BROADWAY BOXING HEADS “BACK TO THE ‘BURBS”

New York, NY (4/12/15) – Next Wednesday, DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing series heads back north to the suburbs of Westchester County for the third time in a little over a year. The exciting eight-bout card is scheduled to take place at the beautiful Hilton Westchester in Rye Brook, NY. Headlining the event will be Westchester’s popular junior lightweight prospect Bryant “Peewee” Cruz (16-1, 8KO’s). Also on the card will be the highly regarded undefeated cruiserweight Stivens Bujaj (14-0-1, 9KO’s). Both bouts are scheduled for eight rounds.

The bout on April 20th will be Cruz’ first since suffering his lone loss as a professional, back in December of last year. In Cruz’ ShoBox debut, he took on late replacement Dardan Zenunaj, a once-beaten, world-rated contender. Cruz got off to a very quick start, setting an extremely high pace, and sweeping all of the early rounds. The hard-charging Zenunaj kept the pressure on all night long though, and the bout turned into a war during the middle rounds. After dropping Cruz with a barrage of punches near the end of the seventh, Cruz’ corner elected to halt the contest between frames. Cruz took the fight as a learning experience and is looking to get back to his winning ways behind a hometown partisan crowd when he steps into the ring next Wednesday night.

Born in Albania, Bujaj relocated to Bronx, NY, at an early age. One of the more popular fighters throughout the local New York fight scene, Bujaj, who just recently relocated to nearby Yonkers, NY, was a two-time NY Golden Gloves champion before successfully turning pro in 2010. The lone blemish on Bujaj’s record is a split decision draw to fellow contender and recent IBO world title challenger Junior Wright in May 2015. During the bout with Wright, Bujaj suffered a broken jaw. He has since reeled off back-to-back victories following surgery to repair his jaw, and is determined to impress as he continues his ascent up the rankings of the cruiserweight division.

There are a number of other exciting bouts on the card, including world-rated contender Billel Dib (18-1) making his U.S. debut, and red-hot undefeated prospect Alantez Fox (18-0-1) in separate eight-round bouts. Also on the card will be former Irish National champion Noel Murphy (5-0), now living and training in Yonkers, NY, as well as fellow undefeated New Yorkers Wessley Ferrer (10-0), Joseph Williams (8-0) and Andy Meijas (15-0).

A complete list of the card, including opponents will be announced shortly.

Tickets are priced at $125, $75 and $55, and are currently on sale through the DiBella Entertainment office by calling (212) 947-2577. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the first bout scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Hilton Westchester is located at 699 Westchester Avenue, Rye Brook, NY 10573.

2012 U.S. Olympians Errol Spence Jr. & Marcus Browne Reflect On Olympic Experience Heading Into Premier Boxing Champions on NBC Showdowns Taking Place Saturday, April 16 From Barclays Center In Brooklyn

Errol Spence
BROOKLYN (April 12, 2016) – Undefeated rising stars Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. and “Sir” Marcus Browne started out as teammates on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team and will face the toughest tests of their careers when they enter the ring in primetime on Premier Boxing Champions on NBC Saturday, April 16 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The rising welterweight Spence Jr. will take on former world champion Chris Algieri in the main event while Browne kicks-off televised coverage at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT when he takes on unbeaten Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Star Boxing, start at $25, not including applicable fees, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, www.barclayscenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are also available at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center. Group discounts are available by calling 844-BKLYN-GP.

With the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio nearing the opening ceremonies, it is poetic that both Spence Jr. and Browne will have the opportunity to launch themselves into the upper echelon of the sport as a new generation of rising stars get set to test themselves against the best in the world at the Olympics.

Here is what the fighters had to say about their Olympic experiences, fighting on the same card, advice to the 2016 team and more:

On fighting in televised fights on the same card:

Errol Spence Jr.: “My pro debut was on the ‘Night of the Olympians’ and it had me, Terrell Gausha, Marcus Browne, and Rau’Shee Warren. These are the kind of nights we envisioned. It’s so great to see my friends and Olympic brothers doing as well as me.

Marcus Browne: “We always thought about nights like these where we’re both center stage. This couldn’t have happened if we didn’t keep our records clean and fought hard. To have gotten to this point alongside an Olympic teammate is an amazing thing. I look forward to both of us being propelled to the next level.”

On their favorite Olympic memories:

ES: “My favorite memory is competing and being around all of the great athletes. I got to meet Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Serena Williams and Michael Phelps. All of these athletes that I had seen on TV. Being in that atmosphere helped me realize that I am a great athlete amongst other great athletes.

MB: “It sounds materialistic, but all the free gear we got was amazing. Coming where I come from, I had never been given anything like that before. I was surprised at the adoration I was getting from people. Everyone just wanted to make us feel a part of this unbelievable event.

On how the Olympics prepared them for the pros:

ES: “The Olympic stage prepares you for anything. It’s the biggest tournament in the world. Having media day and talking to all of those outlets and then having to train, it prepares you for the professional ranks. When you get to the top, you’re going to have to do those exact same things.

MB: “Fighting in front of 10,000 people that are cheering against you will prepare you for anything in this sports. A lot of people don’t get that until they’re at the highest level. The atmosphere is just so intense and the Olympic fans are so passionate.

On the bond they share with their Olympic teammates:

ES: “All of us on the team have a great bond. Anytime you spend four months in camp with the same group of guys and you’re training and losing weight together, you become very close. It automatically creates a natural bond and connection. They are like brothers to me.

MB: “There is always going to be that bond of brotherhood regardless if you talk everyday or every three years. Spending every waking moment with these guys and singing the ‘Star Spangled Banner’ every morning, we build up a group bond and individual friendships that are so important to us.

On their impressions of the other:

ES: “Marcus was always the loud one in the Olympic training center. Marcus was always encouraging everyone to work hard and train harder. I want to be like Evander Holyfield. He and his Olympic teammates like Pernell Whitaker all held belts at the same time.

MB: “Errol and I are kind of opposites. Errol is more of a quiet and reserved guy. He works hard and runs like a gazelle. He fights hard and at the end of the day he is just a good dude. The plan is for all of us to be world champions and do great things.

On their advice to the 2016 U.S. Olympic team:

ES: “I would tell the 2016 team to just keep doing what they’re doing. Stay focused. Don’t get too big headed. Listen to your coaches and do everything you’ve been doing. The Olympics are right around the corner and we want to see medals in the men’s division this year.”

MB: “I just want to tell the team to make sure you get all the international experience you can get and fight hard for your country.”

DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT AND FIGHT PROMOTIONS INC. SIGN RUSSIAN PRODIGY RADZHAB BUTAEV

BROOKLYN (April 12, 2016) – The stacked undercard on Saturday, April 16, at Barclays Center, in Brooklyn, will also be featuring the New York debut of Russian welterweight prospect Radzhab “The Python” Butaev (1-0, 1 KO), newly signed to co-promoters DiBella Entertainment and Fight Promotions Inc. Doors open on Saturday at 5:00pm, with the evening’s first bout scheduled shortly thereafter.

The April 16 Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on NBC tripleheader is headlined by undefeated rising star Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. taking on former world champion Chris Algieri. Televised coverage begins at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT and will see cruiserweight world champion Krzysztof Glowacki defending his title against former cruiserweight champion Steve “U.S.S.” Cunningham, and undefeated 2012 U.S. Olympian “Sir” Marcus Browne battling fellow unbeaten Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic.

When Butaev steps through the ropes at Barclays Center, he will be facing the experienced 6-1 (4 KOs) TyKeem Sadler, whose only loss came via split decision, in a six-round welterweight contest, so fans in attendance can be sure to expect explosive action.

The 23-year-old Butaev was a highly accomplished amateur, having compiled an incredible 304-12 record, with 164 of those wins coming by knockout. He participated in the World Series of Boxing as well, finishing at 9-1. He could have gone on to vie for a berth at the 2016 Olympics, but instead chose to turn pro in the United States for better opportunities.

Born in the Khasavyur, Dagestan region of Russia, Butaev competed in wrestling as a child before following in his older brother’s footsteps and beginning his boxing journey at the tender age of 10 years old. As an amateur, among many other awards, Butaev was the 2011 Junior European champion, 2013 World Universiade champion and 2014 Russian National champion. He also focused on his education during his time as an amateur and has earned two bachelor degrees in Law and Physical Sciences.

An aggressive boxer-puncher, Butaev successfully turned pro on March 25 with a 79-second demolition of his opponent at the Buffalo Run Casino, in Miami, OK. He currently travels back and forth between Russia and New York, training with the renowned Eduard Kravtsov, who also works with the Russian National boxing team. However, Butaev soon plans to make Brooklyn his permanent home and is looking forward to fighting in New York for the first time on Saturday.

“Though I could have competed in the Olympics, I felt that my career really wouldn’t excel until I turned pro in the United States,” said Butaev. “I know that I am in good hands with DiBella Entertainment and Fight Promotions Inc., who have developed the careers of many of my countrymen and contemporaries whom I knew well in the amateurs. I am excited to demonstrate my skills in front of an American audience in Brooklyn. On April 16 and beyond, they can expect great things from me.”

“Russia and Ukraine have been producing a tremendous amount of talent of late and I am thrilled to be able to introduce and establish Radzhab Butaev as one of the premier Russian prospects to the United States’ boxing public,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Butaev has unlimited potential and I will work hard to build a path for him toward a world championship. His road to a world title will not be traditional; he is far more advanced than the average up-and-comer. His bout on Saturday will get Brooklyn fans cheering and proud to have this future champion as an adopted resident of their great borough.”

“Butaev is still only 23 years old, but he already has a wealth of experience that will help to accelerate his progress as he embarks on his professional career,” said Max Alperovich, of Fight Promotions Inc. “I know that together with Lou DiBella, we will bring Butaev the best opportunities to make a name for himself among the elite of the welterweight division.”

Tickets for the live event on April 16, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Star Boxing, start at $25, not including applicable fees, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, www.barclayscenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. WSOF31: IVANOV VS. COPELAND MAIN CARD COMPLETE WITH ADDITION OF THREE NEW, STAR-STUDDED MATCHUPS

LAS VEGAS (April 12, 2016) –World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) today announced the addition of three star-studded matchups to complete the main card for its WSOF31: Ivanov vs. Copeland world heavyweight championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event, live on NBCSN at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. from Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. on Friday, June 17.

In a second heavyweight matchup, dynamic, rising star Chris “Huggy Bear” Barnett (14-2) will make his World Series of Fighting debut against Team AKA prodigy Justin Willis (4-1).

Also stepping in the decagon cage for the first time, battle-tested warrior John “Doomsday” Howard (23-12) will collide with submission expert Thiago “Minu” Meller (20-7) in a welterweight (170 pounds) affair.

In a featherweight (145 pounds) scrap between two prolific strikers, Luis “Baboon” Palomino (24-12) will face off with former world championship challenger Sheymon Moraes (8-1).

In the main event, reigning world heavyweight champion Blagoy Ivanov (13-1) will risk his title against Josh “Cuddly Bear” Copeland (13-1) while, in the lightweight (155 pounds) co-main event, superstars Jason “The Kansas City Bandit” High (19-5) and Mike “The Martian” Ricci (11-4) will square off with their division’s number one contender ranking at stake.

Chris Barnett vs. Justin Willis

After spending the last year and a half making waves in Japan, the 5-foot-9, 29-year-old Barnett of Tampa, Fla. will suit up as “Huggy Bear,” and make his way onto a major stage in the U.S. for the first time in his career.

With heavy hands and tremendous agility for a fighter of his massive stature, Barnett has notched 12 of his 14 career victories by way of (T)KO, and has celebrated his wins in flamboyant fashion, with everything from cartwheels to breakdancing to hand stands.

Like Barnett, the stocky, 6-foot-3, 28-year-old Willis, a training partner of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) greats Cain Velasquez and Daniel Cormier, has been enjoying success in Japan under the promotion of Inoki Genome Federation (IFG).

Willis will make his first start of 2016, and look to extend his win streak to four consecutive bouts. In his last effort on August 29, he earned a unanimous decision over Rizvan Kuniev in Tokyo.

Luis Palomino vs. Sheymon Moraes

The 5-foot-8, 35-year-old Palomino of Miami, Fla. via Lima, Peru is coming off an epic year in which he engaged in two, all-out wars with reigning, undefeated World Series of Fighting lightweight champion Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje, both of which earned “Fight of the Month” honors.

After closing out 2015 with a gutsy appearance in World Series of Fighting’s first-ever, one-night, eight-man tournament in which he scored a devastating, first round (4:55) TKO (punches) on Rich Patishnock in the event’s quarterfinal stage, before being stopped in the semifinal stage of battle via second round (4:19) TKO (punches) at the hands of eventual tournament winner Brian Foster, Palomino will return to the featherweight division where he has held two world titles.

The 5-foot-8, 25-year-old Moraes of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil returned to form in his last bout, decimating fellow knockout artist Robbie “Problems” Peralta by way of TKO (punches) in the second round (3:21) of their matchup at WSOF26.

A seasoned Muay Thai stylist, Moraes ran to seven straight victories in his first seven starts as a professional MMA competitor before being handed his first career defeat by way of third round (3:46) submission (rear-naked choke) in a title bid against reigning bantamweight (135 pounds) champion Marlon Moraes.

John Howard vs. Thiago Meller

Following his second stint with the UFC that spanned seven bouts and included victories over Uriah Hall, Siyar Bahadurzada and Cathal Pendred, the 5-foot-7, 33-year-old Howard of Boston, Mass. will aim to rebound from a second round (:21) KO (punches) loss to Tim Means on December 10.

To date, Howard has notched 15 of his 23 career victories by way of (T)KO or submission. During his initial run with the UFC between January 2009 and June 2011, Howard scored a memorable, third round (4:55) KO (punches) on submission ace Dennis “Superman” Hallman on December 5, 2009, marking his third consecutive conquest in the league.

Meller of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande Do Sul, Brazil will look to collect his second win in a row, following his first round submission (rear-naked choke) of Leonardo Rodriguez on June 26, 2015.

The 5-foot-10, 33-year-old Meller, a near 13-year veteran of the sport, has emerged victorious in 14 of his 20 career wins, by way of submission.

The preliminary bout card lineup for WSOF31: Ivanov vs. Copeland will be announced soon.

Priced from $39.99, tickets for the event are on sale at WSOF.com and Foxwoods.com.

Doors at The Grand Theatre at Foxwoods Resort Casino will open for WSOF31: Ivanov vs. Copeland, at 5 p.m. ET, and the first preliminary card bout will begin at 6 p.m.

Quintero is fired up to fight Petr Petrov this May for his chance to add the NABA Lightweight Title to his collection.

With 36 victories under his belt, lightweight contender Petr “Zar” Petrov holds an impressive boxing resume including winner of ESPN’s 2014 Boxcino tournament. Petrov was last seen in the ring on April 2015 taking on former world champion Gamaliel “Platano” Diaz winning the NABO and NABA Lightweight Titles via unanimous decision. A former sparring partner for world champion Canelo Alvares and coming off a five win streak over Jorge “Pantera” Silva, Jorge “Zurdo” Ramirez Jr., Ed “The Lion” Paredes, and Carlos “Kalimba” Lozano, Sanchez is hoping to secure his first title when he takes on Pablo Cesar Cano for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Welterweight Title.

Last November, Guadalajara, Mexico’s Horacio “Violento” Garcia brought every bit of his power and punch when he took down distinguished fighter Raul “Bule” Hidalgo at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Café as he fought during the weekend of Cotto vs. Canelo. As the current title holder for the WBC Continental Americas Super Bantamweight Title, “Violento” is ready to take on any opponent willing to step up in the ring to face him Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Oscar “Ratón” Cortes, the 27-year-old native of Zapopan, Mexico, will bring his experience to the ring on May 6, with victories over well-known fighters such as Alejandro “Zorrito” Barrera and Alexander Monterrosa. Always swift in the ring, Glendora, CA’s Joet Gonzalez has so far taken on the likes of Marcos “No Money” Rios, Miguel “Yaqui” Tamayo, and Jose Angel “Pepe” Beranza in his hopeful boxing career. After his latest knockout last November at LA FIGHT CLUB, this undefeated fighter is using all of his power to maintain his undefeated status, opening up the Cinco de Mayo weekend festivities against Ricardo Proano of Chihuahua, Mexico on May 6.

Chihuahua, Mexico’s own Ricardo “Cepillo” Proaño will be making his first appearance in Las Vegas on May 6. Having previously fought for the WBC FECOMBOX Super Featherweight Title in 2012, Proano will be looking to use that experience against the rising featherweight star Joet Gonzalez. A professional since 2011, he has taken on tough opposition in Edgar “Lic” Martinez, Cesar Alan Valenzula and Francisco “Panchito El Centenario” De Vaca. On May 6, Proano will look to start off 2016 in the winner’s column.

Newly signed with Golden Boy Promotions, 20-year-old southpaw standout, Alexis Rocha of Santa Ana, CA will make his debut in the “Fighting Capital of The World” on May 6. SINGH FACES CRUCIAL COPPER BOX TEST AGAINST ROYER

Vinjander Singh
Indian boxing sensation Vijinder Singh faces the toughest test of his four fight career when he takes on experienced Frenchman Matiouze Royer on on Saturday 30 April at the Copper Box Arena, exclusively live on BoxNation.

Indian superstar Singh has made an explosive start to life in the paid ranks by blowing away his first four opponents inside three rounds. Royer, 29, is Singh’s most experienced opponent to date and will proved a stern test for the big-hitting Indian.

The 6ft terror from Bayonne in South West France is a veteran of 44 fights with 14 KO’s and has tested himself against top super-middleweight talent including WBO European Champion Jamie Cox who he lost out to on points back in 2013.

Tattooed warrior Royer from France has racked up 250 gruelling rounds under his belt compared to Singh’s nine and has no fear fighting abroad taking bouts in Spain, Italy and Finland.

Royer has only been stopped twice in a career spanning over seven years and will be looking to spoil the party when he makes his second appearance on UK soil. Singh, 30, knows it is crucial that he wins at the Copper Box Arena and then again at Bolton in May before setting his eyes on a huge Indian homecoming in June.

Undefeated Singh claimed his fourth professional win at the Liverpool Echo Arena last month with a blistering fourth round stoppage of Hungarian Alexander Horvath. The Indian knockout merchant ended the contest in the third round with a crippling body shot and will be looking to claim another big KO win at the Copper Box Arena.

An excited Singh said: “I’m thrilled to be fighting on the same card as the WBO World Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders. Saunders is in the position that I want to be in one day, the middleweight champion of the world. It will be my first time fighting in the capital of England and I can’t wait to show the people of London my explosive power.”

He added: “2016 is shaping up to be a massive year for me. I have a busy few months ahead of me and will be looking to carry on my KO streak with another big performance against Royer. He’s an experienced fighter so I’ll need to be at my very best to overcome him. Once I’ve dealt with him I’ll be looking ahead to my next date in Bolton before gearing up for my massive homecoming in India this summer.”

Demetrius Andrade vs. Willie Nelson WBC Super Welterweight Title Eliminator Added to SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING® on June 11

Andrade Pucheta weigh in 3
NEW YORK (April 11, 2016) – An outstanding super welterweight clash has been added to SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on Saturday, June 11 as undefeated, former WBO Junior Middleweight Champion Demetrius Andrade will face hard-hitting perennial contender Willie Nelson in a WBC Super Welterweight Title Eliminator. The winner of the 12-round co-feature will become the mandatory challenger to the winner of the May 21 showdown between Jermell Charlo and John Jackson, who face off for the vacant WBC 154-pound title on SHOWTIME.

Andrade vs. Nelson will serve as the chief support to the all-action matchup between former junior middleweight world champion Ruslan Provodnikov and former world title challenger John Molina Jr., live on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT) from Turning Stone Casino in Verona, New York. Andrade vs. Nelson is a co-promotion with Banner Promotions, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and DiBella Entertainment

In the opening bout of the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader during International Boxing Hall of Fame weekend, WBC No. 1-ranked lightweight Dejan Zlaticanin will take on No. 2-ranked Emiliano Marsili for the vacant WBC Lightweight World Championship.

Fighting out of his native Providence, R.I., the 28-year-old Andrade has compiled an unblemished record of 22-0 with 15 knockouts since turning professional in 2008 after representing the United States in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China.

A crafty southpaw with a piston-like jab and knockout power in each hand, Andrade won the vacant WBO Junior Middleweight World Championship with a career-best performance over Vanes Martirosyan on November 9, 2013 and successfully defended the title against No. 1-ranked mandatory challenger Brian Rose on June 14, 2014. Most recently Andrade, who is a consensus top-5 super welterweight, scored a second-round knockout over Dario Fabian Pucheta on October 17, 2015.

A true road warrior who is extremely tall for a junior middleweight at 6-foot-3, Nelson (25-2-1, 15 KO’s) has faced and defeated numerous top contenders over his 10-year career. Fighting only once in 2015, the Cleveland native upset highly regarded and undefeated junior middleweight prospect Tony Harrison with a ninth-round knockout on July 11 in Tampa, Florida. In his first start of 2016, Nelson stopped Jonathan Batista in the second round on March 25.

Other notable names the all-action Nelson has defeated include John Jackson, Luciano Cuello, Michael Medina and Yudel Jackson. On October 14, 2014, Nelson came up just short against Martirosyan, losing a hotly contested 10-round decision on SHOWTIME.

The southpaw Zlaticanin (17-0, 10 KOs) was an accomplished amateur in Eastern Europe before making a statement in his U.S. debut with an impressive fourth-round TKO of previously undefeated Ivan Redkach in a 135-pound title eliminator last June 13 on SHOWTIME.

Two bouts prior to the win over Redkach, Dejan (pronounced “DAY-han) Zlaticanin (silent “z” – pronounced “la-ti-CAH-nin) earned a well-deserved 12-round split decision over hometown favorite and former two-division world champion Ricky Burns in 2014.

The 31-year-old Zlaticanin is an offensive-minded fighter who constantly pressures his opponents, outworks them and wears them down. Zlaticanin, of the Southeastern European country of Montenegro, will be making his first start in nearly 12 months.

The win over Redkach last June earned Redkach the WBC’s mandatory position at 135 pounds. He was scheduled to face WBC Champion Jorge Linares in early 2016, but Linares pulled out of the bout with a broken hand. Due to the injury, the WBC has since named Linares their champion in recess, creating the opportunity for the vacant title shot.

The Italian Marsili (32-0-1, 14 KOs) will make his 2016, U.S. and SHOWTIME debut. The undefeated southpaw has fought all but one of his professional fights in Italy, the lone exception a 2012 TKO of veteran contender Derry Matthews in Britain.

The 39-year old fought twice in 2015, a seventh-round TKO of Gyorgy Mizsei Jr., for the European lightweight belt and a 12-round unanimous decision over Gamaliel Diaz for the WBC’s 135-pound silver title.

Star Boxing’s Joe Smith, Jr. Ready to Take Next Step in Light Heavyweight Ranks “Irish Bomber” in Main Event on April 23 @ The Paramount on Joe DeGuardia’s Rockin’ Fights

New York, April 11 – Star Boxing’s Joe Smith, Jr. (20-1, 16 KOs) looks to continue his climb up the light heavyweight ladder when he faces tough and dangerous Brazilian Fabiano Pena (16-4-1, 12 KOs) in the main event in the 23rd installment of Star Boxing’s Rockin’ Fights series on Saturday night, April 23, at the Paramount in Huntington, New York.

Dubbed the “Irish Bomber” because of his knockout power, Smith is highly-regarded among the light heavyweight prospects during a young career guided by promoter Joe DeGuardia. The local hero, fighting out of Mastic, will be making his fourth appearance on his home turf at The Paramount.

Smith, Jr. has reeled off 14 straight triumphs, including nine by way of KO. In his latest win, the Irish Bomber scored a thrilling, unanimous 10-round decision over Will Rosinsky, while showcasing his talents in the Barclays Center ring on December 5.

The native of Mastic is a Union 66 laborer (concrete) in between fights. Trained by Gerard Capobianco, a former light heavyweight contender himself, Smith fights out of the Heavyhitters Boxing Gymon Long Island.
“Joe has all of the tools to be a top light heavyweight,” says DeGuardia. “His power and strength, combined with boxing skills and stamina have him earmarked for a big fight.”

The co-featured attraction is a “Long Island Showdown” when two popular Paramount regulars – Alan Gotay (8-2, 4 KOs) and Anthony Karperis (11-2, 4 KOs)- clash for the New York State Junior Welterweight Championship. Gotay hails from Huntington, while Kaperis is a product of Hicksville, so it will be a true “Battle for Backyard Bragging Rights.”
Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens, Long Island and New Jersey fighters will enter the ring in four other bouts to complete the action-packed card. In an eight-round junior welterweight contest, Daniel Gonzalez (10-0-1, 4 KOs) of Woodhaven faces Carlos Aguiliera (10-16, 4 KOs) of Nicaragua.
The “Battle of the Boroughs” will pit Brooklyn’s Courtney Pennington (8-3-1, 4 KOs) against Shawn Cameron (10-1, 5 KOs) of The Bronx in a six-round junior middleweight bout.

Two four-round fights complete the card: Elmont’s Terrell Bostic (1-0, 1 KO) squares off against Abdel Vera (0-2) of Patterson, NJ, in a junior welterweight bout, while Michael Stoute (1-0), fighting out of Coram, New York, takes on Newark, NJ’s Jonel Lorenzo in his pro debut in a junior featherweight contest.

Rounding out the action are a pair of prospects making their pro debuts as Providence’s Anthony Marsella Jr. fights in a four-round junior welterweight match and Connecticut’s Mykquan Williams in a four-round welterweight contest. Williams is a highly touted local prospect who fought to a 45-13 amateur record including three gold medal performances at the Ringside World Tournament.

A former world champion at light heavyweight, Dawson returns to the ring looking for the 34th victory of his successful career. The 33-year-old owns victories over former world champions Bernard Hopkins, Antonio Tarver and Tomasz Ademek and most recently defeated Shujaa El Amin in December 2015. The veteran owns a 17-1 record in fights in his home state of Connecticut. He takes on the veteran White out of Houston who picked up victories in his last two starts over Marcus Oliveira and William Johnson.

A runner-up in the 2008 National Golden Glove tournament, the 25-year-old Kielczweski has become a staple fighting in his native New England. Born and raised in Quincy, Mass., he bounced back from his first defeat to deliver a first-round knockout over Anthony Napunyi in May 2015 and followed that up with a victory over veteran contender Rafael Vazquez in October of last year. During this camp, Kielczweski served as a chief sparring partner of the 126-pound champion Russell Jr.

Bay State debut another example of CES MMA’s continuous growth

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 11th, 2016) — The world’s fastest-growing mixed martial arts promotion is six days away from debuting in a new state, opening new doors for a new crop of fighters hoping their careers travel the same path as some of their more well-known predecessors.

CES MMA makes its Massachusetts debut Saturday, April 16th, 2016 at the historic North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Mass., with “CES MMA 35,” sponsored by Foxwoods Resort Casino, an exciting pro-am event featuring 12 total bouts, seven on the pro side and an additional five amateur bouts with each fighter competing for a promotional contract.

Debuting in September of 2010, the Rhode-Island based promotion hosted 31 of its first 34 events at the Twin River Event Center, which has since become its home base. During that span, the company has expanded into Connecticut, hosting three events at Foxwoods, gained worldwide exposure through its broadcast partnership with AXS TV, and played a key role in helping several fighters pave their road to the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC).

Expansion beyond Rhode Island and Connecticut was only a matter of time, and with the promotion’s momentum continuing to build following nine nationally televised events over the past year and a half, the timing for a Massachusetts debut couldn’t be better.

With a capacity of 1,800, the North Shore Music Theatre provides the perfect backdrop; the historic venue is well for hosting many award-winning musicals and celebrity concerts over the past six decades since it first opened its doors in 1955 and remains the largest operating regional theater in New England under the new ownership of Bill Hanney.

“For a number of years we have discussed bringing the show to Massachusetts,” CES vice president Jimmy Burchfield Jr. said. “With all the incredible talent in this region, the most difficult challenge was finding the right venue partner. The North Shore Music Theatre is it. This special Saturday night event will showcase some of the most exciting fighters in the region.

“Come witness what everyone is talking about. CES MMA: The gateway to the UFC!”

“Our team is the best in combat sports,” added CES president and longtime boxing promoter Jimmy Burchfield Sr. “We were the first promoters to bring mixed martial arts to Rhode Island and now we’re proud to bring our brand to Massachusetts. It’s been a long time coming.

“Massachusetts fighters are among the best in the sport, a rich tradition that includes local legends such as Jorge Rivera, Kenny Florian and John “Doomsday” Howard, and the fans are incredibly loyal. This is just the beginning for CES MMA. Our company has grown exponentially over the past two years and I guarantee we’ll continue to expand both in New England and beyond.”

“CES MMA 35” is headlined by the return of Gloucester, Mass., Pedro Gonzalez (10-5, 9 KOs), who ends a two-year layoff against Boston’s Andres Jeudi (7-5, 3 KOs) in the main event, in addition to the third and final installment of the regional trilogy between North Attleboro, Mass., heavyweight Tyler King (9-4, 3 KOs) and Providence’s Eric Bedard (6-6, 4 KOs).

The event will also feature a special ceremony honoring Massachusetts pros Charles Rosa and Rob Font, both of whom starred with CES MMA before getting the call from the UFC.

Rosa, a Peabody, Mass., native, debuted with the UFC in October of 2014 and has since won twice, beating fellow CES MMA alumni Sean Soriano and Kyle Bochniak. A Tampa, Fla., native who eventually relocated to Boston, Font is 2-0 under the UFC banner, including a win over another CES alum, Joey Gomez, and returns to the cage in May on the undercard of UFC 198.

Thanks in large part to their success on the regional circuit, Rosa and Font are among CES MMA’s notable alumni to advance to the UFC, a list that also includes Soriano, Bockniak, Gomez, Tateki Matsuda and Dominique Steele.

“I fought and had to do all the training and that stuff on my own and travel all around the world to get the best training, from [Floyd] Mayweather’s boxing gym in Vegas all the way to Holland to work on my kickboxing, but [CES MMA] helped me get to the UFC,” Rosa said.

“They helped build me and gave me that feeling of being comfortable knowing my opponent wasn’t going to change or they’re going to pull some crazy thing last minute. They always got me the right opponent at the right time and the fact their fights are on TV, sometimes you can fight and nobody sees you, but being put on AXS TV and being on the highlights, they have all the right people around you that can get you to where you want to get to.”

In addition to creating ample opportunities with its annual Twin River Casino Fight Series, which includes five to six events per year, CES MMA also fosters a comfortable, family-like work environment for its fighters, spearheaded by the grassroots promotion of the Burchfields and matchmaker / director Pat Sullivan.

“They’re standup, good businessmen and they’re good people, too,” Rosa said. “A lot of promoters can be scumbags. They lie and they do things, but the thing about Pat Sullivan and the Burchfields, they’re always honest, good people and they always look out for the fighters’ best interest, which is very rare in this sport. They’re not always trying to make a buck.

“Yeah, it’s a business and that’s what they have to do, but you don’t have to lie along the way. They do things the right way. The have good business ethics and they’re good people. They’re a family and they treat like you part of their family. When you have a business that’s grounded in such good values, you’ll have success.”

While CES MMA is taking time to honor its past on Saturday, all eyes are on the potential future stars fighting on this weekend’s card, including Boston’s Lewis Corapi (6-2, 3 KOs), a two-time CES MMA vet who returns to face Providence’s Keenan Raymond (3-2, 1 KO) in a lightweight bout.

“CES making the expansion to Massachusetts, and hopefully other states in the future, is a huge positive for the local MMA landscape,” Corapi said. “As a local fighter we all know that CES is the promotion to fight for because of the quality of their shows, how they treat us as entertainers and their record of having guys move from CES to the UFC.

“With CES moving to Massachusetts, us Massachusetts fighters get a chance to showcase our skills closer to home and get a bigger group of fans out to the events. Having more fans at the events and introducing CES to new people that otherwise would not have seen it is extremely beneficial. It also shows that CES is really solidifying their hold on being the northeastern powerhouse promotion for MMA events.”

As one of eight Massachusetts natives fighting on the professional side of Saturday’s event, not including five additional amateurs from the Bay State, Corapi is hoping to carve a path similar to his predecessors — and, in some cases, training partners — who’ve gained widespread notoriety with the UFC.

“CES’s track record of advancing fighters to the UFC is something that is extremely attractive to me,” Corapi said. “I don’t want to say that it provides extra motivation for me, because I’m training for every single fight with everything I have, however, it does provide me with extra motivation to get onto a CES show.

“I know several fighters personally that have made that trip from CES to the UFC — Charles Rosa, Rob Font, Kyle Bochniak, John Howard — and seeing them get to the UFC helps reinforce the crazy notion that I will in fact make it there as well. If I’m given the choice between fighting for another promotion, even for more money, and fighting for CES, I’ll always go with CES because it helps me more in my long-term goals.”

With what Corapi hopes is a raucous cheering section behind him on Saturday at the North Shore, CES MMA’s Massachusetts debut figures to be a tremendous success. The sky’s the limit for both the promotion and the fighters.

“As much as I have enjoyed fighting for CES at Twin River Casino, it ends up being a bit of a hassle to get down there with all of the traffic and the nightmare that is Friday afternoon,” Corapi said. “I have many fans that won’t make the trek down to Rhode Island because of the distance, so with this card being in my ‘backyard’ there are a ton of people that are finally willing and able to come see me fight in person.”

Added Rosa: “I think it’s going to be a great show and I think it’s going to be a really good night.”

Del Valle Demolishes Crespo in Two

Salem, NH (April 10, 2016) – Super bantamweight contender Luis “Orlandito” Del Valle of Bayamon, PR scored a dominant second round stoppage over local favorite Josh Crespo Saturday, April 9 at Rockingham Park in Salem, NH.

With a standing room only crowd on hand, Del Valle pressured Crespo early in the opening round and found a home for right hands. In the second, Del Valle continued to connect with clean shots including a perfectly placed hard overhand right to Crespo’s temple that sent him crashing to the canvas. The game Crespo got up and immediately stumbled back to the canvas but incredibly made it back to his feet before the count of 10. Seconds later, Del Valle swarmed his badly hurt foe and landed a number of punches until Crespo’s corner threw in the towel at 2:17.

“I knew early in the first round that I was the stronger fighter and would be able to hurt him with my punches,” Del Valle said after improving his record to 21-2 with 16 KO’s. “I give him all the credit in the world for stepping up to fight me and having tremendous heart. I thought the referee was going to stop it because I’ve never seen a fighter get knocked down, stand up, fall again then get back up in less than ten seconds.”

Del Valle who scored his third consecutive stoppage since losing a controversial decision to Luis Rosa, is confident that he’ll land another bout against a top fighter in the very near future.

“I did what I had to do last night and it’s onto bigger and better things. In my mind, Darchinyan is the only fighter to defeat me and I’ve grown a lot since then. There are many great fighters at 122 pounds that I’d love to get in the ring with and I’m confident it will happen soon.”

Del Valle’s next bout is scheduled to be televised and formal details will follow shortly.

WORLD CHAMPION SMITH MAKES LIVERPOOL HOMECOMING ON 4th JUNE

Merseyside maverick Liam Smith makes a hero’s return to Liverpool this summer to make the second defence of his WBO World Super-Welterweight title at the Echo Arena on Saturday 4th June against an opponent to be announced.

The Scouse warrior will headline an action-packed show in his first fight in Liverpool in over a year, exclusively live on BoxNation.

Smith become Liverpool’s first World Champion in 22 years last October when he stopped American John Thompson in the seventh round to claim the vacant WBO Super-Welterweight crown.

His finishing was as emphatic as his game plan. A brutal right-hand, left hook combination finished Thompson just past the halfway point in the seventh.

Following his sensational performance against Thompson, Smith returned to the Manchester Arena two months later to make the first defence of his newly attained title against Mancunian Jimmy Kelly on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ world title showdown with Andy Lee.

In the first Manchester versus Liverpool world title showdown in over 80 years, Smith blasted out his unbeaten rival with another seventh round stoppage. After emphatically announcing himself on the world stage ‘Beefy’ is now looking forward to making a hero’s return to his beloved home city.

He said: “I was gutted to miss out fighting on the massive Flanagan versus Mathews bill but my body has had a good rest and now I’m looking forward to making my home return. Winning and defending my first ever world title in Manchester was an incredible experience but nothing beats fighting in front of your own people,”

“There’s no better crowd to fight in front of. I’m a proud Liverpudlian and the Echo Arena holds many happy memories for me. I won the WBA Continental title against Zoltan Sera there back in 2014 and then beat David Romero to take the WBO Inter-Continental title in 2015. It’s going to be another special night there on June 4,” added Smith.

27-year-old Smith, who has a record of 22 wins unbeaten with 12 KOs, harbours ambitions of unifying the 154-pound division with WBA champion Erislandy Lara and undefeated IBF titleholder Jermall Charlo on the list of future targets.

“2016 is going to be an even better year for me,” said Smith. “2015 was an unforgettable year, I got a shot at the world title and then defended it against a tough opponent in Jimmy Kelly but this year is going to be even more special.

“I’m in this sport to face the best and if the opportunity presents itself I would love to unify the titles against the very best in my division. Fans deserve to see the best fights and having all the champions face each other makes sense. I believe I can beat anyone in the division and I want to go in there and prove it.”

Smith will headline an action-packed card with more title fights to be announced.

Tickets are available for pre-order on Monday 11th April by calling 01992 505 550 and will then go on general sale on Wednesday 13th April at 10am.

Emeev advances to M-1 Global Grand Prix Middleweight Championship

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (April 10, 2016) – M-1 Challenge middleweight champion Ramazan Emeev won last night at M-1 Challenge 65 to advance to the M-1 Global Grand Prix Middleweight Championship, while undefeated challenger Alexey Kunchenko defeated defending champion Murad “Hunter” Abdulaev to become the new M-1 Challenge welterweight titlist, at CSC Sibur Arena in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Ramazan (14-3-0, M-1: 810), the 2015 M-1 Global Fighter of the Year, used a choke hold on his Brazilian opponent, Maiquel “Big Rig” Facao (35-9-0, M-1: 0-1-0), in their M-1 Grand Prix middleweight semifinals match. The main event ended at the 2:50 mark of the opening round as Ramazan advances to face three-time Bellator champion Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko (51-9-0, M-1: 2-0-0) in the upcoming M-1 Grand Prix Middleweight Championship showdown.

Emeev finishes off Falcao

In the co-feature, undefeated Russian Alexey Kunchenko (13-0-0, M-1: 5-0-0) wrested the M-1 Challenge welterweight title from his fellow countryman, defending champion Murad “Hunter” Abdulaev (14-1-0, M-1: 5-1-0), whose corner stopped the bout in the fourth round.

New champ Kunchenko strikes

Former M-1 Challenge lightweight champion Max Divnich (12-1-0, M-1: 6-1-0) put himself back into title contention with an impressive second-round stoppage on punches of M-1 Global-debuting American opponent Robert “TQ” Turnquest (5-2-0, M-1: 0-1-0).

Russian middleweight prospect Artem Frolov (6-0-0, M-1: 2-0-0) kept his unbeaten pro record intact, submitting Kristijan “Klitschko” Perak (8-3-1, M-1: 0-2-1) in the first round by way of an arm-bar.

Rounding out the main card, Russian welterweight Sergei Romanov (8-1-0, M-1: 0-1-0) stopped Brazilian Sergio “Sergingo” de Fatima (12-3-1, M-1: 0-1-0) in the first round of a battle featuring a pair making their M-1 Global debut.

On the preliminary card, Russian light heavyweight Murad Kamilov (6-5-0, M-1: 1-1-0) was victorious when the corner of Brazilian veteran Charles “Gracie” Andrade (28-28-0, M-1: 1-3-0) corner stopped the match in the second round, Russian welterweight Danila Prikaza (3-0-1, M-1: 2-0-0) remained unbeaten with a first-round stoppage of Azerbaijan foe Manaf Damirli (1-1-0, M-1: 0-1-0), Ukrainian lightweight Alexander “Iron Capture” Butenko (40-11-0, M-1: 7-1-0) won his 40th pro fight with a three-round decision over German Sascha Sharma (8-3-0, M-1: 0-1-0), Russian lightweight Damir Ismagulov (5-2-0, M-1: 3-1-0) forced an opening-round submission of Ukrainian Vyacheslav Ten (12-8-2, M-1: 0-2-0) via a rear naked choke, and in a St. Petersburg MMA SuperCup match, Russian Salman Magomedov (3-0-0, M-1: 0-1-0) choked out Georgian pro-debuting Zurab Jojua (0-1-0, M-1: 0-1-0) with an arm triangle in the second round.

UPRISING PROMOTIONS DELIVERS ANOTHER OUTSTANDING NIGHT OF BOXING

Long Island City, N.Y. – Ronson Frank’s Uprising Promotions delivered another exciting evening of boxing to a full house at the Five Star Banquet Hall on Saturday night, treating fans to a great display of competitive fights and thunderous knockouts.

In the final bout of the evening, heavyweight prospect Romarick Ngoula (5-0, 5 KOs) completely overwhelmed seven-fight veteran Glenn Thomas as soon as the opening bell sounded. The Colin Morgan trained Ngoula swarmed his Pennsylvania counterpart with power in both hands, allowing him no real estate to find his bearings.

Early in the first frame, Ngoula walked Thomas down before firing a left hook, right hook combination that dropped him to the canvas. When the action resumed, Ngoula wasted no time in stalking him again before consecutive right hooks to the head and body put Thomas back on the floor. Referee Eric Dali had seen enough at that point and opted to wave off the contest at 1:15 of the opening round.

Featherweight Jose Gonzalez (2-0, 0 KOs) returned to action on Saturday night when he faced Jaxel Marrero of Puerto Rico. After a bit of a feeling out in the first frame, Marrero looked to force the issue with Gonzalez by turning up the heat, which actually helped the native New Yorker get comfortable and find his timing. As the action progressed, Gonzalez threw heavier volume and was able to out-work Marrero, who definitely made him earn the win.

After going the four-round distance, Gonzalez found himself with his second professional victory after straight scores of 39-37 were delivered by the ringside officials.

Popular Bronx junior middleweight Peter Dobson (7-0, 5 KOs) got back to work on this card, facing Newark native Malik Jackson (3-8-4, 2 KOs), who was facing his 11th undefeated opponent. Dobson, known by the moniker of Pistol, was definitely firing on all cylinders against the awkward and always-tough Jackson. He was the more polished fighter of the two combatants, chopping away at the body while displaying a calm demeanor and great poise throughout what was the longest bout of his career to date.

In the latter frames of this six-round affair, Dobson was starting to find Jackson more often as he was able to time the jerky movement of his gritty opposition, picking his spots and maintaining control of the action.

When the final bell demanded the opinions of the judges at ringside, Dobson found himself with a unanimous decision victory via tallies of 60-54 (twice) and 59-55.

Highly-touted Brooklyn junior lightweight Jude Franklin (2-0, 2 KOs) confirmed again why so many people in the boxing community are so excited about him, disposing of Texan Rex Jackson (0-3) in less than two minutes.

Franklin displayed great balance and power in the short encounter, putting the exclamation point on this bout when he ripped a two-piece combination to the body of Jackson midway through the opening frame that immediately made him crumble forward. Unable to beat the 10-count by Dali, Franklin found himself with his second stoppage in two professional bouts. The end officially came at the 1:45 mark of the first stanza.

In an entertaining middleweight contest, Brooklyn native Villi Bello (4-1-1, 1 KO) faced Dallas resident (3-2-1, 0 KOs) Michael LeMelle over four rounds. There was some good back-and-forth action between the two pugilists, with Bello landing the cleaner punches amid their exchanges. By the third frame, he was finding a home for his looping right hand, remaining on the attack and delivering heavy volume throughout the encounter.

LeMelle certainly showed his grit and resolve to make it tough for Bello, but the New Yorker eventually saw his hand raised when the judges revealed 40-36 counts across the board.

Brooklyn junior middleweight Mathew Armstrong (2-0, 1 KO) shined in his second professional outing, extinguishing Philadelphia’s Malik Joe (0-2) at 1:29 of the opening round. After a couple of early exchanges, Joe pressed forward with a pair of jabs that both missed as Armstrong bounced beyond their range while maintaining his balance. Once he quickly planted on his back foot, Armstrong blasted a sharp right hand that landed perfectly on the chin of Joe, who crumbled to the canvas after his equilibrium began processing the blow. The impact of the shot was too much for him to get back his bearings within 10 seconds, and Armstrong fell to his knees in exuberation as his opponent was counted out.

The official time of the stoppage came at the 1:29 mark of the first frame.

In the opening bout of the evening, two-time New York Golden Gloves winner Natalie Gonzalez (2-0) returned to action against the pro debuting Rachel Sazoff (0-1). Gonzalez, who fought her first professional fight on the last Uprising Promotions card in January, appeared more polished in this outing. She displayed the same volume and speed, but her punches were coming off cleaner and more crisp. Sazoff was certainly a worthy opponent who hung in there tough, but the cleaner shots were coming off the hands of Gonzalez, who earned a unanimous decision win after securing consecutive 40-36 tallies on the scorecards.

This Uprising Promotions card continued its initiative to KO Autism, with proceeds from the night getting donated to The School For Language and Communication Development (SLCD) in Glen Cove, New York. This show was sponsored by Brooklyn Brothers, Sleep Inn, Alma Restaurant and Charlie’s Auto Collision in Long Island City.

TOP FIGHTERS IN 154-POUND DIVISION TAKE CENTER STAGE ON SHOWTIME®

Erislandy Lara
NEW YORK (April 9, 2016) – The 154-pound division will take center stage on Saturday, May 21 in a SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING tripleheader featuring three world title fights in the same division. In a rare showcase of the division’s elite, five of the top-six super welterweights* will square off live on SHOWTIME at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Venue and ticket information are forthcoming.

(*via Transnational Boxing Rankings)

In the main event, Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara—the consensus No. 1 fighter at 154 pounds—will defend his WBA Super Welterweight World Championship against U.S. Olympian and top contender Vanes “The Nightmare” Martirosyan in a rematch of their 2012 bout that ended in a technical draw.

Brothers Jermall and Jermell Charlo will look to make history in co-featured bouts as the first twins to hold world titles in the same division. Unbeaten IBF Super Welterweight World Champion Jermall faces his toughest test when he makes the second defense of his belt against former world champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout. Jermell will take on exciting contender John Jackson in a bout for the vacant WBC Super Welterweight World Championship.

The event is being promoted by Mayweather Promotions and TGB Promotions.

With five of the top-six ranked fighters on the telecast, the May 21 matchups join an already stellar slate of recently announced boxing events on SHOWTIME. The super welterweights join the top fighters at featherweight, welterweight, super middleweight and heavyweight in a series of fights that features accomplished champions and young stars facing each other in the most significant divisional matches that can be made.

“This is yet another example of SHOWTIME Sports’ commitment to delivering the best lineup in boxing,” said Stephen Espinoza, Executive Vice President & General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports. “We’re featuring three important championship fights in one of boxing’s most intriguing young divisions – a tripleheader that will bring our 2016 tally of world title bouts to 14 – all free to SHOWTIME subscribers. We’re excited to offer this rare opportunity to see the top fighters in a division all on the same telecast.”

“Mayweather Promotions is thrilled to bring this fantastic tripleheader of super welterweight world champions to fight fans,” said Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions. “The best of the 154-pound division will be on display on May 21 and we expect an action-packed night of drama.”

“We’re very excited to work with SHOWTIME on this action-packed tripleheader,” said Tom Brown of TGB Promotions. “Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan have a huge score to settle from their 2012 bout, and Jermall and Jermell Charlo are in high-stakes matchups against Austin Trout and John Jackson, respectively, in what promises to be a highly entertaining evening of boxing.”

A technical master, Lara is considered one of the toughest men to beat in the sport and will look to continue his reign at 154 pounds against the always-game Martirosyan, who is set on becoming a world champion on his second try.

The 25-year-old Charlos are aiming for history against stiff opposition from a former champion in Trout and the Olympian from the Virgin Islands in Jackson.

The 32-year-old Lara is a slick boxer with the ability to deliver punishment while taking very little of it in return. Lara has notched victories over Alfredo Angulo, Austin Trout, Ishe Smith and Freddy Hernandez. As an amateur, Lara won numerous titles including a national championship at welterweight and also participated in the 2007 Pan-Am games. The fighter originally from Guantanamo, Cuba dominated Delvin Rodriguez in June of last year and followed that up with a third-round stoppage of former champion Jan Zaveck.

Born in Armenia, but fighting out of Glendale, Calif., Martirosyan represented the U.S. at the 2004 Olympics. As a professional, he won his first 32 fights before fighting Lara to a draw in 2012. The 29-year-old suffered a narrow defeat by split decision in his first world title shot against Demetrius Andrade, but has rebounded with solid victories over Mario Lozano, Willie Nelson and most recently Ishe Smith.

A newly crowned champion at 25-years-old, Charlo grabbed his title with a dominant third-round stoppage of Cornelius Bundrage in September 2015. Residing in Houston, Charlo built up his resume in 2014 with dominant triumphs over Hector Munoz, Norberto Gonzale, Lenny Bottai and Michael Finney. In his most recent outing, he successfully defended his title with a fourth-round stoppage of Wilky Campfort in November.

In 2004, Trout won the U.S. National Amateur welterweight championship and after climbing up the ranks as an elite pro boxer, he won a super welterweight world championship in 2011 by defeating Rigoberto Alvarez. He went on to make four successful defenses, including a career-best, dominant victory over Miguel Cotto in New York. He is currently on a four-fight win streak after knocking out Joey Hernandez in September to set up his world title opportunity.

Younger-by-one-minute than Jermall, Jermell Charlo is a highly ranked young fighter looking to get one step closer to a world title shot. A tall fighter for his division, the 25-year-old earned his shot at a world title with victories over Gabriel Rosado, Charlie Ota and Mario Lozano in 2014 and Martirosyan and former world champion Joachim Alcine in 2015. He impressed last time out by disposing of Alcine in the sixth-round of their fight in Houston in October.

Since representing his native Virgin Islands in the 2008 Olympics, Jackson has put together an impressive pro career. The St. Thomas-born fighter won his initial 13 fights after making his debut in January 2009. The 27-year-old earned the No. 1 spot and the title shot with a shutout victory over Dennis Laurente in August. Jackson comes from a fighting family; his father John David Jackson was a world champion and feared power-puncher while his brother, Julius, is a contender in the 168-pound weight class.

MCDONNELL DOMINATES VARGAS IN WBA DEFENCE

Jamie McDonnell dominated Fernando Vargas with a ninth round stoppage win in the fourth defence of his WBA World Bantamweight title at The O2, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

McDonnell patiently picked the tough Mexican apart as the late replacement provided stubborn resistance in the first half of the fight, but the Doncaster man was faultless and put his foot down in the second half of the fight to force the stoppage after landing heavy headshots in the ninth session.

McDonnell believes he should now add to his WBA strap and is hunting a unification showdown with his fellow champions at 118lbs.

“The kid came it at the last minute and we knew he was going to be tough for the first half of the fight,” said McDonnell. “The game plan was to break him down, work him down and take him out of there after six.
“It felt so easy in there but it was very frustrating when I started chasing him around and not cutting him down, but when I pinged him and let the shots go you could see he couldn’t take the shots and the power, and he folded.

“I have been on the road and proved I am the best in the Bantamweight division; I beat the WBO champion and should have the IBF, WBA and WBO World titles. I have defended the WBA belt four times, I am the best in the Bantamweights – forget Lee Haskins, Shinsuke Yamanaka, your Juan Carlos Payano; I said to Eddie line those fights up and I will go and take the titles, as long as I am fighting I am happy.

“The plan was to move up after the first Tomoki Kameda fight but I can still make Bantamweight and as long as there are fights there I can still make Bantamweight, I don’t mind moving up to fight the likes of Scott Quigg or Carl Frampton, I believe if I move up I would beat them, but at the minute I am clearing up at Bantamweight.”

Hearn added: “He will fight anyone. There is talk of the Scott Quigg fight at Super Bantamweight. I think that is a good fight, Scott wants it, Jamie fancies that. He has been superb, an unsung hero of British boxing and he is really starting to get the respect he deserves.

“He is a two-time Bantamweight champion. Dave Coldwell has done a brilliant job with him and I thought he went through the gears excellently there. I believe he is the best Bantamweight in the World. Payano for the Super belt could be next, Lee Haskins is out there with a World title and Stuart Hall is in a final eliminator for Lee’s belt. Jamie is getting better and better with every fight.”

In the early action, Ohara Davies put in a powerful performance to land the English Lightweight title in style. Davies dropped Andy Keates in the opening round and battered the Leek man over the next three rounds before delivering a brutal body shot that ended proceedings in the fourth round.

“I’ve worked hard in the gym and did everything write in the build-up so this is what happens what I can do when I get it right,” said Davies. “I am ready for the British title, I’d love to fight Scotty Cardle or defend my English again Sean Dodd.”

Matthew Macklin came out on top in his crossroads Middleweight clash with Brian Rose. The Irishman had a point deducted in the tenth round for low blows in a war of attrition between the pair, but his busy approach and fast start handed him the win against the Blackpool man by majority decision – 113-113, 115-111 and 115-111.

“I think I was the one that wanted it more,” said Macklin. “I need to think now, I didn’t win in the convincing fashion I thought I would but I am not going to take any meaningless fights now I will only take big ones. Let’s sit tight and see what comes. I started OK but I got sloppy. He was a lot tougher than I expected and I wasted some energy going for the body.”\

Conor Benn kicked off his pro career with a first round KO win at The O2, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Benn showed all his father Nigel’s trademarks as he fired in heavy shots from the first bell of his exciting future in the paid ranks, and the 19 year old made sure his first night would be a short one as he cornered Hungarian Ivailo Boyanov and handed him more punishment before the referee waved it off.

“It is unbelievable,” said Benn. “This is something that will stay with me until the day I die, it is an unbelievable reception I got. I told you I am bring the Team Benn vibes back and here it is, there is much more to come.

“The crowd have welcomed me and then it is me focusing on what I have got to do – get in there and do the damage.

“If I can fight in front of a crowd like this and just embrace it and perform the way I did, then let’s fight every month, as much as I can. I have to be three-times World champion, not two.”

“My heart was going like the clappers,” said Nigel Benn. “Now you can see what he has got in store – he is quality, he likes to fight just like me and he has the tools. I am proud that he will be working with Eddie Hearn, he couldn’t be with any better promoter. I can go back to Australia now – I am not coming back here anymore, I cannot take it anymore!

“He wants to be better than me and he is going to be better than me.”

REPEAT OR REVENGE: FURY AND KLITSCHKO COLLIDE IN BLOCKBUSTER RETURN EXCLUSIVELY LIVE ON BOXNATION

Tyson Fury
BoxNation have secured the exclusive UK live TV rights for Unified World Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury’s highly-anticipated rematch against the legendary Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday 9th July at a venue in the North-West of England to be announced by promoters Hennessy Sports and K2 Promotions.

The exciting news follows hot-on-the-heels of the recent announcement that The Channel Of Champion also acquired the exclusive live rights to the sensational showdown between British boxing hero and former World Champion Amir Khan against the Mexican pound-for-pound great Canelo Alvarez on Saturday 7th May.

The bitter grudge match sees Fury, the linear, WBA Super, WBO, IBO and Ring Magazine World Heavyweight Champion make the first defence of the titles against the man he took them from in an explosive blockbuster showdown.

Undefeated Fury shocked the sporting world last November when he sensationally dethroned long-reigning heavyweight icon Klitschko in one of boxing’s biggest ever upsets in recent years at the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The self-proclaimed Gypsy King broke down in tears in the ring after he ended Klitschko’s long reign as Heavyweight Champion with a deserved unanimous decision as he outboxed the Ukrainian.

Fury (25-0, 18 KOs), who is regarded as the leading Heavyweight in the World, has stated his desire to dispose of Klitschko again before targeting a potential showdown with WBC king Deontay Wider (36-0, 35 KOs), but in one of boxing’s most eagerly-anticipated rematches, Fury will first be looking to prove his doubters wrong once more.

Klitschko is gunning for revenge after suffering his first defeat in over 11 years at the hands of the Mancunian. The 40-year-old was quick to take up the contractual option for a rematch against Fury; ending speculation that he would decide to retire after his 11 year, 22-fight unbeaten streak was spectacularly ended. ‘Dr Steelhammer’ (64-4 54 KOs) is determined to recapture his belts from Fury and take his place back at the top of the world heavyweight scene.

Fury said, “I’m thrilled to get this fight on July 9th and more importantly the fight is going live on BoxNation. I’ve had great relations with the team at Boxnation and I’m over the moon to be working with Boxnation once again in this super fight. I’m the best heavyweight in the world and the rest are imposters to my titles. I am coming for all of them once I’ve dealt with Klitschko a second time.”

Klitschko said, “I’m honoured that my rematch with Tyson Fury will be shown LIVE by the UK’s premier boxing network, BoxNation on Saturday 9th July. BoxNation has shown a great commitment and has a tremendous reputation for showing the best fights from around the world and this rematch is a perfect fit. Boxing fans worldwide will watch this international mega event and I’m looking forward to coming out victorious against Tyson Fury and regaining my heavyweight titles.”

BoxNation Chairman Frank Warren said, “BoxNation is the REAL home of the real Champions and I’m delighted that we’ve secured the real Heavyweight Championship of the World with Fury v Klitschko II which is by far the biggest fight in Europe so far this year. The addition of the fight to the channel is another fantastic acquisition following on from the recent capture of the blockbuster showdown between Khan v Canelo. This yet again shows our commitment to bringing the biggest and best fights to our BoxNation subscribers. The night promises to be one of the biggest events in the UK for years and I’m thrilled our channel will be there as Fury looks to cement his place as king of the heavyweight division.”

KHAN HAILS PACQUIAO AS ONE OF THE BEST EVER AS FILIPINO LEGEND LOOKS TO END CAREER ON A HIGH AGAINST BRADLEY LIVE ON PREMIER SPORTS

Amir Khan
LONDON (April 8) – Boxing ace Amir Khan has hailed Manny Pacquiao as one of the greatest ever.

The Filipino superstar is set to call time on his illustrious career when he takes on Timothy Bradley live and exclusive on Premier Sports this Saturday night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Speaking about his former stablemate Khan was quick to praise the eight-time world champion regarding him as one of the best of his generation.

“What Manny has achieved in boxing is incredible,” Khan told Premier Sports. “If he does call it a day with his career he can look back and be very proud of what he achieved because very few fighters have done what he has.

“He’s been in top fights, won a lot of world titles and has fought for everything to get to where he has got to so I have nothing but respect for that.

“It’s clear that he is one of the best fighters of this generation and I wish him nothing but the best if he does end his career against Bradley,” he said.

The 29-year-old Bolton boxer who is lined up to face Canelo Alvarez in a megafight at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas next month for the middleweight world title was in the running to be Pacquiao’s opponent this time around.

However, despite intense negotiations the fight never materialised, something which Khan hoped would have taken place.

“You always want to test yourself against the best and Manny is still one of the best around. It’s a fight we tried to make happen between us but for some reason or other it never came about,” said Khan.

“My team met with Bob Arum in London and we had agreed everything but it didn’t happen. It would have been a great fight and backstory but we both have other big fights coming up so are focused on them.

“I have no doubt it would have been an explosive fight but I wish Manny luck in his fight with Bradley,” said Khan.

37-year-old Pacquiao will meet Californian Bradley in a rubber match following previous meetings in 2012 and 2014.

Five-time world champion Bradley controversially won the first one before Pacquiao bounced back to win their second meeting in style, with this weekend’s clash set to be the decider.

Khan has picked the Philippines Congressman to come out on top despite acknowledging the improvements in Bradley.

“I think the fight will be closer this time around but Manny will have too much in the end. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back from his shoulder injury though and what sort of affect that will have on him,” Khan said.

“Bradley has improved under Teddy Atlas but it takes time to really get to know each other and they’ve only been together for one fight so it’s still early in their relationship.

“I’m interested to see what they have up their sleeve for this fight but I’m sure Manny will be able to deal with it,” he said.

To watch Pacquiao v Bradley 3 live and exclusive on Premier Sports for only £9.99 visit premiersports.com or call 0871 663 9000.

Friday Feature: King-Bedard trilogy takes center stage

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 8th, 2016) — Their first two fights were so good, Tyler King and Eric Bedard figured it was worth trading blows one last time.

“The feeling was, ‘We have to do this,'” said King, who won the first bout between the two in 2012.

“Everybody wants to see it,” added Bedard, who avenged that loss in the rematch two years later.

Coincidentally, the two crossed paths in December at another event, squashed their differences and discussed a third and final fight. Just like that, a trilogy was born.

The rubber match will take place Saturday, April 16th, 2016 on the undercard of “CES MMA 35” at the North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Mass., sponsored by Foxwoods Resort Casino.

Both King (9-4, 3 KOs) and Bedard (6-6, 4 KOs) are coming off back-to-back losses, so if a third fight was going to happen, it was now or never, especially with rumors swirling about King’s impending retirement. There was bad blood between the two, admits Bedard, a misunderstanding stemming from a rival promoter’s attempt to book the fight long before either side was ready, but that’s in the past now.

With two fights between them in the books, both ending in first-round knockouts lasting a grand total of 5 minutes, 56 seconds, there’s nothing but mutual respect along with a corresponding desire to “settle the score,” a common phrase in the fight game both King and Bedard are using loosely leading up this rubber match.

“I can’t help but respect the guy,” said King, a North Attleboro, Mass., native. “He goes in there and mixes it up with all the toughest guys. If you look at his last two fights, he fought Matt Thompson, who just fought Anton Berzin, and I know Matt and train with Matt and he’s a tough prick. He’s been around forever. Then he went out and fought Parker Porter, who I think is the best heavyweight in New England. He’s not taking easy fight, so I can’t help but respect the guy.”

Added the Providence, R.I., native Bedard: “When he came up to me at the fight in December, he said, ‘I’m not going to talk any shit. Let’s just get the fight done.’ I was cool with that. I have respect for him. Anyone who gets in that cage and fights, I’ve got to respect you. There are a lot of different personalities. Some people rub you the wrong way. I rub people the wrong way. It is what it is.”

Pleasantries aside, both sides are willing to do whatever it takes to win next weekend’s third and final installment. In Bedard’s case, that means more of the same, even if his approach is as predictable as it is effective.

“I never really have a strategy to fight,” he said. “I’m going to walk out there and everyone knows what I’m going to do. You can ask anyone who’s ever seen me fight. I’m going to walk out there and I’m going to throw bombs. Anybody that trains with me, they know I walk forward and throw bombs.

“Yeah, I’m not that great on the ground,” Bedard admits. “One of my two submissions is a tap out due to strikes. I just pounded the guy until he gave up. Realistically, I have one submission.

“I won’t try to give up position to go for a submission. I’ll punch you in the face. If there’s a position where I can crack you with an elbow, that’s what I’ll do. If you turn around and do something stupid and leave your neck out there, I’ll rip your head off, but that’s about all I’ll do. I’m not going to go for an omoplata or a gogoplata. You’re going to see keylocks, kimuras, guillotines, that’s about it.”

King plans on adding a new wrinkle to his game plan, even if the perception is he and Bedard know each other too well to fool one another at this point.

“I’m going to put out something he’s never seen before,” King said. “Don’t get me wrong, he trains with some of the best guys in New England, so I’m sure he’s seen plenty, but, hey, I’m me. I’m a different fighter.

“One thing I try to do is evolve every time out. I was much different fighter coming off my layoff. I had a couple of tough fights and had to go back and analyze what I’ve done. I’m going to have some new things out there. It’s not going to be the same old, same old. If you’re not evolving, you’re getting worse, and I pride myself on getting better every time I go out there.”

Whether next weekend’s fight ends in another quick knockout or unfolds over the course of three hard rounds, neither fighter will lean on excuses when the trilogy is finally over. Why start now? Both King and Bedard have owned up to their shortcomings in their losses and are ready to accept whatever happens on the 16th, win or lose.

“One thing in my career is I’ve had guys who I’ve beaten soundly make a ton of excuses and I promised myself I’d never do that,” King said, “so the one thing I’m going to say is he was the better man that night. There’s no two ways around it. I can’t say, ‘This happened,’ or, ‘I was pissed off because my dog ran away.’ None of that. You get in the cage and it is what it is. I have to be better this time out.”

“He won the first fight. I’m not going to take anything away from him,” Bedard said. “I’ve watched the fight since then and I’ve had a couple of people come up to me and say out of the blue, ‘Hey, when you fight Tyler you were winning that fight until you got caught.’ Whatever. He caught me and he won. That’s how it is. I don’t look back at fights and say, ‘Well, I could’ve,’ or, ‘I should’ve,’ or, ‘I was winning until …’ It doesn’t matter. Look at the Cheick Kongo fight [against Pat Barry]. [Barry] knocked him [down] three times, Kongo came back and knocked him out. You don’t win the fight until the ref raises your hand at the end and calls your name.”

Tickets for “CES MMA 35” are priced at $35.00, $50.00 and $100.00 (VIP) and can also be purchased online at www.nsmt.org, by phone at 978-232-7200 or at the North Shore Music Theatre Box Office. Doors open at 6 p.m. ET and the first bout begins at 7. All bouts are subject to change.

Headlining “CES MMA 35” is the return of Gloucester, Mass., bantamweight Pedro Gonzalez (10-5, 9 KOs), who faces Boston’s Andres Jeudi (7-5, 3 KOs) in the main event.

Having battled injuries and setbacks for more than a year and a half, Gonzalez steps back into the cage for the first time since 2014 against the seasoned Jeudi, who has squared off against regional standouts Saul Almeida, Matt Bessette, Leon Davis, Chris Foster and Lucas Cruz.

Also on the pro portion of the card, Quincy, Mass., middleweight Mike Rodriguez (2-0, 2 KOs) puts his perfect record on the line against Buck Pineau (1-2) of Ashland, Maine in a rematch of their amateur bout in which Pineau won by third-round submission. Pineau returns to CES MMA for the first time since October when an arm injury cut short his match against Pat McCrohan at “CES MMA XXXI.”

Rounding out the main card of “CES MMA 35,” Medford, Mass., lightweight Lewis Corapi (6-2, 3 KOs) faces Keenan Raymond (3-2, 1 KO) of Providence, R.I., who scored his first career knockout win in January at “CES MMA XXXII,” and Boston’s Devin Carrier (0-1) searches for his first win as a pro in a lightweight bout against Meriden, N.H., native Wayne Ahlquist (1-2, 1 KO). Corapi looks to rebound from a stunning second-round knockout loss to Jay Bakanowski at “CES MMA XXVIII.” Fall River, Mass., lightweight Josh LaBerge (9-5, 4 KOs) faces 37-fight vet Ran Weathers (18-21, 6 KOs) of Albuquerque, N.M.

Rico DiSciullo (5-0, 2 KOs), an undefeated Peabody, Mass., native with three appearances each for Bellator and CES MMA, will face Ohio’s Jake Constant (6-9, 2 KOs) in a rematch. The two went toe-to-toe at “CES MMA XXX” with Constant forced to tap out in the opening round due to a shoulder injury.

On the amateur side, Mark Bordieri of Foxborough, Mass., faces Nick O’Connell of Cranston, R.I., in a bantamweight bout; welterweight Jamie Collins of Woonsocket, R.I., battles Boston’s Jon Ciampa; and Aaron Reverdes of Pawtucket, R.I., faces Joao Ramos of Framingham, Mass., in a featherweight bout.

Also on the amateur portion of the card, Providence’s Marquis Brewster faces Billy Keenan of Salem, Mass., and Boston’s Sean Murrin (1-0, 1 KO) battles featherweight John Douma (2-1) of Providence. All amateurs are competing for a promotional contract with CES MMA.

Nine exciting new bouts are scheduled to take place on 6 May at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. In the main event, Singapore’s Angela Lee is set to do battle with Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi for the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship. In the co-main event, ONE Middleweight World Champion Vitaly Bigdash will defend his title against challenger Aleksei Butorin.

Tickets for ONE: ASCENT TO POWER are available at http://www.sportshubtix.com.sg.

“Unstoppable” Angela Lee of Waipahu, Hawaii, is one of the promotion’s most promising young prospects regardless of gender and weight class. Lee, who is of Singaporean and Korean descent, has strong roots in Singapore and trains at Asia’s premiere mixed martial arts gym, Evolve MMA. Lee’s beautiful combination of solid striking and grappling skills has proven to be a potent formula for success as she remains unbeaten so far in her MMA career. Lee will now challenge Japanese MMA veteran Mei Yamaguchi for the inaugural ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship.

33-year-old Japanese MMA veteran Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi is a female atomweight from Tokyo with a 15-8 professional mixed martial arts record. She is the current Deep Jewels Atomweight Champion and has won her last three bouts, including two by knockout. Yamaguchi’s experience and championship mettle will prove to be the biggest test of the surging Angela Lee’s career in a battle for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship.

ONE Middleweight World Champion Vitaly Bigdash of Rostov-on-don, Russia, will be making the first defense of his title since winning the belt back in October. Bigdash’s resounding technical knockout victory over former champion Igor Svirid is one of the most action-packed fights under ONE Championship, and he showcased tremendous heart and resolve to overcome a devastating attack by Svirid to score the upset. Now, he takes on his first challenger as champion in Aleksei Butorin.

St. Petersburg, Russia’s middleweight contender Aleksei Butorin debuted successfully in ONE Championship with an exciting knockout over highly-regarded Leandro Ataides last September. Butorin made waves with his frightening knockout power and relentless attack, showing fans why he remains undefeated in his seven-year mixed martial arts career. Now, Butorin receives the opportunity to fight for the title against ONE Middleweight World Champion Vitaly Bigdash.

Former ONE Featherweight World Champion Narantungalag Jadambaa of Mongolia makes his highly-anticipated return to the ONE cage since losing his title to current titleholder Marat “Cobra” Gafurov in an instant classic last November. Jadambaa and Gafurov went back-and-forth for four gruelling rounds before Gafurov was able to unseat the former champion. Jadambaa is now officially on the comeback trail, but will face tough foe Kotetsu Boku next.

Kotetsu “No Face” Boku, although originally from South Korea, is a Japanese mixed martial arts legend and former ONE Lightweight World Champion. With more than 30 professional fights on his fight resume, Boku has the experience of a seasoned veteran and has seen it all inside the cage. Always a crowd pleaser, Boku gets to showcase his dynamite fists once again as he takes on fellow former champion Narantungalag Jadambaa.

Needing no introduction, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu master Roger Gracie of the Gracie fighting family returns to ONE Championship seeking to continue his winning ways. In Gracie’s last bout, he overcame a dangerous James McSweeney to win via third-round technical knockout at ONE: WARRIOR’S WAY. This time, Gracie takes on unbeaten middleweight contender Michal Pasternak.

Undefeated 32-year-old Michal Pasternak of Pinczow, Poland, was successful in his ONE Championship debut against Rafael Silva, prevailing by decision to extend his win streak to 11. More than half of his victories have come either by knockout or submission, and he’ll be put to the test against Roger Gracie in a highly-anticipated three-round middleweight contest.

French mixed martial artist Sylvain Potard is an aggressive and powerful contender who has enjoyed mixed success in the ONE Championship cage. He is a 12-fight veteran who possesses experience and solid technique to match his undoubted power. In his promotional debut, he defeated highly-regarded American wrestler Jake Butler by knockout. Now, he returns to ONE to face Tatsuya Mizuno.

Tatsuya Mizuno is a 34-year-old Japanese mixed martial arts veteran from Tokyo. His extensive professional MMA record of 14 wins and 11 losses has given him knowledge and experience that is a cut above the level of many fighters. Mizuno uses his great all-round striking and grappling skills to subdue his opponents, and he gets another chance for victory inside the ONE Cage against Sylvain Potard.

Christian “The Warrior” Lee, younger brother of Angela “Unstoppable” Lee, has impressed in his first few outings in ONE Championship. Lee is riding the momentum of three stoppage wins inside the ONE Cage, two by highlight-reel knockout and the other by crafty submission. Lee looks to continue his early success but will face a stern test when he takes on the Philippines’ Cary Bullos.

32-year-old Filipino featherweight contender Cary “The Prince” Bullos is the URCC Visayas Bantamweight Champion. He has finished all his opponents in his seven wins, making him one of the top mixed martial arts prospects in the Philippines. Bullos fell short of victory in his first two appearances inside the ONE Cage, but he’s determined to get back in the win column by defeating Singapore’s Christian Lee.

21-year-old Singaporean mixed martial arts prospect Amir Khan will make his much-anticipated return to competition following a win over Filipino Jimmy Yabo back in November. Khan of Evolve MMA is a five-fight ONE Championship veteran who has only lost once inside the ONE Cage. The young gun is well-rounded and very aggressive, and will look to take on Chang Ching Hsiung next.

Taiwanese mixed martial artist “The Lightning” Chang Ching Hsiung will be making his ONE Championship debut. At four wins and three losses, Chang is a Sanda specialist and a solid prospect. He is the former Chinese Taipei K-1 Rules champion as well as the former Sanda-King champion. His first foray into Asia’s largest MMA promotion will be a tough one, when he takes on the promising young Amir Khan.

Unbeaten young Singaporean Benedict Ang has two wins and no losses inside the ONE Cage. The 19-year-old featherweight from Evolve MMA defeated mixed martial arts veteran Yohan Mulia Legowo in his last bout, stopping the Indonesian after two rounds of hard action. The highly-skilled Ang will showcase his talents once more when he faces Filipino Jimmy Yabo.

The Philippines’ Jimmy “The Silencer” Yabo is a former URCC standout with an impressive mixed martial arts record of five wins and two losses. He boasts a perfect knockout percentage, having finished all five of his opponents by KO within the distance, including his last bout when he felled Pakistan’s Bashir Ahmad with one punch. A rededicated Yabo is now looking for victory, but he’ll have to go through tough Singaporean Benedict Ang to get it.

Undefeated 21-year-old Dagistani Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev impressed fans in his first appearance in the ONE Cage last January, winning by technical knockout at just over 30 seconds into the first round against Mishal Alfad. Arslanaliev brought the crowd to the edge of their seats from the opening bell, swarming his opponent with fearless aggression and impressive wrestling technique. Arslanaliev will take on China’s Ma Jia Wen next.

Chinese standout Ma Jia Wen is 2-1 inside the ONE Cage, and a victor in his last bout against compatriot Wang Ya Wei last November at ONE: DYNASTY OF CHAMPIONS – Beijing II. Ma is part of a quickly rising contingent of rock-solid Chinese mixed martial artists, and will look to put his skills further to the test against aggressive Dagistani standout Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev.

The Apr. 16th “Knockout Night at the D” event will air Saturday night, April 16 (8 p.m. PT / 11 p.m. ET), live on CBS Sports Network from under the neon lights at the DLVEC outdoor venue.

Van Heerden (23-1-1, 12 KOs), fighting out of Santa Monica (CA), is a former International Boxing Organization (IBO) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion.

During his 10-year professional career, Van Heerden has defeated quality opponents such as Ramon Avila, Cecil McCalla, Ray Narh, Cosme Rivera, Mathew Hilton, and Sebastian Andres Lujan.

“A win over Claggett will put my career right back to where we need it to be,” Van Heerden said. “Winning this fight is my only option! I’m predicting a win, nothing less. Fans watching me fight for the first time can expect to watch a fighter with speed and footwork. I’m a winner who is going to win this fight no matter what.”

Claggett (23-3-1, 16 KOs) is the reigning Canadian Professional Boxing Council and Canadian welterweight champion. “Claggett’s strength is his comin’ forward aggression and that’s how he’s got most of his opponents to give up,” Van Heerden noted. “I know I’ve faced guys with more power. I’m expecting a hard fight, nothing easy, and it will be entertaining.”

The 28-year-old Van Heerden moved to Santa Monica two years ago after he wiped out the top South African fighters in his weight class. He has the strong support of actor Frank Grillo, who has appeared in numerous movies, including Warrior, The Grey, End of Watch, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Purge: Anarchy.

“Frank Grillo is like a father/brother figure to me and he has been since I met him,” Van Heerden explained their relationship. He motivates me on a daily basis. I’m blessed to be around him.”

Unbeaten California welterweight prospect Neeco “Rooster” Macias (11-0, 4 KOs), fighting out of Lancaster, CA, takes on Limberth “Lightning” Ponce, Jr. (10-2, 8 KOs), of Rock Island, Illinois, in the 8-round co-feature. Undefeated welterweight prospect Malik “Iceman” Hawkins (6-0, 5 KOs), of Baltimore, meets Errol Sidney (6-1-2, 2 KOs), of New Orleans, in a 6-round bout to open the television broadcast.

The undercard also features promising Las Vegas-based prospects in four-round bouts: welterweight Jeremy “J-Flash” Nichols (2-0, 2 KOs), featherweight Sal Lopez (2-0) and junior featherweight Randy Moreno (1-0, 1 KO).

All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Tickets, priced at $149.99 VIP ringside, $119.00 ringside, $74.99 seated and $29.99 rear seated, are on sale at www.Ticketmaster.com or www.DLVEC.com. Taxes and fees apply to all sold tickets.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. PT with the opening bout scheduled at 6:00 p.m. PT.
