HITZ BOXING RETURNS TO THE BELVEDERE CHICAGO: TOMMY ZBIKOWSKI COMEBACK CONTINUES

CHICAGO — June 13, 2016 — Hitz Boxing returns to Elk Grove on June 17th, where Tommy Zbikowski resumed his professional boxing career in April after five long years out of the squared circle. The former Notre Dame football legend shook off the ring rust with a four-round unanimous decision over Keith Jackson, before returning to the ring just three weeks later in Hammond, Indiana. His sensational first round knockout performance at the Horseshoe Casino on May 14th erased any doubt that he’d found his new calling as a professional prize fighter. The Chicago firefighter returns June 17th at Hitz Boxing’s Fight Night at the Belvedere in a four-round cruiserweight bout.

Bobby Hitz, founder and promoter of Hitz Boxing, Chicagoland’s longest-running promotion, is himself a former boxer and football player, and was inducted into the American Football Hall of Fame in 2015. “Tommy is a great guy to work with, and the fans love him,” said Hitz of the one-time Baltimore Raven. “He’s not just a flash in the pan. He won the Chicago Golden Gloves, which is no small feat. He can fight, he’s got a good team behind him, and we’re happy to be part of his return to boxing.”

Heavyweight Nick Mazurek (5-0, 5KO), who also made quick work of his opponent at the Horseshoe Casino May 14th, will return in a four round bout. The young fighter is turning heads with his quick hands and powerful punches. He’s joined on the card by fellow Chicagoan David “Diesel” Latoria (10-0, 5KO), in a separate heavyweight contest, who will step into the ring for the first time since defeating Edward Gutierrez in 2012.

Rounding out the card, Jaime Herrera (13-3-1, 7KO) will make his first appearance in 2016 in a six-round bout at welterweight. Flyweight Javier Rivera (2-0, 0KO) stays busy at flyweight, and light heavyweight amateur sensation Martez McGregor will make his debut in front of his hometown crowd.

Doors to The Belvedere Elk Grove open at 6:00 on June 17th, and first bell is at 7:00. Tickets are priced $110 and $40, and are available at HitzBoxing.com.

DORAN: IT’S TIME TO TEST EUBANK’S CHIN

Tom Doran believes he will be the first man to test Chris Eubank Jr’s chin when he challenges Eubank for the British Middleweight title at The O2 in London on June 25, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Doran’s power was on display in his last outing in April when the unbeaten Welshman climbed off the canvas in the opening round to floor Irishman Luke Keeler before the end of the first and flatten him in the second.

That explosive win over the talented Dubliner made it four KO wins on the trot for the 28 year old, and Doran says he has the power to cause Eubank Jr real problems as he defends the Lord Lonsdale belt for the first time.

“I don’t think that Eubank Jr’s punch resistance has been tested yet,” said Doran. “I know that I have the power to hurt him in the fight and I’m going to lay it all on the line. Fighting for the British title is what I dreamed of doing when I turned pro and I intend to take it with both hands.

“It’s a huge chance for me and I can’t wait, to be on the same show as the biggest draw in British boxing right now in Anthony Joshua is just phenomenal, and I can’t thank Eddie Hearn and Dave Coldwell enough for making it happen.

“Eubank Jr. is a great fighter, you can’t take that away from him, but I’ll be working to a game plan and I am confident I can rip the title from him. He’s number three in the world, that speaks for itself, but taking that scalp and getting into the world rankings myself is just another incentive in this fight, it’s a great springboard

“He’s got chinks in his armour and I plan to make the most of them. I’m not going to broadcast them, but he’s a man with two hands like me and I intend to show the best of me. I’m fighting unbeaten fighters all the time and beating them and there’s not many people at Middleweight that are doing that.”

Doran and Eubank Jr clash on a huge night in Greenwich as Anthony Joshua MBE makes the first defence of his IBF World Heavyweight title against unbeaten American Dominic Breazeale.

George Groves and Martin Murray meet in an eliminator for the WBA World Super-Middleweight title, John Wayne Hibbert clashes with Andrea Scarpa for the vacant WBC Silver Super-Lightweight title, Brixton Heavyweight Dillian Whyte returns to the fray, unbeaten Super-Flyweight star Kal Yafai is in action, Olympic bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo continues his comeback from injury, Conor Benn fights for the third time in the paid ranks and there’s a debut for Team GB star Felix Cash.

JOHN MOLINA OUTPOINTS RUSLAN PROVODNIKOV; DEMETRIUS ANDRADE DELIVERS STATEMENT KO VICTORY AND DEJAN ZLATICANIN WINS 135-POUND TITLE SATURDAY ON SHOWTIME®

John Molina_Harney
VERONA, N.Y. (June 11, 2016) – John Molina outpunched Ruslan Provodnikov in an all-action fight by revealing a new weapon in his arsenal, a sharp and steady jab. Molina captured a surprising unanimous decision in a 12-round junior welterweight bout that featured fierce exchanges throughout Saturday on SHOWTIME from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y.

In the co-feature on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING, Demetrius Andrade delivered a statement, knockout victory over Willie Nelson, staking his claim as one of the world’s best in the stacked 154-pound division. In the opening bout, Dejan Zlaticanin knocked out Franklin Mamani to earn the vacant 135-pound world title and make history as the first native of Montenegro to win a world championship.

Molina and Provodnikov promised a war, and they delivered. But what surprised many was the volume of punches and effective jabbing from Molina (29-6, 23 KOs), a veteran more known for engaging in brawls than his boxing prowess. Molina threw nearly 1,110 total punches, including 643 jabs compared to just 265 for Provodnikov, who failed to close the range on his naturally bigger opponent.

“We knew we had to outwork Provodnikov,” said the 33-year-old Covina, Calif., native. “It was a fight that we needed. Ruslan Provodnikov is a very notable name. He’s a tough, tough guy. He kept moving forward.

“People don’t realize I had my amateur career in the pros, and now it’s my time to step out and shine. I have a new trainer. Shadeed (Suluki) showed me how to throw punches and use my power.”

Molina vs. Provodnikov was scored 116-112, 117-111, 115-113.

“I think it (the scorecard) was self-explanatory. A fighter knows when they won a fight. I won that fight and it was going to be hard to take it away from me.”

The judges agreed on nine of the 12 rounds, a relatively high percentage according to SHOWTIME analyst Steve Farhood.

“Today the decision was the right one,” Provnikov said. “Molina won the fight – he was better tonight. Everything was scored the way it should have been.

“We expected that he was going to box, he was going to move. We expected him to do that. It wasn’t my night. Maybe I don’t have the same hungriness as before. I’m not going to make excuses, but it was hard for me to find my groove tonight.

“I don’t think it’s that (the layoff). There are no excuses. I lost the fight tonight. I couldn’t find the hungriness. I have to sit down and think of why that happened.

“I’m sorry if I disappointed.”

Undefeated former world champion Demetrius Andrade put on a masterful performance against top-10 ranked Willie Nelson, flooring the former world title challenger four times including once in the opening round and emphatically in the final round to close the show (TKO 12, 1:38).

With the win, Nelson, who landed a staggering 57 percent of his power punches in just his second fight in two years, moved one step closer to earning another shot at a title fight. Andrade, who never lost his belt in the ring, is now the second mandatory challenger for the WBC Super Welterweight World Title, currently held by Jermell Charlo.

“I’m coming to get those belts,” said the 28-year-old Andrade. “People can’t run no more. The best have to fight the best. I’m coming for them.

“I came back, I’m stronger. Me and my team worked hard. We figured out what we need to do to take it to the next level. I’m ready for the Charlo brothers. I want them.”

Andrade was on his way to pitching a shutout, delivering a statement performance after months of frustration from “boxing politics.” The former WBO 154-pound champion targeted the head and the body of Nelson, relying on a steady diet of combos to floor the 6-foot-3 Nelson in the first, 11th and twice in the 12th.

“I’m young enough and my reaction time is still going,” Andrade said. “Willie Nelson is a true champion. He pushed me to the limit where I had to figure out what punches to throw. But I put the pieces of the puzzle together and got the knockout, baby.

Nelson, of Cleveland, dropped to 25-3-1 with 15 KOs.

“He was tough,” Nelson said. “I was forcing my shots too much. I felt like I was getting back into the fight, but he was crafty and mobile.

“I am ready for whatever is next and, despite what happened tonight, I am here to stay. My career won’t end like this.”

In the opening bout of the SHOWTIME telecast, Zlaticanin blasted late-replacement Mamani with a third round TKO (:54) to win the vacant WBC Lightweight World Championship.

The 32-year-old Zlaticanin (18-0, 10 KOs) became the first native of the Southeastern European country of Montenegro to capture a world championship.

“I’m very proud. I made Montenegro proud,” Zlaticanin said. “I want to thank my fans that came to support me. I think I made my country proud. I think they will be delighted. I don’t think they know what this means, but in a few days they will know.”

The southpaw Zlaticanin pounced with a powerful straight left that had Mamani in trouble just seconds into the fight. The Bolivian, who was also aiming to become the first native of his homeland to win a title, survived the round but he was in trouble again in the third. Zlaticanin staggered with an overhand left and followed with a series of unanswered blows that forced referee Charlie Fitch to halt the contest with Mamani (21-3-1, 12 KOs) defenseless against the ropes.

“I knew that I would knock him out. He stood too close to me.

After the fight, Zlaticanin called out Jorge Linares, the WBC Lightweight “Champion in Recess”, who pulled out of a tentatively scheduled match with Zlaticanin due to an injury.

“I want Linares next. He can’t run from me anymore.

In undercard action on SHO EXTREME, Willie Monroe Jr. (20-2, 6 KOs) won a unanimous decision (96-92, 95-93, 99-89) over John Thompson (17-2, 6 KOs) in a 10-round middleweight matchup of former world title challengers. Monroe scored two knockdowns, one in the second and another with a straight right jab in the fifth.

In the opening bout on SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME, Russian heavyweight Andrey Fedosov (29-3, 24 KOs) scored four knockdowns en route to a sixth round TKO (1:33) of Mario Heredia (11-2, 9 KOs, 1-2 in WSB).

Saturday’s event from Turning Stone Resort Casino was promoted by Banner Promotions and DiBella Entertainment.

Saturday’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader replays Monday, June 13 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME EXTREME. The SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME telecast replays Tuesday, June 14 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on SHO EXTREME.

Brian Custer hosted the SHOWTIME telecast, with Mauro Ranallo calling the action, Hall of Fame analyst Al Bernstein and former two-time world champion Paulie Malignaggi commentating and Jim Gray reporting. Barry Tompkins and Steve Farhood called. the SHOWTIME EXTREME action. In the Spanish simulcast, Alejandro Luna called the blow-by-blow and former world champion Raul Marquez served as color commentator. Star Boxing Long Island Pair Continue on Road to Success Next Week: Cletus Seldin and Joe Smith, Jr. in Main Events

Cletus Seldin (640x360)
New York, June 13- The “Long Island Winding Road” to success continues for two Star Boxing fighters this week. The pair of proud pugilists and products of The Paramount – Cletus Seldin and Joe Smith, Jr. -hope to continue their climb to the top of the heap for promoter Joe DeGuardia.

On Friday night (June 17), the undefeated, WBC Silver International Champion and WBC World #6-ranked Junior Welterweight contender Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin (18-0, 15 KO’s Long Island, NY), squares off against Mexican brawler Jesus Selig (19-3-1, 12 KO’s Douglas, Arizona) at The Paramount in Huntington, New York in the 10-round Junior Welterweight affair. The main event headlines the 24th edition DeGuardia’s popular “Rockin Fights” series.
Just one night later on Saturday (June 18), the Long Island knockout artist Joe “The Irish Bomber” Smith Jr. (21-1, 17 KOs) makes his national television debut against another battle-tested power-puncher, Andrzej Fonfara (28-3, 16 KOs), when they collide in a 10-round main event on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC from UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

Seldin, the Patchogue product fighting out of Shirley, Long Island, has been superb in compiling an unblemished 18-0 mark, with 15 of his triumphs coming via highlight reel knockout . Smith Jr., who grew up in Shirley, and now fights out of Mastic, has registered 17 of 21 career wins by way of KO. Both knockout artists are on similar paths to that of another Star Boxing-promoted fighter, Chris Algieri, who used The Paramount as a springboard to a world championship. Fighting predominantly in the Metropolitan area, four of Smith, Jr.’s last five fights were at The Paramount, while Seldin has won 10 straight and 15 out of 16 at the popular Long Island venue.

More on Smith, Jr. vs. Fonfara: The broadcast begins at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT and will feature a bantamweight world title rematch between current champion Juan Carlos Payano (17-0, 8 KOs) take on three-time U.S. Olympian Rau’shee “Nuke” Warren (13-1, 4 KOs) as they continue their unfinished business that began in August 2015 when Payano won a narrow split-decision to retain his title. Also featured on the telecast is rising star Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (14-0, 10 KOs) who faces powerful Mexican Daniel Sandoval (37-3, 34 KOs) in a super welterweight contest.

“I’ve been working very hard and for many years towards an opportunity like this,” said Smith Jr. “I am grateful to Joe DeGuardia and Star Boxing for helping to get me here. This fight is going to change my life and no one is going to keep me from winning.”

“I think that Smith is a great challenge for me and I do not underestimate him,” said Fonfara. “He is young and hungry and he wants to use this fight and my name to show the world his skills. He’s coming to Chicago for victory and glory. I have to show him that I am stronger, more experienced and most importantly, a smarter fighter. I have to win this fight because it will open the door for me to rematch Adonis Stevenson.”

“I am truly looking forward to this main event,” said DeGuardia. “Smith and Fonfara are both very exciting fighters and I expect a thrilling war. Their styles will have Chicago rocking with enthusiastic Irish fans for Smith and Polish fans for Fonfara. The electric atmosphere will be a treat to everyone watching on NBC and I expect big things from Joe Smith Jr.”

“Warriors Boxing is excited to bring PBC on NBC to the Windy City,” said Leon Margules, President of Warriors Boxing. “Chicago’s favorite son, Andrzej Fonfara, always thrills fans with his non-stop fighting style. Joe Smith Jr. has been destroying his competition in New York and also brings a fan friendly ‘seek-and-destroy’ style to the fight. The main event should be explosive.”

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Warriors Boxing and Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, are priced at $201, $101, $61 and $41, not including applicable service charges, and are on sale now. To charge by phone with a major credit card, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000 or UIC Pavilion Box Office at (312) 413-5740. Tickets are also available by visiting the UIC Pavilion Box Office (Thursday or Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.).

Fonfara returns to the ring after defeating Nathan Cleverly in October at UIC Pavilion in a fight that garnered Fight of the Year consideration and saw a record number of punches landed (936) and thrown (2524) for a light heavyweight fight in CompuBox history. Prior to that, the 28-year-old became the first person to stop Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and lost a decision to world champion Adonis Stevenson in a fight that saw both men hit the canvas. From Warsaw, Poland but training out of Chicago, Fonfara will fight in the Windy City for the 20th time when he enters the ring in primetime on June 18.

Representing Long Island, New York, Smith Jr. will bring his heavy hands to primetime as he looks for his 16th straight victory on June 18. The 26-year-old was a highly decorated amateur who won the 2008 New York Golden Gloves with a victory over Seanie Monaghan. A member of the Local 66 Laborers Union between fights and the oldest of eight siblings, Smith Jr. picked up his most impressive victory of his career so far when he defeated veteran Will Rosinsky in a hotly contested battle in Brooklyn. He followed it up with a second round stoppage of Fabiano Pena in April and is set for his toughest challenge in June.

More on Seldin vs. Selig: Seldin, who has continually climbed the ranks of the Junior Welterweight division, will be appearing for the 15th time at the Paramount. Seldin has become a must-see attraction for his all action fights and tremendous punching power. The Hebrew Hammer captured the WBC title on December 20, 2014, stopping the very tough Bayan Jargal in nine rounds, and has successfully defended the championship three times. In his last outing at The Paramount on March 5, Seldin returned from shoulder surgery and picked right up where he left off by destroying Orlando Vasquez in the opening round.
Selig is coming off two straight knockout wins and has crossed gloves with world rated fighters Sadam Ali and John Jackson as well as top prospect Jose Ramirez.
Says DeGuardia: “Cletus Seldin is becoming a major force in the already loaded Junior Welterweight division. His ferocious style has attracted droves of fans and on June 17th we expect the same as he faces a tough task when he battles Jesus Selig, who hopes to upset the applecart. I expect another exciting night of fights at The Paramount, as has become the tradition with the Rockin Fights series”.
The undercard features a bevy of top local prospects. In another junior welterweight clash, Woodhaven’s undefeated Danny Gonzalez (11-0-1, 5 KO’s) squares off against Curtis Morton (4-5-4) of Myrtle Beach in an eight-rounder. Sweden’s Naim Terbunja (7-1) takes on Lanny Dardar (3-5-2, 1 KO) of Louisiana in a six round contest. Two Elmont, Long Island will fighters showcase their talents on the home turf in four-round bouts. Terell Bostic (1-0, 1 KO) comes off an outstanding first round KO debut to face Miguel Gloria (1-2) of Albuquerque; and unbeaten Tyrone James (2-0, 1 KO) battles New York City’s Kasif Muhammad (0-2). Brooklyn’s Laurend Stewart (2-0, 1 KO) takes on another Albuquerque import in Daniel Flores (0-2).

Tickets are on sale now by calling Star Boxing (718 823-2000) or visiting www.starboxing.com, The Paramount Box Office (631 673-7300), or Ticketmaster at ticketmaster.com (1 800 745-3000).

Experts comment on The Paramount
“Joe has a magical formula at The Paramount,” says former heavyweight contender Gerry Cooney. “As a former boxer, I believe that really helps him. He understands the fighters, and watches out for them. He makes these guys fight durable guys. He and matchmaker Ron Katz are a great combination. They put them in tough fights. The Paramount is sold out every time at the Paramount, so the fighters have also been able to build the fan base.”
Former NYSAC Randy Gordon, now a boxing commentator and radio host, echoes Cooney’s sentiment. “As a former boxer himself on a high level, Joe understands the boxer’s mentality. Building a fighter’s career is not about one fight, it’s a process.”

Joseph Elegele Scores Hard Fought Unanimous Decision Victory Over Phil Lo Greco In Main Event Of Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round On Bounce From The Lakeland Center in Lakeland, FL

LAKELAND, FL. (June 13, 2016) – Exciting super welterweight Joseph Elegele (16-2 11 KOs) showed his strength and power Sunday night in the main event of Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round on Bounce TV as he went toe-to-toe with Phil Lo Greco (27-3, 15 KOs) for 10 hard-fought rounds from The Lakeland Center in Lakeland, FL. Both combatants left it all in the ring, exchanging punches throughout the bout with close rounds that left the audience wanting more.

Elegele of nearby Winter Haven, FL started the bout coming forward, slightly stunning Toronto’s Lo Greco with several flurries of punches that set the tone for a hard fought back and forth battle. The action picked up in round two as Lo Greco came in on the attack early in the round, pinning Elegele against the ropes and continuing to pepper him with punches to the body and the head.

Despite being taken aback by the attack, Elegele came roaring back in the final seconds of round two and out of the corner to kick off round three. Lo Greco remained in the pocket, not afraid to continue to throw wide left hooks as the fighters traded punches back and forth.

As the fight continued, Lo Greco backed Elegele up against the ropes, smothering him with punches despite Elegele’s four-inch height advantage. But round six was completely controlled by Elegele as he threw a combination of bruising punches that very well could have sent Lo Greco to the canvas. However Lo Greco remained in the pocket. In the 10th and final round, Lo Greco came out strong, outworking Elegele, but with less than 20 seconds to go in the bout, Elegele stunned Lo Greco with a barrage of punches up against the ropes. Judges scored the bout 97-95 and 96-94 twice, all for Elegele, the winner by unanimous decision.

The second televised bout saw two former amateur standouts Dauren Yeleussinov (5-0-1, 4 KOs) of Kazakhstan, who now fights out of Brooklyn, and Devaun Lee (7-2-1, 3 KOs) of Queens, NY in an eight-round middleweight bout that ended in a split draw. Yeleussinov wasted no time in the first round as he kicked off the fight by throwing multiple left hands, one to the body and two to the head of Lee.

Lee escaped the round unscathed and despite spending the majority of the second round against the ropes, he was able to let his hands go and catch Yeleussinov with multiple shots. The 30-year-old Yeleussinov went on the attack in the sixth round, pinning Lee against the ropes, once again with a barrage of punches. Judges scored the bout at 79-73 for Yeleussinov, 78-74 for Lee and 76-76, ending the bout in a split draw.

In the opening televised bout, Australian prospect Steve Lovett (15-1, 12 KOs) battled Craig Baker (17-1, 13 KOs) in a 10-round light heavyweight showdown that ended with an explosive knockout. Baker of Baytown, TX was sent to the canvas in round four following a big left hook thrown by Lovett, but Baker was the more active fighter throughout the fight as he was up on all three of the judge’s scorecards going into the eighth and final round. With only three seconds to go in the bout, Baker sent Lovett to the canvas with a hard right hand that ended the bout.

Here is what the participants had to say about their respective performances Sunday night:

JOSEPH ELEGELE
“I wasn’t surprised because he’s a tough fighter, he’s a Canadian and Canadian fighters are tough. He came to fight. It was a good fight.

“It’s hard for anyone to find an answer for a straight left, but I was surprised he kept walking through it.

“I hope this win puts me on the next level. I’m ready for the top fighters. I know there are some things I can work on, but I am ready for the top fighters.

“I’m not sure what’s up with my left hand. It hurt me when I was throwing it, but I’m a warrior. I’ve been through too much in life to let a little left hand hurt me. It could be falling off and I’m still going to throw it.”

PHIL LO GRECO
“It was his hometown. The score could have gone either way. I hurt him in the second round. He was out and the ref could have stopped the fight. That is no excuse. I will fight anyone, anywhere.

“I felt I was pushing the fight. I am disappointed in the decision.

“It’s up to the fans if they want to see me again. People see that I will fight anywhere and anyplace. I enjoyed tonight.”

DEVAUN LEE
“I don’t agree with the draw, I think I won the fight. I would have been comfortable with a split decision. He worked, but I landed clean shots and I landed heavier punches. I feel like I won the fight. He has power, but he wasn’t powerful enough to stop me.

“Next, I’m ready for whatever they put in front of me. I would do it again.”

CRAIG BAKER
“Lovett is a strong guy and he’s a hell of a competitor. He came to work and he tested me, so it is what it is, man.

“This is awesome, man. This is what I sweat and kill myself in the gym for. This win means the world to me.

“He never hurt me tonight. We stayed patient I do what we do. This is the biggest win of my career, but I won’t rest until I get a title.

“I’ll fight whoever next. I’ll be back in the gym soon and getting ready for whoever the put in front of me next.

“Fighting on a Premier Boxing Champions card is amazing. I’m grateful to get the opportunity and I hope to be back on PBC fighting again.”

The fight card was promoted by King’s Promotions and sponsored by Corona Extra: La Cerveza Mas Fina.

MOISES “CHUCKY” FLORES “I want Guillermo Rigondeaux next”

WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA (June 12, 2016) – Last night at the Ramatex Factory in Windhoek, Namibia, Mexico’s super-bantamweight standout, Moises “Chucky” Flores (25-0, 17 KOs) remained undefeated with a 12-round unanimous decision over hometown hero, Paulus Ambunda (24-2, 10 KOs). With the victory Flores captured the IBO championship and retained his WBA interim title.

Flores, who hails from Guadalajara, Mexico, controlled the action from the opening round. Flores scored three knockdowns throughout the fight using superior boxing skills while applying pressure to keep Ambunda off balance. As Flores mounted a substantial lead he never looked back. Scorecards read 115-110, 115-111 and 114-111, all in favor for Flores.

“It’s never an easy task going into someone’s hometown and getting the victory,” said Moises “Chucky” Flores. “I had complete faith in myself, as did my team, fighting Ambunda in his hometown. We knew we had to dominate the fight to win on the judges’ scorecards. He’s a durable fighter with a lot of heart but I was not going to be denied tonight. I want to be recognized as the next great fighter from Mexico. I want Guillermo Rigondeaux next.”

Guided by Pro Box Management’s Gary Jonas and Henry Rivalta, a fight with Rigondeaux is on the horizon. Currently, Flores is the mandatory challenger to fight Rigondeaux, who is the current WBA Super Champion at super-bantamweight.

“Flores once again proved he’s an elite fighter winning in Ambunda’s backyard.” said Gary Jonas. “Now we are focused on getting in the ring with Rigondeaux. Flores is the WBA interim champion and he’s hungry to become the super champion. Right now we are in talks with team Rigondeaux to get this fight made. Chucky is ready to take over the 122-pound division.”

Isaac Lowe keen to follow in the footsteps of “inspirational” Tyson Fury and win world title

LONDON (10 JUNE) Commonwealth and English featherweight champion Isaac Lowe will next appear on July 9 at the Manchester Arena, as part of the undercard to Tyson Fury’s world heavyweight title defence against Wladimir Klitschko, and admits he wouldn’t be boxing at all if it wasn’t for the influence and guidance of the best heavyweight on the planet.

Lowe, unbeaten in 13 pro fights, has looked up to Fury throughout the course of his own four-year professional career, even turning to him during difficult times, and says he owes him a lot.

“Many times I’ve been down and thought about giving up this sport – throwing it in – but Tyson has been the one who has come and picked me back up and given me the encouragement to keep going,” Lowe explains. “He has got me back in the gym and sometimes taken me away training to freshen things up.

“A lot of people just judge him based on what they see on television. But, trust me, get him off camera and he’s a completely guy altogether. He’s always been someone I have respected and looked up to. He’s down-to-earth, kind, funny, likes a laugh. He’s like a big baby, to tell you the truth. Sometimes you’ve got to tell him what to do. He gets carried away. He’s also inspirational and is a teacher. That’s the role he has played in my life. I wouldn’t be where I am now in boxing if it wasn’t for Tyson.

“Now we’re both on the same show together and we’re going to make history. It’s going to be a night to remember for both of us. It will probably be a bit emotional, too.”

Last time out, in February, the ‘Westgate Warrior’ used a lot of what Tyson has taught him over the years to impressively dominate and then stop Marco McCullough in a vacant Commonwealth title clash.

“Everyone wrote me off before that fight,” Lowe says. “They said Marco would be too big and strong and that I’d get knocked out. Nobody gave me a chance. But I went in there and showed people what I’m capable of. I showed them I’m not just a boxer. I’ve also got power and can hurt people. It was the best I’ve ever boxed. I hope I convinced a few people with the performance; don’t rule me out, there’s a lot more to come.”

Lowe seemingly isn’t content to win just Commonwealth and English title honours. He wants more. He wants other belts. And he won’t stop until his dream comes true.

“I’m not one for calling out fighters,” he says. “All I want is that world title and I’ll go down whatever route I have to go down in order to get it. If it means going down the British title route, I’ll do it. If it means going in another direction, I’ll do that instead. I’ll go where the money is. It’s a business, at the end of the day, and I’ve got to provide for a family. That’s part of the reason why I want that world title so badly.

“The first time I went into the gym at seven years of age I never thought I’d be a Commonwealth and English champion at 22 after 13 fights. You don’t think like that. But I always went to bed and dreamed of one day becoming a world champion.”

NIEVES-MOJICA NABO TITLE FIGHT HEADLINES WFC 53 PROFESSIONAL BOXING IN PENNSYLVANIA

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA – June 10, 2016 – Next Saturday, June 18th, World Fighting Championships raises the bar at the prestigious Meadows Racetrack and Casino, with a potential bantamweight fight of the year candidate between Cleveland boxer Antonio Nieves (15-0, 8KO) and Dallas’ Oscar Mojica (9-1, 1KO) for the WBO NABO Bantamweight Championship. A former kickboxer, Nieves will be the hometown fighter next weekend, returning to Pittsburgh, where he’s fought several of his professional bouts. Nieves looks to secure the NABO title and continue the momentum that has seen him fight three times since a televised bout versus fellow undefeated fighter Stephen Young (14-0-3) that ended in a draw on the undercard of Andre Ward versus Paul Smith last summer. Mojica will be coming to spoil his plans. He is coming off a unanimous decision win over previously undefeated Johnny Determan (10-1, 8KO) at The Bomb Factory in Dallas in January.

In the co-main event bout, Pittsburgh’s Morgan “Big Chief” Fitch (16-0-1, 7KO) faces Victor Kpadenou (10-10, 5KO) a 6-round middleweight contest. Fitch, who made his debut in 2010, returns to his home in Pittsburgh to fight for the first time since his second professional bout. Fitch gained notoriety in boxing circles last April, when Roy Jones, Jr. mentioned him as a potential opponent for Gennady Golovkin after Golovkin’s dominant performance versus Dominic Wade.

The card also features a female bout between Shianne Gist and Gabrielle “Gabinator” Holloway. Both women are making their debut in a four round bout at welterweight. Gist, who is widely considered boxing’s next “it” girl, comes to the ring with a 2014 Pennsylvania State Golden Gloves Championship in her amateur trophy case, but will be contending with a very tough opponent in MMA fighter Holloway.

Rounding out the seven-bout card, Eric Palmer faces Travis McClaren in a four round, welterweight bout, Josh Fisher battles Rick Morais over four rounds at super middleweight, and Amonte Eberhardt appears in a 4 round welterweight contest.

“We had such a great reception in our Pennsylvania debut in April. We sold out the venue and had a great crowd for our milestone 50th event,” said WFC Promoter Matt McGovern. “We’ve been very lucky to have partnered with some great fighters and teams here in Pennsylvania, and we’re excited to do it again. Nieves-Mojica is a great fight, that has all the makings of a fight of the year candidate, and it’s an honor to bring it to Pennsylvania Boxing fans, and to the Meadows Racetrack and Casino.”

Tickets are priced at $100, $50, and $25, and are available along with VIP tables via the WFC website at www.worldfightingchampionships.com.

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. on fight night. First bell is at 7:00 p.m.

POUND-FOR-POUND SUPERSTAR RIGONDEAUX DEFENDS WBA TITLE AGAINST DICKENS

Rigondeaux_Looknongyantoy_140719_001a
One of the world’s top pound-for-pound boxing stars Guillermo Rigondeaux (16-0, 10 KOs) will fight in Britain for the first time on Saturday 16th July at the Cardiff Ice Arena when he defends his WBA Super-Bantamweight World Championship against Merseyside hero and number 13 rated WBA super-bantamweight Jazza Dickens (22-1, 7 KOs), live and exclusive on BoxNation.

The Cuban megastar, renowned worldwide for his devastating hand speed and lightening quick reactions, takes on Dickens in a true David versus Goliath showdown and is a fantastic addition to what is already a mouth-watering card.

Undefeated Rigondeaux, who fights out of Miami, Florida, is regarded as the world’s best super-bantamweight and the dangerous 35 year-old is the man Carl Frampton has chosen to avoid for so long. “El Chacal”, a two-time Olympic Champion, unified the WBA title with the WBO belt when he outpointed Nonito Donaire in April 2013.

Rigondeaux, who’s fought in America, Mexico, Ireland, China and Japan is looking forward to showcasing his skills on the these shores for the first time and promises to give fans a real eye-catching display.

“I am excited to announce my next fight against Jazza Dickens in the UK on July 16th. I look forward to seeing all of the great fans of the sport in the UK and giving them an unforgettable performance. It’s unfortunate this fight could not happen sooner as planned but thanks to my team, we are now prepared to put on a great show.”

He added: “I would like to thank Frank Warren, Roc Nation, as well as Caribe Promotions for putting this fight together. I would also like to thank Dickens for being a warrior, stepping up and getting in the ring, as there are not many who are courageous enough to do so. Many fighters like Carl Frampton would rather vacate their titles than face me in the ring. We are thrilled for this opportunity and are ready to give a legendary performance for all of the UK fans who have shown such strong support and love for the sport.”

In a real ‘Rocky’ story Dickens heads into the fight as the massive underdog against Rigondeaux, but has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to rip up the script and catapult himself into the world’s elite by defeating the Havana hitman.

Dickens, 22-1-0 7 KO’s, holds the British Super-Bantamweight title and is currently on a red-hot six-fight winning streak since suffering his first career loss to Kid Galahad back in 2013. Everton Red Triangle man Dickens has an opportunity to write himself into the history books by becoming the first Liverpool fighter to hold a WBA world title.

The chirpy Scouser is a local hero with his down to earth, jack-the-lad, character, but has a steely determination to upset the odds on the biggest night of his life.

“People have already told me that I have no chance of beating him but when I look in another man’s eyes I can see he’s just the same as me. I’m a man and he’s a man; we both feel courage and we both feel fear. On the night we’ll be stepping in the ring as equals and I believe I have what it takes to beat him; I wouldn’t have taken the fight if I didn’t,” said Dickens.

“I’ve always said things happen for a reason and this proves it. It was disappointing the fight didn’t go ahead last time but this time it’s for a world title; I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity. Fights like this don’t come around every day so I’ve grabbed it with both hands.

“It’s been my childhood dream to be the best in the world and this to me is a golden opportunity to become the best by beating Rigondeaux. Becoming the first Liverpool boxer to win a WBA world title would be a huge honour.”

A talent-stacked undercard sees British and Commonwealth Champion Super Bradley Skeete make the fifth defence of his WBO European Welterweight title; Baggies banger Tommy Langford defends his WBO Inter-Continental belt; Southampton’s red-hot Joe Pigford looks to extend his unbeaten run to eleven fights; Welshmen Craig Evans, Alex Hughes and Jay Harris all look to impress in front of their home crowd. ‘The Mexican’ Jamie Conlan will fight over eight rounds.

Tickets are priced at £35, £40, £70, £100, £150 and £200 are available from:

LOS ANGELES (June 10, 2016) – Golden Boy Promotions and CharityVision, a Utah-based non-profit providing medical equipment, clinics, vision screenings, eye surgeries, and training to doctors in poverty-stricken areas across the globe, have added top talent to round out an entertaining undercard for the second annual Fight Night fundraiser tomorrow, Saturday, June 11 in Salt Lake City, UT. The event is open to the press.

Boxing legend, ten-time world champion in six weight classes and Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya and host of “Extra” and boxing enthusiast Mario Lopez will headline the 2016 event. Golden Boy Promotions top prospects D’Mitirus “Big Meech” Ballard (13-0, 9 KOs), Joshua “The Professor” Franco (5-0, 3 KOs) and David Mijares (1-0) will showcase their skills for the crowd in three entertaining undercard bouts that will precede the main event.

Washington, D.C.’s Ballard will participate in an eight-round light heavyweight bout against Ernesto “Gatti” Berrospe (11-8, 6 KOs) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; San Antonio, Texas resident Franco will face Sam Rodriguez (4-1, 3 KOs) of the Bronx, New York in a bantamweight bout scheduled for six-rounds; and California-native Mijares will make his second professional appearance in the ring to take on Cory “Vicious” Vom Baur (2-4) of Vancouver, Wash. in a four-round welterweight bout.

Salt Lake City, Utah 84116
Date: Saturday, June 11, 2016

Time: 6:30 p.m. MT; doors open to media at 6:00 p.m. MT

A professional since 2013, the 23 year-old undefeated Ballard has executed every opponent he has faced utilizing his powerful punches and heavy hits most recently facing Fabiano “Pitbull” Pena in December 2015 and Leosvy Mayedo in March 2016. On June 11, Ballard will make his first appearance in Utah and will be focused once again to secure the victory against his opponent Findley.

A professional since 2006, Ernesto “Gatti” Berrospe has slowly climbed the ranks in the light heavyweight division taking on tough opponents along the way. 2015 was a busy year for Berrospe as he fought three times in the U.S., and went up against Paul Mendez twice in January and April and Rob Brant in July. Berrospe was most recently seen in the ring against Gerrado Esquivel in January 2016, defeating the fighter in the fourth round via technical knockout. Berrospe will be looking to keep the momentum going when he takes on the tough prospect D’Mitrius Ballard on June 11.

Franco, who made his debut less than a year ago as a new Golden Boy fighter on the August 6 edition of the popular LA FIGHT CLUB series in Los Angeles, defeating Temoatzin Landeros via split decision, and quickly followed up with a victory over Saul “Bebe” Hernandez at the October installment. He ended 2015 on a high note, with a first round knockout victory over Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico’s Leonard Reyes in December. Franco has stayed active in 2016, having fought twice previously this year and obtained victories once by knockout and another via unanimous decision.

Having just fought less than one month ago, Sam Rodriguez and the pride of the Bronx, NY, is ready to get right back in on the action in an all-out bantamweight battle scheduled to go six rounds against San Antonio, TX’s Joshua Franco. At twenty-six years old, this fighter is on the heels of his biggest victory yet after defeating up and coming Ricardo Espinoza via unanimous decision last month and welcomes taking on Franco in the ring this Saturday.
Some fighters are made in the gym. The 19-year old David Mijares was seemingly born into the sport. As Mijares’ father worked with legendary musician Bob Dylan, his pregnant mother visited the boxing gym and her water broke. David wasn’t delivered in the gym, but as he grew up, it was his second home and he would even put on gloves and do drills as a toddler. By the age of 12, he began competing, going on to compile a 57-12 record as an amateur. Among his accomplishments were three National PAL Championships, a 2015 Golden Gloves title, and a Bronze medal in the 2015 USA National Championships. Even more impressively, he did it all while excelling in his studies and even playing the Euphonium for the nationally-ranked orchestra at Santa Monica High School. Mijares made his professional debut with a spectacular win on the Canelo-Khan undercard on May 7 defeating Omar Reyes via unanimous decision. He will return to the ring for the second time in his professional career on June 11 to face Cory Vom Baur.

Opening up the Charity Vision fight night, welterweight warrior Cory “Vicious” Vom Baur of Vancouver, Wash. will step back in the ring to take on David Mijares, newly signed to Golden Boy Promotions, in a four-round welterweight bout. With his first fight of 2016, fight fans can expect Vom Baur to be coming in hot and heavy to secure the night’s first victory by way of his fists and fury.

This year’s black-tie event, which is using the hashtag #givesight25, is expected to raise $1 million, allowing CharityVision to perform 40,000 sight-restoring surgeries. At an average cost of $25, one person’s sight can be restored with a simple procedure. For about the same cost as lunch with a friend, a mother can see her children for the first time, a family can be lifted out of poverty because sight brings new opportunities, and hope can be brought back to families and communities. With a $25 donation a commemorative Fight Night t-shirt is available www.givesight25.com. There, donations of any amount can also be made. All proceeds benefit CharityVision and its work to restore sight.

Last year’s Fight Night main event, headlined by former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and five-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, raised $1 million. In 2015 Charity Vision saw almost 400,000 patients, donated over 70,000 pairs of glasses, and performed over 42,000 surgeries.

KICK OFF FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND WITH A SPECIAL LA FIGHT CLUB FEATURING LAPD VS. NYPD ON JULY 1 BENEFITTING THE SUSAN G. KOMEN FOUNDATION

LOS ANGELES (June 10, 2016) – Sparks will fly this Fourth of July weekend at the July 1 edition of LA FIGHT CLUB, when Golden Boy Promotions brings Los Angeles fight fans a stacked amateur undercard for a good cause featuring LAPD and NYPD. The classic West Coast versus East Coast showdown spectacle will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation at downtown Los Angeles’ historic Belasco Theater. The event will also feature three professional Golden Boy fights as part of the televised portion of the night.

Headlining the televised card, undefeated bantamweight Oscar “Jaguar” Negrete (14-0, 5 KOs) of Los Angeles by way of Columbia will take on Jose “Flash” Bustos (11-6-3, 7 KOs) of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico in a 10-round televised fight airing live nationally on Estrella TV’s Boxeo Estelar. Also part of the live telecast, undefeated super bantamweight prospect Emilio Sanchez (12-0, 9 KOs) of Los Angeles is set to face Hugo “Olímpico” Partida (21-7-2, 9 KOs) of Mexico City in an eight-round co-main event. Miami’s Niko “Baby Face” Valdes (1-0, 1 KO) will open the televised portion in a four-round super middleweight match against a soon-to-be-named opponent. In honor of the evening’s theme, Valdes will also donate his entire purse to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

“Golden Boy has always been a big supporter of our brave men and women in law enforcement that protect our communities and I’m proud to have Los Angeles and New York area officers showcase their boxing talents for a great cause on July 1 at LA FIGHT CLUB,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “The fact that these Los Angeles and New York area officers have also chosen to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation with these fights is admirable and something Golden Boy Promotions is very proud to be part of as it falls in line with my goal of continually giving back to the community.”

In the non-televised action airing live on RingTVLive.com, Daniel Rosales of the LAPD’s Southwest Division will be participating in a three-round middleweight match against NYPD officer Nelson Cordero. Carlos Rosas of the LAPD’s Newton Division will also be fighting a three-round middleweight fight against an opponent soon to be announced.

The Ring TV live stream will begin at approximately 5:15 p.m. PT through 7:00 p.m.

Undefeated super bantamweight star Oscar “El Jaguar” Negrete of Tierralta, Columbia, who now calls Los Angeles home, is eager to make his mark in the bantamweight division. Negrete has been a regular face at LA FIGHT CLUB, fighting his last five fights there, which were all victories including a stunning knockout of Ernesto Guerrero in the third round on the December 4 card and a unanimous decision victory against Neftali Campos on the March 4 edition. Now, the Negrete is eager to add another victory to his record when he faces the tough Jose Bustos on July 1.

Coming off a winning streak, which included victories over Isaias “El Moyote” Orozco, Vidal Cruz, and most recently Marcos “Chicharito” Villarreal, Jose “Flash” Bustos will be looking to continue the momentum when he makes his LA FIGHT CLUB debut on July 1. Not shying away from tough opposition, Bustos has faced difficult fighters in the division including Frank De Alba, Christopher “Pitufo” Diaz, Dennis “The Surgeon” Galarza and Lamont Roach Jr. Now, looking to add another victory to his record, Bustos is ready to face another tough opponent in Oscar Negrete on July 1.

Golden Boy Promotions’ rising star Emilio Sanchez comes from an impressive amateur boxing career, with highlights include a 2011 state Golden Gloves title and Bronze medals in the US Nationals and the Olympic trials. Known for his power, Sanchez’s most recent victories are via knockout over the likes of Gustavo “El Gusano” Molina this past March, Jesus “Juanito” Hernandez in December 2015 and Juan Sandoval in September 2015. Sanchez will be looking for another knockout victory when he takes on the season Hugo Partida in the special edition of LA FIGHT CLUB on July 1.

Hugo “Olímpico” Partida of Mexico City is seasoned veteran known for his willingness to get in the ring with anyone. A professional since 2005, Partida has taken on Marco Antonio “El Bombarderdo” Hernandez, Juan Antonio “Zurdo” Rodriguez, Andres “Chavy” Romero, Julian “El Camaron” Ramirez and Joseph “Jojo” Diaz. Making his LA FIGHT CLUB debut this July 1, Partida will not be for another tough test when he goes up against Emilio Sanchez next.

Miami’s Niko “Baby Face” Valdes will fight his second professional bout at LA FIGHT CLUB against a soon to-be-announced opponent. Once ranked the third best light heavyweight amateur fighter in the U.S, this southpaw superstar leaves behind a highly decorated amateur career that saw him take home bronze at the 2014 USA Amateur Boxing National Championships, four Florida Golden Gloves state championship, and the bronze from the National Golden Gloves. In his professional debut, Valdes scored a first round knockout of Roberto Ramirez in April, now the light heavyweight prospect will be looking for another victory when he returns to the Belasco Theater on July 1.

KAL YAFAI AND OGOGO ADDED TO THE O2

Kal Yafai and Anthony Ogogo are the latest British boxing stars added to the action at The O2 in London on June 25, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Yafai is targeting a World title shot in 2016 and the unbeaten British Super-Flyweight champion is looking to gain valuable momentum after his first round KO win in March to land the WBA Inter-Continental strap. Yafai – who turns 27 tomorrow – holds lofty positions in the rankings of the major governing bodies and the classy Birmingham star wants to convert that status into a shot at the big prize.

“I’m delighted to be boxing at The O2 on June 25,” said Yafai. “This is going to be a big year for me. I kicked it off well with my win in Birmingham and with the right fights at the right time, it’s a year that I believe will end in a World title win.

“It’s a brilliant bill stacked with talented fighters and topped by Anthony Joshua’s World title fight – it doesn’t get any better than that and I am really looking forward to getting out there and putting on a great display.”

Ogogo made his long-awaited return to the ring in Glasgow on May 28 and did so in style with a third round stoppage win over Gary Cooper. The Olympic bronze medal star can now build towards title fights in the exciting Middleweight division, and the 27 year old fans’ favourite is looking forward to meeting up with his old Team GB teammate Joshua.

“I can’t wait to get back in the ring on June 25 at The O2,” said Ogogo. “It’s going to be an explosive night of boxing with my Olympic teammate and good friend Anthony Joshua heading the bill, as well as George Groves as chief support, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.

“It was great to be back in the ring on the Ricky Burns card in Glasgow in May and I just want to keep busy now and fight as often as I can to build momentum – starting on June 25. I’ll be looking to make a big statement on fight night and I would like to thank Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Sport, Golden Boy Promotions and Team Sauerland for helping to get me on such a great card.”

Yafai and Ogogo are part of a huge night of action at The O2 as Joshua defends his IBF World Heavyweight title against unbeaten American Dominic Breazeale.

George Groves and Martin Murray meet in a mouth-watering domestic Super-Middleweight blockbuster and WBA World title eliminator bout, Chris Eubank Jr defends his British Middleweight title against Welshman Tom Doran, John Wayne Hibbert clashes with Andrea Scarpa for the vacant WBC Silver Super-Lightweight title, Brixton Heavyweight Dillian Whyte returns to action, Conor Benn fights for the third time in the paid ranks and there’s a debut for Team GB star Felix Cash.

In the co-feature, undefeated former 154-pound world champion and 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius Andrade (22-0, 15 KOs), of Providence, R.I., will face Willie Nelson (25-2-1, 15 KOs) of Cleveland, Ohio, in a 12-round WBC Super Welterweight Title Eliminator.

JAMIE CONLAN JOINS STACKED CARDIFF ARENA CARD

Belfast thrillmeister Jamie Conlan has been added to the mouth-watering Cardiff Ice Arena show on July 16th. The 29 year-old super-flyweight supremo will box over eight rounds against an opponent to be confirmed, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

Conlan (16-0 – 10 KOs), has a well-deserved reputation as a rising star in the super-flyweight division, due to his undefeated record and strong KO ratio. He has an eye-catching and offensive boxing style, which has spawned his nickname, ‘The Mexican”.

Irish hero Conlan signed a promotional agreement with Frank Warren in March and is looking to move his career onto the next level as he hunts down a world title. The Irishman is in a ultra-competitive division that contains British rival Paul Butler, plus the classy, big-hitting, WBO World Champion from Japan Nagoya Inoue.

Last time out all-action Conlan beat South Sheild’s Anthony Nelson to claim the Commonwealth Super-Flyweight crown in an early fight of the year contender. Braveheart Conlan looked in trouble in round seven but survived to land the decisive blow in heroic fashion.

“I’m buzzing to be added to the talent-stacked Cardiff Ice Arena show and can’t wait to get back out there. I’ve never boxed in Wales even as an amateur so its another box ticked off. I’ll be looking to correct the mistakes from the Nelson fight and rack up another win in style.”

“I believe Frank Warren is the best promoter out there and will get me where I want to be and that’s a world champion. I’m pushing onto world level now and Frank’s expertise is second to none so I know that I’m in great hands. I’m getting out regularly and that’s the best way to progress as a fighter.”

WARRINGTON TOPS HUGE LEEDS BILL ON JULY 30

Josh Warrington will headline a huge bill at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on July 30, live on Sky Sports.

The unbeaten Leeds star tops the card in his hometown fortress for the sixth time in two years with promoter Eddie Hearn to announce his opponent on Monday. Warrington’s last outing at the First Direct Arena in April saw him defeat the dangerous Japanese Hisashi Amagasa to move to 23-0 and he continues his hunt for a World title shot on July 30.

There’s a stacked bill in support with Olympic gold medal hero Luke Campbell MBE back in title action following his brilliant KO win over Gary Sykes in Sheffield in March to land the Commonwealth title.

There’s a tasty Yorkshire derby as Huddersfield’s Tyrone Nurse defends his British Super-Lightweight title against Hull’s Tommy Coyle and Birmingham talent Gamal Yafai defends his Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight title against Barnsley’s Josh Wale.

Some of Britain’s best are in action in the shape of British Bantamweight king Ryan Burnett, the return of Birmingham Welterweight Frankie Gavin, his local rival and former British champion Sam Eggington and Brixton Heavyweight Dillian Whyte.

“This is by far the biggest night of boxing we have held in the Leeds Arena and there’s some excellent match ups,” said Hearn. “Josh will continue his march to a World title and I’m very excited about the all-Yorkshire clash for the British title between Nurse and Coyle. Luke Campbell is looking to climb the World rankings after his impressive win in Sheffield and hot prospect Gamal Yafai will be up against some strong support and a very game and experienced Josh Wale when defending his Commonwealth title. One of the World’s top prospects Ryan Burnett returns and Heavyweight star Dillian Whyte will continue his charge in the division. There’s plenty more action and a full announcement will be made on Monday.”

Tickets go on sale at midday on Monday June 13 to Matchroom Fight Pass members priced at £30, £40, £60 and £100 and VIPs for £150 from the Fight Pass area at www.matchroomboxing.com.

RUSLAN PROVODNIKOV & JOHN MOLINA JR., DEMETRIUS ANDRADE & WILLIE NELSON, DEJAN ZLATICANIN & FRANKLIN MAMANI FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES & PHOTOS

Ruslan Provodnikov 3
VERONA, N.Y. (June 9, 2016) – The six fighters, including main eventers Ruslan “The Siberian Rocky” Provodnikov and John “The Gladiator” Molina, who will compete on this Saturday’s SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® tripleheader live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT), participated in the final press conference Thursday at Turning Stone Resort Casino here.

Russia’s Provodnikov (25-4, 18 KOs) and Molina (28-6, 23 KOs) of Covina, Calif., clash in an eagerly awaited matchup in the main event. Provodnikov, a former WBO Junior Welterweight World Champion, was involved in the Fight of the Year in 2013 with Tim Bradley; former world title challenger Molina was in the 2014 Fight of The Year with Lucas Matthysse.

A can’t-miss co-feature at Turning Stone Casino will match unbeaten former 154-pound world champion and 2008 U.S. Olympian Demetrius Andrade (22-0, 15 KOs), of Providence, R.I., against Willie Nelson (25-2-1, 15 KOs) of Cleveland, Ohio, in a 12-round WBC Super Welterweight Title Elimination bout. The telecast will begin with a 12-rounder for the vacant WBC lightweight world championship between undefeated No. 1 ranked Dejan Zlaticanin (17-0, 10 KOs), of the Southeastern European country of Montenegro, and Franklin Mamani (21-2-1, 12 KOs) of Bolivia.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Banner Promotions, Inc., are priced at $85, $60, $45 and $35 and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Turning Stone Box Office, by calling 877.833.SHOW, or online at Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).

Also this Saturday, from Turning Stone, former world title challengers Willie Monroe Jr. (19-2, 6 KOs, of Rochester, N.Y. and John Thompson (17-2, 6 KOs), of Newark, N.J., clash in a 10-round middleweight bout in the main event on SHOWTIME EXTREME (7 p.m. ET/PT). In the SHO EXTREME opener, heavyweight Andrey Fedosov (28-3, 23 KOs), of Hollywood, Calif., meets Mexico’s Mario Heredia (11-1, 9 KOs, 1-2 in WSB) in a 10-round heavyweight bout.

Below is what the fighters said Thursday:

RUSLAN PROVODNIKOV

(On training camp) …

“This camp went very well. Everything went great. Now I’m just waiting for Saturday.”

(His thoughts on Molina) …
“I have a lot of respect for Molina and his team. He’s a great fighter. These are the types of opponents I like. Most of the fights I’ve had are fights like this, opponents like this. This actually motivates me. I don’t have a problem with getting into a fight like this. This is what I’m looking for. This is the type of fight I expect.”

(On his determination and will to win) …
“Words are not so much associated with explaining this because anybody can talk and anybody can say words. I think the fans or the people have to see how my fights have been and the way that I’ve fought those fights. For me to say right now that I’m going to ‘die in the ring’, they’re words right now. The fight will show, then the fans will have an understanding in their mind of was I just saying that or is that really the way it is. The actions show, not the words.”

(On how he sees the fight playing out) …
“It’s very hard to predict and I usually don’t make predictions. I never make predictions for my fights. Let’s just wait on June 11 and see.

(Final thoughts) …
“I want to take this moment to thank everybody that has to do with this fight. All the people that made this happen.”

JOHN MOLINA JR.

(Thoughts and reflections on Muhammad Ali) …

“The world lost a great human being, not only inside the ring but outside the ring. A champion is the best way to describe him. The greatest of all time. An innovator. Somebody that changes the world in and out. My heart goes out to his family.”

(On whether he’s the underdog or this is a 50-50 fight?) …

“In the grand scheme of things, the boxer – experts if you will – I don’t know how many times they’ve been in the ring but for what they do in boxing, they seem to have him as the favorite but rightfully so. In a sense because of the personality and persona that he’s portrayed in past times. I don’t think too much about the hype. We’ve prepped for war on Saturday night. We would be doing ourselves a disservice if we didn’t prepare right for someone like Ruslan. He’s a hell of a fighter, a hell of a competitor and we were both in a Fight of the Year. What people don’t realize is we were both in Fight of the Year on the losing side and now we’re going to be in a Fight of the Year, but both of us going for the winning side. I think the fans are going to be pleasantly surprised. I’m ready. The stage is set to showcase my capabilities Saturday night.”

(On how you prepare for a fighter like Provodnikov) …
“Just like you prepare for a fighter like everybody I’ve faced. Whether it be someone like Matthysse. Whether it be other fighters, I don’t want to go into names because right now my undivided attention is on Ruslan Provodnikov but the preparation is like that of any other man. I hate comparing the guy’s style to other people because again, the whole disservice you’d be doing is to yourself. You can study their style and get used to their mannerisms and what they portray in the ring and you can prepare yourself. With that being said, June 11 will be the first time I ever face Ruslan Provodnikov so what I do to prepare myself is work on my strong points and make sure those are up to par and make sure my energy is set and ready to fire on all cylinders Saturday night and I can tell you that they are set right.”

(On what fans should expect) …
“Fireworks. Like I said, every word that we use in the thesaurus is an understatement. Boxing is a ‘what have you done for me lately’ sport and Saturday night is no different. I believe in my heart of hearts the fans are going to get a treat with Ruslan Provodnikov coming forward, not wanting to take a backward step with myself coming forward not wanting to take a backward step. We’re both going to try and go in there and pose our will on each other and you’re not going to see a boring fight. It won’t be Dancing With The Stars, it’s going to be a fight.”

DEMETRIUS ANDRADE

(On his opponent and his quality of opposition) …

“Tony Harrison is definitely not Demetrius Andrade. Yes, he’s probably a prospect and doing good things but everybody sounds good, everybody’s a prospect until you get in there with somebody that knows how to fight. They can try to bring the will out of you and that’s what Willie did is bring the will out of himself to beat somebody like Tony Harrison, but Tony Harrison’s definitely not me.

“Willie Nelson, yeah he’s tall, they say he’s strong but I’m all that too. My IQ is greater, smarter and this is my time. This is it. This is something that either makes or breaks me. It’s a good challenge so the people get to see that, due to the layoff and everything. I came back to fight a guy like this and I came back to win the 154 division.

“I came here, chewing bubble gum and kicking ass. I ran out of bubble gum so come June 11, I will be kicking some ass. I am happy that SHOWTIME gave me this opportunity and put me back on the network, put me back on prime TV.

“There’s definitely going to be violence to open up the main event show with Provodnikov and John Molina, which is going to be a tremendous fight. Thanks for everybody coming out … and I am the greatest alive.”

(On the division and possible future opponents) …

“I think that I’m going to make history by beating two twins that hold title belts and it’s going to be a legendary thing for me. So, I’m tuned in, I’m ready and I’m focused. This is my division, it’s my war.”

(On what he sees playing out on fight night) …

“I’m just going in and do my thing, you know, I’m the type of person with character. I’ve been in the ring for many years through the amateur program and fought 300-400 times, against everybody in the whole world. So, there’s not nothing I haven’t seen or fought. A tall guy like Willie Nelson with no legs or upper body, I’m going to push him to the limit. That’s pretty much the plan. I’m going in and its knockout season for me.”

WILLIE NELSON

(On fans not expecting him to win) …

“It’s what happens all the time. I’m always the underdog. It’s OK and I try not to worry about it much.

“I’m not one to predict the fights; about what can and can’t happen, but it’s going to be an interesting fight. We know each other’s background and we have sparred before at the U.S. Training Camp.”

(On Muhammad Ali)…

“It hasn’t really affected my mindset in terms of this fight. With the passing of Muhammad Ali it’s very sad for boxing, and for the world. Because he wasn’t only a great fighter but also a great icon, a great man and a great leader.”

DEJAN ZLATICANIN

(On what fighting for a world title means to him) …

“I’ve prepared for this hard fight for a long time because they changed opponents and it’s hard to be prepared for that. But I have waited for this opportunity for a long time. This is the most important fight of my life, and I am going to win this fight.”

(His prediction) …

“I don’t like to talk too much. I will talk in the ring and I promise I will knock out Franklin Mamani.”

FRANKLIN MAMANI

(On this opportunity)…
“This is the chance of a lifetime, I feel like I have the winning lotto ticket and I just need to cash it in Saturday night. I come for a boxing family of 9 brothers, I have been in boxing since I was 12 years old and I always dreamed of fighting for a world title in the United States. My country (Bolivia) and my family will be watching and I will not disappoint them.”

(On his opponent)…
Zlaticanin is an aggressive, strong and talented fighter. It will be an honor to trade leather with him inside the ring and be able to win the WBC lightweight championship of the world against the number one contender in my division.”

A NIGHT FULL OF ACTION IS SET TO COME TO FANTASY SPRINGS RESORT CASINO ON JULY 15 AS MEXICAN CONTENDER PABLO CESAR CANO TAKES ON KEANDRE GIBSON LIVE ON ESTRELLA TV

Pablo Cesar Cano
LOS ANGELES (June 9, 2014) – Golden Boy Promotions is set to bring an Event of The Year to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino on July 15, airing live on Estrella TV’s Boxeo Estelar. In the main event, former WBA Interim Super Light Weight World Champion and Mexican warrior Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano (29-5-1, 21 KOs) of Tlanepantla, Mexico returns to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino to face top welterweight contender KeAndre “The Truth” Gibson (15-0-1, 7 KOs) of St. Louis, Mo. in a 10-round welterweight battle sure to bring fireworks to the Coachella Valley.

Part of the live telecast, former world title challenger Jayson “La Maravilla” Velez (23-2-1, 16 KOs) of Juncos, Puerto Rico will face Nicaraguan warrior and former WBC Silver Featherweight Champion Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado (23-7, 16 KOs) in a 10-round super featherweight Fight of the Year candidate.

The exciting fight card will be in contention as one of the best events of the year as the night promises non-stop action from four top fighters willing to leave it all on the mat on July 15.

Part of the non-televised undercard and streaming on RingTVLive.com, Cesar Diaz of Palmdale, Calif. will make his professional debut in a scheduled four-round super bantamweight fight. Undefeated prospect Rigoberto Hermosillo (5-0-1, 3 KOs) of Victorville, Calif. will participate in a six-round featherweight fight and Jhon Leon of Los Angeles will also make his professional debut in a four-round welterweight fight. All opponents will be announced shortly.

“Watching a great fight live at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino is one of the best ways to celebrate summer,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “This card on July 15 will pit veteran fighter Cano against rising welterweight contender Gibson in a main event fight that is sure to please and thrill fans. Additionally, Velez vs. Alvarado will be a can’t-miss event as these two guys give it their all everytime they enter the ring.”

Tickets for the event go on sale, Friday, June 10 and are priced at $45, $35, and $25. They can be purchased at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com.

Pablo Cesar Cano vs. KeAndre Gibson is a 10-round welterweight fight presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, BORN BOLD. The Boxeo Estelar broadcast will air live on Estrella TV at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT. The card will also stream live on EstrellaTV.com and on YouTube via Fenomeno Studios. The RingTVlive.com live stream will begin at approximately 5:00 p.m. PT through 7:00 p.m.

Pablo Cesar “El Demoledor” Cano of Tlalnepantla, Mexico State, Mexico is set on demolishing any opponent who stands in his way. No stranger in battling for belts, Cano is the former WBA Interim Super Lightweight World Champion and NABF Light Welterweight Champion and along his path to world championship gold has fought for the WBA Welterweight World Championship against Paulie “Magic Man” Malignaggi and the vacant WBC Super Lightweight World Championship against Erik “El Terrible” Morales. Staying bust in 2015, Cano defeated Jorge Silva and Silverio “Chamaco II” Ortiz, and most recently faced Alan Sanchez in May 2016 at the new Toshiba Plaza in Las Vega, opening up the Canelo-Khan fight weekend. Now, Cano will be looking to get back on the winning column as he sets up to face one of the most promising contenders in the welterweight division, KeAndre Gibson on July 15.

26-year-old welterweight contender, KeAndre “The Truth” Gibson, of Saint Louis, Mo. who now makes his home in Las Vegas, is set to have the toughest test of his career thus far when he takes on Mexican warrior Pablo Cesar Cano on July 15. In 2015, Gibson took on Nicaragua’s Nelson Lara winning the fight via unanimous decision and since then has faced Jorge “Koky” Ramos and Tom “Hitman.” Gibson was last seen in the ring in March 2016 returning to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino for the second time and defeating Hector “Charro Negro” Velazquez via technical decision in the sixth round. Now coming back to Fantasy Springs Resort Casino for the third time, Gibson will be looking to impress the local crowd with a victory on July 15.

Hailing from Juncos, Puerto Rico, 28-year-old Jayson “La Maravilla” Velez has been a fine representative of the Caribbean’s fighting capital since turning professional in 2007. Former owner of the WBC Interim Silver, WBC FECARBOX and USNBC titles over the years, Velez has made his mark with victories over the likes of Salvador “Sal II” Sanchez, Dat “Dat Be Dat” Nguyen and Daniel “Huracan” Ramirez, as well as a draw in an IBF title bout against Evgeny “El Russo Mexicano” Gradovich. On Nov. 21, 2015 Velez opened up the pay-per-view telecast of Miguel Cotto vs. Canelo Alvarez against Ronny Rios and suffered his first professional defeat via decision and took on Joseph “Jojo” Diaz Jr. in March 2016 and suffered another loss via decision. Now, looking for redemption, Velez will be hungry to get back in the winners column and title race when he takes on one of the toughest fighters coming out of Nicaragua in Rene Alvarado on July 15.

Managua, Nicaragua’s Rene “Gemelo” Alvarado comes into the ring with much experience under his belt, owning several titles over the course of nearly eight years. “Gemelo” has earned the respect from his peers and boxing fans all over the world for his hard-nosed style and willingness to fight all. The 27 year old’s biggest win was the complete stoppage at the ninth-round of current top featherweight contender Robinson “Robin Hood” Castellanos in 2014 which earned him the WBC Silver Featherweight Championship. Alvarado last faced Manuel “Tino” Avila in April 2016, losing via decision to the rising contender in Los Angeles. Ready for another shot at championship gold, Alvarado will leave it all in the ring taking on Jayson Velez on July 15.

Cesar Diaz is set to make his exciting professional debut as a new member of the Golden Boy Promotions stable on July 15. A decorated amateur and owner of a 104-11 amateur record, Diaz won the 2012 Silver Gloves National Championship, the 2015 Adidas National PAL title, The Desert Showdown in 2009, 2013 and 2015, and several other tournaments. Among the fighters he defeated were 2016 United States Olympians Shakur Stevenson and Carlos Balderas, as well as Danny Gonzalez. In 2013, Diaz went to the Junior Olympic regionals and was champion in his weight class, but due to his citizenship, he could not move on to the nationals. Undeterred, Diaz continued to fight, win and impress, earning him a USA Boxing number three ranking in the 123-pound weight class. And as his amateur career closes, he will enter the professional game after compiling a 29-0 amateur record that has seen him go unbeaten since 2013.

At 23-years-old, Rigoberto Hermosillo from Victorville, Calf. has steadily built his professional resume since turning pro in 2013 with a unanimous decision victory over Allen Nevarez at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. Since then, the featherweight prospect has defeated Alejandro Estrada, Hector Aguilar and Mario Diaz all by knockout. Looking to keep the momentum going, Hermosillo will be in top shape when he takes on an opponent yet to be announced on his grand return to Fantasy Spring Resort Casino on July 15.

A stablemate of unbeaten Pablo “The Shark” Rubio, welterweight Jhon Leon is coached by the respected Rafael Sarabia in Pico Rivera, and as he approaches his professional debut, he does so with a lot of expectations on his shoulders thanks to his natural talent, work ethic, and determination to one day become a world champion. And given the fact that the Southern California fight scene is hotter than ever, expect to see the name Jhon Leon featured prominently in the coming years.

ON THE EVE OF MUHAMMAD ALI’S FUNERAL, DAVID HAYE CONTINUES TO CAMPAIGN FOR ‘THE GREATEST’ TO BE GRANTED A POSTHUMOUS HONORARY KNIGHTHOOD

Muhammad Ali
After the devastating news of Muhammad Ali’s passing last weekend, David Haye continues to campaign for ‘The Greatest’ to be granted an Honorary Knighthood

Former Two-Weight World Champion David Haye launched a campaign in February for his icon, Ali, to be granted an Honorary Knighthood.

Haye said, “This week we lost a Legend, a true Global Icon – phrases I don’t use lightly. Muhammad Ali transcended the world of boxing, inspiring so many, including me, to believe ‘Impossible is Nothing’.

Like millions of others around the world, Muhammad Ali is a hero of mine and inspiring me to box. Added to this his humanitarian work over many years which had a huge impact across the world, I couldn’t think of a more fitting person to be granted an Honorary Knighthood. The current laws do not allow for a posthumous Knighthood, but Ali throughout his career challenged what was deemed possible so it’s quite fitting that current rules should be reviewed for ‘The Greatest of all time’”

The campaign which launched in February received support from Boris Johnson, Bob Geldof, comedian John Bishop and Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan as well as sports personalities including; Denise Lewis, Colin Jackson, Anthony Joshua, Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn. Downing Street officially acknowledge the campaign and (insert additional info Thursday morning)

He continued, ‘Although Muhammad was not well enough to travel to the UK as planned in earlier this year, I met with his wife Lonnie who said what an honour the award, from a country he so loved, would mean to him. With such huge public demand and support from his family I truly hope we can make this happen,’

There have been recent calls to review the process of awarding Knighthoods with one to be granted posthumously to football legend Bobby Moore which would require secondary legislation and also the removal of the late Jimmy Saville’s.

Honorary Knighthoods are to recognise non-British citizens who have made major contributions to this country and its well-being and currently there is no non-British option currently being considered.

Haye added, “I believe Muhammed Ali is the perfect recipient, whilst it is a huge shame this did not happen when he was alive to award it posthumously in honour of the incredible legacy he leaves would be perfectly fitting”

SHAWN PORTER LAS VEGAS MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

Shawn Porter
LAS VEGAS (June 9, 2016) – Former world champion Shawn Porter hosted a Las Vegas media workout Wednesday in advance of his welterweight world title showdown against undefeated Keith Thurman on Saturday, June 25 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, live on CBS and presented by Premier Boxing Champions with televised coverage beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, start at $49 and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, www.barclayscenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are also available at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center. Group discounts are available by calling 844-BKLYN-GP.

Porter and his father and trainer, Ken Porter, were on hand to speak to media and show
off the skills of the 28-year-old Akron, Ohio, native at the Porter Hy-Performance Center.

Here’s what the Porters said Wednesday:

SHAWN PORTER

“Being the first fight in primetime on CBS since Muhammad Ali is very significant. It makes me want to go out there and do something inspiring.

“Keith’s injury gave me enough time to make extra sure that I had everything I needed to get ready for this fight. Not to say I wouldn’t have been ready March 12 but it’s given me more time to reflect and visualize. On June 25, I know I will be 100 percent on every level.

“We sparred for about two weeks together but it was a while ago. The biggest change has been mental. There are things you learn and grow out of. I’m a lot different. Still some of the same skills but definitely stronger mentally.

“I think he can do some things. He can box very well. He throws good off balanced shots. I can box as well, but I have the pressure, quickness, foot speed and hand speed that it takes to not only outbox him, but to pressure him and hurt him. I think that’s what makes it a great fight.

“At this point, we look at everything we’ve done and move forward each day because we know something special is going to happen. I’m blessed to have a mindset where I don’t focus on what I’ve done. I am always looking forward to the next big opportunity.

“I think the fight is bigger since it’s been postponed. Taking it to Barclays Center is something that is special for the sport of boxing. I won my first championship there and I look forward to keeping up the recent history of great fights at Barclays Center.

“I want to win each and every round. We want to make him have to adjust to what we’re doing. If we control the fight, we win the fight.

“I’ve always been taught to control everything in a fight. I can’t allow him to slow the tempo down. But I’m definitely not going to rush. I have the skills to execute the game plan.

“I think the difference is in my preparation. I have a great team to match my great skills. We’re going to shock the world.”

KEN PORTER, Shawn’s Father & Trainer

“We normally don’t work out hard in front of the media, but we’ve decided to switch the energy and go harder during this afternoon session. This isn’t just for the cameras.

“I respect Keith Thurman as a fighter and a person. This is something that happens along the way. Fighters have to fight each other. Some of these young guys working in this gym, they might have to fight Shawn one day. But fight night is fight night.

“I’m not worried about anything Keith Thurman can do. We’ve done all the hard work. The foundation has been laid. He’s done this since he was four-years-old. He’s been on every stage and this is his time.”
