DIBELLA ENTERTAINMENT FIGHTERS COMPETE IN SEVEN WORLD TITLE FIGHTS OVER NEXT TWO WEEKENDS

New York, NY (10/19/18) – Over the eight-day stretch beginning on October 20 and ending October 27, eight DiBella Entertainment (DBE) boxers will participate in seven different world title clashes. The bouts will feature belts from all four major sanctioning organizations (IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO) and will take place across three different events and be telecast on two different networks.

The championship clashes begin this Saturday, October 20, at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, when DBE’s Tevin “The American Idol” Farmer (26-4-1, 5 KOs) defends his IBF junior lightweight championship versus #6-rated James Tennyson (22-2, 18 KOs).

Farmer vs. Tennyson will serve as a showcase bout on the DAZN telecast featuring Demetrius Andrade vs. Walter Kautondokwa for the WBO middleweight championship.

In the DAZN co-feature in Boston, DBE’s Cindy Serrano (27-5-3, 10 KOs) will try to wrangle the unified WBA and IBF lightweight championships from Katie Taylor (10-0, 5 KOs). Serrano, the former WBO featherweight champion, is moving up two weight classes for this bout.

Both Farmer vs. Tennyson and Taylor vs. Serrano are being co-promoted with Matchroom Boxing USA.

“Both Tevin Farmer and Cindy Serrano are examples of the power of perseverance,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “They suffered a combined nine losses before winning their first world championship. Now, they can leave the TD Garden with a combined three world titles on Saturday night.”

One week later, on October 27, DiBella Entertainment will promote five different world championship bouts over two shows.

Sergiy “The Technician” Derevyanchenko (12-0, 10 KOs), co-promoted by DBE and Fight Promotions Inc., will get his long awaited crack at the IBF middleweight title when he takes on former champion Danny Jacobs (34-2, 29 KOs) for the vacant championship in the main event of HBO World Championship Boxing, from the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The HBO televised co-feature will showcase DBE’s Yuandale “Money Shot” Evans (20-1, 14 KOs) challenging Alberto Machado (20-0, 16 KOs) for the WBA junior lightweight championship. The Machado vs. Evans bout will be co-promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.

In the opening bout on HBO, Heather “The Heat” Hardy (21-0, 4 KOs) and Shelly “Shelito’s Way” Vincent (23-1, 1 KO), both fighting under the DBE banner, will square off in a rematch of the 2016 Ring Magazine Women’s Fight of the Year (which Hardy won by Majority Decision). This time, the stakes will be even higher with the vacant WBO featherweight championship on the line.

Thirteen hundred miles away from MSG, in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the UNO Lakefront Arena, the DiBella Entertainment stable will look to take a stranglehold on the junior welterweight division in the first round of Season 2 of the World Boxing Super Series, which will be streamed on DAZN.

Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (22-0, 19 KOs), the #1 rated junior welterweight in the world by Ring Magazine and ESPN.com, will defend the WBC Diamond Championship versus former lightweight champion Terry Flanagan (33-1, 13 KOs).

In the co-feature from New Orleans, Ivan “The Beast” Baranchyk (18-0, 11 KOs), co-promoted by Fight Promotions Inc., vies for the vacant IBF junior welterweight championship versus fellow unbeaten contender Anthony Yigit (21-0-1, 7 KOs).

“October 27 will be one of the banner days in the 18-year history of DiBella Entertainment,” said DiBella. “Every championship bout on US television that night will feature at least one DBE fighter. From New York to New Orleans, the strength and championship ability of DBE’s stable will be on display.”

CAOIMHIN READY FOR BIG BRENTWOOD BREAK

Debut making middleweight Caoimhin Agyarko firmly believes he has made the right decision in removing himself from the home comforts of Belfast and swapping it for the leafy environs of Bromley in order to properly kickstart his professional career, which gets underway at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday.

The 21-year-old – who was born in Croydon and is currently residing with family in South Norwood – learned his craft at the Holy Trinity Boxing Club in his home city, but is now being tutored in the professional arts by respected trainer Alan Smith at the thriving iBox Gym in the former Kentish town.

“My plan was always to move away from Belfast once I turned professional, or was seeking to turn pro,” explained Caoimhin, which is pronounced Kee-van . “I think over here there is more sparring, coaching and stuff, so I wanted to get away and get a better opportunity than I would just staying in Belfast.

“I will still be living in Belfast though because I will just be based in Bromley for camps,” he added, before agreeing that working away from home at such a tender age will only increase his mental resolve.

“That is it because nothing in life comes easy and, if you want to do great things, you have to take yourself out of your comfort zone. I always knew from a young age that I would want to get away to make sure there would be no distractions, not that there would be.

“I think taking myself away to London for camps for six to eight weeks at a time will test me mentally and I will be able to focus better and put in the work more than I would back home.

“I do have family here – cousins and my dad – so it is not as hard as people imagine for me.”

It was a guest appearance for the World Series Boxing team, Italia Thunder, that propelled Caoimhin towards taking the professional plunge. Even though the Italians lost the tie 3-2, a fourth round stoppage of Hong Sik Kee Clement set tongues wagging and the Belfast boy ended his amateur tenure in style.

“I had roughly 130-140 amateur fights including all my internationals. To me, my amateur time was not unbelievable, but I had a good amateur career. I won six national titles, including a senior title, which is like winning the ABAs. I won the Ulster Seniors when I was 17 and I have boxed for Ireland 30-40 times, going to the worlds and Europeans.

“My last amateur bout was for the Italia Thunder in the WSB, where I had an unbelievable fight and put on a good performance. I think that fight got me the recognition that I needed.

“I’ve been kept busy for being only 21 and I had a great amateur experience, fighting all over the world and testing myself at elite level.”

Caoimhin suggested that he will bring a bit of everything to the professional ranks and insists that he is much more than just a big punch.

“A lot of people think because I am small and stocky and look big, that I am just a big puncher. It is not the case, I’ve a great boxing brain, I think, and I am good with my footwork and being able to adapt in fights.

“It just depends, everyone has their own style and I would say I am an aggressive counter puncher. I go forward and back and it just depends who my opponent is on the night.

“I have fast hands and I have power. I have a bit of everything and that is why coming to Al was such an easy decision for me because he is such a good coach and I wanted someone who can improve me.

“I know how good I am or how good I can be, but obviously you can always improve and that is what I am looking to do.”
Anthony Yarde will be headlining the Brentwood Centre on October 20th when he faces Argentinian Walter Gabriel Sequeira. World title challenger Gary Corcoran and Johnny Garton will contest the vacant British welterweight title. Zak Chelli and Umar Sadiq will both be putting their young, undefeated records on the line in a super-middleweight contest. Heavyweight Nathan Gorman will also feature along with IBF European Middleweight Champion Joe Mullender on the show televised live on BT Sport.

Remaining tickets are available at the Brentwood Centre box office or via calling the Queensberry Promotions Box Office on 01992845710.

CANELO ALVAREZ RECIEVES RING MAGAZINE MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD TITLE AND POUND-FOR-POUND CHAMPIONSHIP BELT AT INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL IN LOS ANGELES

LOS ANGELES (Oct. 18, 2018): Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) received the Ring Magazine Middleweight World Title and the Pound-For-Pound Championship Belt at the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles. Canelo, who also holds the WBC, WBA, and Lineal Middleweight World Titles, will move up to 168 pounds to challenge Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for his WBA Super Middleweight World Title in a 12-round main event on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden and streamed live on DAZN.

Below is what today’s participants had to say at the event:

CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion:

“I want to thank God, my team and my family. I want to thank Golden Boy as well. Having a belt like this is a responsibility, and this is a responsibility that I plan to undertake. I never imagined that my success would reach this magnitude. This just shows that with discipline, hard work and love for the sport, one can achieve anything. A lot has changed in one year. It’s been a big change. I’m going to defend this title with honor. See you all on December 15.”

OSCAR DE LA HOYA, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions:

“The Ring Magazine World Title is the most prestigious title in boxing. In order to earn it, the top two fighters in the division have to fight. The pound-four-pound belt has been held by great fighters. Bernard Hopkins had it. Pernell Whitaker had it. I had it, and now Canelo Alvarez has it. We are very proud of his accomplishments.”

DOUG FISCHER, Editor-in-Chief at Ring Magazine,

“The lineage of the Ring Magazine Championship belt goes back to Jack Dempsey. The greatest fighters of every era held the Ring Magazine Title. The pound-for-pound title was created in 1993, and it was presented to Pernell Whitaker after his controversial draw against Julio Cesar Chavez, Sr. This is brilliant company that Canelo joins. The belt was with Whitaker, Oscar De La Hoya, Roy Jones, Jr. and Bernard Hopkins.”

Canelo vs. Fielding is a 12-round fight for the WBA Super Middleweight World
Title presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Matchroom Boxing. The event is sponsored by Tecate, “THE OFFICIAL BEER OF BOXING,” and Hennessy “Never Stop. Big Deal: It is a long shot, but Canelo has a chance at becoming boxing’s richest ever

By Norm Frauenheim-

It’s a huge bet on one fighter. That also makes it oh-so risky. But give DAZN, a global streaming service, credit for its courage. It made the investment, doubling down with a $365-million wager on Canelo Alvarez.

It was announced Wednesday as an 11-fight, five-year deal. In boxing terms, that’s an eternity, meaning time enough for the infinite variety of busted noses, broken hands and all of the other unforeseen circumstances that postpone opening bells and interrupt careers.

If all goes according to plan, Canelo will be 33-years-old and much richer than he is already when the astonishing deal ends in 2023.

The contract has been called the richest in sports. As of today, I guess it is. That could change with the next big deal in baseball, international soccer or auto racing. Let’s just say it has the potential to be one of the biggest ever. The last biggie was the Showtime/CBS deal with Floyd Mayweather Jr. That one was for six fights over 30 months.

At the per-fight level, Canelo’s deal is worth more than Mayweather’s. Canelo is guaranteed more than $33 million — $33,181,818.20 to be exact — for each bout, starting at a new weight, super-middle, against somebody named Rocky Fielding on Dec. 15 at New York’s Madison Square Garden

That’s nearly $2 million more per fight than Mayweather’s guarantee of $32 million on a contract valued at $192 million when it was signed in February 2013. The difference for Mayweather’s final take came against Manny Pacquiao in the deal’s fifth fight on May 2015.

He had beaten Robert Guerrero, a young Canelo and Marcos Maidana twice. Before wrapping up the Showtime contract against Andre Berto, his deal spiked in a victory over Pacquiao because of a contract that included profit sharing. His purse multiplied after the pay-per-view passed a threshold. According to varying reports, Mayweather wound up with between $230 and $240 million after all of the PPV’s record receipts were counted.

That means his Showtime contract would paying him between $422 and $432 million before he went on to add to an even bigger payday for one night in a mixed-mess spectacle against the UFC’s Conor McGregor. Mayweather walked away from the Showtime deal with $57 to $67 million more than the announced number in Canelo’s deal.

The presumption is that the DAZN contract also includes a profit-sharing clause that would allow Canelo to earn more if the buys exceed a certain number.

For the fight fan, there’s good news in that. It would seem to dictate at least one fight at middleweight with Gennady Golovkin, who is 0-1-1 against Canelo. They fought to a majority draw last year and Canelo won a majority decision last month. Both were controversial.

Both also were a big draw, including more than one million pay-per-view customers for each. According to various reports, Canelo collected $50 million for each bout.

At that rate, he might have to fight GGG a couple of more times to supplant Mayweather on boxing’s all-time dollar-for-dollar scale, which this week and perhaps in any other week has been a lot more relevant than the pound-for-pound debate.

Murata, Brant, Conlan, and Adorno Ready for Las Vegas Spotlight

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 18, 2018) – There has been a lot of talk about future big-name opponents for WBA middleweight champion Ryota Murata. For now, he’s focused on the task at hand, Saturday’s title defense against Rob “Bravo” Brant at MGM’s Park Theater in Las Vegas.

In the co-feature, Maxim “Mad Max” Dadashev will defend the NABF super lightweight belt against former world champion Antonio DeMarco.

This is what the fighters had to say about Saturday’s card during the final press conference.

Ryota Murata

About potential fights with GGG or Canelo Alvarez

“Everything will happen after the result of this fight, so I’m not thinking ahead. I am looking forward to getting the victory on Saturday.”

“I had a great training camp, and I am going to put everything out in the ring that I trained with. I am very prepared and very confident.”

“I am very thankful for this opportunity, especially to Bob Arum and everyone at Top Rank and the team over at Teiken Promotions.”

Rob Brant

“We knew that Murata would be the challenge of a lifetime being an Olympic gold medalist as well as being a world champion. I knew I’d have to be here early working with {trainer} Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. We’re training specifically for Murata. I feel good. I feel confident.”

On fighting at 160 after fighting at 168 for a brief period

“I feel like this is my natural weight. I feel a lot better at 160 pounds. I did my entire amateur career at 178 pounds at light heavyweight. Then I decided I had to lay off the McDonald’s a little bit and actually train. My body is actually very comfortable at 160, and that’s where I am going to stay at. And it’s where I am going to win my titles.”

Maxim Dadashev

“My opponent is a former WBC champion. Of course, he has really good experience and is a smart fighter. That’s it. But I’m also strong.”

“I am working hard in the gym and am prepared for this fight. I had a good camp and {would like to fight for a world title} as soon as possible.”

Antonio DeMarco

“I’ve been through this before and I’ve seen this before. It’s truly a pleasure to be here.”

“I want to thank Maxim and his management team for taking this fight. I feel good about it. I’m at peace. I’m very comfortable, and I want to become a world champion again.”

Michael Conlan

“It’s my fourth fight of the year, and I plan to have another one after this. It’s a pleasure to be here in Las Vegas. It’s my first time fighting in probably the fight capital of the world at the minute.”

On training with Adam Booth

“It’s been fantastic with Adam. I think now the pen has finally dropped. Everything seems to be falling into place. I know fighters say it all the time, and I get sick of hearing it myself, but it’s definitely the best training camp I’ve had. I feel like I’m becoming more of a complete fighter, and that’s what I want to show on Saturday night. I want to show how advanced my style is now.”

On Olympic nemesis Vladimir Nikitin being on the card

“It would be fantastic to face Vladimir in the professional ranks. I have no ill feelings towards Vladimir. I know it wasn’t his fault, but revenge is something that I want. I have no anger towards him, but I will {fight} him with enjoyment, and I do believe I’ll get the victory when we face each other.”

Joseph Adorno

“They say that this will be the toughest challenge of my career because I will be facing an undefeated fighter and he has a lot of knockouts, just like myself. I am ready for the challenge and I want the bell to sound to continue representing Puerto Rico with a lot of pride.”

Saturday: Yarde-Sequeira to Highlight Afternoon of Boxing on ESPN+

(Oct. 18, 2018) — One of the heaviest hitters in the light heavyweight division, Anthony Yarde, will play the role of headliner on Saturday when he defends the WBO Intercontinental title against Walter Gabriel Sequeira at the Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, England. Yarde-Sequeira highlights a stacked card of boxing that will stream live in the United States beginning at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN + — the new multi-sport, direct-to-consumer subscription streaming service from The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment in conjunction with ESPN.

“I could fight for a world title and win it, but it is about getting to that stage and staying there,” Yarde said. “I had 12 amateur fights and just 16 professional fights, so I am inexperienced. I want 10 years in boxing and I have been professional for three years, so with seven years left, there is no rush.”

In one of the co-feature bouts, former world title challenger Gary Corcoran (18-2, 8 KOs) will battle Johnny Garton (22-1-1, 9 KOs) for the vacant British welterweight title. Corcoran, who fought then-champion Jeff Horn for the WBO welterweight title in December of last year (losing via 11th-round TKO), rebounded with a fifth-round knockout over Victor Ray Ankrah on June 30. Garton, meanwhile, is unbeaten in his last 12 fights.

Popular British middleweight “Smokin” Joe Mullender (10-2, 4 KOs) will return to action after nearly one year away from the ring.

In a super middleweight fight, a pair of unbeatens will match up when Umar Sadiq (3-0, 1 KO) faces Zak Chelli (4-0, 2 KOs). And, in a special heavyweight attraction, Nathan Gorman (13-0, 11 KOs), will look to extend his knockout streak to five in an eight-round clash versus Kamil Sokolowski (5-12-2, 2 KOs).

Yarde (16-0, 15 KOs) has not gone the distance since his second pro fight and has 10 knockouts in the first or second round during his 14-bout knockout streak. A native of the Hackney borough of London, Yarde captured the WBO European light heavyweight crown in July 2017 with a first-round TKO against Richard Baranyi. He has a pair of seventh-round knockout wins in 2018, and in June, he became the first man to stop Dariusz Sek as a pro. Sequeira (21-4, 15 KOs) is riding a four-bout winning streak and has only been knocked out once as a professional.

Pacquiao looking for Broner fight in January

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, Manny Pacquiao is close to a deal to face Adrien Broner on January 19th in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao made the announcement Thursday during an appearance at a news conference in Manila for the non-profit International Sports Promotion Society, which named him an ambassador.

Pacquiao said he would be fighting Broner next, either on Jan. 12 or Jan. 19. The fight, which Pacquiao termed “90 percent” done, would likely take place in Las Vegas. However, a source with knowledge of the deal told ESPN the fight would be Jan. 19, not Jan. 12, though a fight likely wouldn’t be formalized until he settled his tax issues with the U.S. government.

New Orleans, LA (October 18, 2018) New Orleans’ Favorite Son and #1 World Ranked Junior Welterweight Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (22-0, 19 KOs) is wrapping up his training camp just days prior to his highly anticipated 12-round hometown showdown on Saturday, October 27, against former world champion Terry Flanagan (33-1, 13 KOs), of Manchester, England, at the UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans.

While training in Santa Monica, CA, as camp commenced last month, “Under The Hand Wraps” captured Prograis for an outstanding mini-documentary on his gym work in addition to his compelling story surviving Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. The feature can be viewed HERE.

“Regis is not only a great fighter, but a unique and inspiring person that transcends boxing,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Watching him remember Hurricane Katrina is heart-wrenching and well worth watching. Albert Baker and his team at ‘Under The Hand Wraps’ are to be commended for their highly skilled production work.”

Prograis vs. Flanagan is a first-round bout in the World Boxing Super Series Tournament, which will be broadcast by DAZN (DAZN.com) in the United States. Tickets to this historic event, starting at $30, can be purchased by clicking HERE. Doors on the night of the event will open at 6:00 p.m.

Ismael Villarreal Learning and Sharing Life Lessons From Boxing

(Bronx NY): Family and friends of two-time New York Golden Gloves champion and rising prospect Ismael Villarreal finally get a chance to see and support their favorite fighter in a bout close to home. The 21-year-old Bronx native’s next fight takes place in Brooklyn at The Aviator. Villarreal (3-0) will face Travis Nero (1-3, 1 KO) of Norman, Oklahoma.

In addition to training for his next fight, Villarreal is finishing his final semester at Bronx Community College before transferring to a New York area university to earn his bachelor’s degree with the goal of becoming a high school physical education teacher.

Villarreal says he now finds himself in the position of a role model to younger kids at his gym, exactly what he hopes to do as a teacher. “I wasn’t thinking about the youngest kids looking up to me as a role model,” said Villarreal. “It feels good, I can use my platform to motivate those kids in whatever they want to do. I tell them, ‘you can be better than me – aim higher!’

“Being a physical education teacher (in the future), now I feel like I can talk to the older kids on the verge of becoming adults. I know a lot of kids in high school who are struggling. They don’t know who they are, or what they want to be. I was in public high school, I know what it’s like,” said Villarreal.

Villarreal says he is learning plenty of his own lessons as his career progresses, and is happy to take his time. “I’m gaining experience from different fights. I’m in no rush right now.” Villarreal says it helps to avoid technology and social media where young boxers can feel peer pressure.

“People try to influence you to do this and fight this person when you’re not ready. Even if you believe in yourself, there’s always the right place and time to get in the ring. You don’t want to look like a punk. But I ignore that, because that’s what’s best for me,” he explained.

Villarreal looks forward to his fight in Brooklyn, which will allow his family and friends to come see him. “It’s always good to be home. I can have people come and support me. And some of my peers at school, and especially my teachers from high school. They always come to support me.”

Villarreal says he received many congratulations from his teacher fans after his last victory in August in Atlantic City, who were following from home in the Bronx. “They knew I won before I even told them. They texted me congratulations, and I said ‘How did you know!'”

About Barrera-Monaghan: The Saturday, November 3 card, headlined by Sullivan Barrera versus “Irish” Seanie Monaghan as part of the Golden Boy Fight Night series on Facebook, will take place at The Aviator Sports & Events Center in Brooklyn, NY. The event is promoted by Main Events. The action will be streamed live globally on Facebook Watch via the Golden Boy Fight Night Page beginning at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET.

Tickets, priced from $125 to $50 are on sale and available through Eventbrite or by calling or emailing Main Events: 973-200-7050; boxing@mainevents.com.

BOXING AT BRENTWOOD: FINAL PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

ANTHONY YARDE headlines the bill at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday when he defends his WBO Intercontinental Light-Heavyweight title against Argentina’s Walter Gabriel Sequeira.

Wembley traveller Gary Corcoran and Peckham’s Johnny Garton contest the vacant British welterweight title on another top Frank Warren card, live on BT Sport.

Two of Britain’s top super-middleweight prospects Umar Sadiq and Zak Chelli meet over eight rounds. Chelli won a toss of the coin to be in the home corner.

Unbeaten heavyweight prospect Nathan Gorman is also in action.

Here are a selection of quotes from yesterday’s press conference.

FRANK WARREN

“This is part of Anthony’s education moving forward. I am told by his management that Walter fancies the job.

Regarding Frank Buglioni, we offered over £100,000 and he did not want to know. This is about Anthony moving up the rankings.

Johnny Garton and Gary Corcoran are two tremendous competitors and it will be something special. What you see is what you get and it will be a good fight.

Zak and Umar is a pick ‘em and both called for it. Whoever wins will go on quickly and it will not be the end for the loser.

It is tough matching Nathan up. He is one of the most underestimated boxers in Britain and one of the most improved.

The job Ricky Hatton has done is amazing.

If he keeps moving forward, we will see some fight between him and Daniel Dubois next year.

ANTHONY YARDE

I could fight for a world title and win it, but it is about getting to that stage and staying there. I had 12 amateur fights and just 16 professional fights so I am inexperienced.

I want ten years in boxing and I have been professional for three years, so with seven years left there is no rush.

My talent has to be improved in all areas. Boxing is not a sport where you can be at a low level at all.

I’m confident and when you have power like me, it relaxes your nerves.

People complain about my opponents, but Walter is ranked above every other British rival apart from Callum Johnson.

The Joshua Buatsi fight can build. If he is as confident as I am, it is a big event down the line.

WALTER GABRIEL SEQUEIRA

Anthony is a very good boxer, but I am well prepared and cancelled a fight in September to take this.

Anthony has few weaknesses, but I have got a surprise in store on Saturday.

I always face bigger men and this will not be a problem. I have experienced this.

GARY CORCORAN

I have boxed at a way higher level and I am confident of winning. I have better experience and beaten better boys, but I have to show it on the night.

I can either outbox him or have a fight. It is up to me what happens on the night. Either way I beat him.

JOHNNY GARTON

It has been a long road to become mandatory and earn my shot. I have been on small halls fighting 50-50 fights and when I have had to step up, I have won.

I didn’t think I’d make it as a pro and thought I might get to Southern Area level.

Gary is a great fighter. He is very tough and I like him, but that goes out of the window.

We are going to meet head on. To win the British title it would mean the world to me.

ZAK CHELLI

“Umar is basic and simple and like an amateur. His prime was 26 and he is now 30. He just acts like a kid.

UMAR SADIQ

I learned a lot as an amateur and boxed in Olympic Qualifiers, what did he do as an amateur?

I respect every man who will get in the ring. I see videos of him knocking grown men over, but I fail to see what he can do to me.

I am going to outbox him – simple as that.

NATHAN GORMAN

Each round I keep on learning, but winning is the main thing.

I have been sparring Hughie Fury and that is the next best thing to fighting.

Daniel Dubois did what he had to do against Kevin Johnson and got the ten rounds, but there was no offence from Johnson.

Daniel is good at the basics. I am good at the opposite and I am wrong for him. I beat him easily.

BRIT SAVANNAH MARSHALL FACES ARGENTINE CHALLENGE IN SOFIA SHOWDOWN

London, UK – Super-middleweight powerhouse Savannah Marshall will take on the determined, unbeaten Yanina Orozco in a 10 round intercontinental championship bout on the undercard of the ‘Fire & Fury’ event at the Arena Armeec in Sofia, Bulgaria on Saturday 27 October.

The 27-year-old Hartlepool native heads into the fight with a perfect 3-0 record and occupying seventh place in the women’s super-middleweight standings. Her Argentinian opponent also boasts an unbeaten record, although three places separate them in the division’s rankings with Orozco currently in 10th place.

With one unbeaten record sure to fall on the night, Savannah predicts a great fight for the fans. Speaking about her opponent Savannah said: “This is a great match up for me and for the travelling fans. Like me, my opponent is unbeaten so I’m excited to get out there, give it all I’ve got and get the win. There’s a lot at stake.

“I’ve been in camp now for 14 weeks which has felt like a long time. But I’m looking forward to finally getting in the ring and showing what I’ve learnt in that time. All the training will be worth it.”

Savannah trains alongside event headliner Hughie Fury at the Team Fury gym in Bolton under the watchful eye of Hughie’s father and trainer Peter Fury.

“Peter has so much knowledge and I enjoy the way he approaches training us,” said Savannah. “The way we train is all about learning, progressing and constantly moving forward, which has filled me with confidence going into this fight.”

In the main event of the evening, IBF #2-rated heavyweight contender Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev will face Britain’s IBF #3-rated Hughie Fury in a 12-round final elimination bout at the Arena Armeec in Pulev’s hometown of Sofia, Bulgaria. The winner of this bout will become the mandatory challenger for Anthony Joshua’s IBF heavyweight title.

Fans in the UK will be able to watch the fight live on free to air Channel 5.

CONFIDENT HUGHIE FURY WRAPPING UP ‘TORTUROUS’ TRAINING CAMP; ARRIVES IN BULGARIA SATURDAY TO FACE KUBRAT PULEV IN ‘FIRE & FURY’ IBF ELIMINATOR ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 27, IN SOFIA, BULGARIA

(October 18, 2018) Britain’s IBF #5-rated heavyweight contender Hughie Fury is putting the final touches on a “torturous” training camp and, with his team, will arrive in Sofia, Bulgaria, this Saturday.

On Saturday, October 27, Fury (21-1, 11 KOs) will face Kubrat “The Cobra” Pulev (25-1, 13 KOs) in a 12-round elimination bout at the Arena Armeec in Pulev’s hometown of Sofia. The winner that night will become the first in line to face champion Anthony Joshua.

The event, entitled “Fire & Fury” will be presented by Ivaylo Gotzev and John Wirt’s Epic Sports and Entertainment, together with Fury’s promoter, Hennessey Sports, and will be broadcast live in the UK on Channel 5.

“I made a promise to beat Pulev in his own backyard and that’s what I’m going to do,” said a confident Fury. “Nobody else wanted this tough fight. That’s because they’re not future champions. I know what it takes and what you have to do to become the man. I don’t care if I fight Pulev in his own house. He’s in my way of what I want, and he’s got to go.”

Fury and father/trainer Peter Fury have been pushing it to the limit in their Manchester Gym, training twice a day, six days a week for up to three hours per session. But Fury, the current BBBofC British Heavyweight Champion, says all the work will soon be worth it.

“It will all be worth it when my hand is raised,” he continued. “There are no holes in my game right now. I’m at the top of my craft and once Pulev is eliminated, I’ll be coming for Anthony Joshua. He looked vulnerable in his last fight. I’m the one who will capitalize on those vulnerabilities!”

Despite his supreme confidence, defeating Pulev will be no easy feat for 24-year-old Fury. 37-year-old Pulev is one of the most popular athletes in all of Bulgaria, and a former two-time European and IBF International Heavyweight Champion. Pulev’s only career loss came in a challenge for the undisputed heavyweight championship against Wladimir Klitschko in 2014. Britain’s Dillian Whyte and Americans Jarell Miller and Dominic Breazeale all declined to face Pulev before Fury accepted.

“After I walk right into Pulev’s hometown and take him out, something no other heavyweight would even dare to try, everyone is going to be talking about me and Anthony Joshua. I can’t wait to get this job done and move on to the world championship.”

Please click the link for the full audio of the Worldwide Conference Call: http://bit.ly/2NRFkr6

Ticket information for ONE: HEART OF THE LION is available at www.onefc.com.

Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, stated:

“ONE: HEART OF THE LION is trending to be the greatest evening of martial arts in Asian history. Two historic World Champion vs World Champion Super-Bouts are set to take place inside the ONE Championship cage. At the end of the day, it’s the fans who truly emerge as winners, as there should be no shortage of action on 9 November. Singapore will once again play host to a thrilling night of action, led by our favorite ONE Championship superstars.”

“In the main event, Singapore’s very own ‘Unstoppable’ Angela Lee attempts to make history and become the first female mixed martial arts superstar to simultaneously hold two World Title belts. But China’s confident champion, Xiong Jing Nan, looks to foil her plans and retain the title. In the co-main event, a highly-anticipated title unification bout is going down, as reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano Fernandes will face ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion Kevin Belingon in a rematch that has been brewing for the past two years. Both men are hungry to win. It’s going to be an epic clash of wills in both contests. We will also have the latest signee of ONE Championship, Eddie Alvarez, as a special guest at the event.”

Xiong Jing Nan, ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion, stated:

“This title around my waist represents all the hard work I have put into my craft since the very beginning of my career. I have been practicing martial arts since I was a child. It is my passion, my livelihood, and my life. I will do everything in my power to keep the belt. Angela [Lee] is a tremendous fighter and champion, and I respect her as a martial artist. But this is my division and my belt, I will never give it up without a fight. On 9 November, the world will witness history, but I will leave the arena still champion.”

Angela Lee, ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion, stated:

“Becoming a two-division world champion in the sport is something I wanted for so long, but I knew I had to earn it. The time has come to turn that dream into a reality. I am facing an outstanding champion in my next bout, and I am not taking Xiong Jing Nan lightly.”

“I live for challenges, this is why I do what I do, to test myself against the very best in the world. Now I am ready for a new challenge, and entering the strawweight division has lit a fire underneath me. On 9 November, prepare to see a more focused, faster, and stronger Angela Lee. I know the champion has very good striking and grappling skills, but so do I. And I believe I am continuously improving and growing. Everyday I’m working very hard to make sure I am in the best shape of my career. I believe in my team and my coaches, my Dad. I know what’s at stake here and I will do everything that I can to come out the winner. It’s time to make history.”

Bibiano Fernandes, ONE Bantamweight World Champion, stated:

“Kevin Belingon has improved immensely. I have seen him grow as a competitor over the past few years. I know that in our rematch, Kevin will be a completely different fighter. Nevertheless, I am very confident that my skills are enough to beat him again. Yes, he is dangerous, but I will control the pace of this fight and the outcome. I am not taking Kevin Belingon for granted, and I am training harder than ever to make sure that I triumph over his best version yet in Singapore.”

“I have held this World Title for a long time, and I’m not about to give it up now. I am ready to go the full five rounds, but I am also ready to finish the bout by knockout or submission when the opportunity presents itself. Thank you for the welcome in Singapore, thank you for the support. I look forward to putting on a show this 9 November.”

Kevin Belingon, ONE Interim Bantamweight World Champion, stated:

“Fighting in Singapore is almost like fighting in Manila. Thousands of Filipinos are based there, and they never fail to show support when their fellow Filipino is scheduled to compete at a ONE Championship event. It’s an honor and a privilege to showcase my talent on the most prestigious stage of martial arts on 9 November in Singapore.”

“This is the most important bout of my career. I have worked very hard for this. It has taken me years to reach this level, and I have learned so much as a martial artist and as a competitor since I first met Bibiano [Fernandes] in 2016. Since that loss, I have kept my focus on improving my skills and working to erase my weaknesses. Right now, I can confidently say how much I have improved. One of the biggest improvements is my ground game. I know he is a BJJ black belt, I have had the privilege of experiencing his grappling first-hand before. But now, I am better equipped to handle anything he throws at me. I am looking to end matters early, and I vow to become the undisputed ONE Bantamweight World Champion.”

Eddie Alvarez, newly-signed ONE Athlete, stated:

“First and foremost, I want to thank everyone at ONE Championship. I want to thank my coaches, my team and my family. It’s really an exciting time for everyone here. It was a decision well-made. You guys dealt with everything very professionally at ONE, and we appreciate that. I’m looking forward to competing with the best lightweights in the world once again. What really excites me is the idea of capturing my third world title in another major organization. I went all across the world and competed in all of the best promotions in the world, and what I really look forward to is winning a third world championship title in ONE Championship against the best lightweights.”

“My career has brought me all across the globe. I have surveyed the competition, and it looks fierce. I am excited to be able to test my skills against some of ONE Championship’s best talent. This is no doubt a huge move for my career, and I am proud to be able to represent the true authentic values of martial arts. I am a martial artist at heart, and ONE Championship stands for everything that I believe in this sport. It is an honor to join this incredible organization.”

CANELO ALVAREZ VS. ROCKY FIELDING NEW YORK CITY PRESS CONFERENCE QUOTES

NEW YORK CITY (Oct. 17, 2018): WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) and Golden Boy Promotions hosted a press conference today at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden to announce a historic five-year partnership that they have signed with global sports streaming leader DAZN. This exciting partnership begins when Canelo challenges Rocky Fielding(27-1, 15 KOs) for his WBA Super Middleweight World Title in a 12-round main event on Saturday, Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden.

As part of the partnership, Golden Boy Promotions will put on up to 10 high-caliber fight nights per year that will stream live on DAZN beginning in early 2019. This groundbreaking deal with Canelo will be the richest athlete contract in sports history.

The historic deal marks a major change in the boxing landscape, where its biggest stars traditionally fought on pay-per-view. Now, sports fans can view Canelo’s fights and the deep Golden Boy Promotions stable for a low monthly subscription cost. These fights will be available in all DAZN markets, including the United States, Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan.

Below is what today’s participants had to say at the press conference:

CANELO ALVAREZ, WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight World Champion:

“There are no words to describe this. I’m so happy to be able to give great fights for less money. That was the biggest motivation for me when doing this deal. I’m happy about this new alliance with DAZN. I’m also happy to be making history by fighting at Madison Square Garden for the first time.”

“My recovery has been great. The cut is recovering. We haven’t started sparring yet, but we will start soon. We will do more than 50 rounds of sparring like in every camp. This is a new challenge, to be moving up in weight. We’ll see how the weight affects me. He’ll be bigger and maybe even stronger than me. This is a risk that I am taking. I’m entering the comfort zone of the champion, but I’ll take this challenge on because that’s what I need to do to make history in my career. I want to be one of the top ten Mexican fighters to become a three-division world champion.”

ROCKY FIELDING, WBA Super Middleweight World Champion:

“I went to Germany and fought for the world title. People wrote me off and didn’t give me a chance. But I won the world title and it only took me five rounds. I worked my whole life to be on the biggest stages, and now I’m fighting the biggest name in the sport at Madison Square Garden. It is every fighter’s dream. I know Canelo is an elite fighter. But I’m going in there as a champion to defend my title and walk away with the victory.”

JOSE “CHEPO” REYNOSO, Manager and Trainer of Canelo Alvarez:

“I want to tell you all a story. The date was June 24, 1968. I was still a child at that time. Mexico was paralyzed on that date. I remember it. They were attentive at the fact that Mexico had a world title challenger in the division of all divisions, heavyweight. On that night, Manuel “Pulgarcito” Ramos challenged Joe Frazier for the heavyweight title at Madison Square Garden. In the first round, Ramos hurt Frazier, and it looked like our hopes would come true. But in the following round, he was stopped and was badly hurt. The magic ended, and the hope ended. But on that day, I first heard the name of Madison Square Garden, and I will never forget it. Now that I’m here with the pride of Mexico, it is an honor for me.”

EDDY REYNOSO, Manager and Head Trainer of Canelo Alvarez:

“We are very happy about the good news between Golden Boy and DAZN. On December 15 we have another important challenge before us. European boxing has been going strong and moving forward. They have great champions such as Carl Frampton and Anthony Joshua. We know that Fielding is strong and tough, and he’s coming off a streak of good victories. We know it is a big challenge to be moving up to 168 pounds. He is a strong fighter who is well-schooled in the sport of boxing. But we want to make history. We want to let everyone know that Mexican boxing will always be the best.”

JAMIE MOORE, Trainer to Rocky Fielding:

“It’s a privilege to be in such an arena, the Mecca of boxing, Madison Square Garden. It’s privilege to be able to share the ring with a great fighter like Canelo. But I believe I have the right type of fighter with me. He has all the attributed to give Canelo problems. Canelo has never fought at super middleweight and he’s never fought anyone with the size that Rocky Fielding has. Rocky has come along way. He has had setbacks, but they have taken him to where he is today. We will walk away with the victory on Dec. 15.”

ERIC GOMEZ, President of Golden Boy Promotions:

“As we all know, the sport is undergoing an enormous change. We at Golden Boy Promotions have taken a major step forward to adapt to this change. That’s why I’m happy to announce that Golden Boy Promotions and Canelo Alvarez have signed a historic partnership with the leader of sports streaming, DAZN. This is a direct and unprecedented partnership between two major global companies in the sport, Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN. As a Golden Boy fighter, Canelo became the undisputed pay-per-view king. But now Canelo is starting a new era in the sport by having his next 11 fights on this amazing platform.”

JOHN SKIPPER, DAZN Group Executive Chairman:

“Oscar De La Hoya, as a fighter and a promoter, has been the most important figure in the history of boxing on pay-per-view. Right now is the most important fighter on pay-per-view. Canelo has sold 3.6 million buys in his last 3 pay-per-views fights for a total subscription revenue of a quarter of a billion dollars. His next 11 fights will be available exclusively and internationally on DAZN.”

EDDIE HEARN, Managing Director of Matchroom Boxing

“This fight is a wonderful opportunity for Rocky Fielding. He always kept patient. He traveled to Germany to win the world title. He’s always boxed everyone we’ve offered him. This is a golden opportunity for him. He comes in as the defending champion, but he’s also blessed to fight at one of the best arenas in sports history.”

Never Settle.” The event will take place Saturday, December 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and will be streamed live on DAZN.

CANELO ALVAREZ & GOLDEN BOY PROMOTIONS SIGN HISTORIC FIVE-YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH GLOBAL SPORTS STREAMING LEADER DAZN

NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2018 – Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) – the undisputed king of pay-per-view boxing – will usher in a new era in the sport by signing an 11-fight deal with global sports streaming leader DAZN. The journey begins Saturday, Dec. 15 when Canelo makes his first appearance at the historic Madison Square Garden challenging Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for his WBA Super Middleweight World Title. This groundbreaking deal with Canelo will be the richest athlete contract in sports history.

As part of the partnership, Golden Boy Promotions will put on up to 10 high-caliber fight nights per year that will stream live on DAZN beginning in early 2019.

“I’ve always liked a challenge, and this is yet another challenge in my career,”

said Canelo Alvarez.

“Being part of this historic deal will require me to prepare myself even more and offer fans even better performances. At the same time, I am humbled to be selected to lead this new vision for the sport of boxing, which will without a doubt be for the benefit of the fans.”
“This is easily one of the best days in the growing history of Golden Boy Promotions,”

said Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Promotions Chairman and CEO.

“We are committed to making this sport as accessible as possible and at an affordable price for all the fans. My dream has been to make boxing a sport for all. DAZN has the perfect platform to make this dream come true, and with the biggest star in the sport at the helm of this journey, I have no doubts that we will succeed in unimaginable ways.”

“We are thrilled to be exclusive partners with Golden Boy Promotions and Oscar De La Hoya,”

said John Skipper, DAZN Group Executive Chairman.

“By bringing Canelo’s fights to DAZN, we will turn his pay-per-view success into a growth engine for subscribers – a truly transformational moment for our business and the entire industry.”

Alvarez is coming off the biggest win of his career in September, a thrilling majority decision victory against Gennady “GGG” Golovkin to become the WBC, WBA, Lineal and Ring Magazine Middleweight champion. His 50-win career also boasts victories over Miguel Cotto, Amir “King” Khan, Erislandy “The American Dream” Lara, Austin “No Doubt” Trout, Sugar Shane Mosley, among many others. Now Alvarez will seek to join a small and illustrious list of three-division world champions from Mexico as he steps up to 168 pounds to challenge Fielding.

DAZN burst on to the scene just over two years ago, debuting in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Japan. Its early success across Europe and Asia was followed by launches in Canada (2017), Italy (2018) and the United States (2018), where DAZN announced blockbuster deals with Matchroom Boxing and Bellator MMA to deliver a stacked slate of fight sports content upon entry into the market.

The DAZN-Golden Boy deal includes a large production element, which places Oscar De La Hoya as Executive Producer of the 12 live fight nights annually. The live productions will be a collaboration between DAZN and Golden Boy Media and Entertainment, De La Hoya’s in-house production arm, and will push the boundaries of traditional boxing shows by incorporating new features with virtual graphics and social media interaction.

Oscar De La Hoya’s 7,000-hour library of fights spanning his career as a boxer and a promoter are included in the partnership and these classic bouts will be available on DAZN. Additionally, Golden Boy Media and Entertainment will produce volumes of shoulder programs for the DAZN platform, including live studio shows such as “Between the Ropes” and its award winning “Mano a Mano.” De La Hoya has had a vision for the sport of boxing, and part and parcel to that vision are new approaches to telling the stories of the fighters for a global audience through live, scripted and social media programming. The new partnership between DAZN and Golden Boy allow this vision to flourish and to create narratives that appeal across demographic categories worldwide.

Isaac “Royal Storm” Dogboe will make the second defense of his WBO junior featherweight title against the hard-hitting Emanuel Navarrete as the co-feature to the previously announced Vasiliy Lomachenko-Jose Pedraza lightweight unification bout at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Lomachenko-Pedraza and Dogboe-Navarrete will headline a special edition of Top Rank on ESPN at 9 p.m. ET, which will follow the 84th Annual Heisman Memorial Trophy Presentation.

Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Madison Square Garden, tickets for this world championship event are on sale now. “Put me among the best, and you’ll see the best of Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe,” Dogboe said. “We love the New York crowd. That’s what will motivate us and make us fight harder. Madison Square Garden is a legendary place. It’s a place where many fighters were made. Lomachenko and Pedraza are great fighters and being featured on a show with other great fighters is an honor. We are ready to roll. And to my fans, trust me, the ‘Royal Storm’ is coming to entertain!”

“Many boxers come and go like the common cold, but Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe is here to stay,” said Paul Dogboe, Isaac’s father and trainer. “This is it. New York, here we come!”

“This is the opportunity I was waiting for. I have a lot of respect for Isaac Dogboe, but this title will be mine,” Navarrete said. “I feel very happy and motivated by this opportunity, even more, because of fighting in New York City. I know that from Dec. 8 forward, the name Emanuel Navarrete will be known all around the world. I’m sure this win will be mine.”

Dogboe (20-0, 14 KOs) has emerged in 2018 with a trio of victories that has him on the shortlist for Fighter of the Year honors. He opened his 2018 campaign Jan. 5 with a fifth-round TKO against Cesar Juarez to win the interim WBO world title. Dogboe dethroned world champion Jessie Magdaleno on April 28 in Philadelphia, recovering from a first-round knockdown to batter Magdaleno en route to an 11-round stoppage. In his first title defense, Aug. 25 in Glendale, Ariz., Dogboe knocked out the normally durable Hidenori Otake in the opening round.

Navarrete (25-1, 22 KOs), a 23-year-old from Mexico City, is one of the 122-pound division’s heaviest hitters. He has won 20 consecutive bouts since a four-round decision loss and is riding an eight-fight knockout streak. In his last bout, June 2 in Monterrey, Mexico, he knocked out Jose Sanmartin in the 12th round of a brutal battle.

DUBOIS: I’LL BE WATCHING GORMAN

DANIEL DUBOIS insists the time is getting closer for a showdown with arch domestic rival, Nathan Gorman.

A mouthwatering clash between two of the best heavyweight prospects in the world is one to look forward to.

Gorman’s trainer Ricky Hatton revealed earlier this week that his man is desperate to face his former sparring partner and GB amateur team-mate.

Dubois who has won all nine professional fights, eight by KO, is also keen adding: “Me and Gorman is a good a fight and I want to have that fight when the time is right.

“A few fights down the line we can have that fight, definitely. It sounds a great fight.

“I haven’t been keeping up with what he is saying about us fighting, but it seems the case is that he is talking it up.”

Hatton hoped that Dubois would be ringside at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday (October 20) to see unbeaten Gorman bid for his 14th consecutive professional win.

Instead Dubois will be tuned into BT Sport watching his biggest rival, right now.

The Londoner who is back in the gym on Monday following his win over Kevin Johnson earlier this month said: “I am having some time off just chilling at home.

“I will watch Gorman’s fight at home on Saturday night.”

Dubois was taken the distance for the first time in his career by former world title challenger Johnson in a great learning fight in Leicester against the American survivor.

“I was prepared for ten rounds and that is in the bank. It is another box ticked,” said 21-year-old Dubois

“I have done it. It is gruelling doing ten rounds and now we move on.

“I have just got to improve. There are things to work on when I go back in the gym and I also have to work on strategy.

“The biggest thing I learnt from the Johnson was that I have to stay focused for the whole round and be prepared for anything. He gave me a good workout.

“I could have been more focused and on it, but I never really switched off.”

Against Esquivel, however, he will be in tough. The Mexican veteran is a 12-year professional and a former NABF, WBC Continental Americas, WBC Youth Intercontinental, WBC FECOMBOX, and WBC Silver Bantamweight Champion.

“I’m happy to be fighting in Detroit in front of my hometown fans!” said an excited O’Quinn. “I look forward to scoring another impressive victory and putting Detroit on the map as one of the best fight cities in the world.”

O’Quinn’s promoter, Dmitriy Salita, says he’s expecting a lot from his 23-year-old prospect in this fight.

“Ja’Rico O’Quinn is one of the most accomplished US-born professional prospects in boxing right now. His undefeated professional record and numerous national amateur championships speak for themselves. He is taking on another stern test in a very experienced fighter in front of his hometown fans and I am sure it will be another spectacular performance.”

Tickets for the event are priced between $180-$25 and are available by calling 718.612.5207. The MotorCity Casino Hotel is located at 2901 Grand River in Detroit. On fight night, doors open at 6:30pm and the first bout begins at 7pm. All guests must be at least 21 years of age with valid photo ID.

Canelo signs $365 Million Dollar Deal with DAZN

According to Dan Rafael of espn.com, middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez signed a 5-year. 11-fight, $365 million dollar deal with stream service DAZN.

The contract will kick off on December 15th with Canelo’s fight with super middleweight beltholder Rocky Fielding.

Alvarez’s deal is the richest athlete contract in sports history, eclipsing the 13-year, $325 million agreement that New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton signed in 2014 when he was with the Miami Marlins.

“Canelo is the highest-paid athlete in the world. He’s extremely happy,” Alvarez promoter Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN after Alvarez signed.

“This is only from my hard work,” Alvarez told ESPN shortly after he signed the paperwork. “The most important thing to me was being able to give the fans the opportunity to see me fight without having to pay the $70 or $80 for my fights on pay-per-view. That was the most important thing, more important than what I am making.

“It’s very important for me to give the fans the biggest fights and the most important fights, and I promise you I will always do that. The December fight with Fielding is a dangerous fight. I am moving up in weight, and I don’t know how my body will feel. But I always want to take on challenges, and I am very happy my fans will be able to see me fight for a small cost.”

“Never. I was never worried because I’m very confident in myself,” he said. “I know how important I am to any platform I go to. I am very grateful to HBO and to Showtime for what they did for my career, but I am happy we’re moving forward and that I will be able to fight on a platform that is the future. I’ve always liked a challenge, and this is yet another challenger in my career.

“Being part of this historic deal will require me to prepare myself even more and offer fans even better performances. At the same time, I am humbled to be selected to lead this new vision for the sport of boxing, which will without a doubt be for the benefit of the fans.”

Although Alvarez is the centerpiece of the deal, De La Hoya had leverage to use Alvarez to secure dates and license fees from DAZN for his company’s non-Alvarez events. The deal, for which financial terms were not disclosed, calls for Golden Boy to put on up to 10 “high-caliber fight nights” per year that will stream live on DAZN beginning in early 2019.

Those fights would include Golden Boy’s other top fighters, including junior welterweight and former three-division world titlist Jorge Linares, junior featherweight titlist Rey Vargas, middleweight contender David Lemieux, featherweight contender Joseph Diaz Jr. and junior featherweight contender Diego De La Hoya, as well as junior lightweight Ryan Garcia and junior welterweight Vergil Ortiz Jr., two of boxing’s top prospects.

“This is huge for boxing, huge for Canelo and huge for Golden Boy,” De La Hoya said. “Golden Boy is at the forefront of something very monumental for the sport of boxing.”

“This is easily one of the best days in the growing history of Golden Boy Promotions,” De La Hoya said.

“We were able to reach a conclusion of what Canelo is worth today and what he is worth tomorrow, and we worked out this deal,” De La Hoya said.

Said DAZN’s John Skipper: “We are thrilled to be exclusive partners with Golden Boy Promotions and Oscar De La Hoya. By bringing Canelo’s fights to DAZN, we will turn his pay-per-view success into a growth engine for subscribers — a truly transformational moment for our business and the entire industry.”
