RIYADH, SA (Feb. 23, 2023) — Jake Paul, the international superstar turned professional boxer, decided to answer the critics. He will face a “real boxer” for the first time, the undefeated Tommy “TNT” Fury, in the eight-round cruiserweight main event Sunday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Fury (8-0, 4 KOs), the half-brother of Tyson Fury, has been dominant since making his pro debut in December 2018. Paul (6-0, 4 KOs), nicknamed “The Problem Child,” has become one of the sport’s most popular figures with standout showings over former MMA stars Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva and Ben Askren. 

Fury and Paul have waged a years-long war of words, and that continued in Riyadh at Thursday’s press conference.

Paul vs. Fury will stream live on ESPN+ PPV (2 p.m. ET / 11 p.m. PT), the exclusive digital distributor for the event in the United States. Additionally, it will be available via cable and satellite pay-per-view providers and will be priced at $49.99.

In the co-feature, Ilunga Makabu (29-2, 25 KOs) will defend his WBC cruiserweight world title against former two-weight world champion Badou Jack (27-3-3, 16 KOs).

The ten round Bravo-Valtierra bout serves as Bravo’s first NABO title defense and headlines Boxlab Promotions “Night of Champions II”. The fight will air via tape delay Sunday, February 26 on CBS Sports Network at 10:30 PM ET.

2016 US Olympian Antonio Vargas faces his toughest foe to date when he challenges Mitchell Banquez for the WBA Continental Americas bantamweight title. Fighting out of Kissimmee, FL, Vargas is 15-1 with 8 wins by KO. Banquez, who hails from Venezuela and resides in Fort Lauderdale, FL, has an excellent 20-2 professional ledger with 14 of his victories coming by KO.

Vargas-Banquez is scheduled for 10 rounds.

WBA Fedecaribe lightweight champion Idalberto Umara, 8-1 (5 KO’s), puts his belt on the line against experienced Devi Julio, 24-12 (15 KO’s), of Colombia in a ten round contest. After dropping a controversial decision in his pro debut, the Cuban born Umara’s dominated inside the squared circle, winning virtually every round he’s fought.

19-year-old junior welterweight sensation Elijah Flores battles heavy-handed Mexican Juan Aguirre Herrera, 7-6-2 (5 KO’s). in a six round bout. Fighting out of Woodlands, CA, Flores is 4-0 with 2 KO’s. Last October, Flores stepped up in competition and won an thrilling six round decision over Rashield Williams (6-1) at the Caribe Royale.

The Vargas-Banquez and Umara-Julio fights will air on the CBS Sports Network telecast, with Flores-Aguirre serving as a swing bout.

Undefeated junior middleweight sensation Jeovanny Estela faces well-respected Cleotis “Mookie” Pendarvis of Lancaster, CA in a six rounder. Representing Orlando, FL, by way of Puerto Rico, Estela is 10-0 with 3 wins by knockout. MIAMI, FL (February 23, 2023)—One of the most exciting fighters in the world, WBC World Cruiserweight Champion Ilunga Junior Makabu will defend his title against the veteran Badou Jack on Sunday night on ESPN+ in Saudi Arabia as part of the Jake Paul-Tommy Fury card.

“Ilunga Junior Makabu will show why he is considered the best cruiserweight in the world,” said Makabu’s promoter Don King. “Makabu has all the tools to be one of the all-time greats.  After retaining his title, he’s ready to win the other belts to become the undisputed cruiserweight champion.”

Makabu (29-2, 25 KOs) will defend his title for the first time in a year.  He last fought Jan. 29 of this year in Warren, OH, winning a split decision over Thabiso Mchunu.  That victory was only his second defense of his title since Dec. 19, 2020.

Makabu won the vacant title on Jan. 31, 2020 in South Africa in scoring a unanimous decision over challenger Michael Cieslak  and defended the title 11 months later on Dec. 19^th and knocked out Olanrewaju in the 7^th round in Kinshasa.

Makabu, 35, who hails from the Republic of the Congo, has won 10 consecutive fights since his second career loss coming in the WBC World Cruiserweight Championship on May 29, 2016 when he got knocked out in the third round by Tony Bellew.  The bout was a slugfest as Makabu knocked Bellew down with a left hook in the first round.

Jack (27-3-3, 16 KOs), 39, who hails from Sweden, has won five consecutive fights, his last victory a split decision over undefeated Richard Riviera on Aug. 20, 2022.

Jack’s last title fight was his last loss on Dec. 28, 2019 when he fought Jean Pascal for the WBA Light Heavyweight championship as well as the WBC Silver Light Heavyweight title.  Jack lost a close split decision with two of the judges seeing the fight 114-112 for Pascal and the other judge seeing it in favor of Jack at 114-112.

Manchester, England – (February 23, 2023) – A thrilling English championship bout, two Olympians and the promotional debut of an exciting super-middleweight prospect have today been announced for the undercard of the BOXXER Fight Night: Manchester event taking place Saturday March 25 at the AO Arena.

Headlined by Lawrence Okolie (18-0, 14 KO’s) defending his WBO World Cruiserweight Championship against undefeated, 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist David Light (20-0, 12 KO’s), today’s announcements revealed a March card packed with quality from top to bottom.

English title fights have a deserved reputation for producing some of the most exciting contests in boxing and that tradition looks set to continue in the evening’s chief support bout when Michael Gomez Jr (18-1, 5 KO’s) and Levi Giles (13-0, 3 KO’s) enter the ring to contest the vacant English Super-Featherweight Championship.

Michael Gomez Sr was a firm favourite of fight fans in his home city of Manchester thanks to his all-action, no-nonsense fighting style. His son Gomez Jr – the current Central Area Super-Featherweight title holder – is continuing the family business and will have the Manchester Arena crowd behind him for his English title tilt.

Manchester’s storied arena played host to many a Gomez Sr bout and also hosted Gomez Jr’s professional debut in 2014, making it a fitting scene for his bout against the undefeated Grimsby man Giles, who is taking the first title shot of his career in this ten-round contest.

Hard-hitting heavyweight prospect Frazer ‘Big Fraze’ Clarke (5-0, 4 KO’s) – a bronze medallist for Great Britain at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics – is another fighter who counts Manchester’s arena as his second home, with three of his five professional bouts to date having taken place there. 

His sixth outing is by far his toughest test to date. Experienced American Rydell Booker (27-7-1, 14 KO’s) has shared the ring with some of the biggest names in the sport. He lost a decision to Hall of Fame heavyweight James Toney in a 2004 world heavyweight title fight and went the distance with the highly-accomplished Filip Hrgovic and Kubrat Pulev.

Clarke’s fellow 2020 Olympic bronze medallist Karriss Artingstall – now 2-0 in the professional ranks – also returns to the ring in Manchester, with her opponent set to be confirmed in the coming days. 

Hotly-tipped super-middleweight prospect Callum Simpson (10-0, 8 KO’s) – the reigning Central Area champion – recently signed an exclusive promotional agreement with BOXXER. Yorkshireman Simpson trained alongside former world champion Josh Warrington when he entered the professional ranks and has stopped 80% of his opponents thus far. 

Other names confirmed for the March 25th card today include Welsh featherweight Rhys Edwards (2-2), who faces Liverpool’s Brian Phillips (12-3, 3 KO’s), and the return to the BOXXER ring of welterweight Samuel ‘True Sensation’ Antwi (14-2, 6 KO’s), middleweight Aaron McKenna (15-0, 8 KO’s) and former Team GB member and Tri-Nations amateur champion Harvey Lambert (1-0), with opponents for the trio to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Former World Champion Heather Hardy (23-2, 4 KO’s), Brooklyn born and raised, is planning to bring “The Heat” Thursday night in mid-town Manhattan. Heather is a graduate of John Jay College in Brooklyn, began boxing in the gym at age twenty-four and made her professional debut at the age of twenty-eight. She is former WBC International super bantamweight champion, former WBC International featherweight champion and former WBO World featherweight champion.

“The day before he died, (former trainer) Hector Roca told me this would be my year,” said Hardy, who is dedicating the fight to Hector. “He said, ‘they all think you past your prime but i don’t think you hit it yet.’ We never stopped working from right after my last fight, back in the gym, just grinding and fixing old bad habits. Thursday night is my test, one step closer to fighting for a world title.”

Taynnaa Cardoso (5-1, 1KO) from Jundiai, Sao Paulo, Brazil made her pro debut in 2017 and won the Brazilian featherweight title in just her second fight.

Tsendbaatar Erdenebat (4-0, 2 KOs) from Tsetserleg, Mongolia was on the 2016 Mongolian Olympic boxing team, losing a split decision in the quarterfinals. In the 2018 Asian Games, Tsendbaatar won the Gold Medal and was a finalist is the 2019 AIBA World Championship semi-finalist. He made his pro debut in 2018 and will be fighting in the USA for the first time.

Giovanni Gutierrez (11-3, 6 KOs) from Tipitapa, Nicaragua, made his professional debut in 2018. On July 27, 2019, Giovanni won the World Boxing Association Fedacaribe super bantamweight title with a fourth-round knockout. On December 12, 2019, he fought for the International Boxing Federation North American super bantamweight title but lost the via unanimous decision. His most recent title opportunity was a WBA Fedalatin title which he lost in 2020. 

Frederic “French Revolution” Julan (12-2, 10 KOs) was born in Paris and now resides in Brooklyn. He made his pro debut in 2016 and won his first ten bouts. Julan is looking to rebound from two tough decision losses, most recently at Madison Square Garden. Decarlo “3medno” Perez (19-7, 6 KOs), from Atlantic City, is a former USA New Jersey State Super Middleweight Champion and a Jersey Shore fan favorite.  His last fight was a tough, majority decision loss to Nadim Salloum at Sony Hall in December.

Michael Hughes (3-1, 1 KO) from New York, New York, Hell’s Kitchen born and raised, former NYC Golden Gloves Champion, is head trainer and trains at the famed Church Street Gym, will battle Nelson Morales (3-2).  The Dominican Morales now resides in Scranton, PA.

Terell Bostic (7-1, 1 KO) is a Long Islander, born and raised in Wyandanch, NY. He made his pro debut in 2015 and his only defeat came in his fourth fight on a split decision to an undefeated Omar Bordoy at the Paramount Theater in Huntingdon. Clay Burns (10-16-2, 4 KOs) was born in Alexandra, Louisiana and now resides in Fort Worth, Texas. He began is professional career in 2016 with a draw followed by three knockout wins. He has had an up and down career ever since.

LAS VEGAS – February 22, 2023 – Fighters competing on the David Benavidez vs. Caleb Plant SHOWTIME PPV undercard on Saturday, March 25 took part in a virtual press conference Wednesday before they step into the ring in a Premier Boxing Champions event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The pay-per-view telecast begins at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and features unbeaten rising stars Jesús “Mono” Ramos and Joey Spencer going toe-to-toe in the 10-round super welterweight co-main event, plus rising lightweights Chris “Primetime” Colbert and Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela meet in a 10-round duel, while unbeaten welterweight contender Cody Crowley faces the hard-hitting Abel Ramos in the telecast opener.

JESUS RAMOS JR.

“I’m excited to be here. This is going to be a great card and a huge night. It’s a dream come true to fight at MGM Grand. I’m preparing myself to be my best on March 25, and I’m sure Joey is as well. I think this fight is really going to leave a mark on both of our careers and that people will really remember this one.

“This is not the kind of fight that people our age are taking. I wanted to take this challenge. I’m thankful to Joey for stepping up as well and I can’t wait.

“I was surprised that Joey asked to fight me. Guys usually go other routes and look for different fights. But I was excited. I knew what kind of fight this would be. This is a big fight on a huge card. That’s exactly what I imagined.

“Joey looked good in his last fight. I don’t expect him to be the same fighter against me. I’ve had step up fights like he had too, and I went back and made improvements. I’m sure he’ll do the same, but we’ll be ready.

“My dad [trainer Jesus Ramos Sr.] has made a lot of sacrifices and I’m very proud of everything he’s accomplished. He had to work and train us, because it was the only way to keep the gym afloat. These are the kind of fights that we dreamed of. This is a huge fight and I’m proud of where we’re at right now, but we still have a lot more work to do.

“Who knows what happens on March 25, this could be the start of a big rivalry. It’s going to be entertaining and do a lot for our careers. This only catapults us to the next step towards the bigger fights. We both want to be world champions.

“This new generation is hungry. We want to fight each other. It’s going to bring boxing a lot of big fights and entertaining nights.”

JOEY SPENCER

“I’m just enjoying every minute of this process. What excites me about this fight is that people are excited by it. Growing up as a boxing fan since I was eight years old, I looked up to the young guys who were still proving themselves. Those fights in their career when they first started fighting those big fights were significant. I just remember watching those fights so it excites me to have this first fight have significant meaning  for the rest of our careers.

“I actually asked for this fight in particular. You don’t see these fights in boxing often for a reason. A lot of times people hide behind their promoters. This fight is proof that if two guys want to get in the ring at any stage in their career, even if it doesn’t necessarily follow the specific script that boxing usually follows, you can make a fight that’s outside of the box.

“We’re both young and I think it’s a hot fight for the division. It’s a perfect fight to see who’s ready to go to the next level. So props to Jesus. I think we’re going to put on a great fight. Benavidez vs. Plant is a great fight but I think that this fight is going to be right up there as one of the showstoppers on March 25.

“I think I showed people a little bit in my last fight, but I think I’ve got a lot more to show and that was just a small piece of it. Every fight you gain more experience and I was happy with the performance and happy with the rounds, but at the same time, I’ve added a lot to my game since then. That’s what we focused on in this training camp.

“I think this is definitely a step up but I think it’s the right step up. I’m taking a step up against a guy who’s fresh, young, hungry and that’s a very motivating situation for me. It gets me excited and it fuels the fire that I have inside me.

“I think this is just the start. I think it’s the first fight that people are going to go back to when they look at our careers. I think we’re both going to have long careers and people are going to watch this fight for a long time. That’s a big deal for me. I want this fight to make a statement in the sport. I’m 22. He’s 21. For this to be our coming out party where we may go on to become world champions one day. And who knows? We’re both young so there may be more than one fight between us.

“I don’t see any way that this isn’t an entertaining fight. I’m willing to do whatever it takes. I’m willing to go to the end of myself to get this win for my family. I’m sure he feels the same way.”

CHRIS COLBERT

“I missed the ring. I’m ready to get back and do what I do best and do what I love. Come March 25, I’m coming to put on a show.

“The layoff was more so to get my mind right. I hadn’t lost in over a decade. So it was something that hit hard. When you really love what you do, it’s no joke. I’m not accustomed to losing. I never got used to losing. The layoff was a gift to me. I really needed that.

“I’ll go back down to 130-pounds. I’ve been out for a year, so I wasn’t trying to kill my body to make 130 pounds. Especially when I didn’t have big names to fight there. A lot of people at 135 were calling my name. Valenzuela called my name before on TV, so I have to come give him an early Christmas present.

“I have to go back down and get my belt. That means going back to beat on [WBA 130-Pound World Champion] Hector Luis Garcia. Then I can come back to lightweight. I have something to prove, and the only way to do that is to beat up someone that people say has a lot of potential.

“I wanted to face someone who would come and bring a fight so that the world will see that I’m not playing. I don’t like swimming with fishes, I like swimming with sharks. 

“I always said that I wanted to fight at least one time at MGM Grand and now it’s my time to make it happen.

“The layoff wasn’t really about me finding myself, because I’ve always known who I am. I was doing it big and I think I got a little caught up. I had to settle myself down. I have to just continue to do what I do. A new chapter starts March 25.”

JOSE VALENZUELA

“I’m very excited to come back on March 25 on such a big card overall. Chris Colbert is a great fighter. I’m extremely ready. I’m prepared. I’m focused, and I’m ready to get the win.

“I know what my mistakes were. I know why I took that loss and I know how I felt during the fight. It was just a matter of me getting my stuff together, biting down and staying focused. That’s what I did this training camp.

“It’s been a very serious training camp with David Benavidez because he doesn’t like Caleb Plant, so everybody is fully locked in. It’s the perfect atmosphere for me to come back. Whatever reasons Colbert has for coming back, I have my reasons and I’ll be ready March 25 to put on a hell of a show and get my hand raised.

“The main reason I think I lost my last fight is because I was rushing a lot of things and not taking my time. I wasn’t making the most of my time and I was just going through the days, but now I’m reflecting every day on everything that I’m doing. I’m looking over everything that I’m doing and looking at every little detail.

“I have to give my full attention to Chris Colbert and not focus on a rematch with Edwin De Los Santos. Colbert is a hell of a fighter. I like his style. I’ve been watching him for a bit. It’s going to be a great fight. After I beat him on March 25, we can talk about a rematch with De Los Santos.

“Jose Benavidez Sr. is a very honest man. I’m very honest myself. We don’t lie to each other and we don’t point fingers. I took responsibility for the loss and for my performance and that was that. It was just time to take responsibility, grow up, be a man and continue doing what I love to do.

“Training with the Benavidez family is amazing. The energy in the gym every day since this camp started has been electric. I’ve just been feeding off of it. There’s no beef between me and Chris Colbert. I like him. But this is personal with myself. I have to do this for me and for my family. It’s a promise I made a long time ago and I will continue to go that route.”

CODY CROWLEY

“Fight time is getting close and there’s nothing I love more than fighting. That fire burns inside of me and each day I get closer to being able to hurt someone.

“I hope he’s been training in a phone booth, because that’s what it’s going to feel like in the ring. I don’t like to waste any time. So if you want to fight, I’ll meet you right there in the center of the ring. If you want to run, I’m coming forward and I’m coming to break my opponent down.

“I definitely took a long journey to get here, but it needed to happen for me to be in the position I’m in today. Getting this win will mean that nobody can take away what I’ve worked so hard for and earned. This has been a decade in the making as a professional.

“I’m definitely not looking past March 25. So Abel you better be ready. I’m coming to hunt you down. I’m sure he’s doing the same thing. Hats off to him for stepping up to the fire. I can see it in his eyes that he’s ready.

“Every opponent I face is the toughest opponent of my career. Nobody exists except the person in front of me. I’m sharp, I’m collected and I’m very eager to take on this obstacle.

“I still have a month of work to do. There’s plenty to do. My father took his own life six months ago and I’m fighting this one in his honor.”

ABEL RAMOS

“I’m excited about this fight card. There is going to be a lot of explosive action with me and Crowley. I think our styles are going to match up well for an exciting fight. I can’t wait. I have been training hard, putting in work, and I’m ready to give the fans a show. A phone booth fight is right up my alley. That’s what I want. It’s going to be great for the fans.

“I’m always competitive and fired up to take on a new challenge. That’s what has kept me motivated throughout the years. Watching the fighters that I have fought motivates me more to accomplish my dream to become a world champion, and I’m not going to stop until I get it.

“I am ready for war. I’m ready to get in there and fight and get the win at whatever cost. I am not intimidated by Crowley. I am a veteran and have fought every fighter. I go into each fight to win and make adjustments.”

“We are ready to do whatever it takes to win. That’s our goal right now. If it’s getting into a brawl, then let’s brawl. If it’s being smarter in the ring, then that’s what I’m going to do. The priority is to get a win. The fans are going to get their money’s worth because I’m ready to put on a show for them.”

Born in Uzbekistan and fighting out of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Abdukakhorov (18-1, 10 KOs) rose to the top spot in the IBF rankings before dropping a December 2021 matchup with Cody Crowley. The 29-year-old made his U.S. debut in March 2019, defeating former title challenger Keita Obara by unanimous decision before following up with a wide technical decision triumph over former champion Luis Collazo in October of that year. He will meet the 31-year-old Owens (13-3, 12 KOs) in his seventh fight at The Armory in his hometown. Owens’ last outing saw him drop a decision to current WBA 140-pound champion Alberto Puello in December 2021, snapping a four-fight winning streak.

The 20-year-old Jackson (10-0, 5 KOs) turned pro at 18 in 2020 and stayed busy racking up his unbeaten record over the next two years. Representing Orlando, Fla., Jackson went eight rounds for the first time in his last fight, winning a unanimous decision over Damian Ezequiel Bonelli last October. He faces the 31-year-old Jones (8-2, 5 KOs), a Chapel Hill, North Carolina-native who owns an amateur victory over two-time world champion Regis Prograis in 2011. Jones most recently stopped Brian Jones in round three of their June 2021 matchup.

Spencer (2-0, 1 KO) is the younger brother of rising super welterweight Joey Spencer and turned pro himself August 2021 with a unanimous decision victory over Eliseo Villalobos. The 18-year-old from Linden, Mich., most recently knocked out Deljerro Revello in round four last September. He will be opposed by the 30-year-old Hernandez (3-4-1), who fights out of Wapato, Wash., and most recently lost a decision to Bryce Mills in January.

The non-televised undercard will see lightweight prospect Breeon Carothers (2-0, 2 KOs) in a four-round bout against Indiana’s Kevin Schmidt (0-2), plus Puerto Rican bantamweight prospect Jonathan Lopez (8-0-1, 4 KOs) duels Brazil’s Eduardo Diogo (3-0, 2 KOs) in a six-round attraction.

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 22, 2023) – Two-time Olympic gold medalist Robeisy “El Tren” Ramirez is ready for his first world title opportunity. The Cuban southpaw will face former world champion Isaac Dogboe for the vacant WBO featherweight world title on Saturday, April 1, at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa.
 
Ramirez-Dogboe headlines a stacked card streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+. 
 
Ramirez (11-1, 7 KOs) has won 11 fights since losing in his pro debut in August 2019. The 29-year-old joined forces with Cuban trainer Ismael Salas, who has helped channel his talents into a more professional style. As a result, Ramirez scored three consecutive knockout wins in 2022. He stopped Irish veteran Eric Donovan and starched then-unbeaten contender Abraham Nova with a single straight left hand. Last October, he defeated Jose Matias Romero via ninth-round TKO. Ramirez will face the stiffest test of his career against the 28-year-old Dogboe (24-2, 15 KOs), a Ghanaian former junior featherweight world champion who hopes to conquer a second weight class.

In the much-awaited main event, international superstar Jake “The Problem Child” Paul will, at long last, face undefeated pro boxer Tommy “TNT” Fury, younger brother of heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury.

Paul (6-0, 4 KOs) and Fury were originally slated to face off in December 2021, but Fury withdrew from the bout because of a medical issue.  Paul’s latest win against the legendary Anderson Silva won him ESPNRingside’s 2022 Viral Moment of the Year by dropping Silva in the 8th round.

Hailing from Manchester, England, Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) made his professional debut in 2018, winning by decision. He then knocked out his next four opponents, drawing attention from the boxing world. He most recently shut out Daniel Bocianski over six rounds last April on the Tyson Fury-Dillian Whyte undercard. Fury, a former Love Island reality TV star, is ready for the biggest moment in his professional boxing career. 

In the co-main event, former two-weight world champion Badou Jack “The Ripper” (27-3-3, 16 KOs) will challenge WBC cruiserweight world champion Ilunga Makabu (29-2, 25 KOs). Jack is coming off five consecutive wins, including three by knockout, while Makabu will be making the third defense of his title.

NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 22, 2023)–TONIGHT at The Pro Box Event Center, Junior Middleweight Marques Valle will look to stay undefeated when he takes on Jerrod Tennant in a bout scheduled for six-rounds.

Valle is managed by Split-T Management.

The 24 year-old Valle, fights out of Wesley Chapel, Florida and is undefeated with a record that reads 7-0 with six knockouts.

Valle has a first-round stoppage over Leonidas Fowlkes. In his last out, Valle defeated Luis Midyael via second round disqualification due to excessive holding on December 2, 2022 in Plant City, Florida.

Valle is promoted by Pro Box Promotions.

Tennant of Los Angeles is 8-1 with four knockouts. The 37 year-old Tennant is coming off a first round stoppage over Antoine Ellerson on August 13, 2022 in Houston.

Both Valle and Tennant checked in at the junior middleweight limit of 154 pounds..

QUINCY, Mass. (February 22, 2023) – Massachusetts State Welterweight Champion Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley (10-0, 6 KOs) will make his first title defense on the March 11^th “Springfield Championship Boxing 2” card against undefeated challenger Kenny Larson (6-0, 5 KOs), of Salem (MA), in the 8-round main event, at MassMutural Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.

“Springfield Championship Boxing 2”, presented by Granite Chin Promotions (GCP), will be streamed live on BXNGTV.com.

The 24-year-old Whitley, fighting out of nearby Holyoke (MA), captured the Mass. 147-pound division belt last November 19^th at MassMutual Center, when he won an 8-round majority decision over Kris Jacobs (5-2-1, 2 KOs) in the main event.

“I’m excited to be headlining again at home (Holyoke is only 8 miles from Springfield,” the fast-rising Whitley said. “The first show was good and this one will be great. Headlining here is something special for me. I love the energy I feel from the crowd.”

“Denzel is getting better with each fight and he is eager to step up in competition to show he is the best 147-pound fighter around,” GCP president Chris Traietti commented. “He jumped on the chance to showcase that against Kenny Larson, who has a good amount of amateur experience, comes from a great gym, and always comes to fight. Two undefeated guys going at it to prove they are ready for the next level. It is going to be an awesome main event!”

It’s extremely rare for two undefeated prospects to fight each other, especially so early in their pro careers. Larson, 33, won a 6-round majority decision from Ryan Thomas Clark (2-2, 1 KO) last November 23^rd in Windham, New Hampshire. Larson was a 3-time Central New England Golden Gloves runner-up, as well as a 2016 New England Golden Gloves champion in the novice division.

“I’ve never seen him fight,” Whitley remarked. “I hadn’t heard of him until I was offered the fight. I’ve heard he likes to come forward and, if he does, this is going to be an exciting fight, because styles make fights. I’ve been training to fight somebody with his style. I can fight all different ways. I always adapt in the ring. I’ll come in a little different, but I still have my style. I learn about my opponent in the ring. I adapt to my opponent and then open up my arsenal. I’ll be ready.”

Whitley hopes to have three additional fights in 2023, including a fight for another title – regional or national – and in a 10-rounder for the first time by the end of this year.

First, though, he has to get past his toughest opponent to date, Kenny Larson.

In the 6-round co-featured event, Springfield lightweight Isaiah “Baby Warrior” Cruz (5-0, 3 KOs) will take on Akeem “Action Action” Jackson (6-5, 5 KOs).

INDIO, CA (February 21, 2023) – With his highly anticipated Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN main event approaching quickly, one of boxing’s most energetic and fan-friendly fighters, NABA Super Flyweight Titleholder John “Scrappy” Ramirez (10-0, 8 KOs) of Los Angeles hosted a media workout at the Joel Diaz Training Camp in Indio. He will be fighting for the vacant WBA Continental Americas Super Flyweight Title against Luis “Callado” Padilla (15-3-2, 2 KOs) of Guadalajara, Mexico. The event will take place on Thursday, February 23 at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino and will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT / 9:00 p.m. ET.

The first Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN show of the year will also feature a special co-main event as Coachella Valley’s beloved, undefeated local fighter Manuel “Gucci” Flores (14-0, 11 KOs) will measure up against Franklin “El Abuelo” Gonzalez of Los Teques, Venezuela (25-1, 25 KOs). The eight-round bantamweight fight will be guaranteed action, as both fighters have a string of knockout performances.

NEW YORK – February 21, 2023 – A pair of unbeaten prospects in the Salita Promotions stable will kick off their 2023 campaigns as middleweight Da’Velle Smith and super lightweight Joshua Pagan enter the ring in separate four-round attractions this Saturday, February 25 from Motor City Casino in Detroit.

Both fighters will be competing in their home state of Michigan, as Dearborn’s Smith and Grand Rapids’ Pagan will take on fighters to be announced shortly. The pair join another Salita Promotions stablemate competing on the card, as rising middleweight Joseph Hicks Jr. faces fellow unbeaten Bilal Quintyne in a six-round attraction.

“Da’Velle and Joshua and are two of the best U.S. prospects out there,” said Dmitriy Salita, President of Salita Promotions. “Both are born and raised in the rich culture of Michigan and Detroit boxing. I am excited about their upcoming fights and the world class potential that both of them have.”.

The 22-year-old Smith (4-0, 3 KOs) made his pro debut in September 2021, winning the WBC’s inaugural Big Belt Championship by knocking out Ricky Evans in the first round. Smith would follow that triumph with a pair of knockouts in November 2021 and May 2022, before most recently winning a unanimous decision over Devontae McDonald last August.

“I can’t wait to put on a show for my hometown fans,” said Smith. “My training camp went great. My plan is to keep climbing up the ranks towards a middleweight world title. I’m ready to show the world who Da’Velle Smith is.”

Pagan (4-0, 2 KOs) won the 2021 U.S. Amateur Welterweight National Championship with a unanimous decision over Keon Davis. The 23-year-old followed that up by turning pro in January 2022, scoring KO’s in his first two outings. Most recently, Pagan won a six-round unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten Jeremiah Lewis Watts in October 2022.

“Training camp has gone really great and making the weight has been getting easier and easier,” said Pagan. “I’ve also had really good sparring for this fight and everything is on point for Saturday night. LONDON (Feb. 21, 2023) –Mikaela Mayer is coming back to the U.K. for the second time in a row.

The former unified junior lightweight champion will make her lightweight debut against former two-time junior welterweight world champion Christina “Medusa” Linardatou on Saturday, April 15, at Copper Box Arena in London.

Mayer-Linardatou will serve as the co-feature to the WBO interim heavyweight title clash between undefeated British knockout artist Joe Joyce and Chinese contender Zhilei Zhang.

Promoted by Queensberry Promotions, Joyce-Zhang, Mayer-Linardatou and undercard bouts will stream live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+. 

“Mikaela Mayer made such a big hit in the UK that it only made sense to for her to fight across the pond again,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum. “Mikaela is still one of the very best fighters in the world, and she demanded a tough fight for her lightweight debut. Linardatou has proven herself at the world-class level and should give Mikaela a run for her money.” 

Mayer (17-1, 5 KOs), a 2016 U.S. Olympian, signed with Top Rank in 2017 and captured the WBO junior lightweight championship with a unanimous decision victory against Ewa Brodnicka in October 2020. The following year, the Los Angeles native unified the WBO and IBF titles in an action-packed slugfest against Maiva Hamadouche. In her last fight, Mayer suffered the first defeat of her career, a razor-thin split decision setback to Alycia Baumgardner at London’s O2 Arena. Mayer wants to reverse her lone defeat, but she’ll first step up to lightweight to face Linardatou, the only woman to defeat Baumgardner in the paid ranks.

Mayer said, “The second I returned to the U.S. after my last fight in London, I called my team and told them to get me a fight ASAP. I didn’t want to wait, and I didn’t want to fight anyone other than a top contender! I’m hungry and motivated to prove that I’m still the best. When Top Rank sealed the deal with the tough and experienced Christina Linardatou, I was excited and inspired. She’s an aggressive, come-forward fighter, which is going to force me use all my tools. I always love the energy and support I get when visiting the UK, and I’m excited to come back and give everyone a great fight.”

Linardatou (14-2, 6 KOs) was born in the Dominican Republic but moved to Greece as a young child, where she developed her love for boxing. When she was 26, she returned to her native country to begin her pro career with a first-round technical knockout over Claribel Ferreras. The 34-year-old remained undefeated until unsuccessfully challenging Delfine Persoon for the WBC lightweight world title in 2016. Linardatou bounced back with four more wins, including a victory over Baumgardner and a win against Kandi Wyatt to capture the vacant WBO junior welterweight championship. Linardatou lost her 140-pound belt to Katie Taylor in 2019 but regained that title with a unanimous decision over Prisca Vicot in February 2020. Linardatou returned from a 29-month layoff last July, winning a six-round decision over Aleksandra Vujovic.

Linardatou said, “I’m excited to be fighting Mikaela. She is coming off a loss to Alycia Baumgardner, whom I easily beat some years ago. I know she will be looking to make a statement in this fight. This is my first big fight after having a baby, which means my mission is different. Prior to having a baby, I would fight for titles and money. Now, I am fighting for legacy and to show my son how great his mom is.”

LOS ANGELES (February 21, 2023) – There’s a new sheriff in town and his name is Zach Spiller!

The 6’ 4”, 265-pound heavyweight from Houston will open up the Golden Boy Promotions card on DAZN this Thursday night, streaming live from Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, on a card headlined by his 3 Prime Management (PM) stablemate, NABA super flyweight champion John “Scrappy” Ramirez (10-0, 7 KOs).

Spiller, who made his pro debut a year ago, (2-0, 2 KOs) faces Kaleel Carter (3-3, 3 KOs) in a 4-round bout. “This is a great opportunity for me,” Spiller explained. “It caught me off guard. 3 Point Management (3 PM) from Los Angeles, CA called to tell me he had gotten me on Scrappy’s show and that I’d be opening up the DAZN stream. I’m very appreciative of them, Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN for this opportunity to fight on a large platform. Scrappy has really helped me out a lot with advice on how to handle myself. I don’t know much about my opponent other than he fought on the same card as me in our last fight. I’m living my dream of being a professional boxer. I’m still learning, but I do feel I’ll be one of the best.”

A southpaw with pop in both hands, the 29-year-old Spiller was born in Missouri and moved to Texas when he was 10. Despite his size in a state like Texas, Spiller didn’t play football or any sport for that matter. He started boxing at the age of 16, when one of his friends told Spiller’s mother that she should get him into boxing, largely because he was getting in fights all the time. His father, Terry, was an MMA fighter and a few of his relatives boxed. In short, Spiller has fighting in his blood.

Spiller grew up in Killeen, Texas, with his good friend, undefeated heavyweight prospect Darius Fulghum (3-0, 3 KOs), who, unlike Spiller, was an elite U.S. amateur boxer. Spiller was in only four amateur matches, winning three as a novice but suffered a dislocated shoulder in his lone fight in the open division. A series of injuries kept him sidelined for several years and when he returned to the ring, he decided to turn pro last year. He believes that his lack of amateur boxing has been compensated for with the invaluable experience he’s gained against top-notch heavyweight such as Jared Anderson and Filip Hrgovic, among others. He leaves this weekend for Las Vegas to join Joe Joyce’s training camp as a sparring partner.

Self-described as a force who makes good adjustments in the ring, Spiller attracted 3 Point Management’s (3PM) attention back in a Houston gym. After spending the day with the Houston-based fighter, they invited Spiller to spar at Brickhouse Boxing Club in North Hollywood, California.

Hialeah, FL / February 21, 2023 – Former three-time world champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, with a professional record of 20-3-1 (13 KOs), will return to the ring for the first time in almost one year when he takes on veteran Jesus Martinez in the 10-round bantamweight main event at Hialeah Park on Friday, February 24, 2023.

Rigondeaux, whose last bout was a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of Vincent Astrolabio on February 26, 2022 in Dubai, has been sidelined since suffering severe facial burns and eye injuries in a freak kitchen accident at his home in Miami nine months ago.

Now 42 years of age, the former WBO/WBA Super Bantamweight and WBA Bantamweight world champion will attempt to tap the fountain of youth in his 25^th professional fight as he looks to win for the first time since defeating Liborio Solis in February of 2020.

Martinez of Miami via Colombia, has a record of 33-17-1 with 16 knockouts. Martinez has defeated Jonathan Burgos (9-2-1), Miguel Martinez (20-2), Angel Berrio (14-2). Outlaw landed solid uppercuts and body shots, and put together eight complete rounds against the durable Shaw.

Upstart super lightweight Joseph Veazey made quick work of veteran Danny Murray as he registered a first-round stoppage in their scheduled six-round ABF Atlantic Title bout.

Veazey dropped Murray with a thunderous left hook to the body and the bout stopped at 1:24.

Veazey of South Baltimore, Maryland is now 9-0 with six-knockouts. Veazey seems like a prospect who is ready to step up and fight on a televised platform.

Francois Scarboro Jr. stopped Jorge Osvaldo Bargallo in the fourth and final round of their super featherweight bout.

The time of the stoppage was 2:00 for Scarboro of Cheverly, Maryland and is now 4-0 with three knockouts.

Micah Terrill made a successful boxing debut with a third round stoppage over Keynan Williams in their four-round light heavyweight battle.

Terrill finished off Williams with a body shot at 2:15. Terrill, who is also an MMA fighter from Edgewater, Maryland is 1-0 with one knockout.

Francis Oran won a four-round unanimous decision over Charles Johnson in a heavyweight bout.

Oran of Bethlehem, PA is promoted by Jeter Promotions and King’s Promotions won by shutout scores of 40-36 on all cards and is now 2-0.

Jeffrey Yu remained undefeated with a first-round stoppage over Cary Caprio in their four-round super featherweight bout.

Yu of Vienna, Virginia got the stoppage at 59 seconds to improve to 2-0 with two knockouts.

Vincent Mosca won an exciting second round stoppage over Albert Tulley in a scheduled four-round light heavyweight bout.

The time of the finish was 2:48 for Mosca of Nottingham, Maryland and is now 2-0 with one knockout.

Jaqeem Hutcherson had to get up off the canvas and made it three wins over Prentice Canada as he grinded out a six-round unanimous decision to win the ABF Atlantic Featherweight Title.

In the opening frame, Canada landed a left hook that made Hutcherson’s glove touch the canvas for a ruled knockdown. It was a close fight throughout that saw Hutcherson eek out several rounds for the victory.

Hutcherson of Capitol Heights, Maryland won by scores of 59-55, 59-55 and 57-56 and is now 7-1-1.

In an entertaining super bantamweight, Ervin Fuller III won his pro debut with a four-round unanimous decision over fellow debutant Alejandro Leon.

Fuller of Fort Washington, Maryland won by scores of 40-36 twice and 39-37.

Ahmad Jones remained undefeated with a four-round unanimous decision over Michael Crain in a super lightweight fight.

Jones dropped Crain in the opening round. Crain battled back but came up short as Jones took the cards by tally’s of 39-36 twice and 39-35. Jones of Baltimore is now 4-0.

Colby Madison stopped Darryl Clark after round one of their six-round heavyweight bout.

Madison dropped Clark three-times in the opening frame and the bout was stopped in between rounds one and two.

Madison of Baltimore is 11-4-2 with seven knockouts.

Vitalii Gubkin won a six-round majority decision over veteran Christopher Brooker in a super middleweight fight.

Gubkin of Alexandria, Virginia won by scores of 60-54, 58-56 and 57-57 and is now 6-3-1. Brooker of Philadelphia is 16-13.

Derrick Vann took his second split decision from AJ Williams in what some ringsiders have called a disputed victory.

Vann of Philadelphia took two cards by scores of 58-56, while Williams won a card 58-56.

A few weeks got the call for this fight, but we had been training. I was gonna be on the Tszyu Charlo card. My opponent is tall and lanky and has had many fights in MX. I know he comes forward and likes to throw hooks and he has a good record.  He doesn’t use his reach to his advantage and likes to fight inside. He doesn’t like to fight moving backwards. I’m going to utilize my athleticism and connect on more devastating shots. My last fight (ProBox in FLA) was the furthest away from home I had been for a fight. But now that’s in the rear-view mirror and I want to win better than I did last time. From that fight I learned perseverance and just being myself and landing shots and being confident.”

MANUEL GALLEGOS – “A month ago I got the call for this fight.  I’d been working out for a February 8 fight then was advised this is better opportunity.  I was inactive for some time due to covid then had a hard time finding fights. There are not many Mexicans in Mexico in my weight class. I know he’s a tough fighter and a southpaw which is always difficult but we have been training for southpaw so it shouldn’t be a problem. We have found some fighters in other gyms same size as Vansicle and southpaws. In the fight that I lost I felt very weak due to making the weight. It was supposed to be at 160 then when I got there they said 154. I agreed because I thought it would be easy but turned out not so. In the last year packed on some muscle and also had a growth spurt.  On Wednesday, I will use my reach and try to avoid letting him get inside.”

DARELLE VALSAINT: “I’ve been fighting right but I’ve been switching up. I am both. I write with both hands; I throw a ball with both hands, and I shoot a basketball with both hands. At the beginning of my career, I was orthodox but I broke my right hand when I was 13 then learned how to box southpaw. And do everything else left-handed also. I recently changed my diet and been eating right.  Drinking a lot of water and eating fruit.  It has given me more speed. This fight was supposed to happen in December, but I was having some back problems. Turns out that doing some strength and conditioning and cutting out dairy and other bad foods and staying hydrated got me all better.  Chicken and veggies so now I am pain free. The back problem definitely hit me that I had to get right. This is a step up for me. I want everyone to say, ‘who is this guy coming up at ProBox.’

LUCAS de ABREU: “I was getting ready for a December 16 fight that got cancelled then I got the call for this fight. The last fight I lost was a good fight. What I learned in that fight is that I can go ten rounds no problem – I had good strength and conditioning.  I also learned when you go in another’s backyard, I need to get the KO. I consider myself a boxer that also has punching power. My favorite boxer in Juan Manuel Marquez and I also like him as a commentator. I don’t know much about my opponent – I know about myself and my work and what I need to do to prepare myself. I have confidence to win the fight. I need a KO and I am very happy for this fight, and I hope to represent my family and my trainers to do my best when I get in the ring.”

As an amateur, Lopez was 2015 National Junior Olympics Champion, 2018 Georgia State Golden Gloves Champion and 2018 National Golden Gloves runner-up. Lopez will have his hands full going up against the rugged and experienced Rios, the former Argentina Federation middleweight champion who successfully defended that title twice.

NAJEE LOPEZ: “I started as a heavyweight and fought heavyweight in amateurs. I am now taking food health and nutrition seriously. My last fight was at 186 and the one before that 192.5.  I was really fast at heavyweight now I am faster. I had power then and I feel I haven’t lost any while at these lower weights.  I feel more in shape. I feel like I got sharper. I have speed and power and use whatever is needed for that particular fight. Worst part of having a broken jaw? Not being able to fight.  I shadow boxed. I know that Rios doesn’t press the issue. He’ll back up into the ropes then shoot.  He flicks the jab, and his footwork is good but it’s nothing we can’t handle.  I’ll take my time and throw a lot of jabs then take him out.”

CRISTIAN RIOS: “I’m going to fight in short distance.  I usually fight at middleweight and walk around at 171.  I was not feeling well for that fight (lost by stoppage). I waited for four hours to weigh-in waiting for the opponent to show up.  He would have never beat me if it wasn’t for that wait. I have been training in Boston since December. I work as a machinist in the railroad in Argentina. I fight because I like it. My job will give me up to a year furlough to train and fight. (Must be good at his job). I’ve seen a couple of his fights – he’s good – I need to keep the fight in short distance, that is the key to victory.

JARROD TENNAT:  For this fight I trained at Main Street Gym in Houston, but I am from LA. I just saw a little clip of my opponent. The long lay-off I had was I got a job as a radiographer.  My one loss? It was a DQ. He was holding me and the ref was telling him to stop – for the third time – and he wouldn’t then I threw him off me and he hit the ground and acted like he was hurt and couldn’t continue. I’m happy for this opportunity. I haven’t seen much on him I will just go in and do what I do, which is good defense and stay on the inside as much as possible.  When inside, he is taller, so my punches will get there faster than his.  Good head movement and make him miss and make him pay.

I watched his amateur fights.  He is fast and has some power, so my objective is to box.”

CHESTER, PA (FEBRUARY 20, 2023)–Dylan Price remained undefeated with a 10-round unanimous decision over gritty Jobert Alvarez to win the WBO Global and WBC Intercontinental; Bantamweight title in front of a near-capacity crowd at the Elevations Event Center in Chester, Pennsylvania.

The special two-fight card was promoted by Price Promotions.

Dylan Price, who had nine-time and four division world champion Nonito Donaire in his corner, was quick and started his flurries as he mixed up his attack by landing head and body shots. Alvarez was extremely game as he would often try to land his own combinations in return. Price landed the much harder punches, and snapped the head back of Alvarez on several occasions. Price was urged on by a supportive fan base. Alvarez kept Price honest with some solid combinations, but never put any fear into Price and the undefeated Sicklerville, New Jersey fighter continued his pressure and effective punching until the final bell.

The world-ranked Price won by scores of 100-90 and 98-92 twice to raise his mark to 16-0. Alvarez of Renton, Washington via General Santos City, Philippines is 20-5-2.

The co-feature opener saw the impressive pro debut of Dylan’s 18 year-old brother Devin Price.

Price stopped 16-fight veteran Matias Arriagada in the opening round of their junior welterweight fight.

Price dropped Arriagada three times with two of them coming on body shots. The fight was halted at 2:07.

MINNEAPOLIS – February 20, 2023 – Hard-hitting KO artist Subriel Matías plans to kick start a big year for his native Puerto Rico when he faces unbeaten Jeremias Ponce for the vacant IBF 140-pound world title this Saturday, February 25 headlining live on SHOWTIME from The Armory in Minneapolis in a Premier Boxing Champions event.

“I represent both my country of Puerto Rico and my city of Fajardo each time I step into the ring,” said Matías. “When I win on February 25, it will only be the beginning of a glorious year for Puerto Rican sports. Not only will I be world champion, but hopefully we’ll win the World Baseball Classic so we can all rejoice.”

To put himself in position to fight for the world title, Matías has put together three of the best performances of his career following a decision loss to Petro Ananyan in February 2020. Matías bounced back by stopping two previously unbeaten fighters, Malik Hawkins and Batyrzhan Jukembayev, to set up a rematch with Ananyan. Matías was able to drop and stop Ananyan in the ninth-round of that fight and set up this showdown with Ponce. Argentina’s Ponce will enter the fight as the underdog, but for Matías, he sees that his opponent holds similar attributes to one of Ponce’s countrymen.

“Ponce is tough and he possesses a unique style,” said Matías. “I would compare him to Marcos Maidana, who’s shocked the boxing world plenty of times. I don’t see a lot of people similar to him in boxing nowadays. Ponce is a great fighter, and I respect both him and Argentina. But my goal is to not let this fight go the distance.”

In preparing for his first world title opportunity, Matías took up camp in the remote Jiquipilco, Mexico, which is located two hours outside of Mexico City, and has stayed there for over 10 months as he nears a potentially life-changing fight.

“Being in this location has helped me find the peace and focus that I needed to be ready for this fight,” said Matias. “I’ve had great sparring that’s helped me prepare for a lot of different styles and I’ve been running six times a week.”

Although the 30-year-old has thrived in training, he admits that amongst everything that could be coming, he most looks forward to reuniting with his family after February 25.

“My youngest daughter was born a week after my last fight, so I was only able to be with her for three months,” said Matías. “We keep in touch constantly, but the first thing I’m going to do after the fight is spend time with my three daughters. I’m blessed to have three beautiful princesses that fill my heart, and it’s my duty to take care of them.”

After expressing his respect for his unbeaten opponent, Matías made clear that his sights are set squarely on one of the division’s big names, as he hopes to go right after WBC 140-pound world champion Regis Prograis with a win on February 25.

SAUDI ARABIA (February 20, 2023) – The Riyadh based mega promoter Skill Challenge Entertainment Enterprises known as SCEE have appointed Las Vegas based Manager, Advisor and former World Kickboxing Champion, Amer Abdallah as the Head of Boxing Operations for the company.

SCEE, founded by His Highness Prince Khalid bin Abdulaziz AlSaud are responsible for biggest fights in the Middle East, primarily out of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia including Anthony Joshua vs Andy Ruiz II and most recently Oleksander Usyk vs Anthony Joshua II.

Abdallah was recently brought onboard by the Prince to oversee the boxing operations and put together some of biggest fights to be made.

The next event scheduled is the highly anticipated challenge of Jake Paul’s career dubbed “The Truth” on February 26th when he takes on Tommy Fury in an 8-round bout. With two previous failed attempts at making the fight happen, both fighters have now arrived in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and are prepared to square off next week.

“The Truth” Paul (6-0, 4 KOs) vs Fury (8-0, 4 KOs) will be shown in the United States on ESPN PPV with the live broadcast beginning at 11am PST / 2pm EST. The co-feature on the bout is for the WBC Cruiserweight Title between defending champion Illunga Junior Makabu (29-2, 25 KOs) and Badou Jack (27-3-3, 16 KOs).

NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 20, 2023)–Two Split-T Management fighters remained undefeated with solid victories over the weekend.

Friday night in Topeka, Kansas, Ardreal Holmes won a 10-round split decision over Ismael Villareal in a battle of previously undefeated junior middleweights.

The bout headlined a SHOBOX: The New Generation and was broadcasted LIVE on SHOWTIME®.

Holmes of Flint, Michigan, who was making his second appearance on SHOBOX, boxed very well from the outside as he used his 6’2″ frame to box from the outside and landed some solid combinations on the inside against the charging Villareal.

Holmes was very effective with his straight left hand and well-timed uppercuts.

Holmes won by tallies of 97-93 and 96-94, while a third card somehow gave Villareal a 96-94 edge to keep his perfect record intact at 13-0.

“I felt like he won two, three rounds,” Holmes said. “I don’t know where that one card came from. I feel like I dominated the fight and felt like he might have gotten two or three middle rounds, but that was the max. I felt like I out-jabbed him and out-fought him. I felt like this was a step-up from last time I fought, and this was a tougher fight. I’m only 13 fights in so I’m going to keep improving.”

Saturday night in Pomona, California, Asa Stevens remained undefeated with a stoppage over veteran Jenn Gonzalez after the second round of their four-round featherweight clash.

Stevens dropped Gonzalez in the opening round and continued the assault in the second round. Gonzalez called it a night after the second round.

Stevens of Waianae, Hawaii is now 4-0 with two knockouts.

The 22 year-old Stevens is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
