MATCHROOM BOXING FOUNDATION BACKS GOLDEN GLOVES ABC IN LIVERPOOL

The Golden Gloves ABC in Liverpool received a £5,000 donation today as the first amateur boxing club to receive funding and support from the Matchroom Boxing Foundation.

Promoter Eddie Hearn stepped in with emergency funds in June when the club were forced out of the Toxteth-base it called home for 12 years through rising rents, but with this cash-injection and the keys for a new gym being collected on Tuesday, the future looks bright for the famed club.

Founded in 1947, the Golden Gloves ABC currently houses 30 male and female amateur fighters, and boasts products from 1972 Olympic bronze medallist George Turpin to current amateur stand-out Anthony Fowler, as well as opening its doors to over 30 recreational users from the city every night.

“The Matchroom Boxing Foundation’s financial help and support has saved this club,” said Golden Gloves ABC coach Wayne Smith. “The club is vital for the community and it means the world to some of the kids we have coming down. There’s some real talent in the club, but more than that, Golden Gloves gives them something to focus on and shows teaches them so much more about life than just how to throw a jab.

“In a couple of months’ time the gym will be ready to roll and we are all so excited to move into our new premises and as the first club to benefit from the Foundation, I hope that we can do some great things to show how important it is to back local boxing clubs.”

Hearn said that he intends to initially assist up to 20 clubs all over Britain through the Foundation, speaking of his desire to inject both money and expertise into the grassroots of the sport, and reach out to the government and councils to assist these important institutions.

“It is important to invest in all levels of the sport,” said Hearn. “We have the elite boxers in the country and we’ve brought many Team GB amateurs into the paid ranks, but I feel we have a responsibility now to help the grassroots of the game.

“We’re not just going to write cheques and walk away – the support is more than just financial, it’s equipment, tickets and perhaps most importantly, advice.

“The Golden Gloves ABC is just one of many clubs that is in need of help. The money is great but we are here to offer them advice to attract more support. The cash injection keeps the going in the short-term, but it’s the support that will see them grow and thrive.

“Wayne and the rest of the people at the club give up their time to keep the club going – without support, amateur clubs are just not viable businesses, and we need to look at them as businesses for them to survive.

“We’re going to push the government and councils to look at the role of boxing clubs in the community and get them to recognise the great and vital role they play. The Matchroom Boxing Foundation can only help to a certain level, so we are going to be working

“We have a problem in the UK with obesity in kids, and discipline and respect too – boxing can play a massive role in addressing these issues. There are World champion fighters all over the world that will tell you that without boxing, their lives would have gone down the wrong path, what we need to do is get the powers that be to recognise the work of the clubs and take measures to support and encourage them and more.”

SHAMROCK – GRACIE III

SANTA MONICA, CALIF. (November 6) – It’s a pairing that is synonymous with the sport of mixed martial arts — Ken Shamrock versus Royce Gracie — and Bellator MMA is pleased to bring these two pioneers together for a third time on Feb. 19 at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas at “Bellator 149: Shamrock vs. Gracie.”

While this mega-fight is more than enough to round out the latest tentpole offering from Scott Coker and company, everything is bigger in Texas and that’s why in addition to the aforementioned blockbuster main event, Kimbo Slice will meet the man who has been calling him out since the two parted ways years ago, Dhafir Harris, better known as “Dada 5000.”

Tickets for this MMA extravaganza start at $30 and go on sale Saturday, November 14 at Bellator.com, as well as HoustonToyotaCenter.com, Toyota Center Box Office and Houston area Randall’s locations.

Gracie is a living legend, considered by many as the Godfather of MMA. This iconic pioneer of the sport is returning to competition for the first time in almost a decade for the third fight in his trilogy against fellow MMA great Ken “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” Shamrock.

Since returning to action earlier this year, Shamrock has made it clear that his present MMA run is about closing the book on longstanding feuds and solidifying his place as one of the sports all-time greats.

The two great warriors fought twice before in their illustrious careers, with Gracie defeating Shamrock in November 1993 via submission and then later in April of 1995, when the two fought to draw in an unforgettable 36-minute bout.

Kimbo Slice’s meteoric rise to fame from Miami street fighter to wildly popular MMA fighter is legendary. After his triumphant victory at the record-breaking “Bellator 138: Unfinished Business” event in June, Slice returns to action with more than merely victory on his mind.

Harris, a childhood friend and former bodyguard of Kimbo, also gained acclaim from his promotion and participation in the rugged world of street fighting. The story of the South Florida-resident was brought to the forefront of the combat sports world recently in the documentary entitled “Dawg Fight.”

Now, the two former street warriors are set to write the final chapter of their beef in front of millions of people worldwide as Dada 5000 takes his prodigious brawling skills to the Bellator MMA cage against Kimbo Slice.

You won’t want to miss “Bellator 149: Shamrock vs. Gracie” on Feb. 19. With not one, but two main events airing live and free on Spike, the latest and greatest from Bellator MMA promises to close the book on two very different rivalries.

BOXING’S MOST INFLUENTIAL WOMEN TO “STAY GOLDEN” AT RAGING BABE BRUNCH

LAS VEGAS – November 5, 2015 – In less than three weeks, fight fans and boxing’s top industry talents from all over the world will descend on the “Boxing Capital of the World” for the highly anticipated clash between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Miguel Cotto. On the morning of the November 21st showdown, boxing’s brightest and most influential women will gather for brunch at Mandalay Bay to honor Golden Boy Promotions’ Vice President of Operations, Monica Sears. This year’s event, dubbed “Stay Golden,” will continue the long-standing Raging Babe tradition of hosting events that are exclusive, powerful platforms for building personal and professional relationships between boxing businesswomen.

This year’s Raging Babe Brunch, the sixth such event, will be hosted by “Raging Babe” Michelle Rosado, and “The First Lady of Boxing,” Jackie Kallen. This year’s honoree, the multi-talented Monica Sears, first began her journey with Golden Boy Promotions in 2007 as a Public Relations Coordinator. She quickly established herself as the go-to person for the company, its fighters, television, venue and sponsorship partners, and media. In 2010, she was promoted to Director of Communications and Events. It was in this role that she earned accolades for her “in the trenches,” all-encompassing style of producing boxing events. If she wasn’t accommodating or credentialing media at an event, she was backstage, in the ring, advising a camera operator of the best angle… In short, she was everywhere. In 2013, she was promoted to her current role of Vice President of Operations for the boxing powerhouse. Said Eric Gomez, Golden Boy Promotions’ Sr. Vice President of Sears, “I am very proud of Monica and her development as a promoter. In my opinion she is the hardest working woman in boxing. It is a pleasure to have her on our team.”

Past Raging Babe event honorees have included Jackie Kallen, Public Relations ace Kelly Swanson, TV trailblazer Claudia Trejos, Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame Chief Operating Officer Michelle Corrales-Lewis, and, most recently, heart transplant recipient and the epitome of a “Raging Babe,” Kennedy Cunningham. “The Raging Babe Brunch and other events have far exceeded any expectations I had when I conceived this idea of bringing women together to network and share their experiences and triumphs as women in the boxing industry,” said Michelle Rosado. “Lifetime friendships and business partnerships have been forged at previous events, and Stay Golden will be no different. It’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to honor Monica Sears, and I’m thrilled to see the event continue to grow and be successful.”

Rosado mentor Jackie Kallen, who has been an enduring presence at Raging Babe events, will be on hand to co-host the event. “I couldn’t be happier to step into the role of co-host at this valuable event,” said Kallen. “I am thrilled to see both Raging Babe the company, and ‘Raging Babe’ Michelle Rosado continue to bring women together to move forward in a productive way in the boxing industry. Monica Sears is the perfect honoree for this occasion, given the magnitude of that weekend’s fights, and the many others she produced.”

This year’s event is made possible by the generous support of the World Boxing Council and Youth Fighting Forward, a New York-based non-profit organization dedicated to creating champions inside and outside the ring. Youth Fighting Forward has branches in Brooklyn and in Danbury, Connecticut.

MIKE “HOLLYWOOD” JIMENEZ COMES HOME TO CHICAGO ON NOVEMBER 25TH

CHICAGO — November 5, 2015 — One of Chicago’s favorite sons, Mike “Hollywood” Jimenez, returns to the Windy City on November 25th in the main event at Fight Night at the Horseshoe, the popular Hitz Boxing fight series, where he will compete for the NABA Super Middleweight and the WBC Continental Americas Super Middleweight titles. Jimenez is coming off of a spectacular knockout win over Argentinian Francisco Ramon Benitez, a fight that earned Jimenez the UBF All-American Super Middleweight title. Jimenez’s fight with Benitez, which took place in Victoria, Australia, put Jimenez back in the win column after he suffered a highly-questionable stoppage versus Jesse Hart on the undercard of Mayweather-Pacquiao in May.

“It was a good opportunity for me to fight away from home, and be in a different realm,” said Jimenez of his last two fights. “It was good experience to fight around a different fan base where you don’t have the whole house going for you. You’re away from home, you don’t know anybody. It’s just you and the guy across the ring from you.”

Jimenez didn’t let the change in venue get into his head. “My mentality stays the same. I’m there to do one job – to take the guy out. At the end of the day, that’s really the only thing on my mind. Getting the win.”

Fighting away from home gave Jimenez a new appreciation for fighting in front of his friends, family and fans. “It means a great deal to me to come home to Chicago,” said Jimenez of his upcoming fight. “I have a little bounce in my step because the fights away from home are tough. Coming home, having all your friends, family, and the city behind me…it’s pretty exciting for me. More than anything I want to give them a good showing. I want to give them a big victory, and show my appreciation for everyone back home.”

Promoter Bobby Hitz expressed pride and excitement at “Hollywood’s” return. “We’re excited to have him back,” said Hitz. “I think it shows a lot of what he’s made of, how he rebounded so quickly, went halfway around the world and fought a tough fight to pick up that title. He didn’t sit and ponder what happened to him in the Jesse Hart fight. He just got back on his horse, went to a different country, a different part of the world, and won a tough fight over there. I’m excited to have him back home. Myself, the Chicago boxing community, Chicago’s boxing fans are eager to see him back in the ring at home.”

Doors to The Venue at Horseshoe Hammond open at 6:00 Wednesday, November 25th, and first bell is at 6:30. Tickets are priced $90 and 40, and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets. Boxing fans must be 21 years and older to attend events at the Horseshoe Hammond.

BOXNATION TO SHOW JACOBS VS QUILLIN WORLD TITLE CLASH LIVE ON DECEMBER 5TH AS RACE FOR MIDDLEWEIGHT TOP SPOT HOTS UP ON ‘THE CHANNEL OF CHAMPIONS’

Daniel Jacobs
LONDON (5 November) – BoxNation will air yet another of the middleweight division’s most intriguing clashes exclusively live when WBA champion Daniel Jacobs puts his world title on the line against the undefeated Peter Quillin on December 5th.

The race to prove who is the undisputed number one in the 160-pound division is set to become a lot clearer by the end of the year, with BoxNation to show every significant matchup exclusively live on ‘The Channel of Champions’.

After having screened knockout king Gennady Golovkin’s demolition job over the brave David Lemieux last month, BoxNation has even more treats in store for fight fans with Miguel Cotto’s WBC clash with Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez live on November 21st and WBO champion Andy Lee’s blockbuster matchup with Billy Joe Saunders on December 19th.

Those two battles will play their part in giving some transparency to the middleweight division, with the inspirational Jacobs and former WBO champion Quillin’s meeting at the Barclays Center in New York clearing the picture up further as we go into 2016.

28-year-old Jacobs, who has only lost once in 31 fights, with a highly impressive 27 knockouts along the way, battled his way back from bone cancer to claim his world title stopping Jarrod Fletcher in the fifth round last August.

The New York native has successfully defended his belt two times since, but against the 32-year-old Quillin he faces a former world champion who is unbeaten in 33 matchups and is aware he will have to be at his best as they battle in Brooklyn.

“There is no doubt this is going to be one of the biggest fights Brooklyn has ever seen,” said Jacobs. “Peter and I go back a long time, but this is business. I’m the champion and he’s the challenger. I’m going to do everything I can to win on December 5th and show the world that I’m the best Brooklyn has to offer.”

“This fight means everything to me. It’s two guys for the battle of Brooklyn,” said Quillin. “We are both going to have great support in the building and this fight will really inspire people. In New York City you never get to see two guys at this level of boxing square off against one another. It means a lot and I’m very excited about this fight.”

With Golovkin having emerged victorious from his fight the next three middleweight matchups, exclusively live on BoxNation, represent a mouth-watering round robin to see who can rightly call themselves the very best at the weight.

Jim McMunn, Managing Director at BoxNation, said: “It is a really exciting time in the middleweight division and we are delighted to be able to bring boxing fans all the action exclusively live on the channel. BoxNation subscribers won’t miss a moment as we deliver the biggest and best matchups to close the year. The Daniel Jacobs and Peter Quillin clash is a welcome addition to a bustling, value-for-money, BoxNation schedule which will have fans on the edge of their seats.”

SMITH: I BEAT FIELDING IN EVERY DEPARTMENT

Callum Smith says he will prove he’s better than Rocky Fielding in every department as they clash for the vacant British Super Middleweight title at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

Victory for ‘Mundo’ would mean all four Smith brothers have become British champions – an astonishing feat that is unlikely to ever be repeated.

Callum – the youngest of the four – has watched Paul claim the Super-Middleweight strap he fights for, Stephen pocket both Featherweight and Super-Featherweight belts and Liam land the Super-Welterweight title, and now he has the chance to complete the most unique of sporting achievements.

Fielding stands in the way of history, and he represents the toughest obstacle that Smith has had to face in his smooth journey to the top so far. Smith and Fielding spent time together in the amateurs but a clash between the pair has always been on the cards – and Smith believes that recent KO wins for Fielding over Noe Gonzalez and Brian Vera have given Fielding a big-hitting reputation that he doesn’t deserve.

“He’s unbeaten so he hasn’t done anything wrong in the pros,” said Smith. “He’s not really boxed anyone of note, I think a lot has been made of the Brian Vera win than was necessary. Vera had lost nine times before then and had lost his last three going into the fight, he basically came out of retirement and he was a career-Middleweight and even at that weight, he couldn’t cut it at the top level. I think if I was to fight him and knock him out, I wouldn’t get the credit that Rocky has got for doing it. He looked good doing it and got the win he needed but I think he made a bit more out of it than he should have. I bring a lot more to the table than Vera and he’s in for a shock.

“I think I beat him in every department to be honest. I think I can beat him in many ways. If he wants to go on the back foot I believe I am the better stand up boxer, I’ve got a better boxing brain and better technically. If it’s an inside fight then I think I am better than him in close, a better body puncher and a better head puncher. He keeps talking about his power, if that’s the only way he thinks he can win then so be it but I think he is reading too much into that. He’s got a short memory too because I’ve KO’d two guys that he couldn’t, so if we’re going off that, then who is to say he’s the puncher in the fight? I think he thinks he has one way of winning but I have many.

“All of a sudden he thinks he’s a massive puncher because he’s KO’d Vera, but the fight before that, Rocky was taken eight rounds by a journeyman that I knocked out in one round, you should be getting guys like that out of there inside the distance. If he wants the fight to be a shootout then fine, I am 100 per cent confident that I win and will do it earlier than if it was a boxing match, but we won’t know how it’s going to go until the first bell.

“The reaction to the announcement showed that it’s a big fight for the city and with Liam winning the World title – the first in Liverpool for a long time – we’re bringing big fights to the city. It’s a great boxing city and the fans deserve to see big fights and this is one of them, and fingers crossed that we can deliver a good fight.”

Smith’s clash with Fielding is part of a massive night in Liverpool as Ricky Burns is on the trail of his old WBO Lightweight World crown and faces Aussie Josh King for the Inter-Continental strap, Scotty Cardle defends his British Lightweight title against local favourite Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd, Prizefighter champion Tom Doran meets Rod Smith in an eliminator for the British Middleweight title, unbeaten Lightweight talent Ohara Davies faces Chris Truman and Team GB star Warren Baister makes his pro debut.

Limited tickets are sale now from the Echo Arena website www.echoarena.com and on 0844 8000 400 – priced £40, £60, £80, £100 and £150.

Tickets for November 7 are available from http://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets/ – StubHub is the official ticket partner and marketplace of Matchroom Boxing and Anthony Joshua MBE.

Another Cape Cod native in Harwich’s Paul Gonsalves will see action on the card in an eight-round light heavyweight fight. Baltimore Boxing Club featured in Under Armour Commercial!

Baltimore, MD (November 5, 2015) – Baltimore Boxing Club and founder Jake Smith have been featured in Under Armour’s new commercial for the Muhammad Ali Collection.

Based out of Baltimore, Under Armour is a global giant for sports clothing and accessories, making a name for themselves in the boxing world during the last few years.

Recently, Under Armour filmed fighters training at the Baltimore Boxing Gym while Smith gave instructions, followed by an intense sparring session. The commercial also features highlights from Ali’s career followed by boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez discussing what made Ali successful before showing one of Canelo’s training sessions.

“Under Armour has been a great supporter of local boxing and my gym in particular,” said Smith. “They’ve done filming here before and sponsored the recent Regional Qualifiers for the Olympic Trials here in Baltimore. Even with all of that, never in a million years did I think that the Baltimore Boxing Club would appear in a commercial featuring the great Muhammad Ali and Saul Alvarez. We appreciate the exposure and hope it creates more recognition for our fighters and the gym.”

Baltimore Boxing’s next card takes place Wednesday, November 25 at Michael’s Eighth Avenue in Glen Burnie, MD.

JAMIE CONLAN: “BUTLER’S A GOOD FIGHTER AND HE’LL STILL BE A GOOD FIGHTER AFTER I’VE BEATEN HIM!”

WBO Inter-Continental Super-fly king Jamie Conlan knows a sizzling performance this weekend will propel him into the big profile showdowns.

This Saturday the unbeaten 29-year-old from Belfast returns to Dublin’s National Stadium, scene of his epic potential Fight of the Year win over Mexican warrior Junior Granados in July, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

Whilst looking to sharpen his tools in an eight rounder with Argentina’s Adrian Dimas Garzon, you sense Ellesmere Port’s former IBF bantam boss Paul Butler – now back at 115lbs – won’t be very far from Conlan’s thoughts.

‘The Butler fight is logical for both of us because there’s not too many quality little guys around. We’re both trying to push on to bigger things, both believe we can beat the other so hopefully it’ll materialise early next year,’ says ‘The Mexican’ who has won 14 straight with eight stoppages since joining the profession in 2009.

‘I’m really excited by the rivalry that’s building and I’d happily go to the mainland to challenge Paul, especially if he was defending a decent belt. A ring’s a ring. That’d really put fire in my belly.

‘Butler’s a really good fighter and he’ll still be a good fighter after I’ve beat him! But I see weaknesses in him and not just when he got stopped in his world title fight.

‘(South Africa’s ex IBF boss Zolani) Tete was simply a level above. It’s in the fights that Butler has won that I noticed he repeatedly gets caught with the same shots. There’s a lot of openings I’ve always believed I could exploit. I possess everything required to defeat him.’

The 5ft 7in crowd pleaser – older brother of recently crowned world amateur champion Michael Conlon – is also keen to hoover up the British 8st 3lb crown.

‘Us little guys need each other to build rivalries that’ll benefit us all, both in terms of profile and financially. My brother beat Kal at the Europeans and they’ve sparred a lot at GB camps. Michael tells me Kal believes he’s a lot stronger than he actually is, and that will prove his downfall. I proved against Granados that nobody can break my heart!’ says Spanish-based Jamie who is coached by Danny Vaughan at the MGM Gym in Marbella.

Already listed sixth by the WBO (whose European belt he has also held), the fast rising Ulsterman is honing on world class a little too quickly and concedes that at his present stage of development, the sanctioning bodies global champion, Japan’s brutal Naoya Inoue, might prove a bridge too far.

‘I think I probably need a bit more international experience before challenging him,’ he admits.

‘Inoue and (WBC flyweight champion) Roman Gonzalez have certainly put the little men back on the map and they’re heading for superstardom. Gonzalez probably beats Naoya if they meet but he’s still fantastic; very heavy handed.

‘But from what I hear, it’s likely he’ll be moving up very soon. It would be brilliant if me and Butler can manoeuvre ourselves to fight for the title if and when Inuoe vacates.’

The Channel Of Champions, BoxNation, will televise the show live and exclusive on Sky 437/HD 490, Virgin 546 and Talk Talk 415. Subscribe at www.boxnation.com Or watch online at Livesport.tv and via iPhone, iPad or Android.

ANDRE WARD FORCED TO WITHDRAW FROM SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21 MIGUEL COTTO VS. CANELO ALVAREZ CO-FEATURE

Andre Ward Post Fight
NEW YORK (November 4, 2015) – Roc Nation Sports regretfully announces that due to an injury sustained while training, Andre Ward will be unable to participate in his previously scheduled Saturday, Nov. 21 bout at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas. A replacement fight for the HBO Pay-Per-View produced and distributed event is currently being worked on.

Ward has been suffering from significant inflammation and constant pain in his right knee that is severely restricting his mobility. He has been advised by his physician to immediately rest and begin rehab on the knee to reduce the inflammation.

“I’m extremely disappointed that I’m missing this opportunity on November 21, but at the same time, I’m encouraged,” said Ward. “Anytime I have had a minor or major setback in my career, by the Grace of God, I’ve come back stronger and this will be no different. I’m looking forward to a big 2016. Thank you to all my fans for your support and patience.”

“Andre’s injury is a huge disappointment not only to him, but all of us involved with this promotion,” said David Itskowitch, COO Boxing of Roc Nation Sports. “We have no doubt that Andre will come back stronger than ever once his knee heals and that he will be a force in the light heavyweight division. We are working diligently to make an intriguing fight that will deliver a level of excitement commensurate with this great event.”

“While we feel terrible for Andre that he has encountered this setback, we have no doubt that Andre will return stronger than ever in 2016,” said James Prince and Josh Dubin, Ward’s management team.

Tickets for ONE: KINGDOM OF KHMER are available at NAGAWORLD®.

Undefeated Hawaiian lightweight standout Lowen Tynanes has impressed in his time so far inside the ONE Cage. One of the most ferocious young lions, Tynanes boasts of world-class wrestling ability paired with absolutely relentless aggression, resulting in a handful of highlight-reel finishes. His next challenge is a tough one, against grappling ace, Rasul Yakhyaev.

Rasul Yakhyaev of Russia is a lightweight star in his homeland where he’s racked up a stellar record of nine wins with only two defeats. He is adept in both striking and mat techniques, and is considered a solid prospect with tremendous potential. With grappling as his fortitude, Yakhyaev makes his ONE Championship debut against none other than Lowen Tynanes.

Japanese MMA wildcard Riku Shibuya won the hearts of fans with his unorthodox style and powerful combinations. In his last outing however, his grappling skills were on full display instead, proving to the world that he is a complete fighter. Now, fans in Phnom Penh will get to see Shibuya once again as he takes on the equally impressive Anatpong Bunrad.

Anatpong Bunrad is currently on a three-fight win streak, defeating the highly regarded Geje Eustaquio in his latest appearance inside the ONE Cage. Bunrad utilizes lightning quick strikes to subdue his opponents, but also has submission skills to round out his overall game. He’ll take on his toughest challenge yet in Japan’s Riku Shibuya.

Since suffering two setbacks early on in his career, Sam Ang Dun has re-emerged as a solid featherweight out of Cambodia, winning the featherweight tournament at ONE: RISE OF THE KINGDOM. With two submission victories also on his record, Sam Ang Dun shows evidence of being a well-rounded fighter in a deep and talented featherweight division. He’ll take on compatriot Chan Rothana next in a rematch of last year’s tournament final.

Chan Rothana is a featherweight mixed martial artist from Cambodia with a 3-1 record. Victorious in his last outing against Ramon Gonzales, Rothana aims to continue his winning ways against countryman Sam Ang Dun. The two have faced each other before, in the featherweight tournament final at ONE: RISE OF THE KINGDOM – a bout which ended in controversy. Now, both fighters will go head-to-head once again in what will surely be an awesome matchup.

Chan Heng debuted for ONE Championship last year, falling short of victory in a bantamweight bout. An all-rounded fighter with a knack for submissions, Heng wants to show fans he has what it takes to be a force in his division. Heng now returns to the ONE Cage seeking redemption, this time against Mario Satya Wirawan.

Mario Satya Wirawan of Bogor, Indonesia is a former university football player who developed a passion for combat just a few years ago. Since then, he’s impressed crowds by showcasing his lightning quick strikes and ferocious combinations. With a newfound love for MMA, Wirawan looks for his first victory in ONE Championship against Chan Heng of Cambodia.

Chan Sam Art is a 27-year old bantamweight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He has a solid 5-2 record with four of his wins coming by submission. The young grappling hotshot will have his hands full against a tremendous striker in his first contest in ONE Championship, against Kun Khmer specialist Meas Meu.

Unbeaten at two wins and no losses, Meas Meu made his ONE Championship debut a memorable one, submitting countryman Chan Heng via Rear-Naked Choke. Meu’s victory was impressive to say the least, and has earned him another stint inside the ONE Cage, this time against Chan Sam Art.

Local mixed martial arts warrioress Tharoth Sam is no stranger to adversity inside the ONE Cage. Sam has a notable 2-1 record, with both of her victories coming impressively by technical submission. With lightning quick striking also embedded in her very core, Sam looks to show fans in attendance that she’s the real deal and can achieve much in this sport. Sam gets her chance to do just that against Jeet Toshi.

Jeet Toshi of Delhi, India is one of the most experienced female atomweights on the ONE Championship roster. A rose among a male-dominated sport in her homeland, Toshi is equipped with a complete skillset that consists of impeccable striking and hard-nosed grappling. Toshi will look to make her return to the ONE Cage a successful one against Tharoth Sam of Cambodia.

Two other female Cambodian athletes, Eh Ya Nut and Vy Srey Chai will also be facing each other in the ONE Championship cage. This will be Vy Srey Chai’s second ONE Championship fight after her first lost to Tharoth Sam September last year in ONE: RISE OF THE KINGDOM while Eh Ya Nut will be making her debut.

PROVODNIKOV – RODRIGUEZ PRESS CONFERENCE

Ruslan_Rodriguez Presser
Monte Carlo, Nov 4 – Ruslan Provodnikov has been promised another world championship fight within six months, if he gets through Saturday night’s fight against Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez in Monte Carlo.

This was the pledge of US promoter Art Pelullo, who warned that the Russian junior-welterweight puncher cannot think beyond this weekend’s assignment.

Pelullo was speaking at the media conference of the Golden Gloves “Night of Champions” tournament hosted at the world-famous Café de Paris in the shadow of the Monte Carlo Casino on Wednesday evening.

“HBO and Showtime want him,” said Pelullo. “Ruslan is one of the premier fighters in the world. He’s a murderous puncher and never been down once as an amateur or pro. I’ve had the privilege of promoting him his entire career. He destroys people and is one of the highest rated fighters on US television. He never does less than 1,5-million viewers. He’s the Siberian Rocky; just a great fighter.”

Pelullo is never short of a word or three, which is just as well because Provodnikov kept his pronouncements short and sweet, saying only “I will be world champion again”.

Rodriguez, 23, spoke via his manager-trainer Carlos Espinosa, “In this business, everyone knows who Ruslan Provodnikov is. No-one knows the Mexican. But Jesus will be a big surprise, he is a strong man.”

Pelullo was impressed by the courage of the unbeaten Mexican to fight Provodnikov, particularly as so many better-regarded fighters wanted nothing to do with him.

“This kid wants to beat Ruslan; he’s embraced his chance. He sees the opportunity and he’s coming to win, not to just put on a good showing. He’s young and hungry and that makes him dangerous.”

Pelullo praised the contribution of new trainer Joel Diaz, promising a new dimension to Provodnikov’s fighting style on Saturday.

Lead promoter Rodney Berman, who will be staging his seventh tournament in the principality, predicted a great event with Ricky Hatton protégé Zhanat Zhakiyanov threatening to steal the show. Top-rated Russian David Avanesyan also features, as do cruiserweight contender Youri Kalenga and a host of other overseas contenders.

ROMULO KOASICHA is presented SATURDAY, NOV. 7 at 9:30 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT) from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, exclusively on HBO. The HBO Sports team will be ringside to call all the action, which will be available in HDTV, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.

Other HBO playdates: Nov. 8 (9:30 a.m.) and 9 (11:45 p.m.)

HBO2 playdate: Nov. 10 (11:00 p.m.)

Timothy Bradley Jr. (32-1-1, 12 KOs), from Palm Springs, Cal., takes on hard-hitting Brandon Rios (33-2-1, 23 KOs) of Oxnard, Cal., in a scheduled 12-round welterweight championship contest. One of the sport’s most accomplished pros, Bradley, 32, has earned acclaim for his willingness to take on any challenge. His sterling record includes two Manny Pacquiao fights and notable wars with Juan Manuel Marquez and Ruslan Provodnikov. Bradley began his 2015 season with a victory over Jessie Vargas in June, when he claimed a 147-pound title belt. He returns to Las Vegas with veteran Teddy Atlas as his new trainer.

Brandon Rios, 29, trains with Robert Garcia in the boxing hotbed of Oxnard, Cal., and looks to secure a second world title in as many weight divisions. He became one of the top attractions in the 140-pound weight class by brawling and slugging his way to signature wins, including two over archrival Mike Alvarado. The contrasting styles of Bradley and Rios have experts and fans anticipating an all-action affair.

Opening the telecast, world featherweight titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko (4-1, 2 KOs) of Odessa, Ukraine, meets challenger Romulo Koasicha (25-4, 14 KOs) of San Luis Potosi, Mexico in a 12-round, 126-pound clash. Koasicha, 24, has a huge advantage in professional experience, but Lomachenko, 27, is widely regarded as one of the top amateur boxers ever, having captured gold medals in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Although he has had only five pro bouts, Lomachenko should prove a fearless competitor.

Murray training with rugby rivals Wigan Warriors to prepare for Abraham clash

Martin Murray
Martin Murray (32-2-1, 15 KOs) is leaving nothing to chance in preparation for his WBO World Super Middleweight title challenge against Arthur Abraham (43-4, 29 KOs) on November 21 at the TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany.

To ensure he is in peak physical condition, the 33 year-old rugby fanatic has set aside his loyalty to local team St. Helens to join bitter rivals Wigan Warriors for a series of strength and conditioning sessions.

‘’My strength and conditioning coach Mark Bitcon works with the Wigan Warriors so I’ve been going over there a couple of times a week and to do a session with them,’’ reveals Murray. ‘’The guys know I’m a big St. Helens fans so obviously there is a bit of banter, but despite the rivalry, the coaching staff and everybody involved with the club are more than happy to help.’’

Ahead of his fourth World title tilt, the former British and Commonwealth Champion believes these grueling sessions could prove decisive in his quest to wrestle the WBO crown from ‘King’ Arthur.

‘’I’ve had a few different strength and conditioning coaches since I started my career, but the work I’m doing now with Mark and the Warriors is by far the best,’’ says Murray. ‘’I’m getting some great work, and with his help, I’ll be ready to take the title from Arthur!’’

On hearing of his opponent’s new training regime, the champion’s only concern is that the British boxer comes through these sessions unscathed. ‘’I know rugby is a very physical game so I hope Martin doesn’t pick up any injuries as I don’t want him to have any excuses when I beat him on November 21,’’ said Abraham.

The WBO World Super Middleweight Championship fight between Arthur Abraham and Martin Murray will be broadcast live on Sat.1 in Germany and Sky Sports in the UK. Tickets are available online via tickethall.de and eventim.de.

JOEL DIAZ PROMISES TO MAKE PROVODNIKOV CHAMP AGAIN

ruslan Diaz
Monte Carlo, Nov 4 – There was a moment, a few weeks ago, when trainer Joel Diaz knew he had made the right move in agreeing to coach former junior-welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov.

The likeable Russian, who knows only a smattering of English, raised his arms in the gym and bellowed, “I am champion! I am champion!”

Diaz called him over. “Ruslan, I promise I will make you champion again – if you listen.”

“Coach,” said Provodnikov, “I will listen. I will sleep on the floor of the gym if I have to. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

Boxer and trainer are now in Monte Carlo preparing to fight unbeaten Mexican Jesus Alvarez Rodriguez, who is officially 13-0, but claims to be 20-0, on the Golden Gloves tournament headliner on Saturday.

Diaz explained that the boxer had been anxious and frustrated that a number of big fights had been waylaid, but instantly switched into fight mode when promoters Rodney Berman and Art Pelullo did a deal.

Said Diaz: “His motivation shot up. We had a great camp. I was concerned that Ruslan was leaving Los Angeles for Indio, a small town. I wasn’t sure he would like it. But by week two he was smiling. He said he felt at home and really opened up.”

Diaz wasn’t tempted to reconstruct Provodnikov, who has built a huge fan base on account of his rugged, come-forward style. He took the view that the Russian had already built a career. He didn’t want to change him; he wanted to polish him and make him better.

“He gets hit a lot, so I focus more on defence . . . head movement and some other tricks of the trade so he don’t get hit so much. He wants to go for the kill, but blocks himself. It’s hard for him to do offence-defence. I’m teaching him to use offence as defence.

“I’m not changing his style. We’re working on making opponents miss, and counter-punching. He needs to put together more combinations and improve his workrate. I’m also working on making him a devastating body-puncher. He’s reacted well; he’s so good to work with.”

Although there are obvious language issues, Diaz says instinct has taken over. He demonstrates what he wants and tries to explain as best he can. Typically, Provodnikov shows his smarts by absorbing these lessons and demonstrating them in sparring.

“I’m excited,” says Diaz. “It makes my job easier. I was nervous after the first week and wondered if he liked my work. I know he does because he’s a happy fighter and happy fighters always perform better.”

He likens his newest pupil to Julio Cesar Chavez sr, chiefly in their unstoppable styles, although Chavez was a master defence-wise. With more work, Diaz expects Provodnikov will improve in this area in the months to come.

Diaz has experienced some great nights working with a range of top fighters, among them Tom Bradley, Omar Figueroa, his brothers (Antonio and Julio), Felix Diaz and Diego De La Hoya, but one of his best career highlights was more prosaic.

Last year he orchestrated a dynamic performance from Juan Martinez, a warhorse with a 19-15 record, over hot favourite Alejandro Perez.

“You take a guy like Ruslan or Tim Bradley and the highest percentage of an outcome is the win. Anything can happen, but you’re at least 75 percent sure of the win. But when your guy is just the ‘opponent’ and he wins, that’s special.”

At the age of 42 and well entrenched a top trainer, Diaz says he couldn’t be happier. He trains champions and prospects alike, thrilling to the many rhythms of the fight game.

On Saturday, he expects to walk out as a winner. It’s what drives him.

TEAM GB STAR BAISTER TO MAKE PRO DEBUT ON SATURDAY

Warren Baister says he wants to get into title fights as soon as possible as he makes his pro debut at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

Baister was part of the England team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in the Heavyweight division, but was edged out by eventual gold medal winner Samir El-Mais in the quarter-finals.

The Sunderland man could have held on to try to reach the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016, but instead chose to attack the paid ranks at Cruiserweight and will split his training between his hometown and the impressive set up at the MGM Marbella gym in Spain.

“I was the English and British number one for a few years so felt like the right time for me to turn pro,” said Baister. “I’m confident my style will suit the pro ranks. I can’t wait to get going.

“I enjoyed my time on Team GB but towards the end it was getting a bit monotonous. I’ve seen it all and done it all and to be honest it’s not a nice time to go through in the build-up to a major tournament. It’s quite stressful and really my heart wasn’t in it enough to go through all the training camps, competitions and build-ups anymore.

“I’ve trained out in Marbella at the MGM gym in stages which is the best in the world, but I’m mainly based in the UK close to home.

“I’ll be doing camps in Spain but I won’t be moving out there. I am going to stay in Peterlee, working with Dave Binns and training with Glenn Foot.

“The beauty of being part of the MGM team is at any time they can fly me out there at short notice for training camps, so I’ve got the best of both worlds really.

“I’m going to be boxing at Cruiserweight and I feel the division is one that doesn’t get that much attention and is overlooked. It’s screaming out for someone to come and put the division in Lights – in time I feel confident I can attract some public interest to the division.

“I haven’t had the chance to spar any top Cruiserweight pro’s yet but I’ve been sparring some of the GB squad and they have some real talented fellas there.

“Sunderland and the North West in particular need a big boxing talent to bring the city into the mainstream. Bradley Saunders is currently out with a hand injury but I feel once I get some momentum – people will jump on-board. Boxing has huge potential up here.

“I’d like to get seven fights under my belt within the first 12 months then after that start focusing on some titles.”

Baister’s pro bow is part of a massive night of boxing on Merseyside as unbeaten Liverpool Super Middleweights Callum Smith and Rocky Fielding clash for the vacant British title.

Ricky Burns is on the trail of his old WBO Lightweight World crown and faces Aussie Josh King for the Inter-Continental strap, Scotty Cardle defends his British Lightweight title against local favourite Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd, Prizefighter champion Tom Doran meets Rod Smith in an eliminator for the British Middleweight title and unbeaten Lightweight talent Ohara Davies faces Chris Truman.

Limited tickets are sale now from the Echo Arena website www.echoarena.com and on 0844 8000 400 – priced £40, £60, £80, £100 and £150.

ESPN Films’ 30 for 30 Volume III Continues on November 10 with “Chasing Tyson”

The next documentary from ESPN Films’ Peabody and Emmy Award-winning 30 for 30 series will be “Chasing Tyson,” premiering on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN. Directed by the Oscar- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Steven Cantor, the film examines why so many years went by before Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson finally met in the ring.

Holyfield was a journeyman boxer who had earned respect with victorious bouts against greats like Buster Douglas, Riddick Bowe and George Foreman. He won the heavyweight championship belt four times. But it was Mike Tyson’s outsized personality and ferocious punches that cast a commanding shadow over boxing in the 1980s and ’90s. Even when “Iron Mike” was in prison, the heavyweight division belonged to him. Meanwhile, Holyfield endured years of delay while waiting for the opportunity to take down Tyson.

Though Holyfield dramatically lost and recaptured the heavyweight crown, and then lost it again, even he understood that his career would ultimately be defined by how he stood up to Tyson – if he ever got his chance. By the time of their much-hyped and oft-delayed heavyweight title bout in November of 1996, Holyfield was 34 years old and considered past his prime. Four years younger, Tyson was heavily favored to be standing over another meek and easily vanquished opponent at the end. Instead, the world got not one, but two of the sport’s most memorable fights – for very different reasons.

Kayode and Olanrewaju: Pair of Nigerian Childhood Friends on Same Card, Both in Biggest Fights of Their Lives Tonight in Russia

A pair of childhood friends and now promotional stablemates will both be in the fights of their lives tonight, in two of the marquee matchups of the stacked Andrey Ryabinsky/World Boxing Promotions boxing show at the Basket-Hall Arena in Kazan, Russia.

Lateef “Power” Kayode (21-0, 16 KOs) will face WBA World Cruiserweight Champion Denis Lebedev (27-2, 20 KOs) in the 12-round co-main event and fellow Nigerian Larry “God’s Power” Durodola (21-2, 19 KOs) will face Russian KO artist Dmitry “The Russian Hammer” Kudryashov (18-0, 18 KOs) over 12 rounds for the WBC Silver Cruiserweight Championship.

Kayode and Olanrewaju have known each other since childhood in Lagos, Nigeria, and as amateur boxers, they were on several national teams together.

“Try to figure out the odds of two Nigerians growing up together, both ending up with me as their American promoter and both in the most important fights of the careers on the same show in Russia,” said Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions. “It makes you think this was meant to be for all these variables to come together like this to make this happen.”

Cohen, who is in Russia with his fighters, says he thinks these incredible coincidences are a good sign of big things to come.

“It’s got to be fate that these guys are here and I expect them both to come out victorious,” Cohen continued. “For Lateef, it’ll be his first world championship after a long and distinguished career and for Larry, a victory over this guy who has KO’d all his opponents before him will establish him as the WBC’s top rated contender. It’s going to be a very special night.”

Also scheduled for war are top European heavyweights Alexander Povetkin and Mariusz Wach, as well as cruiserweight contenders Rakhim Chakhkiev (23-1, 18 KOs) and Ola Afolabi (21-2-2, 10 KOs), who will do battle for the IBO Championship.

It’s a sensational night for boxing tonight and it’s looking like it’ll be one of the more special nights in my company’s history as well. I’m very excited to get this thing started,” said Cohen.

CROLLA: SMITH IS A LEVEL ABOVE FIELDING

Anthony Crolla has backed gym-mate Callum Smith to stop Rocky Fielding late when the pair clash for the vacant British Super Middleweight title at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday night, live on Sky Sports.

Crolla has been side-by-side with Smith through the Liverpool man’s camp as he prepares for his rematch with WBA World Lightweight champion Darleys Perez in Manchester on November 21, and ‘Million Dollar’ says while Fielding has improved, Smith is a World champion in the making.

“I believe it comes down to Callum being a level above him,” said Crolla. “That is what I feel. Some people might disagree with that but I feel that come Saturday that is what will show. I believe that Callum is destined to be a World champion, I really do. I have seen in the gym and I look at him and I tell young amateur kids if there is one person to watch it is Callum Smith because of how technically correct he is. I believe Callum is a level above Rocky and that is without meaning any disrespect to Rocky. I think Rocky is improving all the time and he is a good fighter and he will come back after this to win titles, but I believe on Saturday, Callum will show his a level above Rocky.

“I think Rocky has gone under the radar a little bit and he has learned his trade well. There is no doubting, and no denying, that he has improved fight-by-fight. I think Rocky is a very good fighter but I believe, and no disrespect to Rocky in any way.

“I think there are a few major factors in how the fight will go. One is who establishes the jab better and first; that will play a huge part in it. Another factor will be who does the 12-round distance better. That is another thing I feel that Callum has in his favour because he has done it against better opponents. I know they will both be in the best shape of their career but I do believe that little bit of experience for Callum, having been in with the better lads, will also come into play.

“Is very tricky to call if the fight will go to distance. A lot of that will depend on how Rocky approaches the fight. If Rocky starts exchanging then probably not but if it becomes a bit of a chess match then I think Callum will either get him late or on points.”

Smith’s clash with Fielding tops a massive night of boxing on Merseyside with the coveted Lord Lonsdale belt taking centre stage as Scotty Cardle defends his Lightweight title against local favourite Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd.

Ricky Burns can take a huge step towards reclaiming his WBO World Lightweight title when he faces Josh King for the Inter-Continental Lightweight title, Prizefighter champion Tom Doran meets Rod Smith in an eliminator for the British Middleweight title and unbeaten Lightweight talent Ohara Davies faces Chris Truman.

Limited tickets are sale now from the Echo Arena website www.echoarena.com and on 0844 8000 400 – priced £40, £60, £80, £100 and £150.

JAMIE COX: ‘ALBERT’S WON TEN BACK-TO-BACK. NOW HE’LL BE GOING OUT ON HIS BACK!’

White hot Swindon super-middle Jamie Cox knows that another sizzling stoppage win on the undercard of the ‘Second Coming’ bill at Dublin’s National Stadium on Saturday, could vault him straight into a world title crack early next year.

The unbeaten 29 year old southpaw stunner defends his WBO European crown against 22 year old Hungarian Ferenc Albert in a scheduled 10 rounder but expects to be in the shower much earlier.

‘‘I’ve watched the kid on tape for a few rounds. He’s won ten back-to-back now he’ll be going out on his back. I need to demolish him to get to where I want to be,’ says joltin’ Jamie who is coached by John Costello and managed by Lee Beard.

‘I always prepare to do all the (scheduled) rounds. I always spar between eight and 12. But when it ends early on fight night, I ain’t complaining. Earlier the better. You never want to be taking extra punches for fun at this level.’

After bagging a Commonwealth Games gold medal down at light-welter in 2006, then a Commonwealth professional title at light-middle in 2011, the 5ft 11in Wiltshire wonder re-surfaced this year at a beefy 12 stone. Clearly, it was at no cost to his fabled punch power as both comeback opponents were left writhing on the carpet, long before the first round had concluded.

‘I’ll definitely not be found wanting for strength at the new weight,’ claims Cox who is undefeated in 19, with 11 early endings.

‘I’ve sparred with James DeGale and I felt more than strong enough. From the age of 15 to 20, I was doing ground work on building sites six or seven days a week.

‘Lately, I’ve been working with a good level British cruiserweight, six to eight rounds at a time and again, no problems. I’ve always had quick hands and my speed is more telling against these heavier guys. Likewise, the super-middles are a bit slower than the lighter fighters. You see the shots earlier.’

A brutal body puncher, blessed with a recently re-constructed wrecking ball back hand, Cox is spreading fear and menace through his new division, just as he did when romping to the senior ABA title as a teenager in 2005-6.

‘I don’t want points. Boxing’s the entertainment business and fans come to see knockouts. I want them to witness something special after they’ve shelled out their hard earned money,’ says the qualified fitness instructor who fought just once between September 2011 and February 2015 due to the worst hand injuries promoter Frank Warren claimed he’d ever witnessed.

‘I work exceptionally hard in the gym to get the job done. The gym is where you do the studying to pass the exam on fight night. I eat right, sleep right, train right and all of that gives you confidence that you’ll perform right when it matters.’

‘I’m looking a world title fight early next year. When I get the job done this weekend it’ll take me to 20-0. I’ve been in the game long enough and now I’m now world ranked. I just need the opportunity. When it arrives, I won’t let it slip. We’ve worked way too hard to let this slip,’

Already rated as number eight contender to Arthur Abraham in the WBO listings, the Wiltshire wonder is happy to chance his arm against any of the reigning global belt holders. He is more than happy to duke it out against the rich band of domestic contenders to cement his worth.

‘I’ll basically fight whoever I have to, to get a world title shot; the winner of Smith-Fielding, Buglioni, Paul Smith, (Martin) Murray, Groves, DeGale, any of them. I’d knock any 12stone man in the UK spark out. I’m not cocky but over the last few years I’ve really got my head down. A world title is all that’s in our mindset,’ says Cox, who often speaks in the plural in deference to his back-up team.

‘I don’t care if it’s DeGale (IBF), Badou Jack (WBC) or Fedor Chudinov (WBA). If we get a chance, we’ll be world champion because we work harder than any of them.

How? By knocking them out! From now on that’s my mindset for every fight. I’ve got huge natural power, and I’ll fashion the openings through my boxing skills, by being scientific.’

‘Frank works closely with Wlad (Hrunov) and Fedor’s fought here before so that should be do-able. I’d like it made as soon as possible.

‘The way I’m performing in sparring, I know I’d knock Chudinov out. He’s not hard to find. He fights like me but I’ve got better tools. Frank Buglioni gave a decent account of himself when he challenged Fedor but was gun shy early. I won’t be.

‘I’ve been at the Mayweather gym in Vegas so I know Badou Jack’s level and I know he definitely gets wiped out.’

Irish fans can certainly expect their fix of fireworks on Bonfire weekend.

‘‘I’m pretty lucky. I’m half Welsh, half Irish. I’ve a lot of family in Donegal so I’ll have good support,’ concludes Cox.

‘I just want to keep the buzz going. Above all, I want to give a pleasing display to those who pay to come and support me. That’s what I value most.’

BUTLER CONTINUES COMEBACK AGAINST FORMER EUROPEAN CHAMP OLTEANU FOR WBO EUROPEAN CROWN

Ellesmere Port ace Paul Butler will face Former Two-Time European Champion Silvio Olteanu for the Vacant WBO European Super-Flyweight title on Saturday 19th December at the Manchester Arena in a crucial must-win fight as he lines up a world title shot next year.

Former World Champion Butler features on Frank Warren’s title-packed X-Mas show headlined by the crunch fight between WBO World Middleweight Champion Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders, and Liam Smith’s first WBO World Super-Welterweight title defence.

Butler, who previously held the IBF World Bantamweight title, is still focussed on winning a second world title in a lighter weight division even though he came up short in his attempt at IBF king Zolani Tete in March when he was stopped in eight rounds.

Since then, he’s smashed his way back with a win over Gustavo Molina in five rounds in July and then destroyed Hector Rolando Gusman last month with one devastating left to the body in the first round.

A potential blockbuster against Irish rival Jamie Conlan, the current WBO Intercontinental Champion, could happen next year and Butler aims to despatch of Olteanu to remain on track.

“This is my first title fight since the Tete fight and I’m desperate to get a belt around my waist again,” Said Butler.

“I’ve proved that the Tete fight wouldn’t dent my confidence and I believe I’ve improved and come back stronger from it as you’ve seen in my last two fights,”

“Now I’m in facing a tougher test against a good former European Champion in Olteanu who will make me raise my game and maybe give me a harder test. He’s never been stopped and I’m looking to be the first,”

“He can bring what he likes to the ring, I’m focussed on what I’ve got to do and that’s to destroy him and get him out of the way so I can move on in my career and get that second world title,”

“That could lead to Conlan next year which is a belter of a fight that I’m confident I’d win, but right now I’m dealing with Olteanu and getting the important win.”

Olteanu, who is Hungarian born and fights out of Madrid, has held the European Super-Flyweight title twice and has lost on points in a WBA World title challenge in 2010. He’s never been stopped in 24 fights and fighting in England won’t faze him as he’s fought around the world.

“I will show this little kid what is to fight with a man. He has been protected fighting in his backyard all his career,” Stormed Olteanu.

If you want to became the best, you have to visit the home of your opponent. I have fought several times in France, Japan, Mexico, Italy only losing for the World title in Japan by split decision and in Mexico by majority decision twice and everybody knows what that means,”

“I have fought five times for the European title losing only once on points, so I have proved already that I am the best in Europe”

“I have never ever been stopped and I have fought already ten titles bouts, so lets see if Butler is able to beat me.”
