KRAKOW, Poland (March 27, 2016) – Texas heavyweight Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina has a unique opportunity April 2 to get back in position to challenge for the world title, as well as keep his dream alive of becoming the first Mexican-American world heavyweight champion.

Upset-minded Molina (24-3, 18 KOs), who lost his only world title shot last June to undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Deontay Wilder, has traveled to Poland on a mission to knock off Poland’s heavy favorite Adamek (50-4, 30 KOs).

“I’m at the point in my career where my back is against the wall,” the 34-year-old Molina said. “All I’ve ever known to do is bounce back and April 2nd I intend to do just that. My dream of becoming the first Mexican-American heavyweight champion continues April 2nd in Poland.”

Molina wobbled Wilder in the third round of a losing match via a left hook, followed by a right cross. During his eight-year professional career, Molina has defeated Tony Grano for the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) championship, Warren Browning for the vacant WBC USNBC title, and Gabriel Holguin for the vacant WBC Latino crown.

The Apr. 2nd pay-per-view telecast will also include three potentially explosive 10-round bouts including the co-feature event between undefeated Polish cruiserweight prospect Michael Cieslak (11-0, 7 KOs) and two-time world title challenger Francisco “The Wizard” Palacios (23-3, 14 KOs), fighting out of Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

European female lightweight champion Ewa Brodnicka (10-0, 2 KOs), of Poland, defends her title against Italian champion Anota Torti (9-5, 3 KOs).

BROOK BATTERS BIZIER IN POWERFUL SHEFFIELD CLINIC

Kell Brook
Kell Brook delivered the destructive performance he promised in his IBF World Welterweight title defence against Kevin Bizier, dismissing the Canadian inside two rounds at the Sheffield Arena, live on Sky Sports.

Big right uppercuts in the opening round was a warning to the Canadian of the barrage that was coming his way.

Bizier began bleeding heavily from the nose early in the second round, and he was floored after being wobbled by a right hand, and then got caught heavily again by the Sheffield star and the fight was waved off by referee Howard Foster after two minutes and 15 seconds of round two.

‘The Special One’ made it 36 wins unbeaten in the paid ranks with his 25th win inside the distance in his third defence of his title, and now the 29 year old wants to land a major fight in the summer.

“I have power that can knock anyone out,” said Brook. “I want to train for a fight when I have a threat on my hands. I’d love the Danny Garcia fight, the Jesse Vargas fight, I’d take the Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter winner, the Timothy Bradley vs. Manny Pacquiao winner – I want them all.

“I want to thank all the fans, it’s been too long since I’ve been in Sheffield – there’s no me without those fans.

“I’ve been training a long, long, time, I’ve missed my daughters and weddings to get in the best shape ever. We’ve worked too hard to get this belt and I wasn’t going to slip up tonight.

“He couldn’t stand up to the power. I have got the mandatory out the way and now I want that massive fight.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn said that the task to land a major summer fight begins right away and with his mandatory obligations dealt with, Hearn says delivering a blockbuster fight for Brook is his priority.

“We had to fight Kevin Bizier, but it’s what he does to these fighters, he’s a beast,” said Hearn. “Kell needs to prove that he’s the best Welterweight in the world but no-one wants to fight Kell. I want to bring the big fights to Sheffield and we’ll be putting the money up to bring the best over here. There’s so many options for Kell and he wants to unify the division.”

Luke Campbell MBE landed the vacant Commonwealth Lightweight title with a brutal second round stoppage win over Gary Sykes at the Sheffield Arena, live on Sky Sports.

Campbell floored Sykes after stunning him with a left hook to the temple and although Sykes made the count, Campbell leapt on the Dewsbury man and backed him into the ropes and peppered Sykes with his trademark fast hands forcing the referee to step in and the corner to throw the towel in simultaneously with two seconds left in the round.

The Olympic gold medal hero became the first fighter from Hull to land the Commonwealth title in his first fight with new trainer Jorge Rubio, and says that along with a rematch with Yvan Mendy, he’d like to add the British belt too, with Scotty Cardle defending it next weekend in a rematch with Sean Dodd in Liverpool.

“I put 100 per cent into the camp,” said Campbell. “I left my family to go to Miami because Gary is a warrior and gives value for money, I had to stop him before he got going as he’s a tough fighter with bags of ability.

“The loss against Yvan was my fault but I’ve dealt with the consequences and it’s onwards and upwards from here now. It’s a major sacrifice going to Miami for long training camps but this is not a game; you can get hurt in boxing if you don’t pay full attention to your task.

“Mendy is on my list to get revenge for the loss and now I’ve got the Commonwealth belt maybe I can get the British too. Scotty is a great guy but he’s got something I want and that’s what we’re in the game for.”

Promoter Eddie Hearn added: “It was must win for him and I am delighted for Luke. The Mendy fight is one I’d like to make and so is Cardle, who has a tough fight next week. I believe Luke is one of the top Lightweights in the world and we want to land the fights that will let him prove it.”

TEVIN FARMER BRINGS REAL-LIFE ROCKY STORY TO BROADWAY

Farmer weighs in
New York, NY (3/25/16) – Next Wednesday, March 30th, DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing returns to the famed B.B. King Blues Club and Grill in midtown Manhattan. In the main event bout of the evening, former friends turned crosstown rivals Chris Galeano (10-0, 1KO) and DeVaun Lee (6-2, 3KO’s) will battle it out for New York bragging rights as well as Galeano’s New York State (NYS) middleweight crown when the two meet in a scheduled 10-rounder.

In the co-feature bout, red-hot contender Tevin Farmer (20-4-1, 5KO’s) is determined to impress in his NYC debut when he takes on tough Mexican veteran Gamaliel Diaz (39-13-3, 18KO’s). Farmer versus Diaz is scheduled for 10 rounds with the vacant NABF junior lightweight title on the line.

“I can’t wait to finally get back in the ring on March 30th, in my NYC debut, and with the opportunity to put that NABF championship belt around my waist,” said Farmer. “I have been in the gym every day, never taking my eyes off the prize. I know my fans want and expect nothing but the best from me and that is exactly what they are going to get next Wednesday night.”

It is hard to think of a fighter in recent memory that has made such a drastic turnaround in their career that Farmer has had. The Philadelphia-native lost his pro debut in 2011, and saw his record stand at an uninspiring 7-4-1 following a loss to current IBF 130lb. champion Jose Pedraza in October 2012. Following the loss to Pedraza, which, like many of Farmer’s previous fights, he took on less than two weeks notice, Farmer refocused himself and soon after began to make his successful run.

Fast-forward three years and 13 impressive wins later and the now 25-year-old Farmer has not only emerged as one of the prospects he was once put in against to test but as a legitimate title contender. Ranked #14 in the WBC world ratings, Farmer is coming off his most impressive victory to date, an eighth-round KO over former world title challenger Daulius Prescott in August of last year. During his 13-bout win streak, Farmer also impressively defeated unbeaten foes Emanuel Gonzales (14-0), Angel Luna (10-0-1) and Camilo Perez (9-0), as well as prospects Viktor Chernous (15-1-1) and Noel Echevarria (11-1).

The bout next Wednesday is an extremely important one for Farmer. By picking up the NABF title, it will likely propel him into the top-10 of the WBC ratings.

The impressive winning streak is not the only reason why many in the 130lb. division are avoiding him, it is also the manner in which he has been notching those victories. Farmer has lightning quick hands, flawless footwork and cat-like reflexes. He mixes his boxing and countering with an aggressive come-forward style, and is not afraid to stand toe-to-toe either. His knockout power is also much better than indicated by his knockout-to-win ratio, as evidenced by his victory over Prescott, in which he dropped the Colombian twice before knocking him out with a single shot in the eighth round. In fact, Farmer’s recent performances have been more and more dominant, and he knows that he has what it takes to not only compete against the elite junior lightweights but also to one day rule the division.

“It’s been a long road to get to this point, but I am nowhere near the end of it,” Farmer continued. “Someone is going to have to pay for all of this hard work, so once I finally get that opportunity to showcase myself against one of these top guys, they are in for a lot of trouble. I deserve my shot. To be where I was, and to come all this way, I deserve an opportunity. Lou DiBella has done a great deal for me, and now it’s time to make a push to get that world title opportunity. Winning this NABF title is a major step in that direction.”

“Tevin Farmer’s story is an inspiring one,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “To bring himself from the brink of becoming a journeyman opponent to now being considered a potential world title challenger is truly remarkable. Having the kind of heart and determination he has continually shown combined with his tremendous skills is a dangerous combination. Winning the NABF title is the first step toward his ultimate goal of becoming a world champion and I will do all I can to get him that opportunity.”

Tickets for the Broadway Boxing event are currently on sale and are priced at $125, $100, $75 and $55. Tables are also available for purchase for this event, with VIP tables going for $1,000 per table (5 seats at $200 per seat), Ringside tables for $500 (5 seats at $100), and $375 tables (5 seats at $75). Tickets are available for purchase by calling the DiBella Entertainment office at (212) 947-2577. Doors open at 6:30pm with the first bout scheduled for 7:00pm.

Jordan Shimmell is moving up in the rankings

After his most recent victory on February 27, 2016, Jordan Shimmell, 20-1 with 16 KOs, has been moving up in the rankings. Jordan is currently #13 in the IBF world rankings and #1 in the USBA’s United States rankings. Jordan is looking forward to another fight in the next few months and hopes a victory in that bout will propel him to a top 5 world ranking and a shot at a world title.

Jordan Shimmell turned pro less than 4 years ago and quickly moved up the rankings. Jordan has a very high knockout percentage of 76% but of Jordan’s 20 victories only 2 bouts went the distance. Two opponents were getting hurt by Jordan’s punches and deliberately fouled Jordan repeatedly so they would get disqualified rather than knocked out. Had those two bouts been ruled TKO’s instead of DQ’s with a referee waiving the fight off when the opponent was hurt rather than disqualifying him, Jordan would have 18 knockouts out of his 20 victories. Jordan has quick footwork and quick punches but he also has very hard power punches including devastating body punches.

Jordan has been training hard while waiting for his next bout to get scheduled. He is sparring undefeated pro cruiserweights and heavyweights and also some top super-middleweights and light-heavyweights to work on his own speed against the lighter boxers. He will often spar 10 or more rounds against 3 or 4 sparring partners who alternate every couple of rounds so they stay “fresh” in order to push their pace while sparring Jordan. The hard work Jordan consistently puts in at the gym should pay big dividends in the future.

Besides Jordan Shimmell’s #13 IBF world ranking, he is also ranked #46 in the world by the IBO. Besides being ranked #1 in the United States by the USBA, Jordan is also in the top 15 in the rankings published by the NABA, NABF and NABO organizations. Jordan is one of the top cruiserweight prospects in the world.

Here’s what the fighters said Thursday:

REGIS PROGRAIS

“This is my biggest fight. We’ve been in the gym for two months getting ready. We’re sparring with every style, anything it takes to get me ready.

“I had a whole lot fun in my last fight because (Abel) Ramos just kept coming. I’m fighting a veteran, a different kind of guy tomorrow. He’s tough with the Mexican style so I expect him to be smart and know all the tricks.

“Herrera is coming with nothing to lose, but I love fighting the Mexican style. I’ve been training in Houston, so he won’t bring anything I haven’t seen before.

“I can be a slick southpaw or I can brawl. I just love to fight, which is why I started in boxing. My mindset is to bang and fight, when it comes down to it. Sometimes if I don’t hit I get bored so I mix it up a little more so I will get hit and then I can come back. I can adjust to any style.

“This is my third fight on ShoBox and second main event. I welcome the pressure but at the same time I know I have to ignore it and just enjoy and have fun in there.

“Mentally, I feel I am ready for a major fight against any of the top contenders, but I know those kinds of fights are still a little down the line for me. I still have a lot of work to do; I need to keep pounding it until I get it all right.

“I’m looking forward to a good fight tomorrow.’’

AARON HERRERA

“This is an interesting fight because we’re both coming up in the sport. I’ve seen a few of his fights and know what I’m up against. It looks like Prograis likes to come forward and comes to fight, and I will do the same, although I am probably more of a boxer than a slugger.

“This is about taking care of business. I’ve been 12 rounds before. I’ve fought some good fighters with good records. This is only my second fight in America but I learned a lot from the first one and that will definitely help me. I have more confidence. This won’t be a new experience for me.

“I’ve fought with left-handers before so after a couple of rounds, I’m sure I’ll feel comfortable. I’m definitely coming to win. I can’t wait to hear the opening bell ring.’’

IVAN BARANCHYK

“This is 100 percent the best guy we’ve faced. Nick is a great fighter and we can’t underestimate him. We know that anything can happen in boxing. I put the work in the gym and now I need to do my job in the ring.

“I’m a puncher, I like to bring it and I’m coming for the knockout.

“I’m only 23 but I work very hard and feel I’m coming along. I’m in the gym all the time. One of the main things we work on the most is composure inside the ring. I feel like I’m settling down more and working the jab, but it is still something we work on.

“You just can’t go in and knock everybody out. It’s not that easy. You need to set up your punches sometimes. I am never going to change from being a natural puncher, my team is not trying to take away the fire in me, they just want me to settle down.’’

NICK GIVHAN

“This is a big opportunity and I feel blessed to be getting it, but it’s something I’ve been working towards for years. I feel this is where I’m supposed to be at this stage of my career. I just need to get in the ring to make sure I handle my business in the ring

“He’s definitely one of the toughest opponents I’ve faced. He’s big, powerful and hits hard the whole fight. But I’m the toughest he’s faced.

“This shapes up as a boxer versus puncher fight that favors me. He may come out jabbing at first, but once he’s touched he can be frustrated. That’s what I will take advantage of, his over-aggressiveness.

“I’m looking forward to seizing the moment tomorrow night.’’

IVAN GOLUB

“I’m very excited to be on this card and looking forward to fighting on my first ShoBox card. This is a big step up and it’s going to be a great fight.

“When I got the chance to fight on ShoBox, I didn’t even ask who I was fighting. I spar with some of the best out there (Ievgen Khytrov, Sergey Derevanchenko, etc.). But I’m more of a boxer-puncher than some of my teammates.

“I work very hard. I study boxing a lot. I know my time is coming. As long as I show good boxing skills, the knockout will come.”

MARLON AQUAS

“You have to be careful with hungry fighters you don’t know anything about, but I’m going to give 100 percent in there. I’m here to show that I have what it takes to become a world champion.

“I am very motivated. This is my first fight in the U.S. and on SHOWTIME so I’m looking to make a statement. I know that after this fight a lot of doors will open. People may not know me now, but they will know me after tomorrow night.

“I have a lot of movement but can also stand there toe to toe and brawl. They are making a mistake taking a step up and fighting me. They don’t know what they’re getting into.

“I’ve been off because of an injury to my left hand but it is totally healed and I am ready. I’ve had lots of sparring.

“I’m more of a stylist, a boxer. I like to move around a lot. But if I have to go at it and brawl I will. I really want to show the fans that I am worthy of watching again.’’

DILLON COOK

“This will be my toughest fight but I’m feeling great. I’m excited but not all that nervous. There is some pressure fighting on TV the first time, but it hasn’t been nerve-racking.

“This is such a big fight; I’m ready for anything he brings. I’m not trying to over-think anything. I just want to do what I do.

“This is a home game for me. I live about 25 minutes away. So it helps that I’m used to the atmosphere and don’t have to travel.

“I’ve seen a little of him. I feel the things he does all the time will work against him. His come-forward style is a good one for me. I’ve had plenty of time to prepare (five weeks) so there will not be any surprises.

“I believe I have the skills to go a lot father, so I want to leave a good impression.

“Speed and footwork are my biggest weapons. I’ve been dazed before, but not knocked down.’’

JUSTIN DELOACH

“Everything to this point has been a blessing for me. This is definitely a big fight and I’m looking forward to doing what I do and putting on a great show. I haven’t seen a lot of Dillon but he is undefeated and is coming to win. I’m ready for whatever he brings.

“I feel I have a lot of raw talent that has yet to be seen. My main thing is to take control of the fight from the start.

“This is so exciting. My biggest and most important fight yet. If I do what I’m supposed to I’ll be OK. This is my first eight-rounder but I’m not worried about that at all.

“We’re part of a great ShoBox show. I can’t wait.’’

Barry Tompkins will call the ShoBox action from ringside with Steve Farhood and former world champion Raúl Márquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

Undefeated rising star Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr., former world champion Chris Algieri, cruiserweight world champion Krzysztof Glowacki, former cruiserweight champion Steve “U.S.S.” Cunningham, unbeaten 2012 U.S. Olympian “Sir” Marcus Browne and undefeated light heavyweight Radivoje Kalajdzic spoke to media in advance of their primetime showdowns on NBC, with televised coverage beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by DiBella Entertainment in association with Star Boxing, start at $25, not including applicable fees, and are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased online by visiting www.ticketmaster.com, www.barclayscenter.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. Tickets are also available at the American Express Box Office at Barclays Center. Group discounts are available by calling 844-BKLYN-GP.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday:

ERROL SPENCE JR.

“This is a great opportunity for me. It’s another step in my career to get to where I want to be, which is a world title fight.

“Camp is going great. I’m on weight and I’m looking forward to a putting on a great, one-sided performance on April 16.

“I have something to prove. I believe I’m one of the top talents in the sport but I have to prove myself in this fight. There are a lot of questions that need answering. April 16 I have to prove myself and I’m ready for it.

“Going from prospect to contender is a leap, but you have to go through it. There’s a lot expected from me. This is what I have to do to get into that top-five level.

“Chris has a lot of heart. He’s gritty. I know he’s going to come to fight and make it a real entertaining fight.

“I don’t put any pressure on myself. I’m training harder than ever but I’ll come in like it’s any other fight. I’m ready to put on a great show.

“I want to fight at least three times this year. As long as I’m healthy and everything is going well, I want to stay active. I don’t want to wait around for an opponent. I want to get in the ring and stay winning.”

CHRIS ALGIERI

“We’re looking forward to putting on another great performance. I’ve had some of my best performances at Barclays and this is going to be another.

“I’m getting more and more excited as we get to fight night. I’m really looking forward to April 16.

“This kid wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t a good fighter. There’s a lot of pressure on him. It’s a very difficult task to go from prospect to contender. It’s not easy to make that jump. You have to be careful taking big leaps. I believe that this is a huge leap.

“I’ve been in the ring with big guys and hard-hitters. Styles make fights but it’s all about matchups. Boxing is a rhythm sport. You have to be in with a guy and see how the styles mesh.

“I fought at 147 and 154 when I kick-boxed so I’ve been in the ring with those bigger guys. I’ve never had a problem with size.”

KRZYSZTOF GLOWACKI

“I’m so happy to be able to fight again in the United States and I’m going to deliver another great fight. I hope both the Polish and American fans are going to be there for this explosive fight.

“I’m absolutely ready to come to the United States and defend my title.

“It was very frustrating to have the injuries that I had. I couldn’t do anything. The silver lining is that I’m so unbelievably hungry to return. I’m even hungrier than usual.

“My reception back home after the Huck fight was unbelievable. When I arrived from the airport there were people with flowers and I got a police escort to my hometown. It’s an unbelievable feeling to be a world champion. I want to have this feeling again when I return. I was relatively unknown but now people approach me on the streets and it’s a great feeling to have.”

STEVE CUNNINGHAM

“I’m excited to have another opportunity at a world title in the cruiserweight division. I’m always ready, I’m always prepared and in the gym.

“Glowacki is a formidable foe. He made a big splash in his U.S. debut and people will want to see if he can live up to that. We’re going to get together and make some fireworks.

“This isn’t new territory for me just a new opponent. We don’t look past anybody and we’re ready for this one. It’s war time.

“I know he’s driven, but I’m driven also. I’ve fought all over the world. It’s new fighting close to home, but it’s still going to feel like Poland in Barclays Center. Well I’ve fought in Poland before, so we’re just going to take everything from camp and bring it to the fight.”

MARCUS BROWNE

“This is just another step for me on the road to becoming world champion. Everyone wants to make it seem like he is the best fighter I’ve ever faced. April 16 we will see.

“I see what I see from ‘Hot Rod’. He’s young, he’s undefeated and he doesn’t want to lose his 0. I’m going to take care of it in the ring.

“These kind of fights are essential for both of us and that will cause fireworks. He wasn’t on my radar before but come April 16 we’ll both be on each other’s radar for sure.

“Is he the best opponent I’ve faced in a professional fight? Yes. But this isn’t the best guy I’ve been in the ring with. April 16 I’m going to take care of my business in the ring. That’s how we converse in boxing.

“You can’t go in there thinking that what you did in the amateurs makes you a great pro. It’s two totally different games. I’ve been in there with a lot of good guys from a young age.”

RADIVOJE KALAJDZIC

“I’m happy to be fighting at Barclays Center on a great show. I’m just ready to fight and I hope Marcus Browne is too.

“I’ve worked with Keith Thurman before and gotten in the ring with him since we both train down in St. Petersburg, Florida. It’s real good work. He’s a great fighter.

“Marcus obviously has speed and power. I won’t tell you his weaknesses but if you watch on fight night, I’ll show you.

“We’re mostly focused on what I’m going to do. We’re working on our game plan and we’ll get in there and exploit his weaknesses.

“I’m excited to be fighting in Brooklyn. I’ve fought in my hometown and I’m excited to have the crowd against me. It’s only going to be him and me in the ring.”

King’s Promotions signs undefeated Super Middleweight Devar Ferhedi

Ferhadi signs
READING, PA (March 24, 2016)–Marshall Kauffman’s King’s Promotions is proud to announce the signing of undefeated super middleweight Devar Ferhadi.

Ferhadi of Frederick, Maryland was born in Iraq, and has amassed a perfect mark of 6-0 with five knockouts.

Ferhadi maybe one of the unique stories in the sport as he spends about eight months out of the year as a third year medical student in Kurdastad, Iraq.

“I look to get into General Medicine and then possibly Neurology or Emergency medicine,” said Ferhardi about his medical studies.

“I am happy to sign someone who understands my situation that I am only here in the United States during March/April and July/August.”

The 21 year-old began fighting at age 14 and went 10-2. He lost in an Olympic qualifying tournament.

He started coming to the United States and his whole family still resides in Iraq.

“My parents came here under the dictatorship. Kurdastad is an ally to the United States. The have been some scary moments, but I do not have any concerns about safety.”

It is difficult for the young Ferhadi to get good training while he is in school so far away.

“When I am over there in Iraq, I mostly can do fitness and conditioning. I can do some things that help me with my technical ability.”

Said King’s Promotions, Marshall Kauffman, “Devar is a very good prospect and he more than holds his own with the great fighters in the D.C. area in the gym. I want to thank Ross Molovinsky in making this happen for King’s Promotions. Devar has an amazing story and he can really fight, so we believe that he has a great upside to do major things in the sport.”

ANDRE WARD VS. SULLIVAN BARRERA UNDERCARD MEDIA WORKOUTS AT KING’S GYM QUOTES

OAKLAND, CA (March 24, 2015) – On Thursday, March 24, fighters featured on the Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) vs. Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KOs) undercard participated in a media workout at King’s Gym in Oakland, California in advance of their March 26 fights at Oracle Arena in Oakland.

Participating in the workout were Roc Nation Sports’ boxing standouts including NABO Junior Welterweight Champion Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (19-0-2, 14 KOs) of Oak Cliff, Texas; undefeated Daniel “Twitch” Franco (12-0-3, 7 KOs) of Rancho Cucamonga, California; unbeaten prospect from Salinas, California Rudy “The Revelation” Puja Jr. (7-0, 6 KOs); and undefeated Junior “The Young God” Younan (7-0, 6 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York. Also in attendance were Chinese Olympic Silver Medalist Zhang “Big Bang” Zhilei (7-0, 5 KOs) and local Hayward, California favorite Aaron Coley (12-1-1, 6 KOs).

Hooker faces Wilfrido “La Roca” Buelvas (17-5, 11 KOs) of Barranquilla, Colombia in a ten-round junior welterweight bout, Franco meets Mexican veteran German “Panteonero” Meraz (52-37-1, 30 KOs) in an eight-round featherweight fight, Puga Jr. looks to extend his undefeated streak against Carlos “Kalimba” Lozano (7-5, 4 KOs) of Ensenada, Mexico in a six-round super middleweight clash, Younan returns to the ring on March 26 after a nine-month layoff to take on Cristian Solorzano (4-7, 3 KOs) of Sonora, Mexico in a four-round light heavyweight fight, Zhang takes on Tyree Ortiz (5-2, 4 KOs) of Los Angeles in a four round heavyweight battle and Coley faces a very stern test in a six-round middleweight fight against Urmat Ryskeldiev (11-3-2, 7 KOs) of West Hollywood, California.

After shadow boxing around in the ring and a few rounds on the punching bag, all fighters participated in interviews with media members in attendance.

Below is what the fighters had to say during the media workout:

MAURICE “MIGHTY MO” HOOKER, NABO Junior Welterweight Champion:

“I had a good camp. I’m ready to get in the ring and show everybody what Maurice Hooker is about.

“I’m a boxer. I love using my jab. If I can, I’ll beat you up with my jab, but I’m always going for the knockout with the big right hand. In camp, I’ve been working on my left hook, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I knock him out with my left hook in the early rounds.

“I think a lot of people don’t want to fight me, especially people with the belts. They’ve got a lot to lose when they fight me. I’ve got everything to gain and nothing to lose. I just want to be the best. I want the best. Whoever is next, I’m ready.

“I want to be number one. I’m going to do whatever it takes to get there, so everybody watch out for me, I’m coming. Everyone’s a dead man.”

DANIEL “TWITCH” FRANCO, Undefeated Featherweight Prospect:

“My family is very supportive. They support pretty much every decision that I make. My team is here for my best interest within the sport and for my safety, which is why I have my dad in my corner. He has been training me since I was a kid and it has been going very well. Every road that we have taken has been the right one. I’m pretty excited to see what Saturday will be like.

“I’m here to fight and to perform in front of a crowd. I’m here for Roc Nation Sports…to represent them and myself.

“Within these next couple of years, I want to be better known. I want to be well known for my boxing, but they say that boxing is a business first and a sport second. You have to have a good face to represent the business and I think that I have that.

“I’m going to win on Saturday night. My hands are going to go up. I’m very well prepared and I’m going to stick to the game plan. I’m going to listen to my corner and I’m going to do my best.”

RUDY “THE REVELATION” PUJA JR., Undefeated Middleweight Prospect:

“Training camp went great. I can say the running, the training in the gym, the sparring, my diet…everything went great. Everything was on point.

“I feel like an underdog, but it’s exciting for me. It feels like we are right in my backyard. I’m just happy to be here right now and especially to be on Andre Ward’s undercard. That’s a good blessing for me.

“There have been so many bumps in the road, but now my path is just going to go straight on. I may face more bumps, but I am ready for those bumps. I went through everything at the beginning and now I’m mentally stronger and I’m here to support my family. So, I’m ready for anything that hits me.

“I have a lot to prove. I’m just going to keep my head up high and keep doing what I’m doing. Saturday is going to be an awesome fight. My opponent is a very strong fighter, and I’m not going to take him lightly just because there are losses here and there. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t have two hands. I am just going to keep doing what I was doing in my training camp and come out with the win.

“I get to show the people in Salinas that anything you put your mind to is possible. It’s another good opportunity that I am going to have. Without Roc Nation Sports, without the fans, we wouldn’t be here right now.

“I’m going to work hard to keep proving and proving myself so that one day, I’ll be where Andre is right now. That’s my goal…to be a world champion one day.”

JUNIOR “THE YOUNG GOD” YOUNAN, Undefeated Super Middleweight Prospect:

“It’s been a beautiful, long camp. I got some great sparring. Got to spar Chad Dawson and Delvin Rodriguez. It’s amazing learning from these guys…how to control the pace and how to control my distance. We got great work and I’m ready. I’m ready to shine.

“Saturday will result in a victory. I’m not going to tell you how, but it’s going to happen amazingly. I have to give the Bay Area a show. Steph Curry is lighting it up at Oracle and I’m going to do the same.”

ZHANG “BIG BANG” ZHILEI, Chinese Olympic Silver Medalist:

“I trained hard for this fight and I would like to thank Roc Nation Sports and my trainer Diego. I hope that everybody enjoys the fight. I’m ready.

“This training cycle before the fight was very good and I can say successful. My trainer was very dedicated and I listened to him in the gym. I now have a strength and conditioning trainer and he was very good too.

“It’s my biggest honor to represent China and to stand in a professional ring in America. This is my biggest honor and I will fight for it.”

AARON COLEY:

“I’m at home. I’ve got to show off in my backyard. Plain and simple, I’ve got all my fans coming up to support me from everywhere, so I’ve got to show up.

“Our opponent, Urmat Ryskeldiev, is a tough competitor. He’s got the pedigree. He comes from Europe but he’s training at Wild Card. He’s a tough dude, but I’m ready, I’m in my own backyard and I’m not worried about anything.”

Boxing legend Chavez backing Ramirez to beat ‘great champion’ Abraham

julio-cesar-chavez
Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez is backing Gilberto Ramirez (33-0, 24 KOs) to dethrone WBO World Super Middleweight Champion Arthur Abraham (44-4, 29 KOs) on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

While hosting his ESPN show ‘A Los Golpes’, the former six-time World Champion told Ramirez: ‘’I have a lot of faith in you. I believe you will win the fight but you have to take advantage of your height and youth because Arthur Abraham is a great champion!’’

Despite his prediction, Abraham, who is aiming for a sixth successive defence of his WBO title, was flattered by Chavez’s remarks.

‘’I love this man. He was a real warrior who would give everything in the ring,’’ said ‘King Arthur’. ‘’He is one of my boxing idols so it means a lot for him to call me a great champion. However, I must disappoint him on April 9, by beating his countryman Ramirez.’’

One man confident Abraham’s Las Vegas debut will prove successful is his coach Ulli Wegner, who believes Ramirez’s lack of experience will be the deciding factor.

‘’A fight like this is won in the mind, and for Ramirez, there are still a lot of questions he must answer,’’ said Wegner. ‘’This is his first World title fight. Can he handle the pressure? Can he master his tactics over twelve rounds? All this remains to be seen.’’

For the defending champion there is no question of his bravery as he travels into enemy territory to face the undefeated Mexican, using as his motto: ‘’ Mejor morir de pie que vivir arrodillado!’’ (Translated: It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees!)

Arthur Abraham defends his WBO World Super Middleweight title against Gilberto Ramirez on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s farewell fight with Timothy Bradley on April 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

BROOK: I KNOW HOW HUNGRY BIZIER IS TO WIN

Kell Brook
Kell Brook says he knows that mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier will be desperate to get his hands on his IBF World Welterweight title when they meet at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

The Sheffield star landed the title as mandatory challenger himself, putting in a career best performance in ripping the belt from Shawn Porter in California in August 2014.

Brook has already defended the title against one Canadian mandatory challenger in Jo Jo Dan a year ago in the Steel City, and now meets Bizier, who would become Quebec City’s first World champion with victory.

Since Brook was forced out of a defence against dangerous Argentine Diego Chaves in November, talk of a major fight in the summer has been rife, but ‘The Special One’ says that while others have been talking, his focus has been solely on taking care of business on Saturday.

“You cannot take your eye of the ball,” said Bizier. “Kevin is the mandatory challenger, he’s worked hard to get that shot and he deserves it. If I had looked past him and cut corners, you get found out. This is my belt, no-one is taking it from me and I have to be at my best. It’s all well and good saying that I want the big names but without putting on an explosive masterclass against Bizier I won’t get those fights.

“This is my hometown, my arena and my fans – no-one packs an Arena like I do here with these great fans, and I am going to make sure that my return to this place is going to be stylish. He’s getting in with the best and he’s got his work cut-out.

“The IBF don’t mess about, you have to take your mandatory challengers and rightly so – that’s how I won this belt. I got injured with the leg in the knife attack so I had to fight Jo Jo Dan then I boxed Frankie Gavin at The O2 in a voluntary. He’d wanted the fight for a while so we got it on in a great night in London. Chaves was meant to be next and that would’ve been a tough fight but the injury means anther mandatory. So opponent-wise, it’s been hard, but I want a unification fight next or something similarly huge to get people into a stadium watching me fight.

“I’m desperate to have an old fashioned war on Saturday. Kevin is a strong come-forward fighter and I want to excited everyone who comes on Saturday with a war. I’m so excited to get in there in front of my fans. I just want to get weighed-in, get fed, and then get to work.

“My mind has been on the job in hand for months and months, Saturday night is about breaking Kevin Bizier’s heart and his bones.

“I have to prove that I am the champion. I have to look good in the fight, I believe I’m the best in the planet and it’s time to prove that. I’m 30 this year, I want to show people that I am the best and I am ready to have massive fights once I take care of business.”

Brook’s clash with Bizier is part of a huge night in boxing in Sheffield as Hull’s Olympic gold medal star Luke Campbell MBE returns to action in a Yorkshire derby with Dewsbury’s Gary Sykes for the vacant Commonwealth Lightweight title.

Sheffield Middleweight Adam Etches is back in action, Sheffield Heavyweight Dave Allen faces American Jason Gavern and Andy Townend meets Craig Poxton for the English Super-Featherweight title.

Tickets priced at £40, £60, £80, £100 and £150 are on sale now from the Sheffield Arena on 0114 2565656 and at www.sheffieldarena.co.uk. VIP tickets priced at £250 are exclusively available from www.matchroomboxing.com.

Tickets for March 26 are also available from http://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets/ – StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing.

TWO-TIME WORLD CHAMPION ANDRE WARD VS. UNDEFEATED SULLIVAN BARRERA NABF FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPION JOSEPH DIAZ JR. VS. JAYSON VELEZ FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

WARDCut
OAKLAND, CA (March 23, 2015) – On Wednesday, March 23, Roc Nation Sports hosted the final press conference for Two-Time World Champion and top-rated pound-for-pound fighter Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) and number one rated IBF light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KOs) at Lake Merritt Amphitheater in Oakland, California in advance of their March 26 fight at Oracle Arena in Oakland. Ward and Barrera will meet in 12-round IBF number one position and mandatory position eliminator bout televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing® beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT. NABF Featherweight Champion Joseph “Jojo” Diaz Jr. (19-0, 11 KOs) and top-rated featherweight contender Jayson “La Maravilla” Velez (23-1-1, 16 KOs) were also in attendance on the press conference dais overlooking Lake Merritt ahead of their 10-round NABF Featherweight title fight which will open up the HBO telecast.

Ward vs. Barrera is shaping up to be a highly contested battle between two fighters who both have their sights set on a match-up against Unified Light Heavyweight World Champion Sergey Kovalev.

Below is what the fighters, promoters, trainers, managers and other dais guests had to say at the press conference:

ANDRE WARD, Two-Time World Champion and top-rated pound-for-pound fighter:

“I want to thank everyone for coming out as usual. The Bay Area is a beautiful place. We don’t often get enough credit for the talent that comes out of here, but for the fan base, it’s tremendous. I’m just thankful for being from a place like this and thankful to have the love and support at every event that we bring here. I’m thankful that myself and guys like Marshawn Lynch, Damian Lillard and the Warriors put this place on the map and people are taking notice on the national stage. That is really important to me.

“As far as the fight itself, it’s very simple to me…anybody who knows me, they know how I work and they know how I tick. I don’t get caught up in what’s next. I don’t get caught up in what people are saying. I’m aware of what is being said. I know what my opponent has been saying and I take him at his word. I’ve done everything that I’m supposed to do, like I always do and like I’ve done the last 10 years of my career. I’ve taken on the best… if it’s not another champion then it’s a top contender… and this is no different. You guys just know that I’m focused and locked in like I always am. I’m prepared and I’m ready for war come March 26.”

SULLIVAN BARRERA, Number one rated IBF light heavyweight contender:

“I wanted to say thank you for coming here. I want to say thank you HBO, thank you everyone. Thank you Andre Ward for accepting my fight. I promise everyone who comes to the arena that I have had great preparation and this is a great dream. On that night, I’ll have a great show for everyone.”

DAVID ITSKOWITCH, COO Boxing – Roc Nation Sports:

“Two of the top light heavyweights on the planet will collide on March 26. They have a combined record of 45-0 with 27 KOs and needless to say, neither has tasted defeat as a professional. While each man has a formidable opponent in front of him, they both have their eyes on Sergey Kovalev and his three world title belts, but first they have business to attend to on Saturday night.

“Whenever I come out to Oakland for an event and I’m with Andre at a function where he’s speaking to the media, it strikes me that obviously, he is a special talent athletically, but he’s also a special person and I hope everyone here in Oakland understands and appreciates that. He’s a principled family man who always tries to do the right thing and that is something that is rare in life these days, but it is especially rare in sports. I hope you guys appreciate him. Boxing careers don’t last forever. He’s not going to be fighting forever, so everyone should appreciate what you have here in Andre Ward.

“Andre captured a gold medal at the Athens Olympics and is the last U.S. boxer to have done so. His list of vanquished foes reads like a who’s who of the super middleweight division. He also dominated and knocked out former light heavyweight world champion, Chad Dawson in their 2012 showdown. In his last fight, he dominated two-time world title challenger Paul Smith on June 20 at Oracle Arena. He embarks on the next chapter of his career on March 26, returning to Oracle Arena once again, as he makes his move up to the light heavyweight division ready to do what he did in the super middleweight division…cleaning it out and dominating everyone that stands in his way.”

NICOLE DUVA, Vice President of Marketing and General Counsel – Main Events:

“I would really like to thank Andre Ward. He didn’t have to take on an undefeated fighter in his first fight at light heavyweight, but he did it and I think that is commendable.

“In his last fight, Sullivan became the mandatory contender for Sergey Kovalev’s IBF belt. He could have sat back and waited for his title fight, but instead he saw this fight against Andre Ward as an opportunity to really reach for greatness and he did that. As you all know, Main Events and Roc Nation Sports have big plans for Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev later this year and Sullivan Barrera can really upset that apple cart.

“Both of these men, Sullivan and Andre, have everything riding on the outcome of Saturday’s fight. In the climate that we have in boxing right now, it’s refreshing to see real warriors who aren’t afraid to take risks. They both deserve our respect and admiration for that. This is what our sport should be about.

“Sullivan Barrera is undefeated with a record of 17-0 with 12 wins coming by way of knockout. He just turned 34, a month ago, which you might think is a little old for this point in his career. What you might not know is that he had a successful amateur career in Cuba and then lost several years of his prime while he was defecting to the United States. He’s come a really long way to be here today for this moment and this opportunity. He is hungry, he is confident and he is ready.”

VIRGIL HUNTER, Andre Ward’s trainer:

“This is a fantastic card with fantastic athletes who are trying to make their way in the world of boxing. If this fight was taking place in any other city, it would be a huge event. What we want to do is make sure that Oakland understands, and that the surrounding Bay Area understands, the magnitude of this event so we can continue to bring world class boxing to Oakland. Oakland is a breeding ground for top fighters and we already have them. The more that you support us, the more that these fights will become visible and you will see the big time at the top.

“They say other networks make fighters, but HBO makes stars, so we are glad to be part of this. We ask you to come out and support this fight. Come on out Saturday night and enjoy yourselves for a good night of top boxing.”

BEN LIRA, Sullivan Barrera’s Trainer:

“I want to thank all of the people who put together this super event on Saturday. We are here to put on a great show and Sullivan has done everything to prepare himself for this event. He knows the challenges in front of him, but he believes in himself and he believes that this is his time to show the public and the viewing audience that this is where he is. He is there to make a statement.

“More than anything, we respect Mr. Ward for his achievements, his credibility and he is a super guy in the sport. It’s great to be part of this. We prepared well and we have done everything that we have to do come Saturday to give the viewing audience a super great show because this is what boxing is about. It is about performance and both fighters get to perform at this level at a great event. We are honored to be a part of this event. We have done everything that is possible to ensure that we will come out and put on a fabulous show.”

JAMES PRINCE, Andre Ward’s manager:

“This is a historical moment for us. We are entering the 175 pound light heavyweight division. This is a moment that the town doesn’t want to miss. This is the moment at the beginning of a movement. Barrera just happens to be the first victim and we’re going to deal with him accordingly. We’ve been hearing a lot of talk and conversation taking place where he is concerned, and we know that he believes everything that he is saying. Once again, we are excited about this opportunity and you don’t want to miss this historic moment on Saturday night.”

JOSEPH DIAZ JR., NABF Featherweight Champion:

“Come March 26, I know I have a really tough fight ahead of me. I know Jayson Velez is an experienced veteran in the ring. He’s a warrior. He has a six-inch reach advantage over me so it’s going to be a really great fight. I know he’s coming off of a loss, so I know he really wants to bounce back and show everybody that he’s still a world title contender.

“I had a really great training camp. I’ve been training for eight weeks. This is my first time fighting on HBO, so I really want to showcase who I truly am. I’m 110% ready. I’m ready to give fight fans a war if Jayson Velez wants to have a war. I’m ready to showcase to everybody all the abilities I have inside the ring. I’m very excited to be fighting on the Andre Ward and Sullivan Barrera card. They’re two elite athletes and I’m very honored to be the co-main event for this fight. Come March 26, I promise I’m going to give you a great show.”

JAYSON VELEZ, Top-rated featherweight contender:

“I want to thank God first, obviously he makes everything possible. I want to thank my promoters, Miguel Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions and my whole team. I don’t have too much to say besides that this is a great fight. Joseph comes to fight. I come to fight. We both want to win. We both take challenges. People keep asking me why I took this dangerous fight and the answer is easy…if I want to be the best, I have to fight the best. Joseph is one of the best.

“I lost my last fight, so I need to win. I want to win. I can’t tell you who’s going to win this fight because we both are great fighters and warriors. He’s Mexican, I’m Puerto Rican, and when you have a Puerto Rican and a Mexican in the same ring, you will see a war. You will see speed, power, everything in this fight. He’s a great fighter and I’m so excited. Thank you to everyone and stay tuned this Saturday and thank you to HBO of course.”

ROBERT DIAZ, Head Matchmaker – Golden Boy Promotions:

“Obviously the main event speaks for itself. You’ve got Andre Ward versus a young undefeated guy like Sullivan Barrera, but the co-main event is going to pit two young, hungry fighters against one another in Jayson Velez and Joseph Diaz. They’re both young. They’re both willing to take on the best fights, the toughest fights and proof of that is how easy it was to make this fight.

“I’m very excited about this fight. You don’t want to miss the 10 rounds for the NABF title.

“Jayson Velez is a young, hungry lion who wants to get back up on the stage and knows how significant a victory over Joseph Diaz is. He understood the opportunity to fight on HBO and on this tremendous card. I want to remind you of the character of Jayson Velez. In a day and age where a fighter that loses wants to take maybe a comeback or tune up, or two or three, before they take a high-risk fight and Jayson Velez is doing it right after. That shows he wants to get back on top and he knows what he has to do to get there…it has to be by stopping a top-level fighter like Joseph Diaz.”

RALPH HEREDIA, Joseph Diaz’s manager:

“It’s an honor to be here, a great opportunity and privilege to be given this opportunity to showcase a talented, 2012 Olympian. To Joseph, this is what we talked about, thank you for being patient, you are ready for the opportunity. We know what a special young man and talented man you are, but now the whole world will get to see on the big stage what a talent, what a real gentleman and what a fighter should be…like Joseph Diaz.

“What can I say about Jayson Velez? He’s a gentleman who knows what’s at stake and has experience. Believe me, you don’t want to miss this. Saturday, you must tune in. It’s going to be an action-packed fight.”

JOSE “CHE CHE” SANCHEZ, Jayson Velez’s trainer:

“I see Diaz as a great fighter, but I have Jayson in very good condition and he’s ready for the fight. I know it’s going to be a good fight because they are ready, and the same thing is true for my fighter Jayson Velez. He worked very hard for this fight and I know he’s ready for the fight.”

TONY WALKER, Director, HBO Sports:

“On behalf of our Executive Vice President Peter Nelson, we are very happy to be here in the Bay Area, with a great crowd and great boxing fans, as we look to bring you this doubleheader on Saturday night.

“It’s not easy pulling together a big boxing match and these teams have pulled together a great card from top to bottom, so even though all the fights won’t be on HBO, if you want to watch some great boxing, go to Oracle Arena and if you have to be at home, check it out on HBO.

“Throughout our 43 years of programming on HBO, boxing has always been an integral part of what we do. We’ve always prided ourselves on having the best fighters and the best matches, and we feel very good that this tradition will hold again as Andre Ward makes his 2016 debut in the ring. In the boxing ring, it’s never recommended that you overlook a hungry, undefeated fighter like we have in Sullivan Barrera, so I would like to welcome Sullivan to the network and thank him for taking on this challenge.

“Opening the TV telecast will be Joseph Diaz against Jayson Velez, two up-and-coming young guys, two young guns, who think they’re ready for the big stage. All in all, it’s going to be a great telecast, 9:45 PM ET we promise you an informative and entertaining night with our broadcast team.”

Ward vs. Barrera, a 12-round IBF number one position and mandatory position eliminator which is presented by Roc Nation Sports in association with Main Events, takes place Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. The event is sponsored by Corona Extra, Ticketmaster, Corporate Travel Management Solutions (ctms), Glad, Lyft, Zappos, BodyArmor, SAN Nutrition, Shoe Palace, The Waterfront Hotel and Visit Oakland. Broner took time during training to discuss his camp in the nation’s capital, his relationship with Easter Jr., his showdown with Theophane and more:

ADRIEN BRONER

“I love training camp in D.C. because it takes me out of my element. I can get rid of the distractions and focus on boxing. The team we have down here brings the best out of me.

“Every fight I tell young guys like Robert Easter Jr. to train like it’s the last fight of your career and the biggest fight of your career. For this fight, the main thing is that it’s just a bigger stage, no other difference.

“I know it’s going to be an electrifying atmosphere with a huge crowd. I’m coming to put on a show. I know that Ashley Theophane is coming to win. He’s not coming to lay down, but we’re ready for anything he can bring.

“Everybody has bad nights. The Porter fight was just one of my bad nights. But we’re back on track, we’re back to being a world champion and I will stay champion after April 1. It’s going to be a fantastic show.

“Floyd knows I can beat his fighter. At the end of the day, he’s doing what’s best for his fighter and that’s getting him a title shot. Boxing is always a punch away from a victory. Everybody has a chance to win but I know I will be victorious. We will put on a great show.

“When I’m not training I’ve been working on a lot of stuff outside of the ring with About Billions including my new app that just launched and our About Billions merchandise we’ll have on sale at the DC Armory fight night.

“The more I win, the more successful I am. I just have to do my thing in the ring and everything will come together.

“All I can say is is don’t blink. Don’t go to the concession stand. It’s going to be an exciting show.”

Corcoran, gunning for his first title, hit the scales at 153.3lbs while Butler weighed in slightly lighter at 153.2lbs.

Corcoran said afterwards: “All the talking is done and now it’s time to get it on. I’ve been waiting for this fight a long time now and I’m buzzing to get in the ring. I’ve got a lot of respect for Danny but I’m expecting to win this one comfortably.”

Butler said: “Fighting away from home doesn’t bother me one bit. I’m a strong light-middleweight and quite big for this level, I feel like I can take my power down to this weight and do some damage. RIZIN FF Signs Daron Cruickshank and Huggy Bear, Announces Five More Fights

TOKYO – March 24, 2016– RIZIN FF, the combat sports promotion led by former PRIDE FC head Nobuyuki Sakakibara, announced during a press conference today, that it has inked five new, star-studded Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) bouts for its much-anticipated mega-event in Nagoya, Japan on Sunday, April 17, including a lightweight (155 pounds) contest between newly signed striking sensation Daron Cruickshank (16-8, 1 NC) and submission expert Shinji “Torao Supernova” Sasaki (16-8-3), as well as a heavyweight matchup between fellow knockout artists Chris “Huggy Bear” Barnett (14-2) and Kirill Sidelnikov (8-4)

In women’s open weight action, decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion and women’s MMA heavyweight prospect Gabi Garcia (1-0) will collide with two-time Pankration champion Anna Malyukova (1-0).

Recent RIZIN FF Grand Prix tournament semifinalist Teodoras Aukstuolis (8-3) will square off with former K-1 champion Jaideep “Heart” Singh (2-1 MMA; 40-10, 13 KO’s kickboxing) in a 216- pound catchweight fight.

Sambo world champion Vadim Nemkov (5-1) will take on undefeated, aggressive-minded striker and top Nordic prospect “King” Karl Albrektsson (4-0) in a light heavyweight (205 pounds) tilt.

Daron Cruickshank vs. Shinji Sasaki

Cruickshank of Wayne, Mich. will set foot in the RIZIN FF ring for the first time, following a 4-year, 13-fight stint with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) that included wins over rival stars Yves Edwards, Erik Koch and Anthony Njokuani.

A two-time NCAA Division III wrestling national qualifier for Olivet College and a second degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, the 5-foot-8, 30-year-old Cruickshank has gained admiration from fans worldwide with his set of explosive striking skills.

Sasaki of Hiroshima, Japan is a former Shooto Pacific Rim champion in the midst of a three-fight win streak. In his last start on March 12, the 5-foot-9, 35-year-old who has earned 10 of his 16 career wins by way of submission, scored a thunderous, 40-second TKO on Won Sik Park with a storm of punches.

Chris Barnett vs. Kirill Sidelnikov

With heavy hands, incredible agility for his massive physique and an eccentric personality that spawned his “Huggy Bear” moniker, Barnett of Tampa, Fla., has been making noise in the MMA world of late.

The 5-foot-9, 29-year-old who makes his ring entrances wearing a full-body bear suit and celebrates his victories by performing breakdance moves and cartwheels in the ring, has earned 12 of his 14 career wins to date by way of (T)KO. In his last start, he scored a first round TKO (punches) on Shinichi Suzukawa, in Tokyo on December 31

Sidelnikov of Stary Oskol, Russia is a 5-foot-11, 27-year-old former protégé of all-time MMA great Fedor Emelianenko. On December 29, he made his return to the ring after a five-year hiatus, scoring a devastating, first round (2:23) TKO (punches) on Carlos Toyota at the inaugural RIZIN FF event in Saitama, Japan.

Gabi Garcia vs. Anna Malyukova

A six-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion and ninth degree black belt, the 6-foot-2, 30-year-old Garcia of Los Angeles, Calif. via Sao Paulo, Brazil will return to the RIZIN FF ring for the second time after scoring a first round (2:36) TKO (punches) on Lei’d Tapa on December 31.

Malyukova of Penza, Penza Oblast, Russia is a former collegiate basketball star turned Russian MMA Championship and World Cup of MMA winner. After amassing a near unblemished, amateur career record of 7-1, Malyukova made her professional debut on September 26, 2015, earning a unanimous decision over Tatiana Portova.

Teodoras Aukstuolis vs. Jaideep “Heart” Singh

The 6-foot, 24-year-old Aukstuolis of Ukmerge, Lithuania is a national Judo champion who has been dubbed the “Lithuanian Werewolf” by Japanese fans who witnessed the young fighter use his aggressive style to knock out (punch) Bruno Henrique Cappelozza in the first round (3:32) of the RIZIN FF Grand Prix tournament’s quarterfinal stage of battle on December 29, 2015, before being ousted by eventual tournament champion “King Mo” Lawal in the semifinal round

All but one of Aukstuolis’ wins, thus far, have come by way of (T)KO or submission.

Singh of Punjab, India is a 6-foot-6, 28-year-old, former K-1 and RISE heavyweight kickboxing tournament champion who took his biggest risk to date when he stepped in the ring with Emelianenko in the main event of the RIZIN FF kick-off event on December 31, losing to the iconic Russian fighter by way of first round (3:02) TKO (punches).

Singh’s highest profile win to date came at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010 Final event in Tokyo, Japan when he scored a first round (2:58) KO on Russian superstar Sergei Kharitonov with a right hook.

Vadim Nemkov vs. Karl “King” Albrektsson

Another protégé of Emelianenko and the younger brother of M-1 Global light heavyweight kingpin Viktor Nemkov, the 23-year-old Vadim of Stary Oskol is a three-time national and 2014 world combat Sambo champion.

Nemkov reached the semifinal stage of the RIZIN FF Grand Prix tournament on December 29, finishing Goran Reljic by way of first round (2:58) TKO (punches) before being ousted from the eight-man playoff by Jiri Prochazka.

The 6-foot-2, 22-year-old Abrektsson of Sweden will make his RIZIN FF promotional debut as one of the hottest emerging forces in Europe. With a fearless, straightforward style of offense, the Pancrase Gym team member has finished all four of his professional opponents inside of two rounds, via (T)KO or submission.

Priced from 100,000 yen, tickets for “Top Presents RIZIN Fighting Federation I,” which takes place at Nippon Gaishi Hall, are on sale and can be purchased online at Ticketbis.com.

In the main event, former PRIDE FC middleweight champion and prolific superstar Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva (35-12-1, 1 NC) will team up with a fighter to be announced soon, in a special grappling “tag match,” and battle a duo consisting of fellow legend, Kazushi Sakuraba, (26-17-1, 2 NC) and Hideo Tokoro (33-28-2).

In a 180-pound MMA rules catchweight contest, devastating power puncher Hisaki Kato (5-2) will take on fellow finisher Yuta “Andre” Watanabe (19-6-4).

Returning to action for the first time in five years, beloved heavyweight Kazuyuki “Ol’ Ironhead” Fujita (15-10), will face recent RIZIN FF Grand Prix tournament runner-up and dangerous knockout artist Jiri “Denisa” Prochazka (16-3-1).

In flyweight (125 pounds) action, submission ace Allan “Puro Osso” Nascimento (14-3) will lock horns with red-hot champion Yuki Motoya (15-4, 1 NC).

SYKES MOTIVATED BY GATEKEEPER TAG AGAINST CAMPBELL

Gary Sykes has warned Luke Campbell MBE that he’s not fighting to make up the numbers and will hand him a second pro defeat as they clash for the vacant Commonwealth Lightweight belt at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

The Dewsbury ace steps up to Lightweight having held the British and English titles at Super-Featherweight. A clash with Liam Walsh for his British belt and the vacant Commonwealth strap ended in defeat and showed Sykes that he needed to move up, and he wants to prove he can make an impact at 135lbs and he’s no stepping-stone for Campbell.

“I don’t like the gatekeeper tag,” said Sykes. “I don’t think it reflects me or reflects what I am. I have too much balls to be a gatekeeper. When I boxed Liam Walsh I was dead at the weight and in the first round he put me down and I went through 12 hard rounds after being put down in the first. I could have just stayed down but I put myself through hell.

“I am under no illusions that they see me as a gatekeeper, but that isn’t what they going to get out of me. I am not there to make the numbers up and they’ll get the best of me that is possible.

“I thrive of being the underdog though. There is no pressure on me but there is pressure on Luke because he lost his last fight and has been over in Miami. His legs might get a bit tired in that fight with all the pressure on his shoulders.

“I stayed down at Super-Featherweight for too long. Before I was British Super-Featherweight champion I had been in Prizefighter at Lightweight. I beat Tommy Coyle, I beat World champion Anthony Crolla, and I thought I was unlucky against World champion Terry Flanagan, and that was all when I was Super-Featherweight, and I was beating Lightweights. Now I’m going to be a fully-fledged Lightweight and I’m excited to see what it can bring.”

Sykes’ clash with Campbell is part of a huge night of action in the Steel City as Sheffield favourite Kell Brook defends his IBF World Welterweight title against Canada’s Kevin Bizier.

“Boring? I’ll be the one making the fight on Saturday night,” Blackwell tells Eubank Jr.

LONDON (24 MARCH) British middleweight champion Nick ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell has scoffed in the face of Chris Eubank Jr.’s claims he’s ‘bland’ and ‘boring’ and promised to take the fight to him when they meet on Saturday night (March 26) at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

Blackwell and Eubank Jr. have become entangled in a war of words since their highly-anticipated fight was announced and the champion from Trowbridge is keen to expose the challenger’s true colours this weekend.

“Boring? I think it’s boring watching Chris Eubank Jr. is beat up opponents who are basically punch bags time and time again,” says Blackwell. “You might as well go to your local boxing gym and watch someone hit the heavy bag for a few rounds.

“That’s all Eubank Jr. brought to the table until Billy Joe Saunders schooled him. How is that exciting? How can he claim to be entertaining? He’s only had one or two proper fights in his whole pro career. I’ve had more interesting spars than he’s had fights.

“I’ve no idea how he can say I’m boring. I might not be the most technical fighter in the world, but I turn up and fight. I stand toe-to-toe and give as good as I get. I don’t take a step back from anyone. He’ll be the one trying to escape and run away on Saturday night.”

Eubank Jr., of course, believes he will meet Blackwell punch for punch and that his power – and, specifically, his uppercut – will separate the champion from his title within the scheduled distance. It’s a forecast Blackwell is unable to take seriously.

“Let him think he’s the bigger puncher,” he says. “When he gets in there with me and is breathing out of his arse and getting hit flush by me, he’ll realise I hit a lot harder than my record might suggest. He won’t want to be taking it on the chin from me in ten-ounce gloves. No chance.

“I’ve been hit by some big punchers and I know I’m tough.

‘Spike’ O’Sullivan is a fairly big puncher but he doesn’t punch in combination very much and he’s not as fast as me. He still had Eubank Jr. going at one stage. He had him hurt. When Eubank Jr. takes some clean shots from me, we’ll see what happens.

“Look at who I have fought and look at who he has fought. I’ve fought proper fighters. He has fought people who were dragged off the streets and persuaded to put on a pair of gloves and fight him.

“Well, on Saturday night he’s facing a proper fighter again. The last time he did that he got his arse kicked by Billy Joe Saunders.”

*** Tickets for the British middleweight title blockbuster between Nick ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell and Chris Eubank Jr. are priced at £35, £50, £75, £175, £200 and £250 for ringside and can be purchased online at ssearena.co.uk and axs.com or by phoning the SSE Arena, Wembley Box Office on 0844 815 0815 ***

LOS ANGELES (March XX, 2016) – Former welterweight world champions “Vicious” Victor Ortiz and Andre “The Beast” Berto, along with undefeated featherweight contender Jorge Lara and former world champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel, held a press conference in Los Angeles Wednesday to discuss their Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FOX & FOX Deportes showdowns taking place Saturday, April 30 from StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

The tripleheader of primetime action beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT also features an exciting light heavyweight showdown between Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez and Thomas “Top Dog” Williams Jr.

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are priced at $209, $105, $53 and $27, plus applicable taxes, fees and service charges, and are on sale now and available for purchase online at AXS.com.

The fighters held court at the Conga Room at L.A. Live and spoke about their respective matchups. Ortiz and Berto will tangle in a highly anticipated rematch of their 2011 battle, won by Ortiz, while the rising Lara and former champion Montiel meet in a crossroads fight that could launch the winner into title contention in a stacked featherweight division.

Here is what the participants had to say Wednesday:

VICTOR ORTIZ

“This is definitely the next chapter of my boxing career and I want to take full advantage of it. I’m healthy and I’m young and I’m still able to pull the trigger.

“Everyone said I was a ‘tomato can’ who had no business being in the ring with Berto the first time. I had to go to Connecticut to get my belt and my respect.

“I’ve fought a lot of wars. I’ve been in battles. I broke my jaw and my wrist, that’s three years right there. But my will to fight led me back. The more boxing I watched, the more upset it made me. I don’t think the other welterweights are on my level.

“Berto blames me for his downward spiral. He thinks he has a chance this time. Always a good dream to have.

“I’m not going the distance this time. I’m going in 100 miles per hour, full throttle.

“2011 was one heck of a year. The repeat is coming on April 30 because I want another world championship. Berto is a tremendous warrior; I’ll give him that. I’ll be ready and I know he will be too.”

ANDRE BERTO

“I’m excited about this one. April 30 is going to be a tremendous night. I promise you that.

“The fight back in 2011, he got me. He did what he had to do to win. But this time I’m going in extremely focused and ready to take everything that I felt he took from me that night.

“I went to school. I failed the test and now I have the chance to ace it.

“He said it wouldn’t go the distance last time, but I still did and I wasn’t training to my full capabilities.

“My power and speed are still there. I’m glad this fight came about because it’s going to be a great night for the fans.

“I’m not about running my mouth and saying stuff just for the media. I’m going to back it up in the ring.

“I’ve got to show Victor some respect because he beat me the first time. I’m big on being respectful. I respect Victor and the history of Mexican fighters, they put their blood, sweat and tears in there.

“This is what he asked for. So I want to make sure he knows what he’s getting himself into. This isn’t the same situation as last time. So we’ll see it in the ring. Come out on April 30 and see me handle this business.”

JORGE LARA

“It’s an honor to be able to fight on a card like this. I’m really excited about entering the ring on April 30.

“I know this isn’t going to be an easy fight. Montiel is a very accomplished fighter and that’s why we’re preparing ourselves very diligently for this fight. We’re looking forward to the challenge that he presents.

“I have all the respect in the world for Fernando Montiel. He was a great world champion who is very established in his career. I must be at my best to get the victory.

“If I’m able to win the fight then I would like to fight the winner of Jesus Cuellar vs. Abner Mares in that title fight. But first and foremost, I have to get this big victory.

“Don’t miss this fight. We’re going to give it our all and it’s going to be a tremendous matchup. I’m going to give it my all to be victorious.”

FERNANDO MONTIEL

“It’s an honor and pleasure to be a part of this amazing card. My fight with Lara is going to get the ring hot for the rest of the card.

“Lara is going to come prepared just like myself. He’s a great fighter. He’s undefeated and I know he’s going to bring his best.

“I know that Jorge Lara is a very good fighter, he’s aggressive. I know if I make a mistake it could be a long night for me.

“I know I have to rely on my experience to come out victorious. I expect both of us to battle. There could be some knockdowns. It’s going to be a fun fight for the fans.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity and I hope everyone comes out because I’m planning on making this a terrific fight.”

King’s Promotions signs Jr. Middleweight Erik Spring

Erik Spring signs
READING, PA (March 23, 2016)–Marshall Kauffman’s King’s Promotions is proud to announce the signing of junior middleweight Erik Spring to a promotional contract.

Spring of Reading, PA has a record of 6-1 with one knockout. The 31 year-old did not start boxing until the age of 30 after an amateur kickboxing career that saw him go 13-3-1.

“I feel this is a great opportunity,” said Spring. “This is a big step up for me as a I never had a promoter before. King’s Promotions is doing big things and this will keep me busy. I have not fought since September and I am eager to get back in the ring and get five fights in this year.”

Said King’s Promotions Marshall Kauffman, “I have seen Erik since he turned pro and I feel his best fighting is ahead of him. He has only been boxing for about a year and a half and he has natural fighting skills. We feel by keeping him active, he can turn into a real good fighter and that is our plan.”

Freddie Roach Q&A

Do you really think this is Pacquiao’s last fight? As a trainer, would you say Pacquiao has more quality fights in him? Is Pacquiao the best fighter you have ever trained? If not, who are the others?

“I personally don’t know if this will be Manny’s last fight but he is training like it’s going to be his last fight. Manny has achieved so much in his boxing career and if this is going to be his swan song I know he wants to go out blazing with a spectacular performance. He’s pouring everything into this training. If the opportunity for a knockout presents itself during the fight, he’s going to go for it. He knows how to close the show and he wants this show closed with fireworks. He wants to finish the book on his boxing career with a spectacular ending.

“I do think Manny has more quality fights in him. His power, speed, work ethic are still superior to most others.

“Manny is the greatest fighter I have ever worked with. I have never seen another fighter accomplish so much. Forget the raw talent and drive to win, Manny was a great student who never rested on his laurels. He was a sponge who was always willing to learn new things. He challenged me to teach him new things. He made me a better trainer. For me, it’s been an experience unique to Manny. I wish I had a million fighters with as much drive and a willingness to learn new things.”

How much do you believe injuries suffered by Bradley in each of the first two fights against Pacquiao affected the result?

“To put it simply, Bradley’s injuries were a big factor in both fights because they were caused by Manny during each fight. Boxing is the hurt business and when you get hit by Manny the force of his punches produce more damage than just to the area where the punches land. They physically rip you from your core. Frankly, I’m not convinced Bradley has yet to fully recover from his fight with Ruslan Provdnikov. And that’s not a knock. That fight was pure hell. I give him a lot of credit for surviving that battle as I do for winning it and continuing on as he has. He’s a tremendous athlete and a gutsy fighter.”

How much of a concern is Pacquiao’s upcoming senate election in terms of being a distraction heading into this fight? How far can Pacquiao make it in politics in the Philippines?

“It has been no distraction at all. He is all business in the ring and the only thing we discuss is the fight with Bradley. If anything, he seems to be extra motivated to perform well in this fight. In boxing, Manny was an eight-division world champion. No one has ever done that. It’s like Joe DiMaggio’s record for hitting in 56 consecutive games. It will never be broken. In boxing, politics and life, Manny has shown us that anything is possible if you work hard and have faith. He has never been confined by limits.”

As a trainer, how important are the first two fights in terms of breaking down tape when Bradley now has a different trainer that is asking to do things differently, especially against Pacquiao?

“Breaking down tape from the previous two fights is very important because I don’t feel Bradley has changed that much. Sure, we will make some adjustments for the changes his new trainer implemented in the last fight, but as soon as Manny lands some meaningful punches, Bradley will revert back to his old style and that’s what we have to be prepared for. The log in the ocean is going to end up being a log in the buzz saw.”

HBO Sports presents LEGACY ON THE LINE: FROM BRADLEY TO PACQUIAO. Chronicling the lessons and controversies Bradley has endured in his high-profile rivalry with the boxing legend from the Philippines, the special debuts SATURDAY, MARCH 26 (midnight-12:30 a.m. ET/PT) and is narrated by Liev Schreiber.

Pacquiao vs. Bradley takes place Saturday, April 9 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/ 6:00 p.m. PT.

CAMPBELL CAN BECOME HULL’S FIRST COMMONWEALTH CHAMP

Luke Campbell MBE says he will reap the rewards of his move to train in Miami as he bids to become Hull’s first ever Commonwealth champion when he meets Gary Sykes for the vacant Commonwealth Lightweight title at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

Campbell teamed up with Cuban trainer Jorge Rubio following his loss to Yvan Mendy at The O2 in London in December, leaving his young family behind to train for months in the States as he looks to bounce back in style in the all-Yorkshire clash with Dewsbury’s Sykes.

The Olympic hero can become the first fighter from Hull to win a Commonwealth belt and the 28 year old says that his Miami move will help him make history.

“Jorge’s brought out a lot more skill, footwork and tactics – everything really,” said Campbell. “We get on well, he’s great with southpaws too.

“I’ve had a great camp and made a lot of changes. I’ve been coming out to Miami to see Jorge for the last year and a half but it has just been weeks here and there.

“This was the first real camp together and I’m really enjoying working with him and at that the same gym where my hero Muhammad Ali trained.

“It’s not like you are going to see a new me on Saturday, but you will see a lot more of what I’m capable of. I’m not even scratching the surface and I’ve got a lot more to come and Jorge is bringing it out of me

“You have to live the life and invest in yourself. Boxing is not a job, it’s a lifestyle, the way you prepare for each fight is vital. I don’t prepare for Joe Bloggs, I prepare like I am going to war.

“I’ve had my ups and downs over the last year but that’s life, you have to take everything that is thrown at you in your stride. There’s no-one more committed to boxing than me, I’m away from my family and sacrificing spending time with them to train in Miami for seven weeks in a new environment and with a new coach, I’m sparring different training partners.

“I’m a family man and I live a simple life. I train, fight and spend time with my kids and my wife, there’s nothing harder than being away from them.”

Campbell’s clash with Sykes is part of a huge night of action in the Steel City as Sheffield favourite Kell Brook defends his IBF World Welterweight title against Canada’s Kevin Bizier.

KRAKOW, Poland (March 23, 2016) – A solid, entertaining undercard has been announced for “The Final Call,” featuring two-division world champion Tomasz “Goral” Adamek against former world title challenger Eric “Drummer Boy” Molina, airing live April 2 on pay-per-view in North America from Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland.

Integrated Sports Media will distribute the card in North America residents on pay-per-view for live viewing at 2 p.m. ET / 11 a.m. PT on cable, satellite and Internet pay-per-view via iN Demand, DIRECTV, DISH Network, and Vubiquity in the United States, as well as Rogers TV, Bell TV, Shaw PPV and SaskTel in Canada, for a suggested retail price of only $29.95. Please contact your local cable or satellite provider for more information. In addition, the fight is available in North America for purchase on-line at www.GFL.tv and via the FITE.TV app for both Android and iOS. This event is presented in Poland by Polsat, as part of the Polsat Boxing Night series, as well as Main Events and Don King Productions.

“Not only will passionate Polish fight enthusiasts in North America have an opportunity to watch some of Poland’s top fighters, including arguably its all-time best in Adamek, but American and Canadian boxing fans, in general, will be able to watch a full card featuring competitive, highly entertaining fights,” Integrated Sports Media president Doug Jacobs said. “We’re excited to be able to bring this tremendous card to North America and believe viewers will enjoy an afternoon of memorable boxing action.”

The Apr. 2nd pay-per-view telecast will also include three 10-round bouts showcasing three other world title challengers. The co-feature event matches undefeated Polish cruiserweight prospect Michael Cieslak (11-0, 7 KOs) against two-time world title challenger Francisco “The Wizard” Palacios (23-3, 14 KOs). Palacios, who fights out of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, went the complete distance twice in his pair of world title fights with WBC cruiserweight champion Krzysztof Wlodarczyk.

A pair of Polish heavyweights square off in a scheduled 10-round match as Andrzej Wawrzyk (31-1, 17 KOs), whose lone loss as a professional was to world champion Alexander Povetkin in a 2013 world title fight, meets former Polish champion Marcin Rekowski (17-2, 14 KOs).

An additional world-class cruiserweight bout is on tap as former European titlist Mateusz “Master” Masternak (36-4, 26 KOs) takes on Oklahoma’s upset-minded Eric “Danger” Fields (24-3, 16 KOs). Masternak, another world contender from Poland, is ranked among the top 20 by all four major sanctioning bodies (WBA #10, IBF #14, WBO #15 and WBC #18). A former WBC Youth champion, Masternak captured the European cruiserweight title in 2012, and WBC International Silver championship a year later. In 2014, Masternak lost a 12-round split decision in an Interim WBA cruiserweight title fight, but last year he stopped Carlos Ailton Nascimento to capture the vacant WBA Inter-Continental crown.

Fields is a battle-tested veteran having defeated world champion Kelvin Davis and fought top contenders such as Ola Afolabi, Yunier Dorticos and Ilunga Makabu.

Two other fights may be shown, time permitting. Two-time European champion Rafal “Braveheart” Jackiewicz (48-14-2, 22 KOs) faces Polish welterweight Michal Syrowatka (13-1, 4 KOs) in a 10-round rematch of their fight last December in which Jackiewicz, another Polish world title challenger, won by way of a fourth-round technical knockout. In a 10-round European female lightweight title fight, unbeaten defending champion Ewa Brodnicka (10-0, 2 KOs), of Poland, meets Italian champion Anota Torti (9-5, 3 KOs).

DAVIES FACES KEATES FOR ENGLISH TITLE

Ohara Davies will face Andy Keates for the vacant English Lightweight title at The O2 on April 9, live on Sky Sports Box Office.

Davies boxes for a first title in the paid ranks, racing to 10-0 and adding an eighth stoppage win to his impressive resume in January at The Copper Box Arena in London.

‘Two Tanks’ will look to win the crown in style, aiming for a fifth straight win inside the distance on his fourth outing at the Greenwich venue, but Keates will be looking to land the belt in his second tilt at the title, having been edged out by Kevin Hooper in November.

“I’m delighted to finally get the chance to fight for a title as a pro,” said Davies. “It’s a big step for me from the six-rounders I’ve had so far – this is my first title fight and first fight over 10 rounds. I’ve had to tailor my training to be ensure I’m fit for the latter stages – if it lasts that long.

“Andy is a Southpaw so I’ve had to prepare for that. I’ve watched some of his fights on YouTube and his fight with Kevin Hooper was good – but I’m confident I can stop him in three rounds.

“My apprenticeship is over now and after this I’m ready to start challenging for British title and beyond.”

Davies’ clash with Keates is part of a huge night of boxing at The O2 as Anthony Joshua MBE challenges Charles Martin for the IBF World Heavyweight title.

Lee Selby defends his IBF World Featherweight title against Eric Hunter, while there’s a key Middleweight battle between former World title challengers Matthew Macklin and Brian Rose, three-time World Super-Middleweight title challenger George Groves meets unbeaten Scotsman David Brophy, plus more fights to be confirmed soon.
