AMERICAN OLYMPIAN CHARLES CONWELL TO APPEAR ON THE RETURN OF BROADWAY BOXING IN NEW YORK

New York, NY (5/9/17) – Charles Conwell, a 2016 United States Olympian, will fight as a professional for the second time on May 18 as part of the special One-Night-Only return of DiBella Entertainment’s Broadway Boxing to New York from the Paramount Theater on the campus of LIU-Brooklyn.

Conwell (1-0, 1 KO) will take on Daniel Szoros (2-1, 2 KOs), of Hungary, in the co-feature. In the main event, local favorite Heather “The Heat” Hardy (19-0, 4 KOs) fights Hungary’s Edina Kiss (14-3, 8 KOs) in a rematch of their March 4 battle.

Fans can receive a 10% discount on tickets now through May 12 or until supplies last by visiting dbe1.com and using promo code USA at checkout.

It is a quick turnaround for Conwell, 19, who knocked out Jeremiah Page (3-4, 2 KOs) in 41 seconds in his professional debut on April 21, at Buffalo Run Resort and Casino in Miami, Oklahoma. Conwell is co-promoted by Tony Holden’s Holden Productions and managed by David McWater’s Split-T Management.

“I am so excited to fight in New York City,” said Conwell. “I will always represent Cleveland and I love the fans in Oklahoma, but New York is a city where stars are born. New York will become a second home for me on way to a world championship.”

“Charles Cowell will be one of the most active prospects in boxing. Tony Holden and I have plans to fight Charles all over this country, but I can’t wait to watch him make a splash in New York on Broadway Boxing,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “This is a United States Olympian and I hope the local fans and boxing media respond accordingly.”

Broadway Boxing returns to New York for the first time since June 2016, on a One-Night-Only basis due to the insurance requirements imposed on boxing promoters by the New York legislature in August of last year.

“The insurance requirements in New York have kept DiBella Entertainment’s flagship series and almost all club shows out of New York for the past year because they just aren’t financially viable,” said DiBella. “But the public clamoring has been too great to ignore; we are going to plant our flag for one night and we hope boxing fans come out and support live boxing featuring homegrown and world class talent.”

Tickets for Broadway Boxing at Paramount Theater at LIU-Brooklyn, promoted by DiBella Entertainment and presented by Nissan of Queens, Azad Watches, OPTYX, and Christos Steak House, are priced at $150 ringside, $85 floor seats and $45 general admission. Tickets can be purchased through Complete Ticket Solutions at 888-612-4191, or by visiting www.dbe1.com or https://tickets.completeticketsolutions.com/DEI/Online/default.asp. Doors open at 7:00pm, with the first bout scheduled for 7:30pm.

World Ranked Super Lightweight Sonny Fredrickson vs. Daniel Montoya

Toledo, OH (May 9, 2017) – Undefeated super lightweight prospect Sonny Fredrickson (16-0, 10 KOs) will be back in action when he takes on Daniel Montoya (11-5, 8 KOs) on Saturday, May 13 at the Eastern Michigan Convocation Center on the campus of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan

The Toledo, Ohio-native, who is now ranked 11th by the WBA, will face Montoya of Reynosa, Mexico, on the heels of his March 4 TKO victory over Osumanu Akaba in a sold-out show at the Hollywood Casino in Columbus, Ohio

“Everything is going well. I have been training hard for this fight. After my last fight, I only took a couple days off, got right back in the gym and this opportunity came up,” said Fredrickson. “I have seen a few videos on Montoya. He has been knocked out in 4 of his 5 losses and I plan on stopping him too. He seems to know what he is doing in there but I don’t know if he has a strong chin. I am training and getting ready for the bigger fights as they come up. Hopefully, I can break into the top 10 and be around 20-0 by the end of 2017.”

Fredrickson’s management team, led by Rick Torres and Mike Leanardi of Victory Sports & Entertainment, are also confident of his chances in the fight. Torres stated:

“Sonny has been developing steadily and continues to improve with each fight. We have very high expectations for Sonny and he continues to exceed those expectations. Now that he is world ranked, we are looking forward to bigger and better opportunities and hope to have increased exposure for him in the next few fights. We see nothing less than a world championship in his future”.

YAFAI: JOSHUA HAS INSPIRED ME TO UNIFY THE DIVISION

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – May 9, 2017 – Kal Yafai says Anthony Joshua MBE has set a new benchmark for British fighters to follow as he prepares to make the first defence of his WBA World Super-Flyweight title against Suguru Muranaka at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham on Saturday LIVE on AWE- A Wealth of Entertainment at 3 PM ET / 12 Noon PT.

For boxing fans who don’t have access to AWE, the fight will be available on the AWE channel on www.klowdtv.com

Yafai and Joshua are close from their days as Team GB teammates, and Yafai won the crown he defends on home turf this weekend on the undercard of Joshua’s win over Eric Molina in Manchester in December.

Yafai was unable to attend Joshua’s epic win over Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium last weekend, but the 27 year old was bursting with pride as Joshua KO’d the Ukrainian in the 11th round, and believes that Joshua has raised the bar higher than ever for British fighters.

“I was unbelievably proud and happy for Anthony Joshua,” said Yafai. “When he got put down I was very nervous, I was praying for him to get up and recover and that’s what he did. It showed what a World Champion needs to do when it gets tough in there.

“He has completely smashed it now, onto bigger and better things for him. The world is his oyster. It was such a hard and big fight. I’d like to see him fight Tyson Fury but it doesn’t sound like that’s possible to happen next. If he can get a defence for one of his Titles against a contender then move onto one of the other Heavyweights like Wilder would be great.

“I still see him regularly. We come on the Team GB squad together. He’s a good lad, one of the nicest people in boxing. He loves his boxing so much. He soaks everything up like a sponge. He just still wants to learn, he’ll get better and better as he goes on. I mean he’s still only young! Realistically a novice still. He’s a funny lad and good to be around. I’ve got a lot of time for him. He’s raised the bar now – beating Klitschko at Wembley is just massive, and it’s something that we’ve all got to aspire to.

“Winning the World Title on his undercard was great. It took me four and a half years going from amateur into the pro game and winning a World Title. Doing it on a massive show headlined by AJ was special. We are Eddie Hearn’s only two World Champions who he’s had from their debuts.

“I was very pleased with my performance that night. I had to do what I had to do. I stayed focused on my own game plan, even after he failed to make the weight. I got in there and done the business. I out boxed him for 12 rounds. I made it as easy as possible.”

Yafai’s World title defence is part of a huge night of action in Birmingham, where Sam Eggington challenges Cerefino Rodriguez for the European Welterweight title.

Yafai’s brother Gamal defends his WBC International Super-Bantamweight championship against fellow Birmingham man Sean Davis, Ryan Kelly and Adam Harper meet for the Midlands Area Middleweight Title.

Frankie Gavin is back in action in his first fight with trainer Jon Pegg, and there’s action for Lennox Clarke, unbeaten Olympian Josh Kelly, Kieron Conway, Aaron Lovell, Jordan Clayton, Charlie Williams and Cori Gibbs.

Tw0 regional title fights featured on “KO Night Boxing: WAR In WinnaVegas”

SLOAN, IA (May 9, 2017) – Professional boxing returns Saturday, June 10, to WinnaVegas Casino Resort, featuring undefeated junior welterweight Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker, on the “KO Night Boxing: WAR In WinnaVegas” card, to air (10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT) on CBS Sports Network live from Sloan, Iowa.

“KO Night Boxing: WAR In WinnaVegas” is presented by KO Night Boxing LLC, in association with Roc Nation Sports, Ringside Ticket Inc. and WinnaVegas Resort Casino. TITLE Boxing is the official gloves provider for KO Night Boxing.

“This is a great opportunity for ‘KO Night Boxing, LLC’ to expand our brand to another state,” promoter John Andersen said. “We’re very happy to be coming to WinnaVegas and working with Mayan Beltran and his team. We’re kicking this new relationship off in a big way with these two regional title fights on CBS Sports Network. We hope that this is just the start of a long-lasting relationship between KO Night Boxing and WinnaVegas.

“The principal fighters in the two nationally televised fights are all on the verge of breaking out to become stars. A lot is at risk for all of them. Our promotional company is known for giving a platform to top prospects in highly entertaining, competitive matches that boxing fans love watching, whether they’re in the arena or watching on CBS Sports Network.”

“I am very excited to have CBS Sports Network boxing back at WinnaVegas Casino Resort,” CEO Mayan Beltran commented. “Our fans really like boxing and it looks like we have a great fight card, so it should be a fun night. I am looking forward to working with promoters KO Night Boxing LLC, Neon Star SE, Roc Nation Sports and, as always, Ringside Ticket Inc., to deliver this exciting night of entertainment.”

Roc Nation Sports’ Hooker (22-0-3, 16 KOs) will defend his North American Boxing Organization (NABO) junior welterweight against title challenger Abdiel “Mortero” Ramirez (23-1-1, 21 KOs) in the 10-round main event.

Fighting out of Dallas, Hooker is world rated at No. 2 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), and No. 4 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF). The 27-year-old Hooker was a decorated amateur boxer in Texas, finishing with a 97-7 (67 KOs) record, who turned pro in 2011.

Hooker first captured the vacant NABO title in 2015, at home in Dallas, with a six-round technical knockout of previously unbeaten Eduardo Galindo (10-0-1). Since, Hooker has made three successful title defenses against Ghislain Maduma (17-1) at the famed Madison Square Garden on Nov. 17, 2015, Ty Barnett (23-5-1) at Oracle Arena on August 6, 2016; and in a 10-round draw with former World Boxing Association (WBA) World Champion Darleys Perez (33-2-1) on undercard of Sergey Kovalev vs. Andre Ward “Pound-For-Pound” on Mov. 19 in Las Vegas.

In his most recent fight on Feb. 25 in Mexico, Hooker cruised to a dominant 10-round decision victory over former IBF World Champion Cristobal Cruz (41-20-4).

Ramirez, 25, is a former FECOMBOX Lightweight Champion, fighting out of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Ramirez, who is riding a nine-fight win streak, will be fighting outside of his native Mexico for the first time against Hooker.

The 10-round co-feature for the vacant United States Boxing Association (USBA) featherweight crown has been in the works for a while and it could very well steal the show as former USBA champion Daniel “Twitch” Franco takes on Jose Haro.

The 25-year-old Franco (15-1-3, 10 KOs), fighting out of Rancho Cucamonga, California, started boxing at the age of eight, amassing an amateur record of 67-15, highlighted by gold-medal performances at the 2006 Oxnard PAL Championships and 2017 California State Silver Gloves Championships.

Fighting under the Roc Nation Sports banner, Franco captured the vacant USBA featherweight title last November, knocking out previously unbeaten Derrick Murray (13-0-1) in four rounds. Franco was stopped in his last fight by veteran Christopher Martin (29-8-3) in the third round of their non-title fight in Los Angeles on March 23. Franco is currently rated No. 5 by the USBA and No. 11 by the NABO.

USBA No. 14-rated Haro (13-1-1, 7 KOs), who is a well-kept secret outside of West Jordan, Utah, is an all-action fighter. The 29-year-old has won his last five fights, unbeaten in in his last six with a draw, since suffering his only loss to highly-touted prospect Toka Kahn Clary (11-0) by way of a six-round decision in 2014.

All fights and fighters are subject to change. Additional bouts will soon be announced.

Tickets are on sale at the WinnaVegas box office and online at www.tickets.winnavegas.biz. Advance ticket prices are $35.00 ringside (rows 1 & 2), $35.00 VIP Reserved Seating (rows 3 & 4), $20.00 General Admission Reserved Seating (rows 3 & 4) and $15.00 General Admission Standing Room Only. A special Resort/Hotel package for two is also available for $199.00, which includes two VIP Reserved Seats, WinnaVegas hotel room, two dinner vouchers and two $5.00 Sunday breakfast buffet voucher.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. CT with the opening bout scheduled at 7:30 p.m. CT. It is an all-ages event.

Comosa AG, the organiser of boxing´s first global knock-out tournament, is delighted to announce that the inaugural season of the World Boxing Super Series will feature the fiercely-competitive cruiserweight and super middleweight divisions. In each weight class, eight fighters will battle it out in a bracket-style elimination tournament. The last man standing will receive the GREATEST prize in boxing, the Muhammad Ali Trophy.

“We are thrilled to kick off the World Boxing Super Series in style with two of the sport’s most exciting divisions,”said Roberto Dalmiglio, Comosa’s Head of Management Board.”The tournament will create never- seen before drama for fans around the globe.”

Richard Schaefer, Comosa’s Chairman of the Americas, believes the World Boxing Super Series will lift boxing to a new level. He said: “The cruiserweights and super-middleweight have time and time again thrown up thrilling contests – but nobody has ever pitted the top fighters against each other in a fan-friendly, easy-to- understand way within a short period of time. Our revolutionary KO tournament will take less than a year and deliver the crème de la crème in these weights with a blend of past, present and future from the world’s finest fighters.”

The tournament will kick off in September, with four quarter-finals per division. The semi-finals will be held in early 2018, and the winners will be crowned in May 2018. “We have an exciting format, two exciting divisions and now we will sign exciting fighters,” said Kalle Sauerland, Comosa´s Chief Boxing Officer. “These weights give a great opportunity for us to deliver a huge geographic spread. On top of that, I can imagine champions and challengers from other divisions, such as light heavyweight, stepping up or down in weight to join the quest for the Ali Trophy.”

A special boxer selection process has been put in place to determine the contestants for Season One.

On May 15, tournament enrollment will commence where all WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF Champions as well as all top 15 world-ranked contenders (or their respective promoters, agents, managers or trainers with legal entitlement) can make their application to enter the tournament via enrollment@WorldBoxingSuperSeries.com.

Enrollment closes on May 26. All applicants will be verified and evaluated by the board of Comosa. The Comosa Sports Division will then contract eight fighters per weight class as well as potential back-ups.

In early July, Comosa will stage an official Presentation Gala in Monte Carlo to publicly announce all 16 participants and determine the draw. In each weight class, the four top seeds will select their quarter-final opponents from the four unseeded boxers in a live TV show.

Top Cruiserweight Prospects Banks and Zubov to Meet in All-Action Co-Main Event at Salita Promotions’ Detroit Brawl on Friday, June 16, at Masonic Temple in Detroit

The 10-round co-main event has been announced for promoter Dmitriy Salita blockbuster “Detroit Brawl” on Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Masonic Temple in Detroit and it’s sensational.

In a fight destined for Motown’s history books, undefeated Detroit cruiserweight Demetrius Banks (9-0, 4 KOs) will face Detroit via Russia’s Alexey Zubov (14-1, 9 KOs) in a ten-round showdown.

The guaranteed thriller will serve as the chief supporting bout to two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, and now Women’s NABF Middleweight Champion, Claressa “T-Rex” Shields (2-0, 1 KO) of Flint, Michigan, taking on Mery Rancier (7-8-3, 5 KOs) of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, for the WBC Silver Super Middleweight Championship in the main event.

Once again sponsored by the Greektown Casino Hotel, tickets for “Detroit Brawl” are priced at VIP $200, Box Seats are $100 and $55, Seating is $40, and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com.

36-year-old Banks had a terrific 2016, beating 5-1 Emilio Salas in May and then, after a tune-up in July, stepping up to heavyweight to hand Craig Lewis (13-1-1) his first defeat as a professional. A stronger puncher than his four career knockouts would indicate, Banks is an exciting fighter who always finds a way to win, often against bigger men.

“I’m very appreciative of the opportunity to fight Zubov,” said Banks. “This is an opportunity to show I can rise to every occasion! Alexey is a tough all-business fighter, who is a very necessary component to my advancement and true arrival in the sport. This mission is much bigger than me. I’m just doing what I was born to do… Fight/inspire ‘Relentless Determination’ is a lifestyle!”

30-year-old Zubov, originally from Magnitogorsk, Russia, relocated to Detroit’s Kronk Gym in 2016, to train with Javan SugarHill Steward, nephew of the late Emanuel Steward. The former heavily decorated amateur says he’s coming in all-new for this important showdown.

“I am feeling good. I have had a great camp so far and I will be ready. I am always in great shape and always ready for a fight. I’ve sparred with him (Banks) a couple times and he’s a good fighter. He’s very good technically. It’ll be a good fight. I am prepared to show a brand-new Alexey for this fight and how much I have improved working with Sugar.”

Promoter Dmitriy Salita says he’s happy to be bringing this sensational fight to his adopted home of Detroit. “A high-level 50/50 fight, where anyone can win. This is the kind of match-up that boxing needs. It truly lives up to what the Detroit Brawl series is all about,” said Salita. “The winner will be recognized as one of the best cruiserweight contenders in the world.”

More fights, opponents and rounds will be announced shortly. On fight night, doors open at 7:00 pm and the fights begin at 8:00 pm.

NEW YORK (May 9. 2017) — Two-time world title challenger RAY “Sugar” BELTRAN and heavy-fisted JONATHAN “The Last Inca” MAICELO will go mano a mano in a high-stakes battle of world-rated lightweight contenders. Sanctioned by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) as a world lightweight title elimination bout, the winner of the 12-round rumble will also lay claim to the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) International and the NABF and NABO lightweight titles, currently held by Beltran. Beltran vs. Maicelo will be the co-main event to the TERENCE “Bud” CRAWFORD – FÉLIX DÍAZ World Junior Welterweight Championship, Saturday, May 20, at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden. Both fights will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing, beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/PT. The world championship event will also feature the Pride of Newark and 2016 U.S. Olympic silver medalist SHAKUR STEVENSON on the non-televised undercard.

Beltran and Maicelo, who hail from Mexico and Peru, respectively, have a combined record of 57-9-1 (32 KOs), — a winning percentage of 85% with over half their victories coming by way of knockout. Both boast unbeaten streaks dating back to 2015..

“We are ready for this fight. It is a very important fight for the whole team, because it will be the fight that will take us to the opportunity of battling for a world title,” said Beltran. “We are focused on winning. We are coming to fight and give a great show to all the fans. I don’t just want to win. I want to look good and win convincingly. Little by little I am making my dreams come true. I have battled a lot in my career. We have fulfilled many of our goals, like now that we are going to fight at Madison Square Garden. Being able to fight in a historical place, where all the greats have fought, is a dream come true.”

“This is a very important fight for my career. This fight means everything to me because I will be able to display my skills in front of a big audience and on a big stage like Madison Square Garden,” said Maicelo. “Right now I’m at my best and on May 20 everyone will see the best of me. I’m working very hard in the gym because everyone knows that Beltran is a tough fighter, but I’m focused on winning because this is a world title elimination bout that will take me straight to the opportunity of fighting for a world title.”

Beltran (32-7-1, 20 KOs), a native of Ahome, Mexico who resides in Phoenix, AZ., enters this fight having won his last three fights by knockout. A two-time lightweight world title challenger and a former sparring partner of eight-division world champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, Beltran still trains at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, Calif. In his last fight, in the co-main event to the Crawford John Molina Jr. world title fight on December 10, Crawford scored a sensational one-punch seventh-round knockout of once-beaten Mason Menard in an NABF-NABO lightweight title fight. Beltran is currently world-rated No. 2 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), No. 3 by the IBF and No. 4 by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Maicelo (25-2, 12 KOs), a native of Callao, Peru who fights out of North Bergen, New Jersey, is riding a two-year four-bout winning streak. His most impressive victory was his in his last fight, against Jose Felix, Jr. on February 17. Felix, who entered the fight with a 35-1-1 record and world-rated No. 3 by the WBO, was knocked down five times by Maicelo. Maicelo’s upset unanimous decision victory over Felix has propelled him to No. 7 in the IBF.

WARRINGTON ON SELBY: “I WANT TO PUNCH HIS HEAD IN!”

World rated Leeds featherweight Josh Warrington knows that a sizzling showing before his adoring home fans this weekend will edge him to the cusp of a world title challenge before the year is out …..and a civil war with Barry’s IBF boss Lee Selby remains his preferred target.

‘Lee’s one of the few I’d need to spot a little bit of height and reach to but he’s far shorter than Hisashi Amagasa, the Japanese fighter I defended my WBC International against. He was a near six foot freak but I pretty much shut him out. Featherweights don’t come taller than that. You just need to box clever, get on their chest and bite ‘em (laughs)!

‘Selby does use his reach well, to hit and move off. He’s got good variety and is usually very busy for six rounds, snatches the early rounds, then protects the lead. Downside? He thinks he’s a banger when he’s not. He puts far too much into his punches then fades.

‘Lee might be champion but we bring the gate. If you have no fan base you have to travel to earn money. If and when it happens, it’s very likely to be in Leeds.

‘Last year, Selby was red hot favourite as the World Champion I’d challenge. It didn’t happen but the fight’s certainly not dead. The fight and animosity have been stewing for a while now and I’m very eager to prove all my doubters wrong.

‘There’s definitely a bit of friction. I’ve never slagged off anybody’s ability or achievements but he gives me no credit and his fans made it worse on social media. Now my lot have got involved. Let’s just settle it. I want to punch his head in!’

Remaining tickets for Warrington vs. Martinez on Saturday night are available from Eventim at www.eventim.co.uk and 0844 249 1000.

NICOLA ADAMS OBE FACES MARYAN SALAZAR IN LEEDS HOMECOMING

Leeds Double Olympic Champion Nicola Adams OBE faces Mexico’s Maryan Salazar over four three minute rounds at the First Direct Arena on Saturday 13th May, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

Yorkshire hero Adams made a dream start to her professional career last month at the Manchester Arena, cruising to a comfortable points win over tough Argentinian Virginia Noemi Carcamo.

She controlled the range and pace of the fight with her impressive footwork, punch variety and timing, but was unable to force the stoppage. After deciding to move to longer three minute rounds, Adams believes the extra time will lead to more knockout wins.

“You just need that extra minute, you’re learning all these new things in the gym and you can’t try them out in two minutes,” said Adams. “I have two minutes to find my rhythm, distance and take out my opponent. It’s not enough time.

“I found by the end of the rounds, I needed a couple more seconds and it would be over. Now we have three minutes, I’m able to relax more, establish the jab, find the rhythm properly and really get in the swing of things.”

‘The Lioness’ is relishing the chance to fight in her home city for the first time in 20 years. The hugely-popular Flyweight has come a long way since her amateur debut at a smoke-filled working men’s club in 1997.

“I can’t wait to fight in front of all of the Leeds fans. The atmosphere in the Arena is going to be unreal and I’m sure it will replicate the noise at the Games. I haven’t boxed in Leeds since I was a kid so this really is a homecoming fight.”

Maryan Salazar, 18, has won five of her six professional fights, losing once on points. The Aguascalientes resident has contested 32 rounds since making her professional debut in August 2016.

Remaining tickets for Saturday’s show are available from Eventim at www.eventim.co.uk and 0844 249 1000.

The promotion’s first ever series, the iconic Ramada Rumble, featured many boxing legends over its twelve year run – boxing icons such as James Toney, Angel Manfredy and others, and once featured the World Title eliminator bout between Antonio Tarver and Reggie Johnson that set the stage for Tarver’s upset win over Roy Jones Jr.

BOXING LEGEND EVANDER HOLYFIELD ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF REAL DEAL SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT

NEW YORK, NY – May 8, 2017 – Boxing legend and soon-to-be Hall of Famer Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield has officially announced that he has entered the promotional ring, launching Real Deal Sports & Entertainment (RDSE). Now on the opposite side of the negotiating table, Holyfield will mentor the careers of young fighters by maximizing their potential and providing them with the opportunities that he didn’t have starting out. Teaming up with the four-time world heavyweight champion will be Sal Musumeci, the longtime President of Final Forum Boxing, who will serve as RDSE’s President and CEO. The parent company of Real Deal Sports & Entertainment, headquartered in Long Island, NY, will oversee The Real Deal Boxing, the promotional entity, as well as a production company and an apparel line.

“Boxing was very good to me during my career,” said Holyfield, Co-Owner of Real Deal Sports & Entertainment. “Now it is time to give something back to the sport that treated me so well.”

“I am proud to assemble the most respected, hardworking and intelligent team in the industry, starting with Evander right on through,” said Musumeci, CEO and Co-Owner of Real Deal Sports & Entertainment.

The company’s first move was to hire Eric Bentley, who has more than a decade’s worth of experience in the boxing industry, as its Chief Operating Officer. Bentley spent over seven years working for the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) as a highly-respected executive, first as an event coordinator before being elevated to Director of Boxing in 2014. He has also served as a top matchmaker for Final Forum Boxing and DiBella Entertainment.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to have the opportunity to oversee this company for Evander and Sal,” said Bentley. “I see unlimited potential for Real Deal Sports & Entertainment. After our initial conversation, it became an easy decision for me to leave my position at NYSAC and join the team. Evander’s main goal is to provide today’s fighters with the opportunities and knowledge he didn’t have at the outset of his career, which is a conviction this sport desperately needs and of which I’m proud to be a part. In the coming weeks, we will be rounding out our staff, expanding our stable of talented fighters and announcing several key partnerships and initiatives that will revolutionize the sport of boxing.”

Real Deal Sports & Entertainment has already begun to build its roster and is proud to announce the signing of several promising prospects and contenders. World-ranked Ecuadorian standout Jeyson Minda (13-0-1) won the South American middleweight title last August and is rated no. 15 by the WBA. The fearless, always-entertaining Devaun Lee (7-2-1), of Jamaica, Queens, won the New York State middleweight championship last March and has already handed three favorites their first defeat. Unbeaten New York welterweight prospect Peter Dobson (8-0), from The Bronx, is a fan-favorite whenever he fights, with his brawling style. Those three up-and-comers will join the Real Deal stable that includes heavyweight contender Derric Rossy (31-12) and undefeated Las Vegas welterweight prospect Jeremy Nichols (7-0-1).

“We are excited to announce the signing of these future stars,” said Bentley. “I am very proud to have them join our team and anticipate our roster growing with many more rising prospects searching for the right outlet to successfully guide their careers.

“Jeyson Minda had a stellar amateur career in South America and is a world-ranked middleweight just a few fights away from title contention.

“‘Pistol Pete’ Dobson is someone very special to us, as he is one of the most motivated boxers with whom I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. He has traveled all over the country, constantly pushing himself outside of his comfort zone. He is willing to face anyone and his all-out aggressive style makes him a very crowd-pleasing fighter.

“Devaun ‘Unique’ Lee is another fighter who takes on all comers. He is the current New York State middleweight champion and he has fought six undefeated fighters thus far in his young career. He is a tough assignment for anyone and deserves the opportunity to showcase his talents to the world.”

The company has an agreement with CBS Sports Net and plans to air its “Real Deal Championship Boxing” series on the network on a monthly basis. Look out for a big announcement regarding Real Deal Sports & Entertainment’s first boxing event in the days ahead.

Canelo crushes infomercial but Junior retains chavezweight title

By Bart Barry-

Saturday in Las Vegas, in boxing’s must daring exploitation of Cinco De Mayo loyalties yet, Jalisco’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez won every round, minute and second of his match with Sinaloa’s “Son of the Legend” Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. while clearing his throat for a scripted callout of Gennady “GGG” Golovkin, Canelo’s next opponent. Chavez, too, saved himself for postfight festivities, wherever they were.

What suspicions some Mexicans will harbor after Saturday’s postfight announcement, the postcharade charade – a $70 staredown, as it were – reduce to this statement: Chavez Jr. fought exactly like a guy who knew his opponent’s next contract was signed before the opening bell and got paid generously to participate in the promotion. Chavez, twitchy with embarrassment or concussion or the lingering effects of whatever copious stimulants he ingested to hollow himself for Friday’s weighin, stood in the ring after Saturday’s defeat and should’ve found it curious as the rest of us he was being interviewed first but appeared untroubled by it because, let’s be honest, as part of the promotion and broadcast he knew Canelo’d be calling out “Globekeen” and had a contractual need to don his sponsor’s headwear. Or did you think Chavez was otherwise hankering for a chance to explain the worst performance of his farcical career?

Some personal notes about that career, now that it’s unofficially through: Luck and geography put me ringside for a disproportionate number of Chavez matches while promoter Top Rank was inventing him, including Chavez’s dominations of Ireland’s John Duddy and “Irish” Andy Lee, and there was ever a wide chasm between the way Chavez expected to be treated in interviews and the way he prepared himself for fights. He was a haughty prick in his native language, un fresa, an unlikable combination of awkward and arrogant, ever casting impatient glares at his handlers to get things moving while he mixed cliches evasively and said absolutely nothing. You waste enough time on a subject, though, and some sense of selfpreservation or efficiency helps you begin to imagine admirable qualities, and when you can’t, you settle on redeeming qualities, and Chavez did have one in particular. He truly made others funnier.

Saturday I sat in a roomful of aficionados representing nearly every ethnicity on this green earth and each one was funnier in his expressions of disgust for Chavez than he was on any other subject. Sunday morning I scrolled through Twitter, too, and found myself manifesting an uncommonest form of mirth: Laughing aloud alone. This backhanded celebration of Chavez is not a gratuitous lunge at fulfilling wordcount, either; what I will miss about Chavez is a chance to write humorously about something in our beloved sport.

That almost never happens. Through his indifference to preparation and tacit acknowledgements a fortune was being made by charging persons for hoping to see him beaten to death Chavez gave writers a waiver of sorts to make fun of him in a playfully amoral way. Anyone who’s tried to do this with any other fighter has quickly found himself a target of moralists’ umbrage: “How dare you – he’s risking his life in there!” Which means what humor we’re allowed is either artless stock (“his chin is an insult to fine China everywhere”) or bitterly facetious: “I suppose if I were a recovering addict who wanted his legacy stolen out from under him and sold to a faceless charlatan, I probably couldn’t do better than hire Richard Schaefer, either.”

You could make fun of Son of the Legend while smiling, in other words, not scowling. I’ll miss that.

While we’re on the subject of selling talent, a quick thought about an occasionally overlooked detail of the Chavez legacy: How well he predicted PBC’s eye for talent. Recall that Al Haymon and friends got themselves sued by Top Rank three years ago when they poached Son of the Legend. As a Haymon-managed practitioner Junior went 2-2 (1 KO-by) in a disgraceful fourmatch march that fell somewhere between plain ingratitude and corporate sabotage. Bless Junior’s ungrateful heart for that.

And so we come to Canelo, the man Chavez now concedes is the best Mexican prizefighter of their generation, a selfmade marketeer, Jalisco horseman and entrepreneurial son of a Mexican icecream vendor, all that, and a redhead too. Canelo looked genuinely fantastic against Chavez but did not stop him. Or even hurt him. Which means there’s very little chance of his winning the 2017 Fight HBO Most Wants Seen. (As an aside, how richly absurd was that segue to Golovkin in the broadcast’s second match? Orbital bone, orbital bone, why, that reminds viewers of GGG’s September victory!)

Golovkin and Canelo are basically the same fighter, and Golovkin is bigger, and without squandering others’ chances at 100,000 words of handicapping, there’s no reason to think their match will be any more complicated than that. Fine, I take that back: Canelo is better defensively, and Golovkin hits harder, but Canelo hits pretty hard too, and Golovkin’s defense is actually underrated. There you go, peers, I left the last 99,980 words for y’all.

We end with a correction to a point above. There was one other fighter I’ve covered who was fun to make fun of as Junior, and he was another junior: Hector Camacho Jr. Difference being, Machito was a great storyteller and amusing conversationalist. But he did say to me one thing germane to Chavez’s situation today: “I’ve disrespected the sport of boxing so many times I’m surprised they let me put gloves on.”

Canelo-GGG: The real fight gets announced after Canelo blows away Chavez Jr.

LAS VEGAS – The fight was no celebration.  It was just a beating.

There was nothing to cheer until Canelo Alvarez’ predictable victory was over Saturday night.

A crowd 20,510 fans booed a nasty goodbye to legend wannabe Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and then forgot all about the 12 rounds that were never really a fight anyway. Instead, it was an event that included a steppingstone toward the one fight everyone has wanted to see for a couple of years.

Finally, we can look forward to Canelo versus Gennady Golovkin.

While boos still echoed throughout T-Mobil Arena, there was suddenly GGG, entering the arena and then the ring to congratulate Canelo. For days before opening bell, Golden Boy Promotions repeatedly said that GGG would not attend. It was a secret.

But the plan – a good piece of stagecraft — was in place all along, because Golden Boy knew what many in the media had predicted for weeks. Chavez Jr. had no chance. The event had to include something dramatic.

So, yeah, GGG showed up and suddenly the crowd forgot why it was so unhappy.

Yes, Canelo said, his next fight would be on Sept. 16 against middleweight champion GGG.

“Triple-G, you are next my friend,” Canelo (49-1-1, 34 KOs) said. “The fight is done. I’ve never feared anyone since I was 16. When I was born, fear was gone.”

Canelo said it almost as if he had just finished a workout for the September date.  Next time around, Canelo might want to get a better sparring partner. He surely had nothing to fear in Chavez Jr. (50-3-1, 32 KOs) in a 164.5-pound bout.

He turned Chavez Jr. into a Cinco de Mayo piñata, pounding him with thumping blows from round to punishing round in bout that had to have an HBO pay-per-view audience wondering why it paid good for another stinker.

It was 120-108 on all three scorecards. But it was more than unanimous. More than just one-sided. It was an avalanche, one that simply buried Chavez Jr., first beneath jabs, then uppercuts and finally just about anything Canelo wanted to throw.

The crowd, perhaps, expected Chavez Jr. to live up to the legend his father was. But those expectations were unfair to Chavez Jr., a man with only the legendary name and none of the skill to carry it on for another generation.

Chavez Jr. was never Mexico’s heir apparent anyway. Canelo knew that and proved that almost with an unmerciful intensity.

There were moments when it simply looked as if he were toying with Junior, who got a kiss on the cheek from his father a few moments before opening bell

Canelo played a little rope-a-dope, inviting Chavez in to throw a few punches. Then, he would bounce off the ropes – and thump, thump, thump – pound away at a rival he never liked. All the while, Canelo never sat down between rounds.

He listened to his corner. He paced a little. Then, he went back to work, not so much against Chavez but on the GGG who awaits him.

Lemieux wins tough decision

David Lemieux might be an option for a shot at a middleweight title. But options didn’t matter much for 10 rounds Saturday night. Lemieux found himself in surprising battle, a test of will, against tough Marco Reyes Saturday night in the final fight before Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Canelo Alavrez took center stage on a HBO pay-per-view card at T-Mobil Arena.

Lemieux (38-3 33 KOs) finally emerged with victory, a unanimous decision, but not before a bloodied Reyes (35-5, 26 KOs) repeatedly came back at him, making him wonder and then work for a tough victory.

Lemieux’s powerful shots rocked Reyes around the ring for the first three rounds. Blood from wound above Reyes right eye pours down his cheek, over his chin, onto his shoulder and across his chest. But he would not quit. He pumped a gloved hand at the crowd. He winked at fans he knew in ringside seats. Survival is fun. At least, it was for the gutsy Reyes, who was even penalized a point after the eighth round for a blow thrown after the bell

Matthysse back with a stoppage

Matthysse was back with some of the Machine-like power he had before a 19-month layoff, landing piston-like rights to hurt, then drop and finally finish Emannuel Taylor in a fifth-round welterweight stoppage Saturday night on the HBO pay-per-view card featuring Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at T-Mobile Arena.

Matthysse (38-4, 35 KOs), a former junior-welterweight champion, was coming off a KO loss to Viktor Postol, who also left him with a fracture to his left-eye socket. There were questions about whether the Argentine  could ever be the same. Consider those questions answered. The first answer was a right that backed Taylor (20-5, 5 KOs) into the ropes late in the first The second was a similar right in the following round. Then, there was the third, a knockdown after Mathysse’s right eye was bloodied in a head butt in the following round.
The final answer landed in the fifth with a body-and-head combination that dropped Taylor and left referee Jay Nady with no choice but to end it in a TKO at 2:21 of the round.

Jo Jo Diaz opens PPV show with dull, yet decisive decision

Not much happened, but whatever did was initiated by Jo Jo Diaz, who remained unbeaten and moved a little closer to a shot at a major featherweight title with a unanimous decision over Manuel Avila Saturday in the first televised bout on the HBO pay-per-view card featuring Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at T-Mobile Arena.

Diaz (24-0, 13 KOs), of South El Monte, Calif.,  was the aggressor throughout and managed to rock a tentative Avila (22-1, 8 KOs), of Fairfield, Calif., with a combination to the head and body in the ninth of 10 rounds.

Ryan Garcia scores swift stoppage

Ryan Garcia, a lightweight from Victorville, Calif., didn’t waste much time. He didn’t have to.

Garcia (9-0, 7 KOs) scored a knock down of Tyrone Luckey (8-7-3) seconds of the opening bell. He ended it at 20 seconds after the start of the second, a TKO in the last bout on the non-televised part of the Canelo-Chavez Jr. undercard Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.

Ex-Olympian Marlen Esparza goes to 2-0 as a pro

Houston flyweight Marlen Esparza (2-0) fought for only the second time since she won a bronze medal for the United States at the 2012 Olympics. It’s been a while. But it was a technical gem. Esparza scored repeatedly with precision and timing, from a distance and from angles in the fourth bout on the non-televised portion of the Canelo-Chavez undercard. Samantha Salazar (2-4-1), of Dallas, never had a chance, losing a decision in a shut out — 40-36 on all three cards.

Mexican prospect wins majority decision in debut

It wasn’t an easy debut. Then again, beginnings are also supposed to include lessons and Mexican prospect Raul Curiel got a few in winning a majority decision in the third bout Saturday on the non-televised positron of the Canelo-Chavez Jr. card T-Mobile Arena.

Curiel, who is managed by Frank Espinoza, had more more power and quicker hands than fellow Mexican Jesus Sanchez (1-2-2) in a super-welterweight bout. He scored, yet was sporadic over a four rounder that ended with him winning 40-36 on two cards. On the third, it was a 38-38 draw.

Second Bout Blowout: Ronny Rios wins powerful TKO

California super-bantamweight Ronny Rios had all of the power. Daniel Noriega was simply in the way, unable to elude it or counter it. A stoppage was inevitable.

After a knockdown of Noriega (28-11-1, 15 KOs), of Mexico, in the third round, it came at 2:22 of the fourth midway through a sustained blitz of heavy, head-rocking hands from Rios (28-1, 13 KOs). Finally, referee Vic Drakulich stepped in and stopped the assault in the second bout, ending the second bout Saturday on the non-televised portion of the Canelo-Chavez undercard at T-Mobile Arena.
Canelo-Chavez card underway: Joseph Aguirre wins opening bout
There were almost more people in the ring than in the seats. But Joseph Aguirre, Angel Aispuro were there to get things started in the first bout on the non-televised part of the Canelo Alvarez-Juilio Cesar Chavez Jr. Saturday card with matinee show at T-Mobile Arena.
Aguirre (17-0, 9 KOS) won it. Too bad there wasn’t to applaud him. The Mexican lightweight was dominant, scoring a one-sided decision — 60-54 on all three cards — over Aispuro (8-5-2, 5 KOs), who could never get inside his long, stinging jab and a solid, sneaky hook,

Canelo-Chavez Jr.: Chavez Jr. loses pounds, saves money

By Norm Frauenheim-

LAS VEGAS – There were no upsets on the scale. No penalties, either.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. lost the pounds and saved himself a lot of money Friday on the eve of his 164.5-pound fight against Canelo Alvarez Saturday at T-Mobile Arena.

The fighter known for his failures on the scale made it with half-a-pound to spare. Both were at 164 even.

“I’m happy he made weight,’’ Canelo said.

Probably not as happy as Chavez Jr. He would have been $1 million lighter if he had even come in at 164.51 pounds, according to a penalty clause in the contract. That’s a lot of dough for a fraction of excess flesh. But this is boxing, prize fighting. The idea is to keep the wallet fat.

According to purses filed with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Canelo is guaranteed $5 million. Chavez Jr.’s guarantee is $3 million. But the guess is that both will collect much more by the time undisclosed percentages of the pay-per-view television money. There are also deals with Mexican TV that were not included in the numbers filed with the Commission. According to a variety of sources with camps, Canelo could wind up with $20 million. For Chavez Jr., the final take could be as much as $8 million.

It depends on the number of paying customers for HBO’s pay-per-view telecast (6p.m. PT/9 pm ET).

It’s hard to guess, especially amid today’s technology and all the ways there are to steal a telecast. But within the MGM Grand, the bout’s host casino, there was a growing buzz for a fight between the redheaded Canelo (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and the son of a fighter with a name as iconic as any in Mexico.

Odds favoring Canelo have stayed at about 5-to-1 throughout the last week at books up and down the Vegas Strip.

They are based in part on Canelo’s stubborn consistency and record, which includes bouts against some of the elites in the game. Canelo appears to be getting better. When the fight with Chavez Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) was announced, it was seen as a way for Canelo to finally make the jump from junior-middleweight to middleweight (160) for an anticipated showdown with Gennady Golovkin.

That’s still the Golden Boy Promotions’ plan, perhaps for September, although there’s some talk that Canelo might fight Canadian David Lemieux before he takes on GGG. It’s no coincidence, perhaps, that Lemieux is on the undercard against Mexican Marco Reyes.

With the stakes as big as they are and a Mexican fan base divided just about down the middle between Canelo and Chavez Jr., every word and move has been analyzed and over-analyzed, interpreted and misinterpreted. At Friday’s weigh-in, it was all about body language.

Chavez Jr.’s thin upper body looked like it could be a very big target for Canelo punishing array of combinations. Then again, there was some talk that Canelo came into the weigh-in too heavy. He has been most effective in his career when he tips the scale at 155. He was heavier at this weigh-in than ever. The guess is that he will be heavier, anywhere from 170 to 180, at opening bell. Will the added weight make him slower? Could the extra pounds result in fatigue if the bout goes into the later rounds?

Meanwhile, Chavez Jr. wouldn’t say how much heavier he expects to be at opening bell. The best guess was that he would be between 175 and 180 pounds.

“I want to push him, impose my size on him,’’ said the 6-foot-1 Chavez Jr., who is four inches taller than the 5-9 Canelo. “That’s my strategy.’’

Maybe, it’ll work. On one scale of expectations, he’s already ahead of the game.

What Comeback? Gamboa quits on his stool

LAS VEGAS – The end was abrupt and unceremonious. Yuriorkis Gamboa quit on his stool after seven rounds. His comeback was over. Maybe, a once promising career was too.

Gamboa (26-2, 17 KOs), a former IBF and WBA featherweight champion, looked all of his 35 years, suffering knockdowns in the third and fourth rounds in a stunning loss to Mexican lightweight Robinson Castellanos (24-12,14 KOs) Friday night at the MGM Grand.

Gamboa, who recently signed with Golden Boy Promotions, flashed some familiar footwork and counter-punching power in the first two rounds. In the third, however, he dropped his hands and Castellanos capitalized in the round’s closing second, dropping the Cuban with a straight right hand.

During the first minute of the fourth, Castlellanos again dropped his hands and Castellano’s again took advantage of the moment, this time dropping him with long right.

Gamboa, a gold-medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, appeared to regain his composure and mobility late in the fifth and again in the sixth. After the seventh however, he went to his corner and seemed to almost collapse on his stool in exhaustion.

Rojas stops Lopez

Jesus Rojas stopped previously undefeated Abraham Lopez in round eight of their scheduled 10-round featherweight bout.

In round two, Rojas dropped Lopez with a straight right hand. Rojas sent Lopez down in a round four from a hard combination.

In round eight, it was an overhand right that sent Lopez down. Rojas continued to pound away at Lopez and referee Tony Weeks stopped the bout at 1:40.

Rojas, 126 lbs of Caguas, PR is now 25-1-2 with 18 knockouts. Lopez, 126 lbs of La Puenta, CA is 22-1-1.

“It’s almost three years since I’ve fought in the U.S.; this win is the opportunity to be on the global stage, and take on world champions,” Rojas said. “I promised my father that I would become a world champion, and even though he is not with me any more, I carry on our dream. I hope that by the end of the year, I am competing for an interim title or even a world championship.”
“It’s tough to swallow, I’m still processing it, but it happens,” Lopez said. “After this, I know I’m going to go back to the drawing board and start training hard again.”

In a battle of undefeated middleweights, Yamaguchi Falcao won a 10-round unanimous decision over Morgan Fitch.

Falcao, 160 lbs of Sao Paulo, BRA won by scores of 100-90 on all cards and is now 13-0. Fitch, 161 lbs of Pittsburgh, PA is 18-1-1.

Falcao landed 157 of 494 punches. Fitch landed 71 of 303.

“It’s been five months since I’ve been in the ring since my last fight,” Falcao said. “I had a lot of trouble adjusting and finding my rhythm. It’s a journey, and I’m glad I got the win but if I want to reach my goal of fighting the big time fighters I have to improve everywhere.”

“I don’t know what happened in there,” Fitch said. “I just know that I could have done better and been more serious in there. I’m at a loss of words.”

Vergil Ortiz, Jr. remained perfect by stopping Angel Sarinana in round three of their scheduled four round super lightweight bout.

Ortiz dropped Sarinana with a perfect right uppercut in round three. Sarinan got to his feet, but was wobbly and referee Jack Reiss sopped the bout at 1:44.

Ortiz, 140 lbs of Dallas, TX is 5-0 with five knockouts. Sarinana, 139.5 lbs of Durango, MX is 7-6-2.

“I saw him get hurt in the first round when hit him in the body with a hook,” Ortiz said. “Since that moment, I was just looking for the opportunity to get the knock out, but he was a tough guy and was able to make it through. In the third round, I saw him lose he guard, and I landed my uppercut that sent him to the floor. I think after this, I’m ready to increase my rounds. I think I am ready to take on some tougher opponents.”

CANELO OPENS UP ON CHAVEZ JR RIVALRY AS LEGENDARY FATHER CALLS ON SON TO SHOW HE “HAS MY GENES, HAS MY BALLS” AHEAD OF BOXNATION BLOCKBUSTER

LONDON (5 May) – Canelo Alvarez has opened up about his bad blood with ‘little kid’ Julio Cesar Chavez Jr ahead of their grudge match this weekend.

The pair will finally trade leather this Saturday night from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, live on BoxNation, with two-weight world champion Canelo revealing where the feud between the Mexican rivals originated.

“This rivalry goes back about ten years, you know, to our time in Guadalajara. They had the opportunity to make this fight years ago. They had the power to make this fight back then. They didn’t want to,” said Canelo.

“As a person, I don’t know him well, but just from what I hear from his actions and all, it’s like a guy that just doesn’t sustain what he says. You know, he just says a lot of things. It’s almost like he’s a little kid,” he said.

31-year-old Chavez Jr was equally vocal about the duos long-standing ill will, believing that this fight is the most important of his 14-year career and one he can win by knockout.

“Yes, there’s a real, true rivalry, and on Saturday night, people are going to see firsthand this rivalry, how real it is. Obviously we’re going to show it inside the ring,” said Chavez Jr.

“I do feel that this fight is the biggest fight of my career, just because it’s a big event, because of who I’m fighting and because of the opportunity. I’m going to take advantage of it and make the best of it.

“I feel I can knock him out. I feel that I’m a bigger guy. I fought at light heavyweight. He’s never fought fighters this size, and because of that, if things pan out and I get the right shot, I think of course the knockout can happen,” he said.

There is high expectation in the Chavez Jr camp, with his legendary father, Julio Cesar Chavez, recently commenting that this was a fight where “Julio has to show that he has my genes – that he has my balls”.

The former middleweight world champion is aware of what is on the line having changed his team around in the build up, bringing in the much respected Nacho Beristain to train him, but will still use his father as inspiration for the fight.

“I like my father to be around. It’s okay when he’s around. It’s just important for him to understand that he’s not my trainer,” Chavez Jr said.

“Sometimes we don’t always transmit instructions the way we would like for them to come out, but I have my own trainer. I picked Nacho Beristain, who is a great trainer; one of the best in the history of boxing.

“But I will say that a lot of what I learned in boxing, I learned it watching my father as a little kid. I grew up watching him my whole life, and I learned a lot of what I know from watching my father,” he said.

Flame-haired Canelo, however, believes that he is someone who has had the easy route and is riding on the coattails of his father’s success.

“My fans know that I started from nothing, from the bottom up, from zero, and have worked my way up with a lot of sweat and sacrifices.

“He has his fans, as well. But I think a lot of his fans are more his father’s fans than his, and his fans follow his father, what his father says, because he’s shown a lot of ups and downs in his career, and he himself has not had a real disciplined career,” said Canelo.

“He is not a role model for the young children and the young fighters. And you know what, I’ve always said, whether I have 1,000, 5,000, 20,000 or millions, I’m very fortunate. I’m very happy and I’m very appreciative of my fans and I’ll give them 100 percent all the time,” he said.
