GOLOVKIN SET FOR TOUGHEST TEST WHILE CONLAN PREPARES FOR ST PATRICK’S DAY DEBUT LIVE ON BOXNATION

LONDON (March 17, 2017) – Pound-for-pound ace Gennady Golovkin knows he will be in his toughest fight to date when he takes on knockout king Danny Jacobs on Saturday night.

The Kazakh warrior faces cancer survivor and the hard-hitting Jacobs, who has stopped 29 of his 32 opponents, exclusively live on BoxNation this weekend from the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Despite being one of the world’s most formidable punchers and boxers around, with a record of 36 wins unbeaten, with 33 of those by knockout, 34-year-old WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight world champion Golovkin is refusing to overlook Jacobs.

“He is a very good fighter and maybe has a little bit more power than me. He has big power and he is a very good boxer,” said Golovkin.

“Of course I feel that I have power and it is very important to me and I can feel the power in my punches. I get that from hard work and practice.

”Sometimes though it is not just power. It has a lot to do with timing and distance. It is not all in the punch.

“This is my first fight of the year and he is a tough guy and a great fighter and I am very excited for this fight and this year.

“He is one of the most dangerous for me. He is very good in the ring. He is a good boxer with good technique. I respect him too, he is a very good man,” he said.

Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez is also well aware that his man cannot go into the fight underestimating 30-year-old Jacobs, who has the ability to put any opponent in his weight class to sleep.

He is of the belief that this fight is more of a threat to the unified champion than a showdown with Mexican star Canelo Alvarez.

“I think that [he is a bigger threat than Canelo] he has got one punch power. There is the chance he will knock you out – he is a big dude,” said Sanchez.

“Canelo is more of a combination puncher but they are both very good fighters. Both Canelo and Jacobs have fights coming up and Canelo has the bigger guy on May 6 and we will be able to tell then who is the bigger and stronger guy,” he said.

Also tonight, exclusively live on BoxNation, will be the debut of Irish Olympic sensation Michael Conlan who starts his professional career at the ‘Mecca of Boxing’ – Madison Square Garden on St Patrick’s Day against Tim Ibarra.

Conlan will be walked to the ring by UFC superstar and fellow countryman Conor McGregor and is equally ambitious as the brash Dubliner as he looks to go down as the best Irish fighter of all time.

“My goal is to be the best Irish fighter of all time. Tim [Ibarra] and I both have to put bread on the table and we’ll be working hard to do that Friday night. I am going to have to knock him out,” said Conlan.

“Over 2,000 fans are flying in from Ireland to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and my pro debut. I never dreamed this would be happening to me, that it was even possible – headlining in my pro debut at the Mecca of Boxing.

“I am taking this whole experience in. I revel in it. It’s going to be electric when Conor McGregor carry’s the tricolor [flag] and walks me into the ring,” he said.

BoxNation will be the only place to watch all this action live this weekend with Conlan headlining a fantastic fight card tonight, before Golovkin takes on Jacobs on Saturday night, with the phenomenal Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez part of a stacked bill.

Golovkin v Jacobs & Conlan v Ibarra are exclusively live on BoxNation. Buy now at boxnation.com.

Middleweight prospect Ball returns for eighth bout in 11 months against unbeaten Air Force vet Christy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (March 17th, 2017) — Fighting for the eighth time since making his professional debut in May, middleweight Kendrick Ball Jr. of Worcester, Mass., returns to Twin River Casino next month in another intriguing battle of unbeatens.

Ball Jr. (5-0-2, 4 KOs) puts his undefeated record on the line Friday, April 7th, 2017 against Cranston, R.I., native and nearby Warwick resident Zachary Christy (1-0-1), a decorated U.S. Air Force vet who fights for the first time since September of 2014.

The six-round Ball Jr.-Christy bout highlights the undercard of CES Boxing’s World Boxing Council U.S. National Boxing Council (WBC USNBC) Welterweight Championship main event between Nick DeLomba (11-1, 2 KOs) and Jimmy Williams (12-0-1, 5 KOs).

The always-ready Ball Jr. faces his third undefeated opponent; he battled Connecticut’s 5-0 David Wilson to a draw in July and later fought to a draw against 9-0-1 Nathan Millier in December. Last month, Ball scored his fifth win as a pro and fourth career knockout in just 29 seconds against last-minute replacement Patrick Leal when his original opponent, Kenneth Glenn, withdrew due to injury.

A staff sergeant for the U.S. Air Force for nearly a decade, Christy, 31, fought sporadically as an amateur due to his military travels, which included multiple deployments to Afghanistan and Kuwait. While stationed in Tampa, Fla., Christy briefly trained at the St. Pete Boxing Club under Dan Birmingham, who helped guide Winky Wright and Keith Thurman to world titles.

The Cranston native began his boxing career in Rhode Island at the age of 15 under the guidance of the late Tiny Ricci.

Tickets for April 7th are priced at $47.00, $102.00, $127.00 (VIP) and $152.00 (VIP) and can be purchased online at www.cesboxing.com, www.twinriver.com or www.ticketmaster.com, by phone at 401-724-2253/2254 or at the Twin River Casino Players Club. All fights and fighters are subject to change.

In addition to the highly-anticipated championship main event, April 7th features an eight-round female welterweight showdown between Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes (16-4-2, 1 KO) of Marshfield, Mass., and Mexican challenger Paty Ramirez (11-3, 5 KOs), plus a New England Lightweight Title bout between Springfield, Mass., vet Zack Ramsey (7-1, 3 KOs) and unbeaten Augusta, Ga., native Divante Jones (9-0, 6 KOs).

Unbeaten New Bedford, Mass., junior middleweight Ray Oliveira Jr. (7-0, 1 KO) faces his toughest test to date in the six-round co-feature bout against Portland, Maine native Casey Kramlich (6-0-1, 3 KOs) in Kramlich’s Twin River debut.

The DeLomba-Williams title bout marks a historic anniversary for CES Boxing, which, in addition to celebrating its 25th year in boxing, hosts a USNBC championship bout 12 years after being the first promoter to do so in 2005 when Joey Spina defeated Carl Daniels in Providence.

The 27-year-old DeLomba, a Cranston native, has won his last three bouts since suffering his first and only loss in 2015, while New Haven, Conn., vet Williams, 30, originally from Plainfield, N.J., has only one blemish on his record, a draw against Greg Jackson in 2013. He’s won his last eight, including knockouts against Christian Lao and Eddie Caminero and a hard-fought unanimous decision win over veteran Manny Woods at Twin River in May.

Joining Aleksandra Lopes on April 7th is her stepson, Arturo Lopes (1-0), who ends an eight-year layoff in his return bout against Taunton, Mass., welterweight Marqus Bates (1-1, 1 KO). The Lopeses fight April 7th in honor of the late Manny Lopes, a former CES standout who passed away in December and will be inducted into the CES Ring of Honor.

Worcester, Mass., lightweight Jamaine Ortiz (3-0, 2 KOs), fresh off a hard-fought win over unbeaten Canton Miller in February, faces another undefeated challenger in a four-round bout against Glenn Mitchell (2-0, 2 KOs) of Steubenville, Ohio, and Lynn, Mass., welterweight Khiry Todd (2-0, 2 KOs) battles Philadelphia’s Vincent Floyd (2-2-1) in a four-round bout.

Junior welterweight Jonathan Figueroa (2-0, 1 KO) of Hartford, Conn., returns to Twin River to face Springfield’s Miguel Ortiz (1-0, 1 KO) in a four-round showdown between two rising New England prospects and amateur standouts Ricky Delossantos of Providence, R.I., and Philip Davis of Worcester make their professional debuts against one another in a four-round super featherweight bout.

Junior welterweight Cristobal Marrero (3-0, 2 KOs) of New London, Conn., by way of Worcester, returns for the first time since December in a four-round bout against New York’s Sidney Maccow (4-4, 3 KOs).

CATTERALL: “GETHIN’S STYLE IS PERFECT FOR ME!”

Chorley’s Jack Catterall says Martin Gethin’s aggressive style will be his downfall when the 140lbs rivals clash next month.

Classy Catterall defends his WBO Inter-Continental Super-Lightweight strap against warrior Gethin at the Manchester Arena on Saturday 8th April.

Heavy handed Catterall’s all-action style has taken him to an unbeaten 17 fight record, claiming the Central Area, WBO European and Inter-Continental belts on the way

Now the slick southpaw is looking to make a statement against Gethin before targeting mouth-watering domestic dustups with the likes of WBC Silver Champion Ohara Davies, WBA Continental champ Robbie Davies Jr and British Super-Lightweight boss Tyrone Nurse.

“Martin is coming off a good win and I can’t wait to get stuck into him,” said Catterall. “I never look past any opponent but winning this fight will open up a lot of doors for me. There are some big fights out there at both domestic and international level.

“He has been a good domestic fighter over the years and has some decent wins to his name. I know he will be heading into our fight full of confidence after his bloodbath against John Wayne Hibbert but I’m levels above him and it will show on the night.

“Martin is a come forward fighter who likes to try and break his opponents down with relentless pressure. His style is perfect for me, I’ll be able to find chinks in his armour and if he keeps coming at me it’s going to be a painful night for him!”

Catterall’s showdown with Gethin lands on the undercard of undefeated Terry Flanagan’s fifth WBO World Lightweight Title defence against dangerous Russian Petr Petrov; fierce Super-Welterweight rivals Liam Smith and Liam Williams clash in one of the most eagerly-anticipated all-British showdowns in recent times; double Olympic Gold Medallist and women’s boxing icon Nicola Adams OBE fights for the first time as a professional and former Team GB Heavyweight monster Daniel Dubois makes his highly-anticipated professional debut

Tickets for April 8 priced £50, £70, £100, £150, £200, £300 and VIP £500 are available from eventim at www.eventim.co.uk and 0844 249 1000 and the Manchester Arena at www.manchester-arena.com and 0844 847 8000.

BELLOTTI: I’LL THRIVE UNDER HEADLINING PRESSURE

Reece Bellotti says he’ll thrive under the pressure of his first headline show tonight as he takes on Dai Davies in an eliminator for the British Featherweight title in the first of the JDNXTGEN series at York Hall, Bethnal Green, live on Sky Sports Facebook and Sky Sports 1.

Bellotti has raced to 8-0 in the paid ranks and ended seven of those fights early and the 26 year old is looking for another early night to kick off a big year in his career in style.

The Bomber can take a giant step towards the Lord Lonsdale belt by beating Davies in east London, but with the 33 year old Welshman holding bags of experience from his 40 pro outings, Bellotti knows he is in for the toughest night in the paid ranks yet.

“I’ve never topped the bill as a pro and that is something I’ll have to overcome, but I am not fazed by it in any way and I can’t wait to perform,” said Bellotti

“He’s got a lot more experience than me and he’s probably boxed people at this stage in their career so he will know what to do.

“It is a stepping stone I have to go on towards the British title. Every fighter when he first starts out wants to win a British title, and more titles down the line.

“I know it is going to be a tough fight. Davies has done well in his recent fights, so it won’t be easy.

“By the end of this year I want to have boxed for the British title and have won it. I want to keep developing as a boxer.

“He will be a lot more ring-savvy than me and know some tricks I haven’t seen before. There could be things which happen on the night which I will have to deal with.

“I prefer the longer rounds and it works both ways. If you have a couple of bad rounds, you have time to recover and the longer it goes the more you wear your opponent out.

“Because of the knockouts, people assume you are going to go looking and I did the opposite against Ian Bailey, because it suited that fight.

“We went in with a game plan to use my feet and show a bit more of my ability and it worked. I got the stoppage so it worked.

“I can do the same with Dai Davies, but also mix it up a bit more to get the win.”

Bellotti’s clash with Davies tops the first JDNXTGEN show with young gun Craig Richards faces fellow unbeaten Londoner Alan Higgins for the Southern Area Super-Middleweight title.

Isaac Chamberlain returns to action at the scene of his fantastic Southern Area Cruiserweight title win over Wadi Camacho in September, where Chamberlain prevailed on points having dislocated his shoulder, Paul Hyland Jr faces Peter Cope over eight rounds, and there’s also action on the bill for Ben Hall, Felix Cash, Jake Ball and Danny Dignum.

Limited tickets remain on sale now priced £40 (unreserved) and £60 (ringside) and are available here: https://www.stubhub.co.uk/matchroom-boxing-tickets-matchroom-presents–a-night-of-boxing-at-york-hall-london-york-hall-17-3-2017/event/9821976/?gcid=chPrt-_-geoUK-_-genboxing-_-cpgyorkhall17-_-partmatchroom

TURBO BACKS SMITH TO OUTPOINT WILLIAMS

Unbeaten WBO Lightweight Champion of the World Terry Flanagan is backing Liverpool’s Liam Smith to outpoint bitter rival Liam Williams when they clash at the Manchester Arena on Saturday 8th April, live on BT Sport and BoxNation.

Flanagan makes the fifth defence of his crown against chiselled Russian Petr Petrov and is promising no slip-ups against the WBO no.2 ranked contender. The Manchester star admits he will be keeping an eye on Smith and William’s mouthwatering showdown before taking to the ring himself.

“It’s gonna be a great fight to get ‘em warmed up for my main event!” said Flanagan.”Liam Smith is a slight favourite going into the fight.

“His shot selection is probably the best of any boxer in Britain. He’s very good at everything he does. ‘Canelo’ just happened to be another level above him. Alvarez is pound-for-pound, ain’t he?

“Williams is tough, strong and can bang you out with either hand but if you’re forcing me to put a pound on it, I’ll go with Smith on points.”

Smith vs. Williams is part of an unmissable evening of action on April 8th; local hero Terry Flanagan makes the fifth defence of his WBO World Lightweight crown against dangerous Russian Petr Petrov; double Olympic Gold Medallist and women’s boxing icon Nicola Adams OBE fights for the first time as a professional and former Team GB Heavyweight monster Daniel Dubois makes his highly-anticipated professional debut.

Tickets for April 8 priced £50, £70, £100, £150, £200, £300 and VIP £500 are available from eventim at www.eventim.co.uk and 0844 249 1000 and the Manchester Arena at www.manchester-arena.com and 0844 847 8000.

The JDNXTGEN series will produce relaxed and fast paced programming for fight fans and give the stars of tomorrow the chance to progress under the bright lights with significant TV exposure as they look to essentially graduate into Saturday Night Fight Night and PPV cards at some of the biggest venues in the World.”

TOP PHILADELPHIA TALENT TO BE SHOWCASED AT PHILLY STRONG, MARCH 31ST AT 2300 ARENA

Philadelphia – March 16, 2017 – Victory Boxing Promotions returns to the City of Brotherly Love March 31st with a professional boxing card stacked with top Philadelphia prospects, and elite talent from across the country.

In the main event, Jaron “Boots” Ennis (9-0, 8KO) seeks to secure his 10th straight win since his professional debut just ten months ago. One of boxing’s busiest and most highly-touted prospects, Ennis knocked out the more experienced Elvin Perez (28-17-4, 19KO) inside of a minute in his January outing, also at 2300 Arena.

In the co-main event, boxer and Philadelphia Police Officer Manny Folly (9-0, 7KO) will return in the featherweight division. Folly, who was seemingly in tough when he faced Mexico’s Carlos Morgan (13-5, 6KO), made quick work of his opponent in January, stopping Morgan with a sensational knockout punch in the first round.

Also on the card, Philadelphia super bantamweight Angel Pizarro (2-0, 1KO) looks for his third win. Pizarro, who has a large following in Philadelphia, is stepping into the ring for the first time this year. He last fought in October, scoring a technical knockout win over Maurice Adams, Jr.

Junior Welterweight Keenan “Killer” Smith (10-0, 4KO) will fight on the card, along with his cousin, Donald Smith (4-0, 3KO) in separate bouts. Donald Smith’s last outing, on Victory Boxing’s January card at 2300 Arena, ended with a fourth round TKO knockout over Christopher Nelson.

Joshua Jones ( 3-0-1, 2KO) returns at lightweight, along with super welterweight Elijah Vines (3-0, 3KO), also of Philadelphia. Fan favorite, light heavyweight Darren Goodall, whose New Jersey crowd had the walls of 2300 arena shaking in January, will join the Philadelphia contingent on the card, and Baltimore’s Mack Allison (7-0, 7KO) will look to keep his perfect record intact.

Victory Boxing Promotions super-prospect Adam Daranyi (10-0, 10KO), of Canada, made quick work of Lenwood Dozier in January, and he returns at welterweight on the 31st. Fellow Victory Boxing prospect Brandun Lee will also see welterweight action in his second professional bout.

Top amateur Christian Montano, who made headlines earlier this month when he signed with top manager Cameron Dunkin, will make his anticipated professional debut at light heavyweight. The young fighter is expected to stay busy in the coming months.

Tickets for Philly Strong begin at $40 and are available at victoryboxingpromotions.com or by calling 602-540-5075. Doors to 2300 Arena open at 6:00 and first bell is at 7:00 p.m.

Final Quotes Before Michael Conlan’s Pro Debut at The Garden

NEW YORK (March 16, 2017) — It is T-Minus ONE DAY and counting until Ireland’s Olympic hero MICHAEL “MICK” CONLAN celebrates St. Patrick’s Day by making his professional debut — headlining a special card at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Conlan’s pro debut, which will be as a featherweight, in a six-round bout against Tim Ibarra (4-4, 1 KO), of Denver, is set for the evening of Friday, March 17, at the “O’Mecca of Boxing.” And to put an exclamation point on the occasion, fellow countryman and UFC superstar and lightweight champion Conor McGregor has accepted Conlan’s invitation to walk him into the ring!

The main event bouts will be televised in the U.S. on UniMás and Univision Deportes, beginning at 11 p.m. ET / PT; live to the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland via Box Nation and live to Brasil via SporTV. Ireland will also have access to a primetime delay via RTE.

MICHAEL CONLAN:

“My goal is to be the best Irish fighter of all time. Tim [Ibarra] and I both have to put bread on the table and we’ll be working hard to do that Friday night. I am going to have to knock him out. Over 2,000 fans are flying in from Ireland to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and my pro debut. I never dreamed this would be happening to me, that it was even possible — headlining in my pro debut at the Mecca of Boxing. I am taking this whole experience in. I revel in it. It’s going to be electric when Conor McGregor carry’s the tricolor [flag] and walks me into the ring.”

BOB ARUM

“St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland and last summer, Mick Conlan drove the snakes out of AIBA and the Olympics. He stood up for himself at the Olympics and the world stood up with him when he cheated out of his dream. He’s a phenomenon. We are going to build his career to monster proportions. We have reserved The Garden for the next five St. Patrick’s Days for Mick. The St Patrick’s Day parade starts here.”

MATTHEW MACKLIN

“The Irish and UK media are treating this fight like a world championship event. He’s on every front page.”

TIM IBARRA

“This will not be an easy fight for Conlan. I’m going to teach him that there is a big difference between amateurs and professionals. I’m going to rain on his St. Patrick’s Day parade.”

*********************************

Conlan joins an elite group of fellow Olympic medalists, including George Foreman, Evander Holyfield and Jermaine Taylor, to make his professional debut on boxing’s most hallowed ground. But Conlan is the only one to make his debut as the main event. Over 500 fans from Ireland have purchased tickets and are expected to be in attendance, rooting on the man who drove the snakes out of the Olympics last summer.

The card will also feature junior lightweight ROBSON CONCEICAO (2-0, 1 KO), the first Brazilian boxer to win Olympic gold (2016), and undefeated welterweight contender ALEX SAUCEDO (23-0, 14 KOs) of Oklahoma City, in separate bouts.

Super Welterweight Star Vanes Norikovich Martirosyan Signs Promotional Deal With Legendary Boxing Promoter Don King

Deerfield Beach, FL (March 16, 2017) – Eight-time national champion and former Gold Gloves champion Vanes Norkovich Martirosyan has signed a promotional contract with world-renowned Hall of Fame boxing promoter Don King.

King’s fighters have a busy next three months with Isaac Ekpo heading to Berlin, Germany to battle Tyron Zeuge for the WBA Super Middleweight championship on March 25; Amir Imam battling Terence Crawford in May for the super lightweight title; and Charles Hatley facing Jermell Charlo on May 27 in Oxon, Maryland for the WBC super welterweight mandatory title defense.

King also promotes former heavyweight world champion Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 Kos), a Haiti native living in Las Vegas, who is scheduled to face heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in a WBC mandatory title defense.

The 30-year-Martirosyan, who hails from Glendale, CA, has a professional record of 36-3-1 with 21 knockouts. He represented the United States in the 2004 Olympics. He secured a spot on the U.S. team by beating Haiti’s Andre Berto in a qualifying tournament. Vanes was on the same Olympic team with Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell. Notable boxers he beat as an amateur included Austin Trout (three times), Berto and Tim Bradley. In the Olympics, he won his first bout convincingly, 45-20 against Algeria’s Benamar Meskine, but lost to Cuba’s Lorenzo Aragon Armenteros, 20-11 in the second round.

“I’m thrilled to sign with the legendary Don King,” said Martirosyan. “I’m certain Don will guide my career in the right direction and in doing so, will get me another chance to become a world champion.”

King is the architect and impresario behind the legendary The Rumble In the Jungle and Thrilla in Manila and countless other historic classic boxing events.

“Vanes Norkovich Martirosyan is an unbelievable fighter, who is knocking on the door to reach his goal of becoming a world champion,” said King. “He is in the prime of his boxing career and I’m excited to be working with Vanes and his team.”

Nicknamed the Nightmare, Martirosyan made his professional debut in April of 2005, when he beat Jesse Orta in a four-round unanimous decision.

Vanes won 25 straight fights and finally received a title shot on Dec. 19, 2009, when he stopped Willie Lee at 2:13 of the third round to take the NABF, WBO and NABO light middleweight titles.

He won the WBC Silver light middleweight title with an unbelievable comeback win against Saul Roman, who he knocked out at 2:58 of the 7th round on June 4, 2011. He suffered his first loss in 34 fights on Nov. 9, 2013 to Demetrius Andrade for the WBO light middleweight title.

His last fight was his third loss of his career as he lost a unanimous decision on May 21, 2016 to Erislandy Lara for the WBA and IBO light middleweight titles. Vanes had previously had a draw with Lara after an accidental head butt.

Introducing Austin “The Dream” Dulay

Nashville, TN (March 16, 2017) – On paper, lightweight Austin “The Dream” Dulay’s record is parallel to many up and coming fighters.

The Henderson, TN native is 8-0 with 6 knockouts, five of which came in the opening round. He’s been matched properly as he continues to gain experience in the paid ranks. What sets the skillful Dulay apart from other prospects from the south however is his success as an amateur and time spent in the gym with some of boxing’s best trainers and fighters.

As an amateur, Dulay won more than 120 fights, losing just 13 times. He was a two-time Regional Golden Gloves champion, former Regional Boxer of the Year and captured a silver medal at the Junior Olympics. More recently, Dulay got tremendous experience during a six month stint in California where he trained at the Robert Garcia Boxing Academy.

During that time, he sparred with then featherweight champion Jesus Cuellar, current pound for pound star Mikey Garcia and lightweight contender Ivan Redkach. He also worked out with Virgil Hunter while on the west coast. He considers his time with Garcia and Hunter, both Trainer of the Year winners, invaluable.

On Friday evening, Dulay looks to run his record to 9-0 when he meets hard-nosed Cincinnati, OH based veteran Micah Branch in a six round contest. The fight headlines Tri-Star Boxing’s “St Paddy’s Day Fight at the Fairgrounds” at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds Sports Arena in Nashville, TN.

Branch has never been knocked out and faced a plethora of quality fighters, making each of them work for a victory. A knockout over Branch would be nice however the ultimate goal is for Dulay to separate himself from other up and comers by showcasing his all-around skills.

“I have no doubt that Austin is a very good prospect,” said Matt Young, CEO of Tri-Star Boxing. “While it is true that some fighters build their records for an extended period of time because they haven’t developed their skills, Austin’s got a great amateur pedigree. He sparred with multiple world champions and took instruction from two of the best boxing trainers on the planet. I believe once the fans see him fight any stigmas attached to being a boxer based in the south go out the window.”

The Dulay-Branch fight tops a six bout card beginning at 7 pm. Tickets from $25 are on sale now by going to tristarboxing.com/tickets.

Undefeated former Canadian Olympian, Custio Clayton added to April 15th Liveco Boxing event in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada

Thousand Palms, California (March 16, 2017) – Undefeated welterweight prospect Custio Clayton has been added to a tremendous night of boxing on Saturday, April 15th at the Cornwall Civic Complex in Cornwall, Ontario, when he takes on Alfredo Chavez in the eight-round co-feature bout.

The event, which is promoted by Liveco Boxing, will feature Cornwall’s own Tony Luis battling Noe Nunez in a 10-round lightweight clash.

Clayton of Montreal, Quebec, was a 2012 Canadian Olympian, and has raced out to an umblemished mark of 10-0 with eight knockouts.

Clayton has faced ambitious competition in his first 10 bouts, which has inlcuded wins over the likes of Eduards Gerasimovs (5-1-1), Ivan Pereyra (20-5), Stanislas Salmon (25-3-2), and in his last bout, Clayton stopped Ramses Agaton (17-4-3) in eight rounds on October 20th in Montreal.

Chavez of Mexico has a record of 12-8 with 10 knockouts.

The dangerous Chavez has some quality wins on his resume as he holds victories over Johnny Navarrete (10-0-1), Manolis Plaitis (15-0-1), Rodolfo Ezequiel Martinez (40-7-1), and Alejandro Chavez (5-1). The 31 year-old Chavez is looking to get back in the win column after dropping two straight to undefeated fighters. In his last bout, Chavez was stopped by Jamie Munguia on October 22nd in Tijuana, Mexico.

In a highly-anticipated undercard bout, Akwesasne native son, Ronnie “Rocket” Robidoux (2-0, 2 KOs) looks to keep his perfect professional record intact, facing the rugged Jesus Ortega of Mexico over 4-rounds. Robidoux, who trains in Cornwall under the tutelage of Jorge Luis, looks to add another knockout win to the record after a stunning knockout victory over Donnis Reed in California last month.

Ireland’s “Lethal” Larry Fryers (2-0, 1 KO), now residing in upstate New York, is set to clash against Mexico’s Michel Polina in a 4-round Welterweight bout. Fryers, who seeks to build on last month’s punishing knockout of Rolando Padilla, is one of the most exciting young prospects in boxing. His relentless aggression and fighting style will surely not disappoint.

More undercard bouts will be announced shortly.

Tickets, which are selling quickly for the April 15th event start at only $25.00. They can be purchased online at www.admission.com, by phone (613) 938-9400, or in person at the Cornwall Civic Complex box office. Doors open at 6:30 PM with the first bout scheduled for 8:00 PM.

TRAVIS KAUFFMAN

“This is a fight that has been building for a while. There will be fireworks in the ring on Friday night.

“I accepted this fight because of the caliber of fighter that Amir is. Come fight night, it is going to be a war.

“I made a lot of sacrifices for this fight. We have prepared for the best Mansour to show up in the ring. I can’t fall asleep for five seconds in this fight or else I can get stopped. I think that Amir is one of the most feared and avoided heavyweights in the world.”

AMIR MANSOUR

“I got myself a bottle of anti-aging juice. I’m ready for this fight and excited to give the fans another show.

“I love boxing. I don’t fight bums. I love to make sparks fly every time I step in there. Everyone knows what they’re going to see on Friday night.

“This is a great opportunity for me as I continue my quest for the heavyweight championship of the world. Travis is a tough guy, and he has a scientist in his corner, but it won’t be enough on Friday.

NAAZIM RICHARDSON, Kauffman’s Trainer

“Mansour is one word…dangerous. He is dangerous at all times.

“This is not a comfortable fight. You have to be prepared to deal with a man like Mansour. We put together a plan to negate his attributes.

“I am trying to fine tune Travis’ weapons. The Arreola fight opened eyes, this fight will open doors.”

DANNY DAVIS, Mansour’s Trainer

“Amir and Travis have sparred each other in the past and those sessions were very exciting and I’m expecting that same type of action in the ring on Friday night.

“This is going to be a great heavyweight brawl. These styles are going to clash for something great for the fans.”

The exciting Australian Super Middleweight was once again very impressive in his last outing as he dominated Liam Cameron on route to capturing the vacant British Empire Commonwealth Super Middleweight crown. That bout was on November 25, 2016 at the same Melbourne Pavilion.

Dunn is currently rated #5 by the WBC, IBF, and WBO and has become a big attraction in his native Australia consistently selling out his fights. Dunn has fought his last 4 fights in his native Australia and has kept up a very busy schedule this being his 5th fight in a little more than a year’s time.

Dunn promoter Joe DeGuardia had this to say about Zac’s upcoming fight “Zac Dunn is a throwback fighter who loves to stay active. He is defending his British Empire title for the 1st time against a highly skilled boxer in Dave Brophy. YAFAI DEFENDS WORLD CROWN AGAINST MURANAKA

Kal Yafai will defend his WBA World Super-Flyweight title against Suguru Muranaka at the Barclaycard Arena on May 13, live on Sky Sports – where Sam Eggington also challenges Cerefino Rodriguez for the European Welterweight title on a stacked bill.

Yafai became Birmingham’s first World champion when he landed the crown with a clinical showing against Luis Concepcion in Manchester in December.

The unbeaten 27 year old will defend on home soil against Japan’s Muranaka, the 32 year old former Japanese Flyweight champion who boxes outside of Tokyo for the first time in his 13 year career.

Yafai extended his unbeaten record in the pro game to 21-0 when he landed the title – but now believes he’s starting a new career as a World champion, with a target on his back from his first defence as he targets unification bouts down the line.

“It’s a tough first defence and that’s what I need,” said Yafai. “I want hard fights that are going to help me when I face unification fights.

“This is what I started boxing for. I wanted massive nights in Birmingham and it doesn’t get better for me. It’s been amazing since winning the title. Every time I’m walking around the city I get stopped for photos and for autographs – but I know that it’s harder to keep a title than it is to win it, so the real work is only just beginning.”

Chief support comes from Eggington’s European title crack at Rodriguez, the Spaniard that landed the vacant title in December. Eggington is full of confidence heading into the bout having stopped former two-weight World champion Paulie Malignaggi at The O2, and the hard-hitting 23 year old wants to build on his wins over Malignaggi and Frankie Gavin with another prize scalp.

“I have real hunger back after losing to Bradley Skeete and this is massive for me as I never thought I’d reach this level,” said Eggington.

“I had to learn a lot after Skeete. I have grown up and come back strong with wins over Frankie and Paulie. If I can add a win over Rodriguez to those two names and then defend the title well, people will start talking about World titles and I think that I’ve earned the right to be in the conversation for them.”

Gavin returns to action following his fight of the year battle with Eggington and ‘Funtime’ is taking the first steps to move down to fight at Super-Lightweight by taking on Derby’s Dave Ryan in a crunch clash made at 145lbs, while Yafai’s younger brother Gamal takes on WBC International Super-Bantamweight champion Sean Davis.

Unbeaten talents Ryan Kelly and Adam Harper clash for the Midlands Area Middleweight title and there’s more local interest with Lennox Clarke, Jordan Clayton, Charlie Williams and Cori Gibbs in action.
