DAVID LEMIEUX, GABRIEL ROSADO, EDDIE GOMEZ & ZACHARY OCHOA PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

davidlemieux
DAVID LEMIEUX, NABF Middleweight Champion

“Thank you to everybody for being here, it is a great honor and great opportunity for me to be able to fight in Brooklyn at Barclays Center.

“I’m very excited. I didn’t sleep much last night just getting excited to talk in front of you all.

“I can’t wait for the fight. Gabriel Rosado is a great fighter. He comes to fight and he’s a very tough opponent. However, I’ve never felt so strong in a camp and trained so well. If you saw my fight against Fernando Guerrero, it is going to be a new David again.

“I’m going to be a beast on December 6 and it’s going to be dangerous. I can’t wait. I’ve always trained hard, for people who don’t know my background; I’ve never cheated myself. I always put in all the work in the gym.

“We’ve had some miscalculations and setbacks, but we’re back on track and we’re here to stay on top of the pyramid.

“Brooklyn is a great city, when we landed here we could feel the energy. Then when we came here in front of Barclays Center we said, ‘wow’. This feels like home.

“Not everybody knows me here, but after December 6, you will. If you’re worried about ‘Triple G’, there’s a new name that’s coming in…Lemieux. Wait until you see my fight and then we will speak.

“I’m here to put on the best show and with Rosado, he’s a great fighter so it’s going to be fireworks and dynamite in the arena. I can’t wait.”

GABRIEL ROSADO, Middleweight Contender

“It’s interesting how this fight came about. I was supposed to be the co-main event on Hopkins’ card against Kirkland and that fight fell through. Golden Boy told me not to worry and they stuck to their word. The next thing you know, I’m the main event. One door closes another one opens.

“I’ve been in a lot of fights that were controversial, but that is boxing. Fans love the drama. Now I have the opportunity to showcase my talent.

“Jesse Reid [Rosado’s trainer] has brought new life to boxing for me. A lot of the fights that I study are old fights so I knew about Jesse. One day I needed Jesse to wrap my hands and I realized this was the guy for me.

“I respect Lemieux. He is a tough fighter. Just because I respect him doesn’t mean I am going to give him too much respect [in the ring].

“When it comes to the caliber of fighters I have faced, I’ve faced better names. I need to use my experience and intelligence in this fight.

“I’m excited to fight in New York City – the Mecca of boxing. It’s close to Philadelphia so I know the fans are going to come out. I’m Puerto Rican and there’s a big Puerto Rican population in New York and all of the Latinos will want to watch this fight.

“I’m excited and I can’t wait to put on a show.”

EDDIE GOMEZ, Junior Middleweight Contender

“As we all know, my last fight did not go in my favor. I lost my first fight as a professional, so now I’m just looking to bounce back and do what I have to do.

“I’m happy to be fighting again at Barclays Center, so a lot of my friends and family will come out and show support. You never know, my luck might just be right here at home.

“I’m looking to put on an impressive show in my first comeback fight. I’m happy to be fighting before Christmas and New Years and I’m hoping to close out the year with a good victory.”

ZACHARY OCHOA, Junior Welterweight Prospect

“Since I’ve started boxing I’ve dreamed of an introduction like that from Oscar De La Hoya. I’ve studied him for a long time, especially that jab. I want to thank him and Golden Boy Promotions.

“I want to thank Brett Yormark, Barclays Center and everyone who gave me the opportunity to fight on this great stage.

“It’s going to be a great fight, this has been my best year since signing with Golden Boy and I’m ready to go.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, President & Founder of Golden Boy Promotions

“It is satisfying to know that we are coming back once again to the ‘Mecca of Boxing’ in New York – Barclays Center and to be able to give the fight fans real fights that they deserve to see.

“What better venue than Barclays Center? We are always happy to be back in a town where boxing is appreciated this much. The fight fans know boxing. The fight fans live for boxing here in Brooklyn.

“It is very important for Golden Boy Promotions and Barclays Center to keep bringing boxing back to Brooklyn on a regular basis. This is quite a treat for us. Quite a treat for Barclays Center because we know that the fight fans are going to get close to 10 competitive fights from top to bottom.

“I’m really happy to be working with CES Boxing, Gary Shaw Productions and Eye of the Tiger Management. It shows the direction in which Golden Boy Promotions is heading – in terms of bringing the best fights to the fans. It shows that Golden Boy Promotions is willing to work with anybody in order to satisfy the boxing fans.

“The three televised fights are competitive, compelling fights that the fans will enjoy. There is a lot at stake in the 150-pound and 160-pound weight ranges – you think tough competition. There will be no losers because every fighter is going to give it their all. Every fighter knows what is at stake.

“We are really excited about all of the fights on this card. The winners will move on to bigger and better things.”

CAMILLE ESTEPHAN, President of Eye of the Tiger Managements

“We spoke for a while about this and now it is a dream come true. What better place than Barclays Center, what a beautiful place. Being here in New York City, all I can think is ‘wow.’

“We’ve been working towards this for a long time, way before any news about Rosado’s other fights. We have a lot of respect for Rosado and he is a guy that is respected in boxing. What we want to do is stamp the boxing world with David Lemieux.

“A couple of years ago when David and I started working together, we were sitting in a restaurant planning out what we wanted to do. We were sitting near a nice wall of bricks. There are a lot of difficulties in a boxer’s career, and what I said to him is that we we’re going to build a wall, every single day in the gym and every day is another brick in that wall. One day will end up with a great wall.

“We have a grand vision and we’re going to prove it on Dec. 6. We think the best possible place to do it is here so we want to thank everyone who made it possible.

“We’re going to have lots of people from Montreal coming, they’re ready. They’re coming to support David. There are some other great fights on that night in Montreal, but a poll started online saying which fight people wanted to see most. So far 58 percent want to see David’s fight, so hopefully we will bring them hear with us.

JESSE REID, Rosado’s Trainer

“It’s my pleasure to be here. I first saw Gabe on television and he reminded me of the old time fighters like Rocky Graziano. You look at some of these young souls and you see tremendous power, tremendous speed and a big heart.

“I told my son, ‘If I could ever get a chance to work with this young man, I would love it.’ I’ve had some great champions in Johnny Tapia, Roger Mayweather, Hector Camacho and others. This young man has really brought my heart back into boxing. I’m 72-years-old and he makes me feel like I’m 21.

“He’s ready to fight anyone at any time, but he also has tremendous boxing ability and I don’t think that has ever been tapped into and I have the opportunity to work on these things.

“The aggressiveness of Gabriel Rosado is what makes boxing worthwhile.”

BRETT YORMARK, CEO of Barclays Center

“We are extremely excited to be hosting another great night of boxing. We thank Golden Boy Promotions for its support of boxing in Brooklyn and Barclays Center.

“This is the ninth boxing event with Golden Boy Promotions. We are very proud of that. Golden Boy put us on the map in terms of our boxing promotion in Brooklyn. We have only been open for a little more than 24 months and I think we have certainly become the home of boxing in the northeast.

“When I look back at 2014, it was a great year of boxing at Barclays Center. I am looking forward to ending it on a high note on December 6.

“I truly believe that 2015 will be our biggest year ever when it comes to boxing in Brooklyn and with the help of Golden Boy, we will continue to bring great fights.”

GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS AND OSCAR DE LA HOYA CONGRATULATE RANDY CABALLERO ON WINNING IBF BANTAMWEIGHT TITLE

LOS ANGELES (October 29, 2014) – As Randy “El Matador” Caballero (22-0, 13 KOs) returns from winning the IBF Bantamweight title in Monte Carlo, France, Golden Boy Promotions today congratulated the newly crowned champion of Nicaraguan descent on his victory and promised that hometown fans wouldn’t have to travel far for Caballero’s next match.

“Randy is so popular around his home of Coachella, and Fantasy Springs was the venue for so many of his fights as he climbed the championship ladder – put those facts together and there’s only one possible spot for his first title defense,” said Golden Boy Promotions Founder and President Oscar De La Hoya. “I’ve been saying for a long time that Randy is a true future star of boxing, and he continues to deliver on that promise. The fans at Fantasy Springs should buckle up for another fantastic fight in the near future.”

Last week, Caballero reached the high point of his young career, winning a 12-round unanimous decision against a game Stuart Hall to earn the IBF Bantamweight Title. Since joining the professional ranks in 2010, he has become a staple of the Southern California fight scene, packing venues around the area as he gained stature in the division.

A native of Indio, California who now makes his home in Coachella, Randy “El Matador” Caballero has gone from local hero to international standout as his meteoric rise has seen him defeat the likes of Kohei Oba, Alexis Santiago, Jessy Cruz, Jose Luis Araiza, Manuel Roman and Luis Maldonado.

One of the most experienced 23-year-olds in the sport,Castaneda has been keeping busy in the ring since his professional debut in 2009 and while he has had his ups and downs over the last year, a win over Diaz Jr. will get him back on track as 2014 comes to a close.

In the televised opener, the seven-foot heavyweight power-puncher Taishan (1-0, 1 KO) will enter the ring for his highly anticipated second professional fight. Taishan will be taking on Michael Lane (0-3) in a four-round bout. Widely considered one of the most interesting fighters in the sweet science today, fight fans are in for a rare glimpse Taishan in action when he laces up the gloves on November 13 to face the hard luck Lane. The rugged Lane has seen each of his three losses go to the judges’ scorecards, proving he can exchange blows and go the distance. However, Taishan hopes to take this one out of the judges’ hands by walking away with his second professional knockout.

Tijuana’s Kenia Enriquez Will Face Ana “La Bronca” Arrazola for the Vacant WBO Flyweight World Title!

(San Diego) – With a commitment to showcase “boxing at its best”, the last fight card of their schedule is no exception for California boxing hall of fame promoter Bobby D. Presents. On Friday, November 21st, San Diego, CA, will be the host of a world title when Tijuana’s Kenia Enriquez (12-0, 6KO) faces the much more experienced Ana “La Bronca” Arrazola (20-10-2, 13KO) for the vacant WBO flyweight world title. The Enriquez vs Arrazola world title fight is scheduled for ten explosive rounds and will headline a jam-packed six bout fight card billed as “Dangerous Divas II”. The event is co-promoted with Latin America’s most successful promoter, Zanfer.

Tijuana’s Kenia Enriquez (12-0, 6KO)
The last championship fight waged in San Diego County was nearly ten years ago when multi-divisional champion Israel “Magnifico” Vazquez defended his newly acquired IBF bantamweight title on December 28th, 2004, at the Sycuan Resort and Casino in El Cajon via 5th round technical knockout of Artyom Simonyan. The historic night of November 21st will be the first time a female world title is disputed in “America’s Finest City”.

The scheduled main event will mark the fifth fight this year for the undefeated Enriquez who last April stopped former world champion Jolene Blackshear in seven to capture the NABF light flyweight title. Along with the regional title, wins over Selene Lopez, Noemi Bosques and Mayela Perez catapulted Enriquez to a top 5 ranking with all the major organizations which led to the world title opportunity.

The title was vacated by Argentinean “Tutti” Bopp who after becoming pregnant also left the WBO and WBA light flyweight titles.

Arrazola, the first southpaw Enriquez has faced as a pro, is the most experienced fighter the charismatic Tijuana fighter has faced. Arrazola is coming off a challenge for the IBF light flyweight title as well as reigning as the Mexican national and WBF champion. In a thirty-two fight career Arrazola owns wins against highly ranked Anahi Torres twice and a draw with former world champion Jessica “Kika” Chavez and has faced the likes of the aforementioned Bopp, current world champion Ibeth “La Roca” Zamora, Susi Kentikian, Ji-Hyun Park and Naoko Shibata to prove she will be a difficult adversary for the twenty-one year Enriquez.

Boxing’s “Batman” Super middleweight Schiller Hyppolite Canada’s next great fighter

MONTREAL (October 29, 2014) – Boxing has its “Superman” — World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson — and from the same country, ironically, comes “Batman” — world super middleweight contender Schiller Hyppolite (13-0-1, 9 KOs).

The 28-year-old Hyppolite, like Stevenson, was born in Haiti and he also lives in Montreal. Hyppolite has won eight straight fights and is world rated by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) at No. 15, as well as No. 19 by the WBC.

The multi-talented boxer-puncher headlines a show November 21, presented by his promoter Camille Estephan’s company, Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM), streaming live in high definition on www.punchinggrace.com from Colisee Cardin in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. Hyppolite faces Alan Campa (10-1, 7 KOs) in the 12-round main event for the vacant IBF North American and WBC Continental Americas 168-pound titles.

If not for a major attitude adjustment after suffering his lone loss as a professional in 2012, to then 7-0 Francy Ntetu by six-round split decision, Hyppolite would probably be a struggling journeyman instead of one of the hottest prospects in boxing, “Batman.”

“I was undisciplined when I lost that fight,” Hyppolite explained. “I was not doing well at that time, but I had an opportunity to spar for a month with Tavoris Cloud and that changed my life. I started doing what I was supposed to be doing to accomplish my goals in the ring. That changed everything and now I work hard every day in the gym. I’m definitely ‘The Next One’ out of Canada. I work so hard that I can’t see why I won’t be the next great fighter from up here.”

Cloud was preparing to fight living legend Bernard Hopkins, who Hyppolite not only idolizes but is somewhat similar to, style-wise, in the squared circle. “I would love to spar with Bernard Hopkins,” Schiller gushes. “He’s so smart in the ring. I’m sneaky like him; I move around a lot and make adjustments, too. I’m a boxer but can go to war when I have to. My heart is with Bernard for his fight with (Sergey) Kovalev.

A native of Haiti, Hyppolite has closely followed his fellow countrymen in Canada: Stevenson and former world light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal, as well as his EOTTM stable-mates, WBC heavyweight champion Bermane “BWare” Stiverne, and former world junior lightweight title challenger Dierry “Dough Style” Jean.

“I’m glad to be with other Haitian fighters here who have done so well in boxing,” Hyppolite noted. “Today, when people here about a Haitian boxer, they know he’s a good fighter.”

“Someday, ‘Batman’ will out do ‘Superman,'” Estephan commented. “He’s always been a nice kid but he had a bad attitude. He was kicked off the Canadian National Team. His coach, 1996 Canadian Olympian and NABF heavyweight champion Jean Francois Bergeron, asked me about getting Hyppolite a fight. I saw him in the gym and liked what I saw. I got him a six-round fight. He clearly won five rounds but was showboating. The judges didn’t like him and he lost a split decision. Schiller needed to and made an attitude adjustment after that fight and since then he’s won eight fight with seven knockouts. He’s also worked very hard on strength and conditioning for the past two years.

“Schiller is more talented than (Lucian) Bute, Stevenson or Pascal at the same point in their careers. He’s slick, dangerous and fast. Sparring with Cloud really changed things for him. His confidence improved after that training camp and another in which he sparred with (Gennady) Golovkin. He proved himself against those guys as being a very talented fighter capable of adjusting during a fight. Schiller is EOTTM’s top prospect and I’m confidence that he will eventually surpass Bute, Stevenson and Pascal.”

Unlike these aforementioned Canadian fighters who graduated from super middleweights to light heavyweights, Hyppolite has no plans to move up from 168 to 175 pounds, at least in the immediate future. In 2015, hopefully, he’ll get a world title shot.

“I figure in a year, 1 ½ years, I will be fighting for a world title,” Hyppolite concluded. “I know that Camille will get me a world title shot, as long as I keep winning and improving. I don’t really care which world champion I fight but, if I had a choice, I’d want to fight Andre Ward because he’s the best super middleweight in the world right now.”

BARCLAYS CENTER IN BROOKLYN TO HOST HBO BOXING AFTER DARK® TRIPLEHEADER ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 6

davidlemieux
BROOKLYN (October 29) – Golden Boy Promotions returns to its East Coast home – Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY on Saturday, December 6 with a special HBO Boxing After Dark tripleheader. In the 12-round main event, rising Canadian star David Lemieux will defend his NABF Middleweight Title against the no nonsense Philadelphian warrior “King” Gabriel Rosado. Plus, unbeaten Californian Hugo “The Boss” Centeno Jr. takes on his toughest challenge yet in the form of Texas’ James “The King” De La Rosa. Rounding out the televised card is a pair of junior welterweight sluggers as Thomas “El Frances” Dulorme takes on “Hammerin” Hank Lundy in junior welterweight action.

In non-televised action, two hot prospects out of New York City, Eddie “E-Boy” Gomez and Zachary “Zungry” Ochoa, will enter the ring in separate bouts to entertain the hometown fans and continue their rise to the top of the boxing world.

Tickets priced at $150, $80, $50, $25 and $15, plus applicable taxes and service charges are on sale now and are available for purchase at www.barclayscenter.com, www.ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster locations, by calling 800-745-3000 and at the American Express Box Office starting on Thursday, Oct. 30 at noon. For group tickets, please call 800-GROUP-BK.

“I’m really looking forward to this fight,” said Lemieux. “My training camp has already started and I am in great shape. I want to take this opportunity to prove that I represent a real threat to the middleweight division. Gabriel Rosado is a tough fighter and he has fought a lot of talented boxers and has established his credibility. This will be a good test for me and I’m working really hard to deliver an amazing performance.”

“A fight like me against David Lemieux is what HBO is all about, and the type of fight the boxing world craves,” said Rosado. “I’m both excited and motivated to fight again on the East Coast. I’m from Philly and I know my fans will be in Brooklyn to represent [Philadelphia] alongside my New York fans. Records can be deceiving and I believe David Lemieux will learn that first hand, and I’m hungry to get back in the mix with the best in the middleweight division.”

“I’m really excited about this great opportunity, I will take complete advantage of it and showcase my talent,” said Centeno Jr. “I want to thank Golden Boy and HBO for this opportunity.”

“Here I am again on the big stage this time against Hugo Centeno Jr. on HBO,” said De La Rosa. “I’m dedicating this fight to my mentor Emanuel Augustus who I’d been sparring against since I was 14 years old. People know he came to put on a show and I’m coming to do the same December 6 in Brooklyn.”

“I’m very grateful to my promoter Gary Shaw for getting me this fight with Hank Lundy,” said Dulorme. “I’m really looking forward to putting on a great show for all of the fans watching on HBO. This is a great opportunity for me to showcase my talent against a very good opponent. I know a victory against Lundy will open up many doors for my career. I’m coming to win and win convincingly for my fans back home in Puerto Rico.”

“This is what we’ve been waiting for – to fight on a big stage – HBO,” said Lundy. “This is a great opportunity to show the world ‘Hammerin’ Hank is the best-kept secret in the 140-pound weight class. On December 6, I’m coming to New York to put on a hell of a show. As a Philadelphia kid, everyone knows that I’ve fought hard. Nothing comes easy. The fans know I’m going to bring it.

“The winners of these two fights will find themselves positioned for huge match-ups in their next bouts, while the losers will experience a major setback,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Founder and President of Golden Boy Promotions. “With so much on the line, fans are in for a huge show to close out the 2014 boxing season at Barclays Center.”

“I’m extremely happy for David to get this opportunity on the big stage in the U.S. against a very well respected Gabriel Rosado,” said Camille Estephan of Eye of the Tiger Management. “We are not looking past this fight nonetheless, we believe David is capable of competing with the cream of the crop in his division. We couldn’t be happier with David’s preparation so far for this fight. We want to seize this opportunity and we will.”

“Dulorme has looked sensational since moving down to 140 pounds,” said Gary Shaw, Dulorme’s promoter. “Right now he’s riding a five-fight winning streak and momentum is on his side. Lundy is a good fighter, but I believe Dulorme is on another level. I want to thank Ken Hershman, Peter Nelson and everyone at HBO for all of their supports in making this fight a reality. Also I’m glad to be working with Cameron Dunkin again. This is going to be a great fight for the fans, one they deserve.”

“We want to thank HBO, Golden Boy Promotions and Gary Shaw Productions for this opportunity. We’re very excited to fight at the beautiful Barclays Center in Brooklyn,” said Jimmy Burchfield Sr., CES Boxing President and CEO. “Hank is a throwback fighter. He fights in the center of the ring and brings the fight to his opponent. This is why he gets the highest ratings when he fights worldwide and on national television. This is a fight we’ve wanted for a long time. We know Thomas Dulorme is a worthy opponent, but these are the kind of fights that bring out the best in ‘Hammerin’ Hank.”

“I am excited to welcome new boxing talent to Barclays Center,” said Brett Yormark, CEO of Barclays Center. “We expect a great fight from Lemieux and Rosado, which the boxing fans of Brooklyn have come to expect at Barclays Center. We are also delighted that Zachary Ochoa and Eddie Gomez are returning to the center of boxing on the East Coast.”

“The commitment to boxing from the people at Barclays Center is gratifying and we are delighted to return to Brooklyn for an action packed night of tough fights on our late night boxing franchise,” said Peter Nelson, vice president, programming, HBO Sports. “Fight fans will get their money’s worth from three stellar matchups and we know that David, Gabriel, Hugo, James, Thomas and Hank will be prepared to seize the night.”

Canada’s latest hope for world championship honors, 25-year-old Montreal native David Lemieux (32-2, 30 KOs) has all of the tools to become an international superstar, and his first HBO headliner against Rosado will certainly prove if he’s ready for primetime. Currently ranked second in the world at 160 pounds by the WBC, fifth by the IBF and eighth by the WBO, Lemieux is coming off of a blistering third-round knockout over Fernando Guerrero in May and many believe a win over Rosado will be his ticket to a title shot.

One of the most respected and popular middleweights in the world, Philadelphia’s “King” Gabriel Rosado (21-8, 13 KOs) is a fearless warrior who lives up to his claim to be willing to fight anyone, anytime at any place. A knockout victor over the likes of Jesus Soto Karass, Sechew Powell and Charles Whittaker, Rosado has also shared the ring with world champions Gennady Golovkin and Peter Quillin. Eager to get another opportunity to challenge for a world title, the 28-year-old Rosado will enter the ring with a vengeance December 6.

Ready to make his move on the middleweight elite, Oxnard’s Hugo “The Boss” Centeno Jr. (21-0, 11 KOs) has long been one of boxing’s top prospects, but since the 23-year-old put together wins over Ayi Bruce, Keandre Leatherwood, Angel Osuna and Gerardo Ibarra, he has made himself known as a legitimate contender. On December 6, he will introduce himself to the world on the HBO airwaves.

A native of Harlingen, Texas, 26-year-old James “The King” De La Rosa (23-2, 13 KOs) fought under the radar for much of his nearly decade-long career, even though he defeated Tim Coleman, Tyrone Brunson and James Webb. But in September, De La Rosa broke out on the world stage with his dominant 10-round decision win over Alfredo Angulo in Las Vegas, setting up another big fight in December against the unbeaten Centeno Jr.

Fighting in New York for the fourth time, Puerto Rico’s Thomas Dulorme (21-1, 14 KOs) is currently on a five-fight winning streak in which he’s dispatched Francisco Figueroa and outpointed previously unbeaten Karim Mayfield, putting him among the top contenders at 140 pounds. Currently ranked second in the world by the WBA, fourth by the WBC and IBF and fifth by the WBO, the 24-year-old Dulorme is taking on a risky test in Lundy, but with a win, he will move a step closer to a title shot.

Bouncing back in style after a 2013 decision loss to Viktor Postol, 30-year-old Philadelphia native Hank Lundy (25-3-1, 12 KOs) has barely lost a round since defeating Olusegun Ajose, Angelo Santana and Gerardo Cuevas in successive fights, showing that despite his previous success at 135 pounds, his true home is now in the junior welterweight division, where he is ranked sixth in the world by the IBF heading into this pivotal showdown with Dulorme on December 6.

Hailing from the Bronx, Eddie Gomez (16-1, 10 KOs) has done a lot in a short time thus far as a professional, following up a stellar amateur career with dominant victories over a high level of competition. Now, he looks to avenge the first loss of his career, an upset defeat in June at the hands of Francisco Santana. Gomez had been hot before the loss as the skilled boxer-puncher had defeated Luis Hernandez, Steve Upsher Chambers and Daquan Arnett previously. Next he will face an opponent to be named on December 6.

Proudly representing his borough of Brooklyn will be junior welterweight prospect Zachary Ochoa (8-0, 4 KOs). Appearing at Barclays Center for the fourth time, the 22-year-old Ochoa has shown style and savvy throughout his young career and in his next test, against an opponent to be determined he will look to keep his hometown fans happy.

Lemieux vs. Rosado is a 12 round NABF middleweight bout which is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Eye Of The Tiger Management and sponsored by Corona Extra, AT&T and Mexico – Live It To Believe It!. Dulorme vs. Lundy is a 10-round junior welterweight bout promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, Gary Shaw Productions and CES Boxing. The HBO Boxing After Dark telecast begins at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Instant Replay Returns To MMA In NJ This Saturday LIVE on PPV

NEW YORK, NY (Oct. 29, 2014) – Cage Fury Fighting Championships (www.cffc.tv), the first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion in history to adopt instant replay in New Jersey State seven years ago, will also be the first to bring it back to The Garden State, at its world championship quadruple-header event headlined by a welterweight (170 pounds) title showdown between undefeated, reigning champion Jonavin “The Spider” Webb (7-0) of Marlton, N.J. and superstar Lyman “Cyborg” Good (16-3) of New York, N.Y., live on pay-per-view on Saturday, November 1 from the Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City.

“Athletes who compete in MMA and boxing are certainly deserving of having errors corrected, right then and there, like other athletes in other sports that use instant replay,” said New Jersey State Athletic Control (NJSAC) Board Commissioner Larry Hazzard, an International Boxing Hall of Fame member who, as commissioner in 2001, helped draft the Unified Rules of MMA and played a central role in New Jersey’s adoption of MMA as a regulated sport that year.

“MMA and boxing are elite professional sports,” continued Hazzard, “as well as individual sports where young men and women rarely get a second opportunity at the big chance so, if you have a referee who makes an error in a world championship fight and it costs the athlete a title, that athlete rarely gets another opportunity, unlike in team sports.

“We are excited to usher in a new era in the sport of MMA in New Jersey with the restoration of instant replay, thanks to Commissioner Hazzard, who has been one of MMA’s biggest advocates for many years as well as a tremendous leader in combative sports,” said CFFC President Rob Haydak. “With the use of instant replay, all CFFC athletes can receive a fair shake in competition in our cage.”

During Hazzard’s initial tenure as commissioner, CFFC, under its previous ownership, was also the first MMA promotion in New Jersey State history to adopt instant replay at its third-ever live event on Jan. 19, 2007.

Following Hazzard’s return to the role of commissioner last month, NJSAC Board members voted on Oct. 16 to restore the use of instant replay at MMA events.

Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) 43 will be distributed at a price point of $19.95 in The United States by Go Fight Live (GFL), in association with Integrated Sports Media, for live viewing, beginning at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST on November 1, both on cable via iN DEMAND, as well as online at www.gfl.tv.

In the co-main event, two furious, aggressive-minded finishers in Ronald “Choirboy” Stallings (12-4) of Belcamp, M.D. and Tim “The South Jersey Strangler” Williams (9-1) of Millville, N.J. will face off for the vacant CFFC world middleweight (185 pounds) crown. To date, both fighters have claimed all of their professional victories by way of (T)KO or submission.

In other world championship action on the live televised main card, Jimmie “El Terror” Rivera (14-1) of Elmwood Park, N.J. will look to secure his 14th consecutive victory when he collides with fellow star Anthony “The Death Dealer” Durnell (11-3) of Pittsburgh, Penn. for the vacant CFFC bantamweight (135 pounds) crown. Durnell is aiming for his 4th straight win.

CFFC World Heavyweight Champion and heavy-handed KO artist Zu “The 8th Wonder of the World” Anyanwu (7-2) will put his strap on the line against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Plinio Cruz (6-5) and, in the first live, televised bout, rising stars Jonathan “The Devastaor” DelBrugge (5-1) of Ellicott City, M.D. and Jordan Stiner (8-1) of Hatfield, Penn. will lock horns in a lightweight (155 pounds) contest.

A live pre-show featuring six preliminary card bouts will begin at 6 p.m. EST/3 p.m. PST, and will be available exclusively online at www.gfl.tv.

Eddie Chambers would welcome the chance to test Anthony Joshua in 2015

Eddie Chambers
LONDON (29 OCT) Former world heavyweight title challenger ‘Fast’ Eddie Chambers likes what he has seen of fast-rising prospect Anthony Joshua, but fears his run of soft opposition may only serve to hurt him in the future.

The 32-year-old Chambers, once of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, now an honorary member of Team Fury in Bolton, speaks from experience. Back in March 2010 he scaled the heights and challenged Wladimir Klitschko for the world heavyweight championship. He therefore knows a good heavyweight when he sees one.

“At the moment they’re doing a good job of making Joshua look unbeatable,” said Chambers. “The only problem with that is you get to a point where that’s all you’re used to. Then you get in there with somebody who can prove you’re very beatable. Then panic sets in. Then you realise you have no foundations or experience to fall back on.

“Unfortunately, there’s too much fanfare from TV right now. They’re trying to analyse the improvements when he’s fighting nobodies. They’re putting a guy who is 6’6 in with much smaller guys who aren’t really talented or athletic in the slightest. They have no talent beyond coming forward and blocking shots with their face.

“How do you asses someone’s development against these opponents? Joshua won’t even get hit by these guys. And, if he does, it’s just a lucky shot.”

Chambers, 39-4 (21 KOs), continued: “Joshua’s a big, strong, athletic guy. He’s a super athlete. These big heavyweights are a different breed to what they were a few years back.

“And that means you shouldn’t match him against smaller guys with no ambition and then expect him to somehow be tested. It won’t happen. You have to put him in with someone who is either similar in size to him or at the very least someone who is athletic, slick, durable or strong.

“I’m not saying he won’t beat these opponents. He could go in there, wipe them out and surprise me. But, until that happens, we don’t really know how good he is.

“Ultimately, if you want him to become a world champion and you want him to reach the top, you can’t keep feeding him the same stale food every time. You’ve got to feed him something spicy now and again to keep his taste buds alive.”

Renowned for being an often avoided member of the heavyweight division, Chambers doesn’t expect a call from Joshua’s promoter anytime soon. But, in the unlikely event that the call does arrive, he’s more than happy to ask a question or two of the unbeaten Londoner.

“People might start believing their own BS and could be quick to test him,” said Chambers, who next appears on November 8 at Glow, Bluewater. “If that happens, I may get the call. I don’t expect it to happen anytime soon, as there are other fights out there for him that don’t carry as much risk, but I would never say ‘no’ to an opportunity like that. It would be nice.

“I’d like to see him go all the way, though. I’d like to see him get far. Let’s see these young guys go out and prove themselves. Then, if our paths meet and there’s a bit of meat dangling between two dogs, I’m not the type to back down.”

Trout to face Grajeda on December 11 ESPN card

Austin_Trout
According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, former Jr. Middleweight champion Austin Trout will take on Luis Grajeda on December 11 at the Pachanga Resort in Casino in Temecula, California. The show is a special tribute to the late Dan Goossen.

“Pechanga Resort & Casino had always been one of Dan’s favorite places to put on a show,” said Goossen Promotions matchmaker Tom Brown, Goossen’s brother-in-law, who is now running the company. “(ESPN’s) Brian Kweder came to me with the idea, which I thought was great, and when I went to Pechanga. They were so accommodating they actually moved an event to help us make this special night happen.”

Although the other bouts are not finalized, former two-time heavyweight title challenger Chris Arreola (35-4, 31 KOs), 33, of Riverside, California, is slated to be on the card in his first bout since Bermane Stiverne stopped him in the sixth round of their rematch to win a vacant world title in May. The leading candidate to face Arreola is Joe Hanks (21-2, 14 KOs), 31, of Newark, New Jersey, who has lost back-to-back fights.

A third fight also is likely to be added to the telecast, the rescheduled bout between heavyweights Johnathon Banks (29-2-1, 19 KOs) and Antonio Tarver (30-6, 21 KOs), the former light heavyweight world champion.

“The worst thing is when you’re off for so long and then you have to go back in the gym and learn everything again,” Trout told ESPN.com. “This is what I asked for. I’m glad they got me in before the year is over.”

“Things are going good and I am definitely excited to fighting again,” Trout said. “It’s a blessing. Now I don’t have to worry about rust. I can work on getting better instead of having to re-learn some things.”

“In that fight (against Dawson) we had to knock some rust off and he showed us what we need to improve on, so we are working on some things,” Trout said. “I’m working hard to get my base stronger.”

“I have yet to even look him up,” Trout said. “Now that he signed the contract I will check him out. I know he gave Willie a good fight so he’s a good gauge for me to see where I’m at. I’m not far away (from another title fight). After this one we should be ready to jump in head first next year.”

Training Camp Notes: Sullivan Barrera

Big Bear Lake, CA:Guantanamo Bay, Cuba native Sullivan Barrera (13-0, 8 KOs) defected to the United States to become a world champion boxer and now, in his second straight training camp with world-renowned trainer Abel Sanchez (trainer to WBA Super Middleweight World Champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin), the undefeated light heavyweight feels he is getting closer to realizing that dream.

On Nov. 8 Barrera will face Rowland Bryant (18-4, 12 KOs) of Altamonte Springs, Florida, who is coming off an eight round unanimous decision loss to Pawel Glazewski in Poland. The two will meet for eight rounds of action on the stacked undercard of the Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins vs. Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev event at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ.

Since defecting from Cuba prior to his professional debut in 2009, Barrera has resided in Miami, FL but, now in his second training camp with Sanchez, Sullivan has all but made Big Bear Lake his home. According to his co-manager, Luis Molina, “Sullivan is focused. He’s basically moved to Big Bear which shows how dedicated he is to becoming a world champion.”

Training with Sanchez in Big Bear has allowed Sullivan access to camps of the other great fighters that Sanchez trains such as Golovkin. The 32-year old said, “I’ve been training very hard. Training camp has been great. We have had excellent sparring.”

In Sullivan’s first fight with Sanchez, he faced Eric Watkins and knocked him out in the sixth round last month at Foxwoods in Connecticut. According to Abel, things have continued to improve for Barrera since that first camp together.

“In our second training camp together things and system are making more sense to Sullivan, he is understanding his part a lot better,” explained Sanchez. “Our style here at The Summit Gym is to make sure we work towards a world championship and provide entertainment along the way.”

When asked about his upcoming fight with Bryant, Barrera said, “I came to America to seek, not only a better future for my family, but to become world champion. This is my dream. I LOVE AMERICA!” To which Molina added, “The future is bright for Sullivan and we are looking forward to Nov. 8.”

Promoter Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events, said, “As a light heavyweight prospect, this is a big opportunity for Sullivan Barrera to appear on the undercard of such an exciting and highly anticipated light heavyweight unification fight. At 13-0, it’s also perfect timing. I expect Sullivan to capitalize on this chance and impress the fans, media and network executives who will all be at Boardwalk Hall on November 8th so that he can take the next step in his career in 2015.”

BERNARD HOPKINS PHILADELPHIA MEDIA WORKOUT QUOTES

Bernard Hopkins
PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 28, 2014) – With just a little over a week until fight night, Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins worked out in front of a packed media contingent that traveled from far and wide to see the 49-year-old ageless light heavyweight champion train for his Saturday, Nov. 8 light unification bout against Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City live on HBO World Championship Boxing®.

President and founder of Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya was also in attendance to talk to the media and watch Hopkins train. Here is what the participants had to say.

BERNARD HOPKINS, IBF and WBA Light Heavyweight World Champion

“To be able to bring a lot of the top writers in the out here to cover history is great. This fight has a lot of historic things about it.

“Oscar was talking about me fighting without pressure. It’s the pressure of the unknown. The unknown is the reward that comes after taking on such a challenge. For me it’s about never taking anyone lightly. I’m ready mentally and physically for this challenge, come November 8.

“I believe the difference comes in the execution. If you think about it too much beforehand it will keep you up at night. You can’t worry about things you can’t change. I prepare to do what I know how to do best. That rule of code has never betrayed me.

“There’s not one fighter I wouldn’t put my record up against. In this era – in any weight class. I put the work in to have the track record and be taken seriously.

“There are a lot of things I look at that I used to do, even though I was successful, as a waste of time. But those are the things you have to go through. We are young before we are old. We are immature before we become mature.

“When I look back at the last five years of my career, I’m spending less time in the gym than I did in the beginning of my career. I’m fighting 12-round fights, why am I training for four hours? These are the things you do when you’re young. When you get older you realize that you had to survive it, that’s how I got here.

“When you look at the things I do, the lifestyle and the discipline. You would say I’m preserved. You would say that I’m well kept. You would say I’m clean in the garage. The mechanics are all brand new, because I took care of them.

“I have the same thoughts on Kovalev that most people here do. He’s a dangerous puncher. He has an over 90 percent knockout rate and anyone who fights this guy has the opportunity to not be the same once he exits the ring. We won’t take anything away from this guy because he’s real.

“Kovalev is a threat to anybody. It won’t be an easy fight, even if it looks easy to you. I don’t just have to beat the man, but I have to beat a lot of people. They’re either going to watch me win or watch me lose, and I don’t mind playing that game. I don’t believe in luck. I believe in whoever brings the best and whoever sacrifices the most to be victorious will win.

“It doesn’t bother me if people are rooting for me or not. My family, are the only thing that matters at the end of the day. If you’re motivated by other things, you’ll never stop. No matter how many people you beat there will always be something else.

“No one expected me to be gone 10-15 years ago. I became their worst nightmare. I still have my senses and my intellect. I can still articulate. That makes me an even bigger force.”

NAAZIM RICHARDSON, Hopkins’ Trainer

“With some of the young guys, you have to be on them before they get comfortable. But with Bernard he comes in knowing what he wants to do and it’s just a pleasure to work with him.

“You can’t be undedicated in this job, you have to be in there and be a part of everything. We’re dealing with a freak of nature in Kovalev, he might be the hardest puncher in the history of boxing, we’ll see.

“Bernard can watch Kovalev’s tapes, but until you feel the punches you don’t know what it is. We don’t know how hard he can punch, but we’ve fought some guys who could punch. We saw with Pavlik, Tarver and Trinidad, those guys had power.

“The only thing Bernard hasn’t done in this sport is lose badly, so I told him to get out of this sport before he does everything. But he proved me wrong because then he beat Pavlik and Pascal and all of the other guys.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, President and Founder of Golden Boy Promotions

“We’ll never see anything like Bernard Hopkins again. We won’t see any athlete in any sport compete at the highest level. It’s unheard of. You can talk about any era, or any great fighter, no one has been able to compete at this level. Everybody in America should be cheering for him.

“When you take a look at Hopkins being 49-years-old, almost 50, you have basically a kid in the other corner who punches like a man. It’s a 50-50 fight.

“I haven’t counted Hopkins out since he beat me, even before that. Hopkins is a master at what he does. The question is how will Kovalev react psychologically to an ‘alien?’ He’s never fought an athlete like Hopkins. How will he react when he hits the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds.

“Everything he does is calculated. Everything he consumes. It’s all calculated. It’s clean living for a very long time. There’s more to it but that’s a lot of it.

“At this point. Hopkins is already in the Hall of Fame. He’s already going to be talked about as one of the greats. So he doesn’t have that added pressure of trying to prove himself. I think people already have the utmost respect for him.

“People respect the fact that at 49-years-old, he’s still going strong. There’s no sign of him slowing down. He’s getting faster, he’s getting stronger and he has more energy. He’s toying with young fighters, half his age. For Hopkins it’s starts outside the ring, he breaks you.

“What comes to mind from my fight with Hopkins, was one of his teeth fell off and he was, ‘well that’s old-age.’ Now I look back and think wow, he made me think I was fighting this old man. I had in my mind that if I just got through training camp, without doing any extra, that I could take this guy on. He made me complacent. He didn’t need to talk trash or get in my face, he’s a master.

“I believe that Hopkins focuses not on what he’s going to do physically, but on what he can do to get his opponent out of their comfort zone and what combinations does he not expect from me. I wouldn’t say he’s awkward, but he knows how to offset his opponents.

Zeuge to defend IBF International title on December 6 in Oldenburg

Tyron Zeuge (15-0, 9 KOs) will defend his IBF International title on December 6 at the EWE Arena in Oldenburg, Germany. The 22 year-old super middleweight will face Croatian veteran Stjepan Bozic (29-8, 19 KOs) in a fight coach Karsten Roewer has described as the first real test of Zeuge’s pro career.

“Bozic is a very experienced fighter,” said Roewer. “He is a former world title challenger who has previously shared the ring with some great boxers including Arthur Abraham. This is a big step up for Tyron and the first real test in the professional ranks. He cannot afford to take Bozic lightly.”

Zeuge returns following a ninth-round TKO victory over Baker Barakat in August. Despite the positive result, Roewer admits that there is still room for improvement from his young protégé. ‘’Although he won by stoppage, I did not really like what I saw from Tyron in this fight. He will need to improve in order to unsettle Bozic. However, if he works hard and sticks to the game plan, I have no doubts he will emerge as the clear winner.”

An assessment the young Berliner fully agrees with. “My coach is absolutely right,” said Zeuge. “I relied too much on the jab in my last fight. If I want to continue to climb the world rankings, I will need to be more versatile. Bozic is going to be a much tougher test and I know there is going to be no room for mistakes.”

Zeuge is the latest addition to an action-packed show in Oldenburg featuring a world championship double header. WBA World Light Heavyweight Champion Juergen Braehmer defends his title against Pawel Glazewski, while IBF World Cruiserweight Champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez faces mandatory challenger Ola Afolabi. Tickets are available via eventim.de.

PALHARES VS. FITCH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MMA MEGA-EVENT SET FOR DECEMBER 13

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 28, 2014) — World Series of Fighting (www.wsof.com) announced today a highly-anticipated, welterweight (170 pounds) world championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) main event showdown that Bleacher Report has dubbed a “must see’ fight, between dangerous, reigning champion Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares (16-6) of Dores Do Indaia, Minas Gerais Brazil and fellow Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and superstar Jon Fitch (26-6-1, 1 NC) of San Jose, Calif. on Saturday, Dec. 13, live at 9 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) from a location to be announced soon.

In the co-main event, streaking finisher and reigning featherweight (145 pounds) world champion Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn (15-2-1) of Marshalltown, Iowa will put his title on the line against submission powerhouse and Team Alpha Male alumnus Lance “The Party” Palmer (8-1) of Sacramento, Calif.
“We and the MMA fans around the world are looking forward to this tremendous Main event that’s headlined by two of the world’s fiercest fighters – Rousimar Palhares, our champion, and legendary MMA fighter Jon Fitch,” said World Series of Fighting President, six-time world champion and two-time Hall of Famer Ray Sefo.

“From top to bottom,” continued Sefo, “we have a stellar lineup set for our final, live NBCSN telecast of the year, and I think it sets the tone for another year of incredible growth for us in 2015.”

Rousimar Palhares vs. Jon Fitch

Palhares, the reigning World Series of Fighting welterweight kingpin, has also become one of the sport’s most feared executioners, with an unmatched ability to trap his opponents in a variety of leg locks. To date, 13 of the stocky and muscular fighter’s 16 career wins have come by way of submission, 10 of which he produced with either a heel hook or ankle lock.

On March 29, Palhares was crowned champion after submitting Steve Carl with an inverted heel hook just over one minute into the first round of action. During his 10-year career, Palhares has claimed wins over a number of stellar adversaries, including, Jeremy Horn and Mike Pierce, whom Palhares tapped out with a heel hook just 31 seconds into their fight.

Also a decorated submission stylist as well as a longtime member of San Jose’s Team AKA, Fitch will make his second start of 2014 and aim for his third consecutive win, after earning a split decision over Marcelo Alfaya on Oct. 26, 2013 and a unanimous decision over superstar Dennis “Superman” Hallman on July 5, 2014, respectively.

During his 12-year professional career, Fitch has submitted or scored TKO’s on a long list of rival superstars, including Roan Carneiro, Josh Burkman, Thiago Alves, and has earned decisions over Diego Sanchez, Erick Silva and Ben Saunders.

Rick Glenn vs. Lance Palmer

The 25-year-old Glenn is looking to extend an unbeaten run that began 13 fights ago, in June 2010, and a 3-fight win streak under the World Series of Fighting banner. In those 13 starts, Glenn finished 10 of his opponents by way of TKO or submission, including his last opponent second round TKO stoppage of Georgi Karakhanyan, on June 21 2014.

Palmer, a 26-year-old standout, is looking to claim his second consecutive win after submitting Nick LoBosco with a rear-naked choke in the first round (4:15) of action in the World Series of Fighting cage on June 21. Palmer has produced four of his eight career wins by way of submission.

Two additional, main card bouts will be announced soon. The live, four-bout NBCSN telecast of WSOF 16: Palhares vs. Fitch will begin at 9 p.m. ET on Dec. 13.

DeLomba faces hard-hitting Abreu in co-feature; Tiberi-Charles on tap for undercard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 28th, 2014) — The undercard of CES Boxing’s season finale Friday, Nov. 7th, 2014 at Twin River Casino features two bouts with Fight of the Night potential threatening to steal the thunder from the world championship main event.

With New York’s Chazz McDowell forced to withdraw from the event, Newark, Del., lightweight Joey Tiberi Jr. (12-2, 6 KOs) will take on the dangerous, 22-fight veteran Osnel Charles (10-11-1, 1 KO) of Atlantic City, N.J., in the six-round special attraction, Tiberi’s Twin River debut.

In the six-round welterweight co-feature, Nick DeLomba (5-0) of Cranston, R.I., will put his unbeaten record on the line against the hard-hitting Berlin Abreu (7-1, 5 KOs) of Providence, R.I.

The main event of “Winner Take All” is a 10-round championship bout for the vacant Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) female super bantamweight world title between Providence’s Shelito Vincent (12-0, 1 KO) and Jackie Trivilino (9-8-3, 1 KO) of Plattsburgh, N.Y., but the undercard promises to be equally competitive from top to bottom.

“Winner Take All” is an all-ages show. Tickets for the event are on sale now for $40, $100 and $126 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com, at the Twin River Box Office or by phone at 401-724-2253/2254. The 30-year-old Charles, born in Haiti, has made his living fighting competitively in New Jersey and Philadelphia, including bouts against Rod Salka, who recently battled unbeaten Philly prospect Danny Garcia; and undefeated prospects Bryant Cruz, Rolando Chinea and Mike Reed, who have a combined record of 32-0-1. Charles’ record also includes wins over former regional title challengers Anthony Flores and Victor Vasquez.

DeLomba’s opponent, Abreu, brings a long resume of knockout victories to the table in his Twin River debut. Born in Santo Domingo, the 22-year-old Abreu won five of his first seven fights by knockout and also sent his most recent opponent, unbeaten welterweight prospect Sammy Vasquez, crashing to the canvas in the second round of their scheduled six-round bout in February, still the only knockdown on Vasquez’s flawless professional record of 16 bouts.

Angel Camacho Jr. (12-0, 4 KOs), the undefeated super middleweight from Johnston, R.I., returns for the first time in more than three years in a tough test against hard-hitting veteran Tylon Burris (5-2, 3 KOs) of Hartford, Conn., another fight that could steal the thunder from the main event.

“Winner Take All” also features New Bedford, Mass., prospects Ray Oliveira Jr. and Scott Sullivan, who will be featured in separate bouts. After winning their pro debuts in September, Oliveira Jr. (1-0, 1 KO) and Sullivan (1-0, 1 KO), both protégés of former world-title challenger Ray Oliveira Sr., are back at it on November 7th. Sullivan faces unbeaten lightweight Oscar Bonilla (2-0-1) of New Haven, Conn., while Oliveira Jr. takes on 6-foot-3 super middleweight Mike Rodriguez (0-1), an accomplished amateur from Springfield, Mass., who also debuted at Twin River last year when he faced Rhode Island’s KJ Harrison-Lombardi. Warwick, R.I., super middleweight and Air Force veteran Zack Christy (1-0), who also debuted in September, returns in a four-round bout against Springfield’s Pedro Joquin (0-1). Unbeaten Worcester, Mass., middleweight prospect Khiary Gray-Pitts (2-0, 1 KO) will also be featured on the undercard in a separate four-round bout.

Englebrecht Signs Another Blue Chip Boxer OC Debut on December 4th

In the sports world when they talk about the signing of a blue chip athlete it usually means someone who has all the necessary tools to be a success. Well in the signing of pro boxer Luis “The Mayor” Mora, Southern California fight promoter Roy Englebrecht feels he has a blue chip athlete to showcase to his fans, and build into a solid contender. Mora, is a 2013 graduate of Cal State Los Angeles with a degree in criminal justice, is 4-0 as a pro and his return to the ring on December 4th could see a major celebrity in the crowd.

“I am excited that Luis has decided to sign with us, and what is very rewarding to me is that this is the second college graduate boxer we have signed in the past year, as Daniel Kim out of UC Irvine was our first,” said Englebrecht. “Luis to me is definitely a blue chip prospect as he had a great amateur career, has not tasted defeat in his short pro career as a jr welterweight, is a college graduate, and has a full time job with the City of Los Angeles. With a 4-0 record I know our Fight Club OC fans will like his aggressiveness as he has three knockouts in his four wins.”

Mora, started boxing in 2001 at the age of 12at the Los Angeles Youth Athletic Club, and was coached by Hector “Shark” Rodriguez. In 2005 Mora won the National Junior Golden Gloves title and in 2009 he fought in the U.S. Opens in Colorado Springs after winning the district and regional tournament. He turned pro in 2011 under the management guidance of Jorge Madrigal from Ringstar Entertainment.

“It is a blessing and honor to be signing this promotional deal with Roy Englebrecht Promotions and becoming part of the family. I have been waiting for an opportunity to be picked by a promoter since 2011, and I couldn’t ask for a better one than Roy who has been such a great ambassador for boxing,” said Mora. “My record speaks for itself and after being ducked by undefeated fighters, finally an opportunity has arrived to showcase my talent once and for all.”

When Mora makes his OC debut on December 4th he might have a big time political name in his corner, as he works full time for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and hence his nickname “The Mayor”.

Tickets for Luis “The Mayor” Mora’s Fight Club OC debut on Thursday, December 4th, can be purchased online at www.fightcluboc.com.

2012 OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALIST YAMAGUCHI FALCAO GETS REMATCH WITH MARTIN FIDEL RIOS ON NOVEMBER 15

LOS ANGELES (October 27, 2014) – Golden Boy Promotions returns to the airwaves of Globosat in Brazil on Saturday, November 15 with an exciting card featuring several clashes between Brazil and Argentina, as well the latest bout of Olympic Bronze medalist Yamaguchi Falcao.

Making a special appearance will be former WBO and WBA Super Featherweight Champion, and two-time WBO Lightweight Champion, Acelino “Popo” Freitas. The future hall of famer looks forward to supporting his fellow countrymen as they enter the ring on November 15.

In an eight-round middleweight matchup, Vitoria, Brazil’s Falcao puts his unbeaten record on the line in a rematch against Argentina’s Martin Fidel Rios. In January, the two met for the first time, with a controversial no contest verdict being rendered. Next month, they get the chance to face off again at the Ginasio Municipal Falcao – Praia Grande in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The main event on November 15th will be contested over 10 rounds for the WBO Latino Super Welterweight Title, as Santos’ unbeaten Patrick Teixeira faces off with Argentina’s Ulises “Cloroformo” Lopez. In the 10-round televised opener, Brazil’s own Carlos “Falcao” Nascimento battles Argentina’s Alejandro “Mojarra” Valori.

“PRAIA GRANDE, BOXE GRANDE” is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Arano Box Promotions and sponsored by IBG. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. UTC/GMT and the first fight begins at 9:00 p.m. UTC/GMT. The Globosat broadcast begins at 10:30 p.m. UTC/GMT.

One of the most accomplished amateurs in Brazilian boxing history, 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist Yamaguchi Falcao (2-0, 1 KO, 1 NC) is currently unbeaten as a professional, but the 26-year-old southpaw has one blemish on his record that he wants to clear up on November 15. In his professional debut in January against La Pampa’s Martin Fidel Rios (13-2-2, 7 KOs, 1 NC), the two showed up to fight and were on their way to an entertaining bout when they were both controversially disqualified for hitting after the bell. The result was later ruled a no contest, but next month the two will battle it out once more to settle the score.

23-year-old southpaw Patrick Teixeira (23-0, 19 KOs) is considered to be Brazil’s top candidate for world title honors in the coming year, but his performance against Ulises Lopez (28-4, 16 KOs) will be key in finding out if he’s ready for the 154-pound elite. A ferocious puncher with 13 wins coming in two rounds or less, Teixeira will be pushed by Lopez, who has won eight of his last 10 bouts.

Hometown Sao Paulo favorite Carlos Nascimento (14-0, 13 KOs) has garnered a significant fan following since he began fighting professionally in 2013, and he will have the crowd on his side in his showdown with 31-year-old veteran Alejandro Valori (17-3, 11 KOs) of Buenos Aires, a fighter who has no problem stepping into his opponent’s backyard in search of victory.

Giovani Santillan, Rising Star, Successfully Defends Title on “New Blood”

ORANGE, Calif. (Oct. 27, 2014) – Giovani Santillan is gradually blossoming from a top-tier prospect, to a high level contender. His latest performance, an 8-round unanimous decision win over the power punching Luis Solis, only cemented his reputation as a future disruptor in the junior welterweight division.

Santillan (15-0, 8 KOs) was a mixture of style and substance during the defense of his NABF Jr. Championship that he won in August. Behind a steady, picture-perfect jab and a high guard, Santillan proved nearly unhittable through eight rounds.

“I’m a serious boxer that values hard work, determination, and discipline,” said the 22-year-old Santillan. “We had a great game plan and we stuck with it, and it turned into a sweet victory for us.”

Santillan, a southpaw from San Diego, pressured the taller Solis (14-5-4, 12 KOs) onto the ropes and into the corners throughout most of the 8-round fight. To score points, he mixed an effective right jab with a solid left hook. He was never in trouble during the first title defense, of any kind, in his brief, yet stellar career.

“I knew it was going to be a tough fight because Solis is a gamer and he’s known to be a fighter that never backs down,” Santillan said. “I just had to stick with what works and let my talent take over in the later rounds.”

“It’s no secret that we have high hopes for Giovani,” said Ken Thompson, president and founder of Thompson Boxing Promotions. “He’s a strong junior welterweight with some serious skills.”

Super bantamweight Isaac Zarate (9-1-1, 1 KO) showed why he is one of the hottest prospects in Southern California by dominating the previously unbeaten Fernando Samaniego (6-1-1, 3 KOs) through 8-rounds in the “New Blood” co-main event. The one-sided unanimous decision (79-73×3) win earned Zarate, a southpaw, the NABF Jr. Super Bantamweight Championship.

“It’s a great accomplishment, one that I will remember for a long time,” said Zarate, who is from the Los Angeles port city of San Pedro. “I figured Samaniego out early and was able to land combinations early. I timed his movements, worked my jab, and got the win.”

Featherweight Fernando Fuentes (5-3, 1 KO) of Hemet, Calif. earned his first KO win by knocking out Erick Aguirre (4-5-1, 2 KOs) of Tijuana, Mex. in the sixth and final round. In the third, Fuentes dropped Aguirre with a series of shots. Aguirre would beat the count, but he never looked the same after that. From that point forward, Fuentes slowly wore him down and finally poured it on late in the sixth to secure the knockout win.

Francisco Lapizco (7-0, 2 KOs) and Cesar Sustaita (3-1, 3 KOs), two promising light flyweight prospects from Mexico, produced a back-and-forth fight that featured two knockdowns and non-stop action. Sustaita struck first in the opening round with a counter left hook that dropped Lapizco. Lapizco shook it off, and in the second, delivered his own left hook that sent Sustaita airborne and onto the canvas.

Throughout the 4-round fight, Lapizco showed a stronger command of the ring, while Sustaita appeared to tire by the third. Lapizco capitalized on this and outworked Sustaita over the final two rounds. His favorite punch, a left hook upstairs, landed repeatedly. Lapizco takes home a unanimous decision win (38-36×3).

Thompson Boxing Promotions signed Lapizco to an exclusive promotional contract earlier this year.

In the opening bout, power-punching heavyweight prospect Mario Heredia (9-1, 7 KOs) of Ciudad Juarez, Mex. landed early and often against Roy McCrary (3-2, 3 KOs) of Las Vegas. Heredia won via unanimous decision (40-36, 39-37, 40-36).

“New Blood” was presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Lucas Oil, in association with KCAL 96.7 FM Rocks!, KOLA 99.9 FM, and LATV Networks.

Q & A with Jr. Welterweight contender Emanuel Taylor

Fresh off his spirited effort against three-division world champion Adrein Broner on September 6, Jr. Welterweight contender Emanuel Taylor (18-3, 12 KO’s) opens up about the fight and his future aspirations which he candid about wanting the best fights and becoming a world champion early in 2015

1. After your performance with Broner, Your stock was raised. How do you feel after that performance?

I feel real good. I am ready to get back into the ring. Iam ready to show the world what I got. I have a huge fan base after that fight. They want to see me back in the ring ASAP. I am ready to get back in there in December or January.

2. You proved that you belong to be able to fight the elite fighters. You feel that you are fully entrenched to be mentioned for big fights?

I sure Hope so. I feel that I only should be fighting the fights on HBO or Showtime. I am ready right now to fight all the big dogs.

3. You have been mentioned for some big fights like Khan. He just signed to fight Alexander. Who are the guys that you are looking at to fight.

I would have liked that fight with Khan. I see Mauricio Herrera has a fight coming up (against Jose Benavidez). Jesse Vargas is another one. Zab Judah–I will fight him right now. Then we will from there. I see up and coming prospects Frankie Gomez. He is a good fighter. I would like to fight him as well.

4. Give me a perfect scenario for you. Do you see another fight before the end of the year? Where do you expect to be by this time next year?

Hopefully I get another fight before the end of the year or January. By this time next year, I will be a world champion. I will have a belt in the 140-pound division then go up to 147 pounds for the rest of my career.

(Co-Manager) Doc Nowicki–His management team and coaching team. We were struggling to get an opponent but we got hooked up with Star Boxing. Maybe we can get a rematch with Chris Algieri. Next year at this time, I would like to see Emanuel defending his world title

5. If you got a call tomorrow for a good fight at 147 pounds. Is that an issue.

Not at all. I fought the beginning of my career at 147. It wasn’t that type of competition. But I can handle it.

(Co-Manager) Dave Price– We spar with the likes of Julian Williams, Kermit Cintron so we know he can handle 147 pounder’s. We would like to fight the bigger guys at 140. No disrespect to Danny Garcia but we would love to get a shot at him.

6. How about a fight with your fellow Beltway resident Lamont Peterson?

Me and Lamont have similar styles. I have been in with him in the gym a couple times. I give him a lot of respect. I would like to get in the ring with him too.

7. How do you like this new fan base, new found fortune?

I like it a lot. I am starting to see it especially on my social media. It gives me more motivation to get another fight. It also makes me train harder.

8. Any final thoughts?

I want to thank D & D Management Team, my co-manager Felix Dialosio & my promoter Star Boxing for taking my career to the next level I want to shout my trainer, my father. I will have a world championship around my waist. I will have that pretty soon. I can’t wait to get back in the ring on HBO or Showtime for my next fight and take it from there.

Co-featured is a 10-round featherweight WBC FECARBOX Featherweight Title bout between fast rising Dominican contender and former world title challenger CLAUDIO MARRERO, 16-1-0 (12KO’s) and JUAN ANTONIO “Zurdo” RODRIGUEZ, 26-5-0 (23KO’s) of Puebla, Mexico.

The 25-year-old Marrero is riding a two-bout winning streak in 2014 since challenging Jesus Cuellar on August 23, 2013 for the WBA “Interim” Featherweight World Title.

In a very hard fought 12-round war, Marrero came up just short on the judge’s scorecards in the nationally televised war.

Rodriguez will be making the third start of his 2014 campaign, most recently facing undefeated and world ranked contender Javier Fortuna on May 31st in the main event of a card telecast on HBO from Las Vegas.

Despite losing the 10-round decision, the 26-year-old Rodriguez stamped himself as one of the best featherweights in the world with his skilled performance.

In a special attraction eight round battle, 2012 Ukrainian Olympian IEVGEN “The Lion” KHYTROV, 6-0-0 (6KO’s), now fighting out of Brooklyn, New York, will face off against LOUIS ROSE, 11-1-1 (3KO’s), of Lynwood, California.

With his stunning knockouts in each of his first six bouts, the 26-year-old Khytrov has thrilled fans across the country as he quickly climbs in the ranks of boxing’s glamour division.

Fighting in front of a huge crowd in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a nationally televised audience on August 8th, Khytrov brutally dismantled Detroit based veteran Willie Fortune with a stunning first round stoppage.

The 25-year-old upset minded Rose, will look to stay undefeated in 2014 having won all three of his starts. On August 23rd, Rose scored a 10-round round unanimous decision over Dashon Johnson in Tacoma, Washington.

Topping the undercard, local fan favorite and undefeated heavyweight prospect WES “Cherokee Warrior” NOFIRE will clash with TY “The Tyger” COBB of Wichita Falls, Texas, in the main event on November 21.

Compiling a record of 15-0-0 (11KO’s), the hard-hitting, 28-year-old, Nofire of nearby Tahlequah, Oklahoma, has quickly become one of the hottest prospects in the heavyweight division. Now training in Miami, Florida, Nofire looks to close out his 2014 campaign in style.

On September 26th, Nofire impressed the Dallas, Texas fight fans with a six-round unanimous decision over veteran Earl Ladson.

Cobb, 18-5-0 (10KO’s), is looking to derail the Nofire train, having won both his starts in 2014, most recently defeating Richard Dawson on August 23rd in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Also featured in separate bouts on the undercard will be fast rising and undefeated prospects; junior lightweight MOISES “Chuky” FLORES, 21-0-0 (15KO’s), of Guadalajara, Mexico, FREDDIE ROACH trained super middleweight RONALD AKEEM ELLIS, 9-0-0 (7KO’s) of Los Angeles, California, along with Puerto Rican welterweight SAMUEL FIGUEROA, 5-0-0 (3KO’s) in addition to Brooklyn, New York’s SERGIY DEREVYANCHENKO, 2-0-0 (1KO).

RABCHENKO: “I WILL WIN OVER AUSSIE FANS”

SERGEY RABCHENKO believes a devastating performance against Anthony Mundine will earn him a new army of fans.

The Belarusian power-puncher knows a partisan crowd will baying for his blood when the opening bell rings at the Hisense Arena on November 12, but he’s confident that they will be singing his name by the end of the fight.

While Mundine splits opinion in the Aussie fight fraternity, he does have a large and vociferous following and Rabchenko hopes to win their hearts rather than break them.

“The crowd will start against me and that is no problem because they can’t fight for him,” Rabchenko, who defends his WBC Silver light-middleweight title, said.

“I think they will cheer for Mundine at the start but then cheer for me when they see the skills that I have and the power of my punches.

“Australian fans like to see action and that is what I will give them. I think the combinations I have been working on with Ricky Hatton will be too much for Mundine and the fans will really like what they see.”

Despite being confident that he has the tools to defeat Mundine on his own turf, Sergey knows he cannot overlook the experienced and outspoken New South Wales-native.

Mundine is a three-time world champion who has mixed it with the likes of Mikkel Kessler, Daniel Geale and Shane Mosley since switching from Rugby League and is still a formidable opponent for anyone despite being 39 years of age.

“I am fully focused on Mundine. He has won many world titles and will be a very tough fight for me,” Rabchenko said.

“He is a great, great fighter and he knows he must win if he wants to box for a world title again. I have to be ready for him at his best.

“He was beaten badly in his last fight [against Joshua Clottey] so I expect him to be very fired up. I just think I hit too hard for him and after a few rounds he will not want to be in the ring with me any longer. I will break him”.

Rabchenko v Mundine tops a huge night of boxing at the Hisense Arena in Melbourne, with chief supporting contests including Lucas Browne’s WBC EPBC heavyweight title clash with Chauncy Welliver and Leonardo Zappavigna v Misael Castillo for the WBO Oriental light-welterweight crown.

Melson to Speak at United States Military Academy!

Boyd_Melson_army_photo_2
New York, NY (October 26, 2014) – Junior middleweight boxer, West Point grad and charitable figure Captain Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson has been invited to speak at a leadership development series at the United States Military Academy at West Point Monday, October 27.

For the leadership development, Melson will host a one hour interactive discussion with a group of approximately 40 high ranking cadets that excel academically and have peer leadership positions.

Melson graduated from the USMA at West Point in 2003 with a degree in psychology and put on a pair of boxing gloves for the first time as a plebe (freshman) for a required course. After joining West Point’s boxing team and excelling in the squared circle on an international level, he was selected as an alternate for the 2008 United States Olympic Boxing Team, but withdrew due to an injury. During his senior year at West Point he met Christan Zaccagnino, who became paralyzed from the waist down after a diving accident when she was 10. The two quickly became close and Melson’s ultimate goal in life is to see her walk again.

With Zaccagnino as his inspiration, Melson turned pro in 2010 and has donated 100% of his fight purses to Teamfighttowalk.com and Justadollarplease.org to help find a cure for Chronic Spinal Cord Injuries. To further assist with fundraising efforts, Melson and Zaccagnino hosted the “Fighting for the Cure” gala the last two years, raising a significant amount of money in the process.

“This will be one of the greatest and most proud moments of my entire life,” said Melson, who has been featured along with Zaccagnino on HBO Real Sports, ESPN.com, Yahoo and Sports Illustrated. “I’m an extremely proud West Pointer and my boxing trunks have “West Point 03” on them for a reason. It’s an incredible honor that they thought of me for this event because there are so many West Point graduates worthy of the opportunity.”

World Championship double-header in Oldenburg: Hernandez to defend IBF title against Afolabi

yoan_pablo_hernandez
Boxing fans can look forward to a double-header of world championship action on December 6 at the EWE Arena in Oldenburg, Germany. In addition to Juergen Braehmer’s scheduled WBA World Light Heavyweight title defence against Pawel Glazewski, Cuban cruiserweight king Yoan Pablo Hernandez (29-1, 14 KOs) will co-headline with a mandatory defence of his IBF World title against Ola Afolabi (21-3-4, 10 KOs).

‘’Team Sauerland stands for first-class boxing entertainment,’’ said Frederick Ness, Managing Director of Sauerland Event. ‘’This is something we wanted to emphasise by bringing fans two world championship fights on December 6.’’

Yoan Pablo Hernandez, is back in action following a successful defence of his IBF title against Firat Arslan in August. The ‘Iron Man’ is looking forward to an immediate return having previously suffered periods of inactivity due to illness and injury.

‘’It seems that all my bad luck has run out,’’ joked Hernandez. ‘’After my last fight I was able to get straight back into the gym and start preparing for my next challenge. This has been the first time I’ve been able to do that since early 2011, when I beat Herelius. Now, I want to show everyone that I belong at the top of the cruiserweight division by beating my mandatory challenger Afolabi.’’

Afolabi is no stranger to German boxing fans having previously made life difficult for WBO Champion Marco Huck. The American-based Brit scored one draw and two narrow losses in a memorable trilogy against Hernandez’s long-time training mate.

Hernandez’s coach Ulli Wegner, who was in Huck’s corner for each of his encounters with Afolabi, has offered the following warning to his protégé ahead of the world championship clash in Oldenburg. ‘’Afolabi knows every trick in the book – he’s a very experienced fighter,’’ said the legendary 72 year-old coach. ‘’If Pablo turns up at anything less than 100% he could be in serious trouble.’’

Hernandez, who also holds the prestigious ‘Ring Magazine’ cruiserweight title, has attempted to ease his coach’s concerns, promising: ‘’On December 6, I will give Mr. Wegner his first clear victory in a fight against Afolabi!’’

Tickets for the Team Sauerland show at the EWE Arena in Oldenburg are available at eventim.de.

IT’S ON! GGG GOLOVKIN VS MARTIN MURRAY

Gennady Golovkin
Monaco, October 25 — The deal has been signed – unbeaten WBA, IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (31-0, 28 KOs) of Kazakhstan will fight top-rated Martin Murray (28-1-1, 12 KOs) of the UK in Monte Carlo on February 21.

Golden Gloves and K2 Promotions announced the bout minutes after Murray’s successful WBC Silver belt defence against Domenico Spada in Monaco on Saturday.
Golovkin will go in search of his record 19th straight stoppage while Murray will be hoping it is third time lucky after two previous title bids were rebuffed by the judges.
“Murray is generally regarded as the best middleweight outside the world champions,” said promoter Rodney Berman. “As we all know, he’s a world champion without a belt. He won’t be intimidated for one second fighting ‘GGG’, unlike all of Golovkin’s challengers.”
Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions agreed. “Arguably, Martin Murray will be the toughest opponent Gennady has ever faced. It’s a great way to follow up the Marco Antonio Rubio win: coming back to Europe and Monte Carlo against a top-rated middleweight contender.
“It fits in perfectly as Murray has shown he is world class and Gennady wants to continue to prove himself the most exciting fighter out there. Gennady is making big inroads in the US, but it’s also important for the fight to be in primetime in Europe where he has so many fans.”
Murray has won four fights since dropping a narrow decision to then-WBC champion Sergio Martinez in 2013, the last two of which were in Monte Carlo.
Golovkin has won 13 straight world championship fights – all by stoppage – on his way to confirming his status as the world’s most exciting boxer.
He has also fought twice before in Monte Carlo, beating Nobuhiro Ishida in 2013 and Osumanu Adama in February.
He was ringside in Monte Carlo on Saturday and said: “It feels great to get this fight. Murray is a great fighter, very strong. I remember the Sergio Martinez bout; it was an amazing fight. Along with Matthew Macklin and Daniel Geale, Murray is one of the best pure boxers in the division.
“I like to test myself. I’m giving him a chance and for Europe this is the biggest fight in the middleweight division. It is important to fight here, where many of my fans and followers are
Said Murray: “I think he’s a top fighter. He’s crushed everybody he’s been in with, but I’ve got the tools to beat any middleweight out there. I wouldn’t be taking the fight if I didn’t think I could win. A lot of his opponents have gone into the fight already beat. You won’t get that with me. I’m gonna go in there and stand up to him.”
Berman rates Golovkin highly, but believes that Murray has a chance of an upset.
“I have the highest regard for Golovkin, but the truth is his opponents have been sitting ducks. Out of fear, they lose the fight before they step into the ring; they’re intimidated and scared. You look at Murray’s background and just know he won’t be cowered. He’s the first guy I’ve seen who will create angles, who won’t stand in front of Golovkin waiting to be hit. Murray will make Golovkin work. He has the ability to outhustle him,” said the man who has famously promoted a number of major upsets over the years.
These include Hasim Rahman’s KO of heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis, Corrie Sanders’ blowout of Wladimir Klitschko and Vuyani Bungu’s shock win over unbeaten Kennedy McKinney.
“It doesn’t get better than coming back to Monte Carlo,” added Loeffler. “The atmosphere is electric and Gennady enjoys it. He makes every fight an exciting fight because of his style. Every opponent has a plan . . . until they feel Gennady’s first punch.”
The undercard, Berman assured, would be top rate.

DARLEYS PEREZ RETAINS WBA INTERIM TITLE WITH 6TH ROUND KNOCKOUT

COLOMBIA (Oct. 25, 2014) – Last night at the Coliseo Universidad Del Norte in Barranquilla, Colombia, hometown hero Darleys Perez (31-1, 20 KOs) successfully defended his WBA interim Lightweight title with a 6th round knockout over Jaider Parra (23-2-1, 12 KOs).

Perez, who is the mandatory challenger to face current WBA champion Richar Abril, was thrilled with his recent victory and now looks forward to regaining his status as one of the best lightweight in the world.

“I wanted to make a statement and show my people of Colombia that I’m for real,” said Perez. “In the early rounds I was feeling him out and then started to get into a rhythm. That’s when my punches started to land more cleanly. After the fifth round I knew he wouldn’t last much longer. In the sixth round I finally ended the bout with a nice body shot. I’m ready to fight Abril for the championship. My promoters Gary Shaw and Thompson boxing said they are working hard to get me that fight. I can’t wait!”

Perez is co-promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions. The event was host to the WBA KO Drugs celebration. For more information, please visit www.ThompsonBoxing.com and
