‘THE SPARTAN’ CLAIMS THE GOLD — OFFICIAL ‘BELLATOR MMA: LIMA VS. KORESHKOV’ RESULTS

UNCASVILLE, CONN. (July 17, 2015) – After 15 months of waiting, fans in attendance for “Bellator MMA: Lima vs. Koreshkov” at the Mohegan Sun Arena and those watching live on Spike were treated to a championship clash between Douglas “The Phenom” Lima (26-6) and Andrey “The Spartan” Koreshkov (18-1) for the Bellator MMA Welterweight Title.

After five grueling rounds, the judges appointed by the Mohegan Tribe Athletic Commission unanimously awarded the 170-pound belt to the challenger [48-47, 50-45, 50-45].

Lima was unable to fend off the relentless takedown attempts of “The Spartan,” who spent a good duration of the fight on his back. “The Phenom” came on strong with about 10 seconds remaining in the fight, but it was too little, too late. The 24-year-old Russian left Connecticut with his first victory in a year and a championship belt tightly wrapped around his waist.

“It’s not my belt it’s our belt. I did it for my friends, family and fans,” Koreshkov said. “I respect all fighters. I wish my next competitor luck in fighting against me.

Paul Daley Stops Dennis Olson, Calls Out Josh Koscheck

In Friday’s co-main event, Paul “Semtex” Daley (36-13-2) exploded on Dennis Olson (14-8), unleashing an arsenal of punches that forced referee Dan Miragliotta to stop the contest at 1:12 of round two.

Daley has now won two straight since returning to Bellator MMA after a nearly three-year hiatus. The 32-year-old Englishman fended off takedowns and bided his time before pummeling Olson with shots that crumpled the New Hampshire native into a heap on the mat.

After the bout, “Semtex” had a few choice words for Bellator MMA’s newest signee Josh Koscheck, who sat cageside after cornering Honeycutt earlier in the night.

“I’m a perfectionist. When anybody fights me they always fight their best. I prepared for a tough fight, I would’ve liked to take him out the first round, but I felt his strength,” Daley said. “I caught a kick and I was pretty comfortable in his guard even though I was caught in a couple of combinations.”

“Josh Koscheck and I are going to get our fight soon,” Daley added. “I don’t like him and we’re going to settle it in this Bellator cage.”

“Irish” Crushes “The Leprechaun”

“Irish” Brennan Ward (11-3) knocked out Roger “The Leprechaun” Carroll (16-12) with a vicious right hand at 2:06 of the first round. Ward was supposed to have fought Gavin Sterritt, but after the Wolfslair product withdrew from the fight, and was released from the promotion, Carroll stepped in on short notice.

Carroll was looking to fight “Irish” on the mat, showcasing his black belt in jiu-jitsu, but Ward smartly kept the bout upright and eventually landed one of his patented strikes that ended the night for “The Leprechaun.”

After the scrap, Ward made it clear that his move to welterweight is for the foreseeable future.

“Every time I fight here, I do it for the fans, these fans have my back. I have the best fans in the world,” Ward said. “I knew it was a matter of time before he went down. It was a pretty vicious shot, but I can’t help but throw bombs.

“You know I’ll take anyone. This division is tough, it’s really thick,” Ward continued. “I think I’m one of the top guys in my division. You don’t want to fight me, especially at Mohegan Sun.”

“The Cutt” Leads to No Contest Against Paul Bradley

What was shaping up to be a great welterweight bout between Chris Honeycutt (6-0, 1 NC) and Paul Bradley (22-6, 1 NC) ended in a no-contest following an accidental clash of heads at 2:47 of round two.

Both wrestlers were trading takedown attempts and shots on the feet, but after Honeycutt accidentally head butted Bradley, which opened a cut near the eye of the San Diego native, the ringside physician instructed referee John McCarthy to call a stop to the bout.

The inconclusive ending definitely created a sense of unfinished business between the two welterweight grapplers. It’s worth noting, until “Bellator MMA: Lima vs. Koreshkov,” neither fighter had been involved in a no contest.

“Venom” Bites “Bad News” Bears

In the opening main card bout of the evening, Michael “Venom” Page (8-0) continued his winning ways against Rudy “Bad News” Bears (16-14), stopping his foe with a walk off punch at 1:05 of the opening frame.

MVP has been on the shelf since October of last year, but the layoff didn’t slow down the Brit in the slightest, as he avoided everything Bears had to offer and then countered with vicious precision. The 28-year-old has now finished seven of his eight opponents.

After the fight, “Venom” made it clear that he is back with a vengeance.

“The one and only MVP is back,” Page said. “This is what I do all day, I’ve been training for this. I’m a precision fighter and I don’t just throw punches. I think everyone saw exactly what kind of statement I made tonight.”

Preliminary Results:

Dean Hancock (2-0) viciously finished Alex Dunworth (2-2) with unabated strikes at 2:14 of round two. It wasn’t the referee that called a stop to the action, but Dunworth’s corner man Joe Lauzon who threw in the towel for his fighter.

The sole women’s fight on the Bellator 140 card did not disappoint, as Kaline Medeiros (5-4) wrenched the arm of Sarah Payant (1-1) with a kimura, forcing the Massachusetts native to tap out at 3:24 of the opening frame.

Continuing the trend of submission finishes on the preliminary portion of the card, Ryan Quinn (11-5) finished Waylon Lowe (15-7) via guillotine choke at 2:47 of round two. With the win, the Connecticut native has now won four of his last five bouts.

In a rematch that was seven months in the making, Remo Cardarelli (5-2) defeated Billy Giovanella (8-4) via unanimous decision [30-27, 29-28, 29-28]. The pair of bantamweights have now traded wins in their first two meetings.

Kin Moy (7-2) came from behind to defeat Blair Tugman (7-6) via triangle choke submission at 3:01 of round three. Tugman was taking the fight to his opponent on the feet and mat, but out of nowhere, Moy secured the slick maneuver and took home his seventh professional win.

In the lone heavyweight tilt of the evening, Parker Porter (6-4) finished Eric Bedard (6-6) via Americana submission at 2:51 of round two. The victory is Porter’s first under the Bellator MMA umbrella.

In the opening bout of the evening, Ilya Kotau (1-0) made quick work of Nicolas Sergiacomi (1-1), defeating his fellow welterweight via rear-naked choke at 2:17 of round one.

M-1 Global President Vadim Finkelchtein: “Fedor fighting again will be a great gift to MMA fans

Were you surprised when you heard about Fedor returning to professional fighting?

VF: “Well, yes, I was surprised. I lost hope for his comeback after one or two years of negotiations. I just couldn’t do it. One time he asked me not to talk about this anymore. But about a week ago he told me that he might make a comeback. I couldn’t believe what I heard. I was happy to hear that, but the real decision he made only a couple of days ago.”

Will Fedor continue his work in Russian MMA Union?

VF: “Yes, I’m sure that fighting wouldn’t become a distraction from his post of President of MMA Federation.”

What did Fedor Emelianenko tell you about his possible match-ups and opponents?

VF: “There’s no definite information yet. The only thing he told me is that he needed to prepare well enough to become as dangerous as he used be. Mentally, he is ready to fight; his attitude about fighting is great. I think he has good chance to show the best version of himself.
What do you think about his next fight? When will we see it?

VF: “I can’t tell you exactly right now. I would like him to make his first fight in Russia, of course, but this is all up to him, after all. But it would be great if first he makes it for his Russian fans. They would be happy.”

Will you make the third M-1 Global event with Fedor as the headliner?

VF: “I’d like that, of course. It would be awesome to make a show in “Olimpiyskiy” like we did when he was leaving. That show gathered 22,000 spectators and was a great present for all his fans. And then he would go abroad. This is of course is only my desire for now. I will work on it. Maybe we will make it happen.”

Who do you see as his next opponent?

VF: “I think any M-1 heavyweight would accept this fight. Actually, he can face any TOP heavyweight from all over the World.”

How long will Fedor be able to fight in your opinion?

VF: “I think for a couple of years, easily.”

Perak (R) unsuccesfuly fought Denis Smoldarev for the coveted M-1 Challenge heavyweight title earlier this year
Perak (23-5-1, 12 KO/TKO, 7 SUB), fighting out of Croatia, is coming off tough, competitive fights against two of the best heavyweights in the world, another past M-1 Challenge title challenger, Denis Smoldarev, and reigning M-1 Challenge champion Marcin Tybura.

This past February at M-1 Challenge 55, Perak lost by submission (arm-lock) to Smoldarev in the opening round. Perak’s only title fight to date was April 4, 2014, in which he was stopped in the third round by Tybura’s punches.

After his aforementioned fights, Perak decided to drop down in weight to fight as a light heavyweight. He was scheduled face Rashad Yusupov last May at M-1 Challenge 57, however, a knee surgery forced Perak out of that fight and he will instead make his M-1 light heavyweight debut versus Nemkov. Perak will be looking for his first win in M-1 Global competition, fighting for the fourth time in an event presented by the highly respected Russian promotional company.

Nemkov (on top) gave M-1Challenge light heavyweight champion Stephan Puetz all he could handle in their bout
A native of Kazakhstan, now fighting out of Belgorod, Russia, Nemkov (16-8-0, 9 KO/TKO, 4 SUB) hopes the third time is the charm for him. He has lost two M-1 Challenge light heavyweight title fights, March 14, 2014 toPuetz by split decision at M-1 Challenge 46, and back in 2011 to Vinny Magalhaes by third-round submission (choke) at M-1 Challenge 25.

A veteran of 16 M-1 Global fights (9-7-0), Nemkov has been sidelined the past 1 ½ years recovering from a series of injuries.

Nemkov’s return and Perak’s debut as a light heavyweight adds up to an explosive fight for the right to challenge Puetz.

Three other fights have been announced this far for M-1 Challenge 60: Battle in Orel. All fights and fighters are subject to change, additional bouts will soon be announced.

Polish light heavyweight Marcin Zontek (14-8-0, 6 KO/TKO, 5 SUB) takes on Maxim Futin, of Russia, Zulfikar Usmanov (7-4-1, 1 KO/TKO, 4 SUB) faces Alexey “Ataman” Makhno (9-3-0, 4 KO/TKO, 1 SUB) in a battle of Russian lightweights, and French bantamweight Moktar Benkaci (11-6-0) meets Evgeni Lazukov (7-2-0, 1 KO/TKO, 1 SUB), of Russia.

Zontek (14-8-0, 6 KO/TKO, 5 SUB) (pictured to left) plans a spectacular comeback from his 2012 bloody fight with Sergey Korneev for the M-1 Challenge light heavyweight title. Zontek needed more than 2 ½ years to fully recover from his loss but he won his last two fights going into his Aug. 5 fight.

A two-time Combat Sambo champion and European vice-champion, Futin (4-2-0, 4 KO/TKO) is an exciting fighter who often spars with Vyacheslav Vasilevky. Futin is always in great shape and known as an excellent striker.

Usmanov (pictured below left) is an experienced MMA fighter from St. Petersburg.
A powerful striker, he has twice been awarded “Fight of the Night” bonuses. Riding a five-fight win streak, Makhno is a promising prospect whose M-1 Challenge debut ended with a sensational knockout victory over Rakhman Makhazhiev (pictured below right).

In his most recent fight, Benkaci (11-7-0, 3 KO/TKO, 7 SUB) gave Nikita Chistyakov all he could handle, albeit in a loss by majority decision. Benkaci (pictured below left), whose previous fights have been at featherweight, was at a disadvantage fighting Chistyakov at lightweight. When M-1 Global launched its bantamweight division last month, dropped down to a much more comfortable weight class for him.

A seven-time European Universal Combat champion, Lazukov (pictured below right) showed his potential early, defeating UFC flyweight contender Ali Begautinov during his relatively young professional career.

M-1 Challenge 60 will be streamed live from Orel in high definition on www.M1Global.TV. Viewers will be able to watch the preliminary fights and main card by logging on to register at www.M1Global.TV. Fans may watch all of the action on their computers, as well as on Andriod and Apple smart phones and tablets.

WSOF Signs Adam Ward and Andreas Spang

LAS VEGAS (July 15, 2015) –World championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) announced today that it has expanded its roster again with the signing of two new athletes – red-hot featherweight (145 pounds) Adam Ward and battle-tested, light heavyweight (205 pounds) finisher Andreas “Sweet Swede” Spang– to exclusive, multi-fight agreements.

“We are thrilled to welcome Adam and Andreas – two aggressive and exciting competitors whose respective careers are on the upswing – to the rapidly expanding WSOF roster of world-class talent,” said WSOF President Ray Sefo.

Ward’s and Spang’s WSOF debuts will be announced soon.

The 29-year-old Ward (15-6) of Chicago, Ill. is a versatile and prolific competitor who is in the midst of a six-fight winning streak dating back to Sept. 27, 2013 when the Gilbert Grappling team member made quick work of Pedro Velasco, submitting Velasco with a rear-naked choke in just 46 seconds.

In his last start, Ward earned a unanimous decision over Strikeforce veteran Rey “The Warrior” Trujillo.

Spang (9-3) is a 36-year-old native of Sweden who resides in Las Vegas and trains under “One Kick” Nick Blomgren. A former amateur boxer who amassed a career record of 15-5, Spang also dabbled in professional kickboxing where he went 1-0 for the once great Japanese kickboxing promotion, K-1.

To date, Spang’s best conquest is perhaps his second round (3:34) KO (punch) of Brian “The Professional Predator” Rogers on April 20, 2012. When he enters the WSOF cage for the first time, Spang will be looking to notch his second straight win after earning a unanimous decision over J.A. Dudley on Dec. 5, 2014.

MELVIN ‘THE YOUNG ASSASSIN’ GUILLARD SET FOR PROMOTIONAL DEBUT IN THE MAIN EVENT OF BELLATOR 141 AGAINST BRANDON ‘COLD ROLL’ GIRTZ

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 15, 2015) – Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard’s (32-14-2 2 NC) first bout under the Bellator MMA banner will come in lightweight action against Brandon “Cold Roll” Girtz (11-4) on Friday, Aug. 28 at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, Calif.

The contest serves as the headlining bout of “Bellator MMA: Guillard vs. Girtz,” which airs live on Spike at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, while preliminary bouts will stream on Spike.com at 7 p.m. ET. Additional bouts will be announced shortly.

Tickets for Bellator 141, which start at just $50, go on sale this Friday at Pechanga.com and the Pechanga Resort & Casino box office. Doors for the event open at 4 p.m. PT local time, and the first contest takes place one hour later.

“Since signing Melvin [Guillard] in May, we have been anxious to get him inside the Bellator cage,” Bellator MMA President Scott Coker said. “Brandon Girtz has performed well for us and will face his stiffest competition to date when he meets the 50-fight veteran. I’m really looking forward to the event, as well as returning to one of our favorite venues in Pechanga Resort and Casino.”
At only 32 years of age, “The Young Assassin” has amassed 50 professional bouts in a career that dates back to 2002. With 21 victories coming by KO, Guillard has generated a large fan base with his exciting fighting style.

Born in New Orleans, the knockout artist has honed his skills at some of the top MMA gyms in the world including: Jackson’s MMA, Blackzilians, Grudge Training Center and American Top Team, where he currently trains. During his 22-fight stint with Ultimate Fighting Championship, Guillard broke MMA great BJ Penn’s record for most KO’s in the lightweight division with eight, an accolade that he still holds to this day.

An NCAA Division II All-American at Minnesota State University, Girtz has competed for Bellator MMA since 2012, accruing a record of 4-2. It’s safe to say that the Northway Martial Arts-product is a “submission specialist,” with seven of his 11 professional victories coming by way of making his opponent tap out.

“Cold Roll” was officially cleared to return to active competition in May after suffering an ACL injury during training. This return bout will be Girtz’s first appearance in 2015, and will also serve as his first time in a headlining role.

FULL LINE-UP ANNOUNCED FOR ONE: KINGDOM OF WARRIORS

15 July 2015 – Yangon, Myanmar: Asia’s largest and the world’s most exciting mixed martial arts organization, ONE Championship™ (ONE), has announced the full line-up for ONE: KINGDOM OF WARRIORS — the first ever event in Yangon, Myanmar. Russian fighter Elena Pashnina will make her MMA debut in the ONE cage against Taiwanese fighter Jenny Huang in a female atomweight bout. The event will see a clash of Burmese lightweights as they vie to be crowned champion of the inaugural Myanmar Lightweight Tournament. The card will also feature local Burmese featherweights as they compete to be crowned champion of the Myanmar Featherweight Tournament. In addition, there will also be a special Lethwei bout between top Burmese Lethwei fighters, Soe Htet Oo and Phyan Tway.

The event is headlined by reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion, Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, as he takes on challenger Toni Tauru. With such a great line-up, ONE: KINGDOM OF WARRIORS is set to ignite Thuwanna Stadium, Yangon, for the first time on 18 July.

CEO of ONE Championship™, Victor Cui, stated, “We had a successful press conference in Yangon just recently to announce ONE: KINGDOM OF WARRIORS, graced by the top media representatives in the country as well as all our partners in Myanmar such as Z Corp, Sky Net, and the Myanmar Traditional Lethwei Federation. The enthusiastic support shown by local media and various partners is highly encouraging. We look forward to hosting a memorable world-class event here in Yangon with a blend of the best local Burmese talent and top international fighters.”

Russian fighter Elena Pashnina is based in Chengdu, China and holds a black belt in Sanda. Pashnina boasts well-rounded stand up skills, incorporating wrestling and various mixed martial arts components into her solid striking game. The young 20-year-old will be making her ONE Championship debut this 18 July against a more experienced opponent Jenny Huang.

Jenny Huang is a Taiwanese female fighter with a 1-0 MMA record having emerged victorious by decision in her last fight in another promotion. She is The Philippines Asia Open white belt Gi & No-Gi champion, and holds a white belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a black belt in Judo. Looking to make her mark in the ONE Championship female atomweight division, Jenny will bring her best to the cage to improve her record against Russia’s Elena Pashnina.

In the ONE Championship Myanmar Lightweight Tournament, Saw Ba Oo will face Dawna Aung while Thway Thit Aung will challenge Saw Thae Oo. In the Myanmar Lightweight Tournament Alternate Bout, Saw L Lay will face Saw Hla Doe.

Burmese fighter, Dawna Aung started learning Lethwei when he was nine years old after seeing some fights and deciding he wanted to try it himself. In 2006 he became a national Lethwei Champion and now he is determined to showcase his skills to fight fans outside of Myanmar by being successful in MMA. His opponent, Saw Ba Oo, has been training Lethwei since 2012. He is a long time MMA fan who will be fulfilling a lifetime dream by fighting for ONE Championship.

Thway Thit Aung comes from a rural agricultural background but has literally fought his way out of poverty as a Lethwei star. He has been training since childhood and is a Golden Belt Champion who is known for his devastating knees. Saw Thae Oo began training Lethwei in 2011 and is a full time fighter known for his powerful punches.

Lightweight fighter, Saw L Lay began training in 2011 after seeing his Dad compete in organized fights. Although his full time job involves computers, Saw L Lay has already won a few notable Lethwei fights against foreign fighters but is currently focused in training full time for his ONE Championship debut. His upcoming opponent, Saw Hla Toe is a Lethwei veteran who was inspired to take up martial arts by his grandfather and has been learning since childhood. He likes the respect and discipline which combat sports teaches and has won both local and regional titles as a Lethwei fighter. This 18 July, he is looking forward to being recognised as a bonafide MMA fighter.

In the ONE Championship Myanmar Featherweight Tournament, Min Htet Zaw is up against Myo Man Thit while Hlit Hlit Lay battles Tha Pyay Nyo for the chance to be crowned champion. The Myanmar Featherweight Tournament Alternate Bout will see a clash between Burmese fighters, Phoe Thaw and Kyal Sin Htoo.

Min Htet Zaw began training Lethwei in 2013 having previously been a promising footballer. The biggest win of his Lethwei career came in 2014 when he beat A Mae Thar in Thingyan. He is now set to pursue MMA in hopes of making his country and family proud. Going up against Min Htet Zaw for the Featherweight Tournament Champion Title is Myo Man Thit. Just like his opponent, he was extremely competitive in football previously and has taken this ‘win at all cost’ attitude into his fighting career.

Hlit Hlit Lay started training Lethwei at the age of 12 because his uncle was a fighter. He is the oldest of eight brothers and is known for his knees. Tha Pyay Nyo began training in Lethwei at the age of 16 for self-defense. He is one of six siblings and three of them are also fighters. His favourite memory from his Lethwei career is winning the Golden Belt Tournament.

The Alternate Bout features Phoe Thaw, a security guard at the Japanese embassy who began training martial arts in 2009 because he wanted to sharpen both his body and mind. He has also trained in Taekwondo, Karate and Aikido and describes himself as self-confident and strong-minded. Challenging Phoe Thaw is Kyal Sin, a farmer who started training at 19 to develop strength and stamina.

Tickets for ONE: KINGDOM OF WARRIORS on 18 July in Yangon are on sale now at Yangon Hotline 1876. Ticket categories begin with the cageside experience for VIPs at 200,000 Kyat, followed by Gold 50,000 Kyats, Silver 25,000 Kyats, and Bronze 10,000 Kyats.

Bellator MMA names voice of the Boston Celtics, Sean Grande as new play-by-play announcer

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (July 13, 2015) – Bellator MMA and Spike have named veteran sports announcer and the current voice of the Boston Celtics, Sean Grande, as its new play-by-play announcer. Grande will team up with color analyst Jimmy Smith beginning this Friday, July 17 for “Bellator 140” at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Fans can tune in to hear Grande and Smith call the action for the first time at “Bellator 140,” which airs live and free on Spike at 9 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. CT. The event features five action-packed welterweight fights, headlined by Bellator Welterweight Champion Douglas Lima, who defends his belt against Andrey Koreshkov, plus the return of hometown favorite Brennan Ward.

“Sean Grande is an incredibly talented and well-accomplished sports announcer with a passion for mixed martial arts,” said Scott Coker, President, Bellator MMA. “He has been behind the microphone for many championship events and we look forward to him bringing his enthusiasm and energy to Bellator as our league continues to grow.”

“I’m proud to have called games for some amazing organizations, ABC Sports, CBS, the Celtics, the Red Sox, Westwood One,” said Grande. “But I’ve simply been blown away by the people at Spike TV and Bellator, and the product they want to present. I’m legitimately honored to join both of these teams, and make some great sports television.

“I absolutely love what Scott (Coker) has done for Bellator and l’m thrilled to start calling the fights alongside Jimmy Smith Friday night on Spike. I’m going to have the best seat in the house, watching Douglas Lima and some of the best welterweights in the world. Hard to imagine a better way to kick things off, and it’s all taking place just a short drive from Boston.

“I understand why I’m a story today. But what I’m really excited about, is being able to tell the stories of amazing champions like Patricio Pitbull, Will Brooks, Douglas Lima and Liam McGeary as they rise to the top of the sport.”

More on Grande (@SeanGrandePBP):
Recently completing his 18th season in the NBA and 15th as the voice of the Boston Celtics, Grande’s epic account of the two-month run to the 2008 World Championship cemented his status as one of the nation’s elite play-callers. He’s joined by analyst Cedric Maxwell for all Boston Celtics games. Since shortly after their 2001 pairing, “Grande and Max” have become one of Boston’s most popular and iconic on-air combinations, and the soundtrack of the Celtics “New Big Three Era”.

On May 20, 2013, Grande made his Major League Baseball debut, after being named the alternate play-by-play voice of the World Champion Boston Red Sox. It completed his cycle of broadcasting major pro sports (NBA, NFL, NHL, WNBA and MLS). In January, he returned to his television roots, calling college basketball on CBS Sports Network.

Grande’s reached several milestones over the last few years. Only the legendary Johnny Most and current television voice Mike Gorman have now called more Celtics games. In 2009, he called his 1000th NBA Game, joining Marv Albert and Ian Eagle as the only three to reach that plateau before the age of 40. Grande and Max were honored pre-game at TD Garden for their 1000th game together on February 3, 2012.

Voted by the readers of Boston Sports Media Watch as the best play-by-play announcer in Boston, Sean was recruited back to town in 2001 after serving three years as the television voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves. When he signed in 1998, he was the youngest announcer in the NBA. The versatile Grande’s play-by-play credits also include two seasons as part of ABC Sports College Football broadcast team, joining the likes of Keith Jackson and Brent Musburger.

Grande’s first stint in Boston began at Boston University where he spent seven seasons calling Terrier hockey, football and basketball on both television and radio. On the television side, Grande was the original voice of the Hockey East Game of the Week on Fox Sports Net. His college hockey work for Fox and the NCAA Tournament garnered him three New England Emmy nominations including the 1999 Emmy for best Play-by-Play. He’s served six years as the television voice of the NCAA East Regional. Enumclaw’s Harrington, Cunningham Capture Gold at Super Fight League 41

Tacoma, Washington (July 12, 2015) – It was an historic night inside the I-5 showroom at the Emerald Queen Casino. Fighters from all over the Pacific Northwest stepped into the cage for a chance at glory. With two title fights headlining this incredible card, fans packed inside the venue were in for a treat from the opening bell.

In one of the most exciting fights any mixed martial arts fan can hope to see, the main event of the evening featured Tacoma’s own Harrison “Wolverine” Bevens (7-4) take on Enumclaw native Justin “Ruckus” Harrington (7-2) for the Super Fight League America 155lb. title. After surviving a vicious left hand and seemingly endless ground and pound from Harrington in the first, Bevens began to battle back in the second before eating another vicious overhand right from his opponent. Harrington followed up the shot with hammer fists from top position, forcing the referee to make the stop. With the win, Harrington goes home with the Lightweight Championship for the second time in his young career.

The co-main event of the evening saw another Enumclaw fighter, the undefeated Tyson Cunningham (4-0-1) take on Thomasville, Georgia’s Mike “Zombie” Dubois (4-2) for the Super Fight League America Welterweight Championship. The first round went to the ground early and often, with Cunningham landing takedown after takedown. As the action moved to round number two, the trend remained the same, with Cunningham outwrestling the Georgia native before sinking in the elusive Von Flue choke and earning championship gold.

In one of the evening’s featured contests, highly touted Spanaway native Bobby McIntyre (3-1) took on Vancouver’s Jason Novelli (8-1) in a 3-round Lightweight title eliminator bout. The action came early, with both fighters landing huge takedowns in the first round. The second round saw Novelli pull away, eventually sinking in a rear-naked choke for the submission victory and staking his claim to a Lightweight Title fight against newly crowned champion, Justin”Ruckus” Harrington in a fight.

Four hotly contested bouts rounded out the evening. Those results are as follows.

With an increasing slate of content available across a wide range of platforms, design elements where heavily focused on providing navigational clarity and product differentiation for fans. WSOF 23: Gaethje vs. Palomino II Hits Phoenix on Sept. 18

LAS VEGAS (July 9, 2015) –World Series of Fighting (WSOF.com) will return to Phoenix, Ariz., where it delivered one of its most memorable nights of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action to date earlier this year, with a world championship doubleheader headlined by a highly-anticipated rematch between undefeated, reigning WSOF World Lightweight (155 pounds) Champion Justin “The Highlight” Gaethje and hard-hitting challenger Luis “Baboon” Palomino at Comerica Theatre on Friday, Sept. 18, live on NBCSN.

In the co-main event, David Branch will attempt to become the promotion’s first two-division champion and first world light heavyweight (205 pounds) champion in history when he squares off with determined, hard-hitting KO artist Teddy Holder in the championship round of the four-man, multi-event tournament that kicked off at Comerica Theatre on March 28 as part of WSOF 19.

Priced from $39.99, tickets for “WSOF 23: Gaethje vs. Palomino II” go on sale on Saturday, July 11 at 10 a.m. MT and will be available for purchase at the Comerica Theatre box office and online at Ticketmaster.com.

“We are excited to return to Phoenix where we witnessed one of the most incredible fights in WSOF history earlier this year between Justin Gaethje and Luis Palomino, and to see them do it all over again,” said WSOF President Ray Sefo.

“Likewise,” continued Sefo, “we look forward to crowning the first WSOF light heavyweight champion in history and, based on their recent performances in our cage, David Branch and Teddy Holder should deliver a thrilling end to our historic tournament.”

The ferocious, 26-year-old Gaethje (14-0) of Safford, Ariz. put forth the gutsiest performance of his four-year professional career, thus far, when he faced off with Palomino, a 34-year-old resident of Miami, Fla. known for his devastating KO power, in the main event of WSOF 19.

An electric, seesaw battle that repeatedly brought the crowd on hand to its feet, suddenly ended when Gaethje, after digging down deep, put together a combination of leg kicks and punches that put the tenacious Palomino down in the third round of action and prompted the referee to call off the fight, giving Gaethje the TKO win at the 3:57 mark of the third stanza.

Branch and Holder find themselves in championship round action in the WSOF tournament that kicked off in Phoenix on March 28, after both fighters faced unexpected, last-minute adversaries in the semifinal stage.

Originally slated to square off with Ronny Markes, the 33-year-old Branch (16-3), the reigning WSOF world middleweight (185 pounds) champion and a Renzo Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt who hails from Brooklyn, N.Y., found himself with a new opponent in Jesse McElligott just 24 hours before fight time on April 10, after a dehydrated Markes was forced to withdraw from the affair.

Branch, who seized the WSOF middleweight strap with a first round (1:41) submission (d’arce choke) of Jesse Taylor on June 21, 2014, handled McElligott relatively easily, submitting him with a shoulder choke in the second round (1:28) of battle to notch his sixth consecutive win.

Holder (9-1) of Bartlett, Tenn. experienced a stroke of luck when, just hours before the 29-year-old was slated to enter the cage for a WSOF 19 preliminary bout, one of the original tournament participants, Matt Hamill, withdrew from his semifinal stage matchup with seasoned star Thiago Silva, and Holder was asked to replace him.

With a fraction of the professional experience of his new opponent, the heavy-handed Holder charged forward, eventually blasting Silva with a storm of punches that crumbled the Brazil native in the first round (2:00) and earned Holder a trip to the tournament’s championship round.

The live NBCSN telecast of “WSOF 23: Gaethje vs. Palomino II” begins at 7:00 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on Friday, September 18.

Doors at Comerica Theatre will open for WSOF 23 at 3:00 p.m. MT and the first preliminary card bout will begin at 3:45 p.m.

Additional bouts for the event will be announced soon.

LAS VEGAS (July 1, 2015) – World Series of Fighting’s (WSOF.com) blockbuster event on Saturday, Aug. 1 will now feature five contests on the night’s live NBCSN telecast, with the addition of a lightweight (155 pounds) matchup between four-time promotional veteran Jimmy Spicuzza (6-2) and submission ace Islam Mamedov (11-1).

The lightweight contest joins the night’s main event showdown between reigning WSOF World Welterweight (170 pounds) Champion Rousimar Palhares (17-6) and challenger and two-time world champion Jake Shields (31-7), as well as the co-main event between WSOF World Bantamweight (135 pounds) Champion Marlon Moraes (14-4-1) and undefeated challenger Sheymon Moraes (7-0), and a highly-anticipated, light heavyweight (205 pounds) battle between combat sports phenom Tyrone “King of the Ring” Spong (2-0) and gritty veteran Mike “MAK” Kyle (21-12-1).

A fifth bout will be announced shortly, as Magomed Bibulatov (9-0) has been forced to withdraw from a previously announced, inaugural WSOF world flyweight (125 pounds0 championship matchup with fellow undefeated contender Donavon Frelow (4-0), who will now likely fight on the evening’s WSOF.com-streamed preliminary card against a new opponent.

Spicuzza, of Las Vegas, Nev., is a Drysdale Jiu-Jitsu fighter and four-time WSOF veteran. He debuted for the promotion at WSOF 9 on March 29, 2014, and submitted Gil Guardado with a rear-naked choke in the first round (3:14), before returning at WSOF 10 on June 21, 2014, and scoring a unanimous decision win over Justin Jaynes.

At WSOF 12 on Aug. 9, 2014, he suffered a TKO (punches) loss to Lucas Montoya, but bounced back at WSOF 19 on March 28, where he earned a split decision win over Benny Madrid.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Mamedov is a Dagestani import who now calls Jersey City, N.J. his home. Competing professionally since 2009, Mamedov suffered a loss in his second professional outing, but has since rattled off 10 consecutive victories, including six by submission and two via TKO.

Mamedov made his WSOF debut on April 10, scoring a devastating first round (4:42) TKO on Leon Davis with a barrage of punches.

The live NBCSN telecast of “WSOF 22: Palhares vs. Shields” begins at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on Aug. 1.
Priced from $29.99, tickets for the event are on sale at Ticketmaster.com and WSOF.com.

Doors at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will open at 4 p.m. PT, and the first preliminary card bout will begin at 5 p.m. PT.

The additional bouts include a featherweight faceoff between Waylon Lowe (15-6, 1 NC) and Ryan Quinn (10-5,1 NC), Billy “Wolverine” Giovanella (8-3), who faces Rodrigo “The Young Lion” Almeida (12-2) at bantamweight, Kaline “The Dark Angel” Medeiros (4-4), who fights Sarah “Soulja” Payant (1-0) in a women’s strawweight scrap, and lightweights Dean “The Hammer” Hancock (1-0) versus Alex Dunworth (2-1,1 NC).

Bellator 140 features five world-class welterweight bouts including World Champion Douglas Lima (26-5) and Andrey Koreshkov (17-1), Chris Honeycutt (6-0) vs. Paul Bradley (22-6), Michael “Venom” Page (7-0) taking on Rudy Bears (16-13), Brennan “The Irish Bad Boy” Ward (10-3) scrapping with Gavin “War Horse” Sterritt (6-1), and knockout artist Paul “Semtex” Daley (36-13-2) challenging Dennis Olson (14-8). Sergei Kharitonov: “I’m the only Russian fighter who defeated Fabricio Werdum

Sergei, how bad did you want this rematch?

SK: “The rematch with Kenny Garner is extremely important fight for me. This fight will be held in Kazakhstan where many of my fans will come to support me. Our last fight in China didn’t go as I planned. Kenny is a dangerous fighter, though he is at an advanced age already. I did a lot to prepare myself for this fight and I hope to show a spectacular fight on July 3.”

What went wrong at your last fight with “Deuce”?

SK: “Well, Kenny showed a really impressive ground game and had almost succeeded in holding me in parter. He even tried to make a submission on me. That was a total surprise. In addition, I didn’t have a full complete training camp for that fight as I had been preparing for the kickboxing championship. But I promised M-1 Global to fight him no matter what and I did.”

What mistakes did you make in your 1st fight with Garner?

SK: The only one: I didn’t prepare well for that fight. I’d spent too much time to prepare for my kickboxing fight and was extremely exhausted. That was a risk but I gave my word to Vadim Finkelchtein (M-1 Global president) and M-1 to fight. So, I didn’t have a choice. Now it will all be different as I’ve just completed training camp and I’m ready.”

What edge do you have over Garner?

SK: “My stand-up game is, for sure, a significant competitive edge. I used to fight in kickboxing a lot, so I’m confident in my striking. He, on the other hand, has a benefit in parter (ground game) and wrestling.”

Tell us about your training camp in Thailand?

SK: “I was training there with Alistair Overeem and other fighters from Europe and Brazil. In addition, I visited my coach in Belarus. The major part of my work was dedicated to conditioning and parter game.”

Was your training with Alistair Overeem useful for you?

SK: “That’s for sure. Overeen is a Top-10 best heavyweight in the World. So, I think training with him was good for me and that it will show in my fight with Kenny.”

Would you like to fight for the M-1 Global heavyweight title belt with Marcin Tybura?

SK: “I’d like that for sure! I don’t turn down any fight. I’m still the only Russian fighter who defeated current UFC champ Fabricio Werdum. And I have a lot of wins over noticeable fighters such as Nogueira, Overeem, Arlovski, and Rua. They are elite MMA fighters, they are champions. I’ve never turned down any fight. If M-1 offers me a fight with Marcin Tybura. I will accept that fight immediately. I would accept it right now.”

Are you thinking about calling it a career these days?

SK: “Not at all. I’m young and I think that my fighting career is only at its beginning. I’m ready for big fights!”
