New York, NY / Indio, Calif. (8/6/15) – This Saturday night, Philadelphia’s Tevin Farmer (19-4-1, 4KO’s) continues his real-life Rocky story when the junior lightweight contender takes on hard-hitting, former world title challenger Daulis Prescott (30-2, 22KO’s). The bout, scheduled for 10 rounds, will be part of a three-fight HBO Latino telecast, taking place at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California.

It is hard to think of another fighter in recent memory that has had as drastic a career turnaround as Farmer has had. Three years ago, Farmer’s record stood at 7-4-1 and he was considered nothing more than a tough Philly fighter who was a good opponent to match against up-and-coming prospects. Fast-forward three years and 12 impressive wins later and Farmer has not only emerged as one of the prospects he was once put in against, but as a legitimate contender.

In his most recent outing in April, Farmer dominated previously undefeated Angel Luna (10-0-1), winning an eight-round unanimous decision, in a bout that was shown live on ESPN Friday Night Fights. The win over Luna was Farmer’s third over a previously undefeated opponent during his 12-fight win streak, which dates back to October of 2012, when Farmer was stopped in eight by current IBF junior lightweight champion Jose Pedraza.

In Prescott, Farmer meets easily his toughest opponent to date since taking on the aforementioned Pedraza. The bout is a true crossroads battle between two young contenders who simply cannot afford another loss at this point in their career if they want to take the next step up the ladder of the 130lb. division. Prescott last tasted defeat in 2012, when he was stopped by one of boxing’s biggest punchers pound-for-pound, undefeated and reigning featherweight kingpin Nicholas Walters. Since the loss to Walters, Prescott has rattled off four consecutive victories, three inside the distance. Farmer knows that if he wants to continue his ascent up the ranks of the 130lb. division and close in on a shot at the junior welterweight title, he must not only win, but do so in impressive fashion come Saturday night.

Atlantic City, NJ (August 6, 2015)–On Saturday night, August 15, Silverspoon Promotions in conjunction with the Atlantic City Boxing Hall of Fame will present a huge night of boxing at The Playground in Atlantic City.

In the 10-round main event, be Heavyweight contender Chazz “The Gentleman” Witherspoon will take on Nicholas Guivas.

Witherspoon (33-3, 25 KO’s) of nearby Paulsboro, New Jersey established himself as one of the top American Heavyweights as the St. Joseph’s University graduate won his first twenty-three bouts with wins over the likes of Michael Alexander (11-0), Talmadge Griffis (24-6-3), & Jonathan Haggler (18-1) before suffering his 1st defeat to future two-time world title challenger Chris Arreola via controversial disqualification.

Witherspoon went on to win three win a row which was highlighted by an entertaining 8th round stoppage over Adam “The Swamp Donkey” Richards (21-1). That fight was voted Ring Magazine’s 2008 Heavyweight Fight of the Year. Witherspoon then dropped a fight to future two-time world title challenger Tony Thompson.

Witherspoon went on to score 4-consecutive knockouts which included a devastating 3rd-round destruction over Tyson Cobb (14-2).

Witherspoon then took on undefeated prospect Seth Mitchell on April 28, 2012 in a bout where Witherspoon had Mitchell badly hurt on several occasions before Mitchell came away with the victory.

In his last bout, Witherspoon scored a 5th round stoppage over Galen Brown on April 18 in Pennsauken, New Jersey.

In a rematch of their epic April 11 world-title fight Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-2-2, 17 KOs) will defend his WBO Junior Lightweight title against four-time world champion Orlando “Siri” Salido (42-13-2, 29 KOs) while WBC Super Middleweight Champion Badou Jack “The Ripper” (19-1-1, 12 KOs) will take on his mandatory challenger “Saint” George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs). Also part of this promotion is former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Lennox Lewis. While not fighting anymore, he stills as the passion for his sport. Lewis defeated Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Vitali Klitschko among the more notables during his illustrious boxing career.

In the co-feature, current Canadian heavyweight champion Dillon “Big Country” Carman (8-2, 7 KOs), of Mississauga, Ontario, will face former Lewis and Tyson opponent, Jamaican-born Donovan “Razor” Ruddock (40-5-1, 30 KOs). A total of eight bouts will be scheduled during the event, showcasing young talents from Ontario and Quebec.

Canadian legend George Chuvalo fought for the heavyweight world title March 29, 1966 at the Maple Leaf Gardens against defending champion and boxing icon Muhammad Ali, in probably the most famous bout ever held in the city. The always tough Chuvalo lasted 15 rounds with the man known as “The Greatest”.

Toronto native Nick Furlano also boxed and lasted 15 rounds against ferocious World Boxing Association (WBA) world super lightweight champion and International Boxing Hall of Fame member, Aaron “The Hawk” Pryor, June 22, 1984, at the Varsity Stadium of the University of Toronto.

Since then, Sarnia’s son Steve Molitor was the International Boxing Federation world super bantamweight (122 pounds) champion, from 2006 to 2011. He fought in seven world title fights in Ontario, all at the Rama Casino.

More recently, November 15, 2014 at the Hershey Center in Mississauga, Brampton’s own Denton Daley challenged WBA interim world cruiserweight champion Youri Kalenga, a nativeof the Democratic Republic of the Congo, losing in the 12th and final round.

Looking to establish himself in the United States heavyweight division, the talented but unproven Bryan of Pompano Beach, Fla., by way Albany, N.Y., is taking a huge leap in class against Rossy, of Medford, N.Y.

So how good of a prospect is Bryan, who turns 26 on Aug. 23? The former amateur standout
won five national championships in just 60 amateur bouts. While a close loss in the finals of a 2011 qualifying tournament kept him out of the U.S. Olympic Trials, the heavyweight gained valuable experience at Northern Michigan University under the tutelage of former U.S. Olympic Coach Al Mitchell.

Since his debut at 22 in November 2011, the 6-feet-4 Bryan has stayed active and registered 10 of his 11 knockout victories in three rounds or less. Bryan, who knocked out outmatched Stacy Frazier in the second round last June 20, is excited for the opportunity to prove himself against a veteran heavyweight.

“On paper, it looks like it’ll be exciting and I’m definitely looking at it as a breakout fight for me,’’ Bryan said. “I feel excitement, not pressure. It’s time for people to start mentioning my name with the others. I’ve had a great training camp, I continue to feel confident with trainer Stacey McKinley and I feel strong, mentally clear and confident. I’m ready to roll.”

Bryan has gone eight rounds once but is intelligent enough to not overlook a dangerous veteran like Rossy.

“You can’t take an awkward, determined guy like Rossy lightly,” Bryan said. “He’s scored a couple of upsets, fought some guys he thought he beat, has ring experience and he’s been there against all kinds. Like me, I feel he’s kind of desperate in his own way and the guys who are the most desperate are the most dangerous.

“This guy can’t beat me but I expect a tough, tough fight. I know Rossy’s not coming to lie down. Me? I’m just a young fighter trying to make his way and looking to showcase my talents. It’s time to fight somebody tough.”

Rossy, 35, has never managed to get past journeyman/gatekeeper status and over that proverbial hump fight that catapults you to the next level.
Rossy has been in with former WBO heavyweight champion Ray Mercer, world-title contenders Eddie Chambers (twice) and Fres Oquendo and world-ranked contenders such as Vyacheslav Glazkov in an 11-year career in which he seldom got the benefit of the doubt in tight fights. In his outing before last, Rossy dropped a highly controversial 10-round majority decision to 2008 Olympic bronze medalist and IBF No. 2-rated contender Glazkov (17-0-1) on Aug. 9, 2014.

“I’ve been dealt some unfortunate hands in boxing, results not coming my way, but I don’t sit and dwell on them,’’ Rossy said. “The bottom line is I can’t sit around and mope. I’ve got to win and leave no doubt in anybody’s mind. I feel like I’ve done that in many fights, but for some reason they think I leave doubt.”

One exception came in his last fight when Rossy registered an upset in a unanimous 10-round decision over previously undefeated, untested Akhor Muralimov (16-0, 13 KOs going in). Utilizing smart separation and his considerable height and reach, Rossy triumphed by the scores of 97-93 and 96-94 twice.

Rossy is looking for a similar performance against the undefeated Bryan.

“Bryan, I think he’s put together well,” Rossy said. “He’s a good boxer. It’s going be a good stylistic and action-packed fight. We’ll both try to establish our jabs. I think this is a formidable fight for both of us.

“Bryan has the pedigree to maybe be a heavyweight champion someday, but not now. In my eyes I feel he’s making a mistake, but anybody that fights me know they are looking at a war. I am a high-risk, low-reward kind of opponent. I’ve fought them all; Bryan is a little green in that area so we’ll see.”

Before becoming a pro boxer, Rossy was an All American high school football star who would go on to play at Boston College where he was an outstanding 248-pound defensive end. He had some pro tryouts but was seen as a “tweener,” too big for linebacker, too small to play end. So he turned to boxing and despite only 10 amateur fights won the 2004 New York Golden Gloves tournament, and turned pro in October of that year. He went 15-0 at the outset of his pro career before losing to Chambers the first time.

Juan Ubaldo Cabrera, who will take on Mike Gavronski in the ShoBox co-feature, represented the Dominican Republic in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. The 36-year-old may best be known for defeating future world champion Jean Pascal en route to taking the gold medal in the middleweight class in the 2003 Pan-American Games. During an excellent amateur career, Cabrera also brought home a silver medal in the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games as a light middleweight.

Two years after his last appearance in the Olympics, at the age of 26, he turned pro in October 2005 and won 13 of his initial 15 fights by knockout. Cabrera is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Tim Hall on the Deontay Wilder-Eric Molina undercard last June 13 in Birmingham, Ala. Cabrera has been inactive recently – the win over Hall was his first fight in a year and only his sixth since July 2009.

Gavronski is a durable, well-conditioned 29-year-old from the Northwest who combines boxing skill with KO power in both hands and also fought in MMA. He’s won four in a row – all in Tacoma – and is 3-0 this year. In his last fight, he recorded a resounding ninth-round TKO over rival Tyrell Hendrix on May 30 in a rematch of their 2011 draw.

A Washington state favorite, the 6-foot-tall Gavronski turned pro at the age of 24 in 2010, and suffered his lone loss via 10-round decision to Tureano Johnson (14-1) in 2011 in a bout for the WBC Continental Americas middleweight title.

The opening bout of the telecast – Natu Visinia vs. Joey Dawejko – features a heavyweight showdown between a talented prospect and a former standout amateur.

Visinia, 30, is perhaps the most promising up-and-coming Samoan heavyweight since former longtime contender David Tua. A true heavyweight with tremendous knockout power in both hands, a rock-hard head and granite chin, the 6-foot-4 30-year-old is coming off a fourth-round knockout over Joshua Clarke last May 13. Seven of Visinia’s nine KO victories came in the first round.

Visinia was a former standout high school and college football player at Southern Illinois University. He began his fighting career in MMA, where he became the No. 2 ranked amateur in the United States before making his pro debut. He then switched to boxing in 2006.

After his boxing pro debut in 2009, Visinia gained invaluable experience sparring with the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Evander Holyfield and Lamon Brewster. He won his first 10 pro fights before losing by seventh-round TKO to former two-time IBF cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham on Oct. 18, 2014. In his first genuine step up in class, Visinia dropped Cunningham in the fifth but Cunningham’s past class and conditioning proved too much to overcome.

Dawe­jko had a decorated am­a­teur ca­reer that included a World Junior Amateur championship in 2008, the national under-19 crown, and a victory over Bryant Jennings, who recently challenged heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko last April.

The 25-year-old Dawejko was on a heavy roll, winning six consecutive fights, four in a row by first-round stoppage before his six-fight winning streak ended when he lost a 10-round decision to Amir Mansour (21-1) in a Pennsylvania State heavyweight title fight this past May. This will be the third start of the year for the 5-foot-10, six-year-pro, an all-action heavyweight who owns a victory over Rossy in January 2014. Two outings back, on March 3, Dawejko required all of 27 seconds to dispatch of Enobong Umohette.

Barry Tompkins will call the ShoBox action from ringside with Steve Farhood and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

He also made his mark on Cape Cod boxing as a trainer coaching Hyannis’ Kippy Diggs to a career that ended with him having a record of 30 wins, 5 losses and 22 of his wins coming by way of knockout. Diggs was also at one point world rated and held the NABF Welterweight title. He also trained Falmouth’s Jay Pina to a 16-3 career record and Hyannis ring veteran Terry Crowley – who pulled some major upsets in his career including a 1982 TKO over Kevin Rooney, who would go on to great fame as Mike Tyson’s trainer when he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history. He also lost a very close split decision to Dicky Eklund, Micky Ward’s brother who was portrayed by Christian Bale in the movie, “The Fighter”, during a bout in South Yarmouth in 1983.

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 5, 2015) — Marvelous Marvin Hagler’s middleweight world championship belt; trunks, gloves and robes worn by Diego Corrales, Erik Morales, Jose Luis Castillo and Johnny Tapia, among others; Oscar De La Hoya’s 1992 Olympic gold medal and artifacts such as betting slips from a 1910 Jack Johnson bout and Jim Jeffries’ shoes, will be on display at the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame’s exhibit/museum at Caesars Palace on Friday and Saturday.

The third annual NVBHOF induction gala will be held on Saturday at Caesars, and Hall CEO/Founder/President Rich Marotta wanted to provide a special treat for boxing fans in Las Vegas, so he came up with the idea for the exhibit.

It will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday outside the Palace Ballroom at Caesars from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

“We hope the entire boxing community of Las Vegas will come out and enjoy this different special attraction,” Marotta said. “It will honor the rich history of boxing in Nevada, as well as the glamorous figures who made Nevada the boxing capitol of the world.”

Tulsa, OK (August 4, 2015) – Heavyweight knockout king Trey Lippe-Morrison is now training under Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

A seven-time Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) Trainer of the Year, Roach’s resume is amongst the greatest in history. During the last quarter century, Roach trained countless greats including Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, Bernard Hopkins, Mike Tyson, Wladimir Klitschko, James Toney, Michael Moorer, Ruslan Provodnikov Amir Khan and Guillermo Rigondeaux amongst others. In 2012, Roach was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame.

The second edition of ESPN’s Premier Boxing Champions on ESPN presented by Corona Extra (PBC on ESPN) series—featuring Danny García vs. Paulie Malignaggi and Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergio Mora—on Saturday, Aug. 1, delivered the largest boxing audience on ESPN since 1998 (5/22/98 Bronco McKart vs Ronald Weaver).

An average audience of 1,073,000 viewers (P2+) watched the event – up 34 percent and 55 percent among P25-54 from the July 11 PBC on ESPN event. The telecast also peaked during the main event with nearly 1.5 million viewers according to Nielsen.

LAS VEGAS (Aug. 4, 2015) – In what is expected to be the final fight of his illustrious 19-year career, boxing superstar and pound-for-pound king Floyd “Money” Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) will put his undefeated record and WBC and WBA Welterweight World Championships on the line against power-punching, two-time welterweight world champion Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) Saturday, Sept. 12 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, live on SHOWTIME PPV (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT).

Coming off of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao event, in which Mayweather remained undefeated by taking a unanimous decision victory, Mayweather will test himself against a hard-hitting fighter hungry for his chance to score a historic upset. Mayweather could also make history. If triumphant, he would match the record of the late heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano, who retired in April 1956 with a record of 49-0. Equaling Marciano’s record, one of the most hallowed in all of sports, would reaffirm Mayweather’s legendary status in the sport and buttress Mayweather’s claim as “The Best Ever.”

Two stellar world championship fights will also be included on the pay-per-view telecast.
Roman “Rocky” Martinez (29-2-2, 17 KOs) will risk his WBO Junior Lightweight title in a rematch against the boxer he dethroned, four-time world champion Orlando “Siri” Salido (42-13-2, 29 KOs). Their first fight, in April of this year, is considered by many to be a leading candidate for Fight of the Year. In addition, Badou Jack “The Ripper” (19-1-1, 12 KOs) will make the first defense of his WBC Super Middleweight World title against mandatory challenger “Saint” George Groves (21-2, 16 KOs). A fourth fight on the pay-per-view telecast will be announced soon.

One of the most decorated fighters in the history of the sport, Mayweather, of Grand Rapids, Mich., fighting out of Las Vegas, is a 12-time world champion in five weight divisions. With his trademark speed, defensive prowess and ring generalship, Mayweather has now defeated 22 world champions.

In addition to his in-ring accomplishments, Forbes, Fortune and Sports Illustrated have named Mayweather the world’s highest-paid athlete multiple times. His events amass record-breaking numbers; he has headlined four of the six highest-grossing pay-per-view events of all time and holds the all-time record in gross pay-per-view receipts.

Mayweather, the only fighter to have headlined three events that generated more than two million pay-per-view buys each, has garnered numerous “Fighter of the Year” awards over his storied career, including five ESPY Awards and two Boxing Writers Association of America awards.

Long considered as a possible foe for Mayweather, Berto, 31, of Winter Haven, Fla. is a former amateur standout and 2004 Olympian for Haiti. A veteran of eight world title fights, all at 147 pounds, he won the WBC Welterweight World Title in June 2008 and made five successful title defenses over the next two and a half years before losing the title in April 2011. Berto won the IBF Welterweight World Title in September 2011.

The offensive-minded Berto always makes for sensational scraps – his 2012 slugfest with Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero was a Fight of the Year candidate. In his most recent outing, he scored two knockdowns en route to a sixth-round TKO over Josesito Lopez last March 13.

Style-wise, the 5-foot-7 Berto is expected to adopt an aggressive approach with a high punch output, similar to the strategy employed by Marcos “El Chino” Maidana in his first fight against Mayweather. If Mayweather fails to display his trademark speed and defense, Berto could use his power and hand speed to make Mayweather uncomfortable and force him into a brawl.

Martinez, 32, of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, will make the first defense in his third stint as WBO Junior Lightweight World Champion. He won the WBO 130-pound crown the second time with a 12-round split decision over Miguel Beltran Jr. in September 2012. The ultra-tough Martinez made two successful defenses, including a close points’ triumph over previously undefeated Diego Magdaleno, before losing by eighth-round knockout to unbeaten Mikey Garcia in November 2013.

The 5-foot-8 Martinez won his first fight following the Garcia bout and then, in his most recent outing, he survived a desperate late rush to unanimously outpoint Salido across 12 hard-fought, action-packed rounds last April 11.

Billed as “The War,” the slugfest may have exceeded its billing as both fighters expended an inordinate amount of energy over the course of 36 minutes. Utilizing his advantages in height and reach, Martinez sent Salido to the canvas in the third and fifth and won by the scores of 116-109, 115-110 and 114-111. Salido was docked a point in the 11th round for a low blow, but never quit fighting and was in it to the end.

Tough and determined with a straight-forward style that makes for crowd-pleasing affairs, Martinez captured the WBO Title the first time in March 2009 and successfully defended it twice.

Salido, 34, of Sonora, Mexico, is a relentless hard-nosed boxer-puncher who is willing to take on anyone and is no stranger to the boxing rivalry that is Mexico vs. Puerto Rico.

The 5-foot-6 Salido captured the interim WBO Junior Lightweight World Championship in his outing before last in a back-and-forth 11th-round knockout over Thailand’s Terdsak Kokietgym on September 1, 2014. The brutal battle that featured seven knockdowns (Salido went down three times, Kokietgym four) was the 2014 Yahoo! Sports Fight of the Year.

Salido is also a two-time featherweight world champion. He fought some of the best of his generation at 126, including Mikey Garcia, Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez twice, and current WBO 126-pound champion Vasyl Lomachenko who Salido beat three fights ago on a 12-round split decision in March 2014.

Jack, 31, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, who fights out of Mayweather’s Las Vegas gym, captured the WBC 168-pound belt with a 12-round majority decision over defending champion and previously unbeaten Anthony Dirrell last April 24 by the scores of 116-114, 115-113 and 114-114.

A former European amateur standout – he’s the only boxer ever to represent Gambia in any Olympic Games (2008) – the 6-foot-1 Jack turned pro in June 2009 and won his initial 16 bouts before suffering a shocking first-round knockout loss to Derek Edwards in February 2014.

A boxer with good speed and movement, Jack has since won three in a row, including the major victory over Dirrell.

The battled-tested Groves, 27, of Hammersmith, London, England, will get his third crack at a 168-pound world title. The only blemishes on his record came in back-to-back fights against then-IBF/WBA champion and countryman Carl Froch at Wembley Stadium in London. After losing by controversial ninth-round TKO in November 2013, Groves was stopped by his fierce rival in the eighth round of a May 2014 grudge rematch that attracted 80,000 fans.

Groves has rebounded since falling to Froch, winning his last pair. Groves captured the vacant WBC Silver Super Middleweight title and European Championship in Sept. 2014 against Christophe Rebrasse and scored a seventh-round TKO over Dennis Douglin last Nov. 22.

LAS VEGAS (August 4, 2015) – World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) has stripped Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares of the franchise’s world welterweight title and placed him on immediate, indefinite suspension until all issues are resolved, following Palhares’ “WSOF 22” main event title defense against Jake Shields on Saturday, August 1.

“After taking the time to review the footage from Saturday’s bout between Rousimar Palhares and Jake Shields in its entirety, we decided that stripping Rousimar of his title and issuing him a suspension until this issue is resolved, was necessary,” said World Series of Fighting President, six-time world champion and two-time Hall of Famer Ray Sefo.

“As a fighter with over two decades of ring experience,” continued Sefo, “I am always going to be an advocate for other fighters and, in this case, I feel that World Series of Fighting must protect its athletes and rules of competition by imposing swift and firm disciplinary action to address what we saw as unfair play in the cage.”

The much-anticipated showdown between Palhares and Shields aired live on NBCSN as part of a five-bout telecast from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

In the middle of the second round, Palhares, after being mounted by Shields on the ground, suddenly placed his hands over Shields’ eyes and appeared to disrupt Shields’ vision.

In the third round, Palhares executed a kimura submission that prompted Shields to tap out nine times before Palhares freed Shields from the hold, as directed by referee Steve Mazzagatti.

“Because of specific instances in the past in which Rousimar had arguably held his submission holds longer than necessary in competition,” explained Sefo, “Steve Mazzagatti gave Rousimar clear verbal instructions in the dressing room, before the fight, about listening to and obeying the referee’s commands, including those about letting go of a submission hold when instructed to do so.”

As a result of what transpired in the cage between Palhares and Shields, the Nevada State Athletic Commission elected to withhold Palhares’ entire, contractual win bonus, pending a review of the bout.

Las Vegas (Aug. 4, 2015) – Kronk Boxing & Sylvia Steward-Williams (Emanuel Steward’s daughter) has confirmed that they will appear and have a booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center for the second annual Box Fan Expo that will take place Saturday Sept. 12, 2015. The Boxing Expo will coincide with Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s last fight and Mexican Independence weekend.

Kronk Boxing will have merchandise and apparel to sell to the boxing fans and Kronk followers. The late Emanuel Steward would have been proud to participate at the second annual Box Fan Expo.

When Steward first heard about the Box Fan Expo, he said, “If you want to have a Boxing Expo, you got to do it big; and to do it big you need to go to Vegas. This is a boxing fan’s dream.”

The legendary Kronk Gym made famous around the world by Steward, who produced a string of world champions, including Lennox Lewis, Wladimir Klitschko and Hall of Famer Thomas Hearns. Kronk closed its doors after Steward’s death on Oct. 25, 2012. After three years of hard work and dedication, the famous gym reopened this past Memorial Day weekend.

“It took a lot of work,” said Steward-Williams, owner of Kronk Boxing/Sportswear. “It’s a labor of love, and it was my father’s legacy.”

NEW YORK (August 4, 2015) – This Friday night, boxing returns to the Ballroom at Bally’s Atlantic City on Friday, Aug. 7, with an exciting ShoBox: The New Generation triple-header featuring the return to the series of Ukrainian blue-chip middleweight prospect Sergiy Derevyanchenko (5-0, 4 KOs, WSOB: 23-1, 7 KOs) as he faces his toughest test to date, former world title challenger Elvin Ayala (28-6-1, 12 KOs) of Reading, Pa. This crossroads battle is scheduled for eight rounds in the middleweight division and will be televised live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast).

In the co-feature, Derevyanchenko’s stable-mate, red-hot prospect Ievgen Khytrov (10-0, 9 KOs), of Krivoy Rih, Ukraine, squares off against upset-minded Nick Brinson (17-3-2, 7 KOs), of Rochester, N.Y., in an eight-round middleweight matchup.

Opening the ShoBox telecast, undefeated knockout artists Regis Prograis (14-0, 12 KOs), of New Orleans, La., and Amos Cowart (11-0-1, 9 KOs), of Leesburg, Fla., will clash in an eight-round junior welterweight showdown.

Returning to the friendly confines of Atlantic City will be nearby Millville, New Jersey’s favorite son, middleweight prospect Thomas LaManna (16-1, 7KO’s) as he is set to square off against Virginia’s Joshua Robertson, in an eight-round middleweight matchup. The bout on Friday will be LaManna’s 10th appearance in Atlantic City, and his seventh at Bally’s since turning pro in February of 2011. The popular LaManna is coming off the first hiccup of his professional career, a 6th-round TKO loss at the hands of highly regarded and world-rated contender Antoine Douglas on the ShoBox series in March of this year. With a strong contingent of hometown fans expected to be on hand, LaManna will look to get back to his winning ways in impressive fashion.

Also looking to get himself back into the win column will be Philadelphia’s popular heavyweight contender Joey Dawejko (14-4-2, 7KO’s) as he squares off against Delaware’s Robert Dunton in their eight-round scheduled matchup. Dawejko was an outstanding amateur, capturing 14 United States Amateur championships, and winning Gold at the 2008 World Youth Championship. Dawejko is also the youngest fighter ever to win the Eastern Olympic Trials at just 16 years of age. Dawejko is 6-1 in his last seven bouts, with the lone loss coming in his most recent outing against fellow contender Amir Mansour. Dawejko’s four career losses have come against opponents with a combined record of 44-1-1. Prior to the defeat against Mansour, Dawejko had scored four consecutive highlight reel first-round knockouts. Dawejko has promised to begin a new knockout streak when he squares off against the upset-minded Dunton.

Also seeing action on the card will be DiBella Entertainment’s undefeated Noel Murphy (2-0, 1KO) as he squares off against Stacey Anderson in their four-round welterweight matchup. Murphy, originally hailing from Cork County, Ireland, but now living and training in Yonkers, NY, is an exciting young prospect, with a seek-and-destroy style and good power in both hands. The Irishman has already begun to gain a strong following amongst the large Irish fan-base in New York, with hundreds of fans cheering him on at his most recent victory in May at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, on the undercard of Amir Khan’s title defense over Chris Algieri. Murphy will be looking to put on another show when he squares off against Anderson Friday night.

Rounding out the card will be Philadelphia’s once-beaten Anthony Burgin (8-1, 1KO) as he takes on Pittsburgh’s Justin Johnson in a six-round lightweight matchup.

MIAMI (August 4, 2015) – Five-time world champion Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver (31-6, 22 KOs) will be looking through – not past – former two-time IBF champion Steve “USS” Cunningham (28-7, 13 KOs) on Friday night, Aug. 14, in their 12-round heavyweight showdown at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

WBA #9 Tarver vs. IBF #6/WBC #14 Cunningham is the main event on a Premier Boxing Champions series show airing live on Spike TV, the same network Tarver serves as its boxing color commentator.

Tarver is on a mission to become the oldest heavyweight champion of the world in boxing history. The 46-year-old southpaw realizes he has to get past Cunningham in order to get a world title shot against Wladimir Klitschko or Deontay Wilder.

“I respect Steve Cunningham,” Tarver explained. “I’m not looking past him, I’m looking through him. If I have to go through Wilder to get Klitschko, so be it. I’m getting that world heavyweight title and when I defeat Klitschko it’ll be the biggest story in sports. But I know that I won’t get my title shot unless I get by Cunningham.

“The ‘Magic Man’ is bringing 1000 tricks in his bag but it’s only going to take one to take him out. I’ve been working hard in training camp and he hasn’t been focused. Steve is a solid durable opponent who has proven himself in the heavyweight division, coming off a close eliminator that many thought he won. I have the test of fighting a guy who you can’t make quit, so you have to knock him out because he’s proven his heart and guts. Steve’s also motivated because he knows what beating me can do for his career.”

At 46 and a grandfather-to-be next month, Tarver realizes that he may not be the same fighter he was during a nine-fight stretch between 2002-2006, in which he was one of the world’s top pound-for-pound fighters, shocking Roy Jones, Jr. (see picture to the right) in two of three fights, splitting a pair with Glen Johnson, defeating Montell Griffin, Eric Harding and Reggie Johnson, and losing to Bernard Hopkins. Tarver, however, feels that his aforementioned experiences and overcoming so many struggles will be enough to take him back to the top of the boxing mountain.

“I learned the fundamentals of boxing and that’s why I’m still here at 46,” Tarver noted. “My whole game is built on deception because, by the looks of it, I’m not supposed to be as fast, as quick and strong, as tough, or hit as hard as I do. So, that makes it hard to prepare for the fighter like me. I am sure Cunningham may have prepared for a physical war but has he prepare for the mental part of our fight? He’ll be fighting in a ring full of mine fields, one wrong step and, Kaboom!”
Tarver and his head trainer, Orlando Cuellar, have been together a full year for what amounts to three training camps considering Tarver’s originally scheduled fight against Jonathan Banks was postponed several months due to Tarver’s broken hand, followed by his impressive seventh-round stoppage of Banks last December in his last fight.

“We know each other much better now in terms of how much to push him in camp and what to expect from each other,” Cuellar commented. “He may be 46 but he’s never been beat up. His ring savvy is off the charts and he’s knowledgeable. Antonio’s a sharp puncher and vicious competitor. He does exactly what I ask of him in the gym. I’ve come to realize that he doesn’t need 160-200 rounds of sparring for a fight. He remembers everything from his fights against so many great fighters, storing information in his mind to use in his fight. He outthinks his opponent. I watched him set things up and put it all together. Antonio is a special fighter, super intelligent, a breeze to work with and most capable in the ring. I’m blessed to be working with him.

“Cunningham is going to come in and apply pressure, but he’s never fought anybody as elusive and intelligent as Antonio, who can catch or slip, block or counter. He has so many tricks up his sleeve. Antonio is going to fight to his speed. Just when Cunningham thinks he has Antonio where he wants him, it’s going to be too late and Antonio is going to knockout Cunningham. Hector “El Finito” Tanajara from San Antonio has been fighting since 2007 and during that time has won eight national championships. In 2012, he qualified to attend the Veles Cup in Kurgan, Russia and took the gold medal in his weight class. This opportunity led the amateur standout to qualify for the 2016 USA Pre-Olympic trail competition. Winning the tournament and having been selected as one of seven to go to the 2016 Olympic trails, Tanajara decided instead to focus on a professional career. Now, the eight-time national champion will make his much-anticipated professional debut on August 6 as a newly signed Golden Boy Promotions fighter.

Hailing from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Thomas De Leon made his professional debut earlier this year taking on Ernesto Garza III in February at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, where he suffered his first loss due to a technical knockout in the third round. He quickly sought redemption taking on Mykal Fox in March at the Sphinx Club in Washington D.C. Fox proved to be another tough opponent, defeating De Leon with a first round technical knockout. From East Los Angeles, Jonathan Navarro is a boxing legacy looking to make an impression on his professional debut on the August 6 edition of LA FIGHT CLUB. The nineteen-year-old, whose uncle Jose Navarro was a 2000 U.S. Olympian and a flyweight title challenger in his professional career, has a decorated amateur career winning gold in 15 tournaments four of which were international while representing the U.S. on the national team. A gifted boxer who began his boxing career at seven-years-old, Navarro won his first Golden Gloves at nine years of age. Now with tournaments and numerous awards under his belt, he is ready to make his mark as a professional boxer.

Francisco Ochoa, of South Los Angeles is a new fighter looking to make his mark in the professional boxing scene. Ochoa made an impressive professional debut on March 27, 2015 after dominating opponent Misael Chacon at Quiet Cannon in Montebello, Calif. Ochoa, who was born in Mexico, trains out of the New Generation Boxing Academy in Lynwood, Calif. He began boxing at age seven, following in the footsteps of three older brothers. On August 6, Ochoa will look to continue his winning streak in his second professional bout at LA FIGHT CLUB.

The 26-year-old Andrew Gomez of Galveston, Texas, took on Noe Lopez as both fighters made their professional debuts last month at Amigoland Convention Center in Brownsville, Texas. Lopez ultimately defeated Gomez by unanimous decision. On August 6, Gomez will seek a victory as he takes on pro debut fighter Jonathan Navarro at The Belasco Theater.

A former high school wrestler, Marquis Pierce of Newark, New Jersey, made an impressive debut against Jeffery Dorsey in June 2013 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. His following six fights proved tough as he took on Glenn Dezurn, Ronell Green, and Jesus Gonzales in 2013; Anthony Caramanno in 2014; and Renaldo Gaines and most recently Chris Colbert in 2015. Pierce will take on recent newcomer Francisco Ochoa as he aims for a win at this month’s edition of LA FIGHT CLUB.

Hailing from San Antonio, Joshua Franco is also set to make his professional debut as a new Golden Boy Promotions fighter. Temoatzin Landeros of Tijuana, Mexico will not only make his LA FIGHT CLUB debut but also his U.S. debut when he takes on Joshua Franco at The Belasco Theater on August 6. He made his professional debut in March 2014 in his home country against Johnny Martinez, who defeated the young boxer in the second round.

Atlantic City, NJ (August 4, 2015)–This Friday night at Ballys Atlantic City, Middleweight Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna (16-1, 7 KO’s) will be back in action and looking to get back in the win column against a familiar foe when he takes on Josh Robertson in a bout scheduled for 8-rounds.

The bout will be part of the off-tv portion of a ShoBox televised tripleheader that will feature Middleweight Ievgen Khytrov taking on Nick Brinson.

LaManna of nearby Millville, New Jersey is coming off his first professional setback which ironically was televised on ShoBox on March 13 when he was stopped by 6 rounds to undefeated Antoine Douglas.

LaManna, who won a 6-round unanimous decision over Robertson in the same Ballys ring on September 28, 2013 knows that a big effort will get him back in a big fight.

“Training has been great. By the time I get in the ring on Friday, I would have completed a 10 week training camp. I started camp in New York and I was supposed to fight on July 25. That show got postponed and I was fortunate enough to land on this show,” said LaManna.

When asked about what he remembers about the first encounter with Robertson, LaManna recalls, “I won every round. That was a six rounder and this is an eight round fight. I want to stop him and make a statement.”

If LaManna is able to get that emphatic win, he is hoping to look impressive in front of his hometown fans.

“It’s good to be back on an undercard of a ShoBox event. It’s a high profile show in my home area. I will have a lot of support and I am looking forward to putting on a good performance.”

During the camp, LaManna is working on the things that he needed to tighten up after the loss to Douglas.

CANADIAN MMA star turned boxer Icho “The Bulldog” Larenas has stepped in to face Lucas Browne at The Melbourne Pavilion next Friday (August 14) following the withdrawal of Gonzalo Basile.

With Browne on the verge of a WBA world title shot, the fight is a potential banana skin and some would argue that Larenas presents a greater challenge than that posed by Basile.

The Quebec-born former UFC participant has won 15 of 18 fights since swapping the Octagon for the square ring and 14 of his opponents have failed to hear the final bell.

“Nothing has changed from my perspective. I’m ready to do a job, get back in the ring and get this guy out of there…The same as every fight,” Lucas, 22-0 (19 KOs), said.

“I’ve seen Larenas fight once or twice before in the UFC and on YouTube. He’s an aggressive guy who comes out fast and aggressive. It might be a short night if he keeps that game plan.

“I don’t like to leave it up to the judges. I’m the hardest hitting heavyweight in the world and I look forward to putting on a good show.”

Matt Clark, Browne’s manager, believes Basille’s withdrawal came due to “cold feet” rather than an injury, but he’s confident that his man will not be affected by the late notice change of opponent.

“Basile quite clearly thought twice about coming over here to face Browne,” he explained. “Everything was agreed by all parties but what can I say? He got cold feet, simple as that.

“Through the excellent work of Juan Pablo Manfredi, one of the best agents in boxing, we have secured an opponent for Lucas at such short notice.

“Clearly this isn’t an easy thing to do with Lucas being undefeated and probably the hardest puncher in the division. Not many guys like to put their hand up at short notice to potentially get their nose caved in.

“It is critical Lucas gets back in the ring and despite a change of opponent, he’s focused on his performance and nothing else. Larenas is built like a Sherman tank so Lucas will have to be careful early, shake off some rust and then break him down and get him out of there in spectacular fashion.”

He added: “Lucas remains as the mandatory challenger to the winner between Chagaev and Oquendo. That bout is due to take place in the next couple of months. We’ve also told Deontay Wilder’s team that we are open to offers to have Lucas challenge Deontay for his WBC title. The line must have been crackling with static because there’s been no reply!”

Next Friday’s bill will see Browne make the second defence of his WBA Intercontinental crown. The show is promoted by Brian Amatruda and will broadcast free to air across Australia on Channel 9.

The brash 6’3″ Polish heavyweight powerhouse Artur Szpilka is an aggressive all-out brawler. A pro since 2008, the southpaw first gained notice when he stopped the once-touted Owen Beck in four rounds in 2011, then unanimously outpointed former world title challenger Jameel McCline the following year. Szpilka bookended 2013 with two US-televised wars against Mike Mollo, winning both by devastating knockout. The 26-year-old enters the fight with three victories in a row, including a 10-round unanimous decision over former cruiserweight world champion Tomasz Adamek. Cuban born, but fighting out of Miami, 31-year-old Yasmany Consuegra (17-1, 14 KOs) will be in the opposing corner at Prudential Center.

Maciej Sulecki of Warsaw, Poland, will fight in the US for the second time, in a 10-round middleweight bout. The 26-year-old has impressive wins over the previously unbeaten Robert Swierzbinski, the 18-1 Lukasz Wawrzyczek for the Polish middleweight championship, and the 29-3 former world title challenger Grzegorz Proksa. As an amateur, Sulecki had a 110-30 record and was a three-time Polish Junior tournament champion.

Poland-born Kamil “Little Tyson” Laszczyk now living in North Bergen, NJ, is a world-ranked featherweight on the verge of a title shot. An aggressive volume-puncher, Laszczyk was a six-time national amateur champion in Poland, while accumulating a 110-7 record. Since turning pro in 2011, the 24-year-old has won an inter-continental title as well as a Polish international title. Facing him in an eight-round bout will be the unbeaten Dominican Queens-resident Oscauris Frias (16-0, 6 KOs).

Popular heavyweight contender Travis Kauffman (28-1, 20 KOs), of Reading, PA, is eager to step back into the ring following an injury-induced layoff. He is coming off of his most impressive victory a dominant unanimous decision over Vincent Thompson to pick up a regional title belt in January 2014. As an amateur, Kauffman accrued a record of 52-12, while finishing with a number one ranking in the US. The 29-year-old is currently trained by boxing guru Naazim Richardson along with his father Marshall and enters this bout with 10 consecutive victories.

“Swift” Jarrett Hurd (15-0, 9 KOs) is a junior middleweight prospect out of Accokeek, MD. Currently trained by Ernesto Rodriguez, the 24-year-old Hurd fights in the memory of his former coach Thomas Browner, who passed away in 2010. Hurd considered stepping away from boxing, but was encouraged to continue on when approached by Rodriguez, a protégé of Browner, at the late trainer’s funeral. A two-time Washington, D.C. Golden Gloves champion, Hurd turned pro in 2012 and secured his biggest victory this past April when he stopped tough Philadelphian Eric Mitchell inside three rounds.

Unbeaten light heavyweight prospect Michael Seals (19-0, 14 KOs), of Atlanta, GA, is a former college linebacker from Alabama A&M, where he earned a degree in physical education. Standing 6’2″, Seals turned pro in 2008 following just five amateur bouts. However, the 33-year-old has proven to possess absolutely devastating punching power, with 11 first-round knockouts to his credit. One of those impressive knockouts came against former champion Byron Mitchell in December 2012.

The 24-year-old world-ranked Puerto Rican-native Luis Rosa (20-0, 10 KOs) now lives and trains in New Haven, Conn. Under the tutelage of his father, Luis Rosa Sr., he turned pro in 2010 following a very successful amateur career. He was quickly hailed as a touted prospect with a growing fan base, given his relentless, come-forward aggressive style of fighting. Promoted by DiBella Entertainment, Rosa breakout year in 2014, securing his two most impressive victories to date, both in front of a nationally televised audience. In January of last year, Rosa dominated an eight-round slugfest over the highly regarded Jorge Diaz then later in May, he earned a unanimous 10-round decision over the top-rated 18-1 Luis Del Valle. On August 14, he’ll be focused on scoring his fourth victory thus far in 2015.

Brooklyn southpaw brawler Mikkel “Slikk Mikk” LesPierre (9-0, 4 KOs) is a junior welterweight prospect. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, LesPierre was introduced to boxing upon moving to the United States. After six years as an amateur, compiling a 36-13 record, LesPierre turned pro in 2012. LAS VEGAS (Aug. 3, 2015) – Newly crowned World Boxing Association (WBA) Interim cruiserweight champion Beibut Shumenov (16-2, 10 KOs) recently made history once again, defeating B.J. Flores (31-2-1, 20 KOs) by way of a 12-round unanimous decision as Premier Boxing Champions series headliner, which aired July 25th on NBCSN live from The Palms in Las Vegas.

Shumenov, 31, became the mandatory challenger for WBA “regular” cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev (27-1, 20 KOs, 1 NC), of Russia, as well as the first Kazakhstan native to capture a world title in two different weight classes having been the WBA light heavyweight champion from 2010-2014.

Boxing hotbed Kazakhstan has produced five other world champions during the past quarter-century: 1990 WBC super featherweight Aratoly Alexandrov, 2000 WBC heavyweight Oleg “Big O” Maskaev, 2001-2003 – IBF cruiserweight Vassily “The Tiger” Jirov, 2010-2012 WBA super middleweight Dimitri Sartison and reigning WBA Super/WBC Interim middleweight Gennady Golovkin.

In his fist historic fight back in 2010, Shumenov defeated defending WBA light heavyweight champion Gabriel Campillo viaa 12-round decision to establish the record for fewest-fights, 10, to become world champion of a major organization in the 175-pound division.

“I am very proud to set another record in boxing,” 2004 Olympian Shumenov said. “I’m honored to be the first fighter from my country to become world champion in two divisions. I’d like to thank my manager, Al Haymon, for giving me this opportunity. Lebedev is the main target and, if I pass that test, I want to fight the best fighters in the cruiserweight division.”

Shumenov went through a style transformation, under the direction of famed Cuban head coach Ismael Salas, who worked with the athletic Kazakh to change him from an aggressive, grinding fighter into a more complete, all-around boxer. Shumenov baffled Flores, who expected Shumenov to come to him and exchange punches, which would have given the naturally bigger, stronger Flores an advantage. Instead, Shumenov masterfully boxed his way to victory, using lateral movement, angles and positioning to frustrate Flores into ineffective aggression, resulting in an array of off-balance punches and misses.

After the fight, Shumenov explained the surprising change he went through after training with Salas since January. “I’m still in the learning process. Like my trainer says, there are no limits, and I still haven’t perfected what he’s teaching me. It really comes down to a lot of hard work, repetitions of muscle memory. My footwork for this fight came from my trainer. I was happy to be victorious but I still see myself getting a lot better, overall, as a complete boxer.”

Salas also trains World Boxing Council (WBC) World Lightweight Champion Jorge Linares (39-3, 26 KOs), in addition to handling past and present world champions such as Guillermo Rigondeaux, Yuriokis Gamboa, Danny Green, and Jesse Vargas.

“There is a process for everybody in terms of bio-mechanics,” Salas commented. “There are specialties of training I teach that aren’t used often in boxing, specific exercises for the dynamics of motion. I originally learned to coach in the Cuban system, which is similar to the Soviet system in which Beibut first learned, but I’ve also been all over the world learning different methods of training. It still takes time for a world-class fighter like Beibut, who has been world champion as a professional, and had many amateur matches. Jorge Linares was a two-time world champion before we started working together. Beibut is getting there. He’s still not at his full potential, right now, using only 40-50 percent of his tools.”

Shumenov is a lawyer and successful businessman who speaks five languages. Although he’s a two-time world champion, he’s still a student of boxing, and Salas is his highly respected professor.

“He’s (Salas) humble but a genius,” Shumenov insists. “He asks and listens to my opinions. We concentrate on fundamentals and he explains everything to me. Our team had a daily routine in camp in which we shared our knowledge after each training session. The four of us (Shumenov, Salas, Grmjoja and Crisler) became one.”

And the result was a second world title.
