Stefon McCray Headlines June 16 at Michael’s Eighth Avenue

Baltimore, MD (June 1, 2016) – Jake Smith’s Baltimore Boxing Promotions returns to Michael’s Eighth Avenue in Glen, Burnie MD for another action packed card Thursday, June 16.

Tickets purchased in advance start at $25, reserved seats are available for $35, reserved tables for ten are $350, $50 VIP seats and $500 VIP tables for 10 are on sale now by calling 410-375-9175 or logging onto Baltimoreboxing.com. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the first fight starts at 8. All ticket holders 21 years and older are invited to the official after party at Ferndale Tavern at 7215 Baltimore Annapolis Blvd in Glen
Burnie.

In association with this exciting evening of action, Baltimore Boxing is teaming up with Baltimore-based nonprofit Unified Efforts. Founded by former Baltimore detective Debbie Ramsey four years ago, Unified Efforts is a full-service bullying prevention organization. On the 16th, Unified Efforts will speak to the crowd about anti bullying, pass out pamphlets and run a special 50/50 raffle. Their mascot, “Humble the Bee”, will also be on hand to promote the cause.

“Unified Efforts is looking forward to another great event with Baltimore Boxing,” said Ramsey. “We’re going to continue to bring awareness about bullying prevention and alternatives to violence for Baltimore’s youth. Baltimore Boxing is a leader in organized youth athletic programs that showcases how proper training, discipline and a focus on respect for others will help young men and women reach their fullest potential academically and socially. Together, we can end bullying!”

In the main event of the evening, rising prospect Stefon “Showtime” McCray of the Baltimore Boxing Gym faces 2016 Golden Gloves titlist TJ Mottinger. A standout basketball player in high school and college, McCray is already making a name for himself inside the squared circle. Mottinger, the current East Coast Champion, looks to avenge a prior loss to McCray.

The McCray-Mottinger bout is for the Maryland State Heavyweight Title and East Coast Championship.
Baltimore Boxing’s Clayton Frazier meets Elvis Banegas in a rematch. Frazier is one of the biggest ticket sellers in the area and brings a great crowd every time he fights but Banegas has plans to silence his loyal followers.

Tyrell Boyd, Justin “Psycho” Sykes, Ashton “The Goon” Sykes, Destiny Day Owens, Allen “The Hampden Hammer” Burris and young phenom Tommy Coe Jr. will all appear in separate bouts against opponents to be named.

“The 16th is guaranteed to bring excitement,” said Jake Smith. “We’ve got two highly anticipated rematches and many other quality fighters on the card. Tyrell Boyd is one of this area’s best kept secrets and Tommy Coe Jr. is one of the best young fighters around. It’s also great to be working with Deborah and Unified Efforts. They’re a great organization and it’s my pleasure to assist however I can with anti-bullying. Kids in schools across the country are being bullied and it needs to stop immediately. Everybody who comes out on the 16th are not just supporting the fighters, they’re helping the anti-bullying movement that can literally save lives.”

Idrisov withdraws with illness Korobkov Takes on Buchinger in non-title fight

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (June 1, 2016) – A sudden illness has forced Magomed Idrisov to withdraw from his scheduled M-1 Challenge featherweight title fight this Saturday (June 4) against defending champion Ivan “Buki” Buchinger at M-1 Challenge 67: Battle in the Land of Fire at Baku, Azerbaijan.

(L-R) – Mikhail Korobkov and Ivan Buchinger

Mikhail Korobkov (9-1-1, M-1: 0-1-1), of Russia, is the late replacement for Idrisov but, due to Korobkov coming off of a loss in his last fight (decision to Timur Nagibin last Friday at M-1 Challenge 66), his fight versus Buchinger (30-4-0, M-1: 5-0-0) is a not for the title and it has been downgraded from main event to co-feature. Buchinger, fighting out of Slovakia, has won his last nine fights dating back four years.

The new main event matches Alexander “Iron Capture” Butenko (40-11-2, M-1: 7-1-0), of Ukraine, and Belarussian Artiom Damkovsky (20-9-0. M-1: 10-6-0) for the vacant M-1 Challenge lightweight championship.

FLANAGAN DEFENDS WORLD TITLE AGAINST TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION FANA AS CHIEF SUPPORT TO FURY V KLITSCHKO 2

Terry Flanagan (640x360)
Manchester’s Lightweight King Terry Flanagan will make the third defence of his WBO World Title against South Africa’s two-time world champion Mzonke Fana as chief-support of World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury’s rematch with Wladimir Klitschko at the Manchester Arena on July 9, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

Undefeated Flanagan, 30-0 12 KO’s, makes a hero’s return to Manchester after defending his world title in enemy territory against Liverpool’s Derry Mathews in March. All-action ‘Turbo’ smashed mandatory challenger Diego Magdaleno inside two rounds in his last outing at the Manchester Arena last October and is predicting another devastating performance on his big return.

“It doesn’t get any bigger than fighting as chief support and right before the lineal heavyweight championship of the world. The world will be watching as a fellow Manchester man Tyson Fury aims to show he’s the best heavyweight on the planet once again,” said Flanagan.

He added: “Fana is a two time world champion at super-featherweight, he’s highly experienced, tough and has a very good jab. He will be coming over here looking to take my title but it’s not going to happen,”

“There’s going to be 20,000 Mancunians cheering on two of their own in world title fights. I’m going to pick up where I left off and continue to show everyone that I am the number one lightweight in the world.”

Flanagan, 26, has come a long way since his impressive BoxNation debut against Yordan Vasilev back in May 2014. Since then the Mancunian has gone on to become a world champion and says he owes a lot of his success to his loyal support.

He said: “It’s great to get back home in front of my own fans; especially on such a big bill. The Manchester Arena is right on my door step so it’s will be good for my fans; it’s only a 5 minute walk from the estate. The atmosphere is going to be something else.”

The Channel of Champions, BoxNation, will televise live and exclusive on Sky 437/HD 490, Virgin 546, Freeview 255 and Talk Talk 415. Subscribe at www.boxnation.com or watch online at livesport.tv and via iPhone, iPad or Android.

TOP RATED RICHARD COMMEY HEADS TO FLORIDA FOR RANCES BARTHELEMY – MICKEY BEY IBF WORLD LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE CLASH

London, England (May 31, 2016) Top Rated and Undefeated Lightweight Contender Richard Commey, 24-0-0 (22KO’s) heads to Hollywood, Florida this week to attend the IBF World Lightweight Championship between champion Rances Barthelemy and former world champion Mickey Bey.

“I’m going because the belt they are fighting for will be the one around my waist in the near future,” said the 29-year-old Commey, originally from Accra, Ghana now based in London. “I’m next in line and can’t wait to prove to the world that I’m the best lightweight in the world.”

Currently ranked #3 with the top two positions being open, Commey will be facing the winner of the June 3rd showdown in the near future.

“Richard is ready, he’s been ready and when he’s given the chance he will be victorious,” said
Michael Amoo-Bediako, Managing Director of Streetwise Management. “Richard has been an underdog in many of the fights he’s had but he’s always preserved and always won.

Commey made the most of his U.S. debut on May 22 2015, stopping once beaten Russian contender Bahodir Mamadjonov in the eighth round in Las Vegas. The brilliant nationally televised performance earned Commey the vacant IBF Inter-Continental Lightweight Title.

Shortly following his victory for the title, the IBF asked that he vacate the Inter-Continental Lightweight Title with the promise of a mandatory challenger position fight which has not taken place, therefore leaving Commey next in line to fight for their World Lightweight Title.

In his last two starts, Commey has scored two additional knockouts, a fifth round stoppage of Kakha Avetisiani on October 17, 2015 in Germany and a second round knockout of Anzor Gamgebeli on March 19, 2016 in Denmark.

“Ghana has produced many great champions such as Azumah Nelson and Ike Quartey, Richard is prepared to be the next one.”

Undefeated Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade Fighting way back to top of Super Welterweight Division

Andrade Pucheta weigh in 3
PROVIDENCE (May 31, 2016) — Undefeated super welterweight Demetrious “Boo Boo” Andrade is in a good place as he prepares for his June 11 showdown versus Willie “The Great” Nelson on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) from Turning Stone Casino in Verona, N.Y.

Approaching the peak of his professional boxing career, the 28-year-old Andrade (22-0, 15 KOs) has moved past a frustrating three-year stretch that, after he won a 12-round decision over Vanes Masrtirosyan for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) 154-pound world title, found him fighting only twice. One was his only title defense, in which he won impressively by way of a seventh-round stoppage of then WBO No. 1 mandatory title challenger Brian Rose. But, due to promotional issues, Andrade was later stripped by the WBO for inactivity. His last fight was this past October when he recorded a second-round knockout of Dario Fabian Pucheta for the WBO International belt.

Now, Andrade has a new three-year promotional contract that gives his company, A Team Promotions, 50 percent of his promotional rights to go along with 25 percent each for Banner Promotions and Star Boxing.

“I’ve always been in a good place, mentally, because I have confidence in myself,” said Andrade on what he went through during his long stretch outside of the ring. “I continued training hard. The politics of boxing, well, I’m not 100 percent there yet. Not until I’m actually in the ring and fighting will I actually know if that’s worked out for me.

“I’m satisfied in my future, showcasing myself in the ring. I own 50 percent of myself and that – being a promoter – is a big factor. I know everything now, including all the real numbers, and I’ve learned about the ins and outs of this business. I’m also meeting the right network of people to help my career.”

Andrade is thrilled to be fighting on SHOWTIME for the second time during his career, the first back in 2013 on ShoBox: The New Generation against Freddy Hernandez. “The top 154-pounders are with SHOWTIME. I’d like to thank SHOWTIME for giving me this amazing opportunity.”

Andrade-Nelson is a 12-round WBC title elimination fight to determine the second mandatory challenger for new WBC Super Welterweight Champion Jermell Charlo, who, as the WBC No. 1 contender was matched last May 21 withNo. 2 rated John Jackson. No. 3 Andrade was originally slated to face No. 5 Charles Hatley in a title eliminator to determine the No. 1 mandatory contender. However, negotiations with Hatley’s promoter, Don King, failed to materialize and Andrade moved on to fight WBC No. 10 Nelson. The WBC declared Hatley as Charlo’s mandatory challenger, despite him being ranked lower than Andrade, with the Andrade-Nelson winner now declared the mandatory title challenger for the future Charlo-Hatley victor.

Andrade, though, has no hard feelings with the WBC about its decisions. “I’m just thankful to be fighting in this ‘tournament’,” he commented. “Charlo was the WBC International champion and he should have had the opportunity to fight for the vacant title. I have the WBO International title, Hatley the WBC Silver title, so Hatley should probably have been ranked higher than me by the WBC. I respect the WBC’s decision to make him the first mandatory challenger.”

Nelson (25-2-1, 15 KOs) and Andrade are familiar with each other through the USA Boxing amateur program, but the two have never met in the ring.

“Nelson lets his hands go,” Andrade noted. “He likes to mix it up and so do I. I like to think that I’m a little smarter than him in the ring. This is going to be an interesting fight. I respect him for taking the fight and I’m preparing to fight the toughest opponent I’ve ever faced. He may be the tallest guy (6′ 3″) I’ve ever fought as a pro, but it’s only a few inches, and not a big deal.”

Andrade is back on his way to reaching the peak of the 154-pound division once again.

“I am ready to set the roof on fire on June 11,” Andrade said. “Once everyone at 154 pounds gets a taste of me, they will know I am the greatest. The Charlos made history by becoming the first twins to hold titles in the same weight division. I will make history by beating both of them. Then I will beat Lara and unify all of the belts.

“Stay tuned. I am a force to be reckoned with. I will show the world that the best 154 pound fighter in the world is Demetrius Andrade.”

Undefeated and number-one ranked Julian “J Rock” Williams ready for Jermall Charlo next

Julian Williams
PHILADELPHIA (MAY 31, 2016)–On May 21, three of the four world championships in the hot junior middleweight division were contested as Erislandy Lara defended his WBA title with a unanimous decision over Vanes Martirosyan; Jermall Charlo defended his IBF title with a unanimous decision over former champion Austin Trout and Jermell Charlo scored a come-from-behind stoppage over John Jackson to capture the WBC belt.

Sitting ringside was IBF number-one ranked contender, undefeated Julian “J Rock”Williams. Williams was a very interested observer and was interviewed on the SHOWTIME ® broadcast with his thoughts on the happenings of the evening.

“Jermell did his thing. I thought he was losing but Jermell has a clutch gene. He comes through in close fights. He knows what it’s like to be in tough. He’s doing well under Derrick James. He looked better on TV than he did live at the fight. He was losing but he was walking Jackson down. The sand was running out of the hour glass for Jackson. Jermell can punch better than his record indicates. And that style would be better for him because people always called him boring but it was nothing boring about the KO,” said Williams.

“Lara did what he always does. He boxed and moved and he won.”

” I honestly didn’t think Trout would last with Jermall. I was surprised at how competitive that fight was. Jermall has every advantage over Trout on paper but fights aren’t won on paper. Trout proved something. I was actually going to congratulate him but I heard him say to Jermall “smack J Rock for me”. I don’t know what’s up with these guys. He had a chance to fight me for a whole year and he asked another man to smack me. But that’s old news Trout is out of the picture.”

With that being, said the undefeated fighter from Philadelphia is focused in bring back the hardware back to the “City of Brotherly Love.”

“My focus is on Jermall Charlo. It’s going to be a great fight. I think he’s a heck of a fighter. This is legacy defining. This is a real number-one contender against a real champion. This is a real mandatory. This is like Bernard Hopkins having to defend against Jermain Taylor. Or Jermain Taylor having to defend against Kelly Pavlik. Or Felix Trinidad having to fight Oba Carr. This is a real fight and I’m excited. I’m excited to test my skills against one of the best young fighters in the game.

Even though, Williams was ringside, he just wanted to observe and take mental notes of the perspective future opponents.

“I didn’t get in the ring like Charles Hatley did because that’s not my style. Hatley is a talented fighter. I remember him from the amateurs but to each his own. Jermall and Jermell deserve respect and most importantly I know the difference between the two brothers. Hatley got in the ring with Jermall who has to fight me, instead of Jermell who has to fight him. That was Jermall’s moment to shine he had just won a tough fight. Everybody knows he has to fight me. There would be no need for me to get in the ring.”

Even though Williams has been avoided, the powers that be in boxing can not keep Williams from realizing his dreams, and that opportunity will be coming sooner rather than later.

“From my understanding we have to come to an agreement in June. I believe in the IBF. They seem to enforce their mandatory bouts. The IBF did not rank me number-one, not to have me fight for their belt. Jermall said making weight wasn’t that bad. He hired a chef. I know he’s prideful. He’s a champion. He feels he’s better than me, I feel I’m better than him. There is only one way to prove it. Let’s fight.”

I can’t get into details but I believe the fight will be in September as the co- main to a BIG card. I’m super excited to finally get this opportunity.

“Although this will be my second fight in the U.S. and many people might think I am not the favorite, I will surprise lots of fans,” said Rueda. “I respect my opponent, but I am going to Las Vegas determined and with only one thing on my mind – winning the belt and bringing it back to Argentina with me. You can all be sure of that. My opponent is going to lose. I respect him, he is a very good fighter, but he will lose.”

“This fight is very important because I want to show everyone that I am ready to beat world-class fighters in the welterweight pound division,” said Benavidez. “I know Santana is a good fighter but I have what it takes to outclass and beat him on July 23. I have been training hard and am more than ready to show what I bring to the table on fight night and prove I belong.”

“I feel extremely blessed to be fighting against Benavidez on HBO Pay-Per-View. He is a talented fighter but I am ready to rise to the occasion and prove to the world that I am an elite fighter and a future world champion,” said Santana. “I view this fight as getting me one step closer to a world title shot. On the night we get into the ring I will live up to my motto – ‘Train, Fight, Win’ – one fight at a time.”

Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs), a two-fisted super middleweight wrecking machine who hails from Mazatlan, Mexico, made history in the co-main event to the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley welterweight pay-per-view on April 9 when he became Mexico’s first fighter to win a super middleweight world title. Entering the fight as the top world-rated contender, Ramirez gave a virtuoso performance over the defending WBO champion Abraham. All three judges scored it as a 120-108 blitzkrieg. “I took him to Mexican boxing school,” a jubilant Ramirez boasted as he put on the world championship belt . A sensational young champion, Ramirez, 24, has won four of his last eight bouts by knockout. Career-highlight performances include an NABF and NABO title victory over Giovanni Lorenzo via fifth-round stoppage, a WBO International title knockout victory over Junior Talipeau and a successful defense of his NABF and WBO International titles, stopping Fulgencio Zuniga in the eighth round, all in 2014. Last year he successfully defended his titles via unanimous decisions over once-beaten Maxim Vlasov, division gate keeper Derek Edwards, who boasts a KO victory over world champion Badou Jack, and once-beaten Gevorg Khatchikian, who had scored knockouts in five of his last six victories.

Britsch (32-2-1, 11 KOs), of Neckarsulm, Germany, enters this fight riding a four bout winning streak and having won six of his last seven bouts dating back to 2013. Known for his body punching prowess and his excellent skills and movement, Britsch’s trophy case features the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental middleweight and German super middleweight championship belts. This will be his first fight in the U.S. since 2011.

Valdez (20-0, 17 KOs), who represented Mexico in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, was the first Mexican fighter to qualify for two Olympic games and is considered one of the bright lights of the featherweight division and a new face for boxing’s next generation. In his last fight, on the undercard of the April 9 Pacquiao-Bradley pay-per-view, Valdez solidified his status as the World Boxing Council (WBC) and WBO No. 1 contender by scoring a fourth-round TKO of former IBF featherweight world champion Evgeny Gradovich. It was the first time Gradovich had ever been stopped in his 24-bout professional career. On the undercard of Pacquiao – Bradley II welterweight world championship rematch in 2014, Valdez captured the NABF super featherweight junior title, knocking out Adrian Perez in the fourth round. Valdez successfully defended that title twice in 2014, knocking out Noel Echevarria and Alberto Gonzalez in the sixth and seventh rounds, respectively. From Nogales, Sonora, Mexico Valdez, 25, won all four of his 2015 fights — three by knockout. He fashioned a third-round blasting of Jose Ramirez on April 11, in Laredo, Texas. Valdez followed that with his live HBO debut, winning a dominant 10-round unanimous decision over one-time world title challenger Ruben Tamayo on June 27 in Carson, Calif. He ended 2015 with knockout victories of top-10 contender and one-time world title challenger Chris Avalos and Ernes Sanchez on September 11 and December 12, respectively. The four fighters boasted a combined record of 91-19-5.

Rueda (26-0, 23 KOs), from Tandil, Buenos Aires, Argentina, enters this world championship fight having won his last 10 fights by way of knockout which he credits to his exciting “seek and destroy” style and deadly punching power. He has made six defenses of the WBO Latino featherweight title he captured in 2013 via a third-round knockout of Juan Solis, On January 16, he also became the South American featherweight champion, scoring an eighth round knockout of Leandro Mendes. In his last fight, which took place on April 2, Rueda iced Nestor Pamigua in the third round to successfully defend both of his titles.

Benavidez (24-0, 16 KOs), from phoenix, AZ, won his first world title in 2014 when he won a hotly-contested unanimous decision over defending World Boxing Association (WBA) interim super lightweight champion Mauricio Herrera. After one successful title defense — a 12th-round knockout of Jorge Paez, Jr. in 2015 — Benavidez vacated the title to move up to the welterweight division. His debut in the heavier weight class took place on December 12, where he won a blistering 10-round unanimous over Sidney Siqueira. An amateur standout, at 16, Benavidez was the youngest boxer to ever win the National Golden Gloves Championships, in 2009. He was also the youngest boxer, at 17, to be licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. An exception was made for the minimum age requirement of 18 years because of his exceptional talent. Benavidez is currently the WBA’s No. 6 world-rated welterweight contender.

Santana (24-4-1, 12 KOs), from Santa Barbara, Calif., enters this fight having won 12 of his last 13 bouts, with half of those victories coming by way of knockout.. A favorite of Southern California fight fans because of his exciting style and two-fisted power, Santana boasts several notable victories including a first-round knockout of undefeated contender Kendal Mena for the WBA International welterweight title in 2015, and back-to-back unanimous decisions over former world champion Joachim Alcine and Freddy Hernandez in 2013. In his last fight, on April 2, he scored a 10-round unanimous decision over Edward Paredes.

Team Bone, “We were robbed Shamelessly in Vazquez bout”

New York, NY (May 31, 2016)- The manager of junior welterweight contender Erick Bone feels that his fighter was not given a fair shake this past Saturday night against former IBF Lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez in San Antonio
.

The bout headlined a Premier Boxing Champions card on FS1, was scored in favor of Vazquez by tallies of 99-91, 97-93 and 96-94.

Bone did well when countering and when he decided to force the action, landed the harder shots.

Bone was very effective with the right hand showed good foot work and landed some good body shots.

“Erick won that fight on Saturday night,” said Bone’s manager Eli Mackay.

“It was unimaginable that Vazquez won that fight and for one judge to only give Erick only one round just shows that the judges had their mind made up on what they wanted to see. The only problem is that Vazquez did not do what they wanted to see and it is a shame that a fighter like Erick, who has fought three world champions in his last three bouts (two on short notice) gets deprived of a breakthrough win that could help set up his career.”

“Erick clearly beat Vazquez to the punch all night and he fought a good fight Vasquez barely did anything. These type of out comes even on main event fights hurt the sport”

Bone of Manabi, Ecuador has a record of 16-4 with eight knockouts.

Seldon and Mussachio earn big wins on the Boardwalk

Seldon wins
Atlantic City, NJ (May 30, 2016)–This past Friday night at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City, Rising Promotions staged it’s third consecutive fight card in front of a large crowd that saw Isiah Seldon defeat Eddie Edmond in the six-round main event.

The middleweight bout highlighted a entertaining six bout card.

Seldon rocked Edmond several times with right hands that had the Newark, New Jersey resident holding on. The grabbing got much more severe and Edmond was deducted a point in round four. In round six, Seldon sealed the fight when he landed a right hand that forced Edmond’s glove to touch the canvas for a knockdown.

Seldon, 156 lbs won by scores of 59-54, 59-53 and 58-54 to raise his record to 9-1. Edmond, 158 lbs is 4-5-2.

In the co-feature, Chuck Mussachio shook off 39 months of ring rust to pound out a six-round unanimous decision over Willis Lockett in a cruiserweight rematch of a draw that occurred almost eight-years ago.
Mussachio was adept with his jab and landed some hard right hands that stunned Lockett. Despite the long layoff, Mussachio was sharp with his punches and reflexes looked on-point as he was only hit with a couple right hands. Mussachio thrilled his fan base that has stood by him throughout his eleven year career and the Lower Cape May Regional High School guidance counselor will look to make one more run at a title fight.

Mussachio, 183 lbs of Wildwood, New Jersey won by scores of 60-54, 59-55 and 58-56 and is now 19-3-2. Lockett, 205.3 lbs of Takoma Park, Maryland is 14-17-5.

In an action filled welterweight bout, Quan Johnson made a successful pro debut with a fourth round stoppage over Adrian Wilson in the final scheduled round of their welterweight bout.

Johnson showed fast hands from his southpaw stance and he got off to a good start when a straight left hand in round one landed for a knockdown. Moments later, a hard straight left sent Wilson down for a second time in the opening frame, Wilson began to bleed from his nose in the next round and his troubles worsened when a cut over the right eye formed after another hard left. Wilson showed heart as he fought back hard but, he was outgunned as he tasted the canvas two more times in round four from first a right hook and then finally an accumulation of punches forced the bout to be stopped at 2:15 of round four.

Johnson, 148.6 of Cherry Hill, New Jersey is 1-0 with 1 knockout. Wilson, 147.3 lbs of Atlantic Cuty is 0-3.

Heavyweight’s Quian Davis and Soloman Maye battled to a four round majority draw

Davis boxed but Maye came forward in attempt to make the fight. The judges liked the aggressiveness of Maye and gave him credit for two rounds on two cards ad Davis took a card 39-37 while two read even at 38-38.

Davis, 253 lbs of Mays Landing, New Jersey is now 2-0-2. Maye, 226.7 lbs of New Haven, Connecticut is 1-6-2.

2016 United States Olympic Alternate, LeRoy Davila stopped Dominic Whitehurst in the second round in a scheduled four round bantamweight bout featuring pro debuter’s.

Davila showed quick hands from his southpaw stance and dropped Whitehurst with a body combination in round two. Davila landed a three punch combination to the body to register a second knockdown. Davila ended things when he landed a hard left hand and the fight was stopped at 2:34.
Davila, 116.9 lbs of New Brunswick, New Jersey is now 1-0 with one knockout. Whitehurst, 117.5 lbs of Chillicothe, Ohio is 0-1.

Said Davila’s manager, Pete Festa, “Rising Promotions is the best up and coming promoter in the industry.”

Lamont Capers opened up the show by scoring a eight round split decision over Nick Kisner in a cruiserweight bout.

Capers was effective with the right hand that continued to get through on Kisner. Kisner landed some good shots that made Capers nose bleed, but he wasn’t as consistent or active enough to pile up the rounds. Kisner was deducted a point for holding in round seven.

Capers, 196.2 lbs of Hawley, Pennsylvania won by scores of 77-74 twice, while Kisner took a card 76-75. Capers is now 6-8-2. Kisner, 197.8 lbs of Baltimore, Maryland falls to 16-3-1.

“We are the most active promoter in New Jersey and our mission is bring world class boxing back to the boxing capital of the state and that’s Atlantic City. We are working on bringing TV into the picture in the very near future,” said Rising Promotions Thomas LaManna.

“Debbie LaManna and Rising Promotions have done a tremendous job in trying to restore Atlantic City’s reputation as a boxing town again. They seem to have found a niche by bringing local fighters who have strong fan bases to a great venue like the Claridge,” said prominent boxing writer, Dave Weinberg of The Atlantic City Press.

The next Rising Promotions card will take place on Friday, July 22 at The Claridge Hotel with the return of welterweight contender, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna in the main event.

Braekhus awarded IBF «Female fighter of the year» – hoping to finally arrange a bout in her home country

Five times World Champion and female superstar Cecilia Braekhus was thrilled after participating at the 33rd IBF convention in Beijing, China this week.

The colombian-born Norwegian holds all five titles (WBA, WBC, WBO, IBF and IBO) in the welterweight division, and is reckon as pound-for-pound the best female fighter in the world.

For her outstanding performances over eight years on the professional scene, where she as now stands with the perfect record of 28-0, she was named as IBFs «Female fighter of the Year», and received her award at the last day of the IBF convention this week.

Braekhus is the first female fighter who becomes undisputed champion of the World.

Said Braekhus after receiving the award:
– I am very proud and honoured. I am also thankful after a fantastic week in Beijing and at the different events arranged by the IBF. It has been great fun to meet some of the legends that has been here, as well as thousands of fantastic chinese boxingfans. But it has also been important to expose female boxing and female fighters. I feel that the IBF gives us the recognition we deserve.

After eight years with Sauerland Promotion Braekhus chose not to renew her contract as it expired in 2014, and has instead build up her own First Lady Promotion. Her promotion company has later teamed up with the Klitschko-brothers and their «K2», as well as IMG, the company that represents and manages some of the world’s greatest sports figures and fashion icons.

Norway lifted the ban against professional boxing in December 2014, and Braekhus, who has been forced to box out of Germany as a result of the ban, aims to be the first Norwegian to fight in Norway since the ban was determined in 1981.

– It’s been very sad for me not to be able to box in Norway. I have a lot of fans there and defending my titles in front of a home crowd would be a dream come true. Now that the ban has been lifted we just have to finalize some last details before we can bring boxing back home to Norway again, says Braekhus.

Yusopov upsets Nemkov to become new M-1 Challenge Light Heavyweight Champion

ORENBURG CITY, Russia (May 28, 2016) – Last night’s M-1 Challenge 66 event had its share of upsets, leading with a main event split decision victory by Rashid Yusopov over defending M-1 Challenge light heavyweight champion Viktor Nemkov, in Orenburg City, Russia.

Former M-1 Challenge light heavyweight champion Stephan “T-800” Puetz took a unanimous 3-round decision from Andrey Seledtsov in the co-feature.

Russian challenger Yusopov (7-2-0, M-1: 4-1-0) won a hard fought 5-round split decision over defending champion Nemkov (23-6-0, M-1: 14-5-0), fighting out of Russia by way of Kazakhstan, who was making his initial title defense.

Nemkov had captured the coveted M-1 Challenge light heavyweight title this past December, taking a 5-round decision from defending champion Puetz, who had won a 5-round split decision April, 2014 against Nemkov for the title. Nemkov is a two-time M-1 Challenge light heavyweight champion having defeated Vasily Babich (WSUB3 – arm-lock) for the vacant title that he then lost in his first title defense to Puetz.

The 23-year-old Yusupov was riding a 4-fight win streak going into his fight with Nemkov. A former Russian, European and World Amateur MMA champion, Yusupov is known as a dangerous striker whose signature moves are powerful kicks.

Puetz vs. Seledtsov was billed as “Terminator” vs. “Spetsnev” and it lived up to its name as Puetz won a unanimous 3-round decision. Puetz, of Germany, had successfully defended his M-1 Challenge light heavyweight title twice, after beating Nemkov in their original championship match, against Luis Fernando Miranda (SUB2 – choke) August 15, 2014 at M-1 Challenge 50, and Valery Myasnikov (KO/TKO2 – punches) December 17, 2014 at M-1 Challenge 54. In a non-title fight this past May, Puetz stopped then-M-1 Challenge heavyweight champion Marcin Tybura in the third round due to a severely damaged broken nose.

Seledtsov, 28, is a former Spetsnev solider known for his powerful boxing, combat samba and MMA background. A local White-Rex promotion champion, the Russian was making his M-1 Global debut.

In other M-1 Challenge 66 fights, Damir Ismagulov (7-2-0, M-1: 4-1-0) stopped Georgian lightweight Raul Tutarauli (6-3-0, M-1: 3-1-1) near the end of the third round on punches, American bantamweight Josh “The Finisher” Rettinghouse (13-4-0, M-1: 1-0-0) made an impressive M-1 Global debut when the doctor stopped his fight against Belarussian Vadim Zhlobich (4-3-0, M-1: 0-1-0) in the opening round, Timur Nagibin (8-1-0, M-1: 3-0-0) won a 3-round decision over fellow Russian countryman Mikhail Korobkov (9-1-1, M-1: 0-1-1), and Russian featherweight Movsar Evloev (3-0-0, M-1: 3-0-0) punched out Alexander Krupemkin (1-3-0, M-1: 0-1-0), fighting out of Ukraine.

27 May 2016 – Bangkok, Thailand: The largest sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), rocked the packed Impact Arena in the great city of Bangkok at ONE: KINGDOM OF CHAMPIONS. Popular Thai bands Big Ass and Bodyslam electrified the stadium with adrenaline-inducing sets as ONE athletes took to the cage to excite local fight fans in attendance. In the main event, Yoshitaka Naito of Japan was crowned the new ONE Strawweight World Champion by submitting Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke.

In the main event of ONE: KINGDOM OF CHAMPIONS, Japan’s Yoshitaka “Nobita” Naito retained his unbeaten record by toppling Thailand’s Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke, winning by submission to capture the ONE Strawweight World Championship. Dejdamrong started out very strong in the first round, keeping Naito at the end of his thudding leg kicks and powerful straight punches while successfully stuffing takedown attempts. In the second round however, Naito made an adjustment and was able to drag Dejdamrong to the mat where the Japanese fighter utilized his superior grappling skills to control his opponent. The end came in the fourth round as Naito was finally able to execute the Rear Naked Choke he had been chasing throughout the bout.

In the co-main event of the evening, reigning ONE Featherweight World Champion Marat “Cobra” Gafurov impressed with another Rear Naked Choke submission over Japanese MMA veteran Kazunori Yokota to remain unbeaten as a professional mixed martial artist. Gafurov controlled Yokota throughout the duration of the bout both in striking and grappling exchanges before securing the finish in the second round. The victory is Gafurov’s 14th straight, his fifth straight by Rear Naked Choke, and the first successful defense of his title.

In a highly-anticipated matchup between two extremely aggressive fighters, Russia’s Timofey Nastyukhin needed just six seconds to stop Australia’s Rob Lisita in the first round, tying a ONE Championship record for fastest knockout. Nastyukhin met Lisita at the center of the cage as soon as the bell rang and immediately clipped Lisita with a right hook that dropped the Aussie. Just a second later, a technical ground kick landed to seal the deal.

Polish mixed martial artist Marcin Prachnio and Brazilian Leandro Ataides pummeled each other with punishing combinations over three rounds of solid action to the delight of the packed crowd. It was a close and gruelling bout that undoubtedly left both fighters exhausted by the final bell. In the end, Prachnio showed a little more down the stretch and did just enough to edge out Ataides, winning by unanimous decision in a clash of heavy-hitters.

Local MMA star Shannon “One Shin” Wiratchai was emotional after emerging victorious over Myanmar’s Kyal Linn Aung, winning by submission for the first time in front of friends and family in his hometown of Bangkok. Wiratchai showcased his pinpoint accurate striking early on, before taking matters to the ground where Aung was at a stylistic disadvantage. After gaining mount and tagging Aung with heavy elbows, Wiratchai took his opponent’s back and secured the fight-ending choke.

Fast-rising featherweight prospect Christian “The Warrior” Lee traded lightning quick strikes with the Philippines’ Rocky “The Outlaw” Batolbatol for a little over half of the first round, winning by referee stoppage to notch his fifth straight victory inside the ONE Championship cage. Lee rocked Batolbatol with a right hand and had him pressed up against the cage where he unleashed a flurry as the Filipino fell to the canvas.

Yodsanan “Little Tyson” Sityodtong lived up to his moniker, winning by technical knockout over Cambodia’s Khon Sichan, showcasing tremendous power with each strike. Drawing cheers from the crowd after each landed blow, Sityodtong’s thunderous punches, kicks and knees proved too much for Sichan who crumbled to the mat and was finished off minutes into the first.

Cambodian fighter by way of Thailand, Kritsada “Dream Man” Konsrichai kicked off a spectacular evening of world-class mixed martial arts action at ONE: KINGDOM OF CHAMPIONS with a technical knockout victory over fellow Cambodian, Kev Hemmorlor, winning by ground and pound in the first round.

In the second preliminary bout, unbeaten strawweight prospect Pongsiri Mitsatit of Chiang Mai made quick work of Myanmar’s Ye Thway Ne, unleashing a devastating series of knees on the ground to earn the victory also in the first round.

The fighter from Augusta, Georgia turned pro in 2013 and won his first 10 fights before suffering a defeat in early 2015. DeLoach has rebounded masterfully with four wins in a row including victories over veterans Santos Benavides and Todd Manuel.

A 2012 Olympian for his native Dominican Republic, Castillo recorded a significant victory in his last bout when he defeated previously unbeaten and highly regarded Kyrone Davis over eight rounds in April. Castillo turned pro in 2013 and made his U.S. debut in December 2015 with victories over Eduardo Flores and Roland Nagy before his triumph in April.

An undefeated prospect representing Houston, Karl had an excellent amateur career that ended with him ranked third in the nation in the 141-pound division. The 24-year-old won six times in 2015 including an October domination of Alfonso Olvera at the Dancehall in San Antonio. Now he is primed to reach contender status as his competition improves beginning with the 24-year-old Solis of Mexico who comes in off of a fifth round knockout of Isidro Toala earlier this month.

Originally from St. Louis, Price’s road has led him to Houston where he now trains with Ronnie Shields. An exceptional athlete who was highly regarded in track and field as a teenager, the 26-year-old turned pro in 2013. His activity ramped up in 2015 as he took home four victories including a win in his first eight-round bout against Alvaro Ortiz in November.

A National Silver Gloves champion as an amateur, Thomas made it out of the roughest neighborhoods of Chicago and made his professional boxing debut in 2013. After winning his first six pro bouts, all in Chicago, the 23-year-old defeated Farkhad Sharipov in San Antonio in December 2015.

ANTHONY OGOGO TO FACE CHRIS HERRMANN ON SATURDAY NIGHT IN GLASGOW LIVE ON SKY SPORTS

GLASGOW (May 27, 2016) – 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist Anthony Ogogo (8-0, 4 KOs) is ready to return to the ring on Saturday, May 28 against Chris Herrmann (21-10-1, 12 KOs) at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, live on Sky Sports.

The 27 year-old has endured a difficult time with injuries since joining the professional ranks. Having returned from a long-standing Achilles problem, which saw him sidelined for 12 months, the 27 year-old dislocated his shoulder during a unanimous points win over Ruslan Schelev last July.

Now injury free, Ogogo is ready to get his promising career back on track, starting with Saturday’s event, a fight he believes will lead to the bigger challenges he craves.

Ogogo’s return is part of a huge night of action in Glasgow as Ricky Burns (39-5-1,13 KOs) looks to become a three-division world champion as he takes on Michele Di Rocco (40-1-1, 18 KOs) for the vacant WBA Super-Lightweight World Championship.

“I’m at the stage now where I would fight anybody put in front of me,” says Ogogo. “Chomping at the bit doesn’t come close to describing how I feel about boxing right now. I’ve had two of the hardest most horrible years imaginable. I’ve been through a hellacious rehab, and I’ve done it all for this moment – to get back in the ring and show the world my true ability – so I couldn’t care less if my opponent was Gennady Golovkin or Glen Smith from down the street.

“I just want to get in there, do my thing and hopefully I can deal with this guy handily and move on to the next one. Although it’s my comeback fight, it’s like I’m running a hurdles race. This is just hurdle number one and I’ve got fifty more hurdles to get over after this one. I’m not overlooking my opponent, as I know boxing can come to a sudden end with one fell swoop of a punch, but for me, this is just the first of many hurdles I must get over to make it to the top.”

Ogogo, who has already set his sights on the division’s champions, believes activity will be key in achieving his goals.

“If it was down to me I would be fighting for a title on Saturday,” he says. “I want to win titles and I want to clean up the division, but I know this will only come with activity. I’ve had eight fights in three years because I’ve had the most rotten luck imaginable, but all I need now is a nice clean bill of health and to build some momentum. Ideally, I want to be fighting every four to six weeks.

“Back in the day they were boxing every month. One of my heroes Sugar Ray Robinson fought every month – fifteen rounds here, ten rounds there – and that’s what I want to do. That’s how a fighter develops his skillset, his speed, his timing – by being busy and keeping active.

“If I can string a few fights together, I can get myself into a good position and then we can start aiming for the champions but first and foremost, I need to get back in the ring and back to what I do best. That starts with a good win on Saturday night.”

“This fight will mark a significant step along Anthony’s comeback trail,” said Golden Boy Promotion Chairman and CEO, Oscar De La Hoya. “We all know the talent and desire is there in abundance, and if Anthony can stay healthy the sky is limit for him in the middleweight division.”

“Herrmann will provide a good test for Anthony’s first fight back,” said promoter Kalle Sauerland. ”He’s an experienced fighter who has shared the ring with some quality opposition. This is a chance for Anthony to get back under the lights and to shake of the ring rust. We believe Anthony is a match for anyone in the division, and when he comes through this, the bigger fights will follow.”

Tickets for Glasgow are on general sale with those in the £40-£100 bracket available from the SSE Hydro website http://www.thessehydro.com/ and on 0844 395 4000 and 0800 952 0110 (accessible). VIP tickets at £200 are exclusively available at www.matchroomboxing.com

WSOF32 Main Card Complete with Addition of Middleweight Bout

LAS VEGAS (May 27, 2016) –World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) announced today the completion of the live NBCSN (10:30 p.m. ET/7:30 p.m. PT) televised portion of its WSOF32 world championship doubleheader, with the addition of a middleweight (185 pounds) contest between undefeated sensation Shamil Gamzatov (10-0) and red-hot finisher Louis “Put The Guns Down” Taylor (12-3).

In addition, the league announced the first WSOF32 preliminary bout, a much-anticipated rematch between a pair of unbeaten featherweight (145 pound) rivals in Hakeem “Mean” Dawodu (5-0-1) and Marat Magomedov (7-0-1).

WSOF32: Moraes vs. Hill II takes place at Xfinity Arena at Everett on Saturday, July 30. In the world bantamweight (135 pounds) championship main event, reigning kingpin Marlon Moraes (16-4) will risk his title for the second time against challenger Josh “Gentleman” Hill (14-1).

Since he made his professional debut with a second round (1:35) TKO (punches) on Murat Aibazov on January 30, 2012, the 6-foot-2, 25-year-old Gamzatov of Dagestan, Russia has been an unstoppable force, defeating all of his opponents by way of either (T)KO or submission in either the first or second round of action.

In his last start and debut inside the World Series of Fighting decagon on January 23, Gamzatov scored a thunderous, first round (2:32) TKO (punches) on Teddy Holder.

The 5-foot-11, 37-year-old Taylor of Chicago, Ill. is riding a five-fight win streak that he ignited on December 14, 2012 with a first round (4:12) KO (punch) on Joe Vedepo.

Taylor, who has earned 11 of his 12 career wins via (T)KO or submission, made an explosive promotional debut for World Series of Fighting in his last appearance at WSOF29 on March 12, finishing Cory Devela in just 29 seconds with a guillotine choke submission.

A protégé of famed Muay Thai trainer Mike Miles, the 5-foot-8, 24-year-old Dawodu of Calgary, Alberta, Canada launched his professional career inside the World Series of Fighting decagon on February 21, 2014 when he scored a first round (1:07) KO (punch) on Behrang Yousefi.

Following his successful debut, Dawodu claimed four consecutive victories – all by way of (T)KO – under the World Series of Fighting banner, before facing off with Magomedov last December 18. Following three rounds of battle, the fight was declared a majority draw.

The 5-foot-8, 25-year-old Magomedov of Dagestan is a combat Sambo specialist who has claimed all but one of his wins by way of submission, beginning with his professional debut on July 1, 2011 when he forced Dzhambulat Magomedov to tap out from a triangle choke in the first round (3:40) of their matchup.

Additional preliminary card bouts for WSOF32 will be announced soon.

Priced from $29, tickets for WSOF32: Moraes vs. Hill II are on sale at XFINITYArenaEverett.com and WSOF.com.

In the world featherweight championship co-main event, Alexandre “Capitao” Almeida (18-5) will defend his title for the first time against the fighter he took it from – Lance Palmer (10-2).

In other action on the live NBCSN telecast, costumed crime fighter Phoenix Jones (6-1-1) aka Ben Fodor of Seattle, Wash. will look to settle his rivalry with adopted brother Caros “The Future” Fodor (10-5) of Seattle in a 162-pound catchweight affair.

DODD ‘OVER THE MOON’ AT WBC INTERNATIONAL SHOT

Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd is ready to put his British title heartache behind him and break into the World scene by landing the WBC International Lightweight title against Pasquale Di Silvio at Goodison Park on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.

Dodd came close on two occasions to taking Scotty Cardle’s British crown in their meetings at the Echo Arena in November and April but fell agonisingly short on both nights.

The Birkenhead man’s stock has risen dramatically following both his fights with Cardle and his win over Gary Buckland at late notice in September to get the Cardle clash, and Dodd believes that he will finally get his hands on a title in his clash with the experienced Italian.

“I am over the moon to be on the show and to have this fight,” said Dodd. “It is great to be fighting for a title and I am excited to get in there on Sunday. It is a great card and to be a part of it on a massive night for the city.

“He is a tough Italian fella. He has done almost as many ten and 12 rounders as I have had fights. He is a little bit older than me so it could be his last chance and that could make him very dangerous. He has a lot of things in his favour and I am expecting a very hard fight.

“A win can get me a world ranking with a win and to get into the rankings so soon isn’t something I would have expected a year ago.

“Taking these opportunities has given me a life I didn’t have. I am feeling good and very hungry and I cannot wait to get back out there. I am an entertainer and I am going to rise up to this level, put on a good show and win this title.

“In the gym I am feeling confident and I feel that I have moulded into the professional lifestyle so well. I feel like I am on a level to fight Di Silvio and for the WBC International title.”

While Dodd is feeling good about his chances, the 31 year old can be forgiven for have been down in the dumps following his second meeting with Cardle last month.

Having been stopped by the Lytham St Annes man in the final round of the first contest when he was in front on the cards, Dodd and his fans were certain that he’d done enough to get the nod in the rematch only for the judges to rule the contest even – but landing a huge fight at Everton has helped Dodd get over the disappointment of the rematch.

“I know a lot of people were upset with the last decision, as was I, but it’s ancient history now, I have put it behind me and I am looking to the future,” said Dodd. “I have a bigger fight now and I am moving on and moving up.

“Decisions are out of my hands so I am more interested in how I perform. Every time I have stepped up I have performed well. In boxing it is about listening to your coaches and the tactics, not going out there all gung ho.

“Every style has a weak link so I have been listening a lot more to my coaches. I have always listened but even more so now because bigger things are at stake. I have been nailing the tactics and the performances have been showing.

“From where I have come from in the last fight, it has left a lot of hunger so I am going to go out there and grab this by both hands. It is a big opportunity and I don’t let those go by. It doesn’t get much bigger than fighting at Goodison Park.”

Dodd’s clash with Di Silvio is part of a huge night of action at Goodison Park as Tony Bellew aims to land the vacant WBC World Cruiserweight title at the home of his beloved Everton against Congo KO star Ilunga Makabu.

Stephen Smith looks to bounce straight back from his brave World title challenge by taking on Daniel Brizuela for the vacant WBC Silver Super-Featherweight title, and he’s joined on the bill by his Super-Middleweight brothers Paul and Callum.

Tom Farrell meets Kofi Yates in an eliminator for the English Super-Lightweight title, Liverpool Heavyweight favourite David Price is back in action and there’s a host of young talent on display including British Light-Heavyweight champion Hosea Burton, Preston’s Commonwealth gold medallist Scott Fitzgerald and Merseysiders JJ Metcalf, Paul Economides, Gerard Carroll, Craig Glover and Steve Brogan.

NURSE: LIMOND WON’T GET HIS BELT BACK

Tyrone Nurse has told Willie Limond to forget about a World title fight with Ricky Burns as he plots a path to land the British Super-Lightweight title outright, starting with his first defence at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow tomorrow night, live on Sky Sports.

Nurse landed the title in November having finally the better of Chris Jenkins in their second bout having drawn with the talented Welshman in July.

Former champion Limond had been set to face both Nurse and Limond during his reign but injuries and illness to the Scot and the Welshman meant he had to vacate the belt. Limond now gets his chance to regain the belt and then hopefully set-up a clash with Ricky Burns who tops the bill in his World title clash – but Nurse is here to rip up that script.

“This is boxing, there’s always a bigger picture with things happening behind the scenes,” said Nurse. “I know that if Willie wins and Ricky wins the World title, they’ll look to make that fight for a World title in Glasgow. We are not daft, we know how it works, but that’s not going to happen.

“He’s going to be so up for it too as he knows that the Burns fight is there if everything goes right, but that’s not in my plans and I am sure it’s not in Michele Di Rocco’s plans either. We’re not here to give wins away, but like I said, we’d be foolish to look at this and not see that Burns vs Limond is what they want to set up.

“There’s been a few ups and downs getting this fight on, I was meant to fight Willie a year or so ago but he got injured, and now in a sense he’s my mandatory as even though this is a voluntary, he gave the belt up so Chris and I could fight for it and deserves his chance to get it back.”

Victory over Jenkins came after 24 rounds of intense action between the pair in two fights in Manchester. The judges were unable to separate them in the first contest but Nurse was awarded the belt in their second clash by five rounds and three rounds (twice). Jenkins floored Nurse hard in the fifth round of the rematch but the 26 year old recovered well and believes he showed he’s the best fighter in the exciting 140lbs division.

“I was comfortable in there and I was having a bit of fun at times,” said Nurse. “He caught me with a great shot in the fifth round that woke me up a bit. You get hit with good shots from time to time, it happens. I recovered quickly but went onto the ropes and let him unload, but he didn’t really catch me with anything clean, certainly none of them bothered me. It just taught me to stop switching off really.

“I’ve said for a while that Chris and I are the best in the division and I proved that I’m the best. There’s some really good fights in the division, Chris will come back stronger and he’s teamed up with a great trainer in Gary Lockett, you’ve got John Wayne Hibbert, Dave Ryan, Jack Catterall is the mandatory for the British title now and then there’s Ricky at the top of the list. It’s a really exciting division and there’s some big fights out there, so keep hold of the title and see Jack off, and there’s a lot more big fights for me.

“I’d love to win this belt outright. I’ve got to get past Willie first and then Jack, he’s a very good fighter. I’m not one to look too far down the road, you have to just have to take each fight as it comes because it’s such an unpredictable sport you never know what fight could be next or what opportunity might present itself. Willie has my full respect as he’s a great fighter.”

Nurse’s clash with Limond and Burns’ shot at three-weight World title glory is part of a huge night of action in Glasgow as Newcastle’s Jon Lewis Dickinson meets Belfast’s Tommy McCarthy in an eliminator for the British Cruiserweight Title.

Olympic Bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo returns from injury, Conor Benn fights for the second time in the paid ranks, Islington Middleweight John Ryder is in action and there’s a host of young Scots on display, including Commonwealth gold medal winner Charlie Flynn, Joe Ham and Lewis Paulin.

Face value tickets for Glasgow are also be available from http://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets/. StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing and Anthony Joshua.

Welterweight Showdown Between Phil Lo Greco & Joseph Elegele Headlines Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round On Bounce TV Sunday, June 12 From The Lakeland Center in Lakeland, FL (9 p.m. ET/PT)

LAKELAND, FL. (May 26, 2016) – A battle between exciting welterweights Phil Lo Greco (27-2, 15 KOs) and Joseph Elegele (15-2, 11 KOs) will serve as the 10-round main event of Premier Boxing Champions: The Next Round on Bounce TV and BounceTV.com Sunday, June 12 from The Lakeland Center in Lakeland, FL.
Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT and will feature unbeaten Australian prospect Steve Lovett (15-0, 12 KOs) and tough contender Craig Baker (16-1, 12 KOs) in a 10-round light heavyweight showdown. The full night of action will be streamed on BounceTV.com

“I don’t know much about Elegele but I will not take him lightly,” said Lo Greco. “I am always in the gym. I enjoy fighting. This is what it’s all about, fighting on television and making a name for yourself. A win here will get me one step closer to the bigger fights.”

“People should watch me, because after this fight, I am ready to show the world that I am ready for the big fights,” said Elegele. “This win will put me towards the top and in a position to fight top fighters. This is the best I have felt in my whole career. Lo Greco is a game fighter. This is my hometown and I will have a lot of people coming out to support me and I can’t wait.”

“A win here will get me in the mix with the top contenders,” said Lovett. “I expect an entertaining fight and I am ready to go. Training camp is always good and I will be in the best shape possible on June 12. I helped Edwin Rodriguez prepare for his fight against Baker so I know him well. I am at the stage to step up to the next level”

“I’m excited about this opportunity to take on a fighter like Steve Lovett,” said Baker. “He’s highly regarded but I know that I have the skills and experience to beat him. I’m leaving it all in the ring. A win here puts me in position to get big fights so I plan on being impressive.”

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by King’s Promotions, are priced at $75, $50 and $35, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.thelakelandcenter.com or by calling 888-397-0100 and from the Lakeland Center Box Office by calling 863-834-8111 or visiting between 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“This will be a great night of boxing,” said Marshall Kauffman of King’s Promotions. “Elegele and Lo Greco is a real 50/50 fight with each guy needing a win to get to the next level. The last show at Lakeland was action packed and June 12 will be no different.”

A four-time amateur national Canadian champion, the Toronto-born Lo Greco turned pro in 2006 and quickly made a name for himself as one of the top fighters from Canada. The veteran fighter has also fought in Germany, Italy and Hungary before making his U.S. debut in 2012 by defeating Hector Orozco in Atlantic City. He racked up a 25-0 record to begin his career and his lone defeats have come to top welterweights Shawn Porter and Errol Spence Jr. In his last bout, Lo Greco stopped Pablo Munguia in the fifth-round.

After piling up an amateur record of 69-8, Elegele turned pro in 2009 and reeled off 12 victories to start his career. One of nine siblings, Elegele worked as a sparring partner for Floyd Mayweather in 2013 and has also spent time in the training camps of Adrien Broner and fellow New Haven, FL native Andre Berto, who he has known since he was 12-years-old. He owns victories over Manuel Aguilar, Angel Hernandez and Lanard Lane and most recently stopped Alex De Jesus in the sixth-round of their Bounce TV clash in January.

Born in Australia but now training in Houston with Ronnie Shields, Lovett looks to build on the momentum he has gained in 2015 with four knockouts in his five wins. The New South Wales-native has taken down veterans Kevin Engel and Samuel Miller in his last two fights as he heads into his toughest challenge in Baker.

A once-beaten fighter who turned pro in 2008, Baker enters this fight having four of his last five opponents inside the distance. The Baytown, TX native took home victories over Anthony Greeley and Sergio Cordoba in 2014 and kicked off 2015 by knocking out highly regarded Umberto Savigne. Now, Baker looks to bounce back from a defeat to Edwin Rodriguez when he enters the ring on June 12.

Lucian Bute’s anti-doping test statement

Lucian Bute
MONTRÉAL (May 26, 2016) – Lucian Bute was informed of the results of the anti-doping test done after his World Boxing Council (WBC) world title fight against Badou Jack, April 30, in Washington, D.C.

As reported in a statement sent by the WBC, the Washington D.C. Boxing and Wrestling Commission informed them that Bute tested positive for Ostarine, in an A sample analysis, after the bout.

”I am surprised and sorry about this. I don’t understand what led to this positive result, Bute said. “I have always passed every anti-doping test that I was asked to take since I won a world title. More recently for my fight against James DeGale, in Quebec City, last November, I was tested eight times from before my training camp until after my fight. I have never taken any illegal products. I have a complete trust in my team. There will be an analysis of the B sample and I am sure that this result will be negative.”

”GYM has always been strongly in favor of a strict anti-doping policy to keep the sport of boxing clean,” GYM president Yvon Michel remarked. “We are really surprised by this first result and we now hope that the B sample proves that the first result was wrong. Until then, we support Lucian Bute.”

There will be no further comments on this subject until the publication of Bute’s B sample result.

COMPLETE CARD ANNOUNCED FOR UPCOMING BROADWAY BOXING IN QUEENS

New York, NY (5/26/16) – As previously announced, on Friday, June 3, Broadway Boxing returns to the beautiful Resorts World Casino New York City in Queens, NY, featuring former world champions Richar Abril (19-3-1, 8KO’s) and Yuri Foreman (33-2, 9KO’s) headlining in separate bouts. The exciting 10-bout card is presented by DiBella Entertainment and New Legend Boxing and sponsored by Nissan of Queens. Abril is set to take on the always-tough, former world title challenger and now resurgent contender Jerry Belmontes (21-8, 6KO’s) in a 10-round super lightweight showdown, while Foreman squares off against Jason Davis in an eight-round junior middleweight matchup.

Anytime undefeated light heavyweight Mike Lee (16-0, 10KO’s) steps in the ring, he does so behind an army of adoring fans. The Notre Dame graduate Lee is set to make his second appearance in 2016 when he takes on Mike Snider in an eight-round light heavyweight matchup.

The Chicago-native Lee graduated from the esteemed University in 2009, but not before claiming three Bengal Bout championships while fighting on the University’s boxing team. Following his graduation, Lee won the 2009 Chicago Golden Gloves before embarking on his professional career in 2010. Since his debut, Notre Dame Alumni from across the U.S. have come out in droves to show support for their favorite son. In September 2011, Lee became a national spokesman for Subway Restaurants and continues to be prominently featured in their nationally broadcast “Famous Fan” advertising campaigns. In 2011, Lee headlined the first-ever pro boxing event at the University of Notre Dame, donating more than $100,000 to Notre Dame Charities through The Mike Lee Foundation.

Returning to action for the first time since his sensational knockout performance on ShoBox is undefeated prospect Steve Rolls (13-0, 7KO’s) as he squares off against Emmanuel Sanchez (7-4, 1KO) in an eight-round super middleweight matchup. Making his ShoBox and national TV debut in December, the Canadian Rolls scored a scintillating, come-from-behind fourth-round knockout over fellow undefeated prospect and UK National champion Steed Woodall.

Also making his 2016 debut on the card will be hard-hitting Queens-native Joseph Williams (8-0 6KO’s) as he takes on Lamar Harris in a six-round cruiserweight matchup. A 2011 US Olympic Team Trials silver medalist, Williams won the 2012 National Golden Gloves heavyweight title and was three-time NY Golden Gloves champion before turning pro. Williams was a perfect 5-0 in 2015 with three of those wins coming by way of devastating knockout and will be looking to improve to 9-0 when he takes on Harris.

Female world-rated contender Alicia Napoleon (5-0, 4KO’s) will look to continue on her path of destruction through the world rankings when she takes on Latasha Burton in an eight-round junior middleweight matchup. A devastating puncher, Napoleon claimed the vacant WBC silver junior middleweight title in her last bout and is determined to secure a shot at a world title sometime this year.

Making his NYC debut will be former amateur standout and two-time National Golden Gloves champion Marquis Moore (1-0, 1KO). Campaigning at middleweight, Moore, a member of the U.S. Army, who was honorably discharged after serving three years for our country, had an outstanding amateur career, compiling a 140-15 record. Moore also claimed the National PAL championship in 2015 and boxed at the U.S. Olympic trials. Moore’s fight on June 3 is scheduled for four rounds.

Popular Brooklyn-native prospect Julian Sosa (4-0-1, 2KO’s) is also set to see action on the card when he competes in a six-round welterweight contest.

Also appearing on the card will be Bronx-native and 2014 NY Golden Gloves heavyweight champion George Arias (5-0, 3KO’s) in a six-round bout.

Rounding out the card will be Staten Island’s James Wilkins as he makes his much-anticipated pro debut when he takes on Erick Lainez in a four-round junior lightweight matchup.

Tickets are priced at $125 ringside, $75 reserved seating and $50 general admission. Tickets may be purchased by calling DiBella Entertainment at (212) 947-2577. Tickets may also be purchased at the door on the night of the fight. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7 p.m.

Cruiserweight contender Nick Kisner ready for Boardwalk debut this Friday night at the Claridge in Atlantic City

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (May 26, 2016)–THIS Friday night, May 27th, a big night of boxing will kick off a holiday weekend at The Claridge in Atlantic City as Rising Promotions will present a terrific card of boxing.

In the main event, It will be about New Jersey bragging rights as Isiah Seldon will take on Eddie Edmond in a bout scheduled for six-rounds.

In a one of the undercard bout, Baltimore-based cruiserweight contender, “Slick” Nick Kisner will take on Lamont Capers.

Kisner, who was a prized amateur that saw him become a 3-time National Silver Gloves champion, a 2-time National junior Golden Gloves champion and a Ringside World championship, just to name a few of his big wins in the non-paying ranks.

The 25 year-old has a record of 16-2-1 with six knockouts.

“I have had a very good training camp,” said Kisner. “Capers is a tough and durable opponent. He has been in with some very good fighters, but I am very confident about getting the win on Friday.”

Kisner has won two in a row since his highest profile bout to date when he dropped a ten round unanimous decision to former two-time world title challenger Lateef Kayode,

In that bout, Kisner fought well and had some moments in the bout, but came up just short in a fight that seemed closer then the official scorecards.

“I learned a lot about in that fight. I went 10-rounds for the first time. I did that against one of the best fighters in the divisions. That was the fight where, also learned the best way to get down to 200 pounds. Before that fight, I would kill myself to make the weight.”

That training regimen has worked so well, that Kisner is now contemplating a move to light heavyweight.

“That is the plan. In fact, if everything goes well on Friday, that I am looking at a big name at light heavyweight in August.”

But first, he has to deal with Capers, not far from Kisner’s hometown of Baltimore.

“I am excited to be fighting in Atlantic City. It is one of the big stages in boxing. Come Friday, I am going to put on a great show, and I am going to show the world that I am great fighter. I have learned from my previous fights. I have matured and on Friday, people will see that I am on the best fighters in the world.”

In a six-round co-feature, one of the most popular fighter’s from the shore area, Light Heavyweight Chuck Mussachio will be back in the ring after a 39-month lay off when he takes on Willis Lockett in a rematch of a bout that that ended in a draw on September 19, 2008.

Fighting Professionally in his Hometown for the First Time this Friday, Nick Casal to Make First Ring Appearance in Nearly Five Years

A familiar name, especially to the local boxing fans, will make his first ring appearance in just under five years this Friday night in his own hometown of Niagara Falls, New York.

Former red-hot prospect Nick “Hands of Gold” Casal (22-4-1, 17 KOs) says he’s expecting some rust, but should have enough to overcome when he takes on 37-fight veteran Antonio Chaves Fernandez of Brockton, Massachusetts, in one of the untelevised supporting bouts at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino. The fight will be Casal’s first at home as a professional.

In the night’s 10-round main event, WBO #11-, WBA #12- and IBF #15-rated heavyweight boxer Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (16-0-1, 14 KOs), defends his WBA NABA Heavyweight title against Topeka, Kansas, slugger Nick Guivas (12-3-2, 9 KOs). And in the 10-round lightweight semi-final, red-hot Filipino prospect Harmonito “El Huracan de Gensan” Dela Torre (17-0, 12 KOs) will make his debut on US soil against capable veteran Guillermo Sanchez (15-18-1, 6 KOs) of Buffalo.

Presented by Greg Cohen Promotions, Salita Promotions, FightCard Productions and Winner Take All Productions, “Championship Boxing on CBS Sports Network” will be broadcast live nationally at 9 pm EST.

Tickets for “Championship Boxing on CBS Sports Network” start at $35 and are available at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino box office, www.ticketmaster.com or you can charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

30-year-old Casal was headed for big things in boxing before suffering a loss of focus and all four of his losses in a two-year stretch from 2007 to 2009. Since then, inactivity has been the name of his game.

So where was he and why wasn’t he fighting?

“I never really left,” said Casal during a break in one of his final training sessions. “I’ve been working full-time for the last three years, but I was ready to go and trying to get a fight the whole time. I had a number of them fall through. I had one fight fall through at the weigh-in when a guy failed his physical. That was heartbreaking. But now, I finally have a team in place that can keep them from falling through and I’m glad to be finally getting back in the ring.”

Casal says he’s basically the same talented fighter he always was… with a few improvements.

“Physically, I feel exactly the same as I did five years ago. Mentally, I would say I’m a little stronger and a lot more patient than I was when I was younger. I set my shots up a lot better. I don’t think the ring rust will be as bad as it is for other guys who take a lot of time off. I’ve been in the gym training fighters and working out the whole time. I expect to have a little bit of rust, but not as much as someone who was completely out for years. I picture it going very well if I stick to my game plan and stay very focused.”

Working with father Ray at their Casal’s Boxing Club Gym in Niagara Falls since February, Casal says he will now compete in the welterweight division and expects to take an aggressive approach to getting back on track.

“I want to win a few regional titles and then earn a world title shot. Around this time next year, I’d like to be in some important fights.”

Casal says he owes his apparent resurgence to promoter Greg Cohen, with whom he signed earlier this year.

“He’s a great promoter and does shows in my hometown. I’ve never fought here as a professional. I fought in Buffalo a few times in 2011, but never fought here. That was important to me. People are calling like crazy for tickets. I’m excited to get it on. With the crowd behind me, I’ll be 100% ready. I’ve just been waiting for the right guy to help me get to where I want to be. Looks like I found him.”

On fight night, doors open at 6 pm and the action starts at 7:00 pm. The Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino is located at 310 4th Street in Niagara Falls, NY. For more information, call 877-873-6322 or visit www.senecaniagaracasino.com.
