QUINCY, Mass. (June 15, 2023) – Granite Chin Promotions (GCP) is bringing boxing back to Quincy, outdoors at Veterans Memorial Stadium for the benefit of Operation Homefront, on Friday night, August 11 (rain date Aug. 12), at Veterans Memorial Stadium .

“Veterans Stadium Showcase” will showcase many of the best and most popular professional and amateur boxers throughout New England, particularly those from Massachusetts. Quincy has hosted a few outdoor amateur events in the past, but this will be the first in the City of Presidents (Quincy natives John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams) to feature professionals fighting under the lights. Quincy is a coastal city of 100,000, located in the shadows of Boston to the south.

“What a night this is going to be,” GCP president Chris Traietti said. “Not only are fans going to see some of the state’s best fighters in the ring, but we are also raising money for Operation Homefront to help out veterans and their families. I can’t think of a better spot for this than the beautifully renovated Veterans Memorial Stadium. I want to thank the New England Free Jacks (pro rugby team based in Quincy) for their assistance in making this event happen.”

Former New England Welterweight Champion Mike “Bad Man, Ohan, Jr. (18-2, 9 KOs) takes on Harry “The Hitman” Gigliotti (9-4, 3 KOs), reigning ABF Atlantic super lightweight title holder, in a classic Intra-Bay State throw-down rivalry fight between fighters from, respectively, Holbrook versus Haverhill. The eight-round, main event is a non-title junior welterweight bout that promises to have future title implications for the winner.

“I’m excited to headline a big local show,” Ohan commented. “I’m going to go out there and show everyone that I’m a top-level fighter.”

“I’m thrilled to be headlining this show in Quincy,” Gigliotti added. “I know Mike is going to come at me with everything he’s got, but I’m bringing my A-game too, and I’m confident that I can outlast him and win by decision. I’m excited to give the fans a great show. Anything beyond a decision is just a bonus.”

In the co-featured event, two belts will be on the line in another All-Mass. showdown – only Eastern vs. Western – in the eight-round middleweight unification fight between newly crowned USBF Middleweight Champion Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste (5-3, 2 KOs), of Woburn, and Massachusetts middleweight title holder Jamer Jones (3-1, 3 KOs), of Pittsfield.

Undefeated middleweight prospect Francis “Frank The Tank” Hogan (14-0, 13 KOs), of nearby Weymouth (MA), is slated to be in action against an opponent to be determined. Hogan was a celebrated amateur who was a 2020 USA Boxing Olympic Team alternate as well as a 2010 New England Golden Gloves champion.

The undercard will soon be announced.

Boxing in Quincy dates back to the 1880s and Jake Kilrain, a bare-knuckle boxing champion who is inducted in the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame, in addition to the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF). Kilrain, who is buried in Quincy’s St. Mary’s Cemetery, fought legends such as John L. Sullivan and James J. Corbett.

Sterling (23-3, fighting out of Uniondale, N.Y.) looks to make a statement and cement himself as the greatest bantamweight in UFC history. NEW YORK – June 14, 2023 – Undefeated boxing superstars and pound-for-pound greats Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. and Terence “Bud” Crawford verbally sparred and provoked the other with sharp and sometimes comical one-liners during a lively press conference Wednesday in New York to preview their clash for the undisputed welterweight championship on Saturday, July 29 in a SHOWTIME PPV (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas headlining a Premier Boxing Champions event.

“I’m the biggest (fish). He’s not catching me with no damn fishing pole,” Spence said, continuing the war of metaphors with Crawford, who promised to “gut” Spence in the ring. “He better come with a submarine. I’m the biggest shark. You ain’t catching Moby Dick with a fishing pole.”

“Fish fillet,” Crawford responded. “I like to go fishing,” he said at another point. “Everyone knows that’s my hobby.”

The unified WBC, WBA and IBF Champion Spence and WBO champion Crawford completed back-to-back, coast-to-coast press conferences in Times Square as they near their long anticipated clash to crown the first undisputed welterweight world champion in the four-belt era.

Frazer Clarke and Mariusz Wach put on open workouts in central London on Wednesday,  Wach powering punches into his padholder’s mitts while Olympic bronze medallist Clarke shadow-boxed skilfully in the sweltering heat.

Midlands man Clarke rates the experienced Wach highly and has put in a serious training camp. 

“It’s been really difficult. I’ve taken this fight very seriously. Mariusz Wach is a very good opponent.

“This is true competition between two fighters that both want to win. He’s very good at what he does, very experienced. I’ve got full respect for him. But I’m here to do a job.”

“Much respect to this man. He’s absolutely correct there will be solid shots going in and I expect solid shots back. A competitive fight, a good fight and I hope it entertains everyone.

“If it goes the distance, it goes the distance. I take this round by round. I’m confident in my ability and I know what I came to do. I want to let people know that I’m here and I mean business. I want titles.”

Wach is also a man on a mission:

Caroline Dubois is also on the title trail.

She will attempt to prove her world class credentials in a key step-up against Argentina’s Yanina Lescano on Friday’s show.

“I’m aiming for the top dogs. I’m not going to get there fighting nobodies and people that aren’t going to push me. I’m not going to learn and I’m not going to improve,” Dubois told Sky Sports News.

Lescano is well ranked with world title sanctioning bodies and gave Olympic champion Estelle Mossely a good fight. It’s a significant moment then for Dubois but one the Londoner welcomes.

“When you step in the ring with someone who’s up there, the only way you’re going to beat them is by going above them. Hopefully she comes and brings it, which I’m sure she will,” Dubois said.

“I’m ready to raise my game.”

Aaron McKenna subjected fellow unbeaten fighter Uisma Lima to a tense staredown after their public workouts.

Lima, with a knockout ratio of 80 percent, might be dangerous but McKenna warned: “He’s never ever shared the ring with anyone like me.”

The Irishman wants to be the finisher in this fight. “I believe I will knock this guy out,” McKenna said. “I’ve seen a few clips of his fights and he doesn’t like getting hit.

Isaac Chamberlain is putting behind him the frustration of Mikael Lawal pulling out of their British cruiserweight title fight and his bout being postponed from the Bournemouth bill at the end of last month.

“It’s just about keeping my professionalism,” Chamberlain said. “The team that I have, they’ve kept me on track.”

On Friday, the Londoner gets to fight in front of a home crowd against Dylan Bregeon, a former European title challenger and French national champion.

“Very, very credible,” Chamberlain said. “I’m always focused, I’m always locked in and I can’t wait to put on a great performance.”

York Hall was also the scene of a great win for Chamberlain when, against Wadi Camacho in 2016, he won despite dislocating his shoulder.

“I still have PTSD from that fight! It’s literally like a lion’s den,” Chamberlain said of the historic venue. “There’s something special about York Hall. It’ll go on forever. It’s one of the legendary arenas of British boxing.

“I expect a great night of boxing. All I have to do is adapt and overcome. I’ve been motivated throughout the setbacks.”

He final predication was simple: “Knockout.”

Anees Taj has drawn Viddal Riley into a rematch, which will also take place on this York Hill bill.

Riley beat him in February but Taj insisted: “It was an inconclusive victory because of the cut.”

If that last bout did leave any unanswered questions, Riley has every intention of settling the issue on Friday. “He’s here again so I’m looking forward to it. After Friday, it will be conclusive,” Riley promised.

“I’m just looking forward to having the most spoken about, anticipated, exciting fight on the night.”

LAS VEGAS (June 14, 2023) — Pound-for-pound dynamo Seniesa “Super Bad” Estrada will defend her WBC and WBA minimumweight world titles against Argentina’s former world champion Leonela Yudica on Friday, July 28 at Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

In the 10-round junior lightweight co-feature, unbeaten Las Vegas native Andres “Savage” Cortes will take on Sacramento-born contender Xavier Martinez.

The entire Estrada-Yudica card will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+.

Promoted by Top Rank, tickets starting at $50 go on sale Thursday, June 15 at 12 p.m. PT and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com.

“Seniesa Estrada is one of the very best fighters on the planet and is only getting better with every fight,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “Yudica is an experienced championship-level fighter who will be undeterred fighting on the big stage. I expect a sensational fight on July 28, along with a co-feature between Cortes and Martinez that promises fireworks.”

Estrada (24-0, 9 KOs) is a 12-year pro who has competed at the world class level in three weight classes. In 2019, she beat U.S. Olympic bronze medalist Marlen Esparza to capture the WBA interim flyweight world title. Two years later, she captured the WBA minimumweight and WBO light flyweight titles in fights against Anabel Ortiz and Tenkai Tsunami. Estrada then vacated those belts to pursue undisputed glory at minimumweight. She signed with Top Rank in 2022 and returned from a nearly 11-month layoff in November of that year to shut out Jazmin Gala Villarino. In March, she added the WBC belt to her collection with a shutout win over the previously unbeaten Tina Rupprecht.

“I am willing to fight any woman in or around my weight class, and I respect Yudica for accepting the challenge,” Estrada said. “My goal is to become the undisputed champion at minimumweight, but I can’t achieve that goal without defeating Yudica first. She is standing in my way, and I am coming to Las Vegas to make an emphatic statement.”

Yudica (19-1-3, 1 KO) debuted as a pro in April 2012 and captured the IBF flyweight world title with a split decision win against Gabriela Bouvier in December 2014. She held the title for nearly eight years, fighting to a draw in her first defense against Vanesa Lorena Taborda in 2015 before defending it seven times. The native of San Juan, Argentina, lost the belt in a tightly contested split decision loss to Arely Muciño in October 2022 and is coming off a 10-round decision victory over Tamara Elisabet Demarco in April. 

Yudica said, “I’m taking this amazing opportunity to show the world what Argentinian fighters are made of. I’m bringing the belts back home to San Juan with me.”

Cortes (19-0, 10 KOs) was a standout amateur, defeating Teofimo Lopez twice in the unpaid ranks. A seven-year pro, Cortes made his Top Rank debut in 2020 and has built a reputation for engaging in action-packed affairs. He shined on the Emanuel Navarrete-Liam Wilson undercard in February, shutting out Puerto Rican upstart Luis Melendez in his first scheduled 10-rounder. Martinez (18-1, 12 KOs) returns to action following an 11-month layoff, intent on proving he belongs in the junior lightweight title conversation. He rebounded from a one-sided loss to Robson Conceição with a stoppage win over Alejandro Guerrero last August.

Undercard action includes two competitive matchups featuring talents from four different Latin American countries.  

Puerto Rican-born junior lightweight contender Abraham “El Super” Nova (22-1, 15 KOs) will face Colombian former world champion Jonathan Romero (35-1, 19 KOs) in a 10-rounder. Nova, who fights out Albany, New York, holds wins over Avery Sparrow and William Encarnacion. In June 2022, he suffered his first defeat via fifth-round knockout against two-time Olympic gold medalist and current world champion Robeisy Ramirez. He bounced back in January with a 10-round decision win over Adam Lopez. Romero edged Alejandro Lopez by split decision in 2013 to capture the IBF junior featherweight world title. He is 12-0 since losing the title in his first defense to Kiko Martinez.

Dominican Olympian Rohan “El Rayo” Polanco (9-0, 5 KOs) steps up against Panamanian-born contender Cesar “Rainman” Francis (12-1, 7 KOs) in an eight-round junior welterweight fight. Spence is the unified WBC, WBA and IBF Welterweight World Champion, while Crawford holds the WBO 147-pound world championship.

The winner of this matchup of undefeated superstars will become the first undisputed welterweight world champion in the four-belt era and likely emerge as the sport’s No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter. Marblehead, MA (June 13, 2023) – Reyes Boxing Promotions is pleased to announce the signing of heavyweight contender Michael “The Bounty” Hunter to an exclusive promotional contract.

Originally from Van Nuys, CA but living and fighting out of Las Vegas, NV, Hunter won silver at the 2006 National Golden Gloves despite only having five amateur bouts. Hunter became a three-time US National Champion and won the 2011 National Golden Gloves title.

In 2012, he represented Team USA at the London Olympics but was eliminated by current unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.

Hunter turned pro in March 2013 and won his first 12 fights in impressive fashion. On April 8, 2017, he fought Olympic gold medalist and current pound for pound superstar Oleksander Usyk for the WBO cruiserweight title. Hunter got off to a good start but dropped a unanimous decision. 

Following the Usyk bout, Hunter moved up to heavyweight and scored impressive victories over Iago Kiladze (26-2), Aleksandr Utsinov (34-2), Sergey Kuzmin (15-0) and Mike Wilson (21-1), while fighting to an entertaining draw with former champion Alexander Povetkin.

The 34-year-old Hunter recently participated in Team Combat League, going 8-0 for the Las Vegas Hustle.

A second-generation pugilist, Hunter’s father Mike “The Bounty” Hunter was a talented heavyweight contender during the 1980’s and 1990’s.

NEW YORK (JUNE 13, 2023) – NEW YORK–Teofimo Lopez became a two-division world champion with an emphatic 12-round unanimous decision over Josh Taylor to win the WBO Junior Welterweight title before a Madison Square Garden Theater record crowd of 5,151.

“Teofimo’s win further cements his status as the true phenom of this era. His skill set, and ring IQ are unchallenged. He’s simply amazing,” said David McWater, President of Split-T Management.

The fight began at a fast pace with Taylor working the body. Lopez was able to land some “show me” right hands. Lopez started to foreshadow things to come by landing quick and pinpoint right hands that were able to stop Taylor in his tracks. That assault came in rounds three through five, with round four being a big frame for “The Takeover” as he rocked Taylor. The two fighters took turns over the next four-rounds.

Lopez was terrific over the next three rounds as he was dominant as hand speed proved to be too much. His right hand continuously found a home on the face of Taylor. In round 12, Lopez sealed the deal by hurting Taylor twice, with the latter being from a perfect right to the body that hurt Taylor.

Lopez, who was the undisputed lightweight champion, becomes a two-weight division champ by scores of 117-111 and 115-113 and is now 19-1. Taylor of Scotland is 19-1.

Las Vegas – UFC^® returns to the APEX with a high-stakes match in the middleweight division, as No. 7 ranked contender Sean Strickland takes on Abus Magomedov. In addition, we will see No. 12 lightweight Damir Ismagulov and No. 15 Grant Dawson square off in a pivotal 155-pound clash.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT^®: STRICKLAND vs. MAGOMEDOV will take place Saturday, July 1 at UFC APEX in Las Vegas. The entire card will be available on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and ESPN+ in English and Spanish, with the main card starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT and the prelims beginning at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT.

Strickland (26-5, fighting out of Corona, Calif.) steps into his fifth UFC main event as he looks to reinsert his name into the division’s Top 5 with a strong outing. The Octagon veteran holds victories over top contenders Nassourdine Imavov, Jack Hermansson, and Uriah Hall. Strickland now sets out with the intention of halting rising star Magomedov.

Magomedov (25-4-1, fighting out of Dusseldorf, Germany) aims on securing the biggest win of his career by defeating a Top 10 ranked opponent. Dangerous in all facets of MMA, Magomedov delivered a 20-second knockout of Dustin Stoltzfus in his UFC debut. He now looks to deliver a statement victory in his first UFC main event.

Top-ranked contender Ismagulov (24-2, fighting out of Orenburg, Russia by way of Almaty, Kazakhstan) intends on securing a strong win and position himself for a big second half of 2023. Ismagulov’s elite skills have led him to victories against the likes of Guram Kutateladze, Rafael Alves, and Thiago Moisés thus far, and he plans on sending a message to the division by stopping Dawson in impressive fashion.

Dawson (19-1-1, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla.) returns to action looking to secure his first victory of the year. A versatile competitor, he has delivered highlight reel finishes against formidable opponents such as Mark Madsen, Jared Gordon, and Leonardo Santos. A stiff test awaits Dubois as she faces South American champion Yanina ‘Panterita’ Lescano (13-2, 4 KO’s), who last year lost a controversial decision in Dubai when she challenged Estelle Mossely in her challenge for the IBO World Lightweight Championship.

With Dubois’ star on the rise – the undefeated young prodigy has scored five of her six wins inside the distance since turning professional last year – Lescano heads to London hoping to stop her momentum and steal her shine, while the ambitious Dubois wants a statement win which will add weight to her calls for world title challenges in the near future.

A literal monster of a title fight occupies the midpoint of the Sky Sports televised card as Aaron McKenna (16-0, 8 KO’s) faces undefeated Uisma ‘Monstro’ Lima (10-8 KO’s) for the WBC International Middleweight Championship, with Lima having an 80% finish rate and three KO wins from his last four outings.

Heated cruiserweight rivals Viddal Riley (8-0,5 KO’s) and Anees Taj are fighting a second instalment of their feud, with neither having been satisfied with the cut stoppage which made Riley the TKO winner of their January first encounter, while Issac Chamberlain – the #1 contender for the British Cruiserweight Championship – returns to the ring in the opening bout of the televised card. 

Super-lightweight prodigy Adam Azim, British boxing’s hottest prospect, had been due to headline this Friday’s event but has been forced to withdraw due to a severe infection in the dorsal hood of his left hand, which his team believe was acquired when Azim cut his knuckles in a training session several weeks ago.

Housing the tendons responsible for finger movement, the infected area has proven resistant to prescription antibiotics and is so painful that Azim could not use the hand in a test sparring session at the end of last week, prompting his team to withdraw him. Azim will be rescheduled for a BOXXER card later this year.

Los Angeles, CA (June 9, 2023) The Fastest Rising Star in Boxing, ‘King’ Callum Walsh, (7-0, 5 KOs), stayed perfect on Friday night with a fourth round knockout over World Title Challenger Carson Jones, (43-16-3, 31 KOs), in the main event of Tom Loeffler’s 360 Promotions’ Hollywood Fights Nightsat the Commerce Casino and broadcast globally on UFC FIGHT PASS.

Fighting in front of a star-studded sold-out crowd, the 22-year-old southpaw native of Cork, Ireland, looked exceptional from the outset working behind a piston-like jab while displaying his full arsenal of power shots against the crafty veteran. Bloodying and dropping Jones in the fourth round, Walsh earned the knockout as referee Eddie Hernandez called a halt to the contest at the end of the stanza. With the victory, Walsh earned the WBC Silver US Super Welterweight Title in the scheduled ten-round bout.

Said the Freddie Roach trained Walsh, “I’m throwing every punch with bad intentions. I knew I had him ready to go and took care of business. A good win against a very experienced fighter, I’m happy with my performance. I’m very happy winning this title but there’s much more to come.”

Highly touted welterweight Gor Yeritsyan, (15-0, 13 KOs), stopped Gustavo Vittori (28-15-1, 12 KO’s) the second round. Aggressive from the opening bell, Yeritsyan dropped Vittori twice in the second stanza as the fight was called off at the 2:15 mark.

Stefi Cohen, (4-1-1, 1KO), was victorious in a four round unanimous decision over Esli Cervantes, (1-4), in their flyweight battle. Cohen finished strong in the fourth round of their evenly matched fight. Scores were 39-37 on all three judge’s scorecards for Cohen.

Fighting in a four-round super welterweight clash, Son of UFC Legend Anderson Silva, Kalyl Silva, (2-0, 1 KO), won his second professional bout with a unanimous decision over Peter Gonzalez, (0-1). Scores for the dominant Silva were 40-34 on all three scorecards.

Fighting in a super lightweight bout, David Romero, (4-0-1, 1 KO), won a dominant six-round unanimous decision over Andres Figueroa, (9-6, 5 KOs). All three judges scored the bout 60-54.

In a super featherweight clash, Michael Biramontes, (7-1, 4 KOs), won a fast-paced six-round unanimous decision over Pablo Melgar, (6-3-1, 4 KOs). Scores for all three judges were 60-54.

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. (June 11, 2023) – Julien “Black Dragon” Baptiste turned in the best performance of his pro career last night, capturing the vacant United States Boxing Federation (USBF) Middleweight Championship, defeating Ryan Clark (2-4, 1 KO) by way of a convincing six-round unanimous decision.

Baptiste vs. Clark headlined “Fight Night at the Vets Club,” presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP), at Bridgewater Veterans Club in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Baptiste, of Woburn (MA), had worked in training camp on overcoming performance anxiety in the ring. It was apparent from the start that he had accomplished his goal. He came out firing in the opening round as Clark charged forward, setting the stage for an all-action match. Baptise took control in the second landing numerous left hooks and right crosses. A straight right dropped Clark in the second, but the gutsy New Hampshire fighter responded in the third, aggressively going punch-for-punch with his gifted opponent.

In the fourth round, Baptiste consistently beat a tiring yet still dangerous Clark to the punch, as the latter’s face showed visible signs of Baptiste’s onslaught. The two went toe-to-toe in the fifth to set up the sixth and final frame, in which neither fighter let up right to the final bell.

“I’m incredibly proud of Julien through all the adversity and heartaches he’s dealt with during his journey in and out of the ring,” GCP president Chris Traietti said. “He dug deep and pulled it off to keep his career going. Stay tuned for August!”

Celebrated amateur Arika Skoog (2-0-1, 2 KOs) was too much for Orlando lightweight Sara “Switch Kick” Click (1-5-1) to handle. Skoog patiently boxed and established command, trapping Click in the corner and an accumulation of punches resulted in a third-round stoppage.

Skoog, of Roxbury (MA), won a gold medal at the 2020 USA Boxing Elite National Championships in addition to being a 2020 USA Olympic Boxing Team alternate and multiple New England Golden Gloves champion.

Former New England Welterweight Champion Mike “Bad Man” Ohan, Jr. (18-2, 9 KOs), of Holbrook (MA), outclassed game Alaskan welterweight William Parra Smith (4-15-1, 3 KOs) by way of a one-sided unanimous decision. After a “feeling out” first round, Ohan started throwing his sharp counterpunches, up and down on Smith, and Ohan’s devastating boxy attack weakened his opponent. Ohan’s left hook to the body broke-down Smith, who took a knee in the sixth and faded after that moment.

“Ohan was as sharp as I’ve ever seen him,” Traietti noted. “He’s getting better each fight. He’s ready for the deep end of New England boxing and he’s going to do exactly that next.”

Lynn (MA) gravedigger James Perkins (12-0-1, 9 KOs) kept his unbeaten streak intact, knocking out Texas journeyman Larry “Slo Mo” Smith (13-54-2, 9 KOs) in the fourth round. The heavy-handed Perkins throws each punch with bad intentions, closing the show with a pair of knockdowns in the fourth. First, he caught Smith with a right to the temple, but “Slo Mo” was able to beat the count. He followed with a straight right, which landed right on the button, sending Smith to the canvas where he was counted out.

The opening bout only lasted one minute as Scituate heavyweight Kevin Nagle (2-0, 2 KOs), fighting out of Scituate (MA), knocked out Brazilian heavyweight Reinaldo Da Costa Souza (0-2). The 272-pound Nagle decked Souza with a crisp left hook and the end came soon after, when Nagle connected with left hook, right upper cut combination

The electrifying showdown between Aleem and Goodman will take place on Saturday, June 17 (Sunday, June 18 in Australia) at the esteemed Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia. This event, presented by Premier Boxing Champions, will be broadcast live on SHOWTIME, with the SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL telecast beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.

Jamaine Ortiz (16-1-1, 8 KOs) was looking to put the lightweight division on notice tomorrow night at Madison Square Garden’s Theater on the undercard of the highly anticipated bout between Josh Taylor and Teofimo Lopez.

Unfortunately for fight fans, “The Technician” was forced to withdraw from his lightweight bout against Humberto Galindo due to an injury suffered during training camp that impacted his ability to make weight.

“I injured my back a few weeks ago and it interrupted my training,” explained the disappointed Worcester native. “For 3 weeks, I had severe back spasms and couldn’t train properly. I tried to push my body to the limit as soon as I felt better, but I hit a wall and the last few pounds just wouldn’t come off. I work with a dietician and follow a strict systematic plan to make weight, but I couldn’t follow it properly this time because of the amount of weight I had to lose after the injury.”

The 27-year-old hopes to return to the ring as soon as possible and has a message for the fans who traveled to New York to see him perform on Saturday.

“My team is working on a date in August,” stated Ortiz, who is co-promoted by CES Boxing and Top Rank. “My sincerest apologies to my opponent, my promoters CES and Top Rank, Jimmy Burchfield and everyone who made their way to New York City to see me fight. I tried my best to make weight despite the interruption, but I couldn’t make it safely.”

Ortiz emphasized that he will remain at lightweight as he is confident that he can make the limit given a normal training camp. Stay tuned for a new date over the next few weeks.

Newcastle Lightweight amateur standout Cameron Vuong has signed a long-term promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and will make his anticipated professional debut later this year. 

Part of the thriving Birtley Boxing Club in the North East of England, 20-year-old Cameron trains under the watchful eye of head trainer Graeme Rutherford alongside the likes of Cyrus Pattinson, Mark Dickinson and Calum French. 

Cameron won the Senior Elite ABA Title at Lightweight in April and then the Tri-Nation Title the following month before teaming up with Sam Jones earlier this month, who will guide his career alongside Matchroom. 

“It was a boyhood dream of mine to sign with the world’s biggest and most active boxing promoter Eddie Hearn,” said Vuong. “With the colossal Matchroom Boxing and DAZN platform backing me I believe I can reach the very top of this sport. I know I can become World Champion and I don’t want to hang about either. There are lots of young World Champions around at the moment and I truly believe that I will be joining them as a World Champion very soon. This is going to be a very special journey and I can’t wait to make my professional debut and get things underway. This marks the second straight year SHOBOX will be a part of the Hall of Fame Induction Weekend festivities with the tripleheader featuring six light heavyweights who have never tasted defeat. In the co-feature, college graduate Richard Vansiclen (13-0-1, 6 KOs) from Seattle, Wash., returns to SHOBOX to take on fellow unbeaten and hard-hitting Colombian Juan Carrillo (10-0, 8 KOs). “I don’t feel any pressure. I’m very focused. I’m here to do my job and I will take care of business tomorrow night. He is a little taller than me, but I don’t think that’ll be an issue for me.

“I fought a lefty in my last fight [Marcelo Ruben Molina]. I did a lot of sparring with Juan Carrillo, who’s on this card.

RICHARD VANSICLEN

“I’m from Seattle, but living in San Diego now, which has been better for my training than being in Seattle. I’ve been in there with David Benavidez, and he’s actually helped boxing in that area with his gym.

“My conditioning is the biggest thing I’ve been working on. I’m faster and I’m stronger now and you will definitely see that in this fight.

“I knew who Roy Jones was but I didn’t know that much about pro boxing when I was first introduced to it at age 19 and in college.

“I had a tough upbringing and I never knew my father. We were in and out of homeless shelters and I owe it all to my mom Mary for getting me to where I am today. Someday when I’m all done and they are doing my 30 for 30 it will all go back to mom. After all the stuff she went through.

“I’ve chosen boxing as what I want to do, and I love it. I’ve been fighting my entire life.

“We’ve seen Juan Carrillo. He has some skills and there are a lot of things we can do to exploit what he does, especially in our movement and our athleticism. We are ready for anything he throws at us.

JUAN CARRILLO

“I’ve been waiting my entire life for this. I’m very, very confident with my preparation and my conditioning. To go 10 rounds is not going to be a problem for me.

“This is the most difficult fight in my career, for sure. I’m a very hungry fighter and I’m confident at the end of the night it will be my hand that is raised in victory.

“My opponent is a talented fighter. I know he can fight, and I know he’s coming in hungry. But the person who’s going to be victorious is the one who is hungrier, and that’s me. You’re going to be impressed when I knock this kid out.

“I was born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, but since my last fight in February I’ve been training in Miami with Chino Perez at the 5^th Street Gym. Everyone knows it as the Muhammad Ali gym. It’s pretty cool. You see the pictures hanging on the wall and it’s hard not to just feel like a champion.”

“It’s amazing that our fight got elevated to the SHOBOX portion of the night and is a huge opportunity for me and my team coming all the way from Australia.

“It’s been a dream of mine for years to finally get this chance.

“I train in my backyard shed at my home. I’ve had about four different coaches over the years, and the last five or six years my father has been coaching me. We’ve had a small gym set up for the last seven years, but the last year, we’ve had a proper set up with a ring.

“I was in camp as a sparring partner with Artur Beterbiev before his last fight. It made me very hungry for what I really want. I was in Montréal for three weeks. I did a lot of rounds with him, a lot of very good rounds – maybe 40, or something like that. I loved it! I loved working with him and his team. I was very grateful to get that opportunity.

“I feel like I’m an all-rounder. I can mix it up and adapt and change when I need to change. If things aren’t going well in the ring, I can get back to the corner and we’ll change it up a little bit and do what I need to do to win.
