWTIME Sports & ShoBox: The New Generation Executive Producer
“ShoBox: The New Generation is a series about up-and-coming fighters matched tough; about tomorrow’s champions today. But occasionally we get those special fighters that show greatness earlier than others. Claressa Shields is one of those fighters.

“After just three professional fights she now faces her biggest challenge in Nikki Adler, making her third world title defense. She hasn’t come all the way over here from Germany with those belts to lose.”

Dmitriy Salita, Founder of Salita Promotions
“Claressa’s consistent success at a world class level winning two Olympic Gold Medals and numerous other international amateur tournaments is second to none. This is a significant step up but Claressa’s skills, confidence and dedication to training I believe will deliver a sensational performance. Her goals of winning numerous world titles in different weight classes shows that she is on her way to pound for pound greatness which starts on August 4th.

A highly decorated amateur who represented his native Ukraine in the 2008 Olympics, Derevyanchenko now lives and trains in Brooklyn and most recently stopped previously unbeaten Kemahl Russell in April. His 2016 saw him earn a TKO victory over Mike Guy in March before stopping former champion Sam Soliman in the second round of a world title eliminator in July. The unbeaten fighter defeated a slew of experienced contenders in 2015 with wins over Elvin Ayala, Alan Campa, Vladine Biosse and a third-round stoppage of Jessie Nicklow.

A 2008 Olympian for his native Bahamas, Johnson enters this bout the winner of his last six contests, including a fifth round stoppage of once-beaten Alex Theran and a 12-round decision over once-beaten Eamonn O’Kane in 2015. The 33-year-old turned pro in 2010 and won his first 2014 before suffering his first defeat in the final round against Curtis Stevens.

Born in East Meadow, New York and fighting out of Richmond, Virginia, Aleem was introduced to boxing at a young age by his parents. Since turning pro in 2012 at age 18, the 23-year-old has wiped out all of the competition in front of him. In January he defeated then unbeaten Ievgen Khytrov in a memorable back and forth battle that saw Aleem emerge victorious with a sixth-round TKO win. Aleem had previously defeated once-beaten Jonathan Cepeda and fought to a majority draw with Demond Nicholson in 2016.

The 26-year-old Centeno bounced back from his first defeat with a stoppage of Ronald Montes after three rounds in December 2016. Centeno won his first 24 pro fights after amassing a 90-8 amateur record including a highlight reel knockout of James De La Rosa and a decision over then unbeaten Gerardo Ibarra. The fighter out of Oxnard, California will fight in Las Vegas for the first time since a no contest against Julian Williams in 2013 that was called because of an accidental head butt.

Almeida, Gonzalez collide for interim title at CES MMA 45

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Aug. 2nd, 2017) — It’s been a long time coming for both Saul Almeida and Pedro Gonzalez, two of the northeast’s most successful, talked-about fighters, who finally get their opportunity to lock horns for a title one week from Friday.

Combined, the veteran Massachusetts featherweights have fought 43 times over the span of nine years, boasting resumes as good as anyone in their weight class in the northeast.

On Friday, Aug. 11th, 2017, Framingham’s Almeida (19-8, 1 KO) and Glocester’s Gonzalez (12-5) meet face-to-face for the CES MMA Interim Featherweight Title on the main card of CES MMA 45 from Twin River Casino live on AXS TV, presumably for the opportunity to face reigning featherweight world-title holder Matt Bessette and unify the belts.

The Almeida-Gonzalez fight is one of two title fights and one of six televised bouts on AXS TV Fights, which airs live beginning at 9 p.m. ET. The nine-fight card also features the long-awaited return of reigning CES MMA Heavyweight Champion Ashley Gooch (10-5, 7 KOs) defending the strap against fan-favorite Juliano Coutinho (7-3, 3 KOs), plus the network television debut of Cranston, R.I., welterweight Gary Balletto Jr. (3-1, 1 KO).

Tickets for “CES MMA 45” are priced at $40.00, $55.00, $100.00 and $125.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com, www.ticketmaster.com or www.cagetix.com/ces by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Almeida and Gonzalez have traveled much different paths to the top of their weight class through the years. The 28-year-old Almeida, a submissions specialist and one of the most polarizing figures in regional MMA, has paid his dues on this circuit, fighting for various promotions – some defunct, some still thriving – including CES MMA, Bellator and the World Series of Fighting.

Aug. 11th marks his 11th appearance with CES MMA and he also boasts the distinction of being the only fighter on the card who also appeared on the promotion’s inaugural event in 2010, a testament to his durability and willingness to fight anyone at any given time, making him a worthy candidate for the interim title.

“Ever since I began doing this, I wanted to collect titles and collect belts, because it means you’re fighting the best around,” said Almeida, who most recently defeated Josh LaBerge at CES MMA 42. “To have been a part of CES 1, it’s been a journey, and it’s been fun to travel along that road.

“Fighting for the interim title, it’s a nice step. Winning just means it’s a start. That’s how I look at it. I can’t wait.”

Gonzalez, while not as ingrained into the CES MMA culture as much as Almeida has been through the years, has also put everything he has into this sport, in some cases risking personal and professional relationships, in order to reach his goal of becoming a world champion.

He’s dealt with his share of setbacks, injuries or problems outside of the cage that have stalled his progress, but after winning his fifth consecutive bout in April at CES MMA 43 – a streak that remarkably spans five years, further illustrating the gap between fights he’s endured – Gonzalez is back in the conversation among elite featherweights, a lesson to anyone watching that giving up is not an option.

“It’s the same thing in life,” Gonzalez added. “I’ve been through so much, yet I’ve come this far. Never give up. I’ve had some injuries, some personal problems, I’ve had so much going on – and I still do – but I’m not giving up until I get there. I’m one step closer to that.”

As for the matchup itself, Almeida’s lanky, 6-foot-1 frame and ability to wear down opponents is always a factor. Gonzalez, however, has earned submissions in 11 of his 12 victories, so he has no problem taking the fight to the canvas against an equally-adept submission specialist.

Asked how he thinks Almeida will approach the fight, Gonzalez said matter-of-factly, “Honestly, I don’t know.”

“It just goes by who wants it more. I’ve seen him fight multiple times. I know what he’s bringing to the table. As far as how to beat him, I don’t know. Once you get in that cage, everything changes. I’ll just go in there and do what I do. I’m sure he’ll try to grind it out. If that’s what he does, whatever. I just hope what I’ve done in training leading up to this fight is enough.”

Almeida, as always, remains confident. He’s banking on his experience and unmatched resume being a difference-maker next Friday. He’s faced some of the best, not just in the northeast, but in all relations, and feels there are few featherweights who can boast a similar claim.

“[Gonzalez] has been winning, but who’s he been fighting? You know what I mean?” Almeida said. “I don’t know if you can name one person in New England who is still actively in MMA who’s fought tougher people than me. The list and the amount of names, I don’t think you can name one.

“He’s on a nice streak, good for him, and he’s coming off another win and that’s why he’s here, and I’m coming off a win and that’s why I’m here. He’s a tough guy. I look forward to the challenge.”

“Saul is going to try to get into my head a little bit. Whatever,” countered Gonzalez. “That’s his game plan. As soon as the cage door closes, it’s just me and him in there. I’m just trying to keep my cool. I’m not trying to say anything or bash anyone. I respect Sityodtong, Juniko and everyone he trains with.”:

In fact, Gonzalez used to actively avoid fighting opponents out of Sityodtong because he began training under Neil LeGallo, the right-hand man of owner Mark Dellagrotte.

“It was just a respect thing,” Gonzalez said.

Times have changed, and, as Gonzalez says, he’s at the point in his career where his focus is on “getting to the next level” more so than respecting his own history, so he’s prepared to roll the dice against Almeida knowing the payoff for victory could be tremendous.

“It’s for a title and it gets me closer either to Matt Bessette or another fight, but I haven’t even thought of the belt,” he said. “I’m trying not to think about it. It’s just another win, another way for me to get closer to where I want to be.”

The idea of an interim title being up for grabs created an initial stir on social media, even from Bessette, who suffered a recent thumb injury while competing on Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC) president Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series in Nevada, but neither Gonzalez or Almeida have a problem with where this road might lead them.

“[Bessette] had a great opportunity to be on the Dana White show and I was pulling for him. I was hoping he would win, but stuff like that happens. He got injured. It’s a business. That’s how it works. He has the belt. If all goes well, hopefully I get a belt. If he wants to unify it, I’m more than happy to do so. I like him before and I’ll like him after that, but a fight is a fight.”

The heavyweight championship main event features a contrast of styles with the heavy-handed Gooch locking horns with the submission specialist Coutinho, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt fighting out of Wareham, Mass., making his third appearance with CES MMA.

Gooch captured the then-vacant title at “CES MMA 33” in August, knocking out Greg Rebello in the third round and snapping the Providence native’s four-fight win streak. Aug. 11th will be his third appearance at Twin River, where he is currently 2-0 following wins over Rebello and Connecticut’s Josh Diekmann in January of 2016.

In a highly-anticipated regional showdown that could steal the spotlight Aug. 11th, rising lightweight star Nate Andrews (10-1, 5 KOs) of East Providence, R.I., puts his four-fight win streak on the line against Maine native Bruce Boyington (14-10, 8 KOs), a veteran of 24 professional fights and a three-time WSOF vet.

Also on the main card, Balletto Jr. makes his television debut against Hooksett, N.H., vet Nick Alley (3-1, 1 KO). Balletto carries a three-fight win streak into next month’s bout, most recently dismantling Chris Torres by first-round submission on the preliminary card of “CES MMA 42.”

Unbeaten Milford, Mass., bantamweight Kris Moutinho (4-0, 1 KO) battles Erie, Pa., native Brandon Seyler (6-5-1, 1 KO), who makes his second appearance with CES MMA, and bantamweight Richie Santiago (4-0, 1 KO) puts his unbeaten record on the line on AXS TV against Queens, N.Y., vet Miguel Restrepo (4-3-1, 2 KOs).

The 4-0 Santiago, 24, finished each of his four fights by submission, most recently at “CES MMA 43” against Chad Kelly. Restrepo returns to Rhode Island after challenging unbeaten bantamweight Carlos Candelario at “CES MMA 41.” Moutinho is off to a flying start as a pro with wins in all four of his bouts under the guidance of CES MMA, including an impressive unanimous decision win over seven-fight vet Lloyd Reyes at “CES MMA 42.”

Highlighting the preliminary card, 20-year-old Providence, R.I., native John Douma against Jason Rine (0-2) of Danville, Ohio, following wins in each of his last three amateur bouts.

Ludlow, Mass., lightweight Leon Davis (8-3, 1 KO) returns to face Andrew Osborne (7-10, 2 KOs), the two-time CES MMA vet and North Carolina native who now lives and trains in North Providence, R.I. Osborne comes off an upset win over previously-unbeaten Connor Barry by unanimous decision at “CES MMA 43” while Davis, a winner in his last four fights, makes his seventh appearance with CES MMA.

Also on the preliminary card, unbeaten featherweight Dylan Lockhard (3-0) of Hollis, N.H., faces Cortland, N.Y., vet Ahsan Abdullah (7-7, 3 KOs). Lockhard earned his first two wins as a pro under the guidance of CES MMA, including a first-round submission win over Russell Campbell at “CES MMA 40” in November.

Former World Champion Mickey Bey Returns to Take On Once-Beaten Contender Anthony Peterson in Main Event Of Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 & BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes

LAS VEGAS (August 2, 2017) – Former lightweight world champion Mickey Bey (22-2-1, 10 KOs) will face once-beaten contender Anthony Peterson (37-1, 24 KOs) in a 10-round lightweight matchup that headlines Premier Boxing Champions TOE-TO-TOE TUESDAYS on FS1 and BOXEO DE CAMPEONES on FOX Deportes August 22 from Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas in Las Vegas.

Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT as part of an exciting week of events presented by Mayweather Promotions and leading up to the Mayweather vs. McGregor showdown on Saturday.

“It’s been over a year since I was in the ring and I’ve had a lot of time to reflect on my career as a fighter and as a man,” said Bey. “I realize what’s important now and how I can protect my legacy as a fighter. I’ve put in more work fir this fight than I have for any other and I’m ready to let my performance speak for me. I’m focusing on my mental toughness and my ring IQ and I’m looking to put on a perfect performance on August 22.”

“I’m just happy to be back in the ring and fighting again,” said Peterson. “I’ve known Mickey Bey for years and he’s a good friend of mine. But business is business and on August 22 I will be all business when I step into the ring.”

The August 22 show will feature a showdown between former world champion Juan Carlos Payano (18-1, 9 KOs) and Phoenix’s Alexis Santiago (21-4-1, 8 KOs) in 10 rounds of bantamweight action.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions, are priced at $125, $100, $75 and $50 and are on sale Friday, August 4 at 12 p.m. PT. Tickets are available online at www.samstownlv.com/entertain.

“This is an incredible event to kick-off the biggest fight week in the history of boxing,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. “We are proud to announce that some of Mayweather Promotions’ top prospects will be featured on their own FS1 and FOX Deportes card, giving the fans nonstop action and excitement for the whole week. We have a great lineup in store with Mickey Bey and Anthony Peterson in the main event, and former world champion Juan Carlos Payano taking on Alexis Santiago in the co-feature. It is truly going to be an action filled night of boxing.”

Originally from Cleveland but fighting out of Las Vegas, Bey steps back into the ring after challenging unbeaten two-division champion Rances Barthelemy last June. Bey won his world title in 2014 with a decision victory over long reigning champion Miguel Vasquez. He vacated his title due to injuries but returned in December 2015 to defeat previously unbeaten Naim Nelson by decision and earn his most recent title fight. Bey’s previous victories include triumphs over Alan Herrera, Carlos Cardenas and Hector Velazquez.

The brother of current welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson, Anthony enters this fight the winner of his last seven bouts, including a dominant decision over once-beaten Samuel Neequaye last April. The fighter out of Washington, D.C., was unbeaten in his first 30 pro fights before dropping a title eliminator to Brandon Rios in 2010. He returns to the ring looking to take out a former champion on his way to another shot at a title.

The two-time Dominican Olympian Payano began his path towards another world title with a stoppage of Isao Gonzalo Carranza in January, after first becoming a champion via a technical decision over Anselmo Moreno in September 2014. The accomplished amateur won gold at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean games with victories over McJoe Arroyo and Yoandris Salinas. He defeated Jundy Maraon, Jose Silveria and Luis Maldonado on the way to his title shot and engaged in a pair of exciting fights with Rau’shee Warren that saw him defend his title in August 2015 and lose in June 2016.

A pro since 2009, the 26-year-old Santiago had won ten consecutive bouts before dropping a decision to Jose Cayetano in his last contest. The Phoenix-native defeated Gustavo Molina, Javier Gallo and Antonio Tostado Garcia in 2015 and and has also taken down once-beaten fighters Alex Rangel and Hanzel Martinez. He will make his 2017 debut against one of his most experienced foes to date in Payano.

FURY POUNDS MEAT CARCASS LIKE ROCKY AHEAD OF PARKER SHOWDOWN

London (2 August 2017) WBO World Heavyweight Title Challenger Hughie Fury is preparing for his massive showdown with Champion Joe Parker by punching on a meat carcass like movie icon Rocky.

Fury has based himself at a spartan-style training camp at Lake Windermere for the big fight on Saturday 23rd September at the Manchester Arena and is using a local abattoir to help with his preparations.

The undefeated 22-year-old has been working on his power and combinations by pounding his fists into a 400lb carcass of beef which was made famous by Sylvester Stallone in the legendary film franchise.

In the first movie, unknown Philadelphian fighter Rocky gets a million-to-one shot at the World Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed and prepares for his fight by punching meat in an abattoir.

The Manchester hero has been training spartan-style at his training camp at Lake Windermere with arduous mountain runs, log chopping and swimming in freezing lakes with father and trainer Peter watching on and believes this adds another dimension to his training.

“I love different ways of training to keep things fresh and new and when the owner of the abattoir saw us training in the hills we ended up talking and he mentioned about Rocky punching the meat and said I could come and do the same at his place,” Said Fury.

“I jumped at the chance because, one, the carcass of meat weighs nearly 400 pounds and that is one heavy ‘punch bag’ to slam punches into. Two, its makes a much better sound when the fist connects with the meat, just like in a fight and, three, Rocky is one of my favourite all time movies so to do that myself was a bit of thrill,”

“That carcass has Joseph Parker’s face on it when I’m punching the hell out of it and hearing the ribs and bones crack it makes me punch it harder and harder. Just like Rocky, my white hand wraps end up a bloody mess after a twelve round session on the meat.”

“I’m preparing like never before for this fight and pushing myself to the limits and beyond. There’s no way Parker is leaving Manchester with that World title. I will everything to make sure that belt stays here with me.”

BURNETT MEETS ZHAKIYANOV IN HISTORIC UNIFICATION BLOCKBUSTER

BELFAST BOY PROMOTION
WEIGH IN
HILTON HOTEL,BELFAST
PIC;LAWRENCE LUSTIG
IBF BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE
CHAMPION LEE HASKINS AND CHALLENGER RYAN BURNETT WEIGH IN FOR THEIR CLASH ON EDDIE HEARNS PROMOTION AT BELFASTS SSE ARENA ON SATURDAY(10-6-17)

Ryan Burnett will face Zhanat Zhakiyanov in an historic unification clash for the IBF and WBA Super World Bantamweight titles at the SSE Arena in Belfast on Saturday October 21, live on Sky Sports.

Burnett ripped the IBF crown from Lee Haskins in impressive style in June at the SSE Arena and puts the title on the line in the first unification fight to be held in Northern Ireland.

The unbeaten Belfast talent faces a stiff examination if he’s to land the WBA strap in the form of Zhakiyanov, the 30 year old Kazakh trained by British legend Ricky Hatton who is fresh from an impressive February win over Rau’shee Warren in his backyard in Ohio to claim the title.

“I’m very, very excited!” said Burnett. “This is the path I’ve always believed in and asked for – to be not just a World champion but a great World champion and this is exactly the fight that propels me into that position. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I’ve done a lot of work with him in sparring but back then I was a kid and hardly had any fights and he was fighting for the European title. I know what it’s like to share a ring with him but he doesn’t know what it’s like to share a ring with the current Ryan Burnett. A lot has changed since we last sparred for me but not with him. It’s good to have that bit of knowledge, I know a few things about him. That can only work in my favour.

“The Belfast fans have really took a shine to me especially since my last fight, everything has taken off and I’m just looking forward to getting back to the SSE Arena with a packed house behind me.”

“I’ve won against all title holders that my management team put in front of me,” said Zhakiyanov. “In Switzerland in 2011, in Sheffield in against Karim Guerfi, in Vraza against Hector Guzman, in Monaco against Yonfrez Parejo and in Ohio against Warren. Ryan Burnett will not be different from what I’ve always achieved.”

“I’m so proud firstly to be part of history in bringing this huge unification to Belfast but also of Ryan Burnett for taking on this huge challenge,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Following his great win against Haskins for the title, it would have been so easy to come back to Belfast with a standard defence but Ryan want to be great and make history and this fight against Zhakiyanov can do just that. It’s a brilliant fight and it’s going to be a special night on October 21 – fight fans can expect an epic main event and a stacked card whether watching in the SSE or live on Sky Sports.”

Details on the undercard and tickets will be released at a press conference next week which will be announced soon.

BRANDUN LEE AND ADAM DARANYI RACK UP WINS IN NORTH CAROLINA

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – August 1, 2017 – Two of Victory Boxing Promotions’ top prospects saw action in North Carolina Saturday, and both ended the night with their hands raised. Junior Welterweight prospect, and standout amateur Brandun Lee (4-0, 3KO) dominated Donavin Battle over four rounds to cruise to a unanimous decision win (40-36, 40-35, 40-35). Adam Daranyi, Jr. (12-0, 11KO)’s Junior Middleweight bout versus veteran Andre Baker ended early, with Daranyi stopping the game fighter in under two rounds. Both fighters are managed by Cameron Dunkin.

Brandun Lee

It was the fourth bout for Lee since he impressed in a first round knockout in his January debut earlier this year. He controlled the action throughout the fight, knocking Battle down in the 2nd round. The accomplished amateur (181-9), who hails from Coachella and was described as a “prodigy” by Ring Magazine at only eleven years old, is planning to step back into the ring on August 12th inz Washington DC.

Canadian Junior Middleweight Adam Daranyi impressed in his third outing of 2017, knocking down a very game Andre Baker three times en route to a third round stoppage. Daranyi’s range of talent was on display throughout the bout. Using his size, distance and reach to full advantage, the 22 year old Daranyi, who stands at 6’1″, floored his opponent with a left hook, a body shot, and a right hook en route to his stoppage victory.

“We are very excited about these two prospects,” said Victory Boxing Promotions’ Chris Middendorf. “They will both continue to be busy this summer and fall. Lee is coming back quickly in D.C. on August 12th, and Daranyi a couple weeks later in Virginia. They will both also be fighting multiple times in Philadelphia this fall.” Added Middendorf, “We will be announcing our new series there soon.”

DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT SIGNS TOP RATED LIGHTWEIGHT CONTENDER RICHARD COMMEY

New York City (August 1, 2017) DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT has signed top rated lightweight contender RICHARD COMMEY (25-2, 22 KOs), of Accra, Ghana, to an exclusive promotional contract it was announced today by its President LOU DIBELLA and Commey’s manager MICHAEL AMOO-BEDIAKO.

Commey formally signed the deal while in New York for last Saturday’s Adrien Broner vs. Mikey Garcia bout. He will remain in New York and train in Brooklyn under the tutelage of Andre Rozier and Gary Stark Sr.

Over the last year, Commey has been the recipient of two controversial decision losses. On September 9, 2016, the then-undefeated IBF mandatory challenger traveled to Reading, PA, to challenge also undefeated Robert Easter for the vacant IBF lightweight world title, losing a very close split decision by scores of 114-113, 112-115 and 113-114.

Three months later, Commey headed to Moscow, Russia, facing off against Denis Shafikov in an IBF lightweight world title eliminator. Although seeming to clearly win the majority of rounds, Commey would once again lose a split decision by scores of 116-112, 113-115 and 112-116.

Most recently, Commey fought in his native Accra, on March 11, 2017, winning a 12-round unanimous decision over Hedi Slimani to capture the vacant WBC International Silver lightweight title.

Commey is ranked #4 by the World Boxing Council and #6 by the International Boxing Federation.

Said DiBella about the signing, “I think Richard Commey is one of the top lightweights in the world and I’m very excited to work with him and his management. Richard’s two losses were both by split decision and, in my opinion, he won the Shafikov fight.

“Richard will be training in the New York Area now and will have better sparring for his future fights. We feel that he can win a world championship and will pursue that path for him.”

DiBella has previously worked with Ghana-based world champions Ike Quartey and Joshua Clottey.

Said the excited Commey, “It’s great to be back in the United States and I can’t wait to show everyone that I can be a world champion. I feel that I wasn’t treated fairly in my world title fight with Robert Easter and then with Denis Shafikov in the final eliminator in Russia.

“I want to thank Lou DiBella and DiBella Entertainment for showing faith and signing me. I also want to thank my manager Michael Amoo-Bediako for all the hard work he has done for me over the years and is still doing.”

Commey first turned heads in front of an American audience stopping Bahodir Mamadjonov in his US debut on May 22, 2015, in the eighth round in Las Vegas, NV.

Stated Bediako, “Lou and I have been talking since February prior to Richard’s fight in Ghana on March 11. After his victory, we ramped up the conversations and negotiations were very smooth to be honest. Lou and his team have been a pleasure to work with.”

EVANDER HOLYFIELD’S REAL DEAL SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT SIGNS TOP WELTERWEIGHT CONTENDER FREDRICK LAWSON!!!

New York City (August 1, 2017) Evander Holyfield’s Real Deal Sports and Entertainment has signed top welterweight contender Fredrick “El General Okunka” Lawson (25-1-0, 20 KO’s) to an exclusive promotional contract it was announced today by their COO, Eric Bentley and Fredrick’s manager Jacob Zwennes of Errol Hawk Sports Management of New Jersey in the United States.

Earlier this year, the heavy-handed Lawson returned to the ring with a plan to re-arrange the top of the 147lb. division. Coming off an extended layoff after losing to Kevin Bizier in an IBF final eliminator in November 2015, Lawson bounced back with a win over Sakima Mullings of Jamaica on March 11, 2017 to claim the WBC International Silver Welterweight title at the new Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Ghana.

Fredrick said, “I’m excited for the opportunity Real Deal Sports & Entertainment is providing me to aid my climb back to the top of the division. I am grateful for the trust they have placed in me and I intend to make them proud. Of course, this has all been made possible by the relentless efforts of my manager and father figure Jacob Zwennes of Errol Hawk Sports Management who has stood firmly beside me in support of my dreams and aspirations. I am ever so grateful for the hard work he has put into rejuvenating my career”.

“We want these young warriors from all over the world to know that if they put in the effort and keep working hard, there will come an opportunity,” said Hall-of-Famer and co-owner of Real Deal Sports & Entertainment, Evander Holyfield. “Fredrick can be a win or two away from a major opportunity and we believe that he will get there.”

Zwennes stated, “I knew I’ve found the perfect promoter for Fredrick soon after I engaged Eric Bentley of Real Deal Sports and Entertainment. Real Deal’s vision and road map was very aligned with Fredrick’s and we were both excited about embarking together on this journey in search of the world championship. IT’S ANOTHER ALL-LOCAL WAR AS WISE, JENKINS COLLIDE SEPT. 8 AT 2300 ARENA IN PHILLY

Philadelphia, PA—It may be just a six-round fight, but the match between North Philadelphia junior middleweights Isaiah Wise and Fred Jenkins, Jr., is sure to be treated by the fans like a main event when the fighters collide Friday evening, Sept. 8, at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia.

Topping the 10-bout card is an eight-round junior lightweight contest between Avery Sparrow, of Philadelphia, and former four-time Canadian national amateur champion Joey Laviolette, of Nova Scotia, Canada. First fight begins at 7.30 p.m.
Wise ( above left), 25, is a relative newcomer, having compiled a 5-1 record since turning pro early in 2016. He has scored three knockouts, losing only by decision to Philly-killer Roque Zapata, of Culpeper, VA.
In two fights this year against Wisconsin-based fighters, Wise got off the canvas to stop Jeffrey Wright in four rounds and he outpointed Mark Daniels over six.
Jenkins (above right), 30, is the veteran of the two, owning a 10-4 record since turning pro in 2011. He has scored three knockouts and he is managed and trained by his dad, Fred Jenkins, Sr., an ex-pro junior middleweight himself and a member of the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame as a trainer.
The biggest win on the resume of Jenkins, Jr. came in 2014 when he knocked out Jeremy Trussell, of Baltimore, MD, in four rounds at the 2300 Arena. He also has defeated Alex Sanchez, of Camden, NJ, and Ibrihim Shabazz, of Newark, NJ.
Wise has had all six of his professional fights at the 2300 Arena. Jenkins is 4-3 in the building.
In an era where Philadelphia fighters often balk at fighting each other, neither Wise nor Jenkins appear to have a problem with the match.
“Fighting someone from the same city doesn’t bother me at all,” said Wise. “This is a business and this fight will show me where I stand.”
Jenkins: “It’s all about winning. I’m trying to climb the ladder and if I beat Wise then I can get another shot at Zapata.”
Zapata, who fights Elijah Vines, of Philadelphia, on the same card, owns victories over both Wise and Jenkins, both by decision, both at the 2300 Arena.
The only other foe common to both Wise and Jenkins is James Robinson, of York, PA. Wise and Jenkins each defeated Robinson by decision, Wise over four rounds and Jenkins over six.
Seven additional bouts complete the Sept. 8 card. Among those featured will be welterweight Marcel Rivers, junior welterweight Victor Padilla and featherweight Crystian Peguero.

Derrick Webster looking for big fight; targeting George Groves

Atlantic City, New Jersey (August 1, 2017)–Super Middleweight contender Derrick Webster is looking to fight the elite of the division, but he first first must get by Lamar Harris in a scheduled eight-round bout that will headline a big night of boxing at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The show is promoted by Mis Downing Promotions and Square Ring Promotions.

Webster of Glassboro, New Jersey has a record of 23-1 with 12 knockouts.

Webster has been on a roll, and now he looks to continue his momentum against Harris.

“I really don’t know much about him. I just know that he knows that he is fighting me. I don’t know him, but I am sure he knows who I am,” said Webster.

Webster attributes his most recent success to a more active schedule as this will be his 3rd fight of this year and 5th fight in the last 14 months.

“The more that I fight, the more consistent that I am. When I had other people in charge of my career, I was fighting less frequent. Maybe fighting every six or seven months. Now I have been more active and that goes hand in hand with my performances. I was getting in the ring to trying shake off ring-rust and now I am going in there not worrying about that.”

Webster is not overlooking Harris, but He is looking to close of 2017 fighting higher level of opponents, and in 2018 looking for a big title shot.

“My target is WBA champion George Groves. I never wanted to face Harris. I wanted to fight guys with better records and for many reasons including opponents pricing themselves out, but guys won’t fight me. I do appreciate that Harris stepped up for the challenge so I respect him for that. Hopefully I can fight someone like Mike Tiberi next for a major regional title, then have my eye towards a world title in 2018.”
