The third edition of ESPN’s Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN presented by Corona Extra (PBC on ESPN) series—headlined by Leo Santa Cruz’s majority decision win over Abner Mares—on Saturday, Aug. 29, delivered the largest boxing audience on ESPN since February 1998 (02/22/98 Mark Johnson vs. Arthur Johnson).

The telecast was seen by an average of 1,217,000 viewers (P2+)—up 30 percent from the average of the previous two PBC telecasts on ESPN. The telecast peaked from 12:00-12:15am with 1,641,000 viewers (P2+) according to Nielsen.

ESPN’s Spanish-language telecast of the event on ESPN Deportes averaged a 1.3 Hispanic HH US Rtg and 355,000 Hispanic viewers—making it the highest-rated and most-watched boxing telecast to ever air on ESPN Deportes. The telecast peaked from 11:15-11:30 p.m. with 453,000 viewers.

ESPN Classic will reair the fight tonight at 7 p.m. ET as an Instant Classic. In addition, ESPN Deportes will re-air the entire card on Saturday, September 5, at 7 p.m.

“I think it’s an amazing event that happens once in a lifetime,” said Klitschko following his workout at the Lucky Street Boxing Gym in Hollywood, Florida. “I’m not sure if an event like this has ever taken place in history of boxing when all of the heavyweights, former heavyweight champions, coming together. It’s something amazing.

“I’ve seen a picture of Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton together and it was an amazing shot – it was a great shot for history. I think this Friday and Saturday is going to be really exciting. It is going to be a time where everybody is going to get a piece of memory, and that is the reality. It is a tough event to put together, I am happy that it is taking place, where all of the heavyweights can come together, have conversations and ask questions – and get some answers.

“It shows that we are all one community – one family, actually. There are some times in history where we didn’t like each other because we were fighting in the ring, but in a way we respect and love each other. It is definitely something that is going to be an historic moment.”

TACOMA, Wash. – Justin “Ruckus” Harrington will make his first defense of the Super Fight League America lightweight title on Saturday, Sept. 26 when he faces Woo “Why So Serious” Johnson in the main event of CageSport MMA presents SFL 44 at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma.

Harrington (7-2) is a two-time CageSport champion and opened his professional career with six consecutive victories with every triumph coming via stoppage. A resident of Enumclaw, Wash., Harrington captured the vacant SFL lightweight crown on July 12 with a victory over Harrison Bevens, winning by second-round TKO.

Johnson (5-1), of Spanaway, Wash., earned his title shot with an equally impressive victory on the SFL 41 undercard, defeating Chris Aparicio via submission (rear naked choke) at the 4:40 mark of the third round.

“This really is a bout worthy of main event status. It was hard to decide whose victory at SFL 41 was more exciting,” said promoter Brian Halquist. “They both tore the house down last time. Each has a feverish fan base locally. It should all add up to an excellent title fight.”

Tickets are available through the EQQ box office and all Ticket Master Outlets. Doors open at 6 p.m. with preliminary bouts starting at 7 p.m.

In the co-main event bout Alfonso “Big Smooth” Gonzales (7-1) will square off against Thomas “Tiny” Hoeper (1-1) for the vacant SFL America light heavyweight title.

Gonzales made his pro debut at CageSport 23 with a quick first-round TKO win over Steve Simpson and is a perfect 4-0 all-time at the Emerald Queen Casino, while the 6-foot-7 Hoeper is coming off a victory over Nate Cook at SFL 36.

Highlighting the undercard will be two-time CageSport champion and local favorite Drew “The Eternal Fire” Brokenshire (11-2). Brokenshire, a native of Tacoma, faces Daniel “Agent Orange” Swain (11-5-1) in a featherweight contest which should see the victor emerge as a top contender for the SFL America title.

Sao Paulo – Mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, known by fans worldwide as “Minotauro,” officially announced his retirement from UFC® competition today. While his fighting days may have come to a close, his work in the MMA community is only beginning as he will serve as an Athlete Relations Ambassador for UFC® Brazil.

As part of his new contract, Nogueira will provide services for a number of initiatives in the Brazil region. Upon PRIDE being purchased by an affiliate of Zuffa, LLC in 2007, Nogueira continued his dominance by defeating Tim Sylvia for the interim UFC® heavyweight title. DORADO, PR (Sept. 1, 2015) – WBO Junior Lightweight Champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-2-2, 17 KOs) and WBO/IBF featherweight world-ranked Jonathan “Polvo” Oquendo (25-4, 16 KOs) worked out for the press in Puerto Rico on Monday, Aug, 31 in advance of their SHOWTIME PPV® fights against former world champions Orlando “Siri” Salido (42-13-2, 29 KOs) and Jhonny Gonzalez (58-9, 49 KOs), respectively. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas highlighted by HIGH STAKES: Floyd Mayweather vs. Andre Berto.

For the first time ever, “Bellator MMA: Dynamite 1” will feature both a Bellator MMA cage and a Glory kickboxing ring on one arena floor at the same time. Las Vegas – Competitors from 11 different countries have been cast for the next season of The Ultimate Fighter® led by UFC® interim featherweight champion and proud Irishman Conor McGregor, opposite former WEC® featherweight champion Urijah “The California Kid” Faber. The premiere episode, debuting on September 9 at 10 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, will showcase 32 fighters competing for one of 16 spots featuring eight Europeans and eight Americans and the opportunity to be coached by two of the sport’s best athletes.

The Europeans will be led by Dublin’s own McGregor (18-2, fighting out of Dublin, Ireland), while the American squad will be under the tutelage of Faber (32-8, fighting out of Sacramento, Calif.). CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (August 31, 2015) – After a razor thin decision in their first fight, top bantamweights Jamie McDonnell (26-2-1, 12 KOs) and Tomoki “El Mexicanito” Kameda (31-1, 19 KOs) will square-off again on the Sunday, September 6 edition of Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on CBS live from the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The 12-round bantamweight showdown will kick-off the telecast beginning at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT and will be headlined by a super middleweight battle between Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell (27-1-1, 22 KOs) and Marco Antonio “El Veneno” Rubio (59-7-1, 51 KOs).

In the first fight between the United Kingdom’s McDonnell and Japan’s Kameda, which originally aired on the May 9 installment of PBC on CBS, McDonnell narrowly took the decision 114-113 on all three judges’ scorecards.

In total, the two men combined to throw over 1,000 punches in their first fight, including nearly 800 power punches over the 12 rounds. On September 6, McDonnell and Kameda will go toe-to-toe once again with bantamweight supremacy on the line.

“I have a great engine and I always come on strong in the back end of the fight,” said McDonnell. “I think from round six on it was my fight. I started too slowly in the first fight but I worked hard and got the win.”

“I definitely think I won the first fight,” said Kameda. “I landed the much harder punches and built up enough of an early lead, but the judges saw what they saw. It was a close fight and I know I can change the outcome this time.”

One of the key moments in the fight (and one that some thought could have swung the fight in Kameda’s favor) was his third round knockdown of McDonnell via a lightning-fast right hand.

“I can remember being on the floor and I didn’t know how I got there,” said McDonnell. “His speed and power is there and I went down. It proves that not everyone is invincible and if you get caught, you are going to go down. We’ve put some work in to counter that power and hopefully that will show on fight night.”

Both men are deep into training camp now and have been working on numerous adjustments to keep their opponents guessing coming into the rematch. For Kameda these changes involved a change in coach as he enters his first fight with new trainer Ismael Salas.

“I have a completely different team now with Ismael Salas and Angel Heredia and ‘Stich’ Duran as cut man,” said Kameda. “I feel much better going into this fight with better sparring and preparation and it will show in the fight. Salas has a great game plan and I can’t wait to perform it.

“McDonnell is tall, so getting inside his jab took some extra work. He’s a good veteran but I will show I’m the superior fighter once again.”

“We knew he was going to be fast, he’s the fastest I have ever faced,” said McDonnell. “I got tagged with a right hand but in the rematch I know what to expect now. I’ve sparred against a lad that throws his right hand like Kameda does so I know how to keep out of range for that.

“I feel I am hitting harder. I’ve been working on my power in the gym and I feel it’s going to pay off. I’m always in great shape and I’ve been flying in the gym. I am really looking forward to this one.”

For McDonnell, it was a successful U.S. debut as he returned home to the United Kingdom victorious. McDonnell has already arrived in Texas as he did before their first fight in order to acclimate to the time and climate changes.

“I loved being in America for the last fight and doing the afternoon show,” said McDonnell. “We’ve been to Texas before now and it was a great time so I am happy to be back here and I know what to expect. We’ve brought Ryan Burnett (10-0, 8 KOs) out here to Corpus Christi to spar for the full fortnight, plus my wife, daughter and brother Gavin are all out here with me again.”

The two fighters will look to prove their supremacy once again and entertain boxing fans around the world on September 6.

“I think it will be a fast paced fight,” said McDonnell. “I started too slowly last time and I don’t want that to happen again. I believe I will stop him late.. I took him into the trenches last time but I didn’t put it on him enough. I think I will make a big statement.”

“I will look to prepare shots to score points and be victorious,” said Kameda. “If the knockout comes, I will take it. Most important is to get the victory and we will do what we have to do to win. I will not let him back in the fight later on. This time I will start strong and finish him and not let off the gas until I am champion again.”

(September 1, 2015) – Brandon “Bull” Halsey (9-0) will compete for the second time in 2015 when he meets Rafael Carvalho (11-1) for the Bellator MMA middleweight title in the co-main event of “Bellator 144: Galvao vs. Dantas 2” at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on October 23.

The contest will serve as the co-main event of “Bellator 144: Galvao vs. Dantas 2,” which airs live on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, while preliminary bouts will stream on Spike.com at 7 p.m. ET.

The main event of “Bellator 144: Galvao vs. Dantas 2” features a bantamweight title fight between Marcos Galvao (17-6-1) and Eduardo Dantas, (17-4). Ruiz is the most experienced foe De La Hoya has ever faced, and he plans on being the first one to hand him a loss on Sept. 4.

Two-time Brazilian Olympic team member Everton Lopes was one of his country’s most decorated amateur fighters of all-time, and now he wants to bring a world title back home to Salvador, Brazil. On Feb. 27, the talented 26-year-old southpaw made his professional debut in a super lightweight bout against Evan Woolsey winning by unanimous decision. He shined at his debut at LA FIGHT CLUB defeating Robert Alexander Seyam on April 2 and triumphed over Marcelo Ezequiel Mesa in his first professional bout in his home country of Brazil on June 6. On September 4, Lopes will make his second appearance at LA FIGHT CLUB, eager to clench another win.

Erick “TJ” Orozco of Gudalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, will be looking for a victory when he faces Los Angeles’ favorite Christian Gonzalez on Sept. 4. After fighting in March against Ricardo Diaz and Samuel Garibaldi in August and coming up short after and undefeated streak from 2013-2014, Orozco will be hungry for victory in his third fight of 2015.

Born in Garden City, Kansas, and raised in Los Angeles, Rafael “El Alikin” Gramajo started boxing at the age of 11 in the same gym that saw the likes of Brandon Rios and Victor Ortiz. After an ambitious amateur career where he participated in around 100 fights, Gramajo decided to take his career to the next level, making his professional debut against Jimmy Small in April 2012. In 2014, Gramajo moved to Los Angeles to train out of the famed Westside Boxing Club under the Saucedo Brothers. Boasting two impressive wins at Fantasy Springs in 2015, Gramajo made his LA FIGHT CLUB debut on June 4 with an impressive win over Pablo Cupul. Gramajo will return to the Belasco Theater looking to impress the crowd once again as making his second appearance at the popular series.

Hailing from Monterey, Mexico, Andres “Black Power” Balderas is looking to make an impression in his second fight of 2015. Most recently the fighter faced Luis Rosario in June in his U.S. professional debut. Chasing the ‘American Dream’ Balderas is ready to prove he has what it takes to win in the sweet science when he faces the tough Rafael Gramajo on Sept. 4.

Unbeaten Ivan “Striker” Delgado will make his third LA FIGHT CLUB appearance in a six-round super featherweight bout against an opponent to-be-named. In the premiere event of LA FIGHT CLUB on March 6, Delgado made a standout appearance dominating Rocco Espinoza in all four-rounds, releasing relentless powerful punches to win the bout by unanimous decision. ‘’Yes, definitely. It will be great chance for me to be a part of Scandinavian boxing history and to enjoy the Viking atmosphere. I’m also fighting for my family. I have four sons and one daughter, and I want to motivate them to make a success of their lives.’’

Q: Are you confident you can beat Erik Skoglund in his hometown?

Q: What will be the next step for you if you are able to beat Erik Skoglund on September 19?

‘’Every ambitious fighter wants to fight for World titles and I’m no different. Sergey Kovalev is top of my list. He has three World titles and definitely is the best boxer in the division right now. I want to test his iron fists and check myself against his huge might. Second is Adonis Stevenson the WBC belt-holder. He is second after Kovalev in the division and great puncher too. In the SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING co-feature, undefeated IBF Junior Lightweight World Champion Jose “The Sniper” Pedraza (20-0, 12 KOs) will defend his belt against veteran former world title challenger Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry (34-6-2, 19 KOs).

The 12-round fight will be Broner’s first since he dropped a unanimous decision to former welterweight world champion Shawn Porter in June 20. Broner is 8-1 in title fights and has collected belts at 130, 135 and 147 pounds, but has never won a title at 140 pounds. Dropping down in weight, Broner is looking to add a fourth world title to his resume in his return to Cincinnati, where he defeated Emmanuel Taylor last September in front of his hometown fans in a 2014 Fight of the Year candidate.

Allakhverdiev’s (pronounced ah-lockh-ver-DEE-ev) only blemish came via controversial 12-round split decision in a title defense to then-undefeated Jessie Vargas in April 2014. Allakhverdiev, of Moscow, Russia, initially won the WBA 140-pound crown with an eight-round technical decision over previously unbeaten three-division world champion Joan Guzmán in November 2012. In his lone defense, the southpaw scored two knockdowns in a one-sided 11th-round TKO over former world champion Souleymane M’Baye in July 2013. This is Allakhverdiev’s first start since the questionable loss to Vargas.

Pedraza, of Caguas, Puerto Rico, won the vacant IBF 130-pound title with a dominating unanimous decision over Andrey Klimov on June 13 on SHOWTIME in Birmingham, Ala. The switch-hitting former Puerto Rican Olympian backed up his “The Sniper” moniker against Klimov as he picked apart the Russian with superior speed and accuracy. Pedraza earned a shot at the title in his previous bout with a career-best win over former world title challenger Michael Farenas last November.

Cherry, of Wauchula, Fla., is a former world title challenger who is 10-0 with 1 NC since 2009. His only blemishes since 2007 are losses to Timothy Bradley and Paulie Malignaggi at 140-pounds. Since the loss to Bradley in a bout for the WBC Super Lightweight World Championship in 2008, Cherry has gone undefeated as he made his way down to 135 and 130 pounds. Cherry, who was born in the Bahamas, owns victories over Vicente Escobedo, Monte Meza Clay and Wes Ferguson.

Hirsch, who played cornerback for the Oakland Raiders will be looking to add the IBU Middleweight title to his trophy case as in his last bout, he won the WBC USNBC title when he won a 10-round majority decision over previously undefeated Wes Capper (9-0) on March 14.

“Training was good. It was like regular training camps. Nothing different.”

Paredes is a bit of an unknown as there is not much footage on him, but that did nit seem to faze Hirsch.

“All I know is that he has a good record and I did not watch any footage of him.”

His football career prepared him for fights like this where he has to go into another man’s hostile territory, but Hirsch again spoke confidently in saying, “I don’t get concerned about that. I show up and compete and do my best every time. It doesn’t matter the location.”

Hirsch is eager at the opportunity to perform in front of a worldwide audience on GSS first live stream on YouTube.

“Anytime I fight, I am introduced to a new market with an opportunity to gain new fans, I am excited that I can grow my brand. That translates in to more money!!”

Hirsch is a natural athlete as he played for both the Raiders and the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League.

That led Hirsch to a brief amateur career where he went 6-1 and won the 2006 San Francisco Golden Gloves tournament.

LAS VEGAS (Aug. 27, 2015) – The six fighters who’ll be making their ShoBox: The New Generation debuts tomorrow/Friday, Aug. 28, live on SHOWTIME® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) at Downtown Las Vegas Events Center (DLVEC), across from The D Las Vegas are set to go following Thursday’s official weigh-in outside the D on Fremont Street’s Stage 3.

In the 10-round main event of a Don King Productions-promoted tripleheader, promising up-and-coming heavyweight Trevor Bryan (15-0, 11 KOs), of Albany, N.Y., will put his unblemished record on the line when he faces his toughest opponent to date, the more experienced Derric Rossy (30-9, 14 KOs), of Medford, N.Y.

In the co-features, two-time Dominican Republic Olympian Juan Ubaldo Cabrera (23-0, 16 KOs), will take on the DeCarlo Perez (14-3-1, 5 KOs), of Atlantic City, N.J. in a 10-round middleweight bout and, in the opening bout of the telecast, Samoa’s Natu Visinia (11-1, 9 KOs) of Tacoma, Wash., will face Joey Dawejko (14-4-2, 7 KOs), of Philadelphia, in an eight-round heavyweight matchup.

Bryan weighed 227 pounds, Rossi 235½. Cabrera tipped the scale at 160 pounds, Perez 160½ and Visinia weighed 273 pounds, Dawejko 236¾.

TREVOR BRYAN

“This is my first time on television and I’m moving up in class so this fight is very, very important to me. It’s my headline fight, a chance for everyone to see the next new top heavyweight coming up.

“The purpose is to win, but I want to look good and nice on TV doing it.

“[Derric] Rossy is a veteran fighter, an extremely clever boxer and a good thinker. His technique is very good and he moves very well for a big man. He has a good jab and always make for tough fights.

“I have strength, youth and size in my favor but no way do I underestimate him. I take every fight very seriously. I train very hard. I spar with experienced fighters. I’ve been in shape for my whole four-year career. I take a fight, I’m right back in the gym.

“I know with his style that I will have to take it too him, work the jab and then go downstairs to the body. I have a plan and I have to stick to it or there will be a problem. Ideally, I can break him down and he will go down in the fifth or sixth.

“I could have fought a lot of other guys who are not as technically sound as Rossy, but it is time for me to step up. The foundation has been built. From Day 1 we knew where we were going, and this is it: the next step. There’s no pressure because I always knew this day was coming.

“I know the importance of preparation. I know how important discipline is. What we do daily has become routine. I try to be consistent in everything. I put in a lot of work behind the scenes.

“I’ve been hit before, but I keep coming. I got countered and dropped in my last fight, but I got right back up and took care of business. To touch the canvas and then bounce right back up and win was an invaluable experience.

“I feel I have good fundamentals and that I’m learning all the time. I started at the bottom learning, but now I am able to work on perfecting my fundamentals and conditioning even more. I like to fight, I like the action but I know I have to fight smart, especially against a guy like Rossy.’’

DERRIC ROSSY

“I’ve had so many close fights, wins and losses, but the competition I go in against is always really good. I’m not the biggest puncher so I know enough not to just go crazy. Some of my fights I thought were closer than they should have been, but I accepted them and moved on.

“I don’t know for sure why I’ve had so many close fights. I must be a tough fighter for judges because sometimes I don’t think they notice all the stuff I’m doing in there, the little nuisances. Maybe they think I box too much. Everybody wants to see a knockout but I am basically a boxer. I feel comfortable in what I’m doing, too, so I am not going to change.

“I feel strong and feel I still have plenty left. My job is to make opponents make a mistake. I’m still around to catch up with people. In this sport you need time to develop; for me it was my confidence that I first had to develop. I remember I won a couple of fights just being a good athlete, not a good boxer.

“I took my lumps, too. Some of my fights that went into the books as losses I just know I won. The heartache of losing was terrible but I had to get through it. I had to keep going. People say I’m stubborn and crazy for still doing this, but I keep coming back. I always had it in me, the confidence, but I had to bring it out.

“Experience is an advantage because I now feel there is no situation I cannot handle. This kid, [Trevor] Bryan, can punch. He’s been brought up the right way. But now he’s moving up two-three steps against a more experienced, seasoned fighter. His confidence comes from a shallow pool and so far it’s working for him. Let’s see how it goes Friday night.

“I’m a little surprised I got this opportunity. I’m a real fighter. My confidence is great now and I still believe I am a good fighter. I’m 35 but 35 isn’t old anymore for a fighter. My heart is still in this 100 percent. I want to win the big prize.

“I took a tough road to get here. It takes time to develop in this sport. Because I played football and other sports, I didn’t turn pro until I was 24 and had only 10 amateur fights. So I’ve done it the hard way. It’s not the way I preferred, but it is what it is.

“From what I’ve seen I think the key is to give him lots of feints and angles and take away his jab. Bryan is long and tall. I need to make him as uncomfortable as possible and my experience will go a long way in making that happen. I’m totally looking forward to this fight.’’

JUAN UBALDO CABRERA

“I feel good and my weight is good. Some guys get lost in the shuffle after they turn pro and that is me. That is why this fight is so important. It’s my opportunity to show the world what I can do.

“It was very hard for me to turn pro after my amateur career. I was such a big star they [Amateur Boxing Federation] wanted me to stay amateur for as long as I could. They never gave me permission to go pro. So I had to get a visa on my own and come to the United States.

“I’ve been a pro the last 10 years and it has been very tough. I had managerial problems, guys taking money from me; it really delayed my progress. I never lost my desire to fight even though I had to deal with so much outside the ring. I didn’t get overly discouraged although I could have after getting taken advantage of.

“I feel good now with Don King as my promoter. I’m happy to be fighting again and to be able to dedicate myself fully to the sport. I won a decision in my last fight but I know I can do better. I ate something bad two hours before the fight and I got sick. I was sick during the fight and couldn’t wait to get out of the ring once the decision was announced.

“I like to box; I feel I am a very good boxer with good movement. I play the angles in the ring. I feel I have a nice jab. I’ve never been badly marked or cut up, never really been caught with a great shot.

“With my experience I am ready for what [DeCarlo] Perez brings. I can switch to southpaw, adjust to any style. This is my first fight on television, my first real opportunity as a pro and want to do very well very badly. I know Perez starts slowly, I am going to give him a couple rounds to see what he’s got.

“Of course I would love to knock him out in one round but my mindset is to win, to do whatever it takes to get my hand raised. If he comes to fight, it’s going to be a great fight.’’

DECARLO PEREZ

“I’m always in the gym, always in shape. I’ve been looking for this kind of opportunity for a long time so I have always kept myself ready. With a win something big can come out of it.

“I know little about Cabrera except he was a two-time Olympian a long time ago. As long as I know how tall an opponent is, I can prepare mentally how he is going to measure up against me. I feel I can fight a variety of ways and I am ready for anything he brings. I have a little momentum going and I want to keep it going.

“This is by far my biggest opportunity on television. As a kid growing up under tough circumstances, living in two rescue missions, I sometimes wondered if I’d ever get to this point. So to do well and make a great impression will only fuel my dreams more to become a world champion.

“I’m known for slow starts but that won’t be the case tomorrow. He is 23-0 and that sounds good, but in this sport it doesn’t always come down to records as much as to the quality of your opponents. If you’re supposed to beat or KO a guy and you do, you’re only doing your job. It’s nothing to get excited about.

“This is my first fight outside of New York or Pennsylvania. I’m fighting in a city where some of the greatest fighters who ever lived have fought. For me, fighting in Las Vegas, fighting on television, is as good as it can get. I’m looking forward to putting on a memorable show for the fans.

“I think it will be a war. I know that’s his style, but that’s my style as well. I want to make it a war. With this opportunity my foot is now in the door. I’m going to kick out the door and open it.

“This is only the start for me.”

NATU VISINIA

“I’ve been training in Riverside [Calif.] where it is hot, but not as humid as it is Vegas. It is going to be a different kind of hot fighting outside tomorrow, but I’m from Samoa, so even though I’ve never fought outside I am not concerned.

“We really focused on this camp, turning up the cardio, getting a nutritionist and a strength-and-conditioning coach. Honestly, this is the best I’ve ever felt. I feel closer to 20-years-old than 30.
Despite my weight, I feel lighter, more mobile.

“Being Samoan, I never back down from anything. I want to fight anybody, but you can’t just go in and slug and be successful your whole career. So I’m working on other aspects of my game.

“A lot of people in the business know me, but I’m sort of an underground guy. A lot of fans don’t know me but they will after tomorrow.

“I’ve fought two guys in my 12-fight career who were ranked in the top 25. How many did Deontay Wilder fight before he became champion? Part of that comes from my culture. You want to get it on, that’s fine by me. Put aside that macho, though and I know now you have to be moved the right way.

“I lost to [former world champion] Steve Cunningham, but I learned an invaluable lesson in that fight and it may actually have helped my stock more than hurt me. I did MMA before boxing and loved it, but nothing is like boxing.

“Outside the ring, Joey [Dawejko] and I are friends and it is always tough fighting a friend, but we both have families to feed and sometimes you just have to do it and put friendships aside.

“Joey is the shortest opponent I’ve ever fought but he is tough, real crafty and has that Philly style. For me, my natural instincts are to go right through him, but I plan to be patient and utilize my jab and legs.

“I feel I’ve progressed every fight and now this is my chance to showcase my skills. It’s time for me to get my name known.’’

JOEY DAWEJKO

“A lot of fighters, because of my height, think my style is too come straight to them, but I like to stand in the pocket and counter.

“Natu’s a big guy, for sure, but I think he’s slow and I can take advantage of that. He gets hit a lot so he may just walk into something. I know I can hurt him. I feel I can slip his punches and move. I won’t just stand there and let him hit me.

“I’ve fought much better [opposition] than he has. I fought unbeaten guys when I was just starting out, but I’ve since turned my career around. I fought [Derric] Rossy and beat him on one week’s notice, so I feel I have some experience.

“Philly fighters are the best in world. They have to grow up and come up the hard way. It can be a struggle. Everybody always underestimates me. They see this little short fat guy walking through the gym and wonder what he’s doing there.

“This is my ShoBox debut. It is something I have always dreamed of. I can’t wait for Friday.’’

The NVBHOF was founded in 2012 by President Rich Marotta and presently operated by Director Michelle Lewis-Corrales. Its mission is to honor boxers and those associated with the sports who have contributed to the advancement of boxing in Nevada. It is a non-profit organization with proceeds, after expenses, being distributed to boxing-related charities, special-needs former boxers, youth boxing, Nevada boxing gyms, and other worthy organizations. This unique fan experience event, which allowed fans to meet and greet boxing legends, past and current champions and other celebrities of the sport, debuted last September. This year the Expo will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and once again, allow fans a chance to collect autographs, take photos and purchase merchandise and memorabilia.

Exhibitors such as boxing gear, apparel, broadcasting media and other brand companies who wish to participate will have a chance to showcase their products to fans and the whole boxing industry.

Last year’s inaugural Box Fan Expo featured some of the most popular fighters and boxing celebrities in recent history. Fans were treated to visits with Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr, Martinez, Amir Khan, Zab Judah, Mikey Garcia,Toney, Riddick Bowe, Leon Spinks Terry Norris, Porter, Chris Byrd, Jesse James Leija ,Lamon Brewster, Ray Mercer, Earnie Shavers, St-John, Erislandy Lara, Quillin, Jean Pascal and Austin Trout. Shane Mosley and His VP of Operations Trista Pisani are extremely disappointed with the recent comments made by WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman. Yesterday the WBC distributed a press release stating that, “The World Boxing Council expresses complete rejection concerning the embarrassing fight simulation between Shane Mosley and Ricardo Mayorga at their press conference yesterday.”

This statement was released in regards to the bad judgment exercised by Mayorga who slapped Ms. Pisani on her back side as their final press conference was ending. The notion that the WBC would comment on this terrible act against a woman (in an executive role no less) without first examining the facts and at the very least picking up a phone and calling Team Mosley to hear their side of the story on the events that took place is very disappointing and frankly is appalling.

Mayorga backtracked and said that he was coerced into this vile act only after he received countless negative comments and reactions from the general public and a stern phone call from Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega.

It appears very obvious that the WBC reacted to Mayorga’s interview with the Nicaraguan press after the phone call from his President in which he was reportedly told that he would lose the support of Ortega if he didn’t immediately clean up his act. This type of irresponsible commentary without one shred of fact checking is alarming. It goes without saying that Mayorga has a history of irrational behavior.

When a woman is potenially violated the WBC has a responsibility to tread more carefully and owes Ms. Pisani an apology.

LAS VEGAS – (Aug. 27, 2015) – Floyd “Money” Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) opened up the Mayweather Boxing Club on Wednesday for his last media day ever as he prepares for the last fight of a celebrated 19-year career. “I’m betting on my chin, that’s for sure. He couldn’t knock out [Jermell] Charlo in his last fight. He made all kind of excuses for losing. The reason he lost was because he lost to a better fighter.

Two Madrid-based fighters have traveled to a newly established 340 Boxing/Sampson Boxing training camp in the island paradise of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, to prepare for their upcoming fights.

A student from the famed Gorets Club, Idrisov (pictured to the left) is coming off of a sensational win at M-1 Challenge 57 in May, in which he won a decision over German challenger Max Coga (4-0-0). Idrisov is unbeaten in M-1 Global fights having also defeated Brazilian opponent Yuri Maia (3-0-0) via a first-round knockout at M-1 Challenge 49 in June of 2014.

The other most recently announced fight is between a pair of talented lightweight prospects, Ramazan Esenbaev (8-1-0, 2 KO/TKO, 2 SUB) and Damir Ismagulov (4-1-0, 3 KO/.TKO, 0 SUB), who will meet on the preliminary card.

Esenbaev is a Russian freestyle wrestler who is 4-1-0 in M-1 Global competition. He has been fighting in Japan for the past year. WORCESTER, Mass. (Aug. 27th, 2015) – Austin, Tex., junior middleweight Kenton Sippio-Cook thinks Khiary Gray should’ve done his homework before agreeing to fight him Friday, Sept. 18th, 2015 at Twin River Casino.

“Somebody in Khiary’s team either got lazy with their work in finding an opponent, or really just doesn’t care about Khiary,” Sippio-Cook said. “It’s as simple as that.”

Gray (8-0, 6 KOs), speaking publicly for the first time at Wednesday’s press conference at Rocky’s Sports Bar in his hometown of Worcester, Mass., insists this is no last-minute cram session as he prepares to lock horns with Sippio-Cook (6-2, 4 KOs) for the vacant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Northeast Junior Middleweight Title in the six-round co-feature of “Mayhem,” presented by CES Boxing.

“I don’t care what he says. He’s going to feel a left hook, body, or head. After that, he’s just going out,” Gray said. “I’m excited for it. I’ve been waiting for it.”

This will be Gray’s first six-round fight, whereas Sippio-Cook has boxed six full rounds three times already and recently went the distance with Wes Capper in a scheduled eight-round bout in May. While Gray has been incredibly in 2015, having already fought five times, none of those fights went past the first round as Gray knocked out each opponent, raising questions as to whether or not he’ll have the stamina to fight six full rounds, if it lasts that long.

Gray, however, insists it’s no issue, referencing his second pro fight last September in which he boxed four full rounds with the game Sergio Cabrera, a fight he won unanimously on the scorecards.

“I could’ve went six or eight rounds,” Gray said. “I’ve sparred 10, 13 rounds before. This is going to be no different.”

This fight also represents Gray’s toughest opponent to date. Though he’s coming off a pair of losses, the 24-year-old Sippio-Cook has stepped up the level of competition in recent fights; his last three opponents have a combined 22-3 record.

The showdown between Gray and Sippio-Cook is one of two title fights on the card, which also includes the 10-round main event between Rhode Islanders Rich Gingras (15-4-1, 9 KOs) of Lincoln, the reigning New England Light Heavyweight champion, and unbeaten challenger Angel Camacho Jr. (14-0, 4 KOs) of Providence.

The undercard features several new faces, highlighted by Stoughton, Mass., junior welterweight Travis Demko (3-0, 1 KO), who makes his Rhode Island debut against Mohamed Allam (1-0) of Holyoke, Mass., followed by Worcester junior middleweight Andy Gonzalez (1-0, 1 KO), who battles 6-foot-4 southpaw Antonio Allen of Philadelphia in Allen’s debut. Both are four-round bouts.

New London, Conn., heavyweight and Peter Manfredo Sr. protégé Cassius Chaney (3-0, 2 KOs), a former two-time amateur national champion, and Bronx, N.Y., light heavyweight “Fly” Mike Marshall (1-0, 1 KO), also make their Rhode Island and Twin River debuts in separate four-round bouts.

Cranston, R.I., junior middleweight Jon Smith (2-0, 1 KO) ends a two-year layoff in a four-round bout against Rodrigo Almeida (1-2) of Woburn, Mass., and Framingham, Mass., junior welterweight Julio Perez (1-0) returns to face newcomer Pedro Martinez Jr. of Mooresville, N.C., in a four-round bout.
