Lincoln, RI – The city of Providence has its newest champion.

Super featherweight Toka Kahn Clary captured the WBC Silver Title Saturday night in the main event of CES Boxing’s season finale at Bally’s Twin River Lincoln Casino Resort with a 97-93, 98-92, 98-92 unanimous decision win over tough Puerto Rican challenger Jonathan Oquendo.

Born in Liberia, the 31-year-old southpaw Kahn has made Providence his home since for more than two decades and now has a third title to add to his collection following his first fight as an official member of the CES Boxing family; Kahn previously captured the NABA featherweight and super featherweight titles.

The fight itself tested Kahn’s poise and resilience. The hard-charging Oquendo (31-8) came forward the entire fight, forcing Kahn to box effectively against the ropes while picking his shots carefully to slow Oquendo’s progress. Well-placed uppercuts and body blows eventually took their toll as Kahn wore down his opponent over the first eight rounds and subsequently increased the pressure in rounds nine and 10 to seal the victory.

Oquendo, a former world-title challenger who has faced the likes of Jamel Herring, Lamont Roach, and Abner Mares in his career, to name a few, was every bit as tough as advertised and a real strong test for Kahn following a near two-year layoff since Kahn’s fight against Olympian Shakur Stevenson. Kahn is now 29-3 as he inches one step closer to a milestone victory.

“He was a tough veteran,” Kahn said. “He’s been around for a long time. He’s fought former world champions and he gave me a hell of a fight.

“I’m now looking for my 30th win. It doesn’t who it’s against. Whoever it is, I’m ready for it.”

Undefeated Weymouth, MA, super welterweight prospect Frank “The Tank” Hogan kept his perfect record intact in the co-feature, stopping Philadelphia’s Derrick Vann (3-6) at the 2:25 mark of the second round. Hogan clipped Vann in the opening round to score an early knockdown and then came out the aggressor in the second round, sending Vann into the ropes with a deadly two-punch combo to officially put an end to the bout.

“I knew I’d end up catching him,” Hogan said. “I like to come out, show the fans what they want to see, and eventually put my opponent to sleep. I really want to work on my boxing and show the world I can take on anyone.”

Earlier in the week, Stamford, CT, rival Chordale Booker called out Hogan on social media, and while Hogan didn’t respond directly – “The haters just want to jump on my train; you know who you are” – Hogan’s promoter Jimmy Burchfield Sr. formally issued the challenge.

“Once [Booker] wants to sign that contract,” Burchfield said, “We’re all in.”

In the toughest test of his career, Providence, RI, heavyweight Sean Bey (8-0) faced 92-fight vet Terrell Woods of Arkansas, earning a methodical 40-36 unanimous decision win on all three scorecards. Bey entered the fight having won his previous seven by knockout – five in the first round and two in the second – but the durable Woods (28-56-9) withstood Bey’s most ferocious attacks while mounting just enough offense on occasion to keep himself in the fight.

“I wish I could’ve gotten that eighth knockout,” Bey said, “but we got it done.”

East Providence, RI, lightweight Elijah Peixoto (4-0) ended a two-year layoff in style, outworking pro debut Robert Banks (0-1) of Baldwin, NY, in a unanimous decision win, 40-36 across the board. Having battled multiple injuries since his last fight in October of 2020, Peixoto looked as fast and sharp as ever, using his exceptional hand speed to change levels on Banks, who found himself backpedaling most of the fight.

Joining Peixoto was Providence super featherweight and Big Six Boxing Academy teammate Michael “Bling Bling” Valentin (7-1-1), who ended a three-year layoff with a 40-36 unanimous decision win over Puerto Rican challenger Joshua Maldonado (1-3). Valentin looked patient and sharp despite the early nerves and simply out-boxed Maldonado, landing effectively to the head and body while sustaining little to no damage.

Afterward, Valentin called out Springfield, MA, veteran Joshua Orta, whom Valentin lost to in his last fight in November of 2019.

“Tonight was a long time coming,” Valentin said. “It truly feels amazing to be back in my home at Twin River. I’m looking forward to being more active again.

“Josh Orta, stay tuned because I’m coming for your ass. You know that’s who I’m coming for. That’s the only fight I want.”

Fighting for the first time since 2019, Brockton, MA, heavyweight Chad Leoncello (1-0-1) earned his first career win, stopping pro debut Gabriel Costa (0-1) of Woburn, MA, with a vicious body shot at 1:49 of the second round. Leoncello ate a few right hands in the opening round, but kept working the body, which eventually softened Costa to the point where Leoncello managed to land a hard right hook to the ribs that sent Costa to the canvas.

Nicknamed “The Lion,” the 39-year-old Leoncello has only been boxing for six years. He battled substance abuse issues and has been sober since 2016. He made his pro debut for CES in 2019, fighting to a draw against Omar Acosta.

London calls for the light-heavyweight king. WBC, WBO and IBF world champion Artur Beterbiev will defend his belts against big-punching British challenger Anthony Yarde at the OVO Arena Wembley on Saturday, January 28.

The WBO No.1 contender gets his shot at the Montreal-based Beterbiev (18-0, 18 KOs), boxing’s only world champion with a 100 percent knockout ratio. He will be fighting professionally in the United Kingdom for the first time, with the highly decorated former amateur having fought in London at the 2012 Olympic Games.

Promoted by Frank Warren and Queensberry, in association with Top Rank, this huge 175-pound showdown will be shown exclusively on BT Sport in the UK and streaming live and exclusive on ESPN+ in the U.S.

He is a dangerous fighter, and I know Artur will be switched on for one of the toughest bouts of his illustrious career.”

Beterbiev won his first world title in November 2017 with a 12th-round stoppage of Enrico Koelling and defended his IBF belt on two further occasions – including against Britain’s Callum Johnson – before entering into a unification match against WBC champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk in October 2019. Ukrainian puncher Gvozdyk, who was unbeaten at the time, was stopped in the 10th round. 

Beterbiev defended his titles against Adam Deines and Marcus Browne ahead of a three-belt unification against WBO champion Joe Smith Jr. in June at Hulu Theater Madison Square Garden, where the American was stopped in two rounds. In the amateur ranks, Beterbiev won silver at the 2007 World Championships before striking gold at the 2009 event. He also won gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 European Championships.

“I never back down from a challenge, and Anthony Yarde is a top contender who asked for this fight. I look forward to fighting in London for the first time since the Olympics,” Beterbiev said. “Yarde called me ‘slow’ after my fight with Joe Smith Jr., but slow and steady wins the race. And on January 28, I will win in London.”

The Wembley event represents a second world title attempt from Yarde (23-2, 22 KOs) who previously travelled to Chelyabinsk, Russia, to take on the long-standing champion Sergey Kovalev, ultimately being stopped in the 11th round after coming close to forcing a finish himself in the eighth round. Yarde’s first title came in fight No. 11 when he knocked out Chris Hobbs in four rounds for the Southern Area belt. 

Yarde then fought seven consecutive fights with either the WBO European or Intercontinental belts at stake, or both, as Yarde knocked out each of those foes in seven rounds or less. 

Post-Kovalev, Yarde continued with fights during the pandemic against Dec Spelman and a domestic dust-up against Lyndon Arthur. Yarde dropped a split decision against his Manchester rival, and after a swift comeback fight in Birmingham, Yarde sought redemption against Arthur. The vintage Yarde returned, and he knocked out Arthur in four rounds to once again earn the WBO No. 1 spot.

“January 28 will be my night,” said Yarde. “My destiny playing out in my home city, and this is what I have been longing for throughout my professional career, which started at Wembley. I won’t make any big predictions for this fight against a strong unified champion in Artur Beterbiev, but what I will say is that I will leave nothing to chance, and I am at my best when I fight fire with fire.”

Wantagh, Long Island (November 18, 2022) – Fans were treated to no shortage of action in last nights “Shore Wars” in Wantagh. Thursday night marked the first ever professional boxing fight card in Mulcahy’s history. With a unique fan experience that includes table seating and waiter service for food and drinks, the in very intimate setting is a boxing fans dream. In the main event, the crowd roared as undefeated super welterweight, “THE JACKPOT” TYRONE “PRETTY BOY” JAMES, in classic “Pretty Boy” style, danced his way to the ring during his ring walk, to stand across OMAR “THE GRINCH” SIALA (now, 39-21-3 23KO’s). James was busy early, sticking his jab and moving with a purpose. Whenever Siala was near the ropes, James took advantage by letting his hands go. James hurt Siala in the middle of the first round, but Siala survived. In the second, James continued his onslaught, finding a home around Siala’s defensive guard, and dropped Siala, who beat the count. James could see Siala wilting and pounced, closing the show at 1:19 into the second round. With the win, James sets himself up for big opportunities in 2023. James improved to 13-0 10KO’s, Siala fell to 39-21-3 23KO’s.

James summarized his emphatic victory, “I want to thank Star Boxing and everyone who showed up to Shore Wars! It was so great ending the year with that turn out and I hope to see you guys back at the next fight. As for the fight I take my hat off to my opponent Omar, he was a cagey vet who had more knockouts (23) then I had fights (12). He came out here and tried to upset ‘The Jackpot,’ but looks like the casino won again. Enjoy the holidays see you next year – ‘CHA CHING.’”

Irish standout “THE SILENT ASSASSIN” RYAN O’ROURKE returned stateside for the second time looking to add to his unblemished record against heavy handed German ANDREAS “MAESTRO” MAIER. While Maier entered with six knockouts in his eight victories, it was the 23-year-old O’Rourke who displayed accurate power shots, taking the fight right to Maier from the opening bell. Maier tried to fight through O’Rourke’s frenzy, but the 6’1” Irishman was too much for him, dropping Maier three times with a sharp right hand, on his way to a first-round stoppage at 2:53 of the first round. O’Rourke improved to 9-0, 2KO’s. Maier fell to 8-7 6KO’s.

Rising Long Island prospect, ZAY “NO CHOICE” FLAHERTY, wasted no time doing what he does best, attacking the body of KEENAN RAYMOND. Raymond started fast, but Flaherty maintained his composure and would return the favor dropping Raymond with a body shot. Raymond would rise, but Flaherty was on the attack and would drop Raymond two more times, before referee Al LoBianco stopped the fight at the 2:43 mark of round one. Flaherty improved to 5-0 3KO’s. Raymond fell to 1-5-1.

The highly anticipated all NY Cruiserweight battle between Uniondale’s, EMMANUEL ETIENNE and the Bronx, AFUNWA KING did not disappoint. King and Etienne both came out of the gate with an adrenalin rush opening minute. King got the better of the first big exchange, hurting Etienne to the body, before coming back upstairs with a big right hand that floored Etienne. Etienne rose before the ten-count, but referee Al LoBianco would call a stop to the action at the 2:51 mark of round one. King improved to 6-1 3KO’s, previously undefeated, Etienne fell to 2-1 1KO.

In another all–New York super featherweight bout, IMAN LEE of Yonkers fought DOM BREEN of Staten Island. Lee put the pedal to the metal, never allowing Breen to get comfortable. Fighting behind crisp straight punches, Lee took control and never gave it up, scoring three knockdowns on his way to a first round TKO victory at the 2:47 mark of the first round.

Former WBA International Super Lightweight champion Tom Farrell (21-5, 5 KOs) takes on the unbeaten Harlem Eubank at York Hall on November 25^th. With the fight set to be live on Channel 5, Farrell looks to stop Eubank in his tracks and put his name into the public eye.

Back in June, ‘Fazza’ beat Olaide Fijabi in a tough contest, with the Scouse fighter doing enough to convince the judges that he had outpointed his opponent and has been training hard since in preparation for his upcoming bout.

Farrell has been in camp now for eight weeks and said, “we’ve had plenty of time in camp, it’s been a good solid camp. I’ve had plenty of sparring with likes of Sam Maxwell recently so it’s a good level of sparring.”

“I’ve had a look at Harlem of course to see what he does well and things we can work on but I’m not focussing too much on him. I’m focussing on being the best version of myself.”

That win over Fijabi in Liverpool took Farrell to a record of 21 wins and five losses. He feels his experience can get him the win and hand Eubank (15-0) the first loss of his professional career.

“I have plenty of experience. It’s my birthday next week and people think I’m 33 and I’m older but I feel young and fresh and that I can compete at a good level by honing in on my skills” he said.

Eubank has produced some strong performances during his unbeaten run, with a notable knockout in May with a notable knockout against Sean Dodd. He is continuing to show his growth and development of skills but this is going to be his toughest test yet.

Farrell has worked in high-pressure environments before, winning big world title fights against the likes of Ohara Davies has taught him valuable lessons that he will use to his advantage as he looks to end this unbeaten streak of Eubank’s.

“I’ve had more fights than him, done more rounds than him and had more big nights than him.”
When asked what will give him the edge over his opponent, he feels “he’s not fought anyone as tricky as me. I know he’s been the full 10 rounds before but it’s my job to push the pace, make him struggle, I don’t think anyone has done that yet.”

“There’s a lot of pressure heaped on him now. To stay unbeaten and keep his momentum going and it’s my job to keep the pressure on him.”

“I want to make him lose that 0.”

It is a star-studded night of boxing with the like of Liam Williams and former Team GB flyweight star Chloe Watson looking to showcase their skills before the main event.

“It’s a synonymous venue in the UK and even world boxing so it’s great to finally get to box there and even better to be top of the bill. For me it adds the extra incentive, also some pressure, but I have had nights like this before and I relish it and look to lap it all up” Farrell said.

A lot of the pre-fight conversation has been about Eubank, but this fight means a lot to Farrell too. “It is a great experience and great exposure. There have been millions of views on the show and it’s a great chance for me to put myself out there in the spotlight.”

“Beating a Eubank who is highly touted at the historic York Hall will put me right in the mix which I plan on taking with both hands” he said.

The fight may be taking place a long way from Farrell’s home city, but when you tune in you will still see a consortium of Scousers cheering on one of their own.

“I’ve got lots of fans coming down to watch me so it’s going to be a good fight. He’s a good lad but I am going to be victorious on the night and give those fans that are with me there and those back home the chance to celebrate.”

It is going to be a great night of high-level boxing with Farrell looking to take down Eubank and hand him his first loss in the main event. York Hall awaits this highly anticipated bout on Friday 25^th November, and it will be live on Channel 5.

PHILADELPHIA (November 17, 2022)– On Saturday night, December 10th, King’s Promotions will present a big night of boxing at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia.

In a featured contest, bantamweight, Jonathan Rodriguez will take part in a six-round bout against Nestor Robledo.

Rodriguez of Bethlehem, PA has a record of 11-1-1 with three knockouts. The 23 year-old is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision over Nestor Bravo (15-3-1) on September 23rd in Bethlehem, Pa.

Robledo of Georgetown, Texas is 9-13-2. The 28 year-old Robledo has wins over Edwin Campos Marquez (1-0) and Edgar Ortiz Jr. (8-2-2). Robledo has won two fights in a row, with the latest being a six-round unanimous decision over Hugo Alejandro Macial on July 23rd in Mexico.

In another six-round bout, undefeated welterweight Tahmir Smalls takes on Agustin Gerbaldo Kucharski.

Smalls, 23 of Philadelphia is 9-0 with six knockouts. Smalls is coming off a first round stoppage of Joel Guevara on August 28th in Camden, New Jersey.

Kucharski of Buenos Aires, Argentina is 8-5-1 with three knockouts. The 25 year-old has a win over Nicolas Ezequiel Herrera (4-0-1). Kucharski is coming off a loss to 2021 United States Olympian Tiger Johnson on May 21st in Las Vegas.

Julian Gonzalez (7-0-1, 7 KOs) of Reading, PA takes on Eric Manriquez (7-14-1, 3 KOs) of Houston in a super featherweight bout.

Also in a six-round bout, Rasheed Johnson (8-5, 3 KOs) of Philadelphia fights Antonio Wattell (3-11-3, 2 KOs) of Houston in a welterweight contest.

James Bernadin (8-0-1, 5 KOs) of Lancaster, PA takes on an opponent to be named in a six-round lightweight bout.

LAS VEGAS, NV (November 17, 2022) – Undefeated welterweight contender, Mekhrubon Sanginov (13-0-1, 10 KOs), ranked WBA #9, is nothing short of a modern-day superhero, let alone a fighter competing at the highest level in the sport of boxing.

Sanginov, nearly lost his life when he was stabbed in the chest, an incident that took place in his hometown of Dushanbe, Tajikistan. Sanginov was protecting another man from an intoxicated bully who was picking on an innocent bystander. 

In the midst of protecting the man, the assailant brandished a large knife and stabbed him multiple times, nearly puncturing his heart. Sanginov is lucky to be alive after such vicious attack.

“The attack happened very fast, but I knew what was right and I needed to protect an innocent person from this crazy man,” said Sanginov. “When I saw the bully picking on this helpless man, it made me sick. I can’t stand bullies, and this guy I was protecting desperately needed my help. People might think I am crazy, but I’m fine with what happened. This bully was drunk and was going to do some serious damage to this guy. I almost died, but it was for a good cause.”

Sanginov has now relocated to Las Vegas, where he is back training with Bones Adams. Sanginov feels like a man on a mission after leaving the mean streets of Tajikstan.

“I was almost murdered, so now I want to make my return to boxing count,” continued Sanginov. “My goal is to represent my country and fight for the underdog. I want to make everyone proud for my actions, at the same time, bring attention to my goal, which is becoming a world champion.”

(Nov. 16, 2022) — The upset-minded Ionut Baluta hopes to defy the odds again when he battles the unbeaten Liam Davies in the 12-round main event for the vacant European junior featherweight title Saturday at Telford International Centre in Telford, England.

In the 10-round co-feature, big-punching light heavyweight contender Anthony Yarde faces Stefani Koykov in a match that could have world title implications for the London native.

Davies-Baluta and Yarde-Koykov top a loaded bill streaming live and exclusively in the U.S. on ESPN+ starting at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT.

Davies (12-0, 5 KOs) is a former English bantamweight champion who captured the British junior featherweight strap in his last outing with a hard-fought decision over Marc Leach at Telford International Centre. He is a four-year pro who also holds a near-shutout win over Nicaragua’s Dixon Flores. Baluta (15-3, 3 KOs), a native of Romania who now trains in England, is no stranger to upsetting the apple cart. In 2020, he stunned former world champion TJ Doheny by decision and knocked out Irish Olympian Davey Oliver Joyce in consecutive bouts. Following a razor-thin decision loss to Michael Conlan last April, Baluta rebounded to upset Brad Foster in May for the WBC International title.

Yarde (22-2, 21 KOs), the WBO No. 1 light heavyweight contender, is in line for a shot at unified champion Artur Beterbiev in early 2023. He hopes to shake off the ring rust following a nearly yearlong layoff. In his last outing, he knocked out Lyndon Arthur in four rounds, avenging a December 2020 split decision defeat. Koykov (14-1, 12 KOs) has won 12 straight bouts since the lone blemish on his record.

In a six-round featured bout, undefeated David Stevens will fight Christopher Brooker in a six-round super middleweight bout.

Stevens of Reading, PA is 11-0 with eight knockouts. The 22 year-old Stevens is coming off a second round stoppage over Loris Barberio on July 23rd in Dallas, Texas.

Brooker of Philadelphia is 16-12 with six knockouts. The 31 year-old Brooker is a seven year professional who has shown a willingness to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. JOHN RYDER HAS revealed the horrors he experienced in continuing his attempt to become successful as a middleweight fighter before ultimately rejuvenating his career at super middleweight.

Ryder takes on Zach Parker for the WBO Interim world super middleweight title at The O2 on November 26 in a highly-anticipated domestic clash, live on BT Sport, where the winner will either fight Canelo Alvarez for the full title or be elevated to champion.

Currently a picture of health and happiness, Ryder is readying himself to go to war with the unbeaten Queensberry man Parker, but it was a different story down at middleweight, where the principal battle was against the scales.

It was in his 2015 British title challenge against Nick Blackwell that Ryder began to realise that toiling down to 160lbs was having a detrimental effect on his fistic fortunes.

“It just wasn’t there to happen for me anymore, I’d get to 11st 10lbs and then it was just pure dehydration,” explained Ryder to Dev Sahni in a compelling episode of the Unibet Lowdown. “I can’t sit in a sauna even fully hydrated, not my cup of tea, so it was just working hard to get weight off, skipping, running… Moving up to super middleweight was the best thing I’ve ever done.

“The Nick Blackwell fight was the first where I really struggled. I’d been in America and had a bit of jetlag and I probably wasn’t professional enough to say to Tony (trainer, Sims) about training a little bit later. I paid the price for it.”

Ryder went on to relay the incredible thoughts that ran through his head during another domestic collision, this time against Jack Arnfield in 2016.

“I had another crack at middleweight against Jack Arnfield and he just got the better of me. In that Arnfield fight I was thinking ‘please just put me out of my misery’. I wanted him to knock me out because there was no way I was going to quit.

“I wanted to be hit on the chin, put out of my misery and then look for something else to do. I just didn’t have the fight in me anymore.

“I trained like a beast and I always trained hard. I am always fit but getting down to that weight just took something out of me. It just wasn’t there and 24 hours wasn’t enough to replenish it and come again.

“People probably think I am a bit sadistic for saying all this, but it was tough. You’re in a fight and nothing is working for you, nothing is coming off and you are getting picked off. You think to yourself ‘another four rounds of this… I’m not going to quit, so please put me out of my misery’.

“The move up to 168lbs took the pressure off and I enjoyed camps not having to worry about that last bit. Before I was purely training to make weight, not even to get fit.”

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 – BOXXER’s Lauren Price has officially been handed her Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for Services to Boxing in an official royal ceremony at Windsor Castle today.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Gold Medalist was celebrated as part of the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s New Year’s Honours List.

Now a professional boxer, the undefeated Olympic hero was joined by her partner and fellow BOXXER star and 2020 Olympics bronze medal winner, Karriss Artingstall to receive her prestigious gong from His Majesty King Charles III.

It was the monarch’s first Investiture Ceremony since his Accession to the throne.

Middleweight Price, who was also a former kick-boxer and international footballer for her country Wales, has fought twice since turning professional in June earlier this year.

Price impressively stopped Timea Belik in front of a sold-out crowd at The O2 in October as part of the record-breaking first-ever all women’s card televised in the UK – viewed by an audience of over two million, making it the most-watched women’s sport event in Sky Sports’ history.

Aussie legend, Alex Volkanovski (25-1, fighting out of Windang, NSW) will attempt to make history yet again by becoming the first Australian to reach double champ status. Volk is set to take on UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev (23-1, fighting out of Makhachkala, Russia) who claimed an impressive submission win over Brazilian Charles Oliveira to gain the undisputed lightweight championship title only last month.

For the co-main event of the afternoon, top UFC featherweights Yair “El Pantera” Rodríguez and Josh Emmett will compete for the interim UFC featherweight title, with the winner taking on UFC featherweight champ, Volkanovski, at a later date. No.2 UFC featherweight, Rodriguez (14-3, 1 NC, fighting out of Chicago, IL) is coming off a victory over Brian Ortega at UFC Long Island this past July. The Mexican-born striker has just one loss in his past five fights. In another highlight for the Aussie fans, No.1 UFC middleweight and former champion, Robert “The Reaper” Whittaker (25-6-0, fighting out of Sydney Australia) will take on No.6 ranked middleweight,Paulo “The Eraser” Costa (14-2-0, fighting out of Contagem, Minas Gerais, Brazil) in the three round middleweight bout. The beloved Bobby Knuckles was originally due to face the Brazilian powerhouse in April 2021, however, Costa withdrew due to illness, leaving Whittaker to finally face Californian, Kelvin Gastelum. Whittaker has been on an absolute tear since his loss to Adesanya, keeping him at that No.1 spot and no doubt ready to put on another showstopper for the fans.

THE BIG BANG, Pierce O’Leary fights for the first of what he firmly believes will be many title belts when he goes for the coveted WBC International super lightweight title at The 02 on 26 November, live on BT Sport.

O’Leary takes on Emmanuel Mungandjela – known as the Lion – for the vacant title on a blockbuster card headlined by Zach Parker against John Ryder trading for the WBO Interim world super middleweight championship. O’Leary’s iBox Gym teammates Dennis McCann and Sam Noakes also feature, both challenging for Commonwealth titles. WBC Silver middleweight champion Hamzah Sheeraz is in action against River Wilson-Bent with the Commonwealth crown also at stake.

“I’m straight in for a big title,” said the 22-year-old Dubliner. “In my first fight for Frank Warren I was going to fight for the WBC Youth title but it was hard to get an opponent under 23 so I said to skip it and then go for the big one – and it’s only going to get bigger and bigger!”

O’Leary’s personal scouting mission of his Namibian opponent only amounted to a matter of seconds, but he will be aware that Mungandjela holds a record of 16-3-1 (7 KOs) and that he is on a 14-fight winning streak, with his three losses and a draw coming in the early stage of his career.

“I was given a film of one of my opponent’s fights to have a look at, but it went the distance, so I only watched 10 seconds of it and that was it, enough for me.

“At the end of the day, fighters bring different stuff on the night, so it is about being a champion, proving myself on the night and adapting.”

The Queensberry debut O’Leary referred to came against the confident Nicaraguan Robin Zamora, who was brutally poleaxed in the second round at the Copper Box on an occasion he relished after finally finding himself on the big stage.

“It was amazing, but I found him a bit tricky at the start. I knew it was eight rounds and I would catch him, as soon as his feet got slow and that would be it. I switched southpaw, started to adapt a bit better because I go southpaw in the gym against Henry Turner for the whole thing. It is my trick, I am like the matrix and I can do it all. It is just a matter of timing in the ring and I’ve got to be patient.

“He wanted to win and ruin my career. I wasn’t going to let that happen so I had to go in, suss him out for the first round and for the second round Al told me to put the gas on, so that is what I went out and done,” he recalled, before paying tribute to the army of fans who travelled over to support him in London in numbers that a local fighter would be proud of.

“Yeah, I’ve got a really big fanbase, an incredible one, and without them it is impossible. You hear them when you are walking out and it gives you a spur. If you weren’t excited before you are when you get boosted by them and I think I am here for them and here to put a big statement in.

“Without them, what is boxing? They are all friends, friends of friends and friends of family. Where I come from, if someone is doing good, one household getting behind you leads to another one and another one and they all come along at a certain stage. I will sell a lot of tickets for this fight.

“Boxing is huge in Ireland and it could even be the top one out of all sports. It has always been right up there, especially when the Olympics is going on. They love the amateurs, love it, but not me though as I wanted to get out of it!”

Should O’Leary, as he anticipates, end this year as the proud owner of a shiny green WBC belt, he is quite clear as to where he would like 2023 to take him. And that is homeward bound.

“It is going to be a massive 2023. I want to keep on pushing, defend it a couple of times and then I plan on getting a fight back home. We deserve a fight back home in Dublin for the fans because there are so many people who come over here and spend a fortune on tickets, flights, hotels and spending money.

“A fight back home is what we need. Maybe the 3 Arena, or if it is going to be a welcome home fight, perhaps something smaller, but the 3 Arena for a major title. It is easily done.”

NEW YORK (November 16, 2022) -This past Saturday night, three Split-T Management fighters picked up wins to remain undefeated.

In Las Vegas, heavyweight Antonio Mireles scored his sixth knockout in as many fights as he took out previously undefeated Eric Perry in the opening round of their scheduled six-round bout.

In the opening round, Mireles dropped Perry face-first from a hard combination, and the fight was stopped at 2:26.

Saturday in Cleveland, Khalil Coe stayed undefeated with a six-round unanimous decision over previously undefeated Bradley Olemda in a light heavyweight bout.

Coe dominated the action and in round five he dropped Olemeda with a left hook. Coe of Flemington, New Jersey won by scores of 60-53 on all cards and is now 4-0-1. Olemda of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico is 5-1.

New York, NY (November 15, 2022) – DiBella Entertainment has signed IBF super bantamweight world champion Cherneka “Sugar Neekz” Johnson to an exclusive promotional agreement.

Johnson (15-1, 6 KOs), of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, seized the IBF women’s world super bantamweight title by defeating Melissa Esquivel on April 20, in her hometown at the Melbourne Convention Centre. Born in Tauranga, New Zealand, Johnson is the second Maori ever to win a world boxing title.

In her last fight, Johnson made the first defense of her IBF belt against former world champion Susie Ramadan on the undercard of the Devin Haney-George Kambosos Jr. rematch, on October 16, at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. A clash of heads in the second round left a huge gash above Johnson’s left eye, which bled profusely throughout the remainder of the bout. In a dramatic and bloody affair, Johnson went on to win a unanimous decision victory.

Johnson previously captured the WBA Oceania bantamweight title in December 2017 and made one defense of that belt. Her only loss came to Shannon O’Connell via close, split decision last year, challenging for the WBA Gold bantamweight title. As an amateur, Johnson was a five-time Queensland State champion, three-time Australian National champion and three-time Golden Gloves champion. Outside of boxing, Johnson will soon appear in the popular Aussie reality television series, The Challenge.

NEWARK, ENGLAND (November 15, 2022) – WBO #6 welterweight contender, David Avanesyan (29-3-1, 17 KOs), is preparing for the most electrifying fight of his career, a 12-round Championship showdown with the current pound-for-pound king, Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29 KOs) on December 10 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Neb.
