GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS KICKS OFF BIG SOCAL FIGHT WEEKEND WITH SPECIAL EDITION OF LA FIGHT CLUB FEATURING RONNY RIOS TAKING ON EFRAIN ESQUIVIAS ON JUNE 3 FROM DOWNTOWN LA’S BELASCO THEATER

LOS ANGELES (May 18, 2016) – Los Angeles fight fans will be in for a treat as Golden Boy Promotions kicks off the summer with a big fight weekend with local fan favorite Ronny Rios (25-1, 10 KOs) back in the ring for the first time since defeating Jayson “La Maravilla” Velez on the Cotto vs. Canelo undercard last November. The 126-pound contender, will make his LA FIGHT CLUB debut on Friday, June 3 against Efrain Esquivias (17-4-1, 10 KOs) at downtown Los Angeles’ historic Belasco Theater live nationally on Estrella TV’s Boxeo Estelar.

This 10-round main event of the popular fight series kicks off an exciting weekend of fistic action in the Los Angeles area that will be capped off by the Saturday, June 4 showdown between WBC World Super Featherweight Champion Francisco “El Bandido” Vargas (23-0-1, 17 KOs) and Orlando “Siri” Salido (43-13-3, 30 KOs) at StubHub Center in Carson.

“This is a big weekend for boxing in Southern California, and I can’t wait to see these fights on June 3 and June 4,” said Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO Oscar De La Hoya. “We’re beginning with the return of Ronny Rios on June 3 at LA FIGHT CLUB featuring some of the top talent in this area, and on Saturday, June 4 the StubHub Center will host, what I think will be an early pick for Fight of the Year, Francisco Vargas vs. Orlando Salido. This is a great time to be a boxing fan and a great way to kick off the summer in Southern California.”

Also on June 3, unbeaten super lightweight prospect Zachary “Zungry” Ochoa (14-0, 6 KOs) will return to LA FIGHT CLUB for the second time to face Luis Joel Gonzalez (11-3-1, 6 KOs) in an eight-round co-main event. Opening the televised broadcast, LA FIGHT CLUB will host its first female bout with women’s boxing sensation Seniesa Estrada (6-0, 1 KO) in a six-round flyweight bout against an opponent soon to be announced.

Additionally, returning favorites Rafael “El Alikin” Gramajo (7-1-1, 2 KOs) will return to the ring in a six-round bantamweight bout; Tenochtitlan “T-Dog” Nava (1-0) will also take to the ring in a four-round super featherweight brawl and Pablo “The Shark” Rubio Jr. (5-0, 3 KOs) will engage in a four-round super bantamweight fight in front of their local fans on June 3. Opponents will be announced shortly.

Ronny Rios vs. Efrain Esquivias is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, BORN BOLD, Casa Mexico Tequila and Carmelita Chorizo. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the first bout begins at 5:30 p.m. The Estrella TV Boxeo Estelar broadcast will air live on Friday, June 3at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT and will stream live simultaneously on estrellaTV.com and on YouTube via Fenomeno Studios: youtube.com/FenomenoStudios. The Ring TV live stream will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. PT through 7:00 p.m.

Santa Ana’s Ronny Rios has gone from amateur star to legitimate world title threat in the span of eight years. After his recent win over the previously unbeaten Velez, he is closing in on his shot at glory at 126 pounds. Owner of wins over Roger “Speedy” Gonzalez, David Rodela, Rico “Suavecito” Ramos and Leonilo “Veneno” Miranda, the popular 26-year-old is currently ranked fourth in the world by the WBC and seventh by the IBF.

A hard-nosed battler from Gardena, California, 32-year-old Efrain Esquivias can make a major statement if he defeats Rios on June 3. A former National Golden Gloves champion who has competed professionally since 2007, Esquivias has experienced ups and downs over the years, but big wins over the likes of Rafael Marquez and Fernando “Wary” Beltran prove that when he’s on top of his game, he can beat anyone willing to stand across the ring from him.

Proud Brooklyn, New York native Zachary “Zungry” Ochoa built his reputation on the tough local circuit in the Big Apple, but since 2015, the 23-year-old has taken his show on the road, winning fights in Texas, Puerto Rico, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. In October of last year, he thrilled fans at The Belasco Theater with a third round stoppage of Alejandro “Soma” Rodriguez, and he’s looking for a similarly spectacular outcome this June.

Fighting out of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Luis Joel Gonzalez is seeking a return to his winning ways after tough decision losses to Mike “Yes Indeed” Reed and Clarence Booth in 2015. Before that, the 26-year-old southpaw was impressive in winning 11 of his first 13 bouts, and he expects to give Ochoa all he can handle in his California debut.

Opening up the televised portion of the card will be unbeaten East LA native Seniesa Estrada, who will fight for the first time at LA FIGHT CLUB. A former amateur star, the 23-year-old flyweight has captivated fight fans in her home state, and she will attempt to keep her perfect record intact in a six-round bout against an opponent to be named.

Winner of six straight bouts, Westside Boxing Club star and super bantamweight Rafael Gramajo makes his fourth LA FIGHT CLUB appearance against an opponent to be named, and after handing Sharone Carter his first professional loss in March, momentum is certainly on this LA native’s side.

Nicknamed “The Shark,” 19-year-old super bantamweight Pablo Rubio has been a terror to all opponents he’s faced since turning pro in 2015. A Belasco Theater veteran who has fought all his professional fights at the venue, Rubio is coming off an April win over Juan Carlos Benavides.

In the opener, scheduled for four rounds in the super featherweight division, Tenochtitlan “T-Dog” Nava will look to make it two for two as a professional when he faces a to be determined opponent in front of his hometown fans in LA.

Tickets for LA FIGHT CLUB starting at only $20 with Flex Passes for multiple fight packages, Group Tickets and Knockout Experience upgrade are available for purchase now at www.goldenboypromotions.com, the Golden Boy Promotions Facebook page, by calling 213-233-2957 or by emailing LAFightClub@goldenboypromotions.com. Baltimore Boxing’s Donald Wallace to make pro debut Saturday in Virginia

Baltimore, MD (May 18, 2016) – Baltimore Boxing middleweight prospect “Dangerous” Donald Wallace is slated to make his pro debut against fellow newcomer Brian Straus in a four round match up Saturday evening at the ABC Sports Complex in Springfield, VA.

In the last year, Wallace went from a virtual unknown to a respected up and comer in the notoriously tough Baltimore-Maryland-DC region. A participant in the 2016 Olympic Qualifiers, Wallace exceeded expectations but ultimately came up short after dropping a debatable decision to well-regarded Sharif Rahman.

Since the defeat to Rahman, Wallace has been fighting with a chip on his shoulder and the kind of hunger necessary to make it in a sport brutal as boxing. Now that his brief but successful amateur career is behind him, Wallace is focused on his future in the paid ranks.

“I’m excited and have been working on getting my weight down,” said Wallace. “My last few amateur fights I fought too heavy but that’s no longer an issue. I’ve already had experience boxing without the headgear during the Olympic Qualifiers so I’m not worried about that aspect. I actually like that the gloves are smaller in the pros because I’m looking for a knockout or stoppage in the first round to enter the pros in style!”

Jake Smith, Wallace’s manager and trainer, has been involved in the fight game for more than three decades and is a firm believer in him.

“Donald came to me with no experience but the desire to learn and improve. He is an incredibly hard worker and has come very far in a short period of time. I believe his work ethic alone will take him places in this sport and I’m looking forward to Saturday night.”

Tickets are available by calling 410-375-9175.

Fans can interact with Donald on Twitter @Wallytbe and for more information on Baltimore Boxing, visit Baltimoreboxing.com.

HATTON: “RELIKH IS READY FOR A WORLD TITLE SHOT”

RICKY HATTON believes Kiryl Relikh should be granted a shot at the WBA super-lightweight title following his demolition of Brazil’s Joaquin Carneiro Batista in Bolton, England on Friday night (May 13).

The hard-hitting Belarusian, defending successfully his WBA Intercontinental super-lightweight title, was dominant from the outset and rocked Carneiro’s head back several times.

As the sessions progressed, Relikh’s unleashed further heavy artillery and in the fourth round Carneiro’s corner raised the towel to pull their man out.

Kiryl Relikh, who has a perfect record of 21 contests, 21 wins with 19 inside, is currently ranked at number four in the world’s WBA ratings, and Hatton feels he should have been nominated to fight number one rated Michele Di Rocco for the vacant world title ahead of Ricky Burns, who is rated at number seven.

“I think Kiryl showed his class and I believe he should have gotten the fight with Di Rocco, but I can’t blame Burns and his team for negotiating the fight as they are doing what is best for them,” Hatton stated.

“We’re entitled to take the winner of Burns and Di Rocco within ninety days of their contest and we’ll be ready for either of them.

“Personally, I hope Burns wins and does Scotland proud and then we can hopefully get a shot at him.

“Kiryl’s a man in a hurry. He wants to fight everybody so I don’t think he’ll have any problems going in against Burns or anyone else at the weight.

“He’s go 19 stoppages from 21 fights now, but I think people will be pleasantly surprised when they see him step up a level to world class because I don’t think he’s shown half of what he’s got yet, his fights have been over that quickly.”

REID: “I’M ALL ABOUT SPEED, POWER AND KNOCKOUTS”

Red-hot Hackney Super-Bantamweight prospect Lucien Reid is delighted to have signed a three year a promotional deal with Frank Warren. Undefeated Reid, 4-1 3 KO’s, makes his eagerly-anticipated BoxNation debut in a four round contest at the home of boxing York Hall on June 10.

‘Lethal’ Lucien enjoyed a glittering amateur career, winning a national junior novice title with Repton ABC before switching to West Ham ABC, where he reached another junior final and again won a London ABA title. The former Senior ABA Elite Champion and England international is promising BoxNation viewers explosive entertainment.

“I’m all about speed, power and knockouts. I’m looking to impress on June 10th because I haven’t boxed in five months and I need to start stepping up my career now I’m in the mandatory position for the Southern Area and English titles. I’ll be looking to have a go at them in the next four months so I need a good performance on June 10th to put me in good stead,” said Reid.

Reid learnt his trade at the famous Repton and West Ham amateur boxing clubs and says he can stand and trade or box and move. Managed by Peter Sims, Reid joins an action-packed York Hall card and is prepared for whoever he steps in the ring with.

Reid said: “I started off at Repton and then moved to West Ham after 6 years so I’ve learnt both styles. Repton was a very classy boxing style and West Ham was a very gruelling, hard-core fighter style so I’ve learnt both styles which has put me in good stead. If anyone wants to try and come at me I can box and if anyone wants to try and move I can fight as well.”

22 year-old Reid, a proud father to 2 year-old son Hudson Beau, is looking forward to taking his career to the next level under Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren and is driven by the desire to make his son proud.

He said: “I just want to get as many titles as I can to show my little boy. That’s what it’s all about; impressing my little boy. I want to be able to take home belts like when I was an amateur and see his face light up. I want to win more!”

Warren said: “Lucien comes from great fighting stock and has already shown his promise with three impressive knockouts in his first four professional fights. His speed and power make for an exciting fighting style and he’s capable of mixing it up. Under the guidance of our team Lucien can take his career onto the next level.”

Enzo Maccarinelli headlines an action-packed night of boxing where he challenges Dmytro Kucher for the Vacant European Cruiserweight Championship. Red-hot Mitchell Smith makes his eagerly anticipated return to an action in an eight rounder, English Light-Heavyweight Champion Tom Baker fights over ten rounds and Light-Heavyweight monster Anthony Yarde goes in search of another KO. Top prospects Lyon Woodstock, D.P Carr, Billy Long, Jez Smith, Charlie Duffield, Nathaniel Wilson and pro-debutant Ryan Garner all feature.

Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.co.uk and Eventim.co.uk at prices of £40 and £60.

Undefeated Knockout Artist Artur Beterbiev Returns to Take On Light Heavyweight Contender Ezequiel Maderna In Main Event Of Premier Boxing Champions Live On ESPN & ESPN Deportes Saturday, June 4 From Bell Center in Montreal (11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT)

MONTREAL (May 18, 2016) – Unbeaten light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs) will battle veteran Argentine Olympian Ezequiel Maderna (23-2, 15 KOs) in a 12-round showdown that headlines Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes Saturday, June 4 from Bell Center in Montreal.

Televised coverage begins at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT and features an exciting co-main event that sees a pair of undefeated rising contenders enter the ring as Florida’s Bryant Perrella (13-0, 12 KOs) squares-off against Washington, D.C.’s David Grayton (14-0, 10 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight bout. PBC on ESPN returns for the first of seven fight nights between June 4 and August 12 that will feature exciting and competitive battles.

“I have never been out of the ring for a whole year as an amateur or professional so I can’t wait to fight,” said Beterbiev. “We’ve watched some tapes of Maderna and he seems like a complete fighter. We will be ready on June 4.”

“I’m working very hard in preparation of this fight,” said Maderna. “My goal is to fight a perfect fight that will be very important to my professional future.”

“I’m excited for an opportunity to take on a young undefeated lion who’s looking to become a world champion like myself,” said Perrella. “We’re grinding away every day at training camp. We have some new things we’re working on because we know he’s going to come at me hard. I’m ready to either box or brawl. Either way, I’m coming out on top.”

“I’m ready to get in the ring and put on a great performance,” said Grayton. “Training is going well and I’ve had lots of good sparring and conditioning. We know we have a rangy southpaw who’s going to be tough. It’s about whoever wants it the most and I bet I’ll be hungrier. When I get the win, the sky is the limit.”

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM), are on sale at the Bell Centre box office, on www.evenko.ca, at GYM (514) 383-0666) or at Champion boxing club (514) 376-0980.

“We will launch the Grand Prix activities, which is the biggest sports week in Montreal, with this card,” said Yvon Michel, President of GYM. “Artur is the next boxing superstar in Quebec. He injured his shoulder, but the surgery fixed everything. We plan for him to fight three times in 2016. We want Sergey Kovalev by the end of the year or beginning of 2017.”

Beterbiev returns to his adopted homeland after last fighting in June 2015 and recovering from a shoulder surgery. A two-time Russian Olympian, Beterbiev has fought out of Montreal for his professional career that began in 2013. The 31-year-old has sent all of his opponents out within the distance including dominating performances over former world champions Tavoris Cloud and Gabriel Campillo.

Maderna turned pro in 2008 after representing his native Argentina in the 2008 Olympics and was unbeaten in his first 19 fights before losing a narrow decision to Edwin Rodriguez. Both of the 29-year-old’s defeats have come to unbeaten fighters and he enters this fight on a three bout winning streak including a first round knockout of Rolando Mansilla his last time out.

An undefeated 27-year-old out of Fort Myers, Florida, Perrella comes in off a second round stoppage of Ramon Ayala in January. He picked up five knockouts in a row in 2015 and looks to make it 11 in a row overall when he faces his toughest test yet on June 4.

A Washington D.C. product, Grayton was a National Golden Gloves Champion who beat Errol Spence Jr. on his way to picking up that title. The 28-year-old entered the professional ranks in 2012 and is unbeaten since. He began 2016 with a stoppage of Daniel Souza Santos in January and now looks to make his mark in a competitive welterweight battle.

Fedosov has been idle nursing some lingering injuries since winning the Boxcino finals, when he stopped Donovan Dennis in eight rounds on May 22, 2015.

Now he is back training at the Wild Card Gym and ready to take on Heredia.

“I’ve been sparring with some of the best heavyweights in the world and I feel after this fight, I will fight one of the big names if not one of the champions in the heavyweight division. I will be ready to fight for a title after this fight.”

Fedosov, who is currently ranked No. 9 by the WBA, will be defending his WBA Fedelatin title.

Heredia of Distrital, Federal, Mexico has a record of 11-1 with nine knockouts (1-2, 1 KO in WSB) was slated to compete in the Boxcino tournament before an injury took him out of the competition before it started.

Provodnikov-Molina Jr. will headline a tripleheader live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) that will also feature a WBC Super Welterweight Elimination bout between Demetrius Andrade and Willie Nelson, plus a battle for the vacant WBC Lightweight World Championship that will pit No. 1 Dejan Zlaticanin against No. 2 Emiliano Marsili.

“We’ve always planned on making history and the time is now,” said Jermall. “I need him to go in there and do his job and at the end of the night, we’ll both have our hands raised.”

M-1 Grand Prix Middleweight Championship Vyacheslav Vasilevsky replaces injured Ramazan Emeev vs. Alexander Shlemenko

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (May 17, 2016) – Former M-1 Challenge light heavyweight and middleweight champion Vyacheslav Vasilevsky (28-4-0, M-1: 10-2-0) has stepped up to replace injured Ramazan Emeev against Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko (52-9-0, M-1: 3-0-0) in the final of the M-1 Grand Prix Middleweight Tournament, headlining
M-1 Challenge 68, June 16 at Yubileyny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Emeev (14-3-0, M-1: 8-1-0) suffered a torn ligament in his elbow during training camp. In a M-1 Challenge Grand Prix Middleweight Tournament semifinals match last February, Vasilevsky lost a majority decision to Shlemenko in the M-1 Challenge 64 Fight of the Night.

“We were in a very difficult situation after Ramazan Emeev got injured,” M-1 Global president Vadim Finkelchtein explained. “The whole event was in jeopardy. So, now, we’re grateful to Vyacheslav Vasilevsky for agreeing to step in and face Shlemenko in our M-1 Grand Prix finals being held on his (Vasilevsky) birthday.

“Due to our contract obligations, we were unable to postpone the event because it is officially included in the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, which is something every one of our fighters knew from the very beginning. There’s a paragraph in the Grand Prix fighters’ contract stating we can use one of the guys who fought in the semifinals of the tournament in case someone gets injured. Now we’re making one of the most anticipated rematches in the history of Russian MMA.”

M-1 Challenge heavyweight champion Alexander “Drago” Volkov (25-6-0, M-1: 9-3-0) will make his first title defense against Attila “Pumuklo” Vegh (29-6-2, M-1: 0-0-0) at M-1 Challenge 68. A match between Russian middleweight Valery “The Russian Hammer” Myasnikov (10-1-1, M-1: 1-1-1) and Spanish veteran Enoc Solves Torres (18-9-0, M-1: 5-6-0) has also been announced for the June 16th card.

“The M-1 Challenge 68 event is going to be huge,” Finkelchtein added. “We’re stacking the card with Alexander Volkov vs Attila Vegh fighting in an M-1 Challenge heavyweight title fight. The Grand Prix winner, Shlemenko still gets $50,000. As for Ramazan Emeev, we will put efforts into arranging his fight with Alexander Shlemenko this fall, if Shlemenko is still fighting in Russia. Emeev versus Shlemenko will provide the answer to all of the questions MMA fans still arguing about.”

M-1 Challenge 68 will be streamed live from St. Petersburg in high definition on www.M1Global.TV. Viewers will be able to watch the preliminary fights and main card by logging on to register at www.M1Global.TV. Fans may watch all of the action on their computers, as well as on Android and Apple smart phones and tablets.

Upcoming M-1 Global Events:

May 27 – M-1 Challenge 66: Nemkov vs. Yusopov, Orenburg City, Russia
June 4 – M-1 Challenge 67: Buchinger vs. Idrisov, Baku, Azerbaijan

FARRAG VOWS TO TEACH GUERFI BOXING LESSON

Liverpool’s European Bantamweight Champion Ryan Farrag has vowed to teach France’s Karim Guerfi a boxing lesson when the rivals battle it out on the mouth-watering June 4 Echo Arena show, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

27 year-old Farrag, 15-1-0 4 KO’s, beat Belgium’s two-weight world title challenger Stephane Jamoye in his own back yard to claim the vacant EBU European Bantamweight title last October. Many labelled Ryan as the massive underdog going into the fight but the Scouser upset the bookmakers and showed his class to defeat Jamoye by TKO in the ninth round.

There is no love lost between Farrag and his European challenger Guerfi. Frenchman Guerfi, 23-3-0 6 KO’s, is determined to get his hands back on the EBU European title he lost to Zhanat Zhakiyanov back in 2014 and has promised to KO Farrag and reclaim his belt.

Speaking to IFL TV Farrag said: “Karim messaged me on Instagram two weeks before my last fight. I think he was trying to get in my head, I’m not sure what he was playing at! He asked if I was going to defend or vacate my European title. I wasn’t happy with him messaging me so close to my fight so I told him I’d teach him a boxing lesson!”

“He replied saying he’d knock me out! There’s a little bit of back and forth but it’s all banter to me. None of that means anything to me, what matters to me is what happens in the ring and I believe I’ve got the tools to take Karim out and move on,” Farrag added.

“I’ve got ambitions to become a world champion and little things like that aren’t going to get to me. I’ve matured a lot as a fighter over the past couple of years and I know where I want to be and what I’ve got to do to get there.”

European conqueror Farrag returned to home soil in March where he disposed of Bulgaria’s Stefan Slavchev with a crippling second round body shot. Now the Merseyside man is looking forward to fighting on another talent-stacked Liverpool show.

He said: “It means everything to be boxing back at home in Liverpool in front of my own fans. This is the stuff that you dream of when you start out in boxing; defending the European title on a show stacked with Scousers. It doesn’t get much better than that.”

A mouth-watering night of action is headlined by Liam Smith’s world title defence against Predrag Radosevic. Ellesmere Port star Paul Butler defend his WBO International Super-Flyweight belt against Petchbarngborn Kokietgym, should he win Butler will be guaranteed mandatory position with the WBO. South African super-puncher Zolani Tete makes his eagerly anticipated return to Liverpool to defend his IBF International Bantamweight title. Jazza Dickens takes on Spain’s Abigail Medina for the Vacant EBU European Super-Bantamweight Championship. A top undercard sees Tom Stalker, Liam Williams, Steven Lewis, Josh Leather and Declan Geraghty all in action.

BOXNATION TO AIR LIGHT-MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD TITLE TRIPLEHEADER THIS WEEKEND WITH ERISLANDY LARA V VANES MARTIROSYAN, JERMALL CHARLO V AUSTIN TROUT & TWIN BROTHER JERMELL CHARLO AGAINST JOHN JACKSON

Erislandy Lara
LONDON (May 17, 2016) – BoxNation will air a world title tripleheader exclusively live this weekend as the light-middleweight division takes centre stage.

Cuban hotshot Erislandy Lara rematches U.S. Olympian and top contender Vanes Martirosyan as he puts his WBA light-middleweight world title on the line at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas this Saturday night.

The pair met previously in 2012 in an intriguing matchup with neither man claiming the victory as the judges scored it a draw after the fight was stopped in the ninth round due to an accidental headbutt that caused a cut to the eye of Martirosyan.

Both men will now be looking to settle an old score and are out to stake their claim in a division stacked with top talent, including Liverpool’s Liam Smith who is set to defend his WBO world title exclusively live on BoxNation on June 4th.

“I’m looking forward and I’m excited to be making my 2016 debut in the boxing capital of Las Vegas come May 21,” said Lara. “I can’t wait to get in the ring as I have unfinished business to take care of with Vanes. I’m the champion and will remain the champion. I will leave no doubt who the better fighter is and will show the world that I’m the best fighter in the 154-pound division.”

“Erislandy Lara and I have unfinished business from our first fight,” said Martirosyan. “I had him beat that night and I’ll beat him on Saturday night. My time is now and I know I will be the new champion of the world on May 21.”

The card also sees IBF light-middleweight world champion Jermall Charlo out in action as he faces his toughest fight to date when he squares up against former world champion Austin Trout.

Trout has shared the ring with some of boxing’s biggest names including Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto and will be looking to make a major comeback to the 154-pound division with a victory over the so far undefeated Charlo.

Twin brother Jermell will also feature on the night when he takes on the big-punching John Jackson, son of one of boxing’s hardest hitters Julian Jackson, for the vacant WBC light-middleweight world title.

25-year-old Charlo like his sibling is undefeated and will be making his first stab at the world title.

“This will be a history-making, record-breaking night for the Charlo twins,” said Jermall Charlo. “It means everything to us to be able to fight in two championship fights on the same card. This is everything we’ve ever dreamed of. This is going to be a great night of boxing and I’m preparing myself for war. Austin Trout is a seasoned vet. He’s fought world champions and beaten a future Hall of Famer in Miguel Cotto. This is one of my biggest fights to date, but I’m preparing the same way I always do. I’m going to be on my ‘A’ game. I’m ready to make history.”

“I’m extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to fight for the world title on May 21,” said Trout. “It’s a twice-in-a-lifetime chance for a second world title and I’m going to take full advantage of it. I’ve sat at the champions’ table before and am ready to go back again and eat from it again. Destiny brought me here not to lose, but to win. I’m going to show up and show out and win this world title.”

“This is a huge fight for me,” said Jermell Charlo. “It’s my first opportunity to fight for a title and my brother is on the same card defending his belt. There have never been identical twin brothers that are both world champions in the same weight class. We’re going to go out there and make history and send a message to the whole division. I’m excited to get in the ring and I know John Jackson is too. This is an important time in my career and I will be well prepared. Let the best man win.”

“I’m very grateful for this opportunity to become a world champion,” said Jackson. “I’ve been training very hard for the last two months for this fight and come Saturday night I will be victorious over Jermell Charlo and realise my lifelong dream of becoming a world champion, like my dad, the great Julian Jackson.”

SMITH EYES BROOK SHOWDOWN AFTER RADOSEVIC

WBO World Super-Welterweight king Liam Smith wants a huge domestic showdown with Kell Brook after he’s dealt with Predrag Radosevic. Undefeated Smith makes a hero’s return to Liverpool to make the third defence of his world title on an action-packed night of boxing at the Echo Arena on June 4th, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

Scouse warrior Smith spectacularly announced himself on the world stage last October when he stopped American John Thompson in the seventh round to become Liverpool’s first world champion in 22 years.

Following his sensational win over Thompson, Smith emphatically defended his world title against Jimmy Kelly in the first Liverpool versus Manchester world title showdown in over 80 years.

Now the Merseyside maverick is looking to take on Sheffield’s IBF Super-Welterweight Champion Brook in a mouth-watering domestic blockbuster.

“I’m going to be brutally honest; Kell Brook is the fight I want. I would bite your hand off for that fight. Kell is a nice lad and I get on with him but it’s a fight that people would love to see,” said Smith.

He added: “Frank made an offer and started the ball rolling. If they were keen on that fight they could have easily had it. Don’t talk about dominating 147lbs and 154lbs and then fight an opponent at 140lbs. If you’re going do it do it and fight one of the champions at 147lbs or 154lbs.”

Smith faces an experienced opponent in WBO European Champion Radosevic, whose sole loss came at the hands of WBA Super-Middlweight Champion Felix Sturm back in 2013. The man from Montenegro holds a top record of 30 wins from 31 fights and Smith is expecting a war.

He said: “I’m definitely looking for a massive fight later this year as I’m confident I’ve got the tools to beat Radosevic. Saying that, I’m taking nothing for granted and I know what I’m up against. If people look into his record properly they’ll realise he’s a strong European champion and it’s a good defence.”

“I’ll stay focused, I’m from too good a gym and too good a gym to overlook anyone. I’m looking to impress, I don’t want to come back to Liverpool and have a stinker and scrape through on my big return. I want to come through with a proper performance and show people how much I’ve improved,” added Smith.

A mouth-watering night of action sees Ellesmere Port star Paul Butler defend his WBO International Super-Flyweight belt against Petchbarngborn Kokietgym, should he win Butler will be guaranteed mandatory position with the WBO. South African super-puncher Zolani Tete makes his eagerly anticipated return to Liverpool to defend his IBF International Bantamweight title. Ryan Farrag makes the first defence of his EBU European Bantamweight title against Frenchman Karim Guerfi and Jazza Dickens takes on Spain’s Abigail Medina for the Vacant EBU European Super-Bantamweight Championship. A top undercard sees Tom Stalker, Liam Williams, Steven Lewis, Josh Leather and Declan Geraghty all in action.

Erislandy Lara, Vanes Martirosyan, Jermall Charlo, Austin Trout, Jermell Charlo & John Jackson Media Conference Call Transcript

Erislandy Lara
Leonard Ellerbe
I would like to thank everyone for joining us on the call today. We have an exciting tripleheader of Super Welterweight World Title fights. It will be headlined by Cuban sensation and WBA Super Welterweight World Champion, Erislandy Lara against exciting challenger and 2004 U.S. Olympian, Vanes Martirosyan in a rematch of their 2012 technical draw.

In our co-main event, and up-and-coming star, the IBF Junior Middleweight World Champion, Jermall Charlo taking on the toughest challenge of his career in former World Champion, Austin Trout.

We’ll open up our telecast with Jermall’s twin brother, the undefeated Jermell Charlo, who will take on the hard-hitting and talented of John Jackson for the vacant WBC Super Welterweight World Title.

Tickets are on sale now and they start at $39.00. They can also be purchased at Ticketmaster online and all Ticketmaster locations, as well as on the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas Web site.

Our events will be televised by Showtime Championship Boxing live at 9 pm Eastern Time and 6 pm Pacific Time. And promoted by Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions.

And before we get into the call, I’d like to introduce our co-promoter Brittany Goossen Brown. She’s the VP of Operations at TGB Promotions.

Brittany Goossen Brown
Yes, thank you Leonard. TGB Promotions is very excited to be partnering with Mayweather Promotions and Showtime on this outstanding triple-header next Saturday, May 21st, live from the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, the Boxing Capital of the World.

All three fights promise to be exciting action from the moment that bell rings. Get your tickets now, and we will look forward to seeing everyone in Vegas next week.

L. Ellerbe
Thank you, Brittany. Before we get to the fighters, I’d like to introduce Stephen Espinoza, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Showtime Sports.

Stephen Espinoza
Thank you very much, Leonard. We’re also very excited for this highly anticipated card, and at a time in the sport where one lesson we sometimes hear; why aren’t the best fighting the best? That’s exactly what the fighters on this card are doing. It is the best fighting the best. We have five of the top six fighters in the division. They’re fighting each other. They could have taken easier fights. But they didn’t. And that’s the kind of spirit we have on this fight.

So we’ve got some intriguing story lines. A rematch of a very highly-contested fight. Twin brothers fighting for world titles. First time that’s ever happened on the same card. But most of all, we’ve got the top fighters in this division fighting in tough fights, and that’s exactly what our schedule is characterized this year.

We are proud to be involved, and we can’t wait until May 21.

L. Ellerbe
Thank you, Stephen. As Stephen’s mentioned, we have all six fighters on the call today to talk about their coming bouts and to answer questions from all of you guys.

So I’d like to introduce the first bout. We have John Jackson. He’ll be fighting Jermell Charlo. John Jackson comes to us with a 20 and 2 record and 15 KOs. He’s fighting out of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. He’s the son of a former World Champion. He represented the Virgin Islands at the 2008 Olympics and won his first 13 pro fights after turning pro in 2009.

So let’s introduce John Jackson. John, you want to say a few words?

John Jackson
Yes, hey, man, I just want to say thanks for having me. It’s a privilege and an honor, and I’m ready for Showtime.

L. Ellerbe
All right. Okay. Next up, the Charlo twin brother. We have Jermell Charlo. He comes to us with a 27 and 0 record with 12 KOs. Fighting out of Houston, Texas, and training in Dallas with Derrick James, who’s also the current trainer of Errol Spence. Him and his brother Jermall are intending to become the first twin brothers to hold world titles in the same Division.

He’s 25 years old and he owns victories over Vanes Martirosyan and Gabriel Rosado, and he will look to leave the ring as the World Champion on Saturday, May 21st. Jermell, would you like to say a few words?

Jermell Charlo
Thank you guys for having me on this call right now. I got to get back into training, obviously. All we do is work. So you know, I come just as prepared as I’m supposed to be.

This is my opportunity, this is my chance, this is my moment. My brother’s had his before. He’s going to defend his title, and I’m excited to be in the same venue fighting on the same card with my twin brother and a stable mate, Erislandy Lara, which is another true blessing to my career.

John Jackson is a hell of a fighter. He comes to fight. He going to come bringing the punching power and all the extra things that he’s prepared himself for. And I’m going to step up to the plate and do what I’m supposed to do. I get one opportunity. I get one boxing career, and this is my moment, and this is the chance that I’ve taken. I have to go get it.

So all due respect to John Jackson and his team, but I’m not laying down for nothing. I’m going to get what I deserve and what’s mine. And I will be bringing a WBC back to Houston, Texas, and representing like I’m supposed to.

Q
Jermell, I know you’ve had title fights fall through before, and I know that you have more fights than your brother. How psyched are you that this title fight has eventually come to fruition?

Jermell Charlo
I’m excited. God has timing on everything, and I know for a fact that this is that time and this fight is going to be for it to be reckoned, it’s going to be a fight that’s like steals the show. Three great fights on the card, so regardless of what happened in the past, I don’t look at it that way. I look at it as this fight is the fight, and this is the one that I need to conquer and take care of.

Q
Do you expect to stop John Jackson in this fight, or go the distance?

Jermell Charlo
I prepare myself for 12 rounds. I prepare myself for more than 12 rounds. I prepare myself to go 12 rounds. Whatever happens in this fight happens, and I’m prepared for it.

Q
Both you and your brother are fighting on this card. Is that twice the pressure?

Jermell Charlo
No, we did it before. We’ve done this before. We fought on the same cards in amateurs. We fought on the same cards on the pros. Even we fought on the same cards on Showtime. We’re going to do it again.

Q
How much sibling rivalry is there with you and your brother?

Jermell Charlo
It’s pretty intense. You know, we compete with each other about who’s in the best shape; and it’s sibling rivals but never actual rivals. So, my competition is greater than just beating John Jackson. It’s just performing well in front of my twin brother, who will be in the back locker room cheering me on.

Q
Being world champions at the same time, is it something that you and your brother contemplated for a long time? And what would it mean to you to actually accomplish that?

Jermell Charlo
We never actually thought about it as it is now. We knew we always wanted to be world champions like John Jackson and his brother thought.. You know, him and his brother would like to be World Champions, but we never thought about it being on the same card, the same night, making history.

So it makes it even more intense. It makes it much bigger stakes for me. John Jackson is going to come, he’s going to do what he has to do, but my job is to make history, so with that being said, I’m going in the ring with the mindset of winning, making history. Winning the WBC, and taking home a nice purse.

Q
Have you thought about that it can’t possibly happen if you don’t take care of your business, because he’s going after you?

Jermell Charlo
Yes. So I mean, knowing that I got to go first has never been a problem. I was the one that, when we were younger, I would pop off first. If somebody got into it with me and my brother, I’m jumping off first. I don’t want nobody getting on my brother. So that’s how I take it. I look like, I’m going to be the one to go crazy. I’ll be the one that takes the chances in the family. So if I got to be the one that go first, oh well, let it be.

Q
Have you given thought to what happened to John Jackson against Andy Lee?

Jermell Charlo
Well, you know, I prepare for everything, and I’m preparing to show you guys a lot more power that I am underrated, and I have probably, just as well enough power as much than – my twin brother is extremely strong.

I’ve been doing some great things throughout this camp and developing even before I knew I was taking this fight, I already knew who was Number 1 and who was Number 2 and what fight had to be in place.

I was already in camp, before camp, in pre-camp, you dig? So I know for a fact that Andy Lee did what he had to do, but the style that he fight – and John Jackson brings a different style, and it’s not necessarily a style that I’ve never seen before, but it would be a great fight. So I can’t predict what’s coming up, but I am going to play to my strengths as much as possible.

Q
Can you talk about the fact that you’ve had to sit by and watch your World Title fights in the past go by the wayside for different reasons that were out of your control and watch your brother win the title as you waited your time.

But also, what does it mean to the rest of your family to have this as a possibility? Not just you and your brother; your parents and grandparents and uncles and stuff.

Jermell Charlo
My whole family – yes, everyone is excited. Everyone will be in Vegas. It’s something that we’ve all seen, the reason why we box for, so I can’t really, you know, explain how excited they are, but I know how I felt that I – I’ve seen World Titles slip by the wayside, but that’s not, that’s nothing I can control.

That’s something that I had no control over even (they ranked) Number 2 on the IBF. My brother grabbed that title, and I was extremely happy for him to have that title. More happy for him, just as well as happy for myself.

So when we do, when he do as he do, it’s as if I’m doing it myself, and nothing, there’s nothing more than I can actually explain when it comes down to I’m excited. I’m excited to be in this fight right now.

Q
What is it like to have the chin of your entire family questioned? And how did that make you feel going in to this fight?

J. Jackson
It doesn’t make me feel any way, you know? That’s the job, that’s you guys’ job to come up with stories and question everything. So you know, I just go in there and do my job, and that’s to fight and box, you know.

So I know Jermell is going to come in there ready, and I’m going to be ready, so I’m expecting a great fight, man. And I expect to put on a good show, you know, for all the fans.

Q
And what is it like to hear him say, you know, Jermell say, you know, he has as much power as his brother. And obviously, you know, he intends to show that against you.

J. Jackson
Yes. I don’t feel that he is – everyone just thinks he has speed, alone, but I know he has a little pop, too, as well. You know, we been just studying and watching tapes. So we know he has a little pop as well. I don’t know why reporters, you know, don’t give him no credit for what he has, but he has a little pop as well, but we’ll be ready for everything, so.

Q
Jermell, you threw out the first pitch at an Astros game. What game was that? What was it like to be embraced by the crowd, and did you get, you know, some juice from your fans going into this?

Jermell Charlo
Marketing is everything, and we do what we have to do. I don’t remember; I don’t even remember who they was playing against. I’m really not much of a baseball fan. I did watch the game; it was exciting.

I’m sponsored by the Astros of Houston, which is a great (team), and it was fun. It was exciting to sit and, you know, throw a pitch and make sure I threw a strike. That was one I did not practice. That was something. So you know, it was a game that the Astros actually won after losing so many games, so I was excited to be there and to be a part of that.

Q
Being that that was your first time on the mound, were you nervous? Did you look at – how did ball leave your hand? Did it go right over the plate? You sure it was a strike?

Jermell Charlo
It was a strike. Posted it on social media, and I was nervous; not necessarily nervous because of the, you know, the atmosphere or the people. I was nervous because I wanted to make sure that I didn’t throw it like, if you think that, and I didn’t – it was more the excitement.

Q
If you can be that accurate and throw a – maybe come up with a home run against Jackson?

Jermell Charlo
Like I stated before, I’m going to do what I have to do. I can’t predict what’s going to happen, but I’m very extra-excited and that’s going to be bizarre.

Q
Jermell, your comment on your brother’s improvement over the years and as a fighter and, you know, how much has he improved, you know, maybe in the last year or 18 months?

Jermell Charlo
My brother has improved, I mean, from 18 months, man, I would say he’s almost made like a completely 360 spin on how much he’s improved. And he’s spiraling up.

I know for a fact that there’s some stuff, like, for my brother’s in trouble, but once you get to the top, like he knows you’re going to have to fight some of the best, and so that is just elevating his game.

My brother changed a lot of things and kept – I don’t want to speak for him, because I know he’ll be speaking real soon. So, and I’m very, I’m very impressed at how he’s – a lot of people talk about his guy moving up in weight.

Even this and that, I can’t believe how he’s changed, and how much nutrition has changed, and how much everything has made a big amount of, you know. I’m just grateful to see how great my brother has played a part in his improvement and training.

L. Ellerbe
Now shifting over to the co-main event, which is going to be a very exciting matchup IBF World Champion Jermall Charlo and former World Champion, Austin Trout.

The next fighter I’m about to introduce- very, very tough guy. He has a wealth of experience. He’s been in with Lara, Canelo, Cotto, Delvin Rodriguez, Joey Hernandez – just to name a few. He comes to us from Las Cruces, New Mexico. He now trains in DC with a very good friend of mine and the outstanding underrated trainer named Barry Hunter.

A former World Champion at 154 pounds, he defeated Miguel Cotto in New York in December, 2012. And he’s won four fights in a row heading into this World Title fight.. He comes to us with a 30 and 2 record with 17 KOs. Former World Champion, Austin Trout. Austin?

Austin Trout
Okay. Thanks for having me. Happy to be here. The introduction was great. I’m ready to be asked questions. Unless you want me to just talk about myself. I could do that all day.

Q
Just your thoughts on facing Charlo on May 21st. You know, what kind of a fighter is he, and what do you kind of been preparing for?

A. Trout
Well, first, it’s, he’s a good fighter. You know, possibly a great fighter. I’m very excited about this opportunity to fight and win the title.

Very few people get a once in a lifetime chance you can’t be – I’ve had the pleasure of having two chances. I’m definitely not going to let this pass me by. I’m very excited to pull this fight. It’s a good fight for everybody. A good fight for me, a good fight for Jermall and a good fight for the fans. You know, everybody is going to win at the end of the day, but I have to have my hand raised when the night’s over.

L. Ellerbe
Okay, we have Jermall Charlo comes forward with a 23 and 0 record of 18 KOs. He’s from Houston, Texas. He trains with Ronnie Shields, who’s also another outstanding trainer and very underrated.

He won his World Title with a dominant turnaround stopping Cornelius Bundrage, known as K-9. And he defended with another stoppage this time over Wilky Campfort. Jermall, would you like to say a few words? Jermall? Sorry – Jermall, start again, please.

Jermall Charlo
Thanks everybody, I’m happy to be here.

Q
Were you surprised that after the loss you took against Lara that it took 2-1/2 years to get back in a position to fight for another World Title?

Austin Trout
To be honest, man, I wasn’t surprised that it’s taken this long because really I thought I’d have to start from the bottom going back. Other people’s going back to the lower fights.

So I was blessed to be able to have my fights televised. Not necessarily the stomping grounds hero, but you were probably going to ask what I was prepared for. It’s surprising that it took 2-1/2 years. I guess I’m surprised that it didn’t take longer.

In boxing I feel like they’re quick to throw you away. I felt like they didn’t want me when I was in first place. You know all the fights that I got into, I wasn’t necessarily supposed to win. I wasn’t supposed to win the Cotto fight.

You know, everything was stacked against me so I could never fight, and when Lara beat me how he did, I was like, that’s it. They’re really going to push me to the bottom; I have to start from zero to climb my way back to where I got to.

Q
Jermall, this is the first title fight you’re having against a really highly-regarded opponent, compared to those other two guys. Your thoughts on that opinion?

Jermall Charlo
Yes. I’m going into the fight as if I don’t have the title, you know? I’m trained, and I’m prepared for the worst and the best of Austin Trout. And you know, as you can see I fought back to back, and I’ll continue to step up the competition. And that’s just due to my management and everyone that’s behind me. They seem to be making the right moves.

Q
Is it your opinion that, at least on paper, that Austin Trout is your most significant, most difficult, most established opponent?

Jermall Charlo
No. Austin Trout is a familiar name, familiar face around me and around the boxing world. I’m just as prepared as I was for Campfort as I was K-9 and the fights before. We trained very hard. He knows that we are going in to the fight expecting to get ready for a battle.

Q
Can you just give me your thoughts about being in a position where if your brother wins the opening fight that takes place before yours, and you win, that you will, in fact, , create an interesting kind of history in boxing that’s never happened before. What do you think about that?

Jermall Charlo
I mean, really, to me personally, honestly, we’re not with all of the pressure and all of the, you know, the words that come with just being great and doing everything we have to do, we plan on making history regardless.

And this just happened to be the time where we both hold the World Championships in the division. And I’m not trying to put pressure on my brother, I just know, I need him to go, do his job in that we both come out victorious and make history.

Q
How will you celebrate it if you both accomplish this?

Jermall Charlo
Like we always celebrate the majority of our fights. You know, have fun with each other, take a little vacation, and just talk about in that our (minds set). And then, you know, celebrate our birthdays. It’s going to be, you know, two days or four or five, which we sacrifice, and then and there’s just a lot of things we’re going to celebrate with.

Q
How will you handle it mentally if your brother gets beat that night and then you can’t make the history, but then you still have to go and do your job and, you know, do what you have to do to retain your title? How will that impact you? Have you given any thought to how you’ll deal with that on a mental basis, an emotional basis?

Jermall Charlo
Well, like I say, you know, we really not so big on putting the pressure on each other, and the work of the fight is going to be, you know, both of us getting our hand raised.

You know, knock on wood, and you know, worst case come, you know, we’re both prepared for the worst. But you know, I’m not necessarily worried about making history. I’m just worried about taking care of my fast end against Austin Trout.

Q
Would you and your brother ever entertain that idea if you could unify titles?

Jermall Charlo
I mean no. We would it have anything to prove fighting each other. And I’m pretty sure the fans and the people around the world wouldn’t want to see twin brothers that train with each other and have the same tactics fight each other. So I’m not really entertaining the fact that a lot of people have been asking will meet in my twin brother fight each other? No.

Q
Jermall, when was the last time you for a southpaw?

Jermall Charlo
The last time I fought a southpaw was – I had a few fighters fight southpaw that I didn’t fight. I actually trained with a few southpaws. But I think I actually had fought a natural lefty so this would be the first experience that I’ll be able to fight a lefty.

Q
Speaking of lefties how much did Erislandy Lara advise you or help you with this fight since he’s beaten Austin Trout before?

Jermall Charlo
He’s been a big help. You know, fighting alongside him. Also, he’s fought Trout. So he’s been in there. He probably felt a few of the aspect of fighting a left-handed fighter. It’s just a different dynamic. You know, we prepare for everything. Like a champion has to be the tape what someone has and you make the most out of it and that’s what I plan on doing.

Q
I asked her brother this before and I’m asking you as well. How much of a sibling rivalry is that between you and your brother?

Jermall Charlo
I’m inspired by my twin brother but we compete. I guess that’s what keeps pushing us above and beyond. I can’t wait for him to fight and for him to do what he has to do so I could just say that was a lucky punch or that was a win. And not give him all the credit that he deserves and just keep pushing him. Because it’s all a brothers love and I love what my brother does and I’m pretty sure he loves what I do.

Q
From a marketing standpoint how much better is it to be twin champions as opposed to be like individual champions?

Jermall Charlo
I mean it’s great for marketing. Of course I’m a hero for a lot of fans that support boxing and of course they want to see them the level change and it’s only one way up. And for us to both become world champions I guess we’ll get a lot more attention as far as being great.

Q
What do you feel though has been the biggest change or improvement to your game since the Lara fight or the Dawson fight?

A. Trout
I’m just trying to become a complete fighter, and all-around fighter. That means being comfortable, going forward, backwards, to the side, attention to the head and to the body. And that’s been my goal from John is to be comfortable doing anything. That’s really what you believe is the work I put in. Look at our weaknesses which were defined by Lara and then just worked on it. So of course we want to be able to do the deed this year but if it needs be we can just push it up and go somewhere else and go in another direction.

Q
Everybody refers to Barry Hunter as your trainer these days. But how would you define Louie Burke in your career and the new training at this point?

A. Trout
He still here. He’s taken the title of head coach is really just a title cause really they are co-coaches. Louis been here with me. When I’m home, when we start Louie is the one who’s really starting that up for me. We cannot to DC to get to work and get another perspective. Louis is still a major, major factor in my corner and in my camp.

Q
In regard to Vegas, the boxing capital of the world in the country if not the world. Is it important at all to you to finally get there?

A. Trout
You know, I’ve been able to fight around the world and I’ve gotten to be able to travel and go in just see things. Being able to fight in Vegas is definitely important but I don’t put too much on it. It’s just another city. It’s just another venue. The fight itself is what matters.

Q
Austin, could you kind of discuss your evolution as a fighter I guess and kind of where you are today when you are ready for this second title shot.

A. Trout
I feel like – this is a great time for me because right now I am running on all cylinders. You know, I mentally, physically, and spiritually at peace and prepared. Nothing like all three of those points are very important to be a complete fighter in the ring because you have your spirit. And right now I’m very spiritual. God is going to be there to bless me. And if your mind ain’t right you already know that you can’t fight with your mind off base. And the physical part that speaks for itself. So honestly I have to be on top of my game to be a fighter like 929. And if those three things weren’t on point it’s going to be a rough night. But since they are I feel like I’m very unbeatable at this time right now.

Q
Do you feel like you’re at your best right now?

A. Trout
Close to it. I still feel like the best is yet to come but I feel like I’m getting there.

Q
And what you feel like you need to do to get your belt back?

A. Trout
Everything. You know we’re going to have to fight. I really want to — we’re going to have to box right, we’re going to have to fight hard, and were going to have to dig down and dig deep. But at the end of the day it will be all worth it. We’re going to have to take into the trenches and five as if our life depends on it which I feel like it is.

Q
And lastly the feel like the Lara fight was a big disappointment. Do you feel like you learned a few things that put you on different path?

A. Trout
I did. And again, after winning the total fight in having a close – and see the fight against Canelo I was a necessary living the way I feel like God wanted me to be. And I’m not here to preach. It’s nothing like that. But at the same time I feel like I’m held at a higher standard than others where I can’t get away with nothing. Now I got my manager in order. My family is right. My mind’s right. You know not to mention Lara has exposed things that I needed to work on that I’ve been working on. And we know that Carlos sparred with Lara who I feel is one of the best undisputed talent in the game other than myself.

We know he’s going to bring some things to the table that’s going to try to attack you. We’re going to try to take advantage of those mistake that Lara has exposed. So we have to definitely tighten up. We have to tighten up.

L. Ellerbe
Thank you. Now we’ll bring the main event. It’s a rematch of the 2012 technical draw and you know both men are going to want to settle the score. So first up I’d like to introduce, he comes to us with 36 and 2 record with 21 KO’s. He’s fighting out of Glendale, California. He represented the United States in the 2004 Olympics. He’s a very very tough fighter. He’s been in with just about everybody. He fought the likes of Ishe Smith, who’s part of the Mayweather promotions stabl, Willie Nelson and Demetrius Andrade. He fought Lara. He’s been a pro for 11 years. He turned pro in April, 2005 and he’s a very very good fighter. And we also look forward to a very exciting fight. Vanes Martirosyan, would you like to say a few words.

Vanes Martirosyan
Thank you Leonard. You getting better with my last name every time. It’s an honor to be on the Mayweather Promotions card once again and I can’t wait for the fight. I’m really excited as I have had the best training camp that I’ve ever had. I’ve been away from my family for a month and a half now. I just can’t wait for the fight to come.

L. Ellerbe
Vanes is fighting Erislandy Lara. Lara comes to us with a 22 and three record with 13 KO’s representing Cuba but training with Ronnie Shield in Houston. He’s one of the, in my opinion, one of the slickest boxers Very very slick, talented fighter. If you look forward this is going to be an excellent match up. Lara, would you like to say a few words.

Erislandy Lara
I want to thank everybody for putting this together in Mayweather Promotions and Showtime. I’m just ready for the fight. The fight is a week away and we’re ready to go.

Q
Vanes, in the first fight it seems that later on in the fight you were getting some success by putting on more pressure question mark are you going to fight the second fight like it’s the 10th round of the first fight?

V. Martirosyan
We know, we watched the first fight. That was four years ago. He’s got a lot better. I changed a lot also. We have noticed the fight there to be that we would do from the first fight. But there’s a lot of new things that we need to do. My main concern about this fight is that I just hope it’s a clean fight cause the first fight was really a dirty fight. There was a lot of low blows, a lot of head-butts and things like that. Let’s just hope the referee does his job better but we’re ready for anything and the first fight was a learning lesson. And it’s going to be the best fight on this night.

Q
My question is for Erislandy. With the improving relations between the United States and Cuba recently. How important is it for your career to headline a professional fight in your home country? And is that something you and your team have talked about doing?

E. Lara
Absolutely. This is something I want to do. I’m fully aware of everything going on in the United States and Cuba and if it’s possible I would love to headline a fight in Cuba one day.

Q
You also had mentioned recently that you would even like to fight to unify 154 titles. Would you also be willing to do that if a stablemate Jermall Charlo?

E. Lara
I don’t choose my opponents. They tell me who I’m fighting and I prepare and I fight to the best of my abilities and that’s what I have done in every fight. This is the fact and we both trained so this is not realistic at this point. But would I fight him? Yeah. I’ll fight him and win.

Q
You’ve been on the short end of some decisions, questionable decisions such as your fight with Andrade. Has that affected your game plan heading into this rematch and how aggressive you may need to be to pull out a decision?

V. Martirosyan
I have to be ten times more aggressive. And I guess I need to win the fight. You know, way better, trying to be more aggressive to show the judges we’ve moved on than the judges have.

Q
Did you start to feel as though it wasn’t going to happen? And how incomplete do you feel your career would have been if you didn’t get the chance to fight him again?

V. Martirosyan
I know I’ve been with Al Haymon and he’s with Al Haymon. You know every time I fought when I was with Al Haymon they asked me if I wanted to fight. One of the guy’s name on the list was Lara. So it was just a matter of time. At the time we fall we were both with different promoters. And right now we’re with the same management. So to be with the same management I knew that it was going to happen sooner or later. So I’m just happy that it finally happened.

Q
Vanes also if you could, what did you think of the scoring and the way the fight was scored in the first fight you know when it was fought.

V. Martirosyan
We watch the fight a few times. I think that he knows I was coming on strong. The round that they quoted as a draw I don’t know why they scored that fight on that round because it was only 20 seconds into the round and that’s what made it a draw. I just feel like I was winning on points in that fight. And the cut was bad and when they asked the judges to score the round they scored in his favor and they called it a draw. I just feel like I was up in that fight.

Q
If you could ask Erislandy the same question about what he thought about the scoring and also what his thoughts are in the fight finally coming together? And whether he thought it would ever happen?

E. Lara
To me I was winning the fight easily. I was out boxing him. If you go look at CompuBox I out landed him in every single round of the fight. I was doing my job. Obviously we fought on his turf like I always do. I fight fighters on their turf like I do. Now it’s on my turf and actually I felt like I was winning the fight 100% and I was coming on strong. I was winning the last few rounds before the cut and I was on my way to stop it and then before, you know, he decided not to fight. So I’m looking forward to this fight. I’m very excited to fight and it’s time to put a period on the fight and end it. And show everybody why I’m the best 154 pound in the world.

Q
Vanes, he just said he felt he was on his way to stopping you in that fight. What are your thoughts on that?

V. Martirosyan
He was running the whole fight. I stopped them but he was running, man. He was running the first few rounds and then he started running the whole fight. I don’t know what he’s talking about. He was stopping me. You know what I mean. I know he felt me in the first fight he’s going to feel me ten times more in this fight. He wasn’t stopping shit. If he was stopping I feel like the head butt was on purpose. The low blows were on purpose. Fight a clean fight and don’t play with my balls the whole fight and we’ll see who’s going to stop who in this one.

Hughie Fury rated #6 by WBO; Eager to conquer challenges in and out of the ring

Manchester, Lancashire, UK (May 16, 2016) – Fast rising heavyweight Hughie Fury has been ranked #6 in the world by the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

Fury captured the WBO’s Intercontinental belt April 30 via 7th round technical decision over awkward Fred Kassi. At 21 years old, Fury has a perfect 20-0 professional ledger and stopped ten of his opponents. During the last fifteen months, Fury’s passed multiple tough tests having outpointed noteworthy fighters in Andriy Rudenko, George Arias, Dominick Guinn and Kassi.

On July 9, Fury looks to shine on his biggest stage yet when he faces an opponent to be named in a ten or twelve round fight. The fight will appear on the undercard of the world heavyweight championship showdown between champion Tyson Fury and Wladimir Klitschko at the Manchester Arena.

Hungry but humble, Fury is very pleased with his world ranking and plans to win the WBO world championship.

“I’m overwhelmed that the WBO has me listed in the top six in the world,” said Fury. “I’m a loyal person and will repay the WBO by winning their world title just like my cousin Tyson.”
Even with his notable success and high praise throughout the boxing world, Fury’s been battling a grueling opponent out of the ring that has prevented him from being 100 percent.

According to Dr. Ian R. White, Fury’s suffering from acne conglobata which could result in malaise, fluctuating fevers and joint pain. The condition has to be treated aggressively with medications in order to keep his career progressing.

Thankfully, he’s responding well and things are looking up.
“I’ve been dealing with fatigue and a skin problem that caused my body to breakdown. I know people in the boxing world have taken note of this and I appreciate their concern. The good news is I have been given treatment to clear my skin once and for all. I’m 21 years old and am going to show the world what I’m about in the next year and hopefully there will be another world champion in the Fury family.”

Fury’s opponent will be announced shortly.

Former Boxcino champions and World Title Challengers Willie Monroe Jr. and John Thompson Clash in Middleweight Bout On Saturday, June 11 at The Turning Stone Casino Resort, Live on SHOWTIME EXTREME®

1harney_monroe_golovkinWEIN0009
PHILADELPHIA (May 16, 2016) — It will be a battle of the Boxcino champions when former world title challengers, Willie Monroe Jr. and John Thompson, square off in a 10-round middleweight bout in the main event of SHOWTIME BOXING on SHO EXTREME on Saturday, June 11, live 7 p.m. ET/PT from The Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, N.Y.

In the SHO EXTREME co-feature, Boxcino 2015 heavyweight champion Andrey Fedosov (28-3, 23 KOs) will face Mario Heredia (11-1, 9 KOs, 1-2 in WSB) in a 10-round heavyweight bout.

The SHO EXTREME bouts will precede a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader that will feature Ruslan Provodnikov taking on John Molina Jr. in what should be an action-packed junior welterweight bout for as long as it lasts.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Banner Promotions, Inc., are priced at $85, $60, $45 and $35 and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Turning Stone Box Office, by calling 877.833.SHOW, or online at Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).

Monroe Jr., of nearby Rochester, N.Y., and Thompson, of Newark, N.J., have near identical records. Monroe is 19-2 with six knockouts, Thompson’s 17-2 with six knockouts.

The 29 year-old Monroe won the 2014 Boxcino Middleweight Tournament with victories over Donatas Bondorovas (18-4-1), Vitaly Kopylenko (23-0) and Brandon Adams (14-0). He followed Boxcino up with an impressive 10-round unanimous decision over perennial contender Brian Vera last January.

Monroe’s win streak set up an opportunity on May 16, 2015, to fight middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin. Monroe put up a solid effort and gave Golovkin his toughest test to date, but came up short in his title opportunity.

“I am glad to be back, and I look forward to fighting in front of my loyal fans who will come from Rochester to see me fight,” Monroe said.

The 27 year-old Thompson won the 2015 Boxcino Junior Middleweight tournament with wins over Ricardo Pinell (10-1-1), Stanyslav Skorokhod (9-0) and Brandon Adams (17-1).

Following the 2015 Boxcino tournament, Thompson traveled to Manchester, England to fight undefeated Liam Smith for the WBO Junior Middleweight title on Oct. 10, 2015. Thompson was impressive and was ahead on the scorecards before being stopped in the seventh round.

“I have been training hard, and I look forward to fighting another Boxcino champion like Willie Monroe,” Thompson said. “It should make for a great fight.”

Since winning the Boxcino tournament, when he stopped Donovan Dennis in the eighth round on May 22, 2015, Fedosov has been out of the ring with lingering injuries. Now he is back training at the famed Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles readying for his ring return.

“I am glad that I will finally be getting back in the ring,” Fedosov said. “I got some time to rest and now I feel better and stronger than ever. I just want to get in that ring on June 11. I am looking forward to putting on a great show as I look for a major fight.”

Heredia, of Merida, Mexico, will be looking for a signature victory to catapult his career and become a player in the suddenly open heavyweight division.

“This is a big opportunity for me,” he said. “I was scheduled to be in the Boxcino tournament, but I had an injury, and I feel I would have won it. Now to be able to face and beat the champion will prove what I thought all along.”

Provodnikov-Molina Jr. will headline a live SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOOXING tripleheader live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m.

Turning Stone Resort Casino is no stranger to hosting high caliber nationally televised boxing events. GORMAN ADDED TO FURY V KLITSCHKO UNDERCARD

NANTWICH heavyweight Nathan Gorman has been given the opportunity to appear on the undercard of Tyson Fury’s mammoth heavyweight title rematch with Wladimir Klitschko.

Fights are coming thick and fast for the Ricky Hatton-trained 19-year-old as he has racked up four victories with three knockouts since turning professional in December.

This past weekend Gorman floored Poland’s Kamil Sokolowski three times en route to a fifth round stoppage in Walsall and just two weeks earlier he wiped out Hrvoje Kisicek in just one session at London’s Copper Box Arena.

The opportunity to feature on the Fury v Klitchsko 2 card is huge for a boxer at this early stage in his career and Ricky Hatton believes fight fans will be pleased with what they see in Manchester on July 9.

“For a young prospect, things don’t get any bigger than this,” Hatton said. “The chance for a teenage heavyweight to box on the same bill as a world heavyweight title fight is massive.

“Nathan only started boxing around three years ago and he had to pinch himself when we told him where his next fight would be.

“I expect Nathan to shine on the night regardless of who he’s in with. In his last couple of fights he’s shown the power and shot picking we’ve been working on and I believe fans at the Manchester Arena will be very impressed with what they see from him.”

Like Tyson Fury, Gorman comes from proud travelling stock. His uncle, Bartley Gorman, was a legend of bareknuckle boxing and was often referred to as ‘The King of the Gypsies’ thanks to an unbeaten run that lasted more than 20 years.

In fact, respect between the Gormans and the Furys played a part in getting young Nathan this chance.

“We have to thank Tyson and Peter Fury for getting Nathan on this card,” Hatton explained.

“The Fury family are close to Nathan’s and they’ve seen him in action since he first put on a pair of gloves.

“Tyson said he wanted Nathan on his undercard and Peter put the wheels in motion to make it happen. After training Tyson and Hughie, Peter knows a good heavyweight when he sees one and he was instrumental in pushing for Nathan to be included on the bill because he thinks he’ll had some excitement to the bill.

“We really can’t stress how grateful we are to Tyson and Peter for their belief in us and their support.”

TYSON FURY STATEMENT

Tyson Fury
Tyson Fury, the Heavyweight Champion of the World, was interviewed last week by a video media outlet known as SportsView London. During the interview, Mr Fury made comments that have been viewed by some as offensive.

Mr Fury would like to apologise to anyone who may have taken offence to these comments.

As a man of Traveller heritage, Mr Fury has suffered bigotry and racial abuse throughout his life and as such would never wish anyone to suffer the same. He has many friends of a wide range of backgrounds and races and wishes no ill to anyone of any race, religion or sexual orientation.

Mr Fury is a devout Christian and a family man, however he accepts that in the past he has said things publically which are misrepresentative of his beliefs and usual good character. He appreciates he has a duty as the Heavyweight Champion of the World. He knows it comes with certain responsibilities and anything he says publicly will be heavily scrutinised.

Mr Fury now wishes to move past this and instead concentrate on what he does best, which is boxing, starting with his defence of the Heavyweight Championship of The World in the rematch against Wladimir Klitschko on July 9th at the Manchester Arena.

Mr Fury said: “I apologise to anyone who may have taken offence at any of my comments. I said some things, which may have hurt some people, which as a Christian man is not something I would ever want to do.

Though it is not an excuse, sometimes the heightened media scrutiny has caused me to act out in public. I mean no harm or disrespect to anyone and I know more is expected of me as an ambassador of British boxing and I promise in future to hold myself up to the highest possible standard.

Anyone who knows me personally knows that I am in no way a racist or bigot and I hope the public accept this apology.”

Edwin Viruet Ring 8 Guest Speaker Tuesday night

NEW YORK (May 16, 2016) – New York State Boxing Hall-of-Famer Edwin Viruet
will be Ring 8’s guest speaker at Tuesday night’s (May 17) monthly meeting, starting at 7 p.m. ET, at O’Neill’s Restaurant, located at 64-21 53rd Drive in Maspeth, New York.

“Edwin was inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2016,” Ring 8 president Bob Duffy said. “He was unable to attend the induction ceremony, so we will present him with his Hall of Fame belt at our meeting. Edwin embodies what the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) is all about in terms of his overall achievements and accomplishments as a New York State fighter. We’re very happy that Edwin will have this opportunity to be honored and we’re all interested in hearing him speak about his boxing career.”

Viruet (32-6-2) was a standout amateur boxer, albeit brief, registering a perfect 18-0 record, highlighted by his winning two New York Golden Gloves Championship in 1968 as a 118-pound sub-novice and the following year in the 126-pound division, Edwin and his brother, Adolpho Viruet, were declared co-champions.

In 1969, Viruet turned pro and two years later, he fought a draw with future world champion Saoul Mamby and he won a decision over another future world champion, Alfredo Escalara. Three years later, Viruet scored a decision victory against fellow 2016 NYSBHOF inductee Vilomar Fernandez at Madison Square Garden.

Viruet went the distance twice with world lightweight champion Roberto Duran, losing a decision both times, the first in a non-title fight in 1975 and the second as a world title challenger in Philadelphia two years later.

In 1983, Viruet retired as a boxer after having fought in all of the top New York venues – MSG, The Felt Forum, Sunnyside Garden, Nassau Coliseum, Singer Bowl and Audobon Ballroom.

Viruet also enjoyed a successful career as a trainer with heavyweight Alex Steward, a Golden Gloves champion who, as a professional, fought Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and George Foreman. Viruet also trained actor Wesley Snipes.
Several Vinny Maddalone fights, courtesy of Charley Norkus, Jr., will be shown on six television screens during Tuesday night’s buffet.

GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS FEATURES TOP FIGHTERS FOR FANTASY SPRINGS RESORT CASINO ON MAY 20

LOS ANGELES (May 16, 2016) – Golden Boy Promotions is at it again with its commitment to bring the most exciting fights to its fans with this new addition of top talent undercard fights set for Eddie Gomez vs. John Karl Sosa on Friday, May 20 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif.

Broadcast live on Estrella TV and streaming live simultaneously on Ring TV, estrellaTV.com and on YouTube via Fenomeno Studios, the night will feature the main event presenting pride of the Bronx Eddie “E-Boy” Gomez (18-1, 11 KOs) as he gets one step closer to taking home a 2016 world title when he takes on Puerto Rican standout John Karl Sosa (13-1, 6 KOs) on Friday, May 20 in a scheduled 10-round welterweight fight.

Making this night even more special, boxing legend and former undisputed world heavyweight champion Riddick “Big Daddy” Bowe will be in attendance for this night of fights. “Big Daddy” will also be on hand to meet fans, sign autographs and take pictures from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. inside the Fantasy Springs Special Events Center on May 20th. The meet-and-greet is open to the public with the purchase of a ticket to the event.

Snatching a spot on the televised card will be skilled southpaw fighter Fidel “The Atrisco Kid” Maldonado Jr. (21-3, 18 KOs) of Albuquerque, N.M. looking to defeat Glendale, Calif.’s Art “Lionheart” Hovhannisyan (17-2-2, 9 KOs) in the 10-round lightweight televised co-main event. Hoping to make TV time, local undefeated prospect, Jesus Sanchez (1-0, 1 KOs) of Indio, Calif. will face fellow undefeated Livan “Machine Gun” Navarro (2-0) of Havana, Cuba in a four-round welterweight swing bout.

Rounding out the non-televised undercard, streamed live on Ring TV, D’Mitirus Ballard (12-0, 8 KOs) of Washington, D.C. will put his undefeated record on the line in a scheduled eight-round super middleweight fight against Tijuana, Mexico’s Victor “Sina” Fonseca (9-7-1, 7 KOs); and Riverside, Calif.’s Joseph “Diamante” Aguirre (12-0, 8 KOs) will participate in a six-round lightweight bout facing Rony Alvarado (9-7, 5 KOs)of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Kicking off this fight night will be Alexis “Laberinto” Salazar of Tlaquepaque, Mexico in the super welterweight division going six rounds against a soon to be named opponent.

Undefeated Washington, D.C. prospect D’Mitirus Ballard will be returning to California for the second time in his career and will look to impress in his super middleweight fight at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino. A professional since 2013, the 23 year-old fighter has executed every opponent he has faced utilizing his powerful punches and heavy hits most recently facing Fabiano “Pitbull” Pena in December 2015 and Leosvy Mayedo in March 2016. With a 62 percent knockout rate, Ballard will look to add another knockout victory to his record.

Victor Fonseca will be making his second appearance on Boxeo Estelar when he fights at Fantasy Springs for the first time on May 20. Having faced the likes of up and coming fighters Antonio Gutierrez and Domonique Dolton, Fonseca is ready to show his opponent what he’s made of when he vows to make his mark in eight rounds of middleweight madness.

Having dominated in the ring in his professional debut at Fantasy Springs this February, Jesus Sanchez can’t wait to get back in the action. In his scheduled four round welterweight fight, Sanchez is confident he will stop opponent Livan Navarro by way of knockout early on in the bout, similarly to how he took out recent opponent Gibran Gutierrez.

Miami, FL’s Livan “Machine Gun Kid” Navarro, who is new to the fight game, has had success so far as a professional with two victories over Farkhad Sharipov and Kevin Walker in unanimous decisions. By kicking off the round of fights, “Machine Gun Kid” is anxious to fire punches to attain the first knockout of his career.

Joseph “Diamante” Aguirre of Riverside, CA has defeated every opponent he has ever faced and hopes to add his upcoming opponent to his list of victories as he fights for the first time in the U.S. With a recent victory against Oscar Arjona via first round knockout in March of 2016, Aguirre has stayed busy fighting twice in 2015 and five times in 2014. This young knockout artist has a promising boxing career ahead of him and the boxing community can’t wait to see what he will bring in the ring on this card.

Rony Alvarado might just have met his toughest competition yet as he goes up against undefeated Joseph Aguirre in a 6-round lightweight faceoff. The Ciudad Juarez fighter will be coming in with a vengeance as he makes his first fighting appearance at Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino on May 20.

Super welterweight all-star Alexis Salazar has been high on a knockout streak after taking down fellow fighters Victor Marquez and Michel Rosales. This Mexican fighter will be making his first fighting debut on American soil when he faces a soon to be named opponent at Fantasy Springs this May 20 in the opening bout of this thrilling night of fights.

Tickets for the event are on sale now and are priced at $45, $35, and $25. They can be purchased at the Fantasy Springs Box Office, by calling (800) 827-2946 or online at www.fantasyspringsresort.com.

GRAY, DELOMBA SCORE IMPRESSIVE WINS IN FRONT OF CAPACITY CROWD FRIDAY AT TWIN RIVER CASIN

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 16th, 2016) — Although a draw wasn’t what fight fans were hoping for Friday in the main event of CES Boxing’s “THE BATTLE FOR THE CAPITAL” between Peter Manfredo Jr. and Vladine Biosse, the sold-out crowd at Twin River Casino got its money’s worth with exceptional finishes in the two title bouts on the undercard.

Cranston, R.I., super lightweight Nick DeLomba and Worcester, Mass., junior middleweight Khiary Gray turned in the most impressive performances of their careers in front of more than 2,500 fans at the packed Event Center.

Facing the hard-hitting Quinton Willis (10-4-1) of Fort Meyers, Fla., in the eight-round co-feature, Gray (13-0, 10 KOs) scored his 10th career win by knockout, stopping his opponent at 1 minute, 41 seconds of the second round to retain his Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Northeast Title.

The knockout win was a return to normalcy for Gray, who needed all 10 rounds to beat Nicaraguan journeyman Eduardo Flores in February, a last-minute replacement when his original opponent, Cameron Rivera, withdrew due to a wrist injury. With more than six weeks to prepare for Friday’s opponent, Gray picked apart Willis quickly, sending him to the canvas in the opening round with an overhand right and finishing him for good with a left hook to the chin in the second.

The unanimous decision win over Flores snapped Gray’s eight-fight knockout streak. He’s now won nine of his last 10 by knockout with only two of those fights lasting beyond the opening round.

As for DeLomba (9-1), Friday marked his return to the win column after suffering a brutal, first-round knockout loss to Gledwin Ortiz in September.

The slick-boxing Cranston native took eight months off between fights to recover from the loss and prepare to make the transition from welterweight to super lightweight, dropping to 143 pounds Friday to challenge Worcester’s undefeated Freddy Sanchez for the vacant New England Title. A former 147-pounder, DeLomba clocked in at 141 at Thursday’s weigh-in, the lightest of his career.

In addition to becoming a father in January, DeLomba revealed an additional source of motivation, the perception from critics that he was taking on more than he could chew against the hard-hitting Sanchez, who had never so much been knocked down in his previous seven fights.

Instead, DeLomba returned to form in the biggest fight of his career, out-boxing Sanchez (7-1) en route to a 59-55, 58-56, 60-54 unanimous decision win.

Springfield, Mass., super lightweight Zack Ramsey (7-1) also suffered the first loss of his career, a 56-58, 56-58, 57-57 major decision against seasoned New York City vet Issouf Kinda (18-3) in a six-round bout, and lightweight Julio Perez (4-1) tasted defeat for the first time in a unanimous shutout loss to Providence’s Cido Hoff (1-0-1), an intriguing outcome in the opening bout of the night considering Perez had only lost two rounds his entire career entering Friday’s event.

The future of New England boxing was also on display in front of a packed house at Twin River as Worcester’s Kendrick Ball Jr. (1-0, 1 KO) and Jamaine Ortiz (1-0, 1 KO) scored knockout wins in their professional debuts. Ball flattened Providence’s Tunde Odumosu (0-1) at 1:46 of the opening round of their scheduled four-round super middleweight bout with a left hook to the jaw and Ortiz battered Maine’s Josh Parker (0-3-1) to the point were Parker couldn’t answer the bell for the second round due to a jaw injury, an impressive first night for both rising stars.

The main event, though lacking a decisive outcome, did not lack in excitement as Biosse (15-7-3), nicknamed “Mr. Providence,” put together a solid performance on just two and a half week’s notice against the 47-fight vet Manfredo (40-7-1), who was originally supposed to face the undefeated Angel Camacho Jr., a fight scheduled as far back as March.

Judge Don Trella scored it 77-75 in favor of Biosse, Clark Sammartino had it 78-74 for Manfredo and Glenn Feldman had it even at 76-76.

The 36-year-old Manfredo, who fought for the first time since November of 2013, got off to a slow start, but caught his second wind in the later rounds as Biosse began to fade, perhaps a byproduct of only having a handful of weeks to train.

Afterward, Manfredo pointed to the fact he had to switch from preparing for a right-hander to training for a southpaw as a reason for his early struggles, but made no excuses, complimenting Biosse for his bravado and fearless approach.

Whether Friday’s result officially ends Manfredo’s storied career as a Rhode Island icon remains to be seen, but the outcome was uplifting for Biosse, who rose to the challenge despite having lost his last five fights and earned a draw against one of New England’s most celebrated fighters.

Also on the undercard, New Haven, Conn., welterweight Jimmy Williams (11-0-1) remained unbeaten in a 59-54, 59-54, 60-53 unanimous decision win over St. Petersburg, Fla., vet Manny Woods (15-5-1), and Holyoke, Mass., junior welterweight Mohamad Allam (3-1) avenged his September loss to Stoughton, Mass., vet Travis Demko (4-1) by handing Demko his first career loss, winning Friday’s rematch by unanimous decision, 58-56, 58-56, 59-55.

CES Boxing returns to Twin River on July 17th. Full fight details will be available soon at www.cesboxing.com. Visit www.cesboxing.com, www.twitter.com/cesboxing or www.facebook.com/cesboxing for more information.

CALLUM SMITH BACK AT GOODISON PARK

Callum Smith is back in action at Goodison Park in Liverpool on May 29, live on Sky Sports.

The Super-Middleweight sensation landed the mandatory position in the WBC with a thrilling first round KO win over European champion Hadillah Mohoumadi at the Echo Arena on April 2.

Smith was ringside in Washington DC at the end of April working as a pundit for Sky Sports as WBC champion Badou Jack held onto his title with a split draw against Lucian Bute, with IBF king James DeGale MBE beating Rogelio Medina in his second defence of his title.

“As soon as this event was announced it was one that I was desperate to be a part of it – everyone in Liverpool is buzzing about May 29,” said Smith. “I’m always in the gym and I don’t want to sit around and do nothing, I should be active at my age and at this stage of my career, and I want to keep winning and keep learning so I ready for that World title fight when it comes.

“It was good being in Washington and having the best seat in the house to watch Jack and DeGale. It was good to be around them and it made me feel that I really belong at the top level.

“I was getting my name out there in the US and I think that my profile is on the rise at the right time. I’ve never called anybody out but I’ve also never turned anybody down. I believe that I can become the best Super-Middleweight in the world and I am happy to fight whoever I have to in order to prove it.”

Smith’s return to the ring is part of a huge night of action on Merseyside as Tony Bellew looks to turn his dream into a reality and become WBC World Cruiserweight champion at the home of his beloved Everton FC against the dangerous South African Ilunga Makabu.

Callum’s older brother Stephen is also back in title action as he takes on Daniel Brizuela for the WBC Silver Super-Featherweight title following his impressive World title bid in the US in April, popular Birkenhead Lightweight Sean Dodd faces Pasquale Di Silvio, while Tom Farrell meets Kofi Yates in an eliminator for the English Super-Lightweight title.

Liverpool Heavyweight favourite David Price is back in action and there’s a host of local talents in action in JJ Metcalfe, Ged Carroll, Steve Brogan, Craig Glover and Preston’s Scott Fitzgerald. Tony Dodson has been forced out of his British Light-Heavyweight title clash with Hosea Burton with a torn Achilles.
