WSOF Strips Rousimar Palhares of World Title and Suspends Him

LAS VEGAS (August 4, 2015) – World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) has stripped Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares of the franchise’s world welterweight title and placed him on immediate, indefinite suspension until all issues are resolved, following Palhares’ “WSOF 22” main event title defense against Jake Shields on Saturday, August 1.

“After taking the time to review the footage from Saturday’s bout between Rousimar Palhares and Jake Shields in its entirety, we decided that stripping Rousimar of his title and issuing him a suspension until this issue is resolved, was necessary,” said World Series of Fighting President, six-time world champion and two-time Hall of Famer Ray Sefo.

“As a fighter with over two decades of ring experience,” continued Sefo, “I am always going to be an advocate for other fighters and, in this case, I feel that World Series of Fighting must protect its athletes and rules of competition by imposing swift and firm disciplinary action to address what we saw as unfair play in the cage.”

The much-anticipated showdown between Palhares and Shields aired live on NBCSN as part of a five-bout telecast from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

In the middle of the second round, Palhares, after being mounted by Shields on the ground, suddenly placed his hands over Shields’ eyes and appeared to disrupt Shields’ vision.

In the third round, Palhares executed a kimura submission that prompted Shields to tap out nine times before Palhares freed Shields from the hold, as directed by referee Steve Mazzagatti.

“Because of specific instances in the past in which Rousimar had arguably held his submission holds longer than necessary in competition,” explained Sefo, “Steve Mazzagatti gave Rousimar clear verbal instructions in the dressing room, before the fight, about listening to and obeying the referee’s commands, including those about letting go of a submission hold when instructed to do so.”

As a result of what transpired in the cage between Palhares and Shields, the Nevada State Athletic Commission elected to withhold Palhares’ entire, contractual win bonus, pending a review of the bout.

PRELIMINARY PORTION OF ‘BELLATOR MMA: GUILLARD VS. GIRTZ’ FINALIZED WITH THE ADDITION OF FIVE PRELIMINARY BOUTS

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (August 3, 2015) – August 28th’s “Bellator 141: Guillard vs. Girtz” is now complete with the addition of four new bouts which will take place during the preliminary card at the beautiful Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif.

In a critical lightweight matchup, Brent Primus (5-0) will put his undefeated record on the line against the dangerous Derek “The Barbaric” Anderson (12-1, 1 NC). Also on the card, middleweights AJ “The Mercenary” Matthews (7-3) versus Emiliano “He-Man” Sordi (13-4), as well as light heavyweights Ray Sloan (8-0), who goes to battle with Luc Bondole (4-1), and the young featherweight A.J. McKee (1-0) returns to face James Barnes (4-0). Finally, a third women’s bout has also been added, with the inclusion of Ilima Macfalane (1-0) against Maria Rios (2-2) in flyweight action.

The newly announced contests will stream on Spike.com at 7:45 p.m. ET during the preliminary portion of “Bellator MMA: Guillard vs. Girtz,” which is followed by the main card, which airs live and free on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT.

Limited tickets for the event, which start at just $50, remain on sale now at Pechanga.com and the Pechanga Resort & Casino box office. Doors for the event open at 4 p.m. PT local time.

In the evening’s main event, Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (32-14-2, 2 NC) will face Brandon “Cold Roll” Girtz (11-4). The co-headliner will feature lightweight action that pits Saad Awad (18-6) against Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (13-6). Opening the main card, Lorenzo Hood (9-2) will make his Bellator MMA debut against Raphael Butler (9-1-1).

San Diego’s Anderson will look to parlay his impressive technical knockout of Danny Navarro at Bellator 132 when he steps into the Bellator MMA cage for the second time in 2015. A product of Team Xplode MMA, the man fans describe as “The Barbaric” will be seeking his 12th finish in 14 tries.

Since joining the Bellator MMA fray in 2013, Primus has been on a tear, ripping through all three opponents with first-round finishes. Now, the 30-year-old Portland, Ore., native will face the stiffest test of his young career when he goes up against Anderson. Will he manage to keep his undefeated, first-round finish streak alive?

Known by most mixed martial arts fans as one of top up-and-coming 185-pound fighters on the Bellator MMA roster, Matthews emphatically solidified his contender role in the division with his show-stopping knockout of Kyle Bolt at Bellator 131 this past November. Known as “The Mercenary,” the Blackline MMA product and Strikeforce veteran will look to continue his rise to the top of the middleweight heap when he returns to action on Aug. 28.

Standing opposite of Matthews will be Sordi, who burst on the Bellator MMA scene with a 58-second submission of former UFC fighter Bubba McDaniel. The 24-year-old Argentinian has not tasted defeat since 2012 and has earned all 13 of his professional victories before reaching the judges’ scorecards.

Undefeated in eight fights, Sloan has entered Bellator MMA impressively, winning his first two tilts. The Oceanside, Calif., native trains out of Excel Jiu-Jitsu and has utilized the discipline to defeat seven out of eight opponents via submission.

Bondole is a highly regarded prospect, fighting out of Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, Calif., whos last outing resulted in a draw against Chris Hererra. Now, he will look to secure a win over Sloan on his own terms, and not let the judges have a say.

The son of respected MMA fighter Antonio McKee, “The Mercenary” will look to continue to pave his own way through the sport. A.J. shined in his first outing, securing a first round rear-naked choke over Marcos Bonilla. He now faces a fellow Angelino in Barnes, who has been tearing up the Gladiator Challenge circuit, going 4-0 with two KO’s and two submissions, all taking place in the first round.

Best known for her viral performance in her professional MMA debut, Macfarlane will now make her first appearance for Bellator MMA when she faces Maria Rios.

Major Overall will face Kotetsu Boku in an exciting featherweight bout while Singapore’s MMA darling Angela Lee will meet Russian kickboxer Elena Pashnina in a female atomweight bout.

The main event of ONE: DYNASTY OF CHAMPIONS (SHANGHAI) features a middleweight title bout between ONE Middleweight World Champion Igor “Lionheart” Svirid and the challenger Vitaly Bigdash. ONE: DYNASTY OF CHAMPIONS (SHANGHAI) is set to light up the city with an explosive fight card that fans will not want to miss.

For ONE: DYNASTY OF CHAMPIONS (SHANGHAI) ticketing enquiries and reservations, email rsvp@onefc.com.

CEO of ONE Championship™, Victor Cui, stated, “We are excited to make our mark in Shanghai this September as we bring the best local and international fighters once again to mainland China. This card is headlined by a ONE Middleweight World Championship title bout and it will be very exciting to see our Kazakhstani world champion defend his title. We also have a roster of the best international fighters showcasing their talents in the ONE cage such as Roger Huerta, Dae Hwan Kim, and Kotetsu Boku. Also, our female MMA warriors will show combat sport fans around the world what women can do inside the cage. Local flyweights will also be competing to be the best and the chance to be the winner of our ONE Shanghai Flyweight Tournament.”

Roger “El Matador” Huerta returns to the ONE cage a year after winning his fight against Christian Holley last August 2014. Huerta has been in the MMA game for more than a decade and has a wealth of experience on his resume. With a solid background in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Huerta is one of the best lightweights in the world and is looking to outdo Japanese stalwart Koji Ando who is fresh off challenging division leader Shinya Aoki for the title.

Koji Ando is one of Japan’s fiercest competitors, having been a mixed martial artist since 2008. The Japanese fighter, who recently faced Lightweight King Shinya Aoki, is never in a boring fight and always remains a threat no matter the opponent. With an array of diverse striking skills coupled with solid submission grappling credentials, Ando is ready to claim victory against Roger Huerta.

Dae Hwan Kim challenged for the ONE Bantamweight World Championship in his last fight, but came up short against reigning champion Bibiano Fernandes. Despite the setback, Kim gave the champ all he could handle and delighted fans with his fast-paced, high volume attack. Kim’s striking prowess is virtually unmatched in the division, and it will be interesting to see how effective he’ll be against fellow striker, Koetsu Okazaki.

Koetsu Okazaki embodies what being a Japanese mixed martial artist is all about. He has the heart, will and technical ability to give opponents a rough time in the cage, but also possesses the tenacity to overcome obstacles and claim victory. Okazaki has never been knocked out or stopped with strikes due to his excellent ability to take a punch, but also doesn’t mind trading blows in order to unleash his own combinations. He is prepared to show the world that he can beat the highly regarded Dae Hwan Kim.

In a featherweight bout, Singapore-based American fighter Major Overall is looking to impress the Chinese crowd with his exciting, all-action style in the ONE cage. Overall has a highlight reel of stoppages in his six victories as a mixed martial artist and has built a reputation as one of the most dangerous and exciting fighters in the division. He looks to continue his dominance with a win over perennial competitor Kotetsu Boku.

Kotetsu “No Face” Boku, although originally from South Korea, is a Japanese MMA legend and former champion. With more than 30 professional fights on his resume, Boku has the experience of a seasoned veteran and has seen it all inside the cage. He gets to showcase his dynamite fists once again inside the ONE cage as he takes on Major Overall in an explosive clash of featherweights.

Russian kickboxer Elena Pashnina is based in Chengdu, China and holds a black belt in Sanda. Pashnina boasts well-rounded stand up skills, incorporating wrestling and various mixed martial arts components into her solid striking game. The young 20-year-old is fresh off her first test inside the ONE cage last July against Jenny Huang. This time Pashnina takes on Singapore’s MMA darling, Angela Lee.

Angela “Unstoppable” Lee’s family is originally from Singapore but she has lived and trained mixed martial arts in Waipahu, Hawaii for most of her life. At just 19 years of age, Lee is one of the most promising young fighters on ONE Championship’s growing roster. She scored an impressive victory over Aya Saber in her ONE Championship debut last May, submitting her opponent in the first round with an Armbar. Lee looks to impress fans once again as she battles Elena Pashnina.

ICYMI: Lane-Felix II just two weeks away

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (July 31st, 2015) — They’ve waited patiently for this moment, for a chance to settle the score for what we can only assume is the second, and final, time.

They’ve chosen their words carefully, each predicting a win without fanning the flames in advance of what might be this year’s most highly anticipated rematch.

Two weeks from today, Luis Felix and Julian Lane face off again in the five-round main event of “CES MMA XXX,” live on AXS TV, as Lane attempts to defend the promotion’s lightweight title for the second time since he won the belt by beating Felix on national television in August of 2014.

CES MMA is celebrating its 30th show in style with a stacked card featuring 11 bouts, among them the return of regional standouts Chip Pollard, Matthew Bessette and Dinis Paiva, plus the professional debut of Gary Balletto Jr., the son of famed boxer Gary “Tiger” Balletto.

Tickets are priced at $40.00, $55.00, $100.00 and $125.00 and available for purchase online at www.cesmma.com or www.twinriver.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

Lane (9-3, 1 KO) enters his second title defense brimming with confidence, convinced he’s already faced the best of what Felix (13-8, 5 KOs) has to offer, whether standing up or on the canvas. Felix, the hometown favorite who appeared to be in control the first time until an overhand right changed the course of the fight, has taken the high road, focusing instead on reaffirming his place among the elite in the 155-pound division.

“My goal this fight is to go out there and prove [Julian and I] are on two different levels,” Felix said. “I’m out there to prove I’m the best lightweight in the northeast.”

“All I have to do is tap him on the chin and it’s over,” countered Lane, who clubbed Felix with a hard right in their first fight before choking him out in the third round. “I’m going to go in there and knock him out.”

Felix, coincidentally, is the only fighter on the card who also appeared on CES MMA’s first show in September of 2010. Twenty-nine events later, he’s back at Twin River as the headliner of a dynamic card featuring many old favorites mixed with a handful of new faces.

Among the returning stars is Bessette (15-6, 4 KOs), the Hartford, Conn., featherweight and Bellator vet who made his CES MMA debut in June with a knockout win over Khama Worthy. Two weeks from now, he faces Canadian Lenny Wheeler (8-3-1, 5 KOs) on the main card.

Also on the main card, red-hot East Providence, R.I., bantamweight Dinis Paiva Jr. (7-5, 4 KOs) faces Chino Duran (8-8, 4 KOs) of Homestead, Fla. The resurgent Paiva, now ranked No. 1 in his weight class in the northeast, has won four consecutive bouts – all in the opening round – including three by knockout.

Rounding out the televised portion of the card, light heavyweight Pat Walsh (5-2, 2 KOs) of East Bridgewater, Mass., faces Jesse McElligot (5-2, 2 KOs) of West Roxbury, Mass.; Plymouth, Mass., welterweight Chip Pollard (9-8, 4 KOs) battles Dan Lauzon (17-5, 9 KOs) of Bridgewater, Mass.; lightweight Leon Davis (6-3, 1 KO) of Ludlow, Mass., faces Boston’s Andres Jeudi (7-4, 3 KOs); and The Ultimate Fighter alum Peggy Morgan (3-3) of Manchester, N.H., makes her CES MMA debut in a bantamweight bout against Jessica Miele (4-1) of Waterbury, Conn.

The preliminary card is headlined by Balletto Jr., the Cranston, R.I., welterweight who debuts against fellow newcomer Anthony Giacchina of Selden, N.Y. Bantamweight Rico DiSciullo (4-0-1, 1 KO) of Peabody, Mass., faces Jake Constant (6-7-1, 2 KOs) of Springfield, Ill.; Manny Bermudez (1-0, 1 KO) of Abington, Mass., battles featherweight Mak Kelleher (0-1) of Centereach, N.Y.; and bantamweights Jacob Smith of Russell, Mass., and Chris Caterino of Nashua, N.H., face one another in their pro debuts.

LAS VEGAS (July 30, 2015) –World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) will return to Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. for the second time this year with another star-studded, world-class Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) mega-event, headlined by a welterweight (170 pounds) showdown between rival superstars Jon Fitch and Yushin “Thunder” Okami, on Saturday, Oct. 17, live on NBCSN.

Priced from $39.99, tickets for “WSOF 24: Fitch vs. Okami” go on sale on tomorrow, Friday, July 31 at 10 a.m. ET at Ticketmaster.com and WSOF.com.

“We are excited to return to Foxwoods Resort Casino and the state of Connecticut, where we showcased our brand of world championship MMA action in front of a highly passionate audience earlier this year,” said WSOF President Ray Sefo.

“Beginning with Jon Fitch and Yushin Okami, two of the best 170-pound athletes in our entire sport,” continued Sefo, “we are assembling another card loaded with some of the top superstars and emerging stars in MMA, and we look forward to giving fans another memorable night of fights.”

In the co-main event, WSOF World Heavyweight Champion Blagoy Ivanov will put his coveted title on the line for the first time when he squares off with seasoned contender Derek “Caveman” Mehmen.

In other action on the live NBCSN telecast, superstars Vinny Magalhaes and Matt “The Hammer” Hamill will make their respective WSOF debuts against each other in a light heavyweight (205 pounds) contest.

Also returning to the cage will be local favorite “Notorious” Nick Newell, who will take on an opponent to be named soon.

Jon Fitch vs. Yushin Okami

Both Fitch (26-7-1, 1 NC) of Las Vegas, Nev. and Okami (30-9) of Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan will look to return to the win column after their suffering defeats in their respective last starts, which were both world championship title bouts.

During his 12-year professional career, the 6-foot, 37-year-old Fitch, a former captain of world renowned fight team AKA and NCAA Division I wrestler for Purdue University, has submitted or scored TKO’s on a long list of rival superstars, including Roan Carneiro, Josh Burkman and Thiago Alves, and has earned decision wins over Diego Sanchez, Erick Silva and Ben Saunders.

Also a 12-year veteran of the sport, the 6-foot-2, 34- year-old Okami has earned 50 percent of his wins by way of (T)KO or submission, and boasts victories over a host of fellow marquee competitors, including Hector Lombard, Nate Marquardt, Mark Munoz and Alan Belcher. In his WSOF debut on March 29, Okami notched a spectacular, second round (4:46) submission (arm-triangle choke) of Svetlozar Savov.

Blagoy Ivanov vs. Derek Mehmen

Ivanov (12-1) of Sofia, Bulgaria made history on June 5, 2015 when the 5-foot-11, 28-year-old pulled off a stunning, third round (1:17) submission (guillotine choke) of Smealinho Rama to become the second WSOF world heavyweight champion ever.

A judo black belt and 2008 Combat Sambo world champion, Ivanov defeated all-time great Fedor Emelianenko in the semi-final stage of the championship tournament.

Mehmen (19-6) of Coconut Creek, Fla. via Cedar Rapids, Iowa, is a 6-foot-4, 30-year-old member of American Top Team. The heavy-handed, 9-year veteran of the sport has earned 11 of his 19 professional career wins by way of (T)KO.

Mehmen earned the 2013 “KO Punch of the Year,” awarded by AXS TV’s Inside MMA program, for his devastating, second round (2:40) finish of Rolles Gracie, Jr. at WSOF 5 on Sept. 14, 2013.

Vinny Magalhaes vs. Matt Hamill

A former world MMA champion and multiple-time Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion, Magalhaes (12-7, 1 NC) of Las Vegas, Nev. will look to notch his third consecutive victory during his first start in the WSOF decagon cage and first appearance of 2015.

In his last effort, the 6-foot-3, 31-year-old native of Brazil submitted (guillotine choke) Jason Brilz in the fourth round (:36) of their matchup on Sept. 26, 2014.

A decade long veteran of MMA, Hamill of Loveland, Ohio remains one of the most inspirational athletes in all of MMA. Deaf since birth, Hamill has persevered time and time again, earning his way to three NCAA Division III wrestling national titles before dedicating himself to MMA.

The subject of a 2010 biographical film entitled “The Hammer,” the 6-foot-2, 38-year-old owns notable wins over Tito Ortiz, Tim Boetsch, Keith Jardine and Mark Munoz, among others, and also boasts past clashes with Michael Bisping, Rich Franklin, Alexander Gustafsson, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Jon Jones.

After five years in the Congo, Justin Wren returns to MMA on August 28 with an inspirational story to share

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 30, 2015) – Justin Wren walked away from a promising MMA career exactly 5 years and 12 days ago. Today, “The Big Pygmy Viking” announces his return to the sport, which will take place on the Spike-televised portion of the “Bellator 141: Guillard vs. Girtz” card on August 28, where he takes on Josh “The Hammer” Burns at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif.

Tickets for “Bellator 141: Guillard vs. Girtz,” which start at just $50, are on sale now at Bellator.com, Pechanga.com and the Pechanga Resort & Casino box office. Doors for the event open at 4 p.m. PT local time.

The card airs live and free on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, with several preliminary bouts airing on Spike.com beginning at 7:45 p.m. ET. Additional preliminary bouts will be announced shortly.

Wren’s impressive story is hard to tell in a couple paragraphs, which is why he will be telling it in its entirety in an upcoming book titled “Fight for the Forgotten: How a Mixed Martial Artist Stopped Fighting for Himself, and Started Fighting for Others,” that will be on sale in bookstores everywhere September 15.

The two-time National High School Wrestling Champion transitioned from the wrestling mats to MMA, and earned a spot on Season 10 of “The Ultimate Fighter,” racking up an impressive 10-2 professional record. In 2010, Wren would confront his toughest opponent: addiction.

With an opportunity to continue fighting on the table, Wren left the sport and began his recovery process. A chance meeting with a friend led Wren on a trip to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where he came across and developed a deep connection with the Mbuti Pygmies, many of whom were enslaved, living on only the scraps the slave masters would pay them with. Wren found his calling there and wanted to do everything in his power to help the Pygmies. With multiple visits to the Congo, including a stint that lasted a year, Wren started a foundation called “Fight for the Forgotten.” Through his efforts, Wren and his staff of 17 have systematically bought the land of the slave owners, and have thus far legally given 2,740 acres of rainforest to the Pygmies, effectively freeing them from slavery.

Partnering with other groups like Shalom University and joining forces with Water4.org, Wren and his charity are responsible for drilling 26 water wells to help provide both the Pygmies and the former slave masters with clean water, and have plans to drill hundreds more. In addition, the team has begun a sustainable farming project to benefit and provide food to both the Pygmies and non-Pygmies of the community.

Having finally defeated his addiction, Wren now returns to MMA where he can fight with a clear mind for the first time in his professional career. If victorious, Wren will be donating his entire win bonus directly to his Pygmy family to continue his mission of creating land, water and food initiatives that will build better lives for the people of the Congo.

Wren and his opponent will join the Spike-televised card, which features Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (32-14-2, 2 NC) versus Brandon “Cold Roll” Girtz (11-4) in the main event of the evening. In the co-headlining role, Saad Awad (18-6) takes on Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (13-6) and an additional heavyweight attraction with Lorenzo Hood (9-2) making his Bellator MMA debut against Raphael Butler (9-1-1).

“Bellator 141: Guillard vs. Girtz” – Friday, August 28, Pechanga Resort & Casino

FOUR PRELIMINARY BOUTS ADDED TO ‘BELLATOR 141: GUILLARD VS. GIRTZ’

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 22, 2015) – The preliminary portion of the “Bellator 141: Guillard vs. Girtz” card is beginning to take shape with the addition of four fresh bouts which will stream live on Spike.com from the beautiful Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif.

At the forefront of the newly signed fights is a pair of women’s featherweight scraps with Marloes “Rumina” Coenen (22-6) vs. Arlene “Angerfist” Blencowe (6-4) and Adrienna “AJ” Jenkins (18-6) vs. Lissette Neri (6-2), as well as welterweight action with Curtis Millender (7-2) facing Steven “Stryker” Ciacco (4-3) and Johnny “The Tattooed Terror” Cisneros (8-4) battling Gabriel “Biel” Miglioli (9-7).

The contests will stream on Spike.com at 7 p.m. ET during the preliminary card of “Bellator 141: Guillard vs. Girtz,” which is followed by the main card, airing live and free on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. Additional bouts will be announced shortly.

Tickets for the event, which start at just $50, are on sale now at Bellator.com, Pechanga.com and the Pechanga Resort & Casino box office. Doors for the event open at 4 p.m. PT local time, and the first contest takes place one hour later.

In the evening’s main event, Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (32-14-2, 2 NC) will face Brandon “Cold Roll” Girtz (11-4). The co-headliner will feature lightweight action when Saad Awad (18-6) takes on Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (13-6). Opening the main card, Lorenzo Hood (9-2) will make his Bellator MMA debut against Raphael Butler (9-1-1).

Coenen will be returning to the Bellator MMA cage on the heels of third round rear-naked choke finish of Annalisa Bucci at Bellator 130. “Rumina” has been competing professionally since the year 2000 in promotions the likes of Strikeforce, Smackgirl, and Invicta Fighting Championships, winning a title under Bellator President Scott Coker in the process. The Dutch competitor wants nothing more than to eventually add a Bellator belt to her mantel in the near future.

Standing in the way will be former World Boxing Federation titlist Arlene Blencowe, who is also riding high after an impressive stoppage of “AJ” Jenkins at Bellator 137. Popularly known as “Angerfist,” the 32-year-old Australian has not suffered defeat since 2013 and has avoided the judges’ scorecards in four of her six professional victories. This tilt has 145-pound title implications written all over it.

In the second women’s featherweight matchup on the card, the aforementioned “A.J.” Jenkins will attempt to get back in the win column when she faces a surging Lissette Neri, who has started off her 2015 with an undefeated record.

After prominent roles on the main card of both Bellator 134 and Bellator 137, Millender will look to get back to his winning ways when he faces Jackson on August 28. “Curtious” hails from San Bernardino, Calif., and has an unquestionable amount of talent and size at his disposal and will play the role of spoiler when his “Bellator MMA: Guillard vs. Girtz” opponent makes his debut.

With the nickname “Stryker,” it goes without saying that Steven Ciaccio has an affinity for helping his opponents find the canvas. The Irvine, Calif., native has slept his foe in three out of four wins and will be taking a significant step up in competition when he makes his Bellator MMA debut on Aug. 28.

The fourth preliminary bout will take place in the welterweight division, when Johnny Cisneros meets Gabriel Miglioli. “The Tattooed Terror” will be competing for the third time under the Bellator MMA umbrella and will likely have plenty of hometown support from his fellow citizens in Laguna Nigel, Calif. Hailing from Brazil, Miglioli has competed against the likes of Al Iaquinta and Rafael dos Anjos. “Biel” will be fighting for the second time in 2015.

UFC® FLYWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION DEMETRIOUS JOHNSON MEETS RIVAL JOHN DODSON IN HIGHLY ANTICIPATED REMATCH

ufc_title-belt_206
Las Vegas – UFC flyweight champion and No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter Demetrious Johnson collides with rival John Dodson in a highly anticipated rematch Saturday, September 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Johnson narrowly defeated Dodson in their first bout in 2013, with the champion surviving several knockdowns from the heavy-handed New Mexico native. Two years later, the rivalry has grown bitter, and the pair of flyweight standouts will look to settle the score once and for all at UFC® 191: JOHNSON vs. DODSON 2.

Since his first showdown with Dodson, Johnson (21-2-1, fighting out of Parkland, Wash.) has gone on to defend his belt five more times, scoring impressive finishes in four of those contests. He now looks for a seventh consecutive successful title defense which would put him in a tie for third place on the all-time list behind only Anderson Silva (10) and Georges St-Pierre (9).

Meanwhile, Dodson (18-6, fighting out of Albuquerque, N.M.) is riding a three-fight winning streak with two finishes and believes that the next knockdown he scores over the champion will be the last.

Also, top-ranked light heavyweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (19-4, fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla.) returns to the Octagon for the first time since his title fight with Daniel Cormier and meets Polish striker, No. 12 Jan Blachowicz (18-4, fighting out of Poznan, Poland).

Plus, No. 8 women’s strawweight Paige VanZant (5-1, fighting out of Sacramento, Calif.) looks to continue her ascent up the UFC’s newest division when she meets Australia’s Alex Chambers (4-2, fighting out of Sydney, Australia). VanZant, who is 2-0 inside the Octagon, has quickly become one of the faces of the division thanks to thrilling victories over Kailin Curran and Felice Herrig. Chambers, a cast member on season 20 of The Ultimate Fighter, is coming off a third-round submission of Curran earlier this year. She looks to end the meteoric rise of VanZant when the two collide in Las Vegas.

Also announced for UFC 191: No. 11 bantamweight Francisco Rivera (11-4, fighting out of Buena Park, Calif.) welcomes proven finisher John Lineker (25-7, fighting out of Paranagua, Parana Brazil) to the 135-pound division.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 24, 2015) – Bellator MMA is pleased to announce the signing of Keri Anne Taylor-Melendez to an exclusive, multi-fight deal. The new preliminary contests include light heavyweights (205 pounds) Jake “The Honey Bear” Heun (7-4) vs. Davin “Relentless” Clark (5-2-2), flyweights (125 pounds) Donavon Frelow (4-0) vs. Carlos Garcia (0-0), a 140-pound catchweight contest with Jimmy “Rabbit” Jones (4-3) vs. Marco Simmons (0-0), light heavyweights Cory Hendricks (2-0) vs. Julio Hinojosa (3-1) and lightweights (155 pounds) Gil Guardado (3-1) vs. Pete Martin (5-3)

Fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla., the 27-year-old Heun is a two-time veteran of WSOF action who is sporting an overall record of 1-1 in the promotion. Four of his seven career victories have come by way of (T)KO and one by way of submission. He is looking to rebound from a second round (4:11) submission (arm-triangle choke) defeat at the hands of Clifford Starks.

Heun faces Clark, a 33-year-old American Kickboxing Academy product from San Jose, Calif., who has been competing professionally since 2007. While he suffered an October loss to fellow veteran Joe Vedepo, Clark’s previous two appearances saw him earn a pair of first-round finishes.

Las Vegas’ Frelow was originally expected to compete on the evening’s main card for the inaugural World Series of Fighting flyweight title. However, fellow undefeated contender Magomed Bibulatov suffered an injury in training and was forced to withdraw from the contest. Frelow elected to stay busy rather than wait on a title fight and now meets fellow Las Vegas resident Garcia, an Xtreme Couture fighter making his professional debut.

Additional preliminary bouts see some of Las Vegas’ top prospects enter the WSOF cage, as Xtreme Couture’s Jones meets Wand Fight Team’s Simmons, and Xtreme Couture’s Guardado faces Wand Fight Teams’ Martin.

Meanwhile, Syndicate MMA’s Hendricks welcomes Hinojosa, of El Paso, Texas, to the World Series of Fighting decagon.

Priced from $29.99, tickets for “WSOF 22: Palhares vs. Shields” are on sale at Ticketmaster.com and WSOF.com.

Doors at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will open at 4 p.m. PT, and the first preliminary card bout will begin at 5 p.m. PT.

LORENZO HOOD SET FOR PROMOTIONAL DEBUT AGAINST RAPHAEL BUTLER DURING MAIN CARD OF ‘BELLATOR: GUILLARD VS. GIRTZ’ ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 28 AT PECHANGA RESORT & CASINO

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 22, 2015) – The highly anticipated promotional debut of Lorenzo “The Samoan Silverback” Hood (9-2) will come on the main card of “Bellator MMA: Guillard vs. Girtz” against Raphael “The Silencer” Butler (9-1-1) on Friday, Aug. 28 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif.

The contest will serve as the opening main card bout of “Bellator MMA: Guillard vs. Girtz,” which airs live and free on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, with preliminary bouts streaming on Spike.com at 7 p.m. ET. Additional bouts will be announced shortly.

Tickets for the event, which start at just $50, are on sale now at Pechanga.com and the Pechanga Resort & Casino box office. Doors for the event open at 4 p.m. PT local time, and the first contest takes place one hour later.

In the evening’s main event, Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (32-14-2, 2 NC) will face Brandon “Cold Roll” Girtz (11-4). The co-headliner will feature lightweight action when Saad Awad (18-6) takes Patricky “Pitbull” Freire (13-6).

One of the most sought-after heavyweight prospects in MMA, the 6-foot-3 Hood has been competing professionally since 2009 and has never allowed a fight to go past the first round. Of his nine career victories, each and every one has come by knockout. Hood has fought throughout the U.S. while competing on the regional circuit, earning himself the distinction of being one of the top heavyweight prospects in the sport.

“The Silencer” started his combat sports career as a professional boxer, where he racked up 28 knockouts in his 35 total victories, and still trains with high caliber strikers including Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder. Butler now makes his seventh appearance under the Bellator MMA banner, his first since finishing Josh Diekmann at “Bellator MMA: British Invasion” this past February. Much like Hood, the Minnesota native has never allowed a match-up to reach the judges’ scorecards, accruing six knockouts and three submissions along the way.
With all the hype surrounding the debut of Hood, Butler will look to play the role of spoiler when he enters the Bellator MMA cage for second time in 2015.
