ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (May 14, 2016) – An elbow injury has forced M-1 Challenge middleweight champion Ramazan Emeev (pictured to left) to withdraw from his June 16th showdown with Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko at M-1 Challenge 68 at Yubileyny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Emeev (14-3-0, M-1: 8-1-0) suffered a torn ligament in his elbow during training camp, postponing his M-1 Grand Prix Middleweight Championship fight against Shlemenko (52-9-0, M-1: 3-0-0) to a future date pending Emeev’s recovery period.

M-1 Challenge heavyweight champion Alexander “Drago” Volkov (25-6-0, M-1: 9-3-0) will make his first title defense against Attila “Pumuklo” Vegh (29-6-2, M-1: 0-0-0) at M-1 Challenge 68. A match between Russian middleweight Valery “The Russian Hammer” Myasnikov (10-1-1, M-1: 1-1-1) and Spanish veteran Enoc Solves Torres (18-9-0, M-1: 5-6-0) has also been announced for the June 16th card.

“This is a tough blow for our organization because there is only one month before M-1 Challenge 68 and we have lost one of our main event fighters,” M-1 Global president Vadim Finkelchtein said. “It was the most anticipated fights for fans. We still have a great heavyweight title fight between defending champion Alexander Volkov and challenger Attila Vegh and we’re looking for a suitable replacement for Emeev to fight Shlemenko. M-1 Global has been working under a lot of pressure recently but, never-the-less, we continue to promote great events for our loyal fans. We will do everything possible to keep our fans happy.”

CHICAGO (May 13, 2016) – Power-punching fan favorite Andrzej Fonfara (28-3, 16 KOs) will enter the ring against no nonsense New Yorker Joe “The Irish Bomber” Smith Jr. (21-1, 17 KOs) on Saturday, June 18 in a 10-round primetime battle that headlines Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC from UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

Televised coverage begins at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT and will feature a bantamweight world title rematch that sees current champion Juan Carlos Payano (17-0, 8 KOs) take on three-time U.S. Olympian Rau’shee “Nuke” Warren (13-1, 4 KOs) as they rehash their rivalry that began in August 2015 when Payano won a narrow split-decision to retain his title. Also featured on the telecast is rising star Erickson “The Hammer” Lubin (14-0, 10 KOs) who faces powerful Mexican Daniel Sandoval (37-3, 34 KOs) in a super welterweight contest.

Payano and Warren first fought in Florida where Payano retained his title via split decision with scores of 113-111 twice for him and 115-109 for Warren. The fight featured consistent action and some controversy. Payano was deducted a point in round three while Warren lost two points in round nine for an intentional foul. At the end of the fight, both men raised their hands believing they had won and now they look to settle the score in Chicago.

“I knew this rematch would be offered and it’s been a waiting game since I beat him the first time,” said Payano. “I feel like I won convincingly, but some people feel otherwise. I’m very excited about fighting him again and this time I’ll beat him even more easily. Fighting on NBC is a great privilege and it’s a great place to showcase my talents. I am coming in humbled by this opportunity.”

Fonfara returns to the ring after defeating Nathan Cleverly in October at UIC Pavilion in a fight that garnered Fight of the Year consideration and saw a record number of punches landed (936) and thrown (2524) for a light heavyweight fight in CompuBox history. Prior to that, the 28-year-old became the first person to stop Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and lost a decision to world champion Adonis Stevenson in a fight that saw both men hit the canvas. From Warsaw, Poland but training out of Chicago, Fonfara will fight in the Windy City for the 20th time when he enters the ring in primetime on June 18.

Representing Long Island, New York, Smith Jr. will bring his heavy hands to primetime as he looks for his 16th straight victory on June 18. The 26-year-old was a highly decorated amateur who won the 2008 New York Golden Gloves with a victory over Seanie Monaghan. A member of the Local 66 Laborers Union between fights and the oldest of eight siblings, Smith Jr. picked up his most impressive victory of his career so far when he defeated veteran Will Rosinsky in a hotly contested battle in Brooklyn. He followed it up with a second round stoppage of Fabiano Pena in April and is set for his toughest challenge in June.

The two-time Dominican Olympian Payano will defend his title for the second time since winning a technical decision over Anselmo Moreno in September 2014. The accomplished amateur won gold at the 2006 Central American and Caribbean games with victories over McJoe Arroyo and Yoandris Salinas. The unbeaten 32-year-old defeated Jundy Maraon, Jose Silveria and Luis Maldonado on the way to his title shot.

A three-time U.S. Olympian from Cincinnati, Warren is determined to make the most of his second shot at a world title. The 29-year-old turned pro in 2012 and picked up victories over veterans Jose Luis Araiza, Javier Gallo, German Meraz and Jhon Alberto Molina leading up to the first world title shot. Another fighter in veteran trainer Mike Stafford’s stable, Warren was the first member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team to earn a world title shot and will look again to become the first member of that team to capture a world title.

A highly-regarded prospect with an exciting style, the 20-year-old Lubin has burst onto the scene looking to engage and finish opponents early. Fighting out of Orlando, he has already taken down experienced veterans including Orlando Lora, Ayi Bruce, Michael Finney and Norberto Gonzalez. He was sensational in November 2015 when he knocked out Alexis Camacho on NBC and in January he headlined his first card and dominated Jose De Jesus Macias in his first 10-round bout.

A winner of 18 of his last 19 fights, Sandoval enters this fight coming off of stoppage victories over Grady Brewer and Francisco Villanueva. The 25-year-old has won his previous two starts in the U.S. with decision victories over Richard Gutierrez in 2014 and Larry Smith in 2012 and will look to take down the undefeated Lubin on June 18.

Stephen Smith will face Daniel Brizuela for the WBC Silver Super-Featherweight title at Goodison Park in Liverpool on Sunday May 29, live on Sky Sports.

Smith gets straight back into action following his fine performance in Connecticut in April where he challenged classy Puerto Rican Jose Pedraza for the IBF World title, and ‘Swifty’ now sets his sights on WBC king Francisco Vargas – but must get past a familiar face in Brizuela on his first step on that path.

Brizuela thrilled fans in Hull in February 2014 when he clashed with Tommy Coyle in a fight of the year contender for the IBF International Lightweight strap, with both men hitting the canvas four times, with three knockdowns in the 11th session that was awarded ‘round of the year’ by ESPN. The Argentine returned to Hull to meet Coyle’s city rival Luke Campbell MBE eight months later, and has since moved down to campaign back at 130lbs.

After a glittering amateur career, Eric Donovan could be forgiven for hanging his mitts up and settling for a life of reminiscing on former glories. However, Donovan, a former Irish international amateur star and European bronze medallist, isn’t most boxers and is set to make his debut in the pro ranks on Saturday, June 25 at the National Stadium, Dublin.

For almost a decade, Donovan ranked amongst Europe’s top amateur boxers, chalking up five Irish Elite National titles from Bantamweight through to Lightweight, a Four Nations gold, European Union bronze medal and a bronze at the 2010 European championships in Moscow. Now, the popular boxer has decided to take his vest off and punch-for-pay on a show co-promoted by FS Promotions and Ricky Hatton .

Discussing his decision to return to the ring Donovan, a father of two boys, explained,”I realised I hadn’t achieved my full potential in boxing and still had a lot to offer. The thought of turning professional provided me with a lot of motivation and after a number of discussions I have decided to challenge myself and make the jump into pro boxing.”

“I was disappointed not to make it to the Olympics, but a season fighting in the World Series of Boxing for the Astana Arlans gave me a new lease of life in the ring. Living and training out in Kazakhstan with some great boxers opened up my eyes and it was great to be part of the group that won the WSB Team competition”, explained Donovan.

The Athy fighter, who holds wins in the amateur code over current professionals such as Tom Stalker, James Tennyson, Patrick Hyland, Declan Geraghty and over the 2009 ‘AIBA Boxer of the Year’ Dominico Valentino, is spurred on by the achievements of many of his previous opponents.

“There is so much boxing on TV these days and I get to watch a lot of guys that I have fought, and often beaten. Their victories have encouraged me to go for it. Professional boxing is a tough game but I’m prepared for the challenge. The level of support has been amazing and I have already had to go back to the promoters and ask for more tickets because I sold out the ones I was given.”

Donovan has been keeping himself busy out of the ring, having recently completed a Diploma in Counselling, he is the Sports Ambassador for ‘I’m A Friend’ (www.imafriend.com) and as well as running a successful boxercise and fitness business, he has established himself as a boxing analyst and commentator for Irish state broadcaster, RTE.

“I was the first Irish Elite amateur champion from St. Michael’s Boxing Club in Athy and I would love to bring home the first Irish professional title to the club as well.”

“But I wont stop there, I am a quick learner and very adaptable and I am aiming to have an Irish title within five fights. Then set my sights are on a European title and a world title fight.

“I look at guys like Anthony Crolla, Ricky Burns and Terry Flanagan and think to myself that they haven’t got anything I don’t have, so I will be looking to achieve world honours like they have.”

Bristol, PA (May 13, 2016) – On Saturday night June 4th, a brand new boxing series will be launched as D and D Promotions presents its inaugural “Rumble at the Rink” Boxing series that will take place at The Grundy Arena in Bristol, Pa.

Scheduled to appear in the six-round main event will be super middleweight Derrick Webster.

Webster of Glassboro, New Jersey has a record of 19-1 with 10 knockouts and will be looking to get back in the win column after an eleven-month layoff.

Webster won his first nineteen bouts, which was highlighted by a 22-second knockout over 23-1 Obodai Sai. He is coming off his first professional blemish when he was stopped by undefeated Arif Magomedov on July 17, 2015.

British boxing’s hottest talent Jack Catterall comprehensively outpointed Malmesbury’s Joe Hughes to retain his WBO Intercontinental Super-Lightweight title and earn himself a shot at the British title. Slick southpaw Catterall dominated for large spells of a gripping encounter against a rough and ready Hughes. Ultimately, undefeated Catterall’s class showed as he took a deserved unanimous decision with scores of 115-113, 117-112 and 117-113.

The classy Catterall proved what a skilled operator he is as he earned a shot at the British title. Backed by a vocal Bolton crowed Catterall made his reach advantage count in a gripping opening round. The Chorley man continued to land punishing left hands as the fight progressed but Malmesbury’s Hughes continued to soak up the punishment and come back for more.
On his return to action in Bolton Catterall began to outclass the determined Hughes in the latter rounds. 22 year-old Catterall summoned the energy to land several impressive combos in the closing rounds but Hughes took them well denied the champion a stoppage win. Accrington action man Luke Blackledge successfully defended his Commonwealth Super-Middleweight title against Ghana’s Ishmael Tetteh at Bolton’s Macron Stadium. Blackledge, who fights out of Bolton trainer Karl Ince’s Elite Gym in Halliwell, dropped the African with a crippling body shot in the fifth. Tetteh failed to beat the referees count and Blackledge moved to 21-2-2 6 KO’s.

In a lively opener Blackledge attempted to pin his challenger down before catching him late with a big left hook. Tetteh came into the fight in the second round, letting his hands go with sharp uppercuts and body shots. In an even third round Blackledge and Tetteh both piled the pressure on one another. The determined Blackledge took hold of the fight in the fifth before sending Tetteh crashing to the canvas with a big body shot that retained his Commonwealth title.

THE WBA INTERCONTINENTAL SUPER-LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

In the first title fight of the night Belarus knockout king Kiryl Relikh emphatically defended his WBA Intercontinental Super-Middleweight title against brave Brazilian Joaquim Carniero Batista. Relikh took his red-hot record to 21-0 19 KO’s after Batista’s corner correctly retired their fighter to save him from taking any further damage.
Ricky Hatton’s super-lightweight man dominated from the opening bell, using his sharp head movement to evade trouble and countering with some beautiful left hooks that left Batista reeling. Batista continued to soak up punishment in rounds three and four before the white towel was thrown in.

JIMMY KELLY WPTS8 (80-72) VS. MICHAEL MORA
8 X 3 Minute Rounds International Super-Welterweight Contest
Manchester’s former WBO world title challenger Jimmy Kelly returned to the ring after six months out to beat Spain’s Michael Mora on points over eight rounds. The Mancunian super-welterweight puncher was made to work on his return to the ring by a rough and ready Mora. Kelly, who still holds the WBO Intercontinental title, dropped Mora twice in the final round but the brave Spaniard beat the referees count twice and clung on to lose 80-72 on points.

CIARAN MCVARNOCK WTKO1 (1:22) VS. RUSLANS BERDIMURADOVS
4 X 3 Minute Rounds International Lightweight Contest
Promising Belfast lightweight Ciaran McVarnock wasted no time as he took out Latvia’s Ruslans Berdimur in the opening round to take his record to 6-0-1 at Bolton’s Macron Stadium. In a short-lived yet electrifying contest McVarnock had his opponent down twice in the first round before the referee had seen enough.

JORDAN THOMPSON WTKO1 (1:15) VS. MATEUSZ GATEK
4 X 3 Minute Rounds International Cruiserweight Contest
Unbeaten Manchester cruiserweight prospect Jordan Thompson made short work of Poland’s Mateusz Gatek to take his record to 3-0 3 KO’s. A huge left hook from Thompson sent Gatek crashing to the floor before the referee waved off the fight; much to the delight of the Mancunian mountain who let out a roar of approval.

GARY SWEENEY WTKO1 (1:17) VS. MARIO LAKATOS
4 X 3 Minute Rounds International Cruiserweight Contest
Ireland’s cruiserweight prospect Gary Sweeney made an explosive start to life in the paid ranks with a first round stoppage win over Slovakia’s Mario Lakatos. The big-hitting County Co-Mayo man had his opponent down three times in the opening round before the referee waved the contest off at 1 minute and 17 seconds.

VIJENDER SINGH WTKO3 (2:00) VS. ANDRZEJ SOLDRA
8 X 3 Minute Rounds International Middleweight Contest
Indian ring sensation Vijender Singh continued his march towards a huge homecoming fight in India with another explosive knockout win over Poland’s Anderzej Soldra. The big-hitting man from the Bhiwani district in Haryana completely outclassed Soldra before the referee waved-off the contest two minutes into the third round.

All-action Singh had his man down inside the first round with a massive right hand. Soldra did well to recover and survived the first round. It was more of the same in the second round as knockout merchant Singh went looking for yet another blockbuster finish.

Red-hot Singh dominated throughout the bout, landing damaging combos at will. Poland’s Soldra struggled to land any meaningful shots of his own and did well to make it to the third round. 30 year-old Singh was teeing off at will before referee Mark Lyson finally stopped the bout to save Soldra from taking anymore punishment.

Speaking after the fight Singh said: “This guy came here to fight me and gave as good as he got but my class was too much for him. I was landing with powerful shots and he couldn’t handle them. It’s another win and another step on my journey to the top of the world middleweight scene.”

He added: “Every fight is important for me. I’ve shown everyone in the UK and back home in India what I’m capable of once again and I’m excited for the future. With the backing of Francis Warren and everyone in my corner the sky is the limit.”

JACK FLATLEY WTKO1 (2:53) VS. VALENTIN STOYCHOV

Bolton boy Jack Flately blew away Bulgaria’s Valentin Stoychov inside the opening round to claim his fourth professional victory. Backed by a vocal Bolton crowd Flatley tore into Stoychov from the very first bell. It was all over before it begun as Flatley finished off the Bulgarian with a punishing body shot 2 minutes and 53 seconds into round one.

DALE COYNE WPTS4 (39-38) VS. CRISTIAN HOSKIN GOMEZ
4 X 3 Minute Rounds Super-Middleweight Contest
Steve Maylett-trained super-middleweight prospect Dayle Coyne outpointed Plymouth’s Cristian Hoskin Gomez 39-38 to pick up his fourth pro win in an evenly contested bout. The flame-haired Manchester Super-Middleweight grew into the fight and landed some punishing body shots on Gomez. Both men gave a good account of themselves but it was Coyne who edged the contest, landing more accurately on Gomez.

ZELFA BARRETT WTKO2 (1:52) VS. CHRIS ADAWAY
6 X 3 Minute Rounds Lightweight Contest
Red-hot Manchester lightweight prospect Zelfa Barrett earned an explosive stoppage win over Plymouth’s Chris Adaway to claim his tenth professional win at Bolton’s Macron Stadium.
Barrett put Adaway down in the first round with a huge right hand shot that landed on the bell. Adaway beat the count but it was more of the same in the second round as ‘Brown Flash’ continued to pick and time his shots.
It was all over in the third round after the brave Adaway was dropped for a third time. Adaway did his best to defend himself from Barrett’s punishing shots but the Mancunian’s precision and power proved too much for him to handle.

MACAULAY MCGOWAN WPTS8 (78-74) VS. CHRIS JENKINSON
8 X 3 Minute Rounds Super-Welterweight Contest
21 year-old McCauley McGowan outpointed Bolton’s Chris Jenkinson 78-74 to pick up the tenth pro win of his promising career. McGowan was up against an experienced operator in Jenkinson who made him work hard for his win. Jenkinson repeatedly forced Wythenshawe’s McGowan to dig deep, tagging his opponent with a series of solid head shots in the fourth. Former England Youth rep McGowan took hold of the bout in the latter stages as Jenkinson finally began to tire and came away with a hard-fought victory.

LAS VEGAS (May 12, 2016) – A fight nearly broke out between undefeated cruiserweights Andrew “The Beast”Tabiti and Keith “Machine Gun” Tapia at Thursday’s weigh-in for the ShoBox: The New Generation quadrupleheader tomorrow, May 13, live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from Sam’s Town Live.

As the boxers approached each other for the traditional face-off photo after weighing in, words were exchanged, Tapia antagonized Tabiti, prompting him to shove Tapia. It was chaos on the Ponderosa Room stage at Sam’s Town for a couple of minutes afterward until order was restored.

Talented Mayweather Promotions star Tabiti (12-0, 11 KOs), of Las Vegas, and power-puncher Tapia (17-0, 11 KOs), of Bronx N.Y, will take their frustrations out on each other in the ShoBox cruiserweight main event.

In the co-main event—also featuring undefeated cruiserweights— 2012 U.S. Olympian, Michael Hunter (11-0, 8 KOs), of Las Vegas, faces Isiah Thomas (15-0, 6 KOs), of Detroit.

Other televised fights: TMT’s Ronald “The Thrill” Gavril (15-1, 11 KOs), of Las Vegas, will clash with hard-punching Colombian Juan Camilo “La Boa” Novoa (25-6-1, 23 KOs) in a 10-round super middleweight bout and his TMT stablemate, Sanjarbek “War” Rakhmanov (4-0, 3 KOs), of Las Vegas by way of Uzbekistan, will be opposed by Alfonso Olvera (7-2, 3 KOs), of Tucson, Ariz., in a six-round super lightweight match that will open the telecast. All but Gavril will be making their ShoBox debuts.

LOS ANGELES (May 12, 2016) – Featherweight world champion Jesus Cuellar and former three-division world champion Abner Mares went face-to-face for the first time Thursday as they hosted media roundtables in Los Angeles ahead of their showdown on Saturday, June 25 showdown live on CBS from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS, presented by Premier Boxing Champions, begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and is headlined by the highly anticipated welterweight clash between welterweight world champion Keith Thurman and former world champion Shawn Porter.

With both men training in California, the two met for the first time at The Palms Restaurant about their fight and respective training camps before they head east to Brooklyn for the primetime battle.

JESUS CUELLAR

“I’ve been training very hard for this fight. You will see on June 25 that I have one of the best chins out there. I’m excited to finally have this fight.

“I have no bitterness towards Robert Garcia. I’ve seen him and I’m thankful for him making me a champion. This is business. This is work.

“We’ve been training in Big Bear for a little over two months now so I’m pushing myself very hard for this fight. I’m thankful for this great opportunity and I want to make the most of it.

“On June 25, I will once again give it my all and leave it all in the ring. At the end of the fight I will prove who the champion is and raise my hand in victory.

“I’m focused and well prepared. I’m ready for anything that happens. I know I’m going to win the fight. It doesn’t matter how, but I’m going to win.

“This is the same team we’ve had for four years, whether Robert Garcia is here or not. We’re ready to take on anyone.

“We’ve wanted this fight for two years and finally it is the time. We’re going to be in great shape and I know Mares will be in great shape too. We’re very happy that the fight was made. June 25 I’m going to prove that I am the number one featherweight champion.

“I’m really happy to be a part of this card against a really tough fighter in Jesus Cuellar. I know he’s mentioned that he wants to fight me and I’ve never been scared to do so. It’s all about timing. Now he’s going to know what it’s like to fight a top level fighter.

“I’ve been in boxing for many years. I’ve fought many tough fights. Against Leo Santa Cruz it wasn’t the outcome that we wanted, but we showed that we have the heart and the intelligence to fight top level guys.

“I’m happy that I’m fighting some with a legacy. Jesus Cuellar is a tough fighter, he hits hard and I respect him. I have nothing bad to say about him as a person. I know he’s going to be well conditioned, but I’m a level higher and I’m going to show it on June 25.

“This is a fight that I can gain so much and Robert Garcia too. He’s going to show, through me, that it was a big mistake for Cuellar to leave him.

“I feel great about the Santa Cruz fight, despite the loss on my record. It was a win, because I gained so much, a lot of respect and a lot of experience.

“I have a lot of reasons to be excited about this fight. One, I’m finally going to New York. I’ve never been there in my life. Two, I will become a world champion again. Three, I’m definitely fighting a top-level fighter. As I’ve mentioned many times before, I like these types of fights. It always brings out the best in me.

“Against Cuellar you’re going to see a different Abner, a new Abner. With Robert Garcia as my coach I have the slight advantage that he once trained Cuellar and took him to a world title. He’s a tough fighter, but he can’t say I’m not either.”

“We worked with Robert for four fights. We worked together and made Jesus a better fighter. Now there is the opportunity to continue working with Jesus, so I see no controversy or problems there.

ORANGE, Calif. (May 12, 2016) – Top Nicaraguan prospect Roberto Arriaza (11-0, 10 KOs) makes his U.S. debut one week from Friday against Cameron Kreal (8-9-2, 1 KO) of Las Vegas. It is perhaps the most intriguing fight on the undercard of Thompson Boxing Promotions “New Blood” Anniversary Event.

The action takes place Friday, May 20, from the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.

Arriaza, a welterweight boasting substantial punching power in either mitt, has been in the U.S. since April, training feverishly for the 8-round fight against Kreal. He is largely an unknown commodity in the States. He’s counting on an impressive showing to endear himself to the influential Southern California audience

“I’m coming in well prepared for this fight,” said the 26-year-old. “It’s important to make a statement in my first U.S. event. I want to show the fans that my talent is real and to expect great things from me down the road.”

May, 2016- Roberto Marroquin, 25-3-1, (18KOs) is back in action this Saturday night in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, at the UAT – Universidad Autonoma De Tamaulipas, Mexico.

Marroquin, who resides in Dallas, Texas, joined the paid ranks in 2008, after an extensive amateur career, in which he won several silver medals, at the 2005 National Junior Olympics, 2006 International Aliyev Cup, the 2006 National PAL Championships, and a Gold medal at the 2006 National Junior Olympics, and once more at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

Aside from winning a medal in the Olympic Trials, the other highlight of his amateur career is notching a win over current WBC Featherweight champion Gary Russell.

Leaving behind 165-15 mark in the unpaid ranks, Marroquin entered the pro-ranks right after the 2008 U.S Olympic Team Trial, going on to win 19 in a row, 14 by stoppage, before losing for the first time, a split decision, to Francisco Leal, (R.I.P) from which Marroquin learned a lot.

”No opponent is to be overlooked, Leal was a good fighter and it was a close fight.”

Against Leal, Marroquin took a loss on a decision, there was a clash of heads, bleeding badly, Marroquin could not see, he fought the best he could.

”Frankie was a tough guy, came to fight and won the fight.” Said Marroquin.

Leal went on to battle the likes of future world champion Evgeny Gradovich before fighting Raul Hirales, in a fight in which Leal met his untimely end.

Marroquin soldiered through, going on to get his title shot… against Rigondeaux.

The fight against the ultra-difficult Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux took place on September of 2012 for the WBA 122 Lb. Title, ending on the wrong side of the ledger, no shame in losing to the most complicated fighter today.

In the fight against Daniel Diaz in 2013, Diaz dropped Marroquin in the first round, ruptured two ligaments in his right ankle, going on to fight the rest of the bout injured and after ten rounds, almost pulled it off, close fight, losing via split decision.

A rematch was set up, but was called off as a snowstorm came in and the card was canceled.

After the fight, Marroquin became a free agent, cutting ties with promoter Top Rank, who had signed him early on, in his career.

With two fights in the last two years, both by stoppage, a renewed Marroquin, still very young (26 years old) and enjoys very good height for the weight class at 5’9, he feels he has time on his side and the experience to achieve his goal of a world title… or two.

Marroquin Battles Another Undefeated Fighter in This Outing.

For this outing, Marroquin who has fought the majority of his bouts in the super bantamweight and Feather Weight ranks, will be fighting in the Super Featherweight class in a ten round bout against an undefeated fighter in Carlos Diaz ”Chuko” Ramirez, 19-0, (10KOs) hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico.

Having grown up and his body filled in and fighting in the Super Featherweight ranks for this bout, Marroquin states that he can still do Featherweight, but as this fight is at a catch-weight, he is comfortable and will see is this new weight class suits him best.

”I can do the weight, (Featherweight) but I have grown up and my body has filled out, I feel very good and strong now, and based on the outcome of this fight, me and my team will talk about which weight class we will stay in” said Marroquin.

Long-time manager, Luis Perez since he turned pro, in one capacity or another, but as the main manager now, along with with Paul Reyes (trainer) and Sergio Diaz as the co-main manager.

A fixture in Texas boxing circles, Reyes had retired but came back for Marroquin.

In the last two outings for Marroquin, the Dallas, Texas fighter walked away with wins.
The first one came against Miguel Soto, a previously undefeated Puerto Rican, beating him in four.

Another undefeated fighter in Kien Evans lost that status against Marroquin, who took the WBC / U.S.A Feather title.

Getting a win against Ramirez this Saturday night is crucial, as a loss is a monkey-wrench at best, with a win, leading the way to another title shot in the near future.

The fight card will be presented by Zanfer promotions.

BeINsports en Espanol will televise in the U.S., while Azteca 7 will handle the broadcast in Mexico.

SAM EVANS says he was made for fighting and he’ll prove it in Walsall this Saturday night (May 14).

The 20-year-old is quietly spoken outside of the ring, but inside it he lets his fists do the talking.

This weekend he gets the opportunity to stretch his perfect professional record to four victories when he faces Bulgaria’s Teodor Stefanov on Hatton Promotions and Black Country Boxing’s co-promotion at Banks’s Stadium.

“I’ve always been a fighter, it’s something that my dad bred into me when I was a kid so being a professional boxer is perfect job for me,” he said.

“People keep telling me I need to talk more and make more noise, but I think that as long I keep doing the business in the ring then that says enough.

“I could say I’m going to do this and that to my opponents, but there’s no need. They will know what I’m all about when the bell rings.”

Despite fighting being in his blood, Evans admits that he has added many more levels to his arsenal since linking up with British boxing legend Ricky Hatton last summer.

“I was pure aggression when I first turned pro. I just wanted to get close to my opponent and let my punches go,” he recalled.

“Ricky has taught me so much and although I’m still aggressive, I know when to take my foot of the gas and look for the openings now.

“It’s still early in my career, but I think I’m a completely different fighter to what I was a few months ago. If I can learn so much in such little time, it’s frightening to think what I’ll be capable of in a year or so.”

This Saturday’s show also features Evans’ stable mate Nathan Gorman alongside the return of former British lightweight champion Martin Gethin and unbeaten prospects Chad Sugden and Kieron McLaren. Rowley Regis’s popular Jason Welborn is also in action against William Warburton.

A new summer series of PBC on ESPN begins Saturday June 4 on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at 11 p.m. ET. The cards will air evenings June through August on ESPN and ESPN Deportes; all fights will also simulcast on WatchESPN.

The June 4 card will air live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. The card features light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev against 2008 Argentinean Olympian Ezequiel Maderna in a 10-round fight from Montreal’s Bell Centre. The co-feature pits undefeated welterweights Bryant Perrella and David Grayton, also scheduled for 10 rounds.

Washington, DC (May 12, 2016)– This Friday night in Washington, DC, Thomas Snow will meet Luis Orlando Del Valle (21-2, 16 KO’s) in the co-feature bout of nationally televised show live on BET.

The show is promoted by Roc Nation Sports.

Snow of Washington, DC has a record of 18-2 with 12 knockouts and this is a big opportunity fighting on a big platform.

“Training camp went great. It was a perfect camp and now it is time to do something, and I am going out there to get the win.”

Asked what he knew about Del Valle, Snow did know much other than some basic information.

“Del Valle is a conventional fighter from Puerto Rico. He has a similar record, but hasn’t fought many good guys. I saw his fight with (former world champion) Vic Darchinyan. (A fight that Del Valle lost via unanimous decision in 2012).

This is a fight that most boxing experts believe is a crossroads fight, with the winner leaping into contention, but Snow does not feel the pressure of the fight.

“I think he has more to lose then me. I am moving up two weight classes. I would prefer to be fighting at 115 pounds, but the opportunities have been coming at higher weights. With that being said, I don’t think he is on my level. So I am confident in this fight and the win will be an awesome breakthrough.”

Despite fighting in his hometown, Snow does not think that plays any part in who will win the fight.

“There is no advantage to that. In boxing, it just takes one punch and that crowd I not help that.”

“I know what I did in training camp and I am prepared. I am not fearful of any man. God blessed me with skills and I am going to do the work. I just know by keeping God in your life, everything will go great for you.”

MONTREAL (May 11, 2016) — World light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev returns to the ring Saturday night, June 7, to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) International and North American Boxing Association (NABA) title belts against Argentinian champion Ezequiel “El Olympico” Maderna in the 12-round main event at historic Bell Center in Montreal, Canada.

Presented by Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM), the “Grand Prix” boxing event is part of the prestigious Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) series, which will air live in Canada on pay-per-views starting at 8:00 p.m. ET via Canal Indigo, Bell TV and Shaw TV. The main event and co-feature, commencing at 11:00 p.m. ET / 8:00 p.m. PT, will be broadcast on ESPN in the United States.

“We will launch the Grand Prix activities, which is the biggest sport week in Montreal, with this card”, said the President of GYM, Yvon Michel. “Artur is the next boxing superstar in Quebec. He injured his shoulder, but the surgery fixed everything and we plan to give him three fights in 2016. We aim at Sergey Kovalev by the end of the year or the beginning of 2017.”

The 31-year-old Beterbiev (9-0, 9 KOs), the adopted son of Montreal, is on a seek-and-destroy mission for his first fight in one year. The two-time Russian Olympian (pictured to the left) hasn’t fought since last June, when he stopped Alexander Johnson in the 7th round, due to a shoulder injury that required surgery.

Philadelphia, PA—Middleweight standout DeCarlo Perez, in an effort to get back into position on the world boxing scene, has left his job at Atlantic City (NJ) Hospital to concentrate full-time on his June 3 main event contest against Dashon Johnson, of Escondido, CA, at the 2300 Arena.

It makes sense. Johnson is the 42-fight veteran who came within one second in the 10th and final round of stopping unbeaten Jesse Hart in the same ring March 18. Hart was knocked down with 17 seconds to go and barely
beat the count.

Perez, 25, of Atlantic City, has worked for the last six years as a Pharmacy Tech at Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center, putting in 40-50 hour weeks while also training as a professional boxer.
After winning nine out of 10 fights–against solid opposition–to place him on the doorstep of the world ratings, Perez was stopped by unbeaten Rob Brant, of St. Pau, MN, in the fourth round of their Jan. 22 fight in Tucson, AZ, for the vacant NABA middleweight title.
“Right now, I have to devote full-time to my boxing career when I’m still young enough to do it,” said Perez. “The hospital job will always be available to me because I’ve been there for some time and I’ve made a lot of connections there. The people at my job understand where I’m coming from and they completely support my decision.”
Drained by making 160 for the fight with Brant, Perez has decided to put on a few pounds and grow into the super middleweight division. The fight with Johnson will be contested at 164 pounds.
Perez had a troubled childhood, going from one rescue mission to another before moving in with his grandparents when he was 6 years old. He grandfather used to work out with Robert Duran and that piqued Perez’ interest in boxing. When he was 10, Perez began going to the Pleasantville (NJ) Rec Center, where he met his current trainer, Wilberto Alejandro. They now train at the Bullpen Gym in Egg Harbor (NJ) Township.
“Moving in with my grandparents was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Perez said. My grandfather told me there will be ups and downs but if you keep at it you will be a champion.
“Next comes my relationship with Will—it’s like father and son. There isn’t any other person I would want to go into battle with than Will. He’s taught me and he’s groomed me and vice versa. We know what we both are capable of and we truly believe there is no enemy in front of us that can beat us. It’s taken time for me to see that he is right.”
Perez started at Atlantic City High School, then he switched to Egg Harbor HS where he graduated.
As an amateur, Perez says he was 85-15 but without any regional or national titles. He turned pro, he said, after losing what he thought was a bad decision in a Golden Gloves tournament.
A pro since 2010, Perez is 15-4-1, 5 K0s, and he is 3-0 at the 2300 Arena, where he outpointed Jesse Nicklow and scored knockouts over Tyrone Brunson and Tolan Tascoe.
Prior to the Brant fight, Perez had won nine out of 10, including an impressive win on ShoBox last summer against Juan Ubaldo Cabrera, of the Dominican Republic, who was 23-0 at fight time.
“I feel this fight against Dashon Johnson is going to be a great competitive fight,” Perez said. “Johnson has been in there with good fighters but I believe on June 3 he will be facing his toughest challenge. I know he will be ready and I will make sure I am above and beyond prepared.”

Felix Cash has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing and will make his professional debut at The O2 in London on June 25, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Decorated amateur Cash kicks off at Middleweight in the Greenwich venue and the Wokingham talent believes he’ll be hunting titles next summer as the 23 year old looks to transfer his amateur pedigree into the paid ranks, starting with a pro bow on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s first IBF World Heavyweight title defence.

The Perrella-Grayton bout serves as the co-main event of a Premier Boxing Champions card televised on ESPN.

Living and fighting out of Fort Myers, FL, the heavy-handed Perrella has a stellar 13-0 professional ledger with 12 wins by knockout. Against Grayton, the 6’0 Perrella fights on TV for a third consecutive time, previously halting both Chaquib Fadli and Ramon Ayala. “I know he’s undefeated and is coming to fight but this is a big step up for him,” Perrella said of Grayton. “I expect him to try and drag me into a dog fight. Regardless of what he brings, I’m looking forward to come out on top with a great performance. I’ve fought the better opposition and have been asking for harder fights. I believe I’m an overall better fighter and on June 4 everybody will see that.”

Millville, NJ (May 11, 2016) – Welterweight contender Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna is ready for a breakthrough fight at 147 pounds.

The 24 year-old from Millville, New Jersey has won four straight since his only career blemish, which was a nationally televised defeat to Middleweight Contender Antoine “Action” Douglas.

Since that bout, LaManna has moved down two weight divisions and has been around the welterweight limit in his last three bouts. With those four wins, LaManna’s record now reads 20-1 with eight knockouts.

In the last three fights against veterans Ayi Bruce, Ariel Vasquez and Kendal Mena, LaManna has been settling in at the new weight and has looked strong as he has sat down more on his punches.

“I’m looking for a big fight at 147 or if the right opportunity presents itself, I would consider 154. I don’t consider myself an “opponent” in the boxing world, I just need my opportunity to prove so,” said LaManna.

For the meantime, LaManna, who along with his mother Debra, have started their own promotional company, Rising Promotions.

Rising Promotions has staged two successful fight cards at the Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City and they are preparing for their third event, which will take place on May 27.

“This will be the first event of ours that I won’t be fighting on. I have been doing a lot of the behind the scenes work on the event, helping with all aspects of the show and right now we are on track for another great event in front of our third straight maximum capacity crowd.”

After May 27, LaManna already has his mind set on his next ring appearance.

“My next fight date is July 22nd. I will fight in a 10 round bout at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City. I’m just keeping active with my promotional team Rising Promotions and Gulf Stream Promotions.”

After the fight in July, LaManna has a fighter in mind that he feels that would be a great fight for boxing fans on the east coast.

“I will be keeping a close eye on the Dusty Harrison vs. Mike Dallas Jr fight this weekend. I know Dusty is the favorite in that fight and I wish him nothing but the best but by the end of this year, we got to make a fight happen between him and I. I feel he’ll be 30-0 after Friday and I would love to have that 30-0 record on my resume. A lot of people in the boxing world from New York to Virginia would be excited to see this fight and it will be great for who ever promotes it.”

LaManna also has his eyes on other contenders.

“I see Kermit Cintron has returned, maybe we do a crossroads fight. Two local east coast guys. He has a following, I have a following. I’m sure we can get that done if he wants it.”

“I feel my promoter Vincent Ponte and my father did their part in getting me where I need to be in the boxing world. I’m blessed with the fan base that I have where I can sell out a 700 plus seat venue in Atlantic City where we do our shows at. There’s nothing wrong with staying busy and fighting durable guys but I just feel it’s that time someone gives me a shot.”

LaManna credits a lot of his recent success to not only his team, but fighters that he trains with to help motivate and raise his game to a high level

“Me and my trainers Raul Rivas, Reggie Loyd and Rashiem Jefferson have been working extremely hard in the gym perfecting my craft and looking to make a lot of noise in the boxing world. I am fortunate to train along side world class fighters such as Tevin Farmer and Jason Sosa to name a few and they inspire me to be great. I feel now is my time. I’m still young but I feel I have veteran mentality when I’m in the gym or in the ring.”

TAMPA (May 10, 2016) – Fighting for his young family, as well as to expand the legacy associated with his last name, the son of 5-time world champion and 1996 U.S. Olympian Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver – unbeaten junior middleweight prospect Antonio Tarver, Jr. – this past weekend continued establishing his own identity in the ring.

After a 9-month absence, the 28-year-old Tarver (4-0, 3 KOs) returned to the ring in Lakeland, Florida, stopping Jose Cortez in the second round. Tarver displayed his improving skills, especially a punishing body attack, during a thoroughly dominating performance. He broke-down Cortez and closed the show in style.

“It took me one round to get rid of ring rust,” he explained. “We had a game-plan to go to the body, then the head, body and head, but it took me a round to do it. God’s really blessed me and I owe all thanks to Him. My father and coach, Jimmy Williams, have always told me not to look for a knockout but that it’ll come. I’m not a one-punch knockout fighter. It’s all about setting up shots and putting them together. I may not connect with every single body shot I throw, but if I get in three of four each round, it’ll eventually cause damage. I’m focusing on my opponent’s liver and ribs, trying to be a body-snatcher.”

Tarver was an athlete, playing basketball and football, who didn’t start boxing until he was 19. He had a very brief amateur career and fully realizes that he’s consistently going to be fighting more experienced boxers.

“In the ring,” Tarver said, “I’m still a baby. My opponents may be much more experienced than me, but I do have a lot of experience around me: my father, coach Williams and Darrell Foreman. My father wouldn’t support me as a fighter until I proved to him that I was worthy (sacrificing and training). I’m worthy now and believe I’m coming into my own as I continue to learn.”

“As a father,” Tarver Sr., noted, “I wanted him to know what he was getting into and have the tools to succeed. He’s as tough as nails. When he realizes how strong he really is…..look out. There’s a difference between hitting an opponent with a punch and punching through him like he’s doing now. I just wish he’d get started quicker. He doesn’t get going until he gets hit and then he turns into a beast. A ferociousness comes out from inside that I never had. He’s improving all of the time. He’s putting punches together better and sitting down on his punches.

“Antonio is going to be a fan-friendly fighter. I know I put him under a lot of pressure, but he’s fighting much more experienced guys. I’ve never been worried about him fighting a tough guy. It’s the guys who think in the ring and have amateur pedigree that can be problems for him.”

Understanding that his opponents get pumped to fight him because of his last name, Antonio Jr. rationalizes that, taking advantage of the situation he is in. “It’s very important for my opponents to beat me and the name,” he admitted. “My father set this stage for me and my name is, Antonio Tarver, Jr., so they’re trying to give us both a loss. I’m fighting for my family and to protect the legacy of my last name. I try and take advantage of being my father’s son and accept everything that goes with that. I don’t try to put pressure on myself but, of course, I want to be the best Antonio Tarver Jr. I can be.

“People are always going to compare me with my father but we fight in different weight classes. Light heavyweights, other than Roy Jones Jr., are slower than junior middleweights, who are much quicker like Floyd Mayweather, Jr. I’m always going to be fighting opponents taller than me, or sometimes the same height, but I’m 5′ 9″ and a lot of my opponents are going to be 6′ 2” or so.

The father has another important lesson he’s teaching his son. “Antonio became a father for the first time last September and he was slow getting back in the gym,” Antonio Sr. added. “He has to learn how to balance fatherhood with his pro boxing career, making sacrifices to become a champion!”
