BROOK: I HOPE BIZIER BRINGS IT – I’M READY TO FIGHT!

Christopher Brooker
Kell Brook has told Kevin Bizier to get ready to stand and fight when he defends his IBF World Welterweight title at the Sheffield Arena on Saturday night (March 26) live on Sky Sports.

Brook makes the third defence of his title and second against a Canadian mandatory challenger, and for ‘The Special One’ it’s the conclusion to an extended training camp following the rib injury that forced him out of his October clash with Diego Chaves.

The unbeaten 29 year old is plotting a major summer showdown, and wants to send a statement out to the Welterweight division by destroying Bizier in front of his adoring Steel City following.

“It feels like I’ve been training for an eternity and I just can’t wait to get in there and fight,” said Brook. “The back end of last year was so frustrating. I was excited for the Chaves fight and to get injured with just over a week to go was heart-breaking. When we tried to reschedule the fight the IBF told us that we have to fight Bizier next so he’s in the saddle.

“I was a mandatory challenger once and know how hungry I was. I’ve seen him saying that he is going to try and pressure me on Saturday and that’s music to my ears. I want to stand and fight. I haven’t had that fight night feeling for nearly a year and it’s been killing me inside. Saturday will be quite emotional for me and I feel a special performance coming on.

“Everyone is talking about a big summer fight and of course that’s on the agenda but right now I’m going to soak up the atmosphere in the arena in my hometown and go on a seek and destroy mission Saturday night.”

Brook’s clash with Bizier is part of a huge night of action in the Steel City as Hull’s Olympic gold medal star Luke Campbell MBE returns to action in a Yorkshire derby with Dewsbury’s Gary Sykes for the vacant Commonwealth Lightweight title.

Adam Etches is straight back into title action on the card, Sheffield Heavyweights Dave Allen and Richard Towers clash in a British title eliminator and Andy Townend meets Craig Poxton for the English Super-Featherweight title.

Tickets priced at £40, £60, £80, £100 and £150 are on sale now from the Sheffield Arena on 0114 2565656 and at www.sheffieldarena.co.uk. VIP tickets priced at £250 are exclusively available from www.matchroomboxing.com.

LaManna stops Mena in four in front of sold-out crowd at Claridge in Atlantic City

Thomas LaManna (640x480)
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (March 21, 2016)–This past Saturday night, welterweight contender, Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna thrilled a sold-out crowd at The Claridge in Atlantic City when he scored fourth round stoppage over Kendal Mena that highlighted a action-packed nine bout card.

The card was promoted by Rising Promotions and Vincent M. Ponte’s Gulfstream Promotions.

With all of the seats occupied, fans were jammed on the walls and they enjoyed LaManna’s performance, which was action-filled from the opening bell.

LaManna used hard right hands to continuously rock Mena. In round one, LaManna set the tone by buckling Mena with one of those rights. LaManna was sitting down on his punches to the point where he sent Mena’s mouthpiece firing out oh his mouth several times and finally in round three, referee David Fanciosi had to deduct a point from Mena. LaManna continued to rock Mena with hard shots and had him wobbled throughout round four. LaManna had Mena on the ropes and one more hard right hand pummeled into Mena and Franciosi stopped the bout at 2:23 of round four.

LaManna of Millville, NJ is 20-1 with eight knockouts. Mena of San Cristobal, Dominican Republic is 20-4.

“It felt good to get the stoppage. I can only see bigger and better things coming for my career, I am only getting better and stronger, and I predict more knockouts to come,” Said LaManna. “I felt real composed and I knew he was hurt in the first round and I took my time to break him down and get him out. Rising Promotions and Gulfstream Promotions has three more dates at The Claridge (May 27, September 17 and November 12) and I am still building. I am still young and am taking my time to get where I want to be.”

Isiah Seldon (8-1) came back after a 33-month layoff with a six-round unanimous decision over Michael Mitchell to capture the Tri-State Super Middleweight title.

Seldon of Atlantic City almost had a stoppage in round one as he landed a hard flurry of punches and had Mitchell hurt on the ropes. It looked like referee Mary Glover was stepping in to stop the fight, but she just separated the fighters. Seldon got the best of the action over the game Mitchell and came home with the victory to the tune of 58-56 on all cards.

Dan Pasciolla (7-1-1) won the Tri-State Heavyweight title with a shutout six-round unanimous decision over comebacking former IBF Cruiserweight champion Imamu Mayfield (25-10-2)

Scores were 60-54 on all cards.

Popular Long Island welterweight Tommy Rainone (25-7-1) made his boardwalk debut a successful one as he scored a hard fought unanimous decision over Maurice Chalmers (14-13-1) in a eight-round bout. Rainone used effective punching to open up a cut over Chalmers left eye in round two. Chalmers tried to make the fight, but Rainone used effective counters and won by scores of 79-73 on all cards.

Daryl Bunting (1-0-1) started the card off with a four-round unanimous decision over Darryl Watkins (0-3) in a super middleweight bout.

Bunting win by scores of 40-36 twice and 40-35.

Omar Brito (3-2, 2 KO’s) scored a explosive one-punch knockout over Bienvenido Diaz (2-2) in a scheduled four-round super featherweight bout.

Brito landed a perfect right hand that sent Diaz to the canvas. Diaz got to his feet but was wobbling around the ring and the bout was stopped at 2:20 of round one.

Quian Davis (2-0-1) won a four round unanimous decision over Corey Morley (0-2-1) in a heavyweight bout.

Scores were 40-36 on all cards.

Alvin Vermall Jr. (8-0-1) remained perfect by winning an entertaining four round unanimous decision over D’Quan Morgan (3-3-1) in a cruiserweight bout.

There was good back and forth action throughout the bout. Vermall, who is from Catskills, New York has an exciting style reminiscent to another former Catskills fighter in Mike Tyson. Morgan was bleeding from his nose in round three. The two fought a spirited affair with Vermall winning by scores of 40-36 twice and 39-37.

Hakim Bryant (6-0) remained perfect with a six-round unanimous decision over Rick Graham in a middleweight bout.

Bryant (6-0) dominated the action, and dropped Graham in round six from a flurry on the ropes and won by scores of 60-51, 60-52 and 60-53.

CORCORAN TARGETS LIAM WILLIAMS SHOWDOWN

Wembley’s super-welterweight star Gary Corcoran wants to take on British and Commonwealth Champion Liam Williams once he has dealt with Bristol’s Danny Butler.

Corcoran headlines Friday’s action-packed show at Bethnal Green’s York Hall where he takes on English Champion Butler for the Vacant WBO Intercontinental Junior-Middleweight Championship.

“I always take things one fight at a time and I’m fully focused on beating Danny Butler. I have a lot of respect for Danny and I’m expecting a tough fight from him,” said Corcoran.

“Saying that, I know I can beat him comfortably. Peter Stanley has come up with an air-tight game plan and I’m fully expecting to come away with another win. Once Danny is out the way I can start looking forward,” Corcoran added.

Known as the ‘Hell Raiser’ for his ferocious fighting style, Corcoran has ripped through his first 14 opponents; claiming 6 knockouts along the way. The unbeaten 25 year-old wants to take out as many rivals as possible on his journey to a world title; starting with Liam Williams.

He said: “The super-welterweight division is bursting with talent and there’s a lot of exciting fights to be made. After I’ve dealt with Danny I want to go for Liam Williams. That would be a massive fight and I’m confident I could beat him. I’ve got the ability to box him or fight him, when I fight him I’ll know what to do.”

Red-hot Corcoran says he’s taken a lot of confidence from inflicting defeats on the previously unbeaten Rick Skelton and Rick Godding last year and is aiming to kick-off 2016 by claiming another scalp. The natural-born scrapper is chomping at the bit to get back in the ring.

He said: “I’ve been waiting a long time for this fight now and I’m buzzing to get back out there. It’s been frustrating having to wait this long but I’ve kept myself in top condition in the gym. I’ll be looking to make a big statement on Friday. I’ll have a lot of family and friends there supporting me and I’ll make sure I send them home happy.”

Sullivan Barrera Training Camp Notes: Ready for Anything

Sullivan Barrera
Big Bear Lake, CA: As IBF number one light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KOs) prepares for the biggest fight of his career against one of the sport’s top pound-for-pound fighters, Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs), at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California which will be televised live on HBO, the 34-year old from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is calm, confident and ready for anything.

Barrera trains in Big Bear Lake, California with legendary trainer Abel Sanchez. Sanchez is best known for working with IBF, WBA and WBC Interim Middleweight World Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Sullivan has taken advantage of working with his prestigious coach and being surrounded by other elite boxers like Golovkin. He said, “Camp has been great. I feel great. I am ready to make history on March 26. The best advice I have received was from Gennady Golovkin who told me to work my speed and to fight intelligently. Abel Sanchez told me not lose my cool and to stay focused at all times.”

This advice has given Barrera the confidence he needs to face Ward, the former WBA & WBC Super Middleweight World Champion, as he makes the transition into the light heavyweight division. According to Sullivan, “[Ward] is considered one of the top three or four fighters in the world. I admire him a lot. He is a great challenge. I love what he has done. I also consider myself one of the best talents in the world. This opportunity is something that will prove to the world that I am at the top. I think I am getting him at the right moment because he is moving up. This is the perfect fight for me to prepare for the future 175 pound fighters who are at the elite level.”

Sanchez believes Sullivan is ready for this challenge because he has been able to adapt Sullivan’s Cuban skills with Abel’s approach to create an entirely unique style. Explained Sanchez, “Sullivan has a style that is partly from the Cuban school and partly from my school. The attacking style that he has now is because of some of the things that we practice in the gym. It’s just a matter of going at Andre and taking what he gives us. I wasn’t trying to change his Cuban style, what I was trying to do is make him a little more aggressive. I wanted to make him stick out his punches a little more and have better balance. I wanted a little better positioning and technique with his legs. By adding the two styles together it gives us more opportunity for him to do what he has to do.”

This unique style has given Sullivan the confidence he needs as he prepares to face Ward. He said, “If I have to box, I will box. If I have to attack him, I will attack him but I will be ready for anything as the fight goes on. I, like everyone else, recognize that Andre is a great boxer. I, too, am a great boxer. The only thing that is missing in my resume is that I haven’t had the opportunity. I think this is the opportunity for me to prove that I am just as good.”

Ward vs. Barrera, a 12-round IBF number one position and mandatory position eliminator which is presented by Roc Nation Sports in association with Main Events, takes place Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California. Nielsen retains WBC International title with unanimous points decision against Larghetti

Micki Nielsen (21-0, 14 KOs) overcame his toughest career test to retain his WBC International Cruiserweight title with a unanimous points victory against former World title challenger Mirko Larghetti (24-2, 14 KOs) last night at the Albertslund Musikateatret in Copenhagen.

Headlining his first event at his hometown arena, the Danish southpaw started strongly, working well behind his southpaw jab and punishing his opponent with heavy shots to the head and body. Larghetti, suffering from a swollen eye, looked to be in trouble in the opening rounds as he failed to keep up with Nielsen’s work rate.

Larghetti was forced to absorb more punishment as the rounds went on, with Nielsen, still in total control, finding the target with a series of combinations. Undeterred, the granite chinned Larghetti kept coming forward looking for his own openings.

The Italian’s persistence paid off as he begun to enjoy more success in the later rounds. However, Nielsen was able to hold off a late rally from Larghetti to successfully retain his WBC title with the judges scoring the fight 117-112, 116-112 and 116-112 in favour of the twenty-three year-old Champion.

‘’That was definitely the toughest fight of my career. Larghetti is a very strong fighter. He took a lot of punches and kept coming forward,’’ said Nielsen.

‘’I hurt my hand half way through the fight and had to adjust my game plan, but overall I was pleased with my performance. It was a very important fight for me. I feel like I’ve past the test and proved I’m ready for the bigger challenges.’’

Promoter Nisse Sauerland was impressed with what he saw from Nielsen and says the young Dane can become a dominant force in the cruiserweight division.

‘’Micki did himself proud tonight,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’That was a big step up for him, a real test of his ability, and he past with flying colours. At just twenty-three years old, Micki has a big future ahead of him. He can rule the cruiserweight division for many years to come.’’

Operator: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Andre Ward versus Sullivan Barrera Final International Media Conference Call. Your host for today, Dave Itskowitch, will now begin.

David Itskowitch: Thank you very much and thank you, everyone, for joining us today. We’re less than two weeks away from Andre Ward versus Sullivan Barrera on Saturday, March 26 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California which will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

The 12-round IBF Number 1 position and mandatory position eliminator is presented by Roc Nation Sports in association with Main Events. Opening the HBO telecast will be Joseph Diaz, Jr versus Jason Velez in a 10-round fight for the NABF feather weight title which is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Miguel Cotto Promotions.

Our event is sponsored by Corona Extra, Ticketmaster, Corporate Travel Management Solutions (ctms), Glad, Lyft, Zappos, BodyArmor, SAN Nutrition, Shoe Palace, the Waterfront Hotel and Visit Oakland. Tickets priced from $25 to $300 are available at Ticketmaster. They’re going fast. We urge everyone to get out there and get your tickets as soon as possible.

Before we begin I’d like to acknowledge and thank several people who were instrumental in getting this fight made: Andre’s manager James Prince and attorney Josh Dubin, Main Event CEO Kathy Duva, Executive Vice President of HBO Sports Peter Nelson, as well as Ryan Northcott and the entire team at Oracle Arena.

Two of the light heavyweights on the planet will collide on March 26. They have a combined record of 45-0 with 27 knockouts. Neither has tasted defeat as a professional. While each man has a formidable opponent in front of him they both have their eyes on Unified Light Heavyweight World Champion Sergey Kovalev and his three belts and only one will move on to meet him.

Before we get to Andre for his opening statements and questions I just want to say that unfortunately, Virgil Hunter is not going to be joining us on the call. He had a last minute conflict arise. But if he were on the call I’m sure he would tell everyone that camp is going great and Andre is right on schedule. And will be ready to execute the game plan on March 26.

The next gentleman I’m going to introduce really doesn’t need much of an introduction. He was a 2004 Olympic gold medalist, the last U.S. boxer to bring home a gold. He destroyed the super-middleweight division with wins over Carl Froch, Mikkel Kessler, Arthur Abraham and Saio Bika. He dominated and knocked out former light heavyweight world champion, Chad Dawson in the 2012 showdown and his last fight he dominated former two-time world challenger, Paul Smith on June 20 at Oracle Arena.

On March 26 he makes his move up to light heavyweight with designs on doing what he did at super middleweight, cleaning out and dominating everyone that stands in his way. It’s my pleasure to introduce one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on planet; the future of the light heavyweight division with a record of 28-0 and 15 KOs, a man who has an unblemished record dating back to the age of 12 from Oakland, California, Andre Ward.

Andre Ward: Hey, David. Excited to be on the call as usual. Excited that the fight is a little under two weeks away. We got a really great camp. And, you know, excited to answer any questions. And I want to also thank everybody that’s associated with the event, my team, obviously HBO and everybody on the other side, Barrera side as well.

David Itskowitch: All right thank you, Andre. I guess we can turn the call over to questions now for Andre.

Operator: Our first question comes from Eddie Goldman with No Holds Barred. Please go ahead. Eddie, your line is open.

Eddie Goldman: In the time since the other conference call a couple of weeks ago, what have you learned about your opponent, Sullivan Barrera? And what can you tell us other than obviously you record and your experience, you see as your advantages over him?

Andre Ward: Well it’s tough to get into what I, you know, what I want to exploit and capitalize on. But he’s a solid fighter; he’s a good fighter. He seems to be technically sound. He seems to have a good pedigree. And he’s got a good team. So, yeah, we’ve taken him very seriously like we do every opponent. And, you know, he’s a formidable opponent for sure.

Eddie Goldman: What do you see the level of – the role of experience plays? Because he’s fought some former champions who were at the end of their career, and he got the knockout over Murat. But he’s never fought like a fighter on your level. How much does that really play into it?

Andre Ward: I mean, time will tell. You know I feel he’s going to see the difference in the fight. No question about that. You know, you can watch film, your team can tell you what they want to tell you. You can talk. You know, but at the end of the day when you get in there that’s a different story, man, and I’ve said that my whole career. And I think that’s one of my biggest strengths is for whatever reason what happens in that ring, you know, guys don’t see it on film. And, you know, when they get in there and figure out everything that’s going on, the fight’s over.

At the same time, you know, you can’t put too many eggs in that basket because at one point in time I was a young fighter back in 2009 and that same type of thing was said about me and I knew in my heart that I’m going to do this and nobody else believed it. So, you know, it’s tough. We know what we know, we see what we see and we look at records, we look at performance and we say okay, we take a mental note. You can’t put too much into that because, you know, guys tend to rise to the occasion sometimes so you got to be ready for that too.

Eddie Goldman: He’s had a string of knockouts and TKOs in shorter fights. Do you see this, you know, being a long fight or plan for that?

Andre Ward: Yeah, I mean, I always train for 12 rounds, a strong 12 rounds. And I think that’s something else he’s going to realize when he gets to the fight is the pace is not the normal pace he’s used to. And I believe he’s going to get tired. And I don’t mean he’s going to stop fighting but I mean, he’s going to feel it, there’s no question about it.

Eddie Goldman: Okay. Do you want to make a prediction?

Andre Ward: I think predictions are overrated. That’s never been my style, that’s never been how I approach a fight. The one thing I do is I always guarantee that I’m ready. And, you know, I’ve never come in a fight overweight. I’ve never come in a fight not prepared. And you can’t predict what happens in a boxing ring. I know that I’m prepared for war. You have to be ready for anything and that’s what I’m prepared for. I’m prepared for a tough-tough fight. But I expect to get my hand raised at the end of the night.

Operator: Our next question comes from Martin Gallegos. Please go ahead.

Martin Gallegos: HBO is back in Oakland for the first time since your Dawson fight in 2012. And, you know, since that time we’ve seen fighters like Terrence Crawford do big numbers in his hometown. Are you going to be looking to continue fighting in Oakland and perhaps replicating that type of success in Oakland like we’ve seen Crawford in Nebraska and stuff like that?

Andre Ward: Yeah, no, first of all it’s always an honor and a privilege to have the HBO team here in the Bay. You know, when you see that HBO truck you know it’s time to go to work, you know, the whole team is here, the whole production is in town and, you know, it’s a big deal so that’s first and foremost.

But, you know, I’ve heard people talk about all he does is fight in Oakland. But, you know, I’m coming up on almost 30 fights as a pro and I think this may be my 8th time fighting in Oakland. So it’s a huge disparity versus the amount of times I have fought here versus when I haven’t.

But we take it a fight at a time. We don’t just predict that the next five fights are going to be here. We look at the fight, we look at the opponent and we look at everything and the team makes the decision. So, you know, anytime I’m afforded that opportunity knowing what I’ve come from and knowing these type of moments do for the city and the Bay area as a whole, I’m going to jump all over it and I’m always excited about it. I train and prepare for every fight but there’s something special about fighting at home.

Martin Gallegos: Okay. And I think just getting to the fight a little bit, obviously, you know, you have a tough match up with Barrera coming up. With this being your first fight at 175 do you see any, you know, a lot of people are wanting to see you fight, you know, obviously Sergey Kokalev later in the year, do you see from the time that you’ve seen Kokalev fight in the past, any similarities between the two?

Andre Ward: Not really. Not really. I don’t think they’re similar at all between Barrera and Kokalev?

Martin Gallegos: Yeah.

Andre Ward: No. I don’t really see any similarities.

Martin Gallegos: Okay.

Andre Ward: Different body types, different styles, just different all together.

Operator: Our next question comes from Gayle Falkenthal with Community Digital News.

Gayle Falkenthal: Thank you very much. Andre, following up that last question, what differences do you feel at this new weight division? How would you describe those?

Andre Ward: Oh I get to eat more. That’s #1. I mean, you definitely feel stronger when you don’t have to strip extra pounds off, you definitely feel stronger. I mean, that’s just, you know, it’s kind of a no brainer. But I still feel like I have my speed. I still feel like I have all the things that made me who I was at super middleweight but I also feel a lot stronger at 175. You know, to be honest I’m a lot happier because I didn’t have to kill myself, per se, to make weight. So just definitely happier. I feel very strong and I feel like I still maintained all the things that made me who I was at 168.

Gayle Falkenthal: And changing gears a little bit, there’s been a lot of discussion about professional boxers competing in the Olympic games. You are the last American man to win a gold medal for the U.S. so I’d love to know what you think about that and whether or not you’d be tempted to go for two.

Andre Ward: Yeah, I read that and it’s pretty interesting. It’s pretty interesting. I think right now its just about maybe getting more information about how something like that will work. But it definitely has sparked my interest and has gotten my attention.

Gayle Falkenthal: And would you rule it out? Would you consider it?

Andre Ward: You can’t rule anything out. You know, you’ve to get all the facts on the table. You’ve got to get all the details. I don’t have all of that right now. And obviously I’m preparing for a fight but I would just want to see everything and then just kind of digest it and then make a decision from there. But definitely interesting, very interesting.

Gayle Falkenthal: I agree. Thank you very much, Andre. Good luck.

Andre Ward: Thank you.

David Itskowitch: Andre, I have a question for you. And I think it was sort of touched on a little bit. But, how has this camp gone differently from the other camps that you’ve had based on now being higher in weight?

Andre Ward: For the most part everything is the same. Same mentality, same work ethic. I think, from a preparation standpoint you add certain things in that you otherwise couldn’t add it, you know, at a lower weight. It’s not really about adding anymore armor or anything, more muscle, but you’re just able to implement other training strategies to prepare for the heavier weight. More explosion work, a little bit more strength work and I definitely think that the fans will see the results of all of this a few weeks from now come March 26.

Operator: Our next question comes Mitch Abramson with Ring TV.com. Please go ahead.

Mitch Abramson: Just wondering, what was your reaction when you heard the news about the Olympics, you know, potentially allowing pros to compete? I’m just curious about what your gut reaction was to that.

Andre Ward: I was surprised and intrigued at the same time. You know I was like, wow. Like I had to read it a couple of times over to make sure I was reading what I thought I was reading.

So my publicist, she’s heavy into USA Boxing. She’s been a focal point in USA Boxing for a long time. So I picked up the phone and I was like man, did you see this? She was like yes, it’s legitimate. You know we’re trying to get more information.

So I think that’s where I am with it. You’ve got a lot of thoughts like wow that would be amazing for your country. Just wanting to know more about the process and what that would actually look like. But I’m very interested and I think it’s a very interesting proposition.

Mitch Abramson: Do you think that a lot of other professional fighters will take the plunge and actually compete in the Olympics?

Andre Ward: It’s tricky, you know. I think it just depends on the individual because there’s an argument for doing it and there’s an argument for not doing it.

I mean you – you know I’ve heard a quote – I read a quote rather that, Manny Pacquiao said that he, you know, paraphrasing a little bit, where basically that he’s excited about it. Not to say that he’s going to do it, but he’s willing to do anything for his country.

So you have guys like maybe a Manny who’s just very gung ho and he’s ready to go. And you’ve got other guys who, maybe like a Floyd Mayweather where, does it really, even though he felt like he got robbed in ’96 for an opportunity to want to go, does it really make sense to him to do something like that at this stage in his career and with all that he’s accomplished?

It’s a three minute round fight. And do pros and in his case, a legend like that, want to take a risk of something happening where he takes a L, or it just doesn’t look good or anything can happen. Is that something you want to take a risk doing at this stage in your career?

I really think it depends on the individual. It’s going to be really interesting to see if this is legitimate, what decision I make. Because I’ve got a lot of reasons to do it and a lot of reasons not to do it. So, I don’t know, it’s tough to say.

David Itskowitch: While we’re waiting for the next question to queue up. Andre I have an off-subject question to ask you but, it’s appropriate given the time of year that it is. And I know you live in an area that has two very popular college basketball teams. So fortunately I’m not going to ask you to pick one or the other because one is in the tournament.

Do you have any thoughts on the NCAA Tournament and who’s going to win?

Andre Ward: Oh, my goodness, I’m the wrong guy to ask. I get people asking me all the time to build brackets and I cheat. You know I cheat. When it gets to the last eight and the final four, that’s when I tune in and I start watching.

But the excitement around the NCAA is just amazing. And I mean it’s worldwide. So yes, I think it’s a good. And to see these athletes compete at this level at that age with that kind of pressure on them is amazing to watch.

Operator: Our next question comes from Keith Idec with The Record. Please go ahead.

Keith Idec: I was just wondering if you’ve given more thought to, if everything goes well on March 26, would you like to get another fight in before you fight Kovalev, or is that something you haven’t decided yet?

Andre Ward: Yes, I think that I’ve left that in the hands of my manager and my promoters. I think that’s the plan.

I’ve been entrenched in this fight and haven’t even talked anything past this fight. The reality is, without this fight and without a victory in this fight, there is no fight too. There is no Kovalev.

So, you know with situations like this, I really got to kind of put my blinders on and any other distractions and really just focus on this. Because that is the reality of the situation.

Keith Idec: So do you feel like kind of – it depends on how you feel after this fight and then you’ll decide from there basically?

Andre Ward: Well again, I’m the type of person that I literally put my blinders on and I don’t deal with it, you know.

And after the fight it’s something that I can sit down with the team about. And I believe they’ll get something worked out that everybody is happy with.

Operator: Our next question comes from Richard Bioceros with Boxing News.

Richard Bioceros: Hey, I just got one question for you. How did it change you to be in a big movie like Creed with Sylvester Stallone? And do you see yourself wanting to be in more big movies like that again?

Andre Ward: Absolutely. I communicated that to my team and I hope I get some other opportunities because even more so than just the exposure and the opportunity, the process was really, really, fun. The process was really fun. And it’s work.

I mean I couldn’t believe that I – the scenes that everybody saw in the movie, I think that was either three or four 12-hour days that I shot in Philadelphia. I mean 12-hour days straight and you get small breaks when they’re trying to set up new scenes or go over certain things.

But you’re not really breaking for an extended period of time. And I’m going back to my hotel room icing my shoulder, taking Epsom Salt – I was like man, this is crazy. Like this is a movie but its work. You know you literally have to work.

So I left the set being appreciative and thankful but then really feeling like man, I enjoyed that. And I would love to do more of it.

Richard Bioceros: Hey Andre, Stallone he’s a big huge boxing fan. How is he outside of not working. Does he talk about a lot of boxing?

Andre Ward: He’s a regular dude from what I can tell. He’s a regular guy. We knew each other for years. You know I’m not a guy that’s going to be like hey, Sylvester Stallone. Like I just fall back you know, and just kind of play my role. And if he speaks I’ll speak or maybe I’ll wave. And he came up and was like “Hey Andre, how you doing?”

We just talked. We sat there and talked. And on the Red Carpet we talked for a long period of time. I talked to his brother. He’s an amazing man. And as storied as his career and his life has been, he seems to be just a regular person, which is really cool to see.

David Itskowitch: All right Andre, you want to give any closing thoughts before you sign off?

Andre Ward: It’s March 26, it’s around the corner. Everything that I’ve done as a super middleweight; that book is closed. And the same hunger that I had in 2009 when I was unaccomplished and I had my opportunity against Mikkel Kessler, that’s the same drive that I have right now, years later. It’s the same mindset that I have.

So I’m just thankful for the opportunity. I’m excited to showcase March 26. Don’t miss it.

David Itskowitch: All right I think we’re now ready to continue. I’d like to introduce now to say a few words and introduce Sullivan Barrera, the CEO of Main Events, Kathy Duva.

Kathy Duva: Hello. Thank you Dave. Welcome everyone. It is going to be my distinct pleasure to introduce to you a fantastic young fighter who has been in the background working hard, earning his shot. And he is one of the most exciting fighters I think, in his weight division certainly.

And somebody who’s coming in to win and is going to go in there and make a statement on next Saturday. So it is my pleasure to introduce Sullivan Barrera.

Sullivan Barrera: Hello everyone, good afternoon. Camp has been great. I feel great. I’m ready to make history on March 26.

Kathy Duva: Also, Luis Molina is on the phone and Abel Sanchez. Luis and Abel, would you like to say something? Luis, do you want to go first?

Luis Molina: Yes Kathy, thank you. I appreciate the opportunity that was presented to Sullivan to fight Andre Ward on the March 26. I’d like to thank HBO, everyone involved and looking for a great turnout on March 26.

Kathy Duva: And Abel, do you have anything to say? Is Abel there? I guess not. So, we’ll open it up to questions for anybody.

Abel Sanchez: Well we’re happy to be involved in this promotion that we feel is a big opportunity for Sullivan. We feel that it’s at the right moment for Sullivan being that he is 34-years-old. We’re fighting a great fighter in Andre Ward. I know a lot about him because of my other client.

Andre is undoubtedly one of the top three fighters in the world. So we’re looking forward to a very, very hard fight and hopefully it pleases the fans.

Operator: Our first question comes from Dan Rafael with ESPN. Please go ahead.

Dan Rafael: Thank you very much. Everybody, hello. My question is for Sullivan. If you could ask Sullivan you were very vocal on social media, calling Andre Ward out for this fight which is unusual. There’s not a lot of boxers who actively seek out fights with Andre Ward.

I’d like to know from you, what was the reason that you targeted Andre Ward and that you wanted this fight specifically so much? No title on the line. Obviously you’re the underdog. What was it about this matchup that had you calling him out so vocally, for a while?

Sullivan Barrera: One of the main reasons that I targeted him was because he is considered one of the top three or four fighters in the world. I admire him a lot. He’s a great talent. I love what he’s done. But I also consider myself a great talent and I also consider myself one of the best fighters in the world. And this opportunity is something that will prove to the world that I am at the top.

Dan Rafael: Abel, when you heard his desire for this fight as his trainer what were your thoughts about what he was doing and when this fight was made? I mean, I’m sure you have confidence in him. I know you see him regularly in the gym. But, you know, it’s a big step up for him in terms of the guys he’s faced previously. So when you saw that your guy was really, really dogging Ward on social media, calling this fight what were you thinking?

Abel Sanchez: Well as a coach you’re excited because your guy really wants to go at the best. That’s something that’s consistently a topic in the gym. And to have him put it out like that on social media. I want to have a guy that wants to go to fight – wants to go get his and become the star that everybody else is around you.

Dan Rafael: Could you ask Sullivan about the fact that Andre has not been the most active fighter in the world. He’s moving up in weight. Does he feel like it’s sort of the sweet spot of where he can get him? I know he had that Paul Smith fight but that was a while ago already and it didn’t really do a whole lot for him. But that what it means to him that he’s getting him in this right spot I think possibly, moving up in weight and the level of inactivity, they’re sort of right there to maybe catch him off guard a little bit possibly.

Sullivan Barrera: Yes I think that I’m getting him at the right moment not only because he’s moving up. He didn’t say anything about the inactivity by the way Dan, but he is moving up and I am ranked – rated number one in the IBF. So it’s a perfect time for me to prepare for the future.

Dan Rafael: All right. I just have one more question for Sullivan. Andre has been a consummate boxer. Maybe not the most power but he’s had some knockouts here and there. I wondered if when he looks at the – and you can answer this too Abel — when you make your plan for how you’re going to approach this fight do you think Sullivan needs to stalk him and bring it to him offensively or because of his background as also a quality amateur fighter, comes from a Cuban system, knows how to box also, or is he going to be the guy that’s going to try to box in Andre Ward and maybe, you know, how point him? It seems like a tough call either way.

Sullivan Barrera: So obviously right now I’m not going to divulge my strategy but I have – we have a plan and if I have to box, I’ll box. If I have to attack him, I will attack him. But I will be ready for anything that – as the fight goes on.

Abel Sanchez: As far as for me Dan, Andre Ward is a great fighter. Andre Ward has been inactive but he still has a history of some great, great fights in the past. For me as a coach I’ve always believed that I have to prepare my guys to the best of my guy’s ability and go in doing the things that we do best. We’re not going to adapt to Andre Ward. We’re going to do what we do best and if that’s not good enough then we’ll have to go back to the drawing board and start again. But if I start to adapt to Andre Ward then my guy’s not doing what he does best.

Operator: Our next question comes from Eddie Goldman with No Holds Barred.

Eddie Goldman: Thank you very much. Hello everybody. A question for Sullivan: obviously Andre Ward is very well known, Olympic gold medalist, undefeated, Super Six Champion and so forth. You’re coming into this fight also undefeated but not as well known a fighter to the TV audiences. Could you explain why you think you’re going to be able to win this fight and be the first person to defeat Andre Ward since he was basically a kid?

Sullivan Barrera: I like everybody else, recognize that Andre is a great boxer. But I too am a great boxer I believe. The only thing that’s missing in my resume is that I haven’t had the opportunity. I think this is the opportunity for me to prove that I am just as good.

Eddie Goldman: And a question for Abel Sanchez. Abel, Andre has described his own style in the past as being a chameleon. In other words, he could be a boxer, he can get into a slug fest, he could be a boxer puncher and he’s proven that in the ring. How do you – since Sullivan’s gotten a lot of knockouts and TKOs recently how do you prepare and what kind of Andre Ward do you think is going to show up for this fight?

Abel Sanchez: Well the Andre Ward that we’ve watched in the past we haven’t seen lately. But it’s the best that I can do is prepare Sullivan to take what’s given to him, to take what’s in front of him. Sullivan has a style that is from the – I meant to say from part of the Cuban school and part of my school. The attacking style that he has now and the knockouts that he has now are some of the stuff that we practice in the gym. It’s just a matter of going at Andre and taking what he gives us but not to let Andre breathe.

It’ll make for a great fight because Andre I think has to prove – in my opinion anyway has to prove that he belongs at 175. He’s starting a full-fledged 175-pounder that’s very athletic, that has a long history of a Cuban background and has had a great history with me. So if Andre can handle that more power to him if he’ll come out. We don’t think he can. We think that we’ll be too good for him at this moment in Andre’s career. So that remains to be seen I guess on March 26.

Eddie Goldman: And if this fight goes long Sullivan’s never fought 12 rounds before. How is he prepared physically and mentally for those 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th rounds if it goes that long?

Abel Sanchez: You know, all coaches that have that level fighters, we always train for 14, 15 rounds. We never train for 12. It’s just a matter of making sure that we convince him and we take care of him in the corner so that he can continue to perform at the level that he does at the beginning of the fight. You’re right, he has never been that distance but there’s always a first time. We’ll see how he reacts. It’s up to us to keep him calm.

Operator: Our next question comes from Gayle Falkenthal with Communities Digital News.

Gayle Falkenthal: Hi Abel. You just mentioned merging your style with the Cuban style of boxing in working with Sullivan. I’d like to know a little more about how you go about doing that. How do you merge a style of boxer that is a little different than your approach and get the best of both working for you?

Abel Sanchez: First you have to have a willing fighter. There’s a lot of Cuban fighters that just will not change. On my own with Sullivan, Sullivan was willing to do anything that I asked him to do. So if I’m having that luck in the gym that just shows him that we can change, that we can combine styles and make them better.

I wasn’t trying to change his Cuban style. What I was trying to do is just make him a little more aggressive, make him sit down on his punches a little bit more, have better balance, a little better positioning and technique with his legs. But we haven’t really changed it. We’ve added to it and by adding the two styles together I think that it just gives more opportunities to do what he has to do.

Gayle Falkenthal: Now I’m not going to ask you to name names but have you ever had a Cuban fighter come to you and want to work with you that you had to turn down for the reasons you just described?

Abel Sanchez: Actually no. I had Mikey Perez for a little while and he went off somewhere else. But I’ve never had anybody decline because whether it’s Cuban, Mexican or whatever if you’re not willing to work to what I do in the gym there’s no sense in me having them. So right off the bat we would’ve separated. There was no way that I would’ve worked with somebody that didn’t want to cooperate.

Gayle Falkenthal: So the question is have you ever had to turn someone down for that reason?

Abel Sanchez: No.

Gayle Falkenthal: No – don’t need any names.

Abel Sanchez: No Cubans, no. I’ve turned other fighters down but no Cubans.

David Itskowitch: Okay. Sullivan or Abel anyone have any closing thoughts?

Sullivan Barrera: Yes I’d like to thank my team, I’d like to thank HBO, I’d like to thank everybody that’s concerned that has something to do with me fighting Andre Ward. I promise that I will – to all the TV viewers that I will put up a great fight and I look forward to March 26.

David Itskowitch: Thank you. Kathy, anything to say in closing?

Kathy Duva: I want to think you Dave and Roc Nation Sports for the opportunity. And we’re all looking forward to March 26. It’s going to be a blast.

David Itskowitch: Thank you very much. And just in closing I wanted to thank everyone for being on the call today. Thank you to Andre and Sullivan, Kathy, Abel, Luis and everyone that joined us. Again March 26, Oracle Arena, Oakland, live on HBO. If you’re in the Bay Area get your tickets on Ticketmaster now. If you’re not going to be in the Bay Area you don’t really have a good excuse. But if you absolutely can’t be in the Bay Area please tune in on HBO at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT.

Thank you again and we will see everyone next week in Oakland.

Dillon Cook Counting Down Days for ShoBox Debut!

Seneca, MO (March 18, 2016) – On March 25, junior middleweight prospect Dillon “White Lightning” Cook will find himself in a familiar place but with a new challenge when he battles Justin DeLoach in an eight round bout on ShoBox: The New Generation at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK.

Tickets for the event promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Holden Productions are $45, $55 and $75 and can be purchased by logging onto Buffalorun.com or Stubwire.com.

Unbeaten in 16 professional bouts with six wins by knockout, Cook’s fought five of his last seven matches at the Buffalo Run, winning handily each time. A member of Holden Productions’ “Four State Franchise”, the popular Cook is from nearby Seneca, MO and fought in front of sellout crowds on multiple occasions. While these are definite advantages for Cook, DeLoach comes into the ring with an impressive background.

Against DeLoach, 13-1 (7 KO’s), Cook is taking a significant step up in competition and will do so before a national audience. Hailing from Augusta, GA and based in Houston, TX, DeLoach trained alongside top fighters including IBF junior middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, undefeated Jermell Charlo, Bryan Vera and Edwin Rodriguez amongst others. Recently, Team DeLoach announced that his new chief second is former two division champion Paul Williams and highly respected George Peterson will work as an assistant.

To prepare for DeLoach, Cook’s been training out of the Heartland Boxing Gym and travels to various gyms for sparring as he anxiously waits for the opening bell on March 25.

“I’m excited for the fight but trying not to let the pressure of fighting on TV get to me,” said Cook, a former National Junior Golden Gloves titlist and six time Kansas City Golden Gloves winner. “(To specifically prepare for DeLoach) we’re working on (technique to counter) his style. DeLoach is a good fighter I’ve seen him fight a few times he’s fast and a busy fighter but I’m pretty fast myself. I expect to match his speed, if not beat it.”

Cook also acknowledges his advantages and never second guessed taking the step up in competition.

“I’m a smart fighter and can adapt well (plus the) hometown crowd is definitely a benefit. I knew we’d step (up the competition in the near future) and this is a great time for it. I’ve had 16 professional fights and am ready to show the world that I’m capable of going to the next level.”

Cook’s promoter, Tony Holden, is confident in his fighter and believes the locals will come out droves to support him.

“I’m proud to see him get a shot on a national stage. He’s a key part of the “Four State Franchise” and is a big crowd draw. He’s worked very hard and I expect him to put forth a tremendous performance. I’d like to personally thank Showtime as well for this incredible opportunity.”

The Cook-DeLoach bout opens up a quadrupleheader live on Showtime (10:30 PM ET). The card also features highly regarded junior welterweight Regis Prograis (16-0) against Aaron Herrera (29-4-1), two showdowns where somebody’s 0 must go between unbeaten welterweights Ivan Golub (10-0) and Marlon Aguas (9-0) and junior welterweights Ivan Baranchyk (9-0) vs Nicholas Givhan (16-0-1)

Eubank Jr. claims Blackwell doesn’t really want to fight him, will get stopped – just like ‘Spike’

LONDON (18 MARCH) Chris Eubank Jr. says British middleweight champion Nick ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell will go the same way as his last opponent, Gary ‘Spike’ O’Sullivan, when the pair meet on March 26 at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

Three months ago Eubank Jr. settled a bitter feud with O’Sullivan by stopping the Irishman in seven rounds, and next weekend, live on Channel 5, he looks to do the same to Blackwell, a man who has claimed Eubank Jr. has been avoiding him for much of his career.

“It’s laughable for him to say I’ve been avoiding him,” said Eubank Jr., 21-1 (16 KOs). “He’s a boring guy. He has to say something to try and get some attention. His stories about me avoiding him are fantasy. He wants to get under my skin by saying I’m scared and have been dodging him.

“The truth is, every single middleweight in Britain has at some point said on Twitter that they’d love to fight Chris Eubank Jr. They’ve said it to their friends and to their promoter. I get tweets from fighters all the time. I guess I’ve ducked every fighter in Britain then. It doesn’t make any sense.

“It’s exactly the same as O’Sullivan – be careful what you wish for. Blackwell and O’Sullivan are in the same situation. They talk it up, they know they’re going to get paid nicely and that is genuinely the only reason why they want these fights. They know they are not on my level. They just want a payday. Blackwell will get a payday, but he’ll also get beaten.

“A fight between Blackwell and O’Sullivan would be close. I couldn’t say who would win. They both have different styles but are one dimensional, in my opinion. It wouldn’t be a very exciting fight.”

Eubank Jr.’s win over O’Sullivan marked his third stoppage victory of 2015 and showcased the Brighton man at his most aggressive and potent.

“I did everything I needed to do,” he recalled. “I went in there, made a statement and punished him for the disrespect he had shown me in the lead up to the fight. I boxed him into submission and made him quit. I made him give up. That’s the most dishonourable thing you can do in boxing really. He gave up when he could have continued.

“A knockout is lovely, but to see someone really and truly understand that there is no way they can win is a nice feeling as well. He realised he was being hurt, outboxed, outfought, humiliated and was out of his depth. He’s a strong guy and all it takes is one punch, but for him to think that he didn’t even have that chance – a puncher’s chance – says a lot. He knew there was no way he could win. That was very satisfying.”

*** Tickets for the British middleweight title blockbuster between Nick ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell and Chris Eubank Jr. are priced at £35, £50, £75, £175, £200 and £250 for ringside and can be purchased online at ssearena.co.uk and axs.com or by phoning the SSE Arena, Wembley Box Office on 0844 815 0815 ***

Lauren defends WBC World title against Habazin on April 23 in Stockholm

Mikaela Lauren (26-3, 11 KOs) will defend her WBC Female World Super Welterweight title against former IBF World Champion Ivana Habazin (15-2, 6 KOs) on April 23 at the Hovet in Stockholm.

Lauren returns following a fifth-round TKO victory over Jennifer Retzke to put her WBC title on the line against the tough 26 year-old Croatian Habazin.

Their World Championship contest will provide chief support for IBF Intercontinental Champion Erik Skoglund’s battle with Ryno ‘The Lion’ Liebenberg – in what promises to be the biggest boxing event in Sweden since the 1960s.

‘’Ivana is a great opponent,’’ said Lauren. ‘’I’ve wanted to fight her for years, and finally I will get the chance to stand eye-to-eye with her in the ring.

‘’She is a former World Champion, and technically a very good fighter. I believe she is one of the best female fighters in the World. She has also never been stopped before, and went all ten rounds with Cecilia Brækhus. It will be a tough fight, but I want to make a statement by becoming the first fighter to stop her.

‘’I’m training super hard right now. This is my toughest training camp and I’m going to better prepared than ever before. I feel stronger than ever and I really have my eyes set on the goal.’’

Lauren is looking forward to defending her title at her hometown arena. ‘’It’s a dream come true to fight so close to home,’’ she said. ‘’I live only five minutes away from the Hovet so it couldn’t be a better occasion for me.’’

Hoping to turn this dream into a nightmare is the former IBF World Champion Ivana Habazin, who is confident she can dethrone the Swedish fighter and claim her second World title.

‘’Mikaela has very good physical predispositions,’’ she says. ‘’She trains well, but she doesn’t have the talent to match, and that’s visible in the ring.

‘’To take the WBC title off her would be a huge pleasure. My goal is to win all of the World titles, and beating Mikaela, will put me on the right path. Once I have the title, I will not be giving it away easily. I will beat whoever stands in front of me.

‘’I’m really looking forward to coming to Stockholm and putting on a good show for the Swedish fans. I hope they will support me once I am World Champion.’’

Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’This is a great match-up between two of the very best female fighters in the World. Ivana Habazin is a former World Champion, and at just 26 years of age, is still young, hungry fighter. Mikaela will need to use all her experience and know-how to get through this fight and successful defend her title.

‘’This is the second fight confirmed for our massive Nordic Fight Night show on April 23 at the Hovet. We will have more announcement to make at a press conference next week in Stockholm.’’

The Nordic Fight Night hits the Hovet in Stockholm on April 23. IBF Intercontinental Champion Erik Skoglund faces Ryno Liebenberg and WBC Female Super Welterweight Champion Mikaela Lauren takes on Ivana Habazin. Further information including ticket details and undercard announcements will be released shortly.

Opening up the televised action, Cancun’s own Ricardo “Torito” Perez (9-2, 8 KOs) faces off with Barranquilla, Colombia’s Mauricio Fuentes (18-5, 12 KOs) for the WBC Silver Light Flyweight.

The non-televised undercard features seven fights full of action, headlined by Roberto “Tito” Manzanarez (32-1, 26 KOs) of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico taking on Carlos Adan “El Relampago” Jacobo (12-13-1, 9 KOs) from Guamuchil, Sinaloa, Mexico in a10-round lightweight fight. Salazar vs. Jimenez, a 10-round bout for the WBC Women’s Heavyweight Title and presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Cancun Boxing de Pepe Gomez. The FOX Deportes broadcast begins at 9:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. PT.

San Francisco native Martha “The Shadow” Salazar has long set a high bar for women in the heavyweight division, fighting all comers since her debut in 2001, including Kisha Snow, Vonda Ward and Marsha Valley, winning the WIBF championship in the process. In 2013, following a six-year break from the sport, Salazar returned to the ring with a victory over highly-regarded Sonya “The Scholar” Lamonakis, and one fight later, on November 8, 2014, she shut out Tanzee “Sweet Tea” Daniel to win the WBC Women’s Heavyweight World Championship. On March 18, the 46-year-old makes her first title defense.

Mexico City’s Alejandra “La Tigre” Jimenez turned professional in 2014, and since then, the 28-year-old “La Tigre” has risen quickly to the top of the heavyweight division, with three wins in 2015 putting her in a title fight against Salazar. Fresh from a second-round technical knockout victory of Carmen Garcia on November 27, this hard-hitting rising star hopes to bring a world title home to Mexico when she faces one of the sport’s most respected champions.

Torreon, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Mexico’s super lightweight contender Roberto “Massa” Ortiz is the winner of two consecutive victory since his first suffering his first defeat at the hands of the heavy-handed, Lucas “La Maquina” Matthysse in 2014. So far, he has his sights on getting back into the title picture defeating Juan Jesus Rivera and Nestor Fernando Garcia. But first, he must turn back the challenge of the upset-minded Salgado, a hard-hitting 31-year-old from Cartagena who is coming off the biggest win of his career over longtime contender Walter Estrada in February.

A thunderous puncher who has ended eight of his nine professional victories by knockout, Cancun’s Ricardo Perez has won three consecutive bouts dating back to 2014, with two of those victories earning him the WBC Silver title in the minimum weight and light flyweight divisions. Now firmly established at 108 pounds, the 24-year-old looks to follow up his technical knockout win over Noe Medina last August with another signature victory in his hometown on March 18. Standing in Perez’ way is Barranquilla’s Mauricio Fuentes, a former world title challenger looking to spoil his opponent’s homecoming.

Unbeaten in eleven fights since 2012, 20-year-old phenom Roberto “Tito” Manzanarez makes his first appearance of 2016 on March 18. Manzanarez has been on a wining streak defeated seasoned veterans Ricardo “Piolo” Castillo and Hector “Charro Negro” Velasquez and in 2015 Manzanarez defeated Edgar “Lupillo” Ramirez, Daniel “El Mulato” Valenzuela, and Christian “Veneno” Lopez. Now in 2016, Carlos Adam Jacobo is standing in his way to championship glory. Former holder of the WBC Fecombox Super Bantamweight Title, Jacobo has had an up-and-down career since his professional debut in 2008. The fighter is known to be a warrior in the ring and will be looking to start off 2016 on the right foot when he goes up against Manazanarez on March 18.

Aung La N Sang returned to Yangon, Myanmar to an eruption of cheers from his hometown crowd. “The Burmese Python” weathered the early storm from opponent Mohamed Ali of Egypt to secure a deep Guillotine Choke to force Ali to tap out. Aung La showed technical finesse as well as true grit and determination in overcoming a spirited effort from Ali. After the bout, Aung La then took the time to call out ONE Middleweight World Champion, Vitaly Bigdash.

“We did it guys! We did it,” said Aung La. “Bigdash, you have my belt! We want that belt!”

Former flyweight champion Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes of Brazil successfully returned to the ONE Cage after losing the title in his last bout, defeating charismatic opponent Eugene Toquero of the Philippines. Midway into the fight, Toquero rocked Moraes with a flying knee and follow up strikes. This caused Moraes to rely on his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills to carry him to victory. Once on the mat, Moraes sunk in a D’Arce Choke to seal the deal.

Tha Pyay Nyo remains unbeaten inside the ONE Cage with a gutsy performance against fellow Burmese fighter Kyal Sin Phyo. The two battled to near exhaustion for three rounds to the delight of the crowd, but in the end, it was Tha Pyay Nyo who emerged victorious. A barrage of strikes which landed for Tha Pyay Nyo compelled the referee to step in and call a halt to the contest.

Evolve-MMA’s Christian “The Warrior” Lee turned in a masterful performance, completely dominating opponent Anthony “The Archangel” Engelen with vicious strikes and solid ground control. Lee showcased his array of dazzling spin kicks but it was his zippy left hooks that found a home on Engelen’s chin. After dropping Engelen with a punch, Lee chased him to the mat and finished him off with ground-and-pound.

Lethwei golden belt champions Kyal Linn Aung and Thway Thit Aung graced the international MMA scene, putting on an exciting performance inside the ONE Cage. Both fighters traded heavy blows for the majority of the three round bout, but Kyal Linn Aung’s infamous punch resistance carried him to victory as he overpowered Thway Thit Aung to win by unanimous decision.

Alex “Little Rock” Silva of Brazil overcame a workmanlike performance from Robin “The Ilonggo” Catalan of the Philippines, winning by submission over his third straight Catalan opponent. Catalan had some success trading blows with Silva at the center of the cage, but Silva constantly looked for the takedown and was finally able to get it deep in the first round. An arm triangle choke forced Catalan to tap out shortly after.

Local mixed martial artists Phoe Thaw and Saw L Lay put on a show for fans in Yangon, exchanging strikes at the center of the cage to loud cheers of the packed crowd. Thaw used his reach advantage to keep L Lay at bay with stinging jabs. On the ground, Thaw gained full mount and delivered ground-and-pound to attain the referee stoppage.

Filipino featherweight Edward “The Ferocious” Kelly of Team Lakay offset a spirited effort from debuting fighter Jordan “Showtime” Lucas of Australia, winning by submission in the first round. After a couple of successful takedowns from Lucas, Kelly was able to sneak in a rear naked choke, forcing the previously unbeaten Australian to tap out.

Burmese combatants Thar A Thal Ta Pwint and Kyaw Kyar gave fans a taste of some local flavor with a good, solid contest. In a short bout, Ta Pwint danced inside the cage victorious after securing mount and finishing Kyar with ground-and-pound.

Theophane and Love held court at the Mayweather Boxing Club as they went discussed their upcoming showdowns with media.

Here is what the fighters had to say Thursday:

ASHLEY THEOPHANE

“The focus is to go in there and outwork him on fight night. At the end of the day I have to set the pace. I can’t go out there and outbox him because he’s got tremendous skill and speed. So I have to be able to go out there and outwork him and make it a war.

“When he sees that I’m still there in round 5, he’s going to start to get worried. My whole thing on fight night is to work and bring a war.

“As a boxer, you want to fight the best, and you want these big nights. For me, it’s been a hard road to get to this point, and I’m actually looking forward to fight night because I know it’s going to be a very hard fight, and I know in order for me to win I have to be at my best, and that’s what I have prepared for.

“I’ve been sparring a lot of strong young men in camp; a lot of guys who many believe will be future stars of boxing, and I’ve been doing very well, so I’m more than ready. It’s just a matter of counting down the days now.

“My career shows that if you believe in yourself and never give up, you will get your opportunity. At that point, it’s just up to you to take it.

“I feel I will be able to match him come fight night. I know I’m the big underdog, I know I’m not being given the chance to win, but I really believe we are going to prove the doubters wrong and be world champ come April 1.

“It just became real to be in the same place with him [Broner] at the press conference. It was more motivation to come back in the gym. Once we got back, the guys here at the gym saw me sparring the next day and said they can tell he had motivated me. He can talk, but on fight night, we have to fight. He said he’s going to stop me in 4 rounds, so I’ll be looking forward to seeing that because I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to be there for the whole 12 rounds.

“Mayweather Promotions believed in me from the very start and they flew with me in the deep end. I have improved from being around Floyd, and watching him. You have to improve with being around him-the best fighter of all time-you have to improve.”

J’LEON LOVE

“Training has been great; I’m healthy, I’m focused, my weight is not bad, I can’t complain. I actually took a week off in September of last year, and have been right back in the gym. We’ve been training ever since for 5 or 6 months now, so we were already ahead.

“This guy [Gbenga], despite his record, has been in the ring more times than me, so he is a lot more experienced. He can survive, or do little things that can upset my game plan, but at the same time, I’ve been there done that, and just ready to showcase my talent.

“Every fight is important, whether it’s the first couple of fights, or now. To me, this is a stay busy fight-stay busy, showcase my talent, look impressive, and show that we’re ready for a world title. Not just fight for a world title, but win a world title. Be a world champion. Continue to reach different levels in the game.

“I’m hungry, I feel like this is already written for me. I didn’t make it this far for nothing, or to be a contender. For a world championship fight, I’m going to definitely seize the moment so I’m going to go out there and do what I do best, and that is to fight.

“I’m a pretty slick fighter, very smart fighter, so I’ve dissected him already and he makes a lot of mistakes. I think he’ll fall into the trap, and I feel like I will get him out of there. I’m very confident in my training and my ability.”

Destructive Nick Webb looks to continue his run of first round knockouts on March 26

LONDON (18 MARCH) Undefeated heavyweight Nick Webb has yet to go beyond the two-minute mark as a professional boxer – stopping all four of his opponents within the very first round – and is out to make quick work of his next victim on March 26 at The SSE Arena, Wembley.

Twenty-eight-year-old Webb turned professional in March 2015 and, since then, has knocked out a variety of European journeymen, the last of which, Angel Angelov, was downed with a body shot in just 26 seconds.

“Listen, I’m a heavyweight,” said Chertsey-based Webb. “We want to get in and out of there as quick as we can. I’m happy with the way it’s going at the moment – I’m getting in and out – but if my next fight goes into the second round that’s fine, too. At least I’ll be experiencing something new and learning.

“I’ve always had heavy hands. I used to be a shot putter and discus thrower at a high level and I think that has helped me develop power. Also, as an amateur boxer, I had 27 fights and won 18 by knockout, so I knew I could hit. But being with Scott (Welch, trainer) has helped me refine my game a bit more. He was a puncher himself back in the day and he’s shown me lots of the tricks of the trade and plenty of new techniques.”

In pro fight number two, Webb defeated Hungary’s Martin Szatmari in 1 minute 57 seconds of the opening round – his longest outing to date – and remembers the venue, The SSE Arena, Wembley, fondly.

“I love being on the big stage,” he said. “It’s what I’m all about. I’m thrilled to be fighting at The SSE Arena, Wembley again. I had my second pro fight there and it was an amazing feeling.

“I want these big nights. I want to be winning the Southern Area this year, perhaps by September time, and eventually I want to go all the way and become heavyweight champion of the world.

“To get there, I need experience. That’s why I’ve sparred the likes of Dereck Chisora, Richard Towers and the current Italian champion, Salvatore Erittu. I’m sparring some decent fighters who have competed at a much higher level than I have.”

Suffice to say, Webb won’t have to look too far for inspiration. After all, the heavyweight division in Britain – led by world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury – is positively booming right now.

“Tyson Fury is the best heavyweight we have,” said Webb, 4-0 (4 KOs). “He’s the one with all the belts. He’s the one who beat The Man (Wladimir Klitschko). He’s definitely the most awkward and hard to beat heavyweight out there. If you were to fight him, you wouldn’t be worried, but he’d be very hard to beat.

“Anthony Joshua is the second best heavyweight we have and he’s a banger. He can catch you and knock you out. But, on the other hand, he can also be caught and hurt and is probably easier to beat than Fury.

“I’d love to see them two get it on at some point. That would be very entertaining and exciting to watch.”

I don’t put too much emphasis on one individual thing, whether that’s speed or power, it’s about having all the boxes ticked going into the fight. I know what Canelo does well, and his key attributes, so we’ll be looking to nullify those. I’m going to keep pushing myself hard in training and will be ready to give everything come fight night.”

“I’m pleased with how our training camp is going,” said Virgil Hunter, trainer to Amir Khan. “Amir is very focused, and he is aware of the challenge that lies before him. We have seen a lot of Canelo and know what to expect so we’ll have the right game plan to overcome him.”

Canelo won the WBC Middleweight World Championship on November 21, 2015 by defeating Puerto Rico’s four division World Champion and future Hall of Famer Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33 KOs) via unanimous decision at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Amir Khan was last seen in the ring defeating former WBO Super Lightweight World Champion, Chris Algieri (21-2, 8 KOs) via unanimous decision in May 2015 to maintain his WBC Silver Welterweight title.

Canelo vs. Khan, a 12-round fight for Canelo’s WBC, Ring Magazine and Lineal Middleweight World Championships, is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Canelo Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, BORN BOLD, O’Reilly Auto Parts and Casa Mexico Tequila. The mega-event will take place on Saturday, May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

Promoter Cohen Congratulates Crolla for Being a True Champion

Promoter Greg Cohen wishes to congratulate WBA World Lightweight Champion Anthony Crolla for being just that… a true champion.

Crolla (30-4-3, 12 KOs) has chosen to ignore pleas from domestic promoters in his native England to engage in a showdown with WBO Champion Terry Flanagan and instead make his mandatory defense and face Cohen’s fighter, Interim WBA World Champion Ismael Barroso on May 7 at the Manchester Arena.

Barroso, with his intimidating 19-0-2, 18 KOs record and terrifying punching power, is considered a much more dangerous challenge to Crolla.

“You have to give your respect to Crolla,” said Cohen. “Crolla could have easily chosen to take the easier route of vacating his belt and fighting Flanagan, like Derry Matthews did, but he didn’t. That’s what true champions do.”

Barroso, of El Tigre, Venezuela, is slowly earning the reputation as the most dangerous lightweight on the planet. And while Cohen congratulates Crolla for his courage, he doesn’t necessarily think it was a smart career move.

“With his ferocity in the ring, Barroso reminds every one of his late countryman Edwin Valero and the KO he’s going to score over Crolla will be his coming out party to the boxing world,” continued Cohen. “This fight is like when Gennady Golovkin fought Grzegorz Proksa in his US premium cable debut. Ismael Barroso simply needs to be seen on USA premium cable and once he is, the USA boxing fans will fall in love with him! Fans love Knockouts!! He essentially Knocked out the highly respected Kevin Mitchell with a jab to win the WBA Interim Lightweight World Championship. He’s a superstar in the making.”

Building a Better Heavyweight: The Medical Dream Team Behind Undefeated Heavyweight Justin ‘Jawbreaker’ Jones

A prominent group of experts has been assembled to form the team behind undefeated boxer Justin “Jawbreaker” Jones and together, they are building a better heavyweight.

Louisiana-born and Houston-based heavyweight Justin Jones is still a relative unknown on the world boxing scene, but based on the support he receives in training, that may be about to change.

Heading up the team is Jones’ advisor, a man once known as the youngest promoter in Louisiana State history, Kerry Daigle.

Daigle, a long-time respected staple of the Southern boxing scene, as well as a top executive for Juice Plus personal health and safety products, brought in some medical heavy hitters to assist coaches Maurice “Termite” Watkins and Eleazar Renteria with the hidden side of training a fighter: nutrition.

Dr. Roy Vartabedian is a best-selling international author who has specialized in the field of health promotion and disease prevention for over 30 years. He also holds a Master of Public Health degree in Health Education and Nutrition.

Vartabedian’s book, Nutripoints, was a New York Times Best-Seller, and has been used in a total of 13 countries in 10 languages worldwide.

“The challenge is when these guys are working out so much, once or twice a day, they’re actually having a problem with losing muscle because it’s hard for them to eat enough calories to maintain their weight,” said Vartabedian, “or the way they do it is unhealthy which will decrease their stamina and endurance.”

The average person, says Vartabedian only needs 2000 to 2500 calories per day. Heavyweight fighters in training need somewhere in the neighborhood of 4000 to 4500.

“Justin is at 232 lbs right now. He’s at his best at 238. So, he wants to be on an alkaline diet, which supposedly creates alkalinity in the body which is healthier than acidity for peak performance. That’s means a plant-based and unprocessed food diet. The problem with that kind of diet is it’s very high in bulk and low on calories. What I’ve done is fine tune it for him. I’ve given him a list of high-calorie, good fat foods and added them to his diet so he’s getting more calories and good fats and more fibre. I’m recommending to increase calories in a healthy way with lots of almonds, cashews, sunflowers seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, macadamia nuts, all unsalted. This will add about 500 calories to a person’s diet in about three handfuls a day.”

Dr. Charles H. Campbell is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, specializes in retinal disease. A world-renowned surgeon and the founder and Medical Director of South Texas Retina Consultants, Campbell has given his life to the treatment of macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and tears, macular holes and puckers, floaters, retinal vein occlusions, complications of cataract surgery, vitritis/uveitis.

Campbell has also lent his talents and know-how to the management of fighters, including former heavyweight contender Skip Scott.

“We’re making sure he stays in shape by maintaining a clean lifestyle,” said Campbell. “We make sure he’s eating right. I feel like athletes think they can get all the protein they want, but most of us get 110 grams a day, which is way too much. So, we can regulate his water and protein intake. He probably needs 10-12 servings of fruit, so we give him Juice Plus which is proven to put about 6 ½ servings into your body.”

Campbell says a common mistake fighters make is in their fluid intake.

“Most of these athletes don’t drink enough water. For his size he probably needs a gallon and a half a day. But mostly, I hope to help him make sure he doesn’t get off track and eat bad foods.”

Daigle has big plans for Jones, who recently signed with Warriors Boxing and Leon Margules, one of the top promotional firms in the world. It was Warriors Vice-President Dominic Pesoli who first gave Jones the added moniker of “Triple J.”

“There is no heavyweight that has better foot movement and throws more combinations than Triple J,” said Daigle. “Once given the opportunity Justin will surprise the world. There are a lot of taller heavyweights that are rated in the top 10 in every sanctioning body. These guys are made-to-order for him. We are excited about his future in the NEW heavyweight division.”

The fighter himself says the help of his medical dream team has been immeasurable already.

“The difference has been incredible,” said Jones. “I don’t want this secret to get out to other fighters! They both got me on Juice Plus for all its healthy vegetables and fruits and they’ve really changed my diet and given me a world of information on how to be healthy. I’ve changed how I eat with their help and it’s really benefitting me. I feel better more energized. When I started training I was 264. My last fight I was 230. It’s just getting me fit. Like a machine that can just go and go and go. That’s what they’re doing for me. I’m eating the right things to stay big but be in perfect shape at this size. I’m eating to gain weight and turning it to athletic muscle. They’re awesome. They’ve made a believer out of me.”

Nielsen and Larghetti come face-to-face at final press conference

Micki Nielsen (20-0, 14 KOs) and Mirko Larghetti (24-1, 16 KOs) came face-to-face for the first time at today’s final pre-fight press conference ahead of their WBC International Cruiserweight title fight on Saturday night at the Albertslund Musikteatret in Copenhagen.

Nielsen puts his WBC belt on the line against the former World title challenger, who is ranked number three in the World by the WBA, and will pose a serious threat to the Danish southpaw’s undefeated record and World title aspirations.

‘’This is the biggest fight of my career,’’ said Nielsen. ‘’A victory will prove I’m ready to face the very best in division. There is a lot at stake for me and my desire to win is stronger than ever. Larghetti is a good fighter with an impressive record, but he does not scare me. I’ve trained hard and I’m confident I will win.’’

Larghetti believes he will be the man to inflict Nielsen’s first defeat and has vowed not to leave Denmark without the WBC International title.

‘’Nielsen is a young, strong fighter,’’ said Larghetti. ‘’It will be a good fight, but I have come here to win, and I will not be going home without the title. My dream has always been to become World Champion, and if I win this fight, I will move closer to another shot at the World title. That gives me all the motivation I need.’’

Promoter Nisse Sauerland admits he has taken a risk by matching his young star against the tough Italian, but believes Nielsen is ready to step up and prove himself at World level.

‘’This is going to be tough test for Micki,’’ said Sauerland. ‘’Larghetti is a quality opponent. He went the distance with Marco Huck and caused him a lot of problems. It’s a risky fight, but we believe Micki is ready. He has the potential to become one of the best fighters in the division, and on Saturday night, he has the chance to prove it.’’

Tickets for the Nordic Fight Night on March 19 at the Albertslund Musikteatret featuring Micki Nielsen’s WBC International Cruiserweight title defence against Mirko Larghetti are available online via www.billetlugen.dk or by calling (+45) 70 263 267.

Long Awaited Victor Ortiz & Andre Berto Rematch Set for Primetime Saturday, April 30 As Premier Boxing Champions On FOX & FOX Deportes Comes To StubHub Center In Carson, Calif.

Victor Ortiz
CARSON, CALIF. (March 17, 2016) – Former welterweight world champions “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (31-5-2, 24 KOs) and Andre “The Beast” Berto (30-4, 23 KOs) will meet again in a 12-round welterweight rematch in primetime on Saturday, April 30 as Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on FOX and FOX Deportes comes to StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

Televised coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT and features two exciting undercard attractions. Light heavyweight sluggers Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriguez (28-1, 19 KOs) and Thomas “Top Dog” Williams Jr. (19-1, 13 KOs) meet in a 10-round brawl plus former three-division world champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel (54-5-2, 39 KOs) faces unbeaten Mexican brawler Jorge Lara (27-0-2, 19 KOs) in a 10-round featherweight battle.

Ortiz and Berto first faced off in their 2011 welterweight world title barn burner that garnered significant Fight of the Year buzz. The bout saw both men hit the canvas twice, including a thrilling round six in which each fighter was knocked down. In the end, Ortiz walked away with a unanimous decision. A victory in the rematch will propel the winner to the forefront of the world title picture in this stacked with talent division.

“I know I’m in for another war,” said Ortiz. “I’ve always been open to a rematch because Berto has a big mouth and something to prove. After our fight, he went on a losing streak, because I gave his opponents a blueprint on how to beat him. My losses have been unfortunate, but I wouldn’t want to come up against me at this stage in the game. My name is Victor and that’s no coincidence.”

“This is the fight the people have been waiting for and it’s time to give it to them,” said Berto. “I am in a good place mentally, physically and spiritually. I’ve never wanted my story to be perfect, that’s boring. Life is filled with ups and downs and I’ve embraced them all in my career. Everything I’ve been through has turned me into a savage. It’s time to close this chapter once and for all. I want his head!”

The undercard bouts are sure to feature exciting two-way action as the experienced veterans Rodriguez and Montiel look to hold-off rising contenders in Williams Jr. and Lara.

“This is a very big fight for the light heavyweight division,” said Rodriguez. “Thomas brings it, but so do I. You can expect fireworks from the opening bell as we are both looking to put on a sensational performance. That being said, the light heavyweight championship is right around the corner, and there is nothing that is going to stop me from getting there.”

“I’m thrilled to be fighting on this card,” Williams said. “When they called me about this fight, I said, ‘I love it, let’s make it happen.’ I think that it’s going to be a really exciting and fan-friendly matchup. Edwin is a strong fighter who I know is going to be prepared to bring it on fight night, and I’ll make sure I’m ready to do the same.”

“It’s a pleasure to be on this fight card and I promise an exciting night for the fans,” said Montiel. “I came up short in my last fight, but I am determined to become a world champion in a new weight class. I always come to fight and I will be throwing punches non-stop until I’m victorious on April 30.”

“I’m blessed to be back in the ring as part of this great night of fights,” said Lara. “My dream is to be a world champion, and to do that I have to beat fighters like Montiel. I respect my opponent, but right now he is on my way and nothing is going to stop me.”

Tickets for the live event, which is promoted by TGB Promotions, are priced at $209, $105, $53, and $27, plus applicable taxes, fees and service charges, are on sale now and are available for purchase online at AXS.com.

PBC on FOX in primetime debuted on January 23 and featured a thrilling three-fight card that was topped by undefeated star Danny Garcia conquering former world champion Robert Guerrero to claim a welterweight world title in a back-and-forth brawl. Another exciting contest in the welterweight division is sure to thrill those watching at home and the Southern California boxing fans in attendance.

“We are proud to be bringing this long awaited rematch to the StubHub Center and the Los Angeles boxing fans,” said Tom Brown of TGB Promotions. “Victor Ortiz and Andre Berto battled back in 2011, and their meeting on April 30 will take care of unfinished business.”

“After the overwhelming success of the return to boxing on FOX in January, after an almost 20 year absence, FOX Sports and FOX Deportes are thrilled to present the second Premier Boxing Champions fight on April 30,” said David Nathanson, FOX Sports Head of Business Operations.

“StubHub Center is excited to host this welterweight bout on Saturday, April 30,” said Katie Pandolfo, General Manager of StubHub Center. “We look forward to an exciting rematch and an electric atmosphere at the premier outdoor boxing venue in the United States.”

An exciting fighter who never shies away from action, Ortiz returned to the ring in December 2015 one year after injuring his hand during a third round stoppage of Manuel Perez. The 29-year-old stopped Gilberto Sanchez Leon in his last bout for his second victory in a row. Ortiz was a 147-pound world champion when he defeated Berto in 2011 to set up a showdown with Floyd Mayweather. The Kansas-native has spent time in recent years to film roles in movies such as “Southpaw” and “The Expendables 3” but is now fully focused on a return to the pinnacle of the welterweight division.

Berto is a former amateur standout and Olympian for his native Haiti. He challenged now-retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather in September. The offensive-minded Berto always makes for sensational scraps as his 2012 slugfest with Robert Guerrero was another Fight of the Year candidate. The 32-year-old thrilled in his PBC debut last March when he stopped Josesito Lopez in the sixth round of their welterweight showdown.

An accomplished amateur who won a 2006 National Golden Gloves gold medal and a 2005 U.S. National Championship gold medal, the 30-year-old Rodriguez enters this fight a winner of his last four fights. Born in the Dominican Republic but fighting out of Worcester, Massachusetts, Rodriguez’s only loss came to the undefeated Andre Ward in 2013. He owns impressive victories over previously unbeaten fighters Will Rosinsky, Jason Escalera, Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna, Craig Baker and Michael Seals. Against Seals, in his most recent bout on November 13, Edwin rose from the canvas to score a devastating third-round TKO in what was a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate.

Williams Jr., a 28-year-old from Fort Washington, Maryland, was introduced to boxing by his father, a former pro fighter. A dynamite puncher, Williams Jr. has registered seven of his 13 knockouts in the first round. However, the southpaw has also proven his endurance with unanimous decision victories over warriors like Michael Gbenga, Yusaf Mack and Otis Griffin. Most recently he earned two victories, including a second-round TKO over world-ranked contender Umberto Savigne last November.

The veteran Montiel won his first world title in 2000 over Isidro Garcia and went on to have title winning performances over Pedro Alzacar, Ivan Hernandez, Z Gorres, Ciso Morales and Hozumi Hasegawa. Born in Sinaloa, Mexico, Montiel rode an eight-fight win streak heading into his October world title shot against Lee Selby. Montiel’s aggressive style frustrated Selby but it was not enough for him to grab a title in his fourth weight class.

Undefeated out of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Lara made his U.S. debut on March 7, 2015 with a first round stoppage of Mario Macias in Las Vegas. The 25-year-old has ended seven of his last nine opponents early including experienced contenders Jovanny Soto, Jairo Hernandez and Oscar Ibarra. He looks to rebound from a technical draw in his last outing after the fight was stopped in six rounds due to numerous cuts Lara had received from accidental headbutts.
