Trey Lippe-Morrison Headlines Saturday in Miami, OK

Miami, OK (January 22, 2016) – Heavyweight sensation Trey Lippe-Morrison will compete in his final six round contest when he faces Thomas Hawkins in the main event of a Holden Productions card at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, OK.

Coming from the talent laden city of Houston, TX Hawkins has a 4-1 record with one win by knockout. Although he will enter tomorrow’s fight as the underdog, he sees it as added motivation to spoil future plans for Lippe-Morrison.

“When nobody expects you to win, it puts all of the pressure on your opponent. I’ve seen film on Trey and he’s a tough kid. My trainer knew his father well and Trey is a straight forward fighter just like his dad. As long as I work on what we did in training, we expect to win!”

Perfect as a pro with ten wins all by knockout, Lippe-Morrison’s jaw-dropping power has drawn comparisons to his father. Currently training under the tutelage of Freddie Roach at the Wild Card Boxing Club, the popular Vinita, OK native has huge expectations in boxing circles but must first get past Hawkins.

“It feels good to be moving up from six to eight rounds if all goes as planned,” said Lippe-Morrison. “I don’t know much about Hawkins outside of some footage I saw on YouTube where he appeared to be a patient and smart fighter that will make you pay for mistakes. My plan is to box him and get rounds in. I never go for knockouts they just happen to come.”

“Trey is the real deal and I plan to put him in big fights within the next year,” said promoter Tony Holden. “We are going to keep stepping him up and hope to get him rounds but he continues to knock out every man in front of him. I have no doubt that Trey Lippe-Morrison is the next American heavyweight star.”

Highlighting the undercard will be Lippe-Morrison’s “Four State Franchise” stablemates in separate bouts. Along with Lippe-Morrison, the Four State Franchise has fought in front of standing room only crowds on multiple occasions.

Bartlesville, OK based welterweight Jarrett “The Legacy” Rouse will look to make it 9-0 when he squares off with Arkansas’ Juan Parra over six stanzas.

Welterweight Jesse Cook of Seneca, MO aims for his sixteenth victory but Corpus Christi, TX’s John David Charles will attempt pull off the upset and win for the second time in three bouts. Cook and Charles will do battle over six rounds.

In a six round special attraction junior middleweight bout, unbeaten Nathan Gallimore travels from Evanston, IL to put his 10-0-1 ledger on the line against 34 fight veteran Rahman Yusubov of Texas.

“The Four State Franchise continues to impress in the ring and the demand for them is unlike anything I’ve seen since I promoted Tommy Morrison,” said Holden. “All of these guys can fight and I look forward to seeing them in bigger bouts in the near future.”

GARCIA AND GUERRERO READY FOR LATINO SHOOT-OUT LIVE ON BOXNATION

Danny Garcia
Latino rivals Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero are all set to go to war tomorrow night in their Vacant WBC World Welterweight title showdown, televised exclusively live in the UK on BoxNation from 1am.

Garcia and Guerrero collide at the famous Staples Centre in Los Angeles with Floyd Mayweather’s former title up for grabs and British hero Amir Khan looking to face the winner next.

It pits the fiercely proud fighting nations of Puerto Rico and Mexico head-to-head once again with Garcia of American-Puerto Rican decent and Guerrero of Mexican-American heritage in the potential thriller.

The fight exploded into life this week when Garcia and Guerrero nearly came to blows at the press conference, but it wasn’t the two silent but battled hardened warriors, it was their fathers, who are also their trainers.

“He (Angel) wants to act like he is, but he’s not. They ought to let us go for a round, but then they’ll have to stop it because I’ll hurt him. I will hurt him.” stormed Ruben Guerrero, a former professional fighter in the 1980s.

“(Ruben) is going to remember Jan. 23 for the rest of his life. It’s going to be his new new year.” Retaliated Angel Garcia.

Former four-time world champion Garcia says he’s fired up for his shoot-out against Guerrero and feels fantastic at 147 pounds after moving up from 140 pounds where he struggled to make the weight and risked his unbeaten record against Mauricio Herrera last March.

“I feel a lot better. I’m happier now. When I fought at 140, I was always mean while trying to cut weight. I was never in a good mood,”

“I feel blessed. It’s an opportunity for me to kick off the year in nice fashion, and to be in the first big fight of the year in the headliner. I can’t wait to get in there and showcase my skills.”

“This is another fight that is going to make me a bigger star.” Said Philadelphian Garcia.

Guerrero, out of Gilroy, California, will put everything on the line in a final shot at glory against Garcia. He’s lost two of his last four fight, but that was against superstars Floyd Mayweather Jnr and Keith Thurman and he ended both fights on his feet.

“Having the world title on the line just adds fuel to the fire,” he said. “We’ll find out Saturday night how it all plays out.” Said Guerrero.

The action packed card will also include unbeaten welterweight prospect Sammy Vasquez Jr. facing hard veteran Aron Martinez, plus heavyweight hope Dominic Breazeale takes on Amir Mansour.

UNDEFEATED DIEGO DE LA HOYA TO HEADLINE LA FIGHT CLUB ON FEBRUARY 19 IN A BATTLE AGAINST ARTURO BADILLO AIRING LIVE ON ESTRELLA TV

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 22, 2016) – Undefeated boxing legacy and fan-favorite Diego De La Hoya (13-0, 7 KOs) will make his first appearance of 2016 in the ring on Friday, February 19 as the main event on Estrella TV’s Boxeo Estelar against former world title contender Arturo “Fuerte” Badillo (21-9, 19 KOs) at The Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

“Diego De La Hoya had a phenomenal year in 2015 and in 2016, I think we will see him to continue to rise in the sport and become a top contender,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Diego has had strong numbers for his televised fights, which is a great indication that the fans love him and will want to see more of him in the ring this year.”

In the televised co-main event of the evening, Carlos “The Solution” Morales (12-1-3, 6 KOs) will face Omar “Héroe” Tienda (14-2, 8 KOs) of Nuevo León, Mexico in a 10-round super featherweight bout. Fighting in the non-televised undercard but streaming live on RING TV, Joet Gonzalez (13-0, 6 KOs) of Glendora, Calif. will participate in an eight-round featherweight bout; Los Angeles fan favorite Nick Arce (6-0, 6 KOs) will face the battle tested Luis “Lichito” Lizarraga Jr. (5-7-1, 2 KOs) of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico in a six-round super featherweight battle; and opening up the night Francisco Esparza (2-0) fighting out of Fernando Vargas’ Feroz Fight Factory in Las Vegas will fight in a four-round featherweight bout. Opponents will be announced shortly.

Diego De La Hoya has thrilled fans with his impressive boxing skills since making his professional debut in 2013. Fighting with power, the Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico native has stayed busy in 2015 with an impressive victory over world title contender Manuel “Suavecito” Roman at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in February and defeating Ramiro “Zurdo” Robles in his first appearance at LA FIGHT CLUB in May. The rising star followed up with quick victories over Jose “Hollywood” Estrella in July, former world title challenger Jesus “Estrella” Ruiz in September to capture the WBC Youth Super Bantamweight Title, and Giovanni “Lloviznas” Delgado in November. De La Hoya will make his highly anticipated return to the ring for 2016 as he defends his undefeated status on February 19.

Arturo “Fuerte” Badillo made his professional debut March 24, 2007 in Sinaloa, Mexico with a spectacular knockout win in the first round over Adan Garcia. From that point on, Badillo had a series of wins and suffered his first loss on April 10, 2010 when he fought for the WBC Fecarbox Flyweght Title. Badillo bounced back from the lone loss and climbed his way up the boxing ranks quickly to fight for the WBA Super Flyweight World Championship in July 2011. Not succeeding in his first world title attempt, Badillo has continued on his search for victory staying consistently busy in 2015. Most recently, Badillo was seen in the ring against former IBF Super Bantamweight World Champion Jhonatan “Mo Mo” Romero. Badillo will look to get back on track with a tough battle against Diego De La Hoya on February 19.

A three-year professional, Carlos “The Solution” Morales got off to a shaky start in his career in 2012, but once the calendar shifted to 2013, “The Solution” has been unstoppable winning 10 straight bouts. Morales once again proved his rising star status last September when he knocked out the tough O’Nell “La Bestia” Negron in the seventh round of their eight-round bout at LA FIGHT CLUB.

Omar Tienda of Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, stayed active in 2015 and fought four times including his U.S. professional debut on Sept. 4 against Brazilian Olympian Everton Lopes, a entertaining bout that went the distance. On February 19, Tienda will return to U.S. soil to avenge his loss to Lopes with a win over Carlos “The Solution” Morales at LA FIGHT CLUB.

Rising prospect Joet Gonzalez of Glendora, Calif. has steadily climbed the professional ranks since his debut in 2012. In 2015, Gonzalez impressed fans with wins defeating Ali Gonzalez in April at LA FIGHT CLUB; Jose Angel “Pepe” Beranza in May; Miguel “Yaqui” Tamayo in August at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino; and Marcos “No Money” Rios in November at LA FIGHT CLUB. Gonzalez will return eager to add to his undefeated record in his third appearance at LA FIGHT CLUB.

Growing his fan base with each successive victory, LA’s Nick Arce has yet to let an opponent hear the final bell. Last year, the 19-year-old Arce stayed active fighting five times, each an impressive victory by knockout. The former amateur standout hopes to keep his winning streak going in 2016 with his first fight of the year on February 19.

22-year-old, Luis “Lichito” Lizarraga Jr. is becoming a regular at LA FIGHT CLUB having fought there twice in 2015. The young professional fighter has gone up against tough, rising prospects including Christian “Chimpa” Gonzalez, Diego De La Hoya, Ivan “Striker” Delgado, Kevin “K-Smoove” Rivers Jr. and Christopher “Pitufo” Diaz. He will make his third appearance at LA FIGHT CLUB on February 19 looking to avenge his recent losses in the ring.

Las Vegas based Francisco Esparza, who trains with former World Champion and future Hall of Famer “El Feroz” Fernando Vargas, will seek his third professional win in a featherweight match scheduled for four rounds. Esparza made his professional debut against Carlos Gonzalez with a win in a four-round lightweight bout at LA FIGHT CLUB on Sept. 18, 2015 and quickly followed that up with another win over Jose Rodriguez on November 20.

Diego De La Hoya vs. Arturo Badillo is a bout presented by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, BORN BOLD and Carmelita Chorizo. WALSH DEFENDS BRITISH TITLE AND PATERSON CLAIMS IBF INTERNATIONAL BELT

The Vacant IBF International Super-Welterweight Championship
Ahmet Patterson WTKO6 (2:52) Ryan Aston

Dulwich hot-shot Ahmet Patterson claimed the Vacant IBF International Super-Welterweight Championship with a brutal performance against Ryan Aston and announced his arrival in the talent packed weight class.

Both fighters looked in impressive condition and an equal match for one another in a cagey opening first round. Patterson landed a heavy right hook on Aston which clearly hurt him, the Dudley man retreated before gaining his composure. Patterson didn’t want to be drawn into a brawl and used his jab well throughout the first.

Aston was looking to make up for a poor first round and looked to land a big shot of his own. Ahmet sensed danger and threw his jabs from a safe distance. The contest began to heat up in the latter stages of the second round with both fighters missing some big shots.

Classy Patterson caught the Aston with another big right-hand at the beginning of the third round which was taken well. Aston replied with his own big right-hand and continued to press forward, neither fighter wanted to take a step back.

“Punch Picker” had his opponent up against the ropes in the fourth after landing a powerful headshot. Aston looked to be in trouble once more but came back into the fight again much to the delight of his travelling support.

Patterson began to take hold of the fight in the fifth round, demonstrating his punching power and he finally got his knock down, dropping Aston with a clinical right hook.

He could sense a win and came out looking for another knock down in the sixth round. The bloodied Aston bravely fought on looking to get back into the fight. Aston was floored for a second time and stayed down before rising to his feet once more. A three punch combination dropped Aston for a final time in the neutral corner and the referee had seen enough.

“I’ll fight anyone, I’ve shown everybody tonight what I’m all about. I know I’ve got what it takes to beat the best and I’m certain that I’ll be claiming my own world title some day.” Said Patterson afterwards.

The British Featherweight Championship
Ryan Walsh WKO5 (2:06) Darren Traynor

Ryan Walsh made a stunning first defence of his British Featherweight title with a brutal fifth round KO against Aberdeen’s Darren Traynor at Bethnal Green’s York Hall.

Roared on by hundreds of his loyal Farmy Army supporters, Walsh put on a stunning performance in the opening defence of the title he won against Samir Mouneimne last September.

Both fighters set a fast pace in the opening first round with no feeling each other out, both went straight into each other with relentless punches being thrown.

Walsh’s legs wobbled in the second from an over-hand right but the Norwich man laughed it off as he quickly regained composure. Both men were at each other’s throats throughout the second round with powerful jabs being landed.

The Cromer man began to take control in the third, inflicting a nasty cut on the right eye of the Scotsman. With blood streaming down his opponents face, Walsh upped the pace towards the end of the round, landing some good combinations.

Walsh looked to take advantage of Traynor’s cut by landing a series of precise jabs on begins to open up again.

The contest was settled in the fifth round with a sharp right hand followed by three left hooks, and then a dynamite right hand to send Traynor through the ropes with the referee waving it off at the count of 8 to send Walsh’s fans into a frenzy.

“It’s amazing to start the year off with a big win and a big performance. Darren was a tough opponent and put up a good fight for the first few rounds until my accuracy and power came through and I found myself landing at will and I knew then it was only a matter of time before I nailed him,” Said Walsh.

“In the fifth round I could see that I was hurting him and then I landed a beautiful combination starting with the right hand and three left hooks and a final right hand to send him crashing through the ropes and I knew he wasn’t going to be getting up, thankfully the ref called it off,”

“I’d like to thank my loyal fans for turning out as they always do to support me and I give them what they want; excitement. My dream is to win this beautiful Lonsdale Belt outright and tonight was the first of three defences, I cant wait for the next one.”

Kovalev vs. Pascal II: Questions & Answers – Jean Pascal

Kovalev & Pascal Weigh-InCasino de Montreal
Q: How is everything going in preparation for your upcoming bout with Sergey Kovalev What’s it like working with Freddie Roach for the first time?

JP: It’s been fantastic. Freddie is somebody that I’ve greatly admired from a distance for a very long time now. I’ve been following his work since the James Toney days, so I’m well aware of the difference he can make for boxers who buy into his way of doing things. Right now I’m all in and ready to once again become the light heavyweight champion of the world on January 30.

Q: What would you say to the critics who feel that you don’t deserve this fight based on your showing against Yunieski Gonzlaez?

JP: I would say that it was a very good fight that was a lot closer than it had to be, but I won the fight.

Q: Why was it a lot closer than it had to be?

JP: I’m don’t make excuses, I make big fights. In boxing things happen during a fight and you just have to bite down and keep going despite the pain. Sometimes things become more difficult than they have to be as a result of this, but when the options are quitting or keep fighting, I only see one option.

Q: Do you feel you’ve gotten the credit you deserved for taking on a hungry undefeated guy like Gonzalez instead of taking an easier preliminary bout?

JP: Not really. And what’s crazy is I didn’t have to fight him. The deal for the Kovalev rematch was done in July, so the only reason I fought him was to prove to myself that even after suffering a TKO loss I can come right back four months later and hand a tough undefeated fighter his first loss. I think that fight took a lot out of Yunieski and that showed in his last fight with Slava Shabransky.

Q: You’ve said on several occassions that you know what has to be corrected in order to defeat Kovalev. Can you elaborate on that at all?

JP: You’ll have to buy your ticket to attend at the Bell Centre or tune in on HBO to find out. I can’t give out my secrets now.

Q: Can you tell us some of the guys you’ve been sparring with?

JP: I can but then I’d have to kill you. (laughs)

Q: You took it upon yourself to voice your opinion of Kovalev. You basically said he’s not a star and that he’s a racist. Do you regret saying any of those things?

JP: Regret? I don’t regret anything I said that day. All I did was tell the truth. There is only one star in this fight and it isn’t Sergey Kovalev. When he and I fought on the same show in Vegas on July 25 it became obvious that Kovalev sells like sand in the desert. He didn’t even sell 1,000 tickets, so we all know the reason he’s coming back to Montreal is because I’m the only way he can make money. He likes to say that he likes to go to other peoples hometown and ruin them in front of their fans, but that’s a lie. He likes to go to other people’s backyard because he has no hometown of his own and couldn’t sell 2,000 tickets to save his life. And when he makes his first million dollar purse because of my great fans in Montreal, how does he thank them? He gives them the finger. Talk about classless.

Q: And as far as the racist remarks?

JP: Like I said, I don’t regret anything. It was the truth. Ismayl Sillakh told me some of the deplorable things Kovalev told him before they fought and the monkey shirt with Adonis spoke for itself. And it’s a fact that he only calls black fighters pieces of shit. The funny thing is when it comes to selling tickets, speaking in complete sentences or generating big ratings, the only piece of shit is him.

Q: Do you have a prediction?

JP: Victory. I will be prepared to go a hard twelve rounds, but if he gives me a chance to end the fight, I will take full advantage of it.
Q: How is everything going in preparation for your upcoming bout with Sergey Kovalev What’s it like working with Freddie Roach for the first time?

New Heavyweight Champ Charles Martin Says: ‘My Time to Shine Will Come!’

Charles Martin (640x480)
Brand new IBF Heavyweight Champion “Prince” Charles Martin (23-0-1, 21 KOs) should be on cloud nine.

In just his seventh year of boxing and slightly over third as a professional, Martin already finds himself the sixth southpaw to have ever won a heavyweight championship after scoring a TKO 3 over Ukrainian top contender Vyacheslav Glazkov last Saturday night, January 16, at the Barclay’s Center in New York.

Winning any world title is an amazing accomplishment that most never reach in decades of boxing. Add in that Martin took out the 2008 Olympic Super Heavyweight bronze medalist to become the second current American heavyweight champion in a suddenly rejuvenated division.

“It feels good,” admits Martin. “I wanted to do it fast. I couldn’t wait,” he explains of his quick ascension. “Some things they say take time but when you’re really determined to do something, you’ll do it as soon as possible.”

With his place already assured in the boxing history books and several lucrative possible showdowns on the near horizon, why isn’t Martin the happiest man on the planet?

It was the way he won.

“I have an empty feeling right now,” said the 29-year-old champion. “I was in front of so many people and it was my time to shine on Showtime and show the world my skills. I felt that he had no power and said to myself that he would be easy work. I knew I was going to have a great night. I was going to KO him and then everyone would love me… but it didn’t happen like that.”

Glazkov stopped fighting in round three due to torn ACL in his knee and Martin was declared the winner of the then-vacant title by way of injury-induced TKO.

“I wanted to win the belt my way,” continued the disappointed Martin. “He would have got knocked out eventually. It was coming to him. I never even got to use my uppercut on him, but it’s all good.”

Humble and extremely likeable, Martin remained polite, post-fight and expressed his condolences to the disappointed Glazkov. However, since that night, Glazkov has gone on to say he had “figured Martin out” and that the championship would have certainly been his had he not been injured.

“Oh my goodness, I’m trying to stay humble about the situation, but that’s so crazy what he said,” said Martin. “If he really thinks that, he’s tripping. Things were about to get a lot worse for him. I promise you, once he started slowing down, my combinations would have started to come out. I was throwing the one/two because he was getting out of the way pretty good in the first few rounds. I was just getting started. I thought I would box him for a while and then start going at him and whip his butt. I promise you I could have. That injury saved him. It broke my heart that I didn’t get to do what I wanted. How does that happen? I was having fun.”

Martin says his team and friends and relatives have been good to remind him the abbreviated ending was out of his control. He also says he’ll take a quick vacation and then get right back to work.

So what comes next for the new American heavyweight champion?

“Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder. I want them both. I want all the best. That’s the next move. My time to shine will come. I’m a world champion now and I can say that the belt is in the right hands. I’m not going to sit around. I want to fight.”

Martin also says that is Britain’s world champ, Tyson Fury, ever points his taunting antics at him, he won’t mind.

“It’s good for boxing for him to do that kind of stuff. I like that. It’s all business. At the end of the day he has no crazy beef with anybody. Nobody choked anybody’s mother. It’s just boxing. You got to get attention somehow. He makes people want to see a fight. We’re in the entertainment and hurt business. It’s definitely a real fight in the ring though. It’s a non-personal thing that very gets personal once they step in the ring with me. That’s two guys’ livelihood in there. That’s our income for our families.”

Headlining ShoBox for the Second Time, Rob Brant Says He’s Still in Shock Over His Own Success

Rob Brant
Minnesota’s Rob “Bravo” Brant (18-0, 11 KOs) won’t lie… He’s still amazed by the level of success he’s already achieved in his young professional boxing career.

“I don’t want to water it down. It’s a huge shocker,” admits Brant. “I was boxing fan before I was even a boxer. So now, to rub shoulders with big guys in the sport like I am, I sometimes have to remind myself not to ask fanboy questions. I worked hard to get here, but I’m still surprised.”

Tonight, 25-year-old Brant will face Atlantic City’s Decarlo Perez (15-3-1, 5 KOs) in a 10-round battle for the NABA Middleweight Championship to headline a ShoBox: The New Generation tripleheader of fights, live from the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona.

Tickets for “Boxing at Casino Del Sol”, which is promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions and Roy Jones Jr. Boxing Promotions, are priced at $25, $40, $75 and $100, and are available through the Casino Del Sol Resort web site (www.casinodelsol.com). Please click on “Featured Promotions” and then “SHOBOX Fight” to buy tickets.

In the co-featured televised bouts, undefeated heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (15-0-1, 13 KOs) will take on Cleveland’s Donovan Dennis (14-3, 11 KOs) in a 10-rounder for the NABA Heavyweight Championship and undefeated Kazakhstani power puncher Bakhtiyar Eyubov (9-0, 9 KOs) will look to keep his perfect record intact against Jared Robinson (16-2-1, 7 KOs), of Sumter, South Carolina in an eight-round welterweight battle.

“I feel really good. I’m confident. I had a great camp with phenomenal sparring partners,” continued Brant. “I got a chance to work a lot of rounds with Errol Spence Jr., just in case Perez decides to fight southpaw. Maybe it was just smoke and mirrors when he said he would, but we had to be prepared for anything. I also sparred with Jermell Charlo, who is also coached by my trainer, Derrick James, so it was a great camp.”

Brant says he will be looking to improve from his last fight, a ShoBox-televised majority decision over Louis Rose last October.

“For this camp, I built off what worked last time and looked at the flaws and mistakes I made last time on ShoBox against Louis Rose. I made sure I had that mental aspect down of knowing I’m able to do 10 hard rounds and still be offensive. In my last fight, I took my foot off the gas a bit and was just content to win, as opposed to giving more to the ShoBox crowd and looking impressive. My punch output will be higher and things like when I cut angles it won’t be just to escape and evade. Now it will be to create opportunities for punching. Obviously it takes two guys out there, so I’ll wait and see how he reacts and what he decides to do. I’ll see if he starts punching and lets his hands go.”

Brant says he knows what to expect from the formidable Perez and doesn’t suspect it’s going to be easy.

“He (Perez) comes straight forward and will double triple and quadruple his jab, which will create a lot of opportunities for me to counter and hit him with good solid shots. He’s a guy you can rattle his cage pretty often but he doesn’t go down or out. Watching his last fight, he’s going to throw a lot of punches. That’s why my output will have to be higher. I have to shut down everything he tries to do. He’s not overly strong in any ears but not weak in any area either.”

Brant says despite all his hard work and the god-given talent he has practiced for years to hone and cultivate, the reality of being a ShoBox headliner is still amazing for him to ponder.

“In the last year things have exploded. I used to watch Steve Farhood all the time and now I sit in fighter interviews with him. I always wanted to be here, but I didn’t expect to be here this quickly. It’s a huge shocker. A lot of this is new for me. The cameras and the hot lights and the interviews and people wanting to know what I think about things. It’s a good feeling and I love it, but I’m still in shock a bit by it all.”

KHAN RESPONDS TO PACQUIAO COMMENTS

Amir Khan

BOLTON (22 January) – Amir Khan would like to address the recent comments given by Manny Pacquiao as to why a fight between them never transpired.

Importantly, Amir would like to make clear that he holds Manny as a fighter in the highest regard but his comments about “middle men” preventing the fight from happening are wholly inaccurate and false.

Amir Khan said: “I have read recent comments by Manny Pacquiao stating that the reason a fight between us never happened was because of ‘middle men’ in my team – this is totally inaccurate and false.

“The only people negotiating on my behalf, as with all my fights, were my father Shah, uncle Taz and lawyer Robert Davis. They dealt directly with Manny Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum and adviser Michael Koncz.

“An initial meeting took place last September between Bob Arum and my uncle and lawyer in London. This was at the direct request of Bob Arum. The negotiations went well to the extent that a ‘Heads of Terms’ was signed and sent from my lawyer to Bob Arum.

“My team was told by Bob Arum that it was a choice between either Terence Crawford or myself and dates in April were being explored with the fight to take place in Las Vegas or Qatar.

“Since September of last year my team had been in direct contact with Pacquiao’s team, spoke with them and met them face-to-face, so to state that middle men prevented the fight from happening is not true at all.

“Rather, having seen comments from Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach saying that HBO were not interested in the fight – yet are seemingly happy to broadcast a third fight between Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley – makes clear the contradictions and the fact his team knew a fight between us would be a very dangerous one for him and best avoided.

“Freddie, who has trained us both, knows how our sparring sessions used to go and with me having filled out more now as a welterweight, getting bigger and stronger, makes a fight with Bradley – who Pacquiao in most opinions has beaten twice – a much easier option.

“I want to make the best fights for the fans and it was neither my team nor a lack of desire from my end which prevented a fight with Pacquiao from happening – that rests squarely on Team Pacquiao.”

Melson to speak to Veterans Leadership Council in February at Johnson & Johnson Town Hall Meeting

Boyd_Melson_army_photo_2
New York, NY (January 22, 2016) – WBC USNBC 154 pound champion Boyd “Rainmaker” Melson will serve as a special guest speaker for Johnson & Johnson during their Veterans Leadership Council Town Hall Meeting Thursday, February 18th in Raritan, New Jersey.

A 2003 West Point graduate, Melson was personally invited to speak by retired Army Colonel and current J&J employee Irving Smith, who was Melson’s Minority Admissions Representative and mentor when he applied to West Point as a teenager. On the 18th, Melson will present to J&J employees who are part of J&J’s Veterans Leadership Council with respect to the topics of Traumatic Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury. A former standout salesman for J&J’s Ethicon Division, Melson’s success in and out of the ring is still closely monitored by J&J’s CEO and fellow West Point graduate Alex Gorsky.

“Johnson and Johnson will always exist within an independent aspect of my heart. I am overwhelmed with pride that the honor of speaking to J&J’s Veterans Leadership Council is now extended to me as I was once myself a Veteran working for J&J” said Melson.

Last week, Melson was honored at Johns Hopkins University as a military superstar. He was their guest of honor for their Men’s and Women’s basketball game, and upon personal request from the women’s basketball team’s coach, he delivered a pre-game inspirational talk to the ladies on that team.

In regard to J&J, Melson said it “it was a great place to work. They were extremely supportive of my boxing career and the mission of Team Fight to Walk. Many of J&J employees are loyal supporters that purchased tickets to see me fight. I am personally asking J&J CEO Alex Gorsky to attend this lecture on the 18th. It is very important to me that he learns how close we are towards receiving FDA Approval to conduct the clinical trial in the United States that Team Fight To Walk has worked the past 5.5 years to raise money for.”

KO Specialist Eyubov: My Goal is to Break My Opponents Down, Round-By-Round, Minute-By-Minute

Ask a fighter if they’re going to try for a knockout in their next fight and the standard answer is they will “see what happens, but if the opportunity presents itself…”

But if you’ve ever seen undefeated Kazakhstani welterweight Bakhtiyar Eyubov (9-0, 9 KOs) in action, you know the hard-punching marauder is doing more than seeing what happens.

Eyubov is trying to hurt you with every punch he throws.

The 29-year-old from Aktjubinsk will face Jared Robinson (16-2-1, 7 KOs), of Sumter, South Carolina, tonight, in the televised opener of a ShoBox: The New Generation tripleheader emanating from the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona.

The broadcast begins at 10:35 ET/PT and is headlined by Minnesota’s Rob “Bravo” Brant (18-0, 11 KOs) taking on Atlantic City’s Decarlo Perez (15-3-1, 5 KOs) in a 10-round battle for the NABA Middleweight Championship. In the co-featured bout, undefeated heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (15-0-1, 13 KOs) will take on Cleveland’s Donovan Dennis (14-3, 11 KOs) in a 10-rounder for the NABA Heavyweight Championship.

Rather than asking Eyubov if he’ll go for a knockout, the more apt question is “what would happen if you ever did have to go to a decision… would you be upset?”

“Of course I wouldn’t be upset,” he laughs unconvincingly, “but my style is to break my opponent down, round-by-round, minute-by-minute, so it’ very unlikely I will have to go to very many decisions in my career. But whatever is the will of god is what will happen.”

But just because Eyubov says he expects another knockout for his collection against Robinson, doesn’t mean he thinks it will be easy. “Robinson is a very good boxer,” admitted Eyubov. and I’m familiar with his style. He moves well and has a good jab. I have a lot of respect for him. I took this fight very seriously and trained for a long time. This guy has twice as many fights as I do. But I trained well and I’ve got every confidence in my preparations.”

Eyubov shares a country of origin with another fearsome puncher who seemingly hates decisions: middleweight champion and budding superstar Gennady Golovkin.

Is that just how they teach you to box in Kazkhstan?

“I came from nothing. I had no support. No famous trainer. It was me against the world. Golovkin and I both had rough upbringings in rough neighborhoods, so I imagine that’s why we both have a lot of aggression in our hearts. Nobody told me to box the way I do. That’s just who I am and that’s just what I do. I try to hurt you every second.”

BILLY LONG: “FIGHT NIGHT IS WHAT I LIVE FOR!”

Rising Chelmsford super-middle Billy ‘The Bomb’ Long’s pro CV might list just three fights but already the popular 27 year old Essex boy is proving a champion when it comes to flogging tickets.

Thus far, he all action crowd pleaser has shifted close to 300 briefs for each public airing.

Tonight, expect Long’s Essex platoon to ram into the York Hall, Bethnal Green for his fourth fight, a lively looking dust-up with teak tough Telford warlord Kieron ‘Slammer’ Gray.

Headlining the show is Ryan Walsh’s British Featherweight title defence against Darren Traynor, with live coverage starting on BoxNation from 7pm.

‘My fans are blinding. Fight nights are what I live for,’ disclosed the chirpy personal trainer who claims he is the ‘daddy’ regarding both looks and banter at the Legends gym in Dagenham.

‘My parents have been publicans for many years and also run a wine bar in Chelmsford town centre. Mum’s one of nine, Dad’s one of three, I’m one of five. We know a lot of people.’

Dubbed ‘The Bomb’, crowd pleasing Billy detonated onto the pro circuit with three standout wins before fanatical support in 2015.

‘There used to be an old East End gangster called Billy ‘The Bomb’. My gym mate Scott Douglas insisted I use it for my pro career. I used to be Billy ‘The Kid’, just like every other boxer called Billy!’ he explains.

Chelmsford born and bred, Spurs fan Billy concedes he didn’t lace a boxing glove until after his 19th birthday had passed.

He recalls: ‘When I first went into a boxing gym it was because I wanted to become the local hard man, not a boxer.

‘Growing up I had a hell of a lot of (street) fights. I used to drink heavily and wanted to be the big person in the bar. I also had loads of scraps on the football field. But boxing really humbled me. Early doors, I took loads of hidings in sparring from kids I’d have fancied my chances against on the street.

‘I actually started out with five unlicensed fights – all wins – then had 11 amateur bouts at the Hoddesden club in which I lost just two. I also had a cage fight which I won.

‘I reached the senior ABA quarter finals in 2014 but had to withdraw after James DeGale broke my nose in a spar over at Jimmy Mac’s gym. My amateur highlight was winning the King of the Ring tournament in Sweden. I had an England trial up in Leeds but the amateur coaches weren’t fussed on the way I boxed, steaming forward, chucking big shots.’

However, since vaulting to the pros last March, Long has profited from a style makeover courtesy of rising trainer Jamie Williams.

‘Jamie is very underrated. He went out with Kevin Mitchell’s sister for nine years and started ‘Kev’ out as a young amateur,’ says ‘The Bomb’.

‘Today, I’m basically a defensive fighter though if I feel I’m losing, I can have a war to get myself out of jail.

‘Against the negative journeymen, you’re forced to chase but you’ll see more of my class as a step up the quality of my opposition. In addition to ‘Chunky’ (Degale), I’ve also sparred the likes of George Groves and John Ryder recently. I perform better against quality guys like them.’

The father of three sons opted to punch for pounds full-time after struggling to hold down a regular job. Thus far, he has dominated all placed before him.

He says: ‘First up I fought (Brighton’s) Iain Jackson a tough, tough dangerous guy. But I managed to push him back and win on points. Second time, I shut out a Spaniard (Christian Hoskin Gomez) who went unbeaten in his next three after me, so was decent. Last fight, I finally got a stoppage against a Croatian (Gordan Glisic) who usually lasts to points.’

‘Kieron’s a tough, game journeyman so it certainly won’t be easy. Hopefully I can send all my fans home happy,’ says bustling Billy.

‘Now I’m managed by Andy Ayling who has unbelievable knowledge and contacts. I know he can take me to places far beyond my talent.

‘I’ve only been at the boxing properly for four years so you need to start off realistic. I’ve always wanted a Southern Area title. That’s my goal right now. Every boxer needs a photo with a belt around their belly! ’

The Channel Of Champions, BoxNation, will televise live and exclusive on Sky 437/HD 490, Virgin 546, TalkTalk 415 and Freeview 255. Subscribe at www.boxnation.com or watch online at watch.boxnation.com and via iPhone, iPad or Android and Amazon devices.

Heavyweight Miller Feeling Confident Heading into Nationally Televised Showdown Against Donovan Dennis

Jarrell Miller
Undefeated heavyweight slugger Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (15-0-1, 13 KOs) is beaming with confidence heading into tonight’s nationally televised showdown against Donovan Dennis (14-3, 11 KOs).

Miller and Dennis will meet in a televised 10-round co-featured bout for the NABA Heavyweight Championship at Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona, and live on ShoBox: The New Generation on SHOWTIME (10:35 p.m. ET/PT).

The tripleheader of televised action features undefeated middleweight Rob “Bravo” Brant (18-0, 11 KOs) of St. Paul, Minnesota, taking on Atlantic City’s Decarlo Perez (15-3-1, 5 KOs) in a 10-round battle for the NABA Middleweight Championship and undefeated Kazakhstani power puncher Bakhtiyar Eyubov (9-0, 9 KOs) facing Jared Robinson (16-2-1, 7 KOs), of Sumter, South Carolina in an eight-round welterweight bout to open the telecast.

Miller, who is co-promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions and Salita Promotions, says he’s on the right track with his boxing career.

“I got some buzz off the last fight (a KO 3 over Uzbekistan’s Akhror Muralimov
Last October), but the big time is just a matter of time for me,” said Miller. “After every fight, things pick up. Showtime has taken notice of me, so I’m definitely taking steps in the right direction. I’ll just keep racking these wins up and winning spectacularly.”

Miller admits training didn’t go as well as hoped, but isn’t overly concerned about it.

“It definitely wasn’t the easiest camp. Injuries are part of the game and so are ups and downs. Camp wasn’t perfect, that’s for sure, but that’s how it is. Real warriors keep it moving. I’ll go in there and do my job and move onto the next. My real goal is to be the headliner in my next fight. Every fight is motivation to move onto the next level for me.”

According to 27-year-old Miller, the recent resurgence of American heavyweights has been something of a mirage… at least until he ascends to the throne.

“I think it’s a great time for American heavyweights, but to be honest a lot of them are full of it. Some of them have heart, but a lot of them don’t have much skill. My day is coming and a lot of these top contenders and champions are going to get washed off the list. I’m taking everybody out.”

And as for tonight’s opponent, Miller has a bold prediction: “I’ve watched Donovan Dennis on tape a bit and… I’m going to hurt him bad.”

Farewell or Fight On? Pacquiao discovers that it’s hard to say goodbye

By Norm Frauenheim-
May Pac PC 3
There is no good way to say goodbye to boxing. Manny Pacquiao is trying to. At campaign stops in New York and Los Angeles this week, he said repeatedly that his fight with Timothy Bradley on April 9 would be his last.

In a political season full of Trump, Palin, Cruz and Hillary, however, few believe the soft-spoken Filipino Congressman, who also happens to be running for one of 24 seats in his country’s Senate. His promoter, Bob Arum, doesn’t. His trainer, Freddie Roach, doesn’t. His Filipino constituency doesn’t want

The prevailing skepticism is rooted in precedent. Boxers come back as often as politicians break promises. In Bill Dwyre’s ongoing series for Top Rank on the second Pacquiao-Bradley rematch, the retired Los Angeles Times sport editor quotes Arum on just the latest example.

Brandon Rios retired at a news conference in the immediate aftermath of his one-sided loss to Bradley last November. Arum immediately applauded his announcement.

“Half-an-hour later,’’ Arum said, Rios “unretired.’’

The entertaining anecdote is as true a guide as any on what to expect — or not expect — from Pacquiao or anybody else in a business where scar tissue is the only sure thing.

But it’s an awkward way to sell a fight.

The guess here is that Pacquiao believes what he is saying, just as surely as Rios did with a decision that sounded heartfelt at the time. But there are all kinds of reasons and scenarios that could change Pacquiao’s mind.

To wit:

§ If he wins, he has a title to defend and chance at more money to finance further campaigns.

§ If he loses, his reputation is at stake. Careers end in defeat all the time. But a loss might be tougher for a politician whose clout with the voters is built on how he won them over. His political career was launched by what he did within the ropes. A pound-for-pound ranking was the only poll he ever needed. The ring was his bully pulpit.

Either scenario comes with reasons to think his career continues beyond his third fight with Bradley at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand.

Meanwhile, Arum is confronted with the tough task of selling a bout that Pacquiao calls his farewell-fight, which is an oxymoron, if there ever was one. You fight to stick around. Throwing in the towel is one way of saying farewell.

A lot of fans feel as if they said farewell to Pacquiao, the fighter, on that December night in 2012 when he landed on the canvas, face-first, from a right hand delivered by Juan Manuel Marquez.

That might have been as good a time as any to say goodbye, except for that opportunity at a huge payday against Floyd Mayweather Jr. Good business sense dictated he continue, despite pressure to quit from family and friends.

Pacquiao stuck around, collecting what was reported to be between $160 and $180 million. It was worth it. It made him a very rich man. But it looks as if the May loss to Mayweather was just one more bout in the inevitable decline of a fighter in his mid-to-late 30s. He’s back now. He says he has recovered from surgery to the right-shoulder, which he said was injured in training, yet wasn’t disclosed until after the dull, controversial loss to Mayweather.

Then, there’s Mayweather, of course. He says he’s retired. But nobody believes him, either. The prevailing speculation since Mayweather’s promised career-ender –a September victory over Andre Berto — is that he’ll be back.

As different as they are, it turns out that Pacquiao and Mayweather have one thing in common. In a business with no term limits, it’s hard to say so long.

Miller says he’s the Big future in the heavyweight division

By Norm Frauenheim
Jarrell Miller
He calls himself Big Baby. But don’t let the nickname fool you. This baby doesn’t cry. Jerrell Miller only boasts.

Miller (15-0-1, 13 KOs) hopes to back up those noisy boasts Friday on ShoBox (Showtime 10:35 p.m. ET/PT) at Casino del Sol in Tucson against Donovan Dennis (12-2, 10 KOs) on a card that feature middleweight prospect Rob Brant (18-0, 11 KOs) against DeCarlo Perez (15-3-1, 5 KOs).

Miller, of Brooklyn, is fighting to get noticed in the scrum of heavyweights that has gathered in the wake Tyson Fury’s stunning upset of longtime king Wldimir Klitschko last month.

The first to score a winning ticket was Charles Martin, who won a vacant IBF title last Saturday when his opponent, Vyacheslav Glazkov, went down with a knee injury in the third round of a bout on a Brooklyn card that included WBC champion Deontay Wilder’s stoppage of Artur Spizlka.

Now, it’s Miller turn to make a statement that Martin didn’t.

In Friday night’s main event, Brant, of Minnesota, makes his second straight ShoBox appearance after a tough, majority decision over Louis Rose up the road in Phoenix.

“It’s a New Year, but I don’t go into it with any kind of timetable,’’ said Brant, a former national Golden Gloves champion. “I just need to win and let the wins take care of everything else.”

Undefeated Super Lightweight Bakhtiyar “Bakha Bullett” Eyubov looks to steal the show this Friday night on ShoBox: The New Generation

Tucson, Arizona (January 21, 2015) – TOMORROW NIGHT at the Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Ariz. the prospect-oriented SHOWTIME series ShoBox: The New Generation will present another fantastic night of boxing with a tripleheader featuring boxing’s up and coming stars.

The telecast begins at 10:35 PM ET / PT on SHOWTIME.

In the opening contest, undefeated Bakhtiyar Eyubov will take on Jared Robinson in an eight-round Super Lightweight battle.

This fight figures to be the sternest test for the 29 year-old knockout machine from Aktjubinsk, Kazakhstan.

Eyubov, who brings in a perfect mark of 9-0 with 9 knockouts, is looking to make a statement and indoctrinate himself to the American audience with an impressive performance.

Eyubov, who has been considered a massive puncher dating back to his 150-fight amateur career and has already made waves in the media capital of New York as he disposed his three opponents who he has fought in the Big Apple.

Robinson, who is coming off a win over Christian Dominguez (7-1) and a draw with undefeated Lydell Rhodes (23-0), will look to try to take Eyubov past the third round for the first time.

“I had a great training camp at The Fight Factory Gym in Brooklyn. I focused a lot on refining my skills and increasing my stamina to put on a great show for the boxing fans. I have lots of respect for Jared Rabinson. Fighting on TV in the US especially on ShoBox is a dream come true! I am grateful for this opportunity to my promoter Salita Promotions who kept me busy and focused. I am very eager to show my skills and unique style to the boxing fans on SHOWTIME onFriday night,” said the hard punching Eyubov.

“Bakha is a very special talent! I am excited and grateful for this opportunity to showcase his skills to a national audience on ShoBox,”said Eyubov’s promoter Dmitry Salita.

Quotes from Sergey Kovalev Media Day

Kovalev & Pascal Weigh-InCasino de Montreal
What changed in your training coming to this fight?

Sergey Kovalev: “I did a lot of mistakes in our last fight and right now I try to fix it. I try to be better. It’s a secret about my mistakes and just me and my trainer know about my mistakes. I learned from my first fight. Right now I fix it and try to be creative, do everything exactly correct and try to fight more harder and try to stop Pascal early this time.

“Because I was disappointed in my performance in our last fight against Pascal I want to do this much better, much more clear.
“I felt very comfortable (in last fight). Judge gave to him two rounds, but I didn’t feel I lost these rounds. I just take time, used a lot of jabs and get lot of points with the jab.

“I don’t feel comfortable to make any prediction because it is boxing, anything can happen. It’s not my habit to say, I will, will, will. Because sometimes you say will and something else happens and then you look like a trash talker. You know?
“Pascal is a trash talker. I don’t care what he say because it’s just trash from his mouth. He start speaking trash to (make me) lose my mind and make me nervous; he will pay for this in the ring. Believe me. I am going to make him pay for this.

“It is a more personal fight (because of trash talk).”

Do you want to make him retire?

SK: “I want this, we’ll see. But usually all my opponents stop their career or move their division, but last fight I didn’t finish my job.”

Why fight Pascal again when the first fight seemed so easy?

SK: “First of all, Pascal has said bad things to my side. I have a reason for fighting him. I think Pascal has reason to say thank you to Luis Pabon, the referee for the fight. He forgot to say thank you very much that he saved his health and life maybe. Because he was already “drunk”, you know like spaghetti legs.”

Why fight in Canada?

SK: “I love Canada and Canadian fans. Canada reminds me so much of my home town in Russia. Same atmosphere. Lot of details remember me of my home town and I feel very comfortable in Canada. Big support from Canadian fans. And second thing why I fight in Canada, because Pascal doesn’t want to go to America to fight me or in Russia either. He’s fighting only in his hometown. Ok, I’m ready to kick his ass in his hometown.”

Kovalev Answers Media Questions

Do you expect to see something different now that Pascal is training with Freddie Roach?

SK: Yes, it gave me new motivation. Because he could bring something new from Freddie Roach. Should be, but we’ll see. It helped me work more, more, more and be ready for what he will bring.

“I want to say thanks to boxing because boxing helped with a lot of terrible things in my life. Boxing saved my life, saved my health. I have a family, I have a son, beautiful wife. Right now I am happy. I have motivation to get more goals.”

Television Interview with Kovalev

John David Jackson: “He has a great work ethic. He kind of choreographs his fights. It’s funny how he does it. It works for him. I let him do what he wants to do. It makes him feel comfortable. He has a routine where he tries to mimic the fight how [he thinks] it’s gonna go about [sic].”

JDJ: “Time will tell [if he will be an icon.] He needs a couple more fights with top quality opponents. You’ve got Ward and Stevenson, and now this Russian kid Beterbiev, who beat Sergey in the amateurs. These are the types of fight that will take him to the next level and make him the superstar that he truly is.”

JDJ: “We put a game-plan together, but he swears up and down there’s no game-plan. We devise a strategy that works for him.”

JDJ: “His physical training and conditioning prior to coming to the gym enables him to go the rounds that he goes and the pace that he sets.”

JDJ: “Right now, he’s still working, but next week we’ll shut the sparring down and we will be at an even pace, but at a level where he’s still aggressive and heavy come fight night.”

SHOBOX: THE NEW GENERATION WEIGHTS & FINAL THOUGHT TRIPLEHEADER TOMORROW, FRIDAY, JAN. 22, LIVE ON SHOWTIME® (10:35 p.m. ET/PT)

Rob Brant
TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 21, 2016) – The six fighters who’ll be fighting on ShoBox: The New Generation tomorrow/Friday, Jan. 22, live on SHOWTIME® (10:35 p.m. ET/PT) at Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Ariz., made weight Thursday.

Undefeated middleweight Rob “Bravo” Brant (18-0, 11 KOs, 0-3 in World Series of Boxing) of St. Paul, Minn., faces Atlantic City’s Decarlo Perez (15-3-1, 5 KOs) in the 10-round main event.

In co-featured bouts, unbeaten heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (15-0-1, 13 KOs) of Brooklyn, N.Y., meets southpaw Donovan Dennis (14-3, 11 KOs, 2-1 in WSB) of Cleveland, Ohio, in a 10-round scrap and undefeated Bakhtiyar Eyubov (9-0, 9 KOs), of Brooklyn, N.Y. by way of Kazakhstan, meets Jared Robinson (16-2-1, 7 KOs), of Sumter, S.C. in an eight-round welterweight bout.

The Weights: Brant weighed 159 pounds, Perez 159; Miller tipped scale at 274 ¼, Dennis 218 ¼; and Eyubov weighed 143 ½ pounds, Robinson 143 ½. The event is promoted by Greg Cohen Promotions.

NOTE: A scheduled fight between super featherweights Harmonito Dela Torre and Rafael Guzman was cancelled earlier this week.

Here’s what the fighters had to say prior to the weigh-in:

ROB BRANT

“This is a good test for me against a guy that likes to bring pressure. It’s my time to show what I’ve learned and how I’ve grown. I’m here to show I’m ready to take that next step.

“Perez is good at everything, so I need to be ready to beat him on the inside and outside.

“I’m looking to show that I’ve grown as a fighter since my last fight. I need to show that I’m getting better as a prospect and growing into a contender. I’m getting closer, but you’re only as good as your last fight. I need to put on a great performance against a prospect on my level.

“I know he likes to jab, likes to have his opponent in front of him. I know what I need to do to beat this guy.

“It’s a great matchup style wise. It should be a great fight.”

DECARLO PEREZ

“I feel that I’m a better fighter than his last opponent (Louis Rose). I’ll be in his face the whole time. I won’t let him breathe, come at him with pressure and take the fight deep.

“I’ve been working my butt off for a moment like this for a very long time. I’m ready. I know my conditioning. Superman couldn’t catch me right now if he tried. We’re ready to be the more active fighter in there. We’re ready to push the action.

“For Brant to beat me, he’ll have to lay me out on my shield. I’m going to be on top of him.

“I’ve finally had a full camp. You’ll see the difference that a full camp can make. I put in the work. I’ve come up the hard way. I’ve faced the tougher opponents. He’s had an easy route to his undefeated record.

“My job is to pressure him. We’re ready for the long haul, but we’ll look to make it a short night.”

JARRELL MILLER

“Once I hit him and he hits me, that’s when we’ll see who the real warrior is. My face lights up when I get hit. Every lefty I’ve faced, I’ve knocked out, so I’m not worried about fighting a lefty.

“My punch output for my size is unheard of. I throw 80-90 punches a round. No one else is doing that. I’m all about pressure.

“People say if the knockout comes, it comes. That’s bull. I’m looking for the knockout. Every single round, I’m looking for the knockout.

“I’d spank (IBF champion) Charles Martin, I know I would. Any place, any time. If Charles Martin and (WBC champion) Deontay Wilder still have a belt when I get there, then I’ll knock their heads off. I’m looking to get a title shot by the end of the year.

“I want to face all of them; I want to face the best. It doesn’t matter to me. We train for 10 rounds, but that doesn’t mean we want to go that long. The shorter the better. I’m predicting a second-round knockout.”

DONOVAN DENNIS

“Anything can happen with one punch. That’s what you get with heavyweights. I think I can outbox him, outwork him. Make him fight my fight and outwork him.

“We sparred with Dominic Breazeale and it was good work while I was there. It was solid training

“Miller is a big guy, but his power isn’t anything I haven’t seen before. You can’t listen to what other people say or get intimidated by records. Later rounds, early rounds, we’re ready for a 10-round fight. I’ve faced the tougher opponents, I’ve had the harder route.

“You’re going to see a different Donovan. I feel like I’ve matured from my last fights. The Boxcino Tournament matured me mentally as a fighter.

“I’m the better boxer, the more experience fighter. I’m going to take over the fight.”

BAKHTIYAR EYUBOV

“Jared is a tough guy and an experienced fighter. We know he is going to be a tough test for us.

“We’re ready if he doesn’t go down like all the others. We won’t be surprised. I’ll react and look for different ways to get him out. If the head doesn’t fall, I’ll go for the body. My goal is to break him down.

“I’ll come forward and I’ll break you.”

JARED ROBINSON

“I’ve improved a lot over the past few years. My defense is much better, my awareness of where I am in the ring. I’m better suited for a fight like this than I was a few years ago. I feel like I’m in my prime now.

“He may have a lot of knockouts on his record, but he’s never faced a guy like me, a guy with experience like me.

“We know he’s going to come full blast, but we’ve prepared for that type of fighter. He’s going to try to throw bombs and hope for the best. I’m going to teach him control and use his aggression against him. It will open up shots for me.

“It can’t be a close decision. I can’t lose. This is going to put me and my family on the next level. It’s just two guys getting in the ring. I hope he’s ready.”
Barry Tompkins will call the ShoBox action from ringside with Steve Farhood and former world champion Raul Marquez serving as expert analysts. The executive producer is Gordon Hall with Richard Gaughan producing and Rick Phillips directing.

CHUDINOV V STURM AND CHAGAEV V BROWNE WORLD TITLE FIGHTS EXCLUSIVELY LIVE ON BOXNATION

ruslan_chagaev
BoxNation continually televises the best live International action from around the world and two big world title fights have just been added to the packed schedule with Fedor Chudinov’s rematch against Felix Sturm and Ruslan Chagaev’s title defence against Lucas Browne.

Russian ace Chudinov, the WBA Super World Super-Middleweight Champion, will go back to Germany to face Felix Sturm at the Koenig Pilsener Arena, Oberhausen, on Saturday 20th February.

The unbeaten 28-year-old shocked the German hero in his backyard last May when he outpointed him over twelve rounds to win the vacant world title. He then came to London and defeated Frank Buglioni in the first defence of his title.

Silent and deadly, Chudinov said: ”The title stays with me.”

Sturm, a four-time World Champion, goes straight back into his rematch against Chudinov and the 36-year-old says he’ll be back to his best.

“I made a lot of mistakes in the first fight, I could only show 20% of myself, but this time I’m ready, all or nothing, I’ll prove I’m still one of the best in the World,” Sturm said.

Then on Saturday 5th March it’s the big men of boxing in action with WBA World Champion Ruslan Chagaev taking on unbeaten challenger Lucas Browne on Saturday 5th March at the Colosseum Sports Hall, Grozny, Chechnya,

With Chagaev v Browne, BoxNation viewers’ will see one of the first elimination fights in the WBA heavyweight tournament that aims to determine one true world champion in the organisation.

Southpaw Chagaev from Uzbekistan is a two-time WBA World Champion and is well know to British fight fans’ after beating Michael Sprott and then Matt Skelton in a world title defence.

The 37-year-old has only lost twice – to Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin – in 37 fights with 21 knockouts and says he’ll do a number on his Australian rival. He said, “I will defeat Browne and ultimately go on to show that I’m the best in the division.”

Dynamite-punching Browne, from Sydney, Australia, who is promoted by British great Ricky Hatton has won all 23 fights and has knocked out 20. The brash and exciting 36-year-old is a hit with

BoxNation viewers with two of his previous UK appearances televised on the The Channel of Champions.

Browne said, “Make no mistake, I’m going over to Grozny to knock Ruslan Chagaev out. I’m not interested in leaving the fight in the hands of the judges so I’m going to bring my two judges with me, my left hand and my right hand.

“I’ve already started the process of turning my body into a machine and I’m going to destroy whatever is in front of me. Travelling overseas to fight doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I’ve done it many times in my career and at the end of the day it’ll be just me and Chagaev in the ring.

PAULY UPTON ADDED TO UNBEATEN CARD IN WALSALL

UNBEATEN Pauly Upton will return to action in Walsall on February 19 and he’s keen to push towards title class.

The Ricky Hatton-trained super-welterweight will face Brighton’s experienced Kevin McCauley as part of his preparations for a potential Irish title tilt in the spring.

Pauly took his professional ledger to 11-0 by comprehensively outboxing tough Hungarian Zoltan Turai in November and is looking to start 2016 with a bang.

“It’s time for me to push on and start getting some belts around my waist,” Pauly, 27, said.

“Obviously, this fight is a warm up and I’m going to use it to sharpen up my skills before going after the Irish title.

“McCauley is as tough as old boots so he’s ideal really. Afterwards I think I’ll be ready to move up to ten-rounders and show people what I can really do.

“My brothers [Sonny and Anthony] have already moved up a level and have either boxed for titles and been in eliminators and it’s my turn now.”

Although he was born in London, Pauly comes from proud Irish stock and spent much of his childhood in Dublin and Belfast. He also followed in his grandfather’s footsteps by boxing for the Emerald Isle as an amateur.

“My whole family is Irish so it’s always been my goal to win the Irish title,” he said. “I won All-Ireland titles in the amateurs and it would be a dream come true to be the country’s champion as a pro.

Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Steven Stoller Provides Analysis of Glazkov’s Knee Injury

Vyacheslav Glazkov
Totowa, NJ: The radiology report is in and it appears that heavyweight contender Vyacheslav “Czar” Glazkov suffered a more severe knee injury than originally believed in his bout with Charles Martin on Saturday night.

Dr. Steven Stoller, a, New Jersey Orthopedic Surgeon and who specializes in sports medicine, watched the Glazkov fight live last Saturday night. The doctor said that in the third round, while avoiding a punch, Glazkov’s right knee “pivot shifted,” which in layman’s terms is a partial dislocation of the knee (and is indicative of an ACL injury), when he went down the first time, which the referee ruled a slip. Glazkov continued fighting until presumably injuring his knee further when the bout was called off with 30 seconds remaining in the third round.

Dr. Stoller, with extensive experience treating professional and amateur boxers but who has not treated Glazkov, said, “Upon reviewing Glazkov’s MRI report, the injury was much more complex and serious than a straight forward ACL tear. Additional injuries consisted of a vertical tear of the medial meniscus, a grade II sprain of the medial collateral ligament as well as the lateral collateral ligament, with extensive injury to the posterior lateral complex of his knee, a large knee hemarthrosis, and he sustained bone contusions of the lateral tibial plateau and medial femoral condyle. I can’t imagine how Glazkov was able to walk out of the ring, let alone continue fighting.”

Glazkov met with Dr. Benjamin Yukhanan in Florida yesterday. Glazkov said, “The doctor says my knee is much worse than we thought. It’s not just the ACL, it’s also the meniscus and my whole knee was dislocated. They can’t do surgery right away. I’m in a cast from the bottom to the top of my leg and I’ll be in the cast for a month. After they remove the cast, I will do physical therapy for around another month. After that, they can do the surgery. Basically, we are talking 10 months in a best case scenario, but could be a year to recover.”

Glazkov continued, “This injury was very unfortunate. I will take time to heal, but then I will be back better than ever!”

According to Glazkov’s manager, Egis Klimas, “Slava lost a fight without being hit. I do not think we will ask for rematch; when the time comes for Slava to step back into ring I do not believe Martin will still be a champion.”

“We will never know what would have happened had Czar not suffered this unfortunate accident during the fight,” said promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events. “The score was even on the judges’ cards when the fight was stopped due to Czar’s injury. The fact that he got up and continued fighting in such a debilitated state is a testament to his courage and his desire. His knee will be repaired by one of the very best surgeons in the country and we expect that, God willing, Glazkov will return to the ring even stronger than before when he is ready.”
