Fegatilli wins warm-up against Dochev; prepared for 2015 run

The fight with Bulgaria’s Kristin Dochev was nothing more than an appetizer for Ermano Fegatilli.

The bout was a coax of what was to come for him and his team. A fight for the European Super Featherweight title on the table for April 2015, Fegatilli is just keeping active rather than developing rust. Even years separated from his first EBU title reign, he’s maintained a champion’s lifestyle.

With all of this on the table; he simply couldn’t lose.

From start to finish, the better man was left unquestioned. Fegatilli and Dochev had some sluggish moments, but Ermano was more active, more refined, and contributed the best of work where it mattered. He took control through the second half of the fight, and outboxed his opponent behind the jab.

The judges tallied 80-72, 80-72, and a marginally closer 78-74 for Fegatilli. The local crowd in Antwerp, Belgium offered a warm reception to the proud Italian-born, Belgian-raised,
and now Netherlands-based Fegatilli.

He may not be offered such commodity when he faces Romain Jacob, the unbeaten, fine-tuned Frenchman next year. The date is still being locked-in, but it will likely head
further to mid-year, April. With that, Fegatilli will likely appear at a local boxing gala again, on the 30th of January. Then, he will be fully prepared to capitalize on the
opportunity presented against Jacob.

Fegatilli, 30, is moving upward in the fighting age bracket. He’s a busy person outside of the ring, working full-time in the medical field. He’s often depicted as one of the most
educated and multifaceted of the fight game.

Boxing, for him, is simply a pleasure. A grueling business, but it brings an aura like none-other. Ermano Fegatilli has to be a boxer, but not for the reasons that many bring.
There is a fire that drives him to compete – and win.

Fegatilli has now improved to 30-5, and is ready to extend that furthermore, so long as he can. The journey to do so continues in 2015, as Fegatilli takes what little rest he gets, and moves onward – title-bound – in search of true glory.

BUCKLAND: I CAN MAKE PRIZEFIGHTER HISTORY TOMORROW

Gary Buckland says he will let the favourite tag stop him from making history in tomorrow night’s Prizefighter Lightweights III tournament at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, live on Sky Sports.

Buckland is looking to become the third fighter to win the title for a second time and the first two-weight champion, and is the bookies’ pick to triumph in the 34th edition of Matchroom Sport’s eight-man, one night event.

The Welshman triumphed here back in September 2010 in the Super Featherweights, stunning a star-studded field to take the title. ‘Dynamo’ edged out Stevie Bell in the quarter-finals before a brilliant first round KO of Gary Sykes landed him a place in the final against Derry Mathews, where he stopped the Scouser in the second round.

“It was four years ago and I only did five rounds on the night, because I was stopping them,” said Buckland. “That was good then but I wished I had the nine rounds now. There was no KO bonus then either! But I have that experience to call on and we’ve trained exactly the same way to get the same result. I don’t like being the favourite, last time out I was an outsider at 12/1 and I went and won it, I KO’d the favourite that night in Gary Sykes and Choi lost to Derry in a war before I beat him in the final, so the odds and who is the favourite doesn’t mean a thing, you just have to pour everything you have into every second.”

The 28 year old has happy memories of that night but his last outing was here too and ended in defeat to Richard Commey for the Commonwealth title. Buckland challenged the Ghanaian for the vacant belt, losing out on points, and having had two wars with fellow countryman Gavin Rees ahead of that defeat, the Cardiff man insists there’s still plenty left in the tank following those brutal distance battles.

“I shouldn’t have taken the fight with Commey in London really,” said Buckland. “Maybe had I boxed him in Wales it would’ve been different. It was a good experience and he’s a good fighter, I’d take a rematch tomorrow on neutral ground though. He’d had 17 fights and 17 KOs, he couldn’t KO me though and I think the fight was a lot closer than the scorecards suggested.

“I can only do what I can do, I feel good despite those fights with Gavin, they were brilliant battles but I have done 12 rounds since and I am as fit as a fiddle.”

Buckland beat Sykes again ten months after winning Prizefighter to land the British title and successfully defended it twice before losing it to Liverpool’s Stephen Smith – win in London, and that title will again be his focus.

“I would drop down to Super Featherweight and get my British title back,” said Buckland. “That’s the weight I belong at and that’s my title, and I want to get it back.”

Buckland could face second favourite Stephen Foster Jnr in the second semi-final, with Foster taking on Irishman Jono Carroll in the third quarter-final and Buckland facing big-punching Floyd Moore in the fourth quarter-final.

Craig Whyatt and Lee Martin kick off the action in quarter-final number one and the winner will face the victor of the rematch between Danny Connor and Michael Devine, who met in the same venue in September only for their ten-rounder to be halted prematurely when a clash of heads left Connor with a cut that he couldn’t continue to box with.

The draw plus weights:

Quarter-final 1: Craig Whyatt (9st 9lbs) vs. Lee Martin (9st 9lbs)

Quarter-final 2: Michael Devine (9st 10lbs) vs. Danny Connor (9st 10lbs)

Quarter-final 3: Stephen Foster Jnr. (9st 10lbs) vs. Jono Carroll (9st 9lbs)

Quarter-final 4: Gary Buckland (9st 9½lbs) vs. Floyd Moore (9st 10½lbs)

Martin J. Ward and Maxi Hughes meet in between the semi-finals and the final on Saturday night in an excellent British Super Featherweight match-up while there are outings before the start of Prizefighter for former British and Commonwealth Light Welterweight champion Ajose Olusegun fighting back in the UK for the first time since 2011, and talented young Lightweight Ohara Davies in his fourth pro fight.

A limited number of £40 tickets for Saturday night’s action are still available from www.matchroomboxing.com.

BIBIANO FERNANDES DEFEATS DAE HWAN KIM AND RETAINS ONE FC BANTAMWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BRANDON VERA SUCCESSFUL IN ONE FC DEBUT AGAINST IGOR SUBORA PLUS:TIMOFEY NASTYUKHIN DEFEATS EDUARD FOLAYANG BY KNOCKOUT

05 December 2014 – MANILA, Philippines: Asia’s largest mixed martial arts organization with a 90% market share, ONE Fighting Championship™ (ONE FC), returned to Manila in spectacular fashion, showcasing another night of world-class mixed martial arts action in front of a packed crowd at the MOA Arena. In the main event of the evening, Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes submitted Dae Hwan Kim with a Rear Naked Choke to retain his ONE FC Bantamweight World Championship. Brandon Vera knocked out Igor Subora in a battle of heavyweights and Timofey Nastyukhin shocked the crowd with a knockout of hometown MMA hero Eduard Folayang.

ONE FC Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes retained his title with a submission win over Korea’s Dae Hwan Kim. Kim proved to be a live challenger as he tested Fernandes’ championship mettle in the first round with a display of lightning quick strikes that found their mark. In the second round, Fernandes turned to grappling as he quickly worked to secure Kim’s back after the Korean missed a punch. Moments later, Fernandes locked in a Rear Naked Choke, forcing Kim to tap out.

In the co-main event of the evening, international mixed martial arts superstar Brandon “The Truth” Vera of the Philippines defeated URCC champion Igor Subora of the Ukraine via spectacular knockout, sending the MOA Arena crowd into a frenzy. The fight started off with both fighters trading heavy blows. Vera caught Subora in a Muay Thai clinch and unleashed a couple of knees to the head. Towards the end of the round, Vera slipped a punch by Subora and countered with a straight left, dropping his opponent and throwing in two more kicks for good measure. The referee stepped in to stop the fight, awarding Vera with the victory.

Timofey Nastyukhin of Russia defeated hometown hero Eduard Folayang after connecting with a combination of devastating strikes to win by knockout. After a solid exchange of power shots at the center of the cage, Nastyukhin landed a flying knee to the chin of Folayang, sending the Filipino to the canvas in the first round. Two quick kicks finished things off as the referee stepped in, awarding Nastyukhin the victory.

Roger Gracie of the renowned Gracie fighting family made a successful ONE FC debut against the hard-hitting James McSweeney. In a feeling out round, the two light heavyweights spent the majority outside of each other’s range until McSweeney connected with a roundhouse kick. In the second round, a cut opened up on McSweeney’s right eye courtesy of a Gracie left hand. Gracie went to work on the eye for the remainder of the round. In the third, things got worse for McSweeney as he hurt his foot after missing with a kick. Gracie immediately capitalized on the situation and pounced on McSweeney with downward strikes, causing the referee to call a halt to the contest.

In a bantamweight matchup, Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon impressed with a strong performance against the highly touted Koetsu Okazaki of Japan. After a slow start, it was Belingon who was able to land the damaging blows as he dropped Okazaki to the mat with a thudding right hook towards the end of the round. In round two, Belingon continued his dazzling display of elite striking with a wide array of kicks, punctuated by a flashy spinning side-kick that knocked Okazaki back. In the third, Belingon scored on a pair of kicks and finished the round with a series of sharp elbows from top position. All judges were in favor of Belingon, who won by unanimous decision.

Herbert Burns needed just a few minutes to take care of Honorio Banario, working and securing a Rear Naked Choke to end the fight in round one. As soon as the opening bell sounded, Burns took Banario’s back with lightning quick efficiency, sinking in the hooks almost immediately as both fighters hit the ground. For the rest of the round Banario tried desperately to defend from the choke but it was inevitable. Once the choke was locked in, Banario had no choice but to tap out, giving Burns the submission victory.

In a battle of light heavyweights, former NCAA Division I wrestler Jake Butler dominated Sylvain Potard in a much anticipated rematch. In round one, Butler controlled most of the action, keeping Potard ineffective against the cage. Butler used his wrestling again in round two, this time to gain mount, letting his hands go with a combination of damaging left hands. Butler continued his dominance to the end of the third and final round, winning the fight by unanimous decision.

Former Lumpinee champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke of Evolve MMA showed fans just how dangerous his world-class Muay Thai can be by taking care of Rene Catalan of the Philippines in a clash of ferocious flyweights. In round one, Sor Amnuaysirichoke worked masterfully in the clinch, blasting a plethora of vicious knees to Catalan’s midsection, one of which sent the Filipino to the canvas writhing in pain. With his opponent unable to continue, Sor Amnuaysirichoke nabbed the win by knockout.

Former boxing world champion Ana Julaton showcased her newfound grappling skills against opponent Walaa Abas, winning a unanimous decision. In the first round, both fighters traded strikes in the clinch but it was Julaton who was able to score on a takedown. In the second, Julaton’s boxing shone through as she landed a series of solid blows. The third round saw much of the same action as Abas tried her best to keep the distance and avoid Julaton’s power punching.

The Philippines’ Jujeath Nagaowa and Cambodia’s Tharoth Sam kicked off the action for ONE FC: WARRIOR’S WAY in an entertaining women’s atomweight contest. The former pro-boxer Nagaowa dominated the fight with impressive boxing in the clinch and some solid ground work. In the second round, Nagaowa caught Sam out of position and swiftly worked to get full mount, unleashing ground and pound to win by referee stoppage.

WARD: I WILL STOP HUGHES LATE

Martin J. Ward believes he’ll have too much for Maxi Hughes to handle when the pair meet in a British Super Featherweight title eliminator tomorrow night (December 6) at York Hall, Bethnal Green, live on Sky Sports.

Unbeaten Ward faces the Rossington man at the east London boxing mecca and while he rates his 24 year old opponent, he expects to overpower ‘Maximus’ in the later rounds as he faces his first southpaw in the paid ranks.

“He is an all-round pretty sound pro but he doesn’t have what I have got and I believe I have more than enough in the tank to beat him,” said Ward, who scaled 9st 3 ½lbs today, as did Hughes.

“He is a southpaw. A lot of orthodox fighters struggle with southpaws but I love fighting southpaws. He is not the most elusive of fights. He has a good boxing brain but I am going to be too quick, too sharp and hit too hard for him.

“I haven’t fought any southpaws as a pro but I used to love getting drawn to them. On the GB squad we used to spar southpaws and fight southpaws week in, week out. I used to love it because a backhand was a scoring point and I couldn’t miss them with a backhand.

“I believe I will come on stronger in the later rounds. Tony always trains you hard and over the years he builds an engine which stays inside you and the engine in have for this fight I could do 12 rounds. I will come on stronger later in the fight.

“It could go the distance. I am going to go out there and enjoy it. I am not going in there swinging and punching looking for a big knockout. I will keep my head on my shoulders and go and stick to my advice from Tony in the corner. But if he walks onto one he walks onto one and I have the power to knock him out.”

Ward and Hughes both faced Kakhaber Avetisian in their last outings – Ward stopping the experienced Georgian in the final round of eight at Wembley Arena on September 20, eight days after he’d taken Hughes ten rounds for the vacant International Masters Super Featherweight title in Sheffield, with Hughes winning every round.

“We both had the same opponent for our last fights and you can take a little bit from that,” said Ward. “Styles make fights and I believe my style is going to cause Maxi a world of trouble. I believe he is in for a hiding tomorrow.

“I step up with each fight that goes on because I am looking to get to the title stage and this is an eliminator for the British. He has proved himself over the ten-round distance that he is a decent ten-round fighter so he is a step up but it is one where I am excited to be able to show what I can do.

“I have been in a really hard camp for this fight, I have trained the hardest I ever have for a fight and I want to make a statement to every Super Featherweight in the country that I mean business. I want that British title around my waist by next summer.”

The title is now the property of Liam Walsh after the unbeaten Norfolk man took it from Gary Sykes in London last week, and Ward was a keen observer of their bout.

“Liam looked really good in winning it,” said Ward. “Sykes was a little bit off point to be honest, I wasn’t impressed with him, but Liam looked a good fighter. I cannot look past Maxi because I am in for a tough night’s work and I have put my body through hell over the last ten weeks for this and I am going to prove I am a legitimate challenger for the title and show that I am ready to take it home with me in the New Year.

“Every other Super Featherweight is going to be watching. If you are a Super Featherweight and there is somebody fighting for the British title or an eliminator, you are going to watch that fight and take interest in it. People in the weight division will be watching and I am going to show them what I am all about.

“I am strong and nice and big for the weight. It was the right move for me and I can make the weight comfortably. In the pro game you have to get every little extra you can and the move to Super Featherweight was definitely the right move for me.

“I am in there mixing it with some great fighters in the gym and in sparring. Sparring is different from fight night but the quality of sparring in the gym, I love it. I enjoy every moment of it and all the hard work is towards fight night and this is the enjoyable part of it.”

Hughes and Ward clash in between the semi-finals and final of the Prizefighter Lightweights III, with yesterday’s draw throwing up a rematch in the top-half while the two favourites are separated in the bottom section.

Danny Connor and Michael Devine met in the same venue in September only for their ten-rounder to be halted prematurely when a clash of heads left Connor with a cut that he couldn’t continue to box with.

They clash in the second quarter-final with the winner then facing either Craig Whyatt or Lee Martin, who kick off the action.

Pre-tournament favourites Gary Buckland and Stephen Foster Jnr could meet in the second semi-final, with Foster taking on Irishman Jono Carroll in the third quarter-final and Prizefighter Super Featherweight champion Buckland facing big-punching Floyd Moore in the fourth quarter-final.

The draw (weights to follow):

Quarter-final 1: Craig Whyatt vs. Lee Martin

Quarter-final 2: Michael Devine vs. Danny Connor

Quarter-final 3: Stephen Foster Jnr. vs. Jono Carroll

Quarter-final 4: Gary Buckland vs. Floyd Moore

The night begins with outings for former British and Commonwealth Light Welterweight champion Ajose Olusegun fighting back in the UK for the first time since 2011, and talented young Lightweight Ohara Davies in his fourth pro fight.

A limited number of £40 tickets for Saturday night’s action are still available from www.matchroomboxing.com.

Fearsome Venezuelan KO Monster Ismael Barroso Back in Action Tonight

One of the hottest prospects in the Greg Cohen Promotions stable, lightweight KO artist Ismael Barroso (15-0-2, 14 KOs) will be back in action tonight (Friday, December 5) at the El Cobertizo de Concordia in Sinaloa, Mexico.

A brain-scrambling southpaw puncher with an aggressive disposition, Barroso, from El Tigre, Venezuela, will face Mexican veteran Maximiliano Galindo in a six-round showdown, presented by Zapari Boxing Promotions.

“We’re keeping Ismael busy, waiting for the right opportunity to unleash him on the boxing world,” said his exclusive promoter, Greg Cohen. “We’re glad Galindo took the fight because there is not a very long list of opponents willing to step in with our guy. My hat is off to him for his bravery.”

31-year-old Barosso has already won the Interim WBA Fedelatin and WBA Fedebol Lightweight Titles and defended them both successfully.

“This kid is going to shake up the lightweight division in the very near future,” continued Cohen. “His fists are like blocks of concrete and they turn all his fights into ‘don’t blink’ type fights. He can literally turn someone’s lights out with a punch that doesn’t even fully land. He’s a scary guy.”

SONYA “THE SCHOLAR” LAMONAKIS FIGHTS FOR HEAVYWEIGHT WORLD TITLE

New York, NY/Philipsburg, Sint Maarten (12/5/14) – Tomorrow, the popular highly ranked female heavyweight contender Sonya “The Scholar” Lamonakis, 9-1-2 (1 KO), will contest for the International Boxing Organization (IBO) female heavyweight world title in what promises to be an exhilarating rematch against rival Carlette “The Truth” Ewell, 15-7-1 (9 KOs), of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The championship bout, scheduled for 10 rounds, will take place on Saturday, December 6, at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium, in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten.

Born in Mytilene, Greece, Lamonakis moved to the US at just four months old and was raised in Turner Falls, Massachusetts. Earning her master’s degree in Elementary Education, Sonya secured a position as a schoolteacher upon her graduation. During this time, she was working out at various gyms learning to box and soon won the New England Golden Gloves tournament in 2004. Moving to New York City the following year, with a job teaching in Brooklyn, Sonya began training at the famed Gleason’s Gym. From 2006-2010, Lamonakis impressively won four consecutive New York Golden Gloves championships as well as two National titles. Turning pro in 2010, Sonya’s relentless brawling style has endeared her to the local fan base, which has continued to grow with each successive fight.

Nine of Sonya’s 12 career bouts thus far have been a part of DiBella Entertainment (DBE) events. On January 21, 2012, the then 6-0 Lamonakis met Ewell for the first time at New York City’s famed Roseland Ballroom on a DBE-promoted Broadway Boxing card. The two battled toe-to-toe for six action-packed rounds, with Sonya landing the harder shots. Though the judges scored the contest a controversial split draw, most observers felt that Lamonakis deserved the victory.

In her last match on March 22, Lamonakis engaged in her fourth encounter with the tough Tiffany Woodard, at Five-Star Banquet Hall, in Long Island City, NY. Earning the eight-round unanimous decision, Lamonakis picked up the New York State female heavyweight championship. With her adopted home state’s title belt now around her waist, Sonya is ready to capture the world title.

“My time is here,” said a determined Lamonakis. “I’m in great shape and ready to bring the belt back to New York City, my family, my friends, and my students.”

“I’ve watched Sonya develop as a professional fighter on my Broadway Boxing series, thrilling large crowds with exciting action each time out,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Her first clash with Ewell was a barnburner, but one that she deserved to win. I’m confident that Sonya will gain revenge and bring home the IBO world female heavyweight championship.”

OSCAR MOLINA RETURNS TO BATTLE TOMORROW NIGHT!!

Sherman Oaks, CA (December 5, 2014) Undefeated junior middleweight prospect OSCAR MOLINA returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, December 6th in a scheduled six round clash with ADRIAN TORRES at the Arena Jose Sulaiman in Monterrey, Mexico.

The 24-year-old Molina, sporting a record of 9-0-0 (7KO’s) and fighting out of Norwalk, California is coming off a six round unanimous decision over Luis Prieto on September 6, 2014. The bout was his first following shoulder surgery in December 2013.

“The plan is to get Oscar back on the busy schedule we started for him,” said TOM BROWN of Goossen Promotions. “Before the surgery in 2013 he had eight fights, winning seven by stoppage and we’re looking ahead to a very strong schedule for 2015.”

Trout, Grajeda Headline ESPN Boxing Special in Honor of Late Boxing Promoter Dan Goossen

Austin_Trout
In honor of the late boxing promoter Dan Goossen, ESPN2 will televise live a three-hour ESPN Boxing Special presented by Corona Extra on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 10 p.m. ET. Goossen, who passed away September 28, was a longtime promoter for ESPN’s boxing coverage. Most notably, Goossen promoted the WBC World Heavyweight Championship between Bermane Stiverne and Chris Arreola televised on ESPN in May. Thursday’s telecast will include a tribute from some of Goossen’s colleagues in the boxing world.

“We wanted to do something special in honor of Dan and we thought of no better way than to put on a great night of boxing just like he had done for so many years on ESPN,” said Brian Kweder, ESPN senior director of programming and acquisitions. “Dan’s contributions to the sport of boxing are well documented, but he was also a joy to work with and be around. I’m hopeful that he has a ringside seat wherever he may be for these fights.”

Headlining Thursday’s card will be a 10-round Jr. Middleweight matchup between former Jr. Middleweight titlist Austin “No Doubt” Trout (27-2, 14 KOs) of New Mexico and Mexico’s Luis Grajeda (17-3-2, 13 KOs). The bout from the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif., will also be televised live on ESPN Deportes’ Noche de Combates presentado por Corona Extra and will be available via WatchESPN. The card is promoted by Goossen Promotions.

Commentators:
Todd Grisham and analyst Teddy Atlas will be ringside describing the action for ESPN2, while Pablo Viruega and analyst Delvin Rodríguez will call the fights for ESPN Deportes. Claudia Trejos and Leopoldo González will anchor the ESPN Deportes studio, while bilingual reporter Bernardo Osuna will present live reports and interviews for both shows.

Main Event:
In his last fight, Trout closed out the ESPN Friday Night Fights season on Aug. 22 with a 10-round unanimous decision win over Daniel Dawson. Grajeda, who also last fought on Friday Night Fights, is looking to get back to his winning ways following a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Willie Nelson.

Undercard:
Thursday’s show will include three fights in addition to the main event. Undefeated 2012 U.S. Olympian “Sir” Marcus Browne (12-0, 9 KOs) of New York, and Maryland’s Henry “Sugar Poo” Buchanan (21-4, 14 KOs) will meet in an eight-round Light Heavyweight contest. Former Light Heavyweight titlist Antonio “Magic Man” Tarver (30-6, 21 KOs) of Florida and former Cruiserweight world title challenger Johnathon Banks (29-2-1, 19 KOs) of Detroit will meet in a 10-round Heavyweight bout. Contenders Oscar “El Guerrero” Escandon (23-1, 16 KOs) of Los Angeles and Tyson “Prince of Hali” Cave (24-2, 8 KOs) of Canada, will square off in a 12-round WBA interim Super Bantamweight title fight.

Kennedy Cunningham Heart Transplant a Success!

At Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, heavyweight contender and former cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham and his wife Livvy were overjoyed this morning to receive the news that their 9 year old daughter Kennedy’s heart transplant surgery was a success.

The fearless Kennedy went into surgery around 3:00am. Kennedy’s pre-surgery comment was, “When the clock says it’s about to be fight time, you need to pack up and go. It’s about to be fight time right now.”

Kennedy has emerged as the champion in this fight! At 7:30am, the surgeon, Dr. Victor Morell reported that the heart was placed and beating. About an hour and a half later Dr Morell confirmed the surgery went well and the risk factors they were concerned with ended up not being issues at all. The Cunningham’s feel incredibly blessed.

Steve and Livvy issued this statement, “We are so happy to share that early this morning our daughter Kennedy received the gift of life. She received her new heart and is doing very well. This day is so very special to us and the promise of a better and longer life for our daughter trumps any victory boxing could ever give us. This is the ultimate championship right here. We would like to thank everyone for their continued prayers and support. And most importantly we send our sincere condolences to the donor family that through their extraordinary selflessness made this day possible for our daughter. We are forever grateful!”

Fight Network Signs Multi-Year Deal with RFA; RFA 21 Airs LIVE Tonight, Friday, Dec. 5 at 10 p.m. ET

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, has signed a multi-year broadcast deal with Resurrection Fighting Alliance to air its existing 20-event catalogue, as well as upcoming live events beginning with RFA 21: Juusola vs. Baghdad tonight, Friday, Dec. 5 at 10 p.m. ET.

Fight Network’s broadcast will air live nationwide in Canada and globally in over 30 countries across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

In the promotion’s return to southern California, two top prospects will vie for the vacant lightweight championship, as the main event pits Minnesota native and collegiate wrestler Zach “The Juice” Juusola against WKBC Muay Thai world champion Mehdi “The Sultan” Baghdad.

The co-main event features two of the bantamweight division’s most talented Brazilian jiu-jitsu experts as Joe Murphy and Bruno Frazatto meet in a high-stakes showdown.

“Zach Juusola vs. Mehdi Baghdad will be a great lightweight title fight,” said RFA president Ed Soares. “They are both hungry, ready, and have the styles to make this a fantastic year-end event in Orange County.”

Juusola (10-2) is excited to step in and fight for the RFA lightweight title, after the opportunity was presented to him when J.J. Ambrose sustained an injury in training. Juusola is a native of Minneapolis, Minnesota and wrestled in college alongside RFA 13 co-headliner Miles Marshall at RCTC in Rochester, Minnesota. In fact, Juusola was originally slated to make his RFA debut on the same card as Marshall in March, but both of his scheduled bouts at the event fell through. Juusola then decided to mix things up with his training and moved out to Las Vegas this past summer. He now calls Xtreme Couture home, where he trains alongside RFA star Boston Salmon and many other top fighters under the esteemed tutelage of Robert Follis.

Baghdad (10-3) is a native of France, but he is known worldwide due to his multicultural appeal and success in MMA and Muay Thai. In 2002, the French fighter moved to Brazil after viewing a PRIDE FC tape featuring Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira and other top fighters from Brazil. The WKBC Muay Thai world champion is now a regular training partner of the legendary Anderson Silva and just finished coaching Team Baghdad on the second season of the hit Arab MMA reality show Al Batal, which is currently airing on FOX Movies in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. In September, Baghdad made an emphatic RFA debut with a brutal first round TKO of Evan DeLong at RFA 18 and looks to keep that momentum going in his world title fight.

The co-main event of RFA 21 will see the highly-anticipated promotional debut of Murphy (7-1), who was born and raised in Orange County and will be making his RFA debut in front of his home crowd. Murphy is a Cleber Luciano protégé that made a name for himself on the national jiu-jitsu and submission grappling circuit. Murphy also excelled in high school wrestling, which has given him a very potent and balanced style of grappling for MMA. These skills have translated into five submission wins in his MMA career. The lone loss on Murphy’s record came with a bit of controversy. After the questionable decision was announced, WSOF president Ray Sefo immediately tweeted, “No disrespect to Carson Beebe but I thought Joe Murphy won that fight!!” Murphy is now eager to shine on the national stage in the co-headliner of RFA 21.

Awaiting Murphy will be Frazatto (6-1), who is a native of Campinas in state of São Paulo, Brazil and a standout member of the world-renowned Atos team in the sport of jiu-jitsu. His accolades include winning the black belt featherweight division at the 2011 IBJJF Pan-American Jiu-Jitsu Championship and 2012 IBJJF European Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship. He was also a silver medalist at the IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in 2008 and competed at ADCC 2011 in Nottingham, England. In August, the 30-year-old’s jiu-jitsu was on full display in his RFA debut, as he made quick work of two-time RFA victor Cory Galloway with a 92-second Triangle Choke at RFA 17. Frazatto is now looking to duplicate that success.

The main card of RFA 21 will also include a heavyweight clash between surging UFC vet Chase Gormley (10-4) and undefeated Power MMA prospect Dale Sopi (6-0). In the middleweight division, BJJ black belt Francisco “Kiko” France (10-3-1) returns to the RFA octagon to face TUF 11 alum and southern California favorite Joseph “Leonidas” Henle (9-1-1). In the featherweight division, Brazilian standout Altair “Tratorzinho” Alencar (7-2) meets undefeated RFA vet “Super” Sam Toomer (8-0). The main card will get started with a middleweight pairing between undefeated Khalil “War Horse” Rountree (1-0) and the debuting Californian Blake Troop (2-1).

Fight Network’s live broadcast kicks off at 10 p.m. ET.

TIMOTHY BRADLEY, Former Two-Division World Champion, Joined by Trainer JOEL DIAZ and Top Rank Vice Preside CARL MORETTI Conference Call Transcript, Thursday, December 3 From Training Camp in Palm Springs, California

Bradley_mediaDay_140403_005a
CARL MORETTI: December 13 will be Tim Bradley’s return to the ring against Diego Chaves who we expect to be 100%. No Visa drama for Diego like the last time for the Brandon Rios fight. Diego has been training for three months and arrives in Las Vegas this weekend. I know Tim is extremely focused on this fight – it’s the most important fight of his career because it’s the next fight in his career. This, along with two other fights that are really intriguing – the WBO middleweight championship fight between Matt Korobov and Andy Lee and the WBA interim super lightweight title battle between defending champion Mauricio Herrera and undefeated Jesse Benavidez Jr. – are both 50/50 fights. So without further ado, the great Tim Bradley, who after this call will be watching his favorite team as well as mine, the Dallas Cowboys, who also need a big win tonight.

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: Hey everybody, first of all I would like to thank God for letting me get back in the ring once again, as well as Top Rank, HBO and Diego Chaves – respect to him for stepping up to the plate. This is my return after getting beat by Manny Pacquiao. I learned a lot from Manny Pacquiao – I learned not to beat myself in the ring and not to be someone that I am not in there. For this fight I am going back to the drawing board, to what got me to the top. My boxing ability, my speed and using my thinking cap in the ring. Diego Chaves is no slouch – he has fought some good guys – Keith Thurman and the rugged Brandon Rios. Brandon Rios is always tough for everybody. I heard he was tough in that fight. I know Chaves is primed and ready to fight me. I am one of the best and he wants to beat me. So I am focused and training camp went really, really well. I have sparred over 150 rounds and I am in tip-top shape. Everyone is wondering if I am on the vegan diet and no I am not on the vegan diet for this fight. I am actually eating fish and eating meat and I feel fantastic. I think it should be better – I think I’ll be better off. I am excited about this opportunity. I am excited to be on HBO Live on December 13 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and it should be a real exciting fight. It’s the best card going on that night.

Do you feel you have more incentive or a sense of urgency to win coming off a loss?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I don’t think about losing. All I think about is winning. A two-fight losing streak does not even enter my mind. The thing is you learn from losing battles. You learn a lot about yourself. And I learned a lot more while losing than I did by winning. I definitely want to get this win, I am going to get this win against a tough guy like Diego Chaves. He fought Rios then went back to the gym four weeks later so he will be in tip-top shape, and hopefully maybe he over trained a little bit, and if so that would work in my favor. I am expecting a tough, tough night against Diego Chaves. He’s not well known in the general public but in the boxing world he is well known. He’s a tough, tough guy.

What is the mindset coming in after a loss as opposed to a victory?

JOEL DIAZ: After the loss, Tim came back to the gym and his main focus was getting the title back and he told me, he said, ‘Coach I am going to be world champion again.’ You don’t see a lot of fighters like that. A lot of fighters, when they come back after a defeat, you don’t see the spark any more. Tim has not lost the spark. I know Diego Chaves. I was there when he fought Keith Thurman. I met him personally there and I was also there when he fought Brandon Rios. He’s not an easy opponent. He’s a tough opponent. He comes to give Timmy a hard night, but we prepare ourselves for the toughest fight. We prepared for this fight like it was the Pacquiao fight and Tim has no doubt in his mind. He’s got his preparation in. Mentally and physically he is focused and we are not even thinking about a loss. We are thinking about finishing the year with a spectacular win.

Are we going to see you box or go in there and slug it out to win?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: If I tell you what I am going to do it is going to give away my game plan and I want to keep that under the radar. I have to think what is the best way to approach this fight. And really think about it. I can box and I can brawl. Diego Chaves fights in the trenches. So I am ready for anything he brings honestly. Ready for anything he brings to the table.

Are you ready for the rough stuff?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: He is a dirty fighter. In the beginning I did think he was but then I went back and watched some film on him and he is a really dirty fighter. Throwing elbows and trying to scrape the eyes, rake the eyes with his gloves. Pushing down on the head. He has a lot of dirty tactics. But guess what? He hates being hit to the body. So when I get close on him I expect the roughhouse tactics. Hopefully we have a great ref in there that is going to take control, warn both fighters and keep control of the action. I am ready for that dirty stuff and I have some dirty tricks of my own and everybody knows what it is, so bring it.

Where does this fight lead you?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: There are a lot of options out there. Many Pacquiao is talking about going back down to 140, so his welterweight title may be vacant and maybe Marquez would want to fight again to get that fifth title.

CARL MORETTI: I had some conversations with Eddie Hearn and Kel Brook if he can’t get the Amir Khan fight put together. Tim ironically won his first title at 140 against a Brit so maybe he will have to fight another to win the title at 147.

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: Maybe even 154!

CARL MORETTI: We will go up but not down.

Regarding the speech you gave at the boxing writers dinner last year regarding the Cold War…

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I think what I said … there was no harm in it. It seemed as though no one else had the balls or decency to say it. Maybe that helped. Maybe everyone thought about it. We were in the same room conversing and buddy, buddy. But behind closed doors we are all slamming everybody and putting everybody down. I thought what I did was great and if it helped in any way that is fantastic. The fact that Top Rank and Golden Boy have put a couple of shows together this year and I’m sure many other shows next year. I think it’s great for the fans and for the sport of boxing. We need to start putting the best fights possible together. The fans are getting tired of it. I don’t know if you see it, but pay-per-view is not what it used to be and the fans are catching on and they are not buying like they used to. Some of the best fighters in the world can’t hit one million buys any more. The best fighters have to fight the best in order to get those numbers. People love boxing and they want to see the best fights. If it helped that’s great and if I pissed anybody off, that’s great too.

CARL MORETTI: I forgot about that speech. He did raise a lot of eyebrows. Ironically he is going to make a good politician when he is done or a good executive because since then a lot of fights have been made and at least there is dialogue, so it’s a good thing.

Do you see a fight against, Khan or Garcia or Maidana in your future?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I really don’t – this is the thing – I take it day-by-day. I live in the present. I don’t live in the future. There are still some bridges that need to be crossed. The Cold War they say is over and we kind of work together, but there are still some bridges that need to be crossed. I would embrace any of those types of fights you just mentioned. Until those things are fixed. I don’t know. I am in a lane and I do what I do and if these guys want to fight I am right here – reach out to my manager, to my wife, to my trainer and to Top Rank. If the fight makes sense then let’s do it.

CARL MORETTI: Not to look ahead, but Tim knows this, we tend to look ahead, but he’s got a fight on his hands on December 13. For Tim and for us that’s all that really matters. December 14 we can start talking about it but up until then it is all about the 13th.

Being there are two events on the 13th, do you feel incentive to be the star of the night?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I fight on the best network there is in boxing, HBO, and I don’t care what those other clowns are doing. I am here and I am going to be faced with a tough opponent and I am sure if all the fans around the world want to see a real fight they are going to tune into Bradley vs. Chaves because they know what they are going to get – they are going to get a fight. They are going to be talking about my fight, of course. I am one of the best fighters in the world so everybody is going to tune in because they want to see what I am going to bring. And they want to see what Chaves is going to bring. Chaves against me is a real fight. Those other fights that are made, they are just fight regular fights. This is a super fight what we are doing at The Cosmopolitan. Our fights are way better.

JOEL DIAZ: Of course. Tim is fighting a very tough opponent, a guy that comes to fight and always puts out the best. The boxing fans know the difference in styles. It is going to be a great night of boxing in Vegas and if they want to come and see Bradley they are going to see a great fight – they are going to see a well-matched fight. Or they can go watch the other fights where they know who is going to win. I think it is going to be a great night where people are talking about Tim Bradley and a great performance.

JOEL DIAZ: Timmy needs to just focus on his job and do his work that we trained for. Stick to his strategy and it shouldn’t be a problem. Get in there, fight smart and win. But knowing Tim, who is stubborn at times, you are going to see a fight. We always prepare for the best but always prepare for the worst. We plan for plan A and plan B. He will box but at some point you are going to see the stubborn Tim Bradley and exchanging and if they spark it up you are going to see a war. That’s the thing about Tim Bradley – he is unpredictable and you don’t know what to expect. The only thing you know is you are going to see a great fight.

How is your mindset coming into the fight after fighting the rematch against Pacquiao?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: The dark cloud has blown over. I am clear-minded and I am happy to be back. I’m happy to be back healthy and happy to be back in front of the fans. I am happy for the opportunity. Opportunities come and you have to be ready for them and this is another opportunity to shine. I am definitely up for it. When I was fighting the Provodnikov fight then the Pacquiao rematch and the fact that we settled it and it’s all over and I am moving on and my goal is to get my title back. Get my title back and win another title in another weight class.

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: My mind is set on Chaves and not thinking about anything else, distractions or negative thoughts that would make me fight a certain way. I like the fact I am clear-headed and going in with a game plan.

Why leave the vegan diet now?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I have a lot of energy on that diet and I am able to lose weight easy on that diet. I enjoy the diet – it is really clean living. I did get injured in numerous fights, especially with Pacquiao, tore my calf muscle. I started doing some research and I thought maybe I didn’t get enough protein because the only protein I consumed was plant-based protein. I needed to find a way to get more protein and the best way is to eat clean meats and fish and my vegetables as well. I am still eating the vegetables but adding a little bit of protein – chicken, fish, and once a week steak to get some B-12 in me so I don’t have to do any injections or anything like that. When I am vegan I have to get injections constantly of B-12 and I was sick of that. I wanted to go more the natural way, the way given to us by God. So I wanted to try it for this fight and see how I feel and I feel fantastic. I have been training three months for this fight and I don’t feel like I have had a low point yet. Sometime when I am vegan I can feel a low point in my training – the energy is always there but I feel like I am tearing down. This camp I enjoyed it and I am going to see how I fight – if it benefits me.

Joel, how will it be working in two venues that night?

JOEL DIAZ: It’s very simple. When you have a stable and a team I believe a person can only handle so much. That’s why you need a strong team and I feel I have a very strong team. When I got the call regarding Victor Ortiz and he is in my camp, we have to make it work one way or another. He knows and is aware that Bradley is my priority. His manager knows I have Bradley that night and he said we can make it work for you – Victor can fight two or three hours earlier than Bradley. I said if that works, I can be there, if not, the other part of my team will be with Victor and I will be with Tim.

How is it training two fighters with different styles at different places in their careers?

JOEL DIAZ: A trainer learns to deal with managing everybody’s situation. I work with different fighters with different strategies in a different way. I know Victor and Tim is like a brother. I know when Tim is not even feeling good. I can tell by the way he is walking in the gym. I am not stressing about it. I am excited to take on the challenge. I am a true believer that everything falls into place. I have my responsibilities but at the same time I always prepare myself. I have my team and Victor has his strength and conditioning coach, who is always there. If I do not make it to Victor’s fight – I put the strategy together, I have been training him and my brother knows exactly what to do, and my brother’s got it. If the timing is not proper for me to be there then I’m not going to be there, I am going to be with Tim.

Have Victor and Time been interacting at camp?

JOEL DIAZ: Well, I know Tim’s schedule and I know that on Thursday he does track and when he does track he does 3½ hours. One day I thought I would bring Victor along and he didn’t know where we were going. Victor needs some mental help. He has a lot of ability in the sport but he needs strengthening in the brain. He didn’t know him so I took him to the track and told him we were going to work today, you’re going to get some real work. And he did. Tim finishes at the track then goes to the gym from there and Victor said he is crazy. That’s why Tim is who he is. So they started to get to know each other and when Victor is slowing down a little, Tim says let’s go.

How is Tim’s calf doing?

JOEL DIAZ: There have been no setbacks. There are experiences in life, both good and bad. In the past we have had a few bad experiences and we learned from the experiences that we had. From that first Pacquiao fight we learned a lot. After the first one I told Tim we have to start going to the gym. He wasn’t walking well and his leg was still hurting and I told him we need to start moving around we have plenty of time to work the leg. And we did. The first week he was hurting and it had been three months that we started training. We started to bring the weight down. We didn’t make the same mistake we made with Provodnikov when he was heavy, even the day of the weigh-in he was having problems making weight for the first time ever in his career so we didn’t want to make that same mistake. So we started really early for two reasons – the weight and his leg. Right now everything is great. He had fun today. He was happy and laughing and having a great time in the gym. Tomorrow we close camp and after tomorrow everything is ready. We rest and take care of the few pounds he has on his back and that’s it. Get ready for the fight. When Tim gets his proper rest, believe me, he’s coming, and someone is going to be in trouble December 13.

How long were you on a vegan diet?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: It’s been since I won the tile in 2009, then I became a vegan and started training vegan. I am not a total vegan. If I wasn’t fighting, I am eating meat. When I am training I switch over to the vegan thing. So I have been doing it for five years. For the Provodnikov fight I was not a vegan and for this fight I am not a vegan. Right now I am not saying I am not going to go back but I am just trying to test the waters.

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I feel like I gain more muscle, but it is a little harder to drop the pounds. I will be weighing about 152 pounds tomorrow. Today I weighed about 153. I am consuming more protein because we care about it more now with strength work and interval training, sparring rounds and getting hit on. My muscles need the protein to be able to repair, along with sleep. You can get the protein while on vegan diet, there are supplements to take.

What is your motivation to fight Chaves?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: Just coming back and getting into the winning column. Diego Chaves is the type of fighter that you have to get up for. You can’t sleep on him and those are the type of fighters I like to fight. I have been in the game for over 10 years now and I like to be inspired when I fight. I want to feel nervous. I like that nervousness, that’s why I like to fight the best. I want to feel nervous and Diego Chaves is one of those guys where I feel nervous. It keeps me sharp and keeps me training hard and it keeps me focused.

Are there any visa issues with Chaves for this fight?

CARL MORETTI: His visa is still good from the last time he fought and his travel has been done. He arrives into Las Vegas on Sunday morning. All of his medicals are done. We will not have to go through that again.

What did you learn from the Pacquiao fight?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I went in there with the mindset that I had to knock this guy out in order to win and having that type of mindset threw me off my game. The plan was to outbox Pacquiao and everybody knew it and Pacquiao himself knew it and I didn’t do that. I went straight at him and attacked him. I did have some success attacking him but I think I could have done a lot better if I took my time and tried to outbox him and if it goes to a decision and I lose then that’s fine. If I stayed true to my form and my abilities and did what got me to the top I should have been alright in that ring and been OK. But I didn’t do that and got a little out of my context of what I do. Like in this fight, I’ve just go to do me. Do what got me to the top and continue to do me from here on out. I can’t worry about judges and worry about decisions, just fight the best fight that I possibly can and win the fight and whatever happens after the fight happens, regardless. I have no control over certain things.

Do you think Mayweather-Pacquiao happens and who wins?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: Do I think the fight will happen? I think the fight should happen. I don’t know if the fight will happen. Right now is the perfect time because after Pacquiao’s fight with Marquez, the fight with Mayweather kind of went down but now Pacquiao is coming off two great wins, actually three great wins, with myself included. I think he has redeemed himself – he beat two undefeated champions this year, myself and Chris Algieri — and Brandon Rios last year Manny is definitely a big threat in the sport still, still a top dog and I think he will be a threat to Mayweather, I honestly do. I think he can clip Mayweather. I think it’s a 50/50 fight and I think it should happen. We have to wait and see if they can put it together. I think it makes sense. I think the fight does over three million pay-per-view pay-per-view buys and it’s the fight that everybody wants to see and I think its great for boxing.

Do you have a final word on your first Pacquiao fight?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I’m glad it’s over. Manny Pacquiao is one true fighter. He is one of the greats and he will be remembered for a long time. He is a living legend and a fantastic person in and out of the ring. He’s a great fighter and much respect to him and his team.

Joel, do you know the timing schedule for both cards on the 13th?

JOE DIAZ: When I was called they told me they were going to make it possible. They were going to have Victor fighting early, about 5 or 6 o’clock.

If you are in the ring with Victor at 4, the start of that show and Tim is not in the ring till close to 9 PT.

JOEL DIAZ: It shouldn’t be a problem then. If that’s the time and schedule then it shouldn’t be a problem. If that’s the time I will try to be there. I would like to be there with Victor. Since he came here and since I have been working with him, he is showing me what I want. He is showing me my style of fighting and that’s what I want to see. I want to see a new Victor. You are going to see a new Victor inside and outside of the ring.

When do you need to know the timing of the fights?

JOEL DIAZ: By the time we get to Vegas I will know. By Wednesday I will have all of that information.

Tim, how do you feel about Joel being over there for a couple hours?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I am a big boy. I got this, man, no problem. As long as my trainer is back in time to be in my corner and to guide me, I’m good.

Were the two of you in the ring together?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: No, I have my own gym and Victor has his own schedule. We keep out schedules separate but I was able to talk to Victor. He’s a very nice kid, very humble. I learned a lot just from talking to him and he learned a lot from me. We are just trying to help each other. It doesn’t matter that we are in the same weight class, it doesn’t really matter. We are a team now and if he remains part of the team I will never fight Victor Ortiz.

How do you get ready to fight a guy like Chaves who doesn’t even think he is doing anything wrong?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: In training camp we work on things, intangibles that a lot of other fighters don’t even work on. We prepare for every aspect of what the other fighter is bringing. We know he is dirty and we have prepared ourselves for the dirty tactics and the things that he likes to do, we have stuff to alter that. We know what he likes to do – wrap around, scrape the eyes, hit with the elbows – we are ready for all of that. I am ready to alter that and hopefully we have a really good referee in there to take care of the action and to speak to both fighters before we get in there and control the action early on. So then Chaves won’t have the opportunity to get dirty.

Joel will you have to spend a lot of time with the referee to make sure it doesn’t get out of hand?

JOEL DIAZ: We are going to bring it up to the referee. Obviously that is a concern. Chaves has a pattern from the last fight but at the same time, if you look at it, it could work against us or it could work in our favor. This is his third opportunity coming to the United States for a big fight and everybody knows he is a dirty fighter. He might come back with a different mentality, we don’t know but we’ve got to be ready for it. Of course I am going to bring it up to the referee and I’m going to be very aware. In the corner I am going to be very aggressive, not only with the fighters but with the referee. If I see anything that is not right for my fighter, I am always going to be on the ref, every round.

Have you fought a dirty fighter before?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: I really haven’t fought guys that were extremely dirty. I have as an amateur. I have been in the ring sparring with guys that are really dirty. I just keep my composure most of the time. Bring it up to the referee and let him know what he’s doing. If I react, the referee is going to see the retaliation and then he is going to warn me. As long as I stay relaxed and bring awareness to the referee that he is doing this and doing that and as long as he doesn’t get too rough in there so that I don’t have to refrain from doing what I do. I am an eye for an eye type of guy man, and if the referee isn’t doing his job the I have to do my thing. Just like I tell all of the athletes that I work with in football – protect yourself – learn to protect yourself. Diego Chaves isn’t going to like it when I come back at him. I am just going to say that right here, right now. The referee better be a good referee and he better be in control of the match.

On Saturday you are being inducted into The Palm Springs Walk of Stars?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: That is crazy. I was born at a hospital, which is not even a mile away from the spot where I am actually going to be inducted into the Walk of Stars of Palm Springs. I am getting a Golden Palm Star in my name as a humanitarian as well as a professional fighter. It’s amazing and it’s unbelievable. I can’t believe it. Palm Springs is an historic city, very historic. We have a big statue of Marylyn Monroe that just came through that brought many tourists from around the world and they come into Palm Springs because of the great weather in the wintertime and I’m going to be a part of that. They are going to be actually walking on Tim Bradley.

Are there other stars there that catch your eye?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: Suzanne Summers, Sonny Bono, Marylyn Monroe – those are the names that I can recall, but it’s huge. It’s a huge deal for me. I’ll be the 377th Star on the Walk. Every Thursday I walk down there and look at the stars and think one day I can do good and do good for the community and earn the respect from all of the people and maybe one day. I was born and raised in North Palm Springs and coming from that type of area and that type of environment is unbelievable. I have a brother and a dad and I am down there with all of those super wealthy people. I am like, ‘You sure you want to put me down there with those people?’

Is Joel next?

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: Yes, you see Joel has many more years to accomplish that but for me it’s a short time. Boxing is very short, so I am happy that I got in now. Once my boxing career is over Joel will still be relevant and training many fighters and future world champions,

JOEL DIAZ: My star will be right there where they have Marylyn Monroe’s.

In Closing…

CARL MORETTI: We are all good and really looking forward to next Saturday night. Thanks to HBO, Tecate and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. We have three really intriguing fights that are going to lead to bigger fights in 2015, but they’ve got to win them and that we will find out next Saturday.

JOEL DIAZ: Most of all I want to thank Top Rank and all you guys that make it possible for us to a part of this event – HBO and The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and Tim who gives me headaches at times but make is all possible. It’s great being here and being part of this great moment and having Timothy back in the ring again before the end of the year. So we will be great for the holidays and enjoy our families.

TIMOTHY BRADLEY: Joel, you sound like my wife saying I give you headaches, and that’s what I’m supposed to do. It’s part of the business. Thanks to The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and thanks to Top Rank and HBO. I want to thank Diego Chaves and his team for taking this fight. I’m looking forward to a great night of boxing on the 13th. I can’t wait to get back in the ring – a lot of people have been waiting on me to get back. I’m excited to get back so tune in to HBO, LIVE, to watch a real fight – Timothy Bradley versus Diego Chaves.

GH3 Fighter’s Douglas, Odom, Thompson & Dezurn on the move

Nutley, NJ (December 4, 2014)–Over the next couple weeks, Vito Mielnicki’s GH3 Promotions will be one of the most active promotions in boxing as some of the companies cornerstone fighters will be in action.

Starting this Saturday in Springfield, Virginia, undefeated Super Middleweight, Jerry Odom (12-0, 11 KO’s) of Bowie, MD will take on upset minded Edgar Perez (6-12, 3 KO’s) of Chicago, Jr. Middleweight John Thompson (14-1, 5 KO’s) of Newark, NJ makes his return to the ring when he takes on Daniel Craycraft (14-20-4, 2 KO’s) of Chesire, OH. On the same card that is promoted by Tony Jeter Promotions, Featherweight Glen Dezurn Jr. (5-0, 3 KO’s) of Baltimore, MD. will take on Ronald McGriff in a four round bout.

Undefeated Middleweight Antoine Douglas (16-0-1, 10 KO’s) of Burke, VA is looking to get back in the ring sometime later this month or at the very beginning of 2015.

“We are finishing up the year in strong fashion,” Said GH3 Promotions CEO Vito Mienicki.

“We have some big plans for all of our guys. It’s great to get Thompson back in the ring after nearly a year off. Hopefully he looks good on Saturday and then we have another tuneup fight ready for him in January. We have a great opportunity lined up for him in February as well.”

“Jerry and Antoine are ready to make that jump from prospects to contenders and by the end of 2015, we expect them to be fighting for in big fights.”

“As for Dezurn, we are ready to put him on the same path that we set for for Jerry and Antoine a couple years ago and that is to keep him extremely busy. I want Glenn to have 8 fights this year and that will put him where Jerry and Antoine are now.

“ROYAL BATTLE: KHAN VS. ALEXANDER” UNDERCARD MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT & MP3

Kelly Swanson
Thanks everybody for calling in. This is really a great conference call. I’m excited that two of the fighters calling in are calling all the way from Italy. So, I think that’s something different for us and it’s exciting.

But before we get to this call, I just wanted to make some announcements. This is the undercard conference call for December 13 fight card headlined by Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander. The fighters that you’re talking today will be on the televised portion of the show.

Just to let everybody know, fight week is coming next week and we’re going to kick if off on Monday with the main event conference call. At 11 a.m. PT, we will have Devon Alexander and Amir Khan available for a media conference call. That’s on Monday, December 8.

Then on Wednesday, December 10, media activities start at MGM Grand with the grand arrivals and workouts of all of the televised fighters. That’s at 1 p.m. Then Thursday, the press conference will take place at 11:30 a.m. These are all Pacific Time and Friday we will have the weigh in at 1 p.m. and that’s open to the public.

As I mentioned, today on the phone, we’re going to have Keith Thurman, Leonard Bundu, Abner Mares, Jose Ramirez, Jermall Charlo and also Lenny Bottai. We’re going to start with Jermall and Lenny and to make those introductions we have Alessandro Favorini on the call as the agent for both Bundu and Bottai and he will also serve as our translator. Thank you very much for that.

Now, I’m going to turn the call over to Eric Gomez to make the introductions and then talk a little bit more about the show.

Eric Gomez
Thank you, Kelly, I’m very excited about this card. Obviously, four world-class bouts televised on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING®. We’re very happy to be back at MGM Grand. We have a couple of fighters from Italy and we have Jose Ramirez from Mexico; so, this is going to be great.

So without further ado, I want to introduce to you calling all the way from Italy Lenny Bottai to say a few words. Lenny.

Lenny Bottai
Hello everybody, I’m excited about coming to Las Vegas to fight at MGM Grand, which is kind of a temple of boxing and I’m also excited to fight for a world title. It’s basically my chance to be in the limelight of worldwide boxing. So, I really look forward to being there.

E. Gomez
Thank you. Now, I want to introduce Jermall Charlo out of Houston, Texas. He’s 19-0, 15 KOs, only 24-years-old, and one of the hottest fighters in boxing. Obviously, he had a little bit of bad luck. He was supposed to fight for the title earlier this year. That didn’t happen, but he is going to get a chance to fight an eliminator that potentially gets him to a world title fight. So, I want to introduce Jermall Charlo to say a few words. Jermall.

Jermall Charlo
I just wanted to say I’m just real proud to be back in MGM and fighting on the main stage again. Obviously there was a minor setback, it is really due for a major come up. So, I’m really excited to be fighting a guy from Italy who’s going to give me his all and put me in the obvious No. 1 spot.

E. Gomez
Great. Thank you, Jermall. So with that, we’re going to open it up to questions. We’re going to open it up to the media to ask both guys about the fight.

Q
Jermall, can you tell us your perception of what Bottai brings to the table? What is his fighting style and how do you expect to beat him?

J. Charlo
Well, from what I know, what Ronnie Shields has told me — he’s a brawler. He’s going to come out with a lot of punches. He starts very early. He has very good defense. I mean he’s an ‘A fighter.’ He’s been in the game for a while, and I’m just looking for like, for a hard fight, a hard 12 rounds. The winner of me and Lenny’s fight gets a shot at Cornelius Bundrage.

Q
Lenny, this is his first fight on American soil. How are you preparing for that opportunity?

L. Bottai
I see two main issues. The first one is the physical side, how to handle nine hours difference in time zones, and this kind of bothers me.

The mental part, the judges, the atmosphere, the big stage is not bothering me at all. On the other hand, it excites me. I know that it can be a big boost for my career. I know I have nothing to lose; I have more to gain and less to lose than my opponent, Charlo. So, I’m mentally ready. I’m just a little bit worried about the time zones because this is a thing which I’ve never experienced before, nine hours.

Q
How will you account for that time zone? Are you going to arrive earlier?

L. Bottai
I’m arriving December the 6, seven days before the fight.

Q
Jermall, how have you and your brother handled the lost opportunities? Then are you kind of each kind of building each other up? How did you digest that and bounce back, and how do you use this to bounce back?

J. Charlo
It’s pretty comical. Me and Jermell, both facing a little bit of adversity early on in our careers. So, we just kind of say it’s the way of God — it’s God’s plan. It’s the way God wants it to be. I really was supposed to have the IBF (title fight) right now, but I’m not looking at that anymore. I’m looking at the eliminator bout.

And Lenny thinks that he and I have more to lose than he does, but that’s not the case ’cause I’m younger and right now, I can’t take any more setbacks than I have already taken. So, I’m just really ready and I’m just preparing myself for the worst.

Q
How did your experience help your brother? Were you able to look at him and say, “Hey, look, man, I’ve been through this” because I know you guys are very, very close and the likelihood of something like that happening to two people, let alone two twins is very unlikely.

J. Charlo
Well, if my brother caught a cold, usually, a week or two later I would catch it too. So, it’s kind of like, what we’ve been going through all of our lives. So, we looked at each other and grinned and were like, ‘Look, it’s going to happen sooner or later. So, it is what it is.’ We just have to face the facts, and I told my brother the same thing he told me and we get the idea that sooner or later we’re going to get our chance to shine for the rest of the world, and now it’s my time.

Q
Could you describe your fighting style? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are you bringing to the table and what will we be seeing on Dec. 13?

L. Bottai
Boxing is kind of a situational sport. You have to do what it takes to win. Adjust to the moment. Adjust to the situation. If you just stick to your game plan, you risk, in case it doesn’t work, to be messed up. I want to keep my options open and to fight the best way that allows me to fight Charlo.
Q
Jermall, can you just describe the emotion of having this presented to you, but also knowing that it was because your brother wasn’t getting the opportunity?

J. Charlo
Yeah, I mean Jermell and I both looked at each other and was just like, ‘You’re jealous of me now, you know?’ We never experienced anything like this before and we’re just trading places. As a matter of fact, the fans that were tuned into watch the Jermell and Andrade’s fight tuned in to watch me and Lenny fight. So, we’re just trading places. We’ve both been working hard in the gym and we’ve both been giving it our all. So, I mean it didn’t matter. It didn’t matter which place we’ve got in. We’re just going to be there for the fight.

I’m actually a little bit more happy than he is because I’m on the SHOWTIME part of it, but I’m even more happier that my brother gets a chance to outperform me and then get dressed to come and cheer me and watch my fight.

E. Gomez
Thank you very much. Next up, is Jose Ramirez, he is out of Mexico with a record of 25-4, 15 KOs. He’s one of the top featherweights out there. He obviously has a great opportunity in fighting Abner Mares. So, I want him to say a few words, Jose Ramirez.

Jose Ramirez
I want to thank everyone for this call, for this opportunity. I’m ready. I’m going to be fighting Abner Mares on December 13 and I’m ready to give it all in the ring. I’m ready to leave everything on the line. I’m coming off a loss with Lomachenko, but I believe that loss is what taught me and strengthened me and is going to give me the experience coming up in this next fight.

E. Gomez
Thank you. Muchas gracias, Jose. Now, to introduce Abner. He’s a former three-time world champion, three divisions with a record of 27-1 and 1 with 14 KOs, Abner Mares.

A. Mares
Hey, how are you guys doing? First of all, I’m really excited about the fact on December 13 on such a big card and at such a big venue such in Las Vegas, Nev. That I’ll let people know that Abner Mares is still here, still fighting and coming back with a bang.

E. Gomez
Thank you very much Abner. Kelly, can we open it up?

K. Swanson
Yes, go ahead. Operator, go ahead and open up for questions.

Q
My first question is for Jose. You haven’t been in the ring since the Lomachenko fight, and having observed Abner, how would you compare them as fighters? Abner seems to be a little bit more — just as diverse and maybe a little bit more — definitely a little bit more experienced.

J. Ramirez
Well, first of all, I want to make clear that, yes, even though I haven’t fought in a little more than a year since the Lomachenko fight, I haven’t stopped training. I’ve been in the gym, staying ready, knowing that this type of opportunity would come by. To answer your question, as far as the differences, well, first of all, Lomachenko’s a southpaw and a little taller, and you know what? I’m ready. I’m hoping to adapt to Abner’s style and give a great performance, a great fight come fight night.

Q
Abner, what did you take away from when Ramirez fought Lomachenko? Lomachenko was taking a huge step up because that was a guy who has been around for a while. What did you take away from Jose’s performance, and you personally having been someone who had been out of the ring for quite a while, what do you think he’s having to overcome in stepping in against you that you can take advantage of?

A. Mares
Well, I think it’s pretty much obvious that the loss has not affected him whatsoever because he lost against a great fighter in Lomachenko. The only thing I can take away from it is pretty much him knowing that I’m just like Lomachenko as far as experience. But, I can’t really compare them. I can’t really say too much because, again, he fought a southpaw. Lomachenko’s a southpaw. All I can say is he’s ready for me and I’m ready for him. And my year starts now. That’s all I can say.

Q
Abner, obviously, there’s been a lot of talk of a potential fight between yourself and Leo Santa Cruz. You said your year starts now, but you also referenced that people still look at the Gonzales fight as something you want to put behind you. Is it difficult to focus on this fight and this fight only considering how badly you want to fight someone like Leo Santa Cruz?

A. Mares
No, it’s not difficult at all because there is no paper signed. I mean there’s just speculation; there’s talks like any other fight. So, my concentration and my focus right now is against Jose Ramirez, no one else and if the fight were to happen later on in the year, let’s do it. But right now, my focus is on Jose Ramirez and no one else.

Q
Abner, how do you think the fans have changed, if they’ve changed with you since the Jhonny Gonzalez fight? Has there been any change, or how do you feel about it?

A. Mares
Well, it’s a tough crowd out there; I’ll tell you that much. It’s a tough crowd/fan base to keep happy. But at the end of the day, as long as I’m happy, my family is, I’m going to continue with my career.I think the fans right now are a little bit upset because of the win, I’m sorry, the loss, and I didn’t get the rematch, but that rematch will come in time. That’s all I have to say.

Q
You’ve gone back to Clemente Medina, your former trainer. Have you picked up and gone back to the Abner Mares that became the three-division world champion and the youngest in the history of Mexico?

A. Mares
You know what? Yeah. There’s something that I have to look for and that was my flow. I lost my flow a little bit, and I found it. It’s back. Coming back with my family. Picking up my trainer, Clemente Medina and my whole team. There’s nothing like being at home and I will demonstrate that in this next fight. I will demonstrate that Abner Mares is back.

I was watching a fight this past weekend and there was a lot of mention of the featherweight division. Obviously, I’m not mentioned because I’m not a world champion, but that itself inspires me and motivates me. That’s the word I’m looking for; motivates me a lot because I’ve been at this level and I will be back.

Q
Jose, is it true that you have nothing to lose and everything to win, or do you lose something if you don’t win the fight with Abner?

J. Ramirez
Yes, of course. I mean I have everything to gain, everything to win. Abner Mares is a great fighter, a great champion. My biggest achievement has been going to the Philippines and beating the local “Boom Boom” Bautista and come December 13 there’ll be no exception. I mean I’m going in there to give my soul. I’m giving the best. I don’t know what’s going to happen. God willing, both of us come out unharmed, but I can tell you that I’m going to go in there and give it my best, and I’m grateful to Abner for the opportunity.

A. Mares
I would like to close it by thanking Jose Ramirez for taking this fight, thanking Golden Boy Promotions, SHOWTIME for giving me the opportunity to end my year and to get more income for my kids for Christmas. Thank you, guys, so much and God bless you all and thank you.

J. Ramirez
Yes, I want to thank everybody for this opportunity. I mean Golden Boy, Abner Mares also for the opportunity and to let everybody know December 13 I’m ready to give a great spectacular showing. Thank you very much.

K. Swanson
Okay. Muchas gracias and now we’re going to move on and we are ready with Keith Thurman and Leonard Bundu. So, I’m going to turn it back over to Eric Gomez to make these introductions and then we will let you guys talk to the media.

E. Gomez
Great. Thank you. I want to introduce Leonard “The Lion” Bundu with a record of 31-0-2 and 11 KOs. Bundu represented Italy in the 2000 Olympic Games. He’s making his United States debut and SHOWTIME debut. He is the current European and Commonwealth Champion, and he’s also highly ranked – No. 3 in the WBC, No. 4 in the WBA and IBF. So, let’s give him a warm welcome and have him say a few words. Leonard, can you say a few words please?

Leonard Bundu
All right. Thank you very much. I’m really happy to be here and I’m really happy to have the chance to compete where every boxer wants to compete and I’m ready to put on a good show and thank everybody organizing this and Keith Thurman too for giving me the opportunity. We box over in Europe too. We do some good boxing. So, I’m ready for December 13. Thank you very much.

E. Gomez
Great. Thank you. Thank you very much. Now, the interim WBA Welterweight World Champion, Keith “One Time” Thurman with a record of 23-0, 21 KOs. He’s one of the most exciting fighters, biggest punchers in boxing today and in his spare time, he wrestles alligators down in Florida. Keith, can you say a few words?
Keith Thurman
Thank you, everybody who’s on this call. It’s my pleasure to be here. I’m truly looking forward to getting back in the ring December 13. I look forward to the challenge that Bundu is offering as an Olympian, as a European boxer, as a guy who switches.

It’s a great fight; two undefeated fighters going up against each other. It’s been a while since I’ve been back in the ring, and I’m eager to perform back under the bright lights.

Q
Keith, why have you only fought once this year, and are we going to see you more busy next year?

K. Thurman
Yes, boxing is boxing. You never know what you’re going to get. This year, my body did not allow me to fight three times as we planned. I had to do a layoff in camp. My left shoulder wasn’t feeling great. I went through six weeks of physical therapy and then we continued to do the advice that the doctor said.

It’s feeling great. You guys know how much I love to throw that left hook of mine, and I’m just really looking forward to getting back. I’m a little disappointed. I had to brush off some of the dust, but December 13 we’re back in action and I’m excited.

Q
Leonard, what comes to mind when you think of fighting on American soil for the first time as far as you’re concerned — the judges, the atmosphere, and how do you plan to deal with the time difference? Will you arrive early?

L. Bundu
Yes. Well, I’m very excited to fight on American soil of course and for the time difference, I’m leaving tomorrow. I’ll be arriving tomorrow evening. So, we have about 10 days to adapt.

And for the experience, I didn’t fight, but I was at the Mayweather-Maidana II fight, at MGM Grand. I saw what it was like being there and I know I was a spectator, but I always know what I’m going to get. And then plus, I’ve already fought outside of Italy. I’ve fought in Germany. I fought in England twice, which is a big show. So, I kind of know what I’m going to. I’m very excited and I know I’m going to put on a good show.

Q
Leonard, you just celebrated your 40th birthday which is — that means you’re getting up there. What can you tell your fans or spectators about your age?

L. Bundu
I know I’m going against a very tough fighter, a very good fighter, but the problem is that I actually don’t have any problem with my age. I feel just as fit, maybe even better than I was 10 years ago. I’m really getting better and better with each of my fights. So, for me, I mean I’ve been reading all the stories that Keith Thurman is going to fight this 40-year-old guy. But to me, it’s not me. That 40-year-old guy is not me. I already said before I feel as young as he is. I mean I still do my things. I don’t think like an old person. I mean I have wife, my wife and kids, but I still go to the gym every day. I feel fit and I’m prepared. I know it’s going to be tough, maybe my toughest fight, but I’m ready to go, to give it all.

Q
Leonard, do you see this as a brawl or a boxing match, or a little bit of both?

L. Bundu
Well, given Keith’s power, I have to adapt. I have to use my intelligence, my tactics. I have experience. I box pretty well. I’m a very instinctive guy. So, I don’t like planning fights too much. When I get in the ring, I adapt. So of course, I’m not going to trade punches with him, but I’ll adapt. I’ll put on a good show for sure.

Q
You’re also fighting on the same night as Tim Bradley and Chaves; Chaves being the guy, who you beat. Does that raise the stakes for you? Do you really feel good about the opportunity that fans can see all of you guys performing on the same night and compare and contrast?

K. Thurman
Yeah. When you’ve got that many welterweights performing the same night there’s going to be a lot of talk. Twitter and all the social media are going to go crazy around midnight, and I’m looking forward to it. I’m just really happy to be getting back in the ring. I’m really happy to showcase my skills and my talent once again. I’m extremely excited to be going up against an undefeated fighter who was an Olympian, who presents a European style.

We’ve seen the skills that Kell Brook brought to the table when he fought Shawn Porter, and it’s interesting, man. A lot of people in the U.S. don’t know Bundu, but we know that the Europeans can box. And for him to be an Olympian, you heard him, he doesn’t feel 40. Age is just a number to him. His last fight, he fought a young man who was 28-years-old and fought him in his hometown and beat him.

He is a smart boxer, an intelligent fighter, and it’s going to be a great fight. Overall I do put in my head, in the back of my mind that not only do I want to win, but I would like to outperform every welterweight that steps in the ring that night.

Q
Keith, have you thought about what’s next, or are you just focusing on the task as hand? You have a lot of people that see a great future ahead for you. So, are you focusing on the task at hand, or are you also looking ahead?

K. Thurman
A great future is great, but you must focus on the present because without focusing on the present, you will never get to the future. The time is now. The bout is December 13, Leonard Bundu. I’m 26-years-old and I learn from every experience, and I’m truly looking forward to the challenges that we may present that night, overcoming those challenges, walking away with the victory, and moving on in my career. But first, we must perform great come December 13.

Q
Leonard, have you thought about what’s next, or are you just focused on what’s in front of you?

L. Bundu
Well, just like Keith said, I take it one step at a time. In this fight, of course, I’m the underdog. Everybody is looking at me as a lamb to be slaughtered, but I’m coming to try and win. I’m coming for respect because a lot of people don’t give me the respect I deserve. I’m coming to show people that I’m a top welterweight and I’m going to give it all I have and I really appreciate Keith’s words, that he knows that, we really box over here in Europe too.

We already have some European champions that became world champions. I’m just looking one step at a time of course and then after that, I’ll be ready to fight anybody else. But as far as now, I’m looking at December 13th and that I’m going to give it all I have.

K. Swanson
Okay. That’s it, guys. That’s the last question for this group. Eric, if you want to wrap it up and say good-bye and any last comments from Leonard Bundu and Keith Thurman would be appreciated and then we’ll hang up.

L. Bundu
I want to thank everybody. I want to thank Golden Boy Promotions, SHOWTIME, Al Haymon for giving me this opportunity. I want to thank Keith for accepting me to fight and I really look forward to putting on a good show on December 13. Thank you, all, very much.

K. Thurman
Yes, thank you, everybody that have tuned into this. Thank you, Golden Boy, SHOWTIME, Al Haymon. This is a terrific card. I’m happy to be back in the ring. I’m happy to be the co-main event.

Thank you, Bundu. I’m looking forward to a terrific performance, a great clean fight. Best of luck to everybody. I’ll see you December 13.

E. Gomez
Once again, Saturday, December 13th at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. I want to thank SHOWTIME. I want to thank the sponsors involved: Corona Extra, AT&T; Mexico, Live it/Believe it, also the MGM for hosting us. Once again, tickets are on sale. Tickets are going great. Tickets are priced from $50 all the way to $300 for ringside. Thank you, guys, and I’ll see you there.

ESPN Films Debuts 30 for 30 Shorts: “Robbed” from Emmy Award-winning director Eric Drath

The latest film in the 30 for 30 Shorts series, from Emmy Award-winning director Eric Drath, has debuted on Grantland.com.

“Robbed” delves into the 1976 Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton fight inside the ring at Yankee Stadium. The conclusion of this fight would go down as one of the most controversial decisions in the sport of boxing. But this fight, which should have been remembered for what happened inside the ring, was tainted by gang activity and theft in the wake of the NYPD strike happening just outside the stadium’s doors. This short reveals a little-known story of the chaos taking place behind the scenes, recanted by legendary boxing promoter Bob Arum.

Fight Network Presents Golden Boy LIVE: Sanchez vs. Paredes Tonight, Thursday, Dec. 4 at 10 p.m. ET

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, presents its final 2014 edition of Golden Boy Live! tonight, Thursday, Dec. 4 at 10 p.m. ET, featuring Fairfield standout Alan Sanchez against veteran contender Ed “The Lion” Paredes in the 10-round welterweight main event from Del Mar Fairgrounds – Bing Crosby Hall in Del Mar, Calif.

Fight Network’s broadcast will air live exclusively in Canada.

In the 10-round junior featherweight co-main event, Sanchez’ fellow Fairfield contender Manuel “Tino” Avila will be facing Jose Luis Araiza, plus Australian lightweight standout “Wild” Will Tomlinson battles Miguel Zamudio in the eight-round televised opener.

“December 4th will be a great night of boxing in Del Mar with a main event featuring two skilled fighters – Sanchez and Parades – who both have a lot on the line,” said Oscar De La Hoya, founder and president of Golden Boy Promotions. “In the co-main event, Tino Avila stands at an exciting point in his career — when each successive victory could bring him closer and closer to a potential title shot. But with each step comes more dangerous challenges for him and by going up against a seasoned opponent who has stood in the ring and ably competed with the very best, Tino will need to dig deep to keep marching ahead.”

Winner of nine of his last 10 bouts, with his only loss in that stretch coming via decision to former world champion Luis Collazo in 2013, 23-year-old Alan Sanchez (14-3-1, 8 KOs) has been thrilling fans for years. Fresh off of back-to-back knockouts of Jorge Silva and Jose Luis Ramirez Jr. in 2014, Sanchez can make a statement with a third straight knockout victory when he faces Paredes.

Fighting out of Hollywood, FL, Ed Paredes (35-4-1, 23 KOs) has the power and experience to make it a rough night for anyone he steps into the ring with. Unbeaten in 15 of his last 16 bouts, the 29-year-old veteran believes that the best is yet to come for him; all he needs to do is show the world by beating Sanchez in a highly-anticipated matchup.

Steadily moving toward the top 10 at 122 pounds, top prospect Manuel Avila (16-0, 7 KOs) has picked up the pace in 2014, defeating Enrique Quevedo, David De La Mora and Sergio Frias this year. Now hoping to close out the year with another big win that will carry him into a 2015 campaign that he expects will lead him to a world title shot, the 22-year-old has the motivation to put on a career-best performance on December 4.

Winner of two of his last three bouts, veteran pugilist Jose Luis Araiza (31-9-1, 22 KOs) hopes to recover from a loss in September to Rau’shee Warren when he faces Avila in December. The former top prospect will enter the ring at Del Mar Fairgrounds – Bing Crosby Hall hoping to hand Avila his first professional loss.

Fighting out of Melbourne, Australia, 28-year-old “Wild” Will Tomlinson (22-1-1, 12 KOs) won several regional titles down under and was racing toward a world title shot before an upset loss to Jerry Belmontes in March. Tomlinson wasn’t deterred from his path though and in August he bounced back with a victory over Alberto Cupido that put him on the road to the top once more.

The Dec. 4 edition of Golden Boy Live! is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and the Fight Network broadcast airs live at 10 p.m. ET.

The 27-year-old heavy handed southpaw Cuellar has won eight in a row, including victories over two former world champions this year: a brutal second round knockout of Juan Manuel Lopez on Sept. 11 and a dominant 12-round decision over Rico Ramos on May 2.

Cuellar is also world ranked No. 9 at 126 pounds by ESPN.com and Ring Magazine.

Also fighting out of the southpaw stance, Tamayo is a battle-tested veteran that has faced a handful of tough Mexican opponents in seven-year professional career. Most recently, Tamayo, who will be making his U.S. debut, shined with an eight round decision over Southern California’s Efrain Esquivias on April 25, 2014.

The 24-year-old Williams, thought by many to be a future world champion, will be making the fourth start of his 2014 campaign. A professional for only four years, the Philadelphia prospect already has numerous notable names on his ledger including Joachim Alcine, Michael Medina, Freddy Hernandez and Hugo Centeno Jr.

He returns to action following his career-best win over fellow undefeated prospect Eliezer Gonzalez on Sept. 11 in Las Vegas.

Upset minded Ortega will be looking to derail Williams and get back in the win column following a 10 bout win streak which was broken by Pablo Munguia on Oct. 17 in a hard-fought 10-rounder.

A 2008 Olympian and son of former world champion Julian Jackson, the 27-year-old puts his undefeated record on the line against Nelson. Jackson, who most recently stopped Crispulo Javier Andino in the second round on Aug. 1 in Cordoba, Argentina, has knocked out eight consecutive opponents.

Follow the first loss of his pro career to Brandon Gonzalez in November 2013,
28-year-old Nelson bounced back with a third round knockout of veteran Jonathan Corn on March 15 of this year.

Since suffering his only loss to Brandon Rios in a world title eliminator in 2010, the 29-year-old Peterson, of Washington, D.C., has won four in a row including a first round knockout of Edgar Riovalle on Aug. 9 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Also 29-years-old, Amidu is a native of the boxing rich country of Ghana and has been campaigning as a lightweight and junior welterweight for the last seven years. He has faced veterans Ricky Burns, Ali Funeka and Ji-Hoon Kim.

In July of 2013, Amidu fought to 12-round draw with former world title challenger Juan Carlos Burgos.

DAVID LEMIEUX VS. GABRIEL ROSADO” FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

davidlemieux
DAVID LEMIEUX, NABF Middleweight Champion

“It’s good to be back in Brooklyn. I’m very excited. This is a great opportunity for both of us fighters.

“I expect the best Gabriel Rosado when I get in the ring with him. I’m not worried because it’s going to be the best of Lemieux.

“This is a big opportunity to be headlining on HBO. I’m not going to miss my shot. I’m going to leave everything in the ring and I will not leave disappointed.

“We’ve been working on a lot of things the last few years and now we’re getting to where we want to be. This is the best camp I’ve had in my career.

“I’m here from Montreal and I’m here to represent and give you guys the best show and a great night of boxing before the holidays.”

GABRIEL ROSADO, Middleweight Contender

“There’s something different about coming from Philly. Any man who steps into the ring is brave, but something about Philly fighters, we’re willing to die in the ring.

“I had a great training camp, I have a tremendous team. We worked on a lot of different things. We’re coming off the Bryan Vera knockout so I really feel like I have the momentum.

“Lemieux is a strong guy who is hungry, but I know this is my opportunity and this is my time.

“Having been in every situation, I know what I need to do. I can’t blame the politics, I just looked into myself and made myself more focused and more disciplined. I’m extremely happy about this opportunity to put on a great show.

“I always thank the fans because I’m only relevant because of fans. The fans have always showed love and always showed up. On Saturday I’m going to give the fans my all so they know I appreciate them.

“By the end of Saturday, I wont be that tough journeyman, I’ll be a star.”

HUGO CENTENO JR., Undefeated Middleweight Contender

“I had a great training camp. It was eight tough weeks. I started training with Gennady Golovkin to prepare him for his fight. I’ve trained extremely hard and have no excuses. Come Saturday night, I’ll be ready.

“I talk with my fists so James can say what he wants. It’s easy to talk before you get hit in the face.”

JAMES DE LA ROSA, Middleweight Contender

“I hope on December 6 Hugo is ready to fight and doesn’t get any little abrasions. I don’t want him to have to tell the doctor he can’t see.

“I hope he’s ready to fight Saturday night because it’s on.”

THOMAS DULORME, Junior Welterweight Prospect

“I’m very happy to be here. I feel like I’m at home here in Brooklyn with all the support that I get here.

“This was a tough camp, It was a good camp. I’m ready to go and I’m ready for Hank.

“I’m not a big talker, so I’ll let Hank talk all he wants. On Dec. 6 at Barclays Center I’ll do my talking in the ring.

“This is going to be a great fight, get your seat ready here or at home and get ready for a great fight.”

HANK LUNDY, Junior Welterweight Prospect

“It’s been a hell of a camp, I have two of the best trainers in the world with me. Everything you read and everything you see about me is the real deal.

“I’m not running, I’m here to put on a fight, I’m putting on a show. I’m the real deal.

“When you have a guy like me coming from Philadelphia, I try to imitate these great guys like Bernard Hopkins and Gabriel Rosado.

“These two belts, you best believe they’re coming back to Philadelphia.”

ZACHARY OCHOA, Undefeated Super Lightweight Prospect

“I made my 97-year-old grandfather cry when he saw me on NY1 yesterday.

“I want to thank Barclays Center for helping those kids in Brooklyn because I used to be one of them.

“It’s a beautiful thing to bring boxing back to Brooklyn and I hope we keep it going.”

MARC RAMSAY, Lemieux’s Trainer

“We are one thousand percent sure that Saturday’s fight is going to be amazing for the fans. What you will remember is that you watched David Lemieux make his U.S. debut.

“We had a very tough training camp and David is ready to show you what he can do.”

JESSE REID, Rosado’s Trainer

“This is a real pleasure, I looked at Gabe when he fought Gennady Golovkin and I was amazed by what I saw, which was a Johnny Tapia. I saw a young man who was learning the hard way.

“He was taking on fights and showing people the heart he has, but he also had a great boxing ability that god gave him. I don’t think he realized the talent he has.

“Rosado has a great team, I’ve worked with a lot of different trainers, but we really have a tremendous team put together.

“He’s going to show people another Bernard Hopkins or Johnny Tapia so look out.”

BERNARD HOPKINS, Golden Boy Promotions Partner and Future Hall of Famer

“I would like to let everybody know that fights like these are a custom. We are putting on the best fights, the most competitive fights. This is what we want to do. Going into 2015 this is what we will see more of. We will continue to sincerely do the best to have the best fighters face the best.

“The tickets for this fight are extremely affordable for the caliber of fighters and of fights. This is an early holiday present from Golden Boy Promotions.

“The fighters you see right now might not be the pay-per-view fighters of today, but these are the fighters who are fighting for that position and it starts this Saturday.”

ERIC GOMEZ, Senior VP of Golden Boy Promotions

“We’re very happy to be working with Barclays Center, they are committed to championship boxing and this card is no different.

“Gabriel Rosado is taking on the very dangerous David Lemieux. You don’t want to blink because Lemieux has power in both hands. Gabe Rosado has taken on the best in the business.

“When we put together these big cards we always put together those big competitive undercard fights. We have great prospects from all over the country fighting on the undercards. These guys are the champions of tomorrow.

“James De La Rosa is coming off of a big win against Alfredo Angulo and now he’s going to take on one of the top prospects in Hugo Centeno Jr., who is here to test his skills at this level.

“Hank Lundy and Thomas Dulorme is a fight with two guys who are top fighters in their division so you don’t want to miss that one.”

CAMILLE ESTEPHAN, President of Eye of the Tiger Management

“It’s a great honor and privilege to be here. I think boxing wins with this card, this is where boxing is at it’s best, when we have competitive cards like this.

“I really don’t think it’s a 50-50 fight, I don’t think people know. Rosado is a great way to find out if David Lemieux is for real.

“Saturday night David will take the opportunity to become a superstar. We’ve done everything we have to do every single day and I’m so proud of David. There are no shortcuts.

“We have so many great coaches, including Marc Ramsay who is a great person and great coach who is helping boxing in Canada.

“We know what David is all about, but you will all find out on Saturday night. Don’t miss this one and don’t blink.”

GARY SHAW, President & CEO of Gary Shaw Productions

“Hank said that on his side there is blood, sweat and tears. On Dulorme’s side it’s blood, sweat and bling, because we are going to walk out of here with both titles.

“Dulorme is a great fighter and I believe he is going to be the next 140-pound champion of the world. He will do his talking in the ring. The single most important thing is that he’s not a trash talker, he’s just a fighter.”

JIMMY BURCHFIELD SR., President & CEO of CES Boxing

“Fights like these are what boxing is all about, it’s the number one sport in the world and we have to keep making new stars.

“Every fight on this card is going to be amazing.

“Hank Lundy has added two major league trainers to his camp, in Barry Hunter and Mike Stafford. I want to thank them for helping the sport of boxing.

“Hank Lundy has been waiting his turn, we’ve traveled everywhere with Hank Lundy, because we’ve had to. The bigger the fight is, this is where the Philadelphia boxer comes out of him. He’s what TV wants, because he’s going to give his heart.”

BRETT YORMARK, CEO of Barclays Center

“We are really excited about hosting another big night of boxing at Barclays Center. Golden Boy continues to invest in bringing great boxing to Brooklyn.

“Zachary Ochoa, we’ve heard a lot about him, he’s a big personality who’s been training on the Williamsburg Bridge so many of us have seen him going back and forth.

“In just over 24 months, Barclays Center has become the heart of boxing on the east coast. Many great fighters became great champions here at Barclays Center and we are very proud of that.

“We think that next year will be the biggest yet for us. We want to be in the big event business and we want to bring the biggest events to this venue. We will bring the best of boxing to the borough of Brooklyn.”

DAVID BERLIN, New York State Athletic Commission

“New York is key in so many ways and with it’s rich boxing tradition we are once again privileged to host fighters from all around the world.

“Saturday’s card is here with the spectacle of a big fight card, but my first thought about this card is that these are all hard, competitive and evenly matched fights that fight fans want to see.

“Saturday night six fighters have a chance to make their mark and make their mark on the big stage.”

Pascal-Bolonti PPV PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

jean-pascal
Jean Pascal:
(about his decision to not trash-talk Thursday)
“Everything in its time. Everything I do is calculated. People think I’m unpredictable, but my strategies all well-planned with my sports psychologist. Now, for this fight, there isn’t any battle of wills, so there’s no point in trying to intimidate my opponent. We have another plan on the psychological front, but intimidation is not part of it.”

(about Bolonti)
“He’s a boxer with stamina. He has 35 wins, 24 by knock out. He’s never lost by KO, which means he’s coming here to go the distance. He’s had three months to prepare because he was initially set to fight Lucian Bute. He says the fight will be easier from a strategic standpoint because I’m a right-hander, so I know he’ll be ready. He’s here to try and surprise everyone. A win would allow him to be noticed at the international level.”

(On Bolonti lasting 12 rounds vs Braehmer on three weeks notice)
“Going the distance against a world champ, that says he’s a quality boxer. He has experience, he has stamina, so we’re in for a good fight at the Bell Centre on Saturday night.”

(Pascal says not thinking about Kovalev fight just yet)

“All I’m thinking about is this fight. I know Bolonti is the ideal opponent for me to prepare for the next bout, whoever it will be, against any right-hander, and allow me to go to the next level.”

Jean Pascal

Roberto Bolonti:
“I was preparing to fight Lucian Bute and, suddenly, he got injured. I know many people from Montreal follow him and that when he fights, the arena is full, so, I was quite disappointed. But it’s always easier to fight a right-handed boxer (like Pascal) than it is a left-hander (like Bute). The strategy will change, but it’s nothing to worry about. I’m looking forward to the fight.”

OLEKSANDR USYK RETURNS TO BATTLE SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13TH IN KIEV, UKRAINE

Kiev, Ukraine (December 4, 2014) 2012 Olympic Heavyweight Gold Medalist OLEKSANDR USYK makes his sixth pro start against South African veteran DANIE VENTER on Saturday, December 13th at the Sport Palace in Kiev, Ukraine.

Boasting a destructive record of 5-0-0 with five knockouts, Usyk has quickly become one of boxing’s hottest prospects.

Standing 6’3” tall, the heavy hitting Usyk sparred for two weeks leading up to this fight with former multiple time world title challenger OLA AFOLABI in preparation for the 10-rounder to be contested for the World Boxing Organization’s Inter-Continental Cruiserweight Title.
He is currently ranked # 7 by the sanctioning body.

Usyk is returning to action following a seventh round knockout of Daniel Bruwer on October 4th before a massive crowd at the Arena Stadium in Lviv, Ukraine.

The vastly more experienced Venter, 19-6-0 (14KO’s), is riding a four bout winning streak, most recently knocking out Big Ben Marcell Mulumbu on October 10, 2014 in Gauteng, South Africa.

“Training was terrific and I learned a great deal sparring with Ola. He’s one of the very best cruisers in the world and it was a tremendous experience,” said Usyk. “I’m getting better with each bout and looking to close out 2014 in style.”

Usyk also has been part of training camps this year with unified Heavyweight World Champion WLADIMIR KLITSCHKO.

Stated ALEXANDER KRASSYUK of K2 Promotions, “The sparring sessions between Oleksandr and Ola were terrific and a very strong learning experience”

“This has been a tremendous year of growth of Oleksandr and we’re looking towards an outstanding 2015 for him. Defeating Venter and winning the WBO Inter-Continental Title would be a excellent way to finish his 2014 campaign.”

ROCKY JUAREZ VS. ROBINSON CASTELLANOS TO HEADLINE GOLDEN BOY LIVE! CARD AT COWBOYS DANCEHALL IN SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS ON JANUARY 26, 2015

rocky-juarez_hbo
SAN ANTONIO (December 4, 2014) – FOX Sports 1 and FOX Deportes’ Golden Boy Live! welcomes the new year with a return to Cowboys Dancehall in San Antonio, Texas on Monday, January 26, 2015 with a main event that true boxing fans won’t want to miss. Presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Leija Battah Promotions, the WBC Silver Featherweight Champion Rocky Juarez (30-10-1, 21 KOs) defends his title against Robinson “Robin Hood” Castellanos (20-10, 13 KOs), in a 10-round brawl that will also serve as a WBC Featherweight World Title Eliminator. The stakes are higher than ever for two world-class featherweights coming off of spectacular wins in their recent bouts.

“It is not often that two veteran gladiators face off with one final title shot likely up for grabs,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Founder and President of Golden Boy Promotions. “This is the last shot for two battle-tested fighters, and fans in San Antonio will get to witness first-hand what these boxing lions will do to make it back to the top.”

A silver medal winner for the United States in the 2000 Olympics, Rocky Juarez (30-10-1, 21 KOs) is one of boxing’s most respected veterans. After falling just short of world title honors over the years against the likes of Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez and Chris John; the 34-year-old from Houston has parlayed huge wins over Antonio Escalante and Rene Alvarado into a number three ranking by the WBC. On January 26, he has the chance to defeat Castellanos and earn the world title shot he has been waiting for.

Ranked fifth in the world by the WBC, Celaya’s Robinson Castellanos (20-10, 13 KOs), rebounded from a rocky start to win 12 of his last 13 fights, rejuvenating a career that began in 2002. His victories include a decision win over former world champion Celestino Caballero in 2013 and his biggest impact was in October 2014, when he knocked out 23-0 Ronny Rios in the fifth round. Now he faces off against the granite-chinned Juarez with a world title shot on the line, and the 32-year-old veteran can’t wait for the first bell to ring.
