Amir Khan trolls rivals in new game ‘Khanage’ out May 2nd

Amir Khan

LONDON (29 April) – Ahead of the biggest fight of his career, Amir Khan is putting his rivals to task on a whole different platform in new mobile game app Khanage, available on iOS and Android from 2 May.

The boxing arcade app, which challenges players to take Khan to the top of boxing, is inspired by the fighter’s own lofty ambitions to top the sport’s coveted pound for pound list, and features a few antagonists not too dissimilar to his real life rivals.

The game follows ‘King’ Khan on his quest to be crowned the greatest fighter in the universe and dethrone current champions Dan Ello, Barry Mackyowl and Dollar Bills Jr. One a Mexican warrior with flame red hair, the other dubbed the Beast form the East and the last a flash American with lots of money.

In a three-part story trailer for the game, King Khan can be seen confronting each rival before they get the spooks and run off, leaving the brave and somewhat reluctant Dan Ello to take the fight.

These champions are so hell bent on avoiding Khan in the game, they send out evil droids to stop him in his tracks. How the story ends though is down to the fast hands of the player as the game lets you take up the fight as Amir Khan and swipe your way through legions of killer robots to dethrone the phoney kings of the sport and collect all the Title Belts.

“Going into the biggest fight of my life I wanted to give fans another way to connect with me and my story. I think everyone knows my desire to prove I belong at the top of boxing in the biggest fights, and Khanage is a fun way of expressing that,” said Khan.

“I am surprised how realistic it is for a mobile gaming app – Digital Shoguns have done an incredible job with the gameplay and graphics. I’ve played it a few times now whilst in camp on the way to the gym, it is very addictive and quite motivating. It’s great fun for all ages and I think everybody is going to love it. Download it for free to join the ride and lets bring these belts back home!”

Ortizr_0990_WMRZ
CARSON, CALIF. (April 28, 2016) – As we near the highly anticipated rematch between former world champions “Vicious” Victor Ortiz and Andre “The Beast” Berto, fighters competing on this Saturday’s Premier Boxing Champions on FOX & FOX Deportes card participated in a final press conference before they enter the ring at StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

Televised coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and features an explosive battle between light heavyweight sluggers Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez and Thomas “Top Dog” Williams Jr. plus unbeaten featherweight Jorge Lara taking on former multiple division world champion Fernando “Cucholito” Montiel.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are priced at $209, $105, $53, and $27, plus applicable taxes, fees and service charges, are on sale now and are available for purchase online at AXS.com.

Prior to the start of televised fights, an Official Fan Fest will be held for ticket holders outside of StubHub Center. The events start at 2:30 p.m. PT and features a Corona Beer Garden, food trucks, music from the band Metalachi and autograph signings with popular fighters such as Leo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares, Shawn Porter and more.

Also in attendance Thursday were heavyweights Gerald “El Gallo Negro” Washington and “Fast” Eddie Chambers who will compete in a 10-round attraction on the undercard.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday from Whiskey Red’s in Marina Del Rey:

VICTOR ORTIZ

“I’m an easy-going guy but this is boxing. He might hate me. I respect him, but I’m coming to take him down and out.

“I know what I’m here for and that’s a victory. As much talking as he’s done, it was a different guy that showed up today.

“This is a totally different fight than five years ago. We’re different people. I’m a different guy and so is he.

“Saturday is right around the corner and I’m here. I see loss in his eyes. I’m ready. 100 percent.

“This is a whole new chapter in my saga. I feel like this is my time once again. I’ve only fought in my prime twice. I did a lot of damage at young age. I feel I’m in my prime now. The sky is the limit.

“I feel very at peace being back in Ventura to train. We’re going to capture another world title. We went to training camp for that purpose. My mind is set on being one of the greatest.”

ANDRE BERTO

“We had an amazing camp. The situation five years ago, there’s no reason to keep speaking on that. I’m a better man today. I put in the work for this one.

“I’m looking forward to this. Everybody knows me and knows how I get down. I’ll do my talking in the ring.

“Thanks to Victor for taking this fight. All the personal stuff aside, we have to get in the ring and do what we have to do. It’s been five years coming and now we’re here.

“The stuff Victor said on the stage and his body language. I believe he knows he is going to be in there with a different type of animal this time.

“I think he is already defeated. He sees how focused I am. If he has been hearing anything from camp, he knows I’m ready to go.

“He didn’t believe anything he said on the stage. Looking at him face to face, he was trying to tell jokes. I think that he knows that he is going to be in there with a different Andre Berto.”

EDWIN RODRIGUEZ

“My opponent seems to be really confident and it’s my job on Saturday to take that away. We’ve worked hard and we’re ready.

“I’m happy to be here and I’m really excited about this card. I remember watching this fight in Connecticut and I’m thrilled to be involved in part two.”

THOMAS WILLIAMS JR.

“I’m just ready to go. This fight was scheduled for March 12, but we always stayed in the gym. We worked smart, not just hard, but smart.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to fight on this platform. This is going to be a can’t miss fight. Get there and get there early. Don’t blink.”

JORGE LARA

“I’m proud to be here. We’re ready for a great fight on Saturday night. I want everyone to see how much hard work I’ve put into this fight.

“It means a lot to me to be able to collide with a great champion like Fernando Montiel.”

FERNANDO MONTIEL

“It means a lot to be a part of a dynamic card that his highlighted by this great rematch between Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto.

“It’s going to be a great night of fights. I’ve had a lot of ups-and-downs throughout my life but I’ve always worked hard. I’m just excited to get in the ring on Saturday night.

“I am a five-time world champion and I’ve been fighting for 20 years but I know on Saturday night that I’m going to have one of the best nights of my career.”

GERALD WASHINGTON

“It’s an honor to be here and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to fight someone like Eddie Chambers. He has so much experience and class.

“It means a lot to me to come from a little town called Vallejo and to make it all way up here to fighting at StubHub Center.

“I’m looking to take advantage on Saturday night and step forward in my career. We’ve been working hard and putting things together

“I’m excited for everyone to see the new and improved Gerald Washington.”

EDDIE CHAMBERS

“I want to thank my team for getting behind me and bringing me out there. I’m thankful to Gerald for taking this fight. Not everyone would take this fight.

“This is my chance to get back in the good graces and get back to the top level of this sport.

“You should show up early so you can see this one, it’s going to be a great fight.”

Arif Magomedov
LAS VEGAS (April 28, 2016) – Fresh off of its wildly successful inaugural event, “Knockout Night at the D” returns Saturday night, May 21, with the second event of its 2016 series, as undefeated middleweight Arif “The Predator” Magomedov takes on upset-minded Andrew “Hurricane” Hernandez in the 10-round main event, airing (8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. ET) live on CBS Sports Network from under the neon lights at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC) outdoor venue.

“Both Roy and I were pleasantly surprised at the outcome from our April card,” commented Keith Veltre, CEO / Founder of Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions. “The support that Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions received from the boxing community superseded our expectations. Magomedov (17-0, 10 KOs), who is promoted by Main Events, is rated among the top 15 middleweights by the four major sanctioning bodies: WBC #2, WBO #3, WBA #5 and IBF #14. The gifted Russian (pictured to right) captured his NABO title belt 10 months ago, winning a 10-round unanimous decision against previously undefeated Derrick Webster (19-0). Last December in his most recent action, Magomedov (pictured to right) stopped Jonathan Tavira in the seventh round.

Magomedov’s expansive display-case presently holds the NABO. WBO Youth, WBO Asia Pacific, WBA Inter-Continental, WBA Fedelatin, UBO Inter-Continental and Russian middleweight title belts.

The 30-year-old Hernandez (pictured to left), also known as “The Pride of Phoenix,” has pulled off his fair share of upsets. In 2015, Hernandez stopped 17-1 Jeff Page, Jr., whose only other loss was to 2-time Russian Olympian and current world light heavyweight contender Artur Beterbiev, in the 10th round of their UBF Inter-continental super middleweight title fight. Hernandez also upset 12-0 Jerry Odum last year at Madison Square Garden Theater.

In his last fight this past March, Hernandez won in Tacoma when veteran Dionisio Miranda (22-14-2) was unable to answer the bell for the 8th round.

In the 8-round co-feature, super middleweight John “The Phenom” Vera (12-0, 8 KOs), of Fort Worth, Texas, puts his unbeaten record and NABA-USA title belt on the line against Phoenix’ popular Joey “Boxer” Ruelas (10-1-1, 4 KOs).

Seventeen-year-old lightweight sensation Devin “The Dream” Haney (5-0, 3 KOs), of Las Vegas, is scheduled to open the televised portion of the card in a 4-round bout versus an opponent to be determined. A 7-time national amateur champion, Haney is recognized as one of the top teenage boxing prospects in the world.

Unbeaten Virginian Jerren “Hardknocks” Cochran (11-0-1, 4 KOs) takes on former WBC Youth International titlist, Dallas southpaw Tony Lopez (10-1, 3 KOs), in a 6-round featherweight match serving as a television “swing bout.”

Also scheduled to fight on the undercard in 4-round matches, versus opponents to be determined, are two of Las Vegas’ most promising prospects,- junior lightweight Randy Moreno (2-0, 1 KO), and welterweight Jeremy “J-Flash” Nichols (3-0, 2 KOs).

STATEMENT FROM GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS

Francisco Vargas
LOS ANGELES (April 28, 2016) – Golden Boy Promotions has issued the following statement with regard to WBC Super Featherweight World Champion Francisco “El Bandido” Vargas:

“As part of a voluntary testing program that Francisco Vargas requested ahead of his June 4 fight, he tested positive for clenbuterol.

“Francisco believes he tested positive due to ingesting contaminated meat in Mexico where clenbuterol is commonly used by ranchers in livestock feed. The Associated Press reported this week that this practice may impact athletes throughout the country ahead of the 2016 Olympics.

“Francisco has, is and will always be a clean fighter. That is why he insisted on this voluntary testing program ahead of the first defense of his WBC championship.

“He previously tested clean as part of this same voluntary testing regiment and in all of his previous fights.

“He will immediately leave Mexico to finish his training camp in the US in order to avoid any possible repeat of this situation and is fully cooperating with the California State Athletic Commission to submit to all required testing ahead of his June 4 title defense.”

Badou Jack, Lucian Bute, James DeGale & Rogelio Medina Final Press Conference Quotes

Lucian Bute
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 28, 2016) – Four of the top super middleweights in the world shared a stage Thursday afternoon as Badou Jack, Lucian Bute, James DeGale and Rogelio Medina participated in the final press conference for their fights this Saturday, April 30 on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING from the DC Armory in Wash28ington, D.C.

Televised coverage begins at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT live on SHOWTIMEâ and features the WBC champion Jack battling the former champion Bute, while the IBF titleholder DeGale takes on the top rated contender Medina. The winners of these fights have agreed to meet in a world title unification later this year.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Interbox in
association with Matchroom Boxing, are priced at $200, $100, $50 and $25, and are on sale now. To purchase tickets visit www.ticketmaster.com, Ticketmaster locations, or call (800) 745-3000.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday:

BADOU JACK

“Both of us can punch, both of us can box. Anything can happen inside of that ring. I’m always ready to go 12 rounds. Everyone knows that I’m always in shape.

“Anything can happen, but I want to fight James DeGale. First I have to take care of business with Lucian Bute. Both of us are in our primes. We’re young and confident and it would be a great fight.

“I have to take care of this former champion. He’s a really good fighter. Some people say it’s a 50-50 fight so I have to take this very seriously.

“I’m still training and preparing for this fight like I’m the challenger. That’s how I prepare for every fight and this is no different.

“A lot of people wrote me off and I came back stronger. I love when people doubt me. I come back stronger and show people I’m a world class fighter.

“I’ve always believed in myself. I’m mentally strong and I work hard. I had a setback but it just made me hungrier and it made me a better fighter.”

LUCIAN BUTE

“I’m thankful for this big opportunity to fight for the WBC title. My training camp was very good. I feel stronger. It’s two days until the big stage.

“I worked very hard for this opportunity. To be a two-time champion is a dream. On Saturday night you will see a new champion.

“I feel great. The pressure is not on my shoulders now. I’m not the champion, I’m the outsider. Badou is the champion and I think the pressure is on him. I came to Washington D.C. to perform, give the fans a good show Saturday night and the chance to become a champion for the second time

“I put on a good show against DeGale and that’s what led to this shot. I’m very blessed to be in this fight for a world title.

“Badou is a good fighter. He has a good background in amateur boxing, he’s a world champion, but he has nothing special. He does everything good but not exceptionally. I have more experience, more speed and I’m a southpaw. I think the advantage is on my side.

“I never considered retiring but there were three years where I had some physical and psychological obstacles. Now I’m back to being in big fights and I’m looking forward to taking Badou Jack’s belt.

“This is going to be a spectacular fight. I want to look good in there and leave no doubt. I’m more aggressive than I ever have been and that will make it a great fight. I’m here to stop Badou Jack.”

JAMES DEGALE

“Fight time is here. I’m feeling good and feeling fresh.

“Porky Medina is a good fighter. But there are levels to pro boxing and I am levels above him.

“Saturday night I’m going to show you a real performance. My last two fights have gone the distance, but this time it won’t.

“I’m the best 168-pounder out there. I’m here to prove that. There is no one out there that can test me. There are big fights out there and good guys, but I believe I’m the best.

“I like this tournament style. It’s the best boxing the best. It should always be like this.

“I’m starting to build a massive fan base back home and I haven’t even boxed at home as a world champion. Me and Badou Jack would be a massive fight in the UK with two titles on the line.

“I’ve got everything covered with my game plan, trust me. I’ve gone extremely hard in the gym. We’ve watched tapes of him and I’m feeling good.

“This fight I need to make a statement. On my last two fights, I’ve gone the distance and they’ve been against top quality elite fighters. This time – no disrespect to Porky Medina – a good fighter in his own right but he shouldn’t last the distance with me so I look forward to a good performance.

“Good luck to both men, but I’m coming for the winner of Jack vs. Bute. I want to unify the division.”

ROGELIO MEDINA

“I’m the youngest fighter on this stage. I’m also the hungriest fighter. This is the biggest opportunity of my career.

“I’m here to give it my all and take the most of this opportunity on Saturday night. My dream is to be a world champion and it is right in front of me.

“I feel very excited. I’m ready to go because of the long layoff. It has been a while but I have been in the gym. I’ve been training for many months and even though I haven’t had a fight, I have been training.

“I think that DeGale has a lot of good qualities as a fighter and I think that the fight is going to be very intense because I’ve been training hard for it. I’ve been training to put pressure on him and to make it an intense fight and try and knock him out.

“I’ve noticed that he’s a quick fighter, he’s fast. He’s got good technique but I also see that he sometimes likes to stand and trade and I hope that he decides to stand and trade with me so we can give the fans a good fight.

“A win would be the biggest moment of my career. It would have a lot of significance. Historically in Mexico I would become only the second super middleweight champion, which would be very important to boxing and myself.”

LAS VEGAS (April 28, 2016) – World Series of Fighting (www.WSOF.com) announced today that it has signed heavyweight knockout artists Shawn Jordan (18-7) and Lorenzo “The Dream Killer” Hood (9-3) to exclusive, multi-fight agreements.

Hood of Chicago, Ill. has been tabbed to make his promotional debut against an opponent to be announced soon, at the WSOF31: Ivanov vs. Copeland world heavyweight championship event at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. on Friday, June 17, live on NBCSN at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

“We are thrilled to welcome Shawn Jordan and Lorenzo Hood to our ever-growing roster of world-class athletes, and look forward to seeing both of them compete in our heavyweight division soon,” said World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo.

Fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M., the 6-foot, 30-year-old Jordan is coming off a 4-year, 10 fight stint with the UFC, during which he compiled an overall record of 6-4, notching all of his wins, including a vicious, first round (:59) decimation of Pat “HD” Barry on June 15, 2013, by way of (T)KO.

A two-time veteran of the now-defunct Strikeforce, and a four-time veteran of Bellator action, Jordan has earned 14 of his 18 career victories by way of (T)KO, and another 3 via submission.

Andre Dirrell, Blake Caparello, Anthony Dirrell, Caleb Truax, Jonathan Guzman & Daniel Rosas Media Roundtable Quotes

Andre Dirrell (640x480)
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (April 28, 2016) – With just two days until they enter the ring, Premier Boxing Champions on Spike fighters participated in media roundtables Wednesday in Atlantic City and discussed their respective Friday, April 29 showdowns taking place at Taj Mahal Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City.

The card is headlined by the return of the Dirrell brothers as Olympic Bronze medalist Andre “The Resurrected” Dirrell battles Australia’s Blake Caparello and former world champion Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell takes on Minnesota’s Caleb “Golden” Truax. Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT with knockout artist Jonathan Guzman against Mexico’s Daniel Rosas in a 122-pound eliminator.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by King’s Promotions, are priced at $100, $75 and $50, are available at all Ticketmaster outlets and are on sale now.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday:

ANDRE DIRRELL

“I can tell that Caparello is coming from Australia to prove a point. He’s hungry for a victory and It’s my job to make sure he doesn’t get that. I take this as a championship fight.

“The blessing in having a layoff is that my body is in great shape. I feel 25-years-old not 32.

“I don’t see myself as the smaller man. I suppose he can take a few shots but I am going to display my skill and show that it will lead to a world championship.

“I feel I am at the championship level. I’ll have an eye on the 168-pound title fights Saturday. I’m looking to get that championship as soon as I can. I am ready and I want DeGale. I don’t care if it’s in his hometown, backyard, basement, living room or kitchen. I want to make sure that fight happens.

“I worked really hard and I can’t wait to get in the ring on Friday night.”

BLAKE CAPARELLO

“It’s good to be back in Atlantic City. I took a lot from my fight against Sergey Kovalev. Being in the ring with him taught me a lot about ring composure. This is my Atlantic City redemption.

“Dirrell is a very difference fighter. Andre is very quick and slick. I can’t afford to make minor mistakes. I didn’t make the 20-hour flight for a loss. I was small for 175 pounds which made the move to 168 very comfortable.

“The plan is to win and fight one of the champions but fighting Andre is a world title for me.

“People don’t think that I can punch, but I’m coming to win and put on a show. I’m looking to bring a victory back to Australia.”

ANTHONY DIRRELL

“It means a lot to share this card with my brother. We share everything. He is my big brother and this is a great moment for both of us.

“I will be watching the super middleweight title fights Saturday night, but I am not looking past Caleb Truax.

“I know Truax has fought some good competition in Daniel Jacobs and Jermain Taylor. I have my hands full but I prepared to have my hand lifted in Victory.

“I think the loss made me a better fighter because I know what it takes to get there. I am just looking for the next shot. When I get it, I’m going to capitalize and not let the title go.

“I’m going to stick to my game plan and try to get Truax out of there. Then I can start thinking about Badou Jack. I definitely want a rematch.”

CALEB TRUAX

“I have to make the most of this opportunity. This is a huge fight for me. I can get another shot at a world title with a win.

“Dirrell is a good fighter. I’ve seen a lot of his fights and we’ve fought on the same card before. You have to respect that he is a former world champion.

“I have to draw from all the experiences I’ve had in my career. I have to use my experience and be on top of my game.

“Most of my fights have been around super middleweight. I don’t have to struggle to make weight as much and I couldn’t turn down this opportunity.”

JONATHAN GUZMAN

“Rosas is a typical Mexican fighter who will come forward and be in great condition. I’m ready for him and I feel I know him well.

“I want a world title and we’re happy that if we get this win we can compete for a belt next time out.

“We are excited to put on a great show Friday night. I will break him in half.”

DANIEL ROSAS

“We know our opponent is very good, but we trained 100 percent to get the victory.

“We’ve been waiting and putting in the work. If the knockout comes, it comes.

“I know this is an elimination bout. We came to win and we’re prepared for anything that comes. I’m ready to be a world champion.”

Ramazan Emeev vs. Alexander Shlemenko M-1 Global Grand Prix Middleweight Championship

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (April 28, 2016) – M-1 Global has announced a blockbuster M-1 Challenge 68 event as Ramazan Emeev and Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko battle in the M-1 Global Grand Prix Middleweight Championship, while M-1 Challenge heavyweight champion Alexander “Drago” Volkov makes his first title defense against Attila “Pumuklo” Vegh, Thursday night, June 16, at Yubileyny Sports Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia.

M-1 Challenge 68 will be streamed live from St. Petersburg in high definition on www.M1Global.TV. Viewers will be able to watch the preliminary fights and main card by logging on to register at www.M1Global.TV. Fans may watch all of the action on their computers, as well as on Android and Apple smart phones and tablets.

Emeev (14-3-0, M-1: 8-1-0), fighting out of Russia by way of Dagestan, is the reigning M-1 Challenge middleweight champion, although his title belt will not be at stake against Shlemenko. The 28-year-old Emeev, who was the 2015 M-1 Global Fighter of the Year, is a two-time M-1 Challenge middleweight champion. He originally captured the coveted crown in 2012, taking a decision from Mario Miranda for the vacant title. In his first title defense, Emeev lost to Vyacheslav Vasilevsky, who stopped the defending champion via punches in the fourth round.

In their much anticipated rematch April 10, 2015, Emeev recaptured the title from Vasilevsky, choking the defending champion into an opening-round submission. Last December, Emeev successfully defended his title when Luigi Fiorvanti retired after four rounds. Earlier this month at M-1 Challenge 65, Emeev defeated Maiquel Falcao in the M-1 Grand Prix semifinals, by way of a first-round submission (choke – see picture below), to qualify for the final versus Shlemenko.

The 31-year-old Shlemenko (52-9-0, M-1: 3-0-0) is a three-time Bellator champion from Omsk, Russia. He returned to M-1 Global competition in February, taking a decision from Vasilevsky (see picture below) at M-1 Challenge 64. The Siberian-born Shlemenko hadn’t competed in M-1 Global since 2005.

Volkov (25-6-0, M-1: 9-3-0), 27, also fought in Bellator for three years, 2012 to 2015, returning to M-1 Global action this past February for the first time in 5 ½ years. The popular fighter from Moscow signed a promotional contract with M-1 Global, fighting Denis Smoldaraev Feb. 19, 2016 (see picture below) at M-1 Challenge 64 for the vacant M-1 Challenge heavyweight championship. Volkov emerged victorious, using a choke in the third round to win with the Submission of the Night.

Vegh (29-6-2, M-1: 0-0-0), will make his M-1 Global debut versus Volkov in their M-1 Challenge title fight. Fighting out of Slovakia by way of his native Czechoslovakia, Vegh (pictured below) is a former Bellator light heavyweight champion who is moving up one weight class to challenge Volkov.

Tix to Martinez v Lomachenko / Verdejo & Zou U.S. Debut Go On Sale Today

martinez_jumprope
NEW YORK (April 28, 2016) — You better believe Saturday night’s alright for fighting, especially in New York on Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend!

Three-time world champion ROMAN “Rocky” MARTINEZ and World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight world champion VASYL LOMACHENKO will go mano a mano for Martinez’s WBO junior lightweight world title and the boxing gem of Puerto Rico, FELIX “El Diamante” VERDEJO, will risk his WBO Latino lightweight crown, undefeated record and No. 2 world rating against JUAN JOSE MARTINEZ in the co-main event of a championship doubleheader Saturday, June 11 — one day before the famed Puerto Rican Day Parade — at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The two bouts, scheduled for 12 and 10 rounds, respectively, will be televised live on HBO beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. The non-televised undercard will feature the U.S. debut of two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time World Amateur Champion ZOU SHIMING from The Peoples Republic of China in a 10-round flyweight bout.

The five gladiators boast a combined record of 87-6-3 (53 KOs) — a winning percentage of 91% with over 60% of their victories coming by way of knockout.

Promoted by Top Rank®, in association with Puerto Rican Best Boxing, Diamante Promotions, SECA and Madison Square Garden, tickets to the Martinez vs. Lomachenko / Verdejo vs. Martinez championship doubleheader will go on sale Today! Thursday, April 28, at Noon ET. Priced at $300, $200, $100, $50 and $35, tickets can be purchased at the Madison Square Garden Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster charge by phone (866-858-0008), and online at www.ticketmaster.com and www.thegarden.com.

“I feel very happy returning to New York to fight, and even more on a special date like the Puerto Rican Day Parade. I know that a lot of Puerto Ricans will be there and I’ll be ready, as always, to give it my all,” said Martinez. “About Lomachenko I can say that he is a boxer with a lot of accomplishments as an amateur and even though he became champion in just a few professional fights, it isn’t the same in amateur as in professional boxing and we are working hard to take the victory on June 11.”

“Thank you to Top Rank! Thank you to my manager, Egis Klimas!. And thank you to HBO for believing that I can headline its telecast in the main event of the evening,” said Lomachenko. “It is a big opportunity for me. It is a chance to set a new record by becoming a two-division world champion in the shortest period — my seventh professional fight — a record that currently stands at eight fights. On June 11, at Madison Square Garden, I’m going to do my best to reach a new career pinnacle.”

“I would like to thank our promoter Top Rank for making this fight against Rocky Martinez a reality,” said Egis Klimas, Lomachenko’s manager. “We are also very thankful to HBO for approving this fight as its main event of their telecast. And a big thanks to the WBO for sanctioning this battle between two great champions.. For our team it is a big honor to be headlining at Madison Square Garden on June 11th and putting on a good show for the fans. I have no doubts that Vasyl will be in great shape for his debut in the 130-pound weight class.”

“I’m more motivated than ever for this fight on HBO and performing in front of my people in New York,” said Verdejo. “I recognize that my focus for my last couple of fights hasn’t been at its best. I feel that my last performances haven’t been close to what has been expected of me and that has motivated me to show my supporters that the Felix Verdejo they have been rooting for will be at The Garden on June 11 and for a very long time after.”

“This is the first time in boxing history which two fighters on this card each won two Olympic gold medals,” said Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum. “Vasyl Lomachenko and Zou Shiming accomplished iconic feats in the sport of boxing and Felix Verdejo himself is a former Olympian and one of the top amateur boxers.”

“On Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend in New York, Rocky Martinez fights to defend his 130-lb crown and his heritage, while Vasyl Lomachenko moves up in weight campaigning for a second world title in a continued quest to have his professional career mirror the glory of his unrivaled amateur virtuosity,” says Peter Nelson, Executive Vice President, HBO Sports. “The high stakes are well deserving of one of boxing’s most elite stages: Theater at Madison Square Garden.”

Martinez (29-2-3, 17 KOs), from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, is a three-time WBO junior lightweight world champion. He won his first world title on March 14, 2009, knocking out defending champion Nicky Cook in the fourth round in Manchester, England. He successfully defended that title twice during his 19-month reign, knocking out Feider Viloria and Gonzalo Munguia before losing a 12-round decision to Ricky Burns on September 4, 2010. Martinez’s second reign as world champion began on September 15, 2012, winning the vacant title via a split decision over top contender Miguel Beltran, Jr. Martinez successfully defended his title twice during his 15-month reign, scoring a split decision victory over Diego Magdaleno and a draw against Juan Carlos Burgos before being dethroned by undefeated former WBO featherweight champion Mikey Garcia on November 9, 2013. Martinez’s current world title reign began on April 11, 2015 when he defeated defending champion Orlando Salido via a 12-round decision. In their rematch, on September 12, Martinez retained his title by virtue of a draw. Both fights were worthy of Fights of the Year consideration.

The greatest amateur boxer of his era and arguably of all time, two-time Ukrainian Olympic gold medalist Lomachenko (5-1, 3 KOs), of Odessa, captured the vacant WBO featherweight title on June 21, 2014, winning a scintillating majority decision over the previously unbeaten Gary Russell Jr. It was Lomachenko’s third professional bout, tying him with Thailand’s Saensak Muangsurin for fewest fights to win a world title. Muangsurin won a junior welterweight title in 1975, also in his third professional fight. Russell, a former U.S. Olympian and current World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight world champion, was totally blitzed by Lomachenko, battered around the ring throughout the fight. From the outset of his professional career, Lomachenko made it known that he was ready for the best in his division. He made his professional debut in 2013 knocking out the WBO’s No. 7-rated featherweight contender Jose Luis Ramirez (24-2-2, 15 KOs) in the fourth round of a bout that was scheduled for 10. Less than five months later, on March 1, 2014, in his second professional bout, he challenged WBO featherweight champion Orlando Salido, losing a split decision to the heavier defending champion whose title had been stripped because he could not make the weight limit. Since winning the world title, Lomachenko has successfully defended it three times, winning a 12-round unanimous decision on November 23, 2014, against No. 1 contender Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo (51-1, 33 KOs), a ninth-round knockout of Gamalier Rodriguez (25-2-3, 17 KOs) on the undercard of the May 2, 2015 Floyd Mayweather – Manny Pacquiao extravaganza and a 10th-round knockout of Top-10 contender Romulo Koasicha (24-4, 14 KOs), on the undercard of the November 7, 2015 Timothy Bradley – Brandon Rios world welterweight championship . Lomachenko first gained international renown by winning gold medals in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Games as a featherweight and a lightweight, respectively.

Verdejo (21-0, 14 KOs), from San Juan, Puerto Rico, who earned “Prospect of the Year” honors in 2014 and 2015, began this year as a bona fide world title contender. He returns to the ring having won eight of his last 12 fights inside the distance, including his first and last fights of 2015 — a fifth-round knockout of Marco Lopez, on April 25, for the vacant WBO Latino lightweight title and a second-round pasting of Josenilson Dos Santos on December 11, which was Verdejo’s second defense of the title. In between those two fights, Verdejo successfully defended his title on June 13 at Madison Square Garden during Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend, winning a 10-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated contender Ivan Najera of San Antonio, TX. This year he has scored dominant 10-round unanimous decision victories over William Silva on February 27 at The Garden and Jose Rodriguez on April 16 in San Juan. Already world-rated No. 2 by the WBO and the World Boxing Association (WBA), and No. 6 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF), Verdejo, 22, continues to develop into a major gate attraction, producing standing room only crowds every time he fights. A former amateur standout who represented Puerto Rico in the 2012 Olympics, Verdejo has been mentored by Puerto Rican boxing icon and Hall of Fame inductee Felix Trinidad.

Martinez (25-2, 17 KOs), of Mexico City, Mexico, captured the ABMH (Hispanic World Boxing Association) junior lightweight title in 2014 via a 12-round unanimous decision over Carlos Jimenez. Since moving up to the lightweight division he has gone undefeated and enters this fight riding a two-year six-bout winning streak.

Zou (7-1, 2 KOs), from Guizhou, China, and trained by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, returns to the ring fresh from his most impressive professional victory — an eighth-round knockout of undefeated contender Natan Santana Coutinho on January 30, in Shanghai. This will mark the first time the newly-minted two-time WBO International flyweight champion has ever fought outside of China. Zou’s professional career highlights include a 12-round decision loss t to International Boxing Federation (IBF) flyweight champion world champion Amnat Ruenroeng in 2015 and a 12-round unanimous decision victory over undefeated No. 3 contender Kwanpichit Onesongchaigym in a world flyweight title elimination bout. Their fight was the co-main event to the Manny Pacquiao – Chris Algieri world welterweight championship on November 22, 2014 at Cotai Arena. Zou scored three knockdowns en route to a 119-106, 119-106 and 120-103 victory over his vastly more experienced opponent. He showed his mettle by fighting through numerous head butts that swelled his left eye shut as well as weathering numerous low blows. But Zou kept his composure throughout the fight showing the world he was ready for a world title shot. Zou captured his first WBO International flyweight title on July 19, 2014, stepping up to his first 10-round fight and winning a unanimous decision over Top-10 contender Luis De La Rosa, proving to the world that he had developed into a world title contender. Zou is currently world-rated No. 3 by the WBO and No. 5 by the IBF. One of the most popular Olympic athletes in China, Zou was the world’s greatest amateur light flyweight, capturing gold medals in the World Amateur Championships in 2005, 2007 and 2011, along with gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games. He also owns an Olympic bronze medal from the 2004 games, making him his nation’s first Olympic medallist in boxing as well as its first boxing gold medallist in the World Amateur Championships and the Olympics.

Training Camp Notes: Curtis Stevens

Curtis Stevens
Boca Raton, FL:
As Curtis “Cerebral Assassin” Stevens (27-5, 20 KOs) prepares to step into the ring against Patrick Teixeira (26-0, 22 KOs) on the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard for the May 7 Canelo-Khan telecast live from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, he has a new trainer, a new nickname and new plan of attack.

Stevens, 31, originally from Brownsville, Brooklyn recently moved to South Florida and hooked up with elite boxing trainer John David Jackson. Jackson, a former world champion, also trains Main Events’ stablemate and WBO, WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev. Curtis’ decision to move forward with a new trainer also inspired him to drop his “Showtime” nickname. He said, “Me and my uncle [Curtis’ former trainer/uncle Andre Rozier] isn’t working together anymore and ‘Showtime’ was a thing of the past ever since I was playing football in high school. It is time for a new era, new person, new identity. I am a wrestling fanatic so I get ‘Cerebral Assassin’ from Triple H. A cerebral assassin is very distinctive with his skill and I like that.”

Stevens and Jackson starting working together in February after Stevens spent time sparring with Canelo Alvarez while he prepared for his November fight against Miguel Cotto. Curtis said he learned a lot during his time at Canelo’s camp and that was part of his motivation to change his game plan. Stevens said, “Canelo told me to be more relaxed. We’ve got ten rounds to fight, so I don’t need to go in there and try to knock him out in the first like I usually do. Not every shot has to be the finishing shot.”

Jackson echoed that same sentiment when the two first got together. According to Stevens, “Mostly we are just working on me being relaxed. We are working on my slips and working on going to the body, me just using my speed and not just relying on the power. My uncle was more ‘go get ’em.’ John is like that too but do it in a calm and casual way instead of always going for the knockout. He is just more relaxed and wants me more relaxed.”

John David believes Curtis has all the tools he needs to be successful, but in the past he relied too much on his powerful left hook. Jackson explained, “Curtis can box. He just never used his full boxing capability. I am making him throw more punches, go inside and go to the body. He has a tremendous right hand. The power is still there but the delivery is better now. He has a great jab too. He has all the tools to be a world champion. He was relying solely on the left hook and when he didn’t knock the guy out he had no other game plan. Now he can break these guys down systematically and then knock them out. He’s listening but it takes time. I think he and I will need three or four fights before it really comes together the way it should but glimpses of it are coming now as we work together more and more.”

Canelo vs. Khan, a 12-round fight for Canelo’s WBC, Ring Magazine and Lineal Middleweight World Championships, is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Canelo Promotions and sponsored by “Cerveza Tecate, Born Bold,” O’Reilly Auto Parts, Casa Mexico Tequila, DOOM® — Fight Like Hell on May 13, and HANDS OF STONE: The True Story of Roberto Duran, in theaters this August.
David Lemieux vs. Glen Tapia is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Eye of the Tiger Management and
Patrick Teixeira vs. Curtis Stevens is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Main Events. The mega-event will take place Saturday, May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Tickets priced at $1,500, $1,000, $800, $600, $400, $250 and $150, not including applicable service charges and taxes, with a total ticket limit of 12 per person (a limit of 10 per person at the $1,500, $1,000, $800, $600 and $400 price levels and a limit of two [2] per person at the $250 and $150 price level) are on sale now. FURY AND KASSI MEET FACE-TO-FACE AT THE FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury came face-to-face with his latest opponent ‘Big’ Fred Kassi at today’s press conference at the Savoy Hotel in London. Fury, 19-0 10 KO’s, is gunning for another knockout win on his quest to join cousin Tyson at the very top of the world heavyweight scene.

Exciting heavyweight destroyer Fury is expecting a tough challenge in the experienced Kassi, 18-4-1 10 KO’s, and knows he will have to be at his explosive best if he is to bag the Vacant WBO Intercontinental Heavyweight title.

“I’m just happy that I’ve got such a great team in my corner. I’ve learnt a lot form sharing a training camp with my cousin Tyson. I’m only 21 and I’ve already come up against some decent opponents. Kassi is another step up for me. I want these type of fights on my way to the top, “said Fury.

Hard-hitting Kassi has a fearsome reputation with ten knockout wins in 19 career victories; nine of them coming inside two rounds. The New Orleans-based bruiser is capable of mixing things up and is promising to upset the odds against the Mancunian prospect.

Cromer star Liam Walsh finally takes on Coventry’s Troy James in Saturday’s chief-support. The slick southpaw knows he will have to overcome hungry challenger James before setting his eyes on a world title showdown with Manchester star Terry Flanagan.

Walsh said: “I’ve been unlucky with hand injuries but I’m still a very young 29; there’s no rush. I know I’ve got to get past Troy before I get a shot at a final eliminator but he has my full attention and my full respect. He doesn’t get the respect he deserves and I’m expecting a great fight.”

‘Terrifying Troy’, a warhorse unbeaten in three and a half years, has vowed to prize the British and Commonwealth Super-Featherweight titles from Walsh. The pair have been scheduled to fight on numerous occasions but injuries on both sides has prevented a meeting until now.

History-making Ryan Walsh makes the second defence of his British Featherweight title against Belfast ace James Tennyson. After making an impressive first defence against Scotland’s Darren Traynor at York Hall in January Ryan is looking forward to fighting on the same show as his twin brother.

“To be fighting in a title fight on the same show as Liam is special. We’ve both promised each other that we’re going to win and that’s exactly what we’ll do. I worked hard to get this British title and there’s no way I’m giving it up,” said Walsh.

Red-hot Belfast featherweight contender Tennyson is already making waves in his division and will be looking to claim Walsh’s British title before pushing on towards his dream of a world title.

Tennyson said: “Every box has been ticked. I just need to go in there and execute my game plan on Saturday night. It’s important to win on Saturday night, if I win there’s no need to come over to England anymore, there’s some big arenas over in Belfast that I’d love to pack out.”

Ovill McKenzie withdrew from the card due to an injury with his Vacant EBU European Cruiserweight Championship title showdown against Dmytro Kucher now scheduled for June 10th at a venue to be confirmed.

“I KNEW MY LEGACY FIGHT WOULD EVENTUALLY COME AFTER MAYWEATHER DISAPPOINTMENT” – KHAN RARING TO GO FOR CANELO SUPERFIGHT AS HE LOOKS TO MAKE HISTORY EXCLUSIVELY LIVE ON BOXNATION

Amir Khan
LONDON (April 28) – British star Amir Khan always believed that he would get the chance of a legacy fight, despite setbacks in his pursuit of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

The two-time world champion has told BoxNation that he has always been convinced of landing a superfight ahead of his eagerly anticipated showdown with Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez next Saturday night.

The pair are set to do battle at the newly built T-Mobile Arena for the lineal middleweight world title, with Khan revealing that he was certain that he would eventually get the opportunity to shine on the biggest of stages.

“I always believed that I would get the opportunity to prove myself in a historic fight, even after the disappointment of not getting Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao,” said Khan.

“I felt that an opportunity would present itself and that always kept me going and moving forward. That time has come now with Canelo and I can look to create my own legacy and take on someone who is one of the very best out there,” Khan told BoxNation.

29-year-old Khan, a welterweight who will be moving up two weight divisions to take on the formidable Canelo believes that this fight will be harder than against either Mayweather or Pacquiao.

“This is a tougher fight than against a Mayweather or Pacquiao because of the size difference but I love that sort of challenge – it’s why I’m in boxing,” he said.

“I’m going in there to give everything and to prove that this is where I belong. I’ve done some great work for this camp and will be ready to go as soon as the bell rings to start the fight.

“Canelo is a great champion, in his prime, very skilled and I will need to be at my very best to beat him. In most people’s eyes I’m seen as the underdog for this fight but I know deep down that I can win it. I’m ready to go and prove myself on this stage,” Khan said.

The fight will take place on the Mexican holiday weekend of Cinco de Mayo in which there is expected to be a large turnout of Canelo fans.

Khan, however, is undaunted at the prospect of entering into the lion’s den and expects the sizeable contingent of British fans making the trip to be just as boisterous.

“British fans are the best around,” said Khan. “They can out-sing anyone so I’m sure they’ll make their voices heard on fight night. It doesn’t worry me how many fans he has in the arena because I know there are a lot of fans travelling from Britain and their support will be incredible.

“It’s going to give me an extra boost hearing them and seeing them waving their flags. I want to do this for the UK and keep British boxing on the high we’ve been experiencing of late,” he said.

Khan v Canelo is exclusively live on BoxNation (Sky/Freeview/Virgin/TalkTalk/Online & App) next Saturday night. Go to boxnation.com to subscribe.

Star Boxing’s Australian Star Zac Dunn Goes for 21st Straight Win

April 27

Star Boxing’s unbeaten Australian sensation Zac Dunn (20-0, 16 KOs) will put his untarnished record and the WBC International Silver Super Middleweight title on the line in his hometown at The Melbourne Pavilion, taking on always-dangerous Les Sherrington (35-8, 19 KOs) this Saturday night, April 30.

The “Dynamo” from Down Under won his United States debut last October under Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing banner, and now makes his second straight appearance back on Australian soil in quest of his 21st straight victory. On February 26, Dunn captured the vacant WBC International Silver super middleweight title with a first round knockout over heavy handed Brazilian Rogerio Damasco, also at the Melbourne Pavilion.

Dunn previously held the IBO World Super Middleweight championship.

Dunn’s United States and Star Boxing debut was a spectacular performance at Rockin’ Fights 21 on October 24 at the Paramount. DeGuardia’s headliner saw Dunn battle grizzled veteran Derrick Findley (22-17-1 14KO Gary, IN) in a “Fight of the Year” candidate over 10 rounds. Dunn won the thrilling split decision by two scores of 95-94, while the third judge had the same score in favor of Findley. From bell-to-bell, the raucous crowd was thrilled by the barn-burner, as the Australian and Findley went toe-to-toe, throwing bombs all night.

Ranked #10 by the WBC, the wonder from Down Under has reeled off 20 straight professional victories without defeat, including 16 by way of knockout.

“This is a very important fight for Zac, said DeGuardia. There are many opportunities available in the Super Middleweight division with elite fighters. I am confident that Zac will once again put on a spectacular performance and be victorious against the dangerous Sherrington.”

During a storied amateur career, Dunn scored 152 victories in 170 fights, showcasing his talents all over the world. The battle-tested Australian has fought in in Baku, Azerbaijan (bronze at the World Cadets Championship 2007), Guadalajara, Mexico (quarterfinalist in the World Youth Championship as Australian captain), Noginsk, Russia (Silver medallist at Junior Memorial), and Anapa, Russia (Bronze medallist twice at Nikolay Pavlyukov Memorial 2008 and 2009), and Guantanamo, Cuba (silver medallist at the international tournament Giraldo Cordova Cardin 2010).

ROGER GRACIE AND MICHAL PASTERNAK TO COMPETE FOR LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

28 April 2016 – Singapore: The largest sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), has announced that ONE Middleweight World Champion Vitaly Bigdash will no longer be able to compete at ONE: ASCENT TO POWER due to an injury he suffered during training. The co-main event will now be between Roger Gracie and Michal Pasternak with the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship at stake. In the main event, Singapore’s Angela Lee remains set to do battle with Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi for the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship.

Tickets for ONE: ASCENT TO POWER are available at http://www.sportshubtix.com.sg.

“Unstoppable” Angela Lee of Waipahu, Hawaii, is one of the promotion’s most promising young prospects regardless of gender or weight class. Lee has strong roots in Singapore and trains at Asia’s premiere mixed martial arts gym, Evolve MMA. Lee’s beautiful combination of solid striking and grappling skills has proven to be a potent formula for success as she remains unbeaten so far in her MMA career. Lee will now challenge Japanese MMA veteran Mei Yamaguchi for the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship.

33-year-old Japanese MMA veteran Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi is a female atomweight from Tokyo with a 15-8-1 professional mixed martial arts record. She is the current Deep Jewels Atomweight Champion and has won her last three bouts, including two by knockout. Yamaguchi’s experience and championship mettle will prove to be the biggest test of the surging Angela Lee’s career in a battle for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship.

In the evening’s co-main event, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu master Roger Gracie of the Gracie fighting family returns to ONE Championship seeking to continue his winning ways. In Gracie’s last bout, he overcame a dangerous James McSweeney to win via third-round technical knockout at ONE: WARRIOR’S WAY. This time, Gracie takes on unbeaten contender Michal Pasternak for the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship.

32-year-old Michal Pasternak of Pinczow, Poland, was successful in his ONE Championship debut against Rafael Silva, prevailing by decision to extend his win streak to 11. More than half of his victories have come either by knockout or submission, and he’ll be put to the test against Roger Gracie in a highly-anticipated five round title tiff for the inaugural ONE Light Heavyweight World Championship.

Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag Jadambaa of Mongolia makes his highly-anticipated return to the ONE cage since losing his title to current titleholder Marat “Cobra” Gafurov in an instant classic last November. Jadambaa and Gafurov went back-and-forth for four gruelling rounds before Gafurov was able to unseat the former champion. Jadambaa is now on the comeback trail, but will face tough foe Kotetsu Boku next.

Kotetsu “No Face” Boku, although originally from South Korea, is a Japanese mixed martial arts legend and former ONE Lightweight World Champion. With more than 30 professional fights on his fight resume, Boku has the experience of a seasoned veteran and has seen it all inside the cage. Always a crowd pleaser, Boku gets to showcase his dynamite fists once again as he takes on fellow former champion Narantungalag Jadambaa.

Christian “The Warrior” Lee, younger brother of Angela “Unstoppable” Lee, has impressed in his first few outings in ONE Championship. Lee is riding the momentum of three stoppage wins inside the ONE Cage, two by highlight-reel knockout and the other by crafty submission. Lee looks to continue his early success but will face a stern test when he takes on the Philippines’ Cary Bullos.

32-year-old Filipino featherweight contender Cary “The Prince” Bullos is the URCC Visayas Bantamweight Champion. He has finished all his opponents in his seven wins, making him one of the top mixed martial arts prospects in the Philippines. Bullos fell short of victory in his first two appearances inside the ONE Cage, but he’s determined to get back in the win column by defeating Singapore’s Christian Lee.

Mohamed Ali is a mixed martial arts veteran who hails from Alexandria, Egypt. The well-travelled striker has competed in several countries in his mixed martial arts career. A national kickboxing and sanda champion, he has finished most of his opponents by KO or TKO, a clear indication of his striking capabilities. In his last bout, Ali went shot-for-shot with Myanmar’s Aung La N Sang. He’ll now take on Japan’s Tatsuya Mizuno.

Tatsuya Mizuno is a 34-year-old Japanese mixed martial arts veteran from Tokyo. His extensive professional MMA record of 14 wins and 11 losses has given him knowledge and experience that is a cut above the level of many fighters. Mizuno uses his great all-round striking and grappling skills to subdue his opponents, and he gets another chance for victory inside the ONE Cage against Mohamed Ali.

21-year-old Singaporean mixed martial arts prospect Amir Khan will make his much-anticipated return to competition following a win over Filipino Jimmy Yabo back in November. Khan of Evolve MMA is a five-fight ONE Championship veteran who has only lost once inside the ONE Cage. The young gun is well-rounded and very aggressive, and will look to take on John Chang next.

Taiwanese mixed martial artist John “The Blade” Chang will be making his ONE Championship debut. At four wins and three losses, Chang is a Sanda specialist and a solid prospect. He is the former Chinese Taipei K-1 Rules champion as well as the former Sanda-King champion. His first foray into Asia’s largest MMA promotion will be a tough one, when he takes on the promising young Amir Khan.

Unbeaten young Singaporean Benedict Ang has two wins and no losses inside the ONE Cage. The 19-year-old featherweight from Evolve MMA defeated mixed martial arts veteran Yohan Mulia Legowo in his last bout, stopping the Indonesian after two rounds of hard action. The highly-skilled Ang will showcase his talents once more when he faces Filipino Jimmy Yabo.

The Philippines’ Jimmy “The Silencer” Yabo is a former URCC standout with an impressive mixed martial arts record of five wins and two losses. He boasts a perfect knockout percentage, having finished all five of his opponents by KO within the distance, including his last bout when he felled Pakistan’s Bashir Ahmad with one punch. A rededicated Yabo is now looking for victory, but he’ll have to go through tough Singaporean Benedict Ang to get it.

Undefeated 21-year-old Dagistani Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev impressed fans in his first appearance in the ONE Cage last January, winning by technical knockout at just over 30 seconds into the first round against Mishal Alfad. Arslanaliev brought the crowd to the edge of their seats from the opening bell, swarming his opponent with fearless aggression and impressive wrestling technique. Arslanaliev will take on China’s Ma Jia Wen next.

Chinese standout Ma Jia Wen is 2-1 inside the ONE Cage, and a victor in his last bout against compatriot Wang Ya Wei last November at ONE: DYNASTY OF CHAMPIONS – Beijing II. Ma is part of a quickly rising contingent of rock-solid Chinese mixed martial artists, and will look to put his skills further to the test against aggressive Dagistani standout Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev.

Unbeaten 20-year-old Malaysian prospect Agilan “Alligator” Thani of Kuala Lumpur will return to the cage following an impressive showing last January against James Kouame. The brutishly strong Thani is one of Malaysia’s most promising young fighters, and has a perfect record of exciting finishes. He’ll take on Brad Robinson in a catchweight bout next.

The United States’ Brad Robinson will return to the ONE Cage seeking his first victory in the promotion. Robinson has a 3-1 professional mixed martial arts record, and is a winner of his last bout by submission. His next contest is against unbeaten up-and-comer Agilan Thani.

Victor Ortiz, Andre Berto, Edwin Rodriguez, Thomas Williams Jr., Jorge Lara & Fernando Montiel Media Workout Quotes

Victor Ortiz
SANTA MONICA, CALIF. (April 27, 2016) – Fight week kicked-off Wednesday afternoon with media workouts for the long awaited rematch between former world champion “Vicious” Victor Ortiz and Andre “The Beast” Berto that headlines Premier Boxing Champions on FOX and FOX Deportes on Saturday, April 30 from StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

The action begins at 8 p.m.

Prior to the start of televised fights, an Official Fan Fest will be held for ticket holders outside of the StubHub Center. The events start at 2:30 p.m. PT and features a Corona Beer Garden, food trucks, music from the band Metalachi and autograph signings with popular fighters such as Leo Santa Cruz, Abner Mares, Shawn Porter and more.

Here is what the fighters had to say Wednesday from the Wild Card West Boxing Club in Santa Monica:

VICTOR ORTIZ

“I put a total of 14 weeks of work into this fight. Nothing easy about that work. Come the 30th, I’m going to prove why I beat Berto the first time.

“I know what I’m here to do. I’ve got my fire back. People claim that I don’t have the fire, but you’ll see on April 30.

“People don’t know what I go through on the daily. When I’m injured for months at a time, I just have me and my team. We work hard.

“I’m going to be back on top in no time. That’s my opinion. I know where I belong.

“I’m focusing on Berto. That’s my target and that’s my focus.

“He’s done what he’s done. You have to respect that. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. We’re going toe-to-toe.”

ANDRE BERTO

“This is the type of game where if you don’t respect it, it won’t respect you. I’m in a much better place right now. I’ve learned a lot over the years since the first fight. I’m healthy and focused.

“I’m just ready to go. Camp was tremendous. We’re really ready to get in there and do it.

“There’s a lot that goes into this for me. It was my first loss and I had so many emotions back then, so it’s time to get that monkey off my back.

“My plan is to win this in a fashion so there will be no third fight.

“My focus is on getting the victory Saturday night. I want to look good doing. I’m not thinking about anything after that.

“I’ve worked on a lot of different things in camp. We’re going to do whatever it takes to get the win.

“You all haven’t ever seen me look like this. I’ve pretty much locked myself in a cage for eight or nine weeks. I’ve put everything aside. I’ve just been grinding.”

EDWIN RODRIGUEZ

“He’s got some power and some style. He can do a few things. We have to go at it.

“I feel great at this weight class. I have the speed and strength to make an impact in this division.

“I hadn’t fought a southpaw in a while but we’ve had great sparring with guys like Marcus Browne. I feel very prepared. I’ve never had an issue with southpaws.

“I’m excited to be back on the west coast. This is an incredible card. I was at the first fight between Ortiz and Berto and It’s going be another great fight. But I’m coming to steal the show on Saturday night.

“In boxing you’re as good as your last fight. Right now I’m a warrior who took more shots than I should have. I’ve improved quite a bit but I want to improve on any fights. I’m not going down again.”

THOMAS WILLIAMS JR.

“Win, lose or draw you know Thomas Williams will bring the fight to you. I’ve been dropped and gotten up. This won’t go the distance, so don’t blink.

“I’ve been boxing since I was five-years-old. I have an amateur pedigree and been pro since 2010. I had to take some time off in 2014 but now I’m back and stronger than ever.

“The biggest challenge is just getting to the ring. I don’t want to get caught up in the talk of what he does. It’s just going to be me in there. If I go in and do the things that I’m supposed to do, I should come out on top.

“You have to keep your punches short against a pressure fighter. A short punch will beat a wild punch any day. I just have to keep my composure and stay relaxed.

“I haven’t watched any of his fights. I leave that up to my trainers to create the game plan and we go from there. I have seen him fight before. We were on the same card, so I did have the chance to watch him live.”

JORGE LARA

“Montiel has been around a long time. He’s been a world champion and he comes to fight.

“I’ve studied him and watched him fight before. I feel I know him very well. I have a plan for how I’m going to get to him.

“I am very well prepared. I’m not worried about his experience. I’ve trained hard to be ready and I know what I have to do on fight night.

“The winners in this fight will be the fans. We are going to put on a great show and give the fans something to remember.

“If I can beat him, I can move up the rankings and get closer to a world title shot. That is my goal and this is a big step on my path.

“I’m really pumped up about fighting in front of the fans in Southern California. I know they will appreciate my style and it will be a great atmosphere on Saturday.”

FERNANDO MONTIEL

“Lara is a young talented guy and I’m going to have to be at my best. He’s a dangerous guy and I will have to be ready.

“I had to change everything to fight the lefthander after preparing to fight Abner Mares. We had a great camp and we will be ready.

“I’m excited to be on a card like this. I think the main event is going to be a really fun fight for the fans. I see both guys going down during the fight but I’m going with Victor to win.”

Chilemba Media Conference Call Quotes

Isaac Chilemba, WBO, WBA and IBF Light Heavyweight Challenger

“I want to thank Main Events for making this fight possible. Thanks to Sergey Kovalev for giving me this challenge.”

On Kovalev’s Recent Opponents
“I believe Kovalev he is a hard-working fighter. There is no such thing as an easy fight. I believe Kovalev worked hard to get where he is. I don’t think he would say any of his opponents weren’t tough. He has never fought me or someone like him though. This will be a very different fight for Kovalev.”

About Kovalev’s Last Fight in Russia
“Whatever happened at that time is not what’s going to happen now. The pressure is on Kovalev. He will be fighting in his hometown where he hasn’t fought in a long time. My focus is on him. My mind is on him only.”

On Isaac’s Recent Controversial Loss to Eleider Alvarez
“I have gained a lot experience from a lot of hard-fought fights in hometowns of my opponents. I am working on Kovalev. I am going to give him hell and not leave it in the judges’ hands. Everyone expects it to be an easy fight for him. I have come short fighting for the WBC Title but maybe this is where I was meant to be. I want to thank everyone who helped make this happen. I will put it all out there to make sure I get the decision.

“I was disappointed after my fight with Alvarez. When I got the call that this fight was offered you can’t believe the joy that came over me. I knew I would get another chance to fight a tough opponent. I have been praying hard and I thank God that I finally got the opportunity.”

On Fighting in Kovalev’s Home Country
“I believe the pressure is on him. He is fighting at home. He needs to show his home people what he is made of. I am happy to go to fight anyone, anywhere, in their backyard, in their own house I don’t care. I will give a show. I am gunning for a win. I don’t care where we are fighting. I don’t care what Kovalev is made of. We know his weaknesses and we know his strengths. I am going to beat him in his own town.”

On Receiving the Offer to Fight Kovalev
“I was filled with joy. I am truly excited about it. I deserve it. I am very happy that I got this opportunity.”

On Training Camp for This Fight
“Buddy is coming to me. South Africa is the best place where we can train. We are going to go old style for this fight.”

On His Confidence Regarding this Fight
“I believe in myself. I believe in my abilities as a fighter. Coming in I am not worried about anything else. Every mistake I have made in my personal life and my boxing life has made me stronger. I am confident. I trust my team and Buddy. I will be ready. I am where I am meant to be. I believe this is where I am going to show the world who I am and what I am made of. Kovalev is not invincible, he is not God, he is a man just like me. I will be the man to crush the Krusher.

“I believe I am the antidote to Kovalev. I am walking into this fight with only a few people believing in me. I am going to show the world. We are going to do what Kovalev, and no one else in the world, has ever seen. It isn’t anything hard on me. The pressure is on him. I love proving people wrong. That pushes me.”

Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events

“We are delighted that not only will Sergey get his chance to fight in Russia, but Isaac will get the title shot that he has wanted ever since we have known him. That is what this sport is about. This makes for an entertaining evening for everyone. Hopefully you will see us on July 11. We will find a way for people to see it. Hopefully we can get an HBO quality broadcast out there. That is what we are working on.”

On Making This Fight
“I think we called Isaac on Monday and his team responded on Tuesday. The contract was signed by Friday. Isaac very much wanted his title shot. He did everything we ever asked him to do. Our feeling that Isaac was deserving and the perfect fight for Sergey. Sergey needs to fight a boxer to prepare for Ward. Isaac is a tremendous boxer. If you look at the way he took apart [Vasily] Lepikhin, it was surgical the way he did it. I am fortunate that both fighters wanted the biggest challenge they could get at that moment. It was hard to find the right partners in Russia to make this fight happen. Once we found them everything else fell together so easily. Once we had all the pieces in place it came together easily.”

On Promoting Both Fighters
“My job is to make good fights, get good opportunities for my fighters. Isaac deserves a title fight. There are lot of fighters who avoid risk to keep their records intact. There was a never a question of who they would they fight. We don’t sign people here at Main Events who don’t want to fight.

“When I suggest fighters that don’t test Sergey, he gets annoyed. He is preparing to face Ward in the fall. He wants to be challenged.”

On Isaac’s Controversial Decision Against Alvarez
“How could a bad decision hold you back? Isaac is an extraordinary fighter.”

On the Other Opponents Considered Before Chilemba
“As I do every time, I talked to Adonis Stevenson’s people and after some debate they turned it down again. Alvarez’s people approached me about doing the fight in Canada in June but, of course, in the end Alvarez’s people did not follow through so we decided to make the fight in Russia.”

James “Buddy” McGirt, Chilemba’s Trainer

On Isaac’s Keys to Victory
“The key to victory is to box. You need to mix stuff up a little. I don’t see Kovalev as just a puncher. He can fight. We have to focus on his fighting ability as well. Isaac can fight as well. We need to have more than one game plan and stick to the one that works to emerge victorious.

“Kovalev is home so the pressure is on him, not us on. He has to impress his fans back home and we need to upset the applecart.”

On This Opportunity for Isaac
“After Isaac’s last fight what I thought he got the decision or the draw. If you look at the light heavyweight division who else out is out there for Sergey? Adonis [Stevenson] isn’t going to fight Kovalev. You have to give the Chilemba the title fight. Sometimes a loss can do more for you than the win, that’s boxing. Good things come to those who wait. I believe Kathy and Kovalev believe Isaac deserves this fight and I thank them. Kathy knows what she is looking at when she sees Isaac.”

On Isaac’s Chances Against Kovalev
“I see a guy that has all the tools. If not, he would not be as successful as he has been. He has all the tools to upset the applecart. And for 12 rounds on July 11 we are going to give him hell. The key is to keep boxing and stay busy, don’t worry about the power. That’s when you have a problem. We are going to be prepared for anything and everything. Kovalev is a hell of a fighter. He isn’t a one-dimensional guy so we can’t be one-dimensional either. We have to be prepared for everything and we will be.”

On Sergey’s Recent Opponents
“I am a firm believer you know a good fighter when you see him. There wasn’t anyone for Larry Holmes to fight but he was still a hell of a fighter. So is Isaac Chilemba. Isaac can pretty much be Isaac and that will have him be successful. You can’t focus on Sergey’s power. He just needs to be Isaac.”

Jodi Solomon, Chilemba’s Manager

“Thanks to Main Events for the opportunity. Thanks to Sergey Kovalev and his team for this opportunity as well.”

Victor Ortiz, Andre Berto, Edwin Rodriguez & Thomas Williams Jr. Media Conference Call Transcript

Victor Ortiz
Brittany Goossen-Brown

Hi everyone. Thank you for joining us today on this call. On behalf of TGB Promotions we are very excited to be back on FOX in primetime and promoting this highly anticipated and long-awaited rematch. On this call today we have the co-main and main event. Before I turn it over to Ray Flores who will introduce the fighters I wanted to remind everyone that tickets are still available. They’re starting at $27. Also we will be hosting a special Fan Fest beginning at 2:30 PM for any ticketed fan. There will be live music, food and fun and a Corona beer garden. I am looking forward to seeing all of the LA boxing fans out there. We’ll now turn it over to the voice of TGB Promotions Ray Flores.

Ray Flores
Thank you very much Brittany. We have an outstanding card from top to bottom. It is an honor and a pleasure. It is fight week. It is at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. PBC live on FOX and FOX Deportes at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

We have a tremendous triple header for all of you this Saturday. When you’re talking about it on social media use the hashtag #PBConFOX. Tickets are going very quickly. This fight is selling unbelievably well. Our televised opener features three division world champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel against the unbeaten Mexican brawler Jorge Lara. This is going to be a battle in the featherweight division.

In the co-feature we will have another battle. It is going to be a slug-fest featuring Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez colliding against Thomas “Top Dog” Williams. In the main event five years in the making it happens this Saturday PBC on FOX and FOX Deportes, it’s “Vicious” Victor Ortiz squaring off with Andre “The Beast” Berto. This is a fight that is without question going to be a barnburner.

Now let’s talk about one of our co-featured bouts of the evening. Fighting out of Fort Washington, Maryland, most recently having picked up two victories including a second round TKO over world ranked contender Umberto Savigne last November, ladies and gentlemen please welcome Thomas “Top Dog” Williams.

Thomas Williams
I’m just ready to go. It’s been a good training camp. This fight was originally scheduled for March the 12th in Connecticut. We had to simmer down a little bit because we were right on schedule and we bring it down to bring it back up. We’re here on April 30 and we’re just ready to go.

R. Flores
Thank you very much Thomas. We are excited to watch you fight against this man. He is born in the Dominican Republic now fighting out of Worchester, Massachusetts. His only loss came at the hands of Andre Ward back in 2013. He’s coming off of a Fight of the Year candidate last November against Michael Seals. What a matchup that was. It did certainly provide a lot of ebbs and flows and highs and lows in the course of the match. So please welcome ladies and gentlemen Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez.

Edwin Rodriguez
I’m happy to be back fighting in California. I’m excited. I had a really good training camp and Thomas is a good fighter. He seems to have had a good camp so this is going to be a great fight, you know, two top contenders going at it to try to fight to get a world title fight. The fans can’t go wrong on this fight.

Q
I want to ask both of you how exciting does this fight stand to be given your styles and what is at stake?

T. Williams
Honestly this fight will be exciting no matter what. I think it’s great for the light-heavyweight division to have two top light-heavyweights fight each other, both of them at the top of their game, both coming off of exciting wins.

This fight is going to be a fight that will be talked about for a while. I think it’s a very important fight and an exciting fight whether the winner fights Adonis Stevenson or not. Either way it puts the winner into a top position inside the light-heavyweight division.

E. Rodriguez
I agree with Thomas. I think that at this point Adonis Stevenson is irrelevant. I think that this is enough for the fans to see that this is a great fight between two warriors who put everything on the line.

I’ve been fighting for about seven, eight years as a professional and to fight for a world title that has always been the main goal. Without getting past Thomas William there is no Adonis Stevenson or any other title. So my main focus is going in there and being the best that I can be that night.

Q
How important is it for you guys to add a different narrative to the division?

T. Williams
Well I think Stevenson is not that exciting for me. I think as an individual my style is more exciting and Edwin’s style is more exciting than Adonis Stevenson. So I think we already pretty much separated ourselves from Stevenson. They call him out because he’s the champion but I don’t think their styles are exciting. I just think me and Edwin’s styles are little bit better than theirs honestly.

E. Rodriguez
Screw Stevenson, screw Kovalev. I’m just looking forward to finally performing against Thomas Williams.

Q
Edwin why do you think you’re going to be able to win this fight and get that title shot?

E. Rodriguez
I believe I had a really good training camp and did a lot of working against a southpaw. But fighting for a world title it’s a dream and a goal come true, not just fighting for but winning it. Thomas Williams is in my way. I worked extremely hard in this training camp to get him out of the way. I just got to put the game plan together fight night.

Q
What do you think your advantages are over him coming into this fight?

E. Rodriguez
I’m a little bit more seasoned. I have more total fights. I have fought better opposition. I have wins against undefeated fighters. Guys like himself with the one loss, I just got to put everything together. I think I have been there, I have more rounds.

Q
Thomas also why do you think you’re going to be able to win this fight and earn a title shot?

T. Williams
Well mainly because I’ve just been doing this my whole life. I never did any other sport. I came into the boxing gym at the age of five years old. My dad was a top professional. I’ve been doing this. I was sparring with world champions from Washington, DC at the age of 12 or 13 years old. Man I might not have the fights but I’ve been doing this my whole life as long as I can remember.

I just think I’ve just been around it and I’ve got the experience, amateur experience, just being around the game and just being in boxing all of my life. I’ve never did anything else, no other sport but boxing. I think that will actually be a big key on fight night.

Q
For both of you what is the significance of fighting on FOX and at StubHub Center?

E. Rodriguez
For me, going back to the StubHub Center and I fought there before, great atmosphere. Being on PBC on FOX, it’s huge. Especially being part of this big card with Berto-Ortiz who the first fight was – it was a war. So I’m looking forward and I’m just happy to be part of it as well, with Thomas who’s a fighter who brings a lot of pressure. It’s going to be a great match for the fans and you can’t go wrong.

T. Williams
Well yes I’ve always seen fights at StubHub like when Paul Williams fought Antonio Margarito for the title. He beat Margarito for the title then and that was a war. StubHub is known for like having the wars. They kind of built this card for brawlers and people that are exciting.

Berto versus Ortiz, me and Edwin and then we have Phillip Jackson from DC against David Benavidez those are going to be exciting fights. Fighting on FOX is that platform is going to be huge. I think it has like so many viewers and everything and man it’s definitely going to be a great atmosphere and I’m just ready to go.

Q
Do either of you expect this to go the distance?

E. Rodriguez
Hell no.

T. Williams
I don’t think anybody expects it to go the distance.

Q
Edwin, what’s your most potent weapon against Thomas? And Thomas if you could direct that regarding Edwin?

E. Rodriguez
Just fighting a southpaw, it’s a whole thing. Everything is different. So because of that I was happy to have a long camp, because fighting a southpaw there were things that we needed to work on. It’s a whole different style. I don’t want to get into details but, it’s just a whole different style and different game plan.

It’s easier for them because they always fight right-handed. We don’t fight that many southpaws. But, I feel comfortable. I never had any issues with southpaws so I’m excited to get this fight in. Actually I’d like to thank Thomas Williams because he was the one that came out and called my name that he wanted this fight.

I’ve got to thank him because without fighting a guy like Thomas who has a name in boxing and being on TV a few times, I wouldn’t have been able to keep moving up. Because I kept getting these guys that were undefeated but nobody really knew anything about them. So I think that fighting a guy like Thomas that, people know who he is. I think it’ll put that nail the coffin for me to get a world title fight.

Q
Does the right hand become more important?

E. Rodriguez
I don’t think so. I think that the jab is just as important as the right-hand in this fight.

Q
And same questions for you Thomas?

T. Williams
First thing I want to say and when I see Edwin I was going to ask him about this. I never once called his name. Actually when the fight was brought to me they told me Edwin wanted to fight me. I was like gees, like damn, I was okay, cool we could fight. So they brought it to me like Edwin wanted to fight me when in actuality they probably told him I wanted to fight him when in actuality they didn’t even have to do all that. All they had to do was tell us hey, we think it’s a good idea you guys fight. We both probably would have been like all right cool.

They called me and told me Edwin wanted to fight me.

E. Rodriguez
I guess it was set up for a good fight. I like it. Let’s get it on.

Q
How are you going to knock him out then?

T. Williams
I can’t tell it over the phone. But I believe in it and if I say something I’ll stick by it. I’m going to stick by it. So I just want him to know that as being a man that I didn’t call him out. They told me he wanted to fight me. It’s over but that’s all I wanted to say. But me fighting a right handed fighter I’ve been fighting the right-handed fighters my whole life.

We don’t usually run up against southpaw against southpaw. And usually if it is it’s pretty much easy work. But fighting a right-handed fighter doesn’t earn me nothing. You know I’ve been fighting right-handed fighters my whole life.

Q
Did the fight getting pushed back to April 30 benefit either of you anyway?

E. Rodriguez
I think it did. I think it has, you know, especially that I was able to get even more good sparring in. That’s the type of work I needed for this fight. So I think it actually did help me in that case.

T. Williams
Yes of course whenever you have more time to train it’s always a benefit. I don’t really believe it was actually negative. I think it was positive and that probably makes for a better fight honestly.

Q
Were either of you on each other’s radar even before you appeared on the same show last November?

T. Williams
Being a fighter everybody who’s ranked or in front of me or in the top ten is pretty much on my radar. Ee’re fighters. If we were firemen we’ll put out fires. If we were doctors we would save lives. But we’re fighters so it is what it is.

E. Rodriguez
After the Andre Ward fight I’ve just been working my way to get back on title contention. So no I’ve been looking for a world title fight. Thomas didn’t have that so I was never really looking at him or anything like that. But I’m happy this fight got made, two tough contenders going at it. It’s a great fight and I’m excited. Let’s get it on.

R. Flores
If we can have some final comments from both Thomas Williams and Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez as we get ready for our main event.

T. Williams
My thinking is that this is going to be a great fight. Go to the bathroom, get your popcorn, get your food and everything, change the kids, put the kids to sleep, do what you’ve got to do because you may get up go to the bathroom and it might be over. It’s definitely going to be fireworks and I’m definitely looking forward to it.

E. Rodriguez
I’d like to thank my whole team, especially everybody that has helped me in this training camp. We’re ready to put on a great show and let’s get it on.

R. Flores
This fight has been marinating for five years. The rematch is finally taking place and what a battle it is going to be, an epic fight in 2011. We expect another epic matchup this Saturday at StubHub Center. Tickets are still available to make sure to get them quickly at AXS.com. They are going fast.

Let’s bring in a gentleman from Winter Haven, Florida coming off of fighting Floyd Mayweather. He was amazing and his PBC debut. What a thriller he had last March when he stopped Josesito Lopez in the sixth round of their welterweight showdown ladies and gentlemen please welcome a throwback fighter a guy who always takes on any and all comers here is Andre Berto.

Andre Berto
Yo, yo, yo, I don’t really have too much to say. Let’s get this thing on. I’m ready.

R. Flores
All right, Andre I know he’s looking forward to his match and let’s bring in your adversary originally from Kansas City now he resides in Ventura, California. He came back to the ring back in December and in San Antonio he was able to stop Gilberto Sanchez Leon. He’s willing to take on anybody and everybody, ladies and gentlemen please welcome the charismatic “Vicious” Victor Ortiz.

Victor Ortiz
How you guys doing? I know Berto has been putting in the work and back in 2011 we did a fight of the year and it was one hell of a fight, back and forth. I got a victory that night and he didn’t arrive fully I didn’t arrive fully so we’re both present 100% this coming Saturday. So quien es mas macho?

Q
What do you think is going to be different to this fight than your first fight that you had five years ago when you were favored in that fight?

A. Berto
I’m in incredible shape. I’m staying focused for this one. I don’t like to speak too much on the past situation but there’s a lot of different things that went on in that camp and of course if you’re young you’re dealing with a lot and you kind of take a lot of stuff for granted.

So we’re definitely in great shape. I had a tremendous camp. I’m extremely focused man. I don’t care about this and that that they’re saying about either Victor or whatever the case may be. He’s a fighter, he steps in that ring and at any given time, he come in there to put on the performance of his life.

He showed that before. I’m not taking anything for granted and I’m not leaving nothing unturned. I’m getting ready for the big one.

Q
What did you learn from the first fight that you can apply to this fight? And do you expect it to be as action packed, with all the knock downs and everything that took place in that fight?

A. Berto
I definitely learned a lot. I went through a lot of situations as well that bring me to this point. I’m a lot stronger mentally, physically all the way around. I’m with a great coach. We’ve been putting everything together.

Q
Victor why do you think you’re going to be able to try again all of these years later with both the experience and the other fights that both of you have had?

V. Ortiz
Hey we’ve both had some nice wars so I’m ready once again like I was the first time and hey we’re there to put it all on the line on Saturday night so don’t miss out man. Berto’s coming to kill me and I’m coming to kill Berto that’s that.

Q
Do you expect another blood fest like you had in 2011?

V. Ortiz
Oh absolutely, Berto’s one hell of a fighter and I know that. I don’t take that for granted and I’ve prepared for 12 hard rounds like the first time. So the result’s banging it up.

Q
Anybody want to make a prediction for this fight?

V. Ortiz
Oh yes I’ll be holding my hands in glory in the end once again.

A. Berto
Yes. I come for the win that’s it. He can try. He can definitely try.

Q
Andre, after the fight with Floyd Mayweather, did you have to kind of step away and take a little bit of break before you recalibrated?

A. Berto
Yes we had a lot of going on but I just had to relax a little bit, spend time with the family and the fight came about and it as definitely a fight that I didn’t have to take but I think it was the fight the fans wanted to see.

Q
Victor, how much is it about giving the fans this exciting fight more than just going in there and getting the W because a lot of fans look at this as you guys can recreate the Fight of the Year again?

V. Ortiz
Yes, like I said early on Berto’s coming in 100 miles an hour to take my head off and it’s the same thing on my end. We’re prepared fully for one another so at this point in time it’s definitely one of those memorable fights and now a days you don’t really get what you pay for what’s really is advertised as a false advertisement. I know Berto’s coming in fully prepared and so am I.

He’s arriving 100% and I will too so it’s one of those exciting fights, a war.

Q
How do you approach this fight from the perspective of what you know about the opponent and how you kind of, you know, go into it? How much different is it from 2011 to 2016?

A. Berto
You get to know somebody, you get to know your opponent, you get to calculate how you plan and react.

I think the situation of just being prepared all the way around makes me feel comfortable and it’s a different feeling from what I had heading into the first fight.

V. Ortiz
Hey he’s a warrior, he comes to fight. He’s not like these guys that don’t take fights. Man you have another guy who’s hungry to try and he’s hungry to give me a defeat and it’s not going to happen. I’ve been working too hard for this. I know he is too but the bottom line is two trains colliding and crashing and I will be the harder one. So at this point in time, I’d say we’re going to be ready 100% and two trains colliding Saturday night.

Q
How did you bring all of that angst and focus into your fight with Berto back then? And do you need to tap into that same angst to have a similar kind of a performance?

V. Ortiz
No, no it’s simple it’s you guys and I say you guys not just you I’m saying media. The media has this weird way of working. You guys think how you guys think and you guys write it out and then because one person in the media writes something weird about you or bad about you the world believes it. I know what I’m about I know why I’m here I know where I’m going and that’s that. It doesn’t matter what you or anyone says. I don’t really care. I know what I’m here and I know where I’m going and that’s that period.

Q
Andre, is this personal for you? Do you have to really get in there and have a sensational performance for you to be satisfied?

A. Berto
I mean to be realistic man I don’t really take no fight personally. It’s always been but at the same time, this is a fight that of course I’ve always thought to myself that no matter what happens we got to make it happen again. It doesn’t matter, when you’re coming back and beating this guy beating that guy.

But I feel that this is still the monkey on my back that I need to go in there and handle it., I won’t say it’s more personal but I’m taking it a lot more serious and so that’s a job that I need to try to complete and get done.

Q
Do feel like you even need boxing and does that kind of drive you with each fight?

V. Ortiz
No I actually don’t need to box. I turned down two movies and I was starring and headlining on the movies as one of the main actors. I turned the movies down because I want be back where I came from. I want to make sure I conquer what I came to conquer in boxing. I’m not done with boxing, I mean yes I had a couple of breaks in my wrists were both broken, jaw broken and then broken nose. I mean stuff happens but just because I was fixing myself the media wrote me off.

It wasn’t me who quote unquote “retired.” I never hung up anything. I mean besides the posters in my room or maybe the pictures on my wall. Other than that I didn’t hang anything up. But you guys wrote me off so I guess it’s a media thing.

But I’ve been in boxing and I’ve been 100 miles an hour 100% and I keep getting offers for movies and I keep turning them down because boxing is where I’m headed.

Q
Did having a year off get you into the right frame of mind for the rematch?

V. Ortiz
It doesn’t matter, there’s boxing gloves there’s a mouth piece there’s a cup there’s a boxing ring and an opponent so it is what it is, same thing.

Do your parts in movies affect the focus of your boxing career? Also, do you have aspirations still of fighting for a world title?

V. Ortiz
Yes, I don’t let boxing interfere with acting and I don’t let acting interfere with boxing. Those are two type of careers. When I was actually healing was when I was focusing on only movies I was focusing on TV shows and just doing that. But now that my hands are healed and my wrists my jaw and everything is proper and I’m back to putting my mind on boxing 100%.

That’s what every boxer is here for and we’re shooting for nothing less than being world champion again. It just took me a little bit longer from the physical person. I actually had to put two movies aside contracts and everything ready to sign as a lead actor and I said no let me go back to boxing. So I’m here once again and I’m ready.

R. Flores
Excellent and at this time we want some final comments from Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto.

A. Berto
Hey man we’re waiting for fight time, see you Saturday.

V. Ortiz
Hey just check it out. It’ll be a repeat of 2011.

Tickets went on general sale at 10am today and went inside half an hour – yet another rapid sell-out fight for the Olympic hero as fight fans are desperate to see him in action.

“Right now there is no hotter ticket in World boxing than Anthony Joshua and he has proved it today with another day one sell out at the O2,” said Hearn. “As the journey continues we will have to consider more and more stadiums to cope with the demand. SERGEY LIPINETS TALKS SPARRING WITH ORTIZ AND HIS FUTURE IN BOXING

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 27, 2016) – Russia’s undefeated super-lightweight prospect, Sergey Lipinets (9-0, 7 KOs), is adapting well to his surrounding here in the United States. Born in Martuk, Kazakhstan but fighting out of Southern California where he now resides, Lipinets is getting great work with top notch fighters, one being Victor Ortiz.

Lipinets spent quality time in camp with Ortiz, helping him get ready for his highly publicized rematch with Andre Berto, taking place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California this Saturday.

“During his training camp for Berto, Victor and I went to war,” said Sergey Lipinets. “Right now I feel Ortiz is fighting at a high level and I feel he’s going to come out on top in the rematch. I gave him some great looks that I know is going to be beneficial to his game plan. Sparring with Ortiz was a great experience for me and I feel confident I can become a world champion in the near future.”

In his last outing Lipinets scored an impressive fifth-round knockout against Levan Ghvamichava (16-2-1, 12 KOs), a 10-round main event that was nationally televised on FOX Sports 1. With only nine fights under his belt, Lipinets is gaining much respect within the boxing community.

“After sparring sessions, coaches often come up to me and give me words of encouragement.” Lipinets continued. “They tell me I have what it takes to become a world champion. The respect I’m getting from the inner circles of the boxing community is very flattering. I know with hard work…all my dreams will come true.”

LIAM WALSH: “I’M DESPERATE FOR A BIG FIGHT WHERE I ENTER AS THE UNDERDOG.”

Cromer action man Liam Walsh re-surfaces to defend his domestic super-featherweight title at The Copper Box on Saturday but there is a consensus within the industry that he is blessed with a talent worthy of several leagues higher, writes Glynn Evans.

Since entering the profession back in February 2008, lionheart Liam has triumphed in all 19 fights (13 early), netted domestic, Commonwealth and Inter-Continental hardware and scalped several quality men such as Paul Appleby, Scott Harrison, Joe Murray (twice) and Gary Sykes.

However, thus far injury and ill-fortune have conspired to hinder his ascent to the major international belts and the man who turns 30 next month is struggling to contain his frustration.

‘I’ll accept any meaningful fight for a decent belt between 130-140 lbs,’ says the man they call ‘Destiny’ who is world rated in both the super-feather (WBA and IBF) and lightweight (WBO) classes.

‘I’m at a stage where I’m desperate for a big fight where I enter as the underdog. That’s when you’re going to see the best of me.

‘I’d love to be able to call myself European champion. (Most recent super-feather champ, Spaniard Juli) Giner recently got battered in a WBC eliminator and I understand has since been stripped. That was a fight I really wanted. Expect there to be a lot of rival stables scrambling after the vacant title!’

Involvement in a December 2012 car crash forced the Norfolk man to forsake a scheduled crack at WBO super-feather king Ricky Burns. And his misery was further compounded last summer when a hand injury curtailed a final eliminator (against Russia’s Andriy Klimov) for Terry Flanagan’s WBO lightweight crown.

And whilst re-cuperating on the couch, stablemate George Jupp was slipped into an (ultimately abortive) challenge for the WBO’s ‘interim’ 130lb strap with Mexico’s Miguel Berchelt over in Yucatan.

‘To be fair, at the time the fight was offered to George, they knew I’d not be ready to fight until mid April following my hand injury,’ says Walsh who has already contested eight 12 round championship fights plus two 10 rounders.

‘And I doubt I’d have agreed to meet a fighter of that calibre at altitude on barely a week’s notice anyway . Mind, I’d 100% have taken it had it been offered to me for this Copper Box show.

‘Berchelt looks very decent, 26 stoppage wins in 30 fights. He’s a guy I’d love to fight. People would expect me to get slaughtered and that’d be right up my street. Cos I’m a bit of an idiot, I genuinely think I can beat everyone!’

And he remains steadfast in his belief that Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren can secure him his long overdue date on the world stage before 2016 is through.

‘There’s some terrific fighters at 130-135lbs right now, and I’m prepared to step into the ring with any of them,’ insists Liam.

‘At lightweight, I’d place (WBC champ Jorge) Linares at the top, closely followed by our own Terry Flanagan who’s not the greatest to watch but a very effective southpaw and extremely hard to beat.

‘Me and (Manchester’s Anthony) Crolla is a great fight but I’d happily fight any of the champions. (IBF king Rances) Barthelemy the Cuban southpaw would be a nightmare – stylewise, he’s last on the list – while Flanagan’s the most realistic to make. But why would he take the risk unless I’m mandatory?

‘I believe ‘Loma’ (double Olympic champion Vasyl Lomachenko) and Nicholas Walters (Jamaica’s WBA feather king) are both moving up to super-feather where probably the best champion is the Jap (WBA boss Takashi Uchiyama) who’s very fast and explosive but seldom leaves home.

‘Then there’s Bob Arum’s Mexican, Francisco Vargas, who recently won the WBC title in a potential Fight of the Year with another Jap (Takashi Miura).

‘I’ve been studying (WBO king) Rocky Martinez for years. He probably best suits me but I’d still have to have the best night I’ve ever had to beat him. However, Burns outboxed him and Mikey Garcia stopped him with body shots…..my department!’

CANELO VS. KHAN UNDERCARD FIGHTERS LOS ANGELES MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

LOS ANGELES (April 26, 2016) – Fighters featured on the Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir “King” Khan undercard today hosted a Los Angeles media workout ahead of their upcoming respective bouts set for Saturday, May 7 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Co-main event fighter Glen “Jersey Boy” Tapia (23-2, 15 KOs), former WBA Interim Super Lightweight World Champion Mauricio “El Maestro” Herrera (22-5, 7 KOs) and undefeated opponent Frankie “Pitbull” Gomez (20-0, 13 KOs) featured on the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard were all in attendance as well as top prospects featured on the non-televised undercard Jason “El Animal” (10-0, 9 KOs) and David Mijares.

Below is what the fighters had to say at today’s Los Angeles media workout:

GLEN “JERSEY BOY” TAPIA, Middleweight Contender:

“This is a big opportunity, we all know what is on the line. I’m so excited.

“I prepare for this fight as I always do – train hard and train smart. I need to train hard for David Lemieux. I need to beat him.

“I know what I can bring to the table. David is fun to watch, but he uses the same style every fight. I’ve watched his last 10 fights. People don’t understand I have a lot of power too. I have a lot of skills to box. All I am thinking about is fighting Lemieux. I don’t want to get ahead of myself.”

MAURICIO “EL MAESTRO” HERRERA, Former WBA Interim Super Light Weight World Champion:

“I’m gonna work on what I’m going to do and not what he [Frankie Gomez] is going to do. I’m going to go out there and be confident and have fun.

“A win over Frankie Gomez would mean a lot. He’s an undefeated prospect that many people are watching.

“I know this is a big opportunity; it’s the first fight at the 20,000 seat T-Mobile Arena and a HBO Pay-Per-View show. When the fight with Lucas Matthysse fell through I told Golden Boy, ‘Keep me on the card, for whomever the opponent ends up being.'”

FRANKIE “PITBULL” GOMEZ, Welterweight Contender:

“I’m 100 percent focused on this fight and ready for May 7.

“I’m training hard to accomplish the things I want.”

JASON “EL ANIMAL” QUIGLEY, Middleweight Prospect:

“Every fight has the same meaning for me because I treat it like a world title fight.

“De La Rosa is another obstacle and hurdle I have to jump over to become a world champion. I’m ready to fight anyone and ready to shine on May 7. This is my chance to blow onto the scene. I have a lot to win and not much to lose.

“De La Rosa is coming off a knockout defeat and he is getting in the ring with a knockout artist, me, on May 7. He’s got to have doubts.

“I’ve never looked for a knock out. On May 7, I know the knockout can come. I just have to look for the opportunity.

“There are a lot of people traveling out from Ireland for this fight. The Irish fans are unbelievable. The way they have supported me has been amazing.”

DAVID MIJARES, Super Lightweight Prospect:

“I started boxing because there was one day I was at my father’s gym and there was a hockey player there that hit the water bag so hard that it fell down to the ground and I thought ‘wow! I want to be able to do that!’

“I’m very excited to make my debut on such a big card. The excitement cancels out the nervousness. I can’t wait to get in there and do my job.”

Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter Press Conference Quotes

Keith Thurman
NEW YORK (April 26, 2016) – Welterweight world champion Keith Thurman and former champion Shawn Porter went face-to-faceTuesday afternoon in Manhattan as they hosted a press conference to discuss their highly anticipated Saturday, June 25 showdown on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on CBS, presented by Premier Boxing Champions live from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Televised coverage begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT with featherweight world champion Jesus Cuellar defending his title against former three-division world champion Abner Mares.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, start at $42, not including applicable fees, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, www.barclayscenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are also available at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center. Group discounts are available by calling 844-BKLYN-GP.

Thurman and Porter went eye-to-eye and talked about their eagerly awaited 147-pound world title clash that takes place in primetime on June 25.

Here is what the participants had to say Tuesday:

KEITH THURMAN

“I made you wait. But it’s worth it. This is a tremendous fight. Arguably the best matchup of the year. We’re going to work our butts off to make it the Fight of the Year.

“Our two teams go way back. This is the most beautiful moment of my professional career and I’m about to compete with somebody I grew up with. I’m happy for my success and I’m happy for Shawn’s success. We come from the same boat. When you’re a young kid in the gym training and then you’re here today, that takes a special kind of person. Shawn and I are both that kind of person.

“We took six weeks off after my accident, with three days a week of physical therapy. I was relaxing at home. I didn’t like it. As a fighter, I wanted this fight as bad as the fans wanted this fight.

“This isn’t just the biggest fight of my career. But it’s the most anticipated fight of my career. Sometimes it pays to add some drama to the game. It wasn’t our intention, but I think it worked out.

“Barclays Center makes this a big fight. We get to promote here in New York City. New York is a fight town. My favorite fighter of all time, Mike Tyson, is from Brooklyn. This just happened to work out for the best.

“I anticipate most of the welterweight division being in attendance on June 25. The situation that division is in right now is that we’re all in a frenzy. Everyone wants the spotlight and everyone wants to be the top dog. We all have that opportunity.

“I want to have two titles by the end of this year. People talk about replacing Floyd Mayweather, but you can’t become the man without beating all the people in front of you. One fight at a time. I want to stay at the top by grabbing another belt. I’m going to show that I’m the big dog at 147 pounds.

“June 25, my friend is about to become my enemy. I’m going to treat him like any other enemy.

“Get your tickets. Get your seats. Get your popcorn. Whatever you need to do. This is going to be a fight you don’t want to miss. This is going to be a knockout you don’t want to miss. I love you Shawn, but I’m doing my best to put you to sleep.”

SHAWN PORTER

“I’m very excited about this fight. I’m blessed to have this opportunity. Not only to go for this title but to be a part of a record-breaking show at Barclays Center. This night is going to be memorable.

“Keith Thurman is bringing out the competitiveness in me to a level I’ve always wanted. It’s a level I expect. I have a guy next to me who is challenging me more than ever. Me and Keith Thurman are going to put on a show. Everything you talked about, you’re going to get it.

“It is amazing to be a part of something great like this. I’ve always considered myself to be a very good fighter and a very good athlete, but I’ve always wanted something like this and to have it is very humbling.

“I wasn’t surprised that Keith said he would knock me out. He has to pump himself up and be confident. When he looked at me I think he was trying to convince me that he was being real and I was looking at him to find out if he was convinced. He thinks he’s going to knock me out, I say he’s not. I’m going to do everything it takes to beat him and make it look easy.

“This is forming to be a big fight, one of those fights that we’ve looked forward to since we were kids.

“This is my second time fighting at Barclays Center. I’m 1-0 with a championship so now I’m looking for another one. I’ve been to some of the other fights at Barclays too and it is really an electric atmosphere. People are coming out to see something great and that’s what I’m going to give them.

“I’m not changing anything in camp because of how familiar Keith and I are with each other. I have to do it at the right time in the ring. We’re going to do everything we do to prepare for a world championship fight.

“Thurman is a little unorthodox at times so we’re prepared for that. It’s about going 12 rounds or less and looking good doing it. We’ve done a little sparring as pros but nothing as competitive as I’m expecting on June 25.

“I have a feeling Keith is going to say he’s knocking me out a lot. I want to know if he believes that. He’s a cutthroat kind of fighter. I know that. The hands will be up, the defense will be taken care of, and we’re taking care of business.”

DAN BIRMINGHAM, Thurman’s Trainer

“We’re looking forward to this fight. Me, Keith and the Porters go way back, but sometimes you have to fight your friends.

“These two guys are both at the top of their games and the best man is going to win.”

KEN PORTER, Porter’s Father & Trainer

“Dan Birmingham is actually one of my mentors and I’ve been watching Keith since he was 14-years-old. We’re all friends but to have the opportunity on this stage, I don’t think we can have better competitors as fighter and trainer. I don’t think it can reach a higher level.

“I fully expect the immovable object versus the irresistible force meeting in the ring for an explosion on June 25.”

LOU DIBELLA, President of DiBella Entertainment

“This is the best that boxing has to offer.

“Keith Thurman vs. Shawn Porter could very well be the Fight of the Year. It’s a fan fight that everybody has anticipated for many years. These are the two most established welterweights in the world battling to see who the successor to Floyd Mayweather’s domination of the division is.

“This is so far the fastest-selling boxing event at Barclays Center and the biggest presale we’ve ever had for a fight at Barclays Center. This is one to start buying your tickets early.

“Aside from being two of the very best at their weight class, these are two of the more interesting guys in boxing. These are two of the smartest and most cerebral fighters.

“This is why I’m in boxing. This is why we’re all in boxing. This is on national, free, over-the-air television and I think it’s great. WE want as many people as possible to watch this fight. We want to expose people to the best our sport has to offer.

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, Executive Vice President & General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports

“We’re in the midst of perhaps the strongest run of boxing this network has ever had. While other networks cut back on programming, we are reinvesting in the sport and giving it as big of a platform as there ever has been.

“We have the strongest lineup of any network this year. These are two of the strongest fighters in the most popular division in the sport.

“The last primetime boxing match on CBS was 1987, Ali-Spinks 1. Those are big shoes to fill. When I pitched a fight for CBS I knew I had to bring something that was incredibly strong. That is what we have on June 25. This card has come together as perfectly as anyone could have imagined.

“Two of the top five welterweights of their career battling for the top of the division. This is an event that speaks for itself. I’m proud to be involved with this event.”

BRETT YORMARK, CEO of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment

“It’s been a special time at Barclays Center the last couple of weeks. I think Barclays Center is defined by dramatic moments. When I think of this particular event, it’s going to be a dramatic moment in Brooklyn and I’m thrilled about it.

“I’m a huge boxing fan and this is one of those nights that you circle on the calendar. You need to be there. We’re off to the best pre-sale and on sale since we opened Barclays Center. We have a bit of a history already and this will be the biggest one yet.”

TECATE COMES OUT SWINGING WITH IMMERSIVE DIGITAL ACTIVATIONS A WEEK AHEAD OF GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS’ CANELO VS. KHAN FIGHT WEEK

NEW YORK (April 26, 2016) – With less than a week to go before the Canelo vs. Khan Fight Week in Las Vegas officially begins on Monday, May 2, Tecate, the fight’s presenting and exclusive beer sponsor, is launching several digital activations to bring fans 21+ closer to the May 7 international mega fight. Canelo Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) is set to face former two-time world champion, Amir “King” Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) in an action-packed event at the new-state-of-the-art T-Mobile Arena produced and distributed by HBO Pay-Per-View®.

In February, Tecate, Golden Boy Promotions and boxing’s biggest star, current WBC, RING Magazine and Lineal Middleweight Champion Canelo Alvarez, announced they were partnering and would feature the prizefighter in the brand’s upcoming national English and Spanish advertising broadcast campaign which debuted on April 11.

Today, Tecate and Golden Boy Promotions are releasing the free Bold Punch iOS app which integrates fans 21+ into all the fight week activities starting on Monday, May 2 via live streams and virtually in the ring during fight night. The knockout app, demonstrated here by the Tecate Chicas, features five unique types of content for fight fans including, for the first time ever, the ability to feel one of Canelo’s power punches:

* Punches – Don’t just see the punches, feel them. Every time Canelo lands a bold punch, your phone will vibrate to reflect the bold intensity of the match.
* Behind-the-scenes-video – Live streams and exclusive pre-fight locker room content.
* See Fight – All of the ways to see the fight – from where to buy tickets to how to watch the fight live on HBO or in theaters via Fathom Events.
* Tecate – Check out the latest national television campaign featuring Canelo Alvarez and the brand’s iconic black eagle.
* Fighters – A quick tale of the tape that highlights the fighters’ important stats ahead of the fight.

“Tecate is synonymous with both legendary fights, and the experiences we create for consumers surrounding our partnerships,” said Felix Palau, Vice President of Tecate Brand Marketing. “Unlike past physical activations, our goal here is to leverage Canelo’s international star power, creating digital experiences that can be felt by the masses – whether you’re heading to Vegas or planning to enjoy the fight at home with friends.”

Starting Wednesday, April 27, Tecate is launching a dedicated Twitter promotion giving fans 21+ the opportunity to win their very own version of the WBC world championship belt by following @Tecate and clicking the button “#BoldestBeltSweeps” from the brand’s latest tweet featuring Canelo. By entering, users are agreeing to the promotion’s terms and conditions and a tweet is automatically generated, alerting their followers that they want to win the #BoldestBeltSweeps. Five winners will be announced by the Tecate Chicas through the brand’s Twitter live stream on Friday, May 6 before the fight’s 2:30 pm PDT weigh-in.

Additionally, Tecate is offering fight fans one more way to get closer to the match through a simple text-to-win sweepstakes. More than 150,000 have already entered for a chance to win four tickets to the fight plus a VIP boxing experience and other branded prizes since the sweepstakes opened seven weeks ago. The sweepstakes will close on April 30.

To date, Tecate’s promotion of Canelo vs. Khan includes a national English and Spanish advertising broadcast campaign featuring Canelo in ‘Flashy’; the popular, national, no purchase necessary mail-in-rebate program; extensive media buys across Las Vegas from bus and building wraps to digital billboards; an aggressive national retail program across 6,000+ stores; and will be prominently featured on Canelo’s trunks and at the center ring, around the mat and throughout the arena.
