BRANCH, GLENN CROWNED NEW WSOF WORLD CHAMPS; AGUILAR DEFENDS TITLE

LAS VEGAS – David Branch (14-3) is World Series of Fighting’s inaugural middleweight champion after submitting Jesse Taylor (27-10) in the first round of their championship fight.

The bout served as the main event of Saturday’s “World Series of Fighting 10: Branch vs. Taylor” event, which took place at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and aired live on NBCSN.

Branch was overcome with emotion after the fight as the Brooklyn, N.Y., resident and former iron worker openly wept as his hand was raised as WSOF’s newest champion. “I came from nothing,” Branch said afterward. “I know that when I was a kid my mom always struggled. There were three of us and sometimes we only had one meal a day.”

Taylor was the first to go on the attack, clinching up and falling to his back to lock in a guillotine choke. But Branch kept himself safe in the hold, forcing Taylor to let go. When Taylor subsequently scrambled up for a better position, Branch instantly locked in the D’Arce choke and cinched it tight. Taylor tried to resist but was forced to tap at the 1:41 mark of the opening round.

In the night’s co-feature, Rick Glenn (14-3) survived a certain finish by armbar to bounce back and score a TKO win at the end of the second frame and unseat former champion Georgi Karakhanyan (23-4).

A heavy favorite in the matchup, Karakhanyan looked strong in the early going, bringing the fight to the floor and moving to his opponent’s back before locking in an armbar that left Glenn’s limb vulnerable. But the Roufusport fighter battled through the hold and somehow survived until the bell.

“When he took my back I could feel him breathing heavy and I was able to land a couple of punches,” Glenn said. “I just stayed on him. I knew coming in he was the big favorite. It’s nice now that I have this belt that I won’t have to worry about calling anyone out.”

He added: “I want to finish fights and I want to put on exciting fights for the fans. I don’t want to leave it in the judges hands and get screwed.”

Things changed dramatically in the second, as Glenn took his opponent to the floor and unleashed a furious ground-and-pound barrage. Karakhanyan was wounded and tried hard to escape but endured a non-stop wave of strikes. He survived until the bell, but when he went to the stool, he revealed he was suffering from broken ribs, and the bout was called off, earning Glenn the title.

World Series of Fighting women’s strawweight champion Jessica Aguilar (18-4) kept firm hold of her belt with a dominant decision win over a tough Emi Fujino (13-8). Aguilar’s crisp boxing scored points from the start, bloodying Fujino’s nose and setting the tone for the remainder of the five-round affair. To Fujino’s credit, she never showed signs of retreat, even when she was locked deep into an arm-triangle choke

“It didn’t go exactly the way I planned, but we still got the hand raised at the end and that’s the most important thing,” Aguilar said. “She was tough. I knew she would be. But I was prepared to go five rounds; I was prepared to go 10 rounds.”

In a lightweight matchup, Luiz Firmino (18-6) earned a hard-fought decision win over highly respected veteran Tyson Griffin (16-8) in a high-paced slugfest. Both fighters fired haymakers on the feet throughout the 15-minute matchup, but Firmino mixed in sharp grappling, as well, working frequently to dominant positions and forcing Griffin to defend potential submissions. The dynamic attack was enough to score him a decision win, 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27.

“I’ve been training so hard for this fight and I was ready. He’s big, as big as me and the same height so I thought it was a good matchup for both of us.”

In the night’s first main-card matchup, Lance Palmer (8-1) rebounded from his failed bid at the World Series of Fighting featherweight title with an impressive first-round win over the previously undefeated Nick LoBosco (7-1). After some early exchanges on the feet, Palmer turned to his wrestling base to bring the fight to the floor. Once there, he offered up non-stop ground-and-pound strikes until he could sink in a rear-naked choke with 45 seconds left in the first round.

“This was a fight I needed coming off the loss to Georgi (Karakhanyan) in my last fight,” Palmer said after the win. “There was a sense of urgency. I wanted to prove I was the dominant fighter in the first round, and I was able to do that and dominate him early.”

In the night’s final preliminary matchup, a heavyweight rivalry fight turned out to be fairly one-sided in nature, as Derrick Mehmen (18-5) cruised to a decision win over Dave Huckaba (21-6). A gritty Huckaba fought hard from start to finish, pumping out a stiff jab throughout the fight. But Mehmen’s speed, coupled with his ability to get the fight to the floor, seemingly at will, allowed him to control the pace and positioning of the contest. Mehmen used short punches and elbows on the floor to batter Huckaba, and at the end of the fight, he was awarded a clearcut decision win with scores of 30-26, 30-25 and 30-27.

Dagestani import Timur Valiev (7-1) made an immediate impact in World Series of Fighting’s bantamweight division, earning a thrilling third-round TKO win over a tough Adam Acquaviva (1-1).

In an early “Fight of the Night” candidate, the two fighters went back and forth in a high-paced affair. But as it wore on, Valiev seemed to settle into a rhythm and unleash a dynamic arsenal of attacks, including punches, kicks and takedowns from all angles. A pinpoint high kick nearly ended the fight in the second before a flying knee did the trick 95 seconds into the third.

Bulgarian middleweight Krasimir Mladenov (11-0) kept his perfect career mark intact, outwrestling Angel DeAnda (11-4) for a decision win. DeAnda showed heart and capable takedown defense throughout the three-round contest, but Mladenov’s second and third efforts routinely brought the fight to the floor, earning him points en route to a decision win, 30-27 on all three cards.

Women’s bantamweight Ashlee Evans-Smith (3-0) earned another win, scoring a third-round finish of a taller Marciea Allen (3-2). Evans-Smith started slow, struggling to navigate the range in the early going. But as the fight wore on, her confidence grew, and Evans-Smith took the fight to the floor. Once there, Allen proved unable to escape, and a non-stop barrage of short punches and elbows forced referee Mark Smith to halt the fight at the 3:01 mark of the final round.

In a lightweight matchup featuring crosstown Las Vegas rivals, Drysdale Jiu-Jitsu’s Jimmy Spicuzza (4-0) earned a unanimous-decision win over Xtreme Couture’ Justin Jaynes (4-2).

In the night’s first fight, Las Vegas’ A.J. Williams (1-0) scored a victory in his professional debut, rocking Utah’s Tanner Cowan (0-1) with an early high kick before finishing him off with punches just 44 seconds into the first round.

UFC FIGHT PASS™ PRESENTS FIGHTOGRAPHY: FRANK MIR

Las Vegas, Nevada – A decade removed from one of the most chaotic endings to any championship fight, UFC FIGHT PASS, the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s digital streaming service, re-examines the June 19, 2004, Frank Mir vs Tim Sylvia bout in the premiere of the new Fightography series.

Available immediately at UFCFIGHTPASS.com, Fightography: Frank Mir gives subscribers the opportunity to watch all of the two-time champion’s 23 fights in the UFC, from Mir’s submission of the night debut vs Roberto Traven at UFC 34 way back in November 2001, right the way through to his UFC 169 loss to Alistair Overeem four months ago.

There is also a newly-created first-person retrospective from Mir himself, reflecting the infamous Sylvia fight where he won the UFC heavyweight title in confused circumstances (preview available here).

Long-time fans will remember that, in the opening minute of the Las Vegas fight, Mir locked in a deep armbar which broke defending champ Sylvia’s right forearm, but the only person in the Mandalay Bay Events Center to realize what had happened was referee Herb Dean.

In the video retrospective, Mir, now 35, said: “You go out there and win the UFC heavyweight belt, and you do something in life that should be a great moment, and everyone is booing. Even (MC) Bruce Buffer was thrown off and announced me as the just winner, and not the new champion. I didn’t get any recognition. It was just a bad moment.”

And worse was to come for Mir. Just months after winning the title, and with a long reign predicted, Mir’s career was almost ended in a motorcycle accident.

Mir recalled: “It took two years before I was seen in the Octagon again, and it wasn’t until my fourth fight back that I could let go (psychologically) and fight like myself. I had a lot of self-doubt for a long time, that’s why winning the title back (at UFC 92) against Minotauro Nogueira was such an emotional moment for me.”

UFC chief content officer Marshall Zelaznik said: “With Fightography, we will take our fans deeper into the DNA of a key fighter or turning point in mixed martial arts history. The Mir vs Sylvia fight remains a talking point amongst fans a decade later, and Frank Mir’s incredible 13-year career in the UFC makes for a perfect premiere of our new Fightography series.”

Zelaznik added: “In addition to providing insightful first-person retrospectives from our fighters, we are also responding to the requests of our subscribers. Our “Ultimate” collections – which feature all the biggest wins of legendary fighters all in one place – remain extremely popular on FIGHT PASS but our subscribers let us know they also wanted to have their favorite fighters entire careers – wins, losses and draws – curated into a single collection. The Fightography series allows us to put all the fights we have in FIGHT PASS’s vast library in career order. In Frank Mir’s case that’s 23 fights, 14 wins, 9 losses and two world title wins.”

And Zelaznik revealed there would be a new Fightography every month and added: “We are developing Fightographies on historic and legendary fighters like Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffin and Kazushi Sakuraba. Plus, in the coming months we will have Fightographies focusing on some of the key turning points in the history of mixed martial arts.”

UFC FIGHT PASS also recently announced it has acquired the rights to stream, live and on-demand, Invicta Fighting Championships, the world’s premiere all-female MMA events. Subscriptions to FIGHT PASS, which includes exclusively live UFC events, exclusively live prelim bouts, access the world’s largest MMA library are available on a month-to-month basis for $9.99, $8.99 for a six-month commitment or just $7.99 for a one-year commitment.

SUPERSTAR IN THE MAKING JARRELL ‘BIG BABY’ MILLER FIGHTING FOR THE NEPHCURE FOUNDATION

BROOKLYN (June 18, 2014)– Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller is a certified two sport threat. A world-class kick boxer who will headline a SPIKE TV main event this weekend, as well as a blue-chip heavyweight prospect who wants to restore excitement to the region in the same manner as fellow Brooklyn natives Riddick Bowe and Mike Tyson.

Along the way, however, the 25-year-old Miller, who is backed by Dmitriy Salita’s Star of David Promotions, knows the importance of giving back, and keeping proper perspective. That’s why he has signed on to be a spokesman for The NephCure Foundation, a non-profit organization which seeks to work on helping develop treatments and potential cures for kidney disease, specifically targeting Nephrotic Syndrome and focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), a cause of Nephrotic syndrome.

The 6-4, 255-pound Miller took time out for kickboxing training for his Glory 17 feature bout against legend Mirk Cro Cop, on Saturday, June 21(9 PM ET, SPIKE TV; from Los Angeles) to speak up about why he’s aligned with NephCure.

“As a professional athlete I feel blessed to fight on television, and I feel responsible to bring awareness to such important issues as kidney disease, as well as to make people aware and to find a cure,” Miller said. “I feel this is my responsibility, and more so since Nephrotic Syndrome is five times more likely to strike African-Americans.”

As a boxing pro, Miller’s primary aim is to build his 9-0-1 (9 KOs) record to the point where he can secure a title shot, and win a world title, which will help restore the reputation of the division which has long lacked American star power. Promoter Salita believes “Big Baby” has all the traits needed to step up to the biggest stages. “I see in him the hand speed, the power, the mobility, the ring smarts…all the traits needed to bring the heavyweight championship to Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller,” Salita said. “He is taking it step by step, and Star of David is proud to be associated with this young superstar to be.”

Miller wants to take care of some unfinished kickboxing business on Saturday, when he brings his 22-1 mark in with the Croatian sensation Cro Cop, who boasts a 22-8 record. They clashed last March, with the Croatian taking a disputed decision. Miller vows to obtain revenge.

Miller has been impressed with the focus and determination of the people affiliated with The NephCure Foundation, the Philly-based non-profit which is the only organization solely committed to seeking a cause and cure for Nephrotic Syndrome and FSGS. He’s asking his rooters to learn more about NephCure, which is comprised of patients, their families and friends, researchers, physicians and other healthcare professionals, and their aim to help science unlock the biological mechanisms that cause these serious conditions and ultimately find a way to cure and prevent them.

Training Camp Quotes From Georgi Karakhanyan, Dave Huckaba and Derrick Mehmen

Georgi Karakhanyan

What are your thoughts and impressions of your next opponent, Rick Glenn?

“He deserves the title shot. He’s 2-0 in the World Series of Fighting. He’s long and lanky with a style like Erik Koch and Anthony Pettis. He has a great coach – Duke Roufus, whom I respect. My last two World Series of Fighting opponents, Waylon Lowe and Lance Palmer, were very tough and so is Rick Glenn. I don’t underestimate him but I’m coming into this fight with lots of confidence.”

Are you making any special preparations for Rick Glenn?

?”I’m just sparring with a lot of tall southpaws. This will be my fourth southpaw opponent and I think I’m a very bad match-up for southpaws because of my roundhouse kicks. I’m unbeaten versus southpaws (3-0).

“I’m going to stay on my game and come up with new things. You know, I don’t want to be a boring fighter; I want to put on an exciting show for the fans. I’ve put an extreme amount of time in this sport and I haven’t fought the way that I expect myself to fight. I keep going to the gym every day to become the fighter I’ve always visualized. I haven’t fought the way I want to fight.”

Where would you rank yourself among the world’s best featherweights?

“For sure Top 10, even Top 5. I’ve faced tougher opponents during my first two fights in World Series of Fighting than some guys in other organizations. I’m willing to take chances and I’m willing to fight all of the top guys to climb up the ladder.”

Mehmen.jpg
Mehmen_3.jpg
Derrick Mehmen quotes & tweets:

“I’ve said it before, you can’t fix stupid,” Mehmen said in one of his tweets. “@Badmanhuckaba the 21st the world will see (how) delusional your really are.”

“After I whoop @BadmanHuckaba a**, who’s next? Might as well set that s*** up @MMAWorldSeries”

“He’s got some power in his hands and he’s a brawler,” said Mehmen, who has never been knocked out. “He doesn’t have a whole lot of technique or anything … but I’m impressed that he’s a tough guy. … He’s got a punchers chance. I’ve got the power, technique and I’m more well-rounded. I can take it to the ground if I want, but I don’t have to take it to the ground. He’s not taking me down. If I do take him down I’m going to dominate him. He’s got nothing for me on the ground, for sure. The only chance he has to win this fight is one lucky punch.”

Dave Huckaba quotes:

“He’s got a big mouth really,” Huckaba said. “He’s badmouthed my family and me. He’s disrespectful to the sport. MMA is a sport of respect, man. It’s a sport of two men doing battle, it’s not about trash talking. He’s just a young kid that doesn’t know any better.

“He’s not even that good of a fighter, man. He’s got an overhand right and grappling and that’s about it.… I’m going to knock him out.”

Huckaba started training at 31 (no BJJ, wrestling, martial arts training prior)

“I mostly train in my garage and I still beat up top-level fighters. I still beat up people from the world’s biggest MMA gyms. There’s no other way to explain my success other than ‘heart’ and putting in the work. I’m just a gifted athlete.”

Slated for action in the tournament are submission aces Dennis “Superman” Hallman (53-14-2, 1 NC) of Yelm, Wash. and Cody “AK Kid” McKenzie (15-4) of Spokane, Wash.; undefeated upstart and 2012 NCAA national wrestling championships runner-up Chris Honeycutt (4-0) of Fresno, Calif.; two-time, one-night tournament winner Brock Larson (37-8) of Brainerd, Minn.; Luigi “The Italian Tank” Fioravanti (24-11) of St. Louis, Mo.; Urijah Faber protégé David “Bulletproof” Mitchell (14-4) of Lower Lake, Calif.; Roan “Jucao” Carneiro (16-9) of Atlanta, Ga.; and Trey “That Just Happened?” Houston (11-2) of Bixby, Okla.

In the tournament reserve matchup, undefeated prospect Marcus “Milk” Sanchez (4-0) of Tulsa will take on Anderson “The Spider” Silva sparring partner Jordan Smith (18-6) of Kaysville, Utah. Training Camp Quotes From Exciting Featherweights Rick Glenn and Nick Lobosco

With only four days until “World Series of Fighting 10: Branch vs. Taylor” takes place at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Saturday, June 21, fighters are putting the finishing touches on their training camps and game plans.

The event will be televised live on NBCSN at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT local time) and features a championship tripleheader topped by a main event of David Branch (13-3) vs. Jesse Taylor (27-9) for World Series of Fighting’s inaugural middleweight title, as well as a co-main event of World Series of Fighting featherweight champion Georgi Karakhanyan (23-3-1) vs. Rick Glenn (14-2).

In the night’s third title fight, the world’s no. 1 ranked women’s strawweight and current World Series of Fighting champion Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (17-4) will defend her belt against Japanese contender Emi “The Kamikaze Angel” Fujino (13-7).

Additionally, the main card will include intense matchups of lightweights Tyson Griffin (16-7) vs. Luiz “Buscape” Firmino (17-6) and featherweights Nick Lobosco (7-0) vs. Lance Palmer (7-1).

Rick Glenn

Rick Glenn is an aggressive 25-year-old striker from Iowa, who now lives and trains in Milwaukee with standup wizard Duke Roufus at the Roufusport MMA academy. At 6-feet tall, he looks to use his reach on Saturday to defeat Karakhanyan.

on training with Anthony Pettis:

“Anthony is a weight class above me, he’s got the UFC belt and I’ve been training with him for three years now. Heck yeah, training with Anthony helps my confidence a lot.”

Rick Glenn’s thoughts about Georgi Karakhanyan:

“He’s really athletic and well-rounded. Seems like a respectful guy. I’m going to beat him by staying sharp, don’t make mistakes and take it to him. I’m going for the finish.”

“Growing up my dad always told me, ‘It’s either you or them. How bad do you want it? And I want this title really bad. I’m not looking to get my ass kicked.”

Nick Lobosco

Nicky Lobosco is a heavy-handed featherweight fighting with St. Charles MMA in Missouri. The high school wrestling coach made a splash at WSOF 6 when he scored a vicious knockout of Fabio Mello with a head kick and punches. He will take on a very highly regarded prospect in Team Alpha Male fighter, Lance Palmer.

Big Stakes vs. Lance Palmer?

“I’m moving up. Every time I fight I want someone better. This is a chance to prove that I’m The Next Big Thing. I believe I’m world-class caliber and I’m always ready to prove it.

“I’m explosive. I’m pretty athletic and powerful so don’t blink.”

Impressions of Lance Palmer

“He seems like a tough guy, he pushes the pace and comes to fight. His whole team does that. I think he’ll come hard and be aggressive. I’ll just stay ready for everything.

“Wherever I see an opening is where I go. If I see an opening on the ground then I’ll take it there. If I see someone is uncomfortable standing then I’ll keep it standing. I do whatever it takes to win big. But I don’t do stupid stuff. A knockout in the 15th minute is the same as a knockout in the first minute. A knockout is a knockout. I’m going to take my time and I’m going to find an opening.

“There isn’t any bad blood between us. He’s focused on getting ready and I’m focused on getting ready. I’m not a big trash-talker; you can say whatever you want but at the end of the day you’ve got to fight, so it doesn’t really matter. Somebody could call me out, tell me I look stupid or act stupid, but I don’t really care.”

Big Name Gyms

“?There’s nothing wrong with being at a big name gym. Everyone has their own style and me training here in Missouri is my style. I’ve trained at big name gyms – in fact a few years back I helped Dominick Cruz get ready for two of his camps and it was awesome. I loved being around those guys and the camaraderie was great. But it depends on you personality … and I’m comfortable working with my people.

“When I box, I don’t box with MMA guys, I box with professional boxers. When I wrestle, I wrestle with a guy that is 7th in the nation in judo and a wrestler who competes internationally. I don’t practice with guys who just do MMA. I practice each sport ‘as is’ and I practice with people that focus on those individual sports. And that’s to my advantage and why I do what I do.”

Felix, Lane battle for vacant CES MMA title

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (June 17th, 2014) — The good thing about Julian Lane’s drunken rant two years ago on The Ultimate Fighter is it’s helped keep him relevant in a sport where many once-promising prospects find themselves on the side of a milk carton within a few years.

“Everyone wants to fight the douchebag with the Mohawk,” he said.

That includes Providence lightweight Luis Felix, who’ll face Lane for the vacant CES MMA title in the five-round main event of “CES MMA XXIV” scheduled for Friday, June 27th, 2014 at the Twin River Event Center in Lincoln, R.I.

Tickets for “CES MMA XXIV” are on sale now at $40.00, $55.00, $100.00 and $125.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesmma.com or www.twinriver.com or by phone at 401-724-2253/2254. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

A rugged, 5-foot-10 brawler from Mansfield, Ohio with a strong wrestling background, Lane (6-3-1, 1 KO) began his pro career in 2011 with four consecutive wins, including a first-round submission win over Joe Helland at Bellator 66, but he’s more commonly known in mixed martial arts’ circles for his antics on TUF: Team Carwin vs. Team Nelson, the 16th season of the popular reality series.

The video of a visibly intoxicated Lane trying to initiate a fight with teammate Dom Waters before breaking down in tears quickly went viral, as did Lane’s now infamous cries of, “Let me bang, bro!” to his other teammate Michael Hill, who tried to play peacemaker.

Lane lost his only fight that season and never got a contract offer from the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC), but while most reality TV misfits disappear once their 15 minutes of fame expire (e.g., Angelina from Jersey Shore), Lane has achieved remarkable sustainability in a world where fighters come and go like seasons.

“I got a little drunk and acted crazy,” Lane admits, “but that shit happens everyday out here.

“I’m sure people judge me based off of that, but I’ve had no problem getting fights. It’s publicity. That’s the way I look at it. The whole world knows who I am. It got my name out there and gave me exposure, whether it’s good or bad. I just take it for what it is.”

Lane insists he’s a different fighter — and a different person — than the one audiences caught a glimpse of on TUF, and while his appearance on the show didn’t pay immediate dividends, not getting the call at such a young age (just 23 at the time) might’ve been a blessing in disguise.

“That was only my first year as a pro,” Lane recalled. “I feel like I kind of got ahead of myself, but everything happens for a reason. I didn’t get the ticket to the UFC, but maybe I would’ve gotten there and lost three fights. Now I have time to prepare, so when I do get there I’ll be ready.”

Like everyone else in the MMA world, Felix (11-7, 4 KOs) has seen the video of Lane’s meltdown on TUF and heard all the jokes, but what happened on the show has nothing to do with how Felix is preparing for the fight on the 27th.

After knocking out 63-fight veteran and former UFC standout Drew Fickett in March, Felix is another step closer to punching his own ticket to the big show in his seventh year as a pro, meaning every fight is bigger than the last.

“Nothing you do outside of fighting and training really comes into play once the fight starts,” Felix said. “No matter how crazy you act, or pretend to be, or how nice some guys might be outside of the cage, it doesn’t play into what you do once you’re inside that cage.

“I don’t judge him based on what he did on the show. That’s more for the general public to enjoy.”

Felix himself is a prime example of why one should never judge a book by its cover. Outside the cage, Felix is polite and relaxed, a humble, jovial star in a sport often overflowing with redundant machismo and arrogance, but once the bell rings, he’s all business, tenacious and unrelenting in dissecting his opponent.

What’s even more impressive is Felix’s self-described ability to “flip the switch” when the pressure’s on. In addition to Fickett, the Providence native has also beaten former TUF alumni Marc Stevens and Joe Proctor, cementing his status as the type of fighter who saves his best for the sport’s biggest stage.

“I can’t speak for everyone, but the cage is my comfort zone,” Felix said, “and my current fight is always the biggest one. I like it. I enjoy that pressure. I thrive off it.

“It actually brings out a better fighter in me knowing how big the fight is. At times, I’ve fought down to the level of my competition. All these fights against guys who are supposed to be better than me, it’s a mental thing. That’s why I enjoy it.”

Though he admits he doesn’t pay too much attention to video, Felix has browsed the Lane library to get an idea of what he should expect on the 27th.

“When I see his style, I think of him more as a brawler,” Felix said. “He’s a tough kid. He can take a punch. Who knows what I’ll see from him that day. There have been times where I haven’t looked that great myself, so I can’t judge him off that.”

Lane shares Felix’s general disinterest in studying video — “Game plans usually don’t work out how they’re supposed to,” he said — but he watched enough to pick up on some of Felix’s tendencies, particularly his use of the southpaw stance despite being a right-handed fighter.

“That means all of his power is in his right,” Lane said, “so I don’t have to worry about his straight left.”

While Felix is often lauded for his exemplary high-school wrestling background, Lane notes that he, too, exceled on the mat as a teenager, wrestling in more than 800 matches.

“A lot of guys don’t know that I’m a wrestler,” he said. “I love fighting wrestlers, especially ones who like to stand up. Once they get hit, they resort to their wrestling, and that’s what I like. I like to stand and bang. If they want to wrestle, that’s their mistake.”

Felix and Lane fighting one another for a title next Friday proves there are second chances in mixed martial arts. Both fighters have made their share of mistakes. Lane’s have been well documented, but Felix dealt with his on his own, learning to treat the sport as a career instead of just a hobby and fighting with a renewed sense of purpose.

They’re both chasing the same dream, and one of them will move another step closer on the 27th.

“I’m ready to get this belt,” Lane said, “and hopefully get my ticket to the UFC, too.”

“I’m preparing myself to face the best he has to offer come fight night,” Felix added. “I have to prepare myself the same way.”

The undercard of “CES MMA XXIV” features the Twin River debut of UFC vet Ricardo Funch (8-4, 4 KOs) of Ludlow, Mass., who’ll face welterweight Brett Oteri (12-5, 1 KO) of Dedham, Mass.; and the return of Providence heavyweight Greg Rebello (17-5, 9 KOs), who’ll take on Kennesaw, Ga., native Aaron Johnson (12-8, 1 KO).

Also on the card, East Providence, R.I., vet Dinis Paiva (4-5, 1 KO) faces Joe Cushman (11-5, 3 KOs) of Bridgewater, Mass., in a featherweight bout; lightweight Andres Jeudi (6-2, 2 KOs) of Dorchester, Mass., battles Framingham, Mass., vet Saul Almeida (15-5); and female flyweight sensation Kaline Medeiros (2-3, 1 KO) of Fall River, Mass., faces Brigitte Narcise of Fairfield, N.J., in Narcise’s pro debut.

Fan-favorite Willie Brown (2-0) of Meriden, Conn., returns to battle J.A. Dudley (6-11) of Plainfield, N.J., in a light heavyweight bout; Providence’s Keenan Raymond (1-0) puts his record on the line against Dorchester featherweight James Murrin (1-0); featherweight Pete Rogers Jr. (1-1, 1 KO) of Norwich, Conn., faces Mike Lamm (0-1) of Newton, Mass.; and Providence vet Joe Reverdes (1-3) returns to battle newcomer Randy Campbell of Elizabeth, N.J., in a bantamweight bout.

World Series of Fighting 10: Branch vs. Taylor conference call Highlights

LAS VEGAS (June 11, 2014) – World Series of Fighting hosted a media conference call in a webinar format on Wednesday, a week before “World Series of Fighting 10: Branch vs. Taylor” is set to take place with three championship fights on the NBCSN-televised main card Saturday, June 21.

Headliners David Branch (13-3) and Jesse Taylor (27-9), as well as main-card competitors Georgi Karakhanyan, Rick Glenn (14-2), and Jessica “Jag” Aguilar (17-4) joined WSOF President Ray Sefo and WSOF Executive Vice President Ali Abdelaziz on the call.

World Series of Fighting 10 will take place on June 21 at Las Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Five main-card bouts air live on NBCSN at 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT local time) and follow an eight-bout preliminary card which will stream live WSOF.com.

The following are highlights from the conference call:

RAY SEFO:

In stacking this card and WSOF 11 with title fights, are you worried about possibly burning out some of your future title matches?

“Absolutely not. We have great talent and all these guys have obviously proven themselves. When we stack up a card it’s because we have the talent to stack up a card. We have the likes of (Jon) Fitch, Justin (Gaethje), Nick Newell, Josh Burkman, and the list goes on and on. These are big names in the sport. Because this is our first NBC mothership fight card it’s only right for us to put some of our top fighters on this card. I believe from Day 1 we have put on amazing cards and we will continue to and get bigger and bigger.”

Is there any decision on where WSOF 12 in August will be held?

“There are a couple of locations right now but we haven’t finalized anything. Obviously we will announce that in the coming weeks. But it will definitely be in the U.S.”

ALI ABDELAZIZ:

“Here we go again with WSOF 10. We have some great fights from top to bottom… This machine is not going to stop. We want to be the best show in the world. We want to be the best MMA show on the planet, and that’s what we’re looking forward to doing.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that Jessica Aguilar is the No. 1 115-pound woman in the world. She’s the complete package and she’s been around the sport for a long time. She’s a true veteran of MMA.”

Is there any idea who would be in line for the winner of the Branch-Taylor fight?

“Yes, if you go by the rankings, most likely the winner of this fight would fight Yushin Okami. This is probably the next matchup but we will have to see. We have a big fight on our hands and I believe both David Branch and Jesse Taylor on June 21 have something to prove because they are fighting for the first-ever World Series of Fighting Middleweight title. I’m sure they are both going to put on a great fight for the fans and I just can’t wait for this fight.”

DAVID BRANCH:

“I’m a fighter that doesn’t have any weakness. I don’t have any holes in my game. Wrestling, jiu-jitsu, striking, cage wrestling. It doesn’t matter. I’m ready for everything. I don’t just prepare for wrestling. That’s how I’ve always prepared. There are some people that have similar styles and so you have to go with something else, but I’m not worried if I have to fight from my back.

“I would love to get the finish (knockout), but I don’t rush anything. If it’s there and I get the opportunity I would definitely take it. There’s no doubt about it. That’s always been my style.

“For me it’s all mental. I’ve had a few holes in my game that I’ve had to change up. I’ve been working hard and I’m a hard worker and I’ve been doing everything possible to sharpen up my game. I think one of the turning points was talking to Dan Gable. He started telling me stuff about my game I really didn’t even know, and it was a really cool talk. From then on I just realized that I a Goddamn beast and I just went out there and started hurting dudes, in training and in fights. I just turned into a completely different person and I just don’t give a damn. When it’s time to go out there it’s time to smash.”

JESSE TAYLOR:

“This title would mean the world to me. I’ve been traveling the globe, and it’s hard to get respect in this sport. I’m going to show my skills next Saturday on this high-level show.

“The last time I fought in Las Vegas was back in the old Ultimate Fighter days. So it’s kind of sentimental and feels like I’ve come full circle. I get another chance and I don’t want to lose out on this second opportunity.”

GEORGI KARAKHANYAN:

“I don’t care about the respect and all of that; I just go in there and fight my fights. I’m just happy that I became the first champion for such a great organization as World Series of Fighting and I’m looking to go out there on June 21 and, like always, putting on an exciting show. I have a very tough opponent in front of me and I’m ready for everything. I can’t wait.”

RICK GLENN:

“This is a huge opportunity. It was unfortunate I wasn’t able to make the fight in December, but thankful that they have given me the opportunity for this fight now so I get my shot. It means the world to me. It sucked to have to back out of a fight and I’ve never had to do that before. It sucked knowing I should be in there and watching (Karakhanyan-Palmer). They are both solid opponents. I’m not really thinking about belts and stuff, and I’m just really looking forward to this fight.”

JESSICA AGUILAR:

Do you feel like you’re the best strawweight fighter in the world?

“Yes, I do. I’ve been in the sport for about eight and a half years now and I’ve fought some top-level contenders and I’ve beaten the best of the best. So at this point I’ve proven myself over and over again and I feel like I’m No. 1 in the world in my weight class. My next goal is to be pound for pound the best female fighter in the world. So I’ll keep proving myself till I get there.

“(Emi Fujino) has fought in all different aspects of MMA. She has fought some of the same opponents as I have… A lot of people don’t know these Japanese fighters. They come out like Samurais. It’s do or die.”

Gentlemen, be on the lookout for “Big Baby” Miller

Jarrell Miller
BROOKLYN (June 11, 2014)– On Saturday, June 21, New York’s Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller will fight Mirko Cro Cop in the main event of the GLORY 17 Los Angeles kickboxing card to air on SPIKE TV, from the Forum in LA.

But Miller, a 260 pounder who is at the top of the ladder in the kickboxing world, wants everyone to know he will continue climbing the ranks in the boxing sphere, as a heavyweight superstar-in-the-making.

Now 9-0, with 9 KOs in the squared circle, Miller is also 22-1 as a kick boxer.

He has some unfinished business with Cro Cop, who he fought back in March 2013. Miller lost a heavily disputed decision; he’s now intent on righting that wrong, and then resetting his sights on the heavyweight championship.

The Brooklyn resident fights for promoter Dmitriy Salitas’ Star of David Promotions on boxing cards. Promoter Salita believes he has a New York talent who can follow in the footsteps of other Brooklyn legends, like Mike Tyson and Riddick Bowe.

“Jarrell fought on my boxing show May 15 and looked spectacular in scoring a second round TKO victory,” Salita said. “We were working on his next fight when we got a call to fight Cro Cop in a rematch. Jarrell hasn’t kick-boxed in awhile and is fully focused on boxing but he has a strong desire to get revenge, so he can focus completely on boxing.”

Miller took part in the Spike “Guys Choice” awards show, which airs on Spike June 11 (9 PM ET), and was in the mix of all the “pandemonium” which will be on display in this celebration of dudes and the chicks they dig. He mixed and mingled with “The Walking Dead” cast, Cheech and Chong, and Kevin Hart, as well as some swimsuit models, he reported. “It was cool stuff!” he said.

After “Big Baby” tosses Cro Cop around like a stuffed animal, he aims to get back to the business of boxing. “I aim to be 15-0 by the end of the year, and to eat at least 300 cheeseburgers before the year is over,” Miller stated, “while having six pack abs! Mmmm, can you say cheeseburger!?”

The charismatic Miller fights Cro Cop (22-8; from Croatia) on June 21 (8 PM ET) in Inglewood, CA.

Check the Star of David website regularly for information on the next action-packed show, including details on Miller’s next appearance on a Salita boxing card.

BOXNATION TO AIR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP KICKBOXING EXTRAVAGANZA ‘ENFUSION LIVE: EDITION 19’ ON JUNE 29TH LIVE FROM LONDON FEATURING ENGLAND’S DANIEL SAM

LONDON (June 9) – BoxNation is delighted to announce that they will be showing the exciting world championship kickboxing event ‘Enfusion Live: Edition 19’, featuring England’s heavyweight world champion Daniel Sam, live and exclusive on June 29th in London.

The venture into the wider world of combat sports comes as an addition to the channel’s world class and unrivalled boxing coverage, which ‘The Channel of Champions’ will continue to deliver to its dedicated subscribers.

However, the agreement with Fighting Spirit – an international leader in the distribution of combat sports television – will see BoxNation widen its horizons as it airs the much anticipated event taking place at The Troxy in London.

The evening will see a host of top class action led by heavyweight hitter and reigning world champion Sam who defends his title against Morocco’s skilled 23-year-old Ismael Lazaar.

Londoner Sam, known as ‘The Warrior’, has earned an enviable reputation as a hard-hitting puncher who is able to deliver flying knees and devastating low kicks that has seen him earn a record of 25 wins in his 35 fights.

Lazaar, though, is the younger man compared to the 32-year-old Sam, and has faced and beaten some formidable names in the likes of The Netherlands Rick van Soest, so has shown he is ready for his shot at the big time.

Further world title action on the night will see the experienced reigning -90kg champion Wendell Roche – who holds the unparalleled record as being the only man to ever defeat kickboxing great Ginty Vrede – put his 90kg belt up for grabs when he battles the incredibly talented Andrew Tate – born in the USA and raised in England – who is more used to fighting in lighter categories and thus delivers fast paced action in the ring.

Ireland’s Chris Cooper faces Adam Hart from England at 95kg in a tremendous grudge fight after Cooper TKO’ed Hart back in December 2013, with ladies action set when the tough Grace Spicer challenges Ferial Ameeroedien of South Africa, with many more enthralling bouts also taking place.

‘Enfusion Live’ is the live format of the world renowned brand Enfusion which started in 2008 with a reality television show, expanding internationally four years later due to its success.

As of 2014, Enfusion produces live world championships, a yearly edition reality television show, and a development league ‘Fighting Rookies’.

‘Enfusion Live’ takes place 12 times a year and travels around Europe promoting premium live events.

“I am very excited to bring Enfusion Live and Fighting Spirit MMA on UK television,” said Sacha Puyssegur, Head of Programs Sales at Fighting Spirit. “The UK is such a great place for combat sports! The country has an endless pool of talented fighters and we are proud to be able to showcase them to their compatriots thanks to our starting relationship with BoxNation.”

Jim McMunn, Managing Director at BoxNation, said: “We are delighted to bring Enfusion Live to our viewers. Boxing will always be at the heart of who we are but when the opportunity arrives to deliver additional top class sporting events then we will take it, and it can only enhance the schedule for our customers.”

Lightweight champion Justin Gaethje and Nick Newell headline “World Series of Fighting 11: Gaethje vs. Newell” live on NBC

LAS VEGAS (June 6, 2014) – Just last week, World Series of Fighting made headlines when promotion officials announced a major partnership renewal with NBC that will see the organization air live events on the major network twice this year – and many more times in years to follow. The promotion’s inaugural NBC-broadcast event, “World Series of Fighting 11: Gaethje vs. Newell” now takes place July 5 at Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.

World Series of Fighting 11 is headlined by a lightweight championship bout with the exciting Justin Gaethje (11-0) putting his belt on the line against the extremely tough and talented “Notorious” Nick Newell (11-0). Also on the card, a highly anticipated welterweight rubber match takes place as we see Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Jon Fitch (25-6-1, 1 NC) take on Josh “The People’s Warrior” Burkman (27-10). Both Fitch and Burkman boast a win over each other, so this bout is for bragging rights.

Additionally, newly signed lightweight Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (31-13-2) debuts against Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante (18-7-1) and Cody “Bam Bam” Bollinger (15-2, 1 NC) faces a dangerous 14-year veteran in Pablo Alfonso (9-5) in an intriguing bantamweight contest.

Tickets for the event start at just $39 and go on sale tomorrow, Saturday, June 7 at Ticketmaster.com or WSOF.com. Doors at the Ocean Center will open to fans at 1 p.m. ET local time, with an NBCSports.com-streamed undercard beginning at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT. The live, NBC-broadcast four-fight main card begins at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT.

On the holiday weekend where we celebrate America’s independence, World Series of Fighting is continuing its tradition of celebrating the men and women who make it all possible. All military members with a valid military I.D. receive two free tickets at the box office the morning of the event, while tickets last.

“We’ve been talking about it for some time now, and we’re thrilled to see all of the pieces falling perfectly into place for our first show on NBC,” said World Series of Fighting President Ray Sefo. “With World Series of Fighting 11 taking place over the holiday weekend in Daytona, the world’s most famous beach, we are anticipating fireworks from the Fourth to continue in the cage. I know that it will be another great night of fights for all of our fans.”

Lightweight champion Justin Gaethje is a member of Colorado’s Grudge Training Center and has already earned World Series of Fighting wins over Rich Patishnock, Dan Lauzon, Brian Cobb and Gesias Cavalcante. Fighting professionally since 2011, the 25-year-old is undefeated in his first 11 career fights, and 10 of those have ended via stoppage, including nine by knockout.

“Notorious” Nick Newell will be challenging Gaethje for his lightweight championship when the cage doors close. The inspirational Newell, who shares an identical record (11-0) with his opponent, last defeated Sabah Fadai at World Series of Fighting 7. It was his second submission victory in as many fights under the World Series of Fighting banner, having previously dispatched of Keon Caldwell at World Series of Fighting 4 with a modified guillotine choke that earned him a top play on ESPN’s SportsCenter.

When Jon Fitch (25-6-1, 1 NC) and Josh Burkman (27-10) met for the second time in their careers at World Series of Fighting 3 event Las Vegas, Burkman was determined to return the favor from when Fitch submitted him with a rear-naked choke seven years earlier. Despite being the underdog going into the fight, Burkman succeeded in a victory that earned him a “Submission of the Year” nomination at the World MMA Awards. Both fighters have earned victories since World Series of Fighting 3, with Burkman scoring an impressive first-round knockout over Tyler Stinson on March 9 and Fitch beating Marcelo Alfaya at World Series of Fighting 6.

Melvin Guillard is well-known as one of the most explosive and dangerous knockout artists in all of combat sports. Fighting professionally since he was just a teenager, Guillard is one of the most athletically gifted strikers in the sport today and is capable of ending any fight in a single punch. Meanwhile, Gesias Cavalcante is a well-respected veteran of the sport who has fought previously for Strikeforce and DREAM and now competes for the fourth time under the World Series of Fighting banner. The 31-year-old Brazilian is 2-1 with the promotion with stoppage victories over T.J. O’Brien and Tyson Griffin, and his only loss in that span came due to a cut against current champ Gaethje.

Bollinger made his promotional debut at World Series of Fighting 8 in January and took a unanimous decision against Tyson Nam, giving him back-to-back wins. Alfonso brings a three-fight winning streak to the bout, including a first-round submission of former WEC champ Miguel Torres at World Series of Fighting 6 this past October.

EDMONTON (June 6, 2014) – World Series of Fighting announced today that they have signed Canada’s top heavyweight mixed martial artist, Smealinho “The Prince” Rama. A fighter of Albanian and Greek descent, Rama now resides in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, “The Prince” is less than two weeks removed from a knockout victory over Tim Hague. Just prior to that, he garnered a lot of attention for his victory over then-undefeated and highly touted Olympic wrestler, Steve Mocco. Rama walked into that fight a heavy underdog against the D-1 wrestling champion, but quickly showed that he was up to the task and used his striking and cardio to take the fight to Mocco, walking away with an impressive unanimous decision victory.

“I’ve been very impressed watching Rama’s career develop,” said WSOF Canada Executive Darren Owen. “He gets better every fight and he’s always looking to finish whether he is looking for the knockout or on his feet or a submission on the ground. A WORLD TITLE SHOT IS ON THE LINE AS ROBBIE LAWLER BATTLES MATT BROWN JULY 26 IN SAN JOSE

Las Vegas, Nevada – UFC® returns to SAP Center at San Jose with a title elimination match pitting two knockout artists against one another as No. 1-ranked Robbie Lawler will take on No. 5-ranked Matt Brown with the winner earning a shot at champion Johny Hendricks. Additionally, the card will feature several Bay Area-based fighters in Josh Thomson, Noad Lahat and Kyle Kingsbury.

Coming off an impressive third-round finish over an always game Jake Ellenberger, Lawler (23-10, 1 NC, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla.) will take on the surging Brown (21-11, fighting out of Columbus, Ohio) in hopes of securing a second crack at UFC gold. Brown, who has put together one of the most impressive runs in mixed martial arts today, currently rides a seven-fight win streak, and will be looking to lock down a title shot he feels is long overdue. On July 26 at SAP Center, two of the best welterweights in the world will put it all on the line in a battle for the top contender position.

In addition, light heavyweight (No. 5) Anthony Johnson (17-4, fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla.) is back in the Octagon® after an impressive decision victory over Phil Davis in his return to the UFC earlier this year. The hard-hitting “Rumble” will take on Brazilian star Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (21-5, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) as he primes himself for title contention. “Lil Nog” makes his return to the cage for the first time since defeating former champion Rashad Evans, and the two-time Brazilian boxing champion plans to tack another win on to his already stellar MMA career.

Also, fresh off a controversial loss to former lightweight champion Benson Henderson, San Jose native (No. 3) Thomson (22-6, 1 NC, fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) will look to put on a show in front of his hometown fans as he meets former The Ultimate Fighter finalist (No. 10) Michael Johnson (16-8, fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla.). “The Menace,” who is riding a three-fight win streak, will look to climb the ladder in the talent-rich lightweight division with a victory over the former STRIKEFORCE® lightweight champion.

Also scheduled for the event:
No.7-ranked featherweight Clay Guida (31-11) vs. four-time “Fight Night” bonus winner and eleventh-ranked Dennis Bermudez (14-3).
Second degree taekwondo black belt Daron Cruickshank (15-4) vs. 14th-ranked Jorge Masvidal (26-8) at lightweight.
Welterweight Tim Means (20-6-1) vs. Rio de Janeiro’s Hernani Perpetuo (17-4, 1 NC).
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Noad Lahat (7-1) vs. California native and fellow submission ace Steven Siler (23-12).

CES champ Font inks deal with UFC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (May 27th, 2014) – The hottest fighter in the northeast and the most promising regional prospect in the featherweight division is taking his talent to new heights.

Rob Font, a Tampa native now living in Boston, Mass., and training out of Sityodtong, has inked a promotional agreement with the Ultimate Fighting Championships (UFC), joining fellow Bostonian John “Doomsday” Howard as the second fighter under the guidance of Rhode Island-based promoter CES MMA to reach a deal with the UFC within the past year.

“Although I’m thankful to all the promotions I’ve fought for, CES has by far provided me with the best platform,” Font said. “Everything about them is top notch. A huge thank you to CES!

“This is a dream come true.”

Font (10-1, 3 KOs), 26, has won nine consecutive fights, the last six under the promotional guidance of CES. The streak includes a first-round knockout win over fellow New EnglanderChris Foster for the then-vacant CES MMA featherweight championship in August of 2013 and another opening-round knockout win over Tristan Johnson in April in the main event of “CES MMA XXIII” at Twin River Casino.

“One of the first questions we ask a fighter is ‘What are you seeking to accomplish in this sport?’ Rob’s answer was simply, ‘To be a UFC champion,’” CES vice president Jimmy Burchfield Jr. said. “Rob has fought everyone we put in front of him. He has seized the opportunity, winning in impressive fashion. We have worked very closely with Team Sityodtong and [Font’s manager] Charles McCarthy of Guardian Sports Group to get Rob to this point. He deserves this opportunity. I am confident that he will make the most of it.”

With a killer instinct in the cage and a strong promotional push behind him, Font is quickly becoming a household name on the nationwide mixed martial arts circuit. Highlights of his win over Johnson were featured on the popular AXS TV series Inside MMA.

He’ll make his UFC debut July 5th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on the undercard of UFC 175, which features the middleweight title bout between Chris Weidmanand Lyoto Machida. The fight will be contested at 135 pounds – Font’s bantamweight debut.

Born in Tampa, Font moved to Boston in 2009 and had zero amateur fights on his record when he first stepped foot inside Mark DellaGrotte’s Sityodtong branch in nearby Somerville. Within two years, Font went from sparring partner to amateur standout before debuting as a professional in December of 2011.

Font’s deal with the UFC comes 10 months after Howard re-signed with the UFC. Howard’s first run lasted two years from 2009 to 2011. He’s 2-1 since returning last July. In between stints with the UFC, Howard went 5-0 with five knockouts under the guidance of CES.

“So many people have helped get me here, so I’m thankful for them,” Font said. “It feels amazing to say we’ve made it to the UFC, but it’s one thing to make it and quite another to remain in the UFC. Needless to say, it’s only the beginning. We have much more work to do.”

UFC® RETURNS TO THE VENETIAN MACAO TO HOST SECOND FIGHT NIGHT OF 2014

ufc_title-belt_206
SINGAPORE – Cementing a commitment to the burgeoning MMA scene in Asia and with Sands China Ltd., The Ultimate Fighting Championship® returns to Cotai Arena in Macao for a second time in 2014, and third overall, on Saturday, August 23 with UFC® Fight Night Macao: Bisping vs. Le.

Headlined by Vietnamese born Cung Le (9-2, fighting out of San Jose, California), the former Strikeforce middleweight champion and legend of combat sports returns to the Octagon for the first time since a dominant knockout of Rich Franklin in the same arena in 2012. After a successful stint coaching and teaching on The Ultimate Fighter China, Le looks to use his impressive arsenal of wrestling, Tae-Kwon-Do, Kung Fu and Sanshou in laying claim to the title of most entertaining fighter of his generation.

Standing in the way will be formidable UFC veteran and The Ultimate Fighter Season 3 champion Michael “The Count” Bisping (25-6, fighting out of Orange County, California by way of Manchester, England). A polarizing figure to fans, no one can dispute Bisping’s skills as he’s racked up three Fight of the Night bonuses and eight TKO victories in his long UFC career. With notable wins over Alan Belcher, Brian Stann and Chris Leben, the one thing that has eluded Bisping has been the UFC belt and a win over Cung Le would show the middleweight division that Bisping is ready to make one more title run.

“We’re excited to announce our return to Macao and the Cotai Arena, a venue that has seen incredible UFC performances over the last two years,” said Mark Fischer, UFC Executive Vice President and Managing Director of Asia. “Sands China Ltd. has proven to be an exceptional partner and visionary in helping us grow the sport of MMA and the UFC brand in South East Asia.”

In addition to the Bisping-Le showdown, two surging welterweights will meet in Macao when the division’s ninth-ranked competitor and Korean born Dong Hyun Kim (19-2-1, 1NC, fighting out of Busan, South Korea) meets the explosive seventh-ranked Hector Lombard (34-4-1, fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla.), who has taken the 170lb. class by storm. Kim, who most recently overwhelmed John Hathaway by KO at the Cotai Arena in March, will look to build on his resume as one of the most accomplished Asian fighters in the UFC with a win over former Judo world champion Lombard.

For additional bouts on the card, please continue to visit UFC.com. All bouts are live and subject to change.
