WSOF 18: Moraes vs. Hill set for February 12; Tickets on Sale Tuesday

LAS VEGAS (Jan. 8, 2015) — Reigning World Series of Fighting (www.WSOF.com) world bantamweight (135 pounds) champion Marlon Moraes (13-4-1) of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. via Nova Friburgo, Brazil will put his coveted Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) title on the line for the first time against undefeated rival Josh Hill (10-0) of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in the main event of a stacked, four-fight, live NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) telecast from the Edmonton Expo Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on Thursday, February 12.

Priced from $50, tickets for WSOF 18: Moraes vs. Hill go on sale at 12 p.m. EST on Tuesday, January 13 at Ticketmaster.com and WSOF.com.
“This is an incredible matchup between two of the world’s top 135 pound fighters that we have been looking to put together for the last several months and, now that it is finally here, we will see who the superior fighter is on February 13,” said WSOF President, six-time world champion and two-time Hall of Famer Ray Sefo.

In the featherweight (145 pounds) co-main event, a red-hot Chris “Gritz” Gruetzemacher (12-1) of Scottsdale, Ariz. will square off with hard-hitting puncher Antonio “Pato” Carvalho (15-6) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
World-class striker Shane “Shaolin” Campbell (10-2) of Edmonton will make his debut in the WSOF cage against brutal finisher Brandt Dewsbery (13-3-1) of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada in a welterweight (170 pounds) tilt, and unbeaten prospect Hakeem Dawodu (3-0) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada will battle Tristan Johnson (9-5) of Jordantown, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Marlon Moraes vs. Josh Hill

The 26-year-old Moraes, quickly becoming recognized as the top bantamweight fighter in the world, will enter the WSOF cage with eight consecutive victories under his belt, including a split decision over former world champion Miguel Torres, and devastating KO finishes of fellow stars Tyson Nam and Carson Beebe.

In his last effort, Moraes turned in another dominant performance – a second round (1:35) submission (rear-naked choke) of Cody Bollinger in a 140-pound catchweight contest at WSOF 13 on September 13, 2014. Moraes’ win streak dates back to December 2, 2011, when he earned a unanimous decision over Chris Manuel.

The versatile Moraes will attempt to become the first to solve the puzzle that is the 28-year-old Hill, unbeaten since he made his professional debut with a second round (1:42) TKO (punches) of Vito Attanasi on October 10, 2009.
After a 22-month hiatus, Hill, known for his superior wrestling base, made a thunderous return to action on June 7, 2014 at WSOF Canada 2, scoring a first-round (4:20) KO (punch) on Mike Adams.

Chris Gruetzemacher vs. Antonio Carvalho

The 28-year-old Gruetzemacher is riding a spectacular 11-fight win streak that began with his split decision win over Josh Gaskins on April 11, 2009. A power striker with considerable ground skills, Gruetzemacher has, to date, claimed 6 of his 12 career wins by (T)KO and 3 by way of submission.

On March 29, 2014, Gruetzemacher made his WSOF debut, earning a unanimous decision over renowned submission expert John Gunderson. The bout represented the first time in over four years that Gruetzemacher was taken the distance of a fight.

Carvalho will make his much-anticipated debut in the WSOF cage after an extended layoff from competition that began after the 35-year-old suffered a first round (3:06) TKO (punches) at the hands of Darren Elkins, as a result of what many believe was a controversial stoppage by the referee, on March 16, 2013. To date, 10 of Carvalho’s 15 career wins have come by way of (T)KO or submission.

Prior to the defeat, Carvalho reeled off back-to-back victories in the UFC over Daniel Pineda and Rodrigo Damm on July 21, 2012 and November 17, 2012, respectively.

Shane Campbell vs. Brandt Dewsbery

Over the course of the last nine years, the 26-year-old Campbell has distinguished himself as a force in both the MMA world and the kickboxing ring while competing all over the world.

In 2013, Campbell did damage amongst the ranks of kickboxers in three of the world’s top promotions, including K-1, winning five consecutive bouts. In both of his MMA starts in 2014, Campbell dominated with his superior striking, scoring a second round (:43) TKO (punches) on Jerrid Burke on May 9 and a second round (:29) TKO (punches) on Marcus Edwards on October 3.

With a proven ability to finish opponents both on his feet and on the ground, the 24-year-old Dewsbery arguably represents Campbell’s toughest challenge in the cage, yet. The 6-year veteran of professional MMA has, thus far, earned 6 of his 13-career wins by way of (T)KO and another 6 wins by way of submission.
Dewsbery will enter the WSOF cage for the second time in his career, in the midst of a three fight win streak that he began on February 21, 2014 with a first round (4:31) submission (rear-naked choke) of Mark Drummond. Dewsbery continued making a statement through the remainder of the year, scoring a fifth round (4:34) KO (flying knee strike) on Chase Maxwell on May 23, and a stunning, 38-second TKO (punches) on Tyler O’Brien on October 18.

Hakeem Dawodu vs. Tristan Johnson

Dawodu made his professional debut at the inaugural WSOF event in Canada on Feb. 21, 2014, scoring a thunderous first round (1:07) KO (punch) on Behrang Yousefi. The protégé of Muay Thai guru Mike Miles has since extended his unbeaten streak with two more dramatic victories, finishing Jake MacDonald by second round (:18) KO (punches) at the second WSOF Canada event on June 7, stopping Mike Malott by way of first round (4:13) TKO (punches and elbow strikes) at WSOF 14 on Oct. 11.

The hard-punching Johnson finished 2014 on a strong note, KO’ing Keven Morin with a punch in the first round (3:59) of their June 7 matchup. The 31-year-old is an eight-year veteran of the professional fight game, who ran to five consecutive victories in his first five starts before suffering his first defeat three years later, in 2010.

A preliminary fight card for WSOF 18: Moraes vs. Hill will be announced soon.

Fight Network Presents RFA 22: Smith vs. Njokuani LIVE this Friday, Jan. 9 at 10 p.m. ET

Toronto – Fight Network, the world’s premier 24/7 television channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, kicks off its jam-packed 2015 live event schedule with a live broadcast of RFA 22: Smith vs. Njokuani from Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Friday, January 9 at 10 p.m. ET.

Fight Network’s live broadcast will air nationwide in Canada and globally in over 30 countries across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

RFA 22: Smith vs. Njokuani will feature a main event between two of the world’s top welterweight prospects as hometown hero Gilbert Jamal Smith (10-3) battles fan favorite Chidi “Bang Bang” Njokuani (11-4) for the vacant RFA welterweight title.

In the co-main event, Mark “Tricky” Dickman (9-2) and Donald Sanchez (30-12) will meet in a high-stakes featherweight showdown.

The main card of RFA 22 will also include a featherweight clash between UFC vet Alvin Robinson (14-8) and Bellator vet Ricky Musgrave (13-4). In the featherweight division, local favorite Prentice Ingram (9-4) faces undefeated Jackson-Wink MMA prospect Landon Vannata (6-0). Then in the flyweight division, hometown standout Joey Eisenbraun (3-1) battles RFA vet Kevin Gray (3-1).

Smith is a longtime Colorado Springs resident and U.S. Army vet that is best known for his time on the seventeenth season of the UFC’s hit reality show The Ultimate Fighter. The UFC vet is now looking to have a triumphant homecoming in his second straight appearance for the RFA. In November, Smith defeated Serbian submission ace Bojan Velickovic in his RFA debut just up the road in Broomfield, Colorado. He now looks to continue his success in the RFA and the Centennial State by winning RFA gold in front of his home crowd.

“Obviously, fighting for the RFA title is a huge opportunity. It’s the proving grounds and best place to showcase your skills,” stated Smith. “The venue is also a 10-minute run from my house, so it will be great to fight in front of all of my friends and family.”

Njokuani will be making his sixth appearance for the RFA. During his time with the promotion, Njokuani has never lost a fight at his natural weight class of 170-pounds. He also quickly won over the RFA faithful with his dynamic striking skills and crowd pleasing style of fighting. Possessing a similar skill set to his older brother, eight-time UFC vet Anthony Njokuani, the younger Njokuani will be looking to make a mark on his own career by capturing his first world title. To help prepare for this moment, Njokuani is taking full advantage of the knowledge and skills of his newest teammate and coach, former UFC welterweight title challenger Jon Fitch.

“This is great. Fighting for a world title on national television is what I’ve always wanted,” stated an excited Njokuani. “Training full-time with Jon Fitch has been cool. We are the exact opposite. He’s that style of fighter that has always given me problems. It’s perfect for me to be working with a Top 10 welterweight that has fought for the UFC title. It makes me realize I can reach my dreams.”

The co-main event of RFA 22 will see the the return of Njokuani’s teammate Mark “Tricky” Dickman, who like Njokuani, will also be making his sixth appearance for the RFA. Dickman made his debut for the RFA at RFA 1 three years ago and has since made a name for himself for his world-class grappling skills and take-no-prisoners approach to fighting. In August, Dickman came up empty-handed in a 5-round, 25-minute war with Justin Lawrence for the RFA featherweight title, but also sees the addition of Fitch to his fight camp as a huge benefit heading into RFA 22.

Sanchez (30-12) will be the man tasked with facing Dickman in the RFA 22 co-headliner. Sanchez represents the most experienced opponent Dickman has faced in his career and he will look to capitalize on that experience. Sanchez has fought for several of the world’s top promotions such as Bellator, ONE FC, and Legacy FC in faraway destinations such as Japan, Singapore, and Canada. The former eight-time KOTC champion has won five of his last six bout and looks to build on that momentum against Dickman.

WSOF 17: SHIELDS VS. FOSTER FOUR NEW FIGHTS ADDED TO FIVE-BOUT MAIN CARD

LAS VEGAS (Jan. 5, 2015) – With a high stakes welterweight (170 pounds) matchup between two of the world’s most decorated Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) superstars and submission experts – Jake Shields (30-7-1, 1 NC) of San Francisco, Calif. and Brian Foster (22-6) of Sallisaw, Okla. – set to headline the World Series of Fighting (www.wsof.com) event on Saturday, January 17 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, the card has received four additional supporting bouts for the evening’s live NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) telecast.

Prior to the highly anticipated headliner, WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster will also feature lightweight (155 pounds) veteran Brian “The Bandit” Cobb (20-8) against undefeated prospect Johnny “Johnny Boy” Nunez (5-0).

A pair of undefeated, middleweight (185 pounds) rising stars – Bulgarian Krasimir “The Wrestler” Mladenov (11-0) and Brendan Kornberger (5-0) of Vancouver, British Columbia Canada – will put their perfect records on the line against each other.

Additionally, bantamweight (135 pounds) Bryson Hansen (7-2) faces “Ruthless” Rudy Morales (3-1) and welterweight (170 pounds) Adam Cella (6-2) meets Danny “Dee1” Davis Jr. (10-8-1) in the card’s first live NBCSN televised bout.

Priced from $29.99, tickets for WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster are on sale at Ticketmaster.com and WSOF.com.

Cobb, of Bakersfield, Calif., returns for his third appearance under the WSOF banner. In the promotion’s inaugural event, he earned a split-decision win over Brazilian standout Ronys Torres.

Cobb returned in 2013 and showed great heart, but ultimately suffered a TKO loss to undefeated WSOF superstar Justin Gaethje, who went on to capture the world lightweight title.

Nunez, of Las Vegas, Nev., is an Xtreme Couture-trained athlete who has competed professionally since 2012 and boasts a perfect record through his first five starts. In March, Nunez made his first appearance for WSOF, earning a hard-fought split-decision victory over fellow top prospect Ozzy Dugulubgov.

The 28-year-old Mladenov is one of Bulgaria’s top fighting exports. Unbeaten through the first 11 fights of his career, Mladenov now fights for the third time under the WSOF banner after earning previous wins over the hard-hitting Angel DeAnda and Kendrick Miree.

Mladenov has shown an ability to finish fights, with four submission wins to his credit, but he can also grind out wins, as witnessed by the six victories he has produced by decision.

The hard-punching Kornberger has only been taken the distance once, thus far, in his professional career that he ignited on March 12, 2010 with a first round (1:36) TKO of Troy Hardy with a barrage of punches. In his last start on Oct. 3, 2014, Kornberger scored his fourth career TKO with a third round (2:55) stoppage of Brad Stewart.

Xtreme Couture prospect Hansen, a Honolulu, Hawaii native who now lives in Las Vegas, looks to rebound from a disappointing August decision loss to Matt Sayles at WSOF 12. The loss came on the heels of a stellar 46-second KO of Sean Cantor. The heavy-handed Hawaiian boasts five KO’s in his seven career victories.

Morales, a Wand Fight Team prospect, will enjoy the opportunity to fight in his hometown of Las Vegas. After falling short in his pro debut, Morales has since earned three straight wins and now makes his WSOF debut.

Cella, from St. Louis, Mo., started his career 4-0 with four first-round stoppages and earned his way on to The Ultimate Fighter 17, though he came up short against eventual finalist Uriah Hall. Since his UFC run, Cella has gone 2-1 with two more first-round finishes.

Davis is another Las Vegas resident currently enjoying the best run of his career, a four-fight winning streak that includes WSOF wins over Jorge Lopez and Phil Dace.

The preliminary bout card for WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster will be announced soon.

NBC To Air ‘WSOF Unstoppable’ This Saturday

LAS VEGAS (Dec. 24, 2014) – Following a spectacular year of world-class Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action, NBC will recap the paths that seven World Series of Fighting (www.wsof.com) world champions took to capture gold with ‘WSOF Unstoppable: Road To The Championship,’ a special 90-minute program that premieres on the broadcast network on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 2:30 p.m. EST/11:30 a.m. PST.

“We are excited to cap off what was a banner year for World Series of Fighting, and appreciate the opportunity that NBC is giving our fans to re-live some of the most incredible moments we have seen thus far in our cage,” said World Series of Fighting President, six-time world champion and two-time Hall of Famer Ray Sefo.

“WSOF Unstoppable: Road To The Championship,” continued Sefo, “will essentially hone in on the journeys and achievements of our reigning world champions who fought their hearts out to become recognized as the top fighters in their respective divisions.”

Hosted by World Series of Fighting play-by-play announcer Todd Harris and MMA legends Bas Rutten and Renzo Gracie, ‘WSOF Unstoppable: Road To The Championship’ features a mixture of highlights and complete rounds from 16 different World Series of Fighting bouts that took place over the course of nine live events between 2013 and 2014, including the seven championship showdowns that took place this year.

Each matchup showcases one of the seven featured athletes – bantamweight (135 pounds) Marlon Moraes, featherweight (145 pounds) Lance “The Party” Palmer, undefeated lightweight (155 pounds) Justin Gaethje, welterweight (170 pounds) Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares, middleweight (185 pounds) David Branch, heavyweight Smealinho Rama and women’s strawweight (115 pounds) Jessica “Jag” Aguilar – in either a World Series of Fighting world championship bout or a bout that took the fighter one step closer to his or her successful title bid.

Since it launched its live event series on Nov. 3, 2012 with a stellar six-bout fight card on NBC Sports Network that reached over 80 million homes, World Series of Fighting has effectively been building its brand, and on July 5, the promotion made its debut on broadcast television before a live NBC audience of nearly 1 million viewers.
World Series of Fighting has successfully expanded its footprint to 100 different countries with its premier fight programming as part of a multi-year agreement with IMG, the world’s leader in sports content distribution.

‘WSOF Unstoppable: Road To The Championship’ is produced by Tupelo-Honey Raycom.

On Jan. 17, World Series of Fighting action returns to NBC Sports Network (NBCSN) live with a sensational card headlined by a welterweight matchup between rival superstars Jake Shields (30-7-1, 1 NC) of San Francisco, Calif. and Brian Foster (22-6) of Sallisaw, Okla. In the main event of the evening, veteran mixed martial artist Ji Xian scored a unanimous decision victory over young prospect Song Ya Dong in a memorable striking contest. Ji caught Song with a big punch in the first round, but the younger fighter quickly regained his bearings. Ji and Song viciously exchanged strikes, with the more experienced Ji landing the cleaner blows. In the second round, both combatants continued to pour on the power punches with Song being the busier fighter. In the third, the more experienced Ji began to pull away, dominating Song over the final five minutes of the bout.

In a highly-anticipated matchup, Adrian Pang routed tough lightweight contender Vincent Latoel, winning by submission in round three. Pang, with the edge in power, slugged Latoel with heavy hands whenever he got in close as Latoel opted to fight from a distance. On the ground, Pang scored on a few short elbows from Latoel’s guard. In the second round, Latoel was more effective at fighting from the outside while Pang looked for the takedown. Pang then dropped Latoel with a monstrous right hook but Latoel recovered well. In the third, Pang countered a takedown by pulling a Guillotine Choke, forcing Latoel to tap out.

In the Beijing Featherweight Tournament Final, two explosive striking specialists in Li Kai Wen and Wang Ya Wei went to battle to the delight of a packed crowd. Both fighters traded explosive strikes at the center of the cage in the first round, swapping blows in back-and-forth action. Li however showcased his superior striking acumen, getting the better of the exchanges with his quickness and power. In the second round, Li continued to control the bout with his accurate strikes, earning the victory by unanimous decision and the Beijing Featherweight Tournament Championship trophy.

In the Beijing Flyweight Tournament Final, Li Wei Bin and Wang Wei put on an epic war of attrition for fans in attendance. Li opened up the fight with a well-timed right hand that knocked Wang back, followed by a quick flurry of strikes. Wang was able to counter with a right hook that dropped Li to show fans he was still in it. The second round however saw Li establish his dominance in the striking department, gutting out a solid unanimous decision victory to become the Beijing Flyweight Tournament Champion.

Michal Pasternak overcame a left knee injury to defeat Rafael Silva by decision. The tall and lanky Pasternak used his brute strength to control the action on the ground, battering Silva with a barrage of punches and elbows from mount. In the second round, Silva tried to score with a takedown but wound up in the same position on his back with the larger Pasternak on top. Silva had a couple of solid submission attempts but Pasternak stuck to his gameplan. In the third round, Pasternak willed his way to the end of the fight, grinding out the unanimous decision victory.

In a clash of fierce competitors, Ariel Sexton announced his return to the lightweight mix with an impressive submission victory over Anvar Alizhanov. Alizhanov dropped Sexton with a right hand in the opening moments but on the ground, Sexton quickly showed his grappling brilliance, locking in a body triangle and dazzling with an array of submission attempts. The end sequence came when Sexton transitioned beautifully into a reverse triangle from mount and forced Alizhanov to tap out from an armlock.

In the second Beijing Featherweight Tournament Semi-Final bout, Wang Ya Wei showcased a relentless fighting style, defeating opponent Li Gen by Technical Knockout. Wang went straight to work on Li, with a clear advantage in strength from the sound of the first bell. In half guard, Wang unleashed a barrage of strikes on Li which featured downward fists and elbows, causing referee Yuji Shimada to call a halt to the bout.

Li Kai Wen impressed with a first round knockout victory over He Nan Nan in the first Beijing Featherweight Tournament Semi-Final bout. He came out with a furious attack on Li, driving his opponent back up against the cage but after another tenacious exchange, Li connected with a left hook that dropped He. A few more downward strikes by Li coerced referee Olivier Coste to stop the contest.

In the second Beijing Flyweight Semi-Final bout of the evening, Wang Wei completely dominated Liu Xu with his grinding style, winning by unanimous decision. Wang drove successfully into a takedown from the get-go and kept Liu glued to the mat for the majority of the first round. From top position, Wang worked on Liu with sharp elbows and punishing forearms. The second round saw much of the same, with Wang completely controlling the fight on the ground to claim the victory.

Li Wei Bin and Hao Yi Jie kicked off the action for ONE FC: DYNASTY OF CHAMPIONS. In an exciting battle in the first Beijing Flyweight Tournament Semi-Final bout, Hao started off with a quick Guillotine Choke attempt but Li was able to reverse his fortune, gaining mount. In the co-main event, top lightweight contenders Vincent Latoel and Adrian Pang will clash, plus a four-man, one-night featherweight tournament will crown a champion as He Nan Nan, Li Gen, Li Kai Wen and Wang Ya Wei compete for the honor.

Rounding out the card, top lightweights Ariel Sexton and Willy Ni will square off, while Michal Pasternak puts his undefeated record on the line against Portuguese sensation Rafael Silva.

Ji “The Executioner” Xian has made a reputation for himself as one of the top mixed martial artists in Asia. With a background in Sanda, Ji proved that he is one to watch out for in the MMA scene when he went undefeated in his first eight fights, winning a title in another promotion. He is now set to test himself against the best mixed martial artists in his division and will begin his quest for the ONE FC championship with a bout against Song Ya Dong.

Song Ya Dong is one of the brightest prospects in the world of MMA. He has already won four professional mixed martial arts bouts before his 20th birthday and is one of the most highly touted mixed martial artists to ever emerge from China. He will face his biggest test to date in compatriot Ji Xian. Song is best known for his takedowns and will make good use of them against fellow grappler Ji Xian.

Adrian Pang is one of the top lightweights in the world. A veteran of 30 fights, Pang was previously a champion in another promotion and will now make his ONE FC debut with his sights set on capturing the prestigious ONE FC lightweight title.

In his first four bouts with the promotion, Vincent Latoel has established himself as one of the most exciting mixed martial artists on the ONE FC roster. Latoel began his career as a Dutch kickboxer but has developed an all-action style that has proven to excite audiences. Latoel will be a tough litmus test for Pang as both fighters look to prove they are ready to contend for the title.

He Nan Nan is a former bodybuilder who has become a well-rounded mixed martial artist. He is proficient in wrestling and boasts devastating knockout power in both his fists. Originally from Shanxi Province, he now fights out of Beijing.

Li Kai Wen is a freestyle wrestler who currently trains at Tianjin alongside other top Chinese mixed martial artists. He will face He Nan Nan in the Beijing Featherweight Tournament semi-finals. Li Kai Wen has already faced He Nan Nan once in a grappling bout and defeated him via submission. He Nan Nan is determined to claim victory in the mixed martial arts realm while Li is out to prove he is the better fighter.

Li Gen is a Sanda fighter from Beijing. He is also highly adept at Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and his team has been crowned the best in Brazilian jiu-jitsu for the past two years. One of the top prospects to come out of the country, Li Gen wants to stake his claim as the best featherweight in the country by overcoming all competition.

Wang Ya Wei is a wrestler originally from Hubei province. Considered one of the top wrestlers in the country, he then moved to Thailand where he trained in Muay Thai for an extended period of time. He has since competed in regional competitions, winning his last bout by a nifty suplex and strikes sequence. Li Gen will face Wang Ya Wei in the semi-final bracket of the competition.

Ariel ‘Tarzan’ Sexton is a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt with an impressive record of eight wins and three losses. He was born in Canada but now lives in Costa Rica. After discovering jiu-jitsu in 2001, he quit his day job and dedicated his life to mastering the art, before transitioning to mixed martial arts. His grappling acumen was on full display in his eight wins, six of which he finished with a variety of submission moves.

Willy Ni is the protege of striking specialist Melvin Manhoef. He started his career with fifteen wins in sixteen bouts. Ni is a submission specialist as well and he will look to bounce back with a win over Ariel Sexton.

Michal Pasternak is a Polish mixed martial artist with an unblemished professional record of ten wins and no losses. Pasternak embraces the diversity of the sport, and his balanced record of knockouts and submissions reflect that. Pasternak will have his hands full with the world-class talent in the light heavyweight division, populated with stars like Roger Gracie, James McSweeney and Jake Butler.

Rafael Silva is a Portuguese mixed martial arts veteran with more than 50 fights of experience. Silva has notched 21 victories via submission and will look to get a winning streak in ONE FC going with a win over Pasternak.

Tickets for WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster on Sale Friday

LAS VEGAS (Dec. 17, 2014) — After circling around one another for the last several years, two of the world’s most decorated welterweight (170 pounds) Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) superstars and submission experts – Jake Shields (30-7-1, 1 NC) of San Francisco, Calif. and Brian Foster (22-6) of Sallisaw, Okla. – will finally square off in a high-stakes World Series of Fighting 17 (www.wsof.com) main event, live on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN), as well as in over 100 countries worldwide, from The AXIS Powered by Monster at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, on Saturday, Jan. 17.

Priced from $29.99, tickets for “WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster” go on sale Friday, Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. PST at Ticketmaster.com and WSOF.com.

“We are thrilled to bring in the New Year with an incredible showdown between two of the world’s top Mixed Martial Artists,” said WSOF President, six-time world kickboxing champion and two-time Hall of Famer Ray Sefo.

“This is a matchup that MMA fans have been anticipating for quite some time,” continued Sefo, “so to be able to deliver it in the fight capital of the world, at a venue that is part of one of the most historic fight destinations in history in Caesars Entertainment, makes the magnitude of this matchup that much bigger.”

Together, Shields and Foster, have within recent years faced and defeated four of the current top 10 ranked MMA superstars in the sport’s 170-pound weight division.

A Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Cesar Gracie, Shields is coming off a dominant first-round submission (rear-naked choke) victory over Canadian powerhouse Ryan Ford on Oct. 11.

Amongst his numerous conquests of world-class opponents, Shields boasts a stunning first-round submission (guillotine choke) of “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler, the current UFC Champion and No. 1-ranked welterweight in the world, as well as back-to-back wins over the current No. 4-ranked Tyron Woodley and Demian Maia, the current No. 8-ranked welterweight in the world, according to Fight Matrix.

Shields’ long list of memorable performances in the cage also include a shocking, unanimous decision upset of former world champion and all-time great Dan Henderson as well as a unanimous decision over Jason “Mayhem” Miller, a pair of wins that entertained over eight million live network television viewers in primetime.

Foster, a ferocious finisher who has earned 20 of his 22 career wins by way of (T)KO or submission, will put on the line a four-fight winning streak that began on July 27, 2013 with a crushing, second round (:43) KO (punch) of James Wood.

Like Shields, Foster has beaten a host of rival MMA icons, including Matt Brown, the current No. 9-ranked welterweight in the world, whom Foster submitted with a guillotine choke in the second round (2:11) on Nov. 20, 2010.

In his last start on May 16, Foster put forth a powerful performance and stunted fellow submission ace Gilbert Smith’s three-fight winning streak.

Additional matchups for “WSOF 17: Shields vs. Foster” will be announced soon.

“In addition to being one of the fastest growing sports in the world, MMA is also one of the most demanding in terms of training and conditioning,” said O’Toole. “The mental and physical toughness and discipline required is remarkable. Pat Curran vs. Daniel Weichel & Julia Budd vs. Talita Nogueira Kick Off Valentine’s Day Weekend at “Bellator: Manhoef vs. Shlemenko”

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (December 15, 2014) – Former Bellator MMA featherweight champion Pat “Paddy Mike” Curran (20-6) starts his pursuit of another title shot when he meets German submission ace Daniel “The Weasel” Weichel (34-8) at “Bellator: Manhoef vs. Shlemenko.”

Additionally, Canadian striking sensation Julia “The Jewel” Budd (6-2) faces undefeated Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist Talita “Treta” Nogueira (6-0).

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker announced the new fights on ESPN’s “MMA Live.”

Featuring a thrilling middleweight matchup between two of the most dangerous strikers in all of mixed martial arts with knockout artist Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef (29-12-1) facing former Bellator MMA middleweight champ Alexander “Storm” Shlemenko (50-9), “Bellator: Manhoef vs. Shlemenko” takes place Feb. 13 at Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.

Tickets for “Bellator: Manhoef vs. Shlemenko” are currently on sale and can be purchased at The Save Mart Center box office, Ticketmaster.com or Bellator.com.

The evening’s main card, including Curran vs. Weichel and Budd vs. Nogueira, airs on Spike TV.

“I get more and more excited every time I discuss this card,” said Bellator MMA President Scott Coker. “With Curran and Weichel, you know you’re going to get a championship-caliber fight, and I’m looking forward to seeing another former Strikeforce fighter in Julia Budd test herself against a very dangerous Talita Nogueira.”

The 27-year-old Curran is a 13-time Bellator MMA veteran and two-time Bellator MMA Featherweight World Champion. In March, Curran scored a submission win over then-champion Daniel Straus to claim the belt before losing it in September to Patricio Freire by decision following a five-round battle. Now he looks to get back on track for another shot at the belt.

Curran now meets Germany’s Weichel, who at just 30 years old already boasts more than 40 professional bouts. Earlier this year, Weichel earned a Bellator MMA tournament win by racking up victories over Desmond Green, Matt Bessette and Scott Cleve, bringing his record to 11-1 in his past 12 outings. With 34 career wins to his name, an incredible 21 of his victories have come by submission.

A Muay Thai specialist, Canada’s Budd opened her MMA career by competing four times under the Strikeforce banner. She then transitioned to the all-women’s Invicta FC promotion, where she racked up a four-fight winning streak that includes two victories by TKO and another by submission.

Meanwhile, Nogueira’s strengths lie in grappling, as she boasts not only a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt but also a pair of grappling world titles. She turned to MMA in 2009 and is undefeated through her first six professional contests, including four wins by submission.

More bouts for “Bellator: Manhoef vs. Shlemenko” are expected to be announced shortly.

“Bellator Manhoef vs. Shlemenko”: Friday, Feb. 13, Save Mart Center, Fresno, Calif.

Bellator Middleweight Main Event: Melvin Manhoef (29-12-1) vs. Alexander Shlemenko (50-9)

Julian Erosa KO’s Harrison Bevens to become first Super Fight League America Lightweight Champ

Tacoma, WA (December 14, 2014) Super Fight League America returned to the Pacific Northwest Saturday night, and the results were nothing short of spectacular. The evening saw an explosive fight card mix perfectly with a raucous crowd on hand at the Emerald Queen Casino. With two title fights, a stacked undercard and a healthy dose of controversy, those either in attendance or watching the international broadcast on YouTube were treated to quite the show.

The main event of the evening saw two up-and-coming local stars compete for the SFL America Lightweight strap as Yakima native Julian “Juicy J” Erosa knocked out Tacoma’s Harrison Bevens in the 2nd round. The action was lightning-quick from the opening bell, with Erosa pushing the pace. Round number two saw “Juicy J” land a huge left hand and follow it up with a knee to the face before the referee was forced to make the save.

After the fight, CageSport 145lb. Champion Drew Brokenshire entered the cage and announced that he would happily give Erosa a shot at his title in the near future. The fans in attendance shouted their approval at this potential second act, a follow up to their December 2012 contest that saw Brokenshire win via unanimous decision.

Saturday night’s co-main event was an absolute showstopper, as undefeated Enumclaw native and former U.S. Marine, Tyson Cunningham fought Seattle’s Ben Fodor, who is perhaps better known as the Seattle Superhero Phoenix Jones in a 5-round contest for the SFLA Welterweight Championship. Cunningham’s wrestling background was on full display as he landed takedowns seemingly at will, with Fodor landing huge punches and elbows from his back. Although he spent most of the fight trying to get back to his feet, Fodor gave far more significant damage than he received. His striking was explosive, landing massive shots to his opponent’s head and body. After Fodor had a point deducted for a head kick to a downed opponent, it looked all but assured that Cunningham would be leaving Tacoma with the belt. However, Fodor answered back with a fantastic performance in the championship rounds to make the judges decision even more difficult. After all was said and done, the fight ended in a split-draw, one of the more uncommon decisions in Mixed Martial Arts. Although a chorus of boo’s rang out from the audience upon hearing the decision, both fighters showed remarkable class during the post fight interviews. With neither man taking home the belt, a rematch could very well be headed our way.

Two incredible title fights capped off a fantastic night of MMA action that saw seven exciting undercard bouts. Those results are as follows:

Jason Novelli (5-0) def. Jason Gray (2-1) via 1st RD Darce Choke
Taki Uluilakepa (2-1-1) vs. Albert Tadevosyan (3-0-1) ends in a draw
Trent Tyler (3-5) def. Mike Devose (1-2) via 1st RD Guillotine Choke
Jenny Liou (2-0) def. Susy Watson (0-1) via Unanimous Decision
Woo Johnson (3-1) def. Josh LaGrange (1-6) via 1st RD verbal submission due to punches
Thomas Hoeper (1-1) def. Nate Cook (0-3) via Unanimous Decision
Sean Gee (1-0) def. Alex Eastman (0-5) via 2nd RD TKO

WSOF 16: Two Matchups Added To Saturday’s NBCSN Live Telecast

LAS VEGAS (Dec. 9, 2014) — Already featuring a star-studded lineup with two championship fights, including welterweight kingpin Rousimar Palhares vs. Jon Fitch and featherweight title holder Rick Glenn vs. Lance Palmer, “World Series of Fighting 16: Palhares vs. Fitch” now has two more action-packed matchups.

The two new main-card contests include featherweights Brenson Hansen (7-2) vs. Josh Berkovic (5-0) and welterweights “Lethal” Lewis Gonzalez (9-1) vs. Justin Buchholz (15-8).

“From start to finish, I think this might be the most exciting card we’ve ever put together for NBCSN,” World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo said. “The two championship fights are absolutely incredible, and Sheymon Moraes vs. Gabriel Solorio looks like a fantastic matchup, as well. Now we’re seeing a superstar-in-the-making in Brenson Hansen meet an undefeated challenger looking to build his own name in Josh Berkovic. Then you have top prospect Lewis Gonzalez returning to the World Series of Fighting decagon against a battle-tested fan-favorite in Justin Buchholz.

“I think we’re in for a very special night of fights.”

“World Series of Fighting 16: Palhares vs. Fitch” takes place this Saturday, December 13, at McClellan Conference Center in Sacramento, California. The evening’s NBCSN-broadcast main card kicks off at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT local time) following preliminary bouts that stream on World Series of Fighting’s official website, WSOF.com, at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT local time).

Tickets for the event, which start at just $50, are available at WSOF.com.

Hawaii’s Brenson Hansen now lives in Las Vegas and trains at the world-famous Xtreme Couture camp. Just 25 years old, Hansen has already compiled a 3-1 record fighting for World Series of Fighting, debuting with a spectacular flying-knee knockout of Tom Marcellino before bookending victories over Boostayre Nefarios and Josh Montalvo around a contentious split-decision loss to Freddy Assuncao.

Meanwhile, the undefeated Josh Berkovic is fresh off his stint as a coach of Team Melendez on “The Ultimate Fighter 20: A Champion Will Be Crowned.” A California native, Berkovic fought most recently in February, earning a first-round submission win over gritty veteran Anthony Avila. The result was Berkovic’s third straight first-round finish.

California’s Lewis Gonzalez is one of the most talented featherweight prospects on the World Series of Fighting roster who opened his professional career with nine consecutive wins, including an upset of Antonio McKee in his first fight for the promotion. Gonzalez returned in August, where he suffered a knockout loss to Luis Palomino in a thrilling standup war. He now looks to rebound from the first defeat of his career.

Meanwhile, Justin Buchholz will enjoy home-field advantage as a key member of Sacramento’s Team Alpha Male. The 31-year-old, who is often seen in the corner of teammates Urijah Faber, T.J. Dillashaw, Chad Mendes, Joseph Benavidez, Danny Castillo and Andre Fili, among others, returns to the cage for the first time since a five-round loss to Clay Collard in September 2013. Prior to the loss, Buchholz had been 6-1 in his previous seven appearances.

The complete lineup for “World Series of Fighting 16: Palhares vs. Fitch” now includes:

MAIN CARD
WSOF Welterweight Champion Rousimar Palhares vs. Jon Fitch
WSOF Featherweight Champion Rick Glenn vs. Lance Palmer
Sheymon Moraes vs. Gabriel Solorio
Josh Berkovic vs. Brenson Hansen
Justin Buchholz vs. Lewis Gonzalez
