BOXNATION SECURE SUPERSTAR PACQUIAO’S RING RETURN AGAINST UNDEFEATED ALGIERI ON EVE OF POUND-FOR-POUND KING MAYWEATHER’S MEGAFIGHT WITH MAIDANA

Manny Pacquiao
LONDON (Sep 12) – Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s ring return against undefeated Chris Algieri has landed on BoxNation, with the Filipino legend joining fellow pound-for-pound star Floyd Mayweather on ‘The Channel of Champions’.

The exciting news of Pacquiao’s bout comes on the eve of Mayweather’s blockbuster showdown with Argentine banger Marcos Maidana this Saturday night, live and exclusive on boxing’s undisputed number one channel.

The addition of the ‘Fighter of the Decade’ Pacquiao, however, sees boxing’s two biggest names added to an unbeatable schedule, which also features ‘The Alien’ Bernard Hopkins who is looking to continue his unification of the light-heavyweight division against the fearsome Sergey Kovalev at nearly 50 years of age.

‘Pacman’ is not expected to have things his own way when he faces Algieri, who shocked the boxing world with his masterful and courageous victory over the unrelenting Ruslan Provodnikov in June to capture the WBO light-welterweight title.

The duo will lock horns on November 22nd at the Cotai Arena in Macao, with boxing’s only eight-division world champion Pacquiao defending his WBO welterweight title against the slick New Yorker, who has a record 20 wins in 20 fights.

“You saw Algieri’s last fight against Ruslan Provodnikov. He showed his toughness and he fought good so he deserves this fight. I don’t want to underestimate my opponent,” said Pacquiao, who is coming off an impressive win over Tim Bradley.

“I have to prepare myself 100%. It’s been a while since the fans of Manny Pacquiao have seen the killer instinct like when I fought Cotto, Margarito, de la Hoya, Hatton, and that’s what I’m trying to show in this fight.

“All I can say to his team is train hard and I will train hard so that we can give a good fight and we can entertain people,” added Pacquiao.

Algieri too is in buoyant mood ahead of next month’s showdown and can’t wait to get in the ring to prove he is amongst boxing’s elite.

“We’ve got two champions fighting each other. It’s not something you see very often, especially nowadays you see a lot of guys trying to hold on to their records, hold on to their titles and we’re not afraid to fight the best,” said Algieri.

“I think we need more guys in this sport doing that who aren’t afraid to take challenges and take risks,” he said.

Jim McMunn, Managing Director at BoxNation, said: “Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are the two biggest names in boxing. They might not be sharing the ring with each other but we’re delighted that they will be sharing the same platform on BoxNation. So far all attempts to get them in the ring have failed so we’re delighted it’s BoxNation who have finally been able to bring boxing’s two biggest names together!”

KHAN WILL BE RINGSIDE TO SEE MAYWEATHER-MAIDANA 2 MEGAFIGHT LIVE ON BOXNATION AS HE EYES FUTURE CLASH WITH POUND-FOR-POUND KING

Amir Khan
LONDON (12 Sep) – Former unified light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan has tipped Floyd Mayweather to come through his challenge with Marcos Maidana as he eyes a potential future fight with boxing’s pound-for-pound star.

The Bolton native was highly impressive in his last outing against Luis Collazo at his first fight at welterweight, and will now be ringside in Las Vegas after resolving Visa issues that meant he was unable to travel on Thursday morning.

Khan lands on Saturday afternoon and will be on-hand to cast his eyes over Mayweather and fully expects the current two-weight world champion to outsmart and outthink his way to victory over the hard-hitting Argentine, live this Saturday night on BoxNation.

“The first fight surprised a lot of people, no one expected Floyd to be in such a tough fight with Maidana. Maidana did himself a lot of credit in that fight and gave Floyd problems that not many people expected to see,” said Khan.

“Nevertheless, I think this fight Floyd will be a lot more composed and will know what he’s getting when he faces Maidana. The thing with Maidana is he tends to throw shots from weird angles and it can take you out your stride at first.

“Having shared the ring with him now, I think Floyd is going to be smart, box from the outside and maybe leave Maidana chasing his shadow,” he said.

The 31-year-old Maidana gave Mayweather his toughest fight in years when they first clashed in May.

Despite partial success for Maidana in his gameplan of pressurising the 11-time world champion first time around, Khan believes you have to have more than one trick when taking on a fighter of Mayweather’s calibre.

“Maidana made it a very rough and rugged fight and showed Floyd no respect first time around. His gameplan was to go in there and treat him like he was a nobody. In a way it definitely worked for him because he gave Floyd a tough fight especially early on.

“But against Floyd you can’t go in there with one strategy and think it’s going to see you through the fight because he is very clever, very smart and makes adjustments,” said Khan.

“He’ll do something different and ask you questions and poses different problems round by round. So you might win the first, second and third round but it’s about seeing it through and in the end Maidana just couldn’t do it.”

Many within boxing circles have tipped the 27-year-old Khan himself to be the one fighter who could give Mayweather a real run for his money.

With a plan to be out again at the end of this year Khan is hoping to throw his name into the sweepstakes to take on boxing’s biggest draw.

“It’s a fight that many want to see happen just because our styles would make a very interesting clash. If I keep winning then I think it’s a fight that could definitely happen in the future. Floyd has said the same thing to me in the past,” said Khan.

“For now, I’m out again in December so I’m looking to get my opponent named for that and putting on a great performance in my next fight. But if it makes sense for both sides then it will be a fight that could happen.

“I don’t want to put a timescale on it but I got into this sport to fight the best and at the moment Floyd is ahead of everyone so it would be great to test myself against him,” he said.

It is the speed of the Olympic silver medallist which he deems the key component in overcoming the unbeaten Mayweather, who has a flawless 46-0 record.

“I really believe speed is one of the key components in beating Floyd. Speed of hand and speed of foot – even speed of mind. It’s not the only thing but it’s very important, as is having a good jab and being able to answer the questions he poses,” he said.

“You can’t be one dimensional against Floyd because over and over in his career he has shown that he makes changes to whatever style his opponent comes with.

“Yet, when you look at it up until Maidana the people who have troubled him the most have been people with speed and good movement, those are things I possess,” Khan told BoxNation.

Many believe a Mayweather-Khan superfight at Wembley Stadium could exceed anything seen before at the home of English football.

Khan, however, would happily welcome a bout on home soil but is aware any decision would ultimately be Mayweather’s.

“I would love to bring a fight of that scale back home but I think it would be very difficult. Floyd tends to have all his fights at the MGM Grand. I know he has spoke about coming over here and fighting so you never know.

“He has a big fanbase here and I have a big fanbase so it would make sense. To fight Floyd at Wembley would be an unbelievable experience but at the end of the day Floyd is in the position where he decides who and where he wants to fight,” said Khan.

ADRIANO MORAES CROWNED INAUGURAL ONE FC FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION IN MAIN EVENT OF ONE FC: RISE OF THE KINGDOM

12 September 2014 – Phnom Penh, Cambodia: Asia’s largest mixed martial arts organization with a 90% market share, ONE Fighting Championship™ (ONE FC), put on a dazzling display of world-class mixed martial arts action to the delight of a packed crowd at the Koh Pich Theatre in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for ONE FC: RISE OF THE KINGDOM. In the main event, Adriano Moraes captured the inaugural ONE FC Flyweight World Championship, defeating Geje Eustaquio by submission in round 2.

In an intense war for the ONE FC Flyweight World Championship, Adriano Moraes defeated Geje Eustaquio by submission in the second round after he pulled a Guillotine Choke. The first round was close as Moraes kept his distance from Eustaquio by circling out of range as the Filipino was controlling the action with his pinpoint strikes. In the second, Moraes pressed Eustaquio up against the cage and went for the Guillotine, pulling Eustaquio down to the mat and securing the hold with a body triangle. Eustaquio tried desperately to escape but the choke was in too deep and the Filipino was forced to tap out.

Caros Fodor overcame a very tough and game Vincent Latoel to win by submission in round 2 via Rear Naked Choke. Fodor ended the first round with an armlock attempt that saw Latoel writhing in pain. Latoel was saved by the bell. Much of the fight was spent grinding in a close wrestling scrap that saw both fighters have their moments but Fodor started to pull away in the second with some solid ground and pound. In the final moments of the second round, Fodor locked in the choke and Latoel had no choice but to tap out.

In the Cambodian Featherweight Grand Prix Final, Chan Rothana and Sam Ang Dun went to war for the brief moment the fight lasted. In the heat of battle, Rothana spun wildly for a spinning wheel kick and landed on Dun’s head. After a halt to the action that saw Dun unable to recover, Dun was awarded the victory by disqualification due to an illegal stomp to the head, winning the Cambodian Featherweight Grand Prix trophy.

In a highly electric battle between two game warriors, Arnaud Lepont viciously stopped Suasday Chau with a barrage of elbows and hammer strikes from top position, winning by TKO in the first round. Fans were on their feet as both fighters traded strikes wildly at the center of the cage. In the middle of the action, the fight was paused momentarily after Lepont went for a head stomp on a downed Chau. Chau was allowed a few minutes to recover, but could not get back into the fight competitively. When action resumed, Lepont immediately swarmed Chau who could not defend himself.

In a very entertaining scrap, evenly matched fighters Radeem Rahman and Sung Ming Yen battled in an intense war of strikes. After a few close exchanges, Rahman ended the first round with a Rear Naked Choke attempt as Sung was saved by the bell. The second round saw a much more focused striking effort on the part of Sung, who repeatedly got the better of the exchanges by staggering Rahman on multiple occasions. In the third round, Sung completely dominated Rahman with well placed combinations and multiple takedowns, earning the nod of the judges as he wins by Unanimous Decision.

Amir Khan and Jian Kai Chee put on an intense striking battle for fans in attendance. The two fighters wasted no time, viciously exchanging strikes at the center of the cage from the beginning of the fight. Khan staggered Chee with a knee to the face and followed up with a barrage of unanswered strikes. Chee was unable to defend himself as the referee stepped in to award Khan the victory in round 1.

In a dominant performance, Meas Meu impressively submitted bigger and taller opponent Chan Heng in the first round, winning by Rear Naked Choke. Meu landed an overhand right moments into the fight and shot for the takedown. He went to work on Heng with a series of elbows that opened up a cut on Heng’s face, turning the canvas into a bloody mess. Meu then transitioned to take Heng’s back and secured the submission.

Sam Ang Dun showcased his speed and tenacity, defeating Chin Heng by vicious knockout in the first round. Dun found himself on his back early on but was able to reverse position and wound up on top. Heng caught Dun’s arm in a deep armbar but Dun was able to yank his right arm out of trouble. Dun then threw two thunderous right hands to the head of his downed opponent. Heng was clearly defenseless and the referee stepped in to stop the fight.

In a battle of fierce Featherweights, Chan Rothana defeated Prak Chansin by TKO in the first round as he landed a series of unanswered strikes from full mount. After staggering Chansin with a head kick, Rothana shot for the takedown and ended up in dominant position where he unleashed a barrage of fists on his defenseless opponent.

In a catchweight bout, Vy Srey Chai and Tharoth Sam kicked things off with a fight on the ground. Tharoth was able to grind her way into full mount moments into the first round, quickly transitioning into a very deep armbar that saw Chai’s arm hyperextended. The referee stopped the fight and awarded Tharoth the submission victory.

Gingras outworks McCreedy in title bout

LINCOLN, R.I. (Sept. 12th, 2014) – Rich Gingras officially has two titles to his name. Now he wants a third.

After beating Joey McCreedy by unanimous decision in the main event Friday night at Twin River Casino, defending his New England Light Heavyweight title and capturing McCreedy’s Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Northeast title, Gingras has his eyes set on settling the score with another popular regional foe.

Asked who he wants to fight next, Gingras, without hesitation, said, “Vladine Biosse,” referring to the reigning N.E. Super Middleweight Champion from Providence, R.I., who defended his belt against Gingras in July of 2013 in a controversial draw.

“I want that super middleweight belt. I want all three,” he said. “It’s mine to begin with. I want it back.”

After a slow start against McCreedy (15-8-2), Gingras (15-4-1) began to pour it on in the middle rounds, using his strength to his advantage by burying right and left hooks to the body. McCreedy got his second win in the seventh and eighth, pressing forward despite absorbing overhand rights from Gingras, leaving the outcome of the fight hanging in the balance once the final bell rang. Gingras won on all three scorecards, 80-72, 79-73, 76-72.

In a fight billed as a brawl reminiscent of the legendary Rocky Marciano-Joe Louis showdown from 1951, Louisiana’s Alvin Varmall Jr. (3-0, 3 KOs) spoiled the homecoming of “Little Rocky” Antonio Mignella (3-1), stopping Mignella at the end of the second round with an overhand right to the temple.

Born in Providence and now living in Louisiana, Mignella used short, effective punches to score early against Varmall, but the hard-hitting Varmall got the last laugh at the 2:42 mark of the second round, sending Mignella face-first to the canvas with an overhead. Mignella got up, but stumbled into the ropes, forcing referee Joey Lupino to appropriately stop the bout.

Cranston, R.I., welterweight Nick DeLomba (5-0) remained unbeaten, outworking the veteran Christian Steele (4-10-2) of Atlanta in a six-round unanimous decision, 60-54, on all three scorecards. DeLomba used his high-volume output and boxed effectively on angles to keep Steele at bay. Steele tried to empty the tank in the final round and land his overhand right to score an upset knockout, but the crafty DeLomba stayed out of harm’s way to earn his fifth victory.

Making his second appearance at Twin River in 2014, Worcester, Mass., super welterweight Khiary Gray-Pitts (2-0) took another step forward, beating dangerous brawler Sergio Cabrera (0-3) of Boston by unanimous decision, 40-36, on all three scorecards.

Gray-Pitts used his lethal combination of speed and power to outbox Cabrera in the first two rounds until Cabrera egged him on in an attempt to turn it into a street fight. Gray-Pitts obliged for the third round before going back to the style that worked in the final round, picking his shots and breaking down Cabrera with combinations to the body.

Following in the footsteps of his father, “Sucra” Ray Oliveira, New Bedford, Mass., super welterweight Ray Oliveira Jr. (1-0, 1 KO) turned in an impressive performance in his professional debut, outworking the game Angel Valdez (0-1) of Providence to earn the stoppage late in the third round.

Similar to the way his father fought during his heyday, Oliveira Jr. attacked Valdez with a high volume of punches and eventually broke him down with a combination of jabs and overhand rights, forcing Lupino to stop the bout at the 2:21 mark.

Another protégé of Oliveira, New Bedford’s Scott Sullivan (1-0, 1 KO) earned a win in his debut Friday in similar fashion, using patience to pick apart the unorthodox Moises Rivera (0-4) of Boston. Rivera’s unconventional stance forced Sullivan to pick his spots, but once he began working the body in the second round, Rivera buckled under the pressure. Sullivan earned the stoppage at the 1:26 mark of the second round.

U.S. Air Force veteran Zack Christy (1-0) of Warwick, R.I. (Tampa, Fla.), a protégé of the late Tiny Ricci, also won his debut, beating Framingham, Mass., super middleweight Saul Almeida (0-6) by unanimous decision, 40-36, on all three scorecards. Despite Almeida’s five-inch height advantage, Christy worked the body effectively and began to chop down the taller Almeida in the later rounds.

MURRAY UPPING THE ANTE AHEAD OF ‘TITLE TORNADO’

Martin Murray
Monaco/Johannesburg, September 13 – World-rated middleweight Martin Murray began sparring on Friday in anticipation of his October 25 showdown against perennial contender Domenico Spada on the Golden Gloves “Title Tornado” tournament in Monte Carlo.

Murray, rated #1 by the WBC and #3 by the IBF, is engaged in a 10-week training camp under the guidance of trainer Oliver Harrison designed to have him in peak condition for his second outing in the principality.
Murray has been promised a world title bout in February – provided he overcomes the 44-fight battler from Italy. Spada is 39-5 (19 KOs).
Spada, who has fought the likes of Marco Antonio Rubio, Darren Barker and Sebastian Zbik, has won seven of his last eight and is determined to re-enter the title picture by upsetting the man from St Helens in the UK.
“He’s very experienced, you can’t buy that,” said Murray (28-1-1, 12 KOs) from his home. “He’ll fight anyone at any time. What you see is what you get with Spada. He hasn’t got a nice style, but he’s game and comes to win. He’s a tough fighter and he’ll love fighting in Monte Carlo, which will be like his back yard as he lives in Rome.
“He’s gonna come in good condition; he’s got a point to prove. I’m expecting the best, but I’m a level above.”
Given that he is on the cusp of a championship shot, Murray knows that he cannot produce anything less than an outstanding performance next month. “This is why I’m not looking past Spada,” he says. “I’m approaching this like a world title. Whichever Spada turns up, though, I will beat all day long.”
Murray is intrigued by the movement in the middleweight division, much of it remarkable. There is IBF holder Sam Soliman’s on-again off-again fight with Jermain Taylor (who is accused of shooting his cousin), WBA champion Gennady Golovkin’s looming fight with Rubio, Peter Quillin’s decision to vacate the WBO belt and WBC champion Miguel Cotto’s plan not to fight until 2015.
Murray has myriad options, but knows that they will come to naught unless he wins in Monte Carlo.
“The boxing is going really well. I felt I did pretty good against Max Bursak in June and I’ll be looking to do even better against Spada. If I get through this, there’s a world title and that’s the aim.”
Murray has had two title shots in recent years, in the first instance drawing with then-WBA champion Felix Sturm and then, last April, losing a controversial decision to then-WBC champion Sergio Martinez.
Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman, who looks after Murray, is excited at the possibilities.
“The thing no-one can deny about Martin is his boxing smarts. He’s very slick and skilled. There might be bigger punchers out there and more rugged middleweights, but there are few who are smarter than him. He’s well placed to get a title shot, but we can’t get ahead of ourselves. First he has a job to do in Monte Carlo where the Barmy Army will be in full voice backing their man.”
The “Title Tornado” card includes WBA/IBO strawweight champion Hekkie Budler’s title defence against Xiong Zhao Zhong of China, the IBF title fight between Randy Caballero of the US and Stuart Hall of the UK and the WBC Silver light-heavyweight fight between unbeaten prospects Ryno Liebenberg of South Africa and Eleider Alvarez of Colombia.

Galahad to fight Dos Santos for IBF World Youth Title Live on Channel 5 Sept 20th, Ponds Forge

London (12 Sept) Kid Galahad will be looking to add the IBF World Youth Title to his growing collection of titles when he faces unbeaten Brazilian Adeilson Dos Santos at Ponds Forge on Saturday 20th Sept.

The fight will be shown live on Channel 5 in the UK and on SporTV in Brazil and on FightNetwork in Canada and is sponsored by MaxiNutrition.

The fighter from Sheffield who currently holds the European and Commonwealth Super Bantamweight titles is hoping a win over Dos Santos will also be a springboard for him to enter the IBF rankings and get him closer to a shot at the world title he craves.

Kid said “I’m hoping that after beating Dos Santos the IBF will place me very highly in their rankings, the people I have faced and the titles I have won over the last 12 months I feel like I deserve to be in-line for a world title, not many fighters have done what I have done and won the British, Commonwealth and European titles in 3 fights.

“Scott Quigg swerved me even after Mick (Hennessy) my promoter offered him a great purse to fight me, so if I want to become world champion I have to go after Carl Frampton instead and I hope he doesn’t do the same as Quigg and avoid me.”

“If they are man enough to step up, Me, Quigg and Frampton could be the new Eubank, Benn and Watson.”

“But before I can chase them I must overcome Dos Santos, he looks a quality tough fighter, it will be a great fight but I know I will claim that belt at the end of the night to add to my others.” Added Galahad.

The exciting undercard will also see another IBF title up for grabs when Adam Etches fights Samir Santos Barbosa for the IBF International Middleweight title.

Popular Sheffield fighter Scott Jenkins will also be in action along with local fighters Atif Shafiq, Sam O’Maison, Callum Hancock, Jordan Gill of Chatteris and Tyson Fury’s brother Young Fury.

The packed crowd will also see highly regarded featherweight prospect Yusuf Safa from Bexleyheath in action.

Limited tickets for the Hennessy Sports promoted event at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, priced at £35 general admission and £100 ringside are still available to purchase by calling the SIV ticket box office on
0114 223 3777.

Tickets are also available from www.sivtickets.com or in person at the Sheffield City Hall, Crucible Theatre and Motorpoint Arena Sheffield.

JOE DEGUARDIA’S STAR BOXING PRESENTS CLETUS SELDIN HEADLINING “ROCKIN FIGHTS 15” SEPTEMBER 19 AT THE PARAMOUNT

Star Boxing Logo
Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing is proud to present another installment of the popular “Rockin Fights” series on Friday,
Sept. 19th at The Paramount in Huntington, NY.

Headlining the card will be undefeated Jr. Welterweight Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin (13-0 10KO’s) Shirley, NY, takes on tough battle tested Ramesis Gil (8-8-5 5KO’s) Santo Domingo, DR, in the 10 round main event.

In his last appearance at The Paramount on July 18th of this year in a bout televised as part of the popular ESPN “Friday Night Fights” series, Seldin took on veteran Bayan Jargal and as has become the norm for Seldin, waged war with Jargal.

The bout was stopped after 3 rounds due to a cut over Jargal’s eye caused by an accidental errant elbow from Seldin. Seldin had his huge throng of fans on their feet throughout the bout as he and Jargal stood toe to toe for the entire fight with Seldin getting the better of the great two way action.

On Sept. 19th Seldin steps up to the main event testing his skills against another tough as nails veteran Ramesis Gil. Despite a pedestrian record, Gil has gone to war with numerous undefeated prospects such as Karl Dargan, Jorge Maysonet Jr., and Jaime Cavanaugh. In all, Gil has stepped into the ring with ten undefeated prospects throughout his career and always acquits himself well.

This should be a stern test for Seldin who is looking to climb into the world Jr. Welterweight ratings.

Also scheduled to appear in supporting bouts are undefeated Lightweight Alan Gotay (8-0 4KO’s) Huntington, NY taking on Hector Marengo (6-8-4 4KO’s), Arecibo, PR, in an 8 round contest, popular Anthony Karperis, undefeated Heavyweight brawler Constantin Bejenaru, Courtney Pennington, and debuting John Hernandez round out the card.

World champion Chris Algieri will be taking a break from his preparations for his fight vs. Manny Pacquiao (Nov 22 PPV) to join us at The Paramount on sptember 19 for this exciting fight.

The first bout is scheduled for 7:30pm and tickets starting at $50 are available at The Paramount Box Office as well as all Ticketmaster outlets and through Star Boxing.

“MAYHEM: MAYWEATHER VS. MAIDANA 2” TELEVISED UNDERCARD FIGHTERS FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

LAS VEGAS (Sept. 11, 2014) – Fighters on the televised undercard for “MAYHEM: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2” took center stage today at MGM Grand for the final press conference before they enter the ring this Saturday, Sept. 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena live on SHOWTIME® and SHOWTIME PPV®.

Here’s what Thursday’s press conference participants had to say:

LEO SANTA CRUZ, Two-Division World Champion

“I’m very happy to be on this big undercard. This is the biggest card I could possibly be on.

“We trained really hard for this fight. It’s the biggest fight of my life because millions of people will be watching and I need to take advantage of that opportunity.

“I know people think this is going to be an easy fight for me, but you’re going to be surprised Saturday night. I used to spar with Roman and I had to train really hard for him because I know what he brings.

“I don’t underestimate anybody. Every fighter up there is dangerous. I have to go out there and work hard and give it my best to prove I belong here.

“I’ve trained so hard because I know I have a lot of pressure and expectations on me. I know Roman is a great fighter with great punches but we have to go out and do what we always do.

“People have said other Mayweather co-main event fighters are better and I’ve heard that. Because of that, this is definitely the biggest fight I’ve been in and I want to get the win and keep getting better fights.

“I have gotten love from fans too and I appreciate that. It’s because of them that I’m here and I keep training hard to get better every time.

“My brothers and my dad are always with me coming to the gym, watching me spar and it’s because of them that I’m so motivated for this fight.

“I’m looking to get the stoppage. I want it to end before 12 rounds and get him out of there and look good doing it.

“People are saying this is easy but no fight is easy. Anyone can surprise you so I always go out there and train like I’m fighting the best and I’m going to continue doing that.

“If everything goes well with this fight I definitely want to go out and get another belt and unify all the belts in the super bantamweight division.”

MANUEL ROMAN, Super Bantamweight Contender

“I know we’re both well prepared and we know what to expect from each other.

“This is the opportunity of a lifetime and I’m looking to take full advantage of it.

“I know Leo well but this is a business and a tremendous opportunity for me. Winning a world title is every boxer’s dream.

“I’m happy for Leo and the success he’s had, but I’m confident and very well-prepared for our fight on Saturday. This will be a great fight for the fans.”

MIGUEL VAZQUEZ, IBF Lightweight World Champion

“I’m ready and well prepared. I have a tough opponent in Mickey Bey but I’m ready to win.

“I want to dedicate this fight to my family and my team and especially to God for putting me in this position to live my dreams.

“This is definitely a key fight for me and an opportunity to make a name for myself. I’ve been a champion a long time and made six defenses, but I know a lot of fans don’t know who I am. That’s why I am so looking forward to Saturday.

“I think I have extra motivation for this fight because it is my chance to show the world that I am a real champion and that I deserve to be on a card as big as this.

“I’m ready to defend and I am well-prepared for what I know is a tough opponent in Mickey Bey.”

MICKEY BEY, Lightweight Contender

“Saturday I’m going to do my part and make sure it’s a spectacular fight. If you’re not there tune in early and check me and Miguel Vazquez out.

“I’m just waiting until Saturday to put on a show. It’s going to be 36 minutes or less of nothing but fireworks. You’ll have to tune in to see what happens next.

“It’s just another day and another fight for me. I’m going to wait to face-off inside the ring.

“I have the best trainer in the world, the great Floyd Mayweather Sr. I’m looking forward to grinding and getting to the next level of the sport.

“I don’t believe in the hype at all. I believe in going toe-to-toe with someone and seeing what happens after. Vazquez has done something right to be where he is today. He’s the champ for a reason but now he’s fighting me and it’s a new day.

“I don’t look at social media during fight week. I stay away from the negativity. I don’t have time for anything except taking care of business inside the ring.

“I’m going to put on a spectacular performance on Saturday. I take it one fight at a time.”

ALFREDO ANGULO, Middleweight Contender

“I’m ready for this fight at 160, I’m ready to get back to winning.

“Whenever two Mexicans are in the ring it’s a really good show. I believe De La Rosa and ‘El Perro’ will put on a great show.

“At the 160-pound weight division, I am going to be a different animal. You’re going to see the old Alfredo Angulo.

“I’m going to show the fans, the critics and the media that I am ready.

“People are asking me if I am still going to have the power at 160 pounds, I don’t like to talk, I would rather just show it in the ring on Saturday.

“You can expect a spectacular fight. James De La Rosa is coming to win and so am I but I am the only one that is going to walk out victorious.”

JAMES DE LA ROSA, Middleweight Contender

“Come Saturday I’m looking to put on a show for everyone.

“You all haven’t seen my skills but I know you’re going to enjoy the fight.

“I just come out to fight and nothing else matters. After this fight, everyone will become a De La Rosa fan.

“You’ll see everything out of me. I can do everything. I box, jab, punch, and knock out opponents when the opportunity presents itself.

“I always go in looking for the win. If a knockout comes it comes. The W is all that ever matters.

“After this fight everyone will know about me and my skills. Not everyone gets an opportunity to open up a card as big as this. I’m going to put on a show and make a statement.

“The reason I took this fight is because it’s an opportunity to display my skills. It’s my time now.

“I’m the most versatile fighter. Whatever benefits me to win at that moment is what you’ll see me do.”

JOHN MOLINA JR., Junior Welterweight Contender

“A few years back I was just a guy fighting 4-6 rounders and now I’m here today getting ready to fight a great champion.

“You all know how I fight, I come to bring it. I’m going to bring the fireworks for a great show. I know Soto won’t take a backwards step and I wont either.

“We won’t need the judges for this show.

“I’ve had a great camp with my trainer and we added some great tools to my game and we’re ready to put them on display Saturday.

“Humberto Soto is a great champion, he’s experienced at the top level of this game, he’s someone I looked up to and now I get to look across from him in the ring and get it on.

“A win over Soto will put me right where I need to be at 140, whether it’s a rematch with Lucas Matthysse, Adrien Broner or Danny Garcia, that makes this win really important.

“I got my notoriety by taking the scenic route, the back roads and when I get in the ring I try to put it all on the line. I try to put on a show for the people who spend their hard-earned money on these fights.

“It’s been a long exciting road. I didn’t have an extensive amateur career so I had to take the small fights but I made a name for myself and now I’m here at the biggest stage of boxing fighting on a Floyd Mayweather card fighting one of the great past champions of all time in Humberto Soto.”

HUMBERTO SOTO, Junior Welterweight Contender

“I’m very glad to be here on a big showcase again. The winners will be the fans on Saturday night

“Like a true professional I respect John Molina and his team, but in that ring we are enemies and we’re going to put on a great show.

“I know that I am getting into the ring with a quality, tough fighter but I also know that I have my experience in the ring behind me. The years don’t hurt my performance, in fact they add to what I bring into the ring.

“We have studied his fights so we know what to expect. Experience is on our side and that is one of the keys to victory.

“I am very happy to be fighting in Nevada after all of the fights that I have fought. I hope to bring a victory to my fellow Mexican people.

“This could be the fight of the night and I encourage all fans to watch it because they will be in for a treat.

“I am very happy and grateful for this opportunity but I just want to win.”

LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotions

“We’re here today to talk about this wonderful undercard; it’s going to be a terrific show.

“It’s never easy to put together an undercard and we did a great job putting together these fights to give the fans the best show possible on Saturday night.

“I believe that Mickey Bey will emerge victorious Saturday night. He’s worked very hard to get here and been through a lot of ups and downs in his career.

“Mickey Bey knows that he has a very tough opponent in Miguel Vazquez who comes into this fight on a 13-match winning streak dating all the way back to his 2008 loss against a terrific fighter in Canelo Alvarez.

“You have to tune in early or get to your seats early so that you don’t miss this great undercard we’ve put together.

ERIC GOMEZ, Senior Vice President of Golden Boy Promotions

“We’re very excited about this undercard. It’s customary for Golden Boy and Floyd Mayweather to put on exciting championship matchups with terrific fighters. We’re very proud of this undercard.

“You want to get out there early tomorrow to see all these prospects and future champions that will be on the card.

“Alfredo Angulo is one of the most popular fighters in the sport. I would say that he might have the best fans in all of boxing. They always support him no matter what, and I’m sure they’ll be out in full force Saturday night.

“A lot of people don’t get the opportunity to fight for a world title. They’re just waiting for that one opportunity. That’s what happened for Manuel Roman, who is finally getting a chance for a world title. He’s put in all the hard work and he’s looking to take full advantage.

“The word star gets thrown around a lot in boxing. There’s very few in the sport, but everyone, the garbageman, the milkman, everyone wants to know when Leo Santa Cruz is going to fight again. He’ll fight anyone, that’s just the kind of guy he is.”

Peter to Face Aubrey in Heavyweight Slugfest

peter_aguilera_100312_001a
The opponents have been announced for the co-main events on Saturday, September 27, 2014’s, “Rumble on the River” at OKC Downtown Airpark in Oklahoma City, presented by Ivaylo Gotzev and his Epic Sports and Entertainment.

In the night’s eight-round heavyweight “bombs away” co-main event, hard-hitting former WBC Champion Samuel Peter (34-5, 27 KOs) will return for the first time in three years to face former ECHL hockey enforcer turned heavyweight KO artist Ron “The Iceman” Aubrey (12-3, 12 KOs) from Oklahoma City.

Having been on the world stage for most of his career, the 34-year-old Peter will have the edge in experience, but Aubrey will have his army of fans in his corner, cheering the powerful strongman onto pull the huge upset. Someone is surely going home sore and disappointed in this war of big men.

“I am happy to be back in boxing,” said Samuel Peter. “I will dedicate myself to winning the heavyweight championship once again. I’m ready to knock out anyone who stands in my way.”

Meanwhile, Aubrey says he has a surprise waiting for Peter.

“He’s got more experience,” admitted Aubrey, “but I’ve been in hundreds of brawls in my lifetime. I’m not intimidated by him. He’s the better boxer, but I’m the better brawler and that’s what kind of fight it’s going to be. I’ve already got 12 knockouts in the ring and Samuel Peter is going to be my lucky number 13.”

And in the eight-round, middleweight co-main event, former WBA/WBC Welterweight and WBC Light Middleweight Champion Ricardo “El Matador” Mayorga (29-8-1, 23 KOs) will face 33-fight veteran and ex-US Marine Allen “Funky Cole” Medina of Denver, Colorado.

It will be Mayorga’s first fight since his brave stand against Miguel Cotto in March of 2011. He has tried his hand at MMA and taken considerable time off, so it remains to be seen if “El Matador” can still throw the bombs like he once did against some of boxing’s biggest names.

Headlining the undercard, Mexico’s Former IBF Light Middleweight champion “Yory Boy” Campas (102-17-3, 79 KO’s) will be gunning for the 103rd victory of his amazing career against 33-fight veteran Julio Cesar Lanzas of Colorado Springs, Colorado, in an eight-round middleweight match-up.

Tickets for “Rumble on the River” start at $25 and are available at any Buy For Less location or online at www.airparktickets.com. VIP tables are also available by calling 818.575.0151.

The “Rumble on the River” undercard is incredibly well put together, featuring several prominent local names in surprisingly competitive bouts. An announcement will follow shortly.

On fight night, doors open at 7 pm and the action starts at 8 pm. OKC Air Park is located at 1701 S. Western Avenue in Oklahoma City. All bouts subject to change.

UNDEFEATED MIDDLEWEIGHT PROSPECT PAUL LITTLETON FIGHTS THIS SATURDAY AT THE AMERISTAR CASINO, IN ST. CHARLES, MO

New York, NY (9/11/14) – On Saturday, September 13, DiBella Entertainment’s (DBE) touted middleweight prospect, Paul Littleton (9-0-1, 5 KO’s), returns to action at the Ameristar Casino, in St. Charles, MO, for the first time since scoring an impressive fourth-round TKO victory over Jeffrey Combs this past June. He’ll be facing the tough battle-tested Lamar Harris in the card’s co-featured bout. Headlined by local bantamweight prospect Stephon “Showstopper” Young (10-0-1, 4 KO’s), this event is promoted by Steve Smith’s Rumble Time Promotions, in association with DiBella Entertainment.

The 28-year-old Littleton is a popular crowd-pleaser from Chicago with an aggressive style. After winning the Chicago Golden Gloves three times while accruing an amateur record of 85-20, Littleton turned pro in December 2011. He has since beaten three undefeated prospects, including having scored a six-round unanimous decision victory over the exalted 7-0 Roberto Acevedo. His lone blemish came via highly disputed split draw to the 9-1 Darnell Wilson in 2012, in a six-round bout most ringside observers felt Littleton clearly won. A troubled youth who moved in and out of group homes during his adolescence, Littleton is now focused on his goal of becoming a world champion, under the guidance of longtime trainer George Hernandez. In June 2014, Littleton signed an exclusive promotional agreement with DiBella Entertainment and the bout against Harris will be his second under the DBE banner.

“I’m excited to be a part of the DiBella Entertainment roster,” said Littleton. “It encourages me to keep working hard. I’m grateful for the opportunity that Lou DiBella has given me and I look forward to continue moving on to bigger things.”

“I’ve watched Paul develop since he was an amateur,” said Littleton’s trainer George Hernandez. “I first saw him competing in the Golden Gloves. He was an exciting, tough kid fighting his ass off, going toe-to-toe with his opponent. He really impressed me, and a year later, I was working with him. Combined with tremendous power in both hands, he has such an awkward style that they call him ‘the Matrix Man’ because he makes moves like Neo in ‘The Matrix’. He’s always in the gym and I believe that he brings a lot to the middleweight division. Now with DiBella Entertainment, I feel that Paul’s true potential will be realized and we’ll see great things from him.”

“Paul Littleton is a good young middleweight prospect,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “In Lamar Harris, he’ll be facing an extremely rugged opponent. We want Paul to get more experience and to be as active as possible as he rises toward contender status.”

Also appearing on the undercard in a four-round junior welterweight contest will be Puerto Rican sensation Kent Cruz (6-0, 4 KO’s), of St. Louis. Co-promoted by DiBella Entertainment and Rumble Time Promotions, Cruz will square off against the hard-hitting Joe Roye.

Steve “USS” Cunningham Fights Natu “The Truth” Visinia on Oct. 18 at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia Tickets Available Now!

Steve Cunningham
Philadelphia, PA: Heavyweight contender Steve “USS” Cunningham (27-6, 12 KOs) takes on unbeaten Natu “The Truth” Visinia (10-0, 8 K0s) on Saturday evening, Oct. 18, at the 2300 Arena when NBCSN’s popular Fight Night boxing series returns to South Philadelphia.

Cunningham’s brutal battle with then-undefeated Amir “Hardcore” Mansour on April 4 in front of an electrified hometown crowd earned him the USBA Heavyweight Title and was an instant classic.

The Oct. 18 show also features a solid 10-round junior lightweight contest between Edner Cherry, of Wauchula, FL, and Jerry Belmontes, of Corpus Christi, TX. The Fight Night telecast will begin at 9 PM ET. The doors will open at 6 PM.

Tickets priced at $50 and $75 are on sale at Peltz Boxing (215-765-0922) or online at www.peltzboxing.com. They also can be purchased through Wanamaker’s Tickets (215-568-2400). The event is sponsored by Rocco’s Collision.

Cunningham, 38, spent the majority of his career at cruiserweight before moving up to heavyweight two years ago.

“This is the third undefeated heavyweight that I am facing and he has more career heavyweight fights than I do,” Cunningham explained. “I have fought more undefeated heavyweight fighters than some heavyweights fight in their entire career. I am up for the challenge. It is always a challenge fighting a young untested fighter, but a job has to be done. We are going to do the job, get this victory and be impressive.”

Final Forum Promotions

Visinia, 28, of Lakewood, CA, is a former stand-out high school and college football player. He was all-state in Missouri for William Chrisman High School then went on to start at left guard for Southern Illinois University. He took up boxing in 2006 to stay in shape for football, but fell in love with the sport. He began his fighting career in MMA, where he became the #2 ranked amateur heavyweight in the US before making his pro debut on King of the Cage. He then switched to boxing and joined the All American Heavyweight camp. More recently, he signed with Final Forum Promotions, who delivered a reinvigorated Derric Rossy for the August 9, 2014 Fight Night main event against Czar Glazkov. Visinia has knocked out eight of his ten pro boxing opponents-seven of them in the first round. This will be the first 10-round fight of his career.

“Steve Cunningham is a long-time respected world champion and Natu is a young-rising heavyweight contender,” said Visinia’s promoter, Sal Musumeci, of Final Forum Promotions. “And on October 18 it will be out with the old and in with the new.”

Visinia: “I am extremely excited for the opportunity to fight former cruiserweight champ, Steve Cunningham. As much as I admire his experience and accomplishments in the sport, I do not intend on leaving Philly without the win.”

There also should be fireworks in the co-feature.

Cherry & Osiobe

Cherry, 32, has not lost in more than six years and is ranked No. 11 in the world by the IBF and No. 17 by the WBC. His 32-6-2 record includes 17 knockouts and he has beaten Vicente Escobido, of Woodland, CA; Stevie Johnston, of Denver, CO; Daniel Alicea, of Santurce, Puerto Rico, and Monte Meza-Clay, of Rankin, PA.

The last man to beat Cherry was Timothy Bradley for the WBC junior welterweight title in 2008. Cherry also lost on points to Paulie Malignaggi in 2007.

Cherry, who has never been stopped, beat Robert Osiobe, of Las Vegas, NV, earlier this year in Philadelphia.

“This is a solid match between two of the best in the world between 130 and 135,” said Hall-of-Fame promoter J Russell Peltz, who handles Cherry. “It’s nice to see fights like this at this level. No one gets a free pass and it’s on neutral ground–neither guy is from Philadelphia.”

Cherry: “I want to thank Russell Peltz and Main Events for this opportunity. I’m ready and hungry and I guarantee the fans are going to get an exciting fight, for as long as it lasts. I will show the world that I am the best 130 pound fighter in the world.”

Belmontes, 25, who lost a disputed 12-round split decision to Omar Figueroa, of Welasco, TX, for the WBC lightweight title earlier this year, is 19-5, 5 KOs. He followed that with another split-decision loss, this one over 10 rounds against Abner Cotto, of Caguas, Puerto Rico.

Belmontes earned his title shot early in 2014 when he out-pointed previously unbeaten Will Tomlinson, of Australia, at the MGM in Las Vegas. He also has beaten Daniel Diaz, of Nicaragua.

“This is a huge opportunity for Jerry,” said manager Adrian Clark. “He loves Kathy [Duva], Jolene [Mizzone] and everyone at Main Events and he is excited to work with them again. He is looking to redeem himself after the loss to Cotto by beating Edner Cherry and getting back in the hunt and hopefully soon fighting for a 135 pound crown.”

“Once again our matchmakers, Jolene Mizzone and Russell Peltz, have come up with a pair of intriguing cross-roads fights to entertain the Fight Night fans,” said Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events. “Steve Cunningham is always in a great scrap and the undefeated Visinia is determined to make a statement. Meanwhile, the battle between Cherry and Belmontes promises a lot of action from two fighters who need to win in order to advance their careers.”

Tuesday Night Fights is a smash hit with Philly fight fans

Philadelphia (September 10, 2014)-On Tuesday night, September 16 at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia, Joe Hand Promotions and D & D Management will present the 2nd installment of Tuesday Night Fights.

This show is coming on the heels of a terrific inaugural card that took place on July 29 and played to a sold out crowd at the 2300 Arena.

The concept is to showcase local Philadelphia fighters in pro-am events that will feature the present and future of Philadelphia boxing.

The masterminds behind the series are Joe Hand Sr., Doc Nowicki and Dave Price.

To say Hand is a longtime fixture in boxing would be an understatement as he has been in the business dating back to him being one of the first co-managers of former world champion Joe Frazier.

Hand has managed, promoted and over the past 40 years has been the leading closed circuit and Pay Per View distributor for some of the biggest events all over the world.

He also is the owner of the most popular and successful Boxing Gym in Philadelphia for over two decades.

“We started the series not looking to make money on it, but to help the kids,” said Hand of the grass roots series.

“I see these fighters working hard in the gym everyday and they cant get fights. They are entitled to a career in boxing.”

Nowicki has been a very successful manager in the Philadelphia area as he guided the careers of Teon Kennedy and Mike Jones to world title opportunities and now has the same world title aspirations for undefeated Super Middleweight Jesse Hart.

“My vision of the series is young, hungry fighters that are exciting and getting opportunities in their hometown in even matched fights,” said Nowicki.

“We plan to keep the shows low budget. Not in talent but to make it affordable for the average person can come out and enjoy a night at the fights. We want to create special nights where a father can take his son and it also creates interest in the boxing world in Philadelphia. It’s great for people to be able to come see a great night of fights.”

Price, who was a passionate fight fan turned manager and now promoter echos the thoughts of Hand and Nowicki.

“I am very excited about the new series where we are able to bring quality fights and fighters back to Philadelphia. If we get the proper support, we can accomplish that goal.”, said Price.

Slated to appear on the card will be Welterweight Greg Jackson (3-0-1, 1 KO), debuting Jr. Middleweight Donte Wright and debuting Jr. Welterweight Jerome Conquest.

There will be seven amateur bouts prior to the professional card that will be headlined by national Golden Gloves champion Christian Carto and Eric Gordon in a 3-round bout in the 110-pound weight division.

Tickets for this great evening of boxing are $50 for reserved and $30 for general admission and can be purchased online at www.2300arena.com or by calling 215 364 9000.

The 2300 Arena is located at 2300 South Swanson Street (Corner of Swanson & Ritner).

SUN SETTING ON ILLUSTRIOUS MAYWEATHER CAREER AS LEGEND ADMITS BOXNATION BLOCKBUSTER WITH MAIDANA IS ONE OF HIS LAST

floyd-mayweather
LONDON (Sep 11) – Superstar Floyd Mayweather has admitted that his bout with Marcos Maidana this weekend will be one of his last.

The boxing icon faces off against the hard-hitting Maidana for a second time in succession, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this Saturday night, live on BoxNation, and has declared that he will be hanging up his gloves in 2015.

The 37-year-old Mayweather signed a six-fight deal, reported to be worth over $250m, with American TV network Showtime in 2013 and will have only two fights remaining on his contract after Maidana.

“I have only got two more fights after this,” said Mayweather. “As of right now my focus is on Maidana. I can’t focus on the two fights after this. I can’t say who the next two opponents will be, but they will be exciting fights. My next fight is in May and then September. A year from now will be my last fight,” he admitted.

The 11-time world champion in five weight divisions will, however, remain part of boxing as he looks to grow his promotional company.

“After those fights I just want to build the Mayweather Promotions brand. I have been in this sport my whole life and understand the business,” said Mayweather.

“The Mayweather brand is growing and we don’t know what the future holds. If I continue to work with good people like Leonard Ellerbe and Al Haymon there will be something positive.”

Despite showing little sign of decline the reigning two-weight world champion, who will be defending his WBA and WBC welterweight and light-middleweight titles against Maidana, has said it is imperative he gives his body sufficient rest.

“As you get older, you get wiser, smarter. You no longer grow physically but you do mentally. When I was younger I would go to the gym, every day, even as a professional,” he said.

“As you get older you have to let the body rest, let the body heal and rejuvenate so you can come back a lot stronger. Over the last few years I have let my body rest a lot more, eat a lot better although I cheat a little at Fatburger,” Mayweather said.

The undefeated star, with a record of 46-0, has also fired a warning shot to Maidana ahead of the bout admitting he is quicker than he’s ever been.

Some have questioned if he is as fleet footed as he once was, especially given how close the first encounter was with the Argentine, but Mayweather has poured scorn on such claims.

“When I am in the ring I know what I have to do. Facing so many different styles throughout the years, making adjustments is second nature. [My legs] looked good in the first fight. When a guy like that is extremely dirty I have to take my time,” he said.

“I am capable of changing. I’m faster this camp, a lot stronger, feel a lot better. We will have to see how the fight plays out. I am sure he is in good condition and we’ll see what he brings.

“I think I am faster because I am throwing more combinations this camp. The sparring partners have said I am a lot better. We have used some of the same guys and they say I am a lot stronger and faster this camp,” said Mayweather.

Dubbed ‘Money’ Mayweather, the Grand Rapids born star believes he is faced with a lot of unfair criticism and resentment from certain factions within boxing.

“I always say to myself. There is only three ways you can learn, ‘Hearing, seeing and doing.’ It’s hands on. I like to learn all three ways but when I am hands on I can master it. People embarking on the [Jose Luis] Castillo first fight, need to remember I beat him,” he said.

“From the beginning I am fighting the biased fans, biased writers and biased critics. There has been jealousy and envy from the beginning, but I can get through anything if I stay focused.”

Dierry Jean preparing to make major statement Sept. 27 in Montreal vs. Daniel Ruiz

Dierry Jean
MONTREAL (September 11, 2014) – North American Boxing Federation (NABF) lightweight champion Dierry “Dougy Style” Jean (26-1, 18 KOs) will make his first title defense September 27 against Mexican challenger Daniel “Canerito” Ruiz (32-7-2, 22 KOs) at the famed Bell Centre in Montreal.

The 12-round bout will be the co-feature on the “Red Dawn” card, headlined by a North American Boxing Association (NABA) light heavyweight title fight between two-time Russian Olympian Artur Beterbiev (5-0-0, 5 KOs) and former International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Tavoris “Thunder” Cloud (24-2-0, 19 KOs).

In his last action this past June, Jean stopped Mario Perez (15-5-4) in the eighth round for the vacant NABF lightweight crown, five months after losing a unanimous 12-round decision (118-111, 116-112, 116-113) to International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson.

“Honestly,” Jean said, “I didn’t go to lightweight because I thought it was going to be harder at 140 pounds. I’m not getting any younger, so I thought it could open doors to fight in two divisions. I want to get a world title shot as soon as possible. I do feel a little stronger and imposing at 135. I don’t take any of my opponents lightly but, after this fight, I want a title shot at Omar Figueroa or Terence Crawford, at 135 or 140.”

Upset-minded Ruiz, who is a former International Boxing Organization (IBO) super featherweight champion, knocked off hot Irish prospect and previously unbeaten Jamie Kavanagh (15-0-1) last December by way of a sixth-round knockout. Ruiz has been the distance with Rey Bautista (33-2), losing a 12-round split decision in 2012 for the vacant World Boxing Organization (WBO) International featherweight championship, in addition to dropping a 10-round majority decision in 2011 to unbeaten Canadian contender Logan McGuinness (14-0-1).

“I can’t wait for this fight to happen,” Jean added. “Even though he is still young, Ruiz is experienced. He has a good left hook and is a powerful puncher as his record indicates (22 KOs in 32 wins). But I’m in great shape; I’m going to destroy him, stop him, because it’s ‘Dougy Style’ time!”

“Dierry is fighting a dangerous opponent,” Jean’s promoter Camille Estephan (Eye of the Tiger Management – “EOTTM”) noted. “We’re didn’t bring in a second-rate lightweight. Ruiz has power and a track record for knocking off top prospects. He’s lost to some good guys like Abner Cotto, Bautista and McGuinness.

“Derry gained a lot of attention winning the NABF title. He wants to make a major statement this fight in order to get a big fight with Figueroa or Crawford. He’s ready for them. Dierry learned a lot in the Peterson fight and we’re giving him every opportunity to get him right back on top, ASAP.”

A loaded undercard card will showcase two other EOTTM fighters, world welterweight title challenger Antonin Decarie (30-2-0, 9 KOs) against Mexican invader Ivan “El Ruso” Pereyra (19-3, 13 KOs) in a 10-round fight, along with sensational junior middleweight prospect Steven Butler (4-0-0, 3 KOs) in a four-round bout vs. TBA.

“Red Dawn” is co-promoted by Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) and InterBox, in association with Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) and the participation of Don King Productions (DKP), and co-presented by Mise-O-Jeu and Videotron.

Tickets range from $50.00 to $250.00 and are available to purchase at Bell Centre, online at www.evenko.ca, or by calling GYM (514 383-0666) and the club Boxing Champion (514 376-0980).

FLOYD MAYWEATHER AND MARCOS MAIDANA FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

mayweather
LAS VEGAS (Sept. 10, 2014) – Fight week for “MAYHEM: Mayweather vs. Maidana 2” continued Wednesday as the main event fighters, Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Marcos “El Chino” Maidana, hosted their final press conference at the Hollywood Theatre at MGM Grand before their highly anticipated rematch on SHOWTIME PPV Saturday.

Here is what the fighter’s and their teams had to say Wednesday:

FLOYD MAYWEATHER, 11-Time, Five-Division World Champion

“Tunein and watch the fight because I’m going to be Floyd Mayweather and do what I do best and come out and win. I’ve been here before and I know what it takes to win at this level.

“We put it all on the line in the first fight. The fans demanded the rematch so we owe it to them to put it all on the line again. Maidana’s rugged. He’s a cool fighter and we’ll see how it plays out on Saturday.

“I have to focus on my fight. I can’t focus on anything else going on, I have a tough fighter in front me and he needs all my focus.

“We’ve had a remarkable training camp. Truly unbelievable. I feel a lot stronger than last time. It’s about hard work, dedication, prayers, belief and a good team.

“I know I’m almost 40, but I’m still going strong. I want to go out there and perform.

“The first fight was very interesting. Hopefully this time around the fight is even more exciting.

“Maidana is always in top shape. He absolutely deserves this rematch. I commend him for stepping up and making it happen again. I’m a true champion and a true champion never backs down.

“I need a knockout and I’m going for it. I need it to make a statement. First for myself, I want to do it for me.

“Robert Garcia can say what he wants to say. My dad can say what he wants to say. Both teams can go back and forth and bicker all day. In the end it comes down to skills, smarts and adjustments.

“We sparred with some guys who have similar styles to Maidana’s. Guys who threw a lot of looping, wild shots. Very strong rugged guys. We had a lot of good solid work with these guys.

“I don’t know who has the advantage in the rematch. I know I’m sharp, I know he’s sharp. I was able to make the adjustments in the first fight and we’ll see if he can make the adjustments this time.

“I don’t condone what happened. If I offended anyone, I apologize. I have this tough, rugged fighter in front of me and that’s what I have to focus on. I’m not perfect, I make mistakes and I don’t condone that at all.”

MARCOS MAIDANA, Former Welterweight World Champion

“I just know that I have to win. I’m concentrated on winning. I am going to take out any doubts in my mind about the first fight. I’ve adjusted now and I think I’ll be ready.

“I haven’t talked to Carlos Rios or Carlos Baldomir about their Mayweather fights but I have watched their fights. I noticed that being aggressive and attacking him is what makes him uncomfortable.

“I think I did get tired in the first fight. I have to pace myself a little better and this time around I will be better.

“If the knockout comes great, but I’m ready to go the distance as well. I’m ready to make history.

“I have to use my distance a little more and pick and choose my punches. I wasted too many punches last fight. I have to work my distance correctly and get leverage.

“I think Floyd got pressured by the press and I think that he knows the first fight was close so he’s giving me the rematch and I have to take full advantage.

“I actually had two full months to prepare this time. I worked very hard and that’s probably why I look a little skinnier this time.

“I think Floyd is going to run but I’m going to have to do a good job of cutting off the ring.”

LEONARD ELLERBE, CEO of Mayweather Promotions

“We’re expecting a very exciting fight in this rematch; both guys have a tremendous amount of confidence and had excellent training camps leading up to the fight.

“Marcos Maidana is coming in really believing he is going to win this fight.

“You can’t say enough about Floyd Mayweather. He’s become the face of boxing and often he is the guy who wears the target on his back. No matter what he does people tend to form an opinion, but that comes with the territory.

“Floyd has had a phenomenal career, he’s the best fighter in the world and he’s been a world champion since 1998. He’s beaten a number of world champions and in my eyes he will go down as the best to ever do it.

“Floyd has made several hundred millions of dollars, but money doesn’t motivate him. He’s able to get up in the wee hours of the morning, putting in the groundwork like he’s never earned a dime.

“He has a tremendous dedication to the sport and we will all miss him when he’s not fighting. When he goes into that ring he gives it his all and he’s dominated A-level fighters and made them look ordinary.

“The fans demanded the rematch and Floyd said no problem, lets put him in there. If the fans didn’t think I got it right the first time, I will this time. There will be no more questions left unanswered after the Mayweather-Maidana rematch.

“What other athlete in sports can you say, that has dominated everyone in front of him for so many years? We must find a way to acknowledge greatness when we see it. There will never be another fighter like him.”

ROBERT GARCIA, Maidana’s Trainer

“All games aside, we’re ready for this fight. We’ve prepared like never before. We know it’s not an easy fight but it’s not impossible either.

“We’re going to give the fans what they are waiting for. What the fans want to see, that’s what they’re going to get Saturday night.

“Our mindset is exactly the same as it was going into the first fight. We do not need a knockout to win. We can win a decision. We can win a decision by dominating every round.

“Marcos dominated for half the fight last time before he slowed down a little and sort of faded. He didn’t quite have the energy to do what he wanted for 12 rounds.

“The difference for this fight is that we had eight full weeks of training and not just five. He had more sparring, much better sparring.

“Mayweather is a great fighter, one of the greatest of all-time. I don’t think age has caught up with him. He has always taken such good care of his body. He works very hard. He’s still got that quickness.

“Mayweather’s a smart guy. I think he’s just politicking when he keeps complaining about Maidana being dirty in the first fight.

“Chino gained a lot of confidence in the first fight. That’s a big plus going into the rematch. He feels stronger, mentally and physically. He’s ready to do what he couldn’t quite do last time and that’s fight his fight for 12 rounds.’’

ERIC GOMEZ, Senior VP of Golden Boy Promotions

“Marcos gave Floyd probably the toughest fight that he has had in the last couple years. But, that’s what makes Floyd so great. He does things that people don’t expect him to do in boxing. I know that Floyd has proven everyone in this room wrong at least once.

“I know personally he has proven me wrong ever since he fought Oscar De La Hoya. Every single fight I’ve thought to myself, ‘Ok, this time we’ve got him’. That’s what makes Floyd great. Everyone has criticized him and said that he wouldn’t get past the likes of Ricky Hatton, Canelo or Victor Ortiz, but he has beaten them all.

“There is one critic that Floyd hasn’t been able to prove wrong, one critic that keeps him going, and that’s Floyd himself and that’s why he took this rematch. Floyd felt that the first fight was close and he wants to prove to everyone and to himself that he won that first fight and that he can do it again.

“I also know that Marcos is a very hungry fighter that felt that he was very, very close to beating Floyd Mayweather. He is here to prove that whatever it takes, any little inch that he needs more to beat Floyd, he will make it happen this time.’’

STEPHEN ESPINOZA, Executive VP and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports

“We’re thrilled to be back here at MGM Grand again, this has become SHOWTIME’s home away from home. This is our fourth event that SHOWTIME is televising from this venue this year, the most of any venue and the sixth in the past two years.

“There’s no doubt that this Saturday ‘Mayweather vs. Maidana 2’ will be most likely the biggest fight of the year.

“No matter what the result is, I guarantee that the fight will be historic. Historic because what we are watching will be unprecedented. We all know about Floyd’s success, undefeated record, fighter of the year awards. But consider this, Floyd Mayweather has been ranked in the top-10 by Ring Magazine consecutively and continuously since March of 1998. He’s been in the top10 for 16 years which is unprecedented in another sport, and that’s not to mention multiple years of being the consensus pound-for-pound king.

“But to be candid, Marcos Maidana couldn’t care less about Floyd’s accolades. Back in May, Maidana gave Floyd perhaps the toughest fight of his career, 12 grueling hard- fought rounds. Then Floyd surprised many of us by saying he wanted the rematch. Maidana is one of the most accomplished fighters that Floyd has ever fought, and personally I can’t wait.’’

RICHARD STURM, President of Sports & Entertainment for MGM Resorts International

“We’re excited for this highly anticipated rematch. Floyd Mayweather will look to push his undefeated record to 47-0. We all know this will be another hard test as Marcos Maidana looks to avenge his hard-fought loss back in May.

“Las Vegas frequently plays host to a number of large number of major sports and entertainment events. This weekend MGM Resorts will once again play a critical role in the Las Vegas experience as we celebrate Mexican Independence Day weekend.”

BOB BENNETT, Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission

“We are honored and elated to regulate this great fight. I want to thank everyone involved for putting on this electric and exciting fight in the fight capital of the world.

“I would like to recognize Mr. Mayweather and Mr. Maidana and all the fighters who will be putting forth a gallant effort come this Saturday night. Without them this event would not be possible and I would like all the fighters to know that we wish them all the very best. ‘’

Team Andrade to Canelo, “Put up or shut up”

Andrade UK 2
Philadelphia (September 10, 2014)– In recent weeks, Former Jr. Middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez (44-1-1, 31 KO’s) and his team at Golden Boy Promotions have been going over potential opponents for Canelo’s expected return to the ring this fall.

Three names that are allegedly on a short list include undefeated current WBO Jr. Middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (21-0, 14 KO’s), former Welterweight champion Joshua Clottey and James Kirkland.

But according to Andrade’s father and trainer Paul Andrade, no formal talks have ever taken place and Andrade went on to say he feels that inclusion of Demetrius name is only to bolster Canelo.

“I was totally surprised when I saw the article mentioning Demetrius as a possible opponent,”said Paul Andrade.

“I saw (Alvarez promoter) Oscar De La Hoya at the Shawn Porter – Kell Brook weigh-in and he shook my hand. I asked him about a fight with Canelo and Demetrius . He said he we would have to wait in line for about 2 years. He then gave me a story that when he was in High School that if a girl was interested in him, that they would have to wait two years to date him.”

Andrade then thought the fight was a dead issue until he saw some reports on the internet that Demetrius was one of the fighters in line to face Canelo.

“Three weeks later, I read that we are on the short list. I never realized that two years went by that quick. Judging by the list, I feel the only reason we are included is that it makes Canelo look good. Three weeks earlier, Oscar said that they had no intention to fight us.”

“Undefeated world champions do not go on a short list.”

Andrade went on to wonder how his son got on that list as he has not heard of any negotiations between the two camps.

“I understand that they have negotiated with both Clottey and Kirkland but they have not negotiated with us. That proves that he does not want to fight us right now.”

“I would appreciate if does not mention our name unless he is ready to say that I will fight Andrade.”

“It’s time for him to put up or shut up. By mentioning us, Oscar is trying to develop Canelo’s next opponent but it seems like they are going back to their old ways by fighting blown up Welterweights. I have a lot of respect for Clottey and Kirkland but Oscar can’t just throw our name in the mix so Canelo can look good. Demetrius is an undefeated titleholder. Canelo claims he wants to fight the best, well we are undefeated and the best Jr. Middleweight in the world.”

“The fans aren’t stupid. I wish Oscar should let them pick Canelo’s next opponent. Unfortunately Oscar isn’t stupid because he knows Demetrius would be too much for Canelo and our fans would agree with us. ”

Andrade is promoted by Banner Promotions and Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing.

HEATED MAIDANA CALLS ON MAYWEATHER ‘TO FIGHT HIM LIKE A MAN’ AS THEY PREPARE FOR MEGAFIGHT THIS SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE AND EXCLUSIVE ON BOXNATION

Marcos Maidana
LONDON (Sep 10) – Marcos Maidana has called on pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather to ‘fight him like a man’.

The pair clash for the second successive time, live on BoxNation, this Saturday night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, with the rugged and rough Argentine calling on Mayweather to not run when they lock horns.

Maidana carries a fearsome reputation as one of boxing’s biggest hitters, with 31 knockouts in 35 wins, and has dismissed claims that his success in the first fight was as a result of the American superstar having slowed down, as he looks to goad Mayweather into a war.

“I don’t think age has anything to do with it. I don’t think it does because in the first fight, he could’ve fought with me a little bit, but then he started boxing and moving at times. So I don’t think age has anything to do with it,” said Maidana.

“He’s a good athlete. He’s in shape. I think that it was his decision to stand and fight with me. This second fight I hope he decides to stand and fight with me, to fight like a man. I hope he doesn’t start running or trying to move away

“I’m preparing for anything. I hope that he stands and fights. But if he’s going to run like a little bitch I’m going to have to chase him all around, and I’m prepared to do that,” he said.

The 31-year-old, who has shared the ring with the likes of Adrien Broner and Amir Khan, believes that this fight will prove to be an easier one than the initial bout in May and has rubbished the school of thought which says he needs a knockout to win.

“Personally, I find it much easier to face up against Floyd this time. When we first fought, I thought I wasn’t going to be able to see him, but I found him in the ring many times,” Maidana said.

“I don’t agree with the statement I need a knockout to win. I think that I can win by decision or by knockout. The first fight was a very close fight.

“It was a decision that was a majority decision, so I feel that I just have to make a few adjustments, put a little more pressure on, land better punches, and yes I can win, I can win by decision. Obviously the knockout would be nice, and that’s a possibility as well,” he said.

The reigning two-weight world champion Mayweather accused Maidana of dirty tactics in the first fight, which saw the Grand Rapids born star given his hardest night in years.

The man from Santa Fe, however, is unfazed by Mayweather’s accusations and admits he came close to retiring if he didn’t get the rematch.

“You know what? It doesn’t bother me that Mayweather says I’m dirty. It doesn’t bother me. There are things that he does as well in there, so it’s time for him to stop crying and just fight,” he said.

“I was really contemplating retiring if he didn’t give me the rematch, and I would’ve retired for the rest of this year at least and then see what comes up next year. But, yes, it was something that crossed my mind, and I was willing to retire.

“I got the rematch because the first fight was a close fight. He probably wants to prove a point. He wants to demonstrate that he can beat me outright. It doesn’t really matter. What matters is that the rematch is happening, and I’m very happy,” he said.

Rebrasse: Groves won’t stand in the way of my world title dream

European Champion Christopher Rebrasse (22-2-3, 6 KOs) travels to London to face George Groves (19-2, 15 KOs) in a final eliminator for the WBC World Super Middleweight title on September 20 at the SSE Arena, Wembley. Victory will earn the Frenchman a shot at the newly crowned champion Anthony Direll and bring him a step closer to achieving his ultimate ambition.

Rebrasse has worked his way up the world rankings with a series of impressive performances, culminating in a successful European title challenge in March. Currently ranked number three by both the WBC and IBF, the 28 year-old believes he is now ready to make his mark on the world scene.

‘’I took the traditional route,’’ said Rebrasse. ‘’First I became French Champion, then EU Champion and now that I’m European Champion the next step for me is to win a world title. That is my dream, that is my only objective and I will do everything I can to achieve it. I won’t let anything or anyone stand in my way, including George Groves.’’

Rebrasse travelled to Italy to claim the European title, defeating the champion Mouhamed Ali Ndiaye inside four rounds on his home turf. He will be defending his belt for the first time when he meets Groves in London. The prospect of fighting away from home holds no fears for the boxer from Levallois-Perret.

‘’A ring is a ring wherever you are and the rules remain the same,’’ said Rebrasse. ’I’m not worried about fighting in London in front of George’s fans. I will not be rattled. I have fought away from home before and I have won away from home, it will be no different on September 20.’’

Return of the Saint: Groves vs. Rebrasse will be shown live on Sky Sports 2. Tickets are available via axs.com or by calling 08448 24 48 24.

Andrade – Korobov ordered to fight for WBO Middleweight title

Andrade Workout 2
Philadelphia (September 10, 2014)– The World Boxing Organization ordered a bout between Jr. Middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (21-0, 14 KO’s) and Matt Korobov (24-0, 14 KO’s) to fight for the vacant Middleweight championship.

“We are very happy and delighted that the WBO has given Demetrius Andrade this great opportunity to fight for the Middleweight world title,” said Banner Promotions CEO Artie Pelullo.

“It’s a great opportunity for Demetrius to become a two-division world champion. Matt Korobov and Demetrius Andrade were both 2007 world amateur champions & 2008 Olympians. Demetrius from the United States and Korobov from Russia. As professionals they are both undefeated and their paths will finally cross.”

“My partner Joe DeGuardia and I will get on the phone and call Bob Arum, who promotes Korobov and try to make this fight happen this Fall.”

“I am pleased that the WBO has granted Demetrius the opportunity to add another World Championship to his impressive accomplishments. We hope and expect that this will be the second of many more Championships that he will acquire”, said Star Boxing CEO Joe DeGuardia

“I would like to thank the WBO for having faith in us and giving us the opportunity,” said Andrade’s father/trainer Paul Andrade.

Hard-hitting Gingras eyes a second title

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Sept. 10th, 2014) — Between trading punches with opponents in the ring and showing off the results of his hard work in the gym on stage, it’s been a while since Rich Gingras has taken a well-deserved break from his routine.

Twenty-two days after beating Jaime Velazquez in June for the vacant N.E. Light Heavyweight title, Gingras participated in his first bodybuilding competition, bruises and all.

A month later, he and his wife, Alyssa, competed in another fitness show in Las Vegas alongside some of the world’s elite bodybuilders. On Friday night, just 32 days since they stepped off the stage out west, Gingras will climb back into the ring and battle Joey McCreedy of Lowell, Mass., in the eight-round main event of CES Boxing’s “Title For Title” show at Twin River Casino.

Counting calories, cutting weight, logging miles and preparing for each invidual challenge has taken its toll on Gingras these past few months, perhaps more mentally than physically. A break from competition – and his diet – is in order.

“I’m ready to get fat and eat a little bit,” he said.

Until then, the task at hand is adding another belt to the trophy case. In addition to defending his N.E. title, Gingras will fight for McCreedy’s Universal Boxing Federation (UBF) Northeast title in a unique main event featuring two champions who both consider Twin River their home venue.

“Since he won that belt, I’ve kept my eye on him,” said Gingras, born and raised in New Hampshire and now living and training out of Lincoln, R.I.

“I’ve been licking my chops wanting to fight him. I’m very excited about this one. The fans will love this fight.”

Stylistically, this is a fight fan’s dream. Gingras (14-4-1, 9 KOs) and McCreedy (15-7-2, 6 KOs) are practically identical in terms of their approach. Neither fighter will shy away from contact and figure to spend all eight rounds — or however long it lasts — looking to inflict as much damage as possible.

“I won’t have to chase him around,” Gingras said. “We’ll meet in the middle somewhere. Whoever has a higher tolerance for pain and can dish out the most punishment will end up winning.”

Gingras is confident he’ll be the one — “I can take a punch,” he noted — thanks to his pinpoint diet and impeccable conditioning, making him a stronger, more durable fighter since he began competing at 175 pounds this year instead of 168.

“I’m not a cocky person by any means and I don’t take anyone lightly,” he said, “but I believe I’m a bigger, stronger individual than him. My conditioning will be the key factor.”

Though it’s hard to believe now, Gingras was a cruiserweight when he first turned pro in 2006. A change in his diet and conditioning helped him slim down to 168 when he fought Joe Gardner in May of 2013. He also stays in the gym between fights — literally. He and his wife own one in nearby Pawtucket, so staying motivated to train and live a healthy lifestyle is never an issue.

“I’ve always had incredible conditioning,” Gingras said.

The only time he’s ever run out of gas was when he fought Peter Manfredo Jr. in November, but what few people know is Gingras injured his Achilles tendon three and a half weeks before the fight, which prevented him from running or jumping rope for the rest of his camp. He looked strong early, but faded down the stretch before Manfredo Jr. stopped him in the eighth round.

“I never really told anyone about it because I didn’t want it to sound like I was making an excuse because he’s a tremendous fighter and his experience broke me down,” Gingras said. “The difference was in rounds six, seven and eight.”

With the Achilles’ injury behind him, Gingras is back to his old ways, pushing himself to the limit every time he steps foot inside the gym. His trainer, Orlondo Valles, keeps close tabs on him to make sure he doesn’t overextend himself.

“He has to tell me to chill out once in a while,” Gingras said of Valles. “I push a little harder than I should sometimes.”

The hard work has paid off. Gingras is now a reigning champion in New England with his eyes set on another prize Friday night and, if possible, perhaps a third title down the road if he ever gets a shot at a rematch with the N.E. Super Middleweight Champion Vladine Biosse. The two fought to a disputed draw in July of 2013 (Gingras was initially announced as the winner due to a scorekeeping error), allowing Biosse to retain his title.

“I was shortchanged in that fight,” Gingras said. “To have all three belts would be amazing. I have unfinished business to settle there. I could get down to 168 tomorrow if they asked me.”

Tickets for “Title For Title” are on sale now at $45.00, $60.00, $76.00 and $125.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com or www.twinriver.com or by phone at 401-724-2253/2254. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Worcester, Mass., junior middleweight Khiary Gray-Pitts (1-0, 1 KO) faces Sergio Cabrera (0-2) of Boston: junior middleweight Ray Oliveira Jr. of Fall River, Mass., battles fellow newcomer Angel Valdez in his pro debut and Fall River lightweight Scott Sullivan takes on Moises Rivera (0-3) of Boston in his debut. Italian-American cruiserweight Antonio Mignella (3-0, 3 KOs) of Providence, nicknamed “Little Rocky,” will battle Louisana’s Alvin Varmall Jr. (2-0, 2 KOs) in a four-round bout.

Cranston welterweight Nick DeLomba (4-0) will face 15-fight veteran Christian Steele of Staunton, Va., in a six-round bout. “Title For Title” also features the professional debut of Cranston native and U.S. Air Force veteran Zack Christy, who takes on Saul Almeida of Framingham, Mass., in a four-round super middleweight bout.

“A lot of great fighters have come before me and won the heavyweight title and to have the chance to join them is an honor,” said the number two-ranked Ortiz. “I will fight my heart out for this championship and I won’t disappoint my fans, friends or family.”

“I’ve waited a long time for a fight like this and I feel that this is finally my chance to shine,” said the number five-ranked Kayode. “Before Mayweather and Maidana fight on Saturday, I will set the stage for them with a big win and a championship that will have the world talking.”

Ortiz vs. Kayode, a 12-round bout for the vacant WBA Interim Heavyweight World Title, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather Promotions, in association with Greg Cohen Promotions and airs live on Fight Network at 9:30 p.m. ET.

With over 340 amateur wins in his native Cuba, 35-year-old Luis Ortiz (21-0, 18 KOs) knows more about boxing than practically anyone in the heavyweight division as evidenced by his 21 wins. Now the 6-foot-4 southpaw has his shot at championship gold and after back-to-back knockouts of Alex Gonzales and Monte Barrett respectively, it’s clear that the Miami resident isn’t content with just winning a decision on September 11.

A native of Lagos, Nigeria who now makes his home in Hollywood, California, 31-year-old Lateef “Power” Kayode (20-0, 16 KOs) is a hard-hitting contender whose six-year professional career includes wins over Matt Godfrey, Felix Cora Jr. and Alfredo Escalera Jr., as well as several regional titles at cruiserweight. Now competing at heavyweight, where he has knocked out his last two opponents, Kayode is one win away from becoming a world champion.

Making his second consecutive appearance in Las Vegas, Buenos Aires southpaw Jesus Cuellar (24-1, 18 KOs) is an experienced veteran of the fight game at just 27-years-old. With 24 victories and only one defeat, Cuellar is looking forward to make an even bigger name for himself by beating slugger Juan Manuel Lopez. A winner of seven straight, Cuellar won the interim WBA title in August of 2013 with a victory over unbeaten Claudio Marrero. After his win over Rico Ramos in May, he will now attempt to defend his belt for a third time on September 11.

Winner of three of his last five bouts, a stretch that includes a March knockout over Daniel Ponce De Leon, 31-year-old southpaw Juan Manuel Lopez (34-4, 31 KOs) will attempt to make history again by taking a world title back home to Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Already a two-division world titleholder who has thrilled fans for years, the exciting knockout artist believes he has another great fight in him heading into his bout against Cuellar.

Many believe Houston’s Jermall Charlo (18-0, 14 KOs) should have been a world champion by now, but when IBF Junior Middleweight World Champion Carlos Molina was forced out of their March bout due to legal issues, the 24-year-old Charlo was forced to go back to the drawing board. A little over two weeks after his cancelled title fight, Charlo was back in the ring, stopping Hector Munoz in just two rounds and he expects another stellar performance on September 11. Charlo is set to face Mexican veteran Norberto Gonzalez (20-4, 13 KOs).

The best prospect to emerge from Philadelphia since Unified Super Lightweight World Champion Danny Garcia, Julian Williams (16-0-1, 10 KOs) wants to follow in Garcia’s footsteps and put a championship belt around his waist sooner rather than later. A knockout victor in his last three bouts over tough competition like Orlando Lora, Freddy Hernandez and Michael Medina, the 24-year-old junior middleweight will undoubtedly be bringing the thunder to Las Vegas next week when he takes on Eliezer Gonzalez (14-0, 9 Kos) of San Juan Puerto Rico in an eight round bout.

2012 U.S. Olympian Errol Spence Jr. (13-0, 10 KOs) has been making a steady climb up the 147-pound ladder since becoming a professional and after a shutout win over rugged veteran Ronald Cruz in June, the 24-year-old from Desoto, Texas native has proven that he’s ready to take another step toward the top. Spence Jr. will face Noe Bolanos (26-10-1, 16 KOs) of Obregon, Mexico in an eight-round welterweight bout.

A noted fan favorite for his exciting style and ability to triumph against the odds, 30-year-old Josesito Lopez (32-6, 19 KOs) has won two fights straight since a courageous effort against Marcos Maidana in June of 2013, defeating Mike Arnaoutis and Aaron Martinez. On September 11, Lopez is back in action, and he is expected to open the Golden Boy Live! show in style when he faces Mexican slugger Rafael Cobos (15-4, 3 KOs).
