Added to the previously announced SHOWTIME telecast will be a 10-round featherweight bout featuring former three-division world champion Abner Mares (27-1-1, 14 KOs) against Mexico’s Jose Ramirez (24-3-2, 15 KOs), and opening the live SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING portion of the event at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT will be a 12-round IBF Title Elimination bout between unbeaten Jermall Charlo (19-0, 15 KOs) and Italy’s Lenny Bottai (22-2, 9 KOs).

Headlined by the high-stakes 12-round welterweight matchups between British superstar and former unified super lightweight world champion Amir “King” Khan and former two-division world champion Devon Alexander “The Great,” and featuring the interim WBA Welterweight World Championship 12-round title fight between Keith “One Time” Thurman against Leonard “The Lion” Bundu, the live SHOWTIME event will offer a full night of boxing action.

SHOWTIME EXTREME viewers will also be treated to outstanding live action beginning at 7 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast), with top 154-pound contender Jermell “Iron Man” Charlo(24-0, 11 KOs) putting his unbeaten record on the line in a 10-round bout against Mario Alberto Lozano (28-5, 20 KOs) and undefeated 2012 United States Olympian Errol Spence Jr. (14-0, 11 KOs) taking on longtime contender “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis (24-10-1, 11 KOs) of Greece in an eight-round junior middleweight contest. Plus, the return of former welterweight world champion “Vicious” Victor Ortiz (29-5-2, 22 KOs) against Denver’s Manuel Perez (21-10-1, 4 KOs) will be aired during the SHOWTIME EXTREME telecast.

Facing off against former world champion Abner Mares will beMazatlan, Mexico native Jose Ramirez, (24-3-2, 15 KOs), who can put himself in the running for a world title shot at 126 pounds with a win on Dec. 13. A professional since 2006, the 27-year-old former WBO International Featherweight World Champion is 3-2 in his last five bouts, a stretch that includes a victory over veteran contender Rey Bautista. Ramirez now makes his home in Oxnard, Calif., where he’s put in an intense training camp for the biggest fight of his career.

Former amateur sensation Jermall Charlo (19-0, 15 KOs) of Houston, Texas has made his presence known in the professional game with all but four of his wins coming by way of knockout. The 24-year-old Charlo is ready to continue to make a statement that he is one of the best junior middleweights in the world when he opens the Dec. 13 telecast against Lenny Bottai. His most recent win, a seventh round technical knockout over Norberto Gonzalez in September has given Charlo the drive to close out the year with a victory and head into 2015 with a world championship in his sights.

On a quest to bring a world championship home to Italy, Livorno’s Lenny “Mangusta” Bottai (22-2, 9 KOs) is a seasoned veteran of European rings, where he has won the Italian, IBO International, IBF International, IBF Intercontinental and WBC Mediterranean Junior Middleweight titles. The only thing missing for the 37-year-old warrior is a world title belt and following seven consecutive victories, four by knockout, he can move one step closer to glory should he upend Charlo.

Winner of nine of his last 11 fights, 27-year-old Mario Alberto “Aguila” Lozano (28-5, 22 KOs) will be a stern test for unbeaten Jermell Charlo on Dec. 13 in Las Vegas. A stellar welterweight contender for several years, the Chihuahua, Mexico native is now putting his skills on display at 154 pounds, where he has recently battled respected contenders Vanes Martirosyan and Charles Hatley. But to set the stage for a title run, Lozano must dispatch Charlo from the ranks of the unbeaten and end 2014 with a bang.

2012 U.S. Olympian Errol Spence Jr. (14-0, 11 KOs) has been making a steady climb up the divisional ranks since turning professional. After a shutout win over rugged veteran Ronald Cruz in June and a dominating technical knockout victory over the experienced Noe Bolanos in September, the 24-year-old from Desoto, Texas is primed to take his next big step.

Fresh from his first fight as a professional in his native Greece, a second round knockout of Andrei Staliarchuk in May, Athens’ “Mighty” Mike Arnaoutis (25-10-2, 12 KOs) will see if 2012 U.S. Olympian Errol Spence Jr. has what it takes to move to the next level when they collide. A veteran of nearly 14 years in the pro game, the 35-year-old Arnaoutis has battled the likes of Josesito Lopez, Chris Algieri, Danny Garcia and Victor Ortiz in his career, and he still feels he gas plenty left his as he tackles one of boxing’s brightest prospects.

“ROYAL BATTLE: Khan vs. Alexander,” a 12-round welterweight bout for the WBC Silver Welterweight Title, is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Khan Promotions and The Great Promotions and is sponsored by Corona Extra, AT&T and Mexico – Live It To Believe It! The event will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. and will air on SHOWTIME (9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT). In the co-main event, Keith Thurman defends his interim WBA Welterweight World Title against Leonard Bundu. Additionally, Abner Mares will face Jose Ramirez in a 10-round featherweight bout and opening the telecast, Jermall Charlo will meet Lenny Bottai in a 12-round IBF Junior Middleweight Title eliminator. The SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING telecast will also be available in Spanish via secondary audio programming (SAP). Preliminary bouts will be televised on SHOWTIME EXTREME (7 p.m. ET/PT).

Llanes started boxing at age eight and had 70 amateur fights, losing just four. Highly decorated, Llanes fought in 29 amateur championship fights and lost only twice. As a professional, he has stopped his last four opponents.

GR: “We head out to the track at 5 am for some running. Then sprints. I like spin class too, and that helps me with speed and stamina. Also helps me make weight. To unwind, I stretch a lot. I try to nap and get as much proper rest as I can. But I wasn’t built for ice baths.”

HC: “I enjoy going to the movies, I’m a movie buff! Also, taking spontaneous adventures with my girlfriend Ezra. But I’m always in the gym. I’m a gym rat!”

TD: “I enjoy being with my family, playing with my daughter, going for long walks, and watching movies. I enjoy being relaxed.”

HL: “I’m like the laidback guy. I like spending time with my daughters and my fiancée. I’m too old [laughs]. I don’t really do too much. I’m an old man [laughs].”

EG: “Sleep a lot. Watch movies. Regular stuff. Spend time with my family, especially my newborn daughter.”

ZO: “I’m typically at home. If I have a fight coming up and I’m not at the gym I’ll be at my place watching movies, cooking, taking it easy. Spending time with my family. I’m not a party guy, I just like to be with my family. I enjoy the simple things.”

Q: Your fight is taking place right after Thanksgiving, how are you going to celebrate this year? Are you saving the turkey until after the fight?

GR: “We’ll have a Thanksgiving at my place out here in LA. My sister is going to cook.”

TD: “I’m saving the turkey for after the fight. I’ll be training hard during that time and staying very focused.”

HL: “I’m just trying to get home and have all of my daughters – my four girls and two stepdaughters – and my fiancée. My holiday will be spent with my family. No turkey!”

EG: “I’ll sneak in a plate or two this week and have a great time with the family. Not worry too much about the fight and then focus the next week.”

ZO: “I’ll be going to my grandfather’s place in Brooklyn on Thursday. He’s 97 years old, so I’m always happy to spend as much time with him as I can. I won’t be enjoying everything, but I’ll have some turkey and salad though.”

Q: What are your favorite holiday traditions?

GR: “Christmas is one of my absolute favorite holidays, and New Years is a close second.”

JDLR: “I just love being with my family, wife and kids. Doesn’t get any better than that.”

TD: “The holidays in Puerto Rico are the best. Lots of authentic side dishes are made and I enjoy eating all of them. I also love to run in the holiday cold weather, which is amazing. Christmas Eve is my favorite time of the year where all my family gets together.”

HL: “It would have to be Christmas. Growing up, Christmas was good, but we got the things we needed. The one thing I’ve learned, since my dad was never around, I try to be there as much as I can for my kids and put a smile on their face. I want to make sure they don’t have to go through what I went through. At the end of the day, to put a smile on their face would be the best tradition.”

EG: “Getting everyone in the family together and reminiscing about old times. Spending the time together that we normally don’t get.”

ZO: “There’s nothing particular. It’s really the routine of seeing my grandfather. And my grandfather always gets the biggest one, and I get the little one. Every year that’s the tradition. I like to help my family cook too. I know how to cook Puerto Rican food so I’m helping out with that too.”

Q: What is your favorite Thanksgiving side dish?

GR: “I’ve definitely got to have rice and beans being Puerto Rican. There’s also a drink called coquito that’s Puerto Rican rum with coconut, cinnamon and carnation milk, but none of that before the fight.”

HC: “My favorite food for thanksgiving is the honey ham! Can’t get enough of it!”

JDLR: “That’s a tough one… ‘All of them’ is not a straight answer so I’ll say stuffing.”

TD: “That’s a tough question because the principal plate served during a traditional Puerto Rican dinner is served with everything. I mean a plate with pigeon peas & rice, potato salad, pickled green bananas, pork or turkey, Yucca, fried honey bananas, macaroni salad, candied yams, and many more.”

HL: “I won’t lie, I really don’t have one, but one of my favorite foods is lasagna! [laughs]”

EG: “I’m going to cheat here. I like yams, collard greens, macaroni, rice and beans. But with the fight around the corner I’ll take it a little easy.”

ZO: “Rice, beans and pork with some potato salad.”

Q: What are you thankful for in 2014?

DL: “I’m thankful I’m healthy and my kids are healthy. To be able to fight on December 6. I like simple things, and I put in the hard work to get here and I’m thankful for where I’m at.”

GR: “I’m thankful for the opportunity that I have right now. Headlining on HBO. Thankful for my health too. There’s lots of people aren’t fortunate enough to have that, so I’m blessed.”

HC: “I’m thankful for my loved ones, they’re always there for me in everyday. My girlfriend, who I recently purchased a house with. My brother and father who are always there for me, in and out of the ring! All my family, all of my fans, and last but not least this great opportunity that Golden Boy has given me to fulfill my childhood dreams!”

JDLR: “My family and to finally be back active in boxing. I’ve gotten, now 2 great opportunities. I’m very thankful for that.”

TD: “I’m always thankful for the blessings God has given me and the wonderful family and friends that I have.”

HL: “I’m thankful for my family – my kids, my fiancée. Just having them around. I’m comfortable. I feel secure. At the end of the day, people don’t really know how much family means to me. Family is big to me. With all I went through in life and in the past year, to have my family with my fiancée and my kids, that’s a big thing for me. This is a chapter in my life I’m looking forward to, especially this [upcoming] year, because I’m getting married.”

EG: “The most important thing is my daughter, I’m most thankful for her. And also getting the opportunity to go back into the ring and reconstruct my whole career. I’m ready to end 2014 in the right way.”

ZO: “God and my family are most important. But honestly I’m very thankful for being part of a great promotional company like Golden Boy Promotions. People who work hard for my career and to make sure I’m as successful as possible.”

Brækhus ready for ‘no-show’ Retzke quotes from Oslo

Cecilia Brækhus met with the Norwegian media at a press conference today in Oslo ahead of her WBC, WBA, WBO & IBF Female World Welterweight title defence on Saturday night at the Falconer Hall at the Radisson Blu in Copenhagen.

Notable in her absence was the pound-for-pound queen’s opponent, Jennifer Retzke, who refused to attend the scheduled press conference due to a perceived snub by ‘The First Lady’ when the pair came face-to-face at a shared media day in Berlin.

Brækhus laughed off claims from Team Retzke, who had labelled her a ‘diva’ and ‘disrespectful’ for allegedly refusing to pose for a picture in front of the German challenger’s sponsors.

‘’Her team are completely crazy,’’ said Brækhus. ‘’When I politely declined to take a picture after a long day, I had no idea it would cause this kind of a reaction. I find it funny. I’m not a diva, so for them to say that, makes me laugh.

‘’I’m not one for trash talking, I’ll leave that to my opponents, but what I will say is I’m 100% focused. I believe I’m in a different league to Retzke and I plan to show that on Saturday night!’’

Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’It’s a shame Jennifer felt she was unable to attend today’s press event. However, I’m pleased to announce that Team Retzke will be attending Thursday’s press conference in Copenhagen. I look forward to seeing them there, almost as much as I look forward to seeing Cecilia beat Jennifer on Saturday night!’’

Also presents at today’s press conference were Norwegian prospects Tim Robin Lihaug, Alexander Hagen and Kai Robin Havnaa, who all feature on an action-packed bill in Copenhagen. Lihaug challenges George Beroshvili for the vacant WBO Youth Super Middleweight title, Hagen faces Karel Horejsek and Havnaa makes his professional debut against Tomislav Rudan.

Tickets for the Nordic Fight Night are available via billetnet.dk.

It’s official: Pascal taking on Bolonti; Hyppolite, Butler & Ulysse on PPVundercard

jean-pascal1
MONTREAL (Nov. 25, 2014) — Jean Bédard, the president of InterBox, announced
that the NABF Light Heavyweight Champion, Jean Pascal (29-2-1, 17 KOs), will combat Argentina’s Roberto Bolonti (35-3, 24 KOs), instead of Donovan George (25-4-2, 22 K-.O.) next December 6, at the Bell Centre. This decision was taken after careful consideration following long negotiations with Donovan’s team. Boxing fans will also be thrilled by the undercard, which features locals Shiller Hyppolite (13-1-0, 9 K-.O.), Steven Butler (8- 0-0, 7 K-.O) and Ulysse Jr (4-0-0, 3 K-.O), among others.

Early on in the re-negotiations, InterBox inquired about Bolonti’s interest in going up against Pascal, so Bolonti’s team has been ready from the beginning – only awaiting a positive response from InterBox. The Argentinian, who has been training hard for the last two months, is motivated and looking forward to taking on the considerable challenge.

“There comes a time when negotiations have to stop and you’ve got to move forward. Pascal versus Bolonti was a scenario we’d already considered, and we think it’s the right one. Plus, it’s important for Jean Pascal to fight so he can direct his career,” Bédard explained.

“This time, I was lucky to have a good, long-term training camp for combat outside Argentina,” Bolanti said. “It would have been a shame not to have the opportunity to fight. Although his style is different than Bute’s, Pascal is just as big a challenge for me.”

So, these two fighters who were going to be in the ring with other opponents on the same evening, will – in the end – fight each other in a grand finale at the Bell Centre. Though they lost their respective adversaries, Pascal and Bolonti are both eager to win. Roberto ‘the Beast’ Bolonti comes into the fight with imposing record: 35 wins including 24 by knockout.

A striking undercard

Steven Butler vs. TBA
Never having been beaten, Steven ‘Bang-Bang’ Butler (8-0, 7 KOs) is definitely a rising star in the boxing world. This former Canadian senior champion, who will be in the ninth fight of his career, has been pretty busy since he started professional boxing on March 28 of this year.

Shiller Hyppolite vs. Norbert Nemesapati
‘Batman’ had to pass on his fight scheduled for November 21 in Sorel-Tracy, as his adversary bowed out. Now Montrealers have a chance to see him strut his stuff in the ring; this time against Norbert Nemesapati (15-1, 14 KOs). Shiller has also made it clear he’s gunning to take on Bolonti soon.

Joel Diaz Jr vs. Pedro Navarrete
The protégé of the Jean Pascal Promotions stable, Joel Diaz Jr (17-0, 13 KOs), will weigh-in on Canadiens’ territory for the first time, against Mexico’s Pedro Navarrete (28-19-3, 17 KOs).

Bogdan Dinu vs. Mickael Vieira
The scion of Stéphan Larouche and InterBox, now settled in Montréal with his family, will be concentrating on keeping his perfect record when he goes up against Frenchman Mickael Vieira (14-4, 7 KOs).

Ulysse Jr vs. Lukasz Janik
Poland’s Lukasz Janik (12-7-1, 6 K-O.), having already gone up against Jo Jo Dan, will be fighting the so-far-unbeaten boxer known for his lightning fists: Ulysse Jr (4-0, 3 KOs).

Zewski
InterBox is currently awaiting confirmation that Mikaël Zweski will be at the Bell Centre on December 6, rather than in Vegas.

Dharry started his professional career with two wins, but then ran into a brick wall losing five of his next seven, which included losses to presently undefeated Isander Beauchamp and current WBC world super bantamweight champion Leo Santa Cruz. “It was tough for me” said “I was taking fights on very short notice. A lot of People say I was in tough, but I was not prepared. I felt my career slipping so I stopped taking short notice fight and the wins began to pile up,” thirteen victories in row to be exact, which included impressive wins over Dexter Marques (8-1, 3KOs), Eilon Kedem (11-3-4, 7KOs) and Rudolph Hedge (7-0-3, 2KOs). Now, he must face the biggest fight of his career as a professional when he takes on Nicaraguan champion Jose Rios in a battle for the IBF Inter-continental bantamweight title on Dec 6th at the L.B Scott Auditorium in Philipsburg, Sint Maarten.

It will be a difficult task for Dharry as Rios is a bit of a mystery, having fought only in Nicaragua. “Jose is a tough fighter. I have seen him fight and he is very aggressive,” said Elton Dharry. “My trainer Martin Gonzalez and I have gone over his fights. He is an aggressive fighter that throws a lot of punches. He is the Nicaraguan champion and recently defended his title on October 24th against Frederick Castro, so I am will be in excellent shape. It should be an exciting fight all in attendance.”

Cohen Congratulates Cecil McCalla for Impressive KO Victory Friday Night

Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions is sending out congratulations to his welterweight fighter, Cecil McCalla, of Baltimore, Maryland, for his TKO 1 over Mexico’s Francisco Javier Reza on Friday night at the Chase Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

McCalla (20-0, 7 KOs) came out firing hard punches, especially left hooks, from the opening bell and scored two knockdowns over the tough Mexican. After the second hard knockdown, referee Vic de Wysocki had seen enough and waved the fight off at the :47 mark.

“That is exactly what a future star like Cecil McCalla is supposed to do with his opponents,” said Cohen. “Although I am surprised by how quickly he was able to get Reza out of there.”

For 29-year-old McCalla, the victory over Reza was his fourth fight of 2014, after sitting out most of 2013.

“Cecil is sharper than ever and ready to make his assault on the division’s best. He’s constantly in the gym with his trainer Lee Beard and the combination of his diligent work and staying quite active showed in his performance tonight.”

Cohen says the next step for McCalla will be a bigger, televised fight in the coming year.

49 YEAR OLD HEAVYWEIGHT CONTENDER “BRONCO” BILLY WRIGHT DEFENDED HIS WBC TITLES WITH KNOCKOUT WIN

LAS VEGAS (November 24, 2014) – This past Saturday in Bolivia, WBC #18 heavyweight contender, “Bronco” Billy Wright (46-4, 37 KOs), continued his amazing run of consecutive knockouts, while climbing up the WBC rankings.

Bronco Billy scored with a first round knockout against Juan Carlos Flores-Choque (14-4, 13 KOs), extending his KO streak to 13. Billy Wright who turns 50-years old on December 10, 2015, extended on another streak, winning his 17th consecutive fight in a row.

In the process, Bronco Billy defended his LATIN AMERICAN, FECARBOX, and United States (USNBC) Silver titles, all sanctioned by the WBC. Not wasting any time, Bronco Billy Wright is looking to get back in the ring on Dec, 6, 2015.

“If I’m able to lock down an opponent, I’ll be fighting again on December 6th, said Bronco Billy Wright. “I’m looking to close out the year with another knockout. That will make it five fights in 2014, all wins coming by way of knockout. I’ll turn 50 on December 10th. Going into 2015, I’m confident my WBC ranking will move up. I’m willing to fight any of the top contenders to get me closer to my dream of becoming heavyweight champion. The only problem is none of these guys are willing to fight me. That can all change in 2015. I’m looking to make history.”

At age 49, Bronco Billy Wright is a legitimate figure in the heavyweight division. With his winning streak intact, Wright could be in a major fight with a top contender in 2015.

ALEX SANCHEZ TRAINER CONVINCED HIS FIGHTER CAN BEAT LaMANNA DEC. 13 AT 2300 ARENA IN PHILLY

Philadelphia, PA—Junior middleweight Alex Sanchez gets the fight he has been asking for when he takes on unbeaten Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna in an all-New Jersey battle on Saturday evening, Dec. 13, at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia.

Topping the card are a pair of eight-round fights featuring lightweight Felix Verdejo, of San Juan, Puerto Rico, vs. Karim El Ouazghari, of Barcelona, Spain, and super middleweight Jesse Hart, of Philadelphia, vs. Samuel Miller, of Arboletes, Colombia. Those two matches will be televised as part of Top Rank’s Solo Boxeo Tecate series on UniMas. The delayed telecast will begin at midnight (EST). First of seven prelims begins at 6.45pm.
Sanchez, 31, of Camden, NJ, is only 4-5-1 as a pro with two knockouts, but he claims the road he has traveled has been much harder than the one taken by LaManna, whose 15-0 record includes seven K0s.
“Records don’t mean a thing,” said Martin Diaz, who manages and trains Sanchez. “We’re always the opponent; we never get to pick and choose the kind of guys that LaManna fights. We wanted eight rounds for this fight and 158 pounds but we were forced to settle for six rounds and 160 pounds.
“We also got a lot of bad decisions. Alex beat Fred Jenkins, Jr., nasty for six rounds in March and they gave Jenkins the decision. Why? Favoritism, I guess. Why doesn’t LaManna fight Jenkins? He just gets the right fights to build his record. We never had that luck. Look at the poster for this fight. They have LaManna’s picture on it and they don’t even put Alex’ name on the poster.
“LaManna only fought one solid guy and that was Jamaal Davis in his last fight (Aug. 23) and Davis didn’t really come to fight that night. If he had, he would have won.”
In his last fight Aug. 23 at Bally’s, Sanchez got off the floor in the first round and fought unbeaten Ismael Garcia, of Atlantic City, NJ, to a standstill the rest of the way before losing a six-round decision.
The combined record of Sanchez’ 10 opponents was 42-22-1. Five of the 10 were unbeaten at fight time. Among then is world-rated Tony Harrison, of Detroit, currently 18-0.
The combined record of LaManna’s 15 victims is 74-65-3 and he comes into this fight off the two biggest wins of his career, a pair of eight-round decisions over Ahsandi Gibbs and Davis.
The Dec. 13 fight will be LaManna’s first in Philadelphia. Sanchez has boxed there once previously, a four-round decision earlier this year over Juan Aguirre, of Jacksonville, FL.

ABOUT DECEMBER 13

The Verdejo-Ouazghari and Hart-Miller fights top an eight-bout card at the 2300 Arena. First fight is 6.45 pm. Tickets priced at $50 and $75 are on sale at the offices of Peltz Boxing (215-765-0922) and at Wanamaker’s Tickets (215-568-2400). They also can be purchased on line at www.peltzboxing.com and at www.wanatix.com. UniMas will televise the Verdejo-Ouazghari fight as part of Top Rank’s Solo Boxeo Tecate series. The delayed telecast begins at midnight (EST). The card is being promoted by Top Rank, Peltz Boxing Promotions, Inc., and BAM Boxing. The 2300 Arena, formerly known as the New Alhambra, has hosted consistent professional boxing from 2004 thru 2012 when it was later known as the Asylum Arena. Boxing cards there have been televised by ESPN 2, CN8, Univision and the NBC Sports Network. Fighters who have boxed there include Danny Garcia, Bronco McKart, Omar Sheika, Demetrius Hopkins, Mike Jones, Teon Kennedy, Bryant Jennings, Gabriel Rosado, Jesus Soto-Karass, Ronald Cruz, Israel “Pito” Cardona, Derek Ennis, Steve Cunningham and Edner Cherry.

Fres Oquendo tested positive after WBA heavyweight championship against Ruslan Chagaev in Grozny

As confirmed by the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) and the World Boxing Association (WBA) ring veteran Fres Oquendo tested positive for the prohibited substances tamoxifin and anastrozole at the mandatory test taken after his WBA world heavyweight championship fight against Ruslan Chagaev on July 6th in Grozny (Russia). Oquendo now faces a suspension and will have to pay back his purse according to the bout agreement.

“We will donate that money to a charitable foundation”, says promoter Timur Dugazaev. “The whole circumstances surrounding the fight were very strange. Oquendo refused to travel to Grozny and didn’t show up for the official press conference and public workout. He then asked us to postpone the fight when the ring was already set up. His positive doping test now explains this behaviour. He probably thought that he couldn’t be convicted at a later time. Finally Oquendo and his team tried to blackmail us and ask for more money. And three months after the fight – probably after being informed about the positive testing – they came up with ridiculous claims and spoke badly about Chechnyan President Ramzan Kadyrov and Andrey Ryabinsky even though both men had done their best to make sure that Oquendo and his team had a great time in Grozny. Ramzan Kadyrov and Andrey Ryabinsky are men of honor. To talk about them the way Oquendo’s team did is just disgusting and another proof for their bad character.”
Oquendo also publicly demanded a rematch – a claim that has to be dismissed, of course, after his positive doping test. “Even though it was a close and competitive fight Ruslan Chagaev won fair and square and deserved the decision win. So there has never been a reason for a rematch”, adds Dugazaev. “Now that we know that Oquendo is a cheater there will certainly not be a second chance for him. Doping has no place in professional boxing!”
Maybe the suspension will even end the career of 41-year-old Oquendo. In the meantime WBA heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev has started preparation for his first title defense of his second reign which is supposed to take place in early 2015 in Germany. Details regarding the exact date and opponent will be announced soon.

Results from “Locked n’ Loaded” in Ontario, CA

ORANGE, Calif. (Nov. 23, 2014) – Thompson Boxing Promotions wrapped up its promotional year with a stellar night of boxing highlighted by knockouts in the main and co-main events. Welterweight Artemio Reyes (23-2, 19 KOs) of Colton, Calif. has won nine straight – eight by KO – after knocking out the durable Christopher Degollado (10-4, 8 KOs) of Monterrey, Mex. in the seventh round.

“I knew my punches were having an impact and I felt him getting tired as the rounds wore on,” said the 28-year-old Reyes. “It was only a matter of time before I finished him off.”

Reyes, who has become accustomed to knocking out opponents inside of three rounds, had to work a little harder for this KO win. Degollado had a solid defense and it took Reyes a few rounds to figure out his weaknesses. Reyes pressured Degollado into corners and transitioned well from counter punching to attacking on the inside.

In the co-main event, Jose Roman (19-1-1, 13 KOs), one of the rising talents in the lightweight division, took home his fourth win of the year in the “Locked n’ Loaded” 8-round co-main event. Roman knocked out Jose Luis Ramirez, Jr. (7-2-1, 4 KOs) of Tijuana, Mex. in the third round with a right hook to the head. In the previous round, Roman connected with a left hook that dropped and dazed Ramirez.

“It was important for me to close out the year with a solid win and I did just that,” said the 26-year-old Roman, who lives in Garden Grove, Calif. and trains with Joel Diaz. “I look forward to staying busy next year and can’t wait to fight on another Thompson Boxing card.”

In a fight that was largely fought on the inside, top bantamweight prospect Carlos Carlson (16-0, 10 KOs) of Tijuana, Mex. extended his unbeaten streak by outpointing the veteran Miguel Tamayo (15-10-2, 13 KOs) of Ciudad Obregon, Mex. Scores read 60-54, 59-55, 60-54. Carlson is managed by Roberto Sandoval and trained by Danny Zamora.

Super featherweight Erick Ituarte (9-1-1, 2 KOs) of Santa Ana, Calif. is not known for his overwhelming force, but on Friday night, he peppered Jesus Angulo (3-6, 2 KOs) of Nuevo Laredo, Mex. with a constant flow of heavy punches. Ituarte routinely backed up the taller Angulo and closed the book in the third round with a series of combinations that proved too much for the Mexican-native.

The night started with an excellent back and forth affair between heavyweights Siala Siligoa (2-2, 2 KOs) of San Bernardino, Calif. and Rodney Hernandez (3-1, 2 KOs) of Modesto, Calif. Siligoa, also known as “Mighty Mo,” got the action started early in round one with an overhand right that put Hernandez on his wallet.

Hernandez, however, worked his way back into the fight by pushing forward and landing quality lead rights and left hooks. The judges awarded Hernandez with a unanimous decision win with scores of 38-37 all around.

“Locked n’ Loaded” was presented by Thompson Boxing Promotions and sponsored by Lucas Oil, in association with KCAL 96.7 FM Rocks!, KOLA 99.9 FM, and LATV Networks.

Bellew looking to even the score against Cleverly this Saturday on AWE

HBO Boxing After Dark Weigh-In: Adonis Stevenson vs Tony Bellew
San Diego, CA – November 21, 2014 – On Saturday afternoon, November 22, one of the biggest days in boxing will take place as an eagerly anticipated rematch between former Light Heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly (28-1, 14 KO’s)
and former two-time championship challenger Tony Bellew (22-2-1, 14 KO’s) airs exclusively and live on
AWE.

The 12-round Cruiserweight World Title eliminator bout will originate from the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England and will be broadcast LIVE in the United States on AWE-A Wealth of Entertainment at 1 PM ET / 10 PM PT

On October 15, 2011, Tony Bellew got that match he was clamoring for and that was a world title opportunity with then WBO Light Heavyweight champion Nathan Cleverly. It was a bout that was in the making for sometime as they were both undefeated & Cleverly had what Bellew wanted. It turned personal and the grudge match saw Cleverly eek out a majority decision on a grueling affair.

This Saturday, both who have both since suffered setbacks, will meet again but this time they will compete as Cruiserweights with much on the line.

“It felt like my world had just ended,” said Bellew. “You’ve been in a hard fight, you’ve taken a lot of punches and thrown a lot of punches. It hits you hard. I thought I had done enough and I knew it was a really close fight. We were all waiting for him to announce it, it seemed to take an age and when the referee announced him as the winner, he went mad, jumping around the ring,”said Bellew.

“I don’t class it as a loss, I really don’t I look at my career and I believe I’ve been beaten by one man and that is Adonis Stevenson. I believe at worst in that fight with Cleverly you can give it a draw. If you are going to score that fight and say who the better boxer of these two is, it’s me. If you’re going to ask who landed the harder shots in the fight, it’s me. OK, you can say he wins rounds on little bit of extra work rate, especially the last two, but a 12 round fight isn’t about the last two rounds. Over the whole 12 rounds I was the better boxer, I won six rounds clearly and you can’t deny me that.” continued Bellew of the first encounter.

Because of the rivalry, it was a natural when both moved to Cruisweweight that hostilities would be renewed.

“I’m not really that bothered to tell the truth,” said Bellew. “It’s great boxing in front of your home fans, it’s a fantastic feeling, a buzz. I’ve had both sides of the spectrum. I’ve had 10,000 against me and 10,000 with me and let me tell you, it’s a lot better when you have them on your side. They can help spur you on through the dark moments, because when a fight gets hard, there is going to be dark moments, when you need to show what you are about and what you have got in the tank, they can drag it out of you.”

On July 12, Both Cleverly and Bellew shared a bill and scored knockout wins to set this rematch. After Bellew’s win, he tried to fire the first verbal and psychological at Cleverly.

“I walked over and I gave him a piece of my mind,” said Bellew. “Does he really believe you were a World champion. I don’t think he does. The eyes don’t lie. I have looked into the eyes of a true World champion in Adonis Stevenson. He looks ruthless, looks deadly and looks vicious. Looking into Stevenson’s eyes and looking into Cleverly’s eyes, there’s only one World champion there, and I am not fighting him tonight.”

“He is mentally weak. Any man that is talking about retirement shouldn’t be fighting any more, simple as that. He’s fragile and he’s hiding a lot from people. I win the fight because I am too strong, too powerful and I am technically better than him in everything he does.”

Two co-main events feature two WBA world title bouts. Scott Quigg will make the 5th defense of the WBA Super Bantamweight title against Hidenori Otake of Tokyo, Japan. Also co-featured is two-time Bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell defending the WBA Bantamweight title against Javier Chacon of Argentina..

If that is not enough, then boxing fans are in for a terrific treat as two-time world title challenger George Groves takes on American Denis Douglin. The card also features undefeated British prospect Callum Smith as he sets to battle former world title challenger Nikola Sjekloca. Heavyweight and undefeated 2012 Olympic Gold Medal winner Anthony Joshua takes on 64-fight veteran Michael Sprott.
